Zanskar Arts is a charming store situated in the main market area of Leh, offering a variety of local handicrafts, jewelry, fabrics, and carpets. What sets it apart is its high-quality woolen garments made from pure Pashmina wool, which are popular among both locals and tourists for their softness. In addition to shawls and sweaters, the shop also sells Kashmiri bedsheets, dress materials, and other souvenirs that are highly sought after in India.
If one wants to learn and buy good quality Pashmina, yak wool etc. this is the place. The owner patiently explains to you the different thread counts and weave types giving you a variety of choices before you find your perfect shawl. Do check out his store.
Snehaa S — Google review
I only bought jewelry from this store so I can only write about that. While he had good knowledge of the items, the items were grossly overpriced. Even after negotiating with him to bring the price down, when I checked the prices online later, they were still much lower. Felt badly cheated and so would not recommend this shop at all unless you have a very good idea of the actual prices.

Located near to the Mosque in Leh, the shop has decent variety of pashmina shawls, mufflers, woolen caps, dresses beside brass articles and other items. Prices are reasonable, dealing is good, and quality is superb. Saffron quality is very genuine. I liked doing almost all of my shopping in leh from here. Strongly recommend to visit and do shopping from here.

If you crave for ultra high quality pashmina or yak wool garments at a reasonable price, Zanskar Arts is the place for you. Packed to the brim with garments, jewelry and mementos like Buddha's made of copper, this place is your one stop destination to buy. It is located in the heart of Leh, that is the Leh Market. The prices are reasonable and the quality is top notch. As a picky buyer myself I found myself being treated to the best quality garments all throughout my visit. The hospitality of the staff is also what makes this shop a good one.

Leh Market is surrounded by a plethora of attractions that are sure to leave a lasting impression on any traveler. The market is located near a small lane leading to Chubi, which provides a shortcut to the back alley of Leh Palace. Adjacent to the market is Kashmiri Gali, where people from Kashmir have established their businesses. While it's difficult to narrow down the must-visit places in Leh, these attractions are likely to find a permanent place in any traveler's journal.
The market street has a very unique local architecture. The road is paved with stone. On both sides are two rows of houses with Tibetan architecture. Along both sides of the street are many shops and delicious restaurants with reasonable prices. The people are gentle and simple.

One of the best places in Leh just to roam around and see the local market, people and culture. Personally I loved this place, you can just sit there, observe people, take a walk, eat, photograph and enjoy. You can take a small trek to Leh palace as well from here. Authorities and locals have done a good job in keeping the place clean.
Ritu W — Google review
Leh Market, nestled in the heart of the town, is a vibrant blend of tradition and modernity. Historically, it served as a crucial trade hub on the ancient Silk Route, connecting traders from Tibet, Kashmir, and Central Asia. Today, the market reflects Ladakh’s rich cultural heritage, offering everything from pashmina shawls and handwoven carpets to prayer flags, antiques, and local handicrafts. The narrow streets are lined with cafes, souvenir shops, and Tibetan stalls. It’s not just a shopping destination, but a cultural experience where travelers can interact with locals and enjoy the laid-back yet lively atmosphere of Leh.
Firdous A — Google review
The walk through the market is quite an experience. There's a lot of good food options . If you are looking for cheap food options this is not your place but the very nearby streets you could find budget restaurants as well. The ladakhi locals are very friendly .
Bins J — Google review
What a lively and beautiful market. You can spend hours here roaming, sitting and sipping a coffee. We were staying in a hotel very close to the market so we visited this market everyday during our stay in Leh. We bought souvenirs from this market. Also there are so many good cafes to try like Rabsal cafe, brazil cafe, lamayaru cafe. Whole vibe of the market is very vibrant, and u get to see the cultural activities in evening.
Gaurav S — Google review
Main street is quite touristy. Secondary back street and beyond very local. Main street you can get souvenirs, maps, sun screens, simcard, xero copy permits, etc. Plenty of restaurants as well. For but better prices on goods step into secondary street. Those are oriented more towards locals and prices are also better. I bought some amazing leather boots for my motorcycle trip for 1000r which is about 12.5$ I already did 1000km and crossed a few rivers and I'm very happy with this boots.
K S — Google review
Leh Market is a vibrant and lively place that truly captures the spirit of Ladakh. It’s the best spot to explore local culture, shop for souvenirs, and taste authentic food. You’ll find a variety of shops selling handicrafts, woolen clothes, jewelry, prayer flags, pashmina shawls, and dry fruits. Prices can be a bit on the higher side, so bargaining is recommended. The market streets are colorful and bustling, especially in the evenings, and there are plenty of small cafés and restaurants where you can enjoy local delicacies. Parking nearby can be a bit tricky, so it’s better to take a taxi or walk if you’re staying close. Overall, Leh Market is a must-visit for shopping, eating, and soaking in the local vibe. It’s not just a marketplace but an experience in itself.
Sreenadh E — Google review
Leh Market is the vibrant heart of the town – a lively mix of colors, culture, and local charm nestled among the majestic Himalayas. Whether you’re hunting for handwoven pashmina, Tibetan jewelry, prayer flags, or just soaking in the daily life of the locals, this market has something magical. The air smells of incense and momos, and the warm smiles of the shopkeepers make every interaction feel personal. It’s the perfect place to pick up souvenirs or simply wander and get lost in the rhythm of Leh. A must-visit for a true taste of Ladakh’s spirit.

Handicrafts wholesaler
When exploring the exquisite handicrafts of Kashmir, Himalayan Pashmina Shawls stands out as a premier destination for those seeking luxurious shawls crafted from the fine wool of the Pashmina goat. These shawls are celebrated for their unparalleled softness and warmth, often adorned with intricate hand-embroidered designs that reflect the rich cultural heritage of the region. Historically favored by royalty around the globe, these elegant pieces are not just garments but timeless treasures that embody sophistication.
Awesome shawl connection…if you enter this shop you will definitely buy as they have varieties of design…love their collection
Jigmet L — Google review
Himalayan pashmina shawls are highly regarded for their exceptional quality, softness, and warmth. Here are some key points to consider when reviewing them: ### Pros: 1. **Material Quality**: Made from the fine undercoat of Himalayan goats (Chyangra), these shawls are incredibly soft and luxurious. The fiber is very fine, often less than 15 microns in diameter. 2. **Craftsmanship**: Hand-woven by skilled artisans, each shawl represents hours of meticulous work, ensuring unique patterns and a high level of detail. 3. **Warmth**: Despite being lightweight, pashmina shawls provide excellent insulation, making them perfect for cold climates. 4. **Versatility**: These shawls are versatile accessories, suitable for various occasions, whether formal or casual. They can be worn as scarves, wraps, or even as elegant evening wear. 5. **Breathability**: Pashmina wool is breathable, making it comfortable to wear in different temperatures. 6. **Aesthetic Appeal**: The natural sheen and beautiful drape of pashmina shawls add a touch of elegance and sophistication to any outfit. ### Cons: 1. **Price**: Genuine Himalayan pashmina shawls are quite expensive due to the rarity of the wool and the labor-intensive production process. 2. **Maintenance**: They require special care, including dry cleaning and careful storage to prevent moth damage. 3. **Fragility**: The delicate nature of pashmina wool means that it can snag or tear more easily than other materials. 4. **Counterfeits**: The market is flooded with counterfeit pashmina shawls, which can make it challenging to ensure authenticity. Buyers need to be vigilant and purchase from reputable sources. ### Conclusion: Himalayan pashmina shawls are a worthwhile investment for those seeking a high-quality, luxurious accessory. Their exceptional softness, warmth, and craftsmanship make them stand out, though buyers should be prepared for the higher cost and maintenance requirements.

The Ladakh Art Palace, located in the Akbar Shopping Complex at Main Market, is a must-visit for those interested in traditional artefacts and jewellery. The store offers an impressive selection of rings, amulets, pendants, phurbas, brass teapots, incense dispensers, thangka paintings and other antique pieces. It's a great place to find Tibetan handicrafts and jewellery as well as items like Ladakhi hats.
What a fantastic shop - with so many high quality items to choose from. When we arrived it was closed, but after a quick phone call from our guide and a 5 minute tea break, the owners arrived and opened up. We could have chosen many things, but settled on a beautiful antique box. It was too big to carry, so was expertly packed and shipped back to the UK by Rinchen and the team. Even if you just want to browse the best of what Ladakh has to offer, then visit, but don't blame me if you end up buying something!

The shop is on the first floor in the main Leh market. They have a very impressive collection of handcrafted Buddhas and other deities and many Ladakhi artworks, stone jewellery, Ladakhi jewellery and attires. Be ready to spend a good amount to acquire one of their pieces.

I bought 2 beautiful old turquoise rings and an old perak from Ladakh Art Palace. Both items were exactly as represented and were old but good condition. The perak and the rings were very carefully wrapped and packed to prevent damage. Before it was shipped the perak had damaged areas from being so old and it was repaired at no cost to me. It was shipped via DHL so I could track it on it's journey. I am very impressed with the quality of merchandise and the incredible customer service at LAP! I highly recommend this business! Patricia

The opposite of all commercial gift shops and ‘authentic stores’ in Leh. This art gallery/museum only contains collectible, verified and unique items. The staff is very knowledgeable and warm. It is a Main Market for tourists to buy shawls, handicrafts and a many restaurants are also there which serves delicious food. Do buy from the locals selling their farm produce without any bargain because it takes a lot to grow vegetables at 11,000 feet. I have got palak and few other vegetables which tastes heavenly and you will always crave for it.
Bhaveen J — Google review
A good place to stock up on winter wear if you haven't already done so before arriving in Ladakh. As with most Tibetan markets, this one is filled with cheap but quality goods. Most of the stuff here is either a first or 2nd copy of branded winter wear. I still remember buying a Nike sweatshirt (obviously fake) from Nainital Tibetan market that lasted me almost 8 years, so I can definitely vouch for the quality. If you like something, bargain and take it. Quality of the goods is good and most locals use these products.
The C — Google review
Tibetan markets all over India are ubiquitous for their cheap ware. It's a similar market in Leh too. There is the general hustle and bustle, the shops which sell anything and everything found on earth. The tiny shops, the momo joints, the special things and the usual first copy of high end brands. Anyone who comes to Leh can make a visit to get all general necessities here. Not worth a landmark visit, but still can cater to essential requirements

Market
Leh Main Market, also known as Kharyog, is the historic Old Town of Leh located below the seventeenth century Leh Palace. It used to be a walled fortification with only 120 houses and five gates in different directions. The area offers a glimpse into the traditional residential houses and community spaces of the region. Despite being a popular tourist destination, Ladakh presents pristine and untouched views of nature with its barren land and snow-covered mountains.
A go-to place for shoppers. The street has shops and outlets of multiple sorts like food, bakery, home decor, clothing & apparel, and cafes. Just stroll and explore the shops. The best thing is no vehicle is allowed in the main market area, not even 2-wheelers. The place is well-maintained. The seating arrangements are ample for people to relax. Harmonious energy all around

The first place which i visited after landing in Leh and going to hotel was the Leh market. It is an amazing shopping and eating place. Many Ladakhi jewellery and bracelets are available here which instantly attracted me as I am a huge bracelet fan. Do buy bracelets from here and traditional ladakhi jewellery as well. I went to Leh when it was Ladakh festival going on and hence I was able to witness all the festivities that were arranged at the market area with stalls and concerts and parades of different villages. It was just mesmerizing to see such rick traditions of Ladakh brought out to people in this festival. Some of the glimpse I have captured and have presented to you. This place is a must visit as you will enjoy alot shopping and eating.

Vibrant heart of Leh! Leh Main Market is the perfect blend of local culture, food, and shopping. From Tibetan handicrafts and Pashmina shawls to handmade jewelry and prayer flags—you'll find something unique at every turn. The vibe is lively but not chaotic, and the backdrop of mountains adds to the charm. Plenty of cafes and local eateries around to try Ladakhi cuisine or just enjoy a coffee with a view. Great place to stroll in the evening, shop for souvenirs, or just soak in the atmosphere. Must-visit when in Leh!

Vibrations are like in London, and Las Vegas Fremont Street. Nice time passing in the evenings. Many types of restaurants are there for all types of people. We drank butter tea. Chilled air, the view of the Himalayas around us, the friendly nature of local people, local and traditional group dance, all of them gave a pleasant atmosphere to the market place.

A beautiful and well kept market, gives you a feeling of festivity. Many shops sell gems and jewellery, pashmina shawls, woollens, souvenirs, handicrafts. There are eating joints all around.

Must visit in Leh. You will be able to find lots of shops for T-shirts, for ladies, for bracelets for kids, home decoration as well as plenty of eating joints. You need to be good in bargaining as many shopkeepers say that a fixed price but if you will put pressure, if you will do bargaining then they will be able to reduce the price by 20 to 30%.

Jama Masjid Imamiya, the largest Sunni mosque in Ladakh, has a rich history dating back to the 17th century. Originally built by King Singey Namgyal to honor his Muslim mother, it was later reconstructed under an agreement between Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb and Ladakhi King Deldan Namgyal. This picturesque mosque holds significance for the local community and is located in a serene area.

The Hall of Fame in Leh, run by the Indian Army, is a museum and war memorial that showcases a collection of weapons and historical exhibits. Visitors can also explore a souvenir shop on the premises. This attraction is one of the many historical places in India and remains open throughout the year for tourists to visit. Additionally, it stands as an important landmark in the old town and offers visitors the opportunity to engage in a clockwise walk around ancient stupas, providing a unique cultural experience.
My experience at the Hall of Fame in Leh, Ladakh, was enriching and patriotic. The museum showcases the history of the Indian army's victories, particularly in the Kargil War, and honors gallantry award winners. The exhibits are well-curated, and the light and sound show is a compelling tribute to the armed forces. The war memorial and stories of soldiers' sacrifices evoke strong patriotic feelings. With an entry fee of ₹230, it's a worthwhile visit, especially for Indians traveling to Leh. Overall, the Hall of Fame is a must-visit destination that pays tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers.
Sherina T — Google review
A must visit place for all Indians. You will know what real sacrifice is. The soldiers have maintained an amazing museum with so much of history & story. Do contribute by buying from the souvenir shop or the cafe they have put up. The Shourya Sthal will take your breath. Do not miss the light & sound show.
Sayli K — Google review
We visited the Hall of Fame on 13th September 2025. The place was quite crowded, and the entry ticket was ₹125 per person, which also included a small souvenir. I had read about the evening light and sound show, but unfortunately, I couldn’t attend it this time. On arrival, we were warmly received by ex-army personnel, who, along with others, guided us through the memorial. The tour began with an introduction to the Kargil War, followed by a display of weapons captured by the Indian Army from the enemy during the conflict. These exhibits are open for visitors to see up close. There is also a dedicated section showcasing the culture, food, and traditions of Ladakh, which adds a local touch to the experience. Another section covers the Siachen War in detail, highlighting the extreme conditions and sacrifices of our soldiers. The way the army personnel narrated the stories was truly energetic and inspiring, making us deeply appreciate the courage and sacrifices of our armed forces. Listening to these real-life accounts of bravery leaves you feeling charged with pride and respect. A must-visit place in Leh for anyone who wants to understand the valor of our soldiers and the spirit of Ladakh.

Hall of Fame is a famous tourist spot in Leh. This place depicts how indian army fights at the border with Pakistan and China despite being at a very high altitude and rugged terrain. This place is also a tribute to the soldiers to sacrificed their life while fighting for our nation. There is a souvenir shop at this place where you can find really good things at a very reasonable price. I bought kesar, cranberry, bracelet and Kahwa. Sweaters and saree were also amazing here as well as jackets.

One of the most inspiring parts is the big map inside the building where you’ll hear powerful war stories — a truly unique and moving experience. This isn’t just a museum visit; it’s a heartfelt tribute to our brave soldiers. Every Indian should visit this place at least once to understand the sacrifices made for our safety and freedom.

Perched majestically atop a mountain, the Leh Palace, or Lhachen Palkhar, is a stunning historical landmark in the enchanting town of Leh, nestled within the breathtaking landscapes of Kashmir. Constructed in the 17th century under King Sengge Namgyal's reign, this former royal residence boasts nine stories and was designed to mirror the grandeur of Tibet’s Potala Palace.
We visited Leh Palace during our family trip, and it was a great experience. The palace is old and beautiful, with amazing views of the mountains and the city below. It felt like stepping back in time. The walk up to the palace is all by stairs, but it was worth it. Be aware for someone in wheelchair. Inside, we saw old paintings, wooden windows, and traditional rooms. There's also an exhibition room, and theatre room for film projection about the history of the venue. It was a peaceful and special place to visit. Took many nice photos. A must-see in Leh!

Leh place is an absolutely beautiful tourist spot ageing to old ancient 16th century built up. This place has entry fees. This building has 9 floors and goes in a trapezium shape so that base is able to take the weight of the upper floors. This palace is a enginnering marvel of ancient times. Doors are situated on East as per Tibetan norms. Every floor has quite a number of rooms and are quite spacious. Rooms decreases as we go up and 9th floor has only one room. Situated at a hill top this palace gives a perfect view of the Leh city overall which looks mesmerizing. Must visit if you are in Leh.

Situated in the heart of the city and near to Leh market. Good views from the balconies of the palace and the roof. Walk 50 meters from the parking ,Steep steps to climb, not for old age people and the children who needs to be carried. Entry ticket is minimal, amongst the palaces if one has to choose to see only one,I would suggest Shey palace. Nice temples and magnificent view from the too of Shey palace .

The palace was good, you get the best view of Leh city. The entry ticket is just ₹25/- per person but keep it mind that it has alot of stairs and if we got to see any artifact in the palace that will be cherry on top. The palace was empty. Must visit at the time of sunset, you'll love it

Majestic palace built on a hill. It’s a 9 story palace which you’ll only know if you visit it. Architecture is amazing. The view from top is the best!

Historical 17th century palace offering stunning views of Leh and surroundings. Entrance fee for foreigners is 300 rupees - the highest fee I've paid in Ladakh. Although the palace looks big, only 4 rooms are open to the public, three of them holding photography/video exhibitions of the area, plus the private royal shrine. The palace has however habilitated three terraces at the top to see the view. I was a bit disappointed by the restoration work done in the few areas open to the public, looked a bit modern, but perhaps reinforcing the corridors with concrete was necessary for structural safety. The walk up the palace is also stunning.

Shanti Stupa, located in the serene suburb of Changspa near Leh, is a remote place of worship featuring a large golden statue of Buddha. This peaceful sanctuary was inaugurated in 1991 by Japanese Buddhist Bhikshu Gyomo Nakamura and Ladakhi lama Kushok Bakula. Perched at an altitude of 4267 meters, it offers breathtaking views and serves as a symbol of peace amidst global conflicts.
Located on a hilltop, the journey from the car parking area is a mere 100 meters. The view from the Shanti Stupa is simply breathtaking, offering a panoramic vista of the surrounding landscape. Parking charges are complimentary, but there is an entry fee of Rs. 30 per person. It is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Leh, offering a tranquil and serene experience that is truly unforgettable. The peaceful ambiance and stunning scenery make it a perfect place to unwind and appreciate the beauty of the region. Highly recommended for those seeking a moment of serenity and awe-inspiring views.

We rode up to Shanti Stupa on a rented bike and had the loveliest experience. There’s free parking and a small ₹30 entry fee, and the person at the counter was genuinely kind. The souvenir shops near the entrance were helpful and sweet too. There’s a clean, free washroom before the climb and resting spots along the way, which I really appreciated (I needed a few breaks 😅). The climb is gentle, no stairs, and the view at the top is stunning—so worth it. The Shanti Stupa Café is beautiful, with friendly staff and no touristy overcharging—even for bottled water! Such a peaceful place with a calm vibe all around. 100/10 would recommend. :)
Marium J — Google review
I recently visited Shanti Stupa in Leh and had a truly memorable experience. The site, perched high on a hill, offered a serene atmosphere with very few tourists around, making it peaceful and uncrowded. This made it easy to capture beautiful, tranquil photos without crowds in the background—especially during sunset, which is the best time to visit for breathtaking views of Leh Valley and the glowing mountains. The panoramic view from the stupa at sunset is absolutely stunning, with the changing hues of the sky casting a magical glow over the valley and stupa itself. The climb up is rewarding, but do arrive at least 30–45 minutes before sunset for the best light and plenty of time to enjoy the scenery.

The Shanti Stupa is a white-domed Buddhist stupa situated on a hilltop in Leh, Ladakh. Built in 1991, it is a symbol of peace and prosperity and offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and Leh city. Purpose: It was built by a Japanese Buddhist organization, The Japanese for World Peace, to promote world peace and commemorate 2,500 years of Buddhism. Builder: The stupa was built under the guidance of Japanese Buddhist monk, Gyomyo Nakamura. The 14th Dalai Lama himself enshrined the relics of the Buddha at its base. Architecture: The gleaming white structure has two levels. The first level depicts the life and teachings of Buddha, while the second level features a central golden Buddha image. Location: It is located in the Chanspa area, about 5 kilometers from Leh town. Due to its elevation, it is an excellent spot to watch the sunrise and sunset. Accessibility: You can reach the stupa by car or by climbing the steep steps to the top. Best time to visit: Morning or late evening are ideal for enjoying the tranquil atmosphere and spectacular views. Hours: It is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Things to remember: Given the high altitude, it is recommended to carry water and take your time climbing the stairs.
ROHITH M — Google review
We visited Shanti Stupa on 13th September 2025, which happened to be a weekend. Although there was a crowd, the place still felt peaceful and calm. The entry fee was nominal, and since it is located at a height, we had to walk uphill. We did experience some breathlessness on the way, but once we reached the top, the effort was truly worth it. The panoramic view of Leh city from the top was stunning, especially during sunset, when the entire landscape looked magical. Many visitors were taking photos and videos, while others were engaged in prayers, adding to the spiritual atmosphere. A must-visit place in Leh, offering both serenity and breathtaking views.
Ashish M — Google review
A must-visit spot in Leh! The views from the top are absolutely breathtaking — you can see the whole city and snow-clad mountains glowing at sunset. The climb has quite a few steps, but it’s totally worth it for the peace and calm you feel once you’re up there. The stupa itself is beautifully maintained, especially in the evening when it’s lit up. A perfect place to sit quietly, reflect, and soak in Ladakh’s serenity.

One the most visited Places when In Leh. I won't speak about the history but some important pointers ... The Stupa is on a high altitude make sure you are wearing appropriate clothing as it blows cold wind , the temples inside need you remove your footwear so make sure you have thick socks to avoid cold feet . The views are beautiful and it's a feeling to be felt . Make sure you move clock wise and not anti clock wise around the structures ... It's based on the concept of the wheel of life etc.... Taking back the beautiful feeling ...❤️

Sankar Monastery, or Sankar Gompa is a Buddhist monastery within an easy half-hour walk from Leh in Ladakh, northern India. It is a daughter-establishment of Spituk Monastery and the residence of the Abbot of Spituk, the Venerable Kushok Bakula, who is the senior incarnate lama of Ladakh due to his ancient lineage and personal authority. It is a relatively modern, attractive cluster of buildings set amongst trees above the town, in the lee of Khardung La,[2] a 5,359 m (17,582 ft) pass behind Leh leading to the Shyok and Nubra Valleys. Only 20 monks at most live here, and only a few permanently, so visiting hours are limited to early morning and evening. The place is well lit, so an evening visit is worthwhile. Climbing the steps one reaches the double doors leading into the dukang (du khang) or assembly hall. Three green drums are on the right of the door under which is the place of the Gyeskos. The wall and entry door are richly painted. Upstairs is the Dukar Lhakang ("residence of the deity") or inner sanctuary. There is an impressive figure here of Avalokiteśvara (Tibetan: Chenrezig) with 1,000 arms (all holding weapons) and 1,000 heads. The walls are painted with a Tibetan calendar, mandalas and rules for the monks. Above the wooden stairs can be seen the rooms of the Abbot, guest rooms and the library. A lama from Sankar Monastery visits the mid-sixteenth century fort built by Tashi Namgyal at Namgyal Tsemo, the peak above Leh every morning and evening to maintain the temples associated with the fort and light the butter-lamps.

Museum: Today, part of the fort houses a museum that showcases artifacts from Zorawar Singh’s life, including weapons, coins, and documents, along with exhibits detailing his military campaigns. Cultural Significance: The fort remains a symbol of Ladakh’s history and its interactions with the Dogra Empire. If you’re visiting Leh, Zorawar Fort offers a glimpse into the region’s military and cultural heritage.

Choglamsar is a beautiful village situated in the Leh Tehsil of Ladakh. Numerous paths lead to Leh town from Choglamsar. It is a beautiful Tibetan refugee settlement known for a children's village and a handicraft centre devoted largely to carpet weaving. The popular places to visit here are The Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, the main training institute for Buddhist monks in Ladakh, His Holiness Dalai Lama's prayer ground, known as Jivatsal is an oasis of peace, and monasteries of Spituk, Sabu and Sankar are an added attractions here. The Central Asian Museum, established in 2011, offers a glimpse into the history of Central Asian trade that significantly influenced Ladakh's development during the Silk Route period. This compact museum was built through collaboration between Tibet Heritage Fund and Anjuman Moin-ul Islam Society to educate both locals and tourists about this pivotal era in Ladakh's history.
A very nice museum from the process of making, the contents, the space and the architecture. I strongly recommend it if you are visiting Leh.
Kullakaln G — Google review
Entry is just ₹50, which makes this one of the most affordable cultural stops in Leh. And for that price, you get a surprisingly thoughtful experience. The museum is small but well put together. It’s not overflowing with exhibits, but what’s there gives you a clear sense of Leh’s history and culture. The building itself is traditional and beautifully lit, spread across four clean, well-organized floors. Best part? The top floor offers a quiet, scenic view, definitely worth the climb.
Nayan D — Google review
Definitely visit this place if you are a history enthusiast and want to know about the history of Ladakh. This place preserves the ancient artefacts of Ladakh and gives you a glimpse of how the nomadic and other tribes of this place existed. It also has many items from the era when the silk route was predominantly used as not only a trade route but an exchange of cultural.

A simple but well-maintained museum. While it doesn’t have a huge collection, it offers enough to understand the history and culture of Leh. The building itself is traditional and beautifully lit, spread across four clean levels. The entrance fee is just ₹50, which is very affordable for the quality of the experience. Highly recommended if you’re in Leh and want a quick yet meaningful cultural stop. Bonus: the top floor offers a calm and scenic view—worth the climb!

A very interesting museum with pictures of the old Leh with trees, and life along with household items from daily life. A small but very nice museum. Absolutely worth a visit when acclimatising or if you just want to know more of the crossroad Leh has been for trade beyond present day pashmina trade
Birthe O — Google review
Visit if you are interested in the history of Central Asia and the silk route. The entry is from a lane in Leh market, find your way through construction rubble to the ticket window and entrance. It has stairs to go up till the fourth floor, and has curated pieces on display. Feels like it still is in progress, some exhibits need more information about the time period and overall history. Amazing views of the Leh palace and Gurdwara and also the mountains. Ticket price was Rs. 50 when I visited.

Genuine shop for jewellery lovers... I highly recommend this shop. I had been in leh - ladakh few months ago and had an amazing experience. I wanted to buy some gemstone jewellery since many gemstones are evacuated from himalaya range.. I went into the shop Himalayan Gems. The staff was very generous, they just not sale but also give a good piece of information about gemstones jewellery, since there are also some Tibetan market who sell fake gemstones Jewelleries... I enjoyed shopping in this shop and so I would like to recommend this shop as the best shop to buy silver and gemstone jewellery.... ☺ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Recently I visited this place. I wanted to buy something as a souvenir to make my trip memorable. No doubt, this store has good variety in gems and jewelry but they are extremely expensive. I bought a necklace and later I came to know that it was priced way too much than its real worth. I know they have to earn for their livings but every business stands on some moral grounds. Initially I was reluctant to buy this piece of jewelry but after seeing the reviews I made up my mind which costed me too much of money. I hope this review will help someone in future.

Ladakh Arts and Media Organisation, also known as LAMO Complex, is a cultural center in Leh that showcases modern Ladakhi art through exhibitions and workshops. It's a great place to immerse yourself in the evolving artistic spirit of Ladakh and even take home a piece of it from the on-site shop. The complex offers magnificent views of Leh Palace and is highly recommended for those interested in art and seeking a peaceful escape from fast-paced life.
LAMO is located in two beautifully restored houses which gives visitors a good understanding of traditional houses in Leh. LAMO also had a very well stocked library with great views where one can spend hours. The souvenir shop has some really cool stuff which are reasonably priced. When I visited LAMO, there was a really interesting exhibition with photographs of Ladakh from the 20th century. I understand that they have regular events and film screenings especially in the summer, so it may be a good idea to watch out for what's happening in the place when one is in Leh. Given its location, there are also gorgeous views of the Leh palace and old town. I also used their publication "Walks in Nubra" when I was in Sumur - the quieter side of Nubra valley. Found it very useful to explore and understand the history and villages of Nubra better. Highly recommend visiting LAMO if you are in Leh.
Annie P — Google review
LAMO centre in the old town of Leh consists of two houses of Munshi and Gyaoo families. These are some of the best remaining examples of domestic vernacular architecture of the 17th Century. Munshi house was the residence of Togoche family who served as secretary in the Ladakhi court. Gyaoo house was the residence of upper rank of court artisans who performed for the king. Both the houses have been restored by LAMO (The Ladakh Arts and Media Organisation) and converted to an arts space with galleries, offices, a library and reading room, screening room, conference room, and open-air performance site

Getting here on foot is a challenge but takes you right through the old town. The sign posted route takes you almost up to the palace. A very nice serious lady took me around the place as there was none else. Some interesting art from local artists in a beautifully restored house of some courtiers. Wonderfully cool even during the hot summer afternoon. ₹100 donation to enter. If you return through the old town you'll find yourself right next to the Central Asian museum which is a great place to recover after the walk.

Perched on a hill overlooking the Sengye Tsangpo Valley, Spituk Gonpa, also known as Spituk Monastery, is a historic Buddhist monastery in Ladakh. Dating back to the 11th century, it houses around a hundred monks and features a striking statue of Kali unveiled during the annual Gustor Festival. The monastery also boasts a museum exhibiting ancient masks, antique arms, icons, and Buddhist paintings.
A wonderful small monastery in Leh. Like all sites - you have to climb here too, as it is located atop a hill. It is peaceful if you wish to sit here for a while and refresh your soul and contemplate. There is a humongous kali goddess's statue, multi-armed, alongwith other deities, all with faces covered. The veils are removed only for two days during the local festival. Photography inside the temple is prohibited.
Jagdish G — Google review
Good small monastery in Leh. Approximately 127 steps climbing required. Beautiful pictures of the monastery and surrounding areas from the top. It is just above the Leh airport.
Mayank D — Google review
Founded around the 11th century, the Spituk Gompa (monastery) is a Buddhist monastery housing about a hundred monks and a giant statue of Kali (unveiled during the annual festival). Every year the Gustor Festival is held at Spituk from the 27th to 29th day in the eleventh month of the Tibetan calendar. There’s also a museum that has a wide collection of ancient masks, antique arms, other icons and numerous thangkas (Buddhist paintings) making it an important attraction in Leh. The best way to reach Spituk Gompa is by hiring a taxi or renting a bike from Leh, which is around 8 km away.
Arun J — Google review
Work is going on the road to the monastery, so car cannot go upto the gate, you need to walk for about 500 mtrs on the steep climb in this high altitude. The airport runway is visible from the monastery, you can watch flights landing. Inside is a Buddhist monastery and a room full of statues of Vairav, yama, and Kali, with face covered.

I'm always septic about the true nature of products in a market/touristic spot, but it might be the only place around with the real deal. Recommended by locals as well. The employee was really helpful as explained the whole process. Never pushy, very insightful. The only other place you can trust is the government agency. Don't buy elsewhere, 99% sure it's fake.

I usually don’t write reviews, but my experience with Nomadic Woollen Mills, Ladakh, deserves to be shared. I ordered a Pashmina shawl from Hyderabad, and the entire process—from enquiry to delivery—was smooth and trustworthy. I especially appreciate Mr. Nawang Phuntsog for his honesty and genuineness. He patiently answered all my questions over the phone and never gave sugar-coated responses just to sell the product. That kind of sincerity is rare and truly commendable. A big thanks to Mr. Santhosh Kanwar as well, for promptly sharing pictures of the shawls and ensuring a hassle-free, peaceful delivery experience. The shawl arrived safely, and the quality is outstanding—soft, authentic, and beautifully crafted. I’m extremely satisfied with both the product and the service. Highly recommended for anyone considering Nomadic Woollen Mills from Ladakh!

My first purchase with Nomadic was a beanie cap and a machine woven stole from Ladakh in-store. The owner Mr. Phuntsog is very helpful, gave us a complete tour of the store, explained us the entire process of making pashmima yarn and also patiently helped us with all our queries. After this I recently purchased another handwoven stole and Mr. Phuntsog as always provided all efforts so that I could decide on what I liked the most, shared snaps and even got on a video call for better understanding. As far as the products are concerned, everything is of top notch quality. In fact, there were instances wherein we tried out other stores while shopping in Ladakh and the salesperson /owner would just glance at the beanie cap and say its of absolute best quality.

Prints don't seem to be genuine, they have all their books wrapped in plastic and so there is no way to look at the print quality. Also, the shop keeper quotes a random price for the books since the cost (in INR) is not printed on the books. I bought one book and the print is of bad quality.

Worst service provider in the whole ladakh I have given some Snambu for dyeing and since I mistakenly brought the slip in my bag out of Ladakh and they refused to provide the material without slip to my family member they told it's written on the slip and yes it was but situation like this could happen with anyone and they should consider customers concerns as I am not falsely claiming anything and provided all the proof and even called up from my own mobile number which was written on the slip but they refused and was very rude and abusive attitude. I mean what kind of service they are providing if customers losses the slip then you don't have any mean to proof yourself. So make sure u keep the slip in the locker coz u may not get ur own material in return if u loose ur slip . Jullay

Women's clothing store
If you're in Leh and on the hunt for high-quality leather jackets, The Leather House is a must-visit. This shop offers a wide range of options, and the owner, Mr. Majid, provides warm hospitality and helpful suggestions. Visitors praise the store for its genuine leather jackets that add style to their experiences in Leh, such as photo shoots at Pangong Lake. Customers appreciate the personal attention and feel good about their purchases, making it a place they look forward to visiting again.
My first visit to Leh.. every one suggested if you want good leather jackets visit The Leather House. True to words, surprised to see the number of option and quality of products. Mr Majid (smiling and welcoming owner) suggested the options were warm and true to the prize we paid. For good quality products will surely visit again in my next trip to leh. The shop can be easily spotted in the market. Do visit if you are in Leh market.
Damini R — Google review
Most rubbish of quality and worst pricing: I won't pay even 1000 for the jacket and he's asking 6k-7k. The salesman is the most misbehaved you'll find. You'll find better quality and price in Delhi or anywhere else
Gerry — Google review
I wish I could give zero stars, here are the reasons: 1. Unsatisfied with quality. 2. They just see customer walk in with good clothes and increase their price. 3. You will obviously find better products at branded stores in Delhi and even at airports. 4. The staff is misleading, telling wrong prices and increasing prices once you are going to pay.
