Church Street Coffee & Books is a cozy cafe in Birmingham that caters to bookworms and coffee lovers alike. It offers locally roasted coffee, delicious scratch-made baked goods, and a wide selection of popular literature titles. The cafe is known for its signature Breakup Cookie, a gooey chocolate chip cookie with a touch of salt on top.
I think I found my favorite coffee shop in the area! Bonus points that the latte art I got yesterday was spectacular! I love all the fun sweatshirts and all the books. This place is just adorable and the baristas have been nice every time I go here.
Rue U — Google review
This is a charming little coffee cum bookshop. And gels very well with the vibe of this neighborhood. It has limited sitting inside and outside.
Vipin K — Google review
Hard to beat a bookstore coffee shop! This is a cozy little one in the middle of Crestline Village with nooks to hide everywhere. They serve Nonfiction Coffee and have a good menu including the famous breakup cookie. Spot for kids to read & draw, a 2nd story that’s always quiet, and nice little patio space. Staff has always been very nice every time I visit as well. Today just got a black coffee and flavorful.
James R — Google review
I had a dirty chai tea latte, a little sweet but great taste. The baked goods were delicious, I tried 3 different ones. Staff were friendly and the place is really cute in a nice part of town.
Vickie K — Google review
Limited seating. Computer folks hog the small number of tables. Nice people. Good coffee. It's a good "to go" place but not a place to meet and talk.
Kenny G — Google review
I’d give it five stars just for THE Breakup Cookie. A delicious, perfectly crispy yet chewy, luscious blend of rich dark chocolate and sea salt, it’s definitely one of the best cookies in Birmingham. Worth a trip if you’ve never been, and I’m sure the coffee is just wonderful but that’s not why I go 😂🍪
Kelleigh C — Google review
Quiet place with good coffee and vibes. You can take a book and read or borrow one of theirs!

Insomnia Cookies is a popular bakery chain that was founded in 2003 by CEO Seth Berkowitz, who started baking cookies in his dorm room and delivering them to friends. The bakery offers a variety of freshly baked goods including cookies, cookie cake, brownies, ice cream, and cookiewiches. Known for its late-night deliveries, most locations operate from 10AM to 3AM on weekdays and from noon to 3AM on weekends.
I stopped by the Insomnia Cookies in 5 Points and had a great experience. Christian helped me out and he was awesome—super friendly, quick, and made sure everything was perfect with my order. Definitely recommend stopping by and grabbing some cookies, you won’t be disappointed!

It was our first time to visit. It also was my husband's birthday so it was a birthday treat for him.... Okay, well I enjoyed it too! The staff was super friendly and very helpful making our decision of what to get. This is my new favorite celebratory sweet place. Thank you for the wonderful sweet treat and nice environment!
Tamie F — Google review
Ronisha and the crew provide consistently friendly and attentive service, accurately fulfilling each customer's order. They remain courteous, even when faced with a high volume of customers. The cookies are extremely addictive. I visit the downtown location at least twice a week!
Vanessa M — Google review
First time here. Wanted to try it. The young lady at the counter wasn’t friendly at all. I told her it was my first time there. She said let me know when you ready and that was it. When I told her I was ready and what I wanted to try. She said what you said? She didn’t hear me because she was talking on the phone with earbuds in her ear. I asked her what’s the difference in the brownies she said just chocolate. So I just picked one. At that point I was ready to order anything and just go. I know it’s a cookie shop but I wanted to know more about the menu. I gave it a 3 because she wasn’t welcoming but she wasn’t friendly nor was she customer friendly she was on the phone.

I love this place and the cookies here are delicious!!!!!! They are always warm and ready to eat. They stay open late for that late night sweet run!!! Don’t sleep on these cookies!! Try them, you won’t regret it!
Carla H — Google review
Insomnia Cookies never disappoints! Their cookies are always warm, soft, and fresh—just the right balance of gooey in the middle with a slight crisp on the edges. The variety is impressive, from classic chocolate chip to more unique flavors like s’mores and double chocolate chunk. I especially loved my experience with Christian as he was very welcoming. Will be returning.
CeCe J — Google review
Amazing Cookies & Even Better Service! I just had to leave a review for Insomnia Cookies – they are consistently fantastic! Every time I order, I'm blown away by how incredibly fast they are. Seriously, it's like magic how quickly those warm, delicious cookies arrive at my door. But it's not just the speed; their staff is always so friendly and kind. Whether it's the person taking my order or the delivery driver, they're always a pleasure to interact with. It really makes the experience even better. If you're craving some delicious cookies and want them delivered with a smile and lightning speed, Insomnia Cookies is definitely the place to go! Highly recommend!

Cookie shop
Cookie Fix, a popular bakery with locations in Homewood, Cahaba Heights, and soon to open in Huntsville, offers an array of delectable cookies and sweet treats. The menu features a variety of flavors such as red velvet, salted dark chocolate caramel, and cranberry jumble. Customers can order these mouth-watering treats online in Kraft boxes, tins, cookie cakes, or even frozen dough to go.
I stopped in to try Cookie Fix this weekend. I ended up just getting a small sweet treat for myself and got a chocolate chip cookie and a sugar cookie. The display of cookies was so nice and perfectly themed for Father's Day tomorrow. The staff were very polite. Most importantly the cookies tasted great! I would def come back to try more in the future!
Pana P — Google review
My mom, aunt, cousin and myself are here from Kentucky, we are in Alabama for the Chris Brown concert tonight. We thought we would come sightseeing and we stopped into Cookie Fix. The girls in there working were so nice and sweet. They made us feel so welcomed. If we ever come back to these parts, we will definitely come back in again. I’ll definitely refer this place to others.! Then to top it off, the cookies are AMAZING!!!!
B M — Google review
Cookie Fix is amazing! We ordered a mixed tray for an office celebration and everyone raved about the cookies. I had the triple chocolate and it was delicious. I love have they add a touch of course salt on top to balance the sweetness. Our order was ready on time and the store was packed when I came in. If foot traffic is a sign of how good a place is then there is no doubt this place is a crowd favorite.
Ricky H — Google review
Just yum!! That soft in the middle cookie is so my jam when it comes to cookies! When the fam goes there for a treat, we all have to share a bite with each other and every cookie has been tops!
Lane — Google review
Wonderful cookies! Always a treat to come here. Tiny place but the cookies are huge on flavor. We were back in town after living in the Bham area for several years. Was on the list to stop and get a few beauties! Update 5/24/24- Back again to get some delicious cookies. Dark chocolate caramel and healthy peanut butter get in my belly! Wow please open a store in Atlanta-really miss this treat!!
Kyle B — Google review
We were visiting Homewood for a few days and were recommended to stop by here. There weren’t many options of cookie flavors. We bought quite a few and only a couple cookies stood out. They were soft and crispy at the same time. Some were delicious and others were just way too much sweetness. Also this is a small place so they aren’t seating inside, plan to eat cookie elsewhere.
Ruthie R — Google review
Best cookies in Birmingham!! Love the sammies and over the top cookies.
Lindy R — Google review
I saw this place featured on WBRC Fox 6 News. Skeptical me, honestly didn't expect much. I took one bite and was immediately thankful that they're not located in Tuscaloosa, because I DEFINITELY would not be able to resist going there all the time! Their cookies are amazing!!! 🥰 I even love the location. Their employees were super nice as well, which made the treats all the more sweet!

Crumbl - Mountain Brook is a delightful destination for cookie lovers, known for its impressive array of soft-baked cookies that are both thick and indulgent. Each cookie boasts a moist center encased in a perfectly crisp exterior, making every bite an absolute treat. The shop excels at delivering gourmet flavors, with the butter cake cookie being a standout favorite among visitors. Patrons rave about the lemon tea cake flavor as well, highlighting the bakery's ability to satisfy any sweet tooth.
Wow, I was so happy to finally get to try the butter cake. Originally I tried to get a hold of the non-caramel butter cakes, they had a week or so ago, but couldn’t make it in time. So as soon as this one dropped, I knew I had to stop by. I’m literally obsessed with butter cake IDKY it’s just so good. And just as I had suspected, they did this butter cake right, from the vanilla bean topping to most importantly how they caramelize and crisp the outer shell of the cake. That’s exactly what I’m looking for in a butter cake and it taste like butter, which I love. However, I can’t speak highly about other Crumbl products. Pretty much Every other cookie ive tried has been horrible, including the honey bun cookie, which didn’t taste anything like a honey bun and wasn’t sweet at all. It just tasted like raw Dough. I will look out for any time they have cakes, but I won’t be trying anymore of their cookies. Definitely not worth it. We literally threw it in the trash.
Malik — Google review
I finally tried Crumbl and wow… these cookies are no joke. They’re huge, soft in the middle, and the rotating flavors keep it exciting each week. My personal favorite was the chilled pink sugar—it’s simple but perfect. The chocolate chip is a classic too, super rich and gooey. The only downside is they can be really sweet, so one cookie is more than enough (sharing is a must unless you’ve got a serious sweet tooth). Prices are a little higher than your average cookie shop, but considering the size and presentation, it feels worth it. The store was clean, staff was friendly, and pickup was fast. Overall, Crumbl feels more like a fun treat than an everyday stop, but it definitely lives up to the hype for special occasions or just when you want to spoil yourself.
Trinity B — Google review
These cookies are always wonderful and a delight. But they DID disappoint this morning when we ordered 6 cookies and got minis that were left on our doorstep for over an hour and are hard as hockey pucks. The Mtn. Brook store had nothing to say to make it right.
Patty G — Google review
This place is absolutely phenomenal, their cookies are out of this world and perfectly hit your sweet tooth! My favorite flavor is the lemon tea cake!
Grim_lens — Google review
Great customer service and very clean My treat was mouth watering 🥴😮‍💨
Katasha S — Google review
The cookies are wonderful and they have a lot of varieties! The service is always cordial! Be prepared, this is not your ordinary cookie. It's a meal. One Crumbl cookie is plenty. Through the app, you can earn points for free cookies. That makes them even better.
Dr. B — Google review
This was my first time to experience Crumbl cookies. And I have to admit it’s because I heard about them listening to Matt Rife, I downloaded the app and then ordered a six pack for delivery. It was very easy, they were delivered on time, and they are absolutely delicious. I will definitely recommend crumble cookies to my friends and will use this app again. I’m sorry I have no pictures because I ate them too fast!
Susan J — Google review
First off it smells amazing in there all the time. then you get service from some very friendly and helpful workers. They seem knowledgeable of menu and services. The store is super clean, but the white is a bit bland. But I will trad aesthetics for service any day. Not to mention that they cookies are awesome. I don't have many teeth, but that doesn't matter with their cookies.

Ice cream shop
Bendy's Cookies & Cream is a sweet venture started by the husband and wife duo, Ben and Wendy. What began as a home-based sampling for friends and family evolved into a full-fledged food truck in Birmingham in 2016. This mobile dessert haven offers classic homemade ice cream sandwiches with a modern twist. With locations in Cahaba Heights and Trussville, Bendy's serves up warm, delectable cookies paired with cups of ice cream at an unbeatable price.
Great place. I tried several of the ice creams they had, all of which were fantastic. I ended up with the blackberry buttered biscuit since it was a seasonal for the summer. The woman working was great. I’m sorry I didn’t catch her name! She was telling me how they’re all homemade and that she is really good at pairing their cookies with the ice cream and that the cookies are underrated. I agree. One scoop and a cookie was $5.75 and I’d gladly have laid $9 for the combo. I’ll definitely be back with my family!

My first time trying Bendy’s Cookies & Cream was at an event my apartment hosted. I got cookies and cream ice cream & a chocolate chip cookie—it was DELICIOUS!!!! Thank you for coming out to treat us! It definitely cooled me off from the hot weather😎
Khaiah B — Google review
I visited this cookie shop for the first time with my daughter and, unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We were the only African American customers there, and while the shop was busy, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming. We were met with blank stares from both associates and other patrons—no greeting, no warmth, just discomfort. As a first-time customer, I hoped for a pleasant and inclusive environment, but instead, I felt out of place and overlooked. I truly believe all customers deserve to feel acknowledged and respected, regardless of background. I hope this feedback encourages more mindful customer service and a more welcoming atmosphere for everyone.
Kitra H — Google review
We always enjoy visiting Bendy’s—their ice cream is some of the best in Birmingham! However, we were disappointed on our last visit. We arrived at 8:15 on a Saturday night and were told milkshakes weren’t available because the machine had already been cleaned, even though the store doesn’t close until 9:30. Hopefully, they'll reconsider the policy of cleaning the machine an hour before closing.
Jordan A — Google review
One of my favorite dessert spots! If you are a snicker-doodle cookie fan like me, you should definitely check them out. They have the best version of them in my opinion. That's not to say that everything else isn't delish there too. Trust me I've tried it all! ;) And I've never been disappointed with what I've gotten. Plus the owners are some of the coolest people you'll meet. I highly recommend them to anyone who's in need of a sweet treat!
Josh B — Google review
5 stars for the taste. The shop is very small, though. It was so crowded, and we were pushed all the way against the door, people standing outside the door as well after us. I have never had a better cookie and ice cream, though. Well worth it. Parking was scarce also. We had to wait for someone to walk out and stalk them to their vehicle to take theirs. Wish they could open a bigger store somewhere.
Amanda — Google review
Stopped in to get a requested ice cream sandwich for my son’s birthday. I placed my order for one sandwich and asked for it “to go” and was told they only do that for online orders and it’s about an hour prep time. Literally would not place my one ice cream sandwich in a closed container so that I could transport it.

General is a beloved neighborhood cafe and general store known for its delicious cookies baked by Last Call Baking. The cafe offers a cozy atmosphere with a maximalist decor and an array of cool products for sale. It's a great spot to enjoy coffee from June Coffee along with delectable cakes and pastries. Visitors praise the charming interior, friendly staff, and the delightful fresh-squeezed lemonade.
I look for excuses to come. Their breakfast is great; you can buy a recommended plate or buy things a la carte. Ask for a side of jam with your toast. It’s also my go-to place for gifts (think teas, unique homewares, locally made jewelry). Don’t see anything? Buy an olive oil citrus cake and head over to SHOPPE right next door for flowers.
Colleen K — Google review
I love Shoppe and the General store, so I was so excited to try the cafe side of things. The setting is the most perfect environment for studying/brunch/date/really anything! The interior design of the General store is so beautiful and unique. The hazelnut latte I got tasted perfect and I had the best time studying there. The cafe and store staff were so kind and wonderful. My only disappointment was in the food I ordered. I got the croque monsieur and it felt like I was eating greasy, hot ham and cheese on white bread. I was very underwhelmed and that is what has made me feel hesitant to return. The bakery items looked tasty, so maybe it was what I ordered. For this I have to take off 1 star, but I really hope to return and have a different experience. (And yes I had to take a video of the bathroom because it was GLAMOROUS)
Blair B — Google review
I was staying at a house nearby and looking for a Saturday breakfast/lunch place. General was perfect. The interior is lovely, with Ting ceilings and cozy decor. You order at a counter and they bring it to your table. I sat outside and had a delicious “baker’s brunch” that included bacon, cheese, grits, fried egg, fried pimento cheese, and pickled collard greens. After I ate, I went in the second half of the business, which is a little shop, sewing napkins, and tea towels, and other cute homey things.

If you’ve ever longed for the joy of indulging in raw cookie dough without the worry of getting sick, then Cookie Dough Magic is your dream come true! This delightful spot offers a variety of safe-to-eat cookie dough flavors that will take you back to your childhood. Each scoop is a nostalgic treat, with favorites like Birthday Cake Batter stealing the show—it's even better than traditional birthday cake!
I stumbled upon CDM while visiting a friend due to unfortunate circumstances. What I gem! Its location is perfect, name stood out immediately and the ice cream-cookie dough combination just added the cherries on top! A baby staple and lowkey place that I am sure will become a major chain in the coming years! Can’t wait to own one myself.

We had our little girl’s birthday party here and it was the cutest & easiest birthday party experience ever! Lilly and Shane were incredibly helpful and kind, our friends and family loved it- I couldn’t recommend it more!!

First: What a great place for sweets, the cookie dough comes in a bunch of different flavors like birthday cake and fudge brownie. Then you have the option of putting the dough into a cup, a cone (like ice cream) or as a milk shake. The staff was super friendly and ready to help satisfy your sweet tooth. It is located right next to Ferrus, and in the heart of the new trussville entertainment district.
James N — Google review
We made a special detour to go by here yesterday on our way out of town because the location close to our home had closed their doors and I called ahead to make sure they would be open and it was TOTALLY WORTH IT!! The cookie dough is delicious. Several varieties. This location also sells ice cream. When we called ahead the gentleman even offered to stay late (after hours) if we were going to be running behind in traffic. What a rare courtesy these days! We made it in plenty of time though and couldn’t be more impressed with the quality of the product as well as the quality of the staff/management.

I have been trying for about a year to get here and try their sweets. OMGOODNESS, the peanut butter cookies made me call them while sitting at the traffic light and tell them how good they were. I also bought a turtle brownie and a piece of red velvet. Both were good as well. This was a great experience, and I will be going back. So I'm back it's 2:47am, and I just tried the red velvet cake with nuts. OMGOONESS!!!!! Let me add this, I brought this cake on Friday when I purchased the cookies, and it's still fresh. Great experience!!!

I didn't know what to expect initially but I can honestly say I'm glad I stopped by. The store is so pretty inside and they are so sweet and attentive. I am definitely coming back.

Tried them for the first time and absolutely loved it! My baby girl said "Momma this Oreo cupcake is soooo good!!! We have to go back to them!" And I agree my Strawberry Cheesecake cupcake was so good that I was only planning on eating half now and ended up eating the whole thing before I knew it! If you haven't tried them yet, please do. I promise you will not be disappointed!

We walked into the bakery and the first scent was of the cinnamon rolls. It is Valentines weekend so they had a mini cupcake assortment pack. (We are saving those for tomorrow). We ordered an assortment pack and 3 cinnamon rolls. (2 plain and one with nuts and raisins. ) the cinnamon rolls are amazing!!!! They were warm and very large. The cream cheese frosting was on point. This is probably one of the best cinnamon rolls in Birmingham!!! I would highly recommend.

Every time i go, the ladies there are so sweet and nice. Haven't tried a lot of things on their menu, but the things that I have ordered are very good. I think my favorites are the brownie and the chocolate chip cookies.

The best sweets I've come across in a long time in Alabama. It use to be Edgar's bakery my go for sweets, but since double sweetness been opened they are definitely the best. The only thing you must get there early or call and ask them to hold what you want because they do sell out fast.
Yolanda M — Google review
We swing by Tuesday 12/21 for the first time I saw an old class mate of mine post about you all on facebook several times. I'm am not a sweets person but I LOVE red velvet cake so I wanted to try you all out. And OMG let me say hands down the BEST red velvet cup cake I have ever had. I called my mom and had to tell her how amazing they were. Purchased 2 and saved the other for my mom I just had to have her taste it as well and she and the SAME reaction. "OMG you were right the cupcake is AMAZING where did you get these from again. I want a whole cake". #customerforlife. We also got a cinnamon roll and 2 cheese cake cupcakes, they had strawberry filling. My kid got those and truly enjoyed them as well. Check them out.

If you're on the hunt for a delightful dining experience that brings the joy of home-cooked meals to your table, look no further than The Joyful Food Co. in Birmingham. This charming establishment specializes in prepared meals available in both single and family portions, catering to various dietary preferences with options that are gluten-free, Paleo, and Whole30 approved. But that's not all!
Love this place. Joyful Food proves that food on the go can be delish and healthy! And gluten free! The chicken salad is fantastic, bento boxes a nice quick snack or lunch. I’ll be coming back for myself and to gift my real estate clients. Another local business that makes Birmingham special! Kathy was so pleasant and helpful.
Christine P — Google review
Joyful Foods has always been my go-to store for really good gluten free meals. This year we ordered their Thanksgiving menu. It was really good.
James T — Google review
Outstanding place with a huge, clean, and well organized kitchen that serves as foundation for consciously prepared meals and otherworldly baked goods. High quality, mostly organic, fair-trade ingredients allow for flavor explosions outside the mainstream. There are no seats, food is ready made to take home. The vegetarian options are very limited.
Gottfried K — Google review
We stopped here on our way back to Texas to grab some items for lunch/dinner. Everything we had was delicious! It’s so hard finding quality food when traveling and this place blew me away. I only wish we had something like this in TX!
The A — Google review
Guys eat healthy and take care your body! If you don't have time to cook for yourself or your family the Joyful Food Co. is the best place to go for already prepared meals. The variety is insane from a quick healthy meal before or after sports for single persons to already prepared meals for a family dinner. All meals prepared with the best incredients. Healthy can be so delicious! Next to that you can have a super nice chat with the owner, which is super friendly and helpful if your food selection is limited because of intolerances.

Our gluten free/dairy free family LOVES everything about Joyful Food Co! So fun that Birmingham has a healthy option for meals and baked goods. Bonus~they deliver!!
Jessica M — Google review
I love The Joyful Food Co. and especially at Thanksgiving. The sweet potato casserole is fabulous. Even my non-healthy family loved it, when I could tell they started to say they didn’t like it they ended up requesting it for the next year. The pecan pie and the pumpkin pie are also very good. And I always enjoy their pumpkin bread and their pumpkin soup . don’t know if that’s on the Thanksgiving menu. I also like the homemade cranberry/cherry sauce I don’t know exactly what it’s called but it’s good. My memory is so bad I can’t really remember all what I’ve gotten. Pretty sure I got the gravy last year and liked it as well. The best of all is the sweet potato casserole or sweet potato pie whatever you call it. They deliver too which makes it convenient when you’re busy.

I love The Joyful Food Company! Since I am exclusively gluten-free and mostly paleo, it's been a go-to for me for sweet treats and meals. Everything is fresh and delicious and the service is great. They also offer some great items for Thanksgiving; some of our favorites are their pie crust (we make our own homemade pumpkin pie with it, and that's become a tradition at our house, but you can also buy a pumpkin pie from them!), their cherry cranberry sauce, and their sweet potato casserole. My mother-in-law loves the cherry cranberry sauce and my husband and I always love having the leftovers from the sweet potato casserole - it has just the right amount of sweet to it, and we love the nuts on top. I'm so thankful for The Joyful Food Company and for how they have made my paleo/gluten-free journey not only possible but also enjoyable!

Restaurant
Greenhouse UAB is a popular spot located near the UAB medical complex, offering a variety of delicious and healthy food options. The menu features items such as chickpea fritters, steak sandwiches, carrot cumin soup, avocado toast, and flavorful salads. The portions are generous and cater to vegetarians as well. Customers rave about the tasty and fresh food served at Greenhouse UAB. Additionally, the establishment is praised for its fast service and friendly staff.
Chickpea fritters and steak sandwich were so excellent! Portions are large. It's not cheap but it's worth it. Salad options are extensive. Lots of options for vegetarians. The sides are filling and the service is fast. So glad to have a healthy option in the uab medical complex. (Not that my choice on this rainy day to eat fritters and steak was particularly healthy... but it was good!! The spicy sauce on the fritters is awesome). There's plenty of seating, and if you're not already on campus for work or the medical complex, there is parking behind the restaurant.
Kristina V — Google review
Happy to see a healthy option for lunch in the area, but the salad prices are disappointing. $23 for maybe 5 ounces of greens (the “gobig” size) and a boiled egg is ludicrous, though it was a great salad. If they rethink the salad prices they should do well

Next to UAB. Love their Carrot Cumin soup and the Avacoda Toast. Salads are pretty good too.
