La Viña del Ensanche, located in Bilbao's vibrant Ensanche neighborhood, offers a taste of traditional Basque cuisine in a charming and cozy setting. This classic pintxos bar serves up specialties like acorn-fed Iberian ham on toasted bread, accompanied by draft beer or affordable wines. The wood-paneled dining room has retained its original charm since opening in 1927. Guests can also enjoy a seven-dish tasting menu and browse the on-site store selling local produce.
Amazing food with great service and outdoor seating options. All the food was super delicious and last but not least, the cheesecake was worth a try itself. Highly recommended if you are in Bilbao.

Hi, I have been there multiples during the month and half I have been in Bilbao. It's true that sometimes the waiters looks very overworked and sometimes overwhelmed but I never had a bad service from them. When they were understanding what I was saying. They use a Spanish menu to see what I wanted. They have always been very nice and as thoughtful as they could. For me it was my favorite restaurant so far in Bilbao and I would love to thanks the owner and the staff for the great service and food. Please note that I rarely give 5 stars. I'm just sad that the restaurant closed for renovation for the rest of the summer. One suggestion if anyone from the restaurant do see my comment. Please add an easy way to book table. I know there's always a lot of people and sometimes it's very hard to get a table there.
William Y — Google review
Absolutely loved this place. For dinner or for a quick tapa and drink. We went here twice, once on our first night and again on our last night in Bilbao. We went the second time because on our first night, we sat down and ordered from the menu. While we were eating and drinking and people watching, we noticed that everyone seemed to be getting a couple of different tapas that were not on the sit down menu (there is a big screen behind the bar with the tapa menu - which you can order when seated, no problem). The meals were not expensive, bottles of wine are totally reasonable. Good vermouth and their house made sweet wine (if that is your thing with dessert) was also excellent. The prices were the same at the bar or seated, so you can do what you want. To get a table, especially if it is busy, you need to ask the waiter who you will see running around busily. On our first night we saw people try to swoop in and take a table right when it opened up - typical bar rules - but the waiter would wave them off or ask them to get up. He had a running list of who was waiting for a table in his head (along with everyone's food and drink orders - I honestly don't know how they do it). When we came in our last night at a very not busy time - 5:30pm ish - we saw people just grab tables and the waiter didn't mind, so I think that must be just when it is busy, so it doesn't turn into a free-for-all in there. I highly recommend from the tapas menu: the foie with egg and mushroom, the beef cheeks, their fish and chips with aioli. And from the sit down menu (keep in mind, everything we tried was good): the octopus, the croquettes with aioli, their cheesecake. Ask for a recommendation for a bottle of wine if that is your thing - the one our waiter recommended was glorious.

An absolute treat for our wedding anniversary, we had the tasting menu and a delicious local red wine, followed by coffee and orujo. The restaurant is beautiful inside. We felt we were exclusive guests in a wine cave, being served delicious and tasty food, every course a new flavour and sensation. The service was friendly, welcoming, professional and unrushed. The young staff are well trained and confident, so we felt relaxed and cared for. We would go again in a heart beat and totally recommend for anyone wanting a romantic place to propose or celebrate their wedding anniversary. Thank you for making our day extra special.
Lighthouse C — Google review
Set in a casual square teaming with people enjoying drinks under the sun, the vibe was casual. The food however was anything but. The foie gras, on a bed of potato puree and nestled between soft mushrooms and a runny egg was the perfect mix of mouthwatering goodness that needed to be swept clean with crusty bread. The asparagus in tempura batter was crispy and tasty as expected. However the fired artichokes in almond creamy proved to be a creamy and salty bridge too far as it was a little too overpowering after a while. But by service was fast and efficient and we did enjoy the food and vibes.

Great place for a nice dinner. Tried the tasting menu and recommend it. You get a good selection of different types of basq food. You will leave full and happy!

The Best meal we had in our one month trip to Spain and France so far. We stopped there as we were hungry for lunch and they had space for 2 for one hour. We took the 6 course a degustation menú and averything was absolutely tasty and delicious from start to dessert. Can’t believe we ate all this in an hour, but everything was so good. And the service was top notch. Would love to live in Bilbao just to eat at La Viña del Ensanche

El Globo tavern is a charming restaurant with a warm and cozy ambiance, featuring a low-lit, wood-clad dining room and a fairly large terrace space outside. The shiny bar-top offers an impressive selection of classic pintxos that tempt both locals and visitors. The place is known for its exquisite gratineed spider crab and other mini creations like marinated salmon, black pudding crusted with peanuts, and ruby red grilled tuna. The bar is always buzzing with people enjoying the delightful atmosphere.
Been here a couple times and like the pintxos, ensalada de mariscos y gambas my favorite. Although there is no seating, outside there is an area u can sit and enjoy ur food and drink.
T Z — Google review
A bit of a disappointment as all 3 of the pintxos I had were pretty unremarkable. The fried baby squid was the best but, still, nothing special. The broiled bacalao pintxos was creamy and pretty tasteless. Service was fine, but there's no inside seating and the place is just not pleasant in general (the terrace does seem nice).
Sergio B — Google review
This is a well-known local tapas bar, and you can tell it's very popular — even on Monday afternoon it was quite busy. I ordered two pintxos, but since I was sitting in the outdoor area, I had to order a main dish as well. I chose the grilled prawns with salt and a glass of Txakoli. The food was pretty good, about average for the area, but the prices were a bit higher compared to other tapas bars I've been to.
Penny — Google review
Good pintxos bar with seating options outside and a few inside. The pintxos were quite good, albeit a little more on the pricy side. Overall a good experience!
Johannes R — Google review
Recommended by a local who lives close to this place I decided to try it. If you want to sit in their small patio you have to order from the menu which is mainly full sized meals. I was told that if I wanted Pintxos or drinks I have to order at the bar. I sat down and ordered the set menu. Starter is three Pintxos followed by very well cooked tuna (no fishy smell or taste at all) and Foie gras and to finish a chocolate lava cake for desert. The server was very friendly and helpful.
Tom C — Google review
Good pintxos, they do rely on cream/béchamel quite a bit. When we went it was completely packed , lots of people passing by and bumping into you, which it’s not my favorite way to enjoy a meal and subtracted from the experience a bit. But if you don’t mind that , this will probably be one of your favorite places in Bilbao.
Alfonso A — Google review
We got the pintxos menu, and extra zamburiña and hueleva prawn portions. Food was ok but nothing was great and none really stood out, food wasn’t as well balanced as we liked.
Giovanny B — Google review
They offer a variety of pintxos with inventive flavor combinations. I highly recommend the vaca madura con trufa and chipirón gratinado. There is plenty of room for eating inside the restaurant; you can choose to stand at the bar or eat at bistro tables.

La Camelia Vegan Bar is a stylish and minimalist space located on Villarias Street, offering a 100% vegan menu with high-quality dishes. The restaurant serves a variety of options including vegan sushi, homemade hummus, miso soup, vegetable cream, vegan burgers, green juices, and desserts like carrot cakes. Additionally, they offer a take-away or delivery service with eco-friendly packaging. The bar features whitewashed brick walls and shelves stocked with ecological wines and beers.
Fantastic vegan food but the staff was a bit overworked! Our visit was lovely but the waitress (and cook) had to do a million things, I didn't mind waiting more and the seating outside is lovely, but I was stressed for them! It felt like they needed more hands. Additionally, the temperature inside was too high for me, although outside it was perfect. Get a reservation if you want a table outside! Try the sushi if you can, it's fantastic, very creative! I loved the pitas and their spread too

We had the trio of dips, salad, and potatoes. Everything was so delicious that we came back a second day and had the dips and salads plus carrot cake. The service was friendly and we enjoyed the outdoor seating very much. You have to order at the counter and then they bring your food. Highly recommend!!

Amazing Vegan food. Superb service and friendly staff. I can't recommend enough. Visiting from the UK and will definitely come again while here. Go for the 3 dip Selection and house burger and you wont be disappointed. Prices are very reasonable too.

Good location and menu. The macaroni ‘cheese’ was a good bowl of comfort food and baked aubergine tasty but needing a sauce. Delicious maki with tasty fillings and a pleasant atmosphere. Glad to see them serving Yogi Teas.

This place was incredible!! I only wish I got to visit it more during my stay in Bilbao. The food was delicious, and I also recommend the lemonade and the ginger drink, and trying the brownie. The staff is lovely and welcoming, the location is great and it’s really nice inside. We really enjoyed what we had here.

ETXANOBE is a fine-dining restaurant located on the top floor of the Palacio Euskalduna de Bilbao, offering a tasting menu of beautifully plated meat and fish dishes with wine pairings. The one Michelin star establishment focuses on traditional Basque cooking but stands out for its creative presentation, serving dishes like works of art placed inside hollowed-out stones or sea shells.
Extanobe delivers an exceptional dining experience. The food is a clear 10/10, with beautifully crafted dishes and impressive vegan options from the à la carte menu. I had the best dessert I’ve ever tasted — absolutely unforgettable. We came a bit early at 7:30 when it was still quiet, so I’d recommend booking later. The wine selection is also excellent — well worth it.

Had a wonderful time at the restaurant with top and pleasant service, unique and high quality dishes and enjoyable atmosphere. This was a great and memorable choice for a fine dinning at Bilbao.
Rom — Google review
We quiet loved it for our first experience. But today wasnt ok. The middle of the sea bass was raw, dessert was nothing special and a bit dry. I was offered whatever I want, but just wanted a matching experience. I was alone and ordered a bottle of wine apart of the menu (no gesture on that hand), the bill was 100eur wrong and it took 15min to be corrected, so long that I missed my driver and was charged for it. Unfortunately not a good experience tonight.
Goji B — Google review
Visited two times. The first time à la carte, the second time we took the tasting menu. The à la carte experience was great. For the tasting menu, the quality was generally high, however two things were standing out: 1. The wine pairing for the tasting menu consisted of two full bottles of wine (we were only two people) instead of individual glass pairings per dish. The fact that two whole bottles would be served was not stated in the menu, and it was not made clear in any way. Otherwise we would opt out. 2. The meat dish was plain bad, both in consistency, taste, and the doneness (we ordered medium rare but got very blue rare). Hence, one full star off. However, all fish and seafood dishes we’ve gotten over the course of the two visits were great - clearly their specialty.
Marina — Google review
Not too much to add. Great food, great service. The owner/chef visited our table twice, we were there for lunch. The hake was a little salty in my opinion. Other than that everything we had was delicious. We tried snails as well, not everyone’s cup tea.

Booked on Spec and what a surprise..good one. Had an amazing experience. Went for the tasting menu with accompanied wines and couldn't fault with anything. Staff were so attentive and so friendly and really appreciated that you liked the food. Just a great experience and would highly recommend if you are in Bilbao. Had a wonderful night

Bascook is a charming restaurant located in a former salt warehouse, with warm stone walls providing a cozy backdrop. The menu, curated by local chef Aitor Elizegi and executed by Alvaro Gomez, offers inventive and modern Basque dishes. Divided into sections for vegetables, fusion food, and local cuisine, the offerings include falafel with salmorejo soup, maki with anchovies and cod, as well as confit salt cod with cauliflower pil pil sauce.
Stumbled into Bascook on a sizzling hot day… and I swear it felt like an oasis (with much better food 😏). From the very first bite to the last sip, everything was simply spectacular. The flavors were bold, the service was warm, and the atmosphere had just the right touch of laid-back charm. Honestly, it wasn’t just a meal — it was an experience. The kind that makes you smile long after you’ve left the table. Highly recommend if you’re looking for something delicious, memorable, and perfectly refreshing on a scorching day. Just be warned: you may not want to leave. 😉
Alena S — Google review
Overall OK but expected a little better based on the overall rating and some previous reviews. We went for the Harri menu, each course arrived swiftly and we'd have appreciated the pace to be a little slower, the starting sharing courses were all good; maki, omelette foam and grilled prawns (seafood of the day). Next course of tuna tataki, the tuna itself was good but accompaniments not to our liking - crisps and a tartare sauce that was too much mayo. Next course of iberican pork was the biggest disappointment - probably one of the driest pieces of pork I've experienced and would have shared that feedback had we been asked at the time. Desserts - passion fruit cheesecake was good and a nice size after the previous courses, French toast is substantial so ensure you've left enough room. Atmosphere is modern and spacious, quiet early on in the evening but busier later which it needed.
Graham K — Google review
Interesting fusion between basque ingredients and Asian techniques. Pretty unique, but you have to like it. The start was with a small cabbage hummus, served while waiting for your order. We then got a Cappuccino of Cod to share, 8 makies with a chili pepper and rice base and cod-fish cream on top. Pretty complex taste, but good. We then had a local grilled beef, very well cooked and tasty, a grilled pigeon with its stuffed gyozas/ravioli, very tasty even if it requires to combine in a proper way the meat, the gyoza and the sauce. Last main dish was a ramen seafood based, with noodles. Very intense taste. To end we order two desserts, the mojito ice cream, served with caramelized orange skin and the French toast with dulce de leche. Both very sophisticated and tasty, the first to prefer if you like a bitter taste, the second if you like a sweet option. The venue is very elegant and cozy, with a very nice playlist accompaining the dinner. Staff was very attentive and nice. Recommended to try, but not expecting a pure basque restaurant.

We had originally booked to go to Eneko Basque, however, after arriving and being ignored for 20 minutes (not even acknowledged or seated) we decided to try Bascook instead. Even though we didn't have a reservation they couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. We chose the Menu Gatz, and were really impressed. All of the dishes were perfect and we enjoyed trying each of them. The wine was also great. The service was exceptional - it wasn't pretentious or over the top and the whole experience felt relaxed. I recommend!

Amazing lunch, exceptional value for such high quality food and service. Highly recommended. We came as a result of a recommendation from a Spanish friend. We didn’t have a reservation but luckily they had a table for us. Ordered from the set menu which was delicious and very filling. Wine was also top notch.
Kirendip C — Google review
Great lunch time deal with a choice of 2 plates (no difference between starter or main course), plus dessert and a glass of wine or beer for 32 Euros.. Nice friendly staff, great venue. Mussels in a fantastic sauce, steak tartare was very tasty but too smooth texture, special of burger was nice but could have been better seasoned, salt cod nice. All followed by their fantastic chocolate dessert.

Tasty Basque food with modern spin through Asian and Mexican influences. Cocktails also very nice!

Had high expectations for this place, but it fell short on every aspect. The staff makes you feel rushed and every dish had an issue... (cold, not fully cooked, etc). Does not compare to its sister place, The Basquery, which is a 10/10

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Bilbao, Ágape jatetxea is a culinary gem that beautifully marries international flavors with local Basque cuisine. The restaurant boasts a sleek and modern ambiance, characterized by stark walls adorned with striking red accents. Renowned for its exceptional value, Ágape's daily set menu has garnered acclaim as one of the best in Spain, making it an ideal spot for those eager to explore authentic Bilbao food culture without breaking the bank.
My partner and I came here for lunch on a Monday and it was excellent! The daily set menu had lots of options and everything we had was delicious! The set menu was €18 each and included bread, a starter, a main, a dessert, and a wine (though we swapped for a soft drink). For the amount and quality, this was great value! It’s popular so we recommend booking or arriving at the start of service. For starters we had scrambled eggs with a bolognaise sauce and a creamy tomato and lamb risotto. For mains we had a tube steak with squid ink couscous and beef schnitzel with a tomato, spinach and onion sauce topped with blue cheese. For dessert we had a no-bake cheese cake and a yoghurt with mango sauce (they also offered a baked cheese cake, tiramisu, rice pudding, a type of custard, and something else we didn’t catch). We were so full by the time it got to dessert so this is a great place to come on an empty stomach!

Was walking by on the street and it called to me. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating, despite the fact that I didn’t have a reservation. I truly cannot recommend Agape enough! The menu of the day has the best value for money of any place I have been so far in this area, especially since the portion sizes are very generous. I ordered the squid rice, tuna with mushrooms and cheesecake for dessert. The tuna was my favourite but all were delicious and arrived soon after ordering. The staff were also incredibly friendly and accommodating. If you are looking for a great restaurant that won’t break the bank, you must visit!

Amazing experience, we booked earlier in the day, owner (or manager) spoke excellent english and all the staff were lovely. we got the set menu at very reasonable price, and we liked that it still had a few options for entree main and dessert. delicious fresh food with large portion sizes.

This was an amazing place, the host was incredibly polite, gave us extra desert, the portions were very generous. We had the set menu and the quality of everything was amazing, value for money was extraordinary. They have a lovely selection of wines as well. While not exclusively vegan, it offers a specialized menu focused on healthy dishes such as salads, soups, and vegetable lasagna. The restaurant is particularly popular for its weekend brunch menu, which features creatively crafted American-style dishes.

Food was very strange. Service was meh. We did like the ambiance. We each got the menu of the day and our 20 year old could barely eat what they ordered and they are not a picky eater. We’ve eaten around the world and the flavor combos just didn’t work.

Restaurante Sua San in Bilbao offers a cozy, modern dining experience with a focus on healthy, flavorful cuisine. Located across from the Guggenheim Museum, it’s ideal for breakfast, brunch, or a relaxed dinner. The menu features dishes like Eggs Benedict, vegetable lasagna, and quinoa salads, catering to various dietary preferences. While service is generally good, however, reservations are recommended during peak hours.

Would eat here again. Had the medium portion of the rucupavo salad and substituted the turkey for avocado & chickpeas. Friend had the avocado salad and added chicken. Fresh ingredients, good portion & well dressed. Didn’t try the smoothies or pastries but all looked very appetizing.

The place itself has a very nice location near the museum. I had a sirloin steak that was very tasty but the fries that came with it were soggy. Mozzarella salad we ordered had way too much sweet sauce on it, but that's typical of Spain. My girlfriend ordered the vegetable lasagna, which was completely inedible. I won't even try to describe what it was. I wouldn't come back. I should add in fairness, they took the lasagna off the bill. At least that's something.

Came for brunch; however, saw the bar with pintxos and decided to try! Delicious!!! Muy muy rico!

The salad was missing the nuts. The atmosphere very disappointing and very bad service when it comes to payment. Didn't let me split the bill or let me pay partially with cash. Also they sell refilled still water as new. Won't come back.

Excellent choice to try this restaurant when we walked by and thought "this looks inviting"! Staff is friendly, a bit hectic at times but nothing what could dampen the experience. The atmosphere is stunning, well decorated and interesting. Food choice is stunning and all the plates in our 6 people group were well presented and yummy! Thumbs up for this lovely place.

Rio-Oja Restaurant is a long-standing, family-run dining room in the center of Bilbao's Siete Calles. It offers traditional Basque casseroles, meat and fish dishes, showcasing the region's culinary excitement. The restaurant serves homemade stews on the bar, replacing pintxos with options like lamb, beef, rabbit or fish stews served with rustic bread. Additionally, clams in green sauce and paella are available for those seeking a lighter bite.
Everybody told us to go here and we gave in into our third day here. However, we stopped by for a late lunch-early dinner around 4. This was the perfect timing for us. We got a good seat, the food was really good and the service was fast. After 5 it started to get busy and the impatient guests waiting made us feel we had to leave. However, the waiter was never fazed, offered us a coffee and chatted with us. The interior is also really a nice detail. Would recommend, but avoid the busy times

Wouldn’t recommend. All of the tapas in front of you are microwaved. Mussels were horrible. They are in a very bland smoky tomato sauce. I didn’t finish them and that’s saying a lot. Ordered the grilled lamb and it was extremely fatty, more than half was inedible and plate looked like a mess. Conveniently a Spanish couple order grilled lamb chops next to me and they were perfect pieces and the plate actually looked appealing. I tried to order the sea bass and they only had 25€ portions left .The couple on the other side somehow managed to order a small sea bass well after I tired to order one. Pretty sure I was treated poorly for not being Spanish. Only thing that was actually good was the cheese cake

I love snails. I mean, I really love snails. These were seriously the best snails 🐌 I’ve ever had. They were stewed in an amazing spicy and sweet and thick red sauce with large chunks of spicy peppers and stewed meat. Truly something special.

Great food in a really busy, fast-paced bar-resto. The menu is relatively simple but with lots of choice and the wine is, of course, delicious and very good value. Great service and great amusement watching some people struggling with the piparras, which I had 3 sets of. This is a great place. The rabbit and soup were also superb.

Absolutely fabulous! Bustling restaurant / bar with traditional Spanish cuisine. Super friendly service & delicious inexpensive food & wine. Standouts were the croquetas, braised rabbit and grilled pimientos padron

Nerua Guggenheim Bilbao is an upscale restaurant located at the heart of Bilbao's renowned Guggenheim Museum. Led by talented chef Josean Alija, this ultra-modern establishment offers innovative haute cuisine and a pronounced effort to guide diners through a culinary journey. The restaurant's seasonal menu prioritizes fresh ingredients, with a focus on vegetables and seafood, complemented by carefully curated wine pairings.
The restaurant is at the Guggenheim. The dining room seats about 8 tables with a motif reminiscent of the Guggenheim itself. The staff are very friendly and attentive, keeping the pace of service up at all tables. We had the 8 course tasting menu with matching wine. The menu is centered in Basque cuisine, and a variety of fish. All the dishes were delicious. The hors d'oeuvres featured two croquettes that we tempura fried, and unlike many croquettes one finds, you could actually tell the protein you were eating. A highlight was the tuna in a sauce that was both acidic with a touch of sweetness and was divine with the tuna steak. Another highlight was the last savoury dish - pork belly with mushroom and pickled carrots. The pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth tender and delicious. Wine pairings matched very well with the dishes and highlighted a number of very nice Spanish and Basque white wines, that we look forward to exploring more. The washrooms were spotless, and even had complimentary toothbrushes and toothpaste - a first in my experience. The chef made a couple of appearances to observe how service was going. As a final touch when leaving the kitchen staff gave a shout out as guests left. Excellent dining experience.
Doug D — Google review
I recently dined at Nerua Guggenheim, and while the experience was pleasant, it didn't quite live up to the "creative" label it's been given on the Michelin website. Every dish I tried was good, but nothing really stood out as innovative or unique. Felt like a bit overrated in my opinion. The tomatoes were a fresh and promising start, one of the highlights of the meal. The anchovy was just okay—honestly, it felt like something I could have easily found at one of the local pintxo bars. The spinach dish was rather ordinary; the almond and anchovy flavors were lost in a too-liquid texture beneath the spinach leaf. The cod was tasty but, again, lacked creativity. The bonito was well-prepared and, along with the tomatoes, one of the better dishes. The seabass? I’ve had similar at home, so nothing special there. The pork belly was decent, but not remarkable. Unfortunately, the dessert—a sweet pear—was a disappointing finish. I was hoping for a refreshing burst of mint and lime, but it just didn’t deliver. Overall, the meal was okay, but given the Michelin star and the "creative" label, I expected more. It was a decent experience, but not one I'd go out of my way to repeat.
Atakan — Google review
Dining at Nerua Guggenheim Bilbao was still a special opportunity — having a 10-course menu for €110 inside the beautiful Guggenheim Museum was memorable. The food was not bad, but overall it felt a bit simple. Most dishes tasted quite ordinary. I felt the food could have been more elaborate and refined. However, I particularly enjoyed the spinach dish and the dish with squid ink, which stood out among the courses. The desserts were also underwhelming, and I wish they had been more creative and carefully developed. Unfortunately, the service was poor. The staff often couldn’t answer basic questions, either due to limited English or lack of menu knowledge. Usually at fine dining restaurants, the problem is that the pacing between dishes can be too slow — but here, it was the opposite. The courses came out so quickly that I felt rushed and almost uncomfortably full before I had even finished the previous dishes. My plate was even taken while my friend was still eating, which made the experience even more awkward. When I asked about the tea options, they simply brought green tea without offering any choice. At the end of the meal, I shared my feedback, but the staff gave no response. I’m not sure whether they didn’t understand or simply didn’t want to confront any criticism. I didn’t expect perfection from a one-Michelin-star restaurant, but overall, it was not a pleasant experience.
Byoungsung S — Google review
Nerua is undeniably elegant—minimalist design, beautiful atmosphere, right next to the Guggenheim, and the food is light and refined. Perfect, that is, until reality bites—literally. During a birthday dinner, I bit into a fish and found a hard, white plastic pellet about 3 mm in diameter. We informed the server immediately. She took it to the kitchen and… that was it. No explanation, no apology, no acknowledgment—just a silent nod as if nothing happened. Only after I asked post-payment did we hear the baffling explanation: apparently, fish sometimes eat plastic in the ocean, and it stays in their flesh. How comforting. I get it—ocean pollution is tragic. But in any other Michelin-starred restaurant, discovering plastic in your dish would merit at least a sincere apology, or some form of acknowledgment. Not this awkward, hands-off shrug until the guest chases answers. In short: the food and space are still nice, but the dismissive service and lack of care made a special occasion feel like a bad joke.
Qi X — Google review
Worst 1 michelin star restaurant i have ever been to, honestly was so upset about the quality of food being served up, it was worse than the food served in the bistro in the same museum. Every dish was excruciatingly sour, bitter or salty. The scallop omelette was so salty I winced. The bonito was so sour that every bite resulted in pinpricks in my tongue. Another dish with this strange parsley sauce was so bitter I had to sip lots of water. Not sure if they were playing a practical joke on me. I couldn’t bring myself to even finish a few dishes. The dessert was so stodgy and bland. I was incredibly disappointed given that it was the last dinner of my trip to San Sebastian and I had booked this months in advance. No matter how many times we tried to wave a waiter over to pay for the bill, we were flat out ignored, even though we were rushing out to catch the fireworks show. I had a much more delicious and better value one michelin star experience at another restaurant in Bilbao called Mina and only wished I made a second booking there, instead of being ridiculously angry at the food. None of the waiters or waitresses even bothered to check in about the taste of the food even when I clearly didn’t touch more than half of my fish. My conclusion is that this restaurant does not deserve a michelin star, or it needs a new chef to set things straight! Because how can you have a tasting menu that is so lacklustre and at times odious from start to end - that is simply baffling!
Ayley T — Google review
Wonderful experience, you can choose a la carte or the tasting menu. We took the menu with the wine pairing. Highly recommended. The restaurant is not cozy - very white and minimalistic but it works.
Jonas R — Google review
Interior perhaps too minimalistic for my taste, but more then compensated by service and quality of food and wine.
Vanessa H — Google review
Really didn’t understand the contrasted ratings for Nerua. We loved the experience and the food was amazing. The chef and the team were attentive. Love being at the chef table looking at how they plated and the process how they created the dishes. Superb cleanliness and organisation. Didn’t feel rushed and didn’t feel too overly posh. It was a fabulous meal from that may not look decorated enough for standard perspectives of a Michelin-star restaurant but they were packed with flavours and interesting combinations. I love that Tomato salad and the marinated seaweed sea bass. I think some people just need to calm down, keep an open mind and let yourself to be immersed into what Nerua can offer, beautifully crafted food. Don’t expect and you will get the unexpected.

Amazing place for paella and great value , but other main dishes are ok in my opinion. Many locals were in the restaurant when we visit. The service is ok, the food came faster than I thought.

During my stay in the wondrous city of Bilbao, I planned on having a meal at Larruzz. I identified this restaurant by researching on Google Maps. The reviews were good, so I thought I'm going there! I didn't make a reservation before my visit, but luckily I was able to get a table. The staff who served me were very friendly and helpful. The service I received was excellent. I ordered 3 dishes. A really tasty starter. The main course of crayfish and prawn paella 🥘 was so tasty. I had a lemon 🍋 sorbet to cleanse my palate after I finished my main course plus a double espresso to keep me awake ⏰️. I was expecting a bill over €60 as I didn't look at the prices, but I was shocked when it was only €43 including a beer too! That's such good value for such a nice restaurant right by the river. The restaurant is well appointed too, and the decor top notch. I'd say, if you enjoy good food at reasonable pricing, then pay Larruzz a visit if you are in Bilbao, you won't be disappointed. 🙂

1/5 — Very Disappointing Experience We were required to have a reservation, but when we arrived, the restaurant was completely empty — and remained that way throughout our visit. The menu was confusing, and although our server attempted to explain it, they did so in a way that lacked professionalism and completely disregarded personal space. After placing our order, we waited an hour for our food. Unfortunately, it wasn’t worth the wait. The paella was bitter, the mussels had sand in them, and the small pasta dish tasted anything but fresh. This place presents itself as a high-quality restaurant, but the reality was far from it. Definitely not worth the hype or the price

Fantastic! The tuna avocado tartare with crostini, and the scallops in garlic (served in shell) were both amazing. The tuna was mixed with chunks of avocado held together with a mild soya-based sauce, and the scallops were small but so flavourful - salted, herb and garlic. With bread, oil and vinegar, some sangria and my friend’s duck pâté, we were done for the evening at 4pm. Our server Rakel was lovely, attentive, and helpful. We’ll be back.

Make sure that you have a booking before you go. Food variety was OK and portions were good. I had seafood paella and it was nice. The only annoying thing is instead of writing the full price of paella for two people writing per person price and adding "Min. 2 persons"😐

Beautiful restaurant for paella lover. Service is warm and dessert is good also.
Amy B — Google review
Main problem with this place is poor service. We've waited for the bill for 15 minutes, which is inexcusable because we asked for it three times. Restaurant was half-empty, so it wasn't a matter of it being crowded. The food is decent. I recommend making a reservation, because even though restaurant is huge and many tables are not occupied, they won't let you in without one.

Great place for a good and tasty “Menu del día”. The staff is so friendly and makes you feel quite welcomed from the moment you’re there. But the star of this place is the food, so tasty, a combination of local and Spanish cuisine. The starter, entree and dessert plus bread and wine/water for 14€ is quite a deal but you can also order directly from their menu. A 100% recommended for anyone, whether you’re a solo traveler or a big group of friends.

There is a nice area at the back to work with reggae music that also allows for conversation. The place is clean and that is appreciated. Very good sandwiches and pastries.
