The Augusta Museum of History is a treasure trove of Augusta's rich heritage and culture, spanning over 12,000 years. It showcases rare books, photographs, and exhibits that delve into the city's military history and honor local legends like James Brown and Aquilla James Dyess. The museum also highlights the region's connection with golf.
Just learning about the history of Augusta and surrounding area would be plenty, but you also get a great history of the sport of golf, and a tribute to the "hardest working man in show business", James Brown!!! There is so much on display, and how it is laid out brings surprises at each corner. Some of the displays are interactive. My photos try to capture the most significant things, but certainly not all. There is also a self-guided audio tour that can be accessed using your smartphone.

I really enjoyed this museum. Great history of Augusta, a cool James Brown exhibit, and a wonderful room showcasing the history of golf. I would definitely recommend stopping by for a couple of hours if you are in town.
Paul V — Google review
Was a very nice experience especially if you like museums about local history and culture, some of my wife’s family live in Augusta and we visit occasionally. They have plenty of interactive and interesting things to do, they also have an audio tour that you just use a QR code with your phone, was very clean and so where the restrooms. They also has some nice souvenirs.
Cory Y — Google review
This place was really nice for $5 a person. Like definitely underpriced for how much you get out of the museum. But this place is so nice and has so much to look at. I loved the little artifacts about James Brown, I had no clue he was from Augusta Georgia. Yeah anyways definitely stop by this place
Mux.llary A — Google review
Massive curation of Augusta history, golf, and James Brown! Theres a full size train and trolley car! Don’t skip the free audio tour, and bring your own Penny for the press machine!
Amanda J — Google review
All I know of Augusta is that it's the home of the Masters, it's on the Savannah River, it's downtown has seen better days, and that is perfectly half way between Beaufort SC and Atlanta GA. Now that I've visited the Augusta Museum of History I know a lot more about the town and the people it has produced, primarily it's native son James Brown. But there's a lot more to the region, from Native American settlers to riverboats to trains. I'm fact there's a full size engine right in the museum. If your looking for a good overview of the town and the region the Augusta Mission of History is the perfect place to get it in a couple of hours. After the museum, walk the Riverwalk and then through the town to see all the places you just learned about and experience the resilience of the townspeople as the celebrate their heritage.
Jason L — Google review
I thought this was a fantastic museum, with well thought out exhibits covering everything Augusta from the first settlers (15,000 years ago) to more current luminaries.
Kat — Google review
Me and my wife came here last minute for a day out and we learned a lot about Augusta’s history, which was very interesting. This place is worth a visit.

The Boyhood Home of President Woodrow Wilson, located in Augusta, Georgia, is a well-preserved 1859 manse that offers guided tours and exhibits on the life of President Wilson. The museum inside the home features recreated settings from Wilson's childhood using period furniture and artifacts. Visitors can immerse themselves in history and gain insight into the formative years of Woodrow Wilson through informative guided tours that detail his childhood experiences and their influence on his later policies as President.
Greeted as we entered by a volunteer and welcomed. Offered a cupcake since it was President Wilson’s birthday was a nice surprise. Another volunteer Gene, provided an accurate picture of the era along with interesting facts about President Woodrow Wilson’s childhood and family life.
E 1 — Google review
Best known for his leadership in World War I and subsequent development of the League of Nations (which became the United Nations), this home, and Augusta, is where Woodrow Wilson spent most of his formative years. This home was once the Manse for the First Presbyterian Church, of which "Tommy's" father was the Pastor. Next door was the home of Joseph Lamar, who later became an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Tommy and Joseph played baseball together as is shown on the team roster that Tommy wrote. Enlarge my photos for a closer look. The guide provided useful and helpful information and I highly recommend you inquire about the dates and times for a tour.

Really enlightening experience! New to the area and wanted to get a feel for things. The council does an awesome job with everything! There are some great museums in the area, feels super underrated. We were the only people, which made the experience personal and interactive. The tour was about an hour long, not rushed through. Everything is placed so perfectly, you almost feel like you’re stepping back in time to take a peek in the past.
Sarah — Google review
This was an awesome place to tour. Very informative tour and tour guide. I highly recommend it if you are in town and have time. Only 10 bucks for adults. And lots of historical information. Don't recommend little ones unless they are highly supervised. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Jarrod H — Google review
Top notch presentation. After driving down from the other Wilson home in Columbia, South Carolina, where the guide seemed either distracted or ignorant of the pieces throughout the museum (mostly reading from the signs), it was nice to see a strong, insightful guide who knew almost every inch of the Augusta house, someone who was prepared, friendly, and eloquent. Honestly, if Wilson were alive to see how his childhood home in Augusta was being curated, I think he’d be proud.
Jeremy L — Google review
This visit turned out to be MUCH better than we expected. We needed a day trip from Greenville,SC. We wanted to fly our little plane somewhere within a 1 hour flight time. We decided to fly to Augusta to visit Wilson's childhood home. The general aviation airport, KDNL was great and close to downtown. The FBO has courtesy cars but we wanted to be away longer than they permit. We took Uber ($11.00) to the Woodrow Wilson childhood home. SO NICE. Great introductory video.! Even better personal guide. The home was in beautiful condition. We both thought we knew Wilson's background pretty well but the visit brought really interesting facts to our attention. We want to go back to Augusta and spend the night . There were some interesting hotels and bars. Highly recommend.. especially for pilots and their families. Thank you Stephanie. ( Guide at the museum and home)
Stephen F — Google review
What a wonderful experience! We learned so much about Woodrow Wilson as we toured this beautiful home. Stephanie, our tour guide, was so informative and so articulate as she guided us. Evert adult visiting Augusta should visit this wonderful home. More amazing, the guided tour only costs $5.00 ($4.00 for seniors). We loved it!

Found when I had some time to while away in Augusta. Museum staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. Tours are a deal at $5, and I learned some interesting history about this president and the city!

Nestled just a stone's throw from downtown Augusta, Phinizy Swamp Nature Park is an expansive 1,100-acre haven that invites nature lovers to explore its rich biodiversity. With 14 miles of well-maintained hiking and biking trails, along with boardwalks and observation points, visitors can fully immerse themselves in the stunning landscapes. This park serves as both a recreational space and a research facility for the Phinizy Center for Water Sciences, making it an educational experience as well.
This is a great nature lover's trail in Augusta. Love the scenery, 5+ mile walks and swampy appearance. But caution, you do see alligators and may even encounter one on your path. We saw a big one!!!
Jeff W — Google review
Favorite place. Snakes are rare to see but are there. Tons of gators, turtles more in the fall. Kids love coming on hikes with me as well.
Amber S — Google review
Settled in 1778 by Victor Francois Phinizy, an Italian entrepreneur, this beautiful wetland area has a long history. He saw this unique territory as a great business opportunity and an attractive place to live. Over time, the area took on different roles, including cattle pastures and farming fields. In 1973 the city of Augusta acquired the land for use as a tertiary treatment stage for the nearby water treatment plant. Eventually, the Phinizy Center for Water Sciences was established, conducting research in watershed management and river basin ecology and focusing on impacts to the Savannah River and tributaries. The silos are all that remain of the Phinizy farmstead. Now everyone can enjoy this beautiful and historic place. Check out the visitor center and take home something to remember your visit. For reviews of other parks and more, click on my name. Thanks.

Visited on a cool, fall day and had a great 70 minute walk. Nice boardwalk portions of the trail; the grassy and gravel trails were also great. Saw some waterfowl, but no Gator sightings. There are many scenes of Spanish moss covered trees and bullrushes on the water's edge. We saw many people of all ages enjoying the scenery as well. If you are looking for a place to spend some leisurely walks with scenery, this should be on your list to visit. Dog friendly and some bicycling is available.
Rev. J — Google review
Nice nature park. Lots of walking trails, boardwalk, had park for children and restrooms. It was hot out so bring water. We didn’t see any gators but lots of birds, turtles, and butterflies. Will visit again, next time by bike!
Anna G — Google review
What an absolute gem this place is to enjoy. Nice 5 mile loop with soooo much to see. Gators, ibis, indigo bunting, little blue heron, green heron, greebe, whistle ducks, anhinga, osprey and so much more. Definitely recommend if you’re a birder.
Andrew D — Google review
If you're looking for a free & natual place to visit that's dog friendly with accessible trails then Phinizy Swamp is for you. There is a staffed welcome center with restrooms and a water fountain/bottle refill station a short distance down the boardwalk trail. There's also a water research facility and an educational center right next to the welcome/visitor's center. It also has picnic tables, a campfire pit, and a nice playground with a shelter. Highly recommend walking as much of the trails as possible. This is an IBA (important bird area).
H.w. E — Google review
I go to a lot of local, state and national parks. I really wasn't impressed by this one. A whole lot of nothing to see once you get off the wood path (which was nice, but that was it). I didn't see any wildlife on my trip, it could have just been the day. The neighboring waste water plant and wind direction didn't do much to make the walk enjoyable. Bring insect repellent, the mosquitos and gnats are bad.

The Morris Museum of Art, located in Augusta along the Riverwalk, proudly holds the title of being the oldest museum in the nation dedicated to Southern art and artists. Its extensive permanent collection boasts over 5,000 works dating from the 18th century to present day, displayed across 10 galleries. In addition to its main collection, visitors can enjoy rotating exhibitions that celebrate Southern creators, culture and history. The museum also offers free guided tours on weekends and free admission on Sundays.
The Morris Museum of Art is a charming destination for art lovers! It features a lovely collection of Southern art and has a welcoming atmosphere. The exhibits are well-curated, showcasing both historic and contemporary pieces. The staff is friendly and helpful, making your visit enjoyable. It's a great spot to explore and appreciate art in a relaxed setting. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area!
Andy B — Google review
The various galleries were nice and had a decent variety of different time periods throughout US history, however I personally would have really liked to have seen a bit more variety, diversity and more inspiring styles of art versus their mostly canvas, portraits, landscapes and oil paintings of traditional southern life. Our Dorset was knowledgeable and encouraged engagement and creative thinking about the various pieces on exhibit. Mrs. Marion also did an excellent job with the kids in the arts and crafts department and really inspired the younger generations creativity through art and imagination.

After eating brunch at the Brunch House of Augusta we drove to the Savannah River walk off of 10th street. We noticed that some young artists were painting a mural on the side of a building. This project is a two week mural camp. Young people sign up and pay to do this camp. Mural artist Jason Craig is one of the teachers involved in this project. There are several buildings around the city of Augusta that have been painted by these artists student campers. This caught my attention because art and wood carving are two of my hobbies. I love to support local businesses and art education.

Very nice museum. It is super well organized and I love the art that they have on display. It was my first time visiting but it won't be my last. Also I love that Sunday's are free entry.

Beautiful and well designed art museum in the heart of Augusta. I love the free Sundays and will be returning. The artwork is phenomenal and the Jonathan Greene exhibit was really special.

Very nice beside the Savanah river walkway. We'll decorate with antique oil paintings. It's not so big but it's worthy to visit with alone, or with friends and family. You have to pay but Sunday is free.
Md H — Google review
Affordable, well organized, variety of different types of art. We spent about 1.5 hours here as I studied many pieces. Front desk staff was welcoming and helpful. Please leave your food or drinks in the car before you go, they aren't allowed in the exhibit. There is a small gift shop here.
Anna Q — Google review
I adore the Morris. There is so much to see and it is well curated. I enjoy that they have traveling exhibits, so there is usually something new to see each visit. Beautiful and spacious interior. Well kept and clean. There are such fantastic pieces here, and so many things to pique your interest, and to learn about.

Augusta Riverwalk is a charming riverfront park located in downtown Augusta, offering a picturesque brick walking path along the Savannah River. This popular attraction features a splash fountain, children's playground, and various amenities nearby. Visitors can explore museums situated at either end of the Riverwalk and enjoy year-round events. The area comes alive on Saturday mornings during spring through fall with the Augusta Market at the River, where vendors showcase fresh produce and aromatic coffee.
It was indeed hot, but worth the walk along the river with the breeze! Parking was easy & a few food options.
Kay B — Google review
Maybe the fall would’ve been a better time to visit since it was so hot. We managed to walk the riverwalk anyway and it was very pleasant. There’s a shop at the end with water and ice cream and bathrooms which was a life saver! Such a great place for a run too. Only disappointment was the playground was broken down and fenced off. Next time we’ll try a cruise on the canal! :)
Miss S — Google review
The Riverwalk in Augusta is a beautiful place to enjoy a stroll along the Savannah River. Depending on the time of day, it can get very hot, and the insects can sometimes be a nuisance, but the peaceful atmosphere makes up for it. It’s rarely crowded, so you can really enjoy the serenity and the gorgeous river views. During the summer months, the farmers market adds a nice touch with fresh produce and local vendors. Overall, it’s a pleasant spot to relax, walk, and take in the scenery.
Aracelis S — Google review
A very hot day but what a lovely walk to have. Not much in the way of shade but a very well laid out walk with lots of wild life to see along the river. We even saw an alligator slowly swimming along, plenty of turtles and countless different species of birds.
Deb L — Google review
Update! After a few months and maybe with my review the river walk is looking back to normal! The playground needs to be fixed more but way safer. Homeless people are sleeping on it but there may not be much you all can do. Thank you for making this part of downtown beautiful again 🤗 I love taking my dog downtown to walk and since the hurricane trees have been down for several months. They have started the process of cutting them but not removing them. It seems ridiculous to let the quality of the Riverwalk go down but enhance the area leading up to National Hill. Our tax dollars should have paid also for this to be renovated. It has been 8 months since the hurricane and this should have been removed before now. Someone or their child is going to get hurt because people still try to play on the playground & enjoy the Riverwalk. Let's do more Augusta before we loose even more funds to our city. We must care more than the Masters!
Sensei U — Google review
It is a nice walk by the river. Nice park but needs some upkeep. Beware of the gnats as they were driving me crazy!
Bruce L — Google review
Pretty path to walk! Lovely sunrise! I stayed at the Marriott and walked along the river walk one morning. It felt a bit desolate in some areas and some folks were sleeping on park benches. I was hoping there would be some businesses and life along the path, but in my short walk, I didn’t find any (I think because of the floods they’ve had along there). It’s a lovely path and a lot of time and money went into it. The water was a bit polluted, but overall, it’s a nice offering to locals and tourists.
Laura S — Google review
Riverwalk Augusta is very nice. Quite peaceful and relaxing, with lots of interesting historic markers and a sculpture trail. The day we visited was quite warm and there were not many people around at all. Quite a lot of downed trees and branches waiting to be cleared that appeared to have been there for a while.

The Sacred Heart Cultural Center is an impressive venue that was once a Catholic church from the 19th century. It now serves as a cultural center for hosting concerts and art exhibitions. The brochure given to visitors allows them to explore at their own pace, and headphones are also available for those who prefer guided tours. The staff are thoughtful and accommodating, providing wheelchair access through a separate entrance upon request. One visitor expressed how beautiful the place was during an art function hosted there.
Very nice event with great vibes. It was cool to find something different to do in Augusta. I went by myself with this would be a great date or friend group activity also. The music selection was top notch, and I loved the engagement from the musicians! I’m so excited for next month event and have even looked at some others and nearby cities!!

Beautiful venue with a lot of great views, I attended this former cathedral to assist a candlelight event which was beyond excellent. The atmosphere of it makes it so unique and it truly feels like you’re in Barcelona or another colonial city, I wish I could’ve been there for longer to appreciate all the detail in this place.

A truly exhilarating experience to visit the Sacred Heart Cultural Center. We were meant to buy some truly passionate ladies who informed us of the history of the cultural center and what is currently going on within its walls. There are brochures and a lovely little gift shop that you can visit after your self-guided tour of the Great Hall. The stained glass windows each hold their own unique story, artists and beauty thats a true wonder to experience. You can rent this place as well, which makes any event memorable. I have attended quite a few events at this lovely historical building and each one has been a wonderful memory attached with it.

The architect in the former Catholic Church is beautiful. It is amazing it was restored so well and maintained. The folks that work there were so pleasant: The outside of the building is beautiful and the grounds surrounding the building are well maintained.

The Lucy Craft Laney Museum in Augusta, Georgia is a small but significant house that pays tribute to the life and impact of Lucy Craft Laney, a prominent African-American educator. The museum offers tours that provide insights into the black history of Augusta and the pivotal role played by Ms. Laney in educating black children. With constantly updated exhibits, including collections on civil rights, art, and health, visitors can immerse themselves in the legacy of individuals who contributed to various aspects of Augusta's community.
What an amazing experience. Great museum dedicated to a pioneer in her own right for the sacrifices she made to educate young Black kids. When I got there, the museum was closed, but call the number on the front door, and a young lady will come and let you in. The military discount is $5.00. There's a 10-minute film that talks about her life and the many contributions she made in the education field. Must see if you're visiting Augusta
Brian L — Google review
Her Resume would be Larger than Life!! Lucy Craft Laney is remembered as a pioneer and a model figure of education and social activism, and is often referred to as, "the mother of the children of the people". Among her many credentials is: Founder of the Haines Normal and Industrial Institute, Founder of the Lamar School of Nursing, which was directly connected to the Lamar Hospital for black patients, Founder of the first kindergarten for black children, and she was key in the founding of the NAACP. To honor her commitment, tireless efforts and accomplishments, President Carter hung her portrait (and 2 other notable blacks) in the White House, and she was also inducted as a member of the "Georgia Women of Achievement". I was fortunate to have Corey as my tour guide! For the last 24 years he has dedicated his efforts to her Legacy and is a great source of knowledge. Lucy Craft Laney is a "must" in learning about black social development.

While the website listed it open on Mondays, it was initially closed when we arrived. However some of the staff saw us walking around the grounds and offered to open it up for us since we were visiting from out of town. Super informative source on a fascinating African American woman. Thank you to the staff. Above and beyond!

We recently arranged a field trip to see the museum, and more specifically, an installation of art work honoring women artists. The space was clean, elegant, warm, and inviting. The installation was amazing with beautiful artwork in several different styles. The artist talk by Rhian Swain was informative and inspirational. I'm looking forward to coming back for the full museum experience.

Absolutely fantastic museum. Beautifully maintained and well loved by staff. Fantastic events - a hidden gem in Augusta. In my opinion, far more valuable and enriching than its counterpart on Broad St

I visited this museum last year in 2023. I paid to go on a field trip with a group of people with Aiken Senior life services here in Aiken SC.It was a wonderful experience to, see all of the famous people that have lived in Augusta GA such as James Brown, Laurence Fishbone. So many beautiful photos of African American people that I remember studying about in my history classes in public schools such as, Harriet Tudman, Fredrick Douglas. Education is essential. The staff gave us a tour ,and we watched a movie about Lucy craft Laney ,and the legacy that she left behind.RIP God bless Aiken Senior life services.

If you get the chance to go, you should definitely go! I went with my grandson's cub scouts group, and we all had a wonderful time. The hosts were friendly and informative on the tour along the canal, and they were so patient with the boys. It's beautiful along the canal. We even got to see one of the birds spreading its wings to dry off. And, there's a big flower sculpture that she explains along with the histories of the canal and the buildings as you ride the canal boat down and back. After the tour of the canal, everyone wandered through the museum, pushing the buttons to listen to the recordings, turning cranks to watch the water flow, and touching cotton bales and skulls of animals that had been found in the canal.

I never realized how much of historical interest is in Augusta, especially at the Augusta Canal. We took 4 of our grandchildren on the historic canal boat trip in October and they loved it. They saw I threshing birds and turtles, and enjoyed the historical narration by our guide Kelly. Such a beautiful day and wonderful outing. The interactive museum was terrific as well.

Very interesting museum that not enough people know about. Great insight into Augusta's history. Fun canal boat tour is a must with knowledgeable tour guides to explain the need for the canal and how it was used originally and today.
Michael M — Google review
It was a very nice place to spend some time, although the canal boats were not working when I went. The intro movie, only 10 minutes in length, did a good job explaining the development of Augusta's canals and importance as a center of industry. Exhibits included a lot of interactive opportunities for kids, and were well thought out. Admission was very reasonable, and the gift shop worth a walk-through.

Always fun. Spectacular musician on a Friday evening tour. Playing guitar, outstanding voice, Georgia songs and sing along romantic music. Museum absolutely worth a visit before the canal tour.
Janet F — Google review
Beautiful scenery and full of history you can feel. Quiet area below the canal, with a few "artifacts" and remnants of structures. Be mindful of the businesses and residents there when you visit. Walking up to the canal is also a treat. Steady foot traffic of those getting exercise and taking in the scenery or air. Do keep an eye out for the population that calls under the bridges "home". Haven't had a negative experience, but I also respect space.

I visited during the First Annual Augusta Canal Heritage Festival, the first time I'd heard of the canal. The museum provides an interesting overview of the canal's history with a set of detailed models of the canal area of Augusta. The signage of the displays provides details about who was involved with the building of the canal and the textile mills along its banks and how the canal influenced Augusta. I suggest that you also visit the Augusta Museum of History. Both the Museum of History and the Augusta Canal exhibits work together to provide a history of Augusta and both can be done in a single day. The gift shop is small but does have a selection of paperbacks on various subjects of the canal and Augusta. There are also postcards and note paper. A shortened version of a trip on the canal onboard a canal boat offered during the festival was interesting and relaxing. Going beneath Butt Memorial Bridge with the swallows flitting about was exciting. We saw other wildlife and flowers on the banks during our trip. Parking for the festival was available on both sides of the converted mill building where the museum is housed. The canal itself is along a ridge hence elevated above the plaza outside the museum and its building. Metal stairs are used to move from the plaza up to the canal bank. There is a restaurant across the alley from the museum however I ate lunch from a food truck on my visit.

A great way to learn the history of the canal. The museum is interactive and fun for the whole family. There are guided boat rides offered 5 days a week as well. The people are helpful, friendly and kind. The cost is inexpensive and its a fun weekend or week day venture. Id recommend a visit. We visit at least twice a year.

Nestled in the heart of Augusta, Meadow Garden is a captivating 18th-century historic house museum that once served as the residence of George Walton, a notable figure who signed the Declaration of Independence for Georgia. This charming abode, built in 1791, has been meticulously restored over time from its original two-story Sands Hill Cottage design to include an impressive three-bay extension.
This museum is so magical! They have beautiful candle lights and Christmas decorations everywhere the whole month of December. They had wonderful costumed tour guides that give you fun and interesting history facts while you walk around the home. They had live music and their gift shop is amazing! Every year they have an open house the first weekend of December!!!

His image is not on any coin or legal tender, but his influence is imprinted on the entire State of Georgia. George Walton's career started at an early age, and he took great interest in everything around him. He firstly became a lawyer before entering politics. George was one of the youngest signers of the Declaration of Independence, served twice as Governor of Georgia, and was also a Chief Justice in Georgia's Supreme Court. He also served as a U.S. Senator. Walton served as a Colonel in the Georgia militia during the Revolutionary War, and was injured and captured defending Savannah. He was held as a prisoner for nearly a year. The tour of the property was incredibly interesting. Ransom was very thorough, and she answered all my questions. I want to thank her, and all the members of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for their hard work in preserving such important history, and for all the work they do everywhere.

Visited 7/8/24 on a quiet Monday afternoon. Really interesting tour! Learned a lot and really appreciate the restoration efforts of the DAR here. Great place for an American history field trip. We were told the 4th of July celebrations are not to be missed here so will log that away for another visit! Free on site parking. Near downtown Augusta attractions. A must see when visiting the area!!

Very interesting Colonial Era house, history, artifacts, and story of one of the lesser known signers of The Declaration of Independence. A History Teacher and Daughter of The Revolution was on hand that day to educate and answer questions. Not only was his family property seized and he taken prisoner by The British but he sent his wife to family in Charleston hoping for her safety, and she too was arrested separately off her ship and held prisoner for his SIGNATURE ON OUR DECLARATION. We should study and learn who gave what sacrifices to stand for our FREEDOMS and appreciate them and the HUGE prices they paid. It inspires me as a Veteran to continue standing firm for our nation, and our our Enlightened Founding Principles. Some Popular Books OUR FOUNDERS Were Reading (list available from the Historian) will be edited in tonight...

Our tour guide Stephanie was great! My group was more interested in the architecture history of the house and she was able to provide tons of information about the house and point out interesting architecture details. I wish they were planning on making the upstairs into part of the museum just because I wanted to take a look up there ha. Overall great time and it's a cool thing to do on a Monday in Augusta. Lastly - LOVED the cat on the premises. Photo attached.

Of all the historic home tours we've done over the years this was one of the best. No blue hair giving you a rehearsed spiel. The tour is done by a classically trained curator who is engaging and knowledgeable. Highly recommended if you want to have serious historical discussions with someone who knows their stuff.
Gary G — Google review
We were so fortunate to have Stephanie guide us through the history of the Walton family and the previous residents of Meadow Gardens. Despite some of the other reviewers’ comments regarding the authenticity of the ongoing preservation efforts, I truly believe their amazing team values the longevity of the historic site, uncovering the secrets of the building’s founding, and staying true to the historic time period. Stephanie was warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. This is a must visit during your stay in Augusta. Plenty of parking and well worth the $5 admission.
Joshua M — Google review
I definitely walked into a piece of American history today at the home of George Walton, one of the signers of the declaration of independence. An amazing landmark right here in Augusta's backyard that I was previously unaware of, I was delighted to learn that today it was free. Through a grant from the Daughters of the American Revolution, efforts are underway to complete a planned 10-year restoration project. They are currently into their third year, and things are starting to look pretty good. So, I spent a good hour and a half there, and I learned quite a bit. Because it was a free day, there were quite a few people present. Unfortunately, I think the presentation suffered a little bit because of it. But I'm sure if you go during the week when there isn't as many people, they would take their time and and it wouldn't feel as rushed as it did. Overall, however, I believe it was worth it and my time was well spent. I learned a lot today. Next time you're looking for something to do in augusta, I believe it would be worth it to take the time and have a tour, to get a little history lesson concerning a very important event affecting all of us in this great country of ours.

The Imperial Theatre, a stunning venue established in 1918, stands as a cherished landmark in Augusta, Georgia. Originally designed for vaudeville and silent films, this historic theatre has evolved into a vibrant hub for the performing arts. Visitors can immerse themselves in an array of performances ranging from beloved Broadway musicals like 'A Chorus Line' and 'Mary Poppins' to captivating concerts and tribute shows.
The theatre is a little small but comfortable. It went through renovations years ago. It is clean but needs some repairs to safety rails near the handicapped seating area. Just before entering the theatre there are two bar/snack areas. Each offer candy bars, wine and basic mixed drinks for sale. I've enjoyed the Wizard of Oz and Swan Lake Ballet. Check out the coming shows.

Wonderful place but be aware if you’re deathly afraid of heights you may want to not get seats further up in the balcony as it’s a STEEP climb up. We will be back but just not as high up in the balcony next time. 🤭
Heather C — Google review
Nice place. Of the many photos other people have taken, I didn't see the point of view of someone handicapped (as I am) so I wanted to include these. Photos of where I sat (front row) to show the amount of space available for people to walk by. I walk with crutches so I wasn't sure where I could put them but they "fit" safely in front of me against the small curtain above the orchestra pit. There was plenty of room to walk in front of that front row. Pictures of the back area show what I presume to be the "handicap area." I'm not sure, but I guess that's where someone in a wheelchair might go. And the aisle down to the front is fairly steep! I'm not sure what the incline is but you gotta be careful on crutches. Very nice and comfortable theater. I confess I didn't hear every word of every song, maybe my hearing is going 😄

Definitely a cool part of Augusta history, I think the volume is a little high and distorts voices when actors are singing. Acoustics are a little off, with a little too much of the sound waves bouncing off walls/ceilings awkwardly. But given it’s a theater that needs a couple layers of paint (kind of dated) the folks there really do great work putting on productions.

Nestled in Augusta, GA, Pexcho's American Dime Museum is a delightful nod to the dime museums of the late 19th century. This unique venue offers an engaging blend of education and entertainment—often referred to as "edutainment." Visitors can expect a whimsical experience filled with fascinating artifacts that celebrate the bizarre and extraordinary. Perfect for couples looking to relive their childhood or families eager for an adventure, this museum invites you to explore its captivating exhibits by appointment only.
We had the amazing opportunity to visit the ONLY remaining American Dime Museum in the world!! Peter was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining and we had a BLAST! There aren’t many things that my 8yr old son enjoys these days since being wheelchair bound and getting cancer treatment, and my pre-teen daughters are in their only-care-about-technology phase, so I’m always on the lookout for cool, interesting and unique experiences. This place exceeded my expectations and kept my kids mesmerized for hours! While simultaneously learning about American culture & history!! Highly recommend!!

Very enjoyable visit--the highlight of our Augusta trip. The oddities in the museum (e.g., vampire bass (not bats--bass...), shrunken heads, a mummy, two-headed t-rex skeleton, etc.) were neat to look at, but what really made the visit fun were the tales told by Peter & Red. You'll come away schooled up nicely on the history of dime museums & sideshow acts, but thanks not to lectures but to engaging stories. The experience was very personalized; there were only four adults in our group on a Friday evening and questions/comments were welcomed & encouraged. Visit would absolutely be fine for older elementary-aged kids. Tour started promptly at 6 p.m. and we left around 8:15 having been thoroughly entertained on the guided tour and by a genuine, bone fide sword swallowing act, post tour. Logistics were easy. We parked literally right in front of the museum and there were additional vacant on-street spaces all around us. Area was a block or so off the main downtown drag but not crowded at all & felt totally safe. Admission price was $18 per person. TBH, I initially thought that was a bit steep, but left feeling very much like I'd gotten my money's worth and was happy to have supported what is very obviously a labor of love for a committed soul.

If you haven't visited this curio in Augusta yet, you're doing yourself a disservice! Filled with curiosities and various other historical items and it items that defy conventional description, it certainly fits in the spectrum of the weird/other worldly/side show. The show takes about a good 2-2.5 hrs and is entertaining to say the least! You can't beat that amount of entertainment for less than 20 bucks for one price of admission! The only downside is that they are reservation only, so you'll have to call the number to get your spot, but they usually do 2-3 shows a day. If you ever find yourself with nothing to do on a weekend or weekday, I highly suggest grabbing the family and/or a group of friends and taking the tour!

We visited the coolest museum ever today—Pexcho’s American Dime Museum—and I cannot recommend it highly enough! It is the last remaining dime museum in the world, and what an experience it was. Peter (the owner and guide) gave one of the most thought-provoking, informative, and engaging tours I’ve ever had the pleasure of attending. Even my daughter, who doesn’t usually enjoy museums, was captivated! Peter and Red shared fascinating insights into the history of America’s weird and wonderful—from carnivals and circuses to sideshows and curiosities. If you’re a history buff like me and love podcasts like Lore, Southern Gothic, or Dark History, you’ll recognize so many names, stories, and events woven throughout the tour. This museum is an absolute gem, and visiting it is like stepping into a living archive of forgotten Americana. Do yourself a favor and take the tour—you won’t regret it!
Erin L — Google review
This might be the only place I've ever wanted to put a higher rating than 5. If you're looking at this review, get off the fence and give Peter a call to schedule a time. Easily the most enjoyable, informative, and wildly entertaining tour I've ever been on, and definitely my favorite place in Augusta. We'll be going back every time we are in town.
J H — Google review
This place is by far the best thing to see and do in Augusta. It is affordable, the experience of approximately 2 hours will keep you on the edge of your seat and the way Pexcho engages with his audience shows an ability to keep an interest, in the same vein as P.T. Barnum or those who worked with the early versions of a World's Fair or the many Dime Museums of yesteryear. You will be entertained and the experience you will have will not leave you disappointed. You will have to contact directly to book for a tour, but they are always polite, willing to accommodate when possible, and eager to have you experience the bizarre and see the oddities of the world. If you have children, watch their cell phones not leave their pocket as they become interested in everything that surrounds them. Seriously, if you're in Augusta and only have time to do one activity, this is your sign to book now.

So glad we decided to go! This is a one of a kind experience. Peter and the museum are amazing. Felt like I went back in time. Living History Park in North Augusta, South Carolina, is a recreation of an 18th-century village from 1735 to 1785. Managed by volunteers, the park offers daily exploration opportunities for visitors unless closed for private events. The park features old building replicas and hosts festivals and concerts. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful and educational experience while strolling through well-maintained grounds that effectively utilize the space. It's a great place to step back in time or simply relax amidst nature.
I visited early in the morning and it was very peaceful. The grounds are well-maintained, and they utilized the space very effectively. This was our first time going to the Living History Park and it was incredible to say the least. The park is definitely a hidden gem in the area, hidden by trees and shrubs you all most miss it if you are not looking for it. I have been to other parks such as this one in Virginia and it's a must see. All the participants are great and you can tell they love what they do. Our favorites were the blacksmith and the mill. 10/10 would highly recommend.

It's open to the public where you walk along a path and see old building replicas. They are all locked (maybe because it wasn't an event day) and some buildings were boarded up entirely, which is sad. But it was a nice little outing and the grounds are pretty. It's not a huge park, so if you want just a little nature walk and not spend more than an hour, this is a nice option.
Debbie B — Google review
The park is clean and picturesque. Lots of old buildings and history, but all boarded up. You cannot access the inside of any of them it’s just the view of the exterior. The walking trail is not stroller or handicap friendly, lots of stairs. Cannot pull into the park at all with vehicle. No on site parking. There is a run down playground with parking in front of the park.

I drove to Augusta which was a great drive to take in the environment, to get my fill of the water, walk the Riverwalk and to see Herb Alpert. It's an old theatre but the seats were comfy with ample spacing and it appears that there was not a bad seat in the house. Loved the acoustics which was not to loud and I was a few rows from the front. Everything felt personable. Of course everytime I see Herb it seems like we're family. He and his band still GOT IT! The rhythm, vibe and sounds of harmony took us back to the days of old! ❤️ 😍 💖 Get there early to find parking.

Ot was a great concert till people stated standing in the aisles. We paid for the front row, and for people yo start standing in front of us. It was very rude. Security shouldn't have allowed that until the end. People were leaving their seats and standing in aisles and attempting to come at the stage while they were still singing. Otherwise, the entire concert was a great performance. This doesn't happen at Bell or Evans.

Went to see To Kill a Mockingbird here and let me tell you, it was one of the best portrayals of the classic book I've seen in recent years. The acting was great and you really felt as though you were in 1935, all of the discomfort and raw emotion experienced in the book set out on stage, and all though their stage was small the actors really put on a hell of a show. :)

Le Chat is better than ever! I've been attending events here for years and I am so excited about the improvements that have been made post-pandemic. Not only are they providing quality, alternative entertainment, but the bar itself is excellent. I'm so glad you can now enjoy the bar and beautiful speakeasy atmosphere even on non-event nights. Their menu of craft cocktails has expanded - there are delicious drinks for all tastes, including real absinthe service. You can even carry on a conversation here without being audibly assaulted by someone playing cover songs. What a nice thing when you go out! The Augusta Canal Discovery Center is a captivating destination that offers an immersive experience into the history and evolution of the only industrial canal in the American South. Housed in a historic textile mill, the center features interactive exhibits and artifacts that showcase the trade and transportation along the canal over time. Visitors can explore the significance of the Augusta Canal, which played a pivotal role in the city's development and industrial growth since its completion in 1845.
We thoroughly enjoyed the 2nd annual Canal Discovery day on April 15th 2023. The Canal Discovery Center has a detailed walkable museum that is interactive for all ages. They also offer boat rides with a guide that tells the history of the canal, its workers, the history of the buildings along the canal and the story of the people who hand dug the canal. Id highly recommend a visit to this wonderful local museum for the whole family.

On Saturday 5/21/22, we arrived at the Canal Discovery Center at around 9:45am for their 10am canal boat tour. We were a little dismayed that the tour boat might be at capacity. We hung around to wait and see about a large group that was running a little late. The Discovery Center staff was great and they worked it out that we were able to go on the tour also. The boat guide and captain were great. We really enjoyed the hour long canal tour. We had no idea that the canal was so vital to Augusta's history. It was very informative. We also enjoyed the museum where we learned so much more about the area history. If you're in the area and looking for something to do, I highly recommend this.

Wildlife park
Brick Pond Park, nestled in downtown North Augusta, South Carolina, is a nature lover's paradise. This 40-acre restored ecosystem boasts walking trails, picnic spots, and a playground for kids around a large pond. The park also features a plant trail, stormwater treatment facility, and an array of wildlife to observe. Visitors can enjoy the tranquility of the area while spotting turtles, alligators, and various bird species. Additionally, there's a beautiful butterfly garden to explore.
Perfect Fall day of solitude. There's still Helene damage, but it's getting there! Great place for quiet and God's beauty

Kinda small but absolutely beautiful. I don't think there is a waterfall here.

Perfect short walk to do with kids through the woods and on the boardwalk. Saw about 10 young alligators, blue Herron, unhinged, turtles etc. Several places to have a picnic and close to some good local restaurants. Best to park by the municipal building.

Visited from Colorado, I can say if I lived here I’d be down at these ponds all the time. So much wildlife even though it’s a small area. I think it’s really cool you can see gators, giant carp, birds, turtles, lizards. Very cool place!!

The Brick Pond in North Augusta is a hidden gem. It's the perfect spot for a walk or run. You're sure to see wildlife and enjoy relaxing vistas. With so many trails in this area permanently shut down from the damage caused by Hurricane Helene in 2024, it's a relief to have access to a well kept series of meandering trails.
Elle B — Google review
Nice little walk through the ponds and a lot of wildlife to look at. My favorites are the alligators and the birds.
Frank O — Google review
Nice outdoor area for a short hike around the ponds, next to the Greeneway in North Augusta where we bike often (13 miles round trip). Many lotus flowers in the ponds. We saw 2 gators, a small 3-4 ft and a large 7-8 ft but that one was too far away. Many turtles basking on logs in water. One lady was taking photos of green frogs on the iris flowers - very cool she shared info, otherwise we would have not noticed.

Surprised is an understatement when I visited Brick Pond Park this morning. I heard locals talking about it beauty and tranquility this close to town. Its a prime example of nature and man living side by side. The walking and bike paths a maintained year around it appears. You can see turtles and gators and a number of birds. Its simply breathtaking. Many place to sit and observe nature or pack a lunch and make a day of it. I can not wait to show my children. This place will make you want to relocate to North Augsta, South Carolina as I have. Highly recommend. Also, has a butterfly garden I have not yet visited. Stay tuned.

The James Brown Monument in Augusta is a must-see for fans of the Godfather of Soul. Located in a quiet downtown area, the statue is easily accessible and stands at the same height as Mr. Brown himself. While some visitors expected a more grandiose monument, locals explained that it was designed according to Mr. Brown's wishes to be close to the ground where people are.
It was really cool to get to see the James Brown statue. It wasn’t a bucket list item for me, but I was in Augusta and someone mentioned it. Great to see a musical legend honored this way!

I mean, probably during an event or downtown celebration, something cool to see. And it is nice that they have erected it. But as a stand-alone site to see just so so. Perhaps combine it with the exhibit at the Augusta History Museum.

It was wonderful to see the James Brown statue, it was easy to find and very well maintained. Pictured are a few other James Brown honorings nearby.

It doesn't exist anymore, at least not in this location. The mural right down the street makes up for it, though.

Disappointed 2 c the statue was moved, perhaps the result o street construction. Wooda been nice if this fact was mentioned in Google maps; signage on-site indicating such, as well as 2 where its currently located

The facility is well-maintained and provides a wide variety of food options. Visitors appreciate the friendly and helpful staff who go above and beyond to ensure an enjoyable experience for both kids and adults. It's a great place for kids to stay active while interacting with others in a clean and safe environment.
This was our first time here. My son wanted to have his party here this year. Everything was perfect! They provided everything for the party as far table cover/decoration, plates, utensils, napkins, and cups. We literally didn't have to do anything. Kayla was our host. She made sure everything went so smooth! She served all the food to the kids and cut/served the cake. Kayla was so nice and caring. She really went way above and beyond all expectations. This was by far the best experience we've had at an establishment. Not to mention the place itself is a huge play palace for the kids. Highly recommended for birthday parties!

Used to be loud and disorganized and we stopped bring our child that was 2 years ago. Returned this year to give it another try and it has been a 180 change. There is a security agent present and the staff are attentive. They need to fix the entry gate but it is clean and better managed. It is nice to bring the kids when the park is not avaliable due to heat or weather. Would like to see more arcade machines like DDR though.

Took the kids here on spring break and they had a blast. We usually go to Savannah as we are in Statesboro but will go here from now on as it is much cleaner and the employees are so nice!! Jayden helped me boys get harnessed up and walked the high ninja course with them. A little girl was in the playland crying and he rushed over and gently carried her to her mom. It was nice to see such a patient young man working with all these crazy kids! Kudos to his parents.

I just want to give a shout-out to the guy working behind the snack counter at Urban Air today. His name is Terrance. He was so kind, helpful, and genuinely friendly the whole time. He went out of his way to make sure we got what we needed and did it with such a positive attitude. It really made the experience even better, and it’s rare to come across customer service that feels so genuine. Thank you for making our visit that much more enjoyable!

Riverwatch Cinemas is a popular spot in Augusta, offering the latest movies and a great atmosphere for hanging out. The theater is known for its clean and comfortable environment, with reclining seats that provide a cozy experience. Visitors have praised the friendly staff and fresh popcorn, making it a go-to destination for moviegoers in the area. Additionally, its convenient location near other attractions like Top Golf, BassPro shop, and Costco adds to its appeal as an entertainment hub.
These people know how to run a cinema. Clean restrooms that do not have flies buzzing around and does not smell like several people relieved themselves on the floor. I can’t say the same for Regal Cinemas by Robert C. Daniel. The theaters are also well kept and clean. Great movie experience.
Jason T — Google review
First time here. The seating is Phenomenal. The isles are so big you don't have to lower your seat to let someone by. Reserve seating. The ability to use kiosk to purchase tickets cuts down on lines. It has a bar with plenty of seating that you can watch sports while your kid is at the movies. The refreshment counter is fast moving and has a large selection. The sound system and screen quality is amazing. My only complaint was that the mens bathroom needed some attention but after telling the manager he quickly had it attended too.
Brian K — Google review
We had a great experience! The staff were great and kind enough to offer to take family photos! (I have tourist like behavior when comes to getting pictures if i need to.) The seating was amazing! Tons of leg room for the "big guy" you see in the photo. Being able to recline and take advantage of the foot rest was amazing. Totally worth the drive from Aiken to enjoy this level of comfort. The entire facility was clean and tidy, appeared well staffed and everybody we met was so nice. I'm guessing the costumes could have played a part, but not all of it. It is however, the first time I've had a theater applaud our family's entrance! It made my night! It was just a little taste of fame for us! We'll be returning again, but next time incognito mode! (BTW, we saw Beetle Juice if you didn't catch that!)
Kristina S — Google review
Me and the girls love this place . They enjoy the recliner seats as much as I do. But they just love the unlimited supply of slushies. Since we're poor, we enjoy going on Tuesdays where you don't really have to debate in pleasing your kids or paying a needed bill. So great place go there now while its still standing and operational. Great addition to the metro consolidated counties.

Our recent family outing to the movie theater was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement. The theater itself was beautifully designed, with comfortable seating that made us feel right at home. We decided to catch the latest blockbuster, and the ticket process was a breeze—no long lines, just quick and efficient service. Once inside, we were thrilled to find the snack bar stocked with all our favorites. We indulged in buttery popcorn, candy, and refreshing drinks, which only added to the excitement of the movie. The screen was massive, and the sound quality was incredible—every explosion and whisper felt immersive. Watching the film together as a family was a wonderful experience, filled with laughter, gasps, and shared moments that we will cherish forever. One of the highlights was the family-friendly atmosphere. The staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring that everyone was having a great time. After the movie, we took a moment to discuss our favorite scenes and characters, making the outing feel even more special. Overall, this trip to the movie theater was a fantastic way to spend time together as a family. We left with smiles on our faces and plans to return soon for another cinematic adventure. Highly recommend this theater for anyone looking for a fun family outing!
Marcela A — Google review
Had the worst experience here tonight. The kiosks were all down so the employees were handling everything manually. There were people in our assigned seats when we got into the theater and the movie had already started. We noticed their tickets had the same seat number. I went to the customer service desk and tried to explain the situation to which an employee responded that the manager HAS to go check the tickets. I made it clear that I was not trying to continue disrupting the movie, I wanted to see what my other options were and potentially get a refund because at this point, we’re missing a lot of the movie! But once again this person insisted this was the process! Okay. So the manager comes back out with the person who was in our seats. Turns out, they were there on the WRONG DAY!! Smh. Anyways, I told the guy I don’t want those seats now… At this point it’s been like 30 minutes and I’ve missed too much of the movie (mind you I tried to avoid all of this!) He proceeds to catch an attitude with me saying I should have said that and complaining about how he went and got this couple out of their seats… although I’m the one being inconvenienced because those were in my MY SEATS! I was offered the next available movie but of course there were no available seats. All of this to say I am a loyal paying customer to riverwatch cinemas and I was extremely inconvenienced tonight and somehow made to feel like it was my fault. I hope that other couple enjoyed their movie.

Riverwatch Cinemas in Augusta makes for an exceptional movie experience! Plenty of parking, a standalone theater in a great location. Once inside you'll be greeted by a vast, clean lobby. A large ticketing and food area on the left side, with another snack and beverages (including wine) area just past the ticket taker. The popcorn is very good, but I tend to favor the nachos with lots of hot cheese. The staff are always friendly. We've been going here since they opened and really enjoy the place. The theaters all have wide aisles, stadium style seating so that each row sits higher than the row in front, and very comfortable electric recliners. The sound systems surround you and make you feel like you're in the middle of the action. That's especially true in their GTX theater! We just watched F1 in the GTX and were blown away. I like the option to pick your seats and pay via their online app. No need to worry about what seats are still available. I just show them my phone with the purchase info. You can also just use their ticket kiosk in the lobby. Thank you Riverwatch, and as Arnold would say, "I'll be back!"

Bowlero Augusta is a popular bowling alley chain that offers more than just bowling. It features billiards, arcade games, and snacks, with some locations even offering laser tag. The venue is known for its great atmosphere and friendly service, making it a perfect place to hang out with friends. They have daily specials on bowling, arcade games, food, and drinks. While the food options may vary in quality and price, the overall experience at Bowlero Augusta is enjoyable.
So we decided to meet up and spend some time together early Saturday. We showed up only to find out that they were extremely busy. They had bowling leagues on one end and some parties that were set to start in a few on the other end. They did not give up, though. They found us a lane to bowl on. Mrs. Christy(I hope that's her name) the manager on duty. She was so nice and so helpful, extremely polite even though she had a full house. We really enjoyed ourselves.

We've come here 3 times already and will continue to come with how awesome it is here. It's very clean and organized. The staff are great and always smiling. We come here for birthday parties and just a family night out and always a great and fun experience. The food is yummy, too, even though it is very expensive, to be honest. No free refills for $5 beverages are overkill, so we just come to play and eat out later. Besides that, though, this place is awesome.

Great place for a kid’s birthday party. Everything was set up including the decorations and food when we got there. We had a large group of adults and kids and everyone got to enjoy themselves for a good price. Christy went out of her way to make sure our son had the time of his life and the rest of the staff made sure we were all taken care of. The food drinks remained full, everything was very clean, and everyone on staff had a very positive attitude. We will definitely be back. Thank you to everyone at Bowlero for a great day!

I don’t usually leave reviews, but I had such a great experience at this bowling alley that I felt like I had to say something. The place was clean, fun, and had a great vibe. What really stood out was the amazing service from the manager, Emma. She was super friendly, helpful, and made sure everything went smoothly for our group. Aqueduct Park, also known as Rae Creek Aqueduct Park, is a hidden gem in Augusta. It features a 19th-century granite aqueduct and a stunning 35-foot waterfall that flows into a swimming hole. The park offers various activities such as walking, biking, swimming, and even rock climbing. Despite being slightly off the beaten path and not well-marked on GPS, it boasts lush green trails with beautiful views of the Savannah River, Rae's Creek, and the Augusta Canal.
Finally made it here! Gosh does Augusta have all types of conveniently tucked away gems! You just have to go to feel what I am trying to describe. You feel so far away, almost like in a secret garden, but once you have to return back to the real-world from a mystical time capsule of a oat time outdoors, well it feels like light speed, but come to find out you never really left Augusta or went too far off the beaten path. Check! This! Place! Out!

Went here on date night and had so much fun! Went again for the NYE party/cosmic bowling with the entire family and we had a blast! Can't beat the pricing! Did have some issues with the pins falling/not resetting, but nothing the reset button didn't fix. The pizza is really good and everyone is always so friendly.

It was okay and the service was alright. We were bowling with a 2 year old and wanted bumpers. After being assigned our lane we were told only one lane had bumpers which was being used and the rest were broken. Would have been nice to know beforehand. We bowled and had fun, but it could have been a better experience.
Tessa F — Google review
The staff are horrible, unfriendly and so unprofessional. Find another job if you don’t like working there. The equipment needs to be repaired or replaced. It is so out of date and slow. It shouldn’t take a minute for the pins to rest which eats into your play time so in order to finish a game you have to pay for more time. To add to it, the water fountain was “SUPPOSEDLY” out of order. They then charge .75 for a cup of water. They don’t allow outside drinks either so they are trying to force people to buy water. I do not recommend going there.
Jaquetta C — Google review
We came here as a family to spend some time together. When we arrived everything was peachy. We got shoes and were assigned a lane quickly. When we got to our lane the first person bowled and the lane froze up, I get it, lanes lock up occasionally. They reset it and on the next bowl the lane locked up again. We were assigned a new lane. We started with the new lane and the they didn’t comp us the time missed or rest the time we lost. We bowled 8 frames and again the lane locked up. We went to the desk and asked for their assistance and if we could get an additional 5 minutes to complete our game. They allowed it but we’re still counting down time while waiting on them to reset the lane. We thanked the staff each time after asking for assistance and they wouldn’t say thank you or would roll their eyes. I’m just wanting to warn anyone that is trying to decide to bowl here just save yourself time and don’t.

Hiking area
Augusta Canal Trail is a family-friendly trail that's perfect for hiking, biking, and dog walking. The trail spans approximately 8 miles from Savannah Rapids to downtown Augusta and offers scenic views of the Savannah River and historic sites along the way. It features wide, double-track, paved, and hard-packed paths suitable for various activities. Wheelchair users will find ease of access in certain areas but should be mindful of unpaved sections.
I love this trail for running, walking, just getting outside in general. Plenty of space for people who understand it’s a shared space. I go in from the Sav Rapids bc I am more afraid of the bridge on the other side. Plenty of bike riders and place to rent bikes. I saw a little snake one day. Yikes lol. It’s hikers out there. I love to look at the plants and flowers as well. I have only went 4 miles into the trail. I hate that some people leave bags of poop on the trail but it’s the people not the trail. It smells a little rank of dog pee at the entrance sometimes too BUT again it’s not bad and it’s people and dogs Not the trail. It’s a 22 min drive from me but so worth it. Great for sunny days when I want to workout outside and have some shade. I see kayakers on the water and it’s a place to rent kayaks. It’s just a great spot for outdoor activity. It’s a playground out there at the rapids too. The path is mainly dirt with a few asphalt areas from the previous structures and structures to create the space. Animals MUST be leashed. Consideration of others is expected in this public space. Plenty of parking. Bridge is wide enough for a wheelchair just don’t remember if the little lip on it is smooth or raised. I recommend it any time of day it’s open and go with friends for an even better experience. Access to fishing, bathrooms and other things you might need before entering the trail. Plenty of parking. Take the kids to burn energy and enjoy nature.

Please only ride this trail on gravel or mountain bikes. We came from an hour away expecting a paved trail and were sorely disappointed. The pictures on trail sites were of the very short paved sections. We rode the whole trail out and back and logged 19.2 miles. Definitely some sketchy folks out on the trail smoking weed and others hanging out. Some homeless along the trail as it goes past the medical center.
Albert H — Google review
Lots of ease of access for wheelchair users. Id recommend starting at the lake and working your way down. Some of the trail is unpaved, so ensure your chair can go off road. The trails are mixed use for EBikes, Paddle bikes, and walker/ runners. Id recommend making your way to the clearing, it has restrooms, a place to lay a blanket , and a great view! The path was washed out to this area on my visit bur was still negotiable.

2025-02: Still a beautiful place, but humbling to experience the insane changes to the landscape since Hurricane Helene devastated the CSRA. Went one night to have a leisurely walk with someone. The trail heading north from Augusta Water Works is temporarily closed (I'm assuming from trees still being down and the trail being a hazard in places.) It will be open again soon, though, so just have patience while crews are still working so hard to clean up debris everywhere in the CSRA. The trail heading south from Augusta Water Works was still open, so we enjoyed a stroll for a short distance before heading back and stopping to take some pictures at Water Works 2020: Great place to enjoy a beautiful day. This particular section of the Augusta Canal Trail includes a short walk from Eisenhower Park for access to the canal trail, Water Works, and access to the Savannah River. Great for a leisurely walk or riding your bike. A lot of kayaking activity in the canal and river. Plenty of side trails right down to the banks of the Savannah River as well. All ages seen throughout the afternoon, as well as plenty of fur babies. Relaxing and friendly vibe all around. Bonus: clear water that you can walk into and be in ankle deep, or have a sense of adventure and wade into a variation of manageable depths of water by crossing over/through the rocks. Awesome finds out in the middle of the river. 😁 Just be careful of water that isn't moving at all (personally experienced this at ankle deep). We found some leeches hanging out on some rocks under the water. Unsure of the species.

Been going here a lot lately and they've been doing alot of clearing and cleaning up. This is by far the most peaceful and beautiful places to visit in Augusta. Just keep walking past the Water Works building to see for yourself. You can enter Eisenhower park and walk down toward the train tracks if you don't want to walk far. It takes you toward the Water Works building.

Great family hiking & biking trail! Dog friendly! Wide/double-track, paved & hard-packed trail, approximately 8 miles one-way from Savannah Rapids to downtown Augusta. Scenic, flat and easy ride to just get out, relax, walk or pedal and take in the scenery and fresh air. With historic sites along the way, a lush canopy overhead and the Savannah River and Augusta Canal flanking you on either side, a leisurely walk or ride makes for a perfect day! We parked at Savannah rapids, pedaled to Augusta and back for a wonderful day outdoors.

Walkers, hikers, runners with their dogs, even a high school cross country team (I think) was out there and they were flying. It’s also a generally flat course, just watch out for the occasional pot hole.

We just moved in the area and are looking for new trails to take the doggo for a run. Found this one on google maps, tried to go here last week but couldn’t figure out where to actually park and get there.😂 Was looking at the trail map online and found out we had to go first to Eisenhower park then walk like 5mins to the trail (follow the train tracks towards the steel bridge and cross the small bridge on the left). The start of the trail is to the left of the Augusta water works building. It’s a beautiful trail with lots of shade. 13 mins from the entrance of the trail is a clearing where you can just sit in front of the river and enjoy nature. 🥰 P.s. check your dog for fleas after walking the trail!

Baptist church
Springfield Baptist Church, a historic brick church dating back to 1801, holds significance as the oldest African-American congregation in Augusta. The church's rich history and ties to the local community make it a top point of interest. In 2018, it celebrated its 230th anniversary with a special event. The church stands on Springfield Way, formerly known as 12th Street. It also features a beautiful park that commemorates the history of Black pioneers through art installations.
I attended a Candlelight Communion service there and it was so nice! Pastor Bennings is a gifted speaker and the congregation is warm and welcoming!

I applaud the members and those who have supported this Historic church over the many years. The park across the street provides a lot of detail on the events that have occurred and the struggles the members have endured throughout time
