Art museum
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is a stunning titanium and glass structure designed by Frank Gehry, showcasing major 20th-century artworks. It's located in Bilbao, a city that beautifully blends old and new. The museum is accessible via the unique Zubri Zuri Bridge, which has become an attraction in itself. While visiting, don't miss walking along the River Nervion for breathtaking views of the museum's futuristic architecture.
Such a fantastic showcase of different art forms and a spectacular building. A definite must see when you are in Bilbao. Book tickets in advance for sure as it does get busy, I booked for the first slot at 10am and it was quiet but by the time I got to the end of my visit it was much busier. Can easily spend a couple of hours in the museum itself and more outside in the sculpture gardens and walkways.
David B — Google review
Had a lovely time at the Guggenheim Museum. It was definitely smaller than expected but still a fun and entertaining experience. Tickets are definitely on the pricier side but I’d say worth it. We didn’t get tickets in advance but thankfully there was just a small line to get tickets. I visited on a Friday. There’s 3 floors and I’d say that 2 hours would be more than enough to see everything + take pictures. The building has amazing architecture both externally and internally.

Loved the Guggenheim in Bilbao. The building is beautiful. Inside, I really enjoyed this one area with huge bold texts and pieces that felt super activist-like. Not sure what to call that type of art, but it was powerful and really cool to walk through. Definitely a museum that makes you stop and think while also just being an awesome place to see
Erick T — Google review
A absolutely place to come visit. Depending on what is in exhibit, you will find different tastes of art. Art with self expression was an inspiring sight. Will need around 2-4 hours to view all. The outside of the museum has more sculptures to appreciate as well as the “puppy” in o admire.
Leiby S — Google review
An absolute must-see when visit Bilbao. Outside and also the exhibition. The rooms seems to be larger than from outside. Really great! I was in the morning where it is empty! I didn't use any guide or smartphone. For me art need to touch you, or not. Any description can not cover this. Art is the moment where You are touched ♥️. But also CRcodes are available to scan. Entrance fee is 18€, which is full ok. You can directly go- no need to prebook in September. The museum has 3floors with good signs and directions. I spend 2hours. This time is ok, I think. I visited also the cafe, which is very good also.
R. A — Google review
It’s world-famous for a reason! I am in no way well-versed in art but I really enjoyed all 3 floors of the museum. I appreciated the variety of media, artists, eras, and kind of art featured here. I think what made it more fun was how interactive some of them are, and some exhibitions were also larger than life. It featured both big and rising, international and local names in the industry which was a great way to highlight other people in the industry. I appreciated how organized the museum was as well. There was a Yayoi Kusama exhibition, which would normally take forever to see but they planned it very well. It was a really quick few seconds to see it but this made the line go faster and didn’t hold up anyone who wanted to see it. The featured artist at that time was also very talented and fun to see! Lots of interactive and dynamic art featured that changed the experience for the viewer every room we visited. We also didn’t buy tickets ahead and I really thought we missed our chance, but the museum allotted tickets for walk-in visitors. The line went so fast as well which we appreciated a lot. So it was a very pleasant experience!!
Kim M — Google review
Spectacular treat just to view it from the outside. We went in the doors and explored the lobby gift shop and absolutely incredible short video they provide for free. Just this and the outside art could be enough for you? We didn’t have enough time to explore further, but we’re in awe of what we did see and architecture. They were replanting the flower dog in early October.

Guggenheim Museum Bilbao – An Architectural and Artistic Masterpiece As photographers for Photolator, visiting the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao was a feast for the eyes and the lens. Designed by Frank Gehry, this world-renowned museum is as much a work of art as the masterpieces it houses. Its sweeping titanium curves, shimmering in the sunlight, change character with the time of day, offering endless photographic possibilities from every angle. The surrounding area adds to the magic — from the playful “Puppy” flower sculpture to the striking riverside setting, each step offers a new composition. Inside, the museum’s spacious, light-filled galleries are home to exceptional contemporary art, thoughtfully displayed to inspire both art lovers and photographers alike. Service is impeccable, the layout is intuitive, and the atmosphere encourages both contemplation and creativity. For photographers, the Guggenheim is not just a cultural stop, but a dynamic canvas where light, form, and art converge. For Photolator, it stands as a prime example of architecture and art harmonizing to create an unforgettable visual experience. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Church of San Francisco de Asis is a serene sanctuary amidst the bustling urban landscape. Constructed in 1890, this magnificent neo-Gothic structure features stunning stained glass windows and intricate stone carvings on its facade. Designed by architect Severino Achucarro, the church's towering spires and pointed arches are truly awe-inspiring. Inside, visitors can admire a beautiful golden Chapel dedicated to El Salvador and an impressive altar.
This church is one of the most beautiful architectural buildings that I have seen here in Bilbao, Spain. It is a very calming place where I can have peaceful moments of praying and praising God.

Neogothic cathedral with twin towers and a fine front facade that includes an effigy of San Francisco de Asis. The front isn't on Calle San Francisco but on the first street to your right as it meets Plaza Zabalburu. Inside to the left is a beautiful golden Chapel dedicated to El Salvador and the alter is also impressive.

(Translated by Google) The Church of San Francisco de Asís (La Quinta Parroquia) is a place with impressive architecture and a spiritual aura that attracts attention from afar. However, our experience when trying to visit it was quite frustrating, since, after going several times, we always found it closed. The positive The facade of the church is wonderful. Its architectural details reflect centuries of history and religious tradition. Even from the outside, the building manages to convey a feeling of peace and solemnity that invites you to stop and contemplate it. It's a great place to take photos and admire the details that make this church so special. On the rare occasions when it is open, according to other people's comments, the interior is just as beautiful, with a high altar full of details and stained glass windows that magically illuminate the space. However, we were not lucky enough to see the inside. The negative The main problem is that the church is closed most of the time, which makes the experience very difficult for visitors. There are no clear hours or information available on when it can be accessed, which is disappointing after making the effort to visit on several occasions. This not only affects tourists who want to see its interior, but also the faithful who might want to enter for a moment of prayer or to attend mass. It's a shame that a place with so much potential and beauty is so inaccessible. Suggestions for improvement It would be very helpful if the church implemented a fixed opening time or posted a visible sign with information about the hours it is available. Additionally, having staff who can provide information or even guide tours would be a great addition, especially for those interested in its history and architecture. Conclusion The Church of Saint Francis of Assisi is a place worth visiting for its external beauty and historical significance, but its inaccessibility is a big problem. If you decide to go, I recommend enjoying the outside and the surrounding atmosphere, but don't look forward too much to entering the interior. With some adjustments to its administration and hours, this church could be one of the most notable attractions in the area. For now, it is a beautiful place, but frustrating for those who really want to know it in depth.

Known as "the fifth parish," its construction began in 1890, the work of architect Luis de Landecho, using sandstone from Mount Oitz. It was consecrated in 1902. It has a rectangular floor plan with three naves and a polygonal apse. The interior is plastered in green, gold, and burgundy, lending a majestic appearance to the church. The magnificent stained-glass windows were made in Munich in 1908. The façade, with twin towers topped with pointed stone spires, lends a striking verticality to the complex. Begoñako Basilika, also known as the Basilica of Begona, is a 16th-century church located in Bilbao, Spain. It is dedicated to the Virgin of Begona, the patron saint of Biscay. The basilica features mostly Gothic architecture and houses an ornate gold altarpiece.
A relatively tough climb to get here, I chose to take the stairs instead of the elevator and was glad I did. The church is very beautiful both inside and out and I very much enjoyed my short time coming here.

I walked up the steps to visit the Begona Basilica. It is worth visiting if you are in Bilbao. The basilica itself is not as big as you’d expect but the altar is stunning. There are several large paintings on the walls which are interesting. I am here during their August holiday and there are food stalls lining outside with all kind of baked goods.

San Nikolas eliza, a Catholic church in Bilbao, was consecrated in 1756 and is dedicated to St. Nicholas of Bari, the patron saint of sailors. The baroque facade and octagonal interior make it a striking landmark at the northern entrance to Casco Viejo. The church features beautiful bell towers and a functioning clock tower. Visitors can admire its craftsmanship, including an impressive altarpiece and carvings inside.
San Nikolas Eliza, also known as the Church of San Nicolás, is a prominent Baroque-style church located in Bilbao's Casco Viejo (Old Town). Completed in 1756 after thirteen years of construction under the direction of master builder Ignacio de Ibero, the church is renowned for its unique architectural design and historical significance. The church's floor plan is distinctive, featuring a Greek cross shape inscribed within a square, an uncommon design for its time. This layout is crowned by a magnificent dome with a chamfered prism shape, though its visibility from the front is partially obscured by the central belfry on the main façade. The façade itself is divided into three sections: the central entrance and two flanking towers. Notably, the tympanum above the main entrance showcases a bronze relief, adding to the façade's elegance. Inside, visitors can admire five exquisite Rococo-style altarpieces crafted by Juan Pascual de Mena. The central altarpiece in the high chapel features a figure of Saint Nicholas of Bari, accompanied by representations of Saint Laurence, Saint Vincent, the crucified Christ, Saint Peter, and Saint Paul. Flanking the central pinnacle are impressive sculptures symbolizing Charity and Fortitude. These altarpieces were meticulously restored between 2007 and 2011, ensuring their preservation for future generations. Historical Significance Beyond its architectural beauty, San Nikolas Eliza holds a special place in Bilbao's history. In 1812, it served as the venue where the General Assembly of Biscay signed the Cádiz Liberal Constitution, popularly known as "La Pepa." Additionally, during the Carlist Wars, the church was repurposed as a munitions store, forge, and workshop, yet it emerged largely unscathed, allowing visitors today to appreciate its original design and elegance. The church is open daily, typically from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 17:00 to 19:00, though these hours may vary on holidays or during religious events. Entrance is free.

It's specifically in the Plaza de San Nicolás and its façade faces the Arriaga theater. The love of God & the church is shown in the workmanship of the structure and works of art inside.

Joan Santuen eliza, also known as the Church of Saints John, is a parish church in Bilbao's Old Town. Built in the classicist baroque style in the 17th century, it was once the church of Colegio de San Andres and is now a must-visit to learn about Bilbao's ecclesiastical culture.
If you are lucky enough to find its doors open this is a little gem of a church! Has a sort of masonic baroque feel to it with its intricate ceiling, dome and arches.

Visited this church on April 18, Viernes Santo. I'm not a religious person at all, but it was interesting for me to visit this church and traditional Viernes Santo procession. Inside the church there are a lot of religious pieces of history, up from the 15-16 century, which is impressive. Beautiful architecture.
Władyslaw Z — Google review
I'm rating it okay for the beauty of the exterior. I went by here a number of times but it was never open. If the interior is like other churches in Bilbao it's an amazing place. The love of God and the church can be seen and felt in these master pieces.

(Translated by Google) The Church of Santos Juanes, located in the heart of the Old Town of Bilbao, is one of the most emblematic religious buildings in the city. Built in the 17th century, it has a baroque style that distinguishes it both for its architecture and its history. The temple was built on an old hermitage dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, but its current construction dates back to 1622, being completed in the middle of that century. One of the most notable elements of the church is its façade, a Baroque masterpiece, with sculptures and ornaments that attract attention for their detailed work and religious symbolism. Inside, the church has an impressive decorated vault and several altarpieces, especially highlighting the main altarpiece, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and Saint John the Evangelist, the saints to whom the church is consecrated. Throughout its history, the Church of Santos Juanes has witnessed multiple historical events in the city, resisting the floods that hit Bilbao on several occasions. Although it undergoes modifications over time, it maintains its original essence, being a place of great relevance for both the religious and cultural life of Bilbao. Currently, it is an active space of worship and one of the most important points of tourist interest in the city. Follow me for more!!! The San Antonio Abad Parish Church is the site of the greatest tradition and importance in Bilbao's history as, according to recent excavations carried out inside the temple, the site may have been occupied even a hundred years before the city was founded. In addition to the Church of San Antón, its facade stands out on the north side and is located under a peculiar stand designed by Juan de Láriz from 1559. From this privileged balcony, members of the municipal corporation, whose headquarters was directly in the temple, participated in the shows taking place in Plaza Vieja.

The exterior showcases a Renaissance-style façade with a triumphal arch, reflecting the architectural transition of its time. The candlelight concert tribute to ABBA at Iglesia de la Encarnación was a beautiful event. The entrance was well-organized, and the acoustics were excellent. (Translated by Google) I have already gone twice to the concert they do with candles and another one at Fiestas de Bilbao. It is a beautiful, spacious venue. It is surprising for its lack of paintings, statues, sculptures. But the building is impressive with incredible (I think) Gothic style ceilings. That they host shows seems like a success to me, it is a place that is enjoyable. Of course, if you go in winter, dress warmly and with something to sit on because the benches are cold, cold...
