Fine dining restaurant
Restaurant
Kualao Restaurant is a popular and upscale dining spot in Vientiane, offering authentic Lao cuisine in a charming setting. The restaurant is known for its courteous staff and traditional Lao dishes such as papaya salad, handmade Lao sausage, deep-fried Mekong fish, and spring rolls. Visitors can also enjoy traditional Lao dance and music performances while dining.
This restaurant is one of the most popular spots in Vientiane and the perfect place to try authentic south asia cuisine. It’s set in a beautifully converted traditional Lao wooden house, and the charming decor makes you feel right at home while giving you a taste of the local culture. Because it’s such a popular place, I’d definitely recommend making a reservation before you go. When you arrive, you’ll notice a vintage car right at the entrance it’s a great spot for snapping a few memorable photos.Parking is super convenient, with a spacious area right in front of the restaurant. If you prefer, they even offer valet service, which is a nice touch. The evening we went, there was live music playing, and it really added to the cozy, relaxing vibe. We enjoyed listening to traditional Lao songs while having our meal. I tried the river fish, and it was absolutely delicious juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Also I like the soup too much. Seafood soup was great. If you’re visiting Vientiane, this place should be on your must-visit list. Great food, a unique atmosphere, and helpful staff it’s an experience you’ll remember.
AHMET T — Google review
Kualao is a renowned Lao cuisine restaurant, a favorite dining spot of several Japanese prime ministers. It offers an authentic taste of Lao tradition, served in a charming colonial French villa, accompanied by traditional dance performances. The menu features many enticing Lao specialties, including Laap (Lao national dish – minced meat with herbs, vegetables, and sticky rice, available in various types), Tam Mak Hoong (papaya salad), Sai Oua (sour Lao sausage), Khao Niew (sticky rice), Ping Kai (grilled chicken), crispy seaweed, and silkworms. There’s a Lao saying: “Nang hai bang thi, ni hai bang bon”, meaning “mind your manners when eating and seating.” So, be sure to book a table near the stage for the best view of the performances or arrive before 6:00 PM (performance starts at 7pm) as stage-side tables usually fill up by then—especially on weekends. One more note: please close doors gently—this beautiful building is over 100 years old (as kindly posted on signs).
Phu D — Google review
It's worth trying this popular Laotian restaurant that specialises in authentic traditional Laos dishes. Usually busy during dinner service so advance reservations recommended. There are live traditional Laos music and dance performances every day at 7 pm, so it is best to arrive for this live entertainment. Dishes were tasty with some interesting options that we did not see at other restaurants. Very lively atmosphere and gets very loud inside when full house. Kitchen service was efficient and food came out quickly. Dessert was also done well and great way to finish the meal. Prices are expensive compared to other similar restaurants
Albert L — Google review
The restaurant has 30 years of experience and specializes in Lao cuisine. My favorite dish is Duck Larb, which is served with fresh vegetables. Almost all the dishes here are rich in flavors, combining sour, spicy, sweet, bitter, and tangy tastes. The accompanying vegetables help balance the flavors of the dishes. The restaurant attracts many foreign customers, and the staff is very friendly.
Nhu M — Google review
The service was good overall, and the food tasted great. Unfortunately, I found a hair on my vegetables, which really affected the experience. What was disappointing is that there was no apology from the manager or any offer to make up for the mistake—not even a small discount. I expected better handling of the situation given the circumstances.
Jr M — Google review
Kualao is a must-visit for authentic Lao cuisine in Vientiane. The duck larb was bursting with herbs and flavor, perfectly paired with brown sticky rice, such a fun and unique way to enjoy the meal. Beautiful setting, great service, and a true cultural experience.
Niskie F — Google review
Let me tell you about my recent dinner at Kualao Restaurant in Vientiane. Now, I wouldn't normally go for fancy places, but this one was a real treat. It's a bit on the upscale side, but the atmosphere was fantastic. The restaurant itself is beautiful. It has this whole traditional Lao vibe, and they even had dancers and musicians performing throughout the night. It wasn't over the top or cheesy, but it added this wonderful cultural touch to the whole experience. Now, the most important part: the food! Let me tell you, it was incredible. They focus on Lao cuisine, and everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. I tried this set menu they have with a bunch of small dishes, and it was the perfect way to sample a bunch of different things. There was this one beef salad with lemongrass that completely blew me away. Honestly, the whole night was fantastic. The food was amazing, the service was top-notch, and the atmosphere was just unbeatable. If you're looking for a special night out in Vientiane, I can't recommend Kualao Restaurant highly enough. Just be prepared for the bill to be a bit steeper than your average restaurant. But hey, sometimes you gotta treat yourself, right?
Thanh L — Google review
This was the most expensive restaurant I went to in Vientiane. My lunch bill was around 600,000+ kip. The restaurant is in a large French colonial home with very interesting architectural look to it. Interior is kept to its original colonial roots with an impressive wooden stairs, high ceiling and tile floors. I had: Duck Larb - that was pretty good. Flavorful and interesting as a dish. Luang Prabang sausage. I tasted great, specially with the chili sauce. River weed - it has the texture of a seaweed snack, but it is made from some leafy vegetable. The taste is subtle. Good to add some crunch to your dishes. Tumeric latte - that was decent. I can’t really pick out the tumeric from the flavor. Rosella tea - that had a stronger, sweeter punch. It was very refreshing. Lemon tea - that was a familiar tastebas south asian. Great for the hot day’s walk outside. I heard of the cultural performance at night, but I was not able to experience that. They do charge that 10% service fee on top of the 10% vat.

Khop Chai Deu, known as "The Place Where the World Meets," is a renowned establishment in Vientiane that has been serving a diverse range of dishes since 1998. This popular spot offers a fusion of Lao, Asian, and Western cuisine, catering to various culinary preferences. Whether you're in the mood for traditional Lao stew, a classic cheeseburger, or flavorful pasta, Khop Chai Deu has something for everyone.
The indoor dining area is very pleasant. The Lao platter, which served a variety of Lao dishes, was delicious. I particularly enjoyed the fried river weed and the stew, which had a rich, natural flavor. The sausage was juicy and flavorful. The cocktails were also very tasty and well-presented. I highly recommend dining or drinking here. In particular, I suggest taking advantage of this opportunity to try a variety of traditional Lao foods!
B — Google review
This is a good upscale place that serves local dishes but gives touristic vibes just around the corner of Vientiane downtown. The outdoor vibe is good and open, while the indoor ones provide comfortable seating but actually gives a pub-like vibe. The foods really taste good especially the local dishes although the spring rolls were more to the Vietnamese side than Laos style. I’m giving 4 star on the foods in terms of portions. The price are a little not par with the portions. Expect to get a portion for single portion if you intend to share. The staff and service are pretty good as expected of Laoatians. They spoke well in English and actually went out of their way to provide what we wanted and how we wanted our foods and drinks. Reasonable waiting time and not much variety of food options on the menu but enough.
Jenny W — Google review
A very good place to have beers and drinks and to have good food. Their Mango Sticky rice was so so, in Prawns fried rice were just prawns placed upon normal rice., someone mentioned same for their Prawns Pad Thai too. Rest everything was amazing. Place had Live music and was great to have dinner while your stay at Vientiane.
Singh G — Google review
This is an amazing place to go especially for Dinner. All the food taste great and authentic. We ordered the fried fish, fried chicken wings, papaya salad, Lao sausage, chicken satay and a vegetable dish. We went on a Thursday night and there is a live jazz band. The singer, pianist, cellist, guitarist and saxophonist are awesome.
Ian B — Google review
The evening ambience of the place was excellent, nice setups with soft music. Their food was however a huge let down. 6 of us ordered 9 dishes - only the pork rib was good. Kitchen team needs to improve!!!
Durian — Google review
Hotel recommended this restaurant 1min walk away. Upon seeing the menu I already suspected that I won’t get authentic Laotian food - the menu tried to cover everything from Indian to Thai to Chinese to western. The clientele look and sound foreign too. Food ended up tasting much better than expected. The only issue tho, is that the shrimps in pad Thai tastes rather off They accept credit card

Chill Hangout Spot in Vientiane If you’re looking for a relaxed vibe in Vientiane, this place is a gem. Cozy seating, good music, and friendly locals make it a great spot to unwind. The drinks are refreshing, the food hits the spot, and the atmosphere is just what you need after a day of exploring. Definitely one of my favorite places to chill in the city.

Ambience was good, not too loud and service was good. Food was alright as well with the beef noodles being our favourite.

Modern French restaurant
L'Adresse de Tinay is a renowned French restaurant in Vientiane, offering a fusion of French and Lao cuisine. The head chef, Tinay Inthavong, brings over 20 years of experience from France to create traditional French dishes with an original touch of Asian flavors. Situated in the heart of the city, this intimate and chic bistro provides an upscale dining experience using fresh local ingredients.
Excellent food and service. We felt it was the best meal during our short stay in Vientiane. Spinach “cappuccino” soup was great, as well as the main dish and dessert. A slight blemish to the overall experience was the overcooked side dish (muchroom and potato).
Charn Y — Google review
Stopped by for lunch with a friend while I was in Laos. Great soups, tilapia was wonderful, Salmon too. Simple, understated but chic atmosphere. Would definitely come back again. The crepes sounded delicious will have to try another time.
Saf A — Google review
Hugely disappointing after the reviews here on google maps. Food is incredibly expensive and for vegetarians, the best option is to go for the set dinner- vegetable pie and mash and veg. The ravioli pasta was undercooked, dry and the mushroom stuffing was bitter. The 115,000 kip Caesar salad wasn't creamy, just tasted of anchovies and didn't use romaine but other greens which were wilted. Overall the food was too salty. The recommended dessert- the Black Forest, was watery cream and "jam". The service seemed to be run by one person who I assume was the manager who was friendly. She took most orders and was also in the kitchen. We asked for the bill a couple times but only got it from her when she got out of the kitchen.
B I — Google review
A pleasant but not particularly memorable meal at L'Adresse - the execution was mostly good, though there were some oddities in the dishes that just didn't work. The goat's cheese pastries were more like stingily-filled spring rolls, the cassoulet lacked the richness and comfort you'd normally expect and it came complete with a strange foam on top. Given the price and reputation, the dishes here need to be elevated somewhat!
Connie C — Google review
Went there for lunch. They have reasonably priced lunch set (48,000 kip) which includes large soup or salad, steaks (chickens, beefs, porks), and desserts. The food is delicious. The service is ok, some waiters seem to more ready thsn others. The inside area is quite dark woth mosquitoes.
Mai S — Google review
Food is excellent. Products are fresh. The restaurant is classy and delicate. However, the owner should take himself a bit less seriously and considers his clients a bit more. It was cold, the A/C was blowing at us (half of us got sick the following day) and even we complained many times it was really hard to have him fixing that issue. He just wouldn’t believe us, or falsely thought he other customers were happy with the situation (we asked them - they weren’t). He should relax a bit and treat his customers with less haughtiness and L’Adresse will be really... an excellent address.
Jordy S — Google review
Stopped in for lunch today - had the excellent value set lunch menu. Very nice food across all three courses (the pastry especially was impressive, took me back to vacations in France), with highly competent cooking and attentive professional staff.

Very nice french food. Solid menu, not too long, insures quality. Wine selection is of course french oriented but very adequate. I enjoyed my foie gras and main dish. Service is very nice also. I do recommend for a long lazy lunch or a romantic date.

Lao Kitchen, located in Vientiane, offers a delightful experience of traditional Laotian cuisine. Situated near the waterfront, the restaurant provides a pleasant ambiance for diners to enjoy authentic dishes such as grilled Mekong fish, Pakse-style pork sausage, and bamboo shoot stew. Additionally, they serve delectable desserts like sticky rice with mango or banana and coconut milk. The menu also includes vegetarian options to cater to various preferences.
Big fan of the food here, specially the southern stew! We went for a cooking class on the day before and we were told that the food at lao kitchen was not as good as in our class. Definitely a bit different but still delicious.

Place is clean and service was fantastic. Set up cutlery and served water. As for taste wise, it was not fantastic but decent taste. Tourist spicy level, which is zero to low, may be requested in this restaurant.

Great options for Laotian food! It is a really fancy restaurant. Keep this in mind! Food definitely costs more than other places around but I loved it and thought it was worth every penny. Staff were super sweet
Hannah R — Google review
Good place to sample local food. All dishes we had were full of flavors and in great portions. We ate the Pork spring roll, the Red curry steamed rice and the Khong soup (a vegetable soup). I do recommend all the dishes we had. The prices were were good too.
Patricia S — Google review
Nice explanation about Lao Food on the menu. The price is a bit high for what you get, the "small" fried rice with chicken is 25.000 Kip, for that I get a pretty big plate somewhere else. I missed any kind of spice in my rice and didn't get any chili soy sauce like you usually do when ordering this dish. There were no sauce or spices on the table to add to my taste neither. The mango sticky rice was so-so, I wouldn't recommend it since the mango itself wasn't ripe and sour instead sweet. Staff was nice and fast. Place was clean and calm.
Kai A — Google review
So many vegan options there! They serve brown rice, tofu and lots of veggies. Their dishes are usually made out of oyster sauce. I just asked them to use soy sauce instead and they were happy to do so. The prices are really cheap and you‘ll get a great meal for that. I‘ve already been there several times!
EARTHLING — Google review
I ordered the fish cakes to start and the red curry for mains, both were good but just good. Maybe it was just my choices that didnt give the chef a chance to shine but what I ate was fairly average. Staff and setting were lovely.

Makphet is not just a restaurant serving modern Laos cuisine, it's also a vocational training restaurant run by Friends-International, an NGO supporting disadvantaged youth. The cheerful space adorned with student paintings offers dishes like Ancient Fish and banana flower salad. The establishment stands out for its social mission of training and empowering marginalized youth in culinary skills. It's also known for its innovative approach to local ingredients, blending contemporary and traditional Lao culinary styles.
the student training aspect is nice but the food is outstanding regardless. the fish with coconut and lime Sauce was one of the best meals I had in 10 days traveling Laos and Vietnam. it was like a savory warm ice cream; hard to describe but it was basically perfect. some teenager here is the best cook in SE Asia.
NoahJon M — Google review
A decent place to try homemade Lao cuisine. I tried the daily buffet options - the manager told me they're for locals. I imagine it's typical to get a plate of rice and pick 2-3 dishes out of the 7-8 available selections, but since I'm a tourist he offered me a larger portion served on a plate per dish. Which was not a bad thing because I really enjoyed the fish larb! 😋 The sausage wasn't as spicy or herb-y as I'd expected it to be. Overall I wouldn't mind coming back to try out other dishes.

Good crisp fish with basil and chilly sauce. Other food was also good. I liked papaya salad and the beverage here. The student staff is very good service, kind and made me satisfied. I recommend you to visit here if you want to try Lao food in Vientiane. The price is also affordable, coming from 10:00AM to 1:30PM to get discount for some of meals.

We stopped here for lunch on our first day in Vientiane to try some Local Lao food. Whilst it was not my favourite the food was all cooked fresh and was a high quality. The staff are super attentive and helpful. If you’re looking to try Lao food this place seems like a hit with the locals too

Makphet Restaurant — meaningful dining with a cause. This restaurant is more than just a place to eat; it’s a social enterprise that trains young Laotians with valuable hospitality skills. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with friendly staff who are clearly putting in their best effort. The menu is limited but carefully selected — every dish I tried was tasty, well-prepared, and clean. Service can be on the slower side, but it’s understandable and worth the wait given the mission behind the restaurant. Dining here feels good not only for the food but also for supporting a great cause in Vientiane.
Kitsada S — Google review
I think this is the place we had best food in Laos. My fried fish with sour cream sauce is amazing. Fish smelled so good, and the texture is tender. They cooked with some kind of vegetable that I don't know but it was a perfect match. The sauce is really something. Ask for a drink in a glass if you're drinking there to avoid plastic!
Thien D — Google review
I ordered a red curry with chicken and 20 minutes later got a yellow curry with very low flavor and a tiny portion for 60,000kip. Dissapointing just like most places in this area. The customers of this place seem like local and Chinese businessmen that probably enjoy this kind of lame food.

Steak house
Tapas restaurant
Pimenton Restaurant in Vientiane is a popular spot for Mediterranean cuisine with a touch of Hispanic flair. The restaurant offers a wide range of delicious dishes, including marinated grilled steaks, tapas, and fish-based specialties. Despite being on the pricier side, Pimenton is well-loved by both locals and tourists for its high-quality food. With an emphasis on local and organic sourcing, this stylish Spanish restaurant redefines the modern steakhouse experience in Laos.
Pimenton is my go-to spot for Mediterranean cuisine! The meats are perfectly cooked—not overdone—and the roasted veggies are bursting with flavor. If red meat isn’t your thing, their grilled chicken is incredibly juicy. The pasta is delightful, but the real standout is the corn soup—a must-try! Don’t miss the ciabatta with garlic sauce; it’s pure heaven. The staff are exceptionally friendly, making the dining experience even better. While it’s on the pricier side, every bite is absolutely worth it!
Kitsada S — Google review
The picanha from here was highly recommended by a friend. Unfortunately, the steak was a major disappointment While the steak was grilled properly - nice and juicy with a smoked fat cap - the poor quality beef was so chewy that I could barely make it through. It took me an hour to fight through this steak and finish it. Only because I felt bad for spending that much money on it. On the plus side, the caesar salad was good, and well priced compared to the quality and amount that you would get in other places, such as Bangkok.
Toan D — Google review
Highly recommend this restaurant located in central Vientiane. Menu boasts a Western- Spanish cuisine with tapas, paella, steaks and classic bar food. Excellent set lunch menu which is a must try. The set lunch menu has a refreshing garden salad followed by a mains then dessert. We tried the seafood paella which came out surprisingly quickly but was very tasty and satisfying. Highly recommend the grilled chicken, the chicken was so succulent and juicy packed with amazing flavours. The prawn fettuccine was also creamy and fulfilling. Portions were large and satisfied hungry appetites. I came back on a Sunday to try their a la carte menu but unfortunately they were closed on Sunday. Great bar area and inviting ambience. Staff were friendly but spoke limited English. Service lost a star because staff were elusive and purposely avoiding us due to language barrier when we requested assistance.

Great food! Meat not overdone, roasted veggies nice and flavourful. We also LOVED chiabatta with the garlic sauce. Only one thing to ask, spaghetti should be a little firmer.

We had a very nice dinner at Pimenton restaurant. I ordered the Argentina Grilled meats which was huge and included beef, pork chop, chicken, two different sausages, grilled asparagus and mushrooms. I didn’t think the sausages had much flavor but enjoyed everything else. We also had baked mussels, puree potatoes and tomatoe-garlic toast that where good. Thank you to all the staff and the owner for a pleasurable dining experience.

If your trip to Vientiane leads you to Pimentón, don’t skip the Tomahawk steak and its decadent truffle offerings — they’re showstoppers in their own right. Tomahawk Steak at Pimentón From the moment it’s presented, the Tomahawk commands attention — long bone, generous marbling, and that sizzling aura as it arrives. The open-grill set-up lets you watch the finishing touches: the char, the smoke kiss, the juices pooling just so. When done right, it delivers: a deeply beefy flavor, rich fat that melts into the lean, and a satisfying crust that gives way to tender, juicy slices. Pair that with a crisp side and you’ve got a steak experience that lives up to the hype. That said, some diners have flagged inconsistency — even when grilling technique seems sound, the cut’s chew has disappointed a few. So, ask for your doneness and inspect the first slice. Truffle Dishes & Truffle Accents Pimentón’s truffle touches (in sauces, pastas, maybe even finishing oils) lean into luxury without overdoing it. These dishes elevate the experience: earthy aroma, silky mouthfeel, pairing smartly with the beef. While there’s less voluminous comment about the truffle offerings specifically, the general consensus is that their emphasis on “organic sourcing, simple presentation, open fire technique” fits well with the restrained use of premium ingredients like truffle. When the truffle is used — whether in a sauce, a risotto, or shaved over a dish — it feels intentional, not showy. Final Take Pimentón delivers on the theater and the flavors when it comes to the Tomahawk — it’s a destination dish. If you go, be bold: ask for the best slice, check how it’s done, and let the staff guide you. The truffle side notes are the perfect companion — subtle, well judged, and classy. A truly memorable dinner for those who appreciate meat and nuance.

Nice modern industrial chic decor. Food and service excellent (we had a selection of tapas). Steaks looked delicious and that's what we will return for next time. Highly recommended. The restaurant doesn't look particularly inviting from the street and you wouldn't know of the lovely modern interior. Would be better if they opened up the area in front for a couple of tables for dining outdoors.

Villa Opera, previously known as L'Opera, is a charming high-end Italian restaurant located in Vientiane. Situated just behind The Spirit House and one block back from the Mekong River on Rue Panya Sri, this restaurant is housed in a beautifully refurbished old French Colonial Villa. It boasts a traditional exterior and a modern interior. Despite being slightly off the main tourist center, it remains one of Vientiane's esteemed dining establishments.
Superb elegant restaurant located in an old french colonial house totally refurbished without altering the original status. Nice decor, friendly english speaking staff. Large menu with traditonal italian food. Pizza comes from real traditional napoletean owen by wood. Managed by a roman italian settled in lao since over 25 years.

I really like the meat steak because it’s very soft and delicious. Then, the atmosphere is fantastic which is suitable for a dinner! Service is excellent but, only thing that why I give 4 stars due to the price is quite high. I think I will come here again in future.

The quality/flavor is great but the presentation and portion sizes are extremely disappointing. I feel a little uncomfortable paying 600k for 2 ordinary non alcoholic drinks (tea and coffee) and two TINY desserts that aren't even garnished. Staff was very kind and I appreciate that.

The environment and seatings are great, luxury is the best word to describe it. There is 0 worries about the food quality, all foods are clean and authentic. Some menus feels like overpriced, especially desserts. (Doesn't mean they're bad) [Photos below: Crème brûlée, Panna cotta, Spaghetti Ragoût]

Xang Khoo is a delightful Lao eatery in Vientiane, Laos that combines traditional flavors with a touch of French influence. Their duck-based dishes are highly recommended, and they also offer delicious crepes and pizza. The restaurant boasts an impressive selection of French wines and cheeses. Located near the north end of the Namphu Fountain, Xang Khoo is a multicuisine restaurant that provides a pleasant dining experience with its charming ambiance.
A very nice French restaurant, good ambiance and good food. For 55 000kip you can have the meal of the day, it's a small salad and main with a dessert. The red wine is good too but a bit expensive, 30 000kip the glass. There is a second floor with a small balcony. Nice ambiance with a little bit of music in the back. The owner is very friendly and the service is fine. A very good place to try during your stay in Vientiane

The cheese in the onion soup was a blast! The soup is too salty for me. The crepes were ok.... they gave me a generous amount of salad underneath the crepes, which was a plus.

Food was good although cutlery and plates all had a white dust on them. Maybe it was just floor. I enjoyed my crepe and dessert. But be careful paying with Thai baht as the exchange rate given by the restaurant had a fee of about 10%. Probably the most expensive I have paid ever anywhere in the world. There is a money exchange shop really close to the restaurant where the fee is less than 1%. Go there to change your money beforehand.

Jessica H — Google review
I recently had the opportunity to visit this place, and overall, it was a pleasant experience. The restaurant offers a wide variety of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, making it a suitable option for groups with different food preferences. To start, I ordered the Veg Pakora, and I must say, it was a delightful appetizer. The pakoras were hot, crispy, and full of flavor — a perfect start to the meal. The chutney served alongside complemented them very well. For the main course, I went with the Paneer Tikka Masala, which, unfortunately, was disappointing. The gravy lacked the richness and depth typically expected from this dish, and the paneer pieces were not fresh — they were chewy and didn’t have that soft texture paneer lovers look for. This particular dish brought down the overall experience for me, which is why I’m giving a 3-star rating. That said, the ambience of the place is definitely a highlight. It has a cozy and relaxed vibe, with comfortable seating both indoors and outdoors. The outdoor area is especially nice during the evening, and the restaurant’s location — just a short walk from the riverside — adds to its charm. It’s a good place to sit back, relax, and enjoy some time with friends or family. I would consider visiting again, but next time, I’ll likely try a different main course.
Chirag C — Google review
Buddy let me tell you.. if you are in Vientiane, go to this place for dinner. The food is great, the service is prompt, and the price is very affordable. They brought my food very quickly as well, surprisingly fast. The outside seating atmosphere is a little lackluster- plain tables on a somewhat boring stretch of street but besides that minor issue everything was fantastic. Indoors looks fine.

Nazim is a fantastic spot for a satisfying meal. The food is fresh, flavourful, and beautifully presented, with generous portions that feel thoughtfully prepared. The service is warm and attentive, with staff who are quick to assist without being intrusive, making the dining experience comfortable and smooth. In terms of value, the prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion size, leaving you feeling you’ve received excellent worth for your money. Overall, Nazim delivers a well-rounded experience that makes it easy to recommend.

We’re vegans, and when we arrived at this restaurant, we had a hard time explaining that we needed completely plant-based meals. Thankfully, the kind owner stepped in, spoke with the kitchen, and made sure they understood exactly what we were looking for. What we received were the most delicious vegan dishes we've had during our entire stay in Laos — everything was 100% plant-based and absolutely bursting with flavor. We wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone looking for amazing vegan food.

Finally, a break from rice mountains and noodle jungles. Sticky Finger goes for European pub vibes, complete with Western music that feels like oxygen after weeks of Asian plinking soundtracks. Fish and chips—but with wedges. And honestly? Good call. Crispy outside, fluffy inside, way more bite than sad skinny fries. Fish is fried to golden armor and comes alive once you dunk it in tartar sauce. Chicken Kiev—the deep-fried butter cannon. Crunchy shell, juicy chicken, mayo riding shotgun because apparently one sauce is never enough. Wonton soup—Asia peeking through the curtain, offering a light broth with dumplings, chili, and lime to keep things interesting. All paired with an ice-cold Beerlao, which basically glues this whole cultural mashup together. Verdict: wedges win, music soothes, beer delivers, food comforts. This is Europe hiding in Asia, and it’s worth it. 4/5.

Sticky Fingers — love being back at this place! I had a fun gathering with friends, bringing back lots of old memories. We ordered a ton of food, but the highlight was definitely the BBQ pork ribs — juicy, tender, and full of smoky-sweet flavor that’s hard to resist. To finish off, the passion fruit ice cream was the perfect refreshing dessert to wrap up the night. Great vibe, good service, and still one of my favorite spots for comfort food in Vientiane.

Food was average, massive portions but under seasoned makes you bit disappointed. BEWARE ⬇️ We ordered food that was supposed to come to 335.000 and when received a receipt total was 470.000 they upcharged the fried egg for 15.000 to 150.000 (it was more expensive than the food we ordered itself) after recounting everything and given them the right amount they started to argue when they didn’t see what they did wrong and still tried to charge us 470.000 - disappointed with the whole situation and staffs unprofessional behaviour it was thankfully resolved few minutes later - double check your receipt

True French bistro cuisine cooked by a chef that has a passion for cooking. This shows by the food served and the chef himself checking that everything is ok with the food. We left very happy and the price is very fair. The pumpkin soup with blue cheese was delicious. Pate en croute was fantastic and to finish off the duck was cooked to perfection (medium rare for me and medium for my partner) with a delicious green peppercorn sauce and an amazing potato waffle with onion and bacon bits which was a first for me, but works so well! Not to mention the bread and butter to start was very fresh and the red wine for the meal was also really, really nice. Next time we will be back :)

We went here for lunch but unfortunately we didn’t have a great experience. We ordered a duck laab which was ok and a burger which was average. What really let it down was the wine, we ordered a carafe of red which was so bad we couldn’t drink it. It tasted like a bottle that had been opened for months and left to go off. The waitresses never checked back nor asked why the carafe had been hardly touched. The service was a real disappointment; we had to ask to be seated after waiting for a while at the entrance (this was at nearly 3pm and there were hardly any tables eating). We were waiting a while for them to take our order and we also had to go up to ask for the bill and for our change. Whilst there were still a number of staff working, they ignored us until we went up to ask for something. Overall for what we paid and that this is a wine bar, we were very disappointed and would not recommend.

I recently dined at That Dam Wine House and opted for the local beef dish, and I must say, it was absolutely amazing. The flavour and tenderness of the local beef exceeded my expectations. However, I did find the portion of sides to be a bit on the smaller side, while the price being more on the higher side. Despite this, the overall experience was really good, and I would definitely recommend That Dam Wine House to fellow meat enthusiasts looking for a taste of the West in Asia.

The menu is a delightful journey through authentic Laotian flavors, featuring favorites like papaya salad, grilled fish, and sticky rice.
During my photo tour in Laos last November, I had the pleasure of dining at Tamnak Lao Restaurant in Vientiane. Nestled in a beautifully restored colonial house and garden, this local favorite offers an authentic taste of Lao cuisine. The setting is charming, with lush greenery providing a serene backdrop. On the day my friends and I visited, the temperature soared to 91 degrees, making the restaurant's refreshing fruit drinks a much-needed respite. The staff not only display a positive and friendly attitude, but they’re also incredibly attentive. They promptly refill my glass when the water level drops, and even subtly place a box of tissues on my table the second after I sneeze. Plus, communicating in English here is no issue at all. It’s also conveniently located near the Gate. You can take pictures at sunset, come here to take a rest, then return after dark for a different view.

Great food in an absolutely nice setting. I went against the recommendation and ordered Fish casserole instead of Or Lam, and it was very good. My suggestion is to train their nice stuffs the sequence of services.

Night market
Ban Anou Night Market is a must-visit spot in Vientiane, offering an array of street food and traditional local delicacies. The market opens every evening around 6 pm, featuring a variety of street snacks such as pho with hand-pulled noodles, grilled skewered meats, rice pancakes, and local beverages like coconut drinks and chai tea. In addition to the culinary delights, visitors can explore stalls selling clothing, accessories, and souvenirs.
This is a small street night market… caters for locals to have takeaway food….. very little seating area… it’s doesn’t cater for tourist market…. But saying that it’s well worth the effort to visit… very authentic street food…. You can always get some food and take and eat at the big night market down the street and have with a beer!
Elwyn F — Google review
Anou Night Market is a great spot for street food lovers, offering a wide variety of Lao dishes, with grilled meats and papaya salad being the standout choices. The prices are very reasonable, making it an excellent option for a casual meal. This slightly hidden gem is highly recommended for anyone looking to experience authentic Lao street food in a vibrant atmosphere.

Really small night market. Some food option, but not that many. We tried delicious sausage here though! Worth visiting if you have extra time.
Matheus B — Google review
Went there on a Friday night, not much to eat, mostly bbq skewers. A lot of smoke, full of locals some by foot some stopping by bike. If that’s the kind of food you like then go for it, it looks better than the other markets in town, but no prices are showed so you might get the tourist price …
Clémence A — Google review
Night market with plethora of options from basic noodles to seefood and insects to try. Highly recommend the backdoor atmosphere of this a little hidden market.
Janko K — Google review
Just a small collection of stalls that sell generally the same local food. You are better off going to Vientiane night market (the food one) nearby.
Janus K — Google review
Great price for clothes and other stuff. The best thing about this market is - you don't need to waste your time and efforts on bargaining. The prices are mostly fixed and are cheap. Made in China but are good. If you are a shopping girl you would love it.

This place is amazing! Here I ate best duck ever and I have been in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and now Laos. This duck was only 20.000kip (2.34$) and you get half of juicy, delicious, fingerlicious meat with crisp crunchy skin of duck. Skewers for 5.000kip (0.58$), sticky rice, sausages...they have everything. Lical food for čocal people. For me way better then Night Market next to Mekong river where typical tourists go. Btw. Ve sur to take some mosquito repelent, this is also their feeding area. If I could rate with 10, I would give 10!😍😋🇱🇦

Fujiwara Restaurant in Vientiane is renowned for its exquisite Japanese cuisine, particularly sushi. While it's considered one of the pricier dining establishments in Laos, the quality of the food justifies the cost. The interior boasts a beautiful decor and features an indoor koi pool that enhances the overall ambiance. With over two decades of operation, this luxurious Japanese restaurant near Sihom area offers a great selection of sushi combinations and is known for its fresh salmon dishes.
I loved this restaurant. The food was delicious and it was an incredible experience.

The food was very average for the price. Also, they brought my friend's main course before one of the appetizers ... and didn't think it was an issue until I respectfully pointed it out. Not much atmosphere either. Overall, we were disappointed and will not go back.

The food took so long I had to do take out after waiting an hour for an over priced meal. Music was awful and quality of food does not match price. Way too expensive for average food. Will not return or recommend

Older restaurant that has outlived its charm. Nothing special and pricey, but the food is passable. The customer service leaves much to be desired; perhaps the most rude in Laos. So many better places in town it is amazing this restaurant is still open.

The price of the menu is too expensive, the food is average, the serving speed of udon is extremely slow, it takes half an hour, the environment is beautiful, but I don't understand why the experience can't keep up.

If you're on the hunt for an authentic taste of Laos, look no further than Pa Kham Tanh Laap Restaurant. Renowned for its exceptional larb—a beloved minced meat salad that embodies the essence of Lao cuisine—this local gem is a must-visit in Vientiane. Diners rave about the vibrant flavors and expertly seasoned dishes, making it a favorite among both locals and visitors alike. The atmosphere is welcoming, with attentive service that enhances your dining experience.
We asked our guide to take us to a local restaurant. We are so glad he picked this place! The food was amazing. We ordered several different dishes for our group of 5. Some were spicy - all were tasty. We only saw locals but was a great place for our group from Texas/US. We were stuffed at the end and very pleased that the total bill for the 5 of us was ~$20 USD including gratuity (see picture of our order / receipt). This is the place to stop if you are looking for a real Lao meal!

Food is good because too much MSG. They should repair their shop where guests are sitting. It is too old and can collapse anytime. Too risky to eat there, I recommend you look for other safe resto.

Even though this restaurant is a short ride from the centre of town, 60000K on Loco, it is well worth it. The restaurant is SUPER CLEAN, I am sure that you can eat off the floor. The restaurant is bright and spacious, and the owner speaks English. The menu is also in English and the food is really really good. Had beef curry, deep fried mushrooms, pork sausage and spring rolls. These were all really good and was chased with desert. Mango and sticky rice remains our favourite.

I had the most amazing meal here this evening. The owner of the restaurant is one of the kindest people I have met and her cooking is just as great. She was very accommodating of the fact I do not eat meat and cooked a brilliant meal for us. The mango sticky rice is a must if you come here - the best we’ve had on our travels (and we’ve tried a lot). She made sure we got to our taxi safely and we are so thankful for her amazing hospitality. Please visit if you’re nearby.

I would definitely return and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Vientiane.

Best food we have eaten in Laos, we asked for their recommendations and everything was delicious. Restaurant was pristine, and kitchen staff wore hairnets, you can see the pride in good hygiene. Noodle shop
When exploring the culinary delights of Laos, one cannot miss the exquisite Khao Piak That Dam. This comforting noodle soup features chewy rice noodles that resemble Udon but are made from a delightful blend of rice and tapioca. The dish is typically prepared with tender pork or chicken, infused with aromatic herbs like lemongrass and galangal, along with shallots and garlic for depth of flavor.
If you love to eat like a local, this very popular noodle shop should be on your list. A Lao friend brought me here for lunch -- it was crowded, but the owners and customers made space for us at a shared table. The restaurant serves Khao Piak -- a thick, chewy rice noodle soup -- with pork or chicken. The menu lists three bowl sizes (35-45k kip) along with freshly squeezed orange juice, passion fruit juice, pepsi, and water. There's a nice chili paste available if you want to make your soup spicy. It's nice, simple, but flavorful food. I had the Khao Piak with chicken and an orange juice -- the juice was great burst of flavor (much better than what you're getting at a store) and the soup was really filling. Just overall happy with the meal and experience. I'd definitely go back and also bring foodies along.

Tyson Kitchen is a popular restaurant in Vientiane known for its delicious wood-fired pizzas. The menu offers classic options like margherita and four cheese, as well as unique creations such as roasted chicken with pesto. Customers can even customize their own pizzas with their preferred toppings or add extras to the existing menu offerings. The friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere reflect the owner's hospitality, making it a great spot for American and Canadian cuisine enthusiasts.
This is a centrally located restaurant that specializes in wood oven pizzas, pastas, salads and fruit shakes. I had an avocado shake and large pizza with vegetarian toppings and mozzarella cheese. Both items were delicious. The pizza had a copious amount of all the toppings including the mozzarella. The service staff was friendly and efficient. There is both indoor and outdoor seating available. The restroom was well maintained and clean. The restaurant provides a nice selection of condiments that one may apply to their pizza such as hot sauce, oregano and olive oil. The ambiance here was casual and comfortable. I highly recommend this place to those that enjoy high quality wood oven fired pizza along with other Italian inspired dishes served efficiently in a pleasant environment.

Good clean food. Very filling and reasonably priced as well. Friendly staff. Clean bathroom. I’ve had the crispy chicken blue cheese sandwich which was awesome. The maple whiskey bacon burger which was also great and a couple of their legit wood oven pizzas. This place is a hidden gem 💎

The bacon cheeseburger was smashing... Update: I've been back a few times and let me tell you the chicken sandwich, BLT w/cheese, and the macaroni an cheese are a must try! I almost forgot the French toast, scrambled eggs and Bacon. I love Tysons. I'm a regular now!

Bit of a mixed review on this one. Kids loved it but mama, not so much. The pizza we ordered was undercooked which meant it was a little soggy. Mama don’t like no soggy pizza! 🤣 luckily she was pleased with her passion fruit shake! The waiter remembered our order without writing anything down. Always adds a little touch of class. I would definitely give them another go and wouldn’t let a slightly undercooked pizza ruin the experience.

Damn! One of the best pizzas I've had anywhere. And I owned a pizza shop in Phuket, Thailand! The pulled pork pizza baked in a proper wood fired oven was spectacular. Perfect crispy crust, plenty of toppings and cheese, good portion for 2-3 people. Outstanding. Service was good as they were a bit busy at lunch. Wish I had taken some photos. Nice cozy location near the riverside, but tucked away enough to avoid the hassle and traffic. Definitely recommend it if you're in the area. Cheers to all for a great experience. Keep up the great work!

Cute little restaurant with a cute terrace for outdoor seating. There’s a giant wood fire oven that warms the entire place up and just invites you in. We got a pizza and burger to share between the two of us and were blown away by how good they were. We also ordered fruit shakes for a little more than $1 each. Highly recommend. I’ll be returning for dinner tomorrow.

A man, presumably the owner, was personally overseeing the pizza making and observing customer needs. The ladies serving were also quite nice. The pizzas were inexpensive and delicious, with flavorful chili and garlic oil. The place was small but had a great atmosphere, and it was interesting to see the busy kitchen. However, when it came time to pay, we instinctively assumed the payment would be at the entrance, but it turned out to be in the stairwell.

PDR Pizza is a fantastic spot for Italian food lovers in Vientiane and comes highly recommended. The pizzas here are amazing, with delicious flavors and a perfectly crispy crust. I tried the spicy salami pizza, which was excellent—full of flavor and just the right kick. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, making it a great place to dine. I also ordered the seafood salad for the first time, and it was just okay—nothing too special but a decent option if you're looking for something light. As for the gnocchi, it wasn't quite to my taste; it was a bit mushy, likely from too much potato, as I prefer a bouncier texture. The chef, an Italian who has lived in Laos for 12 years, is very friendly and adds a warm, personal touch to the experience. Overall, PDR Pizza is a great choice for delicious pizza and a pleasant atmosphere!

While some may argue that their burgers are not as good as others in town, they still offer a variety of quality beef and chicken burgers with unique toppings like Swiss cheese, bacon, and eggplant. The menu also includes hot dogs, salads, and milkshakes.
Delicious burgers! I had the mini classic burger—just the right size—and my husband went for the chicken burger. Both were packed with flavor and came with a side of chips. The burger was good and well-cooked (if I’m not mistaken the one that I’ve had is called Cluck Norris, with chicken and avocado). Service is ok, but beware that you can’t pay here by card and better exchange currency to local. I’ve paid in Thai baht which are acceptable, but not sure if it was a mistake of a worker or on purpose, but I had to pay more than it costed (105 000 lak, which would we around 162 baht, but he charged me 190).

You can get a burger/sandwich alone or with the set. It's not the cheapest burger. But I bet it's better than anywhere else in the city. If your craving a delicious burger. Don't miss this spot.
CtheD S — Google review
I had their Wild Wagyu burger. The beef itself was good, fries were good. But the bun seemed to be of very poor quality and kind of ruined the whole burger. Pretty underwhelming.
Amlan N — Google review
Chicken burger was just ok. Chicken was very tough, like it had been grilled from frozen. Chips were also frozen to point of having freezer burn. 75,000kip for burger and small portion of fries. I was the only customer at 1pm on a Friday. I feel for places like this. If they had more customers, maybe the food would be fresher. But maybe if the food was fresher, they would have more customers.... I wouldn't go back.

Laotian restaurant
Located in the heart of Vientiane, Kung's Cafe Lao is a charming gem popular among locals and travelers alike. It offers a dynamic atmosphere and delightful Laotian cuisine presented in a modern style. The restaurant is renowned for its breakfast, brunch, and lunch options, including noodle soups, tasty stir-fries, crepes, and freshly baked pastries.
Hidden deep inside an alleyway, a small restaurant with a relaxing ambient. The food here was incredible. The chicken soup with the baguette was extraordinary. The fruit salad with yogurt was extremely delicious. The sticky rice pancake was everything you’d wish for. Went during busy hours so had to wait 40min for the food, so I’d recommend visiting during early or late hours.
Kotaro N — Google review
A tucked away cafe recommended to us and we really enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. It is an open type of cafe so no air conditioning is available. They have several tables available for dining in. Ordered the Sticky Rice Pancake with Mango & Avocado Smoothie. Both were delicious. Enjoyed our meal here.
Aibi Y — Google review
A bit of a ‘hole in the wall’ but it comes highly recommended. Down a long alley, it’s a favourite among locals so that’s a good sign. Ordering / interpretation can be a little tricky if the older gentleman is taking your order but all is well. The Yellow Chicken Noodle Soup was good, as was the omelette and coffee with coconut (cold) and the Lao coffee with milk (hot).
Geoff L — Google review
Simple food that is extremely delicious. Had the beef curry and ginger pork as the main and both were very yummy! I literally drank up all the curry because it was very good. The mango rice pancake’s crust is delicious and the mango smoothie is so good that I ordered 2 cups!

Hidden gem in Vientiane best food I had while I was here! The service is warm and welcoming, and the food is absolutely top-notch. The pho and chicken noodle dishes are spectacular full of flavor and perfectly cooked. Mango pancakes are terrific as well! It’s tucked away down a small alley, but trust me, the food is more than worth the walk. Food was so good we kept coming back. Highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting the city!

Laotian restaurant
Ban Vilaylac is a Lao restaurant that offers delicious home-cooked food at an affordable price. The menu features many stir-frys, coconut curries, tasty soups, and laap dishes, but the restaurant's best dish is their Lao sausage.
Only one lady is cooking and serving. A lot of several dishes on the menu and she seems very good to all the dishes. We ordered what she recommended. All the dishes are very delicious. This place is special because we can speak the one who is really cooking for us, which is very home alike feeling. But you have to wait if there are other customers because she is cooking and serving first in first out.
Min T — Google review
Owned by one lady who works as a one man band - serves, cooks and cleans so be prepared to wait while she does table by table. She's lovely and speaks good English. Large options on menu, including lots of vegan/veggie options. Food which tastes very good. Bare in mind due to cost inflation, the prices are probably around 10,000 KIP more than displayed, but this is explained clearly by the lady. But still very cheap - my tofu red curry & rice came to 60,000 KIP. Would recommend to others.
Olivia A — Google review
As noted; everything here is done by a lady serving as a "one man band." It was late in the evening and a few things were not available, but it was my good fortune as the Northern Thai/Lao sausage was outstanding!

Had the fish amok (steamed fish ) and sticky rice !! Honestly could cry at how good the fish was!! Been wanting to try it all over lots but never could trust street vendor quality . I can assure you the owner here used all fresh ingredients and she speaks full english and is soo lovely !! Definitely coming back here

Very nice local food restaurant, everything was delicious. It may take some time for your food to be prepared, if there are a lot of people there.

Wow! Such amazing fresh home cooked food.. And at such a good price! Everything tasted authentic and was the best food we had in Vientiane. 100% Worth a visit.
Amber ( — Google review
A menu with hundreds of choices not for the indecisive. The fish hor mok and Lao sour soup were different than Thai style and very good.
Howard T — Google review
Place looks messy, therefore not very welcoming. The owner wasn't smiling at all. Food was average and expensive for local standard. Meals cost between 35.000 and 50.000 kip. A good thing is that you can choose your portion size and that they offer a huge menu. So in conclusion it's alright, but no place I would go back to.

Le Trio Coffee is a boutique roaster in Vientiane that takes pride in sourcing ethical beans from local Lao producers. They exclusively use Robusta and Arabica beans, and their magnificent German roasting machine ensures top-quality coffee. The owners, Phonesavahn Vilivong and Micka Perier, are passionate about their craft and work hard to deliver the best coffee experience.
For what it’s worth- as a fellow coffee professional - I pick this cafe as the top and actually only choice for flat whites in Vientiane. Coffee is local, use fresh milk (Japanese brand Meiji from Thailand) - steaming and pulling shots on an Elektra lever 2 group. Place is small but has nice outdoor seating
Alun E — Google review
We came Le Trio Coffee this morning after a recommendation from a fellow traveller I met in Vang Vieng. I must say that his recommendation was correct and the coffee is superb (thanks Gert!). I had a cold latte (not my usual go to but it is a hot day) and the love of my life had a cold cappuccino. Both coffees were excellent. The coffee shop has footpath seating and tables with fans as well as inside seating. Very cool inside in both temperature and ambience! A big shout out to Jules who provided fantastic service. He was attentive, polite and very helpful. Le Trio serves cake sans pastries but we were after some other breakfast options and Jules provided the menu for Coco & Co, which is the vegan cafe next door. The food was very good. See my separate food review for Coco & Co.

Lao- French coffee. Still best coffee in Vientiane so far. Have not been here since September 2019 but the place has not change at all. Good vibes in the morning. Good coffee with lots of styles for selection. You can smell the coffee in 20m radius from the shop when they have a new roasted coffee beans

Excellent coffee. I had vegan cappuccino and vegan flat white. Oat milk option is available . Highly recommend this coffee shop.

The flavor and taste of an iced americano were just correct. As for iced latte, it would've been better to have it without ice. Many small ice cubes liquefied the milk.

Awesome little coffee shop. The flat white was clearly made with love of coffee 🤎🤎🙏🏻. If you seek good coffee, this is a must visit.

Really is a great cup of pure coffee. You can tell this is a passion and not just a business. I think this really may be the best coffee in Vientiane. (And I have family who own another shop in town)

Good coffee shop with a nice ambient. I had a good conversation about philosophy with the young French-Laotian man who is the nephew of the owner. He took good care of every guest. Unfortunately as soon as he left around lunch time the service got worst. The employees cared less, they are on their smartphones the whole time and you feel like you disturb them if you ask something. This is a pity.

Senglao Café is a popular spot in Vientiane, known for its excellent coffee made with locally grown beans and delicious sandwiches. The café offers a pleasant ambiance with both indoor and outdoor seating, complete with free WiFi and air conditioning. Its cinematic theme adds to the unique dining experience, where guests can enjoy popcorn and bread as appetizers. The extensive menu features fusion dishes, including healthy options and a children's menu. Senglao Café is also famous for its variety of delicious cakes.
Great place for Western food in Laos. Pizza was tasty and the ice tea was one of the best I've ever had.
Ashley . — Google review
Senglao Cafe appears to be a welcoming spot in Vientiane, offering a mix of familiar and local-inspired dishes. My recent visit involved trying their Cacao Shake and Carbonara, and here are my thoughts: The Cacao Shake was a refreshing treat, likely a welcome respite from the Vientiane heat. It probably offered a rich, chocolatey flavor, perfect for a sweet indulgence. Moving on to the Carbonara, this is where Senglao Cafe put a local twist on a classic. While traditionally made with eggs, it seems their version leaned more heavily on the egg itself, which isn't the standard creamy sauce many are accustomed to. However, despite this deviation, it's interesting to note that you found it good. This suggests that Senglao Cafe's interpretation, while different, was still flavorful and enjoyable. Perhaps it offered a richer, more custard-like texture.

This place is a hidden gem in Vientiane. It has tons of character. The American interior style and decoration style from the 80ties and 90ties is just amazing, together with the music it just pulls you into the complex atmosphere. The old theater seats in the exterior garden area are a nice touch! Coffe is great, selection of pastries good too. I'd definitely recommend this one!
Tomáš G — Google review
Really snazzy place with good fusion food. 🍱 it has space for parking. I loved the yum salmon :)
Missy L — Google review
My family enjoys coming to Senglao -- it's a popular restaurant with locals. The food is good -- my children like the fish and chips and I like the pesto pasta. Lots of variety on the menu, but it seems a little pricey compared to comparable restaurants (to be fair inflation is high right now). They have a great location with some patio dining -- sitting outside is great, it's a good place for a relaxing meal. Good bakery items, ice cream, and coffee available. Senglao shows its colors a few times a year when they host events -- handicraft markets, etc. Worth checking out and we'll happily eat here again.

This cafe is being introduced by my local Laos friend. Love the concept of the cafe where it is a mixture of the 80’s and 90’s time. Heard that during lunch time and dinner time, it will be very crowded. Was there with my friends at around 2pm. Very nice and peaceful environment. Joma Bakery Cafe That Luang is a popular spot in Vientiane, drawing both locals and tourists with its delightful mix of French-inspired pastries and traditional Laotian dishes. Whether you're in the mood for flaky croissants and rich coffee in the morning, hearty burgers and fresh salads for lunch, or indulgent cakes and fair-trade lattes for an afternoon treat, Joma's diverse menu and inviting ambiance have got you covered.
Very good coffee and pies. Nice salads for lunch. I love the fact that they have a social mission in the communities and employ hearing disabled people in their shop as waiters and they have such an incredibly positive mindset. Only for this I would come back already.

A great place for a good sandwich and smoothie. I ask for avocado and banana, and foccacia with chicken. The staff was amazing, the place could be better, a bit outdated. But good for a stop and food that is real.

Joma Café is one of the original cafés in Laos, and while I usually opt for takeout or delivery, I enjoy dining in when I have time. The mango salad is my favorite, though the coffee is just average for me. It’s not a fancy place, but what sets Joma apart is its consistent quality over the years—everything always tastes exactly as I expect.
Kitsada S — Google review
Joma Bakery Cafe in Vientiane has established itself as a consistently popular spot, and for good reason. During my time here, it's become clear why many, myself included, consider it a reliable go-to for a variety of needs, whether it's a quick coffee, a hearty meal, or a sweet treat. The ambiance at Joma is generally comfortable and welcoming. It strikes a nice balance between a casual cafe and a more established eatery. You'll often find a mix of locals, expats, and tourists, all enjoying the relaxed atmosphere, whether they're working on laptops, catching up with friends, or simply enjoying a break. While the prices might be a touch higher than some local options, the quality and consistency of their offerings often justify the cost. They provide a sense of familiarity and a taste of international cafe standards that many appreciate. For me, the Parisian Egger is an absolute standout and my all-time favorite order. There's something undeniably satisfying about this simple yet delicious breakfast item. The combination of perfectly cooked eggs, savory fillings (often including ham or bacon and cheese), all nestled within a flaky pastry, is a consistently enjoyable experience. It's the kind of dish that starts the day right or provides a comforting and satisfying bite at any time. Beyond the Parisian Egger, Joma boasts a diverse menu that caters to various tastes. From freshly baked pastries and breads to sandwiches, salads, and heartier meals, there's usually something for everyone. Their coffee selection is also commendable, offering a range of hot and cold beverages prepared to a good standard. The service at Joma is generally efficient and friendly. While it can get busy during peak hours, the staff usually manages to handle the flow effectively, ensuring a reasonably smooth experience. While it might not be the cheapest option in Vientiane, Joma provides a familiar and quality cafe experience that keeps many coming back, myself included, especially for that reliably delicious Parisian Egger. It's a solid choice when you're looking for a comfortable spot with a good menu and a consistent standard.

Good healthy food option..vegetarian and vegan option as well. Highly this restaurant if you are looking for good and healthy food. Big portion and plenty of seating at upstairs. Before you go upto 2nd floor, place the order at the counter first. Super friendly staffs and delicious food. I had a tofu sesame poke, a wrap and Guacamole. Everything was so delicious. Busy place during the meal time . I will go back for sure.
Michelle — Google review
Decided to try a new (to me) vegan restaurant in Vientiane. I tried the stuffed tofu rice bowl. The quality of the meal seemed good. The flavor was good. The portion was a bit disappointing, though, not out of line with most meals in SEA. Price was a bit high, too (195K - $10), but not out of line for the downtown/tourist part of Vientiane. A good meal, but I'm not clamoring to come back. Accepts credit cards. With a 3% fee (plus they charged me in dollars instead of Kip which gives a terrible exchange rate. Not cool). Wheelchair ramp - but super steep. I think it would be nearly impossible to go up it on your own, and difficult with help.

We visited this place for dinner and the food is really healthy and clean prepared. The prices are slightly higher than normal local eateries, but you get good value for your money. We had salmon wrap and chicken avo wrap, with potato wedges and 2 natural juices, and we paid 510k. But the food was plenty (huge wraps that came with salad). The food is tasty, and we had no issues after eating it. Go and eat here with trust!

Review: Disappointed – Needs Better Service and Cleanliness We decided to visit this Japanese restaurant but ended up walking out before ordering. The atmosphere didn’t feel welcoming. One of the staff members was loudly speaking or shouting at another staff—not directly at us, but it made the place feel uncomfortable. Maybe it’s part of their work culture, but as a customer, it didn’t give a good impression. The restaurant was also quite dark and didn’t feel clean. It could use better lighting and tidying up. On top of that, the pricing felt too high—ramen was 188,000 kip, while other Japanese restaurants in town offer similar dishes for around 100,000 kip with a much better environment and service. We’re not writing this to complain, but to give honest feedback. We hope the management will consider improving the cleanliness, atmosphere, and staff behavior to give customers a better experience.

May Yuan Chinese Restaurant is a popular dining spot in Vientiane, offering an extensive menu of traditional Chinese dishes. The restaurant is known for its warm and inviting atmosphere, elegant decor, and comfortable seating. It's a must-visit for anyone craving authentic and delicious Chinese cuisine. While some find the prices a bit high, others praise the professional service and recommend trying the dim sum. Located on the second floor of a hotel lobby, it offers good parking options.
Like taking a step back in time, where ancient Chinese culinary traditions are not just preserved; they are celebrated. The dim sum selection is a showcase of recipes handed down through generations, each bite a testament to the depth and richness of Chinese cuisine. The authenticity of flavors is palpable, from the delicate wrappers of the dumplings to the robust fillings that burst with tradition. However, the star of the show, the dish that truly stands out among an already impressive lineup, is the lava bun. It's not just good; it's exceptional. Hot, with a juicy, sweet custard center that perfectly balances richness and sweetness, the lava bun is a marvel of culinary excellence. Be prepared for a wait, though. With an average wait time of at least 45 minutes, Makes no compromises on quality. Each dish, including the celebrated lava buns, is prepared fresh, crafted with care and precision that's well worth the wait. The lava bun, with its warm, oozing center and soft, pillowy exterior, captures the essence of what makes special. It's a blend of tradition and indulgence, a dish that alone is worth the visit. This commitment to freshness, quality, and tradition elevates the dining experience, making a must-visit for anyone seeking to indulge in the best of Chinese dim sum.

The rooms are lovingly furnished, spacious and with very comfortable bedding. The staff are friendly, attentive and very professional. There is a fantastic sophisticated rooftop bar which is serviced by the lovely “Bo” who is both charming and a wizard with cocktails (thanks for looking after us Bo). I must comment on the breakfast. It is without doubt the best offering I have experience in a long time. Full credit to the staff and chefs. Just a well run and wonderfully presented property. Many thanks from Roy Jones & Julie Miller

Stayed for 2 nights. Really nice hotel with polite and friendly staff. I'm not usually a breakfast person but I have to say the breakfast here was amazing. There was a large range of buffet type items as well as loads of made to order options.

Salana Boutique Hotel is a true gem in the heart of Vientiane. The location is excellent — close to key landmarks, restaurants, and the Mekong River. The service is outstanding; the staff are warm, attentive, and always ready to assist with a smile. The hotel itself is beautifully designed with a mix of modern comfort and traditional Lao charm. A perfect choice for travelers seeking quality, convenience, and genuine hospitality in the capital. Highly recommended.

I have certainly enjoyed my stay at Salana. The room was clean and comfortable. The amenities were complete and the breakfast was excellent. Front office staff were courteous, and helpful. Location is central to night markets, cafes, mini markets, massage shops. I hope to stay at Salana again in my next trip there.

Good western Quality. After 10 days riding the bike through Laos at very simple remote places - a hotel like Salana is a perfect location for ending up the vacation in Laos. Very luxurious, very comfortable, very good service. Silent and clean. Highly recommended

We stayed one night from 8/8 to 9/8. It was our first day in Laos and this place was the perfect place to kickstart our trip. Every staff we encountered was friendly and helpful. The room was very well furnished and the bed was huge and so comfortable. Breakfast was excellent too! Thank you to for the wonderful stay. I would highly recommend this place.

“Great place with helpful staffs” The hotel was clean, and staffs were helpful. The breakfast menu are available to order and there were plenty of options. Distance is a bit of walk from the night market and food options. Do double check the number of pax of the booking - we booked a twin room, assuming the price is included for 2 pax, however had to pay additional charges upon checkout as it was price for one pax only.

Salana Boutique Hotel in Vientiane is a charming and stylish oasis. From the moment you step in, you're greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The rooms are beautifully decorated, impeccably clean, and feature comfortable beds ensuring a restful night's sleep. The staff is incredibly friendly, attentive, and always willing to go the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable. The central location makes it easy to explore the city's attractions, and the courtyard pool provides a welcome respite from the heat. The breakfast is delicious with a good variety of options. Overall, Salana offers excellent value and a truly memorable experience, making it a top choice for a boutique hotel in Vientiane.

Kouvieng Fried Chicken (KFC) is a popular eatery in Vientiane, Laos, known for serving some of the best fried chicken in the area. Despite its humble shack-like appearance on Khouvieng Road, locals and visitors alike flock to this spot. The simple menu offers delicious fried chicken, french fries, and papaya salad at very affordable prices.
Great locals place for friend chicken and Sam Tam it is open late. Delicious will visit again!

20000kip, certainly cheap. but definitely not a fried chicken to rave about. i agree with some reviews below that there's too much batter which is crunchy (yup, crunchy, not crispy), and is lacking in flavour. i can see why it is a popular spot due to its price, but unless you are in the area, it's not worth a trip down.

Tasty and cheap fried chicken with fries 1 set of 1 piece chicken with some fries costs only 15k They also have “som tam” (green papaya salad ). 1 set of Som Tam costs 15k also.

The french fried was soft and gravy, better not to order. The chicken was more dough then meat. In the past it was very good but now better to skip this "restaurant".

Laotian restaurant
Han Sam Euay Nong, also known as the 'Three Sisters Restaurant', is a family-run establishment located near the riverside in Vientiane. It offers a valuable buffet-style lunch with a variety of delicious dishes to try. The restaurant is a great place to fuel up before exploring the crowded night market.
I eat here virtually every evening during my monthly visit. The food here is fantastic and very affordable. The portion sizes is typically asian. I usually order a main and a side of vegetables or salad and fried eggs. Sometimes Service was alright. I enjoyed sitting outside on the stone chair and table for my meals.

This bustling restaurant has earned a reputation as a must-visit destination for those wishing to indulge in the vibrant flavours of authentic Lao cuisine. Even during peak hours, the establishment operates with a remarkable efficiency that ensures patrons are seated and served promptly. The attentive staff members, known for their warm hospitality, are always on hand to offer recommendations and cater to diners' needs. The menu is a delightful journey through Laos's culinary treasures, showcasing an impressive array of dishes. From cherished traditional favourites that embody the essence of Lao culture to comforting noodle creations that warm the soul, there is something to satisfy every palate. It’s an ideal spot for tourists keen to immerse themselves in the local flavours and experience a true taste of Laos.

One of the popular restaurants of Vientiane. It was located next to our hotel and the first meal we had at Laos was at this restaurant embracing local food at the earliest. Communication can be a bit of a challenge as english is not known to most of the ones serving but the menu has pictures which you can point out to while ordering. Laotian noodles soup and fried rice was our regular order when we dined here. The lao coffee is avoidable out here and better tried at coffee shops nearby. We met the 3 sisters who were very catering and sweet. Loved the entire vibe of this place and it is a must visit when at Vientiane.
Raunak B — Google review
Good cheap food in a place that feels less touristy for being in a pretty touristy part of town. Not fancy. I didn’t love the spring rolls but I liked how they cut them into bite sizes. I asked for spicy and I feel like they didn’t go all the way spicy.
Philippa H — Google review
Absolutely excellent. Extensive menu. All classics cooked to perfection. Friendly service. Sumptuous smoothies.
Floyd C — Google review
Sat and waited forever before they finally took my order and the food was awful. It was an empty restaurant so not even busy. I ordered Nan cau which I’ve had many times and is a savory dish but they mixed coconut milk and lime juice which made it absolutely disgusting. Plus they were rude and so slow. I still paid even though they served me cold dog food. This place is a trap stay away.
Sean J — Google review
Heard about reputation & good reviews here. But food was not expected. They have both Thai and Laos dishes. Taste of dishes we ordered so very normal, not too bad not too good. A bit salty. Long list menu, many eaters, large house with many tables.
Hoang N — Google review
If you are in Vientiane, this place is a must-go. I think i went there like 3 or 4 times during the very short time i stayed in Vientiane. Very nice place for foodie who want to try the Laotian dishes as well as Vietnamese ones. The staffs and all three sisters(aunties i would say) are very friendly. The staff can speak English and mostly understand what you mean so you can tell them if you cannot handle spiciness of spme dishes. Or maybe ask them how it taste in advance. The prices are really reasonble and really worth it given the taste and service. I personally recommend Laotian noodle bowl(it was sooooo good) and rice and beef stir-fry. You can also try other meat dishes and salads if you want to explore more flavors. Be careful with salads since they are mostly quite spicy. Always paired spicy dishes with some fruit shakes, you will love it.

Sunbeam Hotel offers a comfortable and budget-friendly stay, perfect for travelers seeking convenience without breaking the bank. The spacious double rooms come equipped with essential amenities like a wardrobe, dressing table, chairs, and fridge. While there is no elevator service available—meaning guests may need to manage their luggage independently—the staff is generally friendly and helpful when approached.
This place is great for what you pay. The rooms are large and clean. The showers are wonderful - hot water and good pressure. (You may need to let the water run a while to get hot, but it will come!) The staff is helpful. It's old and basic, but clean. No elevator, but you can also leave your luggage you don't need downstairs. We've stayed here many times. The location is also great. Easy walking distance to many good restaurants.
Christa L — Google review
I stayed here for a few nights the rooms were clean but a little simple. the bed was on the smaller side and a little bit hard but it was still comfortable and the sheets were clean the room had a nice little balcony and everything was clean and kept in good condition and the staff cleaned the room every day for me the bathroom had good water pressure and hot water actually very hot water and was decently appointed and the AC was absolutely amazing it was super strong and clean and the staff gave me a fair exchange rate when I paid in Thai baht. Also it's got an awesome location with a real quick walk to massage shops pizza parlors many restaurants and the Waterfront Night Market I can recommend it if you're looking for a clean budget stay. Overall I would probably give it 4.5 for the price and the area there was no TV in the room but the Wi-Fi was good
Tim H — Google review
This is a crazily dirty place… bed sheets, pillows full of stains. Tons of mosquitoes at night. Unbearably noisy AC. I doubt if they ever cleaned the room. So dirty. Did not sleep well and left as early as possible.

Located in the area closely to food night market and also just 7 min walk to Vientiane night market. It is located in downtown but not noisy. Staff are friendly and can communicate well with English. Breakfast is acceptable. Rooms are clean.

Beautiful hotel. Staffs are so wonderful and kind. Hotel can sleep up to 4 people if you are looking to save some money and don’t care sharing beds. They keep the place very clean and every time you go in and out they always greet you. I would definitely come and stay here again next time i am in Laos.

Loudly AC, cannot sleep overnight Please avoid this hotel. Very bad
Chatpong C — Google review
Nice and friendly staff. The room is well-maintained and clean. The location is quite convenient because it is near the bus station A5 if you want to come to the hotel from the airport. One more plus point is it is quite near to the touristy places and night market but it is far enough to avoid the noise from those areas at night. The minus point is it takes a bit for the water in the bathroom to get warm.

Nestled in the heart of Vientiane, Mekong Riverside accommodation offers a charming blend of old-world charm and modern amenities. This beautifully maintained French Colonial hotel boasts immaculate cleanliness that will leave you in awe. The friendly staff goes above and beyond to ensure your stay is comfortable, providing helpful service with a smile. Guests can enjoy an array of facilities including a gym, bar, restaurant, and an inviting pool perfect for relaxation after exploring the nearby attractions.
This hotel is exactly what you pay for: budget-friendly and basic. I stayed here for 4 nights and was pleasantly surprised. The staff were very polite and I get early check in at 10 am !!! The room was small but very clean, and the bed was comfortable. AC worked well and the Wi-Fi was surprisingly fast. The shower had good hot water and decent pressure. It's definitely a no-frills experience—don't expect a lot of amenities—but for the price, you really can't complain. The location is excellent, right near with the night market and everywhere. A perfect choice for solo or couple travelers or those on a tight budget who prioritize cleanliness and location.
Mochammad H — Google review
The rooms without windows are small and depressing, but clean. Ok for the money and 1 - 2 nights. Location is near the night market in the tourist area.
Mes C — Google review
The staff is okay enough but if you reserve in advance you cannot pay by card, cash only and it was slightly more than advertised. The room is decent, but the walls are so thin that you hear everything from multiple rooms. Even worse is that the reception is in the center between all rooms less than 2 meters away so people that come at night or early morning will disturb all customers, and since no one is at the reception at night people ring the bell and wake up everyone, it happened 3 times in 2 nights. The worst sleep I had. Also cockroaches in the room and so much mosquitos that when I sprayed with bugspray I could pick them off my bed. Edit: its funny they replied, I will update the review accordingly. They say they watch through the camera but that doesnt matter if no one is at the reception. That doesnt prevent people from coming in and ringing the bell cause they see no one is there. Also the power went out and their camera they say they watch through started loudly saying connecting multiple times, waking me up even more. And then you cant even sleep in late because there is no sound isolation because people that leave talk loudly and you can hear them cleaning the room.

location good, service good .. room Ok .. few staff know good English .. room walls made by ply wood so its very thin ... air conditioner little bit slow but Ok .. you can rent bike scooters… airport taxi pickup or drop available .. laundry also .. I stayed here from October 1st to 3rd, 2025. 1. The address on this hotel is quite inconspicuous. The taxi dropped me off at the hotel next door, and I had to ask several people before I could find it. 2. The waitress, a beautiful dark-skinned woman who spoke English, told me the price for two nights was $34.20, and I gave her $35. She didn't have $0.80 to change, so she exchanged it for Laotian kip and only gave me 10,000 kip. Based on the exchange rate, she should have given me 15,000 kip. 3. The room was compact with a lovely balcony. It was noisy at night, but I could sleep there. 4. Motorcycles can be parked safely in the hallway downstairs.

Mekong Riverside accomodation (room nr 7) Booked this place just for luggage storage during the day as the airport doesn't have any, so booked the cheapest place I could find. +Location, some restaurants nearby. +Got the room before the check-in time, but as we had big luggages and there is no elevator we left the luggages near the reception, too heavy to walk up on all those stairs with it. +Could borrow umbrella because of rain. +Can't book a 7 seat minivan from the app 'LOCA' (like Uber and Grab), so I booked a car with my app and the reception staff booked another car with her app and we paid the staff by cash (80.000 kip) to have 2 cars to airport. -Old place, need renovation. -No elevator, the stairs are steep up to 2nd floor. Look at my pictures.
H N — Google review
Room was as expected. I didn’t want a noisy room so asked for one at the back. You have to say what time you are going to arrive as the reception isn’t manned all the time. I got polite and helpful service. As I’m an older female I would have appreciated help with my bag but it was OK. If you do your research you’ll know there isn’t a lift so I don’t think there’s much point complaining about it after booking. The bathroom could have been cleaner but the location is great and I’ve booked to stay again next year.

Fu Man Lou Restaurant is a hidden gem that may not be well-known among tourists, but it offers a delightful dining experience. Despite potential language barriers, the staff manages to serve generous portions of rice and multiple dishes. The restaurant's interior is clean and inviting, with private rooms available for a more intimate dining experience. The menu features typical Chinese-Hokkien style cuisine with wide variety and delicious flavors. While service can be slow at times, the food is tasty and reasonably priced.
Nice food but must more budget needed

Our first time having our meal here. The interior is very nice and clean. We were ushered to a private room. It was very big, however the air-conditioning could be better. The food was very typical Chinese-Hokkien style. We all liked the food here. Very wide spread menu. We like the taste too. They could improve on the speed of service, though.

Nestled in the heart of Vientiane, Le Silapa Restaurant is a charming spot that elevates your dining experience with its exquisite French cuisine. This upscale eatery stands out for its authentic dishes and an impressive wine selection, making it a perfect choice for those looking to indulge in something special. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, ideal for enjoying a leisurely meal or catching up with friends over lunch. With main courses starting around 6 USD, it's considered relatively affordable given the quality offered.
We had an afternoon meal here and it was all perfect. Food is great and beautifully plated, the wine was good. Cozy and quiet, probably at dinner time it gets more busy.

Visited in June 2015. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor of IBeam, opposite to Wat Ong Teu. Comfy relaxing ambience, seems popular among local during lunch hour. Price at the high side. There's set lunch menu, 1 course cost 60k kips, 2 courses 90k kips and 3 course meal at 120k kips, comes with complimentary coffee or tea. We ordered the Tilapia fillet with red wine source and creme brulee from the 2 courses set lunch as well as New Zealand Veal Tenderloin in blueberries sauce (190k kips). The fish was tender, red wine sauce was tasted better than the blueberry sauce. The veal cooked to perfection and very tender, the sweet potato puree was nice and the sauteed mushrooms a bit to the salty side, the blueberry sauce was a bit disappointing. It was not blend in well enough with the veal. The creme brulee was sweet and smooth (if ordered separately from lunch set, it will cost 60k kips). The lunch cost total 280k kips (USD$35 @fx rate of $1=8k kips).
