Unfortunately, many visitors park without any sense of order, which can make finding a spot frustrating. The car guards on site seem to lack the authority or structure to manage this effectively, leaving the parking area feeling somewhat chaotic and insecure. I think local donations for the various flower beds would be great,there isn’t a specifically diverse range of flowers.

SUCH A DISAPPOINTING TIME. when you have been to the botanical gardens 🏡 n Durban and you come to this botanical garden in jhb you would think there would be beauty as along the roads many homes have better outside gardens than this place. Lots of trees, even a weed has become a tree which made us roar with laughter. The only flower we saw was one bush of stralitzers and a little water feature. Rather call it a park and put swings and slides for the kids there bec of you going to look at the flowers, sorry there aren't any.

What a nice park/garden in the middle of Johannesburg. Took the family for a stroll and ice-cream and the weather was great also. A nice garden with plenty of roses, a few interesting memorials/plaques a historical garden and then the dam itself. Plenty of space for picnics, play area for kids and quite a few ducks. Will definately go again

It's really peaceful and clean We fed the ducks and walked around, lot of people with Dogs 🐕 The Bonsai display was really beautiful

Very nice for a Sunday outing. Dogs are allowed at the park, but not many on leashes. Clean and tidy.

This place is a literal sanctuary .There is a walking trail if you are looking to talk a walk,there is a huge garden that has beautiful roses,and plenty more different flowers ,the place is well maintained and is family friendly, there's also a little book store if you want to grab a book to read but they are priced.As you walk in there is a large,beautiful dam that has catfish and ducks,you can even go Rowling in a boat you rent, i also realized that there's a area where you can go scuba diving and even fishing.Theres also a playground for the little ones and it's a great picnic spot that's for sure I would highly recommend this place

The greenery is beautiful. There's enough space. It doesn't get hectic on Sundays. The boats were available and affordable. That experience was absolutely amazing. I wish the restaurant was open. I also loved the basketball courts. It's really an amazing place for romantic dates, celebrations, braais, outing...

The kids had a wonderful time together having fun as well as learning things.

The staff at the entrance were rude not helpful they treat seniors as if you are stupid. Instead the staff at the restaurant and the guys working in the garden very friendly

Great place to chill with family and friends! Could have a walk or a run. Good spots for a braai and activities, rowing etc, Or have a good meal and drinks at Moyos if you prefer chilling indoors. Either way it's one of the best spots around!

Delta Parknis a big park that runs through Randburg suburbs; Blairgowrie, Craighall, Rivonia and Victory park. It has a streams and a few dams, with lovely scenery. If you enter through the Blairgowrie entrace you'll see lovely flowers. The Craighall entrance will sometimes have horses out for their feed and to drink in the stream. Dog friendly, many dogs off leashes. Although a lovely place, I would encourage that you walk it in groups because its so big there isn't a way to "close it off" from the general public that's the only real concern.

Delta Park is hands-down the best place to walk my dog in Johannesburg. It’s safe, beautifully maintained, and always clean. The open spaces and variety of paths make every walk enjoyable, and the peaceful atmosphere is a real gem in the city. Great experience except for the homeless men roaming around the park. This is a potential security risk. There were also people walking their dogs without leashes which is dangerous around kids. One of the dogs came to where we were seated and started sniffing around the kids, one of whom is petrified of dogs, and the owner was nowhere to be seen.

Delta Park is one of those places that keeps you living in Randburg. It’s huge, it’s open, and it doesn’t feel fake or over-designed. You can walk, run, push a pram, cycle, or just sit on the grass with a takeaway coffee and let the dog roll in the dirt. The bird hides next to the wetland are actually nice and quiet if you just want to sit and watch water birds for a while. There are always people around in the mornings and late afternoons, which makes it feel safe enough. Parking is not a mission, and kids can ride little bikes on flat paths without you panicking. It’s a very “come breathe for an hour” place.

Lovely place to go for a walk. Neat and clean. A lot of other people walking their dogs, cyclist and even a few riding their horses. Most of our fellow walkers are friendly and considered. Be careful not to walk in the cycling path for they go very fast. My only issue is that some of the dogs are not on leash and attacks other dogs and the horses. Overall it is a lovely place. The little coffee shop is cute and very busy. Food & drinks are nice. Car guards in parking areas. There are security patrols with dogs doing rounds. Always be aware of your surroundings for some robberies did occure. Be safe and walk in groups.

I love coming to this park! This is such a wonderful place to be. It’s a great spot to order a freezo and take a walk around. Whether you want to be active, take a romantic stroll with your partner, or walk your dog — this is definitely the place to go. My partner and I often take lovely walks here and then sit down for a quick bite that we pack ourselves. It’s honestly such a peaceful place to chill. The park is well maintained, there’s lots of parking, and it’s really friendly too! You can also spot the cutest dogs, chat with pet owners, grab a bite at the restaurant, or even play some padel if you’re up for it. It’s just a great spot to relax and meet people!

The park is attractive. Relaxing. And the greenery everywhere is amazing. I like it. Though, the restrooms seem to have no maintaining. Nonetheless, the park is free-entry. And it's a great spot for a family day out - with braai stands available; a kiddies play area; some benches to watch over the dam; and walkways for a casual stroll.

The playground has been expanded slightly and there's now more seating, which is a welcome improvement. However, parts of the playground are worn down and in need of maintenance. There are no restaurants on site, so you'll need to bring your own food and braai setup if you plan to cook. On the upside, the place is pet-friendly, which is a definite plus for animal lovers. Overall, it's a decent spot, but there’s room for improvement.

You can see it is infrequently maintained and cleaned, such as the walking paths are cut but there is rubbish all over. So sad to see the waterfront riddled with weeds. Toilets are okay but no toilet paper. The walk around the lake was pleasant and enjoyable. Kids enjoyed the big and safe playground area which is marginally better than the rest of the park. For free entrance and state of local municipality it is pretty much expected. Security is visible in the parking lot and entrance.

My friend and I arrived at the park and the security guards told us that there’s an entrance fee of R50. I was shocked because I know there’s no entrance fee and I asked “since when is there a fee” and she said “from today” (Sunday). We noticed 3 cars going in without paying, one of the security guards came to us and said they just wanted a donation to fix the toilets because they fixed them and the money was coming from their pockets so they wanted the money back, eventually we got in (without paying) and had to go to the bathroom and to our surprise, the bathrooms weren’t fixed, there was leakage and toilets were blocked . It was bad.

Host of the Gillooly's Park-run every Saturday morning at 8 am. This popular run is attended by around 500 entrants every weekend and is a mainly flat run over grass trail conditions. This run attracts participants of all fitness levels and you are welcome to walk the course if you so choose.

I unfortunately did not get the chance to go inside as we were turned back by the security guards telling us the park has been closed since Good Friday due to the fact that the municipality has not been cleaning, the toilets are dirty and they don’t want to let the public inside because the kids will end up relieving themselves by the grass or trees. My kids were disappointed as it was a surprise for them and it was our first time there, I do hope it opens soon.

Cute little park with a pond in the centre. I like to come here to catch the sunset and watch the ducks swim in the water. I always feel safe here.

Lovely little park in the Sandown CBD. It looks a bit worse for the wear at the moment, most likely flood damage. Great playground for the kids. Truffles Restaurant is also on the premises, which is really lovely.

The park is lovely: spacious, well maintained (trimmed grass, No liter, most kiddie's jungle gyms in good order) and friendly, helpful access control staff. We expected that there was a market, as advertised on Google, but we discovered that it had been long discontinued. Toilets need to be better kept.

It used to be a really nice park to visit. I visited recently, half the park has no grass and is sandy, while the other half is covered with grass that is not well maintained, as seen in the pictures below. No sign of whether this is temporary or not. There is a restaurant/bar in the park which looks nice and chill, but I did not visit it. There is also a nice kids play area if you're looking for something outdoorsy. However, there are a few picnic spots. But the park is not as nice as before.

Nice atmosphere and views of the park. Good, friendly service. Food ok, overpriced. NOT wheelchair friendly - they have a ramp on the stairs which is not usable and there's a tree partly obstructing access (had to be lifted to get in). There's no wheelchair friendly bathroom. Not acceptable! In this day and age one would expect better access for everyone. Won't be going there again

This park has the potential to be great but unfortunately there is no upkeep. The ponds are full of garbage and litter. The ramp to the bridge is broken. The bathrooms are not as tidy. The adult green gym is non functional. If they pay a bit of attention, this could be such a lovely place. The plus side is that the children's play area is very well kept and secured with gates. There is also a cute chess game which is fun to play.

What a special experience! So good to see this lovely park well maintained and organized. Justice took us around and thoughtfully explained parts of the walk and the artworks to look out for. Highly recommend you go soon as the Jacarandas are in season and you have great views of them on the skyline.

A beautiful and peaceful walking park with scenic views. The trails include some inclines and stairs, so be ready for a light workout, but it’s well worth it. My partner and I had a great time, even enjoyed some snacks along the way (which we brought as there are no shops in the park no nearby). Just a heads-up: parking is limited, especially on weekends, so consider taking an Uber to avoid the hassle. A great picnic spot as well.

The most beautiful spot in Joburg, an absolute gem of a find. James Delaney is the genius who has poured the love needed into making this what it is, together with City Parks. Amazing what love and care can do for our beautiful city of Joburg.

The minute you walk in you forget that you in JHB, tranquility there, running waters and the place is kept clean,we took beautiful pictures..it needs hicking outfit vibes if you want to explore more but since we went for picnic it was as perfect.parking is very limited and no bottles allowed.

This has to be one of the best national parks in Gauteng. It's very scenic and has a diverse array of flowers and indigenous trees and shrubs. Awesome place for walks and picnics with friends and family. I was fortunate to visit during the Rose Fest concert and I loved the atmosphere here. Will be visiting again soon :)

Great place to visit to escape from the hustle and busy lifestyle in joburg. People enjoyed themselves; having picnics on the grass areas. Waterfall was breathtaking. We had cheesecake and coffee at the restaurant. I would recommend this place without any reservation.

We followed the paths through the lawns and aloes and then the waterfall just appeared, clean white water dropping into the gorge with that steady, soothing roar. We found a patch of shade, kicked off our shoes, and let the afternoon drift. Every few minutes someone would point out something small: sunbirds in the flowers, dragonflies over the stream, a glimpse of the Verreaux’s eagles circling the cliff. It’s an easy place to slow down. Short trails for a leg-stretch, benches where you actually want to sit, and space for kids to run without feeling crowded. We shared a simple picnic, took a few photos by the falls, and left feeling like we’d been out of the city for hours—calmer, lighter, and already planning the next visit.

The gardens are absolutely stunning! So serene & peaceful. Very well kept. Waterfall was the star of the show......off course! The hike was OK. Very dry .... I imagine it comes alive after rains etc.

Lovely place to visit. Although one must take away your own litter as there no bins, sadly there are always people who leave litter behind. There were one or two places amongst the plants that had papers lying there and it hadn’t been removed. Restaurant was okay, our meal wasn’t bad but nothing much to rave about. Overall a great place for a day visit

The place is very well maintained, and it's a very relaxing atmosphere. Just nice to walk around and enjoy nature and have a cup of coffee at the coffee shop there, nestled between the trees. Very, very relaxing. And very comfortable. The toilets are also very well maintained, and there are extra toilets available in the form of portable ones.

It is extremely well kept and boundlessly beautiful this time of year. There are nice spaces to picnic or relax and play areas for the kids as well as walking routes of varying distances with interests plants and Dassies with serene rest areas. There are beautiful sculptures done by Anton Smit spotted throughout and a awesome waterfall.

Super lovely space for picnicking, short hikes or just family fun time, or dates. Had so many wonderful times there, and everything is gorgeous and very well maintained. The gardens are stunning and the views at the top of the short hike paths are beautiful. Loved the waterfall noices near that one glass vield were we had a picknick. Entry fee is not that bad, think it was R70 for adults and like R40-R45 for students with valid student cards, i just used my digital card. Highly recommend a short walk around the area and checking out their cool workout area, was lots of fun messing around there.

Such a stunning celebration of our natural heritage! Thoughtfully laid out with lots of notice boards and information. Beautiful sculptures to admire, and lots of little shady spots for a picnic. Happy to pay the entrance fee, as it is clearly going towards maintaining everything.

It has been some time since I last visited the Pretoria Botanical Gardens. I decided to try out the Parkrun at this venue. Parking is available, but on the side of the road as the venue parking fills up quickly. The bathrooms were clean and no long ques. There has been a noticeable focus on adding beautiful sculptures and various art all along the Gardens adding to its already well manicured and cared for flora and forna. The parkrun held at the Pretoria Botanical Gardens is well organised and the route was challenging enough for beginners to enjoy and still feel the burn afterwards.

This park as massive, but it's also entirely dead. Fences are broken at several places. There are squatters living beside the river in the thick bushes. There is a storm water or sewage river running through site and it smells horrific. The fountain in the park is beyond destroyed. The solar house isn't maintained. The ponds are nice to look at, but very filthy for ponds. There are big lawns so there's plenty of space for kites, riding a bike, playing ball sports or bringing your own braai. The entrance guard booth is very inquisitive as to why someone visits the PUBLIC park, which is in a tiny amount good for safety, but mostly intimidating to some would-be visitors.

This park is simply not the same anymore. Not well maintained and clearly home to a new community that resides there permanently.

One thing that took me out was seeing squatter camps/shacks right in the park; in the middle of Sandton. I was shocked i must say; i wonder if we don’t vote out the mafia organisation called ANC if in the next 5 years we will ever have any open land for people to walk and relax. Am saying this because they are allowing this mushrooming of squatter camps everywhere.

Still a good place, but was looking a but shabby around the edges. No sure how safe it would be alone.

Went for a self-drive at the reserve and really enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. The place is huge, perfect for getting some fresh air and taking in the natural surroundings. The experience was relaxing overall, though it would’ve been nice to see more animals along the way. On the plus side, the food was tasty and very affordable, which made the visit even better. A great spot if you’re looking for a quiet escape into nature.

A short 25 minute drive from Pretoria East you'll find a wonderful day outing in the Rietvlei Nature Reserve. At a total cost of R125 for one adult and a kid it is absolutely worth the fee. The staff are friendly, from the moment you enter the gate, to purchasing tickets and entering the Reserve. All were friendly and welcoming. We packed a picnic, our camera and embarked on a self-drive fueled by a bunch of excitement to be out in Nature in search of wildlife. The roads are easily drive able even in a small hatch back vehicle. We stopped at three different bird hides/ lookout points and each were well maintained. We enjoyed a slow meander and eventually ended up at the coffee shop. There is a section that is home to a few Donkeys which the kids love to feed ( bring a bag of carrots, you'll be a favourite) . We enjoyed a coffee and an ice-cream before heading back out to look at more game and birds. We saw a meerkat, lots of Buffalo , zebras, ostriches, and a number of birds. Not much bird variety, but it was midday. After enjoying a good 4.5 hours of driving around we headed back home. There is are restrooms at Reception, by the coffee shop and at the Finfoot hide. All of which were decently maintained and had loo paper. We will most certainly become more regular visitors.

What a pleasant surprise!!! Right on our doorstep and yet I have not frequented the reserve before. It was so easy to get into the reserve, staff were helpful and friendly and it was a day that was really relaxing to view the game and try to spot those elusive cheetahs. Visit the picknic spot, it is so tranquil but get there early if you want a good spot. The old farm house now operating as a restautant needs some tlc. I see how specific little trinkets can produce a steady flow of cash for the reserve from those who want a souvenir.

Close to town but it feels like a small bush day. We rolled the windows down, followed gravel tracks along the water, and sat quietly when the plains opened up. A white rhino sighting turned the whole car into kids for five minutes. Picnic spots are simple and the light is lovely toward evening. You leave dust-coated and happy.

We had a wonderful time here. Saw quite a few different animals. Roads are also in good condition for all types of vehicles which is a big plus! We stopped at the coffee shop which served some really great food. Next time we will make use of the lovely braai facilities.

My girlfriends and I visited the nature reserve for horse riding, and we had such a wonderful time! Our guide, Slyvester, was an absolute gem — kind, patient, funny, and very knowledgeable. He answered all our questions about the horses with so much enthusiasm and made the whole experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. He even offered to take pictures for us, which we really appreciated. A memorable outing made even better by great service! You need to make a booking first though.

Nice nature reserve in Pretoria. Apparently the first proclaimed nature reserve in Africa. My son and I did the 10.5 km trail and it took us 3.5 hours (I’m so fit so this included rest stops of around 20 minutes) I would rate the trail as moderate - at the start is a bit climb and then you descend onto a contour path. At the 8km mark there’s another climb and from here on the path is rocky so it’s slower going. We saw zebra, ostriches and a sable antelope. Sunblock and good hat are essential as there’s little shade for most of the walk. Take your own refreshments and food as there’s no place to buy them in the reserve. The parking lot is small so go early. The picnic spots are well equipped with tables, braai stands and water taps.

This is a beautiful and pristine nature reserve. We didn’t see any animals this time, but we will be back again 💕 We planned to take the white line, but unfortunately the signs were not clear! There are picnic areas and stables in this area. The parking area is not as large as Google reviews say (maybe there weren't many people visiting today, at least that's not what I saw)

Tried the 4x4 trail today, lots of fun, normal 4x4 is fine, you don’t need a lift kit, although on certain section, it would probably encourage more confidence

We doing the 10km trail. Started at 1245 about 30 min per km. It gets rocky and hilly the last 2km which takes the longest. Do not litter, there are bins along the way. Saw plenty of bottle caps which I picked up and put in bin. We completed at 17:15

R58 pp entrance fee, you pay at the gate before going in and the security guard gives you a map of the trail. My husband and I did the yellow trail (10.5km) and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The elevation on the trail was mentally challenging, but we did it! If you are not fit, or have never hiked in your life - it will be very tough but it's doable. I would highly recommend it. We even got to see some animals mid-hike.

We went for an 11 km hike. The place was quite scenic, an easy hike. The reward was you can stroll around the market after that.

Amazing hiking trail. The 11km route is steady and different vs a couple of years ago. Easy to follow and no hectic steep climbs - just lovely leisurely walking. Visiting the Fourways Farmer's Market post the hike is a must for a great snacks and relaxation.

Really nice hiking trail, the 5k is good one for beginners. But there is no real elevation so the 11k is not too difficult. The trail could be marked better. We saw a family walking with their stroller, there are a few spots where you would have to lift the stroller over but it is possible.

Stunning hiking trail. Try do the 11 km if you are able, very scenic and beautiful, a lot to see and well maintained. Not much elevation so a easier walk.

I go hike here over weekends, it's a bit busy, but there's always parking space and then the trails are not too busy either. Very well marked trails with multiple options for distances and escape routes if you change your mind halfway trough. Lovely restaurant for after the hike 👌 Flowers everywhere during the rainy season!! 🌼 🌸 🌻 🌹

Did the 11 KM walking route. Fairly easy, no inclines. It was well marked for the most part. The views are serene, but nothing out of the ordinary. The dams are beautiful. Didn't run into any "wild life". May try again for a picnic. The road inside is very poorly maintained, depending on which entrance you used, so you have to drive carefully even with an SUV.

I am not sure why there are only 5 stars available for the review, I would give it a solid 8 stars. We aren't even finished with our stay and I am reviewing it. We have been on plenty of really nice weekend getaways, but this outshines everything we have done so far. The hospitality is next level, the food is outstanding, the massages are to die for. The peace and tranquility has filled our souls to another level. At first glance it may appear to be a little pricey for a weekend getaway, but believe me when I say, it is absolute value for money. The experience you get here is priceless. It has been years since I have been this relaxed and pampered.

Spent a lovely romantic night with my wife Room was lovely with a friendly welcome when we arrived. We had a spa massage which was really good, a few little things would make it 5 star not 4 star the massage therapists were superb . The hotel was quiet and very private we stayed in one of the river cottages and the exclusivity was perfect for our stay. We also ordered a picnic basket although I thought it had too much food in it and the combination did not really work for us and I think we selected the wrong option and a little over priced but other than that overall a great experience with friendly staff.

We visited Lethabo Estate for our anniversary, and it was truly unforgettable! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such warmth and genuine hospitality. The surroundings are breathtaking – peaceful, lush, and perfect for a romantic getaway. Our accommodation was spotless, beautifully decorated, and every little detail made us feel special. The venue is vintage and beautiful, it is private and tranquil with the sound of the river in the background. Sightings of little monkeys and lizards just added to the scenery. The stunning cottage is warm and cozy and it was perfect for a romantic outing, the food was great and more than enough for 2. The whole experience was quite amazing. It's a must visit again ♥️ 💫

This place is amazing! A great escape from the city. You can go solo or even a couple. The staff are friendly and it is not too busy so make sure to go before people discover this hidden gem 💎 They offer excellent relaxation and food. The spa was a 10/10 alongside the service at the restaurant. They do offer amazing picnic options, which can be a great next to the river. It is also pet friendly.

We've absolutely loved this romantic hidden gem, exactly what me and my husband needed for a weekend away. Everything about this destination is romantic and surely you will fall in love again with your partner. It was only a pleasure staying in the Kingfisher Loft, we've enjoyed our privacy. What a beautiful and wonderful place to visit. Especially with the interactive center where children can experience some of the things of the Voortrekkers. The dress code of the people working there was lovely Plenty of caffe's and pitststops whilst walking. The monument was mesmerizing and it really is worth it going all the way up to have a birds eye view of Pretoria.

Worth visiting, history, mesmerizing art work, beauty of location, colonization british era...,i learned a lot about the history of south Africans,dutch/zulus, hiking trails are not well marked so please go with map or gps

Driving up, the building sits on its hill like it was made for long horizons. Inside is denser than you expect, with careful displays and quiet side rooms that make you take your time. We climbed to the upper levels, leaned on the rail, and let the city and ridges spread out beneath us. Outside, the grounds are tidy and good for a slow stroll. It is a visit that lands without rushing you along.

Have over the years caught glimpses of the huge edifice of the Voortrekker Monument that is conspicuously visible from almost all directions around the hill on which the granite structure and its huge complex is built. Undertook an impulsive visit to the Schanskop Fort located in the same precinct, and ventured into the Transvaal Voortrekker Museum, adjacent the Complex Reception / Ticket office. Was impressed by the management and maintenance of the cultural complex, and especially the efforts undertaken to preserve and secure the historical artifacts.

Voortrekker Monument takes you back in time. It’s neat, clean and well maintained. Hiking up to the view point and museum was easy.

Went for the Saturday Parkrun, loved the vibe and route, the music and energetic spirit. The gardens are beautiful, cute coffee shops and restaurant based on a school classroom theme, traditional menu based on SA"s favorites like "braaibroodjies" and "melktert" at very reasonable prices. Well worth a visit.

The monument is grand inside and out, with enough detail to reward a slow lap—carvings, the central hall, and the view from the top if you’ve got the legs. The small museum gives useful context without dragging on, and the grounds are tidy. We paired it with nearby Fort Schanskop for quick ramparts and wide views. Parking is easy, signage is clear, and you can do both in under two hours if you’re efficient. Take water; the sun bounces off that granite.

Amazing experience for the family. Unexpected engagement with snakes which they kids and I loved. Food at Neck and Deck restaurant was exceptional. I suggest an early arrival, take time out to enjoy all thats on offer. For the first time we actually ran out of time despite arriving at 11am. Highly recommended.

Absolute bliss! Saw wild dogs, lions, cheetah feedings . Loved the experience. Had personal interactions with the giant snakes as well. Kids loved seeing all the animals in their natural habitats. We didnt get to feed sky the giraffe as we were late. We saw rhinos up close and personal. Baby hippos , plenty squirrels and beautiful big cats . Also location is an hour and half from home. A mini Kruger park in our back yard. 😍

Although we were late for our 9am game drive , the amazing staff kindly rescheduled us to 12pm- talk about great service 👐🏾🙌🏾 The Wondercave tours run every hour, and our guide was an absolute gem - knowledgeable, friendly and hilarious 😂. The caves themselves are breathtaking and definitely the highlight of the trip . A must -add to your bucket list list The lion , Cheetah and wild dog feeding are super popular , so if you’re doing a self drive , arrive early to get a good spot for viewing . Overall a perfect weekend outing for all ages - nature lovers , adventure lovers and just creating unforgettable memories

It was a wonderful experience, from the very helpful and polite employees to the animals and the reserve, this reserve is excellent. The Wonder cave was so amazing and stunning, and the young guide explained everything so nicely and made the visit even more interesting than it already was. However it's a shame that we can't do the interactions with the cubs anymore 😕. But except from that everything was great.

I only went to the restaurant, giraffe and bird enclosure. We ate a variety of pizzas and they were excellent. Crispy base, delicious toppings. One suggestion, maybe have a selection of chilli sauces to spice them up rather than just Tabasco.

Wonderful experience for a family of 5. The private game drive was worth the extra cost. Our guide was very engaging and knowledgeable. We saw 3 of the big 5. No Elephants at this reserve, and only 1 Giraffe at the feeding station.

Quite a huge nature reserve in Gauteng. Been there for a hike, few animals in the reserve. There are more than 10 trail routes that can give you quite a stretch to more than 30kms. Trials markings not that visible. Very easy to loose your marked trial. The map is also not user friendly to read the trail. Have the trial app to navigate unless you will walk the whole day. Parking space not big as it can be packed till the outside of the reserve! For hike. Be there at 6:00.

It was a beautiful Saturday morning! A friend and I decided to hike at Klipriver, its been one of the hiking trails I've wanted to visit for awhile and I'm glad I did. It was beautiful, there are good things and not so good things about this place. The good 1. Its free and beautiful. 2. There are a few wild animals to see along the way. 3. The trails are easy at some points and challenging at others so a good overall workout for all levels of fitness. 4. The people are very friendly. 5. The trails itself is pretty safe. 6. There are guards on duty. The not so good 1. Parking is a real issue. If you arrive late, you will park on the side of the road. There has been history of cars being stolen so just take the necessary precautions. 2. There are toilets but no toilet paper and its no the cleanest. 3. The trail markings are not clear and you can definitely get lost on your first visit. They are attempting to paint the markings but its work in progress. 4. The trail map at the entrance is also washed out so you are basically just following someone or just walking until you find your way back really. Overall it was a lovely experience and I would do it again thanks to a very kind gentleman who frequents those trails and showed us the way so that we did not get lost.

Decided to stop by since I was in the area. I got to enjoy some time outdoors while getting a few chapters in. This park is clean and well maintained. It also seems really safe with security presence. I also saw some dog owners taking their fur babies for a walk. There are lots of trees and it's a great setting for an impromptu picnic. You could also sit on a bench next to the pond and this spot would be perfect if you needed to ponder about your current debacles. Definitely visit to see for yourself.

We have been spending Womansday with our friends and family at this park for 14 years. We call it the Fairy Park because to us its magical with all its nooks and babbling water. Over all well maintained though the toilets could do with a bit of work.

It’s a beautiful park. It’s quite big and spacious. Family and dog friendly. There’s lots of trees, grass area, and plants. There’s also a waterfall and pond with fish. It’s great for picnics. It’s quiet, tranquil and safe. It’s just hard to find taps/drinking water and the restrooms aren’t cleaned or well maintained.

Yohhh what a beautiful scenery, an absolutely beautiful well maintained park. Very quite so many ample shaded space... We sat next to the mini waterfalls so the sound of water was so refreshing... A phenomenal experience overall

Just got back from a family picnic. Beautiful park with loads of shade and lawns for days. Lovely benches everywhere and the most spectacular little stream running through the park with the sound of water in the back ground. Huge fish pond with stunning Koi's. Bathrooms are basic, but adequate - could use a little TLC though. Very well kept public park, which is rare in South Africa.

Magnolia Dell, located close to the Pretoria CBD, is among the best-maintained municipal parks in the Metro. With the Walkerspruit flowing through the park, it is almost always in pristine.condition, with inviting lush, manicured lawns. A great place to take kids to enjoy the playground equipment, one could carry a picnic basket or grab a meal from a great restaurant within the park.

It's a refreshing park with water flowing and there is a restaurant nearby which is over looking the playground for the kids, which has swings and all the things that children even adults can play those games coz i also enjoyed the swing. Drinking is also prohibited on site and well there is a policeman that does rounds just to check if people aren't drinking.

I love this park. Magnolia Dell Park is a clean, well-maintained park conducive to chilling out. Today there were a lot of activities for people to celebrate the Christmas holidays. It is a safe place for people of all ages. It's a clean place for kids to play around. We had some fun and enjoyed ourselves. It's also conducive for picnics, birthday 🎂 celebrations and many more.

Wonderful newly restored park in Pretoria East with an outside restaurant full of warmth and arty people. Owned by the Brewer family famous also for their ice cream store. You can walk and run here or take the kids to the small playground. Great for dogs.

People breaking bylaws of drinking and braaiing in park. No parking for regular customers avail. Considering alternative eateries. Not safe in parking lot. Park a mess through littering over weekends. Repair to stream banks were a flop and waste of money. Better planning needed. Cover needed on pipe box, poses a safety risk.

This is the closest park to me so I like it a lot. Quite open with different sides. If you want a parkrun, picnic, playing with your dog, a walk, I've seen people fishing, playing with your kids and just a quiet time to read a book. It's quite a good park.

One of my absolute favorite spots to unwind and relax. It's beautifully maintained and offers something for everyone. If you're looking for peace and solitude or want to enjoy a quiet picnic, head to the lakeside. For families, there's a great playground for kids. The whole place is scenic, with stunning trees and breathtaking views—truly stellar. The only downside is that the toilets aren't easy to find, especially near the lake area. Other than that, it's a fantastic spot!

Kudos to Johannesburg Parks for maintaining this place and rendering open spaces for people to visit, picnic, braai, walk dogs and fish. As a rate payer its encouraging. They do a great job maintaining the place. If you visit please respect nature and take more trash out than you came with - its about respect

Overall a good, well maintained park with a lovely dam. Best to visit during busier time in groups for safety. Lots of shady trees and good picnic spots. We saw some people fishing at the dam. The dam also has a few ducks.

What I like about the park is it is large and gives you a sense of privacy and solitude even though you are relatively safe and have people close enough in a case of an emergency. Plenty to do for the whole family. An outdoor gym, great play park for the children as well as a soccer field. I have heard this is also a good spot for angling. A viable location for a novice hike.Security at the gate is really friendly. A great off the leash adventure for friendly four legged friends. I just wish the people making use of this park as a picnic and braai spot would pick up after themselves.

Great place by the zoo lake braai area. I appreciated the help by the guys who are there to assist with making the fire, at a price of course but it was useful. Those parking marshalls are now making a business out of the parking , charging people R20 to R30 just to park ? But they won't even help when its time for you to leave with your car ?coz they had already taken your money and didn't care?

Such a relaxing place. However there website is incorrect. It says open 7 days a week. We went on a Monday. Could not do paddle boats. My kids were very disappointed. It was closed. Shops closed as well. Other than that it is very tranquil. Kids enjoyed kicking a ball around and it has beautiful surroundings. Will go back, hopefully they will be open. Has a basket ball courts and is safe if you with a big crowd. Beautiful place to do photography.

Thokoza Park is my go-to spot, it’s conveniently located and has a lots of features like picnic spots, benches, a quaint stream, and braai areas. While Thokoza Park offers much, the state of the water stream is a concern. Despite park cleaning efforts elsewhere, the stream unfortunately remains littered. Addressing this through consistent maintenance would significantly enhance the park's overall appeal. The lack of evening lighting in certain areas creates safety concerns, particularly during shorter winter days. Installing well-placed lighting would significantly improve security and encourage broader park use throughout the day. Children using the park are at risk for injury from some of the broken swings. Making their repair a top priority would guarantee that everyone had a fun and safe experience.

This place lost dignity and care. It's dirty, filthy full of rubbish and people drinking alcohol, peeing on grass and trees. Awful

The park is a true natural beauty, it's just a bit neglected, as some rides are broken and unsafe for young kids. A beautiful place overall, please keep an eye on your young ones and guide them to safer rides

Was a splendid weather, but saw a lot of unpleasing scenerios while there. Like kids smoking Hubble's, cigarettes and drinking alcohol in public which I thought was rude of them. But overall it was a chilled day, met friendly people, had a proper jol with people

The park it's self was awesome. However the police that came at 5PM ended the fun family day in a very disturbing manner. Tonight myself and my family go to sleep again not impressed to be South African because of being treated the way we were. The police could have chosen to speak to the community but they chose to carry on like they were moving sheep from the garden.

One of the best picnic spots in Soweto, made special for friends, family and couples. Great park to host any events or better yet tie the knot at! Clean and safe park.

It used to be one of the best oldest parks back then in the 90s, but now it's no longer safe, day in and day out

I heard it used to be one of the best parks in soweto,but down the line they've been bad reports of people being mugged,raped and even killed.i guess it safer during the day but make sure you don't visit or pass through alone especially women and children

Highly recommended for any special occasion you have in mind be it with any relation group discription, this park is legit really hard to leave hey... no matter the weather it's always a great atmosphere to be in. Safe and clean and kids friendly.

It's a very very very dangerous park.There a no securities,people get robbed,killed and dumped there. There are many cases about that park but still bad things happen. I advice that these matters should be taken seriously and the must be security to ensure that everyone is safe.so that we can all enjoy being there without worrying about being robbed or being killed. It's a nice park take care of it!!

Fun, chill and relaxed place to be at

Very beautiful, quiet, and serene... paid less than R100 for entrance of car and self-drive. You get a map if it's your first time. There's a few "hidden" spots for extra silence and just listening to nature. Also a play areas and braai area by the river bank. Fun for everyone

Went on a Rooikat volunteer snare removal walk in the reserve (highly recommended), so I didn't spend a lot of time on a trail or road. The park is well maintanted and beautiful. It's a perfect spot for birdwatchers, or just for a fun casual family lunch in the picnic area.

Peaceful, animals are running around. I was looking for an escape from the buzzle and I found it.

What a lovely gem this place it . I was here for the trail , it's more of a walk then a hike .The trail is largely flat and filled with lush vegetation and great views. If you need a place to clear your head this may be it . The trail is a 7km loop so no matter where you behind that's where you will end your walk. Trail is well marked so you won't get lost . Bring water as I didn't see any taps there . If you lucky you will see a lot of wild life without having to stray of the path .

Good choice if you like to rough it. No proper bathrooms, but they do have decent long drops in brick buildings. The dam is kept pretty clean. Camping sites are clean. We thoroughly enjoyed the weekend away from the everyday hustle. No electricity. Taps with running water close to camping sites.

We came for a day visit at the picnic / fishing grounds. The park itself is not that well maintained as there are a lot of grass and bush, however the campgrounds and fishing spots are wide open space with fireplaces, ablutions and lapas making it very convenient to set up. The dam is clean, but the common water hyacinth can become annoying and ruin your fishing experience when the wind is blowing the wrong direction. The entrance fee is well priced making it one of the few places that does not cost a fortune just for getting out for a day.

A good place to go for a braai, date or picnic. Kid-friendly there’s a pony the kids can ride I would recommend you bring your own picnic chairs/blankets as it’s just open land with not many seating areas Bring your own food aswell There’s an entrance fee R44 for adults They’ve got toilets aswell Fun for a day out

It's a really great place to visit. The entrance is R40 per person. There is security at the entrance. You can take a lovely walk around the area and see the animals. There's plenty of trees that create shaded areas where you can have a braai and picnic. The area is bigger than it appears to be so walk/drive around until you find a spot you like. They have buck that roam freely. The rest of the animals are in enclosures (sheep, goats, birds, turtle, rabbits, pigs, ostriches, horses and chickens). You can feed them fresh fruit and vegetables. There is a reptile park that has a variety of snakes, crocs, rock and water monitors, spiders, scorpions, gecko and more. It is open from 8am until midnight (the security at the gate confirmed that they're open until midnight although the signs say they close at 4pm, so you can ignore those). There are no stores or restaurants so bring your own refreshments. It is family friendly and safe and has a playground for kids. It is clean, well maintained and has bins available all around.

Really cool spot. Big area to play, with big trees for shade. Make sure to be early, or bring a Gazebo for shade. Great place to let the kids run free or ride bikes safely. Reptile park is well worth the entry fee alone. Great variety and very well looked after. Men's toilets need a little work.

A cute family place for a chill Sunday and braai. Only R40 entrance for adults and R17 for kids. Animals & reptiles for kids to see. Also pony rides for kids. A lot of space with braai stands

Great place for the whole family. There's a petting zoo, play area, braai areas and lots of trees that cast shade. Take sunscreen as the play area and zoo has very little shade. Entrance fee is quite cheap. Great place for a children's party. Paid under R50 for both my daughter and myself.

Beautiful open spaces and they have some farm animals that is well taken care of and a snake and reptile exhibit. If you are looking for a picnic place, braai with the family away from home this place is ideal.

Well kept clean safe environment with historical monuments of our country

The Union Buildings in Pretoria are South Africa’s most iconic landmark, set high on Hill with beautiful terraced gardens and panoramic views of the city. they’re home to the President’s offices. Visitors can stroll through the gardens, view memorials, and admire the impressive statue of Nelson Mandela at the forefront.

Terraced lawns step you up to a view that slows your breathing. The statue feels welcoming rather than grand, and sandstone curves catch light in a way that makes every photo look intentional. We wandered the gardens, read a few plaques, and sat on warm steps longer than we meant to. It’s a place that handles both ceremony and everyday life—wedding photos in one corner, a picnic in another, a quiet pause on a bench in between. We left feeling lighter and a little proud.

Attended the recent Friends of the Zoo fun walk with a friend and we really enjoyed ourselves. The information boards can do with some upgrades, and I would have liked to know the stories behind who the animals are and why they are there. All things considered the animals seem well-cared for and I will definitely be going there again.

It is always wonderful to walk around the zoo. There are plenty of animals to see, there are however some enclosures that does not have any animals in as they are under construction. All animals are well looked after. There is information boards on some of the enclosures, I really wished there was more information boards regarding the animal that is kept in the enclosure. There are enough toilets which are neat and clean. There are big open grass areas where you can have a picnic. There are also benches all over the zoo where you can sit and look at the animals. I did however wait for the shark feeding time and talk, but no one showed up and I left after 15min. Was a bit disappointed as I was looking forward to seeing how the sharks gets feeded. The shops only have basic items like cooldrink, water, ice cream and small packet of chips. The restaurant has a view items on the menu that you can choose from. The parking R30 is very safe as no hawkers are allowed inside the gate. They are transitioning into a cashless environment. Overall I had a great time and it was wonderful to see these amazing creatures up close.

It was a good experience. R100 adults & R70 kids. When we attended, there was an ongoing event and a big crowd. There was ample parking and plenty of security looking after the cars. The Zoo staff were friendly and there were no queues, we went on a Sunday. We had a good day overall. The Zoo is huge, there are golf carts for use to drive around should you prefer. I think because of the event, the cleanliness was an issue. We saw a few animals. There is also an aquarium and farm animals.

Although I’m typically not a fan of zoos, the Pretoria zoo was a day well spent. It is clear that the wellbeing of the animals is being prioritized as they all appear healthy and are active and animated. Most have large enclosures that replicate their natural environment (and most appear to have company or “friends” with very few lone animals). Considering the circumstances, it’s understandable that the zoo does not have many refreshment options, and the infrastructure is a little worn (some peeling paint, and apparent age of some of the structures). The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, the bathrooms are clean, and the zoo is well kept. The natural landscape of the zoo is stunning and the river flowing through the zoo is a sight to behold. There’s a lovely path behind the lion enclosures that take you to lookout points that show the Pretoria skyline and a good view of the Lion and Tiger enclosures. We went in spring so we were lucky enough to see quite a few baby animals. I hope they receive the support needed to restore the zoo! They are clearly doing the best they can with the unfortunate circumstances they’ve been dealt.

I recently visited the National Zoological Gardens in Pretoria and was thoroughly impressed! The zoo is home to a stunning array of animals, from majestic lions and giraffes to adorable penguins and playful monkeys. The gardens are beautifully maintained, with plenty of shade and picnic areas to relax. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the various shows and exhibits add an extra layer of fun to the visit. A must-visit attraction for animal lovers and families alike!

Nice relaxed walk on a functioning farm. See the cows, chickens and ducks. 2 restaurants on site. A deli to purchase milk, yogurt, pies, ice cream and much more. Beautiful gardens to relax in under the trees. They just planted over 100 rose busses so excited to see them all in flower. Kids play areas

The venue features two restaurants, a variety of farm animals, and a local dairy offering fresh products such as ginger beer, pies, koeksisters, cream cheese, and more. My children absolutely love this place, especially because of the cows, animals, ponds, fish, ducks, and farm machinery.

What a refreshing outing! Irene Farm is a standout 'farm in the city' experience. I really enjoyed the Sunday hangout, good tasted good and though it was packed, the waitress tried by all means to reach out to us. The facilities are perfect for a Sunday brunch with family and the kids.

We spend the day at Irene farm. Very beautiful and great for the kids to see how a dairy farm works. All was fine till we went to THE BARN. Not really anything to get excited about. Food was tasty but took long. Staff not in a hurry. Our waitress Nocisebo looks upset to assist,rolling her eyes if asked we something and really not in a hurry to be helpfull.I must mention we where quite a big table. Some burgers where half dressed with garnish as if they could not care and just wanted to get rid of us. Great atmosphere but not worth the time to eat at the BARN if staff don't care. The main shop is great and made the day a better experience.

Visited today again after 5 years, i was scared away after the attacks at the hide and cars being stolen. Security has now been introduced, and new fencing with entry-gate that they control has been erected. You have too sign in now. The hide is still in a great condition and well looked after. Sadly the birdlife-sightings is very low and many summer-birds is gone that was always easy too see/photograph in the "old"days. Water is very muddy/dirty, with lots of algy growing/floating on the surface. Was wandering what the reason could be, as Pta has lots of rain recently.

Nice bird hide, nice place to visit. Do struggle to get access to the rest of the park as you apparently need an appointment, but the document at the gate states you only need appointments for guided tours. Think summer months will be better to visit as bird activity isn't great. Update: the bird life changes from day to day, some days i see nothing special other days i get kingfishers

Stressed, go for a stroll around Austin Roberts or dit on the deck of the Blue Crane restaurant and have something to drink and eat while watching the birds having a ball on and around the dam. Take many stunning bird photos. Its a real peaceful place to be in the heart of the very busy Pretoria

Awesome place for birding...Very well kept and has nice hides...There is a car guard where you park and a restaurant nearby...I would reccomend it to anybody that likes birding or photography.

Melville Koppies Nature Reserve surprised me with how “properly wild” it feels for a spot so close to the city. The rocky ridges give you honest climbs and rewarding views of Joburg, and the fynbos and grasses make the paths feel like real veld rather than a manicured park. I liked the sense of history too—you’re walking through an area with archaeological significance, and guided mornings add useful context without dragging on. Trails are short to moderate but can be steep and stony, so wear decent shoes and bring water. There’s minimal infrastructure on the Koppies West and Central sides—no cafés, limited benches—so plan for a self-sufficient outing. Wayfinding is better on the guided days; on self-guided visits, stick to marked paths and take it slow on the loose sections. Safety felt fine during the guided group walk; for solo or small self-guided visits, I’d go earlier in the day and keep to busier routes. Parking near the designated entrances worked for us, and the volunteer team was friendly and organised. If you enjoy birding, bring binoculars—sunbirds and raptors make regular cameos—and a small backpack keeps hands free for the scrambles. Overall, Melville Koppies is a great “close-to-town nature hit” that still feels raw and authentic. Come for an hour or two, expect dust on your shoes and a bit of leg burn, and you’ll leave with wide views and a calmer head. I’d recommend it to walkers who like short, scenic trails, photographers chasing city-and-koppie shots, and anyone wanting a quick reset without driving out of Joburg.

In the heart of the City, Melville Koppies will take you back to the natural surroundings as they were 500 years or so ago: where "indigenous" means indigenous to the area, and not the country. To hike here is to recover the sights and sounds, the birds and other creatures of the ecosystem largely as it was before gold fever swept the landscape away. Its a tribute to the small group of volunteer activists whose vision keeps it alive, and the band of of volunteers whose labour and sweat makes it happen.

Incredible place. The guided tour was great. David had so many interesting facts about the biodiversity and history of Melville Koppies. There was security provided and parking at Melville Sports club. Walk is relatively easy. Fascinating place!

I was so impreesed with this magnificent little gem of a reserve in the heart of busy Johannesburg. Run by a group of volunteers who have really made an effort to make it safe and accessible. A map is provided at the gate, the routes are very clearly marked and there were security staff visible and friendly on several spots along the trails. Beautiful natural scenery with even a little stream and stunning views. across Jhb. A small piece of paradise. Well worth a visit and support.

A pleasant and relaxing space. Potential visitors should be informed to wear old dirty shoes - the grass areas and pathways can be very muddy and or dusty. The experience could be much improved if benches were available to sit on - currently no place to sit and rest and enjoy the views - visitors feel rather rushed wich is a shame.

You have to come here to see this beauty yourself. Tons of beautiful sculptures, and most are changed frequently. I decided not to take pictures of them so that you're motivated to come here. There are beautiful linen clothing items for sale. Affordable and stylish. There are some art books also for sale. Both by the facility owners. The rivers/pond have wildlife. It's a safe park! The price is nothing for the peace of mind one enjoys there. Restaurant and Cafe (if you forgot to book) has food and drinks. Tons of parking and lots of welcome walking to do. I hope this place lives on and continues as it is.

A hidden gem, beautiful scenery. Had lunch with colleagues after doing some painting. The place is worth visiting although I didn't get to view all the sculptures I think one would enjoy a meal or drinks with some company.

We spent the day here for the Nirox Sculpture Winter Fair. Beautiful, peaceful property with art pieces all over the park. Grass path was a bit muddy in some places. Great venue for events with loads of space so lots of people can attend and it doesn't feel crowded. Loved the cover with the hay bales to sit for the orchestra. Huge property that can be explored and the map was handy.

Very scenic / breathtaking. I did attend an event here with my family and will definitely look forward to returning for more breath taking views and delicious food.

Magical experience exploring the park and getting lost in well manicured nature. The grass was so soft I took my shoes off and walked the entire time. Probably The best kept gem I’ve ever walked in South Africa

Beautiful little nature reserve. We came here many times about 30 years ago, and probably never realised what gem this is. And it is arguably better kept than back in the day - I even saw some impala roaming. Entrance fee is only R21 and gives you the opportunity to experience a unique piece of nature in the middle of the city.

This is a great hiking/ trail to walk. Different routes for different fitness levels witch is great. One can easily walk with children, dogs , family or run if you come for exercise. It's really available as well. I'm not giving a 5 star as I feel staff and management can better. Otherwise a wonderful place.

The Faerie Glen Nature Reserve is a good place to go for a weekend walk with friends. There are also allocated areas for picnics if that's something you'd like to do. I enjoyed the 4.5km hike/walk that takes you up onto the mountain. My friends and I were lucky enough to see some zebras up close as well. You should definitely give the reservation a try.

So we decided to do the 4,1 km trail, easypeazy, not by far. It is a well outlaid track. The steep down hills is tough on the knees. The sight seeing from the top is excellent. Next time I'll take binoculars with. I noticed there will be a river cleaning exercise somewhere in July. Well worthwhile.

Some challenging hills on the 4.2km Kiepersol trail (longest and rated ‘difficult’) with great views at the top. The second hill summit can be bypassed or reached by a ‘scramble track’ but a lack of signage near the very top can lead to walking around it rather than onto the rocky top. Very rocky paths at times on the hills so walk carefully, especially going downhill. We spotted a Zebra family down on the ‘flat’ from the Faerie Glen Lookout and they were still there when we came down. Toilet facilities are in the entrance building only.

If you want a quick hike without driving far, this is the one. The trails are short but some bits are steeper than they look, so you do feel like you earned the view at the top. From the ridge you can see across Pretoria East, which is pretty cool for the effort. We spotted a couple of small antelope and loads of birds. You do need proper shoes and water, especially in the hotter hours, because parts of the path are rocky and open sun. It’s also dog-friendly in certain areas (on lead), which is a win. Parking was straightforward and staff at the gate were friendly. I’d go again.

Went for a 10km walk/hike with my son, what a beautiful sunny autumn day. Plenty to do here for the whole family and rates are very reasonable. The hike was easy and nature delivered lots of pretty butterflies and trees. Loved it.

The hiking trails are really nice... You literally feel like you are in a different environment or country even. This is a place for families of all ages. The atmosphere is welcoming and there are different activities for everyone ... Absolutely love this place!

Really enjoyed my visit to Rietvlei Zoo Farm! The place is clean, the animals look well taken care of, and the staff are friendly. There are also some extra activities you can do for an additional cost, which makes the trip even more fun if you’re looking for a bit more to do. Great spot for families or anyone looking to spend a relaxing day outdoors!

Very safe parking and I love that there's so much going on. From a car wash, park runs to lapas for hire. The hiking trails are also not super challenging and worth checking out.

Perfect family orientated place. We went there specifically for mountain cycling. The track is clearly marked and impossible for one to get lost. The terrain requires serious mountain bikes, as there are lot of rough roads and rocks that can damage the bike or you get injured. Only for the brave. The prices are reasonable and you can grab a coffee when done with amenities There are options to hike, walk your dog etc.

A great hiking/biking trail with some of the best views. It is a well maintained nature reserve that offers unforgettable memories. The trails are properly marked and the place is very clean. They open very early, weekday visiting hours are 7:00 to 16:00 and 18:00 on weekends. 3 trails 1. Bokmakierie trail which has 3 options 10km and 11,5km & 2. Cheater trail, which is 4,5km 3. 17km

Big skies, long loops, and the feeling you’ve actually left the city. We did one of the shorter circular hikes and still got broad grassland views, antelope sightings, and that quiet you only get when the road noise drops away. Trails are well marked and the gradients are honest but manageable. Take plenty of water, a hat, and decent shoes—there’s limited shade on the ridges. Facilities at the gates are basic but fine. If you like the idea of a “proper” hike without a long drive, this is an easy yes.

Provincial government is not fulfilling their mandate: - Day trails are badly eroded. - Overnight trails are closed. - Eland overnight hut fire damaged. - Holhoek picnic site is closed. - Ouhout Group Camp is closed. - Tourist Route road tar is not maintained, roadside grass not cut creating dangerous bends especially for cyclists. - Paved paths are overgrown and not maintained. - Water feature not working. - Medicinal garden overgrown, signage missing. - Educational dioramas in main building closed and damaged by water leaks. - fence in terrible condition, game regularly gets out and causes accidents. - Western gate burnt down (were firebreaks in place?) - Protea Hotel and pool closed. - Kareekloof resort and pools closed. - firebreaks never completed on time resulting in unplanned fires. NEVERTHELESS the scenery is still magnificent and there are still some animals to be seen. Renovation of Kiepersol Chalets and toilets in parking area said to be almost complete.

We enjoyed a 11.5km hike which took us 3:30mins. The reserve opens a 7am with a Card only system.No cash is accepted. The pathways are marked out but they can cut some of the bush , although there is alot of clear views. We didnt see any animals along the path but did see some animal dung. The toilets were clean and the place is well kept. The museum is a nice walk for those who want to reminisce.

Enjoyed the 10,8km hike. Nature at its best , quite a moderate hike with challenging elevations. Stuff so friendly and give best advices. Only did the hike and could not explore other things in the nature reserve.

It was a beautiful weekend. Went on a 10km hike with my friends. The trail? doable but the steepness? One really needs good hiking shoes, a walking stick, a hat, enough water & sunscreen. 100% enjoyed it.

We were so exited to take our little to experience what we did as kids. I was so sad and disappointed ons the lack of maintenance and animals at the bokkie park. It would be better if they charged a fee at the entrance and it went to the upkeep and animals of the park. I wish someone can take it over and give it a revamp. There is so much potential! There were lots of ducks, a few pigs, ostriches and some goats but the goats you can’t reach because of the pathways being washed away, and under water.

What a awesome little park. Great venue with lots of slides for the kids to play on. Pond, trees, train and so much more to look at. Love the houses and rabbits. Oh no a few years back the animals ,the place and the tuckshop was open. No one talked to us. We asked a security for seeds or food for animals..all closed. The train has broken windows the whole place is going down. The staff all over sitting or standing in the sun. Cant see that there where food . The goats saw a bakkie walked uo and when bakkie went out by the gate all the goats turned around. Sad to see this place going doen hill.

This park is very well maintained with a wide range of domesticated animals. The craft market on the 1st Saturday of each month is a must-visit!

Trails are beautiful, picnics are fine. But there is rubbish along the trails, and by the fort. Bathrooms need cleaning, wasn't enough toilet paper for the whole day. There should be a rule for no loud music, we were greatly disturbed by someone's loud music. But it's a nice place, and worth the money you pay to enter.

It was an alright trail. It had some good views. Although it wasPoorly marked we had gone somewhere and it led us to a gate. The waterfall promised was from a pipe and you couldn't even see it properly it was behind a fence. Disappointed.

Always a pleasure visiting the wonderboom. Unfortunately the place is not very well kept and the staff doesn’t look very enthusiastic. Great place for a short hike: in just over an hour you can do a round-trip visiting the fort and the waterfall. It’s not really signposted, but the path is relatively clear and there are not too many options to get lost - except perhaps closer to the waterfall where a little more guesswork is involved.

Fun and Challenging, not short of amazing views because I’am a first time “ Hiker” hopefully I’ll consider being a full one.

We had a nice hike in a historical nature reserve that is nestled on the northern side of Pretoria city. Right in front of Wonderboom Junction shopping mall. The trail was not long, only 3.9 km. But if you want to get back home in one piece, better not to wear sneakers. The rocks were slippery and steep. On top, you'll see Wonderboompoort ruins as part of the highlights of the Nature Reserve itself, apart from the 1,000-year-old Giant Wild Fig tree with its daughters that you can see at the starting point of the trail. We didn't see the waterfall; it closed. There's an entrance fee of R47 at the gate. I wish they'd provide more bathrooms inside the nature reserve, because the ones in the parking area; I guess that's a bit far from the hiking trail.

Short climb, lovely canopy, and that old fig with stories in its roots. We followed the path to the fort ruins and sat on warm rocks for a while. Easy outing if you want a touch of bush without leaving town.

If you are a dog lover who is looking for a place to take your 4-legged bestie, the Walkhaven is the place for you. Wide open space for them to run and 2 beautiful ponds for them to take a dip in. Lovey picnic places for the doggy parents to chill and braai. There is a restaurant that caters for breakfast or lunch and has a doggy menu too. There is also a market to buy doggy stuff as well. A very well-kept establishment. I was super impressed.

O love this dog park. My pups can roam freely, off leash, and mingle with other doggy friends while mom is having a snack at the restaurant. Walk around the ponds to experience tranquility with nature and share this with your best friend 🐕

I Loved it. My dog loved it. Just an overall great experience. The restrooms were clean, there is nice picnic and braai facilities. The Dog Box restaurant was amazing with their doggy menu. We had a great time there. Absolutely worth the R50pp entry fee.

The grounds and facilities are awesome. One of the better off leash parks EVER. What was not acceptable is the restaurant taking our order and ONE HOUR later only informing us that they ran out of stock. Waitress wanted to know if we'd like something else. Hmmmm . No. We left.

One of the best dogparks where socialized dogs can walk and run free. Our pack loves swimming so this is our go to place for them. R50 entree for human and R0 for pooches. All worth it.

First time visitor and I did not realize that most dogs are off leads. I kept my Rottweiler on a lead and stayed on the outer perimeter. There was a few close encounters but all well. On the way out I noticed 2 fenced areas and this might have been a better option. Loved the place and the setting.

The place is nice I used to love taking pictures at this place but now the place is a bit scary most of the benches are torn apart and you can have a decent picnic there The trees are still cool the biggest challenge is that there is no security in the park and you see alot of dodgy people sitting inside the park

The park is not very clean, it is very overgrown and not what it used to be, but it still has a good atmosphere!

The park is dirty and full of rubich and homeless people definitely not somewhere to take children unless you looking to get robed or murdered could be a nice place if someone just took care of it a little.

The first time I went to Springbok Park it was over grown and unkept, but in the meantime it has been looked after and cleaned up. They are also repairing the water feature, although the park is now trimmed, cut and cleared up it is still home to some of the homeless people who are part of the upkeep of the park. Fairly safe during the day but will not recommend going there after dark.

The park is not maintained. Overgrown grass. Weeds out of control Dirty, smelly and have vagrants living there. No playground equipment no benches.... very sad that the park is in such a bad state. Did not dare to venture into the restrooms.

This is such a beautiful place to have a chilled day and spend time with either friends and family while you enjoy the rides.I really had a great time with my family. Their pools are so clean and the area. If you wanna have a party or braai this is a great location.Take note that alcohol does not enter it is sold inside.

The kids had a blast here. Security was impatient with us and was busy gossiping about us with the other security because I couldn't understand where he wanted us to park. But the place is overall amazing, the food and slides, pools are great.

The place is beautiful, safe, and perfect for kids. However, it gets really packed, and it's difficult to find a spot to sit or put your towels. Even though there's an online booking system, it doesn't seem to help with crowd control. Aside from that, it's a lovely spot to visit!

They also have a rope course featuring 26 obstacles and 6 thrilling ziplines at an additional cost. They have lifeguards at all activity hubs ensuring safety. Open from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays only. Bring your food and cool drinks or buy from the bar and takeaway but alcohol can only be bought from the venue only. Important rules: No glass, breakables, music devices, pets, or alcohol allowed. Bags will be searched, and no passouts will be allowed

AMAZING!!. We held our school's farewell function for our 7th graders and they were beyond happy we're now the cool teachers thanks to this venue. The variety of slides was guaranteed fun for learners and the countless braaing facilities made the day a success. The life guards were on ground and pool duty monitoring the learners safety and also helped with providing first aid not to forget how some helped us with braaing since time was not on our side. The service is superb the Tuck shop has delicious ice-cream that got me buying more and more. Thanks to the owner for being patient with us. The learners are still talking about it to this day and the parents are also happy so it's a win win for us. This might just be our school's yearly farewell venue. 👏🏾👏🏾

Very sad with the deteriorating status of the park as it used to be one of the well looked after park in the inner city. Now there's crime taking place right in the park

Getting a bit rundown but still a great place to hangout during the day while in the city. Lawns are still tended and drinking water is available. Avoid the place during the night though

Awesome place. Never knew one could find such a beautiful gem in the heart of Pretoria. Food is amazing, with big portions and the staff so polite. Service is fast and prices are actually lower than most fast food joints!

Very much an old school museum, where a lot of things are well preserved. It nonetheless seems as if it could do with a bit of TLC and don’t expect too much active or interactive displays. The most remarkable thing is to see what modest life Jan Smuts must have led, despite the impact he’s had on world history. Serious Jan Smuts fans are sure to spend many hours there. The museum is well recommended for anyone that has even just a little interest in South African history.

The house feels lived-in, not staged, which makes the history land better. Rooms are full of books, personal objects, and small details that guides explain with warmth. The grounds are lovely for a slow loop afterward, with benches under generous trees. It’s an easy, unrushed hour or two. The on-site tea garden is a nice finish if you’re in weekend mode. I’d bring out-of-town visitors here—simple, authentic, and quietly memorable.

Every South African should visit this place. It holds incredible history, and I learned so much during my time here

Such a beautiful, historic and elegant venue for a matric photoshoot. The well kept grounds offer plenty of epic photo opportunities and the friendly staff are very enthusiastic about the work they do at this museum. And to top the session off, Ouma Issies coffee shop has scrumptious meals and great service.

What an interesting insight into South African history. We visited the museum after a lovely hike up the koppie. Seeing the rather humble life of a previous statesman whether one sees him as controversial or not, was worth it. Loved the kitchen and study. Stunning spaces !

Very nice place to spend 1-2 hours walking around the trails. Very safe! Family can go! Enough Parking! Trees, rocks, butterflies, birds! From top of the trail, you can see the city! Looks so beautiful! Peaceful!

The hike is about 2km. Intense climbing when you’re about to get to the top of the mountain but very worth it. You can do as many rounds as you wish. The trails are so visible and easy to find

Well-maintained and clean reserve despite it being free. There is a Park, braai area and 2.5km hiking trail. There is Toilets. Access controlled by security. We did the hike which has splendid views once you reach the peak.

Lovely winter's sunny morning walkabout at Rietfontein Nature Reserve. Very manageable, well marked one hour 2 km circular route at a slow pace. Wear closed shoes or hiking boots. Panoramic views of Jozi from the highest point. We spotted a crested barbet, love birds, hunting rock pigeon, black collared barbet, bulbul, mousebirds and weavers. Inspiring signs along the way. Large aloe ferox in bloom, agave plants and lots of indigenous trees. Table and chairs to picnic. Felt very safe and secure. Great way to get your heart pumping on a Saturday morning! Free entrance. Open 6am to 6pm.

Easy hike with a few short inclines, safe parking is available, and an open area to picnic as well. Great place to spend an hour or two hiking/picnicking with family or friends.

Lovely nature reserve to walk with the family/ solo. It's safe and well kept. Entry is free. Kids are able to walk the circuit without assistance.

Beautiful place, but not much to do. Looks like there is abandoned house just chilling there. The hike is like 1km it felt like. But there is great wild life I suppose

A lovely historical place to visit and experience some of South-Africas local history. Phone ahead of time to find out about the restaurant or planned picnics.

Absolute fabulous. Our tour guide friendly and knowledgeable. History is being preserved in a positive spirit. Garden absolutely amazing, toilets clean. Pack a picnic basket and bring the kids to enjoy the space and peace. 100% worth the outing!

Visited for the market day end of August. Beautiful gardens, magnificent house tour. Also charming concert by Deutsche School Pretoria, marimba, choir and brass ensemble. Market stalls small in number but some real gems available such as jams, marmalades and food. Best chicken prego i can remember. Strongly recommend you visit next market day.

We had an informative tour of the house for R65 per person and then got to explore the beautiful landscape. I would highly recommend visiting this historical house.

Not what it was 2 years ago. Still an interesting place to visit because of the incredible history.

Very interesting to visit this Victorian museum. Guided tour. Tea garden on property as well offering light meals at an affordable price. I recently had my birthday there and they provide picnic baskets. You can choose to sit at tables under the trees or blankets on the grass. Lovely setting and ideal for families with children.

Park is not being taken care of anymore. Plants and grass not well maintained.the fence has been damaged and no controlled access. It's not safe to be alone here. Neglected park

Once long ago this was a heavenly rose garden looks like a rubbish dump now. Everything destoyed by the wonderfull people running this country.

The park is okay to chill but some places on the park can make you feel unsafe and it's not so clean

It's an okay place to chill and be one with ones thoughts. It's never busy...veru quiet place to take the kids to. It has a swing for the little ones. Overall all it's a good park, though I don't think it has private facilities like the toilet and so on. I was there yesterday alone...first time going to a park alone🙈, it was quite refreshing that I can tell you. I took a bit of selfies because it was a beautiful morning 🌄 😍 Hope you will like this place, check it out just between Arcadia and Hatfield.

The park has so much potential but it is not being well maintained and there is vandalism but the municipality is doing well by putting security personnel in place. The water fountain isn't working but with more effort it is a good park. I felt safe
