Nestled just outside Pretoria, Dinokeng Game Reserve is a remarkable destination that proudly claims the title of being Gauteng's only free-roaming Big Five game reserve. Spanning an impressive 18,500 hectares, this relatively new reserve opened its doors in 2011 and has quickly become a favorite for wildlife enthusiasts seeking an authentic safari experience close to urban life. The name "Dinokeng," meaning "Place of Rivers," reflects the stunning natural beauty found within its borders.
We just spent a week in Dinokeng and had a wonderful time. We saw some beautiful animals, our favourite being Zebra, Rhino, Giraffes, Lilac breasted rollers and Jackal. The map is easy to follow with well marked trails and easy to identify numbers along the way. It can be difficult to spot some animals amongst the long grass but that adds to the experience. There's so many bright and unique birds to see along the way too. We will definitely be coming back.
Dani G — Google review
Afsaal is a gem within Dinokeng and should be visited by all. Everything about this camping area is tops. From spotless sparkling ablation facilities to the playground and pool with a lapa for bigger groups and very friendly owners and staff
Sandra R — Google review
One of the best all round wedding venues I’ve been to. The game was incredible to see and as surprised considering how close to Pretoria it is. The venue itself ( the chapel, groomsmen’s room, reception area, different quarters) was also perfect and we had an all round amazing experience!
Michael B — Google review
It was my first time visiting, and I was so surprised at how nice this reserve is. There is nice scenery, lots of animals to see, lodges, restaurants and the roads are quite well kept. Dinokeng is a great day out especially if you live in Johannesburg and surrounds.
James J — Google review
Dinokeng is lovely, really peaceful. The air is clean and its a greate breakaway from the city. The only down side is that some drivers are unfortunately inconsiderate, speeding on dirt roads in the dark with brights on. Dinokeng needs to better monitor speeding.
Danielle T — Google review
An exciting journey through the jungles watching many animals in its own natural habitat spreading through 22000 hectares of land reserve which is a no man’s land otherwise. Entries are restricted through pre booking and very controlled to maintain natural serenity. A life time experience not many country offer these days.
Vijay N — Google review
Dinokeng Game Reserve is an absolute gem – the perfect getaway if you’re craving wildlife and nature without driving too far from Gauteng. We spotted hyenas, giraffes, buffalo, White and Black rhino , Hippos and a lot of buck (from a safe distance, of course!). The self-drive route is well marked, and there’s a good mix of open savannah and thick bushveld. What makes it special is how close you feel to the wild – no overcrowding, just you, your car, and the animals. There are some lovely picnic spots and lodges scattered throughout the park if you want to spend a night or two. Highly recommend bringing binoculars, packing snacks, and taking your time. It’s a real African bush experience that’s surprisingly accessible. Will definitely be back!
Matthew P — Google review
The reserve, and the rangers and hosts are absolutely amazing. It's pristine and beautiful, and there are many stunning animals to see.

Guests can enjoy leisurely strolls through the beautifully manicured gardens or unwind by the outdoor pool. What a beautiful and tranquil place. Came here for lunch and it was an absolute treat. Food was amazing and the service was attentive. The gardens and views are breathtaking. I would definitely recommend!
Itumeleng M — Google review
Been here many times before but after today no more. Went for a Mother's day breakfast. The service was terrible,\. Nobody was there to welcome us so we wnt straight to the dining room and had to ask for service from a not very friendly waiter. Had to ask for coffee, tomato sauce and toast. The toast never arrived. The main course I had was a standard English type breakfast. 2 fried eggs, 2 measly rinds of bacon, a fried tomato, a small sausage and a very small portion of fried mushrooms. My wife had an omelette. Nothing special about the food at all. I advised the manager who we struggled to find, that we could have had a better breakfast at a Wimpy. So what really is the problem then, you may ask? The price was R 800.00. Never felt so cheated at an establishment like this.
Afe N — Google review
We went here in 2016 for our wedding anniversary and had the most amazing experience. It was incredible. We returned for our 10 year wedding anniversary & wow it has changed. Although the prices haven’t changed the service, food & quality has drastically. It’s really such a shame. The attentiveness we had in 2016 was unbelievable - after going back & being so disappointed, we realised the hotel had been sold in 2018. Under new management and ownership this beautiful place has gone down hill. The food was very average (before was done to Michelin star standard), we constantly had to find someone for even a drink. It was so not special. At best this place is a 3* now. Do not waste your money on being robbed of an amazing experience.
Lucy W — Google review
The location is perfect. Rooms are amazing with everything you can think of - 5 star all round however I reduced a star of the basin taps. Be careful when you open them - they splash.
Keitumetse L — Google review
It was a little disappointing! No personal touch, the waiters were efficient but it was just a job. I'm comparing it with an event 10 years ago. The food was well presented but just lacked something for me, it didn't seem to be cooked with love. It was very empty which also affected the atmosphere. Such a pity!

Absolute terrible administration here! It takes an average student at least a year extra to finish a course. No calls or emails are being to responded to in any department. Unbelievably difficult to receive basic information and communication. Finance and credit department does not update student accounts on time. Registration, assessment and examination dates constantly postponed. Certificates are not received during graduation ceremony. Would not recommend anyone to go through the trauma that is this institution, please explore other options if available.

Nestled just five minutes north of Lanseria Airport and adjacent to the breathtaking Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, Stornoway Lodge is an upscale lakeside retreat that promises a memorable escape. With stylish accommodations and a rustic-chic eatery, it’s perfect for those seeking both comfort and charm. Guests have raved about their experiences here, highlighting thoughtful touches like rose petal decorations that made special occasions even more magical.
I loved it here! I highly recommend. We came here after my partner had recently put a ring 💍 on it! And I don’t think the lodge knew about it, but we found the room with rose petals and beautifully decorated! What a pleasant surprise.
Aurora M — Google review
Stornoway is a beautiful place. The scenery and nature is very good. Jacuzzi was running and warm upon our arrival. Downside: Our room was sub-par. Not even close to cosy. Fat Olive restaurant: the ala carte food was very good, BUT the buffet breakfast did not blow my socks off. In fact, it was quite bad. The background music was shebeen-like. This was a major problem for me personally. We did enjoy our stay, and the staff were professional and service levels were very good.
Heinrich R — Google review
A lovely getaway close to home. We have a very firm mattress at home so any accomodation is going to be different but the room was still lovely. And the catering was excellent. Well worth it.
Simon H — Google review
Upon our arrival, we realized that a music festival was taking place at the lodge, which was not communicated to us prior to our visit. The sound testing and loud music created a challenging environment, particularly during our attempt to enjoy a braai outside our suite at 6 PM, where we were disturbed by high-volume music. Despite our discussion with the manager regarding the sound check scheduled to end 7 PM, it continued with a karaoke, impacting our experience considerably. During my discussion with the manager he did apologize for the inconvenience and said: " We should have informed guests, especially you." I find this very unfair and not appropriate. Additionally, during breakfast at the restaurant, which was included in our stay, we encountered more loud sound testing and noticed numerous vendors present, detracting from the peaceful atmosphere described on your website. Furthermore, after receiving an email requesting feedback about breakfast and the option to make special requests, I was disappointed to find that the staff at reception were unaware of my inquiries, raising concerns about the administration process.
Elizabeth N — Google review
The price was good and the location was beautiful, but the rooms were run down and not cleaned very well. The breakfast wasn't great and our server wasn't friendly.
Jemma S — Google review
The place is great, really can't complain about it, the emergency contact person an absolute gem too.. the issue however started after we checked out and we got a call to send proof for payment the was made 10 days before the trip. The receptionist who helped us check in confirmed the payment, suddenly a different person called to request proof because it would take longer to retrieve from head office. The service at breakfast was quite slow even though we were the only people being served at the time.
Madonna S — Google review
An Extremely unpleasant stay and will not return or recommend to anyone. The photos on their website are mostly untrue and the place did not look like what was advertised and whatever photos were true- the actual things at the lodge were either broken or dirty. The play area for kids was broken with sharp plastic pieces sticking out and filthy dirty. The shower doors were filthy, the floor tiles were all broken, cracked or loose, there were cigarette burn holes on the couch and there were absolutely no teaspoons in the self catering unit. The hand soap and body wash were completely empty and there was barely any water that came out the shower- I had to wash my hair in the basin/sink. When we told the person on duty at checkout - she acted as though she had heard this before and was extremely nonchalant about the entire experience. Definitely will not return or recommend.
Andrea K — Google review
Great value for money. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Richmond went out of his way to ensure that we had a great experience.

Specialty Museums
The Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg, South Africa, offers a comprehensive look at the country's 20th-century history and the now-defunct apartheid system. The museum features exhibits such as 'The Pillars of the Constitution,' which symbolize the values enshrined in South Africa's constitution. Visitors can explore the apartheid era through a variety of mediums including photos, artifacts, newspaper clippings, personal accounts, and film footage.
An exceptional museum. Very well curated. This museum is designed as a journey - it tells a difficult and painful story through powerful content, images, and videos. It’s also incredibly inspiring. Change is possible! Highly recommend. I arrived right as they opened at 9am and had the entire museum to myself for most of my visit.
Theresa — Google review
The Apartheid Museum is one of Johannesburg’s most important landmarks, offering a powerful and moving journey through South Africa’s history. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated, guiding visitors through the story of apartheid with honesty, depth, and impact. It’s an educational experience that lingers long after you leave, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking to understand the country’s past and its path to reconciliation. Beyond the exhibits, the building itself is striking and picturesque — its architecture blends raw concrete, steel, and open spaces in a way that feels both symbolic and visually compelling. The design amplifies the weight of the history inside while also providing moments of reflection. The Apartheid Museum is as much a place of learning as it is of remembrance, and its setting makes the experience all the more profound.
Paul L — Google review
Quick Takeaways 🏛️ Impressive, modern museum documenting South Africa’s apartheid era 📍 Located in Ormonde, Johannesburg — adjacent to Gold Reef City 🚗 Safe, accessible area with ample parking and good transport links (car, taxi, bus, or guided tour) 💬 Everyone speaks fluent English; signage and staff communication are easy 🕊️ Immersive exhibits tell South Africa’s story from apartheid’s origins to its abolition 📽️ Powerful use of artefacts, videos, and photography — deeply emotional and thought-provoking 🧭 Layout can be confusing — follow the large vertical black signs to stay on route ☕ Good café with friendly staff and outdoor seating; local food and wildlife nearby 🛍️ Gift shop is overpriced but offers quality books, clothing, and standard souvenirs ⏱️ Allow 1–2 hours to visit fully 🙏 A sobering, essential experience that powerfully portrays South Africa’s long struggle for freedom ⸻ Full Review The Apartheid Museum is a striking and modern site that powerfully documents one of the darkest yet most defining periods in South African history. Located in Ormonde, Johannesburg, beside Gold Reef City, the area is relatively safe for tourists — especially during the day. While Johannesburg does have a reputation for crime, this particular location is well policed and well maintained. It’s accessible by car, taxi, bus, or tour, and at no point did I feel unsafe. I wouldn’t say there are zero risks — as with any large city, awareness is important — but tourist-related crime here is very low. If you drive, there’s ample, clearly marked parking only a short walk from the entrance. Ticketing is straightforward, with friendly staff who all speak fluent English, and prices are reasonable. From the very beginning, the museum immerses you in the ideology of segregation that defined apartheid. The entrance itself symbolically separates visitors by race — an immediate and sobering reminder of the injustice at the system’s core. From there, the exhibits guide you chronologically through apartheid’s origins, enforcement, resistance, and eventual dismantling. The displays are rich and varied, using a mix of artefacts, documents, photographs, films, and oral histories to tell the story. The presentation is impactful and emotional, with several areas that are genuinely moving. Many visitors — myself included — found certain sections deeply affecting, with some visibly in tears. The layout can be a little confusing, so make sure to follow the large black vertical signs to avoid missing key parts of the exhibition. Most of the museum is indoors, though there are a few outdoor installations, a small garden area, and a café with outside seating. If it rains, it won’t impact the experience, as the majority of the exhibits are housed inside. The café, though modest in appearance, serves good coffee and light snacks. The staff are friendly and happy to chat — one told me about the locally sourced food and the wildlife around the site, sparked by a conversation about weaver birds nesting above the café seating area. The gift shop is perhaps the weakest part of the experience — it’s expensive, but it does stock a good range of high-quality books, clothing, and South African-themed accessories, alongside the usual souvenirs. Overall, the Apartheid Museum is a must-visit. It’s emotional, educational, and unforgettable. You can easily spend one to two hours here, though you might linger longer if you want to take everything in. It’s a sobering reminder of how far South Africa has come — and a testament to the resilience, pain, and triumph of those who fought for freedom.
MilPoPo — Google review
What a great experience, and a sobering one too. We moved through the galleries slowly, reading, listening, and letting the story build room by room. The way the exhibits are laid out—photos, film, letters, everyday objects—makes it feel personal and real rather than distant history. We barely spoke for long stretches; it’s one of those places that asks you to pay attention and you do. Outside and in the open spaces we took a few breaths, looked back at the steel and concrete lines of the building, and felt the weight of it all in a good way—honest, necessary, human. We left quiet and thoughtful, grateful we’d made the time. It’s not a quick stop, but it’s the one we’ll remember.
Bradley S — Google review
I visited the Apartheid Museum during my short stay in Johannesburg. The museum was interesting, but it didn’t quite meet my expectations. There weren’t as many historical artifacts or organized exhibits as I had hoped. Still, I’m glad I had the chance to visit and learn more about South Africa’s history. The entrance fee was 170 South African rand as of October 18, 2025.
Anar G — Google review
Absolutely worth a visit. Very well done. Stop to read and learn. I also watched all videos along the route. Ended up spending 4 hours in the museum. Excellent work by the organisers.
Mia K — Google review
Buckle up for +1h of deep dive into the story of South African human foolishness way of thinking and treating pairs as folk... The museum immerse the visitors so well that at the end you may feel the weights of those stories and appreciate the efforts made to tell them. We highly recommend this stop when you're in Jozy.
Anicet J — Google review
We were educated and moved by the museum's displays, and wish we'd had more time there even after spending 5 hours. Thought provoking doesn't capture it. The museum grapples with one of humanity's greatest challenges and displays how flawed we are in relating to and loving each other, and at the same time hope we collectively can make a difference and become better.

Gold Reef City Theme Park is a captivating amusement park located on the grounds of a former gold mine. With over 30 exhilarating roller coasters and thrill rides, it offers an interactive journey through the history of gold mining and even features a 4D theater experience. Families can spend an entire day exploring the vibrant themed zones, enjoying live performances, and strolling through beautifully landscaped gardens.
Gold Reef City Theme Park is perfect for Everyone! I wholeheartedly recommend this park for both families and couples. There's a dedicated kids' area that will keep the little ones entertained for hours, while adults have plenty of options to get their adrenaline fix. If you're an adult who loves a thrill, you absolutely will not be disappointed – Gold Reef City delivers big on excitement! Beyond the fantastic rides and attractions, Gold Reef City also serves as an excellent event venue, offering beautiful rooms for booking. This makes it a versatile destination, whether you're looking for a fun day out or a special place to host an event.

Awesome! Plenty rides, queues not too bad, lots to do in the day. Parking is free which is great. You need to buy tickets online in advance, but very reasonably priced. Would recommend. 🎢
Dylan B — Google review
It was a fantastic day. They should make like 2, 3 days a week for school trips. The lines are crazy long. They should put on the website what rides are not working. The ride is love the most was not in order
Wiekie N — Google review
Very nice place to visit! Alot of rides to choose from, for your whole family needs. Just long lines for the Anaconda ride etc. So you wait very long to have fun. Very good food. Lots to do
Mariska G — Google review
Gold reef city theme park is a great outing for kids and adults alike. Tickets are only available online and you have to arrive at the park and stand in a queue to collect the wrist bands for the day. (NOTE: Security does ask that only 1 person from a group stand in the queue, so please make sure that the kiddies are close by or are with a responsible adult). Depending on how busy it is, this can be a bit of a pain. So you can walk in and out of the park all day. There are maps scattered throughout the park and it is relatively easy to find your way around. Wear good walking shoes. Everything is well spaced out. The park caters for a little kiddies as well as the older kids. There are lots of fast paced rides to cater for everyone's type of adrenaline addiction. From aerial rollercoasters to dropping water rides. There is something for everyone. Queues for popular attractions like the Storm Chaser or Anaconda can be very long due to its popularity. There are no food or drinks allowed to be brought in. Remember the bag checks at the entrance. Everything has to be purchased on the premise at an egregiously inflated price. The price of a coke varies from shop to shop. There are various restaurants on site allowing a wide selection of food. Restaurants do get very full around lunch time and finding a place with a short queue or an open table can be a arduous task. Overall it is fun day out for familys and groups of friends. The park does close at 5 and the vehicle exit queues will take a while to clear. Rather take your time in the park to chill or walk around having ice cream.😜
Avesh S — Google review
Went to the Theme Park in September which historically is the best time to go as: 1. the park is not as busy [shorter waiting time in line for rides] and, 2 the weather is a bit warmer as South Africa goes into Spring so when you get soaked on the water rides its not as bad 😀 Don't go in December, January as its school holidays [you'll wait for an hour to get on some rides] and the heat is too much. Book tickets online the day before and if you are a Tsogo Rewards member you can get at least 10% off, if not more [depending on the level your profile is on] Ticket price is reasonable R295 as it gives you access to all rides in the park. Try to go early so you can get on all the rides. I suggest doing the 'big' rides 1st like the Anaconda rollercoaster, Golden Loop rollercoaster and Runaway Train rollercoaster. There are quite a few places to eat [with a couple of Halaal options like Mochachos chicken and Anat Falafel] and shops to buy snacks and drinks. Stay hydrated especially on a hot day. Most of the rides have some form of shading while you wait in line. Enough rides for all ages included the toddlers. The train which takes you around the park is also a nice relaxing way to see the park.

Symbolizing the Union of South Africa, they have been witness to pivotal moments in the country's history, including Nelson Mandela's inauguration in 1994.
The Union Buildings Gardens are a wonderful place to relax and unwind. With beautifully maintained lawns, shaded walkways, and an atmosphere of peace, it’s perfect for a quiet afternoon. The grounds are beautifully maintained, with lush lawns, tiered gardens, and wide terraces offering sweeping vistas across Pretoria. It’s an ideal spot to stroll, relax, or simply take in the grandeur of the setting. Two historic Long Tom guns frame a war memorial positioned between them, paying tribute to those who served in earlier conflicts. Across the gardens, the commanding Nelson Mandela statue — standing 9 metres tall with outstretched arms — overlooks the capital, symbolising peace and reconciliation. Security is reassuringly visible, and there’s ample parking as well as clean public toilets. While I didn’t spot any cafés or shops, many visitors were enjoying picnics on the lawns beneath the buildings, making good use of the open space and sunshine. It’s hard to think of a more impressive or immaculately kept location in Pretoria — a place that combines architectural splendour, historical weight, and peaceful surroundings in perfect balance. Absolutely worth a visit.

The Union Buildings in Pretoria are South Africa’s most iconic landmark, set high on Hill with beautiful terraced gardens and panoramic views of the city. they’re home to the President’s offices. Visitors can stroll through the gardens, view memorials, and admire the impressive statue of Nelson Mandela at the forefront.

Beautiful location, with a view over the cbd of Pretoria.

Terraced lawns step you up to a view that slows your breathing. The statue feels welcoming rather than grand, and sandstone curves catch light in a way that makes every photo look intentional. We wandered the gardens, read a few plaques, and sat on warm steps longer than we meant to. It’s a place that handles both ceremony and everyday life—wedding photos in one corner, a picnic in another, a quiet pause on a bench in between. We left feeling lighter and a little proud.

Rietvlei Nature Reserve, located just a short drive from Pretoria's city center, offers a vast natural expanse where visitors can enjoy wild game viewing and fishing activities. The reserve spans 3800 hectares and is home to an array of wildlife including four of the Big Five game animals. Visitors can explore the reserve at their own pace by car or opt for guided hiking and horse trails. The park also features a restaurant serving delicious home-cooked meals.
Went today for the first time, and it was AMAZING! Saw so many animals including rhino! The reserve is small, but worth going most definately! Road are fine with a normal car. The only negative thing I can say is, if you stop to buy food at the coffee shop, be prepared to wait long. Two toasted cheese and onions took almost 40min even though they were not that busy!
Riaan G — Google review
Went for a self-drive at the reserve and really enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. The place is huge, perfect for getting some fresh air and taking in the natural surroundings. The experience was relaxing overall, though it would’ve been nice to see more animals along the way. On the plus side, the food was tasty and very affordable, which made the visit even better. A great spot if you’re looking for a quiet escape into nature.

A short 25 minute drive from Pretoria East you'll find a wonderful day outing in the Rietvlei Nature Reserve. At a total cost of R125 for one adult and a kid it is absolutely worth the fee. The staff are friendly, from the moment you enter the gate, to purchasing tickets and entering the Reserve. All were friendly and welcoming. We packed a picnic, our camera and embarked on a self-drive fueled by a bunch of excitement to be out in Nature in search of wildlife. The roads are easily drive able even in a small hatch back vehicle. We stopped at three different bird hides/ lookout points and each were well maintained. We enjoyed a slow meander and eventually ended up at the coffee shop. There is a section that is home to a few Donkeys which the kids love to feed ( bring a bag of carrots, you'll be a favourite) . We enjoyed a coffee and an ice-cream before heading back out to look at more game and birds. We saw a meerkat, lots of Buffalo , zebras, ostriches, and a number of birds. Not much bird variety, but it was midday. After enjoying a good 4.5 hours of driving around we headed back home. There is are restrooms at Reception, by the coffee shop and at the Finfoot hide. All of which were decently maintained and had loo paper. We will most certainly become more regular visitors.

What a pleasant surprise!!! Right on our doorstep and yet I have not frequented the reserve before. It was so easy to get into the reserve, staff were helpful and friendly and it was a day that was really relaxing to view the game and try to spot those elusive cheetahs. Visit the picknic spot, it is so tranquil but get there early if you want a good spot. The old farm house now operating as a restautant needs some tlc. I see how specific little trinkets can produce a steady flow of cash for the reserve from those who want a souvenir.

Close to town but it feels like a small bush day. We rolled the windows down, followed gravel tracks along the water, and sat quietly when the plains opened up. A white rhino sighting turned the whole car into kids for five minutes. Picnic spots are simple and the light is lovely toward evening. You leave dust-coated and happy.

We had a wonderful time here. Saw quite a few different animals. Roads are also in good condition for all types of vehicles which is a big plus! We stopped at the coffee shop which served some really great food. Next time we will make use of the lovely braai facilities.

Maropeng is the official visitor center for the Cradle of Humankind, a UNESCO-listed site known for its significant fossil discoveries. The center features interactive exhibits that trace the history of humanity and showcases the 2013 discovery of Homo naledi in the Rising Star caves. Located just a short drive from Johannesburg, this area is home to the renowned Sterkfontein caves, where nearly 1,000 hominid fossils have been found.
From the moment you enter through the security gate, the journey begins. The drive along the paved road, gently winding through fields of wild grass, already gives you a sense that this place was thoughtfully designed to blend into its natural surroundings. The architecture of the Visitors Centre is striking – modern, yet rooted in the earth, like a time capsule waiting to be opened. Inside, the experience only deepens. The staff are incredibly warm and welcoming, and the tour guides are not only friendly, but exceptionally knowledgeable. They bring the history of humanity to life with enthusiasm and depth, making you appreciate just how special this place is. Whether you're a history lover, a nature enthusiast, or simply curious about our origins, Maropeng offers a powerful and educational experience. A perfect day trip that feels both peaceful and profound. Highly recommended – it’s not just a museum, it’s a journey through time.

Due to previous flooding, the caves will reopen to visitors in May 2025. There will be an exciting group guided tour at 1 PM! This place is well worth a visit. Although it's small, the entire guided tour takes about an hour and a half! The origins of humans are well-known for several reasons: 1. Out of Africa Theory • The most widely accepted theory about the origin of modern humans (Homo sapiens) is that humans originated in Africa approximately 200,000 years ago and gradually spread throughout the world. 2. Famous fossil evidence • The Great Rift Valley of East Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania) and the "Cradle of Humankind" in South Africa both contain numerous famous fossils. ✨For example: • Lucy (3.2 million years ago, Ethiopia) • The display case title, "Skeletal Locomotion," explains how the human skeletal structure gradually adapted to upright gait.

Exciting experience for both young and old. Loved the museum as it's interactive and very informative, you also move at you own pace unlike at the guided side. The boat ride was just an added bonus for me.

Lovely visit to Maropeng. I always enjoy going here and it makes me happy. The setup is practical and informative and it condenses a lot of information to a really fun learning experience. Some of the exhibits are slightly run down or broken though and it would be nice to see the museum a bit better maintained, although it did not detract from our experience.

The Sterkfontein Caves, located an hour from Johannesburg, are a significant part of the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site and have yielded remarkable fossil finds. These caves have been the site of major discoveries in paleoanthropology, including the famous Mrs. Ples and Little Foot skeletons. The fossils found here date back to 1.5 to 3.5 million years ago, providing valuable insights into human evolution.
We drove there hungry... Bad idea. The restaurant advertised on Google Maps is still in development. Instead of steak, we were given a hard hat and a scientifically cool cave guide. He talked a lot, but unfortunately, the acoustics were more suited to a small group; there were thirty of us standing in the semi-darkness. At least the caves made up for it. Vast subterranean chambers, ancient waterways, all full of mysterious crevices. Among the remains found here was Australopithecus africanus, one of the first to dare to explore the area upright. After an hour and a half through narrow passages and small and large caves, we stood outside covered in dust and at least knew why you should never complain about not having enough space in your own home. My daughter was with us and was surprisingly quiet, which in itself is a miracle of nature. All in all, a worthwhile journey into the history of the earth.

Sterkfontein Caves is a fascinating experience for almost all ages. There’s quite a bit of walking and stairs, but it’s absolutely worth it — the caves are rich in history and very interesting to explore. The guided tour lasts about 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes, and the guides are excellent: knowledgeable, professional, and with just the right touch of humour to keep everyone engaged. The premises are well organised, with plenty of parking and a strong focus on safety. There’s also a small shop for coffee, tea, and snacks, as well as a museum to explore before or after your tour. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance, but it’s best to book online in advance, especially over weekends when slots fill quickly. Group sizes are limited, which makes for a more personal and enjoyable experience. Highly recommended for a family outing or anyone interested in South Africa’s incredible natural and archaeological heritage.

I visited the caves today with my Grade 5 robotics group as part of a research project and WOW, we were blown away. The staff and management were fantastic and so accommodating, they went above and beyond to make our experience super special and memorable. I would like to thank Job, Boiki, Thobeka and Andrew for this amazing experience. If I could give you 100 stars I would! Proudly South African! P.S. the tour and facilities are of the highest quality!

Tour was a blast. There should be better information regarding cave tour as we had elderly people in the group. Some battled during exit of cave. Be prepared to squat, bend, drag on your bottom, don't go with your party suit as not going to be same color when you're done. Hard hats was a blessing. Also should you be an asthma patient please carry your inhaler. Air and steep inclines are what you look forward to. All in all, great experience.

Amazing tour and experience. Gift was an amazing tour guide with a lot of knowledge and information. Definitely recommend this to anyone l who likes to do unique experiences but bare in mind it would be a 5 in activity rating as there are a lot of stairs and small spaces but definitely going to book the extended tour

Very educational. Requires a bit of crouching and squatting, even a short bear crawl for me during a segment of the tour.. but doable if you have some level of basic fitness. if you are not mobile or flexible dont do it.

Atmospheric and hands-on, helmet on, duck low, and follow the cool air into deep time. Guides balance safety with engaging stories. Some passages are tight; comfy shoes help. Pair with Maropeng for a satisfying full day.

Maboneng Precinct, meaning "place of light," has undergone a remarkable transformation from a once rundown neighborhood to a vibrant urban hub in downtown Johannesburg. The area is now home to an eclectic mix of old manufacturing buildings that have been repurposed into trendy cafes, boutiques, restaurants, hotels, art galleries, and creative coworking spaces alongside residential buildings. Market on Main offers a delightful foodie experience every Sunday.
A place where time seems to be still, you forget about the rest of tge world when you are at Bertrand Cafè. Everything is so well thought of, decòr, music, every wing speaks to a specific indivudual yet all so tued together in the most elegant maner. When more is more, I love the concept of maximalism that has harmony. Bertrand is more than a cafè restaurant, it's home and there is no place like home.

The roof top,🤔 it was my 1st time being there buh the couple of things I didn't like, infact I loathed it. 1 The waiters or some of them have their own price tags. When we arrived, 1 gentleman told us that a 6 pack corona was going for R280, and later on, a lady approached us, and she said it was R180. Then we move to the food. This is a real deal breaker for me. Apart from taking aeons to getting your order, the meal was horrible and expensive, compared to their next-door neighbor.
Angel T — Google review
Unless there is something specific you want to go for, I do not recommend. We got dropped off, and then immediately booked a ride out. As we drove in and out, there were a few nicer pieces of artwork on the walls and a couple of restaurants or shops that seemed good. However, I would not say this is a nice place for tourists to walk around.

Sandy N — Google review
We made a day of it and I’m glad we did: started at Maropeng for the big-picture story, then drove over to Sterkfontein Caves for the underground bit. Maropeng’s exhibition is easy to follow (there’s even a short underground “boat ride” at the start), so you ease into the science without feeling lectured. The building itself—the grassy “tumulus” mound—looks great in photos, and the upstairs restaurant is a handy spot if you want a sit-down with views. The caves were the highlight for us. Tours are guided and run through tight, low sections—totally doable, just wear grippy shoes and be ready to duck. This is where the famous “Mrs Ples” and “Little Foot” fossils come from (the originals are not in the cave, but seeing the chambers adds real context). As of April 2025, Sterkfontein is open Tues–Sun, 09:00–16:00 (last tour at 16:00); booking a time slot online made the day better.

An easy way to find the grotto is to follow the black pipe from the reservoir (it’s quite the hike) And the slide pool is further up from where its trail ends. Hope that helps! A superb stay and we can't wait to visit again. The newly renovated rooms are superb, they have style, comfort and elegance. We had diner from the a la carte menu and it was excellent, I can recommend the steak with marrobone. Booked a special night here for our wedding anniversary. Breakfast ends at 10am and check out is 10am too. Breakfast should end later, it is too early for a weekend. Housekeeping knocked on our door at 9.30 to clean! We were looking forward to a relaxing day at the spa, whirlpool was freezing and the reception staff was unfriendly. We waited for ages for a menu or any service, eventually we went inside to get menus. The food was lovely and our waiter was friendly once we found someone to help us. I won't return. Expected much better service and I was very disappointed that the whirlpool water was freezing.

Kid-friendly lodge with excellent service. The property had beautiful views and plenty of space to roam. We enjoyed playing at the dairy farm next door with our 3 yr old, and appreciated the spacious rooms. The rooms were a bit dated, however, but I could see they were in the process of remodeling several of them on the bottom floor.

If you’re looking for confused identity hotels, you’ve come to the right place. First appearances surprise, with the swanky reception area and high end finishes of the surrounding rest areas leaving you thinking “African modernity in its finest”. In love. The peaceful nature of the lake, beautiful sunsets, rooms laid out in a form to showcase the beauty of nature. The rooms are decent sized and have your necessary basics, with a few treats such as a complimentary (& declicious) chocolate left for you after turndown. Staff are friendly, and really try to support. Beds comfortable, pillows relatively so. Where the confusion comes in is that the soft product doesn’t quite align with the high end hard product. Dinner night one: empty restaurant and empty bar, but no pizzas on order as no pizza bases. Dinner night two: spaghetti carbonara served with onion and lots of chives? Caesar salad served with avocado and julienne carrots? No, not snobbish, just led to believe it’s a high end hotel, but clearly with struggling F&B management. Pool? Nowhere to be seen. Movie nights? No longer done, despite pointing out that it’s still an activity mentioned on their website. There to stay overnight while a wedding is happening? Don’t think you’re going to find a parking close to your room- all the parking is taken for wedding guests. For a Marriott hotel, going for high end, this hotel disappoints.

Made a reservation for a weekend, we were celebrating the partners birthday. They went all out to make our stay extra special. On arrival, we were met with complementary refreshments & a lovely soul… Our experience was nothing short of amazing. This establishment has earned its reputation of lux ages ago. It still has that touch. The service was impeccable, The thatched rooms need upgrades. They still provide the comfort required jst the standard of rooms is a bit outdated. The Plunge pools require regular maintenance esp if they know the room is booked out. Their breakfast was a bit tricky on the first day, in fact chaotic almost like they weren’t prepared. Even so they still tried their best to serve everyone. They definitely redeemed themselves on the second day. Everything was perfect. The food selection was proper… The spa facilities are lux.. Their service was quite impressive. A special thanks to Dips such a lovely host she was. Pulled out all the strings to make us comfortable. An asset to Mount Grace.. 🩷 They still deserve 5 stars!

The room we were booked into was not great - no bathroom or toilet door! Shower in full view of bedroom and toilet also open. Very dark and poor lighting in the room. Management did upgrade us to a much better room. There was construction work over the weekend which was very noisy by the pool and wooden deck, even late Saturday afternoon. This was very unpleasant. Food was good but very overpriced. Drinks were also overpriced. There is not much to do at the hotel for kids, and Magaliesburg is not what it used to be years ago. This will be out last visit to Mount Grace.

Mount Grace has been close to my heart for a long time, gardens are stunningl. It is rather unfortunate that the pool for room 194 is in such a state. It is really not acceptable noting the cost to get this room. But with that about room 194, the hotel moved me into room 218 - such a difference, the pool is sparkling clean, the room immaculate, and the view is just what I was looking for. The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful. The spa is beautiful, very relaxing atmosphere and the treatments have been great thus far. The table in the window at the Rambling Vine restaurant was amazing, beautiful sunset experience. My experience at Mount Grace showed me that they do care about guest experience.

It is such a pity that a four star hotel is so outdated and still charge an enormous amount per night. Our shower was in the bath and the carpets were dirty with several marks. We had supper and breakfast three times. The Saturday night we had a not up to standard buffet. On Sunday night I asked the waiter what was the curry of the day and he said chicken curry. I asked him if it was last night's buffet chicken curry and he said yes. It was a special occasion for us,being pernsioners a lot of money as well. I believe they are busy upgrading the hotel but I do not see this as an excuse.

The hotel is nice. Not really what I expected from the hype but it's okay. I had booked a room with king size bed and a separate bedroom and was told at check-in that they "upgraded" me... my room now has a "private heated swimming pool". Wow it was more like a downgrade, becoz we all slept in the same room with very little space. It was cold inside the room... the bathroom is unnecessarily huge. The shower had a better potential of turning into a swimming pool than the "heated swimming pool" outside. It was even smaller than a hot-tub. My child had 2 sleep on the floor (sofa-bed). It is damp and mossy around the room, no natural light or sunlight. Not a nice stay. There are other rooms though that looked quite nice from the outside. Wrong Marketing!!! On check-in I was invited to a seafood buffet at R380 per person... was very excited. However, the nicest thing u could eat at the "seafood buffet" was the free dinner bread rolls they offer as a starter. There was very little "seafood" and it was basically a seafood stir-fry they served. Other dishes included beef curry (not halaal) and roast chicken and most dishes were vegetables. So I would call that a "veg buffet". A la carte menu also not nice, very little I could eat on the menu and no restaurants/franchise close by where halaal food is served. The location is really good. We enjoyed sitting in the gardens listening to the birds chirping, monkeys playing around in the trees and the peacefulness of nature. If this is your thing definately a go to, but bring along your own halaal food I would suggest!!! Wish they had braai spots, I was going to bring my own meat. Had a good rest. Activities on site is a spa, gym and tennis courts. Didn't have any interest in that, just lazed next to the main outdoor heated and cold swimming pools. I'd say it's a bit expensive for the experience. In my mind, not really 4-star. Quality of the food is not too good. Had the same old pastry of yesterday at this mornings breakfast, texture and taste gave it away. It was definately refrigerated and warmed up. Won't go out of my way to visit this area again, as the roads are in extremely poor shape, might return only once for the horse-riding at saddle creek which we found out too late about (my child loves horses) and a visit to the upside-down house. Maybe to see the Spa, as that must be the picture you view online when making a booking, which attracts you to the place.

I was quite disappointed with the level of service during my visit. The staff seemed poorly trained and often unhelpful, which affected the overall experience. It’s clear that proper management and support are lacking, and it’s something the hotel urgently needs to address. Service across the board was very poor – slow, inattentive, and inconsistent. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has also declined noticeably compared to previous visits. This hotel has potential, but unless significant improvements are made in staff training, management, and overall service quality, I won’t be returning.

Guests can indulge in spa treatments or enjoy outdoor activities such as golfing on the 18-hole course designed by Loutjie van Aswegen.
Great resort that caters for everyone with every kind of activity that you can think of. Water Park, excellent golf course, paddle and pickle ball, tennis, games rooms, warm and cold pools, boat trips, paddles boats, canoes, hiking and jogging paths daily fun activities and many more. Chalets have a very nice layout and are well maintained, cleaned daily and have comfortable beds and are fully equipped. The local shop has the basic food necessities, snacks, wine, wood, drinks and frozen braai meat from a good local butcher. The staff across all departments are very well trained, professional and friendly. Wonderful resort for a great family breakaway!

A nice close place to go to that feels very out of town. The chalets are very clean and comfortable.Love the animals around like buck and the odd mongoose just gave it a very nature and relaxed feeling. The restaurant on site makes the most amazing pizzas, and the food generally was really very good and reasonable. A nice place just to relax and get some down time. Has a very nice golf course if you play.

We had a wonderful stay at Magalies Park! The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The chalets were beautiful, clean, and well equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. There were so many activities to enjoy within the resort — we especially loved the paddle boating and adventure golf, which were a big hit with the family. The variety of things to do really made our stay fun and memorable. The animals roaming the resort was the cherry on top. Overall, Magalies Park is a fantastic place for a family getaway, and we’ll definitely be visiting again.

It's a beautiful place can't fault anything except for the Jacuzzi it was dirty looked like it hasn't been in use for sometime. Otherwise everything else is out of the world from reception, spa, restaurant, play ares for the kids, both the main pool and their well manicured lawns. Got great service from Friday to Sunday night from George at the restaurant. Loved it!!!!
Kgosi C — Google review
We have cherished visiting Magalies Park for the past 33 years, gathering annually as an extended family and reserving three chalets near each other. This weekend was always the highlight of our year. This time, we visited to celebrate our parents’ 50th anniversary, but the experience was deeply disappointing. Sadly, Magalies Park has declined significantly, much like many other holiday destinations in South Africa, almost resembling a state-owned facility in its neglect. Upon arrival, the warm, welcoming faces at reception were gone. The tap water in the chalets was black, resembling charcoal-treated water, rendering it unsuitable for drinking or showering. Shockingly, no one warned us about this issue. Attempts to contact reception or book a spa appointment were futile, as no one was reachable. The swimming pool toilets were in a deplorable state, reeking of urine, with broken doors and loose toilet paper holders. The chalets themselves were equally neglected: the sliding door handle was broken, the main bedroom mattress was uncomfortable and worn, the oven was non-functional, the furniture was unstable, and the towels were rough and carried an unpleasant odor. The once-lush lawns were overgrown with weeds, a far cry from the well-maintained LM grass fields of the past. The dining experience at Pica Pau restaurant by the pool was equally disappointing. Service was slow, with hours-long waits, and the food was mediocre at best, comparable to low-quality pub fare—nothing like the standard we once enjoyed. The golf course, previously pristine, was poorly maintained, with substandard greens that diminished the overall experience. Even the children’s entertainment by the pool was lackluster and uninspiring. Who is accountable for this decline—the 1st Resort group owners or the current resort manager? Under the previous manager, Muis, the resort never felt like a third-world destination. Someone must take responsibility before it’s too late to restore Magalies Park to its former glory. After 33 years, it may be time to seek a new destination for our family gatherings.

We spent a night in Magalies and had such a relaxing and enjoyable experience. The room was clean and cozy, the jacuzzi was a real treat, and the golf course was beautiful and well-maintained. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. We also had a lovely meal at the restaurant — the food was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful escape!

It was my first time staying here and I always wanted to see why this place is fully booked majority of the time. The receptionists customer service and general knowledge is extremely poor. When we got there they gave us the wrong times for the heated pools so we didn't use it the first night as we were told closes at 6pm. They don't give you the wrist bands for the water park which just causes frustration making you go up and down. We used the heated pool on our second night. It was cold and even after I called it took 40 minutes for someone to come say it's now fixed... Which it was not. After he left the one pump was still pumping in ice cold water and broken. Educate your staff reception is supposed to know what's going on and help clients making their stay memorable. Mount amanzi doesn't have great facilities like you have but I must say their customer service and reception is outstanding. Fix your facilities so people can enjoy what they pay for. The rooms were good and the entertainment staff are knowledgeable and helpful especially at the waterpark . Perhaps have them train reception.

Website to view the room types very confusing. When you call the reception they also more lost. So i was in the area and decided to stop so I can get info for when I booked so i ensure i book correctly . But they dont allow you to come speak to reception

The Emerald Resort & Casino is a luxury accommodation in the heart of Gauteng's entertainment district. The hotel features high-end amenities and VIP treatment for all of its guests. Family rooms are spacious, comfortable, well-equipped with a flat-screen TV and air conditioning, and provide basic essentials like linens and towels. There are three swimming pools in the lodge, as well as a golf course located nearby.
We had such a wonderful stay in the river chalets at Emerald Resort. It was fully furnished, neat and they cleaned everyday. I would 100% recommend! The hotel is just as beautiful and neat - very classy.

Unfortunately, my husband and I had a less than satisfactory experience... On arrival, we were told about the R500 "breakage fee" - for a one night stay. This was not advised before at any stage of making the booking. It even said on the confirmation that "Taxes and Fees" were R0, the amount of R1080 included taxes and fees and that the total due on arrival was R0. Not only was this frustrating, it was also embarrassing, as the entire trip had been planned and budgeted for. This constitutes false advertising and is extremely misleading for clients. Additionally, there was an unmentioned fee of R10.81 for a vehicle permit. This issue could have been avoided with 1 simple line on the confirmation reservation where it states what is to be paid on arrival! Additionally, the staff leaving the reception were refusing other clients to enter and were extremely rude. The night of our stay just increased our frustration as there was no internet or TV. No notice was given to the guests, I had to call someone to find out what was happening only to be told that IT was "sorting it out" with no ETA on when this "free service" would be rectified. That is unfortunately not the level of service that I expected from a high ranking hotel... What I find extremely strange is that we were billed this R500 "breakage fee" on arrival, then you receive the cash as you leave; with no inspection of the property? This makes the fee utterly pointless.

The accommodation may be affordable but the rooms at the River Chalets are located miles away from the casino, entertainment and restaurants. The couch in the room was dirty and the blanket in the cupboard even more so. The remote for the TV was not working. The shelves in the fridge were missing. The bath towels needed replacing. There are no loungers at the pool. The staff was all very approachable and tried to assist but there definitely needs to be more maintenance and on sight activities for guests given the huge distance from the main entertainment area

Absolutely great place to escape with the kids. the water park is great and warm, therefore suitable for all seasons. Easy check in. The look probably hit back in the day, probably decayed over the years, maybe after covid but you can see the life and promise it has. overall good escape. resturant has great portions and tasty food.

After a lady stepped onto a rotten floor piece, i would really look into the safety aspect of animal world. What if it were a child, and the child fell into the hippo enclosure? Would you still just replace the piece and say, sorry for your loss? I would really consider the fact, that you should close the place, and replace the entire walk way. This couldve been much worse. You have tripping hazards everywhere that can cause serious harm to kids and elders. Please look into your safety side. This could have been avoided.

The weekend we visited, most things were being revamped and no notice was provided prior to our arrival. Aquadome kept the children entertained but not much fun for adults.

Hotel
Gold Reef City Theme Park Hotel is a hidden gem nestled within the vibrant Gold Reef City, an entertainment hub that pays homage to Johannesburg's gold rush history. This upscale hotel features understated yet comfortable rooms, complete with complimentary breakfast and access to a lovely garden with an outdoor pool. Guests can enjoy the thrill of being right next to a theme park filled with exciting rides and attractions, making it perfect for families and adventure seekers alike.
I came here for a conference then had some fun little time to try some rides. Here are my ratings, based on thrill and fun. 1. Tower of Terror - 10 for Thrill 5 for fun. When the cart was going down my back broke, it was painful for about a week. Exercise Caution. 2. Miners Revenge - 7 for thrill 8 for fun. It was fun, the water makes it even more fun, I didn't expect the water to splash on me like that. 3. UFO something - 5 thrill 8 fun It wasn't thrilling, but I got to experience what was taught in those physics classes. Centripetal force or something. But also be cautious, you can feel a little weak after riding this one. 4. Golden loop - 8 thrill 7 fun This one was scary, it gave the same vibes as the tower of terror but less thrilling. 5. The Congo what-what swinging boat. This one actually helped me with my fear of swings 😭. The list goes on...but these are the highlights
Kutloano M — Google review
Theme park was good, just so many rules for kids if they to small or to big for rides, certain experiences little kids could enjoy on a parent's lap like the 4D ride bit rules exceptionally strict. Otherwise, the experience for little ones in between being tall enough or too tall made my kids really unhappy as they got refused on many rides.

The hotel room was lovely - they have upgraded since the last time we stayed. The room and bathroom were spacious for the 4 of us. Wifi worked perfectly. The lady at Reception and the staa at Barneys can work on being more friendly and greeting guests and smiling. The shuttle guys were very pleasant. Please can the rides at the theme park open at 9. So much of time is wasted waiting in lines. The administration of the theme park really needs to be looked at. Please evaluate Disney, Universal Studios or Lego Park and look at how they operate the rides. We've been to theme parks across the globe and Gold Reef is disappointing. More operators are needed at the rides. Test the rides at 8 not 9:20. Have the next batch of people ready. Have another operator assisting with the exit while one loads the next batch. So much of time is wasted and it's frustrating how long the lines take to move. It's a waste of money when you are paying for a 1 day ticket as you will only be able to do 2 or 3 of the thrill rides.
Delane R — Google review
Truly a lovely theme park, you just have to have a stomach for it, specially for the infamous Anaconda ride, golden loop (underdog champ) and tower of terror (underrated) rides! If you can still come out in one peace after all that adrenaline, you will enjoy this place. Oh come very early, the ques to the rides is unbearable

My wife brought me here over the weekend of my birthday. We arrived early in the morning and went to the hotel entrance for the theme park, as you get entrance to the theme park, with your stay at the hotel !! Spent the whole day playing like kids on all the rides. had a wonderful lunch with a few draughts and then retired for an afternoon nap. At night you can request a driver to pick you up and take you to the goldreef city casino, where your can watch a show or have dinner and perhaps play games of the money making kind at the casino. Then you can go to the hotel reception AT the casino and they will call you a driver to take you back to your theme park hotel room. It was wonderful and a dream come true for 43 year old Jozi born and bred, south African guy 😊👌🙏💥

It was an extremely cold day when I visited here, I was just looking for something to eat. We were seated outside on the veranda in the only bit of sun that was available. The food was average, I thought it to be a bit expensive, service ok but because of the weather, I just wanted to get it over with. It wasn't a good experience.

It's is with great disguist I type this message after being called awake at 10pm By an extremely rude receptionist who informed me that my booking had not been paid for. When we checked in the person checking us in never requested the payment and now it's my fault. They then send someone to my door with a faulty speed point. Then demand that in my sleep wear I proceed to the front desk to pay. I explained I would be down in the morning to pay my bill while speaking to the manager about my complaint. This still was not good enough. The receptionist then persisted to call me again demanding I come down and pay. Where am I going to run too. We have friends arriving tomorrow to use the theme park. I am beyond disgusted and will be submitting this complaint on all complaint platforms. If they wanted the payment now. Why not send me the bank details so I coud do an immediate transfer. But they would not accept that I will never recommend this hotal to anyone. What makes your staff think it's OK to call a customer awake when the fault was on their side I am know beyond fuming I then get woken up again by a new person who has taken over. The card machine does not work. The best was when he said he is trained to use a speed point hahaha it's not rocket science. I am fully ware the amount needs to be paid. But for God sakes they could have called in the morning and I would have been right there to pay. I don't run from bills and am now been made out to be a thief by their staff. Never in my life have I been treated so badly at a hotel. My stay in this hotel has been nothing but disappointing and all iv been given is harassment. I believe that every person should know of the treatment this hotel gives white paying customers It's a pity that you have to put a star asthis hotel does not deserve even a half. Show quoted text

Nestled in 17 hectares of land, the Indaba Hotel, Spa and Conference Centre is a sought-after wedding venue in Gauteng. Its romantic ambience and lush gardens make it perfect for garden weddings, with a charming rose garden and an outdoor wedding gazebo overlooking two beautiful dams. The hotel offers straightforward rooms, outside dining options, a spa, gym, and outdoor pool. Additionally, there are facilities such as a tasting house for wines and a gin making building for corporate events.
My stay at the Indaba Hotel was nothing short of exceptional. Nestled in a peaceful, lush setting, the hotel offers the perfect balance between comfort, elegance, and natural beauty. The rooms were spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated, with all the modern amenities I needed. What stood out the most was the warm hospitality — every staff member I encountered was genuinely kind, professional, and attentive to detail. The food at the on-site restaurants was delicious and beautifully presented, with a variety of options to satisfy every palate. I also enjoyed relaxing at the spa and walking through the serene gardens, which gave me a real sense of tranquility. Whether you're on business, a romantic getaway, or a solo retreat, Indaba Hotel offers an experience that feels both luxurious and grounded in nature. I highly recommend it and would gladly return.

The hotel itself is architecturally stunning and tastefully designed, offering a visually pleasing and welcoming atmosphere. However, I was somewhat disappointed to find that the cleanliness did not appear to meet the expected standards. Certain areas, particularly the outside, gave the impression that they had not been thoroughly cleaned or maintained. While the aesthetic appeal of the hotel is undeniable, greater attention to hygiene and housekeeping would significantly enhance the overall guest experience

The bedroom was large and spacious with large beds! The bathroom was awesome! Cute display of the towel made elephant! The room service was not great. We stayed at Four Seasons Johannesburg for 3 nights, and it was absolutely amazing. To be honest, our English skills are close to zero. We used Google Translate for almost everything, and honestly, we understood maybe 10% of what people were saying. But still — the South African staff treated us with so much kindness and patience. We truly appreciated their warm hospitality. The food was exceptional. We’ve stayed at many Four Seasons hotels, but the wagyu beef here was the best we’ve ever had. Even though we were unsure about tipping culture, the staff always remained gracious and helpful. We’re now heading to Botswana, but we will absolutely stay here again on our way back. There is no other option for us — it’s Four Seasons or nothing. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

Breakfast at Flames Restaurant was a real letdown. For a Four Seasons property, the food quality was shockingly poor. The eggs were badly overcooked, the avocado was clearly past its best, and the overall flavors felt flat and uninspired. This is not the standard one expects when dining at a luxury hotel. The only redeeming part of the experience was the service—staff were attentive and genuinely excellent. Unfortunately, great service can’t make up for disappointing food. At this level, the restaurant should be delivering a far higher standard.

The penthouse was sizeable with ensuite bathrooms in each bedroom. There was housekeeping and evening turndown service daily. There was lots of variety for the breakfast buffet and we could order a hot breakfast a la carte which was included in the breakfast as well. My fave was the mango juice. The gym was one of the best hotel gyms I’ve been in. We did not have enough time to use the indoor pool but it looked lovely. We will all definitely be staying next time we are in Joburg! My only negative would be that the hot tub was way too hot (which sounds silly but we couldn’t sit in it due to how hot it was). The outdoor pool was cold so my 2 year old niece couldn’t swim and the hot tub was too hot for her too. The indoor pool is 18+ which meant she was not able to swim at all during our stay.

Never, I said never gonna back to this Hotel. I have nothing to complain about the room and the place, but the way that we are treated is unbelieveble… when we are doing the check out they said that we take/stolen a towe and made us open the luggage and they didn’t find ANY towel in our luggage! This is kind of gesture that a 5 star Hotel act????? We have to pay extra money to to cab that have to wait for the procedure of searching bags! Please take care and keep in mind that you and your family will be searched!!!!!

Had an amazing stay at The Houghton Hotel. The food was exceptional — especially the perfectly cooked meats and the impressive wine selection. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the room service was prompt and top quality. Staff were friendly, welcoming, and made the entire experience feel seamless. Highly recommend for anyone looking for comfort, great dining, and excellent service.

Kievits Kroon Gauteng Wine Estate is a luxurious hotel and spa located in Roodeplaat, just outside Pretoria. The 16-hectare estate offers top-notch amenities including pools, a spa, polished restaurants, and bars. The property provides comfortable rooms with modern facilities and is set amidst landscaped rose gardens on an upmarket country estate.
★★★★★ Absolutely Perfect Anniversary Stay We had the best wedding anniversary at Kievits Kroon! The staff were super friendly and incredibly helpful, and the rooms were spotless. Everyone went the extra mile to make our stay special. The spa was luxurious and so relaxing, and the restaurant was excellent — amazing food and atmosphere. Highly recommend for a romantic getaway!

I would like to express my appreciation for the wonderful experience at your spa. The spa treatment was absolutely amazing, and the three-course meal was delicious. The facilities were impressive and surprisingly fun, contributing to a truly enjoyable day. However, I would like to share a few concerns that impacted the overall experience. After our full-body massage, we felt somewhat pressured when products used during the treatment were presented to us for purchase. While we understand the value of these products, it would be more comfortable if they were displayed in a public area where guests could browse at their leisure and approach staff if they are interested or have questions. Additionally, regarding the manicure and pedicure included in our package, we assumed that gel polish would be part of the treatment. We were surprised to learn that an additional R580 was required for gel application. This cost is comparable to what one would typically pay for a full manicure and pedicure elsewhere. While we don’t mind paying extra for gel polish, we believe the pricing should be more reasonable, especially since the treatment was part of a package. Offering a discount or clearer communication upfront would greatly improve the experience. Oh Yes and the 3-course meal does not include drinks, so we had to pay for our drink at the restaurant. Suggestion, considering we were on the VINO spa treatment, its would have been great if 1 drink is part of the package at the restaurant, and if you go beyond 1 drink then you pay for the rest. Despite these concerns, the overall visit was exceptional, and we truly enjoyed ourselves.

What a wonderful experience we had at Kievits Kroon — made even better thanks to Yvette and her incredible team. From taking pictures of furniture for me to ensuring that every small detail was thought of and remembered on the day, I truly couldn’t have asked for a better team or experience. We especially loved the food, the staff’s willingness to help with any request, and the thoughtful room setup — both the night before the wedding and in the honeymoon room on the wedding night. It was so sweet and romantic. My only critique would be that the plates were cleared a little too quickly during the reception. I stepped away to chat with guests, and when I returned, my plate had already been taken. Secondly, my sister-in-law and her family unfortunately had an issue with a broken heater in their room, which made it difficult for them to sleep. They weren’t offered a room change or the same attentive support from hotel staff that we received from Yvette and her team. Aside from those two points, I have nothing but praises to sing — and I can’t wait to share our gorgeous photos in a couple of weeks when they’re ready! Thank you so much, Yvette, and the amazing team at Kievits Kroon, for helping make my wedding a dream come true!

Lovely break away! Close to home and stunning venue! The premises is immaculate and very well kept! We stayed the evening to make full use of our time there…spa, Jacuzzi, steam room…lovely experience and relaxing! Palesa and team were great! Rooms are a great size and have heating and blankets for those colder evenings. The bungalow rooms are thatched (be aware if you are allergic or have preferences). Room service was great! Rooms do need a bit of maintenance (splash of paint, fixing shower door seal etc.), and a mini bar would be good (some great snacks were provided on arrival (trio of biltong, sweets, corn, and big cookies/biscuits). We had an issues with our toilet on arrival, the team were very quick to respond and fix it! The dining experience was great, and food was something different. Dining experience (food) started off great, but didnt finish to our expectations (flavour, cost etc.) - main meal and dessert of the dining experience was a huge let down. A draw back is that some of the tables in the Granita dining area were also very close to each other too…takes away from the privacy and dining experience. Overall, a good evening away and I would recommend, but suggest value for money is a concern.

I went to visit Kievits Kroon Spa during the week and with the place being a 4star and with the standard,I was quite disappointed with how the reception team was dressed,I believe as a point of welcome, they are the ones who set the tone for the experience, but reception team in scrubs? I think that is low standard,as much as the team was professional and offered a spa tour and showed us around,it would make a great difference if the point of contact was dressed more presentably… for therapists it’s 100% perfect but reception? I think that should be given some thought. Overall great team.

The views are absolutely breathtaking. It felt like we were transported to a wine estate in the Western Cape. Every bite, from the restaurant to the spa, was pure perfection seriously, how do they make butter taste this good? The spa treatments were heavenly, the staff warm and welcoming, and the picnic offering is an absolute dream. A truly unforgettable experience.

We stayed at Kievits Kroon for our anniversary. We loved the Cape Dutch Colonial architecture and garden, although, the duck ponds lack cleaning and in need of repairs. We enjoyed the friendly staff and good food, Unfortunately the establishment lack serious maintenance. The door hinges of the front door of our room were loose and some screws missing, making it very difficult to open and close the door. Locking and unlocking the door was a mission as the lock does not function properly as well. The TV remote was faulty. The bedroom door lack maintenance – difficult to close and open. The toilet was leaking that caused the floor to be wet all the time.

Nestled within the serene Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve, Thaba Eco Hotel offers a luxurious escape in Johannesburg that perfectly blends comfort with eco-friendly practices. Guests can indulge in chic rooms and suites designed for relaxation, complemented by top-notch amenities such as a rejuvenating spa, inviting swimming pool, and exquisite dining options. Whether you're planning a romantic getaway or celebrating a special occasion like a birthday, the hotel’s attentive staff ensures an unforgettable experience filled with warmth and professionalism.
I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Thaba Eco Hotel for their outstanding service and the exceptional quality of their staff. During the Only Realty Property Group conference, everything ran smoothly, and it was evident that no detail was too small for them to handle. The rooms were consistently neat and well-maintained, and the hotel staff were incredibly helpful, always greeting us with a smile. I especially appreciated the delicious food, which far exceeded my expectations. Even the small gestures, like a golf cart ride to our rooms, made a significant difference and truly brightened our day. Every staff member we encountered, whether walking by or from a distance, took the time to smile and greet us, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Thank you, Thaba Eco Hotel, for helping make this the best conference we have ever had in the 13 years we've been hosting our yearly events. Your dedication to quality service and guest satisfaction is commendable! See you next year!

This is a really nice place with great mountain views very close to the city. The rooms are spacious and luxurious. My big issue though was the shower. It’s just a light sprinkle of water with no pressure whatsoever. Also since we were strictly halaal and requested no alcohol or breakfast, it would’ve been nice to get a bit of a better rate. Aside from this it’s a nice place

It's a 4 star with 5 Star pricing but delivers less then a 3 star City Lodge. They have the look and feel going without the touch. The hotel room was not as clean as the swipe of my bank card. The decorative pillows on the bed smelled of the previous guest/s. They were not generous with the showered gels and a lot of other little trinkets which for the price should be a none issue. They have a bar located close to the rooms, the music is too damn loud. They don't really have amenities. It seems their main business comes from conference facilities. The restaurant is not impresive, it feels like it was simply dated off as a bar and turned into an eating space. The food was impressive on the first night until I ordered lamb the next night and it tasted a 100% like my oxtail from the night before. This clearly said "prepacked catering". I was so disappointed. The bathroom in the hotel room was one step down from the room level, my wife strained her ankle and it set her back from on from recovery by two weeks following that. It happened on the first night and arrival, imagine that. Why would you not consider basic safety when building a "high end" hotel? The place over promises but under deliveries over all. It's such a shame because it has potential but at the end of stay, I felt like I had gone somewhere to simply stay in a room. I didn't walk away with an experience or a sense of value for money. There is so much a little bit of effort can bring to this hotel but it seems no one is paying attention to detail. It's small enough to expect very little fault but clearly the owners are distant from the details and need to refocus.

Our recent stay at Thaba Eco Hotel was unfortunately far below expectations. The room we were allocated was substandard — the shower head had to be replaced while we were already in the room, the carpet had a pungent smell and visible stains, and the air-conditioning was not working properly. When we raised our concerns, the options given were either a full refund (which wasn’t feasible as we had nowhere else to go at the time) or an upgrade to a luxury suite on our next visit. Sadly, the manager never followed up on the promised upgrade. Additionally, the iron provided was old and ended up staining our clothes, and the hairdryer was oddly placed next to the tea station instead of the bathroom. For a hotel that positions itself as eco-luxury, the experience and room standards were disappointing. A few improvements in room maintenance, customer follow-up, and attention to detail could make a significant difference for future guests.

We were there for a worshop. The food was out of this world, my standards are high and they delivered. Fresh salads and veg, mouth watering chicken and steak that blew of minds. The place was soo clean you'd swear it has no one walking around especially the bathrooms. I loved the fact that you can take a walk around nature during breaks. Emple parking as well. Well done to the management team of this establishment.

Was not expecting this much for somewhere so close to home. Just came from a game drive with our charming guide Travis and then a massage session to die for. However when I got to my room, my mind was blown. Luxury more than I could ever ask for, definitely coming back.

Joseph, our tour guide, gave us the warmest, friendliest, peaceful experience on our 8am guided walk! He made sure we were smiling throughout the walk and educated us about all the animals we saw and even the ones we didn't see. On our walk we managed to see the Elands running away, the wildebeest doing a staring contest, a beautiful giraffe to greet us as we started and impalas. We felt safe and he made us share a memory of a life time. Thank you Joseph for the best day.!!

I am definitely going back! What a beautiful stay — from start to finish, everything was just perfect. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the rooms were spacious, warm, and offered breathtaking views of the mountains. The aesthetics of the place are stunning, and the food? Absolutely amazing — fine dining at its best! A special shoutout to Dos, our golf cart driver — such a gentle soul and so efficient. Your service was remarkable. And to the manager, Julia — you truly embody exceptional customer experience. Thank you for making our stay unforgettable!

We had a mixed experience at Cradle Boutique Hotel. Rooms are clean, comfortable, and well maintained with Wi-Fi and DSTV, but there are no free activities beyond sitting in your unit. All extras (walks, drives, spa, etc.) come at a cost, and units are quite close together so you can hear neighbours. Dining was disappointing: breakfasts were fine, lunches decent, but dinners were overpriced, pretentious, and often missing ingredients. Service was slow but friendly. A small tuckshop or kiosk would really improve the experience so guests don’t have to spend heavily at the restaurant or leave the resort just for snacks. The highlight was our guide Andrew — knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about the reserve. The game drive and guided walk with him were excellent. The biggest letdown was the camera policy. Shortly after check-in I was told cameras were not allowed at all, only to later be told I could use mine for wildlife. The inconsistency made me decide not to use it at all, as I didn’t want to keep justifying myself. Phones are allowed, which makes the rule even more confusing. Overall, while the staff were attentive and the reserve itself is beautiful, the poor dining value, lack of free activities, and confusing restrictions mean the experience did not feel worth the high cost.

We visited the hotel with my kids. It’s not exactly kids friendly, but the staff made us feel very welcome and went out of their way to accommodate us. From the moment we arrived from the parking attendants to the reception staff, golf cart drivers, and waiters everyone was warm, friendly, and professional. The food was excellent! Both breakfast and dinner were delicious and well prepared. The only hiccup was on Friday night when our mains took more than an hour to arrive which was a bit hard with hungry kids but the staff handled it kindly, and it didn’t spoil our stay. The room was refreshed twice a day during our stay, which was amazing, especially with kids who love to play and move things around! We also visited the museum, which we all loved. My kids are now obsessed with fossils our youngest is determined to find one and break Matthew’s record! Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would definitely come back next time without the kids to enjoy the peace, food, and a proper hike. It’s truly worth it!

The check in process is seamless and you are escorted to your room. BedRoom is spacious and bathroom is more spacious. The service is top notch. Game drive with Dumisani was also nice as he is knowledgeable about the animals and the game reserve. Breakfast you have to order from a menu and only one item, wish it was a mini buffet plus their portions are small. We had to order a burger 2 hours after breakfast. The dinner experience was amazing, setup was cozy and the portions were very good but on the pricy side. Downside: there is no privacy with the rooms plus they are close to each other, you can even hear your neighbors. The flooring is noisy when you walk, need to be stabilized more. Only eligible for 2 drinks for breakfast and one item on the menu. All activities are charged.

What an incredible experience! From arrival to departure the staff made our stay very special. The sky suite is a must - one has the most beautiful view from the balcony and the hot tub is an absolute treat. We also visited the spa on the premises. Very relaxing! The food at the restaurant is divine and the view as spectacular. Whether you are celebrating a special occasion or are just looking the escape the city bustle - this place is a must stay!

Review: We arrived an hour earlier for a booking made weeks in advance, and unfortunately, nothing was ready. We had to the also wait another 20 minutes in treatment rooms - our massage time was not adjusted. The staff appeared underqualified, and our room placement requests were ignored. The robes and slippers provided were not clean and seemed to have been reused from previous guests, which was very disappointing. The massages were far below standard and did not justify the price charged. We will not be returning or recommend to friends.

My wife and I were in Pretoria for a week and stayed in the Karoo suite (main floor BR, loft sleeping area, full-service kitchen, sitting area, patio, separate gate). The hosts were by far the best hosts we have ever encountered at a lodge/bed&breakfast/inn kind of place and went over and above all expectations during our stay. The staff was friendly, efficient, and helpful. The accommodations were very comfortable, pleasant, and relaxing. The location was very convenient for us and the nights quiet and restful. The food was very good and more than ample (we ordered dinners from them, but self-catered breakfast and lunch). Everything worked as expected/desired. If we ever get back to Pretoria, this is the place we want to stay. We highly recommend Ciara Lodge to you (be sure to visit the wildlife park outside of town, too, if you have any free time while in town.)

The place is beautiful and would be great to visit during warm season. We went there with my friends and the room had no aircon or heater to keep warm, it was cold. Apparently, we had to hire it from reception, ata cost. Nonetheless it's a beautiful lodge and the staff is very friendly. I rated it a 3 on service because there was no hot water in our bathroom. There might have been a fault somewhere, but we had to make a plan so that we could bath.

Fabulous Lodge!! This was our second time staying at Ciara Lodge. This year we stayed 9 nights and again absolutely loved our stay!! The lodge area is very safe, secure and centrally located. The chalets are beautifully decorated, very clean and with comfortable beds (often king size). We LOVED that the lodge had a refreshing pool. Thorn Tree Bush Camp is highly recommended for a real bush experience that connects you with nature. The Weeping Boerbean tent offers a quiet and private stay with a beautiful view of the bush, while the Monkey Thorn house provides a peaceful and well-equipped accommodation. The camp is known for its fantastic birding opportunities and game drives, as well as its helpful and friendly staff. Located just 60km from Pretoria, it offers an authentic and isolated bush experience that's well maintained and managed.
Our stay at Thorn Tree was the perfect bush breakaways. The campsite was well situated and the ablution well maintained. The staff where very helpful and the owner has a hands on approach which was reassuring on a busy long weekend. This is a camp we will definitely be visiting again and again.

We loved camping here, it is well maintained but basic as we expected. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We loved the bathroom and toilet that is assigned to each campsite. Boiler works great for hot water. It is located in Dinokeng so top lactation. It is best to go in the week as weekends can be busy and more noisy. Well worth a stay. Price can be a bit better as you need to payR75 pppd access to Dinokeng. If you want do self-drive you all need to pay R250 once off self drive permit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Thorn Tree Bush Camp, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the bush. Nights were filled with the calls of hyenas, jackals, and lions. The camp features a lovely pool with shade netting, perfect for relaxation. We opted for the simple yet comfortable single-bed tents, which met our needs. For those seeking more luxury, upgraded rooms are available. One suggestion for improvement is to update the bedding to white linens or plain and neutral colors like grey or khaki, as the current colorful options didn't quite fit the aesthetic. The tents came equipped with a bush kitchen, complete with pots, pans, braai gear, plates, and a gas plate. Hot water was always available in the communal bathroom, thanks to the reliable 'Donkie'. The tents and surrounding areas were well-lit, eliminating the need for additional lighting. While not luxurious, Thorn Tree Bush Camp offers a charming and authentic bush experience, surpassing our expectations compared to Pretorious Kop in the Kruger.

We absolutely love Thorn Tree Bush camp. We have camped there 3 times now and it ticks all the boxes! Quiet, complete privacy, our own private ablutions, Timothy on standby to bring wood or ice if we need but without hovering and great bird life! Rodney has the perfect combination of attention to detail while still roughing it and giving us the opportunity to completely get away from it all. Thanks to you and your team, we look forward to being back soon. Stanley & Marylou

If you're looking for somewhere to spend a single night it's fine, it's an acceptable place to stay. The room was spacious, clean and tidy but very strange. I can't describe this so I'll tell a story instead. We arrived at 2am (we got keys earlier) after a wedding nearby, hooting and buzzing at the gate to be let in. Desperate for a shower i opened the only other door in the room expecting a bathroom and found instead an unfurnished kitchen with a corridor leading away to more closed doors and a tiny shower. The shower room was so small I had to literally squeeze myself around the door to close it and I'm thin. The shower nozzles were severely blocked and sprayed water everywhere except onto me, being made of plastic the head started to bulge from the water pressure so I decided to give up rather than end up impaled by an exploding shower head. I squeezed past the door again to exit. By this point another bathroom was discovered behind a closed door I'd dismissed as a different suite so we managed to shower eventually. At this point I was exhausted and fell asleep in the enormous and quite comfortable bed. Breakfast was very simple; eggs, beans, bacon, hash browns, toast and some cereal. Not awful but not super appealing either. The whole place seems disjointed and (badly) renovated from whatever random buildings were available on the property. Would not stay again.

We stayed overnight at Graceland for our wedding at a nearby venue. Before the wedding, we ordered a light snack of chicken livers with a green salad. Unfortunately, we received chicken livers with bread and no salad. After returning from our wedding, we were on a high but found ourselves unable to take a shower as there was no water flowing in our unit. Shortly before midnight, the power in our unit also tripped. We had to go outside in our pajamas to locate a staff member, who eventually woke the manager. He explained that the power had tripped because guests were using their air conditioners, which also caused the water pump to lose power. Around 6 am the following morning, the power tripped again, so we had to wake the manager again to reset the electricity breaker. To add to our frustration, we couldn’t watch TV while getting dressed because the remote control didn’t work. Overall, the experience was more fitting for a one-star than a four-star establishment—an unfortunate disappointment on our wedding night.

Staff not organised and service is bad. They are not well staffed despite having gone on a long busy weekend. Our rooms were not ready, they had to change my sheets, TV was not ready ( some guy came to want to install decoder). Shower had not been maintained, I had to remove debris from the head for water to flow. The rooms are spacious. Then breakfast, this was a mess. They cannot manage their kitchen. They brought one item at a time…we waited more than an hour to finally eat and we had to ask for everything, spoon, cups, plates etc. I would not recommend this place at all

I dont wish people can go there. The picture they took is for marketing what you see it's not what you get when you arrive there. The owner is rude when she's not around she leaves the child to spy for her. Our rooms didn't have the microwave soh we requestedto warm up our food at their kitchen the staff was shouted for assisting us. The bed we slept on was not properly prepared. The were no sheets. 3 rooms didn't have warm water to run a bath. The rooms were filled with spiders and lizards. The security advised us to jot down our challenges so that when the Owner arrives she can at least read and attend to our challenges but she scratched everything that we wrote. I was using a red pen then she used a black pen to erase what I wrote. Their breakfast was well prepared but due to being short staffed we waited longer to receive what we want. She needs to hire more staff. You can't be preparing the food. Rooms and do laundry at same time somewhere somehow . Things won't go accordingly

Wow, what a way to ruin a great place. The staff is not friendly, not helpful or not equipped to help. With all the questions that we had they started avoiding us. The TV in our room didn't work. Cleaning staff comes around 3pm.breakfast was horrible daily (as if we were eating leftovers. The menu prepare for Christmas was not what they sent out. They made us pay for an extravagant menu only to be served Sunday dishes even I don't make at home, then all their staff joined us for the lunch then dessert was ice cream. Very disappointing place. Would not recommend anyone to go there. Very complacent staff that asks for things from guests

The room was not properly cleaned when we arrived. The blankets were not clean, even on the second day our bedding was not changed at all, like nothing. The kettle was not working. The bathroom towels were not change for the entire duration of our stay, which was two nights and 3 days. On our first night, we waited almost 2 hours for our dinner. On our third day we did not get our breakfast. I do not want to lie I am not happy at all. We even reported our experience to the reception desk before we left the premises.

Nestled in the breathtaking Magaliesberg Mountains, Thirsty Falls Nature Retreat is a hidden treasure that offers an enchanting escape into nature. Owned by the welcoming duo Allan and Jenny, this retreat provides a serene atmosphere where guests can unwind amidst stunning landscapes. The accommodations are impeccably maintained, featuring comfortable beds and all essential amenities for a relaxing stay.
My wife and I found Thirsty Falls owned by Allan and Jenny to be a truly magical place. We were wonderfully received by Jenny who looked after our needs throughout our stay of 5 nights. The units were spotless and well maintained. The bed was comfortable, the place was well equipped with all the necessary equipment. As far as the location, it was stunning, nestled against the Magaliesburg range. The sunsets are very beautiful and the night sounds of the animals relax you. There are a number of different species of animals that you can see on the adjoining properties as you ride in. The eco pool was also very refreshing and cooled us down when it became too hot. All in all a truly wonderful place that leaves you totally relaxed, very good host and hostess that saw to our every needs. Thank you and we will see you again.

We spent a wonderful weekend at Aloes House Thirsty Falls. The natural beauty and space was balm to the soul. Jenny and Alan are friendly and very helpful. Three large bedrooms all on-suite which is great. The natural swimming pool was much appreciated and very refreshing. Pair of black eagles and their fledgling was an added treat against the backdrop of their beautiful mountain.

Once you enter the property you have 13 mins of gravel road to travel before you arrive at Thirsty Falls. This I found challenging because I have a normal car, and it would make a remarkable difference if the road were be made easier to navigate The actual place is amazing, nature abounds, beautiful accommodation, attention to detail, and marvellous hosts If you need a respite from city life it comes highly recommended

This place is nothing short of amazing. It's serene and the location is stunning. Although the approach road is unpaved, the property is accessible even in a small sedan. The place is well equipped with the basics for cooking and has an awesome spa bath. Hosts are friendly and helpful. This is a perfect place for a weekend getaway from the city.

Wonderful stay in a beautiful setting. The mountains, the trees and the birdlife were wonderful. Saw/heard 40 species of birds just from the cottage over 2 nights (January). The house was spotless, well equipped and very cool. The ceiling fans were great. Beds were very comfortable. Jenny and Allen were lovely hosts. I highly recommend this little gem.

Odette is an amazing host, she really made us feel special, lots of attention to detail and I will never forget this birthday. The country house is beautiful with an amazing entrance and amazing views. The chef is an absolute star, the food is so good, you just want to take the chef home. We went on the mountain hike, which is a lovely experience close to nature. The pool is well looked after and one can spend quite some time enjoying it and soaking up some Vitamin D. Overall it is an amazing and relaxing experience, a 5 star experience and excellent value for money.

Friendly host Nadine immediately made us feel special and very welcome. She showed and explained all the venue's facilities and activities available. Beautiful setting with lovely bush views, super quiet and impressive accommodation. Every meal was a culinary masterpiece and staff both professional and caring. A genuine 5 star venue, which can highly recommend.

We spent a weekend at Cussonia Country Home, and it is actually quite difficult to find the appropriate words to describe the level of service and care we experienced. The service manager, Odette, went above and beyond to look after us, and spoil us. The chef, Abu, catered to our every wish. The food was simply magnificent! We will most certainly go back. This is THE place to go if you want to have a luxurious time, away from the hassle and stress of everyday life. We highly recommend it.
Hilda S — Google review
We were simply speechless and pleasantly surprised by the welcome, service and treatment we received from Odette and her staff at Cussonia Country Home. First and foremost: it is amazing that this type of peacefulness, tranquility and serenity could be found merely an hours’ drive from Pretoria. This place offers you a distinctive bushveld experience with breath-taking views over the landscape. Our room was as clean as a whistle with treats galore – from the super-soft, white gown, slippers, chocolate treats to bottled water in the fridge and home-made brownies at the coffee station. The towels and linen was crisp and fresh and the bathroom amenities and features a treat by itself. This reasonably priced stay was a blissful and pleasurable experience which we obviously thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated. Odette and staff, well done by offering us a commendable home away from home…
