Fortress
Historical place museum
Fort Rotterdam Makassar is a 17th-century Dutch fort located in Sulawesi, Indonesia. It was built on top of an existing fort constructed by the Gowa Kingdom to counter Dutch encroachments. The Dutch completely rebuilt it between 1673 and 1679 with six bastions surrounded by a seven-meter-high rampart and a two-meter-deep moat. Shaped after a sea turtle, this historical landmark now houses exhibits that showcase Indonesian history.
Fort Rotterdam in Makassar is a fascinating historical site with rich cultural significance, offering visitors a look into Indonesia's colonial past. The fort houses a variety of exhibits that showcase the region's history, including artifacts from the Dutch era. However, the cleanliness of the collection and the surrounding areas could be improved to enhance the overall experience. Additionally, having a tour guide available would greatly enrich the visit, providing deeper insights and context to the historical displays. With better maintenance and guided tours, Fort Rotterdam could become an even more engaging and informative destination for history enthusiasts.
Yustika M — Google review
My First Time at Fort Rotterdam My first visit to Fort Rotterdam was really cool. As soon as I got there, I was impressed by how unique the place looked. The old Dutch-style buildings with their red roofs and thick walls really gave off a historical vibe. It felt like stepping back in time. I walked around the fort, checked out the buildings, and just enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. The palm trees and the green grass made the place feel calm and relaxing. It was interesting to imagine what life was like here in the past. Overall, I had a great time. Fort Rotterdam is a nice spot to chill, take photos, and learn a bit of history. I’d definitely recommend it if you're ever in Makassar!
Muhamad F — Google review
(05/2025) A small, well-kept fort with very friendly staff. Entry to the fort is free; the museum costs 10,000. We happened to visit during a cultural event and met lots of lovely people (shout-out to the best security team — Flobamora Bodyguard!).
World Z — Google review
Fort Rotterdam is one of Makassar’s most iconic historical landmarks—a well-preserved 17th-century Dutch fort that also bears the legacy of the once-mighty Gowa Sultanate. Rich in cultural significance, the site offers a fascinating glimpse into colonial-era architecture, Indonesian resistance history, and the unique blend of Dutch and Makassar heritage.
Edbert J — Google review
If you are visiting Makassar, the “Gateway to East Indonesia”, you need to appreciate the cities history. Come visit this old Dutch fort, admire its architecture, take in the significance of its place in Dutch Colonial history. The fort itself is well preserved and the grounds are beautiful. A must visit!
Billy B — Google review
Fort Rotterdam is a 17th century fort in Makassar, it is a Dutch fort that was built on top of an existing fort of the Gowa Kingdom The ticket is free and there's a local guide here and I was offered for 150.000 IDR (I didn't take it) There's a museum inside the fort, the fee is cheap only 5.000 IDR for adult, you can see and learn the journey of Gowa Kingdom and its collection You also can explore the other side of the fort
Aditya P — Google review
Nice historical place to see and imagine how it looks like in it's glorious past. Unfortunately that's it, you have to leave everything to imagination because the place is run down and lacking in maintenance. You may walk around the compound free but you buy a ticket 10kRP for entry to their 'museum' which is sadly non-AC and sad looking. There are 3rd party guides available for hire at the entrance and that might help understand more about it's history. I paid for the museum because I'm hoping they'll use the funds for the much needed upkeep.
Benjamin L — Google review
This place is undoubtedly beautiful, it has potential. It needs better management. Most of the buildings can't be entered. Museum exhibits are poorly presented (Most of them have no proper lighting or no lighting at all). It needs more English signs and map. Some exhibits have English. Lots of areas are used for other purposes (I think there are people living there as i see clothing lines). Lot's of building materials scattered in the Premysis. I even found old sofas stacked on the second floor of a building C. I hope the government will fix it, so i will be able to change the rating. Maybe try to learn from Vredeburg Museum in Yogyakarta

Losari Beach in Makassar, Sulawesi Island, is a picturesque destination known for its dramatic sunset views and vibrant culinary scene. The beach embodies the region's rich food culture, influenced by indigenous Bugis and Makassarese cuisines as well as Chinese, Arab, and European traders. Seafood is prominent due to the city's proximity to the sea, while aromatic spices reflect its historical trade connections.
Losari Beach in Makassar is famous for its stunning sunsets. While it’s not a sandy beach for swimming, it’s perfect for a leisurely stroll, enjoying local snacks like pisang epe, and soaking in the lively seaside atmosphere.
Kevin K — Google review
Dirty water, lots of rubbish and smells like rubbish. Lots of the tiles are slippery and there are parts of the promenade that collapsed creating big holes. It's difficult to walk as the food stalls take over the promenade. The only good thing is the view of masjid kubah 99, and maybe some beautiful looking boats. Not worth a visit
Evi Y — Google review
Meh. A good view of the Masjid Kunah 99 across the water but not a whole lot more. In the evenings its your standard fare of pop-up street vendors selling local food, balloons and wares, roving musicians, etc. If you skip it you're not missing much.
Mike E — Google review
It's the landmark of Makassar city, but sadly it's not well maintained. There is a lot of rubbish around the area, dirty toilets, not enough lighting, and the stalls are also not quite organized. Alas, this place can be a great profitable hotspot if the government knows how to handle it, like holding cultural events, local performance, dance & arts and bazaar. Hopefully someday it can be better
Danny K — Google review
The icon of the city. Good place for taking picture at sunrise or sunset. Good place for family gathering. A lot of food stalls here. Spacious parking lot for bike and cars. It is such a shame that the water is not clear even dirty with platics and rubbish.

Theme Parks
Located in Makassar, the Trans Studio Mall is a massive shopping center that offers a wide range of attractions for visitors. The mall boasts one of the largest indoor theme parks globally, making it a popular destination for families and tourists alike. With over 12 hectares of space and 20,000 square meters of floor area, the mall has become a premier family-friendly spot since its establishment in 2010.
Great shoppingmall. I love this place. Lots of stores. And outside a dutch street. Also a wooden shoe outside. I am dutch, so the shoe fits me:). Only one thing to say, there is written 'panenkoeken', but that must be 'pannenkoeken'. Just a small detail, hehe.
Marco L — Google review
The mall itself has a large selection of local and international fashion tenants, various restaurants, cafes, and a food court offering both international and local cuisine (like coto Makassar and pisang epe). Other attractions like Funworld, Kidzooona, and Zoomoov rides are often available. The complex also includes a hotel, making it a convenient "one-stop destination" for leisure and shopping.
A M — Google review
Great place to spend time indoor while transiting plane here Lots of shops and restaurants
Bossi C — Google review
Nice clean Mall and somehow it is quiet place too. I think it will be better if you come and see for yourself 🤠
Uphu E — Google review
One of the most favorite shopping mall in Makassar. Plenty of luxurious brands. A place for sneakerheads to hunt their favorite sneakers (Vans, Nike, Adidas, Puma, etc). Plenty of restaurant, bakery and cafe too. Had a huge parking lot, and there is vallet services too. Great place to hangout.
Sam J — Google review
This is truly embarrassing for a large company. Trans Corp should be able to achieve better quality than this. The toilets are incredibly dirty. It looks like there haven't been any upgrades since they first opened. Not like other competitors, for example Living World. Their restrooms are always clean and tidy. Please improve, as the largest mall in eastern Indonesia, it's embarrassing.
Bili N — Google review
The mall is located in the southwestern section of Makassar. It is accessible by the Jalan Metro Tj. Bunga from the city centre. A sprawling structure with several themes to the exterior facade. Entry is a little restrictive as only a certain bank's card is accepted. Otherwise, a ticket is required. Once past the parking gantry, the parking area is huge. There's not much shade for many outside. Once inside, the mall has ample space to walk aimlessly. With hundreds of outlets in the mall, there should be one that should be able to attract the most jaded shoppers around. A massive red replica of the Eiffel Tower on its side is in this mall. Amazing! I found this mall particular relaxing.
Nazif J — Google review
Decent mall with tons of Main Street brands such as Zara, Adidas, DJI, Häagen Dazs, Uniqlo and lots more. The place is massive - at least I wouldn’t have expected such a large mall in Makassar.

Island
Pulau Samalona is a picturesque island near Makassar that attracts visitors with its seafood stalls and opportunities for diving and snorkeling. Managed by the local community, it has become a popular destination due to the abundance of marine life and vibrant coral reefs found in its waters. If you don't have your own snorkeling gear, don't worry, as there are rental shops available along the beach.
Stayed for a night here. The experience was superb! Locals were friendly and kind. The view are great, because I came when the weather is nice. I bought a package for round trip (Makassar Port-Samalona-Makassar Port), snorkel (boat & equipments rent), 2 rooms, and one time meal for 13 people on a reasonable price. I did not feel robbed here. All is good. Me and friends did fishing, we catch some, and oh boy freshly caught fish and squid were the best! The electricity only available from 6 PM to 6 AM, be sure to charge all your gadgets at night. Beer are available here, just ask the store owned by locals.

This is a very small island. You only need 15 mins to explore this island. I guess it was famous before but now it seems like lack of maintenance..the deck was broken. You can find some clean beach with white soft sand. But if you want to take snorkeling you will need 50K for gears 50K for ladder and some money for the boat. If you want to just chill you need to pay 50K for bamboo gazebo. Local people was nice and humble

Fort van Gowa Sultanaat - Benteng Somba Opu is a reconstructed 16th-century fortress that served as a stronghold of the Sultanate of Gowa. Originally built in the 1520s by Daeng Matanre Karaeng Tumapa'risi' Kallonna, it was later destroyed in the late 1600s during a fierce military confrontation with the Dutch.
Good place for gathering, you can stay at one of traditional house here. It is enough for more than 20 people.
Sufi M — Google review
The historic structure sits in a large area dotted with replicas of traditional houses from regions in Sulawesi. The short distance from the city centre of Makassar makes it accessible to many. The structure itself is a testament to the efforts by the 16th century kingdom of Gowa in protecting its people. However, the Dutch East India Company managed to overcome the Fort in the 17th century.
Nazif J — Google review
It sad that no appreciation were given to this place by local government and people living in the surrounding. There are traditional houses being built with proper sign. But the house were closed on my visit on January 6,2025. There were people living in the house, not sure if they lived there legally but there was clothes changing on the rope to dry. I walked into 1 house that was left unlock, nothing in the house but toilet and a napping cat. The fort itself was crumbling with moss growing on the stone that makes it slippery to climb so i decided not to go up. It was not worthy risking my safety. Roof tiles of the canopy on top of the fort were gone and clearly fell down. It's just a matter of time before the whole canopy crumbling down. I don't understand why tourist appreciate it more than the locals that we are all sad to see this place. I could be better. It could be a nice touristy cultural village. They must learn from Balinese how to run a culture village
Evi Y — Google review
This place is the remains of a civilization long before Dutch colonial era, from here, you can learn the era of Gowa civilization that served as a trade city and fortress. Some of the buildings are still preserved, some other are buried. Many of the historical items contained traces of Gowa civilization are displayed here in the museum, some of them were recently excavated. The museum are pretty interesting, the entry is free, but sadly the surrounding area aren't well maintained. Hopefully someday it can be better
Danny K — Google review

The Museum Balla Lompoa, located in Sungguminasa near Makassar, is a tribute to the rich history of the Gowa kingdom. Housed in a traditional Bugis structure, it boasts an extensive collection of artifacts and items that offer insight into the heritage of Gowa. The museum is a faithful reconstruction of the Palace of the Gowa Kingdom and features private chambers for the king, storage space for artifacts, and a reception room.
It's well maintained heritage sight! There are 2 buildings, of which 1 is replica. Make sure you go inside to see the family tree, traditional clothes, weapons. There are also lot of pictures. It's good spot for people who love to click selfies. Make sure you bring a hat, if it's sunny day. The toilets are run down.

It's a beautiful traditional house that used to be a palace. There were lots of invaluable historical items that were displayed with lack of effort to make it a tourist worthy museum, no proper lighting and no English. It needs professional help to run this museum properly and so safe the items so that future generations can still see it. Hopefully government will do something to help the palace fix the museum. It's still worth a visit if you are in Makasar
Evi Y — Google review
This museum is housed in a wonderful wooden structure that is representative of the traditional architecture of Old Gowa, the Palace of Tamalate. The museum should enlighten you on the history of the people of Gowa. The royal family and the nobles. The conflicts. There are collections of old coins, weapons, clothing, paintings, and literature. Should you want to dress up as a Gowa noble, you could rent clothes at the museum for a fabulous photo opportunity. In summary, this museum should be on your list of attractions to visit when in Makassar.

Kebesaran seorang raja. Balla Lompoa Museum is one of the historic buildings in the territory of the Kingdom of Goa. Balla Lompoa is one of the Palace for the Kingdom of Goa. The word Balla Lompoa comes from the makassar language which means the Great House. Why is a the Great House? Though there is a larger building beside it? Balla Lompoa actually has its own meaning so it is said that. Called Balla Lompoa because inside there is "Kallompoang" which means Greatness. The greatness of a king. That is the reason why it is called Balla Lompoa. After King Goa to 36, Sultan Abdul Kadir Aididdin Andi Idjo Karaengta Lalolang (First Regent in Gowa District) died, the Palace of Balla Lompoa then made Museum Balla Lompoa. Balla Lompoa Museum area also has Tamalate Palace which is often used as a multipurpose building.

The front gate is always closed, So u need to head to the rear gate to get in. It's a little bit dirty because of littering trashes around. There're couple houses on stilts (rumah panggung); one for the King family's quarter, one is for the museum. The ticket fee for the museum costs IDR 5.000. Inside the museum, you can see the traditional clothing, traditional music instrument, the King's family tree, King’s throne, and many portraits of the previous Kings. This place adorned with red and yellow curtains, giving it amazing touches. You won't get bored looking at it. The wind breezing through the big windows makes this place even more relaxing.

The fries with the herbs taste also not good. We had the feeling that the food (except of the salad) was not fresh. It was frozen before. (The grilled chicken) overall either average. Service where nice and friendly.

The food is nice, a big portion. I guess not so many cafes know that if your drinks do not contain alcohol it should be served in a regular glass. Fancy and small glass is for alcoholic drinks. The dessert was nice with ice cream.

Their APPLE CRUMBLE is to die for! I don't usually start off a review straight into one particular menu. But this dessert is definitely on the heavenly level. The other menu, Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli tasted good too, good portion. All decently priced. The cafe is clean, with plenty of natural light. Although a bit on the shabby-side (Suspect due to the Ramadhan month). Staff are attentive, but not memorable (but no complain there). All in all, allow me to reiterate something. Their APPLE CRUMBLE is good enough reason to warrant the many revisits in days to come. Kudos to the chef!

Of course I love burgers... They have so called western -italian food... Many choices of Pizzas, pastas, burgers.. They also have some local Makasar foods. You can also find gelato here . I tried their ribs burger... And I love it...

Nice place with western food. Staff can speak English. Decorate is also western style. I may recommend this place. Food is tasty. Meal looks like a fresh. Seafood soup is standard western tomato seafood soup. Very nice. Try it. Some things which need to be corrected: there is no box with tissues on the tables. Coffee cups are small. As for me I like big cup. Cesar salad may be ordered only with chicken. No seafood or salmon available. Please change you menu for seafood cesar. Ravioli are very fried. Regular ravioli must be steamed. If you want fried ravioli, don’t do deep. Just light fried. But ravioli filling (topping) are very tasty. Really nice.

Pulau Kodingareng Keke is a breathtaking tourist island with pristine white sandy beaches and clear blue waters, making it a must-visit destination for travelers. Accessible by renting a boat from Paotere port, the island is just 30 minutes away. It offers excellent snorkeling spots like Atlantis Garden and Garuda in sea, as well as the flagship Phinisi for diving enthusiasts.
I’m too in love with this place. I came with a group of friends and we are the only people who stayed there even though it was weekend. It’s quiet, memorable, and amazing experience. The sky was clear, the waves were calm, and the beach was beautiful with gradient colors of blue, turquoise and white sands. It was worth it.

Bugis Waterpark Adventure in Makassar is a must-visit destination for water fun enthusiasts. This expansive amusement park boasts an array of thrilling water slides, a float pool, and a leisurely lazy river. The park, established in 2012, is one of the largest in Indonesia and offers ten exhilarating slides for visitors to enjoy. Additionally, there are separate pools for adults and kids, as well as amenities such as safety lockers and rentable gazebos for private events.
It is a beautiful place for recreation

Nice view and area to rest but totally griddy. They ask for 150.000 rp for person at the entry and ask for payment again when you want to sit and rest in one of the gazebos inside. Kinda take away all your fun and pleasure by asking for money for anything. Luckily they didn't ask for money again for using the toilet.
TheAlbanian4ever — Google review
This is a terrible place, Absolutely no value for money. The entrance money is too high, bad maintenance of everything. They check your bags for food or snacks, a violation of your privacy!! You have to pay a high price to rent a place to sit. No other accomodation available to sit. The most annoying thing is their way of ordering drinks or food. You have to order at one place, than pay it at another place and go back to the place where you ordered it and wait (too long) to get your order. This all to avoid their employees to steel... so ridiculous. The client is victim of bad staff-training. We were waiting for a long time to order and when we asked where our order was, we found out that they didn't even start with the preparation of our order. This is the worst place I've ever been in Indonesia. With this attitude towards guests, I do not expect them to be successful in the long term. They don't deserve a star. This place should be closed immediately. (Visited on the 4th of August 2024)

South Sulawesi restaurant
Rumah Makan Muda Mudi is a well-known establishment in Makassar that offers a variety of homey dishes in a humble setting. This restaurant has been around since 1993 and is popular among locals and tourists alike. Their menu includes delectable options such as Nasi Goreng (fried rice), Es Pisang Ijo (iced green banana), Jalangkote, and otak-otak. It is also the perfect place for enjoying tea time.
More than just a place to eat—it's a flavorful journey that brings back nostalgic memories. The Es Pisang Ijo is flawless—soft, sweet, and refreshing. The Jalangkote is crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, perfectly complemented by the tangy vinegar sauce. Fast service, clean and cozy atmosphere. Perfect for relaxing with family or friends. A must-visit when in Makassar!"
Hanif D — Google review
Went here based on the recommendation from the locals (they said it'sa place for finding the best es pisang ijo. The jalangkote and lumpia are also recommended ones). Tried their specials: es pisang ijo, pallu butung, jalangkote, lumpia; and also the other menus: gado gado and lontong campur. Es pisang ijo was good enough, but we love pallu butung more👍. The sumsum tasted "sharp". The pisang ijo syrup was a little bit too sweet for us, even though the ice had melted. Luckily, on both menus, the bananas were tender and sweet enough; unlike what we've found in other places in Makassar. Gado gado tasted good 👍, but we didn't like the lontong campur (weird for us, maybe not suitable for our taste buds hahaha). The jalangkote and lumpia are also good enough. We personally like the lumpia better. The place was clean also 👌

Es Pisang Ijo is a must eat dessert in Makassar. The grab driver brought me to a resto named Muda Mudi, he said it has the best es pisang ijo in town and yes...!!! I like it very much. The green flour covering the banana is very nice and the syrup also nice... Must try..!!
Jenny S — Google review
At Rumah Makan Muda Mudi, our dinner exploration unfolded, revealing a tapestry of tastes and textures that painted distinct impressions. The Nasi Campur delivered an enjoyable ensemble, featuring succulent cuts of meat and a flavorful Rawon broth that truly stood out. The Gado-Gado and the Jakarta-style Mie Goreng both left their mark with a pleasing symphony of flavors, masterfully balanced. The Mie, with its ideal texture, showcased a harmonious middle ground between being overly firm and excessively soft. In a slight departure, the Es Teler left a bit to be desired, its visual appeal lacking the desired allure. The initial assurance of jackfruit presence, provided by the staff, was ultimately unfulfilled when the dish was served. Concurrently, the restaurant's staff exhibited limitations in their knowledge about the menu, struggling even with basic inquiries such as the volume of their bottled water. Notably, I've formed a habit of ordering Pisang Hijau to go as an ole-ole. The added convenience here is that the restaurant offers vacuum packing for this purpose, ensuring a seamless takeaway experience.

Popular for their Es Pisang Ijo (Banana Ice). Taste great! Winning as the most favorite Es Pisang Ijo in Makassar (see the video above). Kinda pricy though but a great place to enjoy authentic Makassar's cuisine.

One of a-must-visit eatery when you are in Makassar. Quite famous with the Nasi Goreng (fried rice), their Es Pisang Ijo (iced green banana) is also superb! Also try the Jalangkote and otak-otak. The right place for tea time.
Rivo P — Google review
Went to this place because of its Es Pisang Hijau. It's delicious...must try here. It's not too sweet. The price is Rp 25,000 and it's filling because the banana is big/thick. Place is not too big, with AC, clean and comfortable. Apparently...they won several awards as they put the certificates on the wall
Nana S — Google review
Tasty ice pisang ijo even it was too sweet for me. The white porridge taste really good made of some coconut milk create a unique taste between sweet and salty, the green skin from pisang ijo also taste good, with a bit of jelly texture completed with condensed milk and the secret red syrup. Best paired with jalangkote or in other area known as pastel. Made from crispy skin with a puff pastry like texture, filled with boiled egg, beansprouts, potato, carrot and some rice noodle. Taste a bit sweet, salty and to balance it you have to eat with the spicy sauce served there

Mosque
Masjid Kubah 99 Asmaul Husna is a stunning waterfront mosque with 99 orange-and-white domes arranged in a cone shape, making it popular for sunset views. Located on reclaimed land facing Losari Beach of Makassar, the mosque represents the 99 names of Allah SWT. Designed by architect Ridwan Kamil, the vibrant exterior features vivid shades of vermillion and mustard. The interior is equally impressive.
The mosque is quite spacious and grand, offering plenty of room for worshippers. However, it's a bit unfortunate that some areas inside appear not well-maintained. Certain spots could use better care, and overall maintenance seems insufficient. With some improvements, it could truly reflect the beauty of its architecture.
Fahri G — Google review
The new icon of Makassar city. It sighted from a unique building form with a lot of domes above but there are no structures to support it. You don't be puzzled to park your vehicle because there is a spacious parking lot. Beside the place to say a prayer, you will find stalls if you feel hungry and thirsty; game station for your children or you can just seagaze at twilight.
Mufti R — Google review
The mosque stands as a stunning blend of beauty and surrealism, its exterior glistening in the daylight. Unlike traditional structures made of brick, this remarkable building is crafted from a sleek, reflective sheet material combined with concrete, giving it an otherworldly appearance. Yet, beyond its striking facade lies a place of worship that is rooted in the community—a functioning mosque that serves as a gathering space for prayers and events. Its eye-catching design, while undeniably attention-grabbing, embodies a purpose and a spirit, making it well worth a visit for those seeking to experience its unique charm and cultural significance.

World Z — Google review
The 99 Domes Mosque (Arabic: مسجد القبة ٩٩) or more commonly known as the Asmaulhusna Mosque (Arabic: مسجد اسماء الحسنى) is a historic mosque located in the city of Makassar, South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. The mosque was built in 2017 and officially opened in 2023. It has become the latest icon of South Sulawesi Province, situated in the Center Point of Indonesia (CPI) Tanjung Bunga area. The name “99 Domes” is derived from the number of domes in the mosque's design, symbolizing the 99 Beautiful Names of Allah SWT in Islam. This carries deep spiritual meaning, where the physical architecture of the mosque is not merely a building but also a visual symbol of remembrance of God's attributes. Each dome has a different size, forming an astonishing and harmonious tiered visual pattern. The mosque was designed by renowned Indonesian architect Ridwan Kamil, who is also the Governor of West Java and an architecture graduate from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). Its architectural style blends Islamic geometric elements, Nusantara colors, and tropical architectural principles. The vibrant orange, red, and yellow hues of the domes reflect the spirit and joy characteristic of Bugis-Makassar culture. The construction process was divided into several stages with considerable challenges due to its location on reclaimed coastal land. The construction required complex techniques to ensure stability and resistance to the marine environment. Although still under development, the main parts of the mosque, such as the prayer hall and several supporting facilities, are already available for public use. In terms of specifications, the mosque can accommodate around 10,000 worshippers. The building consists of various zones, including the main prayer area, ablution area, minarets, multipurpose rooms, and public open spaces around it. The architectural beauty of the mosque is not only evident in its unique number of domes but also in its design sensitivity to the qibla direction, natural lighting, and ventilation tailored to the tropical coastal climate. Philosophically, the architecture of the 99-Dome Mosque conveys a message about the grandeur of God and the diversity of Indonesia. Its design encourages Muslims to reflect on the attributes of Allah every time they see or enter the mosque. Additionally, its location by the sea symbolizes Makassar's openness as a port city that embraces diverse cultures and ideas. That's amazing.

The most cosmopolitan supermarket in town. Provides local or imported foods and snacks. Sells various kinds of needs from food, household appliances and so on. It also sells non-halal foods (different fridge with halal one) also sells beer drinks which are very rarely found in other supermarkets in this city. If your are a foreigner who stays in Makassar and looking for some western groceries, this is where to go. Anyway, I recommend to try their hotdog.

Indonesian restaurant
Pisang Epe' Mandiri is a popular sweet snack in Makassar, featuring grilled bananas flattened and greased with margarine. It's a traditional food made from roasted banana mixed with cheese, chocolate, milo, or brown sugar. The most crowded stand is located around Losari Beach and offers various toppings such as cheese and milo. Despite the affordable price and diverse menu, it can get quite busy during weekends.
The most crowded pisang epe stand around Losari Beach. 1 portion rated at 11k rupiahs. It also offers sweet/ salty boiled corn. It has various toppings for pisang epe but the most favorites are cheese and milo. Weekend is the most crowded time for this place. And be careful, there are many buskers who will come up to you while you enjoy your food.
Fitriyani W — Google review
On arrival at Makassar International Airport, my friend suggested a few dishes to try out. Since it was my first time in Sulawesi, I opted for something safe and sweet. The traditional pisang epe'. There were so many stalls offering this sweet delicacy. However, there was one place that seemed to be so very crowded with customers. Pisang epe' Mandiri. We had to try the pisang epe' there. Tables were full and no chairs were free. After waiting for almost 15 minutes, we managed to get a table. Since we had ordered the moment we arrived, we didn't have to wait too long. The dish had the smoky smell of grilled bananas. The melted palm sugar was drizzled on top. When I took my first bite, I knew it was addictive. Dangerously so. I wasn't surprised at the huge crowd. It was just so good. Perhaps someone should try making this back in KL. And it only cost Rp15.000. Great value.
Nazif J — Google review
Pisang Epe Mandiri is a well-known spot for trying Makassar’s classic grilled banana snack. I recently visited and ended up enjoying my food on the second floor since all the tables on the first floor were full. It’s a popular place, especially in the evenings. The pisang epe was soft and nicely grilled, but personally, I found it a bit too sweet. The use of kental manis (sweetened condensed milk) was a little too much for my taste, overpowering the banana's natural flavor. The place itself could use better cleanliness, especially on the dining floors. While it’s a decent place to try this local treat, it may not be the most comfortable if you’re particular about hygiene or prefer a less sugary dessert.
Fahri G — Google review
The most crowded pisang epe place in Makassar. The dining area is on the quiet busy road side. You basically “fight” for table lol. Price is super affordable, their service is actually quite fast considering how many ppl eat there. Their menu is diverse (pisang epe with so many toppings you can choose from).
Tiara P — Google review
Tasty, one of the authentic epe in town, now there is many flavours but the original one still the best for me, there is some drink you can choose, the place not really clean placed on the side of the road, the serving time was really fast there is toilet availabe and the price not that expensive
Syaif ( — Google review
This 'Pisang Epe' was sooo full of people. Everyone lined up to eat Pisang Epe, either for dinner or just for a quick meal. Pisang Epe is a traditional food from makassar, made from roasted banana and they mixed it with cheese, chocolate, also milo or a simple brown sugar (caramel). Oh, tell the seller to not forget flatten the banana before they serve it to you! That's the point of eating Pisang Epe.
Nindya P — Google review
The most delicious Pressed Banana (Pisang Epe) is a traditional snack in Makassar. Also, toasted bread is damn tasty but cheap price..... recommended place to visit even more is a must visit culinary spot
Irfan T — Google review
This is my favorite Pisang Epe in town. They serve pisang epe, jagung bakar, and roti bakar. They also serve various options of beverages. My favorite topping of Pisang Epe is Milo keju. They have soft and aromatic banana, grilled with charcoal then pressed! Generous topping and affordable price

Toko Kopi Ujung, located in Makassar city, is a legendary coffee shop offering a wide variety of coffee products and souvenirs. They provide ready-to-drink coffee, roasted and unroasted beans, as well as snacks and souvenirs. The shop is known for its specialty coffees from Sulawesi and other regions like Flores or Bali.
Fave place to buy snack souvenirs from Makassar, or specialty coffee from Sulawesi, especially from south (Toraja, Malino, Enrekang) also from outside Celebes like Flores or Bali. The special coffees are grinded fresh. They also offers fresh coffee drinks /latte or bottled ones. Love it. The snacks from Makassar can easily be found here, like baruasa, kue putu, sarabba (makassar's bandrek), dampo Pisang, etc.
Rachmat — Google review
I tried several types of coffee beans that they were using that day to brew coffee. Two of them were Three Stooges and Dark Knight, each offering distinctive flavors. House Blend 3S is a signature blend from Kopi Ujung that combines beans from various regions. This blend is designed to achieve a balanced flavor between strength and smoothness, suitable for both espresso and manual brewing. Dark Knight is a dark roast variant that offers a strong and bold flavor. With a high roasting level, this coffee has a dominant flavor profile with hints of dark chocolate and a slight bitter undertone. It is perfect for coffee enthusiasts who prefer an intense and characterful taste. The only issue with this place is its limited seating, which is combined with the souvenir sales area. It’s hard to imagine how crowded it would feel if the place were full, making it difficult to enjoy the coffee you ordered.

Overall I had great experience having afternoon coffee break here. Price-wise it was reasonable. Service-wise it was reasonable too; It is not apple-to-apple if you expect St#rb#cks' service level since this is local coffee shop having local friendliness level. Definitely I shall return and recommend it to all of you.

This is the place for a true coffee lover, this shop sell a freshly roasted coffee beans where they roast them self at the second floor. From outside it already shown it's uniqe compare to the other shop around it. When you open the door the aroma of roasted beans struck from the inside to your nose with relaxing sensation. This shop use high rise seat arrangement and there is a standing table for you who want to enjoy espresso, they collect a local beans around the Sulawesi (this is my favorite things). In this shop they sell a souvenir from makassar and of course they sell the beans too.

Wisma Jampea is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Makassar, conveniently located near the police office and just a stone's throw from popular attractions like Losari Beach and Fort Rotterdam. This budget-friendly accommodation offers clean rooms equipped with air conditioning and private bathrooms, making it an excellent choice for travelers seeking value without compromising on comfort. While amenities such as soap, shampoo, and food services are not provided—only hot coffee and tea—you'll find that the overall cleanliness makes up for it.
The rooms are a little dirty and some stuff is broken. (shower, door to toilet, wardrobe...) But you will get a room with ac and a private bathroom. More than you can expect for a price like that. If you are looking for international standards, go elsewhere but value for money is great and I enjoyed both of my stays.

It is located near the police office. This is the cheapest place I've ever got during my traveling to several cities in Indonesia. Thanks to Agoda app. Eventhough it is cheap, but the cleanliness of the room is good, the price worth the facilities as well. There is no soap, shampoo, tooth brush, so make sure you bring your own. There are no food service as well, only hot coffee and tea. Overall, if you looking for cheaper and quite clean place, it's worth.

Don't look for rice... because the only ones available are ketupat and buras. (Original) Cotto yg infonya paling dicari di makassar...
