Magdeburg Cathedral, the oldest Gothic cathedral in Germany, is a must-see landmark in the charming city of Magdeburg. The Protestant place of worship was completed in 1520 and boasts a stunning late Romanesque-Gothic style with Renaissance sculptures and carvings. It defines the city's skyline and houses a vast collection of paintings and sculptures from different eras.
The Magdeburg Cathedral, officially known as the Cathedral of Saints Catherine and Maurice, is a true gem of Gothic architecture and one of the most remarkable landmarks in eastern Germany. Rising majestically in the heart of Magdeburg, its soaring towers and detailed stonework make it an unforgettable sight even from a distance. But beyond its architectural brilliance lies a serene and deeply spiritual atmosphere that captivates all who enter. Walking through its grand doors, you’re immediately surrounded by silence and awe. The vast interior, with its high vaulted ceilings, towering columns, and colorful stained-glass windows, creates a sense of reverence and peace. Light streams softly through the windows, painting the ancient stone with hues of red, blue, and gold. The silence is not empty, but full a space where one can reflect, pray, or simply breathe in the beauty of the sacred. The cathedral is not only a place of worship but also a historical monument. It holds the tomb of Emperor Otto I, the first Holy Roman Emperor, adding a layer of imperial history to its spiritual depth. Each sculpture, altar, and corner tells a story, connecting visitors to centuries of faith, art, and culture. Outside, the cathedral’s grounds offer equally peaceful surroundings, perfect for a quiet stroll or a moment of contemplation. Whether you’re drawn by faith, history, or an appreciation for art and architecture, the Magdeburg Cathedral offers a soul stirring experience. It stands as a reminder of the power of human creativity and spiritual devotion, a place where past and present, heaven and earth, beautifully meet.

Pretty church, the time we come in just has people speech, and then the organ play music. This area rear has Asia people, they speak Germany for sure, so I can’t really understand inside cultural relics. Plus you have to pay 2 euro if you want to take photos, so I put my cell phone ( translator) in bag. Buy post cards instead.

Magdeburg is a charming city with a rich history and a pleasant atmosphere for visitors. Known for its impressive Gothic Magdeburg Cathedral (Dom zu Magdeburg), it’s a must-visit for anyone interested in architecture and history. The Elbe River adds a serene vibe to the city, perfect for riverside walks. The city combines medieval charm with modern amenities, offering great parks like the Elbauenpark and cultural sites such as the Jahrtausendturm. It’s not too crowded, making it an ideal destination for a peaceful yet enriching experience in Germany.
Rodrigo M — Google review
No tickets for entering but if you want to take photo there is a 2 euro fee.
Marcin B — Google review
If you’re a history fan, you’re going to love this place. The stories about the history of the cathedral itself and King Otto are interesting. But for those who are more amazed by architectures, not really a bucket-list material. But I guess you’ll drop by because this is the no.1 sightseeing spot in Magdeburg. Oh by the way, it’s two euros to take photos inside. I would consider this as a donation to maintain this robust structure. Enjoy!
Ji L — Google review
Gorgeous. A fun fact: The Magdeburger Dom is the oldest gothic cathedral in all of Germany!!! The people here are incredibly kind. And the outside is just as beautiful as the inside. I highly recommend taking some time to walk in a circle around the entire complex; you will thank me later!!! :)
Nick — Google review
The place is really good. There are two nearby houses on which vines and Ivy has grown which looks really amazing. The Elbe river is just 100 meter's from this Cathedral. One can walk along the bank of the Elbe river too. There are many nearby good restaurants too and the tram station is near too. One can reach the Cathedral within 10 minutes from the nearest tram station.
Madhu S — Google review
Huge. Dark. Impressive. Beautiful. A must-see when visiting Magdeburg. The high towers are a landmark that can be seen from far away already. Go inside and get lost beneath the perfectly crafted gothic construction which reaches high up into the sky. If you get lucky you might be hearing the organist doing some rehearsals.

Elbauenpark is a stunning 104-hectare nature park nestled in the heart of Magdeburg, often celebrated as the city's green lungs. This vibrant oasis offers an array of attractions that cater to families and nature enthusiasts alike. Visitors can explore beautifully designed gardens, engaging playgrounds, and educational paths that promote environmental awareness among younger guests.
It's an absolutely lovely park. The best vacation destination with a serene setting. It's suitable for both walking and jogging. Come in the evening to find serenity. The presence of trees and birds creates a peaceful and calm setting. 😎.
VIRAL A — Google review
A nice park to visit. It's relatively wheelchair friendly. The bridge over the road might be too steep for some. There's a very steep slope in the back of the butterfly house (which is very nice), my power wheelchair couldn't do it. If you want to avoid the slope, turn around when the path next to the fish pond goes down. The tower is not accessible. Only the ground floor can be visited. I had not read on the website, that a part of the exhibition was about ancient Egypt. Nice surprise, as I'm interested in Egyptology. We visited the park with two teenagers. The Toboggan run was their favorite (€ 2,50 p.p). We didn't have enough time to see everything in an afternoon, the park is large. It didn't help that people turned signs with arrows around because they easily could.
M D — Google review
The park is quite large, and there’s a lot of walking involved unless you take the train. Since it was raining, not all the children’s attractions were open (the trampoline park, for example, requires a separate fee). On the grounds, there is the Jahrtausendturm, which involved a good climb to the top, and then we came down through the inside. We explored the most important points in human history. The exhibition is very impressive and educational for children as well. We spent about 2 hours in the tower. The butterfly house is at the other end of the park, and it was fascinating to see the different butterflies there. The kids didn’t get bored and are already eager to come back. We walked about 7.5 km.
Rainis K — Google review
Absolutely calm, wonderful place to visit and specially on sunny days. The park is clean and well maintained. The Millennium Tower is a huge testament to historical events and a eye-catching sight. Although I've visited when most of the facilities were closed/limited due to restrictions, I can imagine this place being lively and beaming with people in normal times. Definitely worth a fun day with family/friends.
Shubhankar V — Google review
Excellent for family or couples, picnics, day out or just a stroll. Children enjoy the slides and play area. Bigger children might find museum interesting.
Asim R — Google review
The entrance ticket is pretty cheap. With a student ID, you can buy the discount one day ticket for €5,50 or a green ticket for €3,00. I do recommend buying the one day ticket, where you can enjoy the top view of the millennium tower as well as other exhibitions. Most important of all, you can ride the park express and enjoy the park itself ❤️
Elizabeth S — Google review
Very big and nice park with lots to do! For 9€ you can go to butterfly house, museum and explore stuff in the park: maze, animals, roses, playgrounds and more. We’re 25/26 y.o. and had so much fun!!
Romy C — Google review
Our main destination of this trip. The park is beautiful but we took 1 hour to find the right entrance, and we weren’t the only family lost, we were 3 families trying to get into the park. A rainy Sunday where you couldn’t find a coffee or any place to eat. We had to leave the park to go to lunch, loosing the option we paid to visit the butterfly house because the staff said is only one time use ticket. Really disappointed

Nestled in the heart of Magdeburg, the Green Citadel stands as a testament to the visionary creativity of Austrian artist and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser. This whimsical building, located just a short stroll from key landmarks like the state parliament and Cathedral Square, showcases Hundertwasser's signature style both inside and out. Visitors can explore its vibrant courtyards, dine at delightful restaurants or cafes, and browse through various shops.
A nice building complex with a couple of restaurants inside. There are more than two entrances and they sell crazy good ice cream 🙂
Sofía G — Google review
A truly unique architectural gem in Magdeburg, designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser and completed in 2005, shortly after his death. The building breaks away from conventional architecture with its irregular forms and rooftop gardens. While visually striking, the interior spaces—especially the shops and hotel—could benefit from more curated content that reflects Hundertwasser’s philosophy. In many ways, it feels like a cousin to Gaudí’s works in Barcelona, though on a much smaller and more commercial scale.
Mousa M — Google review
It’s a very special building, several shops, cofe shop on the first floor. If you want to go to the top, have to buy ticket at information place and people bring you inside every hour. We don’t have time this trip, but only the ground floor, very interesting shops a lot!
Lily C — Google review
What a beautiful building! Walked around the outside and went into the inside gardens. Stunning!
Guðrún F — Google review
Amazing building that despite its weirdness fits amazingly well in to the historic buildings nearby. A coincidence seeing it as we more or less stumbled across it while stopping in Magdeburg for lunch. It is well worth a detour if you're not to far away.
Rita O — Google review
A beautiful architectural masterpiece by Hundertwasser. Fascinating, unique, something you have to see. Variety of shapes. Use the tour with a guide to get complete information. Nice cafe and shops.

Special architecture - on the fridge magnets found in souvenir shops. Possible to go around and into the courtyard.

We took the tour (which was almost hourly during the weekend) which was surprisingly interesting. We learned a lot of cool and interesting facts about Hundertwasser and got to explore the different rooftop areas of the building. The Japanese restaurant on the ground floor is also worth a stop :)

The Jahrtausendturm, a striking cone-shaped structure located in Elbauenpark, stands tall at 60 meters and is celebrated as one of the tallest wooden buildings globally. This architectural marvel was constructed to mark the new millennium and features a unique exterior ramp leading to an observation platform. Inside, visitors can embark on a fascinating journey through time across five floors, exploring 6,000 years of scientific advancement—from Ancient Egyptian mathematics to Medieval medicine and Renaissance inventions like the telescope.
This is an educational trip , even for an couple like us . There is alot to be learnt in the sciences. Theories and simple examples for one to understand them and put to effect. It's also very educational for the kids . Take note that if you plan to visit this sight we would suggest that you use public transport as its easily accessible that way as parking lots are quite a distance away .
Edward R — Google review
I should warn you that this place hooks you in soon as you enter the door. The building is interesting looking but the real magic are the history lessons that you learn and also get to test them out. I don't want to give it away but it's worth more than how much pay. Suitable for both adults and children alike. I would recommend it fully.
Carl — Google review
The tallest wooden building in Europe. I bought the ticket to enter the park, and took the electric car to get there. A beautiful scene can be seen from the top, which is reached after climbing 243 steps or 450 meters on the exterior ramp. This 60-meter-tall structure in the Elbauenpark is shaped like an unusual cone. The Jahrtausendturm's interior is home to an exhibition that spans five floors and 6,000 years of human history, tracing the evolution of science. With each new level, you will advance through history, beginning with Ancient Egyptian mathematics and continuing through Medieval medicine, Renaissance mechanics and alchemy, and modern inventions like the telescope and printing press.
Linh P — Google review
Nice science museum with hands on experiments and a great view from the top.
Martin B — Google review
It's very nice for a visit but difficult to get to. You need to enter the Elbauenpark and walk for a while to get here, so it's a good idea to combine this with other activities in the park.
Nielsa S — Google review
The museum is really great, interactive and interesting. The bag part..We went in a Sunday rainy day and the museum was very cold and there was no place to have a coffee. Freezing
Ma B — Google review
It's a wonderful wooden architecture with the inside showcasing the history of science and civilizations. A must visit place!
TASNUBA T — Google review
Good place to visit but google map doesn’t show correct way to enter it!! The entrance is too far from what google map shows!!! Shaped like an irregular cone, this edifice in the Elbauenpark was built for the new millennium and at 60 metres high is one of the tallest wooden buildings in the world. Inside, on five floors the Jahrtausendturm has an exhibition chronicling the development of science across 6,000 years of human history. With each new level you’ll jump forward in time, starting on the ground floor with Ancient Egyptian mathematics, and moving through Medieval medicine, Renaissance mechanics and alchemy and inventions like the telescope and printing press. The fourth floor shows all the discoveries of the Early Modern Age, like electricity, stellar parallax, radio, while the fifth is about science in the 21st century. At the top, after 243 steps or 450 metres on the exterior ramp there’s a scenic viewpoint.

Nestled in the heart of Saxony-Anhalt, Zoo Magdeburg is a delightful family destination that has been captivating visitors since its inception in 1950. Spanning an impressive 16 hectares, this well-maintained zoo showcases over 200 species of animals, including rare and exotic creatures. One of its standout features is the Madagascar house and a charming penguin enclosure that adds to the allure.
Great place to see (not only) with children. Parking 4€ per 24hours paid at the ticket office.

This is a fantastic Zoo. It is way bigger than you would think. A lot of animals to see here. It is clean and a good time for families and friends. The dholes were especially cute. And we could basically sit directly next to the Tiger (glass between of course). Would recommend 11/10.
Hagen H — Google review
A fantastic ZOO in the corner of Magdeburg. Very clean and nice looking. On every alley there is something to see. You can see here a lot of diffrent animals. Elephants, tiger, lions, pinguins, a LOT of birds, squirells, wild cats, hyenas, etc. Really nice place to visit. In October 2024 cost of normal ticket was 18,50e. Big Parking near Zoo entrance for 4e (all day). In ZOO You can find toilets and a restaurant. If You want to see everything You need around 3 to 5 hours depends on how fast You walk. Really nice ZOO!
Bart S — Google review
Small zoo but packed with plenty of animals kids will want to see. (Lions, Tigers, Hippo, Rhino, Giraffe, Elephant etc.) Perfect with small kids as it can be completed in approx. 1.5-2 hours.
Luke S — Google review
This is a small zoo. However, they have a good collection of animals, and there are several facilities for wild birds. The zoo is surrounded by a natural park where you can travel free of cost. However, to see the animal section, you must have to pay some penny. Currently, the general cost is around 10 to 18 euros per person. It can vary.
Efaz A — Google review
I really enjoyed visiting this zoo! Beautiful view, lot of animals, bathrooms all over the place (that's an advantage) restaurant available! You can even get a closer view to some animals into their cages, that was awesome! I highly recommend it!
Jacqueline E — Google review
Animals have small cots and paddocks. It was sad to see some animals just run in circles as they simply don’t have space. I believe that animals are taken care of well enough as all of them look healthy, active and all. Wish they had more space. Overall, the zoo is good: accessible, has goats to pet, and very green. In the summer/spring it should be much better
Evgeny ( — Google review
I was impressed about the place. So many animals and birds, a lot to see. Also, there are interactive ways to see the animals. You can spend all day here and not get bored. I recommend it especially for families.

I visited there in weekdays. Everthing was great but want to emphasize one thing: The person at the information center/cashier was really good at its job, happy and smiley and really helpful. Provide me a book in english for whole museum even i did not ask for that. Moreover, he just ran away after me to forwarded me to the best route to visit the excursions. Thanks a lot!

A nice museum with the negative of no English option in the exhibits. But the men in the entrance(cashier) is the most friendly German person i met really helpful and friendly with no problem to speak in english(unusual for the area)and willing not only to explain you everything but to explain you and for the other museums you want to see.Really the right person to the right position. Unfortunate i forgot to ask his name but when you enter in the museum you will recognise him from his kind and worm smile. So five stars for this men and four stars for the museum.Don't miss out the exhibition of Alwines dolls.

The Magdeburg Water Bridge is a remarkable feat of engineering that spans 918 meters, linking two vital canals in Germany: the Elbe-Havel Canal and the Mittelland Canal. Completed in October 2003, this navigable aqueduct allows large vessels to traverse over the Elbe River without needing to adjust their elevation. Located near Magdeburg, it serves as a picturesque spot for visitors who can stroll or bike along its paths while enjoying views of passing ships.
Magdeburg water bridge is one of the top tourist attraction spot which is just located outside of city but there is a highway links to Berlin. You can access the bridge on foot or by bicycle. It’s quite long and accessible from both side. The scenic beauty of the river over river something mesmeric. The bridge is a great example of Mechanical Engineering. There is a option of enjoying the sights by reserving cruize.
Rayhan K — Google review
Great destination near Magdeburg. Perfect for walking or cycling. The canal bridge is easily accessible by bike. You can cycle along a beautiful path which leads you through forests and fields along the river for about 10-15km. There is also adjacent parking for those who prefer to come by car.
Kat K — Google review
Another feat of human engineering. There's free parking available on the east of the river Elbe, on the southern part, and it's a short walk away to the bridge itself. The bridge has wide footpaths for walking and cycling along the water bridge. Also worth going under the bridge and admire the construction.

Nestled in the heart of Magdeburg, the Kunstmuseum Magdeburg - Kloster Unser Lieben Frauen is a captivating fusion of history and contemporary art. Housed within an 11th-century Romanesque monastery, this museum showcases an impressive array of artworks that span from ancient sculptures to modern installations.
This museum is very good value for money, with three floors with different themes and temporary exhibitions, also the basement with medieval objects. The cloisters are beautiful and the former chapel is huge, with a temporary installation.

The art museum is situated in an old monastery and still has the cloisters available to walk around. The art itself is in a 3 storey building attached to the monastery and covers medieval art as well as more modern art. The building is clean and staff are attentive and the setting is superb, with high ceilings and large windows. A lot of the modern art I didn't really appreciate but the setting was still wonderful. 8 euros entry fee and we spent about an hour in both the cloisters and gallery.

I am not a big fan of modern art, but I like the idea of art museum in a nunnery. The nunnery itself is beautiful. I find some art works beautiful too. But it can be worth going through the museum with a guide or an audio guide.

If it was possible we would give 0 stars. There were no visitors, just us. They made us put bags in the lockers (we were in Louvre with the same bags and they were permitted there) but it is understandable - it’s their policy. When we informed the lady about it, she was extremely rude and said that she didn’t care about our opinion.
Kaira G — Google review
I only visited from the outside, but it's an impactful and very old building and they make it more so by having an extensive history and model available on the grounds so visitors can have a glimpse into the past of both this monastery and also the city of Magdeburg.

St. John's Church, also known as Johanniskirche, is a historic Lutheran church in Magdeburg, Germany. It boasts stunning Gothic architecture and has a rich history dating back to the 10th century. Despite being damaged and destroyed multiple times by fires and wars, the resilient church still stands today.
St. John Church was damaged during the world wars. Now you may find the church partially restored and rebuilt, used mainly as a venue for business and cultural events. The inside space is huge and it also offers backoffice areas. You can climb up to the top of the church on your own, no elevators. The lookout offers astonishing views at the Magdeburg city, both at night and throughout a day.

Beautiful building, once church, now “just” a venue for concerts. It was stroke with bad luck so many times in past (worth looking up the info on the Internet) that it was decided not to try to keep a holy building at this place. Interesting architecture makes it worth a visit though.
Ddur77 — Google review
Funded by the city’s merchants around the 10th century, the Johanniskirche is no longer a consecrated church, and is instead used as a concert hall, museum and convention centre. In 2014, from January to June it was also where Saxony-Anhalt’s State Parliament met. The Johanniskirche has been destroyed and rebuilt no fewer than four times: Twice after Medieval fires, then again after being sacked during the Thirty Years’ War in the 17th century and finally after the Second World War. You can go in any day of the week except Monday and see how the nave has been turned into an impressive open space. There’s also an observation platform at 52 metres after 277 steps to the top of the south tower.

Johanniskirche in the Old Town of Magdeburg. Saint Jean's church now hosts many events, but we do not know the date of construction; it was mentioned for the first time in 1170. This monument was destroyed four times between 1207 and 1945, then restored each time. Martin Luther preached here on 26the June 1524, after which Magdeburg became a Protestant town. From the top of the 60m-high south tower, there is a fine panoramic view over Magdeburg. For more information and other image

(Translated by Google) I think the museum is far too little visited. On the day I was there, the museum employee took a lot of time for me. He showed me almost all of the experiments and carried them out with me. He also talked to me at length and in detail (far beyond the scope of the exhibition) about Otto von Guericke himself, but also about his experiments, his work, exhibits, the museum itself and Magdeburg. You know that the museum is run with heart and everything one can give. The museum employee was always attentive, very charismatic and explained many of Guericke's experiments to me in such a beautifully vivid way. In my opinion, every Magdeburg resident and every tourist should go there at least once; it's very sad that fewer and fewer people are interested in culture in general, but also in the culture of their city. I would definitely recommend it; anyone who has never been there has missed out on a lot.

I recently had the opportunity to dine at Qilin, a popular Asian restaurant in Magdeburg, Germany. I ordered the Bibimbap Beef Bowl, and I was very impressed. The dish arrived in a traditional stone bowl, which was still hot and sizzling. The rice was perfectly cooked, and the beef was tender and flavorful. It was topped with a variety of vegetables, including kimchi, carrots, zucchini, and bean sprouts. A fried egg sat in the center of the bowl. I mixed everything together and took a bite. The flavors were incredible. The kimchi was spicy and tangy, the vegetables were crisp and fresh, and the beef was perfectly seasoned. The fried egg added a richness and creaminess to the dish. The portion size was generous, and I was easily able to finish the entire bowl. I was also impressed with the service at Qilin. The staff was friendly and attentive, and they made sure that I had a pleasant dining experience. Overall, I highly recommend the Bibimbap Beef Bowl at Qilin. Between Breiter Weg and Jakobstraße, the city’s marketplace has existed since the time of Bishop Wichmann von Seeburg in the 12th century. This square was hard-hit, first in the Thirty Years War’ and then in the Second World War, and most of the buildings on its margins are now modern. But on the eastern end is the newly refurbished town hall, which has been on this plot in some form since the 13th century. In front is the Roland statue, an ever-present on German town squares, and representing Magdeburg’s independence. The main reason you’ll find yourself on Alter Markt is for the market stalls, trading seasonal fruit and vegetables, meat, dairy, baked goods, homewares, handicrafts and freshly made snacks.

Food is excellent. Beautifully arranged on plate, fresh and delicious. We had asparagus with Hollandaise, the salmon with potato cake and the foil potato with chicken - it was really really good - service aldo very swift, friendly and with a good portion of humour - lovely experience - would always go back for more! Location also fabulous right next to river Elbe. 5 stars!!!

It is a nice building and the halls are quite big. The Theatre Magdeburg also has an awesome an actively fostered youth. They even put up some productions you can see in the Opernhaus and in the Schauspielhaus. The ambient in the Opernhaus here is really nice and it is affordable to get a ticket. The Rothensee boat lift is a crucial part of the waterway system in Germany, allowing ships to move between the Mittelland Canal and the Elbe-Havel Canal without a 12 km detour. Café Central Magdeburg is a delightful haven for food lovers, especially those with a penchant for vegan cuisine. Nestled in the heart of Magdeburg, this charming café boasts an inviting atmosphere that feels both cozy and unique, with mismatched armchairs adding to its character. Every Thursday is a special treat as Madame Lulu's vegan catering takes center stage, offering seasonal burgers crafted from homemade buns and sauces that are sure to tantalize your taste buds.
Service was fabulous and totally cherished the meals, will be returning. New meals added on a monthly basis, we were really happy with the variety here. If you'd like yummy food that won't break your budget, this place is great for a special supper with no big bill at the end. Eaten here loads of time, waiters usually amazing and no problems about the meals. We would recommend the table by the windows for the best views.

Great tasting Vegan food and Wonderfully presented. Looks like a student bar. Dark and cosy rather than posh and formal. Good choice of drinks too. Not expensive either. They are relocating around the corner on the next street soon.

A vegan spot in the central bar tub of Magdeburg. Beware Thursday is burger day And enjoy the ambience, I don't think they have two armchairs alike. It is really cozy. They also do public viewing nights for Tatort a German crime investigation show that has already been on for forever. It is really fun.

The Marktplatz in Wernigerode is a stunning square dominated by the towering Rathaus. Visitors can admire the neo-Gothic fountain from 1848 at its center. The market offers various food stalls, clothing vendors, and even a herb seller. During Christmas, the square hosts a beautiful market with traditional and new stalls, creating a festive atmosphere. However, some visitors find the prices to be on the higher side.

Customers have praised the prompt delivery service and friendly staff, although some feedback mentioned soggy fries. However, the authentic flavors of the dishes have received high praise from patrons who consider it to be the best Pakistani-Indian food in Magdeburg.
The servers here had been essentially professional and obviously love their work. Cannot fail with the good food here and the costs are fair. Rice was also not flavourful..please add some spices while cooking rice. Delivery order !!

I tried pizza at this place yesterday and was a bit confused with their service. The pizza tasted bad, its dough hard and cheese of low quality and it seemed that they had bought ready made pizza from Np or Kaufland and just added some meat, heated and presented us. Theis one star is for its location. If you want to get some good pizza, i would recommend cheeky chicken in hasselbach platz. Thanks

If you plan on sitting for a couple of hours at the Seebuehne in Elbauenpark Magdeburg, it's advisable to bring a cushion as the metal benches can become uncomfortable. Access to the venue is convenient with ample parking spaces nearby. While seating arrangements may not be very comfortable, the stage itself is enjoyable.

Take a cushion if you are going to sit for 2 hours, otherwise it can get painful on the metal benches. One of Magdeburg’s most famous sights was placed on Leiterstraße when the city’s pedestrian zone was being built. Historically Leiterstraße was the divide between the secular town and Magdeburg’s episcopal quarter. The Faunenbrunnem is a fountain designed by the Magdeburg sculptor Heinrich Apel, who crafted the model in 1976, ten years before it was cast in Lauchhammer and Rostock. The fountain is made up of a big bronze cauldron, 3.2 metres in circumference, accompanied by a host of figures (22 in total), including fauns and sirens, animals like a snake, cat, dog and turtle, two women, a man and boys play-fighting. The fountain was inaugurated in 1986 and appeared on GDR stamps in 1989.

The Magdeburg Rider is a significant equestrian statue dating back to 1240, originally built as a representation of Emperor Otto. The bronze reconstruction now stands in front of the Baroque town hall, serving as a popular backdrop for photos. The original sandstone sculpture from the Middle Ages can be found in the city's cultural history museum. This iconic monument is located on the east side of Alter Markt and is believed to depict Otto, flanked by allegorical figures carrying symbolic elements.
Also on east side of Alter Markt, just in front of the town hall is a statue in place since at least 1240. The equestrian sculpture is believed to represent Otto I, who is buried at Magdeburg cathedral. He is flanked by two allegorical maids, one carrying a shield sporting the Holy Roman imperial eagle, and the other with a pennon. The whole set is made of sandstone from Bernburg to the south, and was only gilded and placed under its current Baroque-style canopy in the 17th century. Given the age of the ensemble the current Magdeburger Reiter is a copy, and the original is at the museum of cultural history

Lots of fun! This was my first German füßball match, and I was not disappointed. The fans at Magdeburg have so much more energy than any sports fans I've ever seen back in the US, and they really take the viewing experience to a whole different level. More than anything, they have heart. The love for this team doesn't only come from love for the team, but also a deeply rooted sense of community pride. The history dates back decades; when Germany was split into two countries!. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe FC Magdeburg won the UEFA European Cup in 1974??? They were really renowned with a lot of talent, and the hope of these fans in Magdeburg is for their historic football club to climb back up the ladder and re-join the top division of Bundesliga. Wherever FC Magdeburg goes, I am deeply grateful for the energetic/loud/very fun hospitality of their many fans, and I wish them all the best! Go Magdeburg!!!

Super friendly staff and great place for kids and adults

As part of your 8 euro ticket to Elbauenpark, you get access to the butterfly house. It was very fun to visit, but do note that it's SUPER hot and humid inside, which can be uncomfortable depending on the weather. It's a nice exhibit; though they only have something like 6 types of butterflies, there are many samples, and quite a few are unusual ones I hadn't seen before.

Small, but great to take the kids. You will discover a bunch of different butterflies.
Ariane W — Google review
Was very nice but a long walk with small children. There is a gate right next to the butterfly house but it is only open certain times of the year, so a good walk through the park is required. This is fine if the weather is good. But not so great in the rain with whiney kids.

This was way better than I was expecting. Tropical climate so very hot in there. Only small but well worth a visit. Enchanting!

STRANDPARX cable island is a beautiful location with something for everyone and the whole family. The facility itself is highly praised, offering various leisure activities such as water skiing, beach volleyball, and swimming. Visitors can enjoy the white beach and delicious food at reasonable prices. Despite some initial disorganization, the friendly and helpful staff ensure a pleasant experience. While the campsite is not yet finished, guests appreciate the warm welcome and immediate problem-solving for motorhome visitors.
(Translated by Google) A great campsite with a very attentive team. A wide selection of beautiful spots. Totally peaceful, you feel like you're in the middle of nature, yet close to Magdeburg. The tram takes you quickly to the city center. In the evening, you can enjoy the sunset on the beautifully landscaped beach. Dog-friendly, with a swimming area for our four-legged friends. We're thrilled and will definitely be back 👍 (Original) Ein Mega Stellplatz, mit einem sehr aufmerksamen Team.

No admittance, unfriendly personnel

1. Bad communication (everyone had a different story) 2. Dogs allowed (on a leash) but actually also not allowed (see point 1 ;-) 3. Expensive: they literally ask you extra money for everything > shower, drinkable water, beach beds, stupid packaging for fries 4. No drinkable tap water 5. The owner and his wife were not friendly at all! Very strange to be in hospitality in Europe and know NO english at all They won’t see us returning!

(Translated by Google) Until now, I thought no campsite could achieve 100 points. I was wrong. The RV campsite and the associated infrastructure, including the beach bar, and especially the friendliness of the staff, 100 points!! You feel like a family member suddenly appears and is at home.

(Translated by Google) A very beautifully landscaped site. A bit overpriced—€5 for a shower and toilet for a limited time is obviously not worth it—but the owner is very friendly and there are restaurants on site. It's about a 20-minute walk to town. Nice lake for swimming. Schöner See zum Schwimmen

(Translated by Google) TOP, absolutely RECOMMENDED!!! Great pitch, surrounded by beautiful nature. An incredibly nice team. A cozy beach bar with delicious food and drinks. There is still a lot planned around the place. Shops within walking distance, direct connection to public transport, cycle paths directly in front, V/E everything available and even being further expanded. We keep our fingers crossed for the team and hope that the authorities don't put too many obstacles in their way. Until next time 🙏 (Original) TOP, Absolut EMPFEHLENSWERT!!!

The GETEC Arena is a spacious and impressive venue that offers ample parking spaces. It boasts numerous large screen TVs for action replays, making it ideal for events like the German Open Table Tennis. With multiple entrances and bathrooms, attendees can easily access the seating area. There are also several small vendors where one can purchase drinks and snacks, although prices may be steep, especially for water. However, visitors are advised to bring their own bottles of water to cut costs.
Nice big arena. Has many parking spots. There are also many large screen TV for action replay. I was there to watch German Open TableTennis November 10-12, 2017. The arena has many bathrooms and and entrances into the seating area. There are also many small places where you can buy drinks and snacks. The price for water was outrageously expensive and the cost was €4 for a bottle of water. Bring your own bottle of water!

Great events and seating is also very good, you have a great view from anywhere. But there are just not enough toilets for the size of the crowd they usually entertain. If you want to go to the bathroom during the halftime plan in a wait of 20-30 minutes.
