Dong Ba Market, situated along the north bank of the Perfume River on Tran Hung Dao Street in Hue, is a significant cultural and culinary hub. It offers a glimpse into the daily life of locals and showcases traditional Vietnamese market features like sampan landings and bustling bazaars. Visitors can indulge in iconic Hue dishes such as beef noodle soup and mussel rice while exploring souvenir items, bronze goods, and local delicacies like sesame sweetmeats.
Remember to bargain. Lots of things sold here. All categories of goods under the same roof. After shopping around, one can sit down to try the local Vietnamese food and refreshments

This is an amazing market, seems everything is here, quite big! Upstairs are clothing, bags and silks. We don’t have a very good experience up there, they were very pushy! A lady meet us on the stairs asking us to have a look at her clothing, told her we’re not looking anything in particular just having a look around. But she won’t have it, they will put anything you might be interested in your face! She was getting rude when I wasn’t buying. Price start really high! Another woman won’t let you passed by until they shoved anything they’re selling on your face! They repeat what you saying in a rude way! Downstairs all food, plenty of dry fruits, nuts, anything you can think of and in all different sections. Quite pleasant to look around here because they won’t bother you that much unless you ask! Helpful to have google for translation, most of sellers won’t understand English. Great experience.

A buzzing, vibrant market located just a short walk from Trường Tiền Bridge and right by the Perfume River. If you’re looking to experience the real hustle and bustle of Huế, this is the spot to hit especially towards the last for hours before closing. Inside, you’ll find everything from fresh fruit and local snacks to handmade hats, clothing, shoes, and souvenirs. The variety is impressive, and the atmosphere is very local, energetic and noisy. It can get pretty crowded and intense, especially in the late afternoon. This is the perfect place to grab local specialties or last-minute gifts. The market closes around 7:00 PM, so it’s best to visit in the morning or late afternoon. It’s a must-see spot in Huế.

🛍️ Dong Ba Market – Busy and fun to explore I visited around 11am to walk around and have lunch. There’s a lot to see, lots of local food, and plenty of things. Worth a quick visit if you’re in Hue!
Virginia L — Google review
Authentic local market, we went on a Monday morning, under 1% tourists. There an upstairs which Sells clothing and material which can be access from stairs in the middle. A good place to practice your bargaining skills and try some local cuisine. The market has sections: kitchen ceramics, baskets weaving, shoes, nuts and grains, fresh flowers, food incense etc.
Sacha — Google review
Great market and street market outside in the week at least when we visited. Friendly owners help guide you through just about every food type and fruit. This is a special market where you can buy your fruit and veggies and tea and then sit and have some fresh food. Buy a bag for the family some shoes and then some jewelry for the wife or girlfriend followed by desert. Where else can you do that in a market.
Andrew D — Google review
Big market that sells everything from great looking fresh fruits and vegetables, traditional snacks, pickles, dried teas, kitchenware, Vietnamese hats to flip lops, high heels, clothing, fresh Sambal/chili sauces, stalls selling freshly made cooked food with seats in front, and even gold stores!
Anita R — Google review
Dong Ba Market is not just a place for trading; it's also a popular destination for tourists eager to explore local cuisine, products, and the unique cultural essence of Hue. It's best to visit in the morning or late afternoon, especially during the summer. The market can get quite hot around midday. When shopping, always ask for the price first. If you're interested, you can bargain down the price, often aiming for one-third or even one-quarter of the initial asking price. Early Days (Quy Gia Thi): The market's origins trace back to the Nguyen Dynasty, initially known as Quy Gia Thi (Market of the Returnees), located outside the Chanh Dong Gate (now Dong Ba Gate). This name commemorated the return of the Nguyen forces after a period of turmoil. Destruction and Reconstruction: In the summer of 1885, when the Hue imperial capital fell, Quy Gia Market was burned down by French colonialists. In 1887, King Dong Khanh ordered its reconstruction and renamed it Dong Ba Market. Relocation and Growth: In 1899, King Thanh Thai moved the market to its current location, close to the Perfume River, between Gia Hoi Bridge and Truong Tien Bridge. Since then, Dong Ba Market has undergone several renovations and developments, becoming a bustling commercial center deeply intertwined with the daily life and culture of the ancient capital's people.

An Cuu Market, located in the village of An Cuu, Huong Tra town, has a rich historical background dating back to the reign of King Minh Mang. Initially established as a hub for Chinese trading activities, it has evolved into one of the bustling commercial areas in southern Hue. The market is renowned for its diverse food offerings and is considered a major culinary destination in Hue City.
Good place to exchange money. The shop keepers are very pushy in the market stalls tho.

Tay Loc Market, also known as Cho Tay Loc, is a bustling local market in Hue that offers a wide variety of products for both locals and tourists. From household items to fresh produce and clothing, the market is a one-stop destination for shopping. Visitors can explore numerous stalls selling high-quality souvenirs such as wooden carvings and conical hats. The vibrant street life at the market showcases the daily activities of vendors selling food to morning shoppers.
Passed by on a Sunday afternoon and decided to join the frenzy. Even in the midst of chaos everyone seemed calm and friendly, and I had my fill of reasonably priced delicacies sold by smiling grannies at several different stalls. No haggling needed.
Iwant T — Google review
I decided to see the Tay Loc Market (Cho Tay Loc) in Hue. The colors and smells of fresh produce in the markets are always so stimulating. Busy scenes of vendors selling food to morning shoppers are the best show of Vietnam’s vibrant street life. The Cho Tay Loc combines both a wet market and a dry goods sections with another area for cheap street food dining. This was a very nice opportunity for me to see the actions that drive a vibrant local economy and daily life. Be sure to grab a bite or get coffee at their little food stalls, and grab a few tropical food home.

I ran out of socks and managed to find some here . They didn’t have a lot of clothes to fit horizontally challenged people like me but I got some singlets as well as a puffy jacket. The people were very helpful and friendly and I don’t think they were trying to take advantage of my ooor language skills . I always have a bit of a problem photographing people in their stalls but it looks much the same as any markets ion this country. Vibrant and varied on stalls !!

(Translated by Google) When I went to the market, I saw the Tong cherry grocery store selling very well. She sells mainly imported goods with full origin and very affordable prices. The food in the market is also delicious and very cheap. It can be said that it is the cheapest in Hue.

(Translated by Google) According to the reviews on tiktok, the food is delicious, nutritious and cheap. But when I got there, I was so bored that I didn't even bother to say anything. I found the prices to be as expensive as in a big city (this is my personal opinion). There are quite a few dishes, I only saw vermicelli with fish sauce, vermicelli with turmeric, vermicelli with grilled pork and salty and sweet cakes. The price is 35k for 1 vermicelli with turmeric and 1 vermicelli with grilled pork (but both portions are extremely small, if you put them in a bowl, it still fits - just my personal opinion). The salty cakes are quite delicious and the price is also more reasonable. The sweet cakes are fun to eat and cheap, 10k for a pack of 5-7 pieces, you can eat until you're full :D. This market sells a lot of cakes + miscellaneous items in front. If you're traveling, I think it's better to go to Dong Ba market.

(Translated by Google) The market sells reasonable prices from food to clothes. There are both new clothes sold all day, and 2nd hand clothes sold in the afternoon. Every time I go to Hue, I have to visit Tay Loc market (Original) Chợ bán giá hợp lý từ đồ ăn đến quần áo. Có cả quần áo mới bán cả ngày, lẫn quần áo 2hand bán buổi chiều. Bodies of Water
Hue, a city with a rich history and royal heritage, offers visitors an array of attractions to explore. One of the highlights is the Perfume River, which flows through the heart of the city. Spanning approximately 80 kilometers, this river derives its name from the fragrant flowers that fall into it from upstream orchards.
Peaceful place and the boat ride is so calm and memorable. You can even steer the boat for an experience to remember. The place is so serene and wonderful
Dokrik69 V — Google review
If you're taking a Grab, it seems like the drop-off point is set too far. So you can just stop near the new bridge, which will open on March 26, 2025. On the map, Grab directs you all the way to the end, which is a very quiet area with only two or three tofu stalls, where vendors aggressively offer you tofu. A bowl of tofu is only 10k VND, and it's actually quite good—just like a typical local experience. So you should give it a try!
Felicia H — Google review
Took a ~25 minutes boat ride for VND150K per pax. Nothing amazing, views were mehhh. Could be skipped.

The Perfume River runs gracefully through Hue, adding charm to the city with its calm flow and romantic scenery. A boat ride at sunset is unforgettable, with the golden light reflecting on the water. I enjoyed every moment and will highly recommend my friends to experience this magical river.
Hien N — Google review
Great River and site to visit in Hue. We took a night boat to listen to the palace music show. It was great and price is not expensive. Highly recommend!
Food 8 — Google review
It’s really nice for a journey along the water. The people selling boat rides WILL rip you off. A 200k ride for an hour quickly became 200k per person. Then our 1 hour ride was over in 15 minutes. Look it’s not expensive, I just didn’t appreciate being ripped off.
Stephen P — Google review
A peaceful place to admire the amazing skyline of Hue. It is ideal for a stroll along the riverbank and the park nearby. It was pity that we couldn't enjoy Hue folk song performances due to bad weather.

An amazing river at Hue This is the best nice river flow through the a city in Viet Nam. Its name "Sông Hương" meaning Perfume river. Once upon a time, the Nguyen empire choose this city because the river and the sight so harmony with nature. If you come to Hue. Take a dragon boat cruise along the river. Visit Thien Mu pagoda and tomb of the king. The boats and the river gives you an insight into the fisher families and Hue culture. Have a nice trip.

Bridge
Cầu Trường Tiền, also known as Trang Tien Bridge, is a 402.60m long bridge spanning the Perfume River in Hue, Vietnam. It features six spans of comb-shaped steel beams and is designed in Gothic architecture. The bridge is a popular spot for locals and tourists to visit souvenir shops offering lacquerware, handicrafts, and unique Hue souvenirs.
An absolute standout when the sun sets—Trường Tiền Bridge lights up in a stunning display of colors that reflect beautifully on the Perfume River. The ever-changing lights transition between vibrant green, purple, red, blue, yellow, and even a rainbow sequence, making it a photographer’s dream at night. The bridge itself is an iconic structure connecting the two sides of Huế, with easy access for pedestrians. It’s not a long walk, but it’s one you’ll want to take slowly to enjoy the views and atmosphere. The lighting setup is really well done—tasteful, modern, and enhances the whole riverside area. Definitely worth visiting just before dusk so you can catch the transformation as the lights begin to glow. A great spot for an evening stroll, night photography, or just soaking in Huế’s riverside charm.
John W — Google review
the bridge is narrow, nearly always crowded with cars and scooters and the pedestrian walkways are separated from the road by a fairly wide gap. There is some nice lighting that illuminates the bridge at night.
Bobby C — Google review
The iconic bridge in Hue is a stunning sight at night, with its vibrant colors changing every minute. It is truly a beautiful and mesmerizing sight to behold.
Hari F — Google review
A historical, iron bridge was great to see, but not WOW. Probably would have been better to see during the evening when the lights turn on. A walk across the bridge with a river view was great in spite of having many cars and scooters driving next to you.
21 W — Google review
As a tourist, Truong Tien Bridge in Hue left a lasting impression on me. The bridge's graceful iron arches and its historical significance immediately drew me in. Walking across it, I was captivated by the stunning views of the Perfume River, which offers a serene contrast to the bustling city around it. During the day, the bridge bustles with activity, providing a glimpse into the daily life of locals and fellow travelers. At night, the bridge transforms into a dazzling display of lights, reflecting beautifully on the water and creating a magical atmosphere. The blend of history, architecture, and natural beauty makes Truong Tien Bridge a memorable highlight of my visit to Hue.

Hue Night Walking Street is a historical and cultural hub located in the heart of Vietnam, along the Perfume River. It was once the capital city of Vietnam and served as the seat of power for the royal family. The city boasts a rich history, with its Imperial City declared a World Heritage Site. Today, Hue has transformed into a budget-friendly destination with various accommodations, bars, and restaurants in areas like Pham Ngu Lao and Vo Thi Sau street.

The Hue Historic Citadel, also known as the Imperial City of Hue, is a significant attraction in Vietnam and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It served as the royal palace for the Nguyen Dynasty for 140 years. The walled fortress spans 10 kilometers with impressive fortifications and features like the Imperial Enclosure and Forbidden Purple City. Visitors can explore attractions such as the ceremonial Thai Hoa Palace and Ngo Mon Gate within this historical complex.
The Imperial City (Hoàng thành), located inside the walled city of Huế, was the former royal capital of Vietnam during the Nguyen dynasty This is recognized by UNESCO as the world cultural heritage for over 30 years. I have experience many vicissitudes of history of Vietnam over centuries from many dynasties until Vietnam became a republic. The imperial city is still a long lasting and remain one of the most cherished values. Visitors will be able to learn about the 13 Nguyen dynasty kings who ruled Vietnam from 18th century to 1945. The many palace buildings that spread across the big compound was nice and grand and somehow you will feel that history has come alive from walking around. Note that the traveller could be spending half a day for walking tour.
Thanh T — Google review
Was really nice to be able to walk the walls of the citadel and the information panels along the way added all the relevant info. You could get an idea of how important the defences were in times gone by. Shame you couldn't get to upper levels in the towers. Take time to have a walk if you're in the area.

Must visit. If you’re visiting Hue, plan to visit Citadel along with the tombs. Do a 2 days tour and don’t rush. Guided tours will offer more. Excellent capital city. Rich history and great architecture. You’ll be satisfied with the experience.

Hue Imperial City was built in 1804 under King Gia Long and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1993. I love walking around the ancient palace and admire the beauty at every corner. Hundred years ago, it used to a enormous and glorious palace. Sadly, many constructions are damaged, though they are being restored, could not bring back the original spirit of the place. The atmosphere was quite sad in a rainy day.

Come to the palace for a photo op, especially in traditional costumes. It's not a particularly interesting place for a casual tour, but it's beautiful in its details. If you're visiting on a sunny day, be sure to bring an umbrella, as there's very little shade.
TatyanKA G — Google review
Overall, it was a solid experience, though I expected a bit more. The complex is huge, but the overall layout could be better organized. I didn’t take the audio guide because I don’t like using headphones — probably a mistake. The descriptions of the monuments were quite minimal and not very engaging. I also chose a bad day to visit since it was extremely hot.

The Hue Imperial City, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a vibrant complex within the historical citadel of Hue. Once the capital of Vietnam, it boasts over 100 remarkable architectural structures such as The Noon Gate and Thai Hoa Palace. Visitors can explore the area by bicycle or cyclo to take in its intriguing history and captivating scenery.
Certainly one should not miss a visit to this impressive and historic site when visiting Hue. That said, as with so many such important cultural assets forming the seats of government, the lavish adornments seem superfluous in many ways. I’m glad to have visited but it wasn’t my favorite place in Hue. I reserve that feeling for the quiet beauty of Tu Duc’s Mausoleum.
Reginald W — Google review
This site is very large and impressive, with beautiful gates, walls, and palaces that really give a sense of the history of the Nguyễn dynasty. Walking around feels like stepping back in time, and there is a lot to explore. Although there are many visitors, the area is so big that it never felt overcrowded. I enjoyed having the space to walk freely and take photos without too much disturbance. Overall, it was a wonderful visit – definitely one of the highlights of Hue and well worth including in a combo ticket for the historical sites.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A must-visit historical site in Huế! The Imperial City is grand and full of history — ancient architecture, beautiful gardens, and peaceful courtyards. You can easily spend hours exploring. Best to visit in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat. Truly impressive! 🌿🏯✨

What a beautiful place, full of history and nice buildings. One of them stands out on pictures. Tickets cost 200k for entrance fee. You will easily spend 2h minimum there. We decided to rent an electric bike for 90 min, so we could go around more easily without being too tired. It was worth it. I think it would have been better to go with a tour to understand the whole history and background behind the imperial city. So much to learn. Anyways, worth it!

We visited the Hue Imperial Palace as part of a shore excursion from our cruise ship, and it ended up being one of the highlights of the day. The palace complex offers a fascinating look into Vietnam’s royal history, with impressive architecture, decorative gates, and peaceful courtyards that are great for exploring and taking photos. Many areas have been thoughtfully restored and look beautiful, giving a good sense of how grand the palace once was. Some sections, however, are still under renovation or show visible wear, which slightly affects the overall experience. More detailed signage or explanations inside certain buildings would also help visitors understand the historical context better. The grounds are quite large, so comfortable shoes and water are essential, especially on hot days. The layout is easy to navigate, and there are shaded spots to rest along the way. Overall, the Hue Imperial Palace is a meaningful and memorable place to visit, especially if you are coming from a cruise tour and have limited time. It is rich in history, visually interesting, and absolutely worth seeing. With a bit more restoration and improved informational displays, it could easily be a five-star attraction.

Wonderful place reflecting the Hue Dynasty of Kings. This was covered in our day tour of Hue city. Fascinated by the facts tour guide, Ryan of venus travels, shared with us. Portions are being rebuilt. On the way to Hue, we passed a wonderful bridge and an incense village. there is a lot of history to cover here, it was very very hot, so be prepared with sunglasses, hats, umbrellas, water..visited Hue imperial city – the palace of 13 Nguyen Kings with Ngo Mon Gate, Library, Thai Hoa Palace, Nine Dynastic Urns, etc.

It reminds me of my childhood when I first visited this place with my family. It was very peaceful and beautiful. A lot of walking which was also fun but we also rented a golf cart with someone driving us around. It’s amazing that we get to look into the past, how the royals of the Nguyen Dynasty lived.

20k for a “large” size cup Che that is made up of 90% ice and 10% the actual content. Taste was very bland, as you can imagine as it’s pretty much just ice. Definitely nothing to brag to your dogs about. Top that off with the grotesque “service” here, if you can even call it that, you have a recipe for an extremely uneventful experience.

Dong Khanh Emperor Tomb, located just five kilometers from the city center, is a stunning tomb complex that took over thirty-five years to complete. The architecture is a blend of Vietnamese and Western European elements, reflecting the influence of various emperors and architects over the years. Despite dying at a young age, Dong Khanh's tomb showcases an impressive Europeanized style. The site also features beautiful painted walls, statues, and a temple with red and gold interior.
Beautiful site, as for the tomb itself, it is grey color and not very special. I was alone when I visited it and the temple after the main entrance - with the interior all in red - is just a wonder. The park with pine trees is very quiet and gives an extraordinary feeling of being in another country.

Bun Bo Hue O Phụng is a small, popular restaurant in Hue known for its delicious and authentic bun bo hue. The owners have extensive experience in making these traditional noodles, which has earned them a loyal following of locals and visitors alike. Unlike other eateries, this place serves up their specialty without pig trotters and blood sausage but still offers an undeniable taste. The flavorful beef and strong broth are the highlights here.
My first bowl of Bun Bo Hue in Hue. The texture of the noodles and flavour of the soup is very different from other parts of Vietnam. Meat is tender, not too chewy. Can see this place is popular amongst locals as well.

Highly recommended! One of the best places for Bun Bo in Hue. There are two styles of Bun Bo in Hue: one is bland, while the other is rich and has a hint of fermented shrimp sauce. This restaurant offers the second style. I particularly love the Bun Bo with eye-round steak here. While Bun Bo Hue is mainly sold in the morning, this place serves it all day long.

A guide brought us here because we wanted to eat like the local. And we were the only non-local at this small eatery in a dark alley at dinner time. We had the beef and pork noodle soup on a very short table and chairs. Soup was good, and the pork balls were better. The beef and pork were ok. There was a piece of pig blood cake with we didn't dare to try. Recommended.

Apparently this place is very famous among locals for bun bo. They are famous with the pork cakes, but they dont have crab cakes. The soup is less flavourful than the bun bo we usually have. Nem Lụi O Đen is a popular dish in Vietnam, particularly known for its association with a restaurant called Lac Thien. However, as its popularity grew, a similar establishment opened next door with an almost identical name and menu but operated by staff who pretended to be deaf-mute.

Because the day we went, the rain was so strong that the shop was a bit exposed to the wind. - About the food: Nothing to complain about. Nothing to complain about, nothing to complain about. WHAT IS IMPORTANT MUST BE REPEATED 3 TIMES!!! The cakes are delicious, fragrant and clean, and the price is also very reasonable 💯💯 A large part of me decided that after returning, I had to go back to find the shop's address to review because the guy selling the cakes was so cute, enthusiastic and cheerful. He saw us eating and even showed us how to peel the cake to make it more local ✨even though it was a very stormy day and there were no customers at the restaurant except us, the uncle and aunt were still super cute and chatted happily, making me feel very familiar when eating here. Due to the unfavorable weather and accidentally having a chance to meet O Thuy restaurant, I feel that there is nothing more wonderful than this coincidence helping me have an unforgettable experience here. If I have the opportunity to return to Hue, I will definitely come back to support ❤️ (Original) Vào 1 chiều mưa tầm tã và bể kế hoạch đi Đại Nội, tụi mình quyết định tấp đại và random vào quán này để ăn bánh trú mưa. A beautiful and unique place, the pagoda sits on a hill, peaceful and serene, right next to the picturesque Perfume River. There are tasty local foods and great seating spots by the river. Nearby you can enjoy kayaking, swimming in the river, and listening to the famous Hue folk songs. We visited Thiên Mụ Pagoda as part of our shore excursion from the cruise ship, and it ended up being one of the nicest stops on the tour. The pagoda sits on a hill overlooking the Perfume River, and the views alone make the visit worthwhile. The grounds are peaceful, clean, and beautifully maintained, with plenty of space to walk around and take photos. The architecture is elegant and iconic, especially the seven-story tower at the entrance. Inside the complex, the gardens, pathways, and temple buildings create a calm and serene atmosphere that feels less crowded than other major attractions. Our guide shared the history and significance of the pagoda, which added depth to the experience. Even without a guide, the cultural and spiritual presence of the site comes through clearly. Overall, Thiên Mụ Pagoda is a beautiful and relaxing place to visit in Huế. It is easy to explore, offers great river views, and is an excellent stop on any cruise tour or day trip.

Situated near the center of Hue city, this mausoleum is renowned for its harmonious structure and elegant architecture, standing out as one of the most beautiful mausoleums from the Nguyen Dynasty.
This was by far my favorite mausoleum in Hue. It is set within stunning gardens filled with tall pine trees, peaceful ponds, and traditional Vietnamese architecture. It’s a beautifully laid-out complex with lots of open space to walk around, relax, and take in the views. The area is well maintained and shows great care in its restoration efforts. Everything from the stone paths to the wooden pavilions feels thoughtfully preserved. The large lake in the center reflects the buildings and trees beautifully, adding to the tranquil atmosphere. We spent about 45 minutes here, but you could easily stay longer if you enjoy photography or just want to soak up the peaceful surroundings. Personally I preferred this over the other royal tombs in the area. The site was much larger than I thought it would be, and was lovely to walk around. The grounds were serine and very well kept. The Tomb of Tu Duc is a truly serene and beautiful place. It's not just a tomb, but a huge complex of pavilions, temples, and lakes, all set within a peaceful, pine-covered valley. Khai Dinh Tomb, located near Hue City on Chau Chu Mountain, was built for Emperor Khai Dinh of the Nguyen dynasty who passed away in 1925. Despite being unpopular due to his pro-French stance and language reforms, the mausoleum is a grand structure blending Eastern and Western architectural styles. It features dragon sculptures, an imperial court with statues, a lavishly furnished palace room, and a modest temple housing the emperor's grave.
This was the first of the two tombs I visited—and it makes a striking impression. The climb up a long flight of stairs is definitely a bit of a workout, but the reward at the top is worth it. The exterior looks dark and commanding, and once inside, the level of detail in the decoration is stunning. The interiors are incredibly ornate, with intricate mosaics, vibrant tiles, and elaborate dragon motifs covering nearly every surface. It’s visually overwhelming in the best way—feels more like a palace shrine than a mausoleum. The contrast between the somber exterior and colorful interior really stood out. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Huế. Tuesday 7 am–5:30 pm Wednesday. 7 am–5:30 pm Thursday 7 am–5:30 pm Friday 7 am–5:30 pm Saturday 7 am–5:30 pm Sunday 7 am–5:30 pm Monday 7 am–5:30 pm

An absolutely stunning and unique imperial tomb. The mix of Vietnamese and French architectural styles is unlike anything else in Hue, with dark stone exteriors leading to an explosion of colour inside. The interior is covered in intricate glass and porcelain mosaics, and the level of craftsmanship is incredible. The climb up the steps is worth it for the detail and atmosphere. A must-see if you’re exploring Hue’s imperial history.

This site is very impressive with detailed architecture that mixes Vietnamese and French styles. The mosaics inside are beautiful and worth seeing. However, it is quite crowded with many tourists, and the area is not very large, so the visit can feel a bit short compared to other tombs in Hue. I visited using a combo ticket that included several sites, which made it better value for money. Overall, it’s an interesting place to see, especially if you enjoy history and architecture, but don’t expect a quiet experience.

The tomb itself is a masterpiece, blending Eastern and Western architecture in a way I've never seen before. The details are stunning—from the grand dragon staircase (as seen in our photos!) to the intricate mosaics inside. Beyond the amazing structure, the atmosphere is very special, and the views of the surrounding hills and nature are just beautiful. It was a memorable and wonderful experience for our entire group. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Vietnam!

Nice to walk around. Inside the building is beautiful and well worth a visit. Also a beautiful view of the mountain. Just be warned there are 127 steps to the top! The statues were also very cool to see. Easy to get a taxi there and back from the centre of town. 150k entry per adult, worth getting the combo ticket at the citadel if you are visiting multiple tombs. Very busy at 3pm!

This extremely ornate mausoleum is a must see. It exemplifies the influence of Chinese style dynasties as the influence the French has in the style of objects preserved with former rulers. This one has a lot of stairs, so make sure to wear something comfortable and beware of the hot season.

Really lovely palace. There aren't many information plaques so maybe the audioguide would be better for those wanting to know the history of the place. It's not very big and will only take 30-45 minutes (without an audioguide). There isn't too much shade so make sure to bring a hat on sunny days.
Delia W — Google review
The mausoleum was pretty impressive with fantastically detailed decoration. A slightly over-long video with English subtitles gives useful background on this and other notable historic complexes in the area, so worth a watch if your eyes don't glaze over or your brain melts with the plethora of phonetically challenging characters. Seen on a very wet day.

Bistro
Bánh khoái Hồng Mai is a must-try dish in Hue, Vietnam. This crispy pancake resembles the southern Vietnamese dish Bánh Xèo but is smaller and thicker. The locals use egg yolk to give it a yellow hue, and it becomes spongy when fried. Served with fresh greens, herbs, star fruit, and sour bananas, this dish offers a delightful mix of flavors.
If you are looking for a place to enjoy authentic Hue-style banh khoai and nem lui, then Hong Mai restaurant is an option not to be missed. Located in the city center, Hong Mai restaurant is one of the famous restaurants, visited by locals and tourists for many years. Restaurant space The restaurant has an airy and clean space, creating a comfortable feeling for diners. Although it is not a luxury restaurant, the rustic and simple decoration brings a cozy and close feeling, true to the traditional style of Hue restaurants. Food quality The banh khoai here is crispy, golden yellow, full of shrimp, meat, bean sprouts and fresh vegetables. The special highlight of the dish is the rich, delicious dipping sauce, mixed according to a traditional recipe, adding a unique flavor to each piece of cake. Hong Mai's grilled spring rolls are fragrant, grilled over hot coals, so they have a rich, soft, sweet taste from the meat. When eaten with rice paper, raw vegetables and the restaurant's special dipping sauce, each piece of grilled spring rolls melts in your mouth, leaving a lasting impression. Price The price at Hong Mai is very reasonable, suitable for many customers from students to those who love Hue cuisine. The quality of the food is completely worth the money spent, and many diners also think that this is one of the places with the "softest" prices when wanting to enjoy Hue specialties. Service The restaurant staff is friendly, quick, and always ready to serve customers. The dishes are prepared and served quite quickly, without making customers wait long. This makes the dining experience at Hong Mai even more complete. Pros • Delicious food, authentic Hue flavor Unique dipping sauce, hard to find elsewhere Reasonable price Fast, friendly service Minus points The restaurant can be a bit crowded during peak hours, so if you want to enjoy a quieter space, come during off-peak hours of the day. In conclusion, Banh khoai Nem lui Hong Mai is an ideal place to enjoy traditional Hue cuisine. With unique flavors, special dipping sauce and affordable prices, this is definitely a restaurant worth visiting when you have the opportunity to visit Hue.

Nice local food place within a block of our hotel. Busy. No English and they didn't understand Google translate either. We figured things out with some sign language in between some broken Vietnamese and English. Very tasty crispy pancakes, and grilled pork. Great at filling the sides salad and veggies to wrap with your meats. I'd say minimum spend here is $130k VND might feed people if you are small eaters with 1 order of each of their 2 dishes: 9 lemon grass nem pork skewers with rice paper wrappers (all in 1 order) plus 2 banh khaoi (also 1 order) both come with veggies and the homemade (Hue area specific) sauce. The sauce has nice flavor but abit thick. I like the same dishes but prefer it with the traditional fish sauce found in other areas of Vietnam. Still fun to try for the experience while you're in the area. My son loves the food without any sauce. Quite flavorful as is.
FQL — Google review
Bánh Khoái Hồng Mai is a place where simplicity is the secret weapon: the menu is famously tiny, two dishes, maybe three if the stars align, but each is executed with precision and care. The main event is the bánh khoái, a crispy, golden rice pancake stuffed with shrimp, pork, quail egg, sausage, and bean sprouts. It arrives sizzling, slightly oily but in the best way, ready to be wrapped in fresh herbs and dipped in the magical peanut-fish sauce that turns every bite into a little fireworks show. The nem lui, pork skewers grilled on lemongrass, are equally addictive. Roll them yourself with rice paper, add a few herbs, maybe a dab of chilli, and you have a handheld masterpiece. The restaurant itself is wide, airy, and clean, think local charm with no frills, just the way it should be. Service is unexpectedly warm and hands-on; staff will show exactly how to eat the dishes without looking like a clueless tourist. Prices are a touch higher than street-level options, but that’s a fair trade for quality, consistency, and experience. Locals mingle with tourists, creating a lively, friendly chaos. Expect a wait during peak hours, but it’s worth it. This is not a place for choice overload. It’s a place to focus, to understand Huế through two dishes that demand attention. Crisp, fresh, and comforting, Bánh Khoái Hồng Mai delivers a perfect snapshot of traditional Huế cuisine, rough edges and all.
Joseph L — Google review
There's only 2 menu here, banh khoai and nem lui. They make the banh khoai upon ordering so it's guaranteed to be crispy. I didn't order the nem lui but I heard you can order by pieces? One of the staff knows english, even if they dont, they will still teach tourists how to eat the banh khoai. I feel it is quite good, a mix of different texture but the meat a bit tough.
Whitney Y — Google review
“Only” 2 dishes on the menu and this is exactly why you want to stop here if you are in Hue. Nem Lui (pork skewers) are delicious and you cant stop eat them. Banh khoai (pancake) with shrimps are heavenly crunchy and tasty. Eat, love, repeat.
ELISA C — Google review
You know it’s going to be good when a restaurant only has 2 items on the menu, and this is no exception. Don’t skip either item, and don’t forget to generously apply the hot sauce and peanut sauce!
Justin H — Google review
As they have just couple of items on menu, its made to perfection. I was instantly in love with their Banh khoai, the crispy filled pancake. The rest was super fresh and tasty, too. Service: charming, speaking English, explaining how to eat Hue way, and very honest- as i wanted to leave tip, they asked 3 times, if im sure, if im not mixing up the notes... so sweet. It is not a fancy restaurant, more on the basic side, but do yourself a favour, get off the beaten (tourist) track and have a lunch there. You will come for more :)
Anda J — Google review
I here to try the rice pancake, super crispy but a little mild in tastes to my preferences, have to add some chilli sauces. The grill meat is fairly averages, i see they serves ice tea to some customer but not all, overall good to experience if around the area.

Bà Gái Hue Beef Noodle Soup, also known as Bun Bo Hue, is a must-try dish in the city of Hue. Similar to Pho Bo but with round thick noodles, this flavorful soup combines sour, sweet, and spicy flavors. Toppings can include beef or pork knuckles, crab balls or meatballs, and beansprouts. Unlike its more famous cousin Pho, Bun Bo Hue offers a unique and equally delicious experience that is distinctively different.
With just one night in Huế, there was no question we had to seek out bún bò Huế in its birthplace. And Bà Gái delivered exactly what I was hoping for clean, deeply flavorful broth, rich with lemongrass and slow-simmered depth, yet light enough to keep you coming back for more. But the real star of the show? The fresh noodles soft, silky, and carrying the broth like they were born for it. This isn’t the firmer, mass-produced version you find in the south. This is Huế. This is how it’s meant to be. On a chilly Huế night, a steaming bowl of this spicy, fragrant masterpiece warms you up in a way that lingers, long after the last sip of broth is gone. Before the night retires, this is exactly the kind of meal you want to end your day with.
Jackson L — Google review
Broth is average, plenty of room for seasoning to your liking, which can be a good thing, but lacking in bone richness. The veggies plate is great. Service is mediocre. I asked for a cha Hue, 3rd time was served and it was incorrect but they didn't charge me for it.
Ann C — Google review
I saw this place from my hotel window and thought I’d give it a go and man did they deliver! The first thing I noticed was the very fast service, literally zero waiting time. I had their Dac Biet and it was amazing, very juicy and tender meat and the serving size is huge.
Michaelangelo L — Google review
Unfortunately, bun bo hue are abundant in this city. Thus, the standard is pretty high. This one however doesn't stand out and the flavor was just okay. Not bad, but nothing special either. The service is great though! They also have a large space, plenty of parking, and is very open for locals and foreigners.

This is such a really good place for family to try A Great Spot for Hue Local Specialties! This is a fantastic place for families to enjoy authentic Hue local dishes, with flavors that really stand out from others. I’ve been here several times, and it’s always bustling with both locals and tourists. The restaurant is located on a large and busy street, making it very easy to find and convenient for parking. The portions are great too—just one bag per person is enough for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I’ll definitely come back the next time I visit Hue!

Nice example of Bun Bo Hue. All the toppings are great. Meatballs are exceptional and pork hock is done perfectly. Broth is light but complex. The huyet coagulated blood cooked just enough to keep a nice texture

Good Bun Bo Hue place, reasonable price, love the broth, savory, not heavy but still flavorful. The place is a bit hot despite having many fans
Phan A — Google review
We drove 2.5 hours from Da Nang to Hue for a day trip. We starved ourselves and avoided breakfast, in anticipation of eating Bun Bo Hue at its place of origin. We're huge fans of Bun Bo Hue and we had very high expectations. Our driver recommended this place and it was the first stop on our Hue tour. What a fantastic find this was. We ordered the 'Tham Cam' or fully loaded, which came with all the essential cuts of meat that make up a bowl of the famous noodle soup. It was 50k VND, it was generous in both vermicelli noodles and meats. A common misconception about Bun Bo Hue is that it should be spicy from the get go. It is not. The base of the soup should be sweet, heavily scented with lemongrass and have a generous hint of fermented prawn paste, which this soup has copious amounts of. It was a very hearty and deeply flavourful soup. The spiciness comes from adding the home made chilli paste and pickled chilli vinegar. You add the chilli paste slowly until the spice level is right. It's a really nice chilli paste, not the best I've had, but really good and compliments the dish. It was fantastic, 4 bowls of the special bun bo hue devoured. A special mention to the nem and cha they had, specially made in banana leaves. It was so good we ate and then took away more. You can't get this stuff and at these small prices. We were eating it until evening. Made a great snack. This is a great place if you want really good, hearty Bun Bo Hue. Highly recommended.

Bun Bo Hue My Tam is a must-try dish in the city of Hue, Vietnam. It's a local favorite and has gained recognition from both national and international sources as one of the most delicious Vietnamese dishes. The original noodle soup with beef in Hue stands out due to its big vermicelli threads and rich-flavored broth. This dish has gained worldwide fame, partly thanks to Anthony Bourdain's influence.
With my family, good services. 65k is reasonable price for full bowl 🥣

Worst experience eating in Vietnam so far. They served a “tourist” version of bun bo hue. When I pointed this out, they threw in a couple more toppings but this STILL was NOT how they served the locals, which included pork trotters. The flavours were not anything memorable either and the soup was room temperature, so really they have no redeeming factors. AVOID
Rufina ( — Google review
No prices displayed. We walk in and lady charged 65,000 vdn for a bowl of bun bo. Go to Bà Gai next door. They charge half price for the same.
S M — Google review
It’s ok if you pass by and wanna stop over for a bowl of Bun Bo Hue, but not a must-try place. To me, the Bun Bo is ok, it doesn’t have a very strong taste so it might be good for foreigners. Reasonable toppings. The price might be high for local but I think it’s ok for tourists, cuz Bun Bo in Saigon, for example, have similar price. I like the fact that the beef and pork leg are soft enough. Mình order tô thập cẩm, phần thịt cũng nhiều, nước vị nhẹ thanh. Ăn ổn.
Nguyen W — Google review
The Bún Bò here is fairly average in taste — not the most flavorful version I’ve had, but it’s still a decent option if you’re craving a warm, comforting bowl. The portion is generous enough for a filling meal, and the ingredients are fresh, just missing a bit of the depth or richness that makes a bowl truly memorable. What stood out more was the friendly and supportive staff. They were warm-hearted and attentive, making the dining experience pleasant and easy. Even with limited English, they tried their best to accommodate requests and were always smiling. One major plus: this is one of the few Bún Bò spots that stays open late, which is a real bonus if you’re looking for a late-night meal. It’s convenient for travelers or night owls who want something more than fast food after dark. Overall, a decent choice for a late, local bite, especially if you value kind service and need something quick and satisfying.

This Bun Bo Hue place was recommended by a friend who lives in Huế. The facility was clean and the soup was delicious. Everyone should try Bun Bo Hue. If you are not that adventurous, you can order with beef only, without all the other ingredients like: pigs blood, cartilage, crab balls, etc. I also had the fresh orange juice. The oranges have, “Green” rind and look like a big lime, but the juice is orange and very sweet. The owners speak enough English to communicate. Our total bill for two people was 130k vnd.

Cơm Hến 17 is a popular dish in Hue, Vietnam, known for its vibrant mix of flavors and textures. It features cooked rice topped with baby basket clams stir-fried with garlic, onion, fish sauce, pepper, and mint leaves. The dish also includes crispy pork skins, roasted peanuts, shrimp paste, and fresh greens. Some variations may include rice noodles instead of rice and additional ingredients like julienned green apples and glass noodles.
We tried the com hen and bun hen here. Both were very good. Just add the light broth to your liking and mix it together. The mussels, mushroom and peanuts give this dish earthy tones, the pork scratchings give a satisfying little crunch and it’s very moreish. A light meal and very cheap so you could perhaps try a few things on the menu. It’s very popular with locals and has that local vibe with little chairs and small metal tables. There are lots of places for Com Hen on this street along the river. Definitely try this while in Hue!
Manpuku W — Google review
Very busy place mostly because it's cheap and has a lot of seating. Parking directly in front is limited for the amount of people there. You can park motorbikes on the opposite side of the road as well. It's very noisy there and the shouts to call the food orders. They service fairly quickly. I ordered Cơm Hến (miniature mussels) which are only found around this region. I didn't even see them in the bowl since they're small to begin with and even smaller when cooked. The other items were sides. Most of the food in Hue is typically bland to begin with. Culturally this region eats bland. The food isn't bad and it's not spectacular. It's good cheap food. I would give this place 3.5 stars mostly for good service.

A Huế local specialty that you must try. We were recommended to try this place by our Grab driver. The service was very nice. The lady recommended to us what to order and she showed us how to eat it. The dishes bursted with a lot of flavour. The atmosphere was alright but the cutlery and the tables needed a bit of a clean.

Com Hen (boiled clam with rice) eatery, with clam rice noodles, clam porridge and lots of local desserts. Clam porridge is really tasty, can taste the sweetness of the clams. Ram It rice cake and banh nam (rice cake with pork and shrimp) is also good. The place is along the river and very rustic and simple. Resident dogs are sweet too. Ended up coming twice.

Clearly states 12k a bowl on the menu. Ordered 2 bowls and lady ask for 30k. Fantastic math skills. I mean ok, it was only a 6k scam and you can laugh at it, but it’s not about the amount, but the dishonesty. It just a bad taste in the mouth. Best to let it go and not argue with these kind of people and move on with life. And it wasn’t even really good. Good thing I saw the menu or maybe she would ask 100 or 200k or even 400k like they did to another foreign patron. Who knows with these kind of people. If you’re a foreigner coming here, just keep that in mind.

Our local Hue guide brought us to this place as we’d asked about a local tailor shop. The ladies at this shop were super friendly, courteous, and obliging. We got a men’s bush shirt made out of fabric procured elsewhere and another one out of linen that we bought there. Both fit well and turned around in less than 24h. I bought a couple of Ao Dai’s…ready made from the shop. The fit was perfect on one and needed a bit of adjusting on the other. The clothes weren’t cheap but I was also not looking for a deep bargain. I wanted good quality tailoring and fit. Hopefully, the clothes will last us a while!

I bought a made-to-measure silk pyjamas from Gia Huy in February 2024. Initially I was happy with my purchase: while the seams were not very clean, the fabric was nice and the price was reasonable. However, 6 months later the pyjamas started to dissolve (for want of a better word): it developed large holes in several places - see the attached photos. If I had bought the pyjamas locally, I would demand a refund.

Excellent tailors and staff! I was recommended here by a friend who comes to Hue often. They did a fantastic job creating beautiful dresses from photos that I gave them, and additionally made me a suit and altered some pants and shirts. I highly recommend this store!

I had such a great experience at Gia Huy tailor. I highly recommend them. The ladies in the shop were so friendly and helpful. Unfortunately I didn't get the name of the lady who helped me, but she was really sweet and spoke very good English. I took forever to decide on colors and the staff patiently helped me. And then my clothes were ready the same day with one fitting. I got a top and pants for about $60usd. Also the ladies did a bunch of alterations on my own clothes for me and it was extremely cheap and fast. I wish I'd had more time in Hue because I would definitely get more things made by them!!
