Scenic Walking Areas
Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, a Scottish gem, offers a mix of stunning natural landscapes and rich history. At its heart lies Loch Lomond, the UK's largest freshwater body, providing various water activities and scenic islands to explore. The park boasts diverse terrains from lush southern landscapes to rugged northern glens.
Loch Lomond is another heavenly beauties of Scotland. It has Towering Mountains, Glittering Lochs, Dense Woodlands and Several Islands. Here, you can see the mountains are kissing the water and the sky at the same time. You will see unreal beauty, if you visit on a bright sunny day. Very close to Balloch railway station. The River Cruise is a must, where you will enjoy the water, stunning mountain views and several islands in the journey. Perfect weekend trip for your family. The kids will enjoy the fullest. We took the Silver Dolphin Cruise which was amazing. A must visit place, if you are in Edinburgh or Glasgow.

A stunning place to visit. Just a few minutes walk from the train station, and you are in breath-taking scenery. There are lots of different walking trails. Dotted around the loch, there are children's play areas. There is also a castle and walled garden that you can explore. The nearest toilets are at the castle. There were picnic tables. There are hard surface paths around the loch. These are wheelchair accessible. Dog walking off lead is allowed.
Shelley C — Google review
This is amazingly beautiful place to do hiking, chilling by the water or doing water activities, it has it all covered. Little place called Luss, was a brilliant spot for us. Has got boat tours, little cafe and shop, parking and petrol station, town streets and houses are postcard perfect, the beach with white sand. Amazing experience. Weather in the morning didn't promise a nice day, but later sunshine appeared and it was lovely.
Irina M — Google review
Breathtaking! A cross between North Carolina and Colorado. We came through in March and I can only imagine what the scenery is like here in the summer and fall. We were able to see a tremendous variety of flora and fauna, from vast swatches of some of the largest daffodils I have ever seen, to wild Scottish Red Deer, which look similar to a North American Elk. The weather, while cold and damp, was almost perfect for the time of year we visited. This is a bucket list item, for sure!
Joe M — Google review
Truly a beautiful lake, I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I can really tell the Scottish people take real good care of the lake too. Well worth a visit.

We were staying in Stirling and went on a day trip to see this area. It was amazing to see the beautiful highland landscapes and lowland rolling hills & drive through the villages.
Catherine H — Google review
Camping is allowed in this area as its outwith the Loch Lomond and Trossachs no camping zone. Parking at the Balquhidder church this route takes about an hour and a half walking. There isn't many good pitches at Lochan Eireannaich but I managed to find a good one.
Colin M — Google review
Although far for most Englanders, this is a place of extraordinary beauty. Whether you like watersports, or hiking. Quick tips: 1. Always carry midge spray. Avoid DEET though. Midges usually are the biggest annoyance in and around the area. 2. If you booked a water taxi, make sure you call them ahead of schedule if the jeti they will pick you up from is busy.

Nature & Parks
Balloch Castle Country Park, situated on the southern shore of Loch Lomond, features a 19th-century castle surrounded by ornamental gardens and nature trails. The Tudor Gothic style castle was commissioned in 1809 and includes decorative defensive features like turrets and lancet windows. The park offers serene lochside walks with tree-lined paths and a children's play area.
Such a big and beautiful park in Balloch! There’s a lovely castle to explore, clean toilets, and even a fun little fairy trail to keep things magical. Loads of space for dogs, running, and jogging perfect for a day out. The variety of trees and plants makes it feel really peaceful and green. Great spot for all ages!
Marta K — Google review
Another great spot for Family. Toilets a bit far though and up the hill. Lovely play parks and lots of open green space to play all sorts of sports games or just to chill on a blanket. Stunning views. Very clear water. The only downside for us it was quite a lot of broken glass on the beach and my girls love walking bare feet. Staff tries their best to keep it clean but it is up to us actually to leave no print behind.
Iwona — Google review
This charming and tranquil location is not very well-known among tourists, making it a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of more crowded attractions. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the serene lake, which adds to the area’s natural beauty. Families will find a delightful playground for children, providing a safe and fun space for them to explore and play. Convenient facilities include clean restrooms located adjacent to the historic castle, ensuring comfort for all visitors. Best of all, parking is free, making it easy to spend a leisurely day soaking in the picturesque surroundings.
Ashish M — Google review
First time in this park despite my many visits over the years to Balloch. Wanted to go for picturesque dog walk & was not disappointed. Perfect time of year at autumn . Will be back more often 👌🏻
Liz W — Google review
Great place for a walk and picnic. Stunning views of loch lomond. Grounds are spotlessand well maintained. The castle is closed to the public but if you have an interest in history or just like to visit beautiful buildings then its worth a visit if in the area. Public toilets are in the castle. If you walk down the hill towards the pier there is a kiosk if you want to grab an ice cream.
Sharlene R — Google review
A lovely castle that is sadly rotting away. You are able to walk around the outside, and there are toilets available. The toilets were in good condition. It should be noted they close at 2.30 pm during the winter. There is a hard surface path to the castle, but it is up a hill, so it would depend on the wheelchair type and fitness of the user.
Shelley C — Google review
I find this park to be a wonderful spot with breathtaking views of Loch Lomond, scenic walking paths, and wide open areas perfect for picnicking or unwinding. Very clean and green area. Parking is big and free, there is a huge playground for the kids, cafe and ice cream shop
Cdakingtamudo — Google review
We were staying in Stirling and went on a day trip to see this area. We parked in the castle parking area for free anc walked around the ruins of the 13th century castle. It was barricaded. We walked the path leading to Loch Lomond and enjoyed the views. There was a playground near the lake and our kids & grandkids enjoyed the play set.

Shopping mall
Neighborhoods
Loch Lomond Shores, located just a short drive from downtown Glasgow, seamlessly blends into the picturesque surroundings near Balloch. This popular destination offers a variety of activities for visitors to enjoy. The shopping mall features well-known brands and locally crafted goods, while dining options cater to diverse tastes. Additionally, the site hosts events throughout the year and is home to attractions such as the Sealife Centre and crazy golf. Families can also take boat trips or relax in the kids' play area.
A stunning waterside destination, ideal for a day out with family or friends. The breathtaking views of the loch and surrounding hills make it a paradise for photography enthusiasts, while the variety of activities ensures there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The shopping area features charming boutiques and gift shops, and the cafes and restaurants serve delicious food with picturesque views. The SEA LIFE Aquarium is a hit with kids, though it’s a bit small for the price. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the walking trails, cycling paths, boat tours, and the adventure play areas for children. Seasonal markets and events add a lively touch, though it can get crowded during busy times. Parking is convenient but fills up fast, especially on weekends. A bonus is the availability of EV charging stations. Overall, it’s a fantastic, family-friendly destination offering a little bit of everything. Highly recommended for its serene views and relaxing atmosphere

Loch Lomond Shores offers a mix of shopping, dining, and activities by the loch, including the Sea Life Aquarium and Bird of Prey Centre, appealing to families. While intended as a vibrant hub with events and watersports, recent reviews suggest it currently lacks atmosphere and some facilities are not well-maintained. It's a convenient stop with potential, but perhaps not consistently delivering a top-tier experience.
Ali H — Google review
Beautiful Scenery and Relaxing Atmosphere Visited Loch Lomond Shores recently and really enjoyed the natural beauty of the place. The views of the loch are stunning, especially on a clear day — perfect for a peaceful walk along the water. There’s a good mix of shops, cafés, and small attractions, which makes it a nice spot for families or a quiet day out. Parking was convenient, though a bit busy during peak hours. Some areas could do with a bit more maintenance, but overall the place felt welcoming and safe. A lovely spot to unwind and take in some classic Scottish scenery — just don't expect a full outdoor adventure unless you head further into the national park.
Adnan Q — Google review
There's a shopping mall at the shore with shops and restaurants. There's a mini golf and an aquarium. There's also kayaking and boat cruises. Lovely view from the shore
Anna S — Google review
Beautiful place! Long walks either side, during the spring/summer lots of water activites. During the end of summer is the food festival and near Christmas, is the Markets! Lots of parking, both coach and cars. Worth visiting to see the Ben in the distance.

I liked it here. Free parking. Some nice shops, large cafe and boat trips. I had a short walk around to the marina and back.

Haven't been here for many years and nice to see it is still up and running. Nice array of shops with the smaller gift and souvenirs type store to designer and labels. 2 cafes in centre and heaps of parking outside. The toilets were immaculate, child, nursing and disability friendly. Great location on the Loch with Sea Life Centre, Crazy Golf, Tours ticket office and Markets on 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month. The Loch Lomond Bird of Prey centre is only 100 mtrs away also.

Maid of The Loch is a 1953 paddle steamer located at Loch Lomond Shores. Although currently out of service, dedicated volunteers are working hard to preserve and restore it for future sailing on Loch Lomond. Visitors can take hard-hat tours to explore the boat and nearby winch house. The interior boasts an art deco design, and there's a cafe offering locally sourced produce.
Great tour would highly recommend! Was interested going around the paddle steamer. Hopefully will be sea worthy soon. Tour guide was David, he was really good and very knowledgeable about the ship. Would highly recommend!
Benjamin M — Google review
Had a fantastic Hard Hat Tour. It was a really fascinating 1hr+, where we got taken around the entire ship and winding room. We got told all about what they are doing, what their plans are and what they have done so far. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions about the Maid and Paddle Steamers in general. It was great value at £15 and the tour group was small, with just three of us. I look forward to seeing the Maid's progress and I will visit again.
Livi M — Google review
We had a lovely guided tour of the Maid Of The Lock! The tickets cost £15 each, and the tour started at 14 and lasted more than an hour. Tours are only at weekends, because during the week the volunteers are working on the ship to complete her restoration. Graham, our tour guide, was very passionate about the history of the Maid Of The Loch and entertained us with lots of interesting anecdotes and information about her. It was really instructive and fun, especially because we have never visited a ship while being restored before. We hope that the Maid Of The Loch will be back in the water again!
E. ( — Google review
We went after hours and had cafe across from the ship. Hopefully there will be a day when it can be restored to its former splendors and cruise across Loch Lomond.
Celeste C — Google review
I attended the Hard Hat tour and would thoroughly recommend. Really informative and interesting tour run by wonderful volunteers.

Maid of the Loch is the last paddle steamer built in the United Kingdom. She operated on Loch Lomond for 29 years and as of 2022 is being restored near Balloch pier. It became in service in 1953. Great view, and there was a cafe with an outdoor setting area on a fabulous vew. Highly recommended
Faisal M — Google review
It wasn't the best day for a visit but it was our only day so no choice. There's a £3 fee to get on board which goes to support the restoration. It was lovely, all staff very friendly and knowledgeable, it can only get better as more gets done to this beautiful steam powered boat 🚢 There is a lovely little cafe on board and the views are fab Definitely worth a visit and worth contributing to save this gem
Debra R — Google review
Beautiful historical ship , fun for adults and kids too 🤩.This is the last paddle steamer lunched on the 5th march 1953 and currently going through restoration with the help of donations from visitors, hope it will sail in the near future again ☺️ I did use Google earth to find more about its interesting history. Its free to get on board and explore, however voluntary donations helps upkeep and fund the restoration, staff volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable . There is a cafe there where you can get tea , coffee and cake and enjoy the lovely stunning view and its not expensive .. Its a very unique and beautiful places for events like Weddings and Wedding Receptions, Corporate Events, Kids Birthday Parties, and so much more! Over all if your around Balloch or loch Lomonds its a lovely place to stop by and check it out :)

Located in the charming town of Killin at the north end of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, Falls of Dochart offers a picturesque sight with its tumbling waters that can be admired from a stone bridge or by venturing onto the rocks. The falls are particularly stunning after rainfall.
The Falls of Dochart are an absolutely stunning place of immense natural beauty, located in the charming village of Killin, at the western end of Loch Tay in Scotland. The experience of visiting this spot is truly captivating, with the powerful cascade of the River Dochart creating a thunderous spectacle that highlights the raw force of nature. Venturing out onto the ancient rocks that form the riverbed and the falls is a breathtaking experience. It gives you a profound sense of the timelessness and beauty of nature. The rocks are a photographer's dream, providing countless opportunities for capturing the perfect shot of the rushing rapids and the swirling water. The scene is particularly dramatic after heavy rainfall when the river swells and the sound of the water is at its most powerful. It's a place that appeals to all ages. My own family and friends loved and enjoyed every moment. My 5-year-old son, full of enthusiastic wonder, was running and climbing all over the rocks, shouting "this place is so cool!" and "wow, amazing!" It was a joy to witness his excitement and sense of adventure. The village of Killin, where the falls are located, has a handful of restaurants and delightful cake cafes, providing just the right amount of amenities without feeling overly commercialized. The Falls of Dochart Smokehouse, in particular, is a great find, offering a selection of very tasty local products, including delicious cheese and salmon. The Falls of Dochart are a must-see for anyone in the area, a truly invigorating experience that connects you with the power and beauty of the Scottish landscape.
Ricky G — Google review
Beautiful waterfall! The river was racing and it was raining when we were there, not allowing us to down to the rocks but we were still able to get great pictures and enjoy the town for a quick minute.
Christi C — Google review
The Falls of Dochart are absolutely breathtaking and well worth a visit. Right in the heart of Killin, the falls are a powerful and beautiful sight, especially after rainfall when the water is rushing over the rocks with real force. It is one of those places that instantly makes you pause and take it all in. There are plenty of spots to stop and admire the view, whether from the bridge or the riverbank. The sound of the water, the dramatic scenery and the surrounding mountains all come together to create a really peaceful and atmospheric setting. There is a lovely charm to the village too, with small cafes and local shops nearby that make it easy to spend a bit more time exploring. It is a must see if you are travelling through the area or staying nearby. A stunning natural landmark that leaves a lasting impression.
BellHH S — Google review
It a nice but strong waterfall. The water flow is strong during rainy days. It’s on the side of the road when you approach the town of Killin. It is just before the single carriageway bridge. There is no designated parking. You can park on the side of the road where there are no double yellow lines. There is a space for 2-3 cars parking just before the bridge.
Nebu M — Google review
Lovely wee village. Proper tourist spot. Nice park for young kids. Typical village shops. Few places of historical interest. Public toilets available near the watermill. Plenty parking spaces. Beautiful river.
Brian M — Google review
This is my favourite waterfall in Scotland it’s magnificent if you sit there and watch it with the water and everything you will be sitting for hours without getting tired of the views and the mood and the vibe I highly recommend it it’s amazing

Aquarium
Nature & Parks
Located in the Drumkinnon Tower on the shores of Loch Lomond, SEA LIFE Loch Lomond Aquarium is a must-visit attraction. It features over 1500 sea creatures in seven distinct zones, including sharks, giant turtles, and marine mammals. The aquarium also offers touch tanks where visitors can interact with anemones, sea crabs, and starfish. Additionally, the surrounding area boasts tourist shops and stunning views of the mountainous country to the north.
Had a wee father son day out here with the laddie. It was a good day, and the Sea Centre kept him amused for a good wee while. Enjoy the wee quiz they gave us, made learning fun, and was a good way to get my son reading the information points rather than just looking at the marine life on display. We went up to the viewpoint on level 4, and this is accessible as are all floors by lift. The viewpoint would be breathtaking on a beautiful day. Unfortunately, there was a lot of overcast when we were there. Cafe also has nice views, but the menu, although relatively cheap, is limited food wise. Does, however, have the benefit of Costa in it, so coffee was good. All in all, good wee day out admission is expensive in my opinion at £40 for 1 adult 1 kid but nicely laid out and gift shop isn't expensive.
Craig J — Google review
Lovely little aquarium in a stunning location! Visited with family and really enjoyed it. The ocean tunnel with sharks and rays was a definite highlight, and we loved seeing the otters and the rescued sea turtle. The touch pool was great for kids, and the staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. It’s not a huge place—you can see everything in about an hour—but it’s well laid out and perfect for younger kids. The views from the café and rooftop are amazing too. Book online for a better price and it’s totally worth it!
Anoob L — Google review
Well worth a visit but not as big as you think. We thought we would be in here exploring for hours but it’s all indoors and a relatively small aquarium. It’s over 4 floors but only the ground floor is the aquarium and shop. Floor 1 is a kids cinema, floor 2 is a cafe and floor 3 is a viewing platform over the loch. The aquarium has several areas of small tanks that show you a range of fish and crustaceans from around the world. The tanks are beautifully clean and you really get to see them in all their magnificence. There is one larger tank where you can see larger sea creatures such as manta rays and see the story of a turtle that was rescued. It’s a really nice place to visit but deceptively small when compared to the building. All staff were really nice and they advised us to book online when at the till which we did as it’s cheaper than paying at the door which we never understand. Overall a great location but we explored it all in under an hour.

This aquarium is genuinely lovely, and a great break if you’ve got some classic Scottish weather on your day out. I am a wheelchair user and found the aquarium to be pretty accessible, although you can checkout my review on RollMobility for more info. Its got some rough terrain inside, the way some aquariums like to be cute and create textures like bridges and pebbles in the floor. That being said, none of it was very intense or dramatic and I was able to manage alright. They have spacious elevators throughout. You may encounter a wait for the disabled restroom given the number of families. Lots of stuff is easily viewable and *touchable * from a seated position so like I really genuinely recommend it.

Great wee day out with my girl who's just turned 7. She loves learning and got to touch a starfish in the rock pool and loved seeing all the sea creatures. Was just gutted otters weren't out but they are new and shy. Definitely a good wee afternoon to be had...but it isn't the cheapest. By time U buy tickets and the photos (if U like) and get some food it's easily 70 quid.

Sealife Centre Loch Lomond is a great place, we visited last weekend as needed something inside due to the awaful weather. A lovely range of fish and other sea life in very well presented tanks. At £21 per adult, it is unfortunately rather on the expensive side. It would be good if they could broaden the use of the cinema, perhaps alternating between a kids thing and an adult thing, I for one would have liked a film about Loch Lomond and it's loch-life. Cafe staff were helpful with offering a gluten free alternative (tacos) for with the soup, though would be nice to have gluten free bread or rolls available.
Livi M — Google review
This is more of a kiddies experience. But it was not dull either. The Loch sea life were beautiful to behold and my favourites were the clown fishes and tiny sea horses. A good and educative experience but a bit anticlimactic.
Ebele N — Google review
Lovely place, but extreamly small. Prices were way to high for 30 minute of waking around. There is a cinema with octonouts playing, but I would recommend it for younger kids up to 7 years old. Cafe and viewing balcony were great, good localisation.

Dumbarton Castle, located just 7 miles from Cameron Lodges on the River Clyde, is one of Scotland's oldest castles with a history dating back 1,500 years. The castle sits atop a 240-ft basalt crag and features an 18th-century Georgian governor's house and artillery fortifications offering stunning views of Ben Lomond. It has been a stronghold since the Iron Age and was garrisoned until after World War II.
Loved my visit to Dumbarton Castle. Lots of history to take in which is well presented on the various information boards. Wear sturdy footwear especially if the ground is wet as I'd imagine the grounds would be quite slippy. However if you manage to go where the sun is out with clear skies, you will be met with stunning views and scenery. The Castle is well maintained and the footpaths are easily negotiated however be prepared to climb as there are well over 550 steps around the whole castle. There is a small shop which sells drinks and confectionary. I would take a packed lunch as there are benches in the castle to sit at and also in the small park at the base of the rock. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit and I'm so glad that places like this have been preserved for us to view.
Bhoy 6 — Google review
Great place to keep fit! Good views from the top of the rock and plenty of places to rest. While the steps are not long or particularly steep the fact they're needed to get around means this place is not accessible for people with mobility issues.
Alex B — Google review
Castle is in very scenic location on a large volcanic plug. No dogs allowed into castle itself but nice public dog walking area in the small park at Clyde riverside. This is a good area for external views of the castle and passing boats on the river
John M — Google review
Great visit here, limited parking, very steep climb around castle, not suitable if you have any mobility issues over 500 steps to climb to the top. We loved it and both Grandsons liked it too views are amazing even on a cloudy day. Toilets on site, no cafe,
SA S — Google review
We visited Dumbarton castle on a Friday, it was quite quiet. We managed to get parked right in front of the castle but there aren’t too many spaces. This is an impressive looking rock with some of the castle built into it and on top. WARNING- there are hundreds, if not thousands of stairs with no wheelchair access. It is worth the climb though to see the views from the top looking over to Dumbarton itself and all round. One of the buildings was closed to subsidence, the old prison. Worth a visit though!
Pamela C — Google review
We enjoyed our visit, interesting castle to visit. All paths were dead ends so you cant get lost. Lots and lots of steep steps so those who struggle with mobility would find it difficult. The views were lovely, nice clean toilets and a little gift shop. Limited parking however there are lots of streets within walking distance if it's full. We did book in advance however there was no need as it's not as busy as other sites.
Martina M — Google review
I went here with a group of friends a few weeks ago, and my, was it breathtaking! Everything was perfect, from the staff (a younger lady who was quite knowledgeable), to the stunning scenery. It was pretty quiet. We were mostly by ourselves, which I happened to love, so we could take our time, not butt into others, and could get however many photos we wanted in different areas without getting photobombed, or vice versa. I would advise you to bring a water, battery pack, and a selfie stick (if you're in a group to get the best group selfies). There's a LOT of steps to climb, so make sure you can handle it. Some are easy, but some are a bit steep. Regardless, every section we went was more than well worth the trek. All in all, it took us about two hours to walk everything and it was very windy at times. I would a million percent recommend going to visit, and I personally would love to go back! I took a crap ton of photos, but am uploading the best photos of scenery for y'all. Also added a photo of a few of my friends that I had reenact a battle plan meeting, since, well, you, know, it is a castle, and you know they had this stuff at some point going on. It was beautiful. 😍🥰

Dumbarton Castle was an unexpected stop for us and our first castle in Scotland. Even though the top portion of the castle was restricted due to inclement weather, the rest of the castle was amazing. They had a reenactment going on while we were there as well. It's definitely worth spending some time here. Highly recommend!

Falls of Falloch, also known as Rob Roy's bathtub, is a picturesque 10-meter cascade located on the River Falloch in Scotland. The site features a modern art installation and an observation deck designed by John Kennedy called Woven Sound. This cantilevered structure offers a sheltered space for visitors to experience the falls up close while preserving the natural beauty of the surroundings.
Absolutely stunning ...small car park . Best to go early , and we decided to go on a raining day ...as not many people wish to go out in the rain ...but once walking around the falls you forget about the rain ....and take it the glory of waterfalls .... don't stop at the first fall...keep going the bigger one is at the top ....watch were you are walking and roots from tree trunks and can be a very swampy when wet ....water proofs and good boots you'll enjoy it so much ...and it's free to view ! I spent 2 hours here ...many are in and out ....no time frame it's down to you. We experienced wild swimmers there too .if you love water falls this has to be on your bucket dream list 🥰 when walking look around that's when I found the little water fall from the steps coming down from the top water fall on the left.
Sam M — Google review
Wonderful set of falls with a nice braided cage allowing a closer look safely without having to venture to the unguarded rock face edges. Access with some care is possible to the waters edge and even have swimming to the falls. Beware of the car park entrance as this is a sharp turn on and off a busy road with limited room. Anything over 5m long is not allowed due to the limited spaces approx 12.
ScottishExplorer — Google review
A fantastic and easily accessible waterfall! The car park is conveniently located right off the A82, and from there, it's just a short, mostly flat walk to reach the viewing platform. The path is well-maintained and the scenery along the way is beautiful. The falls themselves are stunning, especially after a bit of rain. A perfect stop for a quick and rewarding nature break. Highly recommend for all ages and abilities.
S G — Google review
The Falls of Falloch are beautiful, but it’s actually the whole river that makes this place truly special. There are many lovely spots along the river that are even more scenic and peaceful than the main waterfall itself. It’s absolutely worth taking the time to walk along the river, explore a bit, and enjoy the stunning nature and clear water. A wonderful place for a relaxing walk or a quiet moment in nature.
Peter M — Google review
A beautiful falls just off the highway, definitely a place to stop and take in the sights. The trail to the fails could've been a bit better for wheelchairs, but it was passable.

Car park can get busy & not suitable for Motorhomes in high season. I went in late October so only two vehicles there on arrival but on exit Motorhome had already got stuck in large pothole . Drivers fault too impatient to park when already full
Colin B — Google review
Worth this out of peak season...so peaceful so we were lucky no crowds as it was later and not heat wave. Nice circular walk too. Park lower down for free and you can take a easy walk to the higher falls. Food ar the pub up there lovely too

The Three Lochs Forest Drive is a 7-mile scenic route through the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, offering breathtaking views of Lochan Reoidhte, Loch Drunkie, Venachar, and Achray. This picturesque drive starts near Aberfoyle on the Dukes Pass and provides a unique journey through rich wildlife and stunning landscapes. The drive was established in 1977 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee.
Had a great time doing the three lochs drive. Plenty of places to stop and enjoy the views. The footpaths are well maintained .no problem for my wheelchair. Will definitely go again

Great wee drive around beautiful scenery. Should be £3 but the meter wasn't working so free. It's a dirt/gravel road so take your time. Hundreds of places to stop. Also an ice cream shack near the end which was excellent
William P — Google review
Absolutely loved this quiet forest road/track. Easy to find & sign posted. There is a 10MPH limit, which is great as you slowly meander around the forest & can stop to admire the view. There are numerous pull in places & places to park so you can explore the forest on foot

Beautiful place to go out for a sunny day barbecue and have fun with kids in the shore of lochs. Off course you can do a lot water activities like kayaking swimming etc. the place is kind of reserved and under forest preservation. The road is not good inside its raw so on sunny days its so dusty. Not that far from Glasgow. Bug usually busy if its sunny. Some places are nice to have camping.

Nestled along the picturesque shores of Loch Lomond, Inveruglas Pyramid, known as An Ceann Mòr, is a remarkable highlight of Scotland's Scenic Routes pilot project. This stunning viewpoint can be accessed via a newly developed trail that begins at the visitor center car park. As you meander through the trees and approach this striking pyramid structure, you'll be greeted with breathtaking panoramic views of Loch Lomond and its majestic surrounding mountains.
The view from this place of Loch Lomond is exquisite. We took a road trip and stooped to take a break to find that there is an excellent viewing point here. The public facilities are decent and this a good resting place if one is tired from a long drive.
Vibhu J — Google review
This was okay, the views on a clear day must be beautiful, unfortunately it was raining heavily when we were there. There are a number of steps to get to the pyramid and a short flat walk. The pyramid itself was fine to see but I would not recommend stopping here. There are bathrooms at this stop however so I would say go if you were already stopping here, otherwise give it a miss.
Bekki C — Google review
Fenced off and closed. Have to wonder what kind of architectural award this thing (basically two staircases up to a platform) deserves if it has to be closed off after 10 years. Pretty useless, despite winning an RAS award in 2016 for some reason.
James M — Google review
Knew this was shut due to works on the toilets/ car park area but still a good stop over even if you can't access the pyramid and climb it. Great views and nice wander around the area. Parking is cheap and quite plentiful ,although a few more benches and picnic tables would be handy the overall area is very scenic.
ScottishExplorer — Google review
A fantastic idea, beautifully designed in an amazing location but an embarrassment to its constructor. The plaque on it says it was constructed in 2016, winning an award from RIAS for its architecture. Sadly, whoever specified the construction material was not up to the job. Overall, for a structure so new, it's in shabby condition and there is sever rot in sections of the wood, with the top part of the gallery area closed off with security fencing. Such a shame, as the views it affords down Loch Lomond are stunning.
Calum M — Google review
Nice walk around the loch. The pyramid is not fully accessible as it's roped off due to rotten wood in places. Was still nice to visit Parking £1 for 2hrs
Andrea C — Google review
A lovely spot for a walk around the headland with great views over the Loch. Nice viewpoint with stepped access / seating to the top of the pyramid where the views are even better. Great to stretch the legs on a long journey and grab some air. Free parking and toilets.
Iantothomas — Google review
Peaceful surrounding with a beautiful view of Loch Lomond. Spacious car park with public toilet. This can be a stop along the way on A82 and easily missed but keep an eye on the Pyramid along the loch on right side and also the Sloy Hydro-Electric Power station on top left of the road. This was taken during summer 2022

A beautiful spot, with a long walk to follow the Loch for those who want to do so. Overnight camping is advertised as long as the fees are paid first. There is a lovely path of shingle beach and swimming is allowed if you are brave enough. There are picnic tables available and some stunning views over the loch

Great camping spot. Has toilets as well but no fresh water. There is running water which is probably totally fine to drink but it does say no drinking. You’re supposed to buy a permit to park.

Robert A — Google review
Great spot with convenient parking, toilet facilities and picnic table. We visited on a weekday in a bad weather so it was empty but I guess during peak seasons and good weather it must be super crowded.

A lovely lovely place for camping or swim. Camping charges in place if stay overnight. The views are stunning. There no charge for parking in 2025
Anna S — Google review
Came here for an easy walk along Loch Lomond. There's a good-sized carpark and even free public toilets. It was a cloudy/rainy weekday and plenty of space to park left. Just down at the Loch are several picnic spots. A nice little beach as well. Offering wonderful Loch views. From there we walked along the (traffic-free) path heading south. It's a nice, flat and easy walk. In the beginning lined with trees and very close to the water. We walked until Inverbeg and back again. That's about 4 miles. A nice little walk. Closer to Inverbeg the path is more out in the open, and sadly a lot closer to the A82, which makes it a bit noisy. But the views are fantastic all the way. It was really a nice thing to do. And we only met a handful of other walkers. On the way back it was fully raining. Somehow it always rains when we come to Loch Lomond. But it just added to the atmosphere and we were well prepared for a wet day out. Surely a nice place and a nice walk. Great for dog walkers (like us) as well.

Loch Lomond Brewery is located in the heart of Scotland's most famous national park, Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. They produce a range of high quality ales including Bonnie and Blonde, West Highland Way, and Sumatra Brown. Their beers are well-rated by beer lovers all over the world, making them an excellent choice for a Scottish brewery visit.
A proper, old school brewery and tap room. The server was friendly and helpful and the selection of beers on offer were great and are £5 each. There’s also a great selection of spirits and soft drinks. I’ve been drinking Loch Lomond beers for many years, so it was great to visit the heart of the company. The Wild Drover hazy IPA was my favourite. The adjacent beer shop is well stocked and core range beers at £2.80 each.

Not a huge drinker by any means, but when I do drink I like to try IPA’s & new trendy beers, I tried this one today from Loch Lomond Brewery & it was top notch! Freezing cold straight from the freezer, drank it in the back garden in the evening sun, a nice hearty beer with citrus hints & aftertaste throughout, everything down to the texture of the can was on another level, the perfect refreshment especially on a sunny evening, top class from Loch Lomond Brewery, right on the door step as well. Good job.

Puck's Glen is a must-visit attraction located in the Cowal Peninsula near Dunoon, easily accessible for those traveling from Gourock near Glasgow. Nestled within the Argyll Forest Park and close to the renowned Benmore Botanic Garden, it offers a mesmerizing spectacle of lush greenery with towering ferns, moss-covered rocks, and an array of native trees.
Simply the most amazing place I’ve ever visited! I can’t believe how beautiful it is. Trail consisting of waterfalls is out of the world. It’s like you go to fairytale. Most places that offer less, charge for entry. You definitely need to visit Puck’s Glen if you around. I can write so much about my visit, but you definitely need to go there to see how beautiful it is. I would recommend and I would encourage everyone to go there. You will not regret visiting such a magical place.
Ross M — Google review
Puck’s Glen feels like stepping straight into a storybook. Tucked away just outside Dunoon, this magical gorge walk winds through moss-covered rocks, tumbling waterfalls, and twisting stone steps that lead ever deeper into the forest. It’s one of the most atmospheric walks in Scotland — shaded, cool, and full of that enchanted feeling you can’t quite put into words. Every turn reveals another tiny cascade or ancient tree draped in green. Even on a misty day, it’s stunning (maybe even more so). The trail is well-marked but can be steep and slippery in places, so good shoes are a must. We looped back along the gorge track because of storm damage causing trees to fall on the trail. If you love fairytale forests, trickling streams, and places that feel hidden from time, Puck’s Glen is one of Scotland’s most unforgettable short walks.
Tasha ( — Google review
Totally magical. Arrived on a dark and wet afternoon, which just made the place more atmospheric! Like walking into a Middle Earth film set! Slippy underfoot in places, so take care. I found the biggest hazard, though, was being transfixed by the sights and sounds around me and forgetting to look where I was going! It took us 7 hours to get there. Definitely worth it!
Kath C — Google review
Great walk with stunning views. The waterfalls are beautiful to look at. The walk can get quite steep and some of the path is close to the edge. Kids will struggle and could fall. I took two children the whole route and both managed to survive.
Red G — Google review
Important before you visit, The lowest section of the Puck's Glen Gorge trail is closed due to dangerous fallen trees. Opens back up on April. You can still follow the trail up the way through woodlands and the gorge, plenty of spectacular scenery, Ideally should come after a raining spell so there will be various waterfalls to see. There is no toilets here but there is a public one about 3 miles away. Parking is free.
Scotty — Google review
Absolutely magical! Kept expecting to see fairies! Small size car park which can get really full, and options of two walks. The shorter walk is about a mile and a half all the way around. Good footwear is recommended as part can be narrow and slippery even on a dry day. Google maps will NOT help on this walk so know your route as markings are not clear. We started to the left of the information board and there are a LOT of steeps some of which are REALLY STEEP, and the woodland path on the way back (which brings you out to the right of the board) is a dirt path which is a steep decline on the way back to the car park. No matter how many reviews you read on here it will not do it justice to just how beautiful it is.
Maggie W — Google review
I've been on a lot of walks but this is one of the prettiest. It's just stunning. You walk alongside the river which has many small waterfalls along the way. There are bridges and flights of steps and on either side of the river are large stones covered in moss. The atmosphere is magical. It's a circular walk about an hour all round with plenty of free parking (no overnight parking). Beware the path is quite uneven and stony though solid. It's quite popular so get there early.
Eilidh B — Google review
There are no words that will stand up to the beauty of Pucks Glen. It feels jurassic at times. The multitude of waterfalls give great photo opportunities and plunge pools. There are a couple of ways to access the Glen as it loops around and takes about 2 hours....... would love it see it in winter with the snow dusting the vegetation. As with any Glen it can get slippery in places but sure and steady in these spots will ensure no mishaps. A great place for all the family.

Nestled near the charming village of Doune in central Scotland, Doune Castle is a stunning medieval fortress that dates back to the 13th century. This remarkable stronghold has witnessed significant historical events, including damage during the Scottish Wars of Independence before being restored in the 14th century by Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany. Today, visitors can explore its impressive architecture and rich history while enjoying audio tours narrated by Terry Jones.
So fun fact, Outlander and Monty Python was filmed in certain areas, and some of the rooms were recreated from this castle. The audio guide was great and gave you fascinating information about the history, back stories on outlander, as were as Monty Python and the holy Grail. They also sell shirts for Monty Python in the gift shop along with outlander gifts. The only negative parts is not enough parking, but in the center of town 5-11 minutes away, there is free parking, if you are walking.

Doune Castle is a fascinating and well-preserved medieval fortress that’s full of character and charm. Steeped in history, it’s also famously featured in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Outlander, and Game of Thrones – making it a must-visit for both history lovers and pop culture fans. The audio guide is fantastic, with fun narration that blends historical insight and a bit of humor (especially if you're a Monty Python fan!). Exploring the grand halls, towers, and courtyard feels like stepping back in time. Set in a beautiful, peaceful location, Doune Castle is easy to explore and not overly crowded. A brilliant stop that combines history, scenery, and a touch of cinematic magic.

We enjoyed walking around. We did not have tickets so we were directed to park in town. It was a lovely walk and likely best to park there in the first place and then follow the signs to the footpath. We thought it would take awhile, but it was really a rather short journey. It was not our favorite castle we visited but fun to see since we have watched Monty Python, Outlander, Outlaw King, and Game of Thrones. I actually wish we had gotten there before it opened and had been able to enjoy the grounds without the crowds. I would say if you are driving by - stop, but I wouldn't make a trip out to see just this castle.

Beautiful castle with a lot of history and stunning views. You don’t need more than 30–40 minutes to explore it, and wearing comfortable shoes makes a big difference. Visiting during the low season is definitely the best — quiet, relaxed, and easy to enjoy every corner.

Here’s another great castle where several movies have been filmed, including Monty Python and the holy Grail. A great courtyard and many floors and rooms to see that are furnished, including a great hall. In the room that I am standing in front of the large fireplace next to the window, there was a scene filmed there. There is one fireplace that is so large. They say you could roast a whole cow there at one time.

We were staying in the area for a few days. Didn't have much time though, got lots of plans. But still made some time to check out the famous Doune Castle. And since we are members of Historic Environment Scotland the entrance was free of charge. The carpark was full though - so we parked on the public lot behind the Co-op in town. An easy 10 minute walk away. The Castle is famous - many will know it from Game of Thrones or Outlander. But for me - and many many others - it will always be connected to Monty Python and the Holy Grail! The Audio-guide is even narrated by Terry Jones! The way the castle looks today is largely down to ‘Scotland’s uncrowned king’. Doune was the seat of Robert Stewart, the 1st Duke of Albany and Governor of Scotland. He acquired the castle in 1361. What we see today is probably only half a castle. Whether Doune was completed, and what might have been lost, is unclear. But even what remains today is very impressive and in great shape. If you do not feel like paying the entrance, you still can enjoy the outside views and even walk around it or enjoy the grounds outside. But going in (we took turns - since we were travelling with our Bulldog) is well worth the price and time. Monty Python used the exterior for shots as well as the interior. The courtyard inside is where the wedding party was taking place with John Cleese (as Lancelot) going berserk. But there's a lot more to see inside. Besides all the big halls inside, there are lots of small corners and hideaways to be discovered. As well as a lot of history to read (or listen to). A really good visit and not to be missed for fans or history buffs! Staff was wonderful, really friendly and welcoming. Surely a highlight on this years Road Trip through the UK. Highly recommended.

Very good. Highly recommend. Surpassed expectations. Very well preserved and detailed history storytelling. This castle was also used as a set in Outlander which you discover when playing the audio guide. Reasonably priced and good value for money. Beautiful grounds too. Small carpark. Best to go early morning. Difficult to turn into the street very tight 45° turn. Maybe best to continue to the round about and come from the other direction. Some more artifacts would be nice. However, you learn in the story a lot of their contents were designed to be quickly transported away.

We were staying in Stirling and visited Doune Castle which is 15 min away. It is famous for movies (Outlander, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and Game of thrown. It was worth a visit and learn about the history. There is an audio guide which was helpful.

The Village Rest Luss is a charming casual restaurant and cafe that serves seasonal Scottish cuisine from morning to evening. Established in 1705, it has become one of the most famous pubs in Scotland, offering a trip to the past with its Highland welcome and diverse drink selection. Located on Pier Road Alderdale Cottage in Luss, within Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, it provides a beautiful spot to relax and enjoy homely food with efficient service.
I visited this place for lunch with my family, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely great every dish we ordered was cooked to perfection and full of flavour. The steak pie stood out the most: rich, hearty, and packed with delicious flavour. The burgers were equally impressive, juicy and well seasoned, and my brother couldn’t stop raving about his fish and chips crispy on the outside and tender inside. Adding to our amazing food experience theservice was impressively fast, and the staff were incredibly friendly, making us feel welcome and well looked after throughout our meal. The cosy atmosphere of the place added to the charm. We’ll definitely be returning. Highly recommended if you’re in the area!

We came here as a group of 8 and had a wonderful meal. The food was delicious, portions were generous, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The staff were extremely polite and attentive, which made the experience even better. Highly recommend!

We visited this homely restaurant with a group of three. The staff was friendly, but the wait time was quite long. We were told it would be 10 minutes, but it ended up being much longer. We tried their F&C (Haddock) and Cod Fish wrap. The food was average, but the wrap had little cod fish filling. Considering the location, it’s a reasonable place for lunch if you’re visiting.

Visiting here to eat was a welcome respite from the rain and being dog friendly was a huge bonus. The menu was much better than most places in the area for those that don't eat meat & fish, so that is an additional bonus here. The staff, whilst clearly busy, were efficient and friendly and the food served quite promptly. Absolutely worth visiting!

Excellent food, staff and atmosphere. Pricier than in the city but it’s a touristy area. Really like this place. Clean and efficient too. Nice staff. They even have doggie menu.

Ate there with me family. It right along the trail and the food is great. We were all really impressed. The service was also great. They allow dogs which is also fun but made us miss our own dog back home. I highly recommend this great spot.

The Village Rest in Luss is such a lovely spot! The food is delicious, the staff are warm and welcoming, and the whole place has a cozy village charm. The Balloch House is an 18th-century inn located by the water, offering a cozy retreat with its low wooden-beamed ceilings, open fire, and homely atmosphere. The pub features leather armchairs, paved flooring, and a beer garden for outdoor dining. The menu includes a variety of dishes such as schnitzel parmigiana, roast dinners, fish, grilled food like steak and stonebaked pizzas.
We had a wonderful dining experience at The Balloch House! We ordered the ribeye steak, salmon fishcake, katsu chicken rice bowl, and the signature burger—everything was absolutely delicious. Each dish was cooked to perfection, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. The ambience was warm and welcoming, making it a great place to relax and enjoy a meal. The service was excellent too—friendly, attentive, and efficient. If you’re in the area and looking for great food in a lovely setting, The Balloch House is definitely worth a visit. Highly recommend!

This was a typical vintage in pub. I had Lamb Shank £25, which came in a nice red wine sauce. I could of done with a bit more sauce to be honest. My partner had a chicken schnitzel £17. She said the chips were'nt very warm. The service was quite slow, as the waitress had loads of tables to service. We wanted vinegar, which we asked for but it never arrived.

We had an amazing dinner today, and it was such a lovely experience from start to finish. I went for the Hunter's Chicken Schnitzel with a side of halloumi fries, while my wife chose the signature burger both dishes were absolutely delicious. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted just as good as it looked. The atmosphere in the restaurant is exactly what you’d want for a relaxing evening out warm, welcoming, and cozy. It felt inviting the moment we walked in, and it made our meal all the more enjoyable. The staff were fantastic too really friendly, attentive, and welcoming without being overbearing. They made us feel well looked after throughout our visit. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our time here and will definitely be returning. Highly recommended for anyone looking for great food in a cozy setting with excellent service.

Manager was very welcoming to us first timers to the Balloch House. Gave us a fab seat by the fire which was kept roaring all night giving a very cosy atmosphere. I had the weekend treat menu and hubby are from a la carte. Knocked a star off as his hollindaise was missing the brown shrimp. Our server, Megan, was lovely and kept the drinks flowing. Thank you for a lovely meal - we'll recommend and be back if in the area. Tandoori chicken starter was lovely as was sea bass and fishcakes. Loved the volume of music too, not too loud to talk but made the place feel relaxed 😎

Pub
The Queen Of The Loch is a pub in Scotland with a traditional British menu and a daily carvery. The pub offers en suite rooms for rent, as well as clean facilities and friendly staff. It is popular with tourists and locals alike, and its food is generally good.
British style pub food at reasonable price, locals come here to eat not just a tourist place. Recommend to go to bar to order donot use the app to order for first timers. Carvery is great with good meat choices and lots of vegetables. ask the server for instructions on how it works.
Erica P — Google review
The staff here are very friendly and welcoming. The bar and restaurant is very modern and spacious and also cozy with a pool table. The food was really good, the quality and portions were great for the price. Our first night here was great. The service was perfect, but on the 2nd night it was busier than usual. The staff were not organised customers not given cutlery or longer waits for food. A good place for a quiet family meal or drinks.
The 6 — Google review
Went in this evening for a carvery with my family and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Reading the reviews I didn't have high hopes but I have to admit it was actually pretty good. The service wasn't great and I did feel like we got completely forgotten about (had to ask three different people for a highchair) and the staff don't tell you you need to order at the bar when you are seated. But the food itself was lovely. I would visit again.
Bronwyn — Google review
Arrived for an afternoon meal with my wife who is disabled. The communication between the staff was subtle, not obvious and in no time at all, she was assisted at the otherwise self service area to ensure that she had all that she wanted and that her food was taken to our table. (Normally something that I would do after she has chosen). The food was excellent, as was the value. However the skills/training or just genuine but subtle care and kindness was exceptional. Any restaurant operator should be proud to have this team on board!
Jim G — Google review
The staff were all really lovely. The service was great and everything done with a smile. Unfortunately I have to say a big thumbs down for the carvery. The meats were okay, (turkey was a bit dry). Cauliflower overcooked with no cheese watery sauce. I love red cabbage but this was like mush. Peas and carrots were okay. The stuffing was like cheap packet rubber squares. The roast potatoes were terrible. They had no colour to them. I don't think they ever saw the oven. But worst of all they tasted like they were 3 days or more old and reheated more than once. If that is what has happened to the roast potatoes, then what about the rest of the food. It doesn't feel safe to eat. Therefore, we won't be back. Also, the restaurant could do with a bit of an overhaul. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I thought you would appreciate an honest review.
Andrea S — Google review
Sadly the carvery was not up to that of our previous visits. The restaurant was around half full at the time of our visit at 6pm on a Monday. The carvery meats were great but the vegetables were rather sad looking, more like leftovers after a busy service. We ordered a portion of pigs in blankets and they were rock hard. The server agreed and arranged some fresh for us which was great. Overall we felt the food let the restaurant down this time.
Martyn B — Google review
Very happy with the carvery. My only drop in point is slices of meat could have been thicker. Not taking anything away from the taste and quality, that was great. The veggies and gravy were yummy and plenty to choose from. I was to stuffed for a puddings, but my family all tucked in and devoured there plates of food. The staff were all lovely polite and helpful and friendly. We have been numerous times before and will be sure to come back again.
William H — Google review
The one positive of our experience was that it was cheap. With 40% off mains, ridiculously cheap. Less than £30 for two people including two drinks. However, I would not return. It felt grubby. The menus were dog-eared, sticky and stained. I needed to wash my hands after handling them they were so bad. The fried fish was overcooked - with dark brown batter. The steak was tough. I don’t like ordering food from the bar, particularly when there appears to be no one serving, and it was a busy Saturday night. Overall it was an unpleasant experience. We only ate here because we were staying at the hotel. Breakfast next morning was ok apart from the lousy service. The waitress preferred to clear a large table rather than take our order - in a virtually empty restaurant. It amazes me that anywhere offers food and service that is so bad. We won’t be back.

Benmore Botanic Garden is a breathtaking 120-acre paradise located in the picturesque Cowal Peninsula, within Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. This enchanting garden boasts an impressive array of plants from around the globe, with rhododendrons taking center stage alongside majestic redwoods. Visitors can explore peaceful walking trails that meander through vibrant floral displays and lush greenery, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers.
I had a wonderful time visiting Benmore Botanical Garden. The setting is absolutely stunning, with a wide variety of trails perfect for hiking and exploring. The grounds were spotless, with no litter anywhere, which really added to the sense of being surrounded by unspoiled beauty. The gardens themselves are breathtaking, with so much to see and enjoy, whether you’re wandering through towering redwoods, exploring quiet pathways, or simply taking in the incredible views. There’s also a small café and shop on site, both of which were welcoming and provided a nice place to pause and refresh during the visit. Overall, it was an excellent experience and I would highly recommend Benmore Botanical Garden to anyone who enjoys nature, peaceful walks, and beautiful scenery.

Benmore Botanic Garden is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places we’ve ever visited. Tucked in the hills near Dunoon, it feels like stepping into another world — towering redwoods, trickling streams, and endless paths winding through lush green landscapes. We walked beneath massive trees that made us feel tiny, crossed little stone bridges, and paused often just to listen to the sound of birds and running water. The Avenue of Giant Redwoods near the entrance is breathtaking — straight, tall, and awe-inspiring — but every trail leads somewhere new and equally magical. It was actually closed to walk on when we went, but you can still admire it! There are benches and viewpoints scattered throughout, perfect for picnics or quiet breaks, and the small café at the entrance is lovely for a warm drink after exploring, though our kids opted for ice cream. Peaceful, wild, and full of wonder — Benmore Botanic Garden is a must-visit for anyone who loves nature and beautiful walks.

Gorgeous gardens full of amazing trees, ferns and other plants. Huge area covered (some closed off due to storm damage) and paths wind in and out everywhere. Absolutely beautiful place. There are new things to see round every corner. I was glad to follow the orange route, which was mostly flat and easily accessible. The food in the cafe was delicious. We had the grilled ham and cheese sandwich and the BLT wrap. We arrived before it opened, so parking was easy. It appeared that people may have had more difficulty parking later on as the carpark was full. I would very much recommend this place. We couldn't stop saying 'wow' at the beautiful views.

Nestled in the picturesque Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, Go Ape Aberfoyle is an adventure-seeker's paradise. With one of the UK's longest zip wires, reaching over 400m and soaring 150 feet above the ground, it's a must-visit for those seeking an exhilarating challenge.
This was my first ever Go Ape experience on my birthday at the rip old age of 47... the staff we encountered were friendly and put saftey at the forefront of everything. Before moving off on our own we felt fully confident on what we were doing. The course was amazing as it started with a massive zip line and then with shaken knees and the adrenaline pumping we were off on our own. Thank you to the staff there and I look forward to our next visit

Fabulous time for all the family. Need a reasonable level of fitness to get yourself round. Nice way to get a little adrenaline rush as you head down the zip wires. Take clothes that will wash well. The mud gets engrained on the wood chip landings. The 426 meter zip line at the end is spectacular you finish and start with amazing views. Staff are very helpful and friendly.

Brilliant experience from start to finish. Staff and instructors welcoming and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble - as well as being a good laugh. Great course and great to have a choice of paths and routes to take; challenging enough but not too difficult. Highlight was by far the final zip line across the gorge/valley as a reward for the effort on the course with spectacular views across Stirlingshire. Made all the better by the stunning weather and setting sun but of course, sadly Go Ape don’t have control over the conditions. Slight sticking point was having to pay for parking separately since the course sits in the Forestry park; including this in the price of the ticket might help. Thanks again - amazing experience, highly recommend and would look forward to visiting again and/or visiting another site

Absolutely great experience at GoApe! Fantastic instructor which gave us detailed training on how to use the safety equipment. The best is the entrance as well as the exit! Both are long zip lines crossing a valley. That’s amazing! The course is pretty fun with the two Tarzan swings and some other cool objects. Right next to the GoApe, there is also a nice place to walk. Could spend the entire day there and if you need a snack, they have a coffee shop!

Luss Pier is a picturesque spot located in the charming village of Luss, easily accessible from Glasgow via the A82. Visitors can park at the Luss South carpark and take a leisurely walk along the Fairie trail, passing by the village church and enjoying scenic views of Loch Lomond. The pier offers stunning vistas of the lake, making it an ideal location to soak in nature's beauty.
Luss is an incredibly pretty village. Came here in 2016 for a daytrip. Liked it so much that we returned for four nights this time. Right in the middle of the village. Besides the beautiful village there's the Loch Lomond. A wonderful lake, great on sunny days but even more atmospheric on cloudy or even rainy days. And here from the Pier you get a great view. On the right there's a small Promenade with a bunch of benches and to the left there the beach with some BBQ spots close to the carpark. It's a pretty small village. Takes a few minutes to get from one end to the other. And still I can't get enough of it. If you do, think about taking a Loch Cruise. Several boats depart from here. Round Trips or One-way trips. Prices are really fair and it's a really nice thing to do. On sunny or rainy days. Or just grab some food at the Village shop and sit down at the pier area or on the beach to fully enjoy the spectacular views. Be sure to pay at the carpark. It's very strict here. And even it's packed with visitors (well, we're part of it), it's easy to see why. It's just a really pretty village with an amazing Loch location.
Alex H — Google review
We wanted to visit Lake Lamond whilst in Glasgow. It's easy to get to from Glasgow via the A82. Luss is the place we stopped and glad we did. We avoided the bigger much busier car park and parked at the Luss South carpark (£1 per hour pay and display). Walked along the stream on the Fairie trail until we ended up at the village church and then at the loch and finally walked through the village. The entire place has lovely nature with great views. I would definitely recommend this place if you are in the area. It was a popular place on a weekend during summer holidays but not crowded. Wellies will be useful if you want to walk or splash in the shallow water. WARNING- Many cars parked along School Road (residential parking with permit holder signs) had parking tickets on them.

We parked in the Luss south car park and walked the 10 minutes down through the pretty village of Luss, to the pier. Despite not taking a boat trip out, we walked the length of the pier, which offered serene views over Loch Lomond & Ben Lomond. We also meandered up the beach either side of the pier, which was tranquil on a quiet weekday.

With departure points at Balloch, Luss, Tarbet, and Inveruglas, there are plenty of opportunities to embark on a cruise and admire the bonnie banks from different perspectives.
We enjoyed it so much we did it twice! First we took the ferry to Balmaha and back (via Conic Hill and the Millennium Forest Park). The commentary was fun and informative. The following day we took the round cruise from Tarbet, with plenty of historical tales from the pilot, John. We were blessed with beautiful weather for the end of September and the crew on both ferries made it even sunnier 🌞⛴️

We had a lovely experience with the company. We booked a circular tour and it was £18, very reasonable. Because the boat was quite full they decided to split us in half and they run an extra shift. I thought it was really nice. The person leading the cruise was really great, the only problem we had I couldn't hear what he was saying because the speakers on the open deck didn't work. Facilities were nice and clean and you can get drink on board. I would highly recommend it.

Brilliant Cruise from Balmahra on Loch Lomand. We would absolutely recommend, for a great 90 minute circular cruise with the most breathtaking views. Child and Dog friendly. Lots of refreshments available too. The staff were lovely and welcoming along with the Skipper who gave a great commentary. A brilliant day!

National forest
Nestled near Aberfoyle, The Lodge Forest Visitor Centre serves as the perfect entry point to the stunning Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. Open daily from 10 am, this center is brimming with information about the local wildlife and features an engaging wildlife room complete with live video feeds showcasing native creatures and captivating films of birds of prey. With convenient amenities like parking, restrooms, and a cozy café, it’s an ideal launchpad for family adventures.
Was lucky to come here for the second time on a scorching hot day. Loads of parking - we’d spent hours at the 3 lochs drive before coming here and still managed to find a space. The ladies who were working in the visitor centre were so friendly and knowledgeable. We’d asked them for a map so we could see the 4 walking paths and decide which one(s) we were going to do. We were given a map and ended up doing 2 of the trails. The ladies were then answering random questions my 8yo had about the area and such and then they spent 5 mins teaching him about contour lines on a map and comparing it to the 4D model of the hills they had in the centre. The 2 trails we did were just lovely. We followed the white trail first which is suitable for families and wheelchairs. This takes you down to a waterfall. There are hammocks, little hobbit houses, bug houses and a little water feature the kids can play in if there’s been rain. Cafe is as you’d expect with food and prices. We brought our own packed lunch and sat on the grass near the centre to eat. Keep a look out for the mirrored silhouettes in the forest (white coloured trail), these are cool and a little eery.

It was rainy day on our visit. The center was accessible for wheelchair. There is an accessible walking route. It takes almost half an hour. You will see an impressive waterfall, is called "the burn of the fawn". My partner was able to go close by wheelchair. The center even provides a scooter for people with limitations in mobility to go on the route. Beautiful scenery!
Trawheel.packer — Google review
Lovely walk accessible for everyone! Staff was so helpful and got us a mobility scooter for free :) We took the white path and it was 100% worth it. A beautiful waterfall and bird/squirrel for everyone to enjoy, regardless of disabilities!!

“The Lodge Forest Visitor Centre in Aberfoyle is a beautiful gateway to Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. It offers scenic walking trails, a waterfall, wildlife viewing, and a café with panoramic views. A must-visit spot for nature lovers!”
Chathura M — Google review
A really excellent day out. We did the blue and the green trails and also stripped off at the red squirrel and bird hide where we saw 6 red squirrel and many wild birds. Plus we saw a sparrow hawk swoop down to try attack the small birds. A sparrow hawk only 3 feet away from you in full attack mode ; as Chris Packham would say “that’s why you lay your license fee”! The visitor centre is excellent also. We did stop at the cafe and it was really good food at a good price. Perhaps one or two extra vegetarian options would be appreciated. Parking is £1 for an hour or £5 for all day. Parking takes coins and card and is pay and display. All in all 5 stars.

Wheelchair accessible waterfall route with wildlife viewing and plenty of rest spots
D B — Google review
The forest walk is fantastic, with lots to see and do. It's clearly five stars and the visitor centre is lovely. However the cafe is extremely poorly run. Even at quiet times service is poor. We waited over 20 mins for 2 cheese sandwiches and a coffee, which were at the counter despite us having been given a buzzer. Staff were rude and unapologetic. We've now been several times and had similar experiences so we won't be back there. 😞

I visited the Lodge visitor centre on a Friday afternoon. It was quiet. Free access, good range of information boards, free maps, free (clean) toilet facilities. Great base to set off from to explore the Queen Elizabeth forest 🌳

Inchmahome Priory is a 13th-century monastery located on the largest of three islands in the picturesque Lake of Menteith in Scotland. Founded by Augustinian canons around 1238, this secluded island provided a peaceful retreat for worship and also served as a sanctuary for royal visitors, including Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots. The priory's history includes being a site of refuge during significant events such as the Battle of Pinkie.
Such a lovely visit, especially in nice weather. Beautiful island on the ‘Lake’ of Menteith, home to the ruins of a 13th century Augustinian priory. It takes about 8 minutes by boat from Port of Menteith, operated by Historic Scotland. The small island is quite densely wooded, with ancient hazels and oaks as well as non-native sweet chestnuts (600 years old) and Victorian giant redwoods. Fantastic for birders - I saw or heard ospreys, GS woodpeckers, canada geese, nuthatches, wrens and loads of more common species. I was even told that there had been badgers and pine martens there (presumably good swimmers!). The ruins are in a relatively good state for being so old and the adapted chapter house provides shelter for some of the more ornate medieval carved gravestones. Robert the Bruce visited three times in the 1300s and Mary Queen of Scots took refuge here as a 4 year old girl. There’s even a boxwood bower said to have been planted by Mary, although the original plants (taken from Doune Castle) were probably killed by Victorian memento-hunters. Upon arrival by small boat, there is a small reception / shop building and seperate toilet block. There are paths around the shore and toward the island’s centre. The HS staff were friendly, well-informed and skilled on the boats - ask them anything! Beverley, a local, was particularly knowledgeable about the ancient history of the area. Dogs are very welcome on the boat / island. Go to the nearby Karma hotel for good drinks and food after visiting.
Alasdair B — Google review
Fabulous place, steeped in history and of particular importance for Mary Queen of Scots fans. It's a lovely walk round the island, the priory is beautiful and very atmospheric, and we were lucky enough to see the local osprey whilst we were there. The little boat trip across to the island makes us particularly special, and the staff were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Absolutely worth a visit.
Catherine C — Google review
We had a lovely family trip here. The boat trip is a fun twist to visiting the Priory, which my boys enjoyed greatly. Walking through the priory ruins was enjoyable. the staff were all very friendly and offered to answer questions. The walk round the island took 15-20mins (at the pace of a 3 year old!). We weren’t lucky enough to see Ospreys this time. Well worth a visit. Book in advance to ensure your space on the boat.
Katie F — Google review
This was such an amazing trip. My husband and I absolutely loved every second of it. We hadn't pre-booked tickets, so we had to wait a short while as the first boat was full. Before long, another boat came along, and we were ferried across with another couple (you can pay at the little shop on the island where the priory is). The trip over was about 10 minutes, and the scenery surrounding the lake was beautiful. Once on the island, we had a walk round and sat for a few minutes just taking in the peace and tranquillity. The priory itself is interesting (I bought a guidebook from the shop to read up about it), and the whole area is peaceful and historic. The woman ferrying us back across the lake was telling us about the area and about the history of the lake and it's surroundings, and what had been found there in the past. I found her very informative and knowledgeable about the area. All in all, it was a really enjoyable outing.
J M — Google review
The boats only hold 12 people and they only run on certain schedules. make sure you get tickets in advance. I don't like the car park where you wait for the boat as it's just a shame. there were no toilets at the parkingot. The toilets and gift shop are on the island. once you get to the island and visit the Abbey, make sure you go through the woods and take the little walk around the whole island. boats run every 45 minutes 10:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m..
Amy F — Google review
A short boat trip out to the island in the Lake of Menteith, the ruined priory occupies a peaceful location with just the sound of water lapping at the shores. We had an eagle fly over in the way out and badgers curries living in the Widows of the island. A magical trip.
Geoff B — Google review
Beautiful island & priory ruins, on a stunning island. All the staff were lovely but a special shout out to Beverley who took us back off the island; very knowledgeable & friendly.

The Loch Lomond Faerie Trail in the charming village of Luss, Scotland offers a magical journey through enchanting woodlands. It's designed to ignite imagination and creativity, with hidden faerie houses, puzzles, and opportunities to learn about local flora and fauna. The trail takes about 60 minutes to complete over a mile. Visitors can pick up guide books from the South Car Park caravan before embarking on this unique adventure that combines nature exploration with mystery solving.
Pity about the rain, but we loved the trail. Easy and great pics! Also saw cooos
Tracy G — Google review
Took my 6-year-old and 3-year-old on this magical trail, and they absolutely loved every minute of it! From the start, we were handed a lovely little activity pack that included a pencil, a wristband, a sticker, and a booklet with a map and full of fun clues and riddles to guide us along the path. Throughout the trail, there were delightful surprises at every turn—fairy ornaments, whimsical wooden cabins and sculptures, glittering treasure chests, and charming stops where the children could solve riddles or simply explore. It really sparked their imagination and curiosity. Do note: if it’s been raining recently, I highly recommend children wear Wellington boots, as some parts can get muddy. The trail isn’t suitable for pushchairs, so little ones should be able to walk most of the way. As an adult, I also appreciated the peaceful setting, spotting different species of trees, plants, and insects along the way. It took us about two hours to complete the trail at a relaxed pace. While my 6-year-old had no trouble finishing, my 3-year-old was definitely worn out by the end—but still smiling! A fantastic outdoor experience for families with young children—highly recommended for a bit of woodland magic and adventure. The lady at the reception point was also very friendly and helpful. If you wish you can also buy fairy wands or biodegradable glitter for the kids.

This was a good walk, make sure you have suitable footwear, we bought a map from the little hut. The kids enjoyed it, helped tire them out and visited the animals at the end.

Dont bother, its a public path (dog walkers etc freely walking in) and its £££. Go to the haggis hunt instead, its free, theres a small play area and visitor centre with crafts and a lovely pub. Also staff are rude. They make you wait for your time slot....to walk a public path!! Fuming doesnt cover it

Worth the visit, such a well planned and thoughtful trail.

I visited the trail with my husband and our 7 year old daughter in the school holidays. We aren’t from round the area so we didn’t know what to expect. We arrived and were welcomed by a lovely member of staff who talked us through everything we needed to know. Our daughter purchased some fairy dust which was a lovely extra and we set off on our way. The trail had been well thought out . You can tell a lot of effort has gone into it! The route was well sign posted too. We all thoroughly enjoyed the trail. Lots of lovely little touches a long the way. A really lovely experience for all ages. The animals at the end were also a lovely little extra. We would recommend!! We hope to back in the future!
Carrie D — Google review
This isn't just for children, boyfriend and I went and had a lot of fun following the trail and filling in the booklet. Went here to break up a journey from Fort William to Carlisle as something a little different; it took is around 1 hour 10 to get round. Trail not challenging so doesn't distract from the fun. Fairy houses are beautiful and more then enough sculptures and hidden treasurest to keep it fun and interactive. Would recommend for any ages.

The shop features an impressive selection of items, from fresh salmon and microbrewery beers to Scottish gins and whiskeys. As a working farm, Auchentullich offers an authentic experience with its incredible meat section and flat whites made with milk from the farm.
Loved it! A proper farm shop. Pricey, but nice to support local businesses. They have coffee & ice cream as well as other bits and bobs. A nice pit stop for some odds & ends, or if you are like me & love a farm shop, it’s great for a browse to pick up some local produce.
Lou G — Google review
Ice cream is a hit or miss but once you find a flavour you like- in my case it was millionaire shortbread, then it’s impossible to stop. Bounty flavour is also decent. Expected more from the fruit flavours but they taste artificial which is a surprise. Ice cream comes at a fair price comparable to the quality and considering it’s made onsite by the milk from their own cows. Even the chocolate cone alone is bloody good. Otherwise, a lovely selection of good quality, whole food products too but anything chocolate was for me heaven there.
Kuba O — Google review
Stopped in twice during our honeymoon and the ice cream was amazing 🤩 Love how the flavours change every day. The chocolate cone was absolutely lovely too! Lovely little shop to pick up some milk, bread and other goodies too. Seeing the Highland cattle is always nice too ❤️

Nice farm shop with variety of items, we bought the kids the animal shaped cookies (cow, horse, unicorn) and they were delicious. Nice seating area outside with cows in the field next to it. The ice creams looked delicious

We had a very good time here during this trip. The bedrooms are all cozy and clean. The kitchen is well equipped and functional, and we all loved hanging out in the spacious living room. Due to the weather condition we didn’t have a chance to use the hot tub this time, hope we have a chance to visit here again and enjoy it!

Came here for the ice cream, but sadly due to a recent power cut, there was no ice cream available. But the items on sale did look nice and we ended up buying some bits and bobs, their own fresh milk and the bread were stand out highlights for me

Nestled within the Cairngorms National Park, Lake of Menteith is a picturesque destination offering more than just stunning views. This is Scotland's only lake, and it boasts excellent fly fishing opportunities for rainbow and brown trout. The surrounding area features walking paths, ideal for leisurely strolls, as well as inviting picnic spots along the eastern shore where visitors can admire the local wildlife and serene aquatic plants.
Super! Very nice lake. The surroundings is beautiful. Lake is much bigger then it looks 😉
Suzy P — Google review
The only reason to see this lake is because of its unique name in Scotland where all other bodies of water are called lochs. Lake of Menteith is a quiet place for water sports, especially swimming. It isn’t easy to get close to the water other than a small woodland car park which allows a short hop across the road to the banks of Menteith. We didn’t stay too long but at least can say we’ve seen it!

Spectacular. We were really lucky to visit this tranquil setting on a day with amazing sunshine. I would recommend you spend at least 30 minutes here exploring and relaxing. If you get a good day bask in the sunshine. Worth a visit. Someone has kindly put a tire swing here to enjoy, be careful on it we heard a few people have fallen in the river using it.

We stayed in one of the newly refurbished A Frame Apartments, and from the minute we stepped in the front door the whole place was outstanding... The full width and height sliding doors do perfect justice to the incredibly beautiful lake and mountain views... We have been here many times and stayed in both the cabins and the apartments and we are always still astonished at how fantastic the view is... It changes from hour to hour and the wildlife is all around....the apartment itself is great with all mod cons and everything you need for your break... Nice personal touches such as the woodwork expertly carved and finished by Chris... All in all a fabulous place to stay and we cannot recommend it highly enough...

Limited parking but lovely place for paddle sports. Saw lots of people on fishing boats too.

Scotland's only lake! Although... that's what people usually assume. There are, however, nine other "lakes" in Scotland. This body of water's alternative name is Loch Inchmahome, and until the early 19th century, its Scottish name was Loch of Mentieth. The lake is known for the ruins of Inchmahome Priory, the monastery where Mary, Queen of Scots, sought refuge in 1547.

Finnich Glen is a secluded glen known for the Devils Pulpit rock set amid reddish waters. It's reached by steep steps and can be difficult to find, but is stunning when seen from the top. The glen is wet and slippy at this time of year, so it's not ideal for tourists who aren't experienced hikers or climbers.
Fantastic spot, though bring your good hiking boots and prepare to get a little bit muddy! Also, parking is very limited. The views are stunning and great for pics. The best way down I found was the old stone stair path (which seems to he the offical entry point), though the steps have collapsed about half way down, so you have to scramble, but there are plenty of footholds and it is not very far to get to relatively even ground, even if it is a bit awkward.
Kate K — Google review
Wonderful spot and beautiful gorge !! Though when you visit please TAKE YOUR RUBBISH WITH YOU !! This is a beautiful nature spot but many people discarded crisp packaging, their coffee to-go cups and soda cans Maybe we can all work together and everyone can take a bottle piece of trash back with them from the forest to make this place beautiful again ! 🌱 ✨
Teresa S — Google review
Parking is a bit awkward. Not a lot of space. Once you find it there is a steep stair like way down but not that bad. Bit slippery in places. Once down it’s quite nice, with a strange reddish colour water running through.
Matthew R — Google review
Fantastic place, gorgeous views. Getting there on foot is a bit of a pain, and no clear entry point signed. Be aware, very narrow and steep climb down and back up after. Also, be ready to get your shoes and/or feet wet.
PancakeWarrior — Google review
If anyone finds a DJI Drone soon, I'd love to at least get my SD card back after something fell on mine a few days ago while visiting. I imagine it will wash up at some point. Otherwise, really beautiful place but hardly any labels or markers. Took me probably 45 minutes to find a....not safe way down....only to realize the stairs were on the other side that you'd have to cross the road to get to. All worth it though.
Ethan H — Google review
The steps down to the bottom of the Gorge are indeed on the other side of the stream going down the gorge as to what Google says. The steps are steep but on this day we're easily managed by people between 8 and 60 although don't attempt on a wet day. The photos to get here are at the bottom of the steps.
Simon M — Google review
Worth waiting for a parking spot or walking a little bit. It is a short walk and neat to explore. We found that many people didn't stay very long. If possible, wear waterproof boots to be abke to explore a little more. If you were able to park in the lot - walk ALONG the ROAD to the break in the wall past the bridge. From the lot it may feel like you should go into the field - don't unless you just want to walk around. From the break in the wall walk away from the road. There are interwoven paths so you can choose the least muddy, but keep heading away fron the road until the steps show up on your left.
Kym S — Google review
The locals go out of their way to stop people seeing this, which I think backfires given the state of the track and the appalling rubbish strewn everywhere. If you’re lucky enough, grab a parking spot at the junction of the A809 and the B834 but ignore the people heading across the field - this strands you on the wrong side of the gorge and you will need to come back. Instead walk down the busy A809, or, cross the field parallel to the road until you cross the bridge, then enter the woods and follow the multiple unofficial muddy paths. Any of them will get you there, the one alongside the farm fence is the most direct, but those closest to the gorge will give you decent pictures. Around 100 metres in you’ll find a staircase that’s in pretty bad shape. Large parts of it have collapsed and there’s no rope or handrail. It’s a short climb to the bottom and from here you are deep in the gorge with wonderful sights all around. If you want to see the Devil’s Pulpit then you’ll need to turn left, and scramble through water, or across rocks and trees for a few more metres, but even if you can’t manage this, just getting to the bottom of the stairs gives you a wonderful experience. In the wet this could be extremely treacherous, but on a hot day the path wasn’t too slippery.

We stopped for cold drinks. It was unseasonably hot. Being American, mom wanted ice with her Coke. They served the ice in a Scottish beer glass that of course had a letter ‘T’ for the brand of beer. My mom wanted to buy it for my brother, Thomas, who couldn’t make the trip. Barkeep said it wasn’t for sale. We went outside to enjoy our beverages. The handsome gentleman at the table, on the computer (owner) came out and told my mom she could just keep it. He joked she could just slip it in her bag. Later, the young barkeep (son?) came out and told my mom she could keep it (sent by his dad?). Very good service. Sorry we missed the karaoke the night before. Maybe next time.

Great facilities to wash and perfect loch side access. There’s a jetty and nice bits to sit. The only issue with anywhere in Scotland, especially near water, is the midges so come prepared!! If you get good weather you’re in heaven! Again, the staff were lovely and helpful.

We had the most amazing stay here. Pitched in a stunning spot by the Loch. It was incredibly quiet and peaceful and the facilities are very good - best showers we’ve found at a campsite so far. The team onsite are so friendly and helpful also. It was a totally perfect trip for us.
Adam R — Google review
Lovely site, well kept and friendly staff. Right next to the loch, it's great for swimming and paddleboarding. Just remember, the midges are on steroids in this neck of woods, and if the conditions are right for them, they'll make your life hell 🤣. Definitely recommend it, and I will be back

A beautiful lochside location with 5 star facilities. We were made most welcome by all the team. Will definitely be returning again.

Site Manager Sue and her husband John are on some mad power trip. She actually lies to try cover her tracks and initially appears friendly, but can quickly get very officious, pedantic and vengeful. Been here 2 weeks and been bullied and harassed by them and one of their staff. I'm a single pensioner. Some of the staff are genuinely nice though. But they seem to have to stay in line. I'm here for another week, but that's because this is my Scotland, and my Loch Lomond. I'm not here for them. I'm here to enjoy the sun and the paddleboarding in my own country. Stench of sewerage is getting stronger by the day though, so it's hard to recommend, which is what I like to do when deserved.

Very good breakfasts here. Good prices too. Well worth a visit. Went back for a second time. Great again. Only £5.95 for a full Scottish breakfast, with toast. Decent quality products obviously used. Thoroughly recommended

Very casual dining. Always a favourite on our trips to Scotland! Food is comforting and filling. Staff is friendly. Service is fast but you can stay as long as you want to. Plenty of parking across the street at the park. Easy walking to shopping and boat docks.

Auchentoshan Distillery, located on the outskirts of Glasgow, offers guided tours that provide insight into their unique triple distillation process. This method sets them apart from other distilleries and results in a delicate and smooth single malt scotch whisky with distinct flavors of vanilla, green apples, and fresh citrus.
Absolutely fantastic distillery tour. All the staff were very friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. A great tour from start to finish. The shop and tasting room are brilliant. It's just a short drive out of Glasgow and I highly recommend you pay it a visit if you're I the area.
Ned L — Google review
A very professional winery experience and a great environment, but unfortunately the quality of the souvenir needs to be strengthened. We bought a cup and were not treated well. The quality was not ideal. As a winery that needs to be operated for a long time, you must be persistent in the quality. Please check it repeatedly if you buy any items.
Donny C — Google review
Auchentoshan has always been one of my favorite scotches, so it was a no-brainer for me to visit during my stay in Glasgow. It was fairly easy to get to using public transport (a train from downtown to Dalmuir, followed by a 15-20 minute walk). I had a wonderful distillery tour with a full tasting experience, and picked up a couple of distillery cask bottles afterwards. It was a nice touch to be able to fill, seal, and label my own bottles! I look forward to opening the bottles on a special occasion. Will definitely return on my next Scotland trip!
Kenji S — Google review
We visited Auchentoshan today and enjoyed The Origin Tour in the company of a fantastic guide, Brian. Despite the distillery being in an extended silent season due to maintenance requirements, Brian made it a really enjoyable and funny experience with his anecdotes and humour. The hot toddy at the start of the tour was a lovely surprise on what was a chilly afternoon, and there were two great drams to sample at the end. What a great distillery, and great whiskies too!
John S — Google review
My first ever distillery tour. The very young guide, forgot his name (Bill, Ben or Bob 😂) was very helpful in making us understand the single malt origins and the making of this fine drink. I liked a lot also the lady at the reception who was very kind.

Received a warm welcoming at reception. A knowledgeable young man well versed in his craft led the ultimate tour on 11.09.25 at 14:00. Worth a visit.

Portnellan is a fantastic destination for a short getaway, offering cozy cabins that are well-maintained and equipped with all the necessary amenities for cooking meals. Exploring the surrounding areas is easily accessible within an hour's drive, providing ample opportunities to encounter wildlife and enjoy scenic walks. Although the weather might have been too cold during one visit to use the kayaks, it is certainly worth trying them out in more favorable conditions.
Fantastic and very comfortable lodges in a wonderful location with very good on site facilities. Superb views over the lochs. Hill walking and munroes on the doorstep, highland scenery close by. Well equipped and comfortable accommodation and a warm welcome from Cameron who could not have been more helpful. Highly recommended.

We absolutely loved our stay at Portnellan We stayed for 3 nights. It has a lovely tranquil, peaceful zen like feel to it, tucked into the hillside. Great location to visit lots of attractions around the area. Our lodge was really well equipped. There's a really useful on-site shop. Cameron is awesome, catch him for a chat for extra tips! Thanks for an unforgettable stay.

I thought that the views from the lodges had been altered in the photos on the website - but no! It really is as beautiful as it seems. We spent 11 wonderful days in Portnellan and would love to come back some day.

Had a fabulous stay at the Kingfisher lodge at Portnellan holiday park. It was clean to a high standard and had everything we needed to eat, relax and stay at the property. Outstanding 360 views from every single window! It’s close to town (5 minute drive or 45-60 min picturesque walk depending on ability) and is situated right next to a loch and Ben More. Most places are easy to get to nearby as well within an hour’s drive - Oban, National Parks, Loch Lomond etc. would highly recommend and if I’m in the area again, wouldn’t hesitate to come back.

We stayed in the Deerstalker Lodge. Very warm, comfortable and ideal position to explore the Highlands. We ordered an Asda food shop to arrive when we got there which helped although there is a good local small shop. We will definitely return

We are very grateful to the owner of Portnellan for a wonderful vacation and celebration of the New Year holidays 2023-2024! My family and I are very pleased with the start of our stay at Portnellan. From the beginning when Cameron met us and escorted us to our house (because it was very snowy and after a long journey from London we were tired, so we got a little lost) but we were greeted joyfully and everything was explained to make us feel comfortable! (Very nice people!) Very clean and tidy inside the house and everything is nice and clean outside! It is also very nice that, whenever we needed something, the owner Cameron helped very quickly! In general, everything is very nice and pleasant. The nature and impression of this area is a separate topic, I also really liked everything. We recommend to everyone who plans to go to Scotland, choose this place, and you will not regret it.

Had a wonderful, relaxing time at Portnellan, great base for exploring the Highlands. We stayed in the Pinemarten cabin which was nicely decorated and very comfortable. Everything you could need is supplied for a comfortable stay.

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park is a treasure trove of wildlife and natural beauty. While ospreys and red deer are often the stars of the show, this stunning area is home to a diverse range of creatures, including amphibians, reptiles, insects, and invertebrates. Exploring these smaller inhabitants can be an exciting adventure for families.
If you need a great place to visit while up in sunny Scotland, Loch Lomond is packed with adventure, great views and splendid family walks. If you want a boat trip or fancy hiring out a kayak, I recommend you do it the day before. Enjoy!

Awesome huge park area to explore. Lots of hiking paths along the lochside and into the grassy areas. Check out Balloch Castle. Terrific place for picnics, walking the dog or just breathing in the fresh Scottish air during a walkabout. Balloch Castle Country Park is one of the finest public spaces in the West of Scotland with fantastic views over Loch Lomond and plenty of things to see and do. The park itself comprises 200 acres of semi-natural and ornamental woodland, open parkland, formal gardens, meadow, play parks and shoreline. It is located directly on the south-east shores of Loch Lomond, on the northern edge of Balloch.

LookOut is a hidden gem located near the A84, north of Callander. To reach this viewpoint, follow the signs to Balquhidder and continue along the narrow road until you spot the stylish Monachyle Mhor hotel. Parking is available at the hotel, and from there, it's a short walk to the Mirror Box. Despite some challenges with finding parking and indications, LookOut offers breathtaking views of Loch Voil and provides a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the scenery.
I visited here during the late afternoon. It was a nice vibe with the sunray and the surrounding nature. Love it.
S K — Google review
Lookout looks like it's been taken down. A three mile single track road with extremely terrifying passing places leads to a field with magnificent views of the loch but no mirrored box. There's no signage to say it's been taken down either.
Debbie G — Google review
This was worth the 3 mile single road drive, a hidden gem and quite spectacular and it was a sunny day. I would recommend 👌
Donna S — Google review
The box is back and all new and shiny. Come visit, expect a shiny box in a field, be happy. (Good lord there's some serious negatives reviews for this! It's a shiny box in a field in a beautiful part of the world🤣) If you aren't impressed with the box here are some suggestions to improve your visit: 1. Paddle in loch (you have a choice of 2) 2. Look at mountains 3. Say hello to farm animals 4. Have lunch or coffee at Monachyle Mhor
Al R — Google review
This in is a bit of an oddity but well worth the effort! Other reviews point you to the correct postcode and website for this attraction which was really helpful. Parking is at the Hotel and is clearly signposted ( see pics) Turn left out of the hotel and then watch out for the 'mirrored box' sign. The box is situated down the pictured track and visible from the road if you look hard enough. The box was damaged when we visited but this didn't spoil the pics or views. As others have said, the single track road to get there is an adventure in itself and on the way back we dropped into Rob Roy's grave too (not literally) 🤣

Nestled in the stunning Scottish landscape, Loch Lomond Group has a rich history dating back to 1842 when the Bulloch family first delved into the Scotch Whisky trade. Over the years, they expanded their offerings to include whisky, gin, and vodka before acquiring the Loch Lomond Distillery in 1985.
Great service from the team at Loch Lomond Distillery. Promptly put through to Laura in the ecommerce section and she helped with an online order process. Great follow up comms too.

Nothing interesting there for the public, no tours or tasting. Their whiskies are mediocre.
MC C — Google review
Although it's a whisky that is making a name for itself the only downside to Loch Lomond whisky is it dosent have a visitor centre and tour.Their complex is industrial with plenty of land where ch they possibly could build one especially with the amount of tourists that head to this area. They also own Glen scotia whisky of Campbeltown and the rights to the now closed distillery Littlemill.
Barry H — Google review
Was lucky enough to be granted a tour by the great Michael Henry, master blender at Loch Lomond. Aside from completely turning the whisky from an afterthought to a top class product, Michael is a true gentleman. He provided us the greatest whisky tour possible while also guiding us through many of the new makes that this diverse distillery can produce. If you ever get the chance to tour Loch Lomond with Michael Henry jump at the chance.
Jimmy L — Google review
There's nothing here for the public. I think the opening times are for the offices, for staff, or whatever. But we drove around and there wasn't a shop or anything that looked a place the public could go to.

Very poor management, and worse conditions. In my opinion, the only reason these people haven't poisoned someone is because its alcohol they produce. The older warehouses are heavily contaminated, to the point that it is a health hazard. How environmental health haven't closed them down is baffling!

Duke's Pass, a renowned route from Aberfoyle into The Trossachs, is considered one of the best drives in Britain. Named after the Duke of Montrose, it offers sweeping curves and stunning views of lochs, woods, and hills. This historic road was once used by Rob Roy's cattle drovers and 19th-century tourists. It spans 5.7 miles and presents a thrilling challenge for motorcyclists with its tight bends.
Easter visit. So this is a must do road (A821) if your best friend is a motorcycle. I really enjoyed the challenge of driving it's 5.7 miles. Although I don't fancy it in snow and ice, there are warnings that some of the road is not treated in bad weather, you'll understand why. We started at Aberfoyle and went through to Ben Venue Car Park. There's a view point available with free parking and a picnic area if you want to take a break at the top and absorb the fabulous vista. This is available at Three Lochs Forest Drive. There is a charge for parking on entering the road to the lochs at the far end of the free parking area. It was naturally windy and cold on our visit, exactly as expected.
Willow T — Google review
Nice scenic drive in good weather. narrow in parts with many hairpin bends going up from Aberfoyle.
Ken H — Google review

Nikki P — Google review
Great drive! Very popular with cyclists.
Aly M — Google review
Out of season this was a deserted petrolhead paradise. Tight turns and hairpins for miles.
Luke S — Google review
It's a very windy road that has no signs to indicate just how tight and slow you should be going for some of the bends so be careful. It is also frequently used by cyclists with not many clear places to overtake. Fun for an experienced driver or motorcyclist on a clear quiet day but if you are not such a confident driver or any of your passengers suffer from car sickness at all then you should take the longer route from Kilmahog.
Joseph R — Google review
Nothing to see on that point in the road!! Need to go up to the lodge to see something...
Mercedes Z — Google review
Did this road on my old Norton Commando 2 years ago. Very twisty road with tight bends that keep you on your toes and just jump out in front of you. Don't rush and miss the scenery. stop in places to take in the view. Not easy to park in a car but some small pull ins for bikes to stop. Some of the bends have gravel in the middle of the road. If you fancy it GoApe along this road just outside of Aberfoyle have a very long zip wire ride.

Loch Lomond National Park Memorial offers a rocky beach with cold waters, but the enchanting landscapes make it feel like a fairy tale. A short walk from the parking lot leads to a cozy beach, perfect as a reward after descending Ben Lomond. The 23 km hike from Drymen to Rowardennan provides breathtaking views of Loch Lomond, and taking a dip in its clear waters is a trip highlight.
The second leg of our journey, from Drymen to Rowardennan, was a slightly longer 23 km hike, but the views of Loch Lomond were simply breathtaking. We were able to take a refreshing dip in the clear waters of the loch, which was a highlight of the trip.
