The National Civil War Museum, located in Harrisburg's Reservoir Park in Allison Hill, is a Smithsonian-affiliated museum that houses over 24,000 items related to the American Civil War. The museum features manuscripts, photographs, documents, artifacts, and military equipment used during the war. With two stories of exhibits and galleries showcasing various aspects of the Civil War era including clothing, food, living conditions in trenches and more.
Great visit, very friendly staff, clean, beautiful grounds and informative exhibits that have a chronological and fulsome history. Especially enjoyed the "War of firsts" tidbits throughout. Could spend between 20 mins and 3++ hours inside depending how much you wish to read. Also had a nice nook with plenty of books to enjoy if you want to spend longer.

Great exhibits, perfect place to start learning about the acw or to introduce someone to it. Good overview that includes the Western Front as well (rare) though lacking info on overall civilian experience, there is a lot about slavery, emancipation, usct, and Black experience at the time. Beautiful view outside!
Jesse H — Google review
It's a great American story; what President Abraham Lincoln did is admirable. Unlike today's administration, which wants to feel like a hero just by talking and giving orders.
Juan C — Google review
It's a very cool place if you have the time to read each wall panel. There are no wow factor artifacts, just cool history.
Jake W — Google review
A great experience but a bit pricey at $17 for seniors. Quality artifacts and well displayed information. Very cold (bring your sweater) and narratives can make it difficult to read. Highly recommend.
B C — Google review
An impressive and very well-organized museum. The collection is extensive and covers both the Union and the Confederacy’s perspectives, making it balanced and informative. The exhibits are clearly presented, with original artifacts, documents, and audiovisual displays that bring the era to life. The staff is friendly and always willing to answer questions. A must-visit for anyone interested in history.

This was an amazing experience! My husband and I were excited to find this on our last day there in town. We learned a few things that we have not read before and we have been to a lot of museums. The displays were amazing and the items they had were incredible to see. Thank you for a wonderful time.

Excellent displays with a tremendous array of artifacts. The museum tells the story of all phases of the war.

The Pennsylvania State Capitol Complex, a historic 1906 beaux arts landmark, is a must-visit destination offering a blend of art, history, and architectural grandeur. The complex boasts a signature green dome that dominates the Harrisburg skyline and houses an array of attractions including stained glass, artwork, and treasures. Visitors can explore the Main Rotunda, Senate Chamber, House of Representatives, Governors Reception area, and Supreme Court through free guided tours.
One of my favorite capitol buildings since my first visit on Apr 2 2225, awesome marble staircase, beautiful painings, amazing statues. Gift shop could be bigger in my opinion and tour was not available.
Andrey ( — Google review
A beautifully crafted building with a huge amount of money spent on its construction, paintings, marbles, glass work, chandeliers, etc. It has three main portions, namely, Senate, House of Common, and Supreme Court. Its floor tiles are individually hand crafted. The tour guide explains everything in many details. One must book the tour in advance, although they entertain one or two odd unbooked people, but i depends upon the already booked slots. On weekdays, one can also attend the sessions in the different houses, including the Supreme Court.
Dr B — Google review
Obviously, the building was incredibly beautiful and an architectural masterpiece. In addition, the tour guide was extremely informative and was able to answer most questions that we asked, and they remained respectful and thoughtful throughout the tour, and all other workers we encountered were very helpful as well. The gift shop was quite small, but the prices were SO AFFORDABLE! I recommended visting the Capitol, 5 stars!!!

Stopped over the state Capitol this past July after taking my wife & kids to see the Chocolate World in Hershey. Figured what's a few extra miles west to see some historical architecture. We live in the Chicago area and were visiting my dad's side of the family in the Tamaqua area. I've only passed thru Harrisburg on the interstate but never visited the downtown area. Last time I was in PA was 2011 and this trip marked my wife & kids' first visit to the Keystone State. I'm rather impressed with the downtown and Capitol Park area. Kinda makes you think the Burg is a major city but indeed is actually small in land and population. We were actually on a time crunch so we didn't get to walk inside the Capitol building if we're actually even allowed to. My kids weren't all that excited to be here but my wife & I enjoyed walking around the historical complex, the fountain and the park across the street. It was a beautiful day out and a pleasant first experience in the state's capital. Not sure when we'll visit PA again but I'd definitely like stop in town again and explore more.
Deplorable R — Google review
This is probably one of the best state Capitol buildings you can visit. It is incredibly ornate. Tours are free and while not required, the tour guide may be able to get you into some areas that you wouldn't be able to get into on your own. We had an awesome guide which made it even better. Be sure to stop at the Governors office and the Senate library.
Jef H — Google review
The PA State Capitol is absolutely gorgeous! Interior and exterior feels like I'm transported straight to DC. The Capitol offers free timed tours of the 3 main chambers; PA House, Senate, and Supreme Court. Our tour guide was so impressive with how knowledgeable, personable, and he paced us well to see everything within the 30-45 minutes. The art and architecture of the main rotunda and the chambers were incredible. I honestly would have been more than happy if I paid for a tour like that, let alone a free tour open to the general public. Big props to our guide for the 1pm tour, Monday July 14th.

This is one of the best capitols in USA. Lots of money spend in the construction, beautiful fascinating stunning chandelier in the chambers. Floor tiles are awesome U feel transported in the era kings and queens seems u are in rich palace The interiors are amazing gold leaf work is done in the entire building. Tours are free if possible book in advance It shows 3 chambers Supreme court, senate, house of common Outside-is big fountain Every part of building is beautifully done Worth visiting

The John Harris-Simon Cameron Mansion, also known as the Simon Cameron House, is a historic house museum located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Built in 1766 by city founder John Harris, this National Historic Landmark offers tours and rentals and houses a Civil War historical society. The mansion has undergone several additions and restoration projects since its construction. Its photogenic Georgian architecture makes it a must-see for those interested in city architecture.
My husband and I got married here a couple of weekends ago, and it was magical. I love history and antiques, so it was the perfect setting for a small ceremony and reception. Steve, the manager, is very friendly and knowledgeable of the history of the mansion. He was also so helpful in ensuring everything went well. I tried to pick a couple of photos that best show what the mansion looks like. Hopefully I can add more pictures of the interior once we get our full gallery back. Photographer: Snowdrop Creative Co.

Great place to learn about history of Harrisburg. You might want to reserve time for guided tour. Our guide was really awesome. He seemed like knew about the place for long time. We had great time when we watched all the detail historical furniture there. It is really amazing that everything in there is been well maintained such a long period of time.
Meekyoung O — Google review
Steve our docent was spectacular. He was very informative and spoke quite fluently about the history of the house, its former residents and the surrounding area. He took us through the rooms as if going back into a time machine. As we entered into a different section of the home we entered a different period of history. Steve is an excellent guide who you will enjoy listening to. One more thing, he will tantalize your mind with a fee audio and visual treats.
Tai V — Google review
Very cute house. There is a parking lot but it is hard to find. It is on a one way street coming from main street and it is at the back of the house. The guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. Would recommend for anyone interested in Harrisburg history.

Museum open for tours, with each room beautifully furnished in period furniture and displays. The art deco bathroom is spectacular.

Event was a re-enactment of the first public reading of the Declaration Of Independence. Train, plane and automobile traffic occasionally drowned out the speaking, but the event was well informed, well executed and well oriented. The tour of the mansion was also well done. A good way to begin our holiday activities.

The John Harris-Simon Cameron Mansion is an incredible and important historical landmark full of the fascinating and rich early histories of Harrisburg as well as the greater Susquehanna River Valley. It is without question, a hidden gem. My wife and I were the only two on our guided tour, which was quite personalized, beyond excellent, and deeply informative. The structure and its many historical artifacts and pieces have been immaculately preserved, curated, and displayed. The John Harris-Simon Cameron Mansion is an exquisite place to explore even if history is not your forte. Nothing less than a remarkable commitment to stewardship could have preserved and presented this site so well. The Dauphin County Historical Society with its many interesting maps is also worth a visit.

Amazing museum with very friendly staff. My husband and I made a last minute decision to do the 3 pm tour and it was very personable since it was just us and our tour guide. The mansion is beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, also managed to buy a few things from the gift shop. We will definitely be visiting again!!!

The State Museum of Pennsylvania, located in Harrisburg, is a sprawling museum adjacent to the State Capitol building. It offers a comprehensive look at the history of Pennsylvania from prehistoric times to the present day. The museum features exhibits on Native Americans, astronomy, the Civil War, industry, and wildlife. One of its notable permanent exhibits is a large painting depicting The Battle of Gettysburg: Pickett's Charge.
Took the kids (5 and 8)here to explore and observe. They seemed entertained and we easily spent most of the day here. They really enjoyed the hands-on sections throughout the Museum.

so fun and you’ll definitely spend 2+ hours here! there is so much to see and also hands-on activities for kids, as well as plenty of souvenirs from the shop in the main lobby. it was super interesting and i’ll definitely be recommending!
Sailin A — Google review
Excellent history museum that has something for everyone in the family. The rich history, cultural and natural wonders of the state are on display here. One of my favorite galleries was the wildlife gallery with the natural dioramas of some of the iconic PA wildlife.
JD — Google review
Great museum, especially for only $7. This was my second time visiting. We started with a 4th grade and above planetarium show which was awesome, about twenty minutes, and only $4. The top floor has the planetarium, some of the coolest natural history exhibits I’ve ever seen, the biggest mastodon Skelton from PA, and a walk through exhibit of the Allegheny forest millions of years ago, complete with huge bugs and scaly trees. Very cool. The gift shop has mostly reasonable prices and many cool PA souvenirs, including some pretty, locally made wooden earrings (which I picked up for myself and some family members).
H D — Google review
Absolutely fantastic museum. I loved the civil rights area videos showing how the community felt about the family moving in etc. The things they had to overcome sadly back then. The interstate history with all the cars and how the turnpike came to be was my favorite. The animal display was also nice. Very clean and very good experience. I was impressed more than I expected to be. Very nice museum. Multiple floors and very friendly staff as well! Also the prices for tickets are very cheap which makes it even better. Including 3 hour parking, we spent only about $30 for 2 adults.
Andrew B — Google review
Admission is $7, and the museum spans four floors of diverse history. From Native American exhibits to classic vehicles, and from animals to wildlife displays, there’s something here to capture everyone’s interest
Amanda C — Google review
Following a visit to the state capitol building, I went there. The entrance fee is $7. It offers a very nice and comprehensive history of Pennsylvania. The museum highlights individuals who made significant contributions to the state and the nation. However, I was unfortunately unable to reach the third floor due to exhaustion. Despite the wealth of information, I plan to return in the future.
Salaadino — Google review
It is a very large museum with 4 floors with many artifacts about the state of Pennsylvania. We spent 3 hours there and barely scratched the surface. Many historical facts with lots of detail about the importance of Pennsylvania to the forming and supporting the union. The natural historical part had some nice samples of animals that roamed Pennsylvania. The industrial had a lengthy list of contributions that the state made to propel the nation to its current status. Overall, it is worth a visit. A very good place for a family to spend an afternoon exploring the past of this great state.

The Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts is a science-themed center that features exhibitions, kids' shows, IMAX films, and a performance center. The theater is well-maintained with professional sets and talented dancers performing first-class productions like 'The Nutcracker.' Despite being located in a slightly sketchy neighborhood, the venue is well-staffed with clean bathrooms. It provides an alternative to traveling to Philadelphia's Academy of Music for Christmas ballet performances.
Such a fun, neat place for kids to learn about how things work. Came for a field trip with my son's class and everyone seemed to have a blast! The place was clean and organized. Staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommend checking it out if you have kids. Or just want to learn.

Saw Murder on the Orient Express last night. Fabulous show and actors! It's a much smaller venue than I had envisioned, very intimate and easy to find our seats. The sound was great, the actors' accents were very good. I'll keep an eye on further events because I would love to come back next time we're in Harrisburg.
Joanne J — Google review
So much fun!! I remember going here as a kid so It was fun to take my two kids and neice. We all had a fantastic time just as I had remembered ☺️
Kyla B — Google review
This a fun little cultural center/semi-museum that adds liveliness to Downtown Harrisburg. The science center exhibits excel at exemplifying concepts in a way palatable to young minds. The gift shop is neat too, holding the typical assortment of museum souvenirs such as rock candies, plastic claw grabber things, and those lollipops with arachnids embedded into them.
Martin G — Google review
From the first time we visited the Whitaker center, my daughter asked when we can return. She absolutely loves it! From the kid friendly upstairs to the downstairs which is great for the entire family, she cannot get enough time there. We are definitely going to look into their family pass!
Casey M — Google review
Neither of my kids enjoyed the experience. I'm pretty upset about it. It seemed more like a daycare than a museum. I couldn't wait to take my little ones because it used to be so cool, or maybe I was just young because I know nothing at all is different. Anyway, we will never return. $60 entry for 4, plus $12 if you use the garage for a pointless experience. My little one's handled the boredom well.
Natasha — Google review
The grandkids had a great time. 4 stars because some of the computer systems did not work or froze when you tried to use them. The folio exhibit went into the spinning wheel of death when we tried to record sound effects. The race cars were handled so much we had a hard time finding pieces that would stay together. Other than that, it is very educational. The 3D TRex movie was great.
Tpokeeffe — Google review
Great place to see a show. Warm ambiance, comfy seats, and intimately small so you feel close to the action. All seats have a good view. The staff is very helpful and eager to locate your seats and help you feel comfortable. We particularly enjoy the view from the mezzanine. Easy to get to from I-81 and I-83 and a parking garage conveniently located on premises.

The Pennsylvania National Fire Museum, located in the Olde Uptown part of Harrisburg, is a captivating destination dedicated to preserving the state's firefighting heritage. Housed in a charming 1899 Victorian firehouse, the museum showcases a diverse collection of artifacts and equipment that offer insight into the history of firefighting. Visitors can explore vintage fire engines, hand-drawn firefighting equipment, old alarm systems, and learn about the role of volunteer firefighters through engaging exhibits.
It is all volunteers that give you tours and tell you the history. There are many interactive parts to it and it's very educational.
Oran C — Google review
Very historic place. When we first walked in we were greeted by a very knowledgeable volunteer staff member. They went over a ton of history of the fire department and would answer any questions that we had. They had a nice size gift shop in the back with lots of things to choose from at very reasonable prices. If highly recommend checking out this very cool spot of history and support them in keeping it alive!

If you are involved in the fire service and anywhere near Harrisburg...do yourself the honor of visiting the Pennsylvania Fire Museum! You will not be sorry! The alarm room is amazing all by itself! The staff, all volunteer, do an excellent job of making you welcome and educating on the history of the museum. Very cool and very well done...right down to the horse poop on floor!!!

Nice spot to check out in Harrisburg. The staff was very friendly and gave us a great history lesson. Lots of neat things to see. Will be back again.
Andrey K — Google review
The Pennsylvania National Fire Museum is a very important testament to time and of history of not only the local Harrisburg PA fire department but the fire department in general as a whole from its humble beginnings and where it started to what it has become over the years all the way up to today. I recently visited with my wife and kids, and we had a great time exploring all there is to look at. Whether you want to explore for yourself or have someone show you around they will accommodate you. When we went it was on a Saturday, so I figured there would be more people there but there was not. The museum does apparently run at least partly on the admission fees and or donations from the public so your visit would not only be interesting and fun for you for whoever you go with but go toward a good cause as well. The museum is also very well laid out, the pictures speak for themselves. It is also filled with many fire-department artifacts, and they even let the kids and I ring the bell in the bell tower before we left.
Michael M — Google review
I took my husband to this museum because he's a firefighter and loves everything about the history. We were greeted by a nice gentleman and we talked for a while. It was a self guided tour but the guy was knowledgeable and answered any of our questions we had. There was a couple hands on exhibits and the place was amazing! I would highly recommend this museum for history and fireman buffs alike. I can't express enough of how good of experience we had with this museum. Also it has an elevator and its wheel chair accessible.
Heather K — Google review
The museum itself is in an over 100 year old firehouse. They have artifacts from the man pulled days all the way up to modern day. Upstairs is a very well done room showing how the old alarm system worked. They have several fire trucks on display in the back room. The staff is very informative and helpful. Also has a nice gift shop to end your trip through the museum. A must visit if you're in the area!
Joseph B — Google review
We went on Saturday morning, they had a boy scout group and some extra people but the volunteers still made sure felt welcomed especially barry. He explained everything well gave us some extra information. The exhibits was greatly created informative and had some fun local history but firehouse, firefighters, and tools used by them in general. It was even more crazy with them getting ready for the st. Patty parade and taking one their trucks out to parade. So it was def a cool sight. Again barry popped up gave us more information about trucks and answered questions we had. We paid twenty bucks was a Great value for the museum. Def amazing place for the value. The place was clean, informative and great for all families.

The Pride of the Susquehanna Riverboat, constructed in 1988, is a rare find as one of only six riverboats in the United States with an authentic paddlewheel. This replica of late 1800s riverboats offers public and private cruises during warmer months, including special event cruises like Jazzin on the Pride and Murder Mystery Dinner Cruises.
You can never go wrong with a boat ride especially when it’s a Riverboat. The inside of the river is amazing and beautiful. There is the bottom level and the top deck you can look out from. They do sell drinks during the tour as well. The staff are amazing and the boat is very clean. Parking may be an issue if there is a baseball game at the time of your tour.
Charlie R — Google review
It was nice. This is my second ride on the cruise. The first was for an All White Party (clothing) an ex coworker of mine threw a few years back. The second was the Juneteenth 2023 cruise. The guest speakers and the live entertainment was delightful. My only disappointment was the refreshments and the worker that was tending to the spread. I watched her touch every single cookie and cake that she placed on the table with her bare hands. No gloves and no sanitizer in sight. That was disgusting and unprofessional to say the least.
Shani S — Google review
Awesome Boat ride and lots of information about the great Susquehanna River. A must do if in the area. We booked our tickets in advance but can get them at the location too. There are drinks and snacks available on board. Parking is tricky keep on driving the loopty loop till you see parking for boat ride and don't park far away. Overall great experience and will be back.

Very relaxing fun experience. Captain and crew were welcoming and friendly. Music venue was relaxing and fun. We went on the sightseeing tour with music provided. Make sure you don't go on a game night! Parking for the dock shares a roadway with the stadium.

We drove from Strasburg, VA to experience this and I am so glad we did. It was very relaxing and my son and I enjoyed the view very much! I wish it was longer but honestly it was perfect! I will be recommending this to all of my friends and I would also love to come back with my boyfriend! 10/10.
Pamella M — Google review
Dinner cruise was great. Murder mystery and a meal. Staff was fantastic. The show was entertaining and energetic. The food.. Average. Go for the show and make sure you send time on the top deck. The night is beautiful in the river.
Brad W — Google review
Not very exciting, travels up river for 30 minutes and 15 minutes back. They do have an interesting talk that plays during part of the ride. The flags on the side of the boat are distracting from the view and the interior is dated. Luckily it was a nice day and we could enjoy the weather from the bow and the top deck by the stern.
Allen W — Google review
A glorious ride on a tiny riverboat. Dinner was okay, but my whole meal was ice cold, along with my best friends meal. Our husbands meals were hot. Not the river boats fault but the fall foliage didn't exist. That was kinda funny, all in all it was okay.

Had a great time at the game. All of the staff I encountered were friendly and professional. Plenty of food options to choose from.

I’ve been attending games on City Island since I was a kid in the 1980s and 1990s. So many fond memories. I still come to games each summer, at least a couple each year, and always have a blast. Harrisburg is lucky to have the Senators and such a great location for a minor league ballpark on City Island. There’s been a number of restorations and renovations done to the ballpark over the years, but it has only gotten better and improved the experience each time. Come out for a game, some peanuts and beer, and of course the mayflies (IYKYK). 👍🏼 I also have taken my son out to “Scout Nights” at the ballpark when he was younger. We always had a blast. The novelty of getting to be out in the field was something the young kids always got a kick out of.

Received a voucher for basic seats for a Senators game from Central PA Blood Bank for donating blood. I was able to upgrade to regular box seats for only $8. I haven't seen a game in some time, so was looking forward to it. Unfortunately I didn't realize that $1 hot dog night was such a draw and just really made the concession stands just a wait in line nightmare. The Senators weren't having a goodnight either so we were thankful when a random rainbow brightened the event. I'll give it another try on a less busy night. We had great seats at least.

Wonderful baseball park in Harrisburg! The fans were very engaged and the fireworks show at the end was amazing! Lots of food and drink options. The poutine was amazing! There's a bar on the lower level behind first base.

Went here for my first Senators game, got the mayor's suite, almost caught a ball and almost got bopped in the head with a foul ball a couple times LOL but it was great!! Fireworks after were lovely!!

Great place to watch a game the staff at every spot was friendly and helpful. Wish more of the kids area and other attractions were open, but overall a great experience.

Solid stadium for AA. The amenities are decent but could be improved. The signage is not great and you might end up in some utilities corner if you're not careful. It's in a really cool location that they don't quite take advantage of. View of the field is great. Fans are good.

Housed in a former bank, Susquehanna Art Museum is a unique and inviting space in the heart of the midtown neighborhood. As Pennsylvania's first non-sectarian art museum, it offers educational programs and rotating exhibitions throughout the year. The museum's exhibits include a diverse range of art, from regional to international artists. In addition to showcasing original exhibitions, performances, and classes, it also provides opportunities for volunteer work and art education for both adults and youth.
I attended the Seventh Annual A Taste of Jazz fundraiser this Sunday evening, sponsored by St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Harrisburg. It is a wonderful evening for jazz and to view the current exhibit, Tribute to the Civil Rights Movement: Quilted Swing Coats, by Patricia A. Montgomery. How cool is it that the DeSoto Family Vault displays two quilted swing coats in the steel bank vault? This wonderful gathering of familiar faces, Jazz ensembles, light bites, cocktails, and a silent auction will help raise funds for programs that serve the Harrisburg community, especially the Beacon Health Clinic, which provides free healthcare for uninsured adults.

A small two story museum that has carefully curated collections. The "Making Your Mark" exhibition is a great educational experience that put together different techniques used in modern painting practices. Very informative and easy to understand for general public. The hands-on area provides simple tools and essential materials so that visitors could put their thoughts into a quick scratch. There was a workshop session going on but didn't have a chance to signup for a short stay in town.

Very small but entertaining museum. The entrance fees are very low, especially when you're a student. The majority of the artworks displayed are part of the temporary exhibit, which was interesting when I went there in March 2017. There are also some workshops for children in order to promote culture, which is a very nice initiative. No restaurant or cafeteria if I remember correctly.

What an amazing place! We are here for the 1st time on a school trip. The morning presentations were divided into to parts for the elementary children (k-2/3-5)& was at a level that was easily understood by them without treating them as if they were unintelligent. My son (7) thoroughly enjoyed the creative actitivty & said he even liked learning about the artist & seeing the other paintings. My daughter (11) attended the afternoon (6-12) presentation & said that it wasn't as boring as she thought it would be. The also did a creative actitivty which she loved and said the presentation on the pictures was very interesting & informative. With the muesum changing exhibits every 12 week there are multiple times each year you could visit & do new things. We enjoyed this trip a lot & plan to become members to enjoy it even more. Some of the perks are AWESOME.

The Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center is a massive 26-acre indoor venue that hosts the largest agricultural exposition in the state. The highlight is the Pennsylvania Farm Show in January, celebrating the region's farming heritage. Throughout the year, it welcomes various events like trade shows, sporting competitions, and expos such as Monster Truck Thunder and Harrisburg Gun show. Visitors can explore history exhibits and enjoy events like Horse World Expo.
Today, I attended the 2025 PA Home + Garden Show. If you just purchased a home, are looking to upgrade or transform your home, or maybe add some curbside appeal, you need to visit this show. It is a one-stop shop for remodeling or upgrading your home. As a garden enthusiast and houseplant parent, I was disappointed with the many home remodeling options, but there were not enough gardens. I’m thankful to see the presence of local businesses like Ashcombe Fern Mobile Plant Shop, the Palmyra Mobile Greenhouse, and, new to me, Seymour’s Apothecary & Plant Boutique. Definitely, a fun day one stop shop learning about business in Central PA

Always a good time, free admission, and $15 parking. Got to meet a legendary chef and watch a demonstration. I also got my free recipe book signed. There are so many vendors for almost everything, and this complex is enormous. There are so many food choices. Also, animals are everywhere. It is so much fun. I highly recommend going every year!

Stopped by the Farmers Market on a Tuesday morning! There was so much to choose from — fresh produce, baked goods, handmade items, and more. It had a nice steady flow of people, but it wasn’t too crowded, which made browsing and chatting with vendors really pleasant. 😊 Great way to support local and stock up on some delicious, fresh finds. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!

One of THE premier golf courses in the area! Front nine is links stylish, back is more woods lined. Some GREAT, challenging layout holes with moderate to quick greens. Lots of undulation and uneven lies in the fairway. This course is NOT for beginners! Pace of play can drag due to people searching for their balls. 5 hour round not unheard of here, but if want a challenge for your golf game, this is it. Is a restaurant on site, but can't speak to food or price. Will definately golf here again, couple times every year. Only drawback is that do have a significant lantern fly population. I got hit several times during our round. Just annoying.

Fun day with my sister. Highly recommend going early because the place is huge & lots to see!! We parked in HACC lot and got shuttled right to the door. Very convenient instead of driving all around looking for a spot. Parking was $15. Free shuttle and entrace to farm show. Went on a Saturday. It was very busy! But, everyone there was friendly & seemed in a good mood. The food lines were very long, but moved quickly. Highly recommend the cider donuts & cheese cubes!!! Yum! Milkshakes are overrated. They taste just like McDonald's, nothing special. The pierogies & potato pancakes were also very good. We were a little disappointed that they ran out of sour cream, but it was the last day. The owners of the animals were very knowledgeable and answered all of your questions. You can get up close and touch all the animals. Over all ~ fun day! Next time, I think I'd like to see the rodeo.

Appalachian Brewing Company is a historic brewery located in downtown Harrisburg, offering housemade beers and craft sodas alongside casual bites like burgers. Established in 1997, it's the first and only brewery to open in the capital since prohibition times. The brewery provides tours and tastings at its atmospheric brewpub, with the original location offering free tours every Saturday afternoon that include complimentary beer and soda samples.
Great bar and food. Lots of space and interesting people. Wide selection of locally brewed beer. There is a large parking lot.

Absolutely loved this place. Michael provided a warm welcome and great guidance on the beers available. Had 2 local IPAs. One of the best chicken sandwiches I have ever eaten. The type of place you would love to live close to. Lots of regulars at the bar. Was a very happy Irishman leaving.

Great lunch experience here. Bartender was super helpful and friendly. Chicken Caesar salad was great. Beers were solid - the Sigma Oasis was my favorite. First brewery ever to give me a tiny ginger beer glass to “cleanse the palate” between beers. I dig the design of the taster glasses too. Only negative is that it seemed a little sketchy walking here from downtown in mid-afternoon. Wouldn’t do it alone at night, even as a relatively large adult male.

Great place for lunch or a quick beer when in the PA capital city. Spacious interior, pleasant atmosphere and tasty, reasonably priced food make this a great spot to take friends and family. Not as many beer offerings as many of the other local breweries and most of those are IPAs but what they do offer are fresh and delicious. Definitely would return.

Great service, fabulous food and friendly staff. I strongly recommend the Mile High Meatloaf, Pierogies and the Elephant Ear Dessert. My only dislike is the diet soda, the taste of stevia is a bit strong.

Awesome spot. They have great selection of locally brewed beer and I think they also have a distillery there so you can order cocktails with their rum, vodka, bourbon, etc. I’ve ordered sour beer, and my wife had Scottish ale. Both were good. We also had The Original Harrisburger and Rockfish Tacos. Pretty tasty although I would’ve included some additional ingredients in the tacos. We also had maple bacon cheesecake for dessert. I know it sounds like a weird combination but it was yummy! Staff was very nice and welcoming.

My first time visiting a cathedral, and I was truly in awe. The doors are open to both visitors and those coming to worship. A kind church member welcomed me inside and shared a little about the cathedral’s history and its pastor. For $5, you can also request a prayer. The building itself was beautiful and fascinating to see—I’d definitely recommend stopping in!

Simply majestic cathedral. You feel a lot of peace and harmony. I went in and stayed for a few minutes sharing with my daughter stories of the Catholic Church, of the bishops, of how to become a Pope. It was a moment of great fluidity and blessing. I was surprised by their architecture and that they had their doors open although there was no mass at that time. God bless all the parishioners who attend here and all the priests and bishops who officiate the Mass.🙏🏻🇺🇸⛪️✝️

A beautiful sacred space, blocks from the Capital. I’ve been to two daily Masses here, and have very much felt at home. The windows are beautiful. The space is also very handicap accessible. A ramp on the left side (looking at the Cathedral from outside) goes into the church. Ample space and a ramp to the restrooms as well.

Medium to big size cathedral in downtown Harrisburg, two blocks away from the capitol. Besides the marvelous interior design in the church, what surprised me is the current conditions of the whole building: it is like a brand new church. When we visited, it was during a Friday morning. No mass at that point, but the church is kept open for visits.
Arthur A — Google review
The architecture is really beautiful and the structure, painting and art is very detailed and captivating! Really nice church to go for a mass or even silent prayers. The Priest (in the picture) was really wonderful and he made us feel very welcome!

1st time there, roads are a little confusing in that area, across from the Capitol building. Found a place to park about a block away but enjoyed the pretty walk and pleasant views of architecture of this historical auditorium. Restrooms were handy on the way to comfortable seats and the stage was about level where I sat with an amazing view of the acoustic show of LIVE. The hand painted murals of an amazing galaxy with Zodiac planets, constellations, universes, entertaining inbetween songs lol. Didn't notice any food or drinks. I would definitely recommend this venue if you have patience in parking. They do have maybe 10 handicapped spots near the entrance too. Nice place

HMAC is an amazing venue in Midtown Harrisburg. Top tier staff with a great attitude! 3 levels of entertainment. I will absolutely return for a concert again!

Would not recommend this venue for concerts. It is managed poorly. Times posted online do not reflect when concerts begin. The post for last night said doors open at 6:30pm, show starts at 6:30pm. We figured, get there early because the times don’t seem right. Then, we waited over an hour for the opening bands to begin. The sound people for the venue aren’t good. The first two bands sounded terrible. You couldn’t hear their vocals. It seems like there were more people in the standing room than could reasonably fit. Not enough A/C for a crowd that size. HOT! People were sick and leaving. Next time we will spend a little more money, travel a little further, and go to a nicer venue.

HMAC is the best place to catch an awesome show! They have great food! And a wide variety of drinks to choose from. They also have a secret side room with a smaller venue just past the downstairs bar in the corner by the game tables. I was just here this past Saturday to catch my Homies. I had the Chicken Strips and Fries which came with a spicy BBQ dip, it was fantastic! And they were REALLY quick! The service and efficiency of the venue is excellent! The staff are courteous and knowledgeable. Just an all out great place, especially when catching your favorite show! 🤘🏼💯

This a very interesting place. It is beyond description but that is a great thing. It reminds me of a few old places I visited across the south to include New Orleans, La. The Capital Area Greenbelt offers a picturesque 20-mile loop around the city of Harrisburg, providing an excellent opportunity for walking, running, jogging, or cycling. The multi-purpose path takes you through pristine nature spots and parks while also passing by important landmarks, monuments, and museums. While some parts may have busy road crossings and hills in the Wildwood portion, it is considered bike-friendly and provides connections to various parts of the city.
Such a nice loop trail around my home town. I’ve done it many times on bike and recumbent trike. Google Maps has it incorrectly drawn in places, such as the section just south of I-81 where it is off by a block. The trail has huge potential, if the city would spend the money to fix the surface and promote it. The whole area (including the NWLRT) and others nearby could be a biking Mecca. The mighty and ancient Susquehanna River is an amazing but under-appreciated resource.

The knowledgeable staff provide valuable insights into railroad history, making it an educational and fascinating visit for all ages.
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! The volunteers here are amazing and incredibly knowledgeable. They have the simulation set up to run the tower operations exactly how it was in 1943. They let you line routes on the Model 14 board. It was well worth the drive.

This place was amazing. It was my last stop on the 2022 candlelight tour. I could have spent hours here learning about this place in particular and the rail history in Harrisburg in particular. I never knew how interesting railroad history was, I was never drawn to it. But going here and learning about it from the docents was mind blowing. Go when you have a chance and talk to the people that are there to learn about it.

It's an awesome small museum. Our group had a private event and were welcomed with open arms and given a full tour and history. We ran their tower program that let us move trains in real time across the many tracks the tower once controlled. It was awesome and I thank everyone involved. Recommend a visit anytime.
Christian B — Google review
I lived in Harrisburg most of my life and didn’t realize this existed until recently. My children love trains and all things train related. We ended up spending almost two hours there. The staff let them set switches on the old equipment. The best part by far was the front row seat for watching trains go by. One of the staff members kindly opened a window at their level so they could get an even better look. They loved it and have been begging to go back. I don’t know if a non-rail fan would spend so much time there but it is definitely worth a visit. Free parking right next to it… it is usually for permitted state workers but is open and available to visitors on the weekends when the tower is open. I would check when it is open. I believe it is seasonal only.

A post covid experience and a real treat to see a fabulous movie: Elvis! It is a small theatre, clean and with friendly staff. There is a Cafe and she made a great cappuccino! Expect to be asked for proof of vaccination. Safety first!

More than movies… good atmosphere, drinks, food & cute outdoor patio! Love the LIVE music events… such a gem in the Burg!

The theater staff were extremely courteous and went above and beyond to make our experience as nice as possible. They refunded our tickets when the projector had issues and apologized to us, which was extremely sweet. We ended up seeing another movie with vouchers that we received from the staff and had a very good time. 10/10

Such an amazing adorable little theatre. They feature 3 auditoriums, a bar, concessions and the bestest cleanest all gender restrooms ive ever seen. (Stalls that extend to the ceiling and floor THANK YOU) they have all their preview posters up on the hallway to the auditorium with cute little chalk written notes and names next to everything. Absolutely had a lovely time there last night. Will be sure to visit again!

Nice movie theater that shows art house flicks. We had no trouble parking. The seats were very comfortable and the popcorn was delicious.

Why did it take so long to find this gem? I love this theater! Quaint, quirky, cozy, and intimate...with a touch of avant garde. Movie selections range from independent to foreign to classics to campy...all my favorites! A great selection of snacks...coffee, candy, popcorn, ice cream, or even a growler from the brewery next door. I know, right?! The staff was friendly, welcoming, and informative. Lots of perks for regulars! I think it's time for you to see a movie...here!

The Dauphin County Courthouse, located near the Statue of Liberty, is a historic structure dating back to 1792. Its white marble exterior and modern classic style set it apart from the prevalent Romanesque and Renaissance-Revival architecture in Harrisburg. While tours inside may not be available, the courthouse is renowned for its efficient operations and helpful staff.

On August 26, 2024 this Court granted emergency dependency of Marcie Gail Smiths children who she abandoned on 10/12/2023. However, when the cys employees who are named on a criminal complaint found out that the information was being leaked, they interfered with the official proceeding. They had me removed as plaintiff and I was not there to testify on the children’s behalf. I am an experienced foster mother from dauphin county who cared for the Smith children for five days after they were neglected and abandoned in awful condition. The children were released to me by the Harrisburg police department and cys is covering up the crimes to protect their reputation and careers. Marisa McClellan should be prosecuted along with Lisa Wheeler, Scott Smith, Noelle Barrett, and K Deibler.

I had to go to the Prothonotary's office today with an appeal. The woman who helped me was sent down from God. She helped me through all the paperwork and sorted the papers in order, I had no idea my papers were out of order, and was super calm and accommodating. I am grateful for her help. Nice calm atmosphere. Thank you if your reading this.

Police and Correctional officers treat people good here, and Judge Cherry is a blessing to the United States justice system, definitely learned from my mistakes.
James D — Google review
I was standing in line to enter the courthouse once. The man standing in front on me had a tattoo on his leg that read "Only God Can Judge Me" 🤣 I didn't have he heart to tell him.
Christian W — Google review
I visited the office of the Prothonotary seeking guidance regarding the process of changing my child's last name. As a newcomer to the area, I believed that the courthouse would be a suitable starting point. To summarize, I was unaware that I had entered the incorrect county courthouse. No one explicitly informed me that in order to file a petition for a name change, it is imperative to ensure that the filing takes place in the county of residence. My petition included my address, and it would have been helpful if someone had informed me about the incorrect county. Despite collecting a fee of $200, my petition was denied due to the filing being in the wrong county. It is worth noting that this courthouse is merely a 15-minute drive from my home, and I genuinely had no idea that I was in the wrong county when submitting my petition. It would be greatly appreciated if they could transfer my case to the appropriate county. It is disheartening to witness the lack of assistance provided by the staff. They merely accept payment and documentation without truly addressing the concerns and questions of the people seeking help. I also wanted to bring to your attention an another issue I encountered while requesting a refund at your office. I approached the woman behind the desk and inquired about the process for requesting a refund. Specifically, I asked if there were any forms that I needed to print out. She explicitly informed me that I only needed to handwrite a letter in black and white, explaining the reason for my refund request and the purpose of filing a petition. However, upon visiting my county office and explaining the situation, they provided me with a form to fill out for the refund petition. To my disappointment, my request was denied by Dalphin County, as they mentioned that I had used Cumberland County's form. Note that my petition with Cumberland Valley was forms from Dalphin County, and they gave me no problem. It is important to note that the forms provided were fill-in-the-blank, which greatly facilitated the process and ensured a professional presentation of my refund petition. Subsequently, I received a letter instructing me to visit the Dolphin County website and print out the necessary forms, contrary to what the lady in your office had informed me. I am reaching out to you in the hopes of resolving this misunderstanding and obtaining the correct forms for my refund request. I greatly appreciate your prompt attention to this matter, as it has caused me significant inconvenience. They can kindly let visitors know the appropriate steps to rectify this situation and obtain the correct forms as soon as possible.

The church is known for its warm and welcoming congregation that fosters a sense of family among its members. The beautiful sanctuary provides a serene atmosphere where worshippers can feel the presence of God during traditional services led by an inspiring pastor.
Love worshipping here. Congregation is second family. Sanctuary is beautiful and you can feel the presence of God. Soloist has wonderful voice and the organist knows how to make the most of the old organ. Have an interesting Bible study before worship. Pastor really knows how to make you think about the scripture, doing Genesis now

The Obelisk: Dauphin County Veteran's Memorial is a significant monument located in Uptown Harrisburg. Originally built in the 1860s to honor local soldiers who lost their lives during the American Civil War, it was later relocated and renovated in the 1960s. This historical site offers an opportunity to capture memories through photography and learn about the city's past.
This actually is a cool structure. I wouldn't call it a destination unless you are really into architecture. It sits on the ground of William Penn HS which is also a beautiful piece of Harrisburg history, and across from Italian Lake.

Catholic church
St. Lawrence Catholic Church (FSSP) in the Harrisburg Diocese is a remarkable quasi-parish that offers a reverent Mass and features exceptional priests. The congregation consists of devoted followers of Christ, committed to their faith. This welcoming community provides numerous opportunities for young families to engage with one another, fostering a sense of unity and belonging. Additionally, this church boasts an exquisite aesthetic appeal. Notably, the Latin Mass celebrated here represents a refreshing revival of an ancient Catholic tradition.
An incredibly gorgeous church with a lively lively community! Lots of large families, children everywhere and activities year round. The priests are very reverent and involved. You have daily confession and Mass, and 4 Sunday Mass options! Perfect place to visit and join
Ivona M — Google review
Very beautiful Church and community! Lots of opportunities for connecting with fellow parishioners and worshipping God!! The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered before every Mass which is a very important and beautiful decision. Mass is celebrated every day of the week which is very beautiful.
Jack T — Google review
Liturgy here is beautiful, sacred, solemn, and majestic, everything that you do not find in the new Mass. You can really lift your mind and heart to God and participate in the Mass here in a way that is impossible in the new Mass. This parish does it better than any other Latin Masses I've been to, as well, probably because it's a rich parish that can afford a full-time music director. Make sure you attend high Masses and solemn sung Masses with the choir or an orchestra for the fullest experience.
Jules — Google review

This is a wonderful quasi-parish in the Harrisburg Diocese. If you are looking for a reverent Mass then this your place. The priests are phenomenal. Within a week of meeting my family, each priest knew our names. The families that belong are dedicated and faithful followers of Christ. There are always opportunities for young families to interact with one another and have that community feel that we were looking for. Finally, the church is beautiful.
