Mentioned on
4 lists
Nestled in the Great Dividing Range at an elevation of 700 meters, Picnic Point Parklands offers a breathtaking vantage point with panoramic views of the ranges' escarpment and foothills. This 65-hectare park has been a favorite spot for Toowoomba's residents since the 1880s and is listed on the Queensland Heritage Register. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely picnic while taking in the stunning scenery or opt for refreshments at the nearby cafe.
Picnic Point Parklands is the crowning glory of Toowoomba. The amount of wildlife to be seen is something special. There are numerous other park areas and walking tracks on the grounds, as well as BBQ areas, restrooms, and a cafe. This is a must-see when visiting the Toowoomba region.
Cameron — Google review
Stunning park area with a lookout, small waterfall, picnic areas and a restaurant. The park itself is relatively large and there's plenty of different short walks to choose from. The lookout is particularly nice, with views of Table Top Mountain and the surrounding area. Dogs are allowed on leash in the park, including down to the waterfall area and stepping stones. Parking can be quite limited and there's toilet facilities nearby.
Kerbray — Google review
Nice enough place to visit. Probably the most touristy place to visit in town
Wattaman — Google review
A lovely hiking and viewing area. Easy and well marked trails lead to beautiful views. Plenty of parking.
David J — Google review
A stunning view of just about everything! Nice to walk around as well. Scenery is breathtaking. Nice waterfall, kid’s playgrounds and a bandstand that artists and bands play at on weekends. Function centre looks good, great views. Nice day out for the whole family
James D — Google review
This place is beautiful and extremely well maintained, excellent place for a BBQ or a picnic, the view is amazing. There are also multiple walks. The children will be spoilt for choice as there are multiple children parks which are all in good condition.
Gareth W — Google review
Wonderful spot for a picnic like the name suggests. You get a beautiful view of the surroundings as this is the highest spot in Toowoomba. Also has a lovely little restaurant with the same amazing view as you eat. It is also excellent for hikes that last around 45 mins and it even has a trail where you can ride your bike.
Edmond P — Google review
Gorgeous relaxation and picnic spot - tucked down a little footpath to the left of the first carpark when you pull into the lookout entrance.

Amazing fun, well marked MTB tracks. There are many tracks to choose from, for all levels of experience and skill. Jubilee MTB Park is 1 of 2 large MTB parks in Toowoomba, the other being Mt. Peel.

Highfields Falls, located just a short drive north of Toowoomba, offers a delightful experience for nature enthusiasts and bird watchers. The park features well-maintained walking tracks through eucalypt forest, with options like the Bowerbird and Cuckoo-Dove walks as well as circuits named after local birds. Visitors can enjoy the sight of a small waterfall accessible from both the top and base, along with opportunities for excellent birdwatching.
Nice quick walk down a track that's steep in places. Small water falls and nice surroundings.
Glenn P — Google review
Nice walk through the bush. Only about a ten minute walk to the falls. Good place for a short visit
MP 2 — Google review
Highfields falls is a great little hideaway for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts which is a fairly easy walk along the dirt tracks. Great spot for bird photography without long hikes into the bush and is close to Toowoomba and Highfields. Note you cannot swim at the Falls it is more of a visual and nature enthusiast area.
Melanie A — Google review
Nice tracks, mostly just soil, some rocks, can be a lil muddy the water fall is a bit disappointing bahahah but still lovely scenery and good for a walk around
Hayley K — Google review
A nice easy walk to get you immersed in nature without a trek. I think other reviews were a bit harsh. This is not a big national park, so not to expect grand waterfalls. Nice enough waterfall surrounded by greenery! Great bush walk for anyone who wants to get amongst nature without driving too far from town
Selena L — Google review
Always a beautiful walk, plenty of birds. They have recently cleared a lot of weeds which is amazing but fewer places for birds to hide and dance. Probably best not to visit again for birding until spring when things grow back. Out thr back paddock might still be ok.
Hanna L — Google review
A nice destination for a short walk. A creek passes through the walk and a little waterfall. Plenty of overlaps with fire-roads if you wanna make your hike longer.
Mehrad A — Google review

Table Top Mountain Carpark is the starting point for an exhilarating hiking experience up Table Top Mountain. Located at the base of the Great Dividing Range, this mountain offers a flat and treeless summit that presents breathtaking panoramic views of the Lockyer Valley and Toowoomba's eastern escarpment. While reaching the top can be challenging, hikers are rewarded with stunning vistas of the region. The car park is accessible via a somewhat rough road, but it is manageable even for small cars.
Great car park. However the walk is extremely difficult. Decided it was safer to turn around.
Jim A — Google review
One way pretty patchy road to get here, gravel car park and gravel road at the end but my small car did it fine. No water available or any reatrooms

Scenic Walking Areas
Lookouts
Mount Peel is an urban peak with a bushland reserve that serves as a habitat for koalas and kangaroos. The area offers various activities such as hiking, biking, and equestrian trails. The Mount Peel Loop is a moderate trail providing scenic views close to Toowoomba, while the Picnic Point Circuit offers panoramic views of the city and surrounding areas. Visitors can enjoy stunning vistas over Drayton, Westbrook, and Toowoomba City from the summit.
I enjoyed my little hike through here, can be a bit of a scramble at times. Sometimes its not as well marked as you would want it to be. The fire walking tracks aren't included in walk length so it can be longer than expected. Unfortunately lots of lantana and cactuses throughout hike.
Hayley K — Google review
Mount Peel - I loved it! I went there to met the most beautiful talented photographer Katy. I went there to have 39 weeks on Saturday, feel safe and comfortable to have beautiful maturity photos. Took 20-30 mins then leave after. Lmao we did it after rain stop until the rain started, we all have to go.
Queen X — Google review
Fantastic walking, hiking, trail running, biking and horse riding park. The park has been expanded lately and there are even more lookouts with benches and additional bike riding tracks with jumps. The park is well signed and the tracks are well maintained. There are two main and rather large parkings at the start of the tracks.
Mehrad A — Google review
Views over Drayton, Westbrook and further afield to Toowoomba City in the distance. There are no signs directing you to the summit so you just need to follow your nose to the top. The track is quite loose and gets steep at one point but anyone with a reasonable level of fitness will make it up without too much difficulty. There is a small carpark at the start of Westminster Street which will take about 30 minutes to walk up Mount Peel from. Follow the road until you reach the Mount Peel Bushlands entrance gate (which you can also park at if you want to shorten tour walk by 5-10 minutes). Continue along a dirt track and keep left at the fork. You'll reach the base of the hill from the north. Navigate the path round to the right which will dip then start the climb. There's a few benches and a picnic table at the top for a much deserved rest. There are other paths and tracks around the Bushlands so do some exploring if you're that way inclined. I saw a few kangaroos on my walk, scared the life out of me when they went bounding into the wilderness from a few metres away! Hope this is useful.
HZuckermann — Google review
Great walking tracks with a great view overlooking some farmland. Lots of trees and wildlife as well.
Jordyn W — Google review
Great variety of hiking, mountain biking and horse riding tracks. Fantastic views of the surrounding areas.
Scouter T — Google review
3 different lookouts went to here all very impressive! Quite easy to walk, well marked out tracks
Val ( — Google review
Quick walk to the top amazing views just keep going to the right due to unsigned tracks or explore the fire trails

Hiking Trails
Glen Lomond Park, located in Middle Ridge, offers a serene environment with trails suitable for walking, biking, and horseback riding. The park features a variety of trails ranging from moderate to challenging levels. Despite being close to Toowoomba CBD, the park provides a tranquil and remote feel. The Hell Hole Track and Falls Walk offer stunning views of Table Top Mountain and the surrounding range.
climbed up through the bushes on slippery sandy dirt holding on ochre and grassroots getting cut up by thorns and stinging nettle and getting hit by small boulders let off by my mate on the way up. beautiful place though. beautiful

Went on the track 4. It was nice pretty flat walk then picnic tables with amazing view! Recommended!
Saki — Google review
Easy trail most of the way, but can just pick your own path as you get close to the falls. Would recommend, good adventure
Daniel D — Google review
Will be great once improvement works are completed. Update : Picnic tables and water tanks have been built on the clearing, making it a great place to come watch the sunrise over the Lockyer Valley. At the moment there is water flowing over Hell Hole falls
Michael J — Google review
Great for an afternoon walk
Jason H — Google review
Easy enough little trails, didn't do the whole thing only going out to just past spur trail as it was pretty muddy
Hayley K — Google review
Great option for multiple hikes and an option to hike all the way down to the base of a waterfall. Make sure you have water and appropriate clothing and hats if you wanna do the whole lot on a sunny day. The hike back up could be very taxing if you're not prepared. Check the AllTrails app for the correct routes. Also some picnic stations are available, however not at the start of the trail.
Mehrad A — Google review
Beautiful scenery over the valley as you walk around the perimeter of the park, with a few short forays deeper in. The Hell Hole Falls trail goes down into the bowl, a 3 hour return trip if you're feeling adventurous. Tracks aren't that well developed, but you have the feeling of full immersion in nature, with an abundance of birdlife. A few nice picnic areas have been cleared among the trees along the trail to stop and rest.

Hiking area
Mount Peel Bushland, located near Drayton, offers 7km of beginner-friendly trails for walking, hiking, trail running, biking, and horse riding. The park has recently expanded to include more lookouts with benches and additional bike riding tracks with jumps. While the tracks are well signed and maintained, some areas have overgrown grass and rocky terrain. Despite this, the park provides beautiful views and a serene atmosphere just a few kilometers away from the city.
Tracks were not as marinated as you would hope, with long over grown grass. South lookout track very rocky at stages on the loops. Fire track paths well maintained . Nice spot overall
Hayley K — Google review
A valuable site located close to the urban area. It can serve a valuable role in protecting bushland and wildlife, while at the same time catering for recreational activities. Reading other comments I see a bit of criticism of council for the weeds and management issues but it is necessary to give this site time to recover from years of grazing. The ecological processes are slow. Great to see the preparations for expansion of tree plantings in the grassy areas near the car park. Community needs to support the council in this work.
Iean R — Google review
Easy climb, beautiful views. As you hike you can see how much work is needed to remove all the weeds you stumble across, aka alien plant species.
Pawel W — Google review
Great walking tracks, great views, and fantastic mountain bike trails. Very well maintained.
Jason B — Google review
Ugh! Yet another Toowoomba Region park that is all for the people, not for the environment. Council's approach to weed control seems to be to blitz everything, exotics and natives alike. The disturbance is merely promoting the exotic grasses like Gatton panic. Inappropriate clearing on the hill tops for sake of views has removed some of the most rare and interesting native dry scrub species that once existed there. The scree slopes on Mt. Peel were once covered in interesting native species like Hoya and orchids. Today all gone - just covered in green panic and Lantana. What an environmental disgrace this park is, but very typical of the poor management being offered by local Councils out in the back blocks who have no idea what they are doing.
Grey G — Google review
Love this place. Highly effective for bushwalks, sunset viewing, and marriage proposals. Would visit again.

Redwood Bridle Trail is a picturesque and relaxing walking trail that offers incredible views of Picnic Point and Tabletop. The trail features well-maintained flat ground, with some more challenging sections for adventurous hikers. It's a hidden gem with fantastic birding and wildlife sighting opportunities, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely walk or picnic.
Wow. The views here are just incredible. Walking the Redwood Forest Walk was just so relaxing and the views of Picnic Point and Tabletop are breathtaking. Photos can't do it justice so you'll have to trust and go on a nice clear morning and see for yourself. I will say that it is pretty steep in some sections and it is recommended to abide by the rating set at the trail head. (Walking down is better). The bridle trail was super fun to do ona bike as it is pretty free and very steep to gather lots of speed. Recommended entry level mountain bike and a decent amount of experience as you go quite fast and can easily lose control if you are not careful.
Benjamin C — Google review
Beautiful park area. Most walking tracks are well maintained, flat ground. There are some more challenging trails that have grown over or have uneven rocky terrain for the adventurous. Tables and chairs available for picnics. Fantastic birding and wild life sighting opportunities. Dogs allowed- on leash only at time of posting.
Savannah — Google review
Great walk way n trails. I don’t know why very few people walk on this trail. Its like a hidden gem. An absolute peace. The view of table top mountain from a different angle. I like sitting there n enjoy the whispers of birds. It’s surreal and mind calming. There are multiple trails in this forest.
Prabesh B — Google review

Nice trail but is pretty steep at the entries and overrun with weeds like cactus in spots. Trail is clear and cut. We’ve spotted some critters like rock wallabies, lizards, bush turkeys. Wallabies love the field below the gutter run (spot the wallaby in the last photo)
