The new chef offers up a delicious combination of traditional roast with a twist. The deluxe roast pork has perfectly cooked meat, topped with a crispy crackling. Accompanied by home-made apple puree, a huge piece of crispy puffed crackling, and a unique and flavoursome take on stuffing. The gravy is so good, you're likely to drink it out of the jug, and the Yorkshire pudding is exactly as it should be - fluffy inside with a crispy bite. Vegetables include a big roasted carrot, crispy cavolo nero, roasted baby leeks and mange tout with the obligatory roast potatoes (herby and definitely cooked with some sort of meat fat). The Lion & Lobster is reputably one of the oldest pubs in Brighton, with an interesting history. Google it! Full of character, it's a tardis with snug booths to discover, a downstairs proper pub, 1st floor restaurant and up another floor, a sunny roof terrace. On top of all of that, it's a stone's throw from the beach, it's ideal for walking off the generous roast.

Just had the most amazing roast at The Lion and Lobster! First off, the pub itself is gorgeous - spread over multiple floors with plenty of character. You can eat in both the pub and the restaurant area. The pub has that cosy, traditional vibe with great décor, while the restaurant feels a little more formal but still warm and inviting. There’s even an outdoor terrace. It’s actually a huge venue, but it never feels overcrowded. The service was spot on: super friendly and impressively fast, especially given how busy it was. We had one chicken roast, one beef roast, plus a cauliflower cheese on the side, and everything was exceptional. I’m a big roast fan and have tried plenty, but this was easily one of the best I’ve had. I’d go back in a heartbeat. Everyone who served us was genuinely lovely, which made the whole experience even better. We paid £78 for two roasts, one side, four beers, and the service charge - which I think was excellent value for the quality. 🌟

Absolutely amazing yummy food and a great pub. Brilliant deco, hidden garden and great atmosphere plus the staff are brilliant. I have eaten the steak and that was very delicious not chewy at all and a perfect medium rare steak just how I ordered, very impressed. The cauliflower starter is explosive in your mouth, flavours are amazing. Also I would highly recommend the Sunday roast. Potatoes were spot on, fluffy in the middle but crunchy on the outside. Great flavours and textures very well put together and like art on your plate. Great pub / restaurant

I visited the Lion & Lobster yesterday after hearing the chefs from The New Club, which was renowned for its Sunday roasts, had moved into their kitchen. The welcome was lovely, the staff were genuinely friendly and attentive, and the pub itself had a warm and cosy atmosphere. I really wanted to enjoy it, but unfortunately the food was a huge letdown. For over £70 for two roasts and a drink, I expected something memorable. Instead, what arrived felt very underwhelming. The roast potatoes, just three on the plate, were hard, chewy, and unpleasant enough that I left them untouched. The Yorkshire pudding was so overcooked it simply tasted like burnt toast. The vegetables were fine but tepid, as if they had been sitting around for too long, and the meat, which did have good flavour, was only lukewarm at best. I do not usually complain, especially in hospitality, but this felt like very poor value for money and a real disappointment given the reputation behind it. The service and atmosphere were spot on, but the food, which should be the main event, left me feeling ripped off. Sadly, I will not be returning. UPDATE: After leaving an honest review about a disappointing meal here, I was shocked by what happened next. One of the chefs went as far as to track down my partner online and add her on social media completely inappropriate and crossing a line. When I went in to address this directly, instead of professionalism I was met with a false explanation and the matter was brushed off. There was no manager available, so I’ve reported the incident to the police and now hold a crime reference number in case of any further contact. It’s a shame, because the pub itself has a good atmosphere and the front of house staff were initially welcoming. But after this experience, I cannot recommend the Lion & Lobster, and I feel others should be aware of how poorly the situation was handled.

The best roast dinner. The stuffing was delicious and over the dinner was very tasty and it came with a Yorkshire. The pub has a great atmosphere and friendly staff. Will be back. Not forgetting the good range of beverages and Harveys Sussex Best Beer.

What a gem of a pub, we’d booked a house opposite through booking.com and popped in for a drink while waiting to check in. We ordered some lunch and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. Bar staff very friendly and helpful. After a full day walking on Saturday we decided to keep it local and popped to our ‘local’ for dinner. We sat in the restaurant.. this place is like a tardis! The food was lovely and the service was great, there was no rush so we could enjoy our wine and chat. The pub has a lovely atmosphere a real mix of ages would highly recommend this place. Well done to the chef and all the staff .

20th July 2025 £55 for two The early months of Mich’s pregnancy have been beset by seemingly most of the possible negative side-effects - most prominently daily morning sickness well beyond the point where people helpfully keep reminding her it should have stopped by now - and, barring one urgent request for a strawberry Yazoo, very few of the fun cravings some women experience. So when one Sunday she woke with a happy lack of nausea and a desire for big fat burgers we decided to make the most of it and head into town. This newfound feeling of normalcy basically extended to wanting to not be in the bathroom with her head down a toilet for as long as possible and also to eat as much as she could, so first we wandered along the seafront to peruse the crossword over a coffee and a ginormous slice of banana bread and possibly the jammiest doughnut (perhaps even too much jam?!) at Fika. This is important context. As the decision to burger had been made early in the day, and as Mich was having such a nice time, and as that slice of banana bread was enough to satiate her for pretty much an entire afternoon, I had a lot of time to mentally conceive of - and build, and tweak over several dozen phases of interactive design: from raw red onion rings to cubed and caramelised white and back again - my perfect burger. After one too many “are you hungry yet?”s we agreed to independently research and then come back together to discuss potential venues. Top of the list was a place called 7Bone, pretty much because the main picture on their website matched most closely my own design: two smashed patties, with melted cheese seeping into its gaps, in one of those milky-floury non-brioche buns. (Mich wanted a chicken burger, and they did those too). Also raising an eyebrow was the fact that “ooh, Red Dog are in the Mesmerist now”, so we stopped off for a look at their menu en route, and had reliable old Honest Burgers nearby as a Plan C too. It wasn’t right at 7Bone at all and I think we knew it from the off. Not that that stopped us from asking for a table a few minutes after we’d dismissed the waiter once with a “we’re just having a look at the menu”, despite by that point in the day knowing it almost off by heart. But for some reason the in-jokey names felt more egregious in the flesh (“iaia(i)n with three eyes”, “peter green”, “all right all right all right”), and coupled with the option only to order via an app and the too-loud AI-sounding ‘music’ over the speakers, we decided to leave. So to the Mesmerist. Turns out Red Dog can be just as creative with its burgers while managing to come up with names that don’t make you feel like a teenage girl at her first big-school sleepover with a bunch of friends who all knew each other from primary, but really I just wanted a really good cheeseburger, so I didn’t really pay them much attention. I asked for a double, and Mich got a messy spicy cheesy slawy juicy fried chicken thigh thing, with obligatory buffalo wings and chips to share on the side too. Did they satisfy our cravings? Mich was just really happy to be able to eat something like that again for the first time in ages, and given she normally uses a knife and fork for her burgers like a weirdo anyway it didn’t really matter that her bun disintegrated under duress of all the liquid seeping into it. A little sickly by the end perhaps, but hit the spot. Mine did, but only just about. It’s really difficult, if burgers are your thing, to serve a terrible one, but this wasn’t exactly special: as you can see from the picture the buns were the cheap claggy type, which meant that them forgetting my second patty, throwing the ratios all off, had more of an impact than it might otherwise have done. The flavour on the wings was fine but they looked like they’d come from the chicks who got picked last in PE; the chips (and smoked chipotle mayo) were excellent. Overall fine, but nothing to write home about. Unless you’re me, and analysing average food in minute detail is for some reason your thing.

I hosted my partner’s 30th birthday at The Mesmerist in one of their private rooms, and overall, we had a fantastic experience. The staff were incredibly helpful in the lead-up to the event and made the setup on the day so easy. We were even able to access the room early, which gave us plenty of time to decorate and get everything perfect. The team working behind our private bar were absolutely amazing – so friendly and welcoming, which really added to the atmosphere of the night. There was a small issue with pouring pints at our bar, so we had to purchase those from another bar in the venue, but honestly, it didn’t impact the evening in any significant way. The only slight hiccup was with the music. The volume was a bit low at first, and later in the night, there were a few moments where it cut out. While it wasn’t a major problem, it would have been great if everything had run smoothly. One thing I really appreciated was how flexible the team were after the event. We were given plenty of time to take down our decorations and even allowed to collect them a few days later, which was such a big help. All of our guests had a wonderful time and many commented on how great the space was. I’d definitely consider hosting another event here in the future. Huge thanks to everyone at The Mesmerist for helping make the night so special!

The food was amazing, everything we ordered tasted great. The burnt end nuggets, nachos, and the giant onion rings were definite highlights. But the organisation wasn’t great, so it’s not the best spot for big groups. Our table wasn’t ready when we arrived, we had to move some seats/tables ourselves, they only took half the table’s drink order, they brought out too many of items and were missing a meal (however they did offer a free drink for the missing meal). It’s also a pretty loud place, so probably better for smaller groups or couples. The food is pricey, but the portions are huge, wish that was mentioned on the menu because we would’ve ordered less if we knew!

Went today as found out Red Dog Saloon operates out of here and it didn't disappoint!! Firstly the staff were attentive as soon as we walked through the door, I love a warm welcome. The food was just as good as their london uncles!! I went for my fav (Cronos) and was loved every bite. Recommend this pub for good food and a welcoming environment. (And the background music wasn't bad either!!!)

Me and my boyfriend came here on probably the last summers day of 2025 and what a wonderful place it is! We sat in the upstairs roof Top area and it was absolutely wonderful, the drinks were fabulous and very well priced and we loved seeing the beautiful art and flowers around the place! Will definitely be coming back throughout 2026 <3

Went on a Sunday. Just after midday. The gent behind the bar was a bit blunt. Tried to make conversation with him while ordering food and got little to no response. I ordered the cheese burger, while it came out quickly. It actually was cold and a little to pink for me. And for the price surprised it didn’t come with chips. Has a lot of potential! Just a bit of attention to detail and staff who are customer facing! putting my review up to 3 starts due to the nice reply from management

Came in at lunchtime and had the cheeseburger and onion rings. Very tasty and cooked perfectly. Customer service was excellent and staff friendly and welcoming. Good location and prices reasonable considering quality and compared to nearby eateries. Would highly recommend.

Had the best evening at the cocktail and food pairing night, superb value, gorgeous tasty dishes and perfectly paired cocktails. Such good service, staff were attentive and friendly. Perfect night. My only minor complaint and it’s not really a complaint at all, was the portions were a little big and the last cocktail was a long one but we were too full to finish it. Couldn’t manage to finish most courses, despite how delicious they were

Cute place definitely great for larger groups. Our server was lovely absolutely no complaints about her! Will say though I doubt I’ll be returning due to the wait times and the actual quality of food. It was about 50 minutes of a wait for the food to come out, and the halloumi burger at that point didn’t feel soft but instead rubbery and cold; this too was the case with the chicken in the caesar salad which was dry. My parents also ordered sticky toffee pudding but that also took a while to come out and was more of a dry cake consistency rather than soft and warm how it is meant to be. Regardless, the service was great and the atmosphere was homely too!

Huge space, set over multiple floors, with a roof garden up top, and the diner up on the first floor, although not so well signed. Good standard food, well presented, and the staff are friendly enough.

The cocktail and food pairing evening was flawless—creative drinks, delicious dishes, and spot-on pairings. The ambiance was beautiful and the service exceptional. Truly one of the best dining nights I’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend! Our waitress Poppy was absolutely brilliant, so attentive and helpful!

Had a lovely girls night at the cocktail pairing night in the carpenters cocktail lounge. Cocktails were delicious, food was amazing, and our server Poppy was very attentive. 10/10 highly recommend ✨

We all went for roasts, the meets excellence. Some if the accompaniments could have been better - not bad, just not five star worthy. Biggest issue was time for food to arrive.

Oh my, the food at The Walrus was AMAZING. We all had a Monday roast, there was a half lemon &thyme chicken, roast pork belly, and a trio roast which had the chicken, pork and a thick tender slice of beef. We thought it might be quiet being a Monday but was surprised by how busy it was at 6.30pm Beer was good too Definitely recommend

Great terrace great place fantastic to enjoy an experience by the seafront. They offer a good quality of concerts an music. It's sheltered from the wind. It's one of my favorite places. Very good music and nature atmosphere. I do not recommend the food. The toilets leave much to be desired in terms of cleanliness.

Woderful experience to be here! We visited this seaside pub with splendid views in May. The staff was friendly and professional. The customers were not only tourists but also included many locals. They were playing board games, or all together enjoying Pimm's, etc., etc. each truly seemed they're enjoying their own moment. It felt wonderful to be part of that atmosphere, and our time here was truly splendid.

My favourite go to place in Brighton - opposite the sea front. Visited Brighton for the weekend with three friends and we had an absolute scream! The atmosphere here on a Friday night is electric, not moody, very cheerful. I cannot wait to return to Brighton and head here again. Fab place!

Ordered a pizza was told 10 mins , 25 minutes later we went and investigated where it was - they had burnt the pizza and thought to not tell us this whilst cooking a new one. New one turned up slightly under cooked. Pints were fairly priced

I loved this place! Like an old ship inside, Cute wood windows that look upstairs to the sea. The heat of the sun basking through on a wild windy afternoon. A guy called Lawrence was friendly that was working that day, had time to chat, which was lovely for me. Also got some super cool things to look at regarding the sea! The pizza was nice and was a busy with people.

We absolutely love The Cricketers! It’s our go-to spot whenever we are in Brighton for drinks. The atmosphere is always lively and full of energy, with a great crowd every time. We especially enjoy sitting outside, soaking up the buzz of the city, and relaxing with a drink after a day at the beach. It’s such a welcoming place, and we know we’ll keep coming back again and again.

We were in Brighton for the night and just stumbled upon this pub, and what a great find it was 🙂 Lovely good old fashioned British pub. Lovely seating with good beer and wine selection. We decided to eat and each had a roast and it was gorgeous. Can totally recommend a visit here and we’ll go back the next time we’re there.

What a fantastic night yesterday!! Incredible atmosphere at the Courtyard Bar with the live music band. They played all the rock/pop hits, including Oasis songs and finished with my favourite song ever, “Mr. Brightside”! ❤️I had the absolute time of my life. Beautiful music, completely rammed (especially on the 2nd set from midnight!) with a joyous and super friendly audience. So glad I stumbled in here!! Good beer, great audience and a super tight band. If you’re looking to dance on live music in Central Brighton, look no further!! 😎 🎸

We had booked the greene room for the 5/11. For around 30 quests.Rob and his team were incredible, special shout out too the lads behind the bar! We had ordered and paid for set B buffet menu, which everyone was so happy with the food. The venue was beautful & we are very happy of what a wonderful evening it was. Only thing I would say is there was a small communication error, but it was easily rectified with showing recepits. (If you prepay, please keep hold of your recepits, because as humans errors can happen!). Rob, and your team. Thank you for making the day special with your kindness and relaxed approach 🥰

good food- bar snacks and all! had chips and coke, some drinks as well. chips were crispy and big, portions were huge!! have mayo as well rlly nice. flowers at the entrance, looks really beautiful and classy! there were a few drunkards around but hey it’s a pub right? not rlly lively but recommend!!

Stopped here during a stroll in The Lanes. Really good tasty lunch, and reasonable cost. Good selection of beers, these were quite expensive in comparison to the food. All that said, great atmosphere, friendly staff.

By far and away our most favourite pub in Brighton. A gem hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the city. A Fuller's pub so always has a great offer served by welcoming professional staff. The food is excellent with numerous specials written above the bar. Table bookings are advisable especially on weekends. Don't forget to check out various tin boxes attached to the walls. You might discover a hidden message or, better still, leave one for others to find.

Absolutely LOVE this pub. The smell of beautiful food that hits you a you walk in is divine. So much that even though we'd just had a light lunch we ordered more! Great wine. Dogs allowed!! Make sure you open the boxes on the walls to read all the messages left from visitors! Great food. Great staff. Great ambience.

A great pub that's off the main track, frequented by locals. There's always a lovely cosy yet vibrant atmosphere and if you can grab a seat, you're lucky as this place is always busy. You can easily while away your afternoon by chatting to the locals, the bar staff or by opening the vintage tins on the walls and reading the handwritten notes inside them. If none of this takes your fancy, order a Sunday roast and you won't be disappointed. There's is one of the best roasts I've had in a long time with a lovely Yorkshire, range of vegetables and delicious gravy. I would highly recommend you try it!

Proper pub! Busy. Wicked signage all over the walls and the menu was diverse, took me so long to decide what to get. I will definitely be back, great bar staff and a great night. The pie I had was delicious!

Disappointed after hearing good things about the food but perhaps it was an off day - the fish dish was dry, boney, no flavour and also weird presentation (see pics) however I will try again, perhaps the pies or battered fish which I’ve heard are very good. Great vibes tho, community feel, staff great.

Great little pub! One of the last surviving "old school" types of pub, remaining relatively unchanged for 50 years! Superb selection of beers - Fuller's and real ale, huge selection of gins and other spirits. Very good Sunday lunch menu, several specials and staple favourites. Fish and chips is excellent and the portions are very generous and well worth the cost. Seating in the dining area of the pub is in high demand and should be booked well in advance, but if it's possible to sit at another table elsewhere in the pub, food can be eaten there. Also some tables outside on the quiet side street. Because it's such a little pub, it doesn't take much to be crowded, but the atmosphere is great. Definitely a top favourite of mine in Brighton!

Very busy, at 6pm ordered fish and chips, was possibly the best fish I've ever had, the two barmaids, were exceptional, very welcoming and exceedingly professional, it was our pleasure to have been hosted by them. We will definitely return on our next visit.

Regular pub with great selection of beer. Food (mains) is priced on higher side - almost London City level prices for Brighton. Good part though is that the food was delicious. So no complaints!

Didn't eat so can't comment on the food. Good pub near the railway station with decent choice of beer. Has a roof terrace that is very popular.

AVOID. £19 for a pint and mini prosecco. I’m a Brightonian and genuinely shocked at that. So many better places around town. Seriously, 2 minutes walk to several pubs offering much better value.

Not enough beer options, no porter, no stout. Corn fritters were not to the standard the price would suggest. The chicken burger was not a burger, it was more like a chicken sandwich so, it was all style really. The pie was also chicken and a little disappointing too. The place looks nice and interesting, the service was ok and it's very easy to get to from the station. Kid friendly during the day, but no high chairs or kids menu.

A really lovely pub, me and my girlfriend just sat for a drink and quick bite to eat before leaving Brighton and loved it. The bartenders were wonderful, and the food tasted great! The aesthetic is also very cute, I loved the decorations ❤️ I enjoyed our little break here very much and would definitely stop by again if I return to Brighton.

Lovely pub located just off Brighton station. The staff are lovely and the food was good. Only issue is their food menu doesn't completely match with their website menu. That aside it's a great place to meet up with friends and enjoy a beverage

Have nothing negative to say about The Grand Central, Brighton. The staff always make an effort to be friendly and courteous. The food ( have only had the vegan burger, twice) was excellent and the atmosphere is welcoming and fun. Reasonably priced and a good location... As I said, no complaints. Happy to recommend. Will be going back again, I'm sure.

Great little pub with loads of games to play, perfect for a fun night out. The pizza’s really good too! Definitely try the Werther’s Original shots, they make them themselves and they’re absolutely banging.

Lovely pub with a really warm and friendly atmosphere. Staff are welcoming, and the best part is you can bring your dog along too. Great spot to relax and feel at home.

the barman tonight was very charming and overall i’d say he is on a positive upwards trajectory in his service career. he said his name was clark but obviously that must be a pseudonym. i don’t recommend the “hobnotto” he was trying to sell to us which comprised a small glass of homemade stout with a hobnob biscuit in it. it was vile. nonetheless, best pub in the universe.

My Uncle John Easton used to run this pub years ago he was a Stunt Man and the actors from brighton film studioes used to frequent the pub. I lived there as well as my Grandfather and little John. Ted Bushel another Stunt Man used to come he was a friend he lived across the road they had about 6 children. I wonder if the amazing bakery is still there just across the road and along a bit. And the 3 barristers who lived in the Mews they were friends one of them came to Scotland to visit and get a real scottish breakfast. Dame Flora Robinson who lived in the Mews was also a customer.

Simply put...the worst experience I have had to endure in forty years of visiting public houses. I arrived in the pub to meet my two sons and my older son's girlfriend. I was a little late so they already had their drinks. The young chap behind the bar seemed completely disinterested, staring at his mobile phone whilst I waited to be served. Eventually I was served a pint after prompting him. Having finished our first round of drinks my younger son ordered another round. It was then that the rude barman said that I'd had enough to drink and that he wouldn't be serving me. I informed him I'd had one pint and nothing beforehand. For some reason he didn't believe me. This caused a little bit of an argument and eventually I left the pub having been completely embarrassed in front of my own kids by the rude barman. I then went to the Barley Mow where I was treated like a paying customer should be. A far nicer pub. The choice of ale is good at the Hand in Hand but the staff are rude and have no customer service skills whatsoever. An apology via this medium should be the bare minimum but I won't hold my breath.

Superb little pub offering a great choice of ales, with a real old fashioned atmosphere. The staff were knowledgeable and very friendly. Even had a lovely chinwag with the locals.

Wonderful staff and the usual patronage / regulars are all incredibly welcoming and full of humor. Not one macro brewery to be found. All local-ish microbrews from really incredible breweries. When I return to England, even if I'm staying far from Kemptown I'm definitely popping by Hand In Hand again. Amazing!!!

A great small bar that is fantastic for beer lovers as they serve a large range of beers most of which they need themselves. We went a week before Christmas, and the bar man was being very strict on covid measures which worked for me, and we chatted happily about the beers.

Had a lovely roast. Nice to just stroll off the beach and tuck into roast beef and Yorkshires. Great decor and friendly staff. In truth, I wouldn’t have picked the music but it didn’t detract from the experience. Great place.

Lovely lunch served by Danny! Food could have been hotter ! Three thin slices of beef were delicious but would expect more for £22.. Yorkies need improvement as mine are fluffier and better !! Always like to go out and have food I can’t do!! It is recommend for sure !! Do try it out and hopefully they will do better in Yorkies !! Fabulous staff!!

Great Sunday Lunch, four of us had the Roast Beef, and it was superb. The Butternut Squash Welling was super tasty but could have been a bit hotter. Excellent service and big shout out to Kerry, thank you for all your help.

Tempest is an amazing pub! This review is purely in regards to their current kitchen Puffin. Not sure if I was unlucky but my £15 "roll" turned out to be a single slice of brioche bread folded in half with not a lot inside. It was tasty, but was pretty stingy portion size wise, especially for £15! It made me a bit sad.

The food looks gorgeous, size of the dishes is huge, however, the taste is average. Very instagrammable:) a big selection of beers, siders and other drinks. Great atmosphere by the sea, so I definitely recommend it for the vibes!

We're definitely part of the "let's try one of everything" crowd. Everything was delicious, and the cave seating inside definitely offered some privacy!

I visited Tempest a few times during Brighton Music Conference she the vibe of this place is amazing. Definitely recommend their vegan chilli cheese burger as well. Looking forward to coming back next time I'm in Brighton

Whenever we go on vacation, I always seek out themed or unique dining establishments. I had made advanced reservations for an indoor table at Tempest in long for 6pm. We were promptly seated without any delay, and we used a QR code to order and pay, with a server delivering our food directly to our table. The menu options were limited, as were the drink choices, although it was evident that they had a full bar and could prepare any drink. The food was delicious and the ambiance was enjoyable. It's a fantastic spot to gather with friends for drinks, but I wouldn't necessarily return for a family dinner.

Came here for a Sunday vegan roast and it was 10/10 and absolutely delicious. I had the pork belly and my wife had the nut roast, both were exceptionally well cooked and super tasty! Highly recommend and will definitely be returning.

The Earth & Stars has always been a favourite hang out of ours and now there are a new team at the helm it’s back on track which is really excellent news. The decor is bright and welcoming and music choices spot on. The plant based menu was really tasty and good value. I had pie and mash with minted peas and gravy which was a proper treat. Pie was delicious and all the trimmings were perfect. A generous amount of gravy was especially good. We also had some puddings which were all equally tasty. The vibes are excellent and we can take our dog who is also a fan of the place. Great selection of local beers and lovely chilled wine for me. Lots to choose from too. Looking forward to trying a roast soon and generally having a great place to relax and have fun now the vibes are back on point. You should deffo check it out even if you’re not a plant based eater do your bit for the planet and eat green you won’t be disappointed.

I've been going to The Earth & Stars for a number of years and the new managers have really lifted the place back to being a great pub. The bar and food offering is vegan friendly. Great selection of beers and the new kitchen menu is awesome. Last night I had the burger followed by cheesecake. Very tasty! The new team really makes you feel welcome and the decor has been brightened up a treat. Looking forward to my next visit very soon. Thoroughly recommended. x

Lovely hosts, vibrant atmosphere with a mixed crowd of young mothers and their babies, hipsters and cool old folk, plus randos who wobble in from the station. The Sunday roast is excellent and I am not a vegan. They are, their chef is and I am happy to have savoured, no, enjoyed their plant-based goodness.

Brilliant food and lovely service at what is becoming one of my favourite spots in town! I always liked the pub but the new managers have brought something very special, we were made to feel very welcome and loved the menu and a good spread of beers and wine to boot. Visited Earth and Stars Brighton on a busy Saturday night and was blown away by the service from Luke the barman. He quickly recommended a beer that suited my preferences perfectly and then prepared three amazing cocktails for me—an Old Fashioned, a Godfather, and a Spicy Margarita. Every drink was crafted with care and tasted fantastic. Luke’s attentiveness and expert recommendations really made my visit memorable. Excellent service and top-notch cocktails!

I stumbled into this little gem and was delighted by the cosy atmosphere and excellent vegan food. I would particularly recommend having both the corn rib and Korean pork starters. Lovely addition to Brighton’s vibrant food scene and I noticed they have lots of fun events on which I will definitely be coming back for.

We recently hired the upstairs for our wedding reception and it was absolutely brilliant, a night i will never forget. The staff on hand were really helpful and nothing was too much of an ask. The communication over email was great, I always got a quick response answering any queries i had. I was able to check in a few days before and see if we could decorate the room the night before if it wasn’t booked, which we could and the staff then were also very helpful. The food came out at 8 as discussed - we ordered the platter for 40 people (we had around 80 guests but a lot ate before they came and the 40ppl platter was plenty!) - and we had so many compliments on the food! It was served on the pool table which meant it didn’t take up any space in the main room which we wanted to dance in etc. Me being the bride of course didn’t prioritise eating because i was too busy yapping and dancing😂 so i’ll definitely be back to try some of the chicken wings our guests enjoyed so much! We also bought a few of the beer buckets they offer which went down a treat, it’s a good deal for if you want some beers available for your guests when they arrive! We asked for a non alcoholic version as well as i myself and a few of my guests don’t drink and the non alcoholic option was really nice🤗 We were able to hire a DJ who used the jokers sound system to play the music as it was all set up and had good volume/sound. I don’t know much about how that all works lol but our DJ was very happy with the set up! Although the outside terrace connected to the pool room is still open to the public when you book upstairs, it was still mostly filled with our guests, i think once the public would realise there was a wedding happening up there they preferred to go back downstairs, so we basically had the terrace to ourselves all night. We had some rain but because the terrace was covered so well it stayed dry enough to sit out there comfortably. Having the three separate rooms (pool room, bar room & main room with stage) was actually really beneficial. It meant anyone who didn’t fancy dancing or wanted to chat in a bit of a quieter setting could go into the pool room where it was less hectic. Good for parents/grandparents who might find all the partying a bit much. We used balloonwise for balloons as recommended by the joker and then brought along a load of our own decorations to put up. The rooms looked great. There was a slight miscommunication as we were supposed to have the upstairs bar open from 6 but it opened at 7, the way the staff and management handled this was brilliant. They made sure that I was not penalised for if the minimum spend wasn’t met and they even refunded me the money i had paid for the extra hour. My guests were still able to order downstairs and it was all resolved very quickly. Mistakes happen, everyone is human, but they showed that they can rectify it right away. Overall, the staff really were great. You could tell their main priority was to make sure everyone had a good night. At the end of the night they even came to me to check i had fun and that everything went well. I am usually such a worrier, but this venue allowed me to sit back, dance and enjoy my night without having to worry about a thing. We were able to collect all our things the next day (don’t park outside in the loading bay we made this mistake, we thought we were safe for a few mins but there’s a camera there and you will get a £35 ticket!! oops😂 park further up the road.) Thank you Joker staff & management for ensuring we had such a wonderful wedding reception. All night our guests complimented the venue saying what a brilliant place for a party it is. Hired the upstairs room for my retirement do last night and it went brilliantly. Great to have a separate room and bar, and Margot was excellent in helping to set the evening up. Only suggestion would be that the toilet facilities could do with some investment...

We hired the upstairs areas last Friday for my companies 10 year anniversary party & it was brilliant! A fantastic location, great space, loved having the games room's as well. Had such a fantastic evening at The Joker! 🍸 Tali, our bartender, was absolutely brilliant – warm, attentive, and clearly in love with her craft. We asked for cocktail recommendations, and without missing a beat, she matched us with the perfect choices – each one spot on. Came here on Friday the 11th as part of my mates stag weekend. I had the chicken strips with a blue cheese sauce. The chicken was succulent and tender. The sauce was perfect. I had a pint of Asahi, and that was cold and very nice. Recommend this place to all.

We were 6 people that went for a Sunday Roast to The Geese after recommendations. We all rated it 6/10 or 5/10 overall. Definitely not the best roast in Brighton. The atmosphere of the pub itself is lovely. Would definitely go back for a drink but maybe not a roast. When we ordered no one told us there will be such a long wait, which often pubs and restaurants tell their customers to prepare them, but unfortunately nothing was said to us. We got Chicken, Beef, Lamb and the Veggie Wellington option. Out of those, the chicken and the beef were the best. We also got cauliflower and cheese and also broccoli and cheese which was burnt but it was then replaced and it was average tasting. Now all 6 of us agreed that there was a lack of veggies on our plates. The roasted potatoes somehow were both crispy and stale at the same time and a bit hard on the inside and the plates didn’t have an equal amount of potatoes. The Yorkshire pudding looked like a muffin and it was hard and cold when the food was served. The gravy on our plates was some of the tastiest gravy ever! Overall we waited almost an hour for our food. I wouldn’t mind if the communication from the staff was there as sometimes tasty things take time to get prepared but this was an average roast that confused me.

Food tasted like it was made a fortnight ago and the microwaved twice. Gravy tasted of powder and starch. Chicken and beef was dry and tough. Very loud place, but the atmosphere was still nice and the beer selection was good.

Everything about this place is great. Great vibe, very friendly staff and fantastic food. The bangers and mash were so fresh and delicious. The pork and chilli sausage had the perfect amount of spice to them. Might also be the best onion gravy I've ever eaten. It all went perfectly with their house lager. Couldn't recommend this place enough!

The Geese is one of the best pubs in Brighton. Always a great vibe — friendly staff, good tunes, and the food is unreal. Known for its Sausage and Mash throughout the week! But the Sunday roast is proper, huge portions and that gravy is something else. Decent mix of locals and visitors, never feels pretentious. Great range of beers too, and it’s just a nice spot to chill with mates. Always end up staying for “one more”. Can’t fault it — absolute Brighton classic.

I came in on Tuesday for some banger’s and mash. Eden the girl behind the bar was really lovely and helpful. She recommended the spicy kofta which was one of the best veggie sausages I’ve ever had. The atmosphere was great, will definitely be back for a roast.

We came on Sunday and had two pork belly roasts and they were one of the best roasts we’ve had! Highlights were the cabbage and the roastys were dreamy. The pork belly was juicy with crispy crunchy skin 😍. All the staff who served us were amazing Adonis, Saf and Emerald served us but ALL the staff were, friendly, helpful and bent over backwards to help us out. We will definitely be back, highly recommend

This was THE BEST roast I've had at a pub in ages. Everything was delicious! The pork was so tender, all the veg was cooked perfectly and the gravy was amazing. The staff were super lovely and friendly too ♥️ They also has a great selection of sides with cauli cheese, pigs in blankets and stuffing. Will definitely go again soon

Came for New Year’s Eve lunch. We arrived a little earlier than we had booked, but staff were super friendly and helpful in getting us settled in whilst waiting for our table. The man (i assume is the owner) who served us, was very welcoming and ensured we were looked after. Food was great, everyone enjoyed their meals. The only reason I am rating this 4* is because the sticky toffee pudding was a little dry and was sadly not sticky! Great advice and knowledge on the beers available on tap.

We had the most yummy roast this afternoon at The Cleveland Arms! First time visit and we'll be back. The service was lovely and a special shout out to the chef because it was the nicest pork belly porchetta we've ever eaten. All the sides were great and the gravy was next level. I wish we had room for pudding because they sounded yummy too. We'll be back to try the midweek menu :)

Always good. Friendly staff, prime position on the corner by the park and really really tasty food. Great place to hang out and in the summer the outdoor seating is perfect. The venison stew is some of the best comfort food you'll ever have! It's divine!

Popped in ordered Thai eats , turned up no rice , staff didn't mention main dished have NO RICE (Note to staff say these words) Asked twice for dinners plates , apparently staff are NOT allowed in kitchen! Joke . Fella drunk as a sack fell over and newly hit a curry , I helped him up, and asked staff to ring him a cab, which they did. Food spring rolls over priced at nearly 7🦑, curry watery , service dire , food not much better , finally got two small plates , what a circus . Will NOT be back. Try the MON cafe in Hove . Much better

Every time I visit Brighton, I really enjoy going to The Wick Inn. There’s a great selection of Thai food on the menu and whenever you order a drink, the service is polite and efficient. What could be better than a Thursday night with a fantastic jazz band and great Thai red curry at the Wick Inn? It was our first time in Brighton and we did not know what to expect. The Wick Inn exceeded our expectations for the evening. It's a historic inn with a cozy vibe, and upstairs there was an excellent jazz trio playing live music. The live jazz is presented at least once a week at the Wick Inn, though usually on Wednesdays. Afterward, we dug into the Thai red curry, which was delicious with just the right balance of coconut, curry paste and heat We will be back!.

Staff very helpful when you need help picking out a drink. Very friendly with a smile on their face, which is unusual nowadays. Atmosphere seemed laid back and quiet, but I was there on a Monday.

Awesome little bar with a great friendly atmosphere. We stopped here for a couple of drinks where the barmaid was kinda enough to choose a drink for me that was not a fruity IPA. She chose well for me. This place has various music/DJ events happening each week. It's sometimes hard to get a table to yourself but people seems willing to share and be sociable. Very inclusive bar with all sorts of people. Love it. Will return one day. Decor is cool and candlelit in the evenings.

No matter whether you're up for a call ale or a modern brew you'll find something for yourself. A perfect place to get a pint or two. The staff is very friendly. It's been 10 years since I had been in this pub and it's not changed at all. It's a small pub right in the heart of the city- perfect if you want to soak up the atmosphere of Brighton on a sunny weekend or have drinks on a dark evening. Good selection of drinks. However seating is limited, and it's not a great place for a quiet chat - music very loud!

Didn't have food but the ales were fab, old school reggae and dub DJ was playing some lovely vintage vinyls and the artwork is amazing in there

Great traditional pub but it is best at the weekend. Live DJs on Friday Saturday and Sunday and always a great atmosphere in the evening and the decour is really nice with the fairy lights. Staff are friendly. The prices are perhaps on par with other pubs in the area (£5.20 for a pint of ale but £6.70 for an IPA). Worth it for the music and atmosphere though.

Used be best roast in Brighton, but now gone so downhill. Just a plateful of beetroot purée, over powering the taste of anything else. No ideal why they put so much. Think must be new chef. But won’t be returning. Awful.

Large pub with good atmosphere, and dog-friendly. Lots of space and friendly staff. 2 for 1 on burgers on Monday. I had the vegan special, which was a cauliflower soup with Ciabatta, and which was great value at £6. Good range of vegan options on the menu.

American in the UK learning pub life, got chili cheese fries and it didn't disappoint, I'm not huge in it here as it is different from what I'm accustomed to and they over cooked the cheese hut aside that it was quite tasty and they have a great selection of drinks to choose from. Over all welcoming environment and friendly staff, good if you're lost in Brighton and want a chill place to hang for a couple hours.

Sachets of ketchup in 2025?!?! Staff who need much much more training in customer service and not to pass glasses by the rim with dirty fingers. Management never respond to reviews so do they care? Doesn't seem so. Otherwise good garden and good atmosphere.

Atmosphere ok, service either slightly impatient or too casual, but not terrible. Food however really was bad. Burnt, dry, over salted, over sour. Really poor. Only enjoyable food was the chips. No one asked if we enjoyed it, so here's the review.

We had a party in the function room upstairs and when I say its GORGEOUS! Before adding any decorations it's lovely. They provide a mini bar area and a member of staff to serve drinks so you dont need to leave the room! The most hostile pub I've experienced in Brighton! Ordered deliveroo as their kitchen had closed. Was then told that we couldn't eat there, was made to wait outside and left with my partner shortly after. Security was extremely rude and unprofessional, even grabbing our food. Such a shame as totally would have stayed and ordered more drinks. Surely that doesn't make any business sense?! It's not like the pub was super busy or we were going to smear pizza over the walls. Will not be returning.

Ordered their fish chips and cheese burger to share. The fish was nick nicely done with crispy batter coating and moist cooked fish outside. The accompanying chips were huge and flavorful, but the mushy peas are a tad dry. Taste ok eaten with the tartar sauce that served with the fish. The cheese burger was tasty and juicy. Tried their crafted beer, refreshing, and went well with the food. I would recommend this place.

Venesssa, Nakita, Denise were incredibly hospitable. Being from a a different county, these girls made us feel comfortable. They are great and lovely. I really appreciate going into a pub that actually cares about the patrons that walk in. Honestly. The best pub in Brighton

Called in here for a quick drink whilst visiting Brighton last week, the reason we called in here, this pub was the only place in town that we came across that had a dog bowl outside. So we paid back our kindness & enjoyed a drink outside in the sun. The bar staff on that day were very friendly & accommodating & our drinks were reasonably priced considering where the pub is located. We would definitely recommend this pub if you're in the area. Lovely little pub set in the centre of Brighton. The decor makes it feel comfortable. A great choice of beers and wines. A good food menu is available. I personally chose the Yankee burger, and it was the tastiest burger I've had in a long time. The staff were friendly and attentive. So if you are visiting or indeed live in Brighton, I can highly recommend this pub

Been there for years. A bohemian and kooky little bar, in the middle of a semi residential Georgian area of Brighton. Very unique space, offering different selections to your mainstream drinks. Always full of interesting people. Old school vibes, classic music from a record player, interesting art, unique... worth a visit

An quirky bar suitable for an alternative crowd, definitely worth a visit. Visit here for some unique cocktails, a relaxed youthful atmosphere, gothic/new age vibes and some imaginative decor. The bar men were professional, friendly and fast. They were extremely conscious of guest experiences even while having plenty of fun themselves. It is Brighton so there will always be some trouble which when it happened on the night, outside the pub, they dealt with swiftly and professionally. I was impressed at their abilities with getting the night back on track. They were also very clearly good at judging which customers wanted to chat and entering into a dialogue. They seem genuinely to care that people have a nice night. Our cocktails were brilliant and they were bespoke. My drink was perfectly sweetened and my partner got his old fashioned the way he wanted it to. The only negatives I have for the bar is that I think it could do with a clean. I love alternative pubs but I still think it is nice to feel you are in a clean space. I also didn't really like the music too much.

Nice little pub with a fairly eclectic style. Only red wine is in cans. But the beers looked nice and a great selection of whisky. Stopped here to meet an old friend and say hello. Was a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours chatting. The event room downstairs looked amazing and will probably try to go back for a visit when something is happening. Like an old speakeasy in the basement.

Came for 'Horseplay', the basement area where it was held is one of my faves; it's like being in the belly of a ship in the best way. The event itself was so creative and wonderful and I recommend everyone attend at least once! However, the drinks were TOO expensive. £8.50 for a medium house wine is crazy even for Brighton!! But overall it's a super unique pub that is definitely worth checking out

Stopped in for a post-dinner drink and had a great experience. I was treated to a fresh pint of Toadlicker Pale Ale from Hand Brew Co—crisp, hoppy, and really hit the spot. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed, and the service was excellent. A perfect way to wind down the evening!

Don’t go to this pub if you want a nice, pleasant atmosphere with a good pint! There were 3 of us on a very hot, sunny day wanting a nice pint & we were the only customers! The Longmans pump beer wasn’t working, neither was a cleaner as it was very grubby. The pub has SEATING ONLY along with CARD ONLY which is why it was so empty. 2 couples came & went because of the above. When we questioned the reasons for the seating & card only rules, we were told to get out. The landlord started swearing because I mentioned that 2 couples had already left, then his wife came out asking why we were complaining about her pub! On telling her that the carpet was very grubby & needed a good clean, she gave us a tirade of swearing abuse & demanded that we get out of her pub! She then had the cheek to tell us off for swearing…. NONE OF US HAD! DON’T GO THERE as they are so rude & offensive! There are some lovely pubs in Brighton but this isn’t one of them!!!!! It doesn’t deserve even a 1*

I like this pub except for some of the staff. Earlier this afternoon there was a guy on who was brilliant and friendly, this evening 2 staff who basically aren't bothered, one of them, a guy, was on last time I came, a couple of months ago, was on then and obviously hanging and isn't much better today. Sort your staff or lose custom

Nice pub let down by an obnoxious landlady. We popped in for a drink and the landlady was openly rude to her staff infront of customer's for making an aperol in the RIGHT glass, seems her staff know more than her. Bar staff don't get paid enough to deal with these sort of people.

If you end up here on Sunday evening, well ... You will have a quite nice experience. Sundays is jazz, from 8pm till 11pm. The crowd is mixed up, artistically, I would say.... Beers are magnificent (unfiltered, crafted with care, and heavy in hops!). The decorations are interesting and the carpet... Well, the carpet is fantastic ...

Sat outside on one of tables that was on the street on a monday afternoon. Were sat for ten minutes before we were apprached by an incredibly rude woman demanding what we wanted. Came across more like she wanted us to leave opposed to actually ordering. She was very hostile through ordering, especially when one of the group just wanted tap water. All the glasses arrived dirty and the ice had foreign particles in it. Would not recommend after this experience.

Nice roast. But it took over an hour to arrive. By which point we were ravenous! They had given us extra sides by accident, then tried to retrieve them from the table as they said they had run out. We explained that we would pay for them, but also you can’t put them on someone else’s table now as we had eaten from them 😆. But they still tried to take them away telling us we can’t get food for free. Bless them! That being said, it was very pleasant apart from that. They need to get a bit more organised and train their staff a bit better.

Had a Sunday roast here at the weekend at is was up there with the best. The pork was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing! Roast potatoes were crisp, salty goodness. The veg (cauliflower cheese, roasted carrots, greens, sweet potato purée) were all just as you’d want them. Great big fluffy Yorkshire - good stuff. And the gravy was thin but it packed a flavour punch and was served in a good quantity! If I could change one thing it would have been to swap out the purée for extra apple sauce, but that’s personal preference! My partner and friend were equally impressed with the vegetarian roast, however they were both slightly unsure of the veggie gravy which was orange, potentially carrot or sweet potato based. It was tasty - just unexpected. The sticky toffee pudding was really moist and flavourful! Personally I like it with a little less toffee sauce, or for it to be in a jug, but it didn’t stop us eating it all. Will definitely be back.

Brilliant food: came down from London and had one of the best pub meals for a long time, and on a Monday lunchtime. Perfectly cooked cod, homemade bread, brilliant fresh parfait. Really excellent.

What a great local pub! Situated between two of Brightons great parks (Preston and Blakers) is the PPT a fabulous gastro boozer. A solid range of beers on tap + a menu which a fine dining restaurant would be proud of. For our Saturday lunch we opted with the cod and the chicken, and they did not disappoint! Highly recommend.

Food has unfortunately gone downhill since the amazing kitchen team left a while back. Used to be the best pub food in Brighton, now mediocre at best :(

I was just passing with the dog and thought I’d pop in for quick lunch (on a Tuesday midday) and I have to say I’m so glad I did. This is a fantastic pub with a large multi level garden, very dog friendly. Staff are so welcoming and friendly. Great choice of beers and the “Nourish Bowl” with chicken was unexpectedly delicious! (I say “unexpectedly” because I’m trying to eat more healthily and often that means taking the disappointing option… but not today!). I will definitely be back!

Just popped in to this hidden gem for a quiet chat mid afternoon. Beautifully decorated kitsch backstreet pub with a warm welcoming campy atmosphere. Didn’t eat. Ale was ok and the toilets clean. How lucky the locals are to have this on their doorstep!

Not really how it used to be,if you were on your own you would be having to talk to yourself which is a shame as this was a great pub years ago,was very quiet for an early evening not sure if they have live singer's or music.as I said used to be vibrant.

This place is a wonderful secret. Totally over the top decor and really friendly regulars and staff. The food is great, and today we had roast beef and roast chicken baguettes, with dipping gravy and a range of sides, we went for roast potatoes. They even warm the plates. The place was fully booked so we ate at the bar. £8, for a full baguette, wonderful roast meat. I suggest you book for their excellent Sunday roasts.

In my opinion, a bit bland, the potatoes were overdone and you only get three of them gravy was bland and had to pay extra for more gravy. It’s the second time I’ve gone there now and it’s not been a good experience so I won’t be going there for a long time, they had not been open long that day, and the potatoes were just too hard and tasted oil and fatty.. seems like there needs a little bit of care with the cooking with a bit of love and for £22 for a mixed roast, plus paying extra for gravy just seems a little expensive as well.

Lovely thai food and sensible price. Also free show every Friday and Saturday at 9 pm. Will go back again.

Held a surprise birthday here last night, it was a lovely night! Great boozer, great service. Lucy really helped us out with the planning and she gave the best service I’ve ever had in a pub to be honest. And to top it off, she had the most beautiful eyes! Win win! Will return again very soon

We visited The Sidewinder for Sunday lunch ahead of '20 Years of Bloc Party' on Brighton Beach, and it was the perfect pre-gig choice. Just a short stroll from the seafront, this gem of a pub combines Brighton charm with eclectic interiors, a cosy atmosphere, and two great outdoor spaces for catching the sun. There were four of us, and the welcome was warm from the moment we walked in. A big shoutout to Sarah, who helpfully moved us to a table where I could charge my tired old iPhone. Excellent, thoughtful service. We ordered from the Sunday Thyme Roast menu. Two of us had the roasts, which were devoured down to the last bite. I had the Gai Tod Satay Fried Chicken, which was crisp, juicy, and full of flavour. The Tom Yum Fries were punchy and delicious, and the Tempura Prawns were light, crunchy, and perfectly cooked. The only reason for four stars on service is that our mains didn’t come out together. The roasts arrived first, and we waited around 45 minutes for the remaining dishes. After a polite reminder at the bar, everything came promptly. The friendly team and great atmosphere made up for the delay. We enjoyed it so much that we returned after the gig for one last drink before heading home. The evening vibe was just as lovely, with a warm and welcoming feel that made it hard to leave. It’s no surprise that The Sidewinder was voted one of the Top 10 pubs in Brighton & Hove for 2024 and 2025. Highly recommended for food, atmosphere, service, and its brilliant Brighton personality.

Called in to the Sidewinder for some Thai food, as Namo-X now do the food here. Food was really amazing. Definitely not to be missed. Hadn't been to the Sidewinder in a while, and had forgotten what a cool and friendly pub this is. Sure we'll be back soon

As a venue, it's great. Good-looking proper pub, fantastic big beer garden out the back, and it puts on some great nights. HOWEVER, service leaves a lot to be desired, especially if they're busy. The staff come across rude and disrespectful. Whiskey drinkers - be aware, if you do not specify the brand of whiskey you would like, they will automatically serve you Jack Daniels. Not a nice mix with ginger ale.

Leans into the bohemian and alternative Kemp Town themes. Been around for years. Ok selection of drinks, but other establishments down the road might be more adventurous. Definitely a summer food, as has a nice space out back. Maybe not cosy enough in the winter

Always a great visit, made even better with the new food from Carlito Burritos. Had the beef tacos. Amazing, and great portion of meat. Kids love the donkeys at Christmas. Staff are always lovely.

Amazing pub. Great decor and extra yummy loaded burger And noe they even have a Thai kitchen and oh so yum! Pad Thai with green curry was really tasty!

We went to watch a gig downstairs that was love. The bar staff were lovely people very helpful and kind. They support my diet restrictions with a recommendation. The beer was quite nice and a good price. They also helped me when I needed some ear protection as the gig I went to was quite loud and they had plenty of ear plugs behind the bar. This pub would have got a full but as a disabled person I struggled with the stairs and also the downstairs loo had no paper so I had to use more stairs to go upstairs where I did find toilets. That said they have all gender toilets which is fantastic.

Been coming here for a few years now. Couldn’t ask for more from the staff. They not only look after my dog Lola every-time I come in, with water, treats and constant affections. but I feel welcome and a proper laugh anytime with staff

One of the best venues in Brighton. The vibe is great, the food is great, and the music is better. I have been to the Monday night open mic, the Tuesday night Jazz Jam, and gigged there on multiple occasions with different bands. I have always had a good experience with the venue and the staff. Definitely a pub to visit if you're in town!

I went to see the band Fossil Fuel with my partner last night. The gig was excellent but no air conditioning. So after dancing for a while the heat became unbearable and we had to go and sit in the main bar to cool off a bit. We had to do this a few times unfortunately and others that we spoke to were suffering the same. The staff were very pleasant but none of the draft beers were of popular brands so not easy to identify what order without reading all the labels on the pumps. Reasonable prices with clean and comfortable surroundings. The toilets were up to par as well.

We hired the Cellar Bar at The Brunswick for a birthday celebration, and Dana and the team were amazing from start to finish. From planning the event to the night itself, they listened to all my requests and helped me organise a perfect surprise birthday party without a single hiccup. Great venue, lovely staff, thank you for an unforgettable night!

Did the job! Staff were nice, music was fun, the place is a little bit worn and sticky but the drinks were good. Fun escape room upstairs. Food menu was a bit lacking for vegan choices.

Went to watch Hunky Dory by the Brighton Beach Boys Saturday. Brilliant performance as always, well Organised by the pub. Bar staff great, even though it was busy, they smiled and dealt with serving people quickly. Definitely recommend this venue.

I went here for a roast dinner and I must say it was superb. The staff were really friendly and my dinner came within 10 minutes. Nice clean pub.

First time visiting and trying the roast - it was looovely - and the service is amazing. The pub had a good, cosy atmosphere. Definitely recommend:) The only one thing I would suggest is getting some nice wine selection on the menu, but the rest is 5stars!

Fantastic roast, really lovely pub. The staff greeted us with such a warm welcome, it was as though they were greeting someone they knew (this was the first time we've been). It was really busy by 1pm, so would highly recommend booking! Both had the pork belly, it just melted in your mouth. We had the stuffing balls and pigs in blankets as extras and these were fantastic too. Good amount of gravy too which is a big thing for me! Will definitely be going back again!

I normally never finish my roast, well…today was different! I left an empty plate. I think this was possibly one of the best roasts of my life. It was beautiful and absolutely delicious. We also ordered some extra pigs in blanket and stuffing balls. Omg! The stuffing balls were to die for. I can highly recommend this pub for family Sunday roast. The staff are also very nice and friendly. We will definitely be back again soon ☺️

Came here for bottomless brunch for the Second time. Pizzas are excellent. My non Gluten base was one of the best I've had. Lots of toppings with great cheese. Best bit is there are several different drinks- different mimosas and elderflower fizz and the server keeps bringing jugs. So no waiting at the bar. If you come in a large group then share pizzas as their oven is small and pizzas come out at different times. Server was very friendly. Very cool place. Best for bottomless brunch if you like pizza.

Absolutely gorgeous food in a chilled relaxed pub. Inviting to children and pets. The food came out fresh and steaming hot. The portions are large and will definitely fill you up.

Very much my top choice of local. Nice relaxed vibes, good music, great staff and independent of the big nasty pub companies and brewery's that have snapped up much of Brighton's boozers. Could do with more vegan options on the menu but the food is good ;)

Lovely pub and staff. The Bar team are super friendly and the place has a really nice atmosphere about it. The West Hill Tavern had been recommend to me by friends after they had been there and had the Sunday roast. Needless to say the roast was every bit as nice as I had been told it was. I have already recommended it to friends and colleagues as the place to go the next time they fancy a Sunday Roast out or even a nice drink. A great little pub with a fantastic team.

We stopped in for some food and had the pizza, it was really good! Fresh, tasty, and cooked just right. No complaints about the kitchen at all. Unfortunately, the service didn’t live up to the food. The staff seemed more focused on flirting with each other than actually serving customers. Took far too long to get a drink, and it felt like we were interrupting something every time we approached the bar. Great pizza, but the service needs sorting.

I really enjoy the Monday live folk music, staff are friendly and there is a good selection of drinks which are rotated regularly. Musicians are amazing!

I am very sorry to do this, but if you pay £50 for pizzas that were never received, what choice have you got? Management completely absolved themselves of responsibility. Once the wrong order was placed, that was that, and as a result I am £50 out of pocket. Put a really bad taste in my our mouths after a whole day spending money with the establishment.

Good looking Irish Pub. My brother, who is a Guinness connoisseur, reliably tells me this is the best Guinness in brighton. Lots of screens up for the sport. Plenty of little private seating areas too.

Amazing place for a someone into rock music especially 🙂Quite lively even on a Sunday evening. Offers a wide range of lagers, IPAs and more. Has live rock music and long opening hours. Friendly stuff. Nice decoration

Real mixed here…staff, Guiness, and vibe are great. But, I just want to let them know that the toilet mould and general cleanliness is not acceptable. Incredible neglect considering public actually use this room, see pictures. Aside that, beer and craic great.

We chose this place based on reviews and photos. I can say that is the best surprise of the day, food is genuinely home made! A great choice of Sundays Roasts with home made Yorkshire puddings with the roast. A nice add on of Mediterranean speciality, Portuguese fish stew, DELICIOUS! A nice variation from the classic fish & chips! This place is also freehouse, so good variations of IPA and Lagers. Excellent roast dinners! We’ve been going for 3 years now and never had another pub roast like it. Always great, we eat here during the week too as the daily menus are also delicious. Staff go out of their way to make everything a top notch experience. Highly recommend but booking is essential. The chef is brilliant. Try the prawns during the week they are sooooo good!!!

Top Quality Roast in friendly, amiable place, hitting that sweet spot between gastro pub and chilled local. Booked a Sunday lunch here after hearing from a friend that this is her go too for Sunday lunch. Hanover isn't too short on either decent pubs or cracking Sunday roasts, so there is some stiff local competition. On booking, I asked if they could cater for a friend who was gluten free, soy free and vegan, and my child, who being on the spectrum with sensory processing challenges, was particularly important. The staff checked and were able to cater for all of us. Winner winner, Sunday dinner! On sitting down the pub wasn't too busy but did fill up. Inside is cosy without feeling cluttered. Little Sims playing in the background helped for a chilled out Sunday vibe. Perfect! The vegan Wellington was just super. Three massive roast potatoes, savoy cabbage, braised red cabbage, beetroot, carrots, roast parsnips and parsnip crisps, with 2 generous slices of Wellington in a flakey pastry. The gravy was served on the side, which I really liked, as it meant I could attempt to tempt my kid into trying an actual vegetable. And also because I'm a fussy bint with gravy placement! The entire portion was enough to place me in a very happy food coma. Really helpful with regards to my kids limited pallet, and as other autistic folk will attest, this is so important when enjoying a meal out. So appreciated the flexibility. We ordered some roast chicken and pale Yorkshires for her beige food requirements. The rest of the menu, dotted around the pub on chalk boards, looks equally good. This is definitely going to be my go to for a decent Sunday roast, and I so want to try the other offerings. We all said, we've not had a roast this good for a very, very long time. This place is unique. It’s like a Parisian speakeasy. The staff are really smiley. They served good cocktails. The music was lovely, the chairs comfy. But it’s the atmosphere that makes it interesting and the decor makes you want to stay. On top of that the staff and the drinks are excellent.

One of my favourite cocktail bars in Brighton really let me down tonight when bringing some work colleagues. Wouldn’t serve one of team a lime & soda (only a giant bottle of sparkling water) all the cocktails were just atrocious- had to send the palomas back and we left half the margaritas. Cocktails take skill and you can’t charge people this amount of money for unbalanced, undrinkable drinks… likely won’t be back.

Really disappointed on my recent visit to this place. Used to be a favourite place for cocktails that I told people about. I wasn't drinking that evening and ordered a lime and soda. I was told by the wait staff that they '' didn't serve it'' (even though they had sparkling water and limes for margaritas). I felt pressured into buying a wine which is not cool. Won't be coming back.

My go-to bar when looking for cocktails or wine in a relaxed yet spirited environment! Very dog friendly. The team are always friendly, chatty and professional - really knowledgeable and happy to make recommendations. Can usually walk in for a table if there are 2-3 of you but better to book for weekend evenings.

An absolutely beautifully designed cocktail bar with some food options in London Road Brighton, close to the Royal Pavilion. Beautifully designed and an amazing ambience if you just want a great place to relax. They specialise in prohibition cocktails as well as a great choice in Champagne cocktails and an excellent choice of wines. Prices are high but worth it for that magical atmosphere. I really enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and if you want a blast to the past, this is the place! Highly recommended.

Always a great experience at the Urchin! Can’t find any fresher seafood for such affordable prices. Everything is cooked to perfection and served with love. They deffo know their food and you can tell from their wine list and from the flavour combinations they serve. The staff has been lovely everytime I been there, and the sitting area is clean and nicely decorated. Only issue was some stones left in the mussels so they weren’t properly cleaned but that happened only once (yesterday) however they’re forgiven because everything else is 10/10! *chefs kiss*

Fantastic wine fantastic food. All the seafood is high high quality. Server fresh with brilliant Dips. Loved everything. Paddy was who our server who was quick, very friendly and knowledgable. Such a great pub. The service was amazing, especially our server Grace who was a dream at making sure we had everything we needed. The oysters were great and the portions were really generous! Can't wait to go back!

We were a bit apprehensive walking out here from Brighton due to the distance and it was mainly the brewery aspect that drew us. They had a whole lobster for £38 which honestly seemed like a typo (in Edinburgh we would normally pay >£50) the lobster was phenomenal. The craft beer selection was a little bit disappointing but the food more than made up for it and service was excellent!

Scallop, Squid, 2 x Muscles superb. Local IPA and a glass of Sancerre also taken. All very well looled after. Thank you. We will make time to come back.

Oysters were amazing so fresh but the Paella was such a dissapoinment! Overpowering flavor of fennel, and when we mentioned it to the waitress she just shrugged and said 'well I love fennel'. I also like fennel, but not when it overpowers the rest of the dish. 5 of 6 clams were not open, and my husband had mild food poisoning symptoms within 2 hours of us leaving the restaurant. Such a pity as we love seafood, but we won't be back and will not be recommending

At long last, I made it here and I was not disappointed. Every mouthful was an experience..an explosion of flavour in the mouth. I really enjoyed the crab and the sauce it came in was soo tasty I drank the lot of it! My partner had the mussels which were also so tasty. The oysters were fresh and delightful. Will definitely come again! Highly recommend 👌. Quality food at a great price

Popped in on a recommendation for the Sunday roast, we had the 3 meat option. The lamb was amazing, also the pork but the beef was rather poor being tough and chewy. Great selection of fresh vegetables with a couple of puréed options on the side. Good choice of beers and wines, a little difficult to find but well worth the effort. Love it here. The staff are so warm, welcoming and friendly. The food is excellent! I’ve been here 4 times over 6 months and it’s been outstanding every time. Everything is cooked fresh, with quality ingredients and perfect seasoning. Nothing needs to be added or taken away, I highly recommend! The atmosphere, music and overall vibe are great too 😄

Terrible service and food was tasteless, dry and cold. And we waited over an hour for food till we had to ask whats going on as other tables who came much later then us got served before us. Never got any apology. We still paid £168 between 4 for the privilege and I had to tell the server how poor it was and he just said oh well I'll feed that back! It's not good enough!! Could be such a nice place but need to sort out their service and food quality.

Came here for a Sunday Roast and was not disappointed. The Yorkshire puddings were absolutely huge! They benefit from a gorgeous outside space which is lovely when the sun's out, and the place has a really nice atmosphere in general. Been back a few times just for drinks but didn't hesitate to bring family here for dinner when they were down to visit.

We wandered in on the off-chance on Sunday 30th June. A hot day. Despite not having booked we were made most welcome and given a shady seat in the really beautiful, calm garden area. Our dog was also welcome. We didn't want a roast dinner, so opted to share a starter washed down with a couple of beers. The service was EXCELLENT. Staff anticipating needs (ashtray, water bowl for the many dogs, umbrellas to provide shade). The most noticeable thing was that the staff seemed happy, they knew what they were doing, confident and not brow beaten. A really excellent experience. Thank you.

We've eaten here many times and the food has always been excellent- this time, not so. Tempted by reviews we decided to go for the first time for Sunday Roast. What a disappointment! 'Medium' beef was quite 'done' and in one thick and untrimmed slice accompanied by a small burnt Yorkshire. Vegetables were passable but the tragedy was the (sacred) impenetrable 'roast' potatoes.....these were mummified to the state where neither a knife or a fork could cut them. At £22 a plate a real steal- but not by me- by them. Lesson learnt 🙂

We went during Friday lunchtime. We stood at the bar for a good 5 mins until someone came to us. The garden atmosphere is great, but the food was really mediocre. The fish and peas were quite tasteless, and the chips were either not cooked enough or had green bits in them. The vegan polenta burger was much better.

Food was great and the staff was friendly. I went for the Mac and cheese (with a side of salad) and it was perfect. The vegetarian chilli (which my sister ordered) was really tasty too. It's the perfect place if you're looking for an OG pub experience. The only downside would be the waiting time for the food to be served.

I booked a table here for 12 people, which later rose to 14 people, and the staff were so accommodating all the way through the booking process and throughout the meal. They went above and beyond to make sure we had the best experience - from offering us the private function room outside and putting kids TV on in the room to entertain the children to running across the road to their sister pub for us when they'd run out of ice cream. Everyone was impressed with their food, the service was above and beyond and the pub itself has a great vibe. Will definitely be returning.

Unbelievable visit. I really don't like giving such a negative review BUT, we visited and ordered 4 drinks... After 40minutes, they still had not been poured even though I'd already paid. We explained to staff who said,"We had a lot of tickets to get through".... Even though we could only observe less that 6 people in this large bar.... No idea?! Waited another 5-10mins for the manager who was able to provide a refund... Altho, refund would be "about 3-5days". Unbelievable.... We were late for our dinner reservation.

Service is good wife had the burger she enjoyed I went for the fish and chips like I do at every place i eat out at fish arrived curled up and was very thin looked over cooked but i went with what I was given as was hungry and had prior arrangements after this meal fish was very very think batter if you can call it that was very brown perhaps oil needs changing ? i ate around the batter to uncover what can only be described as tasteless very dry fish more like cheap fish fingers from the super market very hungry and in a rush I ate it all up though so can’t really complain after clearing the plate saw another fish come out from another customer beside me who’s also looked the same they are using the tail of the fish perhaps it’s a cheaper cut being thin please start serving the loin or it will always be a dry tasteless cut if i’d paid £10.00 i’d be happy but for £17.75 i’d not return here it’s a shame as i’m a local resident and the pub and staff are great

You have to order at the bar and get the drinks and then the food will be brought to your table. The portions are generous and they also have regular Guiness beer, although it's not on the menu ;)

Bit of a weird visit; popped in for a quick drink and both staff behind the bar who weren't serving anyone (it was very quiet) watched me approach and said.. nothing. Not "Hello" or "What would you like?" just.. nothing. Very odd and not something I have experienced before. The rest of the visit was unremarkable but based on the welcome (or lack of) and the general atmosphere in the pub I won't return - loads of better options in the City.

Nice and cozy Pub! We came here because it was one of the few only to have some screens, we kindly asked if we could watch the French Open before to book and the staff have been very accommodating, making sure to also save a table in front of one of the screens (: Not very busy, few tables on the ground floor and a restaurant on the top floor. NO Sunday Roast - which we were a bit disappointed of, but you can find several other options on the menu. Great Pie, definitely to try!🥧 😊

Great pub. Good food. Staff not too bad. I like having food here from time to time Fish and chips really good! Good portion, feels freshly made always. Prices are pretty high, buy after all everything else compensates.

Back home, we’d never get away with this sort of camaraderie – the neighbours would call the police after the second laugh. Here, you raise your glass, you talk to strangers, and suddenly you belong. The Pump House is proof that civilisation doesn’t come from neutrality or punctuality – it comes from a proper pint, poured in the right glass, in a pub that smells of wood, history, and mild bad decisions. God save the pub. Switzerland, take notes – but you’ll never have the balls to pull it off.

Haven't been to the Pump House for a while. Since refurbishment. Plus point was the Harvey. Great pint. Apart from that not great at all. Guy who first served me was great, the girls not very friendly, pint served 75% full, if you pay for a pint, make it a glass full. The food was pretty awful, calamari tasted over cooked. Maybe revoked. Sticky chicken, was OK, beef brisket fries, looked like they had bisto over cheap chips. These are tiny, especially as about £8 each. 3 for £20.. Wasn't asked how it was even though calamari was left. Hopefully just a bad day.. Didn't seem to be busy with regulars as was.

This place is absolutely fabulous. Staff were super helpful. Excellent menu and really good food and wine - can totally recommend their pies. Great atmosphere and very good live music on the friday night we were there. It's very popular and very busy at peak eating times - you need to prebook a table.

We came here for the roast dinner and ordered the pork belly and nut roast. The pork belly was amazing however, the nut roast was slightly overcooked and solid on the inside. The staff were super helpful and took care of half the bill for the nut roast and then stopped serving it to the rest of the customers as they didn’t want to serve a sub par item. Great food, even better service.

I had a wonderful experience at Better Half Pub today! The Sunday roast was absolutely delicious, definitely one of the best in Brighton and Hove, with perfectly cooked meat, crispy roast potatoes, and flavorful gravy. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and the staff were super friendly. A special shoutout to the chef, who kindly came over to chat with us and made sure our beef was cooked exactly to our liking. I’ll definitely be coming back for more 🙂

We had the most wonderful Sunday roast and evening here, as a big group (11 people) we were struggling to find anywhere that would take us but the better half were very happy to accommodate, letting us pre-order food. The roast dinners were all fantastic, the service was super friendly and lovely, and we just had a brilliant time there all together. Will definitely be coming again!

I have been to the Better Half Pub a few times for food always had a great meal and service. Because of having some special memories here we decided to book the pub to celebrate my husband's life after his funeral service. Simon was very helpful, always super quick to respond and answered all of my questions. They even closed the pub to the public for a few hours which was an extra special touch while we all gathered to share stories and enjoy the food prepared for us. They also allowed us to play our own music to make it even more personal. We were able to make a few small changes to the buffet options (halloumi sticks were extremely popular!) and there was more than enough food for everyone. Thank you so much to Simon and the team at The Better Half Pub for your help with everything during a difficult time.

We’ve been to The Better Half a number of times now—regularly for their incredible Sunday roast and occasionally during the week for a burger and pint—and every visit has been spot-on. The quality of the food and service has always been high, and recently, the Sunday roast has been even better than before… honestly one of the best in Brighton. The staff are consistently friendly, professional, and attentive across the board. On a recent visit, one of the kitchen team recognised us, had a quick chat, and made us feel really welcome,just one example of the warm and personal service here. This is a nice restaurant experience, with great service and an interesting menu. We opted for the chefs menu, with wine flight, given it included several of the dishes we were interested in. We sat at the pass to appreciate the experience. The food was good, technically well done with some considered flavours. The portions were probably a little bigger than we required, but the ingredients were of a high standard and the finished product a pleasing result. The setting was nice but not as intimate as other restaurants we have tried. In summary, a nice experience but not necessarily one to repeat.

10/10 evening at the Flinthouse, we cannot rate highly enough! Our waiter Jeff absolutely made the experience, he was so friendly and such a fun part of our evening! Food was fantastic, some of the best!

We went to the Flint House for the first time today, I’ve been wanting to go there for ages! Our server was Zain, who was the epitome of charm, professionalism & friendliness mixed into one person! The food was fab & I loved my Lychee cocktail too! Sitting up on the terrace was very special. Would highly recommend a visit!

This restaurant is a hidden gem, tucked away from the main town centre. The décor blends industrial with classy, offering a spacious upstairs seating area and a terrace for summer dining. Run by the Gingerman group (I remember visiting the Ginger Pig back in 2012), it was just as good. The food was of a consistently good standard, both in quality and presentation. Service was warm, friendly, and efficient. The ambience was relaxed, yet dishes arrived promptly without feeling rushed. With its choice of à la carte small plates or full set menus (with or without wine pairings), I can see this place becoming very popular. I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience here and would happily return—and recommend it to others.

We’ve been wanting to visit for a while, overall it didn’t disappoint. Most of the dishes are absolutely incredible, especially the lamb shoulder, red mullet, rump steak, pork loin, oysters and prawns. Highly recommend the mash and green bean salad as sides. The confit potatoes looked fantastic but could have had a little more seasoning. The mains are a little on the small side but when you are ordering sides to accompany them nobody went hungry! I was slightly disappointed by the puddings which sounded delicious on paper but didn’t really live up to expectation. The drinks were excellent, lovely martini menu and we had a fantastic bottle of primitivo. Service overall was good, our server was helpful and friendly, one of the staff members seemed to had forgotten how to smile but I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Flint House!

There are a lot of restaurants to choose from in the Lanes with excellent reviews. We chose here due to the small plates seeming to priced fairly reasonably. We were not disappointed the steak for £20 was a normal main course size and probably the best steak I've ever had. The mackerel was gorgeous and lamb was incredibly tender. The fact they offer carafes of wine also makes it possible to have a nice wine without blowing the budget.

Without doubt the best restaurant in Brighton, certainly in terms of value. Three courses for £22? Outrageously good. Examples - Beef shin pappardelle to die for, and Oyster tempura simply heaven. A fascinating wine list - and I was allowed to sample a taster of the gorgeous Timorasso before buying a glass. Do please go - it's a revelation and, for me, the best birthday present I've ever rewarded myself

Solid place for a pint, we only got a couple of beers there so can't review anything food related. Decent beer selection, they have Staropramen on tap AND the proper tankard to serve it in 10/10. In the photo - their snazzy Godzilla figurine climbing on one of the beer pumps 🍻

If you're a vegan going to Brighton, you need to visit Prince George! It's an amazing place, nice atmosphere and a great menu. The restaurant is classified as vegetarian but 95% of the menu can be made vegan. Bring your meat eating friends here and they will be enthused! I really love this place, the food is simple but delicious and the prices are right. I personally recommend Nachos and Quesadillas- great for sharing.

We stopped here for a well needed drink and some food. The food is vegan and vegetarian, not our usual choice but we were pleasantly surprised. Really nice food,especially the mushroom skewers. We had a few plates of different food to try and it was all really nice. Staff very friendly too. Would recommend.

Omg the vegan food here is absolutely incredible. We came years ago and the chef Simona moved elsewhere soon after, but we were delighted to find out they are back again! The burrito and quesadilla dishes we had today were absolutely delicious - the flavours went together perfectly and you can tell that everything has been made beautifully from scratch. Another huge favourite of mine is the vegan roast on Sunday. I'm going to bring some of my vegan (and non-vegan) friends to try it for themselves!

I am not usually a fan but the dish served by the staff of Veggie Dealer was exceptional, Burritos can sometimes be over spiced and seasoned but this was not the case with mine, the flavours were knitted together so well. I highly recommend the food here for both vegan and vegetarian.

Absolutely wonderful place!! The food is veggie and vegan and it is incredible! The loaded fries with bacon jam were so good! The decor is so lovely, it's just such a warm and inviting place! Came down for a weekend in brighton. Absolutely lovely Vegan food! They also have great vegan drink selection. Not sure their names but the small brunette and the tall guy, they were really kind. If we come back to brighton - we’ll visit again 😊

Tried the pork belly, roast beef and mushroom spinach wellington. Good flavours on the pork belly and roast beef but the crackling was unevenly cooked which meant some parts were too hard to eat. I'd skip the mushroom wellington—not very tasty and quite dry. We enjoyed the Guinness and service.

Lovely staff- super accommodating and knew loads about the menu. I have come in quite a few times for sausage and mash and its always amazing but came in for a roast dinner for father's day and it was delicious- we all had such a lovely time and really really enjoyed the food. Thank you to both the girls on shift who were super friendly and to the chefs for the great lunch.

Back in the day (1999-2005) prior to online reviews there was an unofficial league table in Brighton of roasts and an auxilliary game of 'chase the chef'. Back then (less so now) staff were more <ahem> transient and chefs in particular were extremely hard to pin down/not sack. I hope whoever's running this kitchen stays forever, cos it's great! 2 roast pork belly, 1 chicken and 1 nut roast and 4 happy campers. All the staff are lovely and proactive and chatty, just all the sorts of people I'd have hired when I was working pubs and bars. Great roast, good value, fantastic staff and atmosphere overall.

One of the best roast I’ve had recently, considering the big choices we have in Brighton. Each vegetable has its own flavour and gravy was top 🔝. I had chicken and wasn’t dry at all! Have come earlier and have to wait for a bit(as our booking time wasn’t until 30 min later and there were really busy) but worth the waiting. You should book if you don’t want to miss this!

Had the best big fat enormous veggie sausages ever here. I chose the veggie Cumberland but they had run out so I went for leek and Stilton. So glad I did - they were fantastic. Great plate of food. The gravy was a bit overpowering (very sweet and vinegary) but looked beautiful and I still enjoyed it.

Nice beers, I really liked the atmosphere and vibe here, staff super friendly! Their signature is bangers and mash (thats sausage n mashed potato for anyone outside the UK)... I can make better at home. It was quite nice, but if I can make it better at home, I'm not buying again. Go there and try it, I'm sure you'll enjoy. I'm just being super critical, probably.

I like the vibe of this pub. They were giving out free loafs of bread too. Random but I'll take a freebie for sure! The separate rooms are also a cool vibe if you want an area for you and your mates. Looks very grandiose on the outside. The venue upstairs is a very good little venue with alot of touring bands coming through.

I ended up at this pub due to a train cancellation and I was pleasantly surprised with the experience. The outside of the pub has really cool art work and the inside was super cozy. It’s a little small, so be weary at busier times. I was able to get a drink very easily. The bathroom was clean. They played great music and had very cute Halloween decorations all over. All in all I am very glad I got to visit.

Lovely spot, reasonably priced drinks and very friendly and helpful staff as well as a great live music scene. One of the more well known pubs in Brighton and for good reason, always a great atmosphere here and the regulars are sure to be welcoming to you too. Highly recommend

Gone from an auto 1 star to the 5 stars it deserves because they now have reusable plastic glasses rather than disposable ones! It's an excellent pub, probably my fav in Brighton. Good for bands and life and, while obviously not cheap (it's Brighton) it's not as stupidly expensive as some.

A rare thing in Brighton or anywhere else - a great gig venue that has a great beer selection. A few decent cask ales and one unusual cask cider. Staff are genuinely helpful & friendly. The gig space upstairs is small with good sound and views of the stage throughout. A gem of a place!

Came here with the dog and a friend had an exceptional lunch: Crab & peach salad to die for followed by sticky date pudding and butterscotch sauce wow definitely coming back for pork belly croquettes.....

We love this local pub and the new refurb has really made it really inviting and cosy inside! The menu here is absolutely excellent 👌 It's restaurant quality, has inventive small plates as well as high end pub classics, and the head chef is really friendly by checking back on tables himself out in the pub sometimes. It's a great vibe and a nice touch that the chef pops over to check you're happy with the food. The bavette steak and chips is great, and we've had the pheasant goujons and whitebait small plates twice in the last couple of weeks! Yum! The bar staff are really friendly too!

i had probably the best roast i have ever had here today. i have got coeliac disease, so i can’t eat gluten, and the staff & chef’s were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. i had an amazing, gluten free roast. highly recommend to anyone who can’t eat gluten!

Dropped in midweek for a bite to eat for half an hour or so. Had an awesome scotch egg and a Lucky Saint. Understandably quiet so no buzz, but I could easily get one of their many tables. A lovely pub I'd definitely visit again.

I had the chance to try the mid-week menu at The Exchange in Hove, and it was excellent. The food was flippin’ great – everything from the starters to dessert was spot on. The pub has a really welcoming, relaxed atmosphere, making it a perfect choice for a comfy mid-week dinner. The service was friendly, and I felt right at home. I’ll definitely be back!

Visited last night with my daughter for a light meal, we had the pork belly croquettes and the lamb kofta, small plates. Definitely the best lamb kofta I have ever eaten, beautifully tender meat and really tasty. Pork belly also fab. A nice glass of wine too. Lovely, friendly staff and good atmosphere, we will definitely go again. 😀

The Exchange is our go-to for the great atmosphere, banging food and lovely friendly staff. Perfect for Sundays with the doggos, a delicious roast and a pint of 3. Loads of great entertainment on most weekends and great food menu for the rest of the week too. It’s had a refurb recently and it’s looking great!

Been meaning to try Easy Tiger for ages and finally decided to go on a Sunday which meant it was a lot less busy than it normally is. Great calm atmosphere and delicious food. Portions slightly on the small side so some dishes feel like small plates even if they’re supposed to be mains, but it all tasted amazing, especially the fish curry.

I Went here randomly now it’s our go-to spot! The Kerala food is amazing, full of flavor and just so satisfying. The place has a chill, dark vibe that’s really cozy, and the staff are super friendly. Just a really good vibe overall. Definitely recommend if you’re into great food and a nice atmosphere!

We went for the Indian food, and it was absolutely great. The pork vindaloo was exactly as it should be, with a healthy vinegar kick. The lamb biriani was fragrant, warming and satisfying. The paneer dish was tasty, the sauce had a good balance of tomato and spicing. And don't forget the spicy fries with Sriracha dip, great for grazing... Chef Sabu is creating great food, and being able to have it in a pleasant pub is a bonus!

Waited over an hour for food and had at least 3 tables served before us. Got good beer recommendations from one of the bar staff though but wouldn't recommend. Updated to 3 stars and adding that staff did their best to make up for it after we let them know.

Disgraceful treatment by staff!! REFUSED WATER We were refused tap water by the bartender for no clear reason just told we “seemed rude.” The staff openly admitted they were withholding water on purpose because of how they perceived us. Let’s be clear: Even if we did seem rude which is subjective —that is not a legal reason to refuse/withhold free drinking water. Under UK licensing law, all licensed venues must provide water on request. This wasn’t a safety issue or drunkenness it was a power trip by staff who didn’t want to serve us because they didn’t like our vibe. We weren’t asking for alcohol. We were trying to do the right thing by looking after a drunk friend This statement is captured in the video we recorded, where she dismissively says, “no one seems that drunk to me they should see a bouncer.” That’s not how safety or customer care works. isn’t just unprofessional it’s dangerous! And I will be taking further action on the staff members. I’ve reported the venue to the council and included the pictures of staff and all video as evidence. If this is how they treat people trying to act responsibly, they don’t deserve a licence and for sure the jobs of the 2 ladies. These type of situations can lead to people potentially dying so this had to be taken very seriously to protect other people.

The Mash Tun is one of the most iconic pubs in Brighton. The atmosphere is wonderful and I’ve never had a bad time there. The staff are always so friendly, attentive and welcoming and you can tell they’re a big family there. They have DJs on from weds-Saturday. No better place to boogie.

This pub is actually incredible! Couldn’t believe it. Sunny aperol spritz that were so affordable in the day and then found out it opened till 3am and turned into a dance floor! One drink turned into …. You’ll be seeing us again mash tun!

I had the best night out for my birthday recently! It’s never a boring night at Mash, but they found out it was my birthday and gave me a round of mash bombs! Music and vibe are always great! But the team are what make this place!

Cool looking pub right next to the Brighton Dome. We popped in for a quick drink at the end of the day due to the interesting painting/mural on the outside. Inside it's a fairly typical pub, with a reasonable selection on tap. Unfortunately not a lot of choice for non alcoholic drinks, except soft drinks, and a small selection of non alcohol free drinks (I know, it is a pub, it's meant to be predominantly alcohol). Service was quick however and the music was the right vibe for the place. The main gripe is the toilets, flies everywhere and not particularly clean. I've been to a few pubs in Brighton and to be fair a lot of them are similar, so it's just one of those things you'll have to put up with.

Suzuki-San is the OG master. Such a legend of the industry. Huge selection of bottles at very reasonable prices. Despite being such a small bar, almost every time I’ve visited over the years, even on a random mid-week day, I’ve bumped into whisky people I know from all around the world. Tokyo has a lot of great whisky bars, but I always make time for Mash Tun and Aloha.

Came here on Friday for lunch of 6 for a celebration. We had reserved a table and were given a good spot with ample room. There is the option of QR codes or table service which worked out well as one party ordered the drinks on the app and then we ordered the food through our waiter (who was incredibly friendly and had great humour). Plenty of drink options including cocktails and the food has enough so there is something for everyone. I recommend the half chicken with sweet potato fries. All portions are huge and are so reasonable given this, and the location of the pub. Food and drinks came quickly and the pub was lovely. There is also outdoor seating if preferred. Great find in Brighton.

Stopped for a drink. I had been in here a few times in years gone past; it's central so a good meeting point at the start of an evening. Today's visit was fine but drinks were expensive and it was so cold inside - not something I can say I have ever complained about in a pub. Generally fine, but unremarkable. Brighton has a lot of other options.

The venue / vibe is great out on the street; but this was one of the worst points of Guinness I’ve had in a long time. Really bitter, something definitely wrong with either the barrel or the taps, didn’t even finish the pint.

The food was delicious. Rich and flavorful. Portions were generous. Nice little pub.

We booked a table for 10 of us to celebrate a birthday. There were no starters or coffee available and only ice cream for pudding, which we declined. Having said that, our mains were very good. The service was quick and the servers very nice and helpful. I wouldn't recommend this for an occasion such as a birthday, but for a general meal it was quite good as long as you are not expecting fine dining.

Joined a group of Welsh speaking friends for a get-together. First time we have used this pub. Nice long tables joined together. Staff are friendly and chatty; it wasn't too busy so they had time. Didn't have food but I started salivating when I saw what was being served to the next table! It looked good. Centrally located in the lanes and easily accessible from North Street buses.

One of my favourite pubs to visit when in Brighton. Great vibes, lots of selection of craft and the like. Friendly staff and reasonable pricing. Would recommend if in the area and also reading the latest CAMRA magazine which can be found next to the bar.

Brilliant place, great location. Fish and chips were nice! They do have an outdoor place to view matches, in indoor TVs as well. We really loved the vibe all around! The coastal view on the other side is all very worth it! Unfortunately for the pier you now have to pay £1 for the entry which is outrageous 🤮

Been there couple of times and every time they surprise me by the variety of beers. Great selection of cask, keg, craft beers & ciders, as well as veggie food options. Draught beers available included a variety of styles, with dark, stouts, porters, German weissbier as well as IPAs Really traditional pub environment but in a good way. Lovely atmosphere. Very handy for travel coz train station is just a min walk.friendly n attentive staff. So defo keep coming back while they serving good stuff.

Impeccable. Incredible beer selection. Fair prices and you can adjust beer to glass size based on strength. I was on the fence about food but it comes in from neighbouring Sri Lankan restaurant. Best calamari I’ve ever had! If I had to find a problem. My first pint of cask was under carbed. But a everything off keg was incredible. Staff recommended some other bars to visit too. Dog friendly by the way.

What an awesome pub, with just the most amazing rotating beer selection. Loads of well kept cask beer, lots of stunning keg options and a well stocked fridge of special beers for sharing. Will most definitely be heading back here again, in fact its given me a reason to want to go to Brighton more often to have the chance to drink here again.

Had an amazing night in the function room for my birthday. Staff are lovely and It was so accommodating, we were able to bring our own sound system and had our own bar for the evening. Lots of fun in a great space!!! Thankyou so much

Great little pub in the centre of Brighton, great to stop off after shopping or on the way home from work. Very helpful and friendly staff, they made me most welcome on my birthday recently 😊 Nice live music sometimes and there's a great little terrace in warmer months. It's a Laine's pub also so they have the handy Pubbl loyalty app. Definitely recommended.

Had a fantastic Sunday lunch today. The roast beef was cooked to perfection, and the Yorkshire pudding was light and crispy, and happy to see that is made by NOSTOS.The bar staff were friendly and attentive, making for a truly enjoyable experience, will be back soon!!
