The Amasya Archeology Museum in Turkey houses a remarkable collection of artifacts from various historical periods, including the Bronze Age, Hittite, Pontic, and Roman eras. Notable exhibits include the famous Statuette of Amasya depicting the Hittite storm god Teshub and a collection of mummies dating back to the 14th-century Ilkhan period.
The Amasya Archaeological Museum is an absolute gem that offers a captivating journey through Turkey’s rich history. Nestled in the picturesque city of Amasya, this museum is not only an architectural marvel but also a treasure trove of artifacts spanning thousands of years. The exhibits are meticulously curated, showcasing an impressive collection of relics from the Hittite, Phrygian, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman periods. The displays are well-organized, with clear descriptions in multiple languages, making it accessible and educational for both local and international visitors. Among the standout pieces are the ancient coins, intricate jewelry, and beautifully preserved sarcophagi that give a glimpse into the lives of those who lived in this region long ago. One of the most remarkable highlights is the mummified remains from the Seljuk period, which are both fascinating and haunting, providing a rare look at ancient burial practices. The museum also houses a beautiful garden with archaeological remnants, creating a serene and immersive atmosphere. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to answer questions or provide additional insights about the exhibits. The museum’s layout is thoughtfully designed, making it easy to navigate without feeling overwhelmed. The entrance fee is modest, making it an affordable cultural experience for all. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, an archaeologist at heart, or simply someone looking to explore Amasya’s heritage, this museum is a must-visit. It’s a place where history comes alive and leaves you with a deeper appreciation for Turkey’s extraordinary past.

Archaeology and Mummy Museum – Fascinating and Surprising This museum was one of the highlights of my trip. You can see real mummies and many interesting archaeological items. It’s very well displayed and organized. The information is easy to read and the objects are fascinating. It’s perfect for both adults and kids. The ticket 3€ (145TL) and it’s free for children. The staff are very knowledgeable and polite. They answer all your questions with a smile. If you like history and something a bit different, this museum is a must-see!

In Amasya? Then spend an hour visiting this museum. With information boards in English and Turkish, you will learn all about the city over the years. There are some really good displays, and I especially liked the mosaics and learning about the Storm God! Free with museum cards, parking limited.

The interesting thing is the mummifi3d bodies of 13-14th century bodies in the first floor area. Unique style of museum ti visit if you are in Amasya

There are a lot of nice things to see, both archeological and anthropological, but some of the English translations are terrible or missing. They are making a new museum so hopefully they'll fix the problems. Don't miss the mum's upstairs. Unfortunately there is no way for a handicap person to access the upstairs.

Brilliant and valuable pieces of artifacts, dating back to centuries, millennia and even fossils from 115 million years in a very plain presentation. A must see place. Well done to the curators.

Hazeranlar Mansion, also known as Hazeranlar Konagi, is a beautifully restored Ottoman mansion located in the heart of Amasya. Built in 1865 by Hasan Talat Efendi for his sister Hazeran Hanim, this two-story mansion features period furnishings and serves as an ethnographic museum. It offers a fascinating insight into the lifestyle of a wealthy family during the Ottoman era.
Very nice museum that shows life in ottoman time. Near every room you can find board with explanations of use of this room according local tradition. It's like travel in time)))

Average experience. Foreigner's entry fee is €3 (210TRY) in cash despite the sign 60TRY... Very unpleasant. I would not go there anymore for so little exposition. It's just a house, nice architecture, but little things to learn inside.

Ancient Ruins
The Pontic Kings Rock Tombs in Amasya are an ancient marvel perched atop a mountain, offering breathtaking views of the city. These historical structures date back to the Pontus Kingdom period and were carved into rocks, reflecting Hellenistic architectural features. Although only a few of the 21 tombs have survived, they remain a symbolic and popular tourist attraction in Amasya. Visiting these tombs involves a rewarding adventure with stunning panoramic views of the surroundings.
Came here in September with a tour group. Only a short climb up the stairs to the entrance. There is a small entry fee, 25TL. There is not much to see of the tombs. But that the tombs are carved into the hillside is historic. Also a great view of the city from up there
Google L — Google review
We walked up to the tombs. Its a lot of money for a badly taken care of path. There are people working on buildings, but around the tombs is a lot of dirt, thrash… The view is gorgeous though!

King Rock Tombs – Impressive and Majestic The King Rock Tombs are very impressive and full of history. They are carved into the mountain and offer a fantastic view of the whole city. You have to walk a little uphill, but it’s not too hard and it’s really worth it. The tombs are big and mysterious, and you can take great pictures there. The ticket price is 100TL, and children can go in for free. The people at the entrance are very friendly and give you useful information. It’s one of the most important places to visit in Amasya. I really loved it.
Gihan R — Google review
An acient and well preserved crypts that are carved into rocks of mountain. A must see place for Amasya. You may also fancy the traditional wooden houses and a peaceful evening near greenriver (Yeşilırmak). This place is also the homeland of an old fable called "Ferhat and Şirin". The lover Ferhat singlehandedly carve through mountains to bring water to city and get Şirin's hand for marriage...
A B — Google review
We had issue with the ticket person who has been working there because university students cannot benefit from student discounts. Ticket person showed us “entering rules” of the Amasya municipality's and these rules are not allowing over 18 years old. After that, they took the normal entering fee from us.
Tulga Ö — Google review
Very attractive for those who are interested in history and mysterious sites. It is a historical tombs of pontic kings which are now available for visitors. The only way to reach them is by walking a long strairs which definitely needs to be immensely fit. The beautiful view of the city of Amasya from up will let you forget the long stairs journey.
N A — Google review
A nice monument, it's clean, very very good organised to bad that the original was destroyed by the Roman empire more than 2000 years ago. Very nice view of the city.
Εμμανουήλ Ζ — Google review
You'll see these tombs from wherever you are on Amasya. So why not pay the 15TL per person (Apr 23) and then climb the 600 or so steps to go and see them? You'll get very close and be able to see how they were carved, but you won't be able to go in or walk around the back. There are some good views from the top and the information boards are mostly in Turkish and English.

Burmali Minare Mosque, located in Amasya, is a historical and magnificent structure that dates back to 1414. The mosque features elegant marble craftsmanship in its narthex and showcases precious artifacts of Ottoman woodworking in its main door and window wings. Adjacent to a large car park, the mosque also includes an octagonal tomb from the Seljuk period. Despite undergoing renovations due to past damage, it remains a wonderful example of Burmese style architecture from the Ottoman era.
The mosque, named after its graceful spiral minaret, was first built by the Seljuks in the 13th century and has been restored several times. The Pontic tombs carved in the rock face across the river and the mountaintop castle ruins form a picturesque backdrop.

Nestled in the heart of Amasya, the Bimarhane Medresesi stands as a remarkable testament to 14th-century architecture and medical history. Constructed in 1309 by Amber Bin Abdullah for Idus Hatun, wife of Sultan Oljaytu, this pioneering institution served as one of the earliest mental hospitals.
Very interesting to view how ancient doctors heal patients. Some of the tools look atrocious and some are like torture tools used to interrogate criminals. Quite frightening to see the methods and tools used for healing headaches, pain in ear, constipation etc. Interesting musical instruments are showcased also.

(Translated by Google) I think it is the oldest mosque in Amasya. There are places like two rooms on the right and left, you can pray there too, but a sister was praying there even though she was shown the place, if you warn it, it won't happen, if you don't warn it, it won't happen. The view of the mosque is very beautiful, it is right in the center. The fact that its stairs are steep may be the reason for the small number of its congregation. The benches in the courtyard are perfect for sitting and resting. (Original) Galiba Amasya’nın en eski camisi. The Saraydüzü Barracks Building National Struggle Museum and Congress Center is a historical site located in the heart of Amasya. The museum showcases wax sculptures and tells the story of the significance of Amasya during the national struggle period.

I visited Amasra for the first time this past weekend of May 2019. Amasra occupies a very important place in the contemporary history of the modern Turkish republic. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk planned the uprising against the occupying emperyalist forces in this town. Yamaç Bistro is located on a steep hill overlooking the town. The road from center of town to the Bistro is fine, our big bus had no difficulty reaching the place. There is a big car park, so no worry where to park the car. The menu is like all other menus of similar restaurants, but what separates this place from others is the exceptional view it offers of Amasya downtown. If you happen to visit Amasra, don't forget to have a lunch or dinner at this place.

Sabuncuoğlu Şerefeddin Tıp Ve Tarih Müzesi, formerly known as Bimarhane, is a historic mental hospital dating back to the 14th century. Today, it has been transformed into a museum and cultural center where visitors can explore medieval medical practices and enjoy classical Turkish music concerts. The museum offers detailed insights into old-time medical surgeries and the use of ancient medical tools.
Worth visiting this hospital( Timarhane ) which treated physical and mental illnesses in period 1308
Awanya A — Google review
This museum is number one in my list of worst museums, unfortunately one that's in memoriam of the most important figure in the history of medicine "Sabuncuoglu Sherefeddin". The great surgeon is famous for his invaluable illustrated book on surgery, animal experiments, human experiments on poisons and antidotes he carried on himself. One of the pioneers of positive science, treatment of several physical and mental illnesses with sound, music and plants. His several surgery equipments are badly reproduced, his drawings are copied in the most childish way, Turkish text on billboards lack Turkish characters, English translation does not exist, some plants are exhibited in the front yard while most of them are dry dead, some do not exist, some are misplaced, and the building is restored with bricks sort of Ytong. Beautiful carvings on the portal are fortunately still present to prove that the building is actually genuine. Silicon figures are ugly as usual, gift shop selling gifts made in China, a so called "multimedia room" starts to speak with a loud distorted sound upon detecting motion, so constantly and repeatedly speaks "I'm Sabuncuoğlu Şerefeddin, right now I'm doing blah blah surgery on my patient" Another room with kiosks is yet another fiasco, where the screens are placed in a non aligned way. Multimedia material is the least readable I have seen. An animation that is supposed to be played on TV does not play. TV is just placed on the wall and I guess it s hard to turn it on every morning. A very brilliant representation of how a valuable historical figure can be obliterated. Very badly done.

(Translated by Google) The mihrab made of marble is very old, very beautiful, the garden and the courtyard are very big. May God bless those who built it, there is also the Hızır Pasha Tomb in the courtyard of the mosque, but unfortunately we cannot read the inscriptions there. However, it is in pure Turkish, but we have news about it, which shows the quality of the education system.

(Translated by Google) The pulpit decorations are a sight to behold. It's a beautiful little mosque. The gifts and water fountains for children inside are wonderful details that reflect the intricacies of our religion. I'd like to personally thank those who contributed to these kindnesses and beautiful details. Perhaps we too can stop by the mosque and contribute to these gifts for the children. Who knows, perhaps an angel's prayer will be enough for us.

(Translated by Google) We visited 7 or 8 mosques in central Amasya. They're generally small. Some have no ornamentation at all. They've either been painted over for renovation, which would be a shame, or they have no ornamentation at all. Others, though small, are worth visiting just for the smell of wood. This mosque is no exception. This mosque and the other 12 mosques, with their ornamentation, make them even more appealing. (Original) Amasya merkezdeki camilerin 7 8 tanesini gezdik.

On August 21st 2020 at around 12:00 me and my family members went to do some shopping and to stroll around . When we tried to leave to get some food we were stopped by mall security and they told us that we had to stay inside the mall They were so disrespectful and rude to us and demanded that we stay inside the mall because our car was in the parking lot We had already done some shopping and didn’t like the food there we wanted to leave to get food then proceed with our shopping trip . The mall security and the rules that they’ve made are ridiculous and make no sense I WILL NOT BE COMING HERE EVER AGAIN I suggest you do not go there

(Translated by Google) It is right across from the state hospital in the center of Amasya. Its construction dates back to 610. We can say that it is the oldest mosque in the world. It is said that its construction dates back to 610, when Revelation first began to come. Emperor Phokos, who was the Byzantine emperor between 602 and 610, had it built as a church in the name of his daughter Eleni while he was in Amasya. After Amasya was taken over by Danşment Turks, Fetihgazi turned it into a mosque in 1116 and changed its name to Fethiye mosque. It has been repaired several times. In 1883. It was repaired by İncezade Hacı Mehmet Arif and a stone minaret was built. Later, it fell into ruin due to earthquakes, fire and war. It was repaired by the public in 1957, and the upper part of the collapsed minaret was built and turned into its current form. There are different narrations because the structure of the mosque is very different and it was built as the first church. Allah Almighty knows best.
