Tapas restaurant
Tapas bar
Gure Toki is a modern, industrial-chic restaurant in Bilbao that offers contemporary Basque cuisine and tapas along with regional wines. The restaurant is known for its crab tempura, salty cod, and tangy goat's cheese in manzanilla sherry. Most of the ingredients used at Gure Toki come from Mercado de la Ribera, which has been a central part of Bilbao's food scene since 1929.
Top notch Tapas. Everything here was quite tasty. Their prices were fair and they had lots of delicious things to choose from. Staff were friendly. Their wine selection was nice. Overall this is a great place to check out and get a tasty treat while enjoying some refreshing wine.
Coach T — Google review
The Basque cheesecake and “cheese soup” were spectacular, though the rest disappointed. Make sure to visit during lunch or dinner hours, as the kitchen closes during the afternoons. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The third best cheesecake of my life after La Viña in San Sebastián and JonCake in Barcelona. Cheesy, creamy, sweet, with a caramelized sugar top and crumbles on the side. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The “cheese soup” was recommended to me by the manager as their house speciality. It did not disappoint; one of the best pintxos I tasted during one week in Basque Country. ⭐️ I love salty food but the salmon empanada was so salty I couldn’t finish it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ The duck empanada was tasty and well balanced, even though the duck was a bit dry. ⭐️ The soft shell crab tempura was also inedible because it was way, way too salty. Disappointing because soft shell crab is something I always order when it’s on a menu. ⭐️⭐️ The calamari sandwich looked better than it tasted.

Great pintxos, a must try when in Bilbao! Located at very historic Plaza Nueva. Their homestyle burger was one of the best we had!
Alkistis B — Google review
Had lunchtime pinxtos here while sitting on the lovely terrace. Great selection and all the ones we tried were delicious. My favourite was the jamon, cheese, potato and egg, a little work of art! Nice selection of wines, I tried the godello and was a great choice. We also had the basque cheesecake, it was fantastic.
Margaret O — Google review
Very nice establishment. Good food and drink at reasonable prices. Mainly ordered pintxos and tapas. Nice staff, not rushed. We had a table inside, didn’t realize there was outside seating. Worth a visit either way.
Jamie H — Google review
Second review: Wow! We went back in the evening, curious to see, if there were different pintxos. And boy, oh boy, we were not disappointed! The goat cheese one, the ham and mushroom one and the cheeseburger halves were amazing! Super friendly service as well. 5/5! First review: Good pintxos that are not served at 10am. You should get here a little later. One pincho was spectacular, one good and one alright. 4/5

The food was soooo good! I had the cheese food and some other fish based pintxos and they were amazing. The cheesecake was one of the best I've had in Bilbao, so creamy. Definitely recommend
Raluca A — Google review
The soft shell crab is an absolute must-try! If it’s not on display, ask when it’ll be served - we were told 8 p.m. when we visited. The Basque cheesecake was also incredible and not to be missed.

La Viña del Ensanche, located in Bilbao's vibrant Ensanche neighborhood, offers a taste of traditional Basque cuisine in a charming and cozy setting. This classic pintxos bar serves up specialties like acorn-fed Iberian ham on toasted bread, accompanied by draft beer or affordable wines. The wood-paneled dining room has retained its original charm since opening in 1927. Guests can also enjoy a seven-dish tasting menu and browse the on-site store selling local produce.
Amazing food with great service and outdoor seating options. All the food was super delicious and last but not least, the cheesecake was worth a try itself. Highly recommended if you are in Bilbao.

Hi, I have been there multiples during the month and half I have been in Bilbao. It's true that sometimes the waiters looks very overworked and sometimes overwhelmed but I never had a bad service from them. When they were understanding what I was saying. They use a Spanish menu to see what I wanted. They have always been very nice and as thoughtful as they could. For me it was my favorite restaurant so far in Bilbao and I would love to thanks the owner and the staff for the great service and food. Please note that I rarely give 5 stars. I'm just sad that the restaurant closed for renovation for the rest of the summer. One suggestion if anyone from the restaurant do see my comment. Please add an easy way to book table. I know there's always a lot of people and sometimes it's very hard to get a table there.
William Y — Google review
Absolutely loved this place. For dinner or for a quick tapa and drink. We went here twice, once on our first night and again on our last night in Bilbao. We went the second time because on our first night, we sat down and ordered from the menu. While we were eating and drinking and people watching, we noticed that everyone seemed to be getting a couple of different tapas that were not on the sit down menu (there is a big screen behind the bar with the tapa menu - which you can order when seated, no problem). The meals were not expensive, bottles of wine are totally reasonable. Good vermouth and their house made sweet wine (if that is your thing with dessert) was also excellent. The prices were the same at the bar or seated, so you can do what you want. To get a table, especially if it is busy, you need to ask the waiter who you will see running around busily. On our first night we saw people try to swoop in and take a table right when it opened up - typical bar rules - but the waiter would wave them off or ask them to get up. He had a running list of who was waiting for a table in his head (along with everyone's food and drink orders - I honestly don't know how they do it). When we came in our last night at a very not busy time - 5:30pm ish - we saw people just grab tables and the waiter didn't mind, so I think that must be just when it is busy, so it doesn't turn into a free-for-all in there. I highly recommend from the tapas menu: the foie with egg and mushroom, the beef cheeks, their fish and chips with aioli. And from the sit down menu (keep in mind, everything we tried was good): the octopus, the croquettes with aioli, their cheesecake. Ask for a recommendation for a bottle of wine if that is your thing - the one our waiter recommended was glorious.

An absolute treat for our wedding anniversary, we had the tasting menu and a delicious local red wine, followed by coffee and orujo. The restaurant is beautiful inside. We felt we were exclusive guests in a wine cave, being served delicious and tasty food, every course a new flavour and sensation. The service was friendly, welcoming, professional and unrushed. The young staff are well trained and confident, so we felt relaxed and cared for. We would go again in a heart beat and totally recommend for anyone wanting a romantic place to propose or celebrate their wedding anniversary. Thank you for making our day extra special.
Lighthouse C — Google review
Set in a casual square teaming with people enjoying drinks under the sun, the vibe was casual. The food however was anything but. The foie gras, on a bed of potato puree and nestled between soft mushrooms and a runny egg was the perfect mix of mouthwatering goodness that needed to be swept clean with crusty bread. The asparagus in tempura batter was crispy and tasty as expected. However the fired artichokes in almond creamy proved to be a creamy and salty bridge too far as it was a little too overpowering after a while. But by service was fast and efficient and we did enjoy the food and vibes.

Great place for a nice dinner. Tried the tasting menu and recommend it. You get a good selection of different types of basq food. You will leave full and happy!

The Best meal we had in our one month trip to Spain and France so far. We stopped there as we were hungry for lunch and they had space for 2 for one hour. We took the 6 course a degustation menú and averything was absolutely tasty and delicious from start to dessert. Can’t believe we ate all this in an hour, but everything was so good. And the service was top notch. Would love to live in Bilbao just to eat at La Viña del Ensanche

El Globo tavern is a charming restaurant with a warm and cozy ambiance, featuring a low-lit, wood-clad dining room and a fairly large terrace space outside. The shiny bar-top offers an impressive selection of classic pintxos that tempt both locals and visitors. The place is known for its exquisite gratineed spider crab and other mini creations like marinated salmon, black pudding crusted with peanuts, and ruby red grilled tuna. The bar is always buzzing with people enjoying the delightful atmosphere.
Been here a couple times and like the pintxos, ensalada de mariscos y gambas my favorite. Although there is no seating, outside there is an area u can sit and enjoy ur food and drink.
T Z — Google review
A bit of a disappointment as all 3 of the pintxos I had were pretty unremarkable. The fried baby squid was the best but, still, nothing special. The broiled bacalao pintxos was creamy and pretty tasteless. Service was fine, but there's no inside seating and the place is just not pleasant in general (the terrace does seem nice).
Sergio B — Google review
This is a well-known local tapas bar, and you can tell it's very popular — even on Monday afternoon it was quite busy. I ordered two pintxos, but since I was sitting in the outdoor area, I had to order a main dish as well. I chose the grilled prawns with salt and a glass of Txakoli. The food was pretty good, about average for the area, but the prices were a bit higher compared to other tapas bars I've been to.
Penny — Google review
Good pintxos bar with seating options outside and a few inside. The pintxos were quite good, albeit a little more on the pricy side. Overall a good experience!
Johannes R — Google review
Recommended by a local who lives close to this place I decided to try it. If you want to sit in their small patio you have to order from the menu which is mainly full sized meals. I was told that if I wanted Pintxos or drinks I have to order at the bar. I sat down and ordered the set menu. Starter is three Pintxos followed by very well cooked tuna (no fishy smell or taste at all) and Foie gras and to finish a chocolate lava cake for desert. The server was very friendly and helpful.
Tom C — Google review
Good pintxos, they do rely on cream/béchamel quite a bit. When we went it was completely packed , lots of people passing by and bumping into you, which it’s not my favorite way to enjoy a meal and subtracted from the experience a bit. But if you don’t mind that , this will probably be one of your favorite places in Bilbao.
Alfonso A — Google review
We got the pintxos menu, and extra zamburiña and hueleva prawn portions. Food was ok but nothing was great and none really stood out, food wasn’t as well balanced as we liked.
Giovanny B — Google review
They offer a variety of pintxos with inventive flavor combinations. I highly recommend the vaca madura con trufa and chipirón gratinado. There is plenty of room for eating inside the restaurant; you can choose to stand at the bar or eat at bistro tables.

Cafeteria
Coffee shop
Café Bar Bilbao is a lively retro cafe in the heart of Bilbao, serving up a mix of beers, coffee, and Basque tapas snacks. Established in 1911, this iconic spot offers traditional dishes like cod al pil pil and chistorra. The ingredients for their delectable offerings come from Mercado de la Ribera, which has been at the center of Bilbao's food scene since 1929.
A Bilbao institution with a lot of history. And their standards are still decently high. Not the best pinchos in the Basque Country but far from the worst we had. The grilled prawns were lovely also. Plenty of seating, and good service.
Ben Z — Google review
There are places that don’t chase trends, because they are the standard. This spot in the plaza? Pure class. No gimmicks, no fusion nonsense. Just time honored elegance: blue tiled walls that feel like they’ve seen a thousand slow afternoons, and pintxos that haven’t changed in years because they don’t need to. You sit outside with a cold beer or a glass of wine, the weight of the day slipping off your shoulders, watching the world move past in no particular hurry. This place isn’t loud about its greatness. It just is. And in a world obsessed with reinvention, that kind of quiet confidence is a beautiful thing.
Duncan — Google review
Happy to have stumbled upon this gem. The pinxos and the atmosphere is filled with authentic charm. The staff made the whole experience unforgettable, they were playful with their regulars and smiling to the travellers. Recommend for a quick bite and authentic Basquan experience
Hordur O — Google review
With a local vibe and food that doesn’t look too fancy this is a great place for a quick bite and drink. The prawn and clam pinto didn’t disappoint although it wasn’t anything to write home about. The jamon and mushroom pinto was basic but unpretentiously tasty.
Jit S — Google review
Lived the pinxtos here, absolutely delicious and fresh, order at the bar, and they bring it to the table. Can get busy. Loved the interior. Blue and looks like an institution
Patricia U — Google review
Funny story, came here and asked for a flat white (word of advice: don’t do it), and got a glass of wine. Nobody really speaks English here, but pintxos were good, and if you want a coffee ask for a coffee or a coffee with milk. Also really enjoyed their tortilla though not pictured.
Giovanny B — Google review
Had one fabulous beef check pinxto here and haunted we didn’t get more! Cool vibe, tasty drinks.

Irrintzi Pintxos & Friends is a vibrant and trendy bar located on Santa Maria street in the Old Town of Bilbao. This bustling area is known for its lively atmosphere and diverse culinary scene. At Irrintzi, visitors can indulge in globally inspired pintxos, small skewered appetizers that are a beloved part of Basque culture.
If you want some pintxos, but you are bored by the traditional recipe, this place has plenty of pintxos based on various cuisines. But if you want your traditional pintxos, they have them too. The selection is pretty good and wide. The place can get very busy, so take into account that it might take some time to get the order in. Otherwise, the food and the service are amazing.
Jakub K — Google review
An iconic place for authentic Pintxos. The service is fast, the food is good, the atmosphere is simple and local. Our favorites: the pulled pork with a slice of apple, and the spicy chicken.
TM — Google review
A nice place full of locals which is always a good sign. They are very creative with their pintxos as I'd never seen such flavours.
Owen O — Google review
Only place I found which had a dedicated gluten free menu, had plenty of choice on there too. Had a few of them, good food and good value. Staff were nice and accommodating to my poor Spanish. Service good. Venue itself nothing special, but def worth a visit if after gluten free food in Bilbao. Walk in, didn’t need to book.
Tim B — Google review
A really nice and interesting spot for somebody who visits from outside of Spain. It was my first experience trying Pintxos and this was probably a pretty authentic one. You choose from the ones offered everywhere on the counter, put them on your plate and try to make eye contact with the very very very busy bar woman. It's a wonder they don't burn out after a day of working, respect. They can heat them up for you, or you just eat them like that. 2,50 per snack is quite hefty in my opinion, but for the experience it's worth it. If you have problems with crowded places though, be warned.
Domitian E — Google review
For gluten free pintxos they have a small menu card you need to ask for, these ones they present on gf bread. Food was good, particularly the crispy apple on shredded duck. Nice, simple tapas bar.
David F — Google review
Best pintos in Bilbao! And we've tried few already. Such a variety and not only bread/baggiete based.
Justyna K — Google review
Having tasted so many Pintxos in Bilbao it is safe to say that this place is special. Unassuming interior with function over form this place offers a great new interpretation of the Pintxo. A fusion of Basque culinary delights with an east-asian twist on the whole thing. The owner is a delight and happy to recommend dishes based on your preference. Hard to just pick one here so go ahead an sample them all. Recommended are the pulled pork and fallafel ones. Thanks for having us!

Rio-Oja Restaurant is a long-standing, family-run dining room in the center of Bilbao's Siete Calles. It offers traditional Basque casseroles, meat and fish dishes, showcasing the region's culinary excitement. The restaurant serves homemade stews on the bar, replacing pintxos with options like lamb, beef, rabbit or fish stews served with rustic bread. Additionally, clams in green sauce and paella are available for those seeking a lighter bite.
Everybody told us to go here and we gave in into our third day here. However, we stopped by for a late lunch-early dinner around 4. This was the perfect timing for us. We got a good seat, the food was really good and the service was fast. After 5 it started to get busy and the impatient guests waiting made us feel we had to leave. However, the waiter was never fazed, offered us a coffee and chatted with us. The interior is also really a nice detail. Would recommend, but avoid the busy times

Wouldn’t recommend. All of the tapas in front of you are microwaved. Mussels were horrible. They are in a very bland smoky tomato sauce. I didn’t finish them and that’s saying a lot. Ordered the grilled lamb and it was extremely fatty, more than half was inedible and plate looked like a mess. Conveniently a Spanish couple order grilled lamb chops next to me and they were perfect pieces and the plate actually looked appealing. I tried to order the sea bass and they only had 25€ portions left .The couple on the other side somehow managed to order a small sea bass well after I tired to order one. Pretty sure I was treated poorly for not being Spanish. Only thing that was actually good was the cheese cake

I love snails. I mean, I really love snails. These were seriously the best snails 🐌 I’ve ever had. They were stewed in an amazing spicy and sweet and thick red sauce with large chunks of spicy peppers and stewed meat. Truly something special.

Great food in a really busy, fast-paced bar-resto. The menu is relatively simple but with lots of choice and the wine is, of course, delicious and very good value. Great service and great amusement watching some people struggling with the piparras, which I had 3 sets of. This is a great place. The rabbit and soup were also superb.

Absolutely fabulous! Bustling restaurant / bar with traditional Spanish cuisine. Super friendly service & delicious inexpensive food & wine. Standouts were the croquetas, braised rabbit and grilled pimientos padron

Basquery, located near the Albia Gardens, is a unique and trendy spot in Bilbao. It's a multifaceted space that combines elements of a restaurant, bakery, and brewery. The establishment is the brainchild of Aitor Elizegi, former president of Athletic Bilbao and a hospitality entrepreneur. Here you can enjoy delicious pizzas, hamburgers, and craft beers brewed on-site.
Fabulous on site brewed beers. Their bitter and SOK especially good. Great selection of pintxos and very reasonably priced. Staff were very friendly, try speaking a bit of Spanish or Basque. Didn't try the restaurant but it looked pretty good, as did the bakery.

Excellent beer selection (on tap and in cans/bottles in a cooler). Food is very good, staff is friendly. I wish they had a sister location in Madrid.

We went FOUR times during our three-day stay in Bilbao because 1) we love great craft beer 2) we love great food. This place is a DREAM. Absolutely delicious food and an amazing variety of craft beers. You can see how much attention to detail and effort people in the kitchen put on every dush. The bread is made onsite too, along with pastries and cakes. And they seem to be always open. Such brilliant, warm and friendly service. The dream!!! Highly HIGHLY recommended.

Wonderful place to have breakfast, lunch or anything else. They really know how to make food and how to give the best service! The pastries are awesome, the coffee is good, the hamburger was really good. We came back again and again which is not a typical thing for us at all!

A really promising spot with a brilliant atmosphere and an impressive selection of beers. We were excited to try a few, but unfortunately, it was a bit of a mixed experience. A couple of the draught beers we tried didn't taste as fresh as they should have, which was a letdown. This place has huge potential to be a top beer destination in Bilbao, so I'm hoping we just caught them on an off day.

The attentive and friendly staff is amazing here. They cater to all of their customers needs. The quality is excellent and this cafe/ restaurant stands out as special amongst many great cafe / restaurants in Bilbao. Highly recommend!

This place is fantastic. I travelled across the city from Txurdinaga for my morning cold brew every morning for a month and had brunch here on several occasions. The coffee blend is delicious, rich and chocolatey. The food is amazing, interesting and innovative and I have never had something that I didn’t love. The atmosphere is really fun and relaxed. The cheesecake is the best that I had in my life! Pure and simple. A special note about the staff. Every single member of the team is friendly, patient, kind and fun. I can’t praise this cafe enough and it will be top of my list to visit again when I come back to Bilbao.

Absolutely the best cappuccino in a long time. Food was also delicious. Great vegan Club Sandwich. Staff was extremely friendly. Inside is very nice. Some tables on the sidewalk.

Loved ARVO! Food is good and the staff are good, and really friendly as well. It's a small shop so there may be a wait, but if you're looking for a tasty breakfast, with great coffee at a reasonable price then this is the place for you!
Daniel — Google review
Had an amazing brunch here. The location isn’t too central so when I went it wasn’t too crowded. The latte with oat milk was delicious. They didn’t have the tea flavor we like but they gladly gave us hot water. (We always carry tea bags in our arsenal lol) For food we ordered the shakshuka and Turkish eggs and they were beautifully executed. Service was fast and the bathroom was clean. Definitely coming back for my future visits to Bilbao.

Best coffee in Bilbao hands down! I’m a bit of a coffee snob and the Arvo crew does it Well! and their food is Delicious! Good vibes and Flat whites! 👏❤️🙏
Louis P — Google review
The coffee was very smooth and worked well with several milk options (1 oat flat white and 1 regular milk cappuccino). Staff were very friendly and helpful and there was a good, relaxed atmosphere in the cafe. The standout was the Basque cheesecake. A very generous slice, with an incredibly smooth texture and the perfect balance of caramelised cheese without it being too sweet. A must visit when in Bilbao for speciality coffee and cheesecake!
Niamh S — Google review
Wonderful place. The interior is very aesthetic, coffee is premium and the food has been delicious! Tarte de queso y pystachio - one of the best cheese cakes I ever had. The only improvement I could suggest - to have a couple dishes with pouched eggs.

Charamel Gozotegia in Casco Viejo is a charming pastry shop with vintage decor and a wide range of coffee options, including the popular affogato. This unique espresso variation features a scoop of ice cream submerged in the coffee for a delightful combination of flavors. The bakery also offers an extensive selection of sweets, from traditional cakes to imported treats like cinnamon rolls and pasteis de Belem.
Loved the place!! The pastries are home made, and freshly baked. They keep coming out of the kitchen. Everything we tried tasted very good. (my favorite: the chicken curry toast). Also the coffee and the juices are great. Also, the value-for-money is fair. Highly recommended.

Unreal cheesecake. Tried the Gorgonzola one and was unique, the classic one looks great and want to try in the future. Recommend if you’re looking for coffee, cheesecake or local pasties and cake. Friendly service, decent prices.
Ben Z — Google review
Best bakery ever. I was genuinely surprised by the quality of pastries; the cinnamon roll is on par with those I had in Copenhagen — a huge compliment. The cheesecake is also worth the hype. Nothing like NY style — this one is light and like pudding! One of the best I’ve had in during my 9 months in Spain.
Lydia — Google review
We went there because the cheesecake was supposed to be unique and amazing. Unfortunately it was not. It tasted more like an egg’y custard than cheesecake. But coffee was very good!

Came for breakfast on a Friday morning. There was a very wide selection. Everything was delicious and well-prepared. You can get free water, which is provided in a jug on the side with glasses. Definitely recommended! 👍

Brilliant café! Came for breakfast and was very impressed by the selection of pastries and cakes. Staff were absolutely lovely and the atmosphere was really nice. Highly recommend 👍

We chanced upon this place an hour before the closing time and did a takeaway of the soft cheesecake (plain) and the pistachio cheesecake. The pistachio taste was subtle, and I have not come across pistachio cheesecake before, so I had to try this. Both were excellent, with a biscuit crumble underneath. They also had a 3rd option of hard cheesecake, which we didn't order. Highly recommended!

Lovely place for a Sunday brunch just 10 mins walking to the Guggenheim. We went for the €18 brunch: -fresh juice( choice between orange+red fruits/ orange+ carrot/orange+pineapple) -hot drink -toast with butter, strawberry jam, marmalade - board of Iberico ham with bread, evo, tomato concassé - focaccia with salmon and herb soft cheese or focaccia with scrambled eggs -whipped greek yoghurt with red berries sauce. All the food was extremely fresh and high quality and I loved how they presented the food using local fresh ingredients.

I bought a bag of doughnuts and a pack of three, but the rest seemed a bit pricey. The doughnuts were large, very good, and fluffy. The doughnuts were not too sweet, dry, and a bit sticky. To eat them properly, I had to microwave them. I think they could be improved. Open until 2:00 PM. It's nice to have a place with a variety of gluten-free products.
