Natadera Temple, founded in 717 by a monk named Taicho, is an ancient Buddhist temple nestled in the mountains and dedicated to the worship of Mt. Hakusan. The temple's main hall is built inside a natural cave where a statue of Kannon Bodhisattva was placed centuries ago. The temple grounds convey reverence for nature, with structures carved into the rocky landscape and surrounded by breathtaking scenery including a picturesque cliff designated as one of Japan's National Places of Scenic Beauty.
Amazing place with few tourists. Be careful if you go on weekday, there are few buses or nothing at all, I had to walk for an hour back to the station but worth it.

Great memory visiting here, very quiet temple in the mountains. the stone carving and garden is amazing. worthy the name of national treasure. the raining adds the misty atmosphere, save one star for next visiting.
Armond C — Google review
This is an amazing place. It’s spectacular and tranquil at the same time. I highly recommend that you take time out of your schedule to visit this temple and it surrounds. You will not be disappointed. We went mid-week in the morning and it was not crowded, but based on the size of the car park, you might imagine that it can get rather busy.

Beautiful, scenic, historical, and quiet temple. This is one of the more well-maintained and immersive temple I’ve been to. But, considering the admission price (¥1000) and the infrequent bus to this place, it’s just a bit inconvenient. Amazing place though, if I can drive, definitely would return here.
Natanael K — Google review
A very nice and huge temple. The view from the inside is amazing, best season to visit is in fall. For me its like the small version of one of the kyoto’s great temples. The best season to visit is in fall, you will love the colorful leaves that covers the temple which makes it more gorgeous and beautiful 🍁🍂
Dodo — Google review
Such a beautiful place. We went here by bus. Please make sure to check in advance the schedules since they only have limited times available per day. It was really worth the trip. Very nice staffs too. If you love nature, you will definitely love this place. It was so serene & mesmerizing. I especially loved the Kigan Yuusenkyou, Inarisha area. The temple was also very beautiful. Also got a Goshuin. Would love to revisit again someday. I really enjoyed our time here.

Rojo Park, located next to the city hall in Komatsu, was once part of the outermost area of Komatsu Castle. It has been transformed into a traditional Japanese strolling garden with charming tree-lined landscaped gardens featuring ponds, waterfalls, bridges, and lanterns. The park is especially beautiful during cherry blossom season and offers a tea house and museums for visitors to enjoy. In autumn, the park's ancient trees create a tranquil atmosphere perfect for leisurely walks.
Very nice park in Komatsu. very relaxing, and if you visit this place during spring, there will be quite a few people selling food around the park 😊
Novita C — Google review
Such a beautiful park. It was very clean & relaxing. Enjoyed seeing the Wisteria too. There were museums nearby but sadly it was closed during our visit. Enjoyed walking around this park.
Aibi Y — Google review
Rojo Park is around 10 minute walking from Komatsu station. It is a peaceful place for a relaxing walk. There are small ponds with Koi fish, trees with shades perfect for a stroll. There are also small brooks which help bring calm feeling.

The Ishikawa Aviation Plaza is a vast museum that showcases an extensive collection of planes, helicopters, and jet fighters. Visitors can enjoy flight simulators and observe modern Japanese military planes along with airplane models representing the evolution of aviation. An indoor children's playground also offers a substantial range of attractions for kids to explore. This well-equipped facility is located along the Ishikawa Prefecture seacoast, making it an excellent destination for families seeking affordable entertainment while traveling in the area.
A must visit place for aircraft lovers. It is near Komatsu Airport and the entrance is free. There were a lot of aircrafts on display on the 1st floor and a big plaground for kids. Dont forget to go to the 2nd floor as well since they have more aircraft related display there. Enjoyed the photo spots inside too.
Aibi Y — Google review
Just 5 mins walk from Komatsu airport. Free parking and entry. You can play the flight simulators for a fee. Many families with kids seem to visit here for kids playgrounds.
H I — Google review
For 500 yen you can get a flight simulator round trip session with an experienced instructor, on a YS11. There is a large playground for children, a showcase of small jets, airplane parts and models. Very few people come here. When we went, admission was free. Regards to parking, don’t park your car on the paid parking lots as you will have to pay 1000 yen.
Lucas L — Google review
Great little stop for any aviation fan great small collection of aircraft aswell as a kids playground and it’s all free
Scott R — Google review
Not a big scale exhibition but definitely worth a visit, good for families. There is a playground for kids and quite a lot of nice aircraft models. I was fortunated enough to meet an retired air fighter pilot worked as a volunteer there briefed me knowledges about various aircrafts and air fighters.

Free admission, there's also a planw where you can experience what it feels like in a cockpit.

There are some modern Japanese military planes on display here, along with a large collection of airplane models that cover the entire history of flight. Also, there is a large flight simulator located here. The part my family liked the best is the huge indoor children's playground. It's probably the best playground in the entire area.

Been here to have fun as a family with a kid. Very much enjoyable and probably the child has to be well aged to have passion for aviation. But still enjoyable for those who grown up as well.

The Motorcar Museum of Japan is a must-visit for car enthusiasts, housing around 500 classic cars from various eras and origins. The museum showcases lineages of classic Japanese cars like Toyota and Nissan, as well as renowned international brands such as Rolls-Royce and Mercedes-Benz. Visitors can marvel at rare specimens that once belonged to royalty, appeared in films or anime, and even a Doraemon-shaped solar car. The collection is constantly refreshed, offering an exciting surprise with each visit.
There are so many cars, a large space and three floors of vehicles from 1900-1990s. Such as a whole row of Skyline GTR generations, informations on the history of Japanese car companies, and other car brands from around the world. Access is a bit secluded in the suburbs but easy to reach by car (ironic right?) Pricing Adult ¥1200 Child ¥600
Lucas L — Google review
There are many car brands and models here, especially classic ones that look beautiful and unique. However, it might be better if the display were more visually appealing. Since the place has three floors, simply lining up the cars by brand makes it look a bit old and dusty — which is a missed opportunity. Ticket costs 1,200 jpy
Piraya M — Google review
We went on a weekday. It was not too crowded. The restaurant was closed when we visited. The place was spacious and it was really filled with cars. Car enthusiast will definitely enjoy this place. The Doraemon & panda car was so cute! Enjoyed looking around.
Aibi Y — Google review
We had a fantastic time seeing all the various cars and trucks. We went about two hours before closing, and were able to see the whole place, but would have liked to have spent a little more time there. A wide range of vehicles from around the world with the majority from Japan. We really appreciated the “common” cars that would have otherwise been forgotten by time.
Zombie H — Google review
What an exceptional find! We had just come from the Komatsu no mori and just randomly found this museum with more than 500 cars from all shapes, sizes, models, eras... My husband is a car guy and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Although, I didn't see a Mustang II in there so I question the legitimacy... 🤣. I kid. It was awesome. Even the toilets were vintage!
Pipi G — Google review
Not sure it was worth the cost of admission or time spent here. Maybe if I was Japanese some of the cars would have more meaning. The cars aren't displayed in an interesting way, they're just jammed in next to each other. We've visited other car museums and this one wasn't great. If you do decide to go, make sure you visit the bathrooms to see toilets from different countries (not sure how that relates to cars, but it was funny).
Alex A — Google review
Very interesting collection of cars Beautiful architecture 2x 2000GTs and a 300SL Gullwing were a surprise A Jza80 Rz and a R34 GTR would finish off the collection nicely though
2jz J — Google review
Compressive collection of Japanese cars, bikes, vans, Kei vehicles. Some European and American cars. The museum is spread over three levels, plus some larger trucks in the car park. Tickets are cash only, the shop accepts card.

Yunokuni no Mori, also known as Kaga Traditional Crafts Village, is a charming spot in Kaga, Ishikawa that offers a glimpse into traditional Japanese crafts. The village features thatched buildings and picturesque natural surroundings, making it an ideal location for sightseeing and photography. Visitors can engage in various hands-on experiences such as glassblowing and paper making, with opportunities to observe demonstrations and create their own crafts.
Recommend very much to everyone. A lot of traditional Japanese skill set and art work. It’s a shame not many people know nor publish on the tourist information

A very intersting village that has several traditional craft activities available. They also have several cute photo spots. They also sell a lot of cute stuffs worth checking. We were only able to stay here for less than an hour since the last bus schedule was early. Despite the short time. We enjoyed our stay here.

A very nice place to visit especially for couples.there are workshops and you can join to make your own crafts for experience. We went on a rainy day and they provide a free umbrella to use( must return) the place is so beautiful. I recommend this place to foreigners you can see the cultural beauty of Kaga City💖🩷❤️

Fun art experience. Activities take about 20 minutes each and are geared towards kids but fun for adults too. The setup is nice with a small garden and traditional houses. Great to do if you are in the area. We did gold leaf and washi paper. Staff are friendly.

This is a great place to learn about and experience traditional Japanese crafts. It’s laid out like a village with shops where you can make something. It’s not cheap. But, it’s worth the cost. My husband, who doesn’t like crafts, liked this place so much, we went two Saturdays in a row. It’s best to get there early so you can make the crafts you want before it closes. The crafts stop at 3:30pm. The village closes at 4:30pm. The bathrooms were pretty cool. They were like mini museums.

A good place to learn and appreciate Japanese traditional arts and crafts. Experience programmes in most workshops. Lots of souvenirs to shop for. Many places to eat and enjoy drinks, and to take nice photos. Good for families and can spend a whole day here.
Andrew S — Google review
This is a very interesting place to view as well as learn handicrafts. Each craft is in a traditional structure and you can buy them as well. There are classes in glass blowing, gold leading, lacquer, stencil painti g etc. There are also two restaurants and a small kiosk for food. The place is not crowded at all (maybe because we went on a weekday) and gives you a very relaxed and quiet feeling away from the bustle of the big city. If you enjoy crafts then this place is for you. And if you don't you can just relax.

Ataka Sumiyoshi Shrine is a must-visit spot in Ishikawa Prefecture, conveniently located just a 5-minute drive from Komatsu Airport. This historical shrine is known for its gods who protect those facing life's challenges. History enthusiasts will be intrigued by its connection to Minamoto no Yoshitsune's escape and the nearby Ataka Checking Station. The shrine offers a serene atmosphere with stunning views of the river mouth and the sea.
combined with a walk on the beach located directly next to this charming shrine can make for a fine couple of hours (or a day if you visit the museum which is highly recommend doing). The ocean breeze can be felt from within the temple grounds and the priestess is friendly and all are dressed in formal attire. if you are staying in the Komatsu area I would highly recommend paying a visit for a laid back afternoon this is as good a spot as any there is no entrance fee on top of that! It is also near Natadera Temple to create the perfect daytrip from Komatsu Station include both Atakasumiyoshi Shrine and Natadera Temple and I promise you won't regret it.

It is a Sumiyoshi Shrine, so it is a branch shrine of Sumiyoshi Taisha. It was built 1,200 years ago and moved to its current location in 1647. It has been revered as a key location on land and sea. You have to climb a few stone steps to get to the grounds. There is a statue of Benkei within the grounds. The site of Ataka Barrier has been turned into a park. There is a large parking lot. (Translated by Google) Ataka Sumiyoshi Shrine The site of Ataka Barrier is located within the shrine grounds. It is famous for the play "Kanjincho" by Musashibo Benkei. Based on the legend of the Kanjincho, the shrine is said to have been highly inspired and is known as the god of overcoming obstacles. The shrine is located north of Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, north of Komatsu Airport, facing the Sea of Japan. While being pursued by Yoritomo's forces, Minamoto no Yoshitsune fled to Hiraizumi in Oshu. He was suspected by the magistrate Togashi at Ataka Barrier, but managed to escape and make his way to Hiraizumi. This legend has led to the shrine being considered a source of inspiration for overcoming obstacles. Behind the shrine, out to sea, you'll find statues of Yoshitsune, Benkei, and magistrate Togashi. You'd have to be a pretty serious fan of Japanese legendary history to find this monument worth a look, but the statues are impressive enough. This site is reputed to be the location of a border/tax gate set up to control the flow of people going north, and is the legendary setting for an episode in 1187 that's been immortalized in kabuki plays and Akira Kurosawa movies (although, supposedly, the real barrier gate has long since been swallowed up by the encroaching sea, but whatever -- nobody really cares about details like that nowadays!) Like many sites, it's worth a stop if you're passing by, but unless you already know the story or have some other reason for going here, it's unlikely you'll be impressed...

(Translated by Google) There's a beautiful pine forest along the coast near Komatsu Airport. It seems quite large, and I felt a similar atmosphere to Kehi no Matsubara. This is the checkpoint featured in the kabuki play "Kanjincho," in which Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Benkei, from the late Heian period, somehow pass through thanks to the kindness of the barrier guard, Togashi. The three bronze statues lined up at the site of the checkpoint are worth seeing. The story of Kanjincho goes roughly like this: ↓ Pursued by his brother, Minamoto no Yoritomo, Minamoto no Yoshitsune disguises himself as a mountain ascetic and flees to Hiraizumi in Oshu. On his way, he is spotted by the barrier guard, Togashi, at Ataka Barrier. Benkei excuses himself by claiming to be collecting donations (kanjin) for the reconstruction of Todaiji Temple, and recites a false Kanjincho using a scroll he happens to have with him. In response, Togashi was impressed by Benkei's false fundraising letter and allowed him to pass, but when Yoshitsune, dressed as a mountain ascetic, tried to pass through the barrier, his subordinates raised the suspicion that he might be Yoshitsune. Benkei realized that his lord, Yoshitsune, was being suspected, and to clear the suspicion, he immediately struck Yoshitsune with his kongo staff. Moved by Benkei's loyalty, Togashi decided that if Benkei was the kind of person who would strike his lord, he could not be Yoshitsune. He then planned to let Yoshitsune and his entourage go, and while Benkei was dancing, Yoshitsune and his entourage were able to pass through Ataka Barrier safely.

Hanibe Caves is a unique sculpture gallery located inside a cave in the Komatsu countryside of Japan. The entrance is marked by a 15-meter-tall Buddha-head statue, which was constructed as an expression of peace by a local master sculptor after the post-war period. As you drive through the country road, this gigantic Buddha head suddenly appears and it's still a work in progress.
This place was incredibly unique, and a really cool experience. It's dark and creepy, and super fun. The entrance fee is minimal.

Hanibe Caves - A Winter Wonderland Visiting Hanibe Caves in Ishikawa during the snow was an absolutely magical experience. The snowy landscape added a beautiful and serene touch to the already impressive grounds. The entrance fee is ¥600, which is quite reasonable considering the unique experience. Additionally, there's free parking, which is always a bonus. If you're in Ishikawa, I highly recommend a visit to Hanibe Caves, especially in the winter when the snow creates a breathtaking atmosphere. 🫶🏻

It is an interesting place, it has a huge Buddha head (17m) and a "demon cave" where you find statues and art. I wouldn't recommend going with kids, can be scary for them. Not many people when we visited, just another couple.

The Kanjincho Museum is a dedicated space that tells the legendary story of Kanjincho, which has been adapted into one of Japan's 18 Best Kabuki Plays. Located near the Ataka Sumiyoshi Shrine, it offers a deep dive into the history of the play and Komatsu's kabuki tradition. Visitors can explore actual costumes, enjoy a virtual theater experience, and engage in interactive activities such as trying on costumes and makeup to strike their own kabuki poses.
Great exhibits and interactive features. You pose in front of the screen and the computer dresses you in kabuki costumes and shows your face with kabuki makeup. Fun for kids too.

Nestled near Komatsu Station, Science Hills Komatsu is a strikingly modern science museum that resembles rolling hills. Opened in March 2014, this venue offers an engaging experience for visitors of all ages with its interactive exhibits and a captivating dome-shaped planetarium. One standout feature is the Wonderland exhibit, which creatively connects local industries to scientific education.
Such a fun place to visit. The entrance is free but there is a fee for the planetarium. Make sure to check for the time schedules available for the planetarium. There were many educational and fun activities inside. You can also enjoy exploring the area outdoor. You can take the stairs outside to the rooftop and enjoy the view of Komatsu. They even have a challenge wall. Loved the fun design of the building. Enjoyed our time here.

More an advertisement for Komatsu Co. A few displays are interesting. For the non Japanese speaker it is a bit limited. Probably more designed to cater for the obligatory bus loads of school children on school excursion s and the occasional corporate seminar. As noted below my child also found the climbing wall on the outside to be the most interest experience. I took the poor placement of undersized whale shaped wind turbines that were constantly swivelling to catch the gusts of wind as further evidence that Japan does not understand wind power.

Kibagata Park is such a great spot to unwind and enjoy nature. It honestly feels like a little slice of paradise. The whole place is super clean and well-organized, and the grass is perfectly maintained—it really shows how well they take care of it. It’s an awesome place to just walk around, breathe in the fresh air, and relax. You’ll see people jogging, playing soccer, canoeing, and doing other outdoor sports. One side of the park has this beautiful lake view that’s so calming, and the other side has a stunning mountain backdrop. The whole vibe is really peaceful. I’d totally give this place 5 stars. The Komatsu City Museum offers a museum pass with eligibility for visitors. The entrance to the Gate of Komatsu Castle provides an authentic experience. It allows citizens of Komatsu and the surrounding area to explore their familiar history firsthand. Reading the displays thoroughly enhances the unexpected enjoyment. The museum showcases a variety of stones, which can be truly appreciated by those interested in Komatsu stones. Additionally, it hosts various exhibitions such as the recent Komahobi 2018 models exhibition.
(Translated by Google) Visited in December 2023 I learned a lot about the history of Komatsu City through the interesting exhibits. There were also plenty of limited-time exhibitions, and we had a great time. P.S. I was surprised by the news on April 20, 2024. Apparently it has been decided that the building will be demolished. It's a shame as I was looking forward to visiting again! Thank you very much for everything. (Translated by Google) A good museum that covers the history and geology of Komatsu. The second floor is an exhibition about history, mainly about Toshitsune Maeda and Komatsu Castle. On the third floor, there will be exhibits related to Komatsu's stone culture (Takigahara stone), minerals and rocks originating from Mt. Hakusan. The exhibition space is small, but I get the impression that the main points have been kept to a minimum and the exhibition is well organized. Personally, I would like to see a more detailed explanation of Takigaharaishi (arched bridges, etc.), and I would also like to see an explanation of Komatsu and other aspects of the city as an industrial city. Ogoya Mine Museum is a historic site with roots dating back to the 17th century. Despite facing numerous challenges, it emerged as one of the top copper producers in Japan by 1920. The Yokoyama family, known as the 'Copper Kings of Hokuriku,' managed the mine. Visitors can explore well-preserved tunnels and learn about the area's mining history through exhibits on ores, tools, and the Ogoya district.
(Translated by Google) I found out about this place on social media and went there. The admission fee to the museum includes a ride on the trolley train that runs through the mine, but I had to wait a bit when I went around noon. If you want to go without waiting, I recommend going in the morning! It was quite cool inside the mine, and it felt great at this time of year. However, the trolley train only runs once a month, so I recommend checking in advance. It is a small museum located in the mountains. You can see the equipment used in the old mines. The best part of the museum is the outdoor mine site. It is cool even in summer. It is a very mysterious space, so take your time and enjoy it. It is interesting to see how the miners were in those days recreated with the miners' dolls. The staff is very kind and will answer any questions you may have. This is a great place where not many tourists visit, so if you are tired of the major tourist attractions, please stop by.
