The burgers are delicious but the fries are (as is almost always the case in Germany) problematic. I asked the friendly waitress that they are prepared with less salt and they were quite salty (I don't want to think what they would taste like had I not asked). I opted for the sweet potatoes because I thought they are impossible to industrialise. Alas, they are pre packaged potatoes fried in deep oil. I yearn for the day restaurants in Germany will serve freshly cut and nutritious potatoes just as they do in many other countries but as I only have 25 to 35 years left to live it probably won't happen in my lifetime.

The Kartoffelhaus restaurant was warmly recommended to me by my hotel receptionist. Having browsed their website it states they don't use convenience (aka industrial) products so encouraged by the positive reviews I had to try it out. I was lucky to find a table by the window on a Sunday (probably because it was rainy and in the late afternoon). The chairs at the table are ancient and probably belong in the city's museum because they make unpleasant noises at the slightest movement. The potato 🥔 soup was extremely salty so I returned it to the kitchen. The kind waitresses (I found the service on both visits to be overall superb) took it off the bill without me asking which was a nice gesture. The chicken with potato spätzle and rich cream was delicious but the only vegetable in it was canned mushrooms. It is the end of May and this region has fantastic fresh mushrooms that are also cheap at the farmer's market. That they don't use them says more about the average profile of their customers than it says about them. The kaiserschmarnn with cherries 🍒was a mixed experience. It was a very generous portion and the cherries were delicious but the rest was very dry and uninspiring. It was edible but not remotely resembling the rich and buttery kaiserschmarnn I used to eat as a child on skiing trips in Kitzbühl, Austria 🇦🇹 Today I was the first customer a few minutes before 11 am. I ordered a rump steak and a jacket potato with herb butter. The steak was a fairly good quality piece of meat but it was grilled yesterday and only slightly warmed. I had a runny bowl at 15:30 today possibly a result of the steak kept at room temperature for many hours but I also drank two coffees and ate a cake 🍰 in a cafe in town so I will give the Kartoffelhaus the benefit of the doubt. It had a lot of salt granules over it. Luckily it was not covered in a sauce because the latter would probably have been so salty it would render the steak inedible. The jacket potato was tasty but the butter is not great. The amount of herb butter on the table must have been over 250 grams which is an amount even five people would struggle with let alone one. I would much prefer lesser quantity and higher quality butter. Whatever happened to the German saying "Weniger ist mehr"? It is a question I will leave you to ponder on but as for me I will stick to eating only Asian food when in Germany because the age of culinary miracles here seems to have ended sometime in the late 20th century.

I visited here with my dad on a day out, the staff were very friendly and accommodating, as we didnt speak german, and helpers us out when we needed it. Their potatoes (which they said were Wittenbergs specialty) lived up to the expectations and were delicious! I had the smoked pork, sauerkraut and potato noodles which were divine. And my dad got the herring salad. the bill came to under 50 euros for 2 huge main meals, a side, 2 beers, 2 soft drinks and a coffee. If that’s not value I don’t do now what is!

During weekend we received table for two without any problems and without any booking before. There is really many space inside and it’s very good that they keep enough distance between tables. Unfortunately I was much disappointed seeing in menu Carbonara with ham (Schinken) and in cream (Sahne) sauce. Who adds ham to Carbonara?! Where is PANCETTA?! Finally we decided for other spaghetti and it was really good choice. Spaghetti with mussels is really rich and tasty. Pasta was cooked very good and sauce was very delicious. Although You can’t find here one of the most famous italian traditional carbonara, I can reccomend this restaurant for other very good italian dishes. Prices are acceptable as for restaurant in strict city center.

Worst stake I ever ate. Cold and raw, fire barely touched it hours ago. I ordered medium, not even close. However, other items on menu seams to be better. Two stars for location only, seams to be a nice cozy setting in the middle of ancient Wittenberg.

First of all, the dish looked beautiful. But the combination of veggies and food was not the best. (I ate an Wiener schnitzel) which tasted great overall. But also the employees weren’t the best at English, but atleast they could understand what I wanted. The knife was very slippery, it slipped off my plate at least 6 times.
