1Tokorozawa Sakura Town

Business park
Tokorozawa Sakura Town is a contemporary cultural complex in Saitama Prefecture, Japan, dedicated to anime and Japanese pop culture. It houses the Kadokawa Culture Museum designed by architect Kuma Kengo and Musashino Reiwa Shrine featuring a ceiling mural by Amano Yoshitaka of Final Fantasy fame. The complex also includes the anime-themed EJ Anime Hotel, Canteen KADOKAWA cafeteria, and various eateries using locally sourced ingredients.
I enjoyed everything from the shrine, museum, to the lunch buffet. Even things I don’t usually eat tasted so good at the buffet. The shrine’s ceiling was beautiful and definitely worth the visit if you’re a Final Fantasy fan. I bought an amulet to pass my exams. The outside of the museum is such a site to see. The 8m(26ft) library is filled to the brim with manga and literature. Plus some pretty cool art pieces I didn’t want to spoil in the photos.

Magnificent architecture. The library area is also wonderful. The events were OK, but not worth travelling all the way to Tokorozawa for.
Ryann C — Google review
I think it is overrated. For a museum, it should have more content. For a tourist attraction, it should also have more. This place is good for one visit only and it is not for every body.
Joseph C — Google review
Absolutely beautiful space with the Kadokawa museum designed by Kengo Kuma. The complex is a bit far from Tokyo and take around 1 hour to arrive. However, the museum itself is well worth the trip. Built with 20,000 granite tiles, each weighing between 50 and 70 kilograms, the museum has 4-5 floors with a manga lounge, beautiful and huge library with tens of thousands of titles, a cafe and different exhibition and chill places. Highly recommended to check this place out if you have time, even if just for this architectural landmark.
Adam S — Google review
Beautiful place to visit with convenience access from Ikebukuro by the Seibu line. It is a great place for book and manga lovers. The restaurant on the fifth floor has an artsy and enjoyable environment, a good place for refreshment.
Desmond L — Google review
Wonderful day trip! Perfect spot for a casual date. Lots of very good food and shops. I really enjoyed the book store! They also have wonderful art exhibits and some beautiful Tori Gates. They also have the Borderless exhibit next to it so if you go in the afternoon when it gets dark you go right across the street for some wonderful sights and sounds!

Tokorozawa Sakura town is located in Higashi Tokorozawa, Saitama Prefecture. One evening I felt like going somewhere to enjoy my day, and I found this place. I didn’t know about this Sakura town before. It was a peaceful environment in a beautiful green area. Kadokawa Musashino Museum was a very interesting place to go. It’s a really unique Museum I've ever visited. It has a wonderful library and art gallery that everyone should visit. Actually, you must get tickets before entering all the places, and you can even buy a one-day passport. You can buy tickets at the counter or on their website. I entered Musashino Forest Park too. It was also incredibly beautiful. Not only adults but also children can enjoy it. They Have restaurants and cafes too. Please note that some cafes are closing earlier. The prices of foods were reasonable, and the foods were delicious. Before visiting there, check their website to learn about their holidays. There you can take many pictures, and I think all the pictures I took there were very beautiful. The reason is that the light falling on them is beautiful. If you also want to see a wonderful, quiet area outside of Tokyo, I recommend you go to Sakura Town and enjoy your day.
Prageeth A — Google review
Unique style of architecture. There it's a metal mesh Tori gate but I believe it will be a full of vines later because they have vibes growing at the base. So I believe this will be nature + modern art. It still is currently in it's soft opening, so a lot of areas are closed. Only cafe, restaurant, mobile cafe, n teamLab is open. Once everything is open, I believed it will be a great area. If you want to go too three museum, makes sure to make reservations, as this is to help limit people in, sure to covid19. This is a great way to prevent further spreading.

Water & Amusement Parks
Theme park
Seibuen Amusement Park offers a nostalgic experience with its Shōwa era theme. The park features a variety of classic rides and attractions, including a Godzilla attack ride and an Astro Boy attraction based on the popular Osamu Tezuka manga. In addition to retro classics, visitors can enjoy modern amenities such as a lazy river, wave pool, and water slides during the summer months. The park also hosts lively water battles during the day and captivating fireworks displays in the evening.
This is a amusement park that is based on nostalgic theme (Showa Era) The theme, performances and rides are mostly leisure based and it's really different from that of Disneyland or Universal Studio. Overall it was a great place to visit especially if you want to experience nostalgia. Date: 22 November 2024

This park was a lot more enjoyable than I expected it to be. I came here a few years ago, but it has changed a lot since then. The style of the park turned very retro and the theme made my mother nostalgic. Even though we went on a Thursday, mid June (there were not many people) the employees still performed amazing shows that kept the mood of the park fun. I would definitely recommend going here if you are visiting Japan! (Also, I would recommend going on a weekday, so you can avoid messy lines)
Yorika ( — Google review
Great amusement park with 8D short film of (Ultraman, Godzilla) , varieties of rides and it was quiet as it was a weekday so no queue for us . The view from the observation tower was beautiful . You just pay for car parking using the parking machine before you enter the amusement park.
Missy C — Google review
Older amusement park and we went to check out Ultraman's movie/ride. For the nostalgia it is a great spot to visit... The cast members performance is 5/5, amazing. They are 100% committed to their roles and love their dedication. When we got there, we were promptly greeted and guided to the right spot. He even offered to take our picture. I wish I had his name... Older gentleman. Most rides were open and some closed and we didn't mind it at all. We went on a weekday and it was pretty empty but worth the trip out. Unfortunately they didn't have the Ultraman and instead had Godzilla movie/ride and that was awesome. It was pretty intense and also loved it.
Will — Google review
Had the most fun time at Seibuen! Saw lots of families but also plenty of couples like ourselves (late 20’s) having fun on all the rides! 5 stars as we did have a really fun time and also because the staff there are exceptional! We arrived at about 1ish and went to the ticket desk to purchase tickets and the lady informed us that Godzilla will be starting soon and Ultraman will close in 5 minutes. She asked if we would want to see ultraman and I said we would but that it’s no problem if not (we are bigger Godzilla fans). She spoke to the ride operators and they agreed to hold the ride for us so we could experience Ultraman, we went through the gates and were escorted directly there! 10/10, would never get that service here in the UK!
Emily P — Google review
The 5D movie and the Shouwa Street was pretty cool. It might be an ok place for kids, but I don't think it worth as much for adults considering the ticket price.
Steven Y — Google review
Loved it! Very relaxing and nice atmosphere. Time to enjoy all the attractions without the stress of lining for 1hrs. Super main attraction with Ultraman and Godzilla!
Ilaria C — Google review
A very good place to visit. If you like old Japan.....the 360 4D video in cinema is a surprise. Similar items in Disney land or universal studio require to cue for 1-2hrs. Although not much activities, but I love the atmosphere there. The staff r energetic and nice, even we don't under English. You might spend 4-5 hrs if u come with kid.

The Tokorozawa Aviation Museum is a must-visit for aviation enthusiasts and history buffs. It stands as a testament to the birthplace of Japanese aviation, showcasing an impressive collection of vintage aircraft and interactive exhibits that chronicle the country's aviation history. Visitors can explore a range of planes and helicopters, from early models to modern aircraft, with the opportunity to climb inside some of them. The museum also offers 3D movies in an IMAX theater, adding an immersive element to the experience.
Son had fun seeing the planes in the museum. Very interactive place as well with simulators. Could have been a bigger place so the planes aren’t crowded altogether for better photos. Entrance is cheap. Only paid ¥620 for 1 adult and 1 child.
Em D — Google review
I wanted to see something amazing, but it was just normal. The main room is exciting with lots of aircraft displayed. Especially like the ones up above, hanging from the ceiling. Some have stairs to examine the cockpit and one you can climb into for pictures. The history of the airfield is also enjoyable. However they suggest that it is the site of a former aircraft memorabilia stockpile. Where did all that cool stuff go?!? I want to see. Also World War II receives little discussion. Some interactive areas and displays for kids. There are four stamps in the main exhibition hall. Three with various aircraft and one postcard style with five colors. 520 yen entrance fee. Parking free for two hours. The parking lot seemed to have space when I departed in the early afternoon. There also might be free street parking (the signs say no, but lots of cars there).
David B — Google review
Tokorozawa Aviation Museum is an excellent place to learn about the history of airplanes and helicopters. The exhibits are very educational and presented in a way that even children can enjoy, making it a very child-friendly environment. The ticket price is low and definitely worth it—I recommend everyone to buy the tickets. Inside, you can even sit inside a real airplane, try an airplane simulation game, and enjoy many more interactive experiences. Overall, it’s one of the best places to visit for both families and aviation enthusiasts.
Suman C — Google review
Small museum but lots of cool aircraft. There’s a sim as well and some other related exhibits like ATC and some aviation history related stuff.
Eric W — Google review
Nice museum but not too big - only 8-9 planes indoor and the Commando outside. Unfortunately, the museum covers only post war planes. So, no Zero and other famous (and brilliant) japanese made planes from WW2. Overall, the ride from DT Tokyo is quite long (90min per way) and I wouldn’t invest that much time for this again.
Roland Z — Google review
Amazing!!! Exceeded expectations, great day out for a 43 degree heat outside for families…. It was worth the 3hr drive in heavy traffic to get here I would come back again it’s that good ! Flight simulator, planes to sit in and a movie theater and interactive games and workshops and only ¥840 for adult kids free below 6 years
Richard B — Google review
Good place to visit! The price is cheap around $ 5.7 for adult including the movie theater ticket.
Dang H — Google review
Very nice place with nice collection of aircraft with hands on experience. They have a small movie theatre as well. With the ticket you can have a re-entry as food is not allowed inside. Huge park outside the museum.

Park
Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Park spans 50 hectares and is a must-visit for aviation enthusiasts. The park houses the Tokorozawa Aviation Museum, which offers a close-up look at vintage aircraft and provides insight into Japan's aviation history. The expansive grounds, once an airfield, now feature leafy paths, sports courts, and a playground for locals to enjoy.
Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Park is a wonderful place to spend time with family and friends. The park is very large, peaceful, and clean, with plenty of open green spaces for walking, picnics, and relaxation. It’s also child-friendly, with playgrounds and areas where kids can run around safely. Inside the park, there is the Tokorozawa Aviation Museum, where you can learn about the history of airplanes and helicopters. The combination of nature and history makes this park very special. I highly recommend visiting—it’s one of the best places for a relaxing day and also for learning about Japan’s aviation history.

Large open park with on display aircraft and numerous monuments and markers detailing Japanese aviation events.

Big and fantastic park in Tokorozawa area. It is very near from Koku koen station on seibu Shinjuku line. It contains free and paid games for kids, wide green areas, aviation museum.

Awesome park with something for everyone. Lots of beautiful old growth trees, fields, running/walking and biking routes, sports fields, basketball courts, large children's playground area, and peaceful gardens/pond, and a few food trucks. Plenty of drinking fountains for people and pets alike throughout the park. We've seen periodical swap/flea market. Multiple parking areas that are free for the first couple hours any day of the week. General park area seems to be accessible 24/7 with free admission.

This park celebrates the first avian runway in Japan. You will encounter various types of aircrafts that are displayed in some open spaces. Those who are not interested in aircraft’s can also enjoy the park. A flight simulator is available.
Daichi S — Google review
Very wide open park with an aviation related museum and many other things to see. Nice during cherry blossom season. Parking for fee for cars, but motorcycles can park for free in dedicated parking area next to northern ‘museum’ car parking. Motorcycles can enter to the left (when entering) of the car parking gate. Exit from the same lane.

The Kadokawa Musashino Museum is a remarkable cultural complex located in Saitama, just over an hour from central Tokyo. It is part of the Tokorozawa Sakura Town complex and was designed by renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. The museum features the impressive Bookshelf Theater library, which houses 50,000 books on 8-meter-high shelves. In addition to the library, visitors can explore displays on anime, cafes, and a Grand Gallery within this striking architectural masterpiece.
Went and visited this museum because it had an idolm@ster Cinderella Girls art exhibition. The surrounding area is pretty neat and quiet. Off the beaten track and not a lot of foreigners I encountered so a great plus. The exhibit had artworks featuring idols from the game and also highlighting the surrounding area of Musashino. It actually got me interested to take a look around the area if I visit Musashino again.
Edmund L — Google review
A wonderful complex that has a modern shrine dedicated to the god of sake, a rock library museum building and a lovely cafe that serves locally grown food. The museum has many sections in addition to the iconic library theatre. There are local archives of the tama area developments, model of a house from the Showa period, manga exhibition, and another theatre showing digital art. One can easily spend a day in this big museum site.
Gladys H — Google review
Very neat and informational exhibitions/performances. The vast libraries of Kadokawa light novels and manga were so cool to see gathered in one monolith sized building. Absolutely worth the cost of admission. Also worth noting the museum is surrounded by a venue, the day my group went they had all sorts of food trucks and a concert going on, so there was no shortage of things to be interested in if someone in your traveling group isn’t completely sold on going.
Andrew B — Google review
The building is an architectural masterpiece. Its exterior structure, made of imposing granite panels, is stunning and blends modern design with traditional Japanese elements. It features a gigantic library with projection mapping, where the shelves transform into a screen of lights and colors. It also houses a collection focused on Japanese pop culture and a dedicated manga and book library. Sensational!
Mayara R — Google review
Kind of far but if you are a fan of Kuma or good architecture, it is well worth the visit. We booked a slot in advance but now think of it, not sure you need it. There is a fabulous Tonkatsu place on the left on the way there.

Bodies of Water
Sayama Lake, also known as Yamaguchi Reservoir, is an artificial reservoir completed in 1934 to supply Tokyo's water needs. Located between the cities of Tokorozawa and Iruma, it is surrounded by the prefectural Sayama Nature Park, home to 20,000 cherry trees that blossom in spring. The serene spot offers opportunities for picnics, leisurely strolls, birdwatching and boat rentals. Visitors can enjoy scenic views of Mt.
It is indeed a neat place to go to unwind and escape the busy city. Either you go early in the morning or during sunset, the view will still be interesting. You can also bring some snacks and drinks if you will be chilling around! (ig: @tamasiro)

This was a nice park to take a stroll through or ride a bike. Its nice and quiet so its great place for a picnic or to allow your children play. There's not a whole lot of playground equipment but there is some. Also there's a beautiful view of Sayama lake. It doesn't cost anything to enter so its a nice free trip. And just in case your wondering, you can't access that bridge with the pointy building. It seems to belong to the water company. I recommend this park if you're in the area.
Kelly J — Google review
Sayama Lake, originally called Yamaguchi Lake, is a man-made reservoir that was built using an earthen dam, which was completed in 1929. Due to a lack of heavy earth-moving equipment in Japan at that time, the dam was constructed mostly by farmers who used picks and shovels. The majority of the workers were farmers hired to do the work after the growing season had come to a close. A total of 1,720 villagers were forced to leave their homes to make way for the dam as demand for fresh water increased with a population explosion in Tokyo. During WWII, the embankment of the dam was reinforced with ballistic-resistant concrete and the towers were reinforced with a bullet-proof exterior as measures against the Tokyo air raids. The design of the intake towers was heavily influenced by the trends of western architecture that were poplar in Japan in the early 20th century, as can be seen by the use of red bricks on the exterior, copper roofing, and artistic design elements above the doorway to the tower's interior. Although the bridge is currently painted white, early color photos from many decades ago show a bridge painted in a copper-red coat of paint, which makes it look like a miniature version of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. On the occasion that the reservoir is partially drained for maintenance work on the water intake towers, remnants of the villages that were submerged can still be seen. Since the reservoir is used to provide fresh water to the residents of Tokyo, the lake itself is off limits to any human activity in the water: no swimming, no boating, no fishing, etc. The hills surrounding the lake are also off limits. Except for the promenade running across the top of the dam, high fencing with several bands of barbwire encircle the rest of the hills that feed water into the lake. The lack of human access has created a small oasis of natural habitat where various species of insects, birds, mammals and flora can flourish. ★★Check out the Pix4Japan YouTube channel for a short video highlighting the vibe of this location.★★

This place is worth visiting! Its view is pleasing to the eye and so relaxing. I wrote about this on my blog (thepinayajumma.com). Please check it out. I would have given it a 5-star rate if it wasn’t for the accessibility. It’s accessible by train but tricky to get there from the station. I think more English signs should be put up for clear guidance.

Totoro’s Forest No. 1, located in Saitama, Japan, is a serene and enchanting destination that has inspired the popular anime film 'My Neighbor Totoro.' Just a short distance from Seibu Kyujomae Station, this forest offers walking trails and features a Totoro statue. It's an ideal spot for fans of Studio Ghibli movies and nature enthusiasts alike. The forest boasts beautiful lakes, vast skies, and abundant wildlife.
It is a natural forest where you can watch rare butterflies A nice oasis of nature perfect for a walk to enjoy the fresh and cool air Just don’t forget mosquito repellent

A few areas had been closed when we visited for logging older trees so it was a lot of a smaller trail than we expected. Make sure to take a drink with you and pa e yourself as some of the inclines are very steep.
Dan G — Google review
Hidden in the wooded folds of Sayama Hills lies a network of small forest parcels known as the Totoro Forests (トトロの森). Quiet paths weave through mossy ground, oak and cedar trees, and gentle slopes, carrying a sense of old Japan that has become rare around Tokyo’s edge. The forests are not vast, but each plot whispers its own story — of nature under threat, of community action, and of restoration. In 1990, local environmentalists and supporters — led by Hayao Miyazaki — established a foundation to protect what remained of these woods. Over the years, they purchased dozens of forest sites, preserving them from development and neglect. Today, these woodland patches are maintained as small sanctuaries: trails guide visitors around, yet the interior remains untouched; rules and respect are essential to keep them whole. Despite its fame among Ghibli fans, Totoro Forest is not a theme park. It is a conservation project first, a living example of how small, persistent efforts can protect nature at the fringe of urban sprawl.

If you are a fan of Studio Ghibli’s movies and the beauty of Japanese nature, the Totoro Forest in Saitama will be a destination you don’t want to miss. Just one hour from Tokyo's center by train or bus, you will find yourself being immersed in the generosity of mother nature. A deep forest with beautiful lakes, a vast sky and thousands of amazing living creatures awaits you.

Buddhist temple
Yamaguchikannon is a historical temple with cultural treasures, including a wooden thousand-armed kannon statue. It was visited by the loyalist commander Niita Yoshisada during the end of Kamakura Period. The Konjo-in Hoko-ji at the top of a hill is considered one of the best temples in the area, with gorgeous scenery and buildings erected by Kobo Daishi. The temple offers a scenic precinct and various Buddhist elements.
This place is a hidden gem. Me and my friend went here on a Sunday morning and it was not crowded at all. There are many parking options. There is no requirement of buying a ticket. There are many temples for a lot of causes so you can pray to the ones you need. There is an omamori and omikuji service as well and you can buy them without the presence of the staff. The temples were beautiful and I loved the overall vibe of this place. There are dragons by the stairs and it looks beautiful. There are also benches, vending machines and a small cafe nearby to relax at. Overall, I had a great experience and I'll be going here again.

A unique Kannon temple reminiscent of Southern China. Remarkable ornamentation, especially the undulating iron dragons spanning the hill. You can pray to all seven lucky gods here, “feed” the horse a carrot votive tablet and spin Tibetan prayer wheels.

Higashi Tokorozawa Park is a serene retreat with stunning natural beauty throughout the year. In spring, the park is adorned with beautiful cherry blossoms, while in autumn, vibrant foliage paints the landscape. The park features a charming pond that becomes home to ducks and koi fish. At night, parts of the park host the 'Resonating Life in the Forest' event by teamLab, known for their digital art installations.
A really lovely little park with a small walking path throughout. The acorns exhibit was closed while I was there due to it being the day after a national holiday but it was still a nice place to feel away from the bustle of the city.
Josiah H — Google review
Went to see the team lab installation and it was just magical ❤️ During this winter season, you'll be able to see them light up from 4:30-5PM onwards. Only con I see would be the slightly pricey entrance fee (right now it's 1200円). One should also try out the tea at the shop right in front!
Rin R — Google review
Outdoor teamlabs exhibit. If you only do one of their sites, I would recommend one of the bigger ones, but if you're near Tokorozawa or if you're really into teamlabs, this one is worth checking out.
N M — Google review
The permanent light installation by TeamLab is quite small, but interesting nonetheless! The oval shaped objects represent acorns which was the main food staple for the Jomon people during Jomon period. I think the colors are much better in the evening but if you plan to explore the park, afternoons may be better.
Alexis B — Google review
Acorn forest with dreamy artworks! Really enjoyed team lab’s unique presentation. It was a very small exhibition but the photos looked stunning & fabulous. Similar exhibitions are available on other cities of Japan as well but this one is very close to Tokyo. Easily accessible by car or train. This is a perfect place for holiday outing with FnF. ‘Entrance fee’ seemed pricey to me. One should reach here at least 30 minutes before sunset to experience 2 views of this small acorn forest.

Dome
Belluna Dome, also known as Seibu Dome, is the home stadium of the Saitama Seibu Lions professional baseball team. Situated in the scenic Sayama Hills, this semicovered dome allows natural breezes to flow through during events. After a three-year renovation completed in 2021, it reopened as a new type of ballpark that hosts not only baseball games but also concerts and other events.
Very cool hybrid dome that covers the stadium but the sides are open to the outdoors. Make sure if you're sitting on the first base side to take a left and if 3rd base side take a right towards the playground so you don't have to walk all the way back around since regular tickets cannot go behind home plate. Also if you are like me and need to catch the limited express line out of there, make sure to buy the reserved seats from their booth at the train gates.
Logan K — Google review
Absolutely delightful dome. The fact it’s open air on the sides brings in fresh air and can offer a slight breeze. The seats were wide and very comfortable, bathrooms and concessions were easy to locates and lines were short. The team store is outside the ticketed area so if you go during the game make sure to bring your ticket for reentry to the game.
Cam V — Google review
Much bigger than it looks from the outside. The open air dome concept is awesome! Nice field and comfortable seats as well. Lots of food options and the train station is literally right next to the stadium. PRO TIP- buy a limited express ticket for your departure prior to the game.

Belluna Dome in Saitama holds a special place in my heart as the venue for the unforgettable Lady Gaga concert I attended in Japan. The acoustics were exceptional, amplifying every note and creating an immersive experience for the audience. The setting itself was stunning, with a spacious layout that allowed for seamless movement and excellent visibility from every angle. Additionally, the venue's convenient location and direct transport options made it easily accessible for fans coming from different parts of Japan. It's not just a concert venue; it's a place where music transcends boundaries and creates lasting memories for fans like me.
Genta — Google review
Fun stadium but it's a bit out of the way. It's a trek to get to from Kanagawa, but there is good food and beer here. I recommend bringing a fan because it's stuffy under the roof. There is ample parking about an 8 minute walk, but the train station exit is at the gates to the stadium. The stadium takes credit card at basically every kiosk and there are plenty of bathrooms. The atmosphere for the game was alright, but not stellar. It's worth the trip if you want to see the Lions play.

Sayama Ski Resort offers a unique experience with its roof-covered slope, allowing visitors to enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and sledding across three seasons. The resort provides kids' classes and equipment rentals for a convenient and family-friendly experience. While some visitors found the prices relatively high compared to other options in Japan, others appreciated the easy access from Tokyo and the great facilities available at the resort.
It was really exciting time. Me and my parents enjoyed skiing for about 3 hours. There are some instructors that are very kind. Great place for beginners and mid class because the slope was not steep
Charlie B — Google review
we enjoyed our time in the sayama ski resort but we only stayed in the snow park since we have kids. Definitely a good option for families near Tokyo.
Rowell S — Google review
It is an indoor ski resort located at Tokorozawa which is not too far away from Tokyo. It is a great spot to go to if you can’t wait to snowboard but all other resorts are not open yet. It is not crowded during the weekday and the snow condition feels like spring slushy snow which is good for beginner as well.
Dylan L — Google review
Review coming from a beginner. The service is pretty good but the length of ski is rather short. The ice is not so soft so hurts a bit when you are doing for the first time and keep falling, but as you get the hang of it, it's fun. Rental service available 4200 yen for clothes shoes and board. 3100 for 4 hour pass. Overall if someone wants to experience skiing without going to a mountain it's great.
Varun N — Google review
Service was amazing and so was the rentals. Only problem was that it was just too much money I spent 10,000 yen for a day pass and rentals this may not seem much but in japan this could buy like 2 weeks worth of groceries. Slope was great but there isn't much room for beginners like myself and considering that there were highly skilled people it made it hard to get the feel off it. Overall this place is great but there are better options in turns of price.

I don’t know if this place is more crowded on holidays/weekends but we went on a regular weekday and it was very empty. No waiting line for anything. This place is good for absolute beginners to get a feel for the snow and get the basic knowledge of snowboarding or skiing. Not recommended for higher level skiers, as it doesn’t offer any challenge at all.

For Studio Ghibli enthusiasts, the Totoro Fund - Kurosuke’s House is an enchanting destination that brings the magic of "My Neighbor Totoro" to life. Nestled within the picturesque Totoros Forest, this charming abode has a history spanning over a century and is named after the adorable soot sprites from the film. A visit here feels like stepping into a beloved animated world.
This was an amazing experience!!! Location : Tokorozawa, Mikajima Transportation: train + local bus ( around 1.5 hours from Tokyo city ) Clean: Tidy and clean Atmosphere: 💯 This is my solo trip to Tokyo this time. Did a bit of research before going to Totoro Forest. First thing should do : Register online before you go. Make a reservation!!! Two sections on everyday. Morning and afternoon. I prefer a relax one , not rushing in morning time . That’s the reason I picked the afternoon section. This was nice visiting this place. The staff there provide small game, help to check out every bit around the place. I spent almost 2 hours in the site. Hang around, take picture. It was really fun tho. Have a small souvenir corner. Three types of maps selling there, for simple leisure walk / Forest walk.
CC S — Google review
Amazing place! The staff is so nice and kind. You have to book in advance and the entrance fee is 500 yen in cash. There is a huge totoro sitting in the house and you can take pictures of it. There are also activities like treasure finding and making an art piece (500 yen) They ask to not post pictures online of the house. I recommend this place to whoever wants to spend a chill afternoon!
Aditi — Google review
The forest path does not exist, it is just covered by plants and absolutely unmantained, no path there 100 m after the start, Totoro forest can not be visited. They give you a map, but there's nothing there. How's that?

was great to see the inspiration for Totoro! a couple of things to do here but would not be great for young children as it’s mostly just looking around. Also did the walk up Hira hill which was nice if a little difficult to navigate. If you get to the end there’s a nice place to watch the sunset from.

Nestled in the heart of Iruma, the Iruma City Museum ALIT is a delightful destination for tea enthusiasts and families alike. This unique museum offers an immersive experience into the world of Sayama Tea, showcasing its rich history and cultural significance alongside insights into Iruma City's natural beauty. Small museum that's well-maintained, with a little shop inside. The permanent exhibition cost ¥200 to view, whereas any occasional special exhibitions cost extra. There's a science room for kids to explore, a section about the history and geography of Iruma and it's surrounding areas, as well as a floor about tea. Everything is in Japanese, but it's a nice place to spend a rainy morning or afternoon.
S F — Google review
Larger and more interactive than most local history museums. 200 yen entry fee. The first room has some fun optical illusions and science experiments. Next is wildlife both past and present. Then several areas with history of the area. Last room is about green tea.
David B — Google review
Family friendly museum in Iruma with a big focus on tea. One of the few tea museums in the world. The ground floor (1st floor) is mainly free to peruse and play in. The upper floor where the tea exhibits are costs 200 yen for adults and 50 yen for children. They hold a number of free events as well as ones that you have to pay for. You can try your hand at the Japanese tea ceremony a couple of times a month. They have a great "experience area" for kids with Japanese traditional toys and crafts available on the weekend. There is a tea shop and restaurant on site. Parking is free and plentiful. Close to Costco and Mitsui Outlet in Iruma. By public transport you need to get a bus from Iruma station on the seibu ikebukuro line.

(Translated by Google) It is about 5 minutes walk from Kumano Shrine. I visited the museum on its opening day. There was indeed a sign at the entrance stating the opening date, so when I entered the premises and rang the doorbell several times, no one answered. I could faintly see from the outside that there was a Noh mask displayed right after entering the entrance. The front door was open, so I peeked my head inside to check, but no one was there. The lights were off at the entrance where the Noh masks were displayed. I couldn't just enter the door anymore, so I rang the doorbell one last time, but no one answered, so I gave up and went home. I don't know if it was a mistake or something, but it's a shame that I couldn't watch it. There are also local products of Tokorozawa. For example; beer, Sayama tea, coffee, sweets, bakery, and produce. I had the coffee from the cafe, it was decent for your local cafe. There were other things on the menu, but I couldn't read it as it was all in Japanese. So, I just did what I normally do, order an ice coffee. For those who gave it a lower rating, I'm not sure why because it is a cultural center of the city. It's not supposed to be an entertainment area. It represents the local goods and culture of the area. However, I will say that they could've done more with the land. It had so much more potential.

[Atmosphere] ⭐︎4 It feels like a small and cute Western confectionery shop. If it's crowded, waiting inside the store may be a little difficult. It's hard to tell, but I thought there was only a few parking spaces right next to the store, but there was a parking lot on the other side of the road. The store staff will also be kind to you. It's very stylish and I think it's something Tokorozawa is proud of. This time, we had two orders made to order: a pregnancy announcement cake and a gender announcement cake. For the gender report cake, we were able to arrange the fruit on the top and specify the contents of the cake. Both cakes were very beautiful and very cute, and I had a wonderful time with my family. I never thought that the cake shop I had been going to since I was in elementary school would take care of me even as I prepared to become a mother! And I was really happy and touched by the fact that I had to ask so many questions about how difficult it was for me! My grandmother was also there for the gender reveal, so I put a sugar doll from Cozy Corner on top to make it easier to see, but the cake was cute enough without it. Nestled within the serene Sayama Hills near Lake Sayama in Tokorozawa City, Arahata Fuji Citizen's Forest is a hidden gem that beautifully blends nature and spirituality. This well-maintained area offers visitors a peaceful retreat where they can immerse themselves in the sounds of chirping birds and rustling leaves. The highlight here is undoubtedly the Arahata Fuji Shrine, which provides an incredible vantage point to admire Mount Fuji framed by its iconic torii gate.

(Translated by Google) I think this is the best place in this area (Tokorozawa, Iruma, Kawagoe, Kiyose, Higashikurume, etc.) to see the view of Mt. Fuji. There is a large shrine of a splendid shrine on this site, and an ``observatory'' like a small hill was built right next to it with the cooperation of the local people at the time. It looks a little taller than a child's imagination, but it was built by hand a long time ago, so if you take that into consideration when climbing, your perspective will change a bit. When you climb to the top, you will be surprised to see a huge 360 degree panoramic view! The day was May 28, 2021, so it was practically the start of the rainy season, so it wasn't a clear day and it was almost cloudy, but I could clearly see Mt. Fuji with the naked eye! ! ! (It seems that the photo cannot be taken unless you zoom in) As I mentioned at the beginning, as mentioned in the reviews, there are countless so-called, "A place where you can see Mt. Fuji" I think this is the place with the best view in this area. There is also ``DoReMi Hill'' nearby, where you can spread out your lunch and relax, so it's a relaxing way to spend time hiking. On that day, I didn't know where the nearby parking lot was, so I went to the Saitama Prefecture Sayama Hills Ikimono Fureai no Sato Center counter, which has jurisdiction over this area, to ask about the location of the parking lot, but they didn't respond. I would like to add that the staff members were very kind. However, when I came to see it on a clear day on June 12th, I couldn't see it at all 💧 It's the same on other days 💧 Basically it's hard to see 💧 I think it really depends on luck 💧 (Original)

Visitors can also explore a shrine and zoo within the park's vast grounds.
Absolutely stunning that such a quiet and serene place can exist in the midst of an extremely busy and bustling metropolitan setting. The driving range, kick target, strikeout court, and car wash were open, but our destinations, the bowling and batting cages, didn't open until 10:00 AM, so we decided to wait a bit. The bowling alley has many lanes, so players aren't packed in tightly, which was great because we could play without worrying about the people next to us. Our family of five enjoyed two hours of unlimited bowling for 2,200 yen per hour, playing three games. It was a great deal compared to the regular price. You can rent bowling shoes for 300 yen. I recommend bowling. It's true that the various facilities are aging, and the kick target (soccer) area was disappointing because there weren't enough balls and the air pressure was insufficient. The futsal court was also flooded by the rain. We didn't use the hot springs, but there were many cars parked there, so I imagine it's popular. Some of the facilities are inadequate, but I think anyone junior high school age or younger would have plenty of fun. Even though this concert hall is a municipal one, it's literally a proper concert hall with rich acoustics. All the secondary school band students living in this area have opportunities to perform in such a nice concert hall at the band competition. Alto, world-class artists sometimes perform here as well.

Smallish castle ruins park. Lots of trees and places to sit and enjoy the day. There are two shrines as you enter the park from the southwest but I totally missed them due to the trees. There is a small pond in the north section. It’s a pleasant park but with an elevated highway not that far away which is a bit distracting in an otherwise peaceful place.

Nestled just a short bus ride from Kotesashi Station, Kitanoten Shrine offers a serene escape into nature. The shrine grounds are beautifully illuminated by sunlight filtering through the trees, creating a peaceful atmosphere that is especially inviting during Golden Week when crowds are minimal. This historic site comprises three shrines: Mononobe Tenjin Shrine, Kokuijigi Shrine, and Tenma Tenjin Shrine, with roots tracing back to ancient Japanese legends.
(Translated by Google) I visited Kitano Tenjin Shrine. It's about 5 minutes by bus from Kotesashi Station on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line. It's right next to the Tenjin-mae stop. Officially, it is the collective name for the three shrines: Mononobe Tenjin Shrine, Kokuijigi Shrine, and Tenma Tenjin Shrine. It is said that it was founded in ancient times, dating back to the time of the legend of Japan's Takeru Takeru who marched to the east. It has a great history and formality, but the precincts are also quite spacious and have a lot of things to see. There is a Dainagon plum tree dedicated to Maeda Toshiie, a divine horse made of straw, a splendid worship hall, the mascot Kotemaru-kun, and a gorgeous Sessha-endsha shrine. In particular, Kotesashi Shrine and Aviation Shrine are quite splendid for a separate shrine. The trees are lush and you can feel refreshed just by taking a walk. I also received two wonderful red stamps from Kitano Tenjin Shrine and three shrines. It was a wonderful shrine that made me want to visit again and again. A cool looking shrine that I assume is supposed to relate to Mount Fuji. The hill is shaped like Fuji, has a winding stairway, and there are various monuments along the route. Nestled along the serene Katsura River, Tokko no Yu is a charming public footbath that offers visitors a unique experience of naturally heated spring water. This open-air oasis is steeped in history, with legends tracing back to the Buddhist monk Kobo Daishi, who is said to have created this hot spring by striking a rock with his walking stick.
You can visit and use this free hot spring at night. There was no one there at 7:00 PM, and the calmness and tranquility were exceptional. Don’t forget to bring your own towel.
Dima B — Google review
This historic onsen embodies the soul of Shuzenji, where natural thermal springs have been cherished since the 9th century. According to legend, the great Buddhist monk Kobo Daishi struck the ground here with his tokko (ritual implement), causing the first hot spring to gush forth - giving the baths their name and sacred reputation. The Experience: • Traditional wooden architecture that has welcomed bathers for generations • Waters particularly valued for their skin-smoothing properties • Peaceful garden views from the bathing areas While not luxurious by modern standards, Tokko no Yu offers something rarer - an authentic connection to Japan's onsen traditions. The adjacent free foot bath (ashiyu) lets passersby sample the waters, continuing the communal spirit that has defined this spot for over 1,200 years. More than just a bath, it's a living piece of Izu's cultural heritage. Tip: Visit early morning when steam rises dramatically from the waters. The nearby Tokko-no-Yu Chaya serves excellent post-bath matcha. Historical Note: Heian-period aristocrats and Edo-era samurai all made pilgrimages to these waters, believing in their restorative powers. The current building preserves design elements from Meiji-era renovations. Perfect for: • Onsen traditionalists • History enthusiasts • Those seeking the "real Japan" beyond tourist spots • Walking tours of Shuzenji's spiritual sites

Historical landmark
Yanase-so, also known as the former villa of Yasuemon Matsunaga, is a beautiful building located at the bottom of a cliff. The villa, belonging to the "power king" from Iki Island, can only be visited on Thursdays and may be challenging to access via public transportation. The Edo period private house features deep earthen floors and high-ceilinged tatami rooms that exude simplicity and elegance.
(Translated by Google) This is the former villa called Yanase Sanso of Yasuzaemon Matsunaga (Mimian), a businessman known as the ``electric power demon,'' and it was opened in March 1945 along with works of art that were in the possession of the Tokyo National Museum. It is home to ``Korinkaku,'' which has been designated as an important cultural property of the country because it clearly shows the characteristics of donated private houses from the Edo and Tenpo periods, as well as ``Shagetsu-tei,'' a shoin-zukuri style house, and ``Kugian,'' a tea room. The tea room ``Shunsoro'' in the garden of the Tokyo National Museum was originally located at Yanase Sanso. On Thursdays, the exterior of Orinkaku is open to the public, except for the dirt floor, and on the second Thursday of every month (except August), volunteers light the stove from 10 a.m. to noon. This is a wonderful space with a rich farmer's house, an elegant tea room, and a beautiful Musashino forest. Buddhist temple
Jōrenji Temple, located in Tokyo, is home to the third largest bronze Buddha statue in Japan. The temple also boasts fascinating deity statues representing hell and good fortune, as well as ancient stone statues from Korea. Despite being relatively unknown, it's a popular spot for locals on New Year's Day. The serene and quiet atmosphere makes it a great place for a day trip. While the temple is peaceful and impressive, some areas around the pond may be closed off to visitors.
Our favorite place, especially on New Year’s Day. It’s funny when I tell people that there is a Tokyo Daibutsu. Even people who grew up in Tokyo or have lived here a long time don’t know about it. It seems like our local secret. That said, it is certainly crowded at New Years. We are very grateful to have this amazing cultural asset and spiritual center so close to our home. Thank you 🙏🎉😄

Hidden in the quiet area of Itabashi, Joren-ji Temple is one of those peaceful places that makes you forget you’re still in Tokyo. The atmosphere is calm and spiritual, surrounded by trees, small stone statues, and a sense of stillness that’s rare in the city. The highlight is definitely the Great Buddha (Tokyo Daibutsu) — a beautiful 13-meter bronze statue that feels both majestic and gentle. It’s not crowded like Asakusa or Kamakura, so you can really take your time to sit, reflect, or take photos without rush. It’s a perfect spot for anyone looking for tranquility, quiet reflection, or a hidden piece of Tokyo’s history.

When thinking of Daibutsu, or Great Buddha statues, the majority of people immediately picture the one at Nara's Tōdaiji Temple or the one at Kōtokuin in Kamakura. But, surprise! There is a place in Tokyo where you can see a Daibutsu too. So, today let's head to this mysterious place that hides a Daibutsu statue, Jorenji Temple.

(Translated by Google) It is said that the owner of the steakhouse renovated part of the premises to create a gallery displaying the valuable personal belongings of the late Sugako Hashida, an honorary citizen of Atami City and a nationally renowned playwright. The owner of the ``Street Gallery of Memories of Professor Sugako Hashida'', Mr. Mizutani, was a close friend of Professor Hashida and was also an old friend of Professor Hashida, and the restaurant was also a close friend of Professor Sugako. I guess he had a strong desire that Hashida's work would serve as an opportunity for those of us who lived together during the turbulent Showa era to think about it. The gallery is well-organized, with a long desk and chair where he used to write, and a fountain pen placed on the table covered with a pink cloth to match Hashida's dominant hand. It's heartwarming to see him talk about his love of world heritage sites and his fond memories of traveling around the world on cruise ships in his later years, and I'm deeply moved by the fact that he was able to create such wonderful works using this desk and fountain pen. The gallery can be viewed at any time throughout the year, so it's recommended when visiting Atami. I want to try the steak too.

It's compact but easy to understand. Professor Sugako Hashida is an honorary citizen of Atami. He was recommended to take a trip around the world by boat for a change of pace, and when he saw world heritage sites right in front of him just by being on a boat, he became hooked. I was surprised when the natural village villa in Atami that I entrusted to the foundation was put up for sale, but I think Sugako Hashida was also relieved that the store loved Sugako Hashida and created a corner like this. Next time I will try the steak here.
