French restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Vientiane, Settha Palace Hotel is a luxurious Colonial-style hotel with over 80 years of history. The hotel offers tastefully decorated guestrooms, a free-form pool, fitness room, and business facilities. Its French colonial architecture and period furniture exude elegance and charm. Guests can indulge in an opulent experience surrounded by history and sophistication while enjoying modern amenities and refined quarters.
Our second visit here, first was in March 2020 just as the world was shutting down. Nice to see the hotel hasn’t changed at all. We like the faded colonial grandeur and found it convenient to walk to most of the temples and restaurants. Also has a lovely pool and garden and decent massages in the spa.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The hotel is traditional so expect an old school feel. You won’t get modern touches here. The service level is excellent and the included breakfast is good. We did find the room to be a bit dated but that is in keeping with the traditional feel of the hotel. The location of the hotel is a bit out of the way from main attractions. That being said, I don’t think there are many good options in Vientiane in general so we were happy with this hotel overall.
Patrick T — Google review
The hotel and everything in it looks absolutely amazing. Very stylish and thoroughly classic. Rooms, service, amenities are great. The executive suite is so splendid you would never want to leave. Doesn’t have a lift but rooms are just 1 floor up. The luxurious atmosphere comes at a price though, which is closer to European than to local.
Fkod — Google review
Love the historical building in which the hotel is housed in, the high ceiling room with dark tropical wood furniture & 4 poster bed adds to the charm of the stay. Staff were attentive, together with the large modern pool & isolated massage villas made the whole experience magical. Ate at the hotel restaurant which has excellent French & Laotian food, especially recommend the Luang Prabang sausages, Larb salad & duck confit! Almost forgot to mention, the crispy on the outside & soft inside French bread roll … sooo yummy!
Sharon B — Google review
We had a great time at Settha Palace. The hotel is back a bit from the main strip but it is only a 5 minute walk and I enjoyed it being in a quieter part of town. The rooms are all beautiful and it is like stepping back in time. We were there when it was a little quieter and received an upgrade. The staff are the beating heart of this place, they cannot do enough to help you and really made our time their special. We will certainly be staying here again next time we are in Vientiane.
Kane T — Google review
We really liked this historic hotel. The rooms are a good size and the employees are great. We also enjoyed our meals (especially breakfast) in the restaurant. Very convent for walking into town. Thanks for a great visit!
Mark S — Google review
The Settha Palace Hotel is an experience in itself, transporting you back to a bygone era of colonial elegance. Stepping into this beautifully restored hotel is like entering a living museum, with its grand architecture, antique furniture, and impeccable service. While the rooms are not ultra-modern, they are spacious, well-maintained, and filled with character. The meticulously manicured gardens offer a tranquil escape from the bustling city. The dining options are excellent, though pricier than other local establishments. Be prepared for a higher price point, but if you're looking for a truly luxurious and memorable stay in Vientiane, steeped in history and charm, the Settha Palace is an unforgettable choice.
David A — Google review
At $250US per night, Seetha Palace positions itself as a premium accommodation option in Vientiane. Unfortunately, the experience fell way short of the five-star expectations set by this above average pricing for Laos. The property appears to be resting on its historical reputation rather than delivering contemporary luxury standards. The facilities and furnishings show noticeable wear, creating a disconnect between the premium rates and the actual experience. Sadly, we were expecting to stay at a Laos version of 'Raffles' given the hotel's reputation. Breakfast offerings lacked variety and freshness—the same selection appeared daily, featuring tired pastries and packaged juices rather than the quality spread one would expect at this price point. (It doesn't cost much to have freshly squeezed juices and croissants/ bread delivered daily). The poolside service missed opportunities to deliver five-star touches—no complimentary water or refreshing towels were offered proactively. While the staff were friendly, their service approach suggested a need for enhanced training consistent with luxury hospitality standards. Our room was tired looking; there was no coffee machine, super cheap slippers and non descript toiletries. Bathrooms definitely need an update. For comparison, our stay at the Crowne Plaza (at approximately half the price) offered far superior value with personalized service, diverse breakfast options with made-to-order items, in-room coffee facilities, club lounge access, and turndown service. I know you can't compare a big chain hotel to a boutique hotel but the contrast in both service and value was startling. The Seetha Palace has potential but requires significant updating and service improvements to justify its price. It's a pity because the hotel building is beautiful and has so much potential.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Vientiane, Crowne Plaza Vientiane, an IHG Hotel, is a stunning blend of modern luxury and traditional Lao charm. Just a short drive from Wattay International Airport and within walking distance to the serene Mekong River, this hotel is perfect for both business and leisure travelers. With 198 elegantly designed rooms and suites that offer breathtaking river views, guests can enjoy a tranquil retreat after exploring the city.
We had a fantastic stay at Crowne Plaza. The room was spacious and felt almost brand new. Pool and gym facilities were excellent, with staff on hand at all times to ensure we were looked after. A special mention for Paul who welcomed us when we checked in. The service we received from him was second to none. My partner mentioned that it was our anniversary and we came back to the room to find the bed made up beautifully, and later we were gifted a chocolate dessert! We will be back in a heartbeat when visiting Vientiane again.

Spent a couple nights here and it was a great stay for my birthday! Staff made me feel welcome and the decorated bed and cake really made my day. I also loved the real plants they upkeep nicely, especially the big beautiful orchids at the front desk. The staff tried to be helpful with my currency exchange issue but I ended up having to get in contact with my American bank to get $ from the ATM. The gym and pool were nice, outdoor showers were really convenient and they were accommodating that I spent the whole day after checkout vegging around waiting on my sleeper bus. Oh and I ate at the restaurant on the first floor and it was delicious! Got the soft shell crab (good but gave me bad heartburn rip) and chocolate banana lava cake 10/10 plus a couple complimentary foods I appreciated!

We had a great stay at this Crowne Plaza. The staff was excellent! From arrival to departure, we felt taken care of. The room was huge and the bathroom had a private commode, a must for a 5-star hotel. The Elephant Lounge was great, 5-star service. The Mosaic could use some help. They only had one wine list so we had to wait until other tables were done with it, not 5-stars at all. The food was mediocre too. Their gym is new and very complete. Overall a great stay. Thank you staff for making our stay extra special.
Aris G — Google review
The room was a comfortable size — not too small or cramped. It had both a bathtub and a separate shower, which made things very convenient. The in-room facilities were fully equipped without needing to ask for anything extra. Breakfast was quite good with a nice variety of options. Unfortunately, there were some serious downsides. The deposit charged per room for meals was unusually high. Even worse, the bathroom was not properly cleaned — I found a curly hair on the wall, which was very unpleasant, and a strand of hair on the bed. These hygiene issues should never happen in any hotel. When reported, the staff only offered an apology without any compensation or solution, which was disappointing. Because of this, I don’t think I’ll be staying here again.
Parittabha K — Google review
We stayed at the Crowne for 4 days and this hotel met and exceeded all our expectations. Lovely staff all around from the warm welcome we received at breakfast from Ling to the very nice gym. Very impressed with the breakfast selection. I travel quite often and stay at many hotels. This is definitely one of the better ones. A pleasant surprise!

Took 100 of my deposit instead of 50 because they dont have change. And took so long to give me back and made me almost miss my flight. However, cute welcome snack, local rice cracker, very tasty. Rooms definitely more fancy than holiday inn and price was okay
Feodora K — Google review
Our 5-night business stay at the Crowne Plaza exceeded all expectations for a hotel chain establishment. The standouts were the consistently fresh, delicious food and the exceptional staff—particularly Nok at the Club Lounge, whose personable service made a lasting impression. The rooms were thoughtfully appointed with all the essentials a business traveler needs: reliable WiFi, quality coffee machine, comfortable bed, international power outlets, and premium toiletries. My only minor observation was the absence of throw pillows on the sofa, a small detail in an otherwise complete package. The fitness center and pool facilities were top-notch and well-maintained. Without question, this is our preferred accommodation choice in Vientiane. Highly recommended for both business and leisure travelers seeking quality and consistent service.

Excellent hotel. Well maintained. Looks brand new, despite opening in 2017. All the staff were professional and friendly. Food and beverages here are high quality, hygienic, and taste great. I would definitely stay here again.

Eastin Hotel Vientiane Laos offers clean and new accommodation with good overall service. While the WiFi may have some issues, the staff is attentive and quick to assist with any concerns, such as fixing the air conditioner. The spacious rooms are comfortable for two people, and the bathroom is well-maintained with a good water system. The breakfast focuses on quality and taste, particularly fresh salad vegetables.
Unforgettable Stay at Eastin Hotel Vientiane ! I spent two nights at Eastin Hotel Vientiane and had an amazing experience from start to the end. The rooftop is a highlight, perfect for sunset drinks or dinner with panoramic views over the Mekong River. The food throughout the hotel was delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of choices to suit all tastes, and the lounge restaurant downstairs is a great option for lunch or dinner, especially when the weather isn’t ideal for the rooftop. My room was spacious, comfortable, and had a breathtaking view of the river. The swimming pool also overlooks the Mekong, making it a peaceful spot to relax. Everything from the service to the setting made my stay memorable. I highly recommend this hotel if you’re visiting Vientiane, and I’ll definitely come back !

I had a wonderful stay at the Eastin Hotel in Vientiane. From the moment I arrived, the staff were warm, attentive, and always willing to help, which made me feel very welcome. My room was spacious, modern, and spotlessly clean, offering everything I needed for a comfortable stay. The facilities were excellent, with a lovely atmosphere throughout the hotel, and the breakfast selection was varied and delicious, with both local and international options. The location was also convenient, making it easy to explore the city. Overall, the Eastin Hotel provided a perfect balance of comfort and hospitality, and I would happily return on my next visit to Vientiane.

Warm and friendly smiles from the staff made me felt welcomed on my first trip to Laos. Being polite, courteous and informative, added to the excellent service by all the staff at the hotel. Our room was spacious, super clean, elegantly decorated, quiet as requested. It looks exactly like the pictures in Trip. Com. We had a balcony with a view of Mekong river, which is lovely at night. Beds and pillows are comfy. Buffet breakfast spread was adequate, a mix of Asian and Western fare. The Hotel provide their own app for requesting various hotel services and amenities, nice touch. They also have shuttle service to Namphu Park and Night market to and from the hotel from 10.00am to 9.00pm daily. Thanks for the warm hospitality and keeping us safe during our stay.
Poh L — Google review
I stayed in a suite for six days and five nights. The room was incredibly clean, and the staff were exceptionally friendly. I also loved the beautiful view of the Mekong River with Thailand visible across the way. While the hotel is a bit far from the main nightlife area, I actually preferred the quiet atmosphere. It was also convenient to use the hotel's app for requests like housekeeping and laundry pickup. I'm so grateful for the staff's kind and attentive service. I'll definitely be staying here again on my future visits to Vientiane. See you again in September and December!

had an absolutely wonderful stay at this hotel. Everything was perfect from start to finish – the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable, and all the facilities worked really well. The location was convenient and made my trip even better. Honestly, I can’t find a single fault. If 10/10 is the maximum rating, I would happily give 11/10. I truly enjoyed my experience and would love to come back again. Highly recommended!
Nur S — Google review
The hotel service was great. We requested a larger room, with a good view of the river and extra pillows which the provided. They also provided a free shuttle bus pickup from the airport and the best part is they a have free shuttle bus service every hour to the city centre so you don’t need to walk or get transport. I couldn’t recommended any better.
Heavenly F — Google review
Compact rooms but very clean and well maintained. The hotel offers a free hourly shuttle to the night market and city centre, which is super convenient. Breakfast spread was great, and the staff were genuinely helpful. Would definitely recommend this place!

“Excellent service and friendly staffs” The hotel stay was great experience from start to end. The staffs were very helpful, even tough the location is slightly far, there were shuttle provided to and from night market, which made things very convenient for us. You can catch good sunset on the walk right opposite of the hotel. Breakfast options are plenty and they also provided takeaways for those early departures.

Hotel Review: A Stunning Oasis in Vientiane We stayed at this hotel for two days upon our arrival in Vientiane, and it was truly amazing—highly recommended! We had an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. First of all, we chose the airport pickup service, and it exceeded our expectations. Not only was the driver there to greet us, but a staff member from the reception was also present. They welcomed us with a traditional local treat and refreshing cold water. Despite the short drive, the staff member gave us an insightful introduction to the city, making the ride both enjoyable and informative. It was such a warm and thoughtful welcome that made us feel instantly at home. At the reception, the team was incredibly kind and accommodating. The check-in process was quick and efficient, and even though we arrived early, our room was already ready. The property itself is absolutely stunning—an oasis of peace and greenery right in the heart of the city. Our room was beautiful, spotlessly clean, and perfectly located. It was the ideal place to relax after exploring Vientiane. The breakfast was excellent, with great attention to detail and delicious options. We also dined at the hotel one evening, and the food was fantastic. The service was attentive and professional, ensuring a wonderful dining experience. Overall, we had an amazing stay. The combination of exceptional service, beautiful surroundings, and a serene atmosphere made it unforgettable. We highly, highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Vientiane!

Nice hotel, quiet and peaceful. Safe area. Comfortable, quiet room, comfortable bed. Excellent, friendly staff always ready to help and respectful. It is about 2.5 km from city center but easy to get transportation to visit most of the sites. Good breakfast, nice swimming pool. Fitness room pretty good but we didn't get chance to use it. Big shopping centers close by. Laundry place about 5 minutes walk. We will stay here again if visit this area.
Dineshkant P — Google review
The only place to stay in Vientiane! Beautiful rooms, sky blue pool and cosy restaurant selling local and Asian cuisine. The staff were incredible- very attentive and forthcoming. Breakfast was extensive with both Asian and western options in addition to a buffet- so much to choose. They even had an extensive vegan menu! Lovely gym too.
Hannah T — Google review
The location is excellent, being very close to a signature shopping mall in Vientiane capital. However, since it is located along a main road, there is heavy vehicular traffic, so one needs to be cautious while walking. The entrance may not appear very luxurious, but stepping inside reveals a different world. The accommodation area is surrounded by lush forest, with a pool at its center. This setting is incredibly comfortable, with the sound of birds chirping adding to the serene atmosphere, making it perfect for an afternoon nap. The poolside also doubles as a bar, allowing guests to enjoy refreshing drinks. Breakfast offers a delightful experience where you can choose a main dish and also pick items from the buffet corner. The main dishes are sophisticated and, judging by the photos, seem to be restaurant-quality. For non-guests, the breakfast costs 18 USD per person. There is also a gym, which is well-equipped, providing ample facilities for a good workout.

Absolutely phenomenal! The atmosphere was so relaxing. We had a special celebration and the staff went above and beyond to make the stay enjoyable. The rooms were beautiful and incredible, the pool was spotless and well-maintained, and breakfast offered so many delicious options. Surrounded by so much nature, it truly feels like a beautiful botanical garden. I highly recommend this hotel!

Patuxay, also known as the Victory Monument, is a striking war memorial in Vientiane. Resembling the Arc de Triomphe from afar, it stands at the city center and symbolizes Laos' liberation and independence. The monument features traditional Laotian carvings and Buddha figures, giving it a unique blend of European and local influences.
A very important monument for Laos which commemorates their independence from France. It really was a sight to see. Loved how it looks at night too and you will see the fountains with colorful lights. You can also go up inside where you can learn more about its history and some other facts about Laos. You can also see the view from above. The ticket is 30,000 kip for foreigners. You can only go up until 5pm. A great place to see when in Laos.
Aibi Y — Google review
Highly recommend this monument that is very similar to Paris' Arc de Triumphe. There is a small entrance fee for adults where visitors climb stairs into a few exhibition halls that outlines the construction history and cultural significance of this monument. Quite informative and interesting. Beautiful architecture and recently restored, this monument has pleasant garden surroundings and water fountains. Nice escape from the sun and heat during the day. Water fountain show can be enjoyed in evenings. Nice panoramic views of Vientiane city.
Albert L — Google review
A must-visit place in Vientiane because it is beautiful and elegant with rich history and stories. It also serves as a small galley to tell the story and history behind it once you purchase the ticket and walk inside and all the way to the top. The view on the top is incredible. Don’t miss out on it.
Gary C — Google review
This is one of the most popular tourist attractions that you must visit if you are in Laos. A nice place to take a photos. The architecture is beautiful. Highly recommended!
Din N — Google review
Beautiful building with some interesting history which you can read about inside when you climb up. The view from the top is great, you can see all of Vientiane. Also if you come at the right time, the music will start playing and the fountains start to dance along to the music - I think it may be around 4pm or 4:30pm.

The Victory Monument in downtown Vientiane, Laos, was built between 1957 and 1968. Known as Patuxai, Victory Gate or Gate of Triumph, is a war monument dedicated to those who fought in the struggle for independence from France. A piece of interesting history : the monument was built using American funds and cement actually intended to build a new airport. Knowing the history made the visit more interesting

well worth a visit on a clear day. I belive night has light shows on the fountains but then can't go up. very hot up there so take sunglasses etc.

A Must-See Landmark in Vientiane Patuxai, or the Victory Monument, is one of the most iconic and impressive landmarks in Vientiane. The structure is grand and beautifully designed, inspired by the Arc de Triomphe in Paris but with stunning Laotian architectural details that make it truly unique. Climbing to the top is absolutely worth it — the panoramic view over the city is fantastic, especially during sunset. Along the way up, there are small souvenir shops and exhibits that give you a bit of history and local culture. The surrounding park is peaceful and well-kept, perfect for a relaxing stroll or taking photos. It’s also beautifully lit in the evening, giving it a magical atmosphere. Whether you’re interested in history, architecture, or just want to enjoy a great view of Vientiane, Patuxai is a must-visit. Don’t miss it!

The Golden Heart of Laos – A Must-Visit Landmark in Vientiane Pha That Luang, also known as the Great Stupa, is the most iconic and sacred monument in Laos. Located a few kilometers from the city center, this golden stupa stands proudly as a symbol of Lao identity, Buddhism, and national pride. Visiting here feels like stepping into the spiritual heart of the country. The main stupa is completely covered in gold paint and shines beautifully under the sunlight. It’s surrounded by smaller stupas, temples, and statues that add to the site’s grandeur. The architecture is both impressive and symbolic — every level of the structure represents a different stage of Buddhist enlightenment. The golden color glows even more brightly in the early morning or late afternoon, making it perfect for photos. Inside the compound, there are several shrines and Buddha images, along with a small museum that explains the history of Pha That Luang and its restorations. The grounds are spacious, clean, and peaceful, with plenty of areas to walk around or sit quietly. You can truly feel the spiritual atmosphere here, especially when local monks and worshippers come to pray. The entrance fee is 30,000 Kip for foreigners and 5,000 Kip for locals, which is very reasonable. Whether you’re interested in architecture, religion, or Lao culture, Pha That Luang is an absolute must-see when visiting Vientiane — a golden symbol of faith and unity that truly represents the soul of Laos. 🌕🙏

Wonderful day celebrating the holiday with my family. We went in the afternoon to avoid the crowds, but all the vendors were still available selling local, delicious food and drinks. We had a wonderful time. If you don't know, long pants and full shirts are required to enter the temple itself. If you don't wear that, the proper attire can be rented for a very small fee and deposit just outside the actual temple. See photos attached. Beautiful Buddhist Temple. Must see if you're in Vientiane

The stupa was built by King Setthathirat in 1566, after Vientiane became the capital of Laos. With a height of 44 meters, Pha That Luang has a pinnacle covered in real gold, with a set of painted turrets surrounding its central stupa. Incidentally Pha That Luang means 'great golden stupa'. Impressive glittery structure

A gorgeous gold pagoda or stupa. The surrounding temple area has many artefacts to check out. This a place worth visiting, there is also a statue of a Lao king outside the main complex. A good way to escape the heat of the Laotian weather is to walk under the cool clay tiled corridors - a bit of ancient engineering to battle the afternoon heat.
Sumiitra S — Google review
Beautiful monument, the gold paint shimmers in sun light. Very calm and positive energies. You can sit, meditate and relax.
Aakash V — Google review
This is an iconic Lao monument, so worth seeing just for that. With ticket you don't get to enter it or anything like that, you just see an inner courtyard and can get a little bit closer, and a few steps up to some shrines. So for buget travelers a good opportunity to save $1.50 and see almost the same from outside. Also, abandon all hope of wrong cultural dancing, not allowed.
Inga K — Google review
Awesome historical temple, it was a dream to make it there. However, to be the most symbolic temple in Laos I think they could do a better job with the maintenance of the place.

Wat Sisaket is a remarkable 19th-century Siamese-style temple in Vientiane, Laos. It was constructed by the last king of the Vientiane Kingdom and is one of the oldest temples in the city. The temple houses a museum and cloister wall that contains thousands of small Buddhas.
A great place to visit when in Vientiane. It is said to be one of the oldest surviving temple in Vientiane. There were massive collection of Buddha statues around the premises and the walkway. The temple was a sight to see as well. Enjoyed walking around the premises and savoring the history it holds. Such a beautiful place.

Huge Temple. In the middle is a 18th century temple with old Buddha and the wall is painted in 18th century art. Beautiful temple and Aesthetic design. 30k kip entrance fee for Foreigners for the middle temple. The whole temple is free and no entrance fee needed.

Sisaket Museum is one of the most remarkable and serene cultural landmarks in Vientiane. Built in 1818 by King Anouvong, it is known as the oldest surviving temple in the city, and it beautifully represents a blend of Lao and Siamese architectural styles. The moment you enter the temple grounds, you can feel a deep sense of peace and history — the calm atmosphere, traditional wooden structures, and shady trees make it a truly spiritual experience. The highlight of Wat Sisaket is the cloister surrounding the main ordination hall, where more than 6,000 Buddha images are displayed. These statues, made of bronze, wood, silver, and stone, range in size from tiny to life-sized and are arranged neatly in small wall niches. It’s an amazing sight that shows the deep Buddhist devotion of the Lao people. Inside the ordination hall (sim), the murals are breathtaking — centuries-old paintings that depict Buddhist stories and daily life in ancient Laos. Photography isn’t allowed inside, which helps preserve the calm and sacred atmosphere. The museum also exhibits ancient palm-leaf manuscripts, relics, and religious artifacts that reflect Laos’s rich spiritual heritage. Everything is well cared for and clearly presented. The entrance fee is 30,000 Kip for foreigners and 5,000 Kip for locals, which is very reasonable. It’s located just across from Ho Phra Keo, making it easy to visit both together. A must-visit site for anyone who appreciates culture, history, and peace. 🌿🙏

If you have the time, I recommend stopping by. The outside area is nice, but what’s really worth it is the “museum” — it’s the highlight and does require an entrance fee. The multiple Buddha statues surrounding the structure are quite eye-catching. Inside the main temple, taking photos isn’t allowed, but there are signs that explain the history of the place. There are restrooms available, and you can see everything in about 40 minutes.
Martiniano J — Google review
You’re not allowed to take photos inside the temple, which I think makes sense because it helps maintain the peaceful and sacred atmosphere. The entrance fee is 30,000 kip for foreigners, while locals only need to pay 5,000 kip. It’s quite a difference, but I understand that it helps support the preservation of the temple and the maintenance of the surrounding area. The temple itself is stunning and filled with beautiful artwork that really captures your attention. The architecture is traditional yet detailed, and the murals and carvings tell many stories about Buddhism and Lao culture. The craftsmanship is truly impressive. you can see the amount of patience, skill, and dedication that went into every piece. Even though it’s not the largest or most famous temple, it still carries a deep sense of history and spirituality. If you come from a country that’s already rich in Buddhist culture, you might find it somewhat familiar and less surprising. However, it’s still fascinating to observe how Laos expresses its faith through unique local designs and artistic touches. There’s something special about the calm and respectful environment here — it encourages you to slow down, reflect, and appreciate the details. Overall, I’d say I was somewhat satisfied with my visit. It may not be the most breathtaking temple I’ve ever seen, but it definitely has its own charm and character. If you’re someone who enjoys learning about cultural heritage, traditional art, and the spiritual side of Laos, this temple is definitely worth a stop.

A quick visit of 1 hour is enough if you are not studying Buddha relics and artifacts. Many were destroyed during the early Siamese war period. Small place but rich in history. I thought the entrance fees were abit steep for the average experience.

This Buddhist temple in Vientaine was built in 1818 on the order of King Anouvong. It may be the oldest temple still standing in Vientiane. There is a cloister wall with more than 2,000 ceramic and silver Buddha images within the temple. The temple is unusual as it has an eclectic mix of Buddhist building styles and also houses a museum.

Nice place. A lot to see and there is a museum to see. But always remeber to follow the rule, a lot of sign rule here inside the museum. There is a toilet as well, a souvenir (painting) The ticket for the museum is 30.000 kip for foreigner and 5.000 kip for local.

That Dam Stupa, also known as the black stupa, is an ancient bell-shaped monument located in Vientiane, Laos. It is believed to have been protected by a seven-headed water serpent and was once covered in pure gold before it was pillaged during the Siamese-Laotian war in the 1820s. Despite its location on a less attractive roundabout, it is one of Vientiane's oldest standing structures, with a history spanning over 500 years.
Nice structure among french architect combine with contemporary urban. Good restaurant around. English speaking staff, well serve, afforable western food with mixed Lao's cuisine. Lot of trees with fruits, there are many birds gather chit chat, have fun, eating in the late noon, beautiful sunset.

The Black Stupa located in the middle of a roundabout was a sight to see. Loved it's ancient vibe. It was believed to be inhabited by a 7 headed serpent "Naga" who is a believed to protect Vientiane during crisis.

There isn't really THAT much to see and do In Vientiane; I guess that in part explains why the town (village?) hasn't thrived and the population hasn't increased to a useful level, hence the economy like the village is woefully impoverished in many aspects, although not culturally. For me this modest, unkempt, dilapidated relic is a visual metaphor for Vientiane in so far as it's just about worth seeIng but shouldn't be if it had more to offer. That said, if you pass it by your life will not be impeded.

The Lao Textile Museum, located 6 kilometers from Vientiane's center, is a unique cultural center and museum preserving the rich tradition of Lao textiles. Set in a traditional compound, it houses a diverse collection of antique textiles from various ethnic groups across Laos. Visitors can explore weaving demonstrations, view antique looms and hand-dyed fabrics representing ethnic minority patterns. The museum also features a shop offering handcrafted textile goods for purchase.
This is a must-visit spot in Vientiane! The entrance fee is only 30,000 Kip, and it offers a fascinating insight into the traditional silk-making process—from extracting the silk thread to creating the final product. I especially enjoyed seeing how different designs are made, which was truly impressive. Although I visited on Labor Day and missed the demonstrations of silk spinning and dyeing, the experience was still very enjoyable. To top it all off, they served butterfly pea tea at the end, which was a lovely touch. Highly recommended for anyone interested in Lao culture and craftsmanship!

Recommend visiting the Lao Textile Museum. Located further out from Vientiane, it is an interesting museum that covers how Laotian people fabricate clothing and extract clothes dyes. The demonstration on how they made dyes was interesting and interactive. Very quiet with few visitors, this museum is relaxing and informative. The shop offers opportunities to buy locally made items and tastes the butterfly pea tea that changes colour when you add lemon juice. Staff are very friendly and passionate about their craft.

Absolutely loved my visit to the Laos Textile Museum in Vientiane! It’s a beautiful private museum, owned by what seems to be one of the respected families in Laos. One of the staff became my personal guide, and the experience was amazing, so detailed and educational. I learned about silk production, traditional dyeing methods, fabric techniques, and the evolution and history of Lao textiles. Toward the end, I was invited to their mini workshop where I could see the dyeing process up close. I even got to taste a small orange-colored mango sweet, a little sour, and incredibly fresh. They also served me butterfly pea tea which was surprisingly delicious. The whole experience felt authentic and rich in culture. Entrance was only 30,000 kip (~$1.50), and it was absolutely worth it. One of the best cultural stops in Vientiane! I would love to come back one day!

Really lovely museum costing 30,000 kip. You learn a lot about silk worms, the weaving process and patterns, and how their indigo dye is made. I really appreciated the staff that went out of their way to show me around. They let you try a free cup of butterfly pea flower tea at the end of the tour and they have a beautiful selection of souvenirs available. One of the staff even filled up my water bottle and let me use their wifi hotspot so I could call my taxi. Worth while use of your time, you should visit!

Really nice and medium sized museum with authenticity. Japanese influence shaped the garden and it's really interesting to see traditional ways of colouring and production of textile. You can also shop and there are some very precious pieces
Sarp O — Google review
This world-class museum and experience was a pleasant discovery. It is head and shoulders above the other museums we saw in Vientiane. To begin with, the gardens and buildings themselves are quite stunning. Entry (in Nov 2024) is 30k kip. A guide showed us around and explained a welcome amount of details, and we got to try one of the threading techniques ourselves, using the wooden device. Then we learnt a bit about silk. There are examples of traditional fabric styles and clothing in the upstairs areas. The colouring section in another area is particularly interesting. It’s a very logical flow through the museum, and you end up in a shop with complimentary butterfly pea flower tea. We loved it, and learnt a fair bit. Will look at fabric and traditional dress a bit differently now.

Great place, surrounded by beautiful plants. Museum occupies old wooden building and the exhibition is both instructive and inspiring. The entry ticket costs 30.000 kip and it's money well spent. After seeing the museum you are offered a cup of blue tea and you can buy some of traditional clothing products (these are quite pricey though)

Mintra Hotel is a well-located and cozy accommodation just steps away from the Night Market in Vientiane. The spacious, clean, and quiet rooms offer all necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. The friendly front desk staff provides excellent service. Guests can enjoy the rooftop pool to relax after exploring the city. Additionally, the hotel's proximity to various restaurants and bars makes it convenient for guests to experience the local dining scene.
Good clean big rooms. Nothing to complain about the service but nothing much to write about it too. It was just satisfactory. The location is excellent. It's walking distance from all the night markets and food markets. The hard rock cafe is nearby and has great vibes. The restaurant's breakfast is average and could do with more options. The preparation of the food is decent though. The bar and pool upstairs have decent city views.

Enjoyed a 2 night stay here. For a family of 4 we had interconnecting rooms, plenty of space, modern and clean. 1 room with double bed the other with 2 single beds. Infinity pool, small but nice outdoor area with bar. Small but functional gym room. Excellent location, easy access to night market, plenty of food options. Friendly and helpful staff who also booked us the hotel van to the airport on our departure. Only disappointment was the buffet breakfast, it wasn't up to the standard of other hotels we have stayed in. Dull options with some offerings not being replenished. Overall I would certainly recommend staying here, but would seek breakfast elsewhere.

Located in Laos, the COPE Visitor Centre is a solemn museum that offers displays and films about the history of bombings and related disabilities. The center is situated just a short motorbike ride away from Talat Sao Morning Market. It provides visitors with an opportunity to learn about Laos's tragic history and its relationship with unexploded bombs through informative displays and exhibits. The museum sheds light on the aftermath of the secret war during the Vietnam War, which dropped millions of bombs in Laos.
A Profound and Unforgettable Experience in Vientiane This museum is an essential stop for anyone visiting Vientiane. The exhibits provide a powerful and deeply moving account of the impact the war had and continues to have on the people of Laos. We were stunned to learn that the country endured the equivalent of a plane full of bombs being dropped every eight minutes, around the clock, for nine consecutive years. Be sure to watch the documentary. The legacy of this devastation persists today, as many unexploded “bombies” still remain buried across the countryside. Entry is donation-based, and we were glad to support further by purchasing handmade goods crafted by survivors. A truly excellent and eye-opening visit.

A must visit if you’re coming to Vientiane. A deep insight into the countries history and a good cause to help the victims of this tragedy. No entrance fee but there is opportunity for donations
Olly S — Google review
An absolute must visit if you are in Vientiane. It is free but a donation is appreciated. They also have a gift shop with interesting and educational products. I bought a book all about a boy with an artificial limb. The museum gives you lots of information about the history of the bombings throughout Laos and how it effected the population. Every exhibit was fascinating. The most harrowing was of a video of woman, a mother, describing the events that led to her son's death. He was affected by a pair of cluster bombs that other children were playing with. His life also could have been saved had the hospitals in the area had blood or oxygen. It was heartbreaking. I think the scale of the bombings across Laos is not widely known - and COPE help to shed light on this and how it still affects local people everyday.
Coralie P — Google review
In the Vietnam war, the US dropped more bombs on Laos than were dropped by both sides combined in WW2 - even though the US weren't at war with Laos - making them the most bombed country per capita in history. The legacy of this continues to this day with millions of unexploded ordnance still littering the Laotian countryside, posing a risk to children playing and farmers working.  COPE not only works to clear those remaining bombs but also helps with the rehabilitation of those seriously wounded by them. As you can guess, this isn't the most cheery place but is a reminder that the effects of war long outlast the wars themselves. With USAID recently withdrawing the crucial funding that helped charities like COPE mitigate America’s aftermath the centre relies on visitor contributions more than ever. Visit the centre to learn more about America’s “secret war” and help save a life with a donation.
Andrew C — Google review
A harrowing experience in an unassuming place, this is an important place which details Laos as the unfortunate victims of a war they weren't a part of. The front looks like a small school compound, but walking in you see small buildings housing the exhibition of the Laos bombings. Small, but significant enough to sicken your stomach. There is a small exhibit, also a small movie room. Immerse yourself in this place. I think 40 minutes is more than good enough. Entrance is free, I suggest spending some time if you're in Vientianne, to know more about the history of the place.

I learned a lot about the bombing situation in Laos and the people who suffered because of it. It was truly eye-opening to see how much pain and struggle they went through, and how it still affects many lives today. Chao Anouvong Park, named after the last king of Laos, offers a picturesque riverside promenade, picnic spots, and a nightly market with souvenir vendors. The park used to have ramshackle riverside bars and restaurants offering sunset views and fresh grilled fish. However, the government transformed the area by building a flood wall for city protection and relocating eateries to create a more communal space.

Wat Si Muang is a vibrant and historically significant Buddhist temple in Vientiane, known for its association with good luck and fortune. Legend has it that the temple was named after a young woman who sacrificed herself to appease angry spirits during its construction in 1563. Visitors flock to this colorful temple to receive blessings from monks and pray for good fortune.
Wat Si Muang is considered to be one of Vientiane's most popular and revered places of worship. As such the temple is always busy with lay people and tourists. The original temple dates to 1563, but was destroyed in 1828. The present wat was built in 1915. The main Ordination Hall consists of two rooms. In the front chamber two monks offer blessings. The second chamber contains an elaborate altar where lay people come to give offerings. A really interesting place to visit.

A very beautiful temple in Vientiane, Laos. The statues and fresco's are wonderful works of art. There are many temples in Vientiane and for a Buddhist it's good to see the most of them kept in a good condition. If you're a tourist you may feel like all the temples are the same but look a little deeper and there are details that will differentiate them from one another. Or there could also be other factors like the particular power of a certain temple.

Phu D — Google review
Tucked away on a quiet street in Vientiane, Wat Si Muang wasn't what I expected from a temple. Sure, the golden glint in the afternoon sun was beautiful, but it had a calmness that surprised me. Most temples I've visited are bustling with activity, but here, there was a sense of peace that settled over me as soon as I stepped through the gate. There were a few things I found particularly interesting. The stalls at the entrance selling offerings were a vibrant splash of color, and I spent a good few minutes chatting with a friendly vendor about the different types of flowers and incense. Inside, the division into two rooms was unique. The front room had a serene atmosphere, perfect for quiet reflection. In the back, the main altar was adorned with statues and seemed like a more formal space for prayer. Overall, Wat Si Muang was a little gem I stumbled upon in Vientiane. It wasn't the grandest temple I've seen, but it left a lasting impression with its tranquility and the kindness I encountered there.

a famous temple with so many sculptures squeezed in a surprisingly high density. almost like an exhibition or musium, quite fun to take a walk and observe the shape and color usage of each of them. if you expect an authentic buddism temple with calm ambience, you may feel it's too chaotic and scattered. but the naturally randomnessly placed sculptures and temples seemed to represent the local people's natural and relaxing religious life. a must visit for tourists.

Talat Sao Morning Market in Vientiane is a bustling hub for traditional Lao handicrafts, fresh produce, and street food. It's a popular spot for both locals and tourists, offering a unique blend of traditional goods and modern retail experiences. The market is housed in a multi-story mall with various shops and services catering to visitors. From textiles to jewelry, visitors can find an array of items to browse through.
This is the old style of mall, very crowded yet with a nice atmosphere. Plenty of boutiques are distributed throughout 4 levels: on -1 level, and on the ground floor, you can find all sorts of things, on +1 level is mainly jewellery and gold while level +2 is occupied by textiles. The vast majority of shops accept credit cards, but they charge an additional fee for it. ATM of all major banks can be found though, at the main entrance and there are also a couple of them inside. Next to the building, there are stalls of smaller sellers, mainly with various herbs and Chinese medicaments. Interesting thing: You can see that there are offerings at some statues of Buddha or other spiritual beings even though these are shop items. 🙄

Buddhist temple

Wat That Khao is a special temple in Vientiane, featuring an immense Reclining Buddha that's truly impressive. The classic Lao-style architecture of the temple includes standing Buddha statues at the entrance and intricate golden stencil work on the roofs. Inside, vibrant murals depicting scenes from Buddha's life add color and narrative to the sacred space. While it may offer a more rustic experience with chickens and dogs around, the sight of the reclining Buddha makes it worth a visit.
A peace and quiet temple, smaller and older than those famous one. But I enjoy being there, more natural.
Kye T — Google review
Travelling along Quia Fa Ngum into the centre of the city, Wat That Khao is the first Buddhist temple you will pass. What strikes you first is the golden painted entrance gate with a view towards the statue of the Buddha in a meditative sitting posture, with legs crossed and his hands resting on his lap. This posture symbolises the Buddha's enlightenment.... What is interesting here is that the two protective Nagas have their feet resting on the steps leading up to the statue. Behind the Ordination Hall, which is usually closed to lay people is a large statue of the Reclining Buddha. This is a quiet and tranquil place and little visited by tourists. The resident dogs are friendly and there are chickens running around the grassy area.
Nigel S — Google review
The gold reclining Buddha was a sight to see. There's no entrance fee in this area. It is near That Luang Museum so make sure to stop by once in the area if you still have time.
Aibi Y — Google review
A lovely chill spot to appreciate nature and around Buddhist religion. Don’t expect something spectacular but if you decide to visit, simply enjoy the real vibes of this place that has not been “taken over” by tourism. Many people mention the dogs and roosters presence; yes they are there, it seems that the monks breed chickens and feed the dogs but none of the animals are aggressive or annoying (if anything, we found the doggos rather shy 🥹).
Kat K — Google review
Not worth a special trip at the moment. I had a nice walk out here to try a smaller wat not busy with people. It’s looking tired and uncared for - but that might change now the rainy season is almost gone.
Jim W — Google review
Quite disappointing. When I arrived, the place looked rather rundown. On top of that, there were around ten stray dogs roaming around, which made me leave, given the high rabies risk in this region. Such a pity, as the photos made it seem like a spot worth visiting. Personally, I’d say it’s not really worth the trip.
Alessandro S — Google review
Well, many people talk about the dogs. I have to say if you have any ideal to get along with pets, it's not a good place for you. But if you just bend over and say hello to these dogs. Then they will welcome you to this temple. And about this temple, it's a good example of nature status of religion site in Indochinese. And it's a short time view, you don't need to plan too much time to this.
Pauke H — Google review
Really quiet area that is off the beaten path. I like this temple a lot more than many of the others just because it is not very touristy. Very pretty with plenty of street cats to pet as well.

Le Patitoh Café & Craft Beer is a popular spot in Laos, especially on weekends. The place offers a variety of local craft beers with interesting names and high alcohol content. Every Friday, they have a beer buffet from 4-10pm at an affordable price. The atmosphere is perfect for grabbing a beer and enjoying delicious food like chicken salad. They also serve brunch next to a large sparkling pool and offer reasonable prices for their menu of Lao dishes.
A little homebrew place right in the local area. Only a couple of beers available but the Pilsner was very good. Added a few chicken wings, what’s not to love. Wasn’t the busiest earlyish on a weekday but the family running it were very smiley and nice. I liked it.
Richard C — Google review
I have been to this place multiple times and I must say, it never disappoints! The atmosphere is perfect for grabbing a beer and their chicken salad is to die for. The staff is always friendly and the service is top-notch. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a great spot to relax and enjoy some delicious food.
Avinash J — Google review
This place should be a "MUST VISIT" venue in Vientiane.... Amazing craft beers and food. Value for money and awesome atmosphere. Kid friendly and the pool is clean. Order any of their craft beers.
BoonChin T — Google review
Brunch with craft beer, next to a large sparkling pool - bliss. Good iced coffee ( choice of ice or blended) and a great menu of Lao dishes served at the poolside. Indoor restaurant if you prefer the aircon. Reasonable prices.

Good restaurants not far from Town, come to rest and enjoy with your friends after work it good. the price here are reasonable. and good service staff. they will take care you well

When you're amazed in Laos, you say, "Patitoh!" It's a cafe and bar with a swimming pool! It's crowded during weekends. Serves local craft beer with intriguing names like Hawaiian, Hub Bomb, and Deception. It's high alcohol content will give a decent beer drinker a super kick. Every Friday, 4-10pm, is Beer buffet day. And it's only 80,000 Kip! (9 USD) You can toast one another until everyone is under the table. And one heck of a story to share back home. Recommendation: Must visit to enjoy a unique taste of local Lao craft beer 🍺
Song E — Google review
If you are finding good craft beer then just come here Swimming pool very clean and big enough for long swim Food tasty even bit expensive but it’s worth your money At weekend there will be Japanese food with Chef from Thailand
Tounee B — Google review
I mean everything was perfect the beer the food but the service my god not sure if we are the only ones or something but everytime we wanted to ask for example: another beer or an order they would also just shout "what do you want again, what now, sighing" hopefully wont be stepping foot at this place again

Fitness equipment wholesaler
Sengdara Fitness PRO offers a comprehensive fitness experience with its well-maintained pool area featuring a swimming pool, kiddies pool, and Jacuzzi. You can take a break at the poolside cafe after your swim. The fitness center also provides a complete gym facility and massage spa. Proper gym attire is required to use the fitness equipment. It's an ideal place to maintain your fitness routine and inspire others to do the same.
I recently joined Sengdara Fitness, and I couldn't be happier with my experience! The facility is truly a gem in Vientiane, boasting a wide range of premium amenities that cater to fitness enthusiasts of all levels. One of the standout features is the state-of-the-art Precor gym equipment from the USA. It's clear that they prioritize quality, making workouts not only effective but enjoyable. Additionally, the largest swimming pool in the area is perfect for both serious swimmers and those just looking to relax. Cleanliness is a top priority at Sengdara, and it shows! The sauna is pristine and provides a great place to unwind after a workout. The variety of exercise classes offered ensures that there's something for everyone, and the schedule is well-organized and easy to navigate. While I noticed that prices have increased recently, I appreciate the flexibility they offer. Sengdara Fitness ensures that there's a membership option for everyone, making it accessible for all who are serious about their fitness journey. To top it all off, the food and beverage options available are excellent. It’s great to have nutritious meals and drinks on hand that support my fitness goals. Overall, Sengdara Fitness is more than just a gym—it's a complete wellness experience. If you're in Vientiane and looking for the best fitness center, I highly recommend checking it out! I love Sengdara Fitness
Phoungeunh A — Google review
Sengdara Fitness is the first premium fitness center in Laos, known for its clean environment, top-notch facilities, and professional services. It’s a must-try for anyone looking for a high-quality fitness experience in the region
Vithakone ( — Google review
For overall facilities, amenities and services, Sengdara is the best gym in Vientiane. The equipment variety is complete and well maintained. They even have classes for crossfit, etc. The gym, pool, and sauna included in the membership is great if you’re serious about fitness since they also offer InBody scans, but if you’re just looking for weightlifting or cardio there are cheaper gyms in Vientiane. The daily pass is pricey at ₭489,000. The best option is to opt for the yearly membership which knocks the price down so you’re paying the equivalent of ₭740,000/month.
Harry C — Google review
I’ve visited both Sendara Fitness branches and would like to share my review. In terms of equipment, the Pro branch has more machines and greater variety, which is great for serious workouts. However, the restroom area is poorly ventilated and often smells unpleasant, which can really affect the experience. On the other hand, the KM6 branch is much more pleasant, clean, and well-maintained. The pool area is also designed more beautifully. Most importantly, the staff at KM6 are friendly and professional, and their customer service stands out. Unfortunately, my experience with one staff member at the Pro branch was extremely disappointing. The woman with glasses at the reception desk had a terrible attitude — she seemed uninterested in working and treated customers in a very rude and unprofessional way. Her behavior alone made me not want to come back to the Pro branch. It was unacceptable.
HOI H — Google review
I had a very unpleasant experience at this place. One of the staff members was caught sneaking into the women’s changing room, which was disturbing. When I reported it, the staff just laughed it off and showed no intention of taking responsibility. On top of that, this place is overpriced and not worth it. I would not recommend it.
요아 — Google review
Stay fit and healthy mindset. It's really wise to take care of your body not because of personal reason but also on how you can inspire others to do so. Sengdara Fitness is a perfect place to go on your fitness schedule. Upgraded and beautifully managed.

Public swimming pool
Vientiane Swimming Pool is a popular choice for both exercise and relaxation. The 25-meter pool with 6 lanes provides a great opportunity for lap swimming, while there is also a small children's pool available. Located near downtown Vientiane, it's convenient for those working in the area. The outdoor saltwater pool is nestled in a tropical garden, offering a refreshing and natural swimming experience.
Good swimming pool. The cost is 20,000 kip. Also you can find children's pool and free sunbeds, dressing room and a shower. You can buy swimming trunks here. Nearby there is a gym with a variety of exercise equipment.
Dmitrii G — Google review
Good sized pool with slightly rickety sunbed loungers, but for the £1.40 entrance you can't grumble. There's a little shop attached for drinks and ice creams and a fabulous gym too if you are fitness inclined.
Craig H — Google review
Loved this place. For 15,000 kip you can swim as long as you want. There are lockers and showers. Great place to relax and get out of the aggressive Vientiane heat for a few hours.
Virginia E — Google review
Good place for kids. Looks clean. Friendly staff. 10,000 for kids and 15,000 kip for adults. The gym is separate. There are 4 pools. The main one is deep and can do laps. There are 3 other kiddie pools that are suited for all ages. It's not your fancy upscale pool but more of a community for everyone with basic amenities but you will enjoy yourself because it's a pool and Vientiane ideally hot. Take a dip and enjoy the moment!
Kenneth T — Google review
Great swimming pool for people of all ages. 15k Kip to go swimming for however long you want. The pool is clean, not overly busy and perfect for cooling off in. It's a little dated. But there are sun loungers with umbrellas available, a small restaurant which sells bottled water and a small shop as well. There is a modern gym on site as well available for a slightly higher cost. Swimming goggles can be bought there. Deep end is roughly 3 metres deep.
Aaron M — Google review
Nice environment very downtown. Pool and gym despite separated are one next to another. Opens at 6am up to 8pm every day. Cost for pool 15.000 hence 2 USD or 1.50 euro. Locker provided as well as showers with changing room
INFLUENTIAL W — Google review
One of our family favorites downtown. Not the nicest or newest pool in town but for Central Vientiane its a great way to spend a few hours cooling off. Goggles highly recommended. Weekdays you will typically have the whole pool to yourself.
Hans K — Google review
It's cheap and a good pool downtown. Cool water, could be cleaner perhaps but great for some serious lap swimming. Friendly staff. It actually looked like the gym was accessible too but I'm not sure if that's in the price.
