Pettigrew Tea Rooms, located in the castle-like gatehouse of Bute Park, offers classic afternoon teas and a selection of sandwiches featuring Welsh mature cheddar or Perl Wen organic brie. The tea room is known for its homemade bakes and warm scones. It's a cozy spot to enjoy local and homemade produce while taking in the tranquil woodland surroundings of Bute Park.
What a fantastic place. We had an afternoon tea for five there. We've had quite a few at different venues, but this is right at the top. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The sandwiches are made with a variety of fresh breads, and the fillings are very generous. We had a very enjoyable time and would recommend you try it out.

My daughter and I received a voucher for Pettigrew Tea rooms as a gift. We absolutely loved it. The staff were wonderful, both the sandwiches and cakes were gorgeous and the atmosphere was amazing. We thoroughly recommend. Thank you 🤩
Dionne H — Google review
My boyfriend and I visited for our two year anniversary after reading good reviews. We contacted the tea rooms prior to visiting to see if we could change the sandwich option and they were very highly accommodating as the chef makes the sandwiches fresh - can remove and add anything to the sandwiches. The food was delicious! We ordered the chicken and stuffing, ham and roasted veg sandwiches. It also consisted of two scones (cranberry and white chocolate for my boyfriend and a plain one for me), two gingerbread men, chocolate fudge and two mini mince pies. We were both stuffed and still had a cake slice each to choose from the counter!! We were able to get more hot water for our two pots of tea which is great for a cold day ☺️ The waiter was very friendly and polite - explained the menu very well and was happy to answer any questions. Would highly recommend if you’re visiting Cardiff for the day.

Lovely little tea room in the park. Lots of variety of options. We tried the chocolate cake, berry cake, and tea. Delicious! The cream in the berry cake was particularly great. Will definitely return if we visit Cardiff again. Shout-out to the staff who were so lovely and attentive even during the weekend afternoon rush.
Juliet D — Google review
Went for an afternoon tea. Indoor seating was fully booked so I needed to sit outside. I had a cappuccino and a piece of Victoria sponge. Nothing beats a good coffee in the park. Staff were friendly. My only complaint is that my cake was dry but other than that perfect place for a nice afternoon especially if you like good views!
Kyle F — Google review
This place is so cute! Like a mini castle. The scones.. marvellous! The tea, well I didn't actually have tea but I bet it's the real deal. I had coffee and some scones (I know.. I know) I'll be back though. It's a small tea room with extra seating upstairs, all very relaxing. Definitely worth a visit.
Aron L — Google review
Probably the best afternoon tea I've ever had. Great selection of sandwiches, cakes, and teas. The scones are absolutely delicious and freshly baked, the cream and jam were authentic and veery yummy. I love that they had the choice of fruit or plain scones (I don't like fruit scones ever). The gentleman was so kind and accommodating, we had a brownie to go because I was too full to eat anymore! It was a delicious brownie even when I had the second half the next day. They got back to me really fast when I enquired to make a booking. The seating and rooms were gorgeous, really comfortable, and a very pretty calming setting. Can't wait to come back when I'm in Cardiff next!

Really great experience! The food was fantastic and made fresh, the tea was loose leaf, and the experience was overall lovely! It was my first tea party and I loved it!

Tea house
Breakfast restaurant
Barkers Tea House is a newly opened tea spot in Cardiff, related to the popular Coffee Barker. It offers vintage afternoon teas and a warm atmosphere. The venue is located within Bute Park & Arboretum, housed in a beautifully restored castle-like gatehouse with indoor and outdoor seating options. The place boasts an extensive ten-page tea menu featuring nine different high-quality tea varieties served in cast iron teapots and china cups.
Fabulous tea house and cafe within one of Cardiff’s beautiful arcades. The architecture and decor suit the arcade setting perfectly. The staff are lovely and the food is delicious and also substantial for the price. Recommend and will return.
Rhys P — Google review
Tucked away in the beautiful Victorian arcades of Cardiff, Barker Tea House is a real hidden gem. I stopped in for brunch and was thoroughly impressed – the food, atmosphere, and service were all spot on. I had the eggs Benedict with added avocado, and it was absolutely delicious – perfectly poached eggs, creamy hollandaise, and the avocado was a great addition. Rich, fresh, and really satisfying. I followed it up with a slice of red velvet cake, which was light, moist, and generously frosted – one of the best I’ve had. And of course, no visit to Barker is complete without a proper pot of tea, which was served beautifully in a cast iron pot, and hit the spot. The interior is cosy and full of character, with a relaxed, slightly vintage vibe that fits perfectly with its arcade setting. A lovely spot to unwind and treat yourself. I’ll definitely be back!
Georgina T — Google review
I’m hoping to move to Cardiff later this year so have been exploring the city for my favourite spots, and this is definitely one of them! Bakers is so beautifully decorated and the vibe in there is amazing. There is so much to choose from food wise and it all looks delicious, from homemade cakes to pancakes, breakfast items and afternoon tea. The staff are so wonderful, super attentive and friendly and clearly passionate about what they do. I can’t wait to go back and try more from the menu, thank you for a wonderful experience!
Kathryn B — Google review
We arrived and there were two staff members who turned their backs on us at the counter, ignored us and preceded to talk to themselves. Eventually after 2 minutes one staff member finally acknowledged that we were there. Absolutely poor customer service to start off with. We came in for the afternoon tea for 2 pax on a Saturday, we were told to find a seat and comeback with the table number. I told the staff member the number, went back to the table and decided to change the table number. On doing this and I'm not sure if it is customary, but I was told I had to pay up front quite rudely. 10 minutes later a staff member placed a tray with pots of tea, cups and saucers and didn't set the table, they just left it there for us to set up. The afternoon tea itself was great, a credit to the chef. I would of given the experience 5 stars but the front of house staff gave lousy service, so I took 3 stars off this sitting. I gave 1 star back after the girl who brought us our afternoon tea gave us excellent customer service. Afternoon tea food 5 stars. Front of house service 2 stars.
Heath G — Google review
Perfect spot for a coffee (or food) tucked away nicely from the hustle and bustle of the main streets. Cosy atmosphere inside but we chose to sit outside in the arcade 😊 On a re-visit we sat inside and had the avocado and egg on toast. Disappointed to say that the first offering was not up to par, but the staff dealt with it immediately and apologised. Great when staff are supportive in putting things right. The second offering was much better, but still not the best compared to other places - maybe a rethink needed ?
Mark F — Google review
I visited a few weeks back on a Saturday with a friend for a catch up and afternoon tea. It was nice to be able to do it on a whim as they’re walk ins only on a Saturday in a world of pre-booking! I highly enjoyed and it and would recommend and hope to go back myself! Really tasty scones! The afternoon tea was about £30 for two people you get unlimited tea refills. They also had a big menu which contained sandwiches and pancakes I saw being brought out which looked huge! I sat outdoors and there is blankets on the chairs if needed which is a nice touch especially in wales where it’s likely to be cold / rainy! You order inside at the till but my table didn’t have a menu and there wasn’t really anyone around to ask but luckily we looked in advance. It did take quite a long time for the afternoon tea to come out around half hour so that was the only downside but luckily we weren’t in a rush!
Paige B — Google review
Lovely boutique-style coffee shop. Ordered the smashed avocado on toast with egg and it was lovely but the egg was hard. Asked for an extra egg and it came hard as well. Coffee and tea were both really nice. Every server that attended to us looked surprised all the time, as if they were new? Lovely bathroom - really clean and cute decor.

Fresh, filling & delicious breakfast, tea scones were amazing, the ambience was lovely, the service was excellent! Freshly brewed pomegranate & hibiscus tea was refreshing

The Angel Hotel in Cardiff is a popular choice for visitors attending events at the nearby Principality Stadium. The hotel offers modern rooms with free Wi-Fi and access to a health club. It also features an upscale restaurant, Castell's, which is known for its themed afternoon tea experiences throughout the year. The hotel's Victorian elegance and historical significance make it an appealing option for travelers, with 103 contemporary en-suite rooms and public spaces showcasing gorgeous period features.
We were upgraded so our daughter had her own twin room within our room (Thank you). Bathroom was spot on. All was nice & clean. Only improvements would be a larger TV & air con, (but a large fan was provided & needed - it was rather warm!)
Stewart L — Google review
Deeply disappointing – nothing like the photos We booked this hotel for our first trip away as a couple and were really let down. The room looked absolutely nothing like the photos on the website — those showed new, modern rooms, but the one we were given was old, dated, and felt unclean. There was a large, disgusting stain on the bed when we arrived (photo attached). I asked for it to be changed and although they did while we were out, the staff claimed the stained sheet was “brand new out of the packet,” which was clearly untrue. The bathroom hadn’t even been cleaned properly. The bath was dirty and we both felt worse coming out of the shower than going in. One of the windows wouldn’t even open properly, making the room feel stuffy and unpleasant. The only positive was a nice view of the castle — but even that couldn’t save the experience. We ended up not staying the night and went home instead, just to feel clean and comfortable. Wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. We are now trying to get a refund. I will be happy to take the review down if we get are money back
Billy J — Google review
We travelled as a family of 4 (2 parents, 2 teenagers aged 17 and 13) and were staying one night. The staff on the front desk were very welcoming and the family room was like a palace - with two separate rooms in it: one with a superking bed and the other also very spacious with twins. We were not expecting so much space so were pleasantly surprised! The best thing about this hotel is its fantastic, central location, right in front of the castle and a stone's throw away from the start of the high street. Very close to the university campus also, so perfect location for the Cardiff Uni open day. Using the JustPark app, we planned ahead and booked parking in advance on Greyfriars Road which worked well for us, as we were travelling light. This was just a 3-minute walk away. Sadly we didn't get to trial the bar or food as we headed out for the evening (can recommend Pilgrim Pizza nearby!). The only negative was that our room on the top floor was far too warm, but this was mitigated by two fans placed in the rooms, and we opened the windows and turned the radiators down, which helped somewhat (we were visiting on a mild October day). All in all, an excellent stay. We definitely plan to return when we are next in Cardiff. This is a great hotel.
Debs P — Google review
Stayed in room 118 last night, was an absolute disaster, no hot water last night nor this morning, spoke to the lady on reception and she got management to come up immediately. He checked my taps and managed to fix the hot water. I was offered an upgrade in my room (lovely and spacious). Angel Hotel really redeems themselves . Nice to know they value there customers
Beverley A — Google review
Close to the castle and city centre, this is a great location. Hotel is a little dated and rooms a little tired! Has a good discount available for local carpark but unfortunately does not have its own. Staff helpful and polite and overall suited our needs.
Andy C — Google review
We chose the Angel hotel for our first stay in Cardiff ever ,the location is amazing & the view of the castle is too..lots of pubs/bars & eating places all superb! .. We arrived in reception to not even be greeted by the two ladies who were there, it took my husband to stand there for five minutes then to say hello I ve got a booking for them to respond. Not given any information on the hotel just that the lift was broken & has been for a while by the looks! The rooms were small, and very uncomfortable to sleep in due to been so hot & stuffy with the windows open, bathrooms need some attention too!! The hotel it's self is very dated & needs some love & attention, the pictures you see are far better & not a reflection on the hotel it's self... Sadly Disappointed on the hotel & wouldn't recommend for a stay....
Louise C — Google review
Stayed in this hotel in the early nineties. So decided to go back there, especially for the location (opposite the castle). From the outside it is extremely filthy. Checked in, to be told lift isn’t working- luckily I was on the 2nd floor. It was a maze, to try and locate my room, room 218. The exterior was cracked and crumbling walls, filthy carpet, smelt old. On entering the room the stench. Tried to open the first window, unable to, managed to open the 2nd window. Windows very dirty. £80.75 a night 🤡
Beverley — Google review
The hotel is very run down, it needs a good update. For example The elevator doesn't work. In the bathroom, the bathtub and the shower are with the covers off. The closet in the room was empty, without any shelf to put clothes. To finish cleaning it, we couldn't make the reception lady understand that we needed the room until twelve, we participated in the Half Marathon and after 21km we had to shower and change clothes, how can we pretend that we're going home, Lleida...Catalonia all sweaty, solution, we've passed Olympicly. The only good thing is that it's very well located, from our room we could see the starting arch.

The venue features a courtyard garden and is known for its traditional afternoon tea offering with freshly prepared sandwiches, homemade scones with jam and cream, and a selection of homemade cakes.
Brilliant afternoon tea experience for myself and partner with our 2.5 year old daughter. Jane and the team were very accompanying of her and even did a mini afternoon tea for her. The afternoon tea itself was superb too, I ate it all! Lovely old school furniture and feel to the place with a welcoming team. Very clean and tidy. Great to have 2 hours free parking just across the road. Would highly recommend anyone to visit jaspers if they want a great experience of afternoon tea! Love the paintings around the place too. We will be back!

I finally got to visit a café my friend recommended. It’s been a while since we had sunny weather—it’s cold, but it feels refreshing. This café is perfect for a day like this. I even saw someone drop by while walking their dog. I ordered a pot of Earl Grey and a scone. The clotted cream was lovely, and it came with a little jar of jam. The high tea in the city center was great too, but I’d definitely recommend this place as well.

I had sausage baguette but the sausage was not great. Tasted like cardboard. Salad and bread was good. Wasn’t sure about crisps. My friend had welsh rarebit and liked it. I had a big pot of tea and milk, which was really good. Inside it was very cozy and atmospheric.

A very lovely tea rooms, i must say one of the girls there with brown hair in a pony tail was amazing so very polite, her service was great and always had a smile on her face which made us feel very welcome which helped because i felt a-bit nervous as i hadn't been there before. We had the afternoon tea and it was lovely really fresh and looked great and plenty of options for the sandwiches the egg mayo sandwich was my favourite .

We got married in Insole Court and celebrated with afternoon tea for our family and friends here. Jane went above and beyond to make it an incredible experience for us - we didn't really expect it - it was a nice surprise! We ended up in a private room, the table layout was so thoughtful. Staff were so lovely and attentive. Most of all, everyone enjoyed the food and we were all very full and happy. Thanks for making this time extra special for us!

British restaurant
The Ivy Cardiff is a trendy and eclectic restaurant that offers a unique dining experience. With its plush and classic interior, it has become known for exceptional service. Located within a 15-minute walk from Cardiff Met University accommodation, it's the perfect spot for a boujee Saturday brunch. The menu features a variety of options including seafood, meat dishes, eggs Benedict, buttermilk pancakes, steaks, and more.
Had a delicious meal here with friends. Mostly attentive service although occasionally waiting to get attention , when it wasn’t too busy really. I found the venue a little echoey.however. The environment was lovely.
Gill J — Google review
The venue is beautifully decorated with a stunning atmosphere — definitely a lovely place to sit and relax. The food was alright, nothing exceptional but enjoyable enough. Service, however, was very slow. It felt like there was only one server handling the entire place, which made the experience a bit frustrating. Staff were doing their best, but the venue really needs more hands on deck during busy periods.
Leon B — Google review
Food was absolutely delicious and the service was exceptional, Solomon our waiter went above and beyond to make my birthday meal special. We visited as a family of 5 on the 26th of July, we all had a variety of different meals which were brought out quickly and efficiently, he was very attentive and he couldn't of been more welcoming, he even gave me a birthday desert with my very own candle. His service was excellent and he really made every effort to make the day memorable. Thank you Solomon and the staff at the ivy for making my day so wonderful. Would highly recommend.
Katie W — Google review
Special & “an Experience” - there is no other way to describe it except to say good value too. The decor is amazing and the service formal but in a wonderful way. It’s not somewhere to dash in and dash out. Rather it’s somewhere to relax and soak up the experience. Arguably, other places can sell better perhaps but none will rival will rival the range of menu options or the experience. The central bar island is a work of art and the venue loaded with wonderfully tended plants and interesting art. Where else can you have Champagne for breakfast?
Ashley M — Google review
Not just dining but a true dining experience. From the way you're greeted to the service at the table, from the main room decor to the very plush toilets, everything is an experience. The Ivy Cardiff is probably one of the slightly more expensive places to eat in the city, but, for a special occasion, it is honestly worth trying. Eating there on a Saturday, it was the main menu only, and to be fair, the drinks are what will probably push your bill up. They do have a very nice looking 2-course set menu for certain days which could be a winner in terms of value, if you're being a bit more cost conscious, I'll happily return to test that out. Fantastic food, table water without even asking (something I always ask for), service was brilliant, and you weren't rushed at all, which added to the experience. We booked in advance, so didn't wait for a table. There may be a wait if you just turn up. Oh, and if it's your birthday (as it was for me!) make sure to mention it as they might give you a little treat (see pictures).
Mel W — Google review
Great brunch menu with lots of substantive lunch items but with some breakfast items. Eggs royale with smoked salmon particularly delicious. Great service and set up - as to be expected. Treat yourself. Careful - toilets are up a decent flight of steps…

As a solo diner I thought I might feel a bit weird, but the staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. Beautiful decor as you would expect. Will definitely return.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Full Version From the moment we walked into The Ivy Cardiff, we were treated wonderfully. We were greeted warmly at the front desk and shown to the bar, where the staff were cheerful, polite, and genuinely welcoming. The drinks were absolutely sensational — perfectly crafted and beautifully presented. Our server, a lovely young lady named Mikyla (apologies if that’s not the correct spelling!), was exceptional. She was friendly, relatable, and extremely knowledgeable, offering fantastic recommendations for which drinks paired best with our dishes. The food was simply exquisite. We started with the zucchini fritti — light, crispy, and perfectly seasoned — alongside the salty sourdough, which complemented it beautifully. For mains, we enjoyed perfectly cooked steak with creamy mash and crisp chips. Dessert was the birthday box, which was as delicious as it was fun. On our second visit, we returned for a light brunch — we couldn’t resist ordering the zucchini and sourdough again, and added the maple pancakes on the side. Everything was just as amazing as before. Every single staff member we met was friendly and professional. Special mention to Jamie, who took the time to chat with us and even opened the door as we left — a truly lovely touch. Thank you to everyone at The Ivy Cardiff for making both visits so memorable. We’ll definitely be back soon!

Waterloo Tea is a renowned tea and coffee spot with three locations in Cardiff. It gained recognition as the Best Cafe in the UK in 2009. The tearooms offer an extensive range of loose leaf teas, along with homemade cakes. The ambiance is enhanced by original art, making it a great place to work or relax. In addition to their impressive tea selection, they also serve light lunches and have super-fast WIFI.
Hadn't been here for years but it's still just as good as ever! Huge selection of interesting teas and good coffees/hot chocolates too. But the best bit is definitely the cakes! The vegan chocolate avocado cake was delicious, as was the carrot cake. Highly recommended after a nice walk in the park!

Excellent breakfast spot. We had delicious poached eggs on avocado toast with Hollandaise sauce. Lovely spot and vibes. Great friendly staff!

The staff here were so nice. It was busy but still efficient, I didn’t have to wait long for my takeaway drink. The pumpkin spice latte was good (a bit pricey, but a nice treat). Good atmosphere. Lots of delightful looking vegan cake options on offer.

Disappointed in Afternoon tea here in Waterloo Garden cafe, the tea was 3 tiny finger sandwiches 4 tiny cakes and 1 scone and 1 pot of tea, that's what we had each and it was £50 which was so over pric3d for the food we had, I was taking my friend for her 80th birthday and was Disappointed for her. I have been to so many Afternoon tea and this was by far the worst, not worth £25 n3ver mind £50 .🥲

Visited Waterloo tea rooms for lunch and a drink. There was plenty on seating on arrival but it got busy around prime lunch time. Staff we very welcoming and were happy to help me you select a 'posh' tea. Ordered chicken in a ciabatta it was fresh and very delicious, reasonably priced. Also ordered coffee here that was also very well presented and tasted great. Would recommend to visit here for a drink or for a meal. Parking out side is free and there is a park that is a pleasant walk.

Really nice cute place. Great atmosphere to relax and have a chat. The teas and coffees area really good as well and the staff are nice and friendly, the service is great. Definitely recommend this lovely place.

Great sandwich (I'm not a vegan, but loved the vegan mushroom on brioche bun) and everyone did great with COVID social distancing. Great spot near the park.

In the post office I said to myself ‘all I need now is a cup of tea.’ Lo & behold this understated cafe is right next door! Virtual perfection as you can see. A slice of lemon, leaf tea in a pot, an egg timer for the perfect brew & a piece of polenta cake!

Blossom Cafe, located in the heart of Cardiff on Castle Street, offers a delightful setting for indulging in a leisurely afternoon tea. The menu boasts an array of sandwiches, homemade cakes, and pastries alongside a variety of hot beverages. Visitors praise the cafe's beautiful interior and commend the welcoming staff. The vegetarian Turkish food is particularly highlighted for its healthy and delicious qualities, with special mention given to the delectable homemade bread.
Absolutely scrumptious, light & lovely food, ( mine was vegan ) - :) stunning Greens smoothie as well!! Beautiful vibe, lovely energy in there - staff were so nice and friendly, lots of smiles - gorgeous! Will definitely be going back!!

I booked afternoon tea at Blossom Café with friends and it was a great experience. I’ve been a few times now and the food and drinks never disappoint, everything was fresh and delicious. The service was excellent, and the cosy interior adds to the atmosphere. The warm, welcoming staff really make the visit even better. Highly recommend, whether you’re going for afternoon tea, a drink, or a bite to eat.

One of my fav cardiff cafes, the food is DELICIOUS, I recently had their sharing plate (in the pic) and I really recommend their toasties. The freshly baked bread is to die for! The staff are incredibly friendly and the whole atmosphere is so welcoming & cute. They have many vegan & gluten free options and are very reasonably priced. Love love love

Charming cafe with warm welcoming staff and delicious food, especially the afternoon tea. - Fantastic food with some vegetarian and vegan options. - warm and welcoming staff. - The afternoon tea is amazing with delicious scones, pastries, sandwiches, and free tea refills. A lot of afternoon teas feel overpriced but this one felt more than worth the £20 it cost. - Nice looking interior decor.

For such a pretty cafe it's a surprise the coffee is lovely & the prices are reasonable. Usually these cute little shops are gimmicky, but I love this place! I recommend asking what bread is fresh, & relaxing outside - but on a rainy day inside is obviously more sensible. Owner lady is very sweet and kind, and there is always a big range of sweets and fresh cakes on offer.

We had an amazing morning at Blossom Cafe, we ordered Turkish breakfast and was served in the back garden. It's very cute and stylish and also the food is amazing. My daughter was fascinated of the painting from the garden and she enjoyed her stacked pancakes.

Best falafel I've found in a long time. Home made bread and hummus is also delicious. Mocktail was much tastier than many other places.

The Hilton Cardiff is a sophisticated hotel located in the heart of the city, offering luxurious rooms and suites. Its chic restaurant and trendy bar provide an upscale dining experience, while the on-site spa offers relaxation and rejuvenation. The hotel's central location allows easy access to attractions such as Cardiff Castle and St Davids shopping center. Additionally, it is conveniently close to the Principality Stadium and Motorpoint Arena for entertainment seekers.
This was our first time at the Hilton, and it did not disappoint. From check in to check out, everything was easy and enjoyable. We had a lovely big room for our family and our daughter loved the kids treat bag when we arrived, lots of extra touches that made our stay that much better (thank you Rachel). We had lounge access with our room which we made the most of before dinner, lots of wine, beer and soft drinks on offer. We also loved the kids area with giant Connect 4, colouring and Lego. Breakfast in the morning was brilliant, lots of choice and all well stocked and replenished regularly. Overall a fantastic stay and we'll definitely be booking again! Thank you 😊

This hotel is so well placed. There are loads of restaurants and pubs within walking distance. The ladies at the front desk are well informed, polite, helpful, and professional. The beds are comfortable ensuring good sleep. The curtains are completely black out. The shower is powerful. I only took one star off because of the view out my window, I believe it is the hotels's rubbish site, just look up, not down. To be fair, I didn't spend much time in the room, so it wasn't a big issue. This is a great hotel if you have someone at the uni, I was dropping my niece.

Recently had a stay here with friends for two nights. The staff are all incredible. Rachel in Guest Relations was a wonderful help in setting up some surprises for some friends celebrating their anniversary. She made us feel welcome and the added touches were so thoughtful. The breakfast is great! Plenty of hot options and food quality was good. I did find it odd that after 10 you could only order room service but not at the bar even though the kitchen is by the bar and the front desk folks are the ones who bring your room service. Rooms were nice, relatively modern. The furniture could be more comfy. It was largely decorative. The bed pillows were amazing. The shower was large but they only had a small plastic hand held shower head. The rest of the bathroom is nice they need to upgrade the shower head. Overall this was a great stay and would highly recommend. You can’t beat the location - steps away from the castle and the rest of town.
Keith M — Google review
Great hotel with views of the castle. Really good service, professional yet friendly. Room was good with great view. Large comfy bed. Tea /coffee but no free water. Best thing was the shower, really powerful. Lovely Vegan breakfast, porridge made to order with seeds and dried/fresh fruit. Hash brown and mushrooms. Also excellent service. My only niggle was the price of the wine in the bar.

The room was amazing and the team are superb everyone was warm and welcoming and helpful when we had questions. As I had booked this for a surprise anniversary gift I asked for some help to make the occasion even more special and Rachel Williams (guest relations manager) contacted me and assisted me with making this an extra special weekend break for my wife, all I can say is she had gone over and above to help make what would have been a special occasion even more special. When I stay in Cardiff again this hotel will be my first choice and if it's for a special occasion I shall be reaching out to Rachel for some help

Good hotel but that's what it is supposed to be for the price. I spent four nights here on a business trip, used the laundry service which was flawless, ate breakfasts in the restaurant which were decent, and used the hotel gym on the second floor which is nice except the very loud music. Good location at the city center with restaurants in a short walking distance. I didn't use the indoor swimming pool but it looked nice, suitable for lap swimming.

I had a lovely stay at this hotel on a Friday night. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The hotel was a short walk away from Queen Street station. I was about to check in 5 hours early without charge which was extremely helpful. And the complimentary Welsh cakes was a lovely touch. I’d definitely stay here again.
Chris J — Google review
Nestled in an ideal location across from Cardiff Castle, the hotel offered easy access to major sights and attractions. Museums, galleries, and historic landmarks were a stone’s throw away, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the local culture effortlessly. From the moment we stepped into the lobby, I felt special. The staff greeted us with warm smiles and genuine enthusiasm. The check-in process was seamless—efficient yet personal. The receptionist took a moment to inquire about our journey and offered thoughtful recommendations for dinner and local attractions. Our bags needed to be stored for a few hours, and they were whisked away and easily retrieved later in the day (no tip expected). Our room was lovely —spacious, impeccably clean, and filled with thoughtful details. The bed, dressed in crisp white linens, was extremely comfortable. The large windows offered a panoramic view of Cardiff Castle, City Hall and the museum. The hotel’s restaurant and bar were exceptional! We were SO grateful when a member of the staff went out of his way to order steamed broccoli for me rather than whatever vegetable they were serving. Breakfast was welcoming, with an abundant spread of multi-cultural items. What truly set this hotel apart was the consistent commitment to guest satisfaction. Every staff member, from housekeepers to concierge to barkeeps, exuded professionalism and warmth. Requests, no matter how small or great, were addressed with professionalism, promptness and a smile. Anyone seeking a memorable, restorative hotel experience in Cardiff need look no further.

Nestled on the waterfront of Cardiff Bay, voco St. David's Cardiff is a modern hotel offering stylish rooms with private balconies and bay views. The hotel features an iconic sail-shaped roof, adding to the architectural allure of the area. Guests can indulge in fine dining at the Admiral restaurant or pamper themselves at the acclaimed Marine Spa, known for its use of organic products.
What can I say about this hotel? Simply sublime! It was a wonderful stay. Comfortable, clean, the staff were very attentive and friendly (look out for their badges). We loved every minute of our break. The only small criticism I would make is that the restaurant menu is very limited for vegetarians and vegans. However, I will strongly state that this is a minor criticism not a complaint. The food served was delicious and the breakfasts were excellent with a varied selection. The spa is pleasant and relaxing, unfortunately we didn't get to spend a lot of time in there as we had lots planned for our trip. I can not praise the hotel enough, we can't wait to stay again.

My stay at voco St David's Cardiff was truly exceptional and easily one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had in the UK. This hotel is an iconic landmark for a reason! Location & View: The setting on Cardiff Bay is simply breathtaking. I highly recommend booking a room with a balcony; the panoramic views over the water are unforgettable, especially at sunset. It's perfectly positioned for exploring the bay area, with easy access to the waterfront bars and restaurants. Service: The staff deserves special commendation. From the moment we checked in to the minute we left, the service was attentive, warm, and highly professional. Every request was handled quickly and cheerfully. Comfort & Design: The rooms are luxurious, modern, and spotlessly clean. The 'voco' touches—especially the super comfortable bed and premium amenities—ensure a restful night's sleep. The overall hotel design feels stylish and sophisticated without being stuffy. If you are looking for a top-tier experience, amazing views, and flawless service in Cardiff, look no further. Highly, highly recommended!

Our experience at this hotel was amazing from start to finish. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, polite and helpful. The hotel is beautiful and the spa facilities fantastic. The views from our room were absolutely stunning. We had a one night stay as a big treat (away from the children!) for the first time in some years. So glad we picked here to stay, it was so relaxing. Cardiff Bay itself is a lovely place to visit. Our room was very clean, very comfortable bed, huge bathroom with a great shower. Parking was no problem, yes it's chargeable but we knew this before coming. Would throughly recommend and this hotel should be extremely proud of it's wonderful staff. 5 stars all round. Loved it.

I would like start with reception service "Rowan" was incredible 10/10, warm welcome with big smile. She explained to us everything very well and also mentioned what/where we can visit all beautiful places in Cardiff so Thank you so much for that. I would like to mention a few things that I observed during our stay please consider this as improvement not criticism. 1. Lifts could be improve a lot both normal and health club one as feel really old and make you dizzy when going up and down not just from me but a few others mentioned as well. 2. Re-stock in room before check in e.g tissue, plastic bin bag and also would be great to have different option of handwash and shampoo. 3. Carpet was smelling little bit specially when you come from outside so maybe deep clean required. Overall hotel location is the best, view from rooms is awesome and people are very welcome and nice so thank you for hosting us and will visit again👌.

A wellness treatment by Kanchan is highly recommended. This young lady can massage the stress points out of my body with her magical hands. A very pleasant treatment, firm yet relaxing. Kanchan immediately puts you at ease and has a good sense of where the stress points are. Friendly and understanding. She was professional, attentive, and made sure I was comfortable throughout the session. The pressure was perfect, and I left feeling completely refreshed and tension-free. Unfortunately, time flies, and you regret that the treatment is over. Highly recommended. The only downside is that the treatment cannot be enjoyed as a couple. Thank you, Kanchan.

Disappointing stay My family stayed at voco St. David’s, Cardiff on 11 August 2025 (booking under my husband’s name, who is an IHG One Rewards Platinum Member) with our two teenagers. Sadly, our experience fell well below the standards we expect from IHG. Key issues: 1. Poor room assignment and lack of communication We were given a room with a poor view without prior warning or an inquiry into our preferences. As Platinum members, in past stays we’ve consistently been asked about preferences—floor level, view, etc.—if upgrades weren’t available. That courtesy was absent here. 2. Unauthorized early check-out Despite being assured at check-in that we had until noon to check out, the hotel checked us out without contacting us. They later said that a key card pocket with our name was left at the desk, so they “assumed” we’d left. But I still had both the key and pocket with me, and there was no effort to verify. This caused unnecessary stress and ruined part of our day exploring Cardiff. What did go well: The staff member who listened to my complaint afterward was exceptionally polite, sincere, and professional. Also, the lady who got us a table for breakfast was warm, welcoming, and greeted us with a genuine smile. IHG has since contacted me and apologized for the issues. I will continue staying at other IHG properties, but I will not be returning to this hotel.

Beautiful place, great location, very close to town centre, but great to be away from the noise. Rooms are beautifully furnished. Great bar area and the food was amazing. Really tasty and high quality. We were luck enough to be there with beautiful weather so took advantage of the lovely outdoor seating area.we tasted their own brand gin, Infusion 73, and bought a bottle to bring home too. Thanks for a great stay..will definitely be returning

I'm cancelling out Julie's false 5-star review. She hasn't even stayed at this overpriced hotel but she's marking it as give stars to own people? No! Read the reviews, everyone: don't stay at this dive with its aggressive owner.

Where do I start, the staff the food everything was perfect. We had a vow renewal meal here in the orangery, everyone was so professional nothing was too much trouble. We booked a room which was stunning, decorated to the highest boutique standard. A little bit of small luxury in this fine establishment. Thank you for making my parents day and night so special. I will definitely be back. Highly recommended. Thank you again for everything.

Absolutely disgusting hosts on four in a bed. On a mission to find stains on pillows incredibly rude and defensive not able to take criticism. The hotel was too expensive for what it was worth with faulty facilities and additional charges terrible value for money do not stay here. Disgusting.

Had my daughter's baby shower there today. Was lovely. Some had afternoon tea some had tapas with bottomless gin or prossco. We all had a great time. Lovely venue and great service especially by Shauna who attended to our every need.

Arguably the best quality to cost ratio for food in Cardiff. Menu was limited the night I visited but I was warned beforehand. Menu was tapas style, not extensive but a good range. Portion size was good and food quality was consistently excellent. 6 good sized tapas plates, two glasses of wine and a dessert for £20 a head is excellent value. Service was good, food came quickly and staff checked regularly but disappeared when it was time to pay which was frustrating and only reason I haven't put it as 5 (I'd like to have gone 4.5!)

Unexpected late booking at a great price. Located about 20 mins walk from station and much closer to all the stadiums it was a excellent little find. Nice personal welcome from reception, fully stocked bar with a focus on gin which apparently served all hours. Room was an absolutely delight, spacious very stylish and comfortable...I had a walk in shower, slightly odd but amazing bath in the lounge area as well as seating, dinning table and huge bed. Recommended!

Wow what can I say..... what a beautiful hotel. Could not fault anything about the place. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. Myself and my mum said for one night to watch Ed Sheeran and the hotel is in perfect location the the stadium and town centre. When we arrived back from the town in the evening we were greeted by the most lovely helpfully night porter who went out of his way to ensure we were happy. He was lovely and kept myself and my mum company while we had a few hours of drinking. The night porter was so happy friendly and ensured we had everything we needed. You can tell he enjoys his job and is extremely professional.

Second visit to Cafe Rouge in Cardiff - first time one of the courses had to be sent back due to the steak being incorrectly prepared however the response from the staff was timely and polite with a high degree of satisfaction. The second time the drinks took too long to arrive (about 40 minutes) - the main courses took far longer and when they arrived two of the four were wrong. Very dissappointed. Bluster and excuses from the staff - we left.

Chapel 1877 is a unique Welsh restaurant and bar located in central Cardiff, housed in a beautifully restored chapel dating back to 1877. The venue seamlessly blends the historic medieval chapel with modern artistic elements and contemporary dining. The interior boasts ornate and exuberant decor inspired by French-Italian designs from the 1800s, creating a sophisticated atmosphere for visitors.
I was really lucky to walk in and manage to get a table without booking. It was pretty packed when I left. I was given a table by the kitchen area where I could see the live view of the chefs cooking our dishes. The restaurant is based in a chapel converted. Really feeling the coziness in the restaurant and romantic for sure in the evening. Food was superb. really enjoyed the scallop pork belly starter although I could see the dish was served in different presentation for other tables - guess the head chef is trying to get the best presentation of that dish. The steak was alright, really rich sauce to go well with the steak. The lamb was lovely cooked, juicy and tender medium rare 😋. Didn’t go with dessert as I was full but my overall experience here was fantastic!! Please do book this place for any celebration or romantic dinner.

The restaurant preserves the structure of a old Chapel, which gives it a unique atmosphere, with many cozy corners and large interior balconies. The food was excellent in its taste and presentation. The attention was outstanding from the very beginning to the end. Definitely a place to share a romantic dinner or with friends. Located in the center of Cardiff. It is absolutely a "must visit".

Went for lunch in one if the booths. Best to book ad it can be busy and only got 3 booths as well! Refit very tastefully done with most of the original features as well. Good selection on the menu and wine. Everything is done very well. You are looked after by the staff room start to finish. In the city centre at the bottom of Churchill Way. Very easy to get to and only a couple of mins walk to the St David 2 shopping centre. Well worth a visit. This was our first time for a Birthday treat. Will be going again soon.

Came here to try a higher class of dining on a student budget, so booked and ordered from the bar menu. Was quite busy with people coming and going mainly for a drink (Monday night). Staff were friendly enough, although there was no drinks menu which made ordering at the bar quite awkward. Food came quickly, and tasted great, but was maybe a smaller portion than I would have liked for the money - probably due to the level of cooking in fairness... Some slight confusion (that came across as reluctance) when using a voucher code, but overall really lovely food with decent service and a ln interesting location.

I have definitely reviewed this before but very happy to do so again - this is a fabulous local business that serves a breakfast and lunch menu of freshly made and home-cooked food. Lovely atmosphere and the owner and staff are wonderful. Tea and coffee and are decent and the homemade cakes and treats are outstanding. Support a local business, firstly because they deserve it and secondly because the chain shops and cafes will be fine anyway.

There are two tables by the entrance that are dog friendly and some outdoor seating. I enjoyed my Turkish Delight hot chocolate, it was to die for! Cadwaladers is a family-run ice cream shop with multiple locations in Cardiff. Since its humble beginnings selling vanilla ice cream in North Wales in 1927, the shop has expanded throughout Wales and England, offering an array of changing flavors, unique chilled drinks, high-quality coffees, and velvety smooth hot chocolates. The parlour also serves delicious brunch and lunch options including freshly baked pizzas (with vegan options), breakfast waffles with honey and fruit, as well as special kids' meals.
Great ice cream and smoothies, good service and friendly. Not too busy so we got a table over looking the water outside, was beautiful sights while we stuffed our face of yummy food!

I have travelled around continents and tried all kind off Desserts. But this place made me order second time, Delicious Coffee and chocolate flavors. The cone is crispy and doesn’t get soggy. Had an amazing experience.

I don't always remember to leave reviews, but our visit was so lovely, I wasn't going to forget this one. Our coffees and cakes were absolutely delicious. They had exactly what we wanted, perfect after a lovely walk around the Bay. As for the service, it doesn't get much better. Amy was delightful, so friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. What a credit to the company - thank you for making our visit perfect. We'll be back!

Today I visited the Cardiff Branch on a day out here Cardiff Bay as I've not a Cadwaladers Ice Cream in years as I used to go up North Wales on Holiday and visit the stores there. I reached out to the facebook page and spoke with Paul and told him I knew the Andrews Family no problem when you come in tell them I sent you and you can have 20% of your ice cream! Happy Days it went down a treat! :o)

Nice clean and friendly restaurant with a good view of the Cardiff bay. Prices were cheap for what is being sold and it was a great place to spend a Sunday evening, would 100% recommend to anyone if you are in the area There are plenty of seats inside and outside if you wish to dine in or the takeaway for ice cream outside of the store. Really quick service by the staff, i ordered a Proper Mint Sundae and it arrived within 10 minutes and tasted great. Enjoyed it Vegetarian options are available and multiple milk options/dairy requirements are available but you need to ask the staff directly if you want any changes to your order

Lovely ice cream and in a nice spot over the water with views across Cardiff Bay. We took our eldest here for a birthday treat as he’s obsessed with ice cream and it didn’t disappoint. The children’s ice cream sundaes are a manageable size. The strawberry and white chocolate waffle that I ordered was absolutely gorgeous. The coffee’s good here and they have decaf at no extra cost. There’s also vegan options. We’ll most definitely be back!

Amazing service. The best ice cream. My daughter is gluten free, vegan with a soya intolerance and the manager took time with her to work out what she could eat and created a sundae for her. Absolutely brilliant. Thanks so much!!!

Had lovely breakfast here, one of the best I've had. Plenty of choice on the menu for lunches, lot of homemade. Really friendly place, was like we knew everyone as soon as we walked in. Loved it can't wait to call again.

Not trying to be a kiss ass or sell you this place, but if you want great customer service, cracking food and a wicked sense of humour then this is the place for you. staff members are as warm and welcoming as the food they serve, i've had and enjoyed there food in the winter and now in summer, so you can say it's most definitely well worth eating all year round! food is with you less then 5 minutes, bar from when it's super busy of course because it's usually just the two guys working so give them a break and go grab a table with some full hearty food! 🤘

I first came here for a breakfast in 2006 while doing ‘Sparky’ work in Penarth. Great boys who recognised me as soon as I walked in the door. Fantastic breakfast back then that my apprentice and I used to plan the whole day around 😂. The best breakfast in Cardiff 👌👍👏

Little Man Coffee is a popular local coffee shop with a laid-back atmosphere, offering a variety of beverages including espresso, smoothies, and tea. The shop also serves cafe meals and pastries. It's an ideal spot for remote workers as the staff welcomes them and sometimes offers a fixed rate for working there all day, with inclusive tea and coffee available. Additionally, visitors can claim a free cup of coffee if they arrive before 10 am.
I was recommended to try this place, and I really enjoyed it. I had a v60 pour over with the house blend beans and it was lovely, rich and flavourful but not at all bitter. I also had a delicious bacon bap with a lovely soft seeded bap. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and decor here, a great mix of comfortable arm chairs, industrial furniture and what looks like church pews. Brilliant. Everyone was so helpful and I was offered a choice of v60, cafetiere, or aeropress. I have walked past this café many times, I just wish I'd walked in sooner. Highly recommended.

The only vegan food they had was some carrot cake (and I grabbed the last slice…!) I wish they’d offer more vegan options. The space itself is very nice and cozy, good music but not too loud.
CDM — Google review
I recently visited this café which not only served a variety of breakfast and brunch options but also offered what I can confidently say was the best coffee I had during my time in Cardiff. I opted for a black Americano, but it was clear they took their coffee seriously, with an evident dedication to quality that shone through in every sip. The beans were expertly brewed, resulting in a rich, well-balanced flavour profile that highlighted the nuances of the coffee without being overshadowed by bitterness. It’s refreshing to find a place that genuinely cares about the craft of coffee-making. The atmosphere of the café complemented the experience beautifully. With its vintage chairs, wall-mounted artwork that added an artistic touch, and an overall relaxed décor, the space had a distinct hipster vibe that made it inviting. It’s the perfect setting for enjoying a good coffee, whether you’re looking to engage in conversation with friends or simply unwind with a book. If you’re in Cardiff and searching for a place that values quality coffee in a charming environment, this café is definitely worth a visit.

Friendly staff, everything was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere was super chill. Good prices as well. If we lived in Cardiff, we’d be regulars!! 💛
Melina V — Google review
Nice concept in an up and coming location. Food was pretty good and prices reasonable for city centre location. Staff could have been more attentive and professional - no spoon with coffee, not much engagement when placing order and all stood around chatting when we left and called thanks. A bit more attention to detail would really make a difference.
Jo P — Google review
Love this spot for GOOD coffee and cute small bites. Refreshingly independent in the sea of the center’s chains, great value, lovely atmosphere and vibe. Plus my kids’ favorite hot chocolate (with whipped cream). Long live little man!
Freda K — Google review
Service was good, it’s a nice little cafe - some comfy seating. I didn’t eat, cakes looked nice though. However, the cappuccino was horrible - just learn to make a decent cappacino and you’d have a great cafe. Mine was just a milky coffee.
S H — Google review
Update for December 2023: Possibly my favourite cafe anywhere. Coffee is great, staff are phenomenal and so friendly, and it is just such a chilled out spot. I love that they stock so many coffees from a huge variety of different welsh coffee roasters, and can even enjoy this selection at home now with the new coffee box delivery Little Man do. I have so much love for Team Little Man - thank you all! :) Original post: My favourite cafe in Cardiff. Coffee is fantastic, food is delicious, and they cater to veggie and vegan too which is good for our friends. Always vigilant and helpful with my allergies - can't fault them. The staff are all lovely and the atmosphere is chilled and happy. Not too pretentious, and doing their bit for the community. Also dog friendly, and they even deliver coffee or alt milks to your door! 6/5 stars if I could!

Cafe
Coffi Co is a rapidly expanding chain of Welsh coffee shops and restaurants, with multiple locations in Cardiff and one in Penarth. The menu features an extensive selection of coffees, hot chocolates, gins, and other beverages, as well as a variety of brunch items, burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, and salads. The establishment also offers a friendly atmosphere with live music. In addition to its diverse coffee offerings, Coffi Co has expanded its presence to Abergavenny and Monmouth.
I heard it before I saw it. The Spanish guitar lured me into a shipping container housing Coffi Co. Life on the bay, glorious views and the most delightful employee, Huxley with a smile as warm as the sunshine. “I love the music! Thank you. It drew me in.” A perfect combination — passionfruit iced tea, the sea and mellow sounds. I didn’t eat so I can’t comment on the food but the atmosphere was spot on, and the hard edged, grey scale, industrial exterior contained a soft, warm heart. Hugely recommended, but only if Huxley is at the helm.

Saturday 5th April. Two of the male staff looked like they got dressed out of a skip! The toilets had no soap and you could hardly force the door shut. The only food on the menu was ham and cheese toastie or cheese and onion. This was at 1.30pm. There was a pizza oven outside that was smoking the whole outside seating area out! We ordered 2 ham and cheese toaties and 2 halfs of lager. 10 minutes later a staff member came out and said that they didn't have any ham and offered us cheese and onion or a refund. 2 minutes later another staff member told us the same thing, we told him we had already said we'd have have onion instead, but our drinks hadn't arrived. He said they were inside and he'd get them. One of them was bearly over half full when they finally came and when I mentioned it he just ignored me and walked off. It has definitely gone downhill over the past few months. The cheese and onion toasties were actually nice.

This cafe was our salvation today when the heavy rain and strong winds hit Cardiff Bay. It offers lovely views of the area and a delicious looking array of cakes and pastries. I had a sausage bap which had two tasty sausages in it and was very good value for £5.00. Breakfast is served until 12pm and I would definitely come back

Weird Eurovision style teen pop playlist blasting out late morning, not sure who wants to hear that, not me. Ordered via a screen and it then took ages to get served even though pretty quiet. Decent coffee and nice spot close to the water. Place could be a lot better.

Stopped for a coffee and loaded hot chocolate. Venue was busy, order via screen set up, all quite efficient. Service reasonable but slightly impersonal. Hot chocolate looked better than it was so slightly disappointing but otherwise a relatively painless experience. Might revisit for food next time.

We arrived for brunch, it was a lovely day to sit outside. We ordered coffee lime cordial, and poached egg and sourdough toast. We waited 15 mins for our drinks and was then told there was no lime so offered blackcurrant instead. In the meantime, used the bathroom, used the last of the toilet paper, told the staff and they said they’d run out as waiting for a delivery. Drank out drinks still enjoying the nice weather waiting for our food. We waited….. asks where food was after 40 minutes and was told there was a 45 minute delay on food which I explained we weren’t told on ordering and she said she had only just started on duty and nothing she could do about it, she wasn’t particularly sorry and I wasn’t the only one waiting a long time, there were other disgruntled people. The waitress that did serve us was apologetic and polite and she did look sorry. The food was not fab, sourdough was stale and no butter on the bread it was very dry. It’s a shame as this place is in a nice location.

Located on Queen Street in Cardiff, 200 Degrees Coffee Shop & Barista School offers a cozy and spacious indoor seating area with a prominent Victoria Arduino Black Eagle espresso machine at the counter. The shop also provides comfortable armchair seating towards the back for a more relaxed experience. Known for its Brazilian Love Affair blend and roasted coffee beans at 200 degrees, this spot is popular for its premium-tasting coffees and delicious sweet treats.
A great coffee shop on Queens Street reasonably priced, good service and good selection of cakes etc. although I only had a cup of tea this time. Easy access straight from the street, no steps to negotiate. Free WiFi inside which people use (students mostly). I love the sitting room feel at the back of the shop with a fireplace and fake fire (see photos).

We were in Cardiff city centre early, ahead of the Wales v Ireland match (22.02.25) and this my son's 'go to' coffee shop when he's back in South Wales (he lives in Bristol) but I'd never been there before. 2 coffees and a couples of pastries bought. The Spanish latte (contains condensed milk and I could really taste it. Used to have sandwiches made with the stuff, back in the early 70's 😋) is highly recommended.
Stephen L — Google review
200 Degrees is my favorite spot for morning coffee when in Cardiff! Their coffee is incredibly delicious, and the pastries are just as good. The service is some of the best I’ve seen.. so polite and refined. The lady working there was amazingly understanding when I had an issue with my card and handled it in such an unexpectedly kind way.
L S — Google review
National chain. Espresso was fine. I had 3 issues with this location: 1. WiFi is terribly slow. Speed test measured 2Mbps down/0.7 up. I wouldn't have made a purchase here if I knew I was just going to have to find another coffee shop to work at. 2. Rude worker. 3. Hypocritical. They claim: 'Due to allergy reasons, only food and drinks bought at this store can be consumed here'. However, they allow/encourage dogs inside; staff will bring over pet water bowls. Pet dander is of course a common allergen - and one that goes airborne even more easily than nuts, products of which they also sell here. Just say that you're a business, and that you don't want other businesses' products used in place of your own; this is a perfectly standard policy. Don't try to frame it as faux compassion; that's just insulting to your customers' intelligence.
J. — Google review
Awesome couple of hours spent with Barista Ally doing the latte art course at the Barista school. Ally was great and put us at ease quickly and was very attentive and patient. Patience was definitely needed as it's a lot harder than it looks. Much respect to baristas everywhere!

Very nice coffee shop. Roasts own beans, tea is loose leaf and good quality. Family had breakfast croissants, which were excellent. I had the breakfast bagel. Lovely bagel - slightly to peppery sausage but that is personal taste. Lovely atmosphere, very chilled. Staff were efficient and plesent.
Robert H — Google review
I very much enjoyed my visit, lovely coffee, nice and friendly staff, nice lighting and a relaxed atmosphere. The price was not too bad. I would have preferred a bit more space between the smaller tables. Overall I'd say it's one of the best places I've had coffee in Cardiff. Definitely worth a visit.

The Coal Exchange Hotel, located in the historic 19th-century coal exchange building in Cardiff, offers a luxurious experience with refined rooms and upscale dining. The hotel is known for its swanky bottomless brunches at Culley's Kitchen and Bar, where guests can enjoy freshly produced brunch fare and unlimited Prosecco or beer for 90 minutes.
Beautiful hotel in a fantastic location. I think the room was due a bit of a spruce up including air-conditioning, although we did stay in a heatwave and I was informed they are in the process of having it installed which takes time on a listed building. We also didn't have hot water, for one night that was no issue. Breakfast was lovely, very tasty and fresh. But the best thing was the staff, they were so friendly and helpful it made our stay feel extra special, big shout out to Scott (I think his name was) for going the extra mile for us. We will be back 🥰
Johanna M — Google review
What a shame - and what a missed opportunity. The hotel is housed in an incredible old building and the outside approach is striking as you walk to the main entrance - almost like a grand French chateau. Unfortunately there are all sorts of let-downs once you check in. The purple and black decor is more like a relic of a bad 90s nightclub - does anyone really want padded black leather behind their head, deep purple walls and a random history of the building printed on the ceiling above the bed? (Weirdest design decision of all - see photo...) We had a bed which was comfortable and clean but pretty small - too small for the size of room or for us to sleep comfortably. It was also hot and stuffy throughout the hotel - with double glazed/double width windows that restricted the amount of fresh air you could get into your room. There is an amazing grand hall behind reception, but it's just left abandoned and unlit in between functions and feels like a forgotten part of the building - right in the centre of it. The breakfast buffet is extensive but poor quality - worst (bready and tasteless) sausages I have had for a while, black pudding that wasn't cooked, powdery scrambled egg, tinned mushrooms. The only yogurts available were banana and toffee flavoured - not a great breakfast choice. And you pay extra for a proper coffee. Someone with a bit of taste needs to grab this place and shake it up - it could be fantastic, but currently feels dated and unloved. Could do better...
Prio7342 — Google review
We’ve stayed over a year ago and had a lovely experience however, sadly this time we were severely underwhelmed and won’t be coming back. The room was poorly lit, the toilet leaking, and both the bath and shower taps in the room were broken. Also, the hotel was hosting an event, around 50/60 guests were in the lobby on arrival drinking and socialising, it was extremely difficult and uncomfortable getting to reception to check in. The music from this event was playing until midnight which kept us awake. The only saving grace was the receptionist who was extremely welcoming and kind.

Booked for the 26th October at a price of £244 for breakfast and king size room with king bed and hot tub. On arrival was told they had trouble with my booking and didn't have king size bed only 3 beds in the room with hot tub. As this was a romantic weekend away immediately it was spoilt my the actions of hotel. Fair to say we will not be back there. Was offered no refund or compensation so had to stay in room not impressed. Breakfast very good girls in breakfast room amazing. Overall reception terrible service terrible. Breakfast and staff amazing

My wife and I had the absolute pleasure of staying at The Coal Exchange on the 8th of August 2025, and we honestly can’t speak highly enough of the entire experience. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism. A big thank you to Jamie on reception, who was incredibly friendly and polite – he made us feel instantly welcome and set the tone for a fantastic stay. Our room was stunning – beautifully decorated, spacious, and spotlessly clean. The highlight was definitely the spa bath in the room, which added a luxurious and relaxing touch to our evening. It was the perfect way to unwind. We also had the chance to dine at the hotel’s restaurant, and the food was nothing short of amazing. Every dish was full of flavour and beautifully presented. Special mention goes to restaurant managers Haley and Sam T, who were both outstanding – attentive, professional, and clearly passionate about delivering a great dining experience. All in all, The Coal Exchange exceeded our expectations in every way. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

First room we were given was dirty, carpet not cleaned and no toilet roll in bathroom. They gave us a new room. Table was dirty. Tiles around bath were dirty. The sheets were popping off the bed before we got into it so it was a battle all night. Bedside tables were taller than the bed so were a hazard for bumps as the beds are also small. We booked this hotel over others in the area for the jacuzzi bath but there was no hot water not even for washing your hands. Never again!!

We just got back from a lovely 2 night stay at the Coal Exchange Hotel. The hotel has so much character and charm, rooms are spacious with lovely facilities throughout the hotel. The restaurant ‘Aura’ is a must do, the food is amazing. The staff are always smiling, very helpful, friendly and the service was excellent. I would highly recommend eating and staying at the Coal Exchange Hotel. Is a perfect location also as Cardiff Bay is on your doorstep. Thanks for a lovely weekend break.

Wally's Kaffeehaus in Cardiff offers a taste of Viennese coffee house culture with its continental breakfasts, open sandwiches, and strong coffee. The place also features a foodie emporium on the ground floor. It's known for its authentic Viennese-style coffee options like Melange and Franziskaner, along with a variety of pastries and sandwiches. Despite being somewhat of a hidden gem, it provides friendly and efficient service.

Staff member was incredibly rude to my mother upon arrival, in effect unloading her own stress onto a customer who just had a simple query prior to taking a seat. Coffee & food also took an age to arrive.

This place is brilliant I have no complaints at all the hot sausage platter with a German pilsner is the only thing I have and it's just fantastic and filling. The staff are lovely and very friendly and polite too.

Brilliant and wonderful selections of food and drink from across the globe, including a wide range of salamis and whiskies to name a few! The place can get a bit cramped at times but that's understandable as it is the holiday season! However, the patience and attention from staff is absolutely top notch and are able to answer any question you have from the straightforward to the unusual! This place is a must visit for foodies everywhere!

Unfortunately due to my nut allergy, I was informed I could not or should not have basically all of the food they served here. It is a shame going to a café that cannot account for these allergies and meant I had to go elsewhere for food. However that doesn't take away from the fact that the staff were lovely, the drinks were lovely, and the place itself is very nice.
