Yerbabuena del Sisal is a charming restaurant located in Valladolid, offering a tranquil dining experience across from the Spanish convent of Saint Bernard of Siena. The menu features Yucatec cuisine such as panuchos de cochinita pibil and red chilaquiles, along with vegetarian options and international dishes like burgers and lasagne.
Fantastic place with great vegetarian options. The host was super friendly and the food was unique and delicious. I personally would prefer if they went lighter in the cheese though.

Very good vegan food and excellent customer service. Recommend for vegan food. Mexican and pokebowl style.
Ryan T — Google review
It was a feel-good meal with a few great vegan options. All the staff were friendly, and the atmosphere was lovely. The complimentary mango served before the meal was such a thoughtful touch, and the drinks are served in handcrafted cups, adding a unique and charming touch. The flavors were fresh and vibrant — I’d definitely come back again. A wonderful spot for vegans and travelers alike!

This is my favorite restaurant in Valladolid. The food is absolutely delicious! There is a beautiful garden seating area, calm music, very friendly staff, and an expansive menu that caters to diverse palates and diets. My wife and I have been coming everyday and we are never disappointed. Yerbabuena is a true culinary gem and a must for any foodie.
Christopher H — Google review
Yay veggies! Yerba Buena was a refreshing change after the mostly-meat diet available everywhere else. We had enchiladas, vegetarian lasagne with salad, and mushroom pasta. The succulent pastas seemed to be home-made. Both the linguine and lasagna were truly excellent in texture and flavour.
Hein V — Google review
Edited to add that 4.5 years later I came back and the chilaquiles are still the best! Consistency across the board with flavor, presentation and service. 🙏🏼 Wow! I’ve been in Mexico for 3 months and between all the places I’ve had chilaquiles in various different states and cities, these are the best. This restaurant has a beautifully tranquil outdoor space, the staff is all genuinely friendly and warm and the food tastes good, is presented in a beautiful manner and it’s not overpriced. Good energy matters when cooking and I can tell whoever made my food has it. Muchas Gracias Yerbabuena!
Del C — Google review
Best cappuccino so far on our trip (all others have been too weak for these two Europeans!). The food is decently priced and delicious! So much flavor, and even my spouse who can’t handle spicy food loved his pork dish (he asked for the mole sauce on the side). I had the Yucatán chicken dish and it was incredibly flavorful. Handmade warm blue-corn tortillas on the side. The mole was delicious as well, but a tad on the spicy side even for my taste. Also tried the tamarind Agua fresqua which I’ve never tried before, refreshing but a little sweet (not too sweet, I assume it’s supposed to be a little sweet!). Facilities are clean as well, great restrooms, space between tables, cute decor, pleasant music playing in the background (nothing loud or annoying like in some other places). Also, not often mentioned, but they had sharp cutlery so you can actually cut your meat. This impressed my spouse who has been annoyed by the “butter knives” we’ve received at other places. Staff was super friendly and very efficient with food and getting the bill etc. They even have a little map where you can put a pin to say where you’re from! 10/10 would go back in a heartbeat. Perfect spot for lunch or breakfast.

Absolutely delicious! Great choice of fine and yummy food. Many vegetarian plates, wonderful breakfast, good juices and smoothies. Great coffee, nice garden and and and good service! We were there twice and were sad, that it already closes at 5pm…. Best restaurant in town!

La Palapita de los Tamales is a charming, family-owned restaurant near Candelaria church in Valladolid. The cozy dining room with big wooden tables leads to an outdoor terrace, creating a relaxed atmosphere. The menu features authentic Yucatan recipes, including the flavorful chachacua tamales and refreshing chaya-infused lemonade. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with a mix of lighting and nature, offering both indoor and garden seating options.
The food was really good and Rufino, the waiter, was really friendly. Carlos, who made our drinks, mixes very tasty cocktails that he invents themselves. I have never ordered so many cocktails in a row! Would definitely come back here!

We just had dinner at “La palomitas de los tamales” and I couldn’t be more satisfied! Great food, great atmosphere and even better service. We were waited by Carina that makes us feel like home, really lovely, funny and professional. If you’re heading to this place ask to be sever by her. Recommended for sure!

A Magical Place in Valladolid Upon arrival the reception was very attentive, the very smiling waitress gave us some recommendations of what to drink and eat, we chose some enchiladas and salbutes that were very delicious, the surprise of some courtesy tequilas and the way she gave us the explanation of how it is done was even more amazing, without a doubt we would return, a very beautiful place but the waitress was exceptional. Thank you very much for this beautiful experience.
Rouse V — Google review
Instantly upon entering the well curated atmosphere starts your experience off in style! Style firmly rooted in traditional aesthetics. The warm and friendly staff received us graciously and let us sit wherever we liked and we chose a spot in the beautiful back courtyard. Our server, KARINA, was so sweet and knowledgeable she not only did her job beautifully, but she felt like an instant friend! The food was a mind blowing balance of flavor and texture! We ordered more than we could possibly eat so we could try a variety of these superbly crafted traditional dishes! Portion size was excellent! And pricing is a very good value!
James D — Google review
We had dinner here twice and the food was truly delicious. The menu includes typical Yucatecan dishes and it’s also suitable for those with intolerances (in my case gluten and lactose), as you can choose dishes made with corn flour and without dairy. The prices are very reasonable considering the quality of the food and the service.

the tamal was very unique and different than the typical tamales you get in other parts of mexico. there is a vegetarian one with egg in it. it was yummy! i also got the chaya drink with lemon - super refreshing. the restaurant had open doors and no AC so it was a bit warm.

La Selva is a cozy restaurant situated in a tranquil and secure residential area just north of Valladolid's main plaza. Operating exclusively in the evenings, they specialize in serving antojitos, which are essentially Mexican street food snacks. These include an array of dishes such as tacos, panuchos, sopes, quesadillas, and salbutes. The venue attracts both locals and tourists alike and offers generous portions at reasonable prices.
This place was recommended to us by our Airbnb host, for us to try a more typical Yucatán cuisine. It was delicious and we really enjoyed our meals. It is hot but they have fans to help off set that. Food was very affordable and the Paloma was delish!
Colencia J — Google review
We went to eat there in September 2024, around closing time, so there weren’t many guests. The food came quite quick, it was good tasting, traditional, and the portions were big enough. The waiters were ok, nothing bad to say about them. There was also live music. What we didn’t like is that the space wasn’t that much cared for, it looked quite dirty and with old appliances.
Maria — Google review
Authentic mexican- yucatan cuisine! There was an English menu too! Sopa de Lima was very good! Panuchos and tostadas were our favourite! Pink colada was amazing!
Daffy D — Google review
We had several locals recommend it. Cash only. The prices are the cheapest you will find the panuchos and chalupas were really good. The guacamole was good but I don’t think it is haas avocado it’s a local avocado which is not as creamy. Dinner for two with beers was about 325 with the 100 peso guacamole. Bring mosquito repellent.
A. G — Google review
We came across this restaurant after driving around to get to know the town. The food was AMAZING! The service was GREAT! If you’re looking for authentic Yucatan food, I would highly recommend this sweet spot.
Vanessa G — Google review
This was a great culinary discovery. Such delicate little bites made of the same simple ingredients. We lived the albutes, panuchos and other things I can't even remember their names. But the Chaya de Piña was absolutely delicious and the perfect drink to accompany our meal. We ordered and reordered. I pillow out the phone and showed the. Pics from previous reviews and said "I want that". We all said, "one.. ahem... Two more por favor." At various times during our meal. It's been 4 hours since we got back from La Selva and I just can't stop thinking a bit going back.
David L — Google review
Quick service, fresh food. Really recommend sopa de Lima.
Piotr R — Google review
You should visit if you have a chance. The food was wonderful. The masa they used is unique. The lomitos was a wonderful filling in the empanada. The sopa was delightful and wonderful even on a hot, humid night. The chalupa was a mix of textures, soft potatoes inside with a crispy masa crust. Definitely have the agua fresca de Chaya, it’s refreshing and sweet from added pineapple. And bring cash.

Farmers Markets
Located just a few blocks from the city center, Mercado Municipal de Valladolid offers an authentic Mexican market experience and a glimpse into local life. The bustling market is filled with vendors selling everything from affordable clothing to fresh produce, spices, handicrafts, and flowers. Despite some reports of unpleasant odors, many visitors find the market vibrant and full of life.
I was fueling up at the petrol station opposite and I decided to have a look at this market. It was Sunday afternoon so some stall had already closed or were shutting down. The produce looks really good and there is another section with shoes, hats, trinkets and so on. I bought an Obsidian bracelet and massaging stone for a fraction of the price in the centre. Some of the people here are actually making the things that they are selling. Follow Calle 37 out of the centre and it is opposite the petrol station. It is not far.
Gordon B — Google review
Great vibes with an assortment of vendors selling fresh produce and hand crafted goods. Restroom costs MX$5 to use and was relatively sanitary. Worth a stop if you are in the area.
David W — Google review
Valladolid is one of the most beautiful cities in the Península and if you live in Yucatán is mandatory to visit it at least once in your life. There is a lot of regional food in the market of the city and you also can buy some local vegetables. Near the market, there is also a cenote but you can't access unless you pay. During my vacations last week I also visited the festival of Valladolid is not as big as Xmatkuil festival but it doesn't feel less enjoyable, there is a lot of things to see like the regional dances, during the winter is almost mandatory to wear warm clothes.
Edwin C — Google review
Good place for shopping souvenirs
Tatiana S — Google review
Nice little market. 1 of the buildings hosts the butchers and clothing. I'd avoid that build as the smell is not very pleasant. The other building hosts the veg and fruit. It is a newer building and much nicer to visit.
Nikko — Google review
Definitely worth visiting to see some authentic culture. If you’re a traveller like me, pick up some spices. Recommend: achiote, Mexican orégano, and dried peppers. I paid 10 Peso per bag.
Arthur S — Google review
This mercado is little bit off the beaten track, at the edge of town some 10 min walk from the cenote Zaci. It's housed in a beautiful arched colonial style edifice and it's very colorful inside. You'll find everything there - fruits, vegetables, meats, clothes and what I was most amazed with - homemade HOT sauces in so many different colors. I bought over 10 at less than 2$ a piece. Great place to soak local atmosphere and many local eateries around
Dejan B — Google review
Nice stop for ladies looking for souvenirs or fresh fruits and snacks. Colorful display of vegetables, flowers, and also fresh meats. Men would probably be wondering why you took them along. Nice stroll from the city center, about 1 mile. By the way, I always ask for permission before taking pics. Just do it.

Cash only! This is an amazing small family owned restaurant serving authentic Yukatan food. We tried the sausage (longaniza) and the pork (Lechon) and they came in big portion with a lot of vegetables. Their salsa is spicy but very delicious as well. Embrace the heat when you are sitting here enjoying authentic Mexican food in this beautiful town. Highly recommend!

Great place, great food in this typical familial restaurant! We've loved everything. The owner is cooking next to you with fresh ingredients. The drinks and the plates are huge, tasty, local..whaouh..we will come back as soon as possible!
Sushi M — Google review
Fabulously presented, wonderful tasting food served with a very friendly smile in an open faced diner with a palm roof, cute little decor touches like the hand carved pots for tortillas. We overdosed on the Chaya, for all that don’t know is a superfood that’s served as a delicious juice here in Mexico that comes in all different flavours. Some of the best breakfast you are going to find in town.
Joseph R — Google review
Authentic Mexican food full of flavour! The service is great and the prices are in bargain territory especially when you consider the quality of the ingredients! Beware that they do not serve alcohol, however they have a great variety of delicious fresh juice!
Grigoris G — Google review
We choosed it because of the reviews but after the food I would add only 1.5 star. Chicken was really dry, without any spicy, I asked onions (that was not served). Also they missed the fried bananas but when we complained they served immediately. Compare to the other Mexican restaurants it was really below our expectations
Dóra M — Google review
We had breakfast here. It was right next to our hotel and it was a gem. We had the eggs, Chaya and longaniza special. It came with homemade tortillas in this beautiful container, beans (some of the best I’ve ever had), yummy fried plantains, fruit (with honey and homemade granola) and tea. Quite a large portion which made both my husband and I very happy. I know eggs can just feel like eggs but with them the flavor was just was just so delicious with everything they made. The waitress was so kind. I highly recommend eating here! Note in picture: the plantains that come with the meal are on the plate with the eggs. We also ordered an extra order of plantains that didn’t come with the breakfast special.
Shauna P — Google review

IX CAT IK Tradicional Cocina Maya is a charming and rustic eatery located in Valladolid, offering authentic Maya cuisine in a homey atmosphere. The restaurant prides itself on using traditional recipes and cooking techniques passed down through generations. Dishes are beautifully presented and made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, some of which are grown in their own organic garden. The staff, all of Maya origin, adds to the authenticity of the experience.
Exquisite and authentic Mayan cuisine in a very nice setting, a bit off the center so best to have a car. Service is top notch with some traditional tomato and pumpkin seed spread freshly ground at your table, and hand made tortillas. Highly recommended.

IX CAT IK Tradicional Cocina Maya was hands down the best restaurant I visited in Mexico. The setting is beautiful and authentic, with an open kitchen and garden seating that adds to the experience. The Cochinita Pibil was incredibly tender, the chaya empanadas were full of flavor, and the shrimp in creamy ixcatik chili sauce was unforgettable. Fresh tortillas cooked over an open flame and warm, welcoming staff made it even more special. If you're in Valladolid, this place is an absolute must.
Warda S — Google review
Just a 10 min walk from our hotel, which was perfectly safe FYI. Amazing find, great staff who explain exactly what your eating, and the tradition behind it etc. Excellent flavors , food and cocktails. I had the chicken soup and the prawns which was cooked in a kind of cheese. Service was excellent. Great value! Highly recommend

We loved this restaurant! Would come back :) FYI- We were 8 and ordered a lot of food. I’ll start by saying that the dessert was one of the best I ever had - the helado de coco con dulce de fresa & mezcal. You need to order it We ordered a lot of food and all of us enjoyed it very much. Our favourites were Sopa de Lima, Papadzul & the Píibil plates. The service was amazing. Super friendly and helpful, by the end of the meal they even did a small workshop so we understood the spices they use and how their chocolate is made.

Carolin Cacao Cafe & Gelato is an absolute must-visit place according to general consensus. It boasts a stunning ambiance with both an aesthetically pleasing restaurant and a delightful garden. The staff members are incredibly friendly, accommodating, and generous. This establishment is particularly family-friendly as it has entertained young children during multiple visits. Patrons have enjoyed a tranquil breakfast experience while their kids had a fantastic time on the premises.
This may well be the one breakfast to rule them all! Fresh healthy selections both traditional and contemporary. They have a range of different Mexican espresso beans and I highly recommend the espresso trio that showcases the subtle and not-so subtle differences in flavor! On top of that because I am a confirmed Coffey addict. I had their darkest chocolate Mocha with a couple shots of espresso. Para La Comida, I had the green omelette beautifully delivered with a hearty mix of Chaya onion other vegetables and Oaxaca cheese! The “energy ball“ is a delicious bit of hippyness that was a delight! My girlfriend had the vegetarian quesadillas with a side of eggs and it too was perfection. The staff is lovely and the diners were a mix of local and tourist. Always nice to see people from here eating here. I sit here sipping the last bit of my mocha and I’m about to go check out their lovely garden gardens and meet their pet pugs! An absolute must-go when in Valladolid!

This place did not disappoint. Everything was phenomenal. My oatmeal chia fruit bowl, the Valladolid omelette and the chai frappe were my favorites. Awesome service, quaint patio, live music. Expectations were exceeded. And after our meal, they gave us a cute little tourist guide and map.

Really enjoyed it. Sweet beverage and tasty food. Strong coffee. Nice ambient and friendly service. Bonus: You can pet any of the street dogs that are aloud to shelter from the Valladolid sun.

One of the nicest looking cafes and the owner is SO KIND, bless her soul! She made our experience much better. I would 100% recommend the place if you’re visiting the city. Seats are limited so get there early! Honestly nothing negative to say except for the matcha, it tasted a bit like powdered milk.

Very nice breakfast/brunch spot. Cozy terrace near their botanical garden. Lot’s of healthy options. Food was excellent quality and portions were also more than enough, we will be coming back here!

Let’s talk about this beautiful little cafe! First off it’s beautiful inside and out and there’s even a garden for you to visit after you eat. The owner is at the restaurant working with the employees greeting everyone and offering you suggestions off the menu she created. The attention from everyone here was amazing. Now the drinks WOW! coffees were delicious and strong we also had some natural juices that tasted fresh. The food was the show stopper though flavorful and presented beautifully. After you eat they even give you a list of things to do in their city that they recommend. 10/10 highly recommended you stop by here!

Le Kaat is a charming vegetarian and vegan restaurant located in Valladolid, Mexico. This cozy spot offers an extensive menu that caters to those with dietary restrictions or preferences, featuring everything from coffee to burgers and avocado pies. One of the highlights is the 'taco trilogy,' which puts a vegan spin on beloved Mexican classics like Cochinita Pibil, Pastor, and Barbacoa tacos.
This might be the best vegetarian restaurant in Valladolid! For being attached to a hotel, it is very reasonably priced. I came here 6 times during my stay in Valladolid and every time I left satisfied but also wanting to come back and try more. Everything was delicious but I think my favorite has to be the tacos, I could not believe it wasn’t real meat! They have a very sweet guitarist who seems to know unlimited songs coming in the evenings toward the end of the week, who is not pushy about tips like they are in some places. My only regret is not coming back more to try everything on the menu!
Mairead R — Google review
Cool restaurant with extensive vegan menu! We loved all the meals we ordered: rainbow bowl, falafel bowl, avocado/ walnut smoothie, tacos (super delicious). The service was great: polite and friendly. Highly recommend.
Tatsiana N — Google review
Atmosphere and service were fantastic! A live musician accompanied our night. Sadly, the food didn’t really match our taste. We had high expectations because everything on the menu sounded fantastic but ultimately, we didn’t enjoy our dishes as much as we’d hoped (smoked mushrooms + cauliflower). The vegan tacos and avocado cake were great though!
Lena B — Google review
Beautiful, tasty, healthy food. We were here Christmas Eve and just had to go back when we were in town again in September. We were happily surprised to see the same talented guitarist playing as on our first visit. Food is tasty and elegantly presented. Drinks were amazing. Our server did a great job. Lovely garden courtyard setting. Will go back gladly next time we’re in town!

We stopped here for a quick lunch before departing Valladolid, and it was a wonderful choice. Every dish was full of flavor, each paired with a unique and delicious sauce. The food was light yet satisfying, leaving us perfectly content. To top it all off, the lovely garden setting made the experience even more enjoyable. A great spot for a delightful meal!

Fabulous food: fresh, clean, great combinations, and especially Veg and Vegan ONLY. Visit. It will not disappoint. Reasonably priced too.

We stumbled across this little gem of a place on our first night in Valladolid and what a find it was. Food was amazing (guacamole to start and the curry). Service was brilliant and the workers were so friendly and smiley! When we were here, there was the most amazing guitar player. We sat sipping wine listening to him for over an hour and it was one of our favourite nights on our México travels! We bumped into the owner before we left, and he was incredibly kind and warm. Gave us recommendations for Valladolid. We loved it here ❤️

Was such a nice place that we came here for both dinner and breakfast! Many vegan options for both dinner and breakfast, all well thought through. Very nice atmosphere and there were always people there when we passed by (which I see as a good grade). Super friendly and engaging staff. We were also lucky to go there for dinner when they had a musician performing both Mexican and international hits with his guitar, which was a romantic bonus. Lovely little outdoor seating area, but as the restaurant is open towards the road with no clear door to close it was no problem to sit “inside” either. Very good food too, also appreciated by my non-vegan or vegetarian husband (even though it could - as most places we went to in Mexico - need some more seasoning to really bring out the flavours of their fantastic produces). Also appreciated that they had vegan desserts, as that is not that easy to get in many other restaurants. Would definitely return!

Restaurant
Loncheria Olich is a casual restaurant in Valladolid known for its affordable and freshly made local dishes, particularly the Sopa de Lima. The dining area has a cool vibe, and the staff is friendly with quick food service. Customers can enjoy delicious meals like chicken sopes and tacos de lomitas, along with refreshing drinks such as lemonade and agua de pepino with lime. The location is central, and visitors appreciate the charming ambiance.
A cosy and warm family run restaurant. This establishment was recommended to me by a number of locals and it was for good reason because the food is delicious - simple, generously portion sized homestyle meals. Service is incredibly prompt and the outdoor seating area is clean and well decorated. I arrived when it opened and it quickly filled up! I had the Caldo Especial (95 pesos) and it was perfect when feeling like you want something simple and not greasy.

Very good food, comparably cheap to the other good restaurants in the city, good service and friendly staff! I recommend the sopa de lima and if you’re very hungry, just get one of everything of those hand bites. That’s what I did and I got so stuffed afterwards (had an empanada, a taco and one of the sopes)

Really nice place to have dinner. We had guacamole, sopes, tortas and sopas. Everything was very tasty and at a very reasonable price. The atmosphere was great. I'd highly recomend this place.

Food was quite good. Agua Fresca Jamaica was amazing.

The place was recommended to me by a local guy. I ate there several times during my stay in Valladolid because the food was good and priced honestly. It looks like a family run business in, what appears to be, a working home. The menu isn't extensive but everything is good.

We came to this place to have a dinner. The place opens at certain our, i think 6pm, in the evening and We came right to that time. We were not the only ones waiting. Once the place opened, We took a table inside. We ordered a selection of different tacos (totally 8) and a large fruity drink. The food arrived in 10-15 minutes. Everything was fresh and tasty, very authentic and local. The prices are very friendly, we paid around 170 pesos for everything. We could only pay in cash. The waiters couldn’t speak English, but we could understand each other with our basic Spanish. The interior is very cozy: lights, plants, comfortable furniture. The tables for example are made of old Singer sewing machines.

This place is so good we ate here twice in 12 hours. When we thought the menu couldn't get any better, we returned for the breakfast and it did not disappoint. Tried our first horchata which we loved, every panuchos taco and tostada that came was superb. The motuleños and rancheros for breakfast was also delicious and filling. This is the absolute best value for money restaurant I think we've ever been to - not only that but it is a must visit for all.

Incredible food at this spot. We were recommended to come here by several locals and we were not disappointed. The panuchos were absolutely delicious, I had them three nights in a row. The sopa de lima, enchiladas and salbutes were also favourites. The top item on the menu was the torpanucho… a panucho IN a torta. WOW, comfort food to the max.

Taberna de los Frailes is a charming restaurant with a tranquil garden and a covered area under a thatched roof, providing an ideal setting for alfresco dining. The menu features an extensive selection of regional dishes and Mexican wines. Guests can enjoy the picturesque views of the Convent of San Bernardino de Siena while being served by friendly and attentive staff. It's the perfect spot to savor a delightful meal in a relaxed atmosphere.
