Exit Zero Filling Station is a laid-back eatery with a nostalgic diner atmosphere and an option for outdoor dining. It's a unique blend of a gas station, airstream trailers, bar, and restaurant that seamlessly come together in one of America's oldest beach towns. The establishment offers a diverse menu featuring burgers, curries, and cocktails. The weekly magazine named after the place adds to its charm.
My wife and I visited this past Wednesday night, and we both loved our meals. I had the Christmas Curry and she had the Bang Bang Shrimp and Chicken curry. Both dishes were amazing and delicious! A lot of thought went into the menu and decor, and our server was welcoming, friendly, and attentive. This was all a wonderful dining experience. Very special.

We came to eat here at the end of August. The atmosphere was very nice. It had outdoor seating with charming decor. We came at opening time on a Monday, and live music was being setup. Our selection was Indian Disco Fries, Brussels Sprouts, and Bang Bang Chicken & Shrimp. The fries were pretty good. I liked the mild curry flavor paired with the creamy goat cheese on top of crispy waffle fries. The Brussel Sprouts were great! They were crispy and a bit sweet. We weren't big fans of the curry. It was okay, but perhaps a bit too mild and toned down for our taste. The chicken and shrimp were also a bit overcooked. Overall, it was a pleasure eating here, and I'd come back again.

I love coming here every summer, especially for their curry. However after today I will never go again! We ordered the Butter Chicken Curry as usual, which came out to be nothing like it was before! The sauce looked almost separated with oil/butter. And mixing the rice in/ stirring everything together only made it worse! It was like a spoonful of oil every time you picked up your spoon. We also ordered the naan bread, which came out wrapped in aluminum foil rather than a plate! One of our forks was also dirty/ still covered with food, therefore we asked for another and got a new fork that also had food on it! The place and decorations were all the same. Our waiter was super nice and even took the curry dishes off the bill. But I don’t even think I could ever come back to that place after seeing that as my dish. And in the end I didn’t feel like I was eating at a restaurant, felt like I was eating at an overpriced fast food place! Also they have completely shortened the menu so don’t expect everything to still be there. The menus are a double sided piece of paper that they reuse to everyone even after rips and food stains from guest before

A little strange thought we were pulling up to some type of BBQ little did i know not at all it was indian food didnt see one indian person either all i saw was white people and a 14 year old spanish boy who brought us out the food so confused first thing they gave us menus with sauce on them the food was good my salmon little over done and the fries were cold and hard but they bring out new ones not going to be to hard on them think I could but it was tasty so yea.
Matthew S — Google review
Had a wonderful dining experience here! The atmosphere is very homely, and the food is definitely a must try. There’s plenty of vegan substitutes as well! Pad Thai is a must try here for sure.
Ramya P — Google review
Dude... what a fusion of comfort foods and flavors with the indian influence. This place is such a vibe. Best spot so far after a couple years visiting cape may. VISIT HERE.
Kasra H — Google review
Been a while since we stopped here but I never wrote the review. Very interesting concept that works for nice summer days. The food was amazing! The lobster Mac and cheese had more lobster than noodles and was delicious. My wife got the butter chicken that I thought I wouldn't like but the flavors were so complimentary to each other and it ended up being my favorite dish. The only reason I gave 4 stars was the burger I got was barely average and tasted rather boring. But will stop again if we are riding down this way.
Omar — Google review
Interesting and innovative eatery. Ordered a chicken curry that was a very odd flavor. Curries can vary a lot and this is their style, and they do try to explain the heavy coconut milk base. I was most unhappy with the offering of a Nan that was just a pita wrapped in foil. Really?

The Mad Batter Restaurant & Bar is a lively bistro in Cape May, NJ that serves American cuisine from breakfast to dinner. The restaurant features a cozy atmosphere and often hosts live music. It offers made-from-scratch breakfasts, fresh salads for lunch, and uncomplicated European-style dishes for dinner, including options for vegetarians. The bar boasts a diverse selection of reasonably priced wines by the glass. This casual spot is known for its affordable eats and welcoming ambiance.
What a nice place. I'm more fond of the back area near the bar, it has a more relaxing vibe. The food was very good, the apple pie french toast was excellent. I'd go back any time. Very friendly staff. Haven't been here in 12 years but still as good as I remember .. I will mention i would have preferred not to hear the Rhianna album the entire time I was there but you cant always get classical or Sinatra

Soild brunch spot in Cape May! Even with a 45 min wait, the experience was totally worth it. The atmosphere was relaxed, the staff was welcoming, and the food delivered big on flavor. The corned beef hash was the highlight—crispy, tender, and deliciously seasoned. Breakfast potatoes were spot-on too. Portions were reasonable, and the chicken salad croissant was a pleasant surprise in both size and taste. Highly recommend for a laid-back, tasty brunch!
Will S — Google review
Not as impressive as expected This restaurant offers a wide variety of breakfast options, so I had high hopes. I ordered the Brussels sprouts fritters, but they didn’t taste as good as I expected. There was still a strong, unpleasant green taste from the vegetables, and honestly, I don’t think deep-frying works well for this dish. I also tried the award-winning cupcake, but it was just average—nothing special. The pancakes were underwhelming too; I’ve had better at other places, despite all the hype in the reviews. The orange juice was supposed to be freshly squeezed, but I couldn’t tell if it actually was. It tasted overly sweet and artificial, more like something with added sugar than real juice. The one dish I did enjoy was the eggs Benedict—the thick-cut bacon made it really satisfying, and that plate was the highlight of my meal. Overall, it’s a place you could try, but you’re not missing out if you don’t. There are definitely better breakfast spots in the city.
Nitiphum S — Google review
Fruit flies fruit flies. if you close the does an turn the air conditioner on it will keep them dormant . Had breakfast here the day before, eggs a pancake were good enough so came back the next night for dinner. What a mistake. I had both specials massaged kale and couscous ok, the monkfish etouffee flavorless But the real reason for the review is the chicken breast with the cream jus. Cold dry chicken that was definitely a day old. Are waitress Joanna was the only bright spot of this place . Honest, polite, courteous It’s a shame she had to apologize for the food and the flies . Don’t fall for the FAKE Reviews

Highlight: ✨️Orange Almond French Toast✨️ One of the best flavored French toasts I've ever had! No reservations, walked up and were given a buzzer with 1.5 hour wait time. Told by staff to come back to area 45 min after receiving buzzer. We were ready and seated within 10 min of coming back (50-55 min total wait). Service was good. Food arrived after a short wait (we were very hungry so it felt longer than it was) All requests were accommodated quickly and food was well made.
Angel C — Google review
Yummy food! The Crousade was delicious and the Orange/Almond French toast hit the spot. I’m only knocking one star off because my friend’s latte was disappointing. Everything else was pretty great and would definitely recommend for a tasty breakfast spot.

Pleasant brunch spot in Cape May - we did wait almost an hour for a party of 2 on a Saturday morning (no reservations accepted for breakfast). The inside is airy and bright, feels like a boutique and very clean. The food was good, especially the corned beef hash. Worth trying if up for the wait.
Laurel C — Google review
Great food, great staff. Been coming here for years now and I'll keep coming back. Love the Croustade breakfast. Picture of the mango mimosa after a few sips. Try the MANmosa. ITS FANTASTIC!! If you're in Cape May, this place is a must.

The establishment prides itself on providing an enjoyable dining experience with a selection of delectable dishes. Tisha's also offers tasty side salads on both their lunch and dinner menus, such as the classic Cobb salad and the House Specialty salad with grilled or crispy chicken. Additionally, patrons can savor the simple yet delicious Kale Caesar salad during dinner service.
This restaurant deserves five stars all around! The service was great. The atmosphere is quaint. But the food is definitely spot on. Everything from the appetizers right through to the dessert was amazing. No complaints had by anyone at the dinner table, and we went with a big group. I would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a more luxurious meal.

We have been here multiple times over the past few years, and the food and service are always above and beyond. Danny has been our server the last two times we have been here and he remembered us and even where we sat the last time. We came today to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary while in Cape May. We are from Pittsburgh so we are only here once a year or so. We always make a point to stop here for dinner while vacationing in CM. The food is always delicious but the service is more so what keeps us coming back. I can’t speak highly enough about this restaurant. If you’re looking for fine dining while in Cape May, this is the place to go. Thank you, Tisha’s, for always making us feel special!

Came here for dinner for my cousins bachelorette weekend. Love a great BYOB and this place came highly reccomended. Service was great and food was phenomenal. Would definitely go back if I go back to that area. The calamari was EXCELLENT, burrito a peach salad was ok, the peaches weren't ripe so that was a little underwhelming. The Halibut that had on special was incredible, so fresh and cooked perfectly. The filet was delicious but the peppercorn(in my opinion) was a little too much to my liking. The seafood risotto was very flavorful and cooked perfectly as well. The gnocchi was great too.

This is a great option while walking or shopping at a famous Washington Street promenade in Cape May. We sat down in the back yard of the restaurant and it was great. Loved the food. Service was efficient and pretty quick. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Went off season for lunch. There was no wait and they were able to accommodate our stroller outside. (They had heaters so even though it was a little chilly we were super comfortable.) We shared a Cesar salad and my husband had the salmon po'boy. The fish was cooked perfectly. I had the scallops and risotto. It was a smaller portion, only 4 scallops, but I think it is technically an appetizer, and actually it was the perfect portion for me. The food was delicious and we enjoyed the people watching. Service was very attentive and not rushed at all.

Tisha’s is always reliable and delicious. We enjoyed the halibut and a Thai style chili salmon with shrimp. Beautiful setting, sitting outside, with exceptional service. Reservations recommended.
Kim K — Google review
Tisha’s offers fine quality meals and wine served in a cozy and friendly atmosphere. Dog friendly outside in back patio. I got the bolognese which was great.
Joseph A — Google review
Very romantic place for dinner. We had lobster bisque and it was excellent! My chicken pasqual was really good. My husband had the pork chop with apples and it was cooked to perfection. The gnocchi was terrible. Gummy and tough. Our server was ok, got the job done but no warmth at all. Overall it was a great dinner and we would go back.

Lucky Bones Backwater Grille is a popular family-friendly restaurant located in Cape May, known for its diverse menu featuring seafood dishes and casual comfort food. The restaurant offers a laid-back atmosphere and serves up mouthwatering classics such as burgers, ribs, and of course, seafood. It is owned by the same group behind the prestigious Washington Inn, ensuring quality food and a welcoming environment for families.
Lucky Bone is a wonderful, family-friendly spot. The mussels in red sauce were fresh and flavorful, and the menu has plenty of comfort foods that make you feel at home. Their mocktails are refreshing — we especially liked the one with mint. Service was excellent; our waiter was very helpful and friendly. We’ll definitely come back!

We went to try fish n chips but ended up ordering a pizza alongside. Fish n chips were okay, but surprisingly, the pizza turned out to be really good. It was a four cheese pizza with prosciutto on top. The texture was perfect, and the flavor was amazing. We weren't expecting a good pizza at all but thankfully, now we have found a good pizza spot in Cape May.

Tayrn was amazing ! We are visiting from out of town and had the best experience. The food is amazing. I have a very sensitive gluten celiac disease. They have a whole separate menu and bring out an orange napkin so everyone knows. Then you get your food on a separate orange plate. It’s so nice to be able to be safe and still have food that doesn’t compromise on taste. I wish places where I live did this. The pizza was gluten free and the flavor was amazing. The crust is perfect. So many amazing options. Huge wine menu. Fresh clams. It was great. Be sure to go for sure !

My family and I were down in Cape May for a long weekend for my wife's Bday. We decided to check out Lucky Bones for breakfast since they only do it on weekends, and we were only a short walk away. They had a few specials, all of them sounded good. I chose the Bacon and Bleu Omellete and it was perfect. My wife got the Eggs Benedict, which she also enjoyed. The coffee was very good and our server was very attentive. All in all, a great dining experience for our family. I'd definitely recommend this place for breakfast, I'm sure their lunch and dinner options are just as good as well.

VERY busy place! Decent wine selection. Fun drinks menu. Jenni was AWESOME! Incredibly nice and prompt with everything! Table bussers were also super efficient! That bread that they serve is out of this world! I tried the soup of the day which was split pea. It was very good. I also had the fish and chips. I loved the batter! The place was packed. I highly suggest reservations. Will definitely return.

Good food and great atmosphere. We stopped mid afternoon, and there was no wait. Summer salad, sea bass tacos, mussels, and calamari were amazing Also recommend the lobster bisque!! Take a sweater as it can be quite chilly

Lucky Bones will amaze you. As soon as you walk into this restaurant, you will notice a great full service Bar and a courteous hostess station. We were escorted to our table and were met by a friendly waitress ready to assist us explaining the food specials, the incredible beer offerings, wine and other liquid offerings. I am known by my friends for my true enjoyment of food and drink and my opinions are sincere. Lucky Bones will amaze you with their food and their service. The waitress suggested the mussels served in a San Marzano tomato based sauce with Gorgonzola cheese and shredded Basil. Gorgonzola and Mussels?????? Not sure of that, but the waitress assured me it was fabulous. I listen to food staff. I am glad that I do! It is one of the best dishes of Mussels I ever tasted. Although they have an impressive menu which includes fabulous seafood dishes such as Pompano and Cobia, somehow the fresh chopped clam white pizza pie sounded like a perfect accompaniment. Damn, was I pleased that I did. It was superb! You really cannot go wrong with any dish. The food and service was exemplary and we not could go home without another meal at Lucky Bones. The Mussels and the clam pizza pie are addictive. We were fortunate enough to meet the GM Jason DeWaters as he walked the rooms assuring all guests were satisfied. A great pleasure to meet him and he is just one more reason to travel 123 miles from home to enjoy another meal at Lucky Bones Backwater Grille. You will not be disappointed………..

Located adjacent to the renowned Congress Hall in Cape May, The Blue Pig Tavern is a long-standing establishment that offers a warm and rustic dining experience. Whether you choose to dine on the patio or in the cozy dining room of this 1800s hotel, you can enjoy updated American fare.
We had dinner at the Blue Pig Tavern during a recent stay in Cape May, and it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable meals of our trip. The restaurant is lively and welcoming, with a bit of a buzz in the air. It’s clearly a family friendly spot, which shows in the higher noise level and the number of tables filled with multigenerational groups. We chose to eat indoors, but many diners seemed to love the outdoor seating area as well. Even though the restaurant has plenty of tables, it’s a good idea to make a reservation. They do take walk ins, but the wait looked long by the time we arrived. Despite being very busy, the service was excellent from start to finish. The staff was attentive, friendly, and especially helpful when it came to answering questions about gluten free options and how certain dishes could be modified. I ordered the shrimp cocktail and the scallops, both prepared gluten free. The shrimp were fresh and well chilled, and the scallops were the standout of the night, tender, flavorful, and cooked just right. The rest of my family, who don’t have any dietary restrictions, were equally happy with their meals. One of the favorites was the lobster mac and cheese with added bacon, which came in a generous portion that made for great leftovers. My husband couldn’t stop talking about the mussels and the crab cakes, both of which he said were excellent. Dessert was another highlight. While the gluten free options are a little limited, the ice cream and sorbet are both very fresh and creamy. Everyone else at the table gravitated toward the apple pie à la mode, which was the favorite across the board. My youngest son had the flourless chocolate cake paired with a hazelnut gelato, and he absolutely loved it. The cocktails were just as well executed as the food. There was a small issue with the second drink my husband ordered, but the staff handled it gracefully and quickly. The fixed version came out perfect, and it was nice to see that kind of care taken in a busy setting. Overall, Blue Pig Tavern delivered a memorable dining experience for our whole family. The atmosphere is vibrant, the service is professional, and the food, especially the scallops, is worth the trip.

My partner and I enjoyed lovely dinner at The Big Blue Tavern located inside the beautiful Congress Hall Hotel. The rustic, old-school vibe gave it a cozy charm, and the location couldn’t be better- right in the heart of Cape May. We took advantage of their Restaurant Week deal ($50 per person) which was a solid value. The food was delicious. I started with the fried calamari, crispy and well-seasoned—followed by the chicken with mashed potatoes, which was tender and satisfying. My partner loved the steak and frites, cooked just right. The apple pie for dessert was a classic, sweet ending. Service was good friendly and efficientand the overall experience made it the best dinner of our Cape May trip.

My family and I stopped by the Blue Pig for an early dinner and had such a wonderful experience. We didn’t have a reservation and were a big party but they got us seated outside like we requested. It was so beautiful outside. The service was great. The parker rolls were excellent! We ordered a bunch of different entrees and they were all excellent! So happy we stopped by here and will be sure to come again next time.
Madina T — Google review
We stopped at the Blue Pig Tavern for dinner after having drinks and bang bang shrimp outside in the famous rocking chairs at Congress Hall. We decided to eat outside in order to enjoy the gorgeous September evening. The atmosphere was perfection. The food and service left a little bit to be desired. The place was not overly crowded, but our waitress was not very attentive, as we sat with empty water and glasses, waiting for our wine. Given the prices, I was hoping for a better experience.
Deborah S — Google review
Went here for lunch, got the steak frites, the turkey bacon avocado sandwhich and sangria. Steak frites was on the money, I wish I had a better picture but I ordered it medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. This steak could easily compete with a top rated steakhouse. The sandwhich was really good, fries were perfect, and the salad was good too. I cant say the same fornthe sangria, it wasn't for me but I did try it, it seemed to lack authenticity. Dropped in a few pieces of fruit and some red wine with a spritz of something from a bar soda gun (grenadine or maybe cranberry). Not horrible but not too good.

We had a fantastic dinner at The Blue Pig Tavern in Cape May and honestly can’t understand why this place isn’t rated higher. From the start, the fresh rolls and butter were out of this world, seriously some of the best we’ve had anywhere. We shared the lobster mac and cheese and calamari appetizers, and both were outstanding. The portions were generous, especially for a resort town, and the lobster mac was packed with meat, at least four full claws plus more throughout. For entrees, I had the gnocchi alla sorrentina (which was rich and perfectly cooked), my wife had the fish and chips (crispy and light), and our kids devoured the burger and mac and cheese off the kids’ menu. Every dish hit the mark, flavorful, fresh, and well-executed. On top of that, our server Laura was fantastic, friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. Highly recommend The Blue Pig, great food, great value, great service!

Attached to Congress Hall, this is a dining must when visiting or staying in Cape May. Much of their food is sourced from their other property, Beach Plum Farm, in West Cape May. We stopped in for lunch and were very impressed with both of our meals. The lobster roll was moist and delicious and the superfood bowl with salmon was also a great choice. They provide indoor or outdoor dining weather permitting.

We just arrived home from a week stay in Cape May. We had our breakfast at The Blue Pig five out of the seven days. The ice coffee is beyond perfection, each meal was delicious, along with great service. The female manger was so welcoming/happy, gifted my child a pig sticker each day and knew where we preferred to dine. Was very enjoyable and relaxing, we definitely will be back. My six year old who is a very picky eater enjoyed her variety of meals as well. The only restaurant who didn't clear my meal/drink when dinning as a solo parent with a small child. Thank you for the hospitality!!

The Washington Inn & Wine Bar is an elegant American restaurant located in a Victorian plantation house, offering a sophisticated dining experience. The menu features fresh seafood, locally-sourced produce, and inventive twists on traditional dishes. Guests can savor appetizers like chilled shrimp with tropical fruits or roasted mushroom soup, followed by main courses such as seafood cioppino and crab cakes. The restaurant's historic charm adds to the ambiance, with options to dine in the formal dining room or on the charming screened-in porch.
We had an 8:30 reservation and arrived a bit early. Right away, the host let us know we’d be seated closer to our reserved time and invited us to relax at a bar table. A bar waiter quickly took our drink order, and we were seated right on time. The hostess even mentioned they saved us a lovely window seat, which was such a thoughtful touch. Everything we ordered was fantastic—from the oysters Rockefeller to the crab cakes and cioppino. Service was attentive and warm throughout. A high-caliber dining experience in every way, absolutely worth a visit.

We recently dined at Washington Inn and were seated in the wine cellar, a small and cozy space with just three tables. It's a unique, intimate setting that some may find charming, though it might not be for everyone. If you're looking for a quiet, tucked-away experience, it's definitely a cool spot. Service was attentive and professional throughout the evening, which we appreciated. However, the food didn’t quite live up to the high expectations set by the atmosphere and price point. The crab cakes were a letdown, fried and packed with shredded lump meat, lacking the delicate texture and flavor you’d hope for, especially being down the shore. The rack of lamb, while cooked nicely, consisted of only four small lollipop chops and didn’t feel like a good value. On a brighter note, the flounder special was excellent, fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavor. Cocktails were also a highlight of the evening. Overall, Washington Inn has a nice ambiance and solid service, but for a more consistently satisfying dining experience in Cape May, I’d recommend Peter Shields instead.

Easily one of my top five dining experiences ever - better than some Michelin-starred restaurants I’ve enjoyed. Even their simple garden salad was extraordinary. Do not pass on the Mediterranean sea bass - the fish was perfectly prepared, and the salsa verde was one of the most complex, unctuous sauces I’ve ever had. The flavors of the sorbet were so concentrated and clear - I couldn’t stop eating them, especially the mango. The service was outstanding, and the price performance was excellent. This was a transcendent meal - can’t wait to come back.

Went here for the first dinner as a married couple after our wedding. No less than four wedding guests screamed and said “you’re gonna have a great time” when we told them where we were headed for dinner the following day. We did in fact, have a great time! The caviar is some of the best I’ve ever had and we were treated to the fabulous story of how the farmers met working at the Inn. It was a picturesque restaurant, absolutely incredible service and a memory I will treasure forever. Can’t wait to go back!

I have to give full credit to my besties hubby for planning all the reservations while we stayed in Cape May earlier this summer. We dined at Washington Inn on our first night & it was fantastic. Very elegant but never obnoxious. Highly recommend reservations. The food & service were beyond expectations. Huge dining areas & the staff were all so very kind. Located on a lovely street that begs to be walked after dinner. We loved every moment of this dining experience!

We had the most amazing time at the Inn wine bar with bartenders Robin and Justin. They gave us all of the local tips and made us feel like regulars, even though it was our first time. We’ve already taken them up on their recommendations and it’s made our stay in Cape May so special! We can’t wait to come back

Came here to celebrate my mother-in-law’s birthday and had a great experience. The food was delicious and the service was excellent — everything felt warm and welcoming. A lovely spot for a special occasion in Cape May!

Exceptional meal and superb drinks. The staff were so knowledgeable and friendly. We met a couple celebrating 40 years married and this is their top spot, says a lot about the food and the experience as they come back every year.

Restaurant
The Peter Shields Inn & Restaurant is a romantic dining spot housed in an elegant 1907 beachfront mansion, offering American cuisine with stunning views. Chef Carl Messick has opened Grana BYOB at the former Godmothers site, featuring a 68-seat restaurant serving modern American cuisine using seasonal ingredients.
An Incredible Stay in Cape May! We stayed here for one night and absolutely loved it. The house is located right on the ocean and only about a 20-minute walk from Washington Mall — the perfect balance of peacefulness and convenience to local restaurants, shops, and walking areas. Our Victorian-style room was cozy and charming, with a spacious, spotless bathroom fully stocked with everything we needed. The soft bathrobes were such a thoughtful touch. Since my husband and I are big fans of Victorian architecture, it was extra special for us to admire the beautiful details of the house inside and out. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming, and check-in was quick and easy. On our floor, there was a little lounge with coffee, tea, and light snacks, which was very convenient. The complimentary breakfast in the morning was a wonderful surprise — and for a small extra charge, you can even enjoy a mimosa 😊. Another huge plus: the beach is right across the street, and the property provides chairs and umbrellas free of charge. This made our stay even more relaxing. Overall, 5 out of 5! Perfect location, clean and comfortable rooms with everything you need, great service, and the unique charm of a Victorian home. We would definitely come back!

This place is stunning and as an experience, it’s a really cool restaurant to go to. It’s on the fancier side and just feels so exquisite. One of my favorite parts was the piano player and being able to send in song requests; such an unique experience! The food presentation was impressive, but overall the food was pretty good but not the best I have had. Service took awhile too, but they were attentive. Definitely a nice place to try!

My Husband and I had a lovely time staying at the Inn, It was just what we needed. It was relaxing and charming. The breakfast was nice, as we sat on the porch. We had dinner there as well in their cozy and romantic dining room. The cocktails were superb as was the dining experience. Gourmet at its finest in a very inviting (stay a while) candle lit environment. The Inn went all out with their fall decorations and we were greeted by butterflies in the beautiful garden upon arrival. The fire pit in the evening out front was a special touch while we sipped on our night cap. We hope to be able to come back one day again to experience the magic all over again. Peter Shields Inn and Cape May is truly a special place. So picturesque. A place to get away from it all for a spell. Sigh and Smile.

Peter Shields has a beautiful reputation, so we arrived with high expectations. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t fully live up. We waited quite a while to be greeted, and though our waitress was lovely, she was clearly juggling too much. The food was enjoyable and the evening pleasant, but Washington Inn still feels unmatched for warm, seamless hospitality in Cape May.

Another excellent dining experience as always! Loving the fall menu. Started with deliciously inventive cocktails and mocktails. For appetizers we had the colossal crab salad with HUGE pieces of crab, and a wonderful Caesar salad. We both had venison for our entrees, tender and cooked perfectly. The white chocolate bread pudding was a perfect ending to great meal. The staff consistently provide attentive and professional service adding to the atmosphere. The best place in Cape May! Thank you!

Peter Shields is the epitome of fine dining! The elegance is felt as soon as you walk up the outside stairs & continues all the way through as you enter. All the servers & staff were completely accommodating. My friends & I were in Cape May for a week long vacation in July & this had been on our radar since booking the trip. PS exceeded all our expectations, food & presentation were all spot on. TBH we had the most fun with the piano player, you could text him any & all of your requests & we happily waited for our song to come up, he was fantastic.

Our dinner at Peter Shields Inn was the best meal I've ever had. I have had plenty of good food before, but the composure of every dish here was beyond anything I've experienced. Each bite was the perfect balance of flavors and texture really making this dining experience stand above all my others. I would recommend this stop for anyone looking for an exquisite meal for any special occasion.

The food was delicious, our drinks were delicious and unique. 5/5 we can’t wait to come back.

Restaurant
George's Place Beachfront is a beloved eatery that has been serving American and Greek cuisine since 1968. With multiple locations in Cape May and one in Wildwood, it has become a landmark dining destination. The newer Ocean Street location offers indoor and outdoor seating as well as takeout options, while the original spot on Beach Avenue provides a charming cash-only, BYOB experience.
This place is a hidden gem for breakfast. I don’t think many people know about it. I found it searching Google for places near my hotel room. There was no wait at all which I was surprised since it’s a Saturday morning in July and the place is really small. My husband and I both enjoyed our food. I like the breakfast options. Only negative was the coffee was very watered down. Not sure if I got a bad batch or if they always make their coffee this way. I would definitely come back!

We love it here! Great value for money, great food. We've sampled both breakfast and lunch, both are great! Breakfast has standard offerring and some more creative items (limoncello French toast). Lunch brings out more of a Mediterranean flavor. The Gyro is flavorful and hearty for example. Everything well seasoned, nothing bland, portions not stingy, service is pleasant. Cash only I believe. Someone mentioned its a hidden gem and I agree, its unassuming. Actually quite refreshing in comparison to other cape may restaurants.

I visited Cape May this weekend for the first time since my Coast Guard graduation in 2022 and decided to have breakfast at George’s Place with my wife. Unfortunately, the experience reminded me that racism still exists, even in places that promote hospitality. From the moment we sat down, the only interaction we had with our waiter and waitress was to order, receive the food, and pay the bill. They never checked if everything was okay, never offered refills, and completely ignored us the entire time. Meanwhile, every other table around us, filled with white customers, received attentive and friendly service. When I finally asked for more coffee, the waiter (with an Italian accent or similar) brought it with a bad attitude, spilled some, and didn’t bother to clean it. After paying, I chose not to leave a tip because of the poor treatment, and the same waiter (Italian accent) followed me outside, confronting me and saying it was “disrespectful” not to tip, even though his service was clearly intentional and unprofessional. The food itself was great, but the service was by far the worst I’ve ever experienced. Being followed outside over a tip after being ignored during the meal was unacceptable. It’s sad that in 2025, this kind of behavior still happens. To my fellow Coasties and anyone who values respect, think twice before supporting a place that treats people differently based on how they look or speak. Racism is real. Thank you to the male waiter (with an Italian accent) for reminding me of that today, October 25, 2025, between 10:45 a.m. and 11:50 a.m.

Small little breakfast spot Cape May that you won't regret going to. We normally go to Uncle Bill's, but I wanted to try something new on this place did not disappoint. Everything we had was a great spin on breakfast, as well has having the classics.

We have had dinner here several times in the past and it was excellent. Today I was the first time for breakfast and it was great- beautiful luxury teas, high end jam and a generously portioned Norwegian Smoked Salmon platter. It felt like breakfast and lunch combined - served with a toasted bagel over a generous bed of greens and the best olive oil I have ever tasted. This is not a diner in the traditional sense with an all day menu. I consider it a restaurant open for three different meal times, each with their own upscale menu.
Dolores P — Google review
We love all the George’s places haven’t hit wildwood yet but we will. You can count on the consistency throughout the different spots. I always get the gyro it was just as good here as the other spots the platter. Ones with a healthy portion of potatoes like a fries chip but they are delicious either way we love them it also comes with a side of salad also a healthy portion. The management knows how to train everyone and are able to transfer the experience throughout their restaurants which I appreciate. My wife gets the salmon scramble which she loves love loves it’s a great deal. Plus they serve breakfast till like 2pm making it perfect for a breakfast person like my wife and s lunch person like myself. If you are wondering it’s definitely worth going. The one on the beach offers views of beach street which at the time we were there had the starlings murmurations flying in and out great beach diner atmosphere court.

Located in Cape May, New Jersey, the Rusty Nail is a vibrant hangout spot featuring a rustic bar, deck, and fire pit. This lively establishment offers a menu of American cuisine and creative cocktails. One of its highlights is Chef Jimmy's Fried Chicken, which pays homage to his mother's famous recipe. On Mother's Day, guests can savor this beloved dish along with classic sides like mac-and-cheese, collard greens, and cornbread.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Rusty Nail, and I was genuinely impressed with the entire experience. The food was absolutely delicious—each dish was flavorful, fresh, and clearly made with care. Whether you’re in the mood for something hearty or light, there’s something on the menu for everyone. The service was equally impressive. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcome and comfortable. They were attentive without being overbearing, and always ready to answer questions or offer recommendations. It’s clear they care about their guests and take pride in what they do. The atmosphere of the restaurant was wonderful. It has a cozy yet lively vibe that makes it perfect for both a casual night out or a special occasion. Whether you’re going with friends, family, or on a date, you’ll feel right at home. Overall, Rusty Nail delivered on all fronts—great food, excellent service, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. 5-Star Vibes at Rusty Nail’s Beach Shack! We had a fantastic time at Rusty Nail’s Beach Shack tonight! We walked in with no reservation and were seated immediately—huge bonus! We chose to dine outside in the beach area, and the atmosphere was absolutely beautiful. The ocean breeze, the lights, the sand—it felt like a little getaway. Our server was new and working solo during training, and while he was friendly and eager to help, the only suggestion we’d make is to check in a bit sooner after meals arrive—just to make sure everything’s good! We also didn’t realize we had to hand the check back to him (we thought we paid up front), which caused a bit of confusion. Next time, a quick heads-up would be helpful. But overall, he did great and held it down under pressure! Great food, amazing vibe, and a memorable night. We’ll definitely be back! 🌅🍴🦀

My husband and I always enjoyed stopping here for drinks when we come into this town. We love having a beer and putting our feet in the sand. Today we decided to try their food. It was very good. We had the little necks, sorry no picture. They were delicious. My husband had the flounder sandwich and I had the pulled pork sandwich with the coleslaw. The food and service were very good. We did decide to have one more drink by the fire pit and some live music. Very nice.

It's such a fun place for drinks or dining. They have a great outside spot with plenty of seating. The inside even has large doors for fresh air. The veggie item I tried was the grilled tofu tacos. They substituted guacamole for me.

Fresh, Flavorful, and Veggie-Loving! The owner is friendly and the food is prepared quickly, fresh and served hot or delivered hot and timely.” The pizzas here taste like they were just pulled from the oven—crispy crust, bright sauce, and fresh toppings. As a veggie lover, I was delighted by their garden-fresh options. A solid 4.5 out of 5!

Visiting Cape May for a week and struggling to find good pizza. Walked past Mario's on our way to the Acme and decided to give it a try. Just average food. I ordered the plain cheese pizza. The crust was good, the tomato sauce had little to no flavor and the cheese was just melted not toasted or browned. Pizza is average. My partner ordered the Spaghetti Marinara, again just average. The pasta was a mix of spaghetti and linguine, like the leftover pasta. The sauce had little flavor, and the bread and salad were just ok. Overall, just average Italian food.

The YB is a charming, petite restaurant located on Beach Ave, just a few blocks from The Queen Victoria. It offers contemporary American cuisine with influences from Asian and Mediterranean flavors. Opened in 2011 by Yianni Tsiartsionis, the restaurant is known for its delicious food and interesting presentation. As a BYOB establishment, guests can bring their own wine or beer to enjoy with their meal.
Loved this place The decor and music set the tone. Steve did a great job. The compliments to the staff and the chef. The concept of Amuse bouche is a lost art. The presentation is amazing, the goat cheese ravioli is delicious as well as the fried tomatoes as the app. For us this was a great find...THANK YOU !
Leo C — Google review
All the way down at the bottom of New Jersey, on a road called Beach Avenue, is a restaurant which somehow manages to block out all of the amazing light and splendor of the beach. Sure, if you’re in New York City and going for a night out, I guess I understand why a dark and mysterious lounge feel would be appropriate. But, why have a restaurant right on the beach and then quite literally pull black shades across the view? Perhaps you get bored of looking out at the beach and the crashing waves when you live in this area but I would imagine most of the diners are visiting from out of town and are craving any additional time gazing at the ocean. Certainly something I will never understand. Our party of 6 had been sold in the reviews on what was apparently a delectable lobster roll, but given the restaurant is recently under new management the roll wasn't on the menu. That said, the food we did end up ordering was all artfully presented and amazingly tasty. The new owners share duties of waiting tables and chef-de-cuisine and are very pleasant. Our waiter, Michael, was attentive, knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humor. We ordered a mix of appetizers which were all quite tasty but somewhat dainty. Tuna Poke Credo had absolutely beautiful cubes of tuna, and with about 6 we each got to taste one teeny tiny bite. So much room on the plate for more! Swordfish Crostini was tasty with an addition of mango if I recall which amped up the flavor. Lastly, the duck wings were both tasty and meaty and, since they're stacked on top of each other, you are able to play a quick round of Jenga before consuming. Highly recommended (both the wings and the Jenga). Entrées were artfully plated and delicious, however certainly on the expensive side. The crabcakes were among the most expensive dinner options and came with two rather large hockey pucks of fantasticness which were gluten-free and packed full of crab and were absolutely exquisite. Barramundi was lacking sufficient seasoning and sauce for our taste, and the texture for someone not familiar with barramundi was not what we had expected. Certainly not flaky, but also not dense like a Mahi Mahi - sort of in between. One comment for the chef - most of the entrées came with some sort of bean sprout shoot which neither added complementary flavor nor much in terms of decoration. I found it rather amusing that after we all essentially had licked our plates clean each plate still had one or two bean sprouts remaining. Perhaps a sprig of parsley would be more welcome and prettier and tastier too. Forgot to mention - this is a BYOB establishment and they’re happy to provide nice glasses as well as ice as needed. After dinner, unfortunately when we were there they were out of any gluten-free dessert options so we were unable to give them a shot, but for you gluten eaters the options seemed somewhat abbreviated but sounded potentially tasty. Overall, would recommend in terms of food, but still rather surprised at the lack of scenery given the location.
Kristian O — Google review
The food was absolutely fantastic. It was creative, well-executed, and full of flavor. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The service was painfully slow and disorganized, and the overall experience was frustrating from start to finish. The owner left in the middle of dinner service and told the server to lock up for him, which felt completely unprofessional and left the staff scrambling. It's clear the kitchen has talent, but the front-of-house management is a mess. As much as I’d love to recommend it based on the food alone, I simply can’t. Great food doesn’t make up for a dreadful overall experience.

Opened for brunch from 9am to 1pm. We came at around 11am. Let me start by saying they had me at Lobster and then on top of that it is BYOB!!! 🤯🤯😅😅 It is a small cozy place, French decor theme to go along with the music, right in front of the beach, owned by Greeks, which should tell you how good the food is.

They really limited the seating which made us feel comfortable eating there during these crazy times. Started with a Greek salad and the tuna tacos. Both were good but we weren’t overly impressed. The halibut special was tasty and a nice portion was provided with the Israeli couscous. The duck was cooked really well at a perfect medium rare. The sauce though....so so sweet. Made the dish a bit out of balance. Service was really good. He was definitely friendly and attentive. I’d go back for sure but there were a few misses which is why I couldn’t quite give it a 5.

The Chalfonte Hotel, established in 1876, is a charming Victorian-era hotel known for its warm Southern hospitality. The historic hotel offers unassuming rooms and suites free from modern distractions like clocks, televisions, and telephones to provide a relaxing escape. In 2021, the hotel installed individualized heating and cooling units in every guest room for climate control.
We stayed off season in the Southern Quarters. Room had everything we needed for a long weekend but would have needed a little more space for a whole week stay. Very nice bathroom. Walking distance from restaurants and bars or a shorter drive if weather isn't great.

Stayed many times and always feel welcome and cared for. The vibe, hospitality, that fried chicken! The porch, the Howard Street ramble, the umbrellas! The chalfonte is the most Cape May iconic stay you can experience. As Cape May as it gets.

We could not have been happier with the wedding reception at the Chalfonte Hotel. It was a dream come true for our daughter and son-in-law. The food was fabulous, the Magnolia Room was so elegant and the exterior of the hotel was the perfect meeting spot for the families to hang out and enjoy the graceful Victorian wrap-around porch. Furthermore, the highest accolade we can attribute to the Chalfonte was the staff! Guest after guest complemented both of us with the efficiency, friendliness, and attentiveness of the entire staff. Ellie coordinated every last detail, responded quickly & enthusiastically to every question and alleviated all of our concerns (namely, the dance floor was plenty large enough for our huge, dancing family!) Since we were from out of town, Ellie provided us a list of great local vendors. Her assistance throughout the year leading up to the wedding date was so valuable . The day of the wedding, Kaylie and the staff kept the party humming - water glasses were filled rapidly, meals served timely and with abundant smiles! This is a direct reflection of the management and leadership at this hotel! We would recommend the Chalfonte for a wedding reception, a party or just an enjoyable brunch. Thank you for exceeding our expectations!

Irene L — Google review
My family first vacationed at The Chalfonte in 1956, and returned every year for many years to follow. I worked at the hotel in the late 60s and early 70s as the night watchman, and my sister worked there from the 60s into the 90s, back when it was owned by the Satterfield family, and later by Anne LeDuc and Judy Bartella. Words can’t easily describe how magical this establishment is, and how grateful I am that the Mullock family, the current owners, have kept the history and spirit of the hotel intact as they gently nudged it into the twenty-first century on its way to its 150th year of continuous operation. When I worked at the hotel, there were no keys provided for the rooms. There was no air conditioning, but the sea breezes kept the sparsely-furnished rooms cool night and day. The rooms had gorgeous marble-topped Victorian furniture (many still do), a jute rug on the floor, sagging beds, and not much else. But that was all we needed since the point of being in Cape May was to get to the beach. Guests returned year after year, so each summer was like a family reunion. Few rooms had a private bath, so guests congregated outside the bathrooms on the hall after a day at the beach, and made the best of it by turning it into an impromptu cocktail party while awaiting their turn in one of the several showers available on each floor. The Mullocks have worked their incredible magic by providing air conditioning throughout, as well as private baths in most guest bedrooms. The furniture and fixtures are a delightful mix of old and new. The food was, and is, one of the highlights of the experience. There’s a great bar, The King Edward, off the lobby, usually with terrific live music. The hotel is famous in town for the live music that is performed by a variety of bands on the front porch on Thursday nights. You won’t find many amenities that typically exist in seaside resort hotels. There are no TVs or coffee makers in the rooms (both are available in a lounge off the lobby). There are no elevators. It’s like staying in a museum of seashore history from almost 150 years ago. For those who find it hard to unplug, WiFi is available throughout the hotel. If you want accommodations in a bland, hermetically-sealed room that feels like every Holiday Inn you’ve ever stayed in, you should look elsewhere. If you want to experience a charming bit of what Cape May was like in the nineteenth century, The Chalfonte is the place for you.

Established in 1876, the historic Chalfonte Hotel is recognized as the oldest original hotel in Cape May, America's first seaside resort. Located just two blocks from the beach and steps from the heart of town, The Chalfonte offers a unique seashore experience defined by warm, Southern-style hospitality.
