Restaurant
The Essential is a chic modern American cafe in Birmingham, owned by chefs Victor King and Kristen Hall. Formerly known as Feast & Forest, the restaurant has relocated to Morris Avenue with a trendy ambiance. The menu features delectable lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch options along with specialty cocktails. Chef Hall's homemade brioche doughnuts and the hearty Essential Hash are popular brunch choices.
This place is a tucked away cozy treat! From the moment you walk in the door, you feel welcome. The atmosphere and ambience is amazing as well. All of the staff were extremely friendly, and management visited our table to check on us as well. My wife and I had the burger and the chicken dish, both of which were amazing. My wife really enjoyed the sourdough bread appetizer. We finished with their in house made sorbets. The blackberry banana and the peach were both so refreshing.
S D — Google review
We really wanted to love it, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype for us. The atmosphere was trendy and inviting, and all the staff we interacted with were friendly and welcoming. We arrived before the lunch rush, but the place filled up quickly and got very loud, making conversation hard. As for the food it was mediocre at best. We ordered the rigatoni Bolognese: the pasta was fresh and cooked al dente, and the ragù had good flavor, but the dish lacked salt overall. The cacio e pepe was disappointing. It was heavy on the “pepe” (black pepper), and the spaghetti were clumped together clearly not stirred properly while cooking. I did enjoy the 4-grain salad. It was fresh, original, and well-balanced. The arancini had a nice crispy fry on the outside, but the rice inside was overcooked. The biggest letdown was the espresso completely undrinkable. We paid just over $100 (with tip) for a lunch that looked much better than it tasted. For a place with such a strong visual brand and beautiful photos, we expected more. Maybe we caught them on an off day, but we left disappointed.

This is a great place to have brunch with friends, brunch date with your significant other or even a business brunch date. It works for any type of brunch date. It’s a beautiful spot, great service and great food! The pancakes are phenomenally, the breakfast hash was delicious and the banana bread with the walnut butter is delicious! My bestie and I had a great experience and is now one of our new favorite brunch spots in the city!
Luvonia A — Google review
Aesthetically, beautiful. The sourdough bread 1000/10, the entrees were nothing short of amazing! Katie, our table concierge, was very attentive and pleasant. Our experience was top quality all around and would absolutely recommend when you are in the Birmingham area!
Aixa A — Google review
We came during lunch on a Wednesday. Not super busy but the server took a while to get to us to order our food, over ten minutes. I ordered the agnolotti pasta and my friend ordered the hamburger plate. Though the presentation was fantastic, my pasta was drenched in oil, a bit too much and her burger was crispy to the point she had to remove the sides so she would not chip a tooth. I expected more from an establishment such as this. Will not have a repeat visit from me.
Rachel M — Google review
Amazing place, a little annoying that we got sat outside but the decorations and food presentations looked amazing. I ordered the essential hashbrowns with ketchup and it was divine! The coffee was also delicious. Overall an amazing place and a cute little spot for some breakfast. Our server, Evan was always getting stuff out of our way and filling water and fixing us stuff, truly some of the best service I’ve ever had.
Segway ( — Google review
Twice in one day. First ever visit was for lunch. Brought colleagues for dinner the same day. Both experiences were fantastic. Food is delicious. The five grain salad with chicken for lunch was luscious, the Chicken Piri Piri for dinner was food memory in the making - super flavorful and perfectly cooked. Excellent service both times.
Shawn B — Google review
Great place. Sat at the bar and the manager, owner and staff all chatted with us and were super friendly and interesting. They made us feel really at home. Food was excellent. The piri piri chicken was more like a sweet and savory sauce than a hot sauce but it sure was delicious. Very good options for beer and wine as well. Overall I highly recommend this place. If I'm ever back in Birmingham it will certainly be on the agenda.

Hot dog restaurant
Fast food restaurant
Gus's Hot Dogs is a small, well-established spot in Birmingham that has been serving up delicious hot dogs since the late 1940s. The joint is known for its diverse selection of hot dogs and its special sauce, which adds a unique flavor to the grilled dogs. The casual downtown eatery draws in locals during lunch hours who can't seem to get enough of their signature hot dogs topped with mustard, onions, and the sweet, thick special sauce.
This was amazing. The service from the chef was awesome I loved the interaction! The cheeseburger was to die for and the hotdogs were spot on!!

This location is a smaller location and available counter seating and one table outside near a parking garage. Great spot to grab and go. We went to Railroad Park. Ordered the #5 Junkyard and a Dbl Cheeseburger adding kraut. The server was a nice gentleman who takes pleasure in making your order to your liking
Jorge H — Google review
The ONLY chili I eat on a hot dog. It's delicious and I've not tasted any other like it. The service is exceptional and the food is good always. There is no where to sit except a couple of seats outside and it can get crowded especially during lunch time but it's so worth it.
Andrea G — Google review
I struggled with the question of atmosphere. It’s an old-school lunch counter. It’s awesome! This is a single best chili cheese dog I’ve ever had in my entire life. I don’t think I will ever eat a better chili cheese dog. I eat a lot of chili cheese dogs.

I stop by Gus not knowing what to expect. So I got a #2 special. I had no idea what the special all the way was. Boy was I pleasantly surprised. That hot dog with that meat sauce was so good and for a good price. Its a hand held meal.

American restaurant
Fine dining restaurant
Restaurant
This leading American restaurant opens its doors to Birmingham diners with a fusion menu of Southern, French, and Californian cooking styles. The kitchen is open allowing patrons to see the dishes as they are being prepared, and everything on the menu is thoughtfully prepared and reliably delicious.
Everything was amazing start to finish . Wr sat at the chefs table, which I recommend. Seeing all the dishes come out and being prepared was so entertaining..We had the bread and asparagus for appetizers, both were delicious. We had the pompano and snapper for entrees and the fish was cooked perfectly. The sides were fresh and delicious. The good was plated beautifully. We ended with Samoa tart. . Perfection! Wr both had cocktails from the cocktail.menu and they were so good. Our server was friendly and attentive . I just can't say enough about how great this place is.
Bambi D — Google review
Not the best experience- which was sorely disappointing as I’ve always heard great things about this place. Ordered the $10 bread service (herb butter was just okay, even some sea salt would’ve made a difference), and the okra basket. Very average stuff for the price point. The server informed us that the kitchen was backed up (which was strange as it was not packed) so we waited a while for our food. I ordered the low country grouper and my husband ordered the steak. My fish came out wrong the first time and they had to take it back. It was okay- again, very average. His steak was cooked great- but why is it cut up into pieces? Ruins the flavor and causes some of the pieces to turn a little tough. The wine I had was good- but we skipped out on dessert and decided to head on out, after a very meh experience for $150+. If you’re in Birmingham, I would recommend Automatic over this place.
Lucy G — Google review
We made reservations and travelled to Birmingham to celebrate my hubby’s birthday. While making online reservations I documented and shared that we were celebrating his birthday. However, the hostess nor the server acknowledged the occasion. The server was not attentive, for example I requested water more than once, where an attentive wait staff would pay attention to patrons glasses at their table. There was a delay in general at our table. The restaurant was not busy at the time. My husband and daughter ordered beverages that they were satisfied. The food was the best of my experience at the restaurant. The chef had great culinary skills. I would recommend that the manager, make more of an effort to greet patrons in general, this would be great customer service, as they patronize and celebrate special occasions at the establishment. The chef did have time to run out to the patio as we were departing and greet, I suppose one of the regular patrons. However, if customer friendly service were more in line with the quality of the food, I would recommend it to family and friends. However these two go hand in hand.
Chanda H — Google review
In my opinion one of the best restaurants in Birmingham. The food was excellent. You feel like you made a journey to europe. We had the delicious beef Tatar and the tomato salat. We can highly recommend for the entree the duck and the lamp career. Both meats were absolutely on point and perfectly cocked. The chocolate soufflé made us feel like we were in Paris. Our server Kevin was attended and very friendly. It's not a cheap restaurant, but it's worth every cent.
Selly N — Google review
Great meal with my wife before the the Tina Turner musical at the BJCC. Also, celebrating our anniversary and my wife's birthday. We had 5:00 p.m. reservations and we were seated promptly. Enjoyed the ambiance of sitting at the chef's counter. Provided wonderful service by our server Ryan, our server assistant Kezia, and Niko. The food was excellent starting with the opening act Pork Tamale. For the Big Show my wife ordered the Low Country Yellow Edge Grouper. Loved the presentation I ordered the Wood Fired Hanger Steak. We both enjoyed our selections. For the Closing Act we shared the Elton's Chocolate Soufflé. Loved the presentation. Top notch ambiance, food, and service.
Michael M — Google review
This restaurant is supposed to be one of the best in Birmingham, however, it was wildly overpriced. The vibe/atmosphere is great, especially sitting at chefs bar to watch them make the food. We split an entree, 2 apps, 1 dessert and only got 1 drink each and spent $90 a person. The tomato stack was amazing, everything else was average - don’t get the crudo - much too salty/fishy. Would go back for tomato stack & cocktails alone but not for dinner.

We brought our new Your Choice Senior Care franchisees from Austin, TX to eat here last night, and it was the most impressive experience you could hope or wish for from a high end food establishment like Hot & Hot Fish Club. The service and menu is beyond compare, and our new owners are still talking about their experience there last night. Chef is a true culinary artisan!
George H — Google review
Got to enjoy the delicious cocktails before the with the beef Tartare and Surf&Turf appetizer before digging into the seared Magret Duck Breast. My husband also let me sample the Ancho-Rubbed Iberico Pork Chop. The meat was tender and cooked how I asked. The service was attentive but also didn't hover. We had reservations with our friends from out of town on the patio and definitely enjoyed our food immensely.

Gluten-free restaurant
Yo' Mama's is a casual Southern eatery known for its comforting chicken and waffles and other classic dishes. The restaurant offers a laid-back atmosphere with attentive service, making diners feel right at home. A unique feature of Yo' Mama's is their gluten-free breading for frying, catering to those with dietary restrictions. Customers rave about the delicious meatloaf and house-made sauces that add an extra kick to the flavorful menu.
A really sweet spot! The atmosphere is chill and welcoming. The food.... Portions are really generous Quality is amazing I had chicken wings and waffles with warm peaches. And cheesy grits. The chicken is so flavourful and the crispy coating is the best! Waffles are stellar! Tried grits for the first time and would definitely recommend. Thanks to the crew working hard putting out top notch meals!

I visited Yo Mama’s for the first time on July 25, 2025, and was impressed by the warm, welcoming atmosphere and excellent customer service. I ordered the Hot Wing Plate, and the wings were huge! The sauce had great flavor, but the wings were a bit larger than I personally prefer. On the plus side, the juice I ordered was absolutely delicious. Overall, it was a good experience, and I’m looking forward to going back to try other dishes on their menu.
Lswilson — Google review
Was looking for a burger place in downtown. Google recommended Yo’ Mama’s. Upon a first arrival, the restaurant was very clean and staffed with pleasant employees. I ordered the barbecue burger minus the barbecue sauce (as I’m not a huge fan of bar sauce on my burgers). Which came with a side of fresh hand, cut fries and added a sweet tea. We sat down and within five minutes, our food was delivered as ordered . I must tell you I’ve eaten burgers in a lot of places, but this was by far one of the best burgers I have had in my life. I don’t know what about the flavor was so good but it was outstanding. The fries had a seasoning on them which complimented everything and the sweet tea was homemade southern sweet tea. my coworker got the fried chicken and said her meal was also delicious. if you’re ever in the area, give these folks a shot you will not be sorry. It might even be on my list for tomorrow’s lunch ( here traveling for work).

I was so impressed to find a restaurant in Birmingham that serves gluten free fried chicken! Flavorful, southern, GF fried chicken! 😋 It was delicious. I was able to eat without worry from meal to dessert. They have GF Mac and cheese in Tuesdays and GF French toast and pancakes on Saturday. The menu is vast and whether you avoid gluten or not there is something for everyone! The service was friendly and informative. Oh and try the in house beverages. They are delicious too. I give a big 👍🏽 because I’ll be back.

Absolutely loved this place great brunch options my whole table got different items so we were able to taste multiple menu options sorry thought about pics after we had dug into this delicious food...servers were so nice line was long when we got in but wait time was not crazy...food was definitely worth the wait chicken was crispy grits were delicious and the waffle with the homemade syrup was chefs kiss! Definitely would be back & again don't judge the pics lol just know we ate good
Shantinae R — Google review
Okay, but I wouldn’t go back. I had the bbq burger and my husband had the chicken and waffles. I also ordered the sweet tea. It was $3 and came in a plastic bottle so not a sit down type of drink with refills. And the tea was not good. The burger was okay and I liked the fries. The chicken and waffles were really bland with little flavor. The waffle was barely warm and had no crispness to it.
Cherish B — Google review
Absolutely amazing fried chicken! The waffles and biscuit were incredible too. So happy to find a true gluten-free gem — everything was delicious and everyone was so friendly!

Vietnamese restaurant
Restaurant
Saigon Noodle House is a casual Vietnamese eatery that offers a variety of traditional dishes such as pho and banh mi sandwiches, along with pearl smoothies. The restaurant is known for its accommodating menu, offering tofu as a substitute for meat in many dishes. The vegetable pho is particularly praised for its well-cooked tofu and colorful assortment of vegetables. Additionally, the banh mi sandwiches can also be made with tofu upon request.
In a quiet location. Not too busy when we went. Service was good, well staffed. Clean. Open concept setting, well spaced. Food was great. Reasonable prices. Spring rolls were good, little different. My kids enjoyed their grill pork and rice. The pho was good, more on the sweet end but not too bad. Tons of quality meat.
Meng T — Google review
Unexpectedly better than what we thought, but compare to Seattle Vietnamese food, there’s still a gap. The pho was tasty but the flavor can be stronger. The meat patty from the bun was a bit skimpy. The laksa wasn’t really a laksa, it’s more like soup with Vietnamese curry on top. But it’s still tasty. Lots of seafood and funny enough, not enough noodle to go with the soup. But overall, it’s a good unexpected find to have our Asian fix amidst all Southern cuisine here.
KC L — Google review
Our bowls were absolutely divine! The broth was rich and flavorful, the noodles were cooked perfectly, and the toppings were fresh and balanced, creating a truly satisfying and delicious experience. My beef was a little overcooked, but it was good. The staff was great!
K S — Google review
I was just passing through on a road trip and got an order of pork and shrimp spring rolls and they were delicious. All of the servers were constantly coming by to check on me and my server was amazing. He gave me a suggestion since I wanted to order something different for my meal. I got the Bun Bo Hue. I like spicy so I really enjoyed it but liked the brisket the most out of all of the meats. I also got spring rolls to go since they were delicious. So happy I stopped in!
Cydria G — Google review
I love Pho. It is one of my favorite foods. I actually drove across Birmingham to find this place and try it. I was very pleased. If you have not tried Pho, this is a perfect spot to do so. It is such a comforting and delicious meal. I would also suggest the spring rolls. But, note that Vietnamese spring rolls are not fried. They are whipped in a translucent rice paper which become a bit sticky to touch when wet. These were pork and shrimp filled, with vermicelli noodles, and contained bright fresh and crisp things like julienned carrots and cucumbers as well as cilantro and mint. You dip them in a a Vietnamese Nuoc Cham sauce made from peanut butter, soy, hoisin sauce and other delicious ingredients. These spring rolls were spot on. I judged this as an overall 5. I based that on pho that i have eaten in this area and also judge it against the overall Pho I have tasted in similar locations. For instance, i have been to Vietnam. And, I have lived and worked in places like San Francisco. And, this Pho holds up well. For me, the extra effort of service pushed me over the line. And, the food is actually very good. The ingredients tasted fresh and the flavors were all there. I am by no means an expert in Pho. But, this is definitely my new Pho spot in Birmingham.
T B — Google review
One of my absolute favorite places to eat in Birmingham Alabama! The absolute best pho I have ever had!!! The staff is super nice and awesome to talk to! The food is phenomenal! Iv eaten Pho most of my adult life and this place is definitely the best in Alabama! The atmosphere is comfortable and very inviting.
Austin E — Google review
We stop here on our way to Destin and got the pho and rice dishes. The pho noodle is thin and has a good texture, however the pho broth however was disappointing because to me it tastes very bland. The rice dishes was okay, does not stand out to me. They have kids menu, one kid got the pho and bubble tea drink. The bean sprouts are extra charge. The other kid got the rice dish and bubble tea drink. The server did check in us often.

Chicken restaurant
Eugene's Hot Chicken - Uptown is a fast food restaurant specializing in Nashville-style hot chicken. Originally starting as a food truck, it has now expanded to two brick-and-mortar locations. The founder, Zebbie Carney, was inspired to bring the phenomenon of hot chicken from Nashville to Alabama. With a perfect balance of heat and flavor, Eugene's Hot Chicken offers various levels of spiciness for their signature dish.
The chicken tenders and okra were delicious! I had the Hot Damn seasoning on my tenders, and it was the perfect amount of heat. The seasoning tastes more than just cayenne pepper like other establishments. The okra was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend the food. The place is small and a little crowded during lunchtime, but there is extra outdoor seating.
Barry S — Google review
I tried the $1.25 Wednesday Wing Special with fries. The chicken was fried perfectly, crispy and flavorful. However, I wasn’t a fan of the sauce. I ordered mild on my wings, but the flavor was sweet. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the waitress was very helpful. I can’t wait to return, I already have in mind what I would like to try next.

Really good jumbo tenders. The sides were also pretty good. I got the hot seasoning which was indeed hot and spicy. Nice location with seating inside and out. Very similar to hattie b.

The food is cooked to order so there is a bit of a wait but very much worth it ! Nice staff, great atmosphere. Food was delicious and seasoned well. The pickles were top quality. Definitely will be back.

It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t particularly great either. I had the hot chicken tenders and waffles which I liked a lot. The kids didn’t eat their grilled cheeses which were $11 each (?!?). My wife had the vegan sandwich which she said was ok but pretty dry.
Phil T — Google review
By far, the best chicken I've ever ate. The cornbread and slaw were also amazing. I can't wait to go back.
Nicole M — Google review
My first time at Eugene’s and they didn’t disappoint. The food was great and the service excellent. You’re able to sit in inside the restaurant or outside on the patio area. We chose the patio area on this beautiful Thursday day. I had the two-piece dark(hot)/waffle with collard greens and french fries with a side of Alabama white sauce for dipping and it was so good. My daughter had the chicken tenders and fries. The chicken is well seasoned. And my husband got the two-piece (hot)with collard greens and fries!!! Hot was not too hot, but just enough spice. Everything was great. We will definitely be back💕💕
Arika K — Google review
This is THE hot chicken place. It’s a formula and a recipe so perfected they are just coasting on the greatness of their ancestors. The perfect combination of heat and flavor, the sting on your lips lasts long after the last chicken finger is devoured. The sides are adequate but you don’t come here for that. You come for sweet spicy and incredibly consistent chicken and on that it delivers in spades.

Customers rave about the delicious coffees and smoothies, with popular choices including the Burmese latte and Havana Brown iced coffee. The cat-themed décor adds a cute touch without being overwhelming.
Passed two Starbucks to get to this independently owned small business. But that was not the best part. The service was friendly and accurate and the taste of the coffee was excellent. They know how to use that big beautiful LaMarzocco for sure. Add to that the ambiance of the sitting area was welcoming and warm with decor that gave a nod to the history of the most important beverage goat ever helped many to uncover. Well done on every level.

We were staying in a hotel nearby with rather limited and I ricy breakfast options. What a treat it was to find the Red Cat. Delicious food and coffee for every taste. Unfortunately, they were out of grits the day we visited, so we didn't get to try their breakfast bowls, but the pastries were amazing. The croissant for the sandwich was one of the best I had ever had. Cold brew and lates, perfect.

Red Cat Cafe is a cozy gem with delicious food and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The coffee was especially yummy—smooth, rich, and just what I needed. The cafe’s location near Railroad Park offers amazing views that make the experience even better. I loved the industrial decor—it added a unique and interesting vibe to the space. I would absolutely come back again for the coffee, the cozy ambiance, and the perfect park-side setting.

This has been one of my favorite places since moving to Birmingham. The staff has always been sociable and kind, and I love the chalkboard of them drawn as cats. The coffee is always perfect, and the food never disappoints. My favorite is the Bengal and any of the monthly specials!

This place is adorable and we enjoyed our visit. The pop tarts are pretty good, and my avocado toast was pretty good too. The staff was friendly and overall, we enjoyed our visit.

Top-notch breakfast sandwiches with perfectly balanced flavors! Their coffee bean selection is impressively diverse and the lattes are consistently superb. Highly recommended for all coffee and breakfast lovers!

This little shop was great. I met a friend here. I did not care for it's location not being from Birmingham. Parking was paid and difficult to find even in the late afternoon on a weekday.

Great location across the street from Railroad Park. Veggie Wraps, Frappes and Spanakopita is good for takeout. Had them several times. In the mornings on Sunday they have sweet and savory crepes. I like the Pepper Place building better. A very clean facility. Home made pop tarts are so good. Today I had the salted caramel latte, smoked Gouda grits and chocolate chip cookies. Coffee quality is always top. Peach muffins and Peanut Butter Banana Oat Bars are delicious and are baked from scratch.

SAW’s Soul Kitchen is a cozy BBQ joint with a charming pig-themed decor that specializes in Southern soul food. It's the sister restaurant to the popular Saws BBQ and offers a range of mouthwatering meats and menu items, including their famous pulled pork, smoked wings, fried green tomatoes, and white-sauce lathered smoked chicken thighs.
I asked what Saw’s is known for and he pointed to the Pork and Greens. I’m generally not a fan of greens (I’m not from the south 😬) but I have to say with the cheese grits and the onion rings they were great. The pork was tender and flavorful. The food looked so good the woman next to me asked if she could take a picture 🤣. The place was nearly packed so I was surprised how quickly my food came out. The staff were all great.

The restaurant is small and cozy, and I ordered my food for pickup. There weren’t many customers inside, but the service still felt a bit slow. I ordered the fried pickles with ranch, mac n cheese, and banana pudding. Fried Pickles: These were basically salty dill pickle chips with a crunchy breading. They had more of a dill seasoning flavor than actual pickle taste. The ranch had a strong dill kick too and was more tangy than creamy. If you love dill, you might enjoy it—but it was a little too much for me. Mac n Cheese: It was okay. A bit dry and lightly salted. I could taste some cheese at first, but the flavor kind of disappeared the more I ate. It ended up tasting mostly like plain noodles. Banana Pudding: This was the best part of the meal. It wasn’t overly sweet or artificial—just a nice, simple banana pudding. Overall, I probably wouldn’t go back. The food wasn’t terrible, but it felt a bit underwhelming, and the flavors didn’t live up to the hype I saw in the reviews.

The food at Saw's was truly incredibly good. The best BBQ I had on my trip to Alabama. The whole atmosphere and the look of the place were fantastic, and everything I read beforehand didn't overwhelm me. Saw's Soul Kitchen is definitely a must-visit if you're in Alabama, or rather, Birmingham.

Arrived on a Saturday late afternoon right between the lunch and dinner rushes. I believe there were 2 main floor staff. Initially, the greeting was direct but not much warmth. Not sure if staff was overwhelmed or understaffed. The server soon warmed up and the other server balanced out and was more engaging. The food was very good and with generous portions! The catfish was fluffy and wonderfully seasoned, a nice crunch without tasting super oily as it’s fried. Was also craving the fried green tomatoes and they were a lovely snack between meals with the school Sauce. The smoked chicken thighs were so succulent both in the red and white sauce. The Mac & cheese was also flavorful and beautifully baked, wish I got more. Lastly, the pulled pork was also very flavorful and smoky. We got here right in time because by the time we left, the place was full with the early dinner crowds and large groups.

Saw’s Soul Kitchen is always good. Might be too good. They’re around lunchtime. they had a line up place was full. Always Great Food. We will be back when I have more time. Thank you.

Wasn’t too bad. May be an acquired taste for some, but overall good. The vinegar sauce was interesting - so was the white BBQ sauce. Wasn’t totally okay with the sauces separately, but when I combined the two, they worked quite well together! Fried pickles were seasoned well (to my shock). I didn’t care too much about dipping them because the counteract was not as palatable as I expected. Mac was okay. Overall - pretty solid place.

An authentic dining experience with beautifully prepared meals. The onion rings on the pulled pork and greens were small and delicate and the flavour of the pork was mouth watering. No nonsense service and a feeling that this place had been here for ever. Loved it.

El Barrio is a stylish and elegant restaurant that offers modern Mexican cuisine in a creatively decorated setting. The interior boasts rich woods, bold art, and textures that create an inventive atmosphere. The menu features authentic Mexican flavors with innovative twists, offering fresh dishes with explosive tastes. In addition to the food, the restaurant also provides an excellent selection of drinks, particularly cocktails.
My wife and I drove to Birmingham from Atlanta to see Leon Bridges play at the new Coca Cola Amphitheater.. We had an Air B&B guest that is from the area and said this place was in my wheelhouse. We walked up and it had a good crowd already with a few couples waiting for tables.. We opted for the community seating table next to another couple going to the show. We were just inside to the left in a little area that was perfect.. We had the queso with the peppers and chorizo added to start and then moved on to the asada steak with a potato cake made with hatch chilies. My wife had the green chili enchiladas and some charro beans. Our waitress was great.. her recommendations were exactly what we were looking at and that made it easy. She was very attentive

Food and service was great. The atmosphere is nice, but a bit noisy due to the openness of the restaurant. The only negative I have about the food is the small portion size. And you need to order salsa as none is brought to the table automatically as in many restaurants with Mexican inspired cuisine. The bar is inviting and they also have daily specials that sound delicious.

The short ribs were very tender and very nicely seasoned. The potato taquitos were really good. The "El Barrio" margarita was excellent! The bartenders were nice and answered all our questions, as we were first timers. Our server kept a smile on his face and was super nice. Can't wait to go back!

Very lovely place with good prices. People were eating there midday on a weekday, which is always a good sign to me. Pepeto soup was light, delicious, unique, and filling. Plantain chips were a little oily tasting but still good.

Absolutely Excellent! I don’t do reviews often, and I’ve never done a review while still at the restaurant. This place is that good. This isn’t a Mexican restaurant — this is Mexican Cuisine. 5 stars. The only negative is that I’m traveling for work and my wife isn’t here with be to enjoy the experience. I’m in town for the next three days, I may eat here every night.

To start, parking is very hard to find (unless you pay) but location is great. Went on a Friday night, took us right in. However we were not expecting to share a table. It was a bit noisy and crowded in there, felt claustrophobic. Staff was nice, decent price for food, clean environment. Food was just okay. We both agreed it’s nothing special but we did enjoy our time. (We had cheese dip, beer, bacon quesadilla, and steak tacos)

Saw's BBQ is a popular barbecue joint in Birmingham, known for its snug and cozy atmosphere filled with signs and sports memorabilia. With multiple locations to choose from, including the original Saw's and the newer Saw's Juke Joint, this establishment has built an impressive reputation in the local BBQ scene. The service is efficient and friendly, offering delicious and reasonably priced meats such as perfectly seasoned barbecued chicken in white sauce, tender ribs, and mouthwatering pulled pork.
I knew this place was gonna be good once I opened the door and smelled the smoke.. ribs were tasty and tender, the pulled pork was so delicious and tender the chicken with Alabama white sauce was FIRE! Potato salad was awesome hell even the sliced bread was great here! I was so pleased with everything I bought a t-shirt highly recommend this place!

Came from out of state. The first thing I did was look at reviews and ask locals about good bbq. After making the decision to eat at Saw's, I had my next challenge of which one. With different menus, it was hard to choose, but the ribs were the deciding factor for me, so we went to Homewood and boy were they worth it! My family sampled the ribs (great - fall off the bone), pulled pork (great - moist/not dry), chicken (great - loved the white sauce), beans (good), potato salad (great), deviled eggs (ok), Mac n cheese (good) & greens (ok). Overall, very pleased and I would definitely recommend this establishment to anyone that wants to try some great bbq.

Fast service and fast delivery. The pulled pork plate had a nice portion with good flavor and tender meat. Baked beans seasoned well. I loved the fresh deviled eggs. Nostalgic Alabama football decor.

I am a BBQ connoisseur, and the BBQ at Saw's is the best I've ever eaten. The pulled pork and brisket are outstanding. Delicious smoky flavor, and if you want to add sauce it's all good. For appetizer, you have to try the fried pork rinds with pimento cheese topped with pepper jelly. The pork rinds are freshly fried and the combination of the pimento and pepper jelly is so good your taste buds will slap you.

Jordan Jackson and the Catering Team at Saw's Cahaba Heights is top-notch!! Very responsive, communicative, and *always* delivers the best food and service. Overall the restaurant and my experience was decent for making a to-go order. I realize that this was the original location for Saw's but I was disappointed to know that there were a few items on the menu that I wanted to order and that I had tried at other Saw's locations around Birmingham but they weren't on the menu at this location. The BBQ chicken sandwich was good, the service was fast and the atmosphere was decent because there were only a handful of people there when I visited so that was good for timing.

Niki's West is a renowned Southern buffet and meat-and-three restaurant that has been a staple in Birmingham since 1957. The cafeteria line offers an array of classic meat and three options, including favorites like macaroni and cheese, fried okra, turnip greens, yams, and banana pudding. In addition to the hot bar, there's also an à la carte menu featuring fresh seafood, steaks, and traditional Greek dishes.
What can be said that has not already been said? Outstanding service, solid food offerings, reasonable prices. If you want classic southern meat and 3 (plus plus plus), you owe it to yourself and your family to spend 2 hours at Niki’s. You will not be disappointed!

If you have low expectations and don’t care about the taste or texture of your food then this restaurant is totally for you. I can honestly say I’ll never return nor will I recommend this location to others unless they just want to experience the vibe. I feel gaslighted by the reviews left from others. I’ll start with the good. The bread pudding was great, very flavorful, very moist. I personally prefer bread pudding to be on the wet soft side vs dry. The rolls! Big ol fat dinner rolls. The only reason I would return here would be to buy rolls for a holiday or gathering of some sort. On to the bad. Fried catfish was tolerable, nothing I would ever think twice about. The bright orange Mac & cheese sucked. It’s very soft and mushy, lacked flavor yet had a very off putting taste. On to the mashed potatoes, sucked and had no flavor. Fried green tomatoes, bitter and lacked flavor. Corn bread = sucked. Collard greens, thumb down. No flavor, seasoning, no bacon or anything cook with it. Lots of steams and at types tasted bitter. Long story short there’s like no seasoning and the food left a lot to be desired.

Best restaurant in Birmingham! +UPDATE+ I just ate here again and got the lemon pepper catfish with extra filet, spinach and Mac. Everything is perfect.
Stuart A — Google review
My colleague recommended this spot for lunch as we were working nearby. She stated it’s always packed and boy was it! The parking lot has lots of spaces and an addition parking lot across the side street. Still, you may have a challenge finding a spot. For those of you familiar with K&W, this is very much like that. Cafeteria style, grab a tray and utensils then walk down the food displays and pick your meat, veggies, breads and desserts. You’ll get a ticket at the end of the line but you won’t pay until you leave. There was a gentleman that escorted us to a table. I didn’t experience that at K&W but it seemed to be helpful to keep the flow of things going smoothly. Servers will bring you your drink and anything else you may by way of condiments. I had the Greek chicken, which I thought would be more like chicken souvlaki in a skewer. In a rush, I didn’t look and it was baked chicken in Greek seasonings. I also got the fried green tomatoes and a side of rutabaga. Did I know what rutabaga was? No. But I liked the bright orange color of it and I’m adventurous. It was delicious and light. It’s a cross between turnips and cabbage. I enjoyed it! A little pricey for a lunch, in my opinion. But it’s fast and the food is fresh and tasty. I also had enough left over to take it home, so considering that’d the price wasn’t bad at all. I realized while making this review that there is a discounted price if you pay cash.

The food is not good. Lacks flavor . Arrived and the security guard advised a person with us he could not enter with a tank on . Wearing a nice bike set . Nothing showing or bad or revealing about the attire . The establishment is far from fine dining to even have a dress code .

My husband and I went to Niki's West for the first time knowing it was somewhat legendary. Honestly though, we were mildly disappointed in the food. It was ok, but nothing spectacular. For home cooking in the south, you can do much better elsewhere. The atmosphere was what you'd expect, nothing fancy but comfortable and clean. Our waitress was exceptional though. She was very attentive and we had everything we needed from ketchup to to-go drinks.
Mindy R — Google review
Niki’s is cafeteria style. The food is always very good, but the bread is always room temperature at best. They have a large variety of meats, vegetables, salads and desserts. They push you through the line a little too fast for me. I need a minute to decide what I want but they don’t give you much time even if they’re not crowded. You can easily spend $45 for two people. The wait staff is efficient and attentive. They’ve been around for many years but after Covid they reduced their days and hours. They are now closed on nights and weekends. Their bathrooms could use an update and/or a deep cleaning. We still go there occasionally because the food is good.

Rojo is a vibrant gathering place in the Highland Park neighborhood, offering a fusion of Latin and American dishes in a quirky, brick-walled space. The menu features an array of delectable options such as blackened tilapia tacos, paella, cheese steaks, corn dogs, and burgers. The restaurant also hosts various events including film screenings, viewing parties for sports games, and live music with great drink specials.
The atmosphere at Rojo is always fantastic — warm, lively, and inviting. On this visit, I enjoyed the Bacon Blue Burger with fries, and it remains my favorite burger topped with blue cheese anywhere in town. The flavors are rich, perfectly balanced, and consistently delicious. Rojo’s commitment to supporting the local community makes dining here even more rewarding. It was an alright restaurant. We got the nachos with chicken, the Fuego burger, and the mushroom Swiss burger. The chicken on the nachos was dry and the taste was ok. We also got the strawberry mango margarita. It was very sweet. I would potentially recommend it but I just feel the food wasn't great but alright.

I was in town for a family event and my son recommended this spot for brunch. The brunch is something they only offer on the weekends, from what I was told. We had a party of ten and sat outside on the patio. This is not an upscale or classy location that you’d expect in the gorgeous Birmingham area it’s located in. But I really loved the vibe! I can imagine what a cool spot it must be at night time with the spirits flowing and the atmosphere. The brunch menu didn’t offer an awful lot of options but we all got something we really enjoyed. I had the brunch sandwich, which my son recommended. It has jalapeño bacon and avocado. Need I say more?! It was so yummy! What I was impressed with was how incredibly fast our food arrived! We had no sooner ordered our food, paid for it, grabbed our drinks and sat down on the patio before the food arrived! All the servers were hardworking and pleasant. I hope to come back to this location and try some more of their dishes!

Love Rojo . A place that has been around for years yet hasn’t lost its charm. Food is always fresh, huge salads! Huge burgers! Great servers. The vibe is very laid back , walking your dog in the park and want to stop for a bite? Cool. You can sit outside on patio front and do so. It’s a great location, shaded by trees to just take in the great views of the area. If you’re not sure what you want, don’t want to get dressed up, want a casual date or place to have a few drinks on a lazy afternoon it’s perfect!

Rojo has great food and an exciting but comfortable armorer I order the fried fish tacos and they were delicious the fish wasn’t oily or over cooked and seasoned perfectly paired with the white salsa I could’ve ate 2 or 3 more. The serving size was appropriate for the cost and the quality. Good bar service very friendly bar tender who did a great job managing all the people. It can be bit noisy with all the people but we sat out side and it didn’t feel overwhelming. There was a slight mix up with our dessert order but they quickly fixed it and it was delicious. I enjoyed Rojo very much and will be dining there again.

The menu features an array of options including salads, soups, sandwiches, and entrees. Specialties include fluffy falafel, gyros, stuffed baked potatoes, tabbouli, hummus, baba ghanoush, falafel, stuffed grape leaves and various grilled meats.
The authentic Mediterranean place in Birmingham. We drove through town and looking for something flavorful and stumble upon this place. The price is incredibly inexpensive. The portions ridiculous. As we try to have a game plan to get to dessert, we couldn’t make it. The food is freshly made. Staff are friendly. You know it’s light when most people that walked in are Mediterranean.

This is a favorite restaurant of ours that we return to frequently. We always get the same thing because it is so good: Beef kebabs cooked medium-rare, Makarios salad with beets, and the soup. The quality of food is always fresh and delicious. The service is also consistently good. My only complaint is that sometimes the background music is a little bit loud. We tried the other location in Hoover and it wasn’t bad, but it did not equal the quality of this location. This is an excellent restaurant!

Hit up Makarios on our first night in Birmingham on a weekend trip. Food was fantastic. I went with the beef kabobs with rice and the lentil soup, my wife with the Chicken Shawarma. Our son went with the chicken strips. The lentil soup was hot and flavorful. The Beef Kabobs were cooked perfectly, and the rice was seasoned really well. The portions were generous the price. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well. She went with rice and grilled vegetables as her side as well as the garlic sauce. All of which she loved. The chicken strips and fries pleased the child as well. 10/10 will be grabbing some to-go items before we leave.

Hubby and I had some time to kill between dr appointments! We both ended up getting the gyro and fries and drink. Then ordered baklava and the creme caramel for dessert. The gyros were very good. Meat nice and tender with good flavor. Fresh tomatoes and onions. Tzitzki sauce was really good. The French fries were hot and salted nicely. The baklava was good. I did not care for the creme caramel. The flan was deflated and the texture was off. The homemade caramel sauce? Hmm.. didn't taste much like caramel and was VERY watery. We had arrived shortly by noon and there were maybe 8-12 people dining inside. By the time we finished, the original part of the building seating was full and they'd gone ahead and opened the larger added on room. (They were painting outside that room and it appeared they really hadn't to have to have diners watch them - but it quickly was filled! All-in-all? The dishes all sound great! If they taste like their gyros? Definitely a place we will hit up again!

Visited Birmingham on the way to Baton Rouge and tried this place based on the reviews. My wife and I shared the sampler for 2. Come here hungry because that thing can feed 4! The meats were flavored well and the baba ganoush has the perfect smokey flavor. Try this place and you won't be disappointed! Service was friendly.
Christopher Q — Google review
Love Mediterranean food, was in the mood while in town, and hit this spot due to the reviews. Ordered a gyro and some hummus, ready in about 10 minutes. I was a bit disappointed. The gyro only has three slices of meat, two onions, and two thin slices of tomatoe. The taziki sauce was good, but that's a compliment to the sandwhich, not the entire meal. Every other place, even the chain places, serves a more plentiful helping of meat with onion, tomatoe, lettuce, and sauce. The hummus was creamy, but all I could taste was the tahini: no lemon, no garlic. I'm sure it was in there, but i didn't taste it. Like I said, I was a bit disappointed with the meal as I've had much more for less from other places. I enjoy supporting local places and not chains restaurants, but this time it didn't work out. Its wasn't bad, but i felt for what I received for the price, it wasn't worth it.

Hanging out in Birmingham, AL on business for a few weeks and it's lunch time! How good can the Mediterranean be in Alabama of all places? Well, let's fine out! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on the corner of 20th Street South and 10th Avenue is this gem. It's well presented and looks super inviting. There is parking for a few cars in the front, but if I can remember there are more spots in the back or else, just park on the street since this is pretty close to downtown. Once inside the restaurant is pretty chill. There's LOTS of artwork hung up all over the place with plenty of straight up & down wooden booths to sit in. Once you walk in you can actually walk right up to a counter to place your order or you can choose table service of course. It was pretty chill in here the time that we came. Service: Service was just fine. Nothing crazy and he made sure that I had everything that I needed. Food: For my entree I went with the Shish Combo which comes with a shish kabob made of beef, shish tawook made of chicken and one kafta which is ground lamb, parsley and onion then served with a salad. Of course there's rice on the side. Everything was delicious, juicy, loaded with flavor and it felt authentic. The lamb was a lil' dry, but that was my only complaint. I loved the food here and it was SUPER filling for sure. Value: Back when I visited this combo was $28.59, but now it's $30.00. Not bad at all. Like I said, the food was filling so you could get more than one meal out of it and it was absolutely worth it. I'd certainly pay this place a return visit if I'm in the area. You should too!

The service was also fantastic, especially considering how short handed they were due to the labor shortage. They still worked hard to get us our food quickly and refreshed our coffee frequently.

My new favorite spot! Family friendly and easy in and out. The menu has so many great options to choose from making this a frequent breakfast stop in order to try everything. I’m already planning my next t trip! Love the healthy options available!

Went here for breakfast and enjoyed it very much. We had the Pepe Le French Toast and the Biscuits n' Gravy. The French Toast was great with sausage and bacon. There wasn't too much cream cheese between the French Toast but enough so that syrup really isn't needed. The biscuits n' gravy were good but the gravy was somewhat bland. Also, I prefer having sausage bits in my sausage gravy but there was none in this particular type. For some this may be good but for me, it left me a little wanting. Still this was a good atmosphere and good food.

Amazing food and service. Was greeted before we even walked in the door by Charles and everyone was really nice. The food was delicious and the coffee was smooth. We were traveling but would definitely come here again. Charles was not our server but was very friendly and made sure everything was running well. Not sure his position, but he should be manager for sure. He was awesome

Everything we ordered was delicious and crafted of rich, varied flavors. Service was excellent. Healthy options available. But the prime reason to go is the biscuits - I have not had a better biscuit in Birmingham!

Over Easy Breakfast is just plain old OVER GREAT! 2nd time and tried the Trifecta and let me tell you, it didn't disappoint. Again, light, airy, fluffy pancakes with Great tasting French Toast.

We had a celebratory breakfast here this morning after closing on our first house together! My fiancée for the eggs Benedict with hash browns, which was delicious. I got the Pepe le toast which was the perfect mixture of savory and sweet for me. They’re coffee has a wonderful flavor too.

Visiting from out of town and decided to stop here for breakfast. We are SO glad we did!! Amy was awesome and gave us great recommendations for food and places to visit at our next destination. The oatmeal pancakes were the best pancakes we’ve EVER had! Excellent service, great atmosphere and attentive staff! Thanks Amy, you’re the best! (:

Italian restaurant
Breakfast restaurant
Trattoria Zaza is a popular and cozy café known for its creative pizzas and other Italian dishes. The owners, with a deep appreciation for Roman cuisine and influenced by Southern and French culinary traditions, established the restaurant in 2009. The eatery quickly gained fame for its pizza al taglio, a light rectangular pizza that originated in Rome.
The food was excellent. Very fast service. And Tip and taxes were included in the price. If we are ever in the area again...we will be back!!
Shalonda F — Google review
Cliff notes: this wasn’t what I was expecting re a relaxing Italian place but that had pros and cons. They only do counter ordering so it makes it feel a bit impersonal but on the plus side you aren’t paying a service yo charge in the form of a tip. Ordering: the menu isn’t that big. The person who took my order was not unfriendly but she was also not warm and hospitable Food was delivered relatively quickly. My boyfriend got the baked Mac and cheese. I thought it had some unique flavors and was very tasty. I got some sort of white pasta that was fine but did not stand out. I probably would have added some pepper or red hot pepper but there is absolutely nothing on the table to add flavor. Also the pastas didn’t seem to have any meat so I thought they were a bit overpriced Just know if you want to feel like you are at a warm trattoria this isn’t the place, but you may still have an enjoyable meal if you know what to expect

Really good lunch spot we stopped into! The pizza and pasta were both delicious. We got the baked mac n cheese which was delicious with the goat cheese, and the ragu which could've used a bit more meat but was tasty. Service was friendly and the outdoor seating was lovely!! Would definitely come here again.

My recommendations are the breakfast pizza with the fried egg on top and a scone. Perfect meal!

We took advantage of an opportunity to go out for a family dinner on Monday evening, and Zaza was an easy choice. We arrived at about 6:30 to a lively but not packed restaurant. We took our time ordering but finally settled on food choices and decided to sit out on their street patio. We ordered a lot of food, knowing we'd bring some home. It can out quickly too, thanks to the always-friendly staff. I got the Fettuccine Garlic-Pecorino cream which was delicious. My wife got the Monday special Sweet Pea Falafel and it was the table favorite. It had fresh veg and the tzatziki had the perfect light tang. The Spinach & Arugula salad had chunks of tender chicken and thick slices of golden beets among tender greens. With the crushed pistachios on top, it was a texture and flavor winner. We also got a whole Porkalicious pie and it was loaded with meat. The crust was thick and crisp on bottom - just right. For dessert we got the tiramisu and strawberry shortcake. Those roasted strawberries make it a special treat. We all thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and will definitely be back.

We had heard great things about Trattoria Zaza since moving to Birmingham and decided to stop by for a Saturday morning brunch. The restaurant was in rough shape, with torn seating & dirty floors and tables. There were also several flies on the bread and pastries behind the counter. We thought it was a bit pricy given the rundown conditions and sanitation issues, but we did actually really enjoy the food! Only a couple flies bothered us while we were eating 🫠 French Toast: 9/10 The French toast was fluffy and delicious! It did feel a bit too heavy and sweet for one person after a bit, so we would definitely recommend splitting with a savory dish. Smoked Salmon Cream Cheese Bagel: 9/10 Very yummy and filling! Parking: Should be able to find street parking within a 5-10 minute walk of the restaurant.
A A — Google review
I have no experience eating in the restaurant (for now) so I cannot say anything about that. I have tried so many different dishes via delivery and everything is always so fresh and delicious. From the pastas to the pizzas to the desserts, everything is top notch. I especially recommend the BLT and summer tortellini salad. Also the Sicilian lemonades, there are different refreshing versions that they make throughout the seasons. I love that Zaza uses local, fresh, in season ingredients. They use eco-friendly packaging!! Their eco-friendly business practice is what makes me a supporter in addition to the wonderful food. I just love everything about this restaurant and I can't wait to visit in person.

Nestled in the heart of Southside, The Garage is a must-visit spot for anyone looking to enjoy lively conversations over cold beers and hearty pub fare. This unique dive bar boasts a charming rustic vibe with its concrete patio surrounded by quirky glass-doored garages filled with vintage treasures. Open since 2014, it has quickly become a local favorite where regulars gather whenever the weather permits.
Highly recommended by locals. Great place. Easy parking (may be different at peak hours). Staff were amazing. Walked us through order process. Ordered Reubens, which were excellent. Bar area at entrance and beautiful outdoor courtyard with plenty of seating. Prices were competitive. I would absolutely visit again.

Decent sandwiches, nothing super special from what my wife and I had. Courtyard is nice and relaxing. Good beer selection. Definitely not worth the 1 hour wait for food.

Didn't know what to expect as we walked in. Meal after Sunday message was the goal. Small but invitingly interesting. The menu consisted of sandwiches, soup, and tuna salad. The place is actually more of a pub as it had a vast beer selection. I had the Fritz, which was delicious and HUGE!! Enjoyed the meal and the experience.

Very unique place. Outdoor indoor seating. You have to buy and pay for your beer at the bar counter and then you get a table number for your food or you order at the counter as it’s sandwiches only. I had a good time. It’s something to check out

During our visit to the city, we were looking for a place to have a light meal and some drinks. This spot was recommended to us by someone in our group and it truly lived up to the hype. Our experience was fantastic - the food was delicious, the ambiance was incredible, the service was excellent, and they had a great selection of drinks. We will definitely be returning on our next trip to Birmingham.

So much more than Just a Sandwich!! I've been dying to try this Birmingham staple. The Garage was originally a storage spot for leisure cars back in the day when people didn't have 3 car garages. Now littered with antiques, a charming courtyard and some amazing build your own sandwiches it's a gathering place that's perfect for conversation and a relaxing evening with friends and family. It definitely gives The Wine Cellar vibes with a local flare and excellent, personable service. We were greeted at the door by a gentleman that had secured that spot for over 20 years. It's a must try the next time you are in town!!

Steel City Pops is a popular spot known for its gourmet popsicles, offering a wide range of flavors from buttermilk to bourbon. Even in winter, visitors can enjoy special treats like the chocolate-dipped strawberry pop. This unique creation allows customers to customize their dipped pops with various chocolates, toppings, and sprinkles. The store takes pride in using organic and locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.
Steel City Pops is the best! Very fun flavors and options for eating your popsicle. Today they didn’t have as many options and were out of a few flavors of soda for the pop floats, but I still enjoyed a blueberry cheesecake pop float! Perfect for the hot summer day (or really any day of the year at that). Staff are very friendly and the location is really fun with great modern yet simple decor. I highly recommend visiting Steel City Pops, it won’t disappoint!

Steel City Pops is one of the MUST DO places when we visit Birmingham! No other "gourmet" popsicle place can compare. You can taste the quality ingredients! Their dedication to creating small batches, using the best and freshest ingredients really shines through. I can honestly say I've enjoyed every flavor I've ever had, including Pine! You have to check out Christmas flavors! They rotate, so there's no telling if you'll get wassail, gingerbread, eggnog, peppermint, Apple cinnamon, pomegranate, or any of the many other holiday flavors! Don't worry, they'll have many of the tried and true faves there as well, like buttermilk, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry lemonade, and many more. There's something for everyone, as long as you like frozen sweet treats!

T-Bone's Authentic Philly Style Cheesesteaks And Hoagies is a must-visit spot for anyone craving hearty sandwiches in a vibrant atmosphere. This Southside gem features an inviting counter-service setup adorned with colorful graffiti art, creating a lively dining experience. Their signature T-Bone Steak 12 sandwiches are generously filled with steak, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, and creamy white American cheese—all perfectly toasted to enhance the flavors.
One of the best spots in Birmingham. Quality with no fancy frills. It draws a great cross section of folks and many loyal regulars. The great smells hit you as soon as you go through the door and then it only gets better from there. Haven’t had a bad bite to eat there. Staff is always great and welcoming. You get a lot of bang for your buck and can usually get two meals off of one order.
William D — Google review
I have a great love for philly cheesesteaks, but it's hard to find the particular style of sandwich I prefer. Not provolone or the original cheeze whiz/cheddar cheese sauce for me. White American cheese, and marinara over the whole thing. And that's precisely what T-Bones delivers. Went for lunch on a Saturday and they were fairly busy, but not packed. No nonsense joint, grill open to the dining room. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Sandwiches are made to order, so took about 10 minutes for our food to be ready. Impressively extensive menu beyond the cheesesteaks, too! Ordered a 6" pizza steak, 6" philly cheesesteak with pizza sauce added, and cheese fries. Sandwiches were fantastic; plenty of filling, great quality buns. Cheese fries were solid, with actual cheddar sauce and not nacho cheese. Be advised, they do charge ($.75 in winter 2025) for water.

Returning to T-Bones restaurant on Southside after five years was an absolute joy. Despite the passage of time, the quality of the food and the exceptional customer service remain unchanged. 👍Seeing the owner again after so long was heartwarming. 🥰I ordered a Philly cheese steak sandwich, and it was just as delicious as I remembered. If you haven't experienced T-Bones yet, do yourself a favor and make it a priority to visit soon. You won't regret it!🙌💯

By far one of the worst experience I experience in Birmingham and it’s been plenty. They sell hoagies and by me being from Chicago we sell hoagies and I was expecting what I seen in the pictures and it was something totally different. No oil, no oregano, no red onions just toasted bread and sandwich meat with Mayo, mustard and pickles! They need to do better, if you menu says one thing then that’s exactly what you should sell and if you can’t multi task with other options on your menu then you shouldn’t have it at all!! Bad experience is an experience I don’t want to experience no more so I would never visit this place again!!! First two pictures is what they advertise and say pictures is what I WAS SOLD

Thai restaurant
Blue Pacific at Hoover Food Mart is a surprising gem that offers classic Thai cuisine within the convenience market of a gas station. Originally gaining attention as a no-frills counter, it has since transformed into one of the city's most esteemed restaurants for authentic Thai dishes. The restaurant, run by Thai natives who relocated to the U.S., has garnered a devoted following among Birmingham food enthusiasts.
Probably my favorite local nondescript restaurant in the Birmingham area. With the severe lack of variety in Asian food, this is a gem. Can’t really go wrong with whatever you order, everything tastes great. Parking can be tough during peak hours but it’s manageable. Calling in can be tough too, but if you can’t get in, just go there, order and wait.

Parking is difficult. Beef nom Tok is absolutely delicious. Coconut soup is pretty good too. Masaman curry isn't so good.

We drive 90 miles to come to this place. The food is awesome & so are the people. We’ve been known to order twice in one day just to take some home. We get the Spicy Basil & PadPrik Sot… so tasty!

No-nonsense hole in the wall Thai place in a repurposed gas station convenience store. Placed an order for pickup for lunch on a Saturday, and it was ready when we arrived (about 15 minutes frok call to pick up). Staff was friendly. Appears to be some seating indoors, but it wasn't open when we were there. Also some picnic tables outside. Ordered chicken pad thai, veggie pad pak, and 2 spring rolls. Rolls were excellent, and the pad pak and pad thai were very good. Certainly can't beat the prices!
Bryan C — Google review
Loved everything about this place! Food was fresh, amazing, so delicious. I read they were short staffed, but we got our food in an exceptionally timely manner. They even walked it out to our car. ⚠️ ‼️. This place is highly addictive. I been trying to sleep through Mon and Tuesday because they open on Wednesday (today) and I can’t wait to return!!!! Haha. The food is amazing, I could go on and on. I got the crab fried rice and wings and it literally melted in my mouth. Okay, I’m done. See you guys today🤣🤣🤣
Jennifer W — Google review
Blue pacific is one of my favorite places to eat in the Birmingham/Hoover area. My husband and I go at least once a week and have never had a bad meal there. They are open Wednesday thru Saturday and you best believe as soon as they open at 5pm the phone is ringing off the hook. Our go-to’s are pad thai (the best I’ve had anywhere in Birmingham), pad kee mao, masaman curry chicken and coconut soup. If you place an order around dinner time it’s usually a 20-45 minute wait, but so worth it! They do have a few picnic tables outside but mostly do pick-up. The parking situation can be tight but there are other places to park nearby. I hope this place doesn’t change, they’re doing everything right!
Sarah B — Google review
The most amazing Thai food i’ve ever had. Some dishes are better than others but the spicy basil, basil fried rice, and pad thai never misses. There’s a wok hei smell from them using a wok properly. Pad thai should be eaten immediately to prevent noodles from getting soggy. Prices are also very reasonable. I’m here almost every week.
Tuyen — Google review
I’ve always been a fan of the delicious Vietnamese cuisine at Blue Pacific, with their fried rice standing out as a true highlight. The flavors are spot on, showing their commitment to quality, which has impressively maintained even after the challenges brought by the pandemic. However, the lack of indoor seating is a downside, especially during unfavorable weather conditions. It would be greatly beneficial if the restaurant could reintroduce some form of indoor or sheltered dining to enhance the overall experience. Despite this, Blue Pacific continues to be my top spot for exquisite Vietnamese fried rice.

Helen is a new restaurant in Birmingham, located on Second Avenue North. It offers a regional menu with a modern twist on Southern classics, cooked on a wood-fired grill. The venue is named after chef Rob McDaniel's grandmother and focuses on veggie-forward dishes and grilled proteins. The restaurant provides a relaxed atmosphere for lunch or dinner, serving locally sourced food with an emphasis on sustainability. Customers have praised the rustic ambiance and flexibility of the staff.
After years of anticipation, we finally dined at Helen, and it was truly worth the wait. Undoubtedly, it was the finest meal I’ve ever experienced in Birmingham. The drinks were expertly crafted, the service was impeccable, and the food was extraordinary! For the best experience, I’d recommend ordering family style, allowing you to sample multiple proteins and sides. Each dish was a delight in its own right, offering a rich blend of flavors that left a lasting impression. Helen is a must-visit for anyone seeking a high-end dining experience in the city.

You would be hard pressed to find a better restaurant than Helen for lunch or dinner in Birmingham. You have to start with the biscuits. They are fluffy and the butter they serve them with is perfectly sweet with a bit of a butterscotch flavor. We could have simply eaten them for all 4 courses of our meal. We went during lunch. Of the mains, our group liked the Schnitzel and chicken thighs. We also got the corn ribs and potatoes. The potatoes were the clear winner between the two. For dessert, we shared the peanut butter pie. The perfect ending to a great lunch.

Such a great experience! Our waiter Matthew was awesome—super knowledgeable, polite, and gave us just the right amount of attention without hovering. He really made the night enjoyable. The food was delicious, and the biscuits are a total standout—you’ll see them on every table, and there’s definitely a reason why!

This restaurant is top notch! I’m from out of town, and was in birmingham for the weekend. I had dinner reservations somewhere else for the wife and I and ended up canceling once we came across this place. They welcomed us last minute. Walked in and the restaurant smelled so good. Was seated and promptly welcomed with a glass of water. We ordered the biscuits (are pictured) as the appetizer and the butter was SO good. we split a salad, that was so fresh and the dressing was light. She had the roasted chicken and i had a CAB Filet, and we shared some potato’s. The potato’s were really good with a nice crust on the outside and soft on the inside. Chicken was good, and the filet was one of the best ones i’ve ever had. Spot on! Our waiter also mentioned that they change the menu every few days which is great because the same thing gets old. We also got two drinks, that were really good as well. Ease of access is important to me when rating a restaurant, and most downtown restaurants don’t cut it. Luckily i was staying across the street and was able to walk, but for their sake i will say there is a parking garage across the street. If im ever back in Birmingham, I WILL be back!

Had an absolutely amazing meal! Our server, known as Couch, was fantastic all the way around. Calm and cool while so thoroughly immersed in the food and sourcing of the ingredients. The vibe of the restaurant was cozy, warm and eclectic. An absolute must visit 💯 As a private chef, regenerative farmer & consultant, and food enthusiast to my core, I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. I’m still thinking about the meal days later! Go, now, this is your permission slip if you didn’t need one.

If you’re looking for a place that perfectly blends Southern charm with upscale dining, Helen in downtown Birmingham delivers on all fronts. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt welcoming and stylish—with exposed brick, natural lighting, and elegant touches that created a cozy yet refined setting. I ordered the short rib, and let me just say: this dish is a showstopper. It arrived with such a generous portion that I nearly slipped into a meat coma from the sheer amount of tender, flavorful beef falling off the bone. Topped with a creamy sauce that balanced richness with a touch of tang, it was easily one of the most satisfying entrees I’ve had in a long time. The staff here are incredibly attentive and genuinely helpful. They offered great insight into the menu, which is à la carte—perfect for mixing and matching. And don’t worry about the sides being skimpy; they’re served in large enough portions to share comfortably. This isn’t an everyday spot (unless you’re really treating yourself), but it’s ideal for special occasions, celebrations, or a romantic night out. Everything from the ambiance to the food presentation speaks to thoughtfulness and quality. Highly recommend giving Helen a try. Bring your appetite—and maybe someone to share dessert with, because you won’t want to skip it.
Teakeyman — Google review
It would get a higher score if they had vegan options in their menu. Only item I could have was their sorbet and it had honey in it. That is not an issue for me but it wouldn't be hard to accommodate one single dish for that crowd. The downstairs bar was next to the exposed kitchen and the heat from the grill was so intense we had to move seats. Easily fixable with better design work. The service was above and beyond, tho.
Gabriel M — Google review
The highlight of our meal at Helen was, without question, the biscuits. Absolutely out of this world and worth remembering. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal didn’t live up to that first impression. We ordered the ribeye steak medium rare (which should be warm red in the center, fading to pink toward the edges), but what we received was closer to blue rare. At this price point (around $100 for the cut), you expect precision in execution, and ours lacked the proper pink interior entirely. There also seemed to be a heavy reliance on tomato purée across several dishes. Not a deal-breaker, but noticeable enough to feel repetitive. The okra medley was forgettable, and while the Yukon gold potatoes had an interesting take, they didn’t wow. On a positive note, the ambience was phenomenal. Romantic, stylish, and a great setting for a special night out. But with the elevated prices, I expected more consistency and control from the kitchen, especially with something as fundamental as steak doneness.

Shu Shop is a trendy and laid-back establishment located in downtown Birmingham's theater district. It is known for its Japanese ramen noodles, various toppings, snacks, and small plates. The bar-centric izakaya offers a rotating selection of original cocktails, sake on draft, and an extensive whiskey collection. Shu Shop has become a go-to spot for late-night dining in the city since its arrival in 2017.
Shu Shop is a great ramen restaurant in downtown Birmingham. The ramen was delicious and the cocktails were very good. I usually don’t like ginger in my drinks but the hostess insisted so I tried it and I was pleased I did. The only thing I can take away from service is that we were told 15-20 minute wait but it ended up being 60-65 minutes. The inside had very nice mood lighting. And the staff were very nice and professional. I will def be coming back for more!

Shu Shop delivers a moody, hip izakaya experience in Birmingham. Selection of ramens, small plates and cocktails. Place has wide selection of alcohol and service was great and quick. I took the edamame and tuna tataki and both were great and delicious. Food portions was on the smaller side and prices on the higher end but still a fun spot for a night out. Love the decor. Definitely a great place to take a date. I recommend 👌

One of my favorite restaurants in downtown Birmingham. The ambiance is great, not noisy at all and with a very cool vibe. Service is top-notch and the food is amazing. The ramen is cooked to perfection with layers of flavor.

This is definitely one of the best ramen spots in the Birmingham metro area. On this trip we had the spicy miso ramen, the tonkotsu ramen, the brussel sprouts, and edamame. Our bowls were great. The only issue is the pork was a little tougher than we were expecting. The Brussel sprouts were definitely the highlight. If you are a Brussels fan, these were some of my favorites. The edamame was average. I usually prefer my edamame served warm with some salt, and maybe a little spice. These were served cold with no seasoning. All and all, it’s definitely a repeat spot.

Strange bitter taste, we both tried to eat them but they were definitely offensive to our palate. I told the waitress multiple times that we did not like them and couldn’t eat them. She never had a response. I spoke with the host about the taste. He then said he would have the manager to come by. The manager never came to the table! He sent a message by the server that it wouldn’t be removed from the check and he was sorry that it wasn’t good. Horrible customer service!!!! Never mind all the other items that we purchased! NEVER AGAIN!!!! Cook good food and maybe this won’t be an issue!

I have ate at this restaurant about 5 times now and NEVER had an issue with food and service. I do get this one particular waitress that is not really mean nor friendly and it’s off putting. Imagine trying to eat your food and you kind of have someone watching and hovering over you? I’ve had her twice and each time I felt weird. Particularly today, I ordered the peach ice cream and matcha cookies and I did not like it because the cookies were hard, had no flavor and the icecream had a very strong alcoholic flavor that left a BAD TASTE in my mouth, it just doesn’t work well. . I was not a fan of this because it was not mentioned in the description. I asked for it to be removed because I did not not eat it and I was told “ item can’t be removed because you do not like it” and I found it to be a very weird policy especially if you see the whole item is untouched and customer asked for check to pay for the rest of the items BUT that one. I will continue to come here but I am not a fan of some of the waitress/waiter’s attitude. IAN is a great waiter!! He was so kind to me and my friends whenever we got assigned to him! The crab claws and spicy miso ramen TASTE SO GREAT THOUGH! 🩷

Chris Z's (Catering Only) in Birmingham is a favorite among breakfast and lunch enthusiasts. The menu features straightforward and unpretentious options such as burgers, sandwiches, hotdogs, and breakfast staples served in generous portions at fair prices. The "Big Nasty" dish, consisting of hash browns with a choice of meat and two eggs on top, comes highly recommended for those looking for a filling meal.
Great food! Great People! Feels like home everytime I walk in.

A favorite breakfast and lunch place. Affordable, tasty food and good portions. The Big Nasty which is hash browns with a choice of meat and two eggs on top is highly recommended. A meal that will last you all day. If that's too much, they also offer a Little Nasty which is half size. Omelets are also recommended. Must try lunch sometime. Tried the Chris Z dog, for breakfast yet. Highly recommended if you're a hot dog person at all. A large weiner is butterflied and grilled to brown perfection then placed on a bun and smothered in their special sauce and all the other trimmings. A super example of the Birmingham hot dog. Recently raised rating from 3 to 4 stars. Consistently good.

I had the big nasty and it was great. Today was my first time trying this place.

We ordered The Big Nasty (HUGE), Omelet Z (loaded meat omelet), & Smoked Sausage, Egg, & Cheese Biscuit. It was all delicious! To be honest I picked this place because they had a parking lot (needed on that day) (as opposed to street parking), which is hard to find in Birmingham! But I am so glad we chose this one. The staff was phenomenal! Diner atmosphere with great food. We will be back.

Good food at a good price. Greasy hole in the wall places, like this, will always be a favourite of mine. Straightforward, unpretentious, menu featuring burgers, sandwiches, hotdogs, and a few breakfast staples in sufficient portions at fair prices. Definitely worth a visit. For those with allergen concerns: as of my visit here (7/January/2020), they fry using vegetable oil. (Best to call and confirm before your own visit, just to be sure)

Mexican restaurant
Taco Mama - The Waites is a laid-back Tex-Mex restaurant located in Birmingham, with multiple locations across the south. Known for its straightforward approach to Tex-Mex cuisine, it offers a variety of options including burritos, tacos, and chips with dip. One of its highlights is the customizable nachos where you can choose from unlimited toppings and protein options such as grilled shrimp or flounder.
What a joy it was to find this place! Expected your typical run-of-the-mill Mexican and was pleasantly surprised that this was more authentic than not. Prices also seemed a bit steep until you saw the portion sizes- a burrito, side, and chips/salsa for less than $15 is crazy. Grilled shrimp burrito was the way to go, and the margarita was a pleasant surprise as well. Bravo for going the extra mile with these recipes.

I realized the service was great as soon as we stepped in the restaurant by being greeted and offered menus, we had our food within 5 minutes (on a weekday), and it was delicious! Everything tasted fresh and was warm. First time to a Taco Mama and would definitely go back! The entire place was clean as well. It was somewhat hard to find parking! You need to pay for a spot near the restaurant, but it's less than $5.

One of the best salads in long time!! The salad dressing gave an unique taste to the fish and the extra cilantro (upon my request) yum 😋

Taco were good. The wall said the guacamole was best in town. Took a bite and mouth drew up it was so salty (and I suffer from hyponatremia). Tried it w a chip (cold and unsalted), same reaction. Don't brag on food then sell something inedible due to salt.

I reached out to manager Lee to reserve a spot for my family who traveled from three different states to participate in the 15th annual Rumpshaker 5k race @regionsfield yesterday Immediately after the race we dined here... Super nice atmosphere that allowed us to fellowship as well as celebrate my mom's 16th Colon Cancer Free-Versary ! And not to mention the delicious food and portion sizes. The waiters & store manager Jeremy were very attentive. Jeremy did his very best to cater to my 90 year-old grandfather also, Although my mom already dines here three times per week, the rest of our family will be back to enjoy. Thanks for an enjoyable day and your consistent hospitality. #hardystrong

Greek restaurant
Tasty Town is a modern Greek restaurant located at The Lumen by Railroad Park. It offers a bright and open atmosphere, serving delicious Greek food and cocktails/mocktails. The restaurant provides an Instagrammable space with excellent service, delightful food, beautiful presentation, and reasonable prices. Customers have been thoroughly impressed with the dining experience and highly recommend it. The spacious and clean dining room features a cool bar in the middle of the restaurant.
Absolutely loved my experience here! Food was delicious, vibes were immaculate, and service was superb! They are also very allergy/dietary-restriction friendly which is a plus. The hummus was actually the best thing I’ve put in my mouth. I also loved their lemon potatoes so much - tastes like dessert. I feel like this would be a great place to grab drinks and appetizers/sides at with a friend. The atmosphere was so amazing - absolutely loved the retro theming. Staff were all so lovely and helpful! Will definitely be going back!!
Emi M — Google review
We decided to try Tasty Town for a late lunch after hearing mixed reviews. We walked into high ceilings and clean modern atmosphere. They have what seemed to be a decent bar near wide windows with a view of the street and railroad. The food was less than satisfying. We both wanted lamb but were advised that for over $50 we would receive 3 small chops so we opted out. We ordered the greek chicken that was not hot or well seasoned and came with rubbery undercooked skin. The sides; stewed green beans lacked seasoning and were also luke warm, rice was just rice no pilaf to it, lemon potatoes had a nice lemon flavor and the village salad was as described. We also ordered the Garden Hummus which came with a tablespoon of yellow peppers only on top & spanakopita, received 3 which though good both appetizers were worth $6-8 at the most not over $10. The attempt at a fine dining establishment I think is a miss at Tasty Town. This was far from a fine or even satisfying dining experience. I left feeling robbed and still hungry.

The service and food quality are superb and reliable. The hummus annd spreads anre my favorite and pita (made in house) takes it over the top. Atmosphere is nice, clean, uncluttered, and cool with a view of the beautifully landscaped Railroad Park. One of my favorite go-to restaurants in the Magic City.

The infamous LaDarrius Hutcherson was here eating when me and my coworker were ordering, that was a sign!!! I ate a little of this and that. The catfish is southern fried perfection and the lemon potatoes amazing!! The service was excellent and quick. I will be returning and you should too!

For the most part everything has a citrus Greek theme. I ordered the Greek Chicken which was a leg quarter with Lemon Potates and Spinach Rice. I love Greek chicken but the chicken was just okay for me. The lemon potatoes were really good but I wish they had some crisp to them. Now I didn't like the spinach and rice, the rice was undercooked and paired with spinach, it tasted like 2 competing sides mixed together and not seasoned to complement each other. I was warned by one of the customers at the bar but I'd already ordered 🤦🏾‍♀️. They recommended the Sautéed Gulf Shrimp extra sauce with a Greek Salad in the future.
Tena J — Google review
Will perhaps return for happy hour and hummus, but not dinner. The pastichio was not fresh and the noodles were far past al denté. And the flavor was just not there for the pastichio or the salad - both were under seasoned I believe. I’ve ordered the tzatziki one two different occasions and liked it neither time. The atmosphere is gorgeous but it was completely dead when we were there during a weekday happy hour. The hummus is the best I’ve ever had. Someone had taken time to post a sign on the restroom soap dispenser saying “out of order” but had provided no alternate soap. Huh?!

Delicious Greek and Mediterranean fare served up by friendly folks at a reasonable price - make sure to stop in and check them out! My daughter and I stopped in here for dinner on a Friday night in November 2024. It was not crowded and we found a parking spot nearby. We were warmly greeted, then seated quickly. Our server was super helpful and offered up a few of her favorite items to choose from. We opted for a hummus appetizer which was great! We received 2 pitas and she then brought us more when we finished those and still had plenty of hummus left. We both enjoyed our entrees and would highly recommend the Greek Chicken and Braised Lamb Shoulder Pita Sandwich. We were too full tonight for dessert but hope to try that next time.

Indian restaurant
Taj India is a popular Indian restaurant located at 2226 Highland Ave., Birmingham, AL 35205. It offers a variety of traditional Indian dishes, including chicken tandoori, lamb tikka masala, and curries. The restaurant is known for its amazing staff and authentic Indian cuisine that has received high praise from visitors. Whether you choose to order from the menu or enjoy the buffet, Taj India promises a hospitable atmosphere and delicious food.
We had a very good first experience at Taj India, with one exception but I’ll get to that later. We went for dinner on a Wednesday evening arriving about 5:15, we were the only ones there at the time (they reopen for dinner at 5) and were seated promptly. The waitress returned to the table very shortly after seating us with a flask of cold water and a complimentary serving of some sort of a very thin “flatbread” with two sauce options. One sauce was brown and sweet, the other green and spicy. I’m not real well versed on Indian food to tell you what they actually were, but they were tasty. I personally preferred the green sauce. My wife, not liking spicy food opted to eat hers without sauce. She said there was something a little spicy in the flatbread she thought. Our order was taken, my wife ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and we expressed to the waitress that she did not like spicy food. So she offered, “so, you want no spicy?” And we responded, “Yes, please.” I opted for the Mixed Grill that had a bit of a sampling, Chicken Tikka, Lamb Tikka, Chicken Tandoori, and Shish Kabobs. I had also read reviews about how good (and large) their garlic naan was, so we ordered that to share. After a short wait another server brought out very hot plates to use for our entrees. Our food arrived and as we started to eat my wife said her mouth was on fire. She can be very sensitive to spicy food so I tried hers and it was quite spicy. This was the only negative thing about the meal. She couldn’t eat much because of the spice. If they weren’t able to prepare the ordered dish to be not spicy we wish they would have told us that or recommended a different dish that would not be spicy. It came with basmati rice that was prepared well. I honestly have a slightly mixed review of my Mixed Grill, no pun intended. The chicken & lamb tikka both had a good flavor but were very, very dry. The chicken tandoori was good, but the star of my dish was the lamb shish kabob, so delicious and moist. Again, I don’t know much about Indian food. I had to ask the waitress what the shish kabob was. I would definitely order just it as an entree in the future. Maybe the tikka meats are meant to be eaten with other sauces to not be so dry? I don’t know. Still an Indian food newbie. The garlic naan bread was also fantastic. If you have a meal here and don’t order it, you’re missing out! The ambiance is very nice, slightly upscale without being pretentious. Many nice little details from the cloth tablecloths and napkins. To the hammered metal drink cups and matching silverware. We had a good experience, just need to figure out a more acceptable dish for my wife that is not spicy. I’d love some suggestions. Price to portions ratio is good. I could only eat about half of my meal, my wife, not even half but mostly because it was too spicy.
Bryan R — Google review
Food is very basic, don't expect that you will have good tasty food like you see in reviews. We ordered Kadhai Chicken, Garlic Naan, Keema Naan, Taj Special Briyani, Chole Bhature and Gobi Paratha. Instead of briyani we were given Pulao and were informed that briyani is made like this only. About Chole bhature the Chole was not fresh. Bad experience, would not recommend.
Rubul C — Google review
I really love the new location and atmosphere!; truly a must try experience! The AYCE Lunch buffet is a hidden gem; the flavors of every selection were perfect as prepared. ❤️😋 My only suggestion was for more non-spicy options. 🤔
Jeremy P — Google review
Ordered chicken biryani and it was terrible, tasted more like Indian pickle rice than actual biryani. A few chicken pieces were burnt, and some cold rice balls clearly showed it wasn’t freshly made. This isn’t even close to an actual biryani.

Great portions and just fantastic. The pompadoms were delicious. Thank you all for a fabulous experience. The 3 from Panama City..:)

The onions were freshly sliced and the dishes were amazing. I tried the Rose lasse. It looked like pepto but tasted like delicious roses. My helmet smelled like roses all the way home and I loved it. I want to deduct like a half star because the dumpster is by the front door and you have to choke in the miasma of hot summer dumpster to get in the establishment but the food is worth it

Absolutely incredible meal! Service was top notch and so welcoming. Started with an old school old Forrester old fashioned and pimento cheese with warmed toast. Sooooo good. Highly recommend the Asian Chicken & Waffles! Crystallized ginger waffle, fried chicken with soy maple syrup, black sesame seeds, cilantro & scallion. Hubby had a HUGE pork chop with mashed potatoes & gravy.

John's is the place to go when you want comfort food and carbs really, really don't count. Everything we ordered was wonderful once we made the decision to throw all dietary restrictions out the window. I particularly liked the pickled okra atop the mac and cheese - perfect pairing! We were slightly underwhelmed with the drink choices but what they did have was well prepared.

Really good food and nice evening for a Thursday night bite to eat. We had the meatloaf and seared porkcop. For the price of food, the ambiance should of been better. The pork belly starter was tasty but not for the price and portion. ($14). In a nutshell, if we pass thru Birmingham again and hungry, we'd stop back.

We were traveling to Atlanta and stopped in downtown Birmingham after the lunch rush. The dinner was clean with a pleasant atmosphere. The waiter gave us his suggestions for lunch and then stepped back and let is choose. My husband had the meatloaf, smashed potatoes with mushroom brown gravy. He stated it was good but could have used a little onion or green pepper for flavor. I had the pork chop dinner. The chop was well seasoned, the smashed sweet potatoes were tasty and the garlic sauteed spinach was fantastic. All for about $20 each. The waiter was nice and engaged us in conversation.

Nestled in Birmingham's vibrant Lakeview district, Hattie B's Hot Chicken has carved out a niche for itself as a must-visit destination for food enthusiasts. This Nashville-born eatery has garnered attention from various culinary shows and publications, solidifying its status in the local dining scene.
My husband and I had a great experience at Hattie B’s Birmingham. Darlona was our server and she was very nice. We decided on the Fried 2 Tenders Plate- Mild. My husband’s side was the Creamy Red Skinned Potato Salad, and I got mine with Baked Beans. We tried each other’s sides and both were excellent. The Tenders were hot and delicious. We shared a peach cobbler for dessert- I must say, it was one of the best we’ve had at a restaurant. We enjoyed the food and highly recommend.
Donna D — Google review
I absolutely adored this place. I went on a Saturday for lunch and while the line was long it did not take long to get to the counter and for the food to come out to the table. They know their chicken. They have a spice level for every type of person. It was my first time trying this place so we got the Hot Fried Chicken Sandwich and the Dirty Bird Fries. It was definitely a great lunch experience. (I also got a shirt! Their shirts are comfort colors by the way.)
Justin A — Google review
Fried chicken was absolutely delicious. Mac n cheese was good. Pimento cheese was a different flavor but I liked it. Peach cobbler was average. I would definitely eat that chicken and mac again.
Carlos N — Google review
I've been here a handful of times. Their chicken tenders are consistently good, in size, texture and flavor. Their fries are not a standout by any means, they're pretty average. The bread/toast? that comes in with the tenders isn't great and is lacking. The wait times are pretty decent. The place is clean. They have their own parking lot, it always looks full but the times I've been I've always found parking.
Markus W — Google review
First time trying Hattie’s. The employee that took our order wasn’t very friendly but also not exactly rude. I got their new salad. It was so fresh and delicious! The ranch is not the homemade “good” ranch (IYKYK), but still very enjoyable. I got the medium heat index. It was a bit hotter than I expected, but still within the range of heat I can consume. The seating in the restaurant isn’t the most comfortable. You have the choice of metal chairs or wooden benches. There is also an outdoor covered patio. I’d definitely go back to try other menu options.
Renee H — Google review
Hattie B’s absolutely deserves every bit of its reputation! I ordered the Chicken Finger Plate, and it was nothing short of amazing. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, and juicy on the inside every bite packed a burst of flavor that made it hard to put the fork down. The spice level was just right, giving that signature Hattie B’s kick without overpowering the taste. The french fries complemented the meal perfectly fresh, flavorful, and comforting. The portion size was generous, and the food came out hot and fresh. The staff was friendly and attentive, creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a regular, Hattie B’s never disappoints. It’s the kind of place you look forward to coming back to time and time again. If you love great fried chicken, this is the spot! Five stars all the way for the food, service, and overall experience!
Jerome J — Google review
Honestly, I was a bit disappointed. I’d heard great things, so I had to give it a try. The tenders were crispy and cooked well, but the Nashville hot flavor fell short—it brought heat without the rich flavor you’d expect from a true Nashville hot. The fries were decent, but nothing memorable. I didn’t go during peak hours, yet it still took a little while to get my food—not terrible, but noticeable. I think the prices were perfect.
Sai M — Google review
This was a cute spot to stop at, with very friendly staff and good food. First time at a Hattie B’s and I would visit again to try some new options if I’m near one again in the future. The chicken was crispy and delicious. The greens were a little bland for what I’m used to, but not bad. I added a side of the red skinned potato salad to my wings and it was average. We enjoyed the nice outdoor seating area. Overall a good experience here.

Wow! This has to be some of the best food I have ever had. We had five different dishes and two desserts. Everything was wonderful flavorful and perfectly cooked. They have tables right near the grill. I recommend sitting there. I’ll definitely go back.

Good experience. Haven’t done tapas in a while and from what I could tell, OvenBird doesn’t specifically market itself as a tapas restaurant. Given that, I appreciated that our server set the tone and let us know what most diners do in terms of number of plates and methods. Food was good. Our table ordered the empanadas ($14 for simply 2 empanadas is pretty crazy, the quantity was not made known on the menu). Also ordered the paella, which was solid, proteins consisted of Chicken and Conecuh Sausage, which was a nice Southern twist on paella. They were good, but the price point was not ideal. I ordered the Choripan (very good) and Snapper Throat (also good, a bit heavy on the BBQ sauce). Great experience, good ambience.
Eshan P — Google review
We have been here a few times over the years and come here mainly for their beef fat candle. I fell in love with it the first time we came when they first opened. This time it wasn't quite up to par. The candle didn't burn long enough to melt the fat properly, so by the end you were eating concealed fat pieces on the bread, a bit gross. The bread was overdone, so too hard/crunchy and not absorbing the dip properly. I asked for fresh bread and they brought out some, which is how I found out the bread is "fresh from the fridge" instead of "fresh from the oven". I expected more at a restaurant like this. I am hoping this was a fluke since we did not have similar issues before instead of the restaurant/dish has gone downhill. Will try it again before we write it off forever. We also tried the Mushroom Conserva. It was different and pretty flavorful. I don't know that I would order it again, but it was good to try. The ambiance is always good here, definitely a good date night location if you are in the mood to splurge a bit.

OvenBird is a unique experience that I have not had in the Birmingham area. Your experience starts the moment you step onto the property. The decor is so unique and inviting, I love the open floor plan, and the food is very flavorful and unique. I didn't leave with a super heavy feeling but was also satisfied. It's a 'dinning experience' so be prepared to spend some time there. The tapas menu also allows for foodie discussions at the table. Also, ask questions about the dishes! Some are chef inspired.

We had a great dinner with friends in this restaurant. Everything tasted really good and super fresh. The cuisine reminds me of Spain vacation. Service was friendly but not very attendant. Our drink order took very long. And they didn’t ask us for more drinks after we finished the drinks. It’s a little bit pricey but definitely worth the price We will definitely come back

Ovenbird is a great local restaurant with a very unique and delicious. Take on South American and central American cuisine. Lots of really good dishes on their menu one thing to be aware of their a small dish restaurant. Some of the portions were enough for our table to share around, but the majority of them were single person Size dishes, but they were still very good if you’re going alone, I recommend ordering 2 to 3E items from the menu and if you are going with a group, then you might be able to get away with only two items per person and then share around with each other lots of very Unique flavors that you won’t find at other restaurants here in Birmingham I ordered the mushrooms and the hanger steak I found the mushrooms to be amazing. They were just right and cooked perfectly. The steak I thought was a little overdone, and the portion of the steak for the cost was a little bit higher than anticipated. The potatoes that came with the steak weren’t very good in my opinion. I also had the chocolate cake for dessert. It’s more of a chocolate mousse, but it is delectable. it is amazing and I highly recommend it and the mushrooms. Someone else at our table ordered the seafood for Dale’s and it was amazing. I personally liked it a lot more than the steak. We also had at our table the empanadas the roasted chicken and the chef inspired paella if I were to rank everything we ate or tried I would say number one the seafood for potatoes number two the mushroom conserves number three the chef inspired paella number for the roasted chicken number five hanger steak number six empanadas and then we also had the ceviche and I would say it was probably up there in the top four it was very good as for the desserts they didn’t have any cheesecake while we’re there but they did have Tres Leche and chocolate cake they pair amazingly together personally I’m not a huge chocolate fan, but I loved the chocolate cake. I actually liked it a little more than the Tres Leche the environment was very cozy and warm, kind of gave mountain chalet vibes. We ate inside and the weather was a little drizzly, but having all the windows and everything it just felt so cozy location. It’s easy to find easy to get to lots of parking right around there very convenient. It is a little more difficult to know where it’s at right off the bat the Google maps puts it just slightly off on the pin you go into the main parking lot that’s right there and it’s right in the center has just a little sign and if you park on the street, walk past the butcher shop into the parking lot and it will be the first building on the staff where is super friendly one was really nice to work with lots of good recommendations and we went on a Tuesday evening about 730s when we got there and there wasn’t like anyone else in the restaurant. It was really empty, which was really nice so it felt like we had the whole place ourselves.

One of the best dinners my wife and I have had in a while. The night we visited, all the windows and doors were open, so whether you were seated in the courtyard or dining room, it felt amazing. Our server took her time explaining the restaurant concept, making sure we understood dishes and portions. Cocktails and food was perfect! Will definitely be returning soon to try rest of the amazing menu.

Pretty good place if you want to try some unique items! The menu seems to change and they have some pretty delicious small "tapas" style plates. You have to try the beef fat candle. I know it sounds weird but it is absolutely delicious and unlike anything you have ever tried. Their chorizo and steak are also excellent.

Restaurant
Wasabi Juan's The Battery is a funky fusion eatery that combines sushi rolls with Mexican street food in a casual setting, complete with a patio. Their menu features gluten-free options and specializes in sushi burritos, along with tacos, nachos, and tasty side items. Customers rave about the 420 nachos and customizable burritos, such as the 'Cowboy' with steak or the 'Destin' with shrimp, crab, cucumber, avocado, and spicy mayo wrapped in nori.
Y’all have got to try this place! They make the coolest Asian-Mexican fusion food. It’s owned by a Christian family, and the owners were SO sweet. They shared the story of how they started the restaurant and even showed us the Bible verses on the wall that inspired some of their menu item names. Food was delicious & reasonably priced!

What a unique food choice! So cool and delicious. I got the Toro and sub the chips and salsa for edamame.

I've only ordered food once from here we got it delivered to our office. I believed I had ordered the Lord Have Mercy. It was pretty good and I would definiely come again but it wasn't mind blowing and I thought the side of chips and salsa was kinda lame. Next time I'd get no side or choose a different one. Expect the same pricing as normal sushi. I do really appreciate their website though! Straight to the point.

I have been going here for months and it never disappoints! Everyone is super sweet and always attentive to orders. Everything is so delicious and bonus.. they have a food truck that caters at events! Highly recommend!:)

First time here and tried the sushi nachos. Such a great dish that you can’t get just anywhere! The flavor was incredible but the value wasn’t so great. I spent about $15 a piece for my meal and for each of my son’s meals. They got the sushi burritos and rated them a 6/10. One of my sons immediately wondered aloud about their profit margin. I would definitely go back but hope they increase the amount of food for the price.

Service was fine, food was completely overpriced for a mediocre set of cheap steak and doritos. Never coming here again

Been meaning to stop here a while and finally got the chance on a slow day after running errands. It was amazing! The staff is super nice, the store was well kept, and the food was amazing. It even looked just as good as something you’d see in an ad. The value was really good too because I wasn’t expecting much for 2 tacos given how expensive everything has become lately but they were pretty filling!

Nice, helpful guy at the order window guided me through the menu and I was happy with his recommendations. Hippy Burrito with a side of cucumber was fresh and light, on the point on spiciness, flavorful, interesting, and full of textures. The sushi burrito was fun but I really enjoyed the extremely simple cucumber salad that came with a light dusting of sesame seeds.

Urban Cookhouse is a fast-casual eatery that prioritizes using locally-sourced produce in their sandwiches, salads, and entrees. Founded by Andrea and David Snyder, the restaurant's philosophy revolves around supporting local farmers. One of their standout dishes is the Heirloom tomato BLT, featuring applewood smoked bacon and luscious heirloom tomatoes from Cullman County farmer Trent Boyds Harvest Farm.
This is a Saturday lunch ritual when daughter, wife and I are all in town. We all get the exact same item (Pick 2, grilled chicken sandwich and Pepper patch salad), and it's always great. They also have great tea. Highly recommend the place. Staff is very nice and helpful as well.

Nice restaurant. You will spend about $12-13 for a plate and drink. I got the braised pork plate with the hot cheddar pasta, bread, and broccoli salad. The pasta was really good and cheesy. The servers were very friendly. It's by the federal reserve. It's cool because the bathroom entrance was the old vault. Indoor and outdoor seating available. The wait time for the food wasn't long at all; they got our food out within minutes.

This is a counter service restaurant. We were able to order lunch immediately. The food was delivered to the table very quickly. The ingredients are very high quality. The dishes are interesting combinations than typical fast casual. The house salad with grilled chicken was delicious. The chicken was well seasoned.

OMG!! It’s like going home for a long lunch or early dinner after a short day at work on Friday. Perfect for a girlfriend brunch or intimate lunch with the hubs. I went solo for this first time visit and it impressed on site! I had the lime marinated steak with rice pilaf and salad. It was so good I ate the entire plate!! I NEVER do that!! Atmosphere is happy, bright, open, private, and cozy! Must do a sit down! It’s seriously like I went home and had lunch on the patio. Strawberry 🍓 sangria was perfectly crisp like the fall weather. Strawberry lemonade with half unsweetened tea…. Oh yeah! Definitely a great take away! And the orange sweet rolls… well everybody knows that’s the only reason I went to the place! Love love love ❤️ if I could do double stars I would!
Danette D — Google review
Usually one of my favorite places but i got a Cubano sandwich from Ubereats today and it smells and tastes like ut was saturated with gasoline or lighter fluid not only that the orange rolls were very stale and the broccoli soup was half cooked broccoli puree with huge chunks of broccoli that were still raw.

Fantastic, fresh, lives up to the "farm to table" claim. The strawberry lemonade is amazing and the half-baked cookie is sinfully good. The managers are attentive and responsive, wait times are extremely short, prices are very affordable.

Pizza restaurant
Bar
Pies & Pints, a popular pizzeria chain originating from Fayetteville, West Virginia, is renowned for its creative pizza combinations and extensive selection of craft beers. The menu features specialty pizzas like the unique Grape & Gorgonzola and the flavorful Cuban pork. In addition to pizzas, they offer salads, sandwiches, and delectable appetizers such as Pizza Skins with roasted garlic mashed potatoes.
This is such a great space right in Birmingham! They had a great outdoor seating area & large family size tables in one section of the restaurant. Portions are very generous. The nacho appetizer was definitely enough to feed the entire table (5 adults + 3 kids)! We were also able to split the pizzas into two flavors so we got to try 4 flavors. The Italian & chicken bacon Gouda were absolutely delicious! All pizzas were covered in toppings so you got some in every single bite. The steak & mushroom pizza was also a favorite at the table. For kiddos, my 2 year old devoured the kids grazing plate. I was so happy to see something on the menu for finger foods for kids, you rarely see that! Our waitress, I think her name was Ava, was such a delight! Very attentive & patient. We had a great experience for a family dinner with a party of 9! 10/10 would recommend.
Malia R — Google review
Pretty cool pizza restaurant that serves wine and beer only. For an appetizer we had the charbroiled chicken wings. They were a little sweet but still tasty. We also had the shrimp and Sriracha pizza (small) and a chicken Gouda pizza. The shrimp pizza was my favorite perfect level of spice and the pineapple added a great contrast of flavor. We ordered two small pizzas and still had pizza to take home.
Marshae B — Google review
Really neat find, great pizzas and beers. Huge beer selection on tap, cans, bottles. The Hot Momma and the Street Corn pizzas are hands-down truly awesome must-try selections. (Yes, Street Corn pizzas, just try it!) The Cuban is close but instead of pineapple they should swap in pickle with a mustard drizzle to stay true to the name. A hidden gem of a beer is the Snow on the Maple Tree by Clown Shoes Brewery which is a ln imperial stout with maple aged in bourbon barrels.
Chris H — Google review
So last night over dinner gentleman at the bar mentioned this place so I said to myself, I’ll be there tomorrow…. So here it goes…. I think more than anything, I was amazed at how many draft beers they had, holy cow!!! Right above the drafts there are four flat screens to watch our beloved sports. Place wasn’t too packed, I came before the evening rush. Started with a nice cold Modelo! Was looking at the menu started off with the Char-Grilled hot wings! Great flavors, but I do not think that’s the right sauce for these wings in my opinion. Shifted to ordering a pizza, immediately the Sriracha Shrimp caught my attention. Mind you I am not a fan of pineapple in my pizza but this I was more than willing to try. Loved it, flavors all united! Crust was crunchy, not too hard, it was perfect! Long story short, half coming home with me! To-go I ordered a Cheesecake with raspberry fruit syrup on the side, as you all know, those are my evening snacks lol The cheesecake is absolutely delicious!!!! This place accommodates big crowds with ease. There are seats and tables, even outdoor section… all very cozy and comfortable to your liking. The team is very kind and friendly!!!! This is a Valdi approved joint!!!

Pizza and service was very good. Garlic lovers will want to get the white pie. Great flavor. If you don't like heavy garlic, then ask for it on the side. The classic pie and root beer are also good. Definitely will eat here again
T.J. A — Google review
We go out to eat less and less lately. My wife had an appointment downtown and being late in the evening she wanted to try it out. Wanted to try Pies & Pints for YEARS. Wish the prices were, eh,$1.75 cheaper... but the experience and food? Let's get into it... It was... wonderful. It was a lazy Thursday evening, and it was maybe not quite a third of the restaurant filled. Think there were maybe only 2 waitresses/servers working, so we had a bit of a wait til she got our order. BUT as indecisive as I am...we were fine. Looking at the prices, we suggested getting 2 8" instead of 1 10" pizza. Glad we did. My wife had the cauliflower crust with basic pepperoni. I had the Italian (no onions), since onions don't like me anymore... 😔 Their pizzas are stove fired ovens I believe, so the crust was light, crunchy AND soft all at the same time. The pepperoni were all curled and crisp, the aioli sauce, the banana peppers... it was WONDERFUL! Never had pizza with this kind of flavor anywhere. Our waitress was super nice and checked on us at least 2 more times. Pies & Pints has a great lazy yet social atmosphere. I bet with all the wooden walls can seem pretty loud over half capacity, but if you just want a beer and pizza and sit with your buds, THIS is the place to do it. Wish I could give it 4.5 stars, but definitely could share a 10 inch with a friend, girlfriend, or boyfriend for lunch easy and not take anything back with you. For one? You're probably spending at least $15-$18. Now around lunch you can buy by the slice! That sounds like a nice trade off, they just don't sell by the slice after 2 or 3 in the afternoon. Now, I am diabetic now. The last time I touched alcohol my levels spiked and took forever and now shots to get it back down after a whole 3 SIPS of some wine 3 years ago. I don't drink anymore... and (while I am christian) do miss a nice lager, ale or muscadine wine on the rare occasion. What can ya do... Thought their bottles were plastic. Nope! All the cool bottles everywhere are made of glass and helps the ambiance to the whole restaurant with a nice mural of the city along the back wall. Overall, if you're in Birmingham or near and in the mood for great pizza flavor definitely try Pies & Pints out!
Grillenheimer — Google review
Visited Sunday afternoon for a lunch here. Ordered the wings and half white with chicken and half come other chicken pizza. Was amazing. I have eaten pizza at a lot of places and this is by far the closest to an authentic NY style pizza here in Bama and the best pizza hands down in the town. I will surely without any doubt compare it directly to L’industrie pizza of New York. Very similar flavors and taste and loved it. Will be back for more.
Akshay K — Google review
This is the first time in my entire life as a rotund individual that i didn't finish 75% of my meal. And didn't take it to go. These wings were the regularest (i know that's not a word) wings I've ever had. I don't eat cheese so I'm not eating gorgonzola cheese sauce on wings. I'm from Atlanta the wing capital of the universe. Ranch is a must. The salad was...a salad. The chicken was bland. Overall i was not impressed. My biggest beef is their lack of sauce and dressing options. BUT the pizza was good that my baby boy had. Great drinks and the service was really nice. The area and the ambience was nice. I chose badly and they had very unique items. I would do back for the pizza and drinks. I'll pass on the apps and salads until they get a more robust dressing selection. Give em a shot if you haven't though.

Big Spoon Creamery is a popular artisanal ice cream company known for its traditional and seasonal ice cream scoops, sandwiches, and sundaes. The company initially gained attention by selling handcrafted ice cream from an old-school trike at various locations in Birmingham. Since then, it has expanded to include two storefronts in Avondale and Homewood. In 2021, Big Spoon Creamery was recognized as the best ice cream in the state by Food and Wine magazine.
I was circling back to the Coconut Lime & Sea Salt flavor, topped with olive oil. Total bummer that it’s no longer available. I was completely hooked. You can expect only two vegan flavors in rotation, that change periodically, with 1 being a sorbet. I prefer cream based ice cream. Today I tried their (V) Berry Crisp & Blueberry Cheesecake. The ice cream is delicious, and possibly worth trying again. The prices however, are a bit extreme.

Very mixed coming out of this. The ice cream was by far the best I’ve ever had but goodness are the prices rough. I understand the pricing being a small local place with small batch ice creams but $11 for a milkshake just for it to be that small was a difficult pill to swallow, quality aside. I tried the breakup cookie milkshake and had it not Been for the price I would have turned around and got another. My partner had the June Coffee milkshake with caramel, it was hands down the best coffee flavor ice cream I’ve had in my whole life. The inside environment was incredible sterile and felt like a hospital, this is all personal preference going forward but I cared in no way for the decoration, or lack thereof. I just didn’t feel like the sterile all white minimalist design suited an ice cream spot, especially one of this caliber. All in all I would and will go back I just hope in the course of finding their legs they can come down on the prices just a bit and maybe liven up the decor. I have high hopes and nothing but love for this place and their vision and I hope I can increase my rating in the future!!

This place has a great backyard garage vibe! Come with a big group, get some grub, order some local beer, and if you’re lucky, be there for trivia night. We indulged in burgers and fries with a beer each and it was really good. They serve pizza too, and great for young families, too. They also have a side room with the largest game TV I have ever seen. We came during football bowl season and caught the tail end of the Arizona Rate Bowl game.

This was my first time going to Back Forty! I LOVED IT! Open airy kind of like rustic, loft brewery, family room feel. Everyone was chatting away. You can see into the kitchen and the brewery equipment. Staff were friendly and the servers too. We dined inside. They have two areas to park on either side of the restaurant. Multiple areas to eat. Two inside covered patios areas and a pergola style area with modern decor tables and chairs with lantern lights. They have a community wall for the local festivities and businesses. The menu is light and trendy. A friend ordered the Hand tossed pepperoni pizza and I had the cat fish poboy/sandwich. I had one fillet for a 12 inch bun. It was good. I liked the fresh cilantro. The shoe string fries were good just a little over salted. The key lime pie was delicious. Will be back and try something else.
Shir C — Google review
First time here. The outside was nice with the lighting but it sucks there's a train loading and unloading area right next door. Nothing the business can handle but just the fact it's there and hard to talk to your party while they are unhooking and crossing the street blaring horns and all. Other than the train noise, the outside was nice and cozy. The service was ok. They basically just take your order and give you a buzzer for when it's ready. They were nice people, not rude so that was cool. When your food is done, it's just sitting on the counter where you toss the buzzer in a basket. No real interaction with staff after that. The one member on the end was nice and friendly when I asked for ranch they forgot to give me for my order. The food was not bad but not great, more pedestrian if I have to say. The pizza was basically little sauce and little to no cheese as you see in the photo. Not really a lot of flavor other than the pepperoni (some were spicy lol). The burger was pretty small and over done. Asked for medium, came out well done. Asked for onion, got a few thin slices. Asked for other sauces, it was little to none and soaked up into the bun. Fries were not bad, typical shoe string fries. Was a little pricy for the quality we got, not worth it honestly. Not pooing on them but I'd pick another place before here again if this is how they operate.

MOOYAH Burgers, Fries & Shakes is a popular burger restaurant with options for poultry and veggie burgers as well as fries and shakes. Their standout feature is definitely their shakes which come with a variety of flavors. The price can be a bit high for the size of the patty, but they do offer fries and a drink as an extra charge.
The staff did not speak English very well, that said, they were friendly. The burgers were delicious. I mentioned to my sister the buns were exceptional and she told me they were fresh made by Mooyah. It definitely made a difference in the burgers. The meat was seasoned and cooked to match the buns quality. The toppings were fresh, as well as the signature sauce that added to the burger. The fries were excellent, hot, cooked at the time of order and crisp. Their signature drinks we cool, light and refreshing. It is extremely close to UAB and Children's Hospital, so an added plus if you are there for care.

First time to eat at a Mooyah. I ordered chips because I'm not a big French fry person. When I got the chips they were cold. I let them know they were cold and they said they cook the chips first thing in the morning. We were eating at 1:10 pm in the afternoon. I ask if they could make me some fresh ones and they said they couldn't. They did offer to give me some hot French fries and I did accept their offer. Burger was good but the patty is thin like a smash burger. For a combo, you get charged the price of the burger, then they do a 2nd price for the side and drink so it's really not a combo. Review summary....For the price I paid, the food was ok but not great for a burger place.

Went in on what had you been the hottest day in August of 2023 and their air conditioner was pumping! The bathroom and store were super clean, and the staff was amazing. I ordered a mushroom swiss burger, a bacon cheeseburger barbecue, and fries. The fries were actually pretty good, and were cooked to perfection. The hamburgers were delicious but we're very greasy. Two hamburgers, one fry, two small drinks = $31

Since I was stranded in the city and had to walk everywhere. I found this burger joint to help with my starvation. Ordering food was easy given the kiosk that’s available for customers. We got there right before closing so I was skeptical about ordering it. I rarely eat beef but I had no choice given my situation. I do not regret this at all. The burger was so juicy and cooked to perfection. The fries wasn’t that good. Im sure the twenty min walk in the cold killed them. Next time I’ll dine in. The staff was great. Facility was clean.

I’ve been here for breakfast and lunch now. Both were delicious. They open around 5:30am for breakfast and close at 3pm. One of the earliest freshly made meals in the area. A coworker suggested I come for the cheeseburger and the did not disappoint. A single patty was more than enough for me. Order at the counter then slide down and pay for your food. They will put it up on the call your name for you to pick up at counter to take to your table. Employees are very nice and the food comes quickly…even when it’s crowded. For sure a local favorite.

The place had a line out the door the entire time we were there, the line moves really fast but it never went away... We didn't spend about 5 minutes in line but they just go down the line take your order and by the time you pay for it you got it in your hands. The best hot dogs I've ever had

The epitome of an old "hole in the wall" place that makes great food people line up for. It's very clean inside so don't misunderstand my hole in the wall comment, it's just a bit like stepping back in time. It's very refreshing to eat here because I know I am going to get great food every single time. Some people don't want to pay for quality ingredients, some people aren't used to substantial quality food, but if you want a great breakfast or lunch, and aren't afraid of a little animal fat and meat, then this is definitely the place for you. I left you a picture of my bacon cheeseburger before I demolished it, just to give you an idea of what you can expect.

We heard about Tony’s from my Son & DIL, and we just had to go once the word “biscuit”was mentioned!! We only went for breakfast, but were delighted that the biscuit/egg/cheese/sausage lived up to our expectations. Can’t wait to go again, maybe even have a hot dog next time…
Jill S — Google review
A regular cheeseburger all the way. That include fresh tomatoes, lettuce, pickle, I skipped the onion. It must have been at least six ounces of beef perfectly grilled. Also ordered fries. They came out hot and perfectly salted. I'll definitely be back for more hamburgers and to try the hot dogs. Service was quick, staff was friendly. Not a very big place. I ate at the counter but be prepared to eat in your car if you get there at a busy time.

Seeds Coffee Co. in Homewood is an industrial-rustic coffee shop that prides itself on serving house-roasted beans for pour-overs and espresso drinks. The owners aimed to create a comfortable space where people could socialize, work, or simply unwind with a delicious hot beverage. This quaint spot has an inviting atmosphere that welcomes patrons of all ages to enjoy ethically sourced and mindfully roasted coffee.
When recommending locally-owned coffee shops to Bham visitors, this is always first on my list. First of all - highest quality coffee at all levels: from single origin espresso to fun seasonal drinks. The food menu keeps getting better and better too; pic below is my first experience of the breakfast burrito 💯 and once a month, get to chicken biscuit Saturday if you can, but get there early because they always sell out. Plenty of seating indoor and outdoor, and the best staff in town.

Excellent coffee, 10/10. If you’re visiting the Birmingham area, this is the spot to try. Get the specials - we tried the blackberry jam latte with oat milk and honey cinnamon latte with macadamia milk. Delicious!

Stopped on a road trip - great coffee ! A bit of a line but they cranked em out pretty good. Got an iced van latte, an iced mocha and egg+avocado toast. Lots of seating options inside and out and friendly staff. Loved seeing the barista use a scale for every espresso shot - I'm guessing you can trust a consistent cup here 😀
Natalie L — Google review
At 07:30 they werent ready to serve any dishes with potatoes. What left to try was ok. The cream for my plain brew was sour and I had to ask for a fresh cup of coffee. The interior is spacious with plenty of seating either solo or with a group.

The coffee is SO GOOD but I wish I could get the lemon cake latte in a gallon size. The avocado toast is divine. You get a lot of fruit on the side too! And the Sriracha honey is a mussssst! (The sausage was extra, it does not come with the toast.)

Although there are positives, it pains me to have to write this review because I know what this place is capable of doing. I lived in W. Homewood for years and made Seeds a fairly regular stop. Always consistent, fresh and delicious. I moved out of town for a year and recently moved back. I don't know what happened in the past year, but someone in the kitchen doesn't seem to be paying attention to the details. Positives: The drinks are very consistent, delicious, and well-crafted. And the vibe is cool with lots of seating options inside and out. Negatives: The food I'm most familiar with is the biscuit. It USED to be so good that I never saw the need to order anything else. Here's where they fell far short. In the last week, I've been twice. I order the scrambled egg, provolone and avocado biscuit each time. First time, not much flavor or cheese, and biscuit was just okay. I get that anyone can have a bad day so I decided to give it another try. However, today, it was worse -- no flavor (not even salt/pepper, something, anything!) and barely any cheese. But the biscuit was rock hard, (as if it were a day old), tepid, and altogether unappetizing. I was surprised this was even allowed to be served. To be clear, all the other food looks appetizing, but I haven't tried it. I hope whoever reads this takes my comments to heart and makes it better. I want to support a LOCAL coffee/breakfast spot.
Michael K — Google review
Their cappuccino may be my favorite in Birmingham!! Also, I love that their seasonal beverages and flavored lattes are not too sweet!

Honestly, I like Seeds, and I feel a little bad for this review, but guys, I waited at the register for a good 8 minutes before someone took my order. My Pumkin muffin was good, so was my drink. Nothin fancy, just wanted to relax a little. I’m just gonna say it…. Whoever is choosing the music needs to have that responsibility removed. Heavy Trumpet Weird Jazz, so dark in the beginning I thought about calling the Crisis Center and now 30 MINUTES LATER INTO THE SONG is this weird Wild Bohemian Nightmare Fuel Symphony. Come. On. Man. I added a video. Don’t know if you can hear it but it is 2:30pm on Friday. I’m so wound up now imma have to take a zbar to regain my composure.

Jack's is a popular fast-food establishment that offers typical American fare like hamburgers, french fries, and milkshakes. The particular branch of Jack's mentioned here is always bustling with activity. It has a busy drive-thru and a crowded dining area. However, the hardworking staff efficiently handles all orders to ensure prompt service. Customers consistently receive their meals fresh and piping hot. The friendly employees always greet customers warmly and express gratitude before they leave with their food.
The 2 chicken 🐔 sandwiches 🥪 were 🔥!! Excellent!! Go Fultondale!! Thank you 😊 ms. Manager! Monday July 21st at 12:30 P.M. I really appreciate hot fresh Chicken 🐔!!

The service was great. The counter staff was courteous and helpful. And patient. The chicken sandwich was very good. Not greasy. Crispy chicken. Good amount of pickles. I thought the fries were just OK. Too much potato for the outer area. Not crispy enough. The condiments were nicely laid out. There was no Coke Zero, my favorite drink. I think Diet Coke is chemical nasty.
Charles J — Google review
The staff is very absent minded. They should know how to prepare for the Sunday morning rush by now. Every Sunday, it is the same BS with them. It takes a hour just to get two small breakfast items. This doesn't make sense. They need better managers who can prepare and lead their staff!! Items should already be laid out ready to grab and move to the next customers. They are just out of order and not functioning efficiently!
Micheal M — Google review
This restaurant is across from the Bessemer Civic Center. At 2:00 pm. We arrived for a quick bite. One lady in line ahead of us, which is fine. The problem is one person at front to wait in customers. She was more interested in counting the cash box than taking our orders. She tells someone in the office close by, yes. there are customers but I told them I would be with them shortly. Yes. But why count the cash box in front of customers, in the first place? Just asking to be robbed. I thought Jack's appreciated their customers?? This is second time in a month, though different restaurants, I have had to wait to give my order. Jack's, you are losing your touch of quick service. Needless, to say, I left this restaurant in Bessemer without buying lunch. Oh, an added note, may have had one other customer besides the lady waiting in line ahead of me. This place is easy access to Bessemer Civic Center, it should have been busier than it was. The atmosphere was dim and dingy. Left without ordering, so no comment in the food. I will not be returning to this restaurant. We drove on down the road shortly to a Sonic. Was greeted quickly and had a delicious lunch. Jack's you are losing your touch. You may be "All about the South" but you are not all about your customers!

We bought breakfast there this morning in the drive thru and when we got home I bit into my sausage biscuit into a black hair. I then pulled it out and it was a never ending black hair with a knot in it about 12” long. I was disgusted and couldn’t even begin to think about eating that biscuit. We eat there frequently and have never issues but this is inexcusable and shouldn’t happen if the cooks are wearing proper hair nets.
Patty G — Google review
Make sure you get a receipt AND check what is in your bag at the drive-thru. I ordered a sausage link biscuit and disapointingly received only a biscuit and no sausage! My fault on the receipt so I have no recourse - but folks need to slow down and make sure they receive their meal order correctly. Personally, this isn't the first time this has happened at the Homewood Jacks. Something similar happened the last time I went there a couple of years ago. This reminded me why I haven't returned.
Patrick B — Google review
The drive through speaker at this location has been needing maintenance for years. I can never hear what they are saying and have to repeat my order at the window every time.. I’m disappointed since the jacks headquarters is 10 miles away..
Brennan W — Google review
I drive through this area often and avoided Jack’s because I confused it was another chain that I do not care for, but boy was I wrong to do that! Jack’s has some great southern fast food with a top-notch hot chicken sandwich that rivals anyone’s favorite from other fast food places. The fried pies are a particularly excellent treat, especially the lemon pie, and make any other pie from places like McDonald’s, or grocery stores pale as a weak imitation by comparison to this freshly made pie served while still hot! Good tea also, although I did not notice them having both kinds of tea on the menu, and when I asked for my tea to be half-and-half at the window, the lady politely but obviously UN-enthusiastically dumped out half the tea and topped off with the other. My only suggestion is that they be more clear on the menu that they have both sweet and unsweet tea. Either way, I will be back every chance I get!

Irondale Cafe, a historic eatery that has been around since 1928, gained fame as the inspiration for the Whistle Stop Cafe in Fannie Flagg's novel "Fried Green Tomatoes." The cafe, located beside train tracks, is known for serving traditional Southern dishes and is particularly famous for its fried green tomatoes. The menu changes daily but typically includes classic Southern favorites like fried chicken, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and fresh vegetables.
Food, service, and friendly atmosphere was top notch! Parking is a little chaotic but to be expected. We live an hour and a half away and will definitely make the drive for lunch again in the future!

As far as cafeteria style, meat, and three type diners, this one stands out amongst some of the best the food is what you would expect from any country style cooking place very good and cooked like your grandma made it. They also make their own several different types of hot sauces, and rolls that you can either have at your table or by to take home. They are all very good and made the right way!

Great southern cooking! Chicken livers are cooked just right and not dry. Turnip greens with their homemade vinegar are perfect and I love the stewed cabbages. Oh, forgot to mention the hush poppies are sweet and caking that ca be a dessert. Delicious! If you are in the neighborhood between Leeds and Birmingham, you should definitely give it a try for this lunch place.

If you want a true southern cooking cafe, you have found the spot! These guys have a great line up of souther foods, from fried chicken to fried okra. They also have amazing desserts and their service is fantastic! They get busy for lunch, but the line moves pretty quickly! They do give a 5% discount for cash (meaning they uncharge for credit), but this is normal today as small businesses can’t afford to eat credit card fees. Just be aware that you can save if you pay with cash. There is plenty of seating, but also come early! If you get stuck by the train, you might be late to meet your party. The seating area is huge and so is their passion for southern food. Sorry health eaters, nothing here for you, but if you like down home southern cooking, it doesn’t get better!

Quite the unexpected hidden gem that I happened upon while waiting for trains to clear track. Totally taken by surprise at the value and overall deliciousness of the food served here. Southern themed food with just the right amount of spice and flavor, I will totally be visiting here again! Generous portions and not too hard on your pocket, I highly recommend a trip here. The fried chicken and okra were amazing, both fried to perfection and not cooked too hard. And the macaroni and cheese was delectable as well, I give this establishment a certified 5 out of 5!👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 👍🏾👍🏾

It was buffet style. You tell them what you want, and they serve you. I loved the fact that everything was in a separate dish. Everything we got was great! The seasoning was perfect for us. The chicken livers were fried to perfection 🥰 The fried green tomatoes were crispy 😋 The restaurant was very clean and well kept. All around, excellent experience 😀

This historic eatery is the inspiration for the book and movie Fried Green Tomatoes. Their food is so good! I get the fried green tomatoes every time. I love the hush puppies, stewed squash, beef tips, fried okra, and chess pie. It’s cafeteria style but the servers who refill drinks, etc are fun and helpful. I take my grandma at least twice a month.

Bendy's Cookies & Cream is a sweet venture started by the husband and wife duo, Ben and Wendy. What began as a home-based sampling for friends and family evolved into a full-fledged food truck in Birmingham in 2016. This mobile dessert haven offers classic homemade ice cream sandwiches with a modern twist. With locations in Cahaba Heights and Trussville, Bendy's serves up warm, delectable cookies paired with cups of ice cream at an unbeatable price.
Great place. I tried several of the ice creams they had, all of which were fantastic. I ended up with the blackberry buttered biscuit since it was a seasonal for the summer. The woman working was great. I’m sorry I didn’t catch her name! She was telling me how they’re all homemade and that she is really good at pairing their cookies with the ice cream and that the cookies are underrated. I agree. One scoop and a cookie was $5.75 and I’d gladly have laid $9 for the combo. I’ll definitely be back with my family!

I visited this cookie shop for the first time with my daughter and, unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We were the only African American customers there, and while the shop was busy, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming. We were met with blank stares from both associates and other patrons—no greeting, no warmth, just discomfort. As a first-time customer, I hoped for a pleasant and inclusive environment, but instead, I felt out of place and overlooked. I truly believe all customers deserve to feel acknowledged and respected, regardless of background. I hope this feedback encourages more mindful customer service and a more welcoming atmosphere for everyone.

We always enjoy visiting Bendy’s—their ice cream is some of the best in Birmingham! However, we were disappointed on our last visit. We arrived at 8:15 on a Saturday night and were told milkshakes weren’t available because the machine had already been cleaned, even though the store doesn’t close until 9:30. Hopefully, they'll reconsider the policy of cleaning the machine an hour before closing.

One of my favorite dessert spots! If you are a snicker-doodle cookie fan like me, you should definitely check them out. They have the best version of them in my opinion. That's not to say that everything else isn't delish there too. Trust me I've tried it all! ;) And I've never been disappointed with what I've gotten. Plus the owners are some of the coolest people you'll meet. I highly recommend them to anyone who's in need of a sweet treat!

5 stars for the taste. The shop is very small, though. It was so crowded, and we were pushed all the way against the door, people standing outside the door as well after us. I have never had a better cookie and ice cream, though. Well worth it. Parking was scarce also. We had to wait for someone to walk out and stalk them to their vehicle to take theirs. Wish they could open a bigger store somewhere.

Stopped in to get a requested ice cream sandwich for my son’s birthday. I placed my order for one sandwich and asked for it “to go” and was told they only do that for online orders and it’s about an hour prep time. Literally would not place my one ice cream sandwich in a closed container so that I could transport it.

They have the best sweet potato fries! We got a sharing size to share with our kids (we were trying to decide which fries to get and the employee suggested we do half regular and half sweet potato—both were great!). Burger buns are toasted and delicious and the burgers, themselves, had a great grilled-in-the-backyard-by-your-dad vibe to them. Oh, and we shared a shake, and it tasted incredibly fresh. I’d recommend! Fairly simple food, but it’s done well!

The service is described as friendly and efficient, making it a great spot for a quick meal. Many patrons also appreciate the nostalgic atmosphere of the location.
The food is fanominal and has been since I first visited years ago. I ordered the holy cow burger and holy cow. I figured it would be huge, but this thing is ginormous.

I ordered the #2 bc it looked bigger in the Pic. It's more of a baby burger. Here are pics to show the size difference as he ordered a #8. (1 lb burger) Quality is good, it's fresh and beefy, the shakes are fantastic and the fries are hot and crispy. The house sauce is like cocktail sauce for shrimp. Overall, great place for a quick bite to eat.

Long time establishment. I even had a child that worked for them 20 years ago. The burgers are good. But, as a young man with us said as it was his first time to go, "it's pretty hard to mess up a hamburger." He's pretty much right. Consistent quality which is excellent. They have their own 'special sauce ' which gives them distinction. It's a good place to go for lunch. Never been there for breakfast. Could be even better for breakfast but just don't know. My main reason for not treating them higher is their staff. They think it's a more valuable user of their time to talk to each other while you're standing say the counter waiting to place your order or you need them to replenish the iced tea dispenser. Low class. Actually, NO class.

The hamburgers tasted like something you would eat at a cookout. The meat was smaller than the bun and looked nothing like the photos. The price was definitely not worth what you got. I don't understand what all the hoopla is about this place for a burger. I stopped here a couple of times, the first time I was totally disappointed, so I went back a second time just to give it an honest opinion. Really not impressed at all. Noisy atmosphere, terrible service at the counter and the food really is below par to me and I actually was still hungry when I left so the portion of the burger was really small compared to most, I even would prefer Whataburger for a bigger burger and Wendys for better tasting burger. I suppose if you are in a hurry and on that side of the highway heading in the right direction to turn in and really really hungry you may think more of it. Sorry Hamburger Heaven but I won't be back.

After going to two other locations and leaving because they were rude… we ended up at this subway. We didn’t get here until 530 and they closed at 6. We were hoping and praying they took us. We needed 5 foot longs. Upon entering we were greeted. There was an older lady alone and she got right to work on our orders with no hesitation and with a smile. As she was finishing up a gentleman came in to finish helping her. No attitudes, didn’t make us feel unwanted….. She was even nice enough to let my two children use the restroom even though there’s no public restroom. I would definitely visit again.

I applaud them for making a big lunch order on the spot, however being neglectful of time In which a sandwich is in the toaster and then slapping new cheese on top of burnt cheese to cover it.. mind you this is a flatbread veggie... The flat bread was stiff, and they continue to make the sandwich.. it is so hard I can't bite it.. but I didn't know that until I opened it. Seriously, not ok.. I've had decent experience here, but advocate for yourself and don't take food if you dont check it first. Trying to be polite bc they are busy isn't any good if they don't extend the same courtesy

The churro was stale tasting and reeked of onions and tasted like them too. It was hard to bite into and reminded me of a stick. Besides the horrible tasting churro the guava drink is a 10/10 and the subs are always good. Maybe you should stick to what you’re good at subway

Went in with a coupon for a sub and was told I was limited to the standard ham, turkey, or regular chicken by the woman in charge. It was late and I, short on time, decided to pay full price for a poorly prepared Great Garlic. The ingredients were not spread throughout the sandwich resulting in bites full of one veggie at a time. And the sauce and mayo only on one side of the sandwich. The young girl that made my sandwich seemed to be in training but the woman in charge was no help. Downloaded the app today and guess what? I used the coupon no problem for a Great Garlic.

The wait in line wasn’t too long and the two girls were sweet. After receiving my order, I went to the seating area and began to eat.I decided to get a refill and pushed the ice dispenser. Surprisingly, a large fly wrapped in a sheet of slimy algae popped out into what was left of my drink. My stomach shrank. I carried my cup to the counter to show one of the girls. She looked into my cup and without acknowledging the insect in the green bedsheet resting between my ice cubes, said,” I guess you want another cup.” I said, “no.”

I've been to this Subway a few times, but my latest visit was a doozy. This location managed to get all 3 strikes on a single visit: 1) When I arrived at the store, I told them my name and they attempted to give me someone else's order. I don't think they even looked at the name. 2) The Subway app accepted my order, charged my card, then 20 minutes later, cancelled the order right before my pickup time. The store manager denied the ability to cancel orders (which may or may not be true) and was unwilling to assist with reimbursement process, saying that I needed to contact corporate - even though the cancellation notice in the app said to "contact the store where order was placed." 3) Even after showing a receipt of payment and multiple email confirmations, they never offered to make my order. I was simply told that there's nothing she could do and for me to submit a form through their website. Subway managed to somehow make THEIR software glitch my problem and now I'm stuck filling out forms that will likely be ignored and result in me being $13 lighter with nothing to show for it. I think I'm done here.

Milo's Hamburgers is a longstanding local fast food chain that is famous for its burgers featuring a unique sauce and refreshing sweet tea. While this particular location may not have met all expectations, it could be an isolated incident as previous visits to other Milo's establishments were enjoyable. The service was average, but considering the nature of fast food, it can be forgiven as nobody can always perform at their best. However, the prices at this branch seem exorbitant with a Mega Meal costing $12.
I’m new to the area and have never been to a Milo’s before. I only knew Milo’s from their tea and lemonade sold in stores. I was stopping by with my son to get him a milkshake. Asia is the young lady that served us. In asking her for suggestions on milo’s food, how it compares to other burger places, etc she gave me some great info and got me excited to try the food on return trips. Asia made this brief encounter a great one!

I stopped by Milo’s with some pals last week. We all went basic and got burgers and fries but we at least got different sauces. I went super basic with honey mustard as a I truly expected someone else to try the “Double O sauce” 😈. Im kinda curious about it now, so I think I’m gonna get the “Double O sauce” next time. We all enjoyed the food, straight up. It’s fast food but it’s not bad fast food, it’s a step above the rest. No cap. I really don’t have much to say overall bc it was just an overall pleasant experience. The employees are super nice too! You’re = onika Milo’s = burgers

I forgot to take a picture of my order, #5 The mega Meal. It was very delicious, the burger and fries were hot. My peach pie also. The fries were a tad bit too salty for me. I normally get them plain. The drive through cashier was spot on with the customer service. A+++++. I have not eaten at this Milos before. First impression: Pretty good. Will be back. You can get a pic of my pie. Lol 😆 Dis not get to eat it yet.

This is the best Milo's I have been to in a long time!! Genuinely happy staff that takes pride in their work and a team that definitely tries to satisfy every customer💖 are grilled chicken tenders were incredibly done!!! The other Milo's have been over cooking the grilled tenders but not this one!!!!! Best grilled tenders I've ever had since they started doing it💖💖💖 I would definitely recommend this Milo's!!!!

Girls had a attitude upon arriving, I ordered a cookies and cream milkshake and a apple pie, apple pie was good but they got a attitude because the girl claimed she didn’t hear me ask for a milkshake, they added it on at the window…. She had to just dump the cookies in the milkshake and go on about her day I couldn’t even drink it through the straw, in fact threw it out the window ! Don’t waste your $5 and overall the restaurant itself is trash, trash customer service as well. So instead of me going back up there and making their day even worse because I know they’re days sucks working minimum wage, I would rather write this detailed one star review!
Janiya B — Google review
When a customer requests lite salt on their French Fries there is usually a medical reason., I.e. Hypertension, High Blood Pressure Diagnosis. After I, the customer tells the window clerk to please hold the salt off the french fries she actually tells her co- associate to hold the salt. Why then I, the customer am hearing the associate at the French fries station saying if she can’t eat salt she shouldn’t be eating here. @ Milo’s Management, the company can be held liable for not adhering to the customer’s dietary requests. I would hate for the next customer to notsue Milo’s for honoring a customer’s dietary requests.

Krispy Kreme is a long-time chain that specializes in donuts and coffee. You can earn points for every purchase you make using the app, which can be used towards future purchases. However, be aware that they close very early and may not have any doughnuts left in stock.
The cashier was very friendly and polite. His professionalism showed in everything he did from taking my order to making sure the donuts was hot when I got them. His knowledge about the history of the business was pleasing to hear. We agreed to disagree about who had the best tasting 🍩 🍩 🍩 but it was alright in such a friendly way. I still say, "Southern Maid". I appreciated the refreshing conversation while I waited for my hot donuts which didn't take long about 3 to 4 mins. They were well worth the wait. This is my Friday thing to do on my way home. Great service nice, a clean place to sit and eat if you like.

The way the drive thru is at this location. The outside appears of the building could definitely use an upgrade. Service was good the cashier was nice and pleasant. I only gave 4 stars because the outside looks horrible like the windows don’t look like they been washed in years. I probably will not be visiting the location simply because of the appearance of the building
Keundra T — Google review
Drove 37 minutes to get shorted 4 doughnuts and the glaze to be missing on the other dozen. Terrible customer service. I wasn’t greeted nor was I thanked for my order. Very rude employees. Very disappointed for what I paid.

Was open on time at 6AM. All the lights were on outside and inside, made it so inviting. The inside was spotless, everything clean, shiny, organanized, and in its place. Shout out to the management who has kept this Halmark in our community in such GREAT shape..... Of course their donuts are the best of all the locations...but you already knew that..

I was here for 2 dozen donuts,I had a coupon. The frozen drink looked so good I ended up purchasing that it was delicious and well worth the money. I am glad I stopped the facility was clean and the donuts were hot!
Georgia B — Google review
I don’t know what’s going on, but this location used to always have hot donuts, but for several months now they have not had any hot donuts at all. I could drive in good faith over 30 minutes to this location and they would have hot donuts all the time now they don’t have any at all 98% of the time . I came here just to see if anyone else complained
Trinita M — Google review
Unfortunately, I will not be coming back to this location. I came to this Krispy Kreme location instead of the one located in Hoover because it had the “hot” sign on in the app. However, when I arrived, not only did they not have warm donuts (still showing “hot now” on the app), but they did not have any glazed a donuts at all. It was 8-8:30 pm on a Friday, and they close at 11 pm per google.

Made an order for special seasonal donuts for my son who was coming home to visit in the morning. Show up and told they cannot fulfill my order. No apologies. Absolutely no sense of they cared. They should have contacted me and let me they could not fulfill my order. My last visit a few weeks ago at this location was a positive one. Today was a zero due to lack of care.

Long-standing local counter-serve chain known for its burgers with signature sauce & sweet tea.
I get the Milo's sweet tea at the grocery store a lot where I live, so when I saw that they had restaurants, I had to go! I got the double cheeseburger meal without pickles. The meal comes with their seasoned crinkle-cut fries and a drink. I got the sweet tea, and it was just as good as the one in the stores! They also had unsweet tea and lemonade, as well as a fountain for coca-cola drinks. The double cheeseburger was very interesting! It came with the Milo's sauce, and it was very messy, but it tasted good. The onions were alright, but I think I would have liked them grilled instead of the way that they came. We placed our order at the counter then received a number, then our order was brought to us. The place was very clean and busy! I definitely would come back to this location or another Milo's.

I always say that I’m going to review food and never do, BUT Milo’s is hands down has the best chicken nuggets I have ever had!!!! It was super moist and juicy! The flavor is amazing! Oh yeah, did I mention that their fries are now my #1 of all fast food or restaurants also don’t forget about their signature sweet tea!!!! The staff was so courteous, friendly and professional especially both Ayanna and Corearris who provided us an amazing dinning experience! Milo’s!!!!

It’s been 8 years since I’ve been to Birmingham and I stopped at the first Milo’s on the way in town. Mama I’m Coming Home was playing as I pulled in. No way I was going through the drive through…I went inside and had the pure perfection that is the original double cheeseburger combo, fries, apple pie, and half sweet/half unsweet tea on their porch. Extra Milo’s sauce to dip the fries in. Perfection! I once calculated this and I’m pretty sure that I’m about 1/16 Milo’s based on the number of times I had eaten there in my previous 33 years (give or take for all you cell biologist) so I felt like every cell in my body was crying out in joy at the pure deliciousness of this meal after 8 years in a food desert sans Milo’s.

Well, here's my experience here: dry hamburger, fries too salty, I should've looked in the bag before we left, I won't go back to another Milo's.
Brain T — Google review
I didn't think Milos would get so bad but here it is. Mllos what are you doing? The food I ordered yesterday was so disappointing . I'm old enough to remember Milos burgers having that extra piece of meat on them full of sauce and fresh onions, boy those days are gone. Seriously 6 bucks for a plain cheeseburger? I guess it's a little cheaper if it's not delivered but come on one small patty a few onions, cheese and a thimble full of sauce. Really? Ordered burgers and a chicken tender meal. The only plus was the chicken which was fairly good. The burgers on the other hand a complete disaster. The biggest issue was they were very UNDER COOKED. Last thing you want to see on ground beef is pink and undercooked. You're going to make someone extremely ill if that keeps going on. Asked for extra onions and sauce on the burgers and got neither. Wow how Milos has fallen, and what's with the famous sauce it does not taste like it used to. Congratulations you've ruined a once amazing product. I won't be coming back for these very overpriced low quality burgers.
Ted B — Google review
Okay, the only reason I'm doing 4 stars, is because I love the food here. However, the service on the this particular day and time, was not it. Me and my partner are traveling from visiting family and decided to get Milo's for the drive back to North Carolina. We went through the drive thru and Stephanie, rushed us through our order and had a poor attitude. When we got to the window, my partner asked her how she was doing and she completely ignored him. I thought she was just having a bad day because of a rude customer that came through before us. We were told to pull around to wait for part of our order. When we pulled around and parked, my partner asked me if I wanted a bite of his pie, and said he would go get one for me. He walked inside to order me 2 apple pies and Stephanie huffed and puffed when he said he wanted to get 2 more pies. I'm not sure if she was having a bad day, or had an issue with us specifically, but she definitely needs an attitude check. I get that food service is hard, I've been there, but that's no excuse to treat your customers like that when they've done nothing wrong. If you're having a bad day and can't put your attitude on check for one shift, go home. Amazing food, but poor service today. Between 230 and 3pm on May 16th, 2025.

I usually love this location and been coming here for years but today I had an issue with money that I was unaware of but the manager bought to my attention immediately. I came back with the payment but felt like and was treated like a criminal form the manager as the employees stared. I tried to apologize but he couldn’t even lift his head up to acknowledge me as he scurried over to check the money multiple times. Empathy and acknowledgement goes along ways, you never know what someone is going through. I probably won’t be dining at this location anymore just because of the manager how he carried himself.

Great food with friendly staff. My only complaint is recently they got rid of curbside delivery and I can’t be bothered to sit in the drive through for 20+ minutes on my lunch break. Will be supporting other local CFAs that aren’t as busy as this one.

What a great experience! I stopped to pick up breakfast for my family and myself and because I found out that there was a gluten free option for my daughter-in-law I went inside to order to make sure I ordered correctly. The sweet lady taking the order was so sweet and very helpful but I was especially impressed with the young lady getting the items to place in the bag! Olivia watched the person making our order and immediately corrected mistakes made in touching the gluten free order with the same gloves used to make the regular items. The person in the kitchen must have been new and still didn’t quit grasp how important it is to keep gluten free items from contamination. Olivia to the rescue! She was on it and with patience and a smile!! Thank you Chick-fil-A 5 Points for a very tasty hot meal and a big thank you to Olivia for looking out for my daughter-in-law and helping your co-workers! Wendy Smith

Not really excited about my order today the shake is pretty good with the exception of the size of the shake. I wish they would bring back the larger shakes in addition to whatever have two shake size. Also my fries were not really great and cold and it seems as though they have changed their recipe for the way they cook their fries because they’re a little bit different texture and taste Not to Chick-fil-A normal standards. Please go back.

As a dancer who tries to eat healthy, Chick-fil-A is one of my go-to fast food spots! Their grilled chicken wrap is honestly a lifesaver when I need something quick but still balanced—it’s packed with protein, fresh greens, and a whole wheat tortilla, making it a great option on the go. Pair it with a fruit cup or a side salad, and it’s a solid meal that doesn’t feel heavy. Of course, sometimes I have to get waffle fries because, let’s be real, they’re iconic. The service is always fast and friendly, and I love that Chick-fil-A has healthier choices without sacrificing flavor. Definitely a reliable spot for a dancer on the move!

Absolute WORST customer service I have experienced yet. I called in to request a receipt for a previous purchase and was told they were “too busy” to help me so I would have to call back at another time. I then asked for their email to send them information about what I was requesting and she told me she didn’t know the email. I asked her to ask someone for the email address and I heard her call to someone in the back and she said to the other employee “this lady is doing too much”. I have NEVER had a worse experience at Chick fil a. Wish I could give negative stars.

Staff was extremely pleasant, we got our order quick and it was accurate and delicious. The dining room service staff was working hard to keep everything clean and tidy! Bonus was that they have a small play area for kids! Just what we needed while waiting for a doctor's appointment at UAB!

Working/living right beside this CFA has been fairly convenient for a quick meal. Recently I’ve had problems with mobile ordering and today really pushed me over the edge to write this review. Upon arrival what seemed like two managers tried to locate my order. I paid with apple pay and upon my arrival hit the button to start preparing my order. It then states “We’re sorry we can’t check you in. Please talk to a team member”. The manager states my order was cancelled even though I never cancelled the order. My options were to get in line and order it again????? These were my last few dollars I was spending before pay day. So no I couldn’t reorder with the charge still showing as pending. Pretty poor customer service and wish they cared about their guests because this was in no shape or form my mistake.

Customers praise the consistently exceptional preparation of the Spicy Italian sandwich, which they find highly enjoyable. Additionally, some patrons have experienced efficient service and fresh food at Jimmy John's compared to other popular chain restaurants like Subway. This has led to recommendations from satisfied customers that Jimmy John's becomes their go-to eatery when traveling with sports teams or attending games.
I had a mobile order and when I came up to the window I was greeted so kindly by Orlando. My food was exactly how I ordered and even with the chips I wanted being out of stock Orlando made sure I was taken care of. I work nights at the offices beside here so a good meal goes a long way and to be looked after so well it means a lot. I will definitely order from here again.

The people are fantastic. I love the sandwiches and I eat one almost weekly it’s so fast and convenient. I usually order a sweet tea but for the past few months it hasn’t been available due to the machine being broken. I’m unsure how this is still an issue… the staff has been amazing calling to ask my alternate drink but it’s very frustrating for me and I’m sure them to have to take the extra time to call each customer to see what the other option would be… I have to say the delivery people know me at this point so they have been amazing when I am unable to answer to use my last choice because they remember me so well… might say something for me… I have had a few occasions I’ve ordered from another establishment because I knew there was no tea available though so I encourage management to FIX THE TEA MACHINE! This is beyond ridiculous on how long it has been out of order.

Ordered a sandwich around 12:30pm the sandwich was not right omw home at 740pm I attempted to get a replacement or my money back. Sage (manager) attempted to give me some tomatoes bc he said that was the only thing missing off the sandwich I told him no thanks. Luckily the assistant manager offered to make me a fresh sandwich how I originally asked for it to be made. Sage is simply ridiculous 🙄

🌟Top Rated Reviewer🌟 💔 NEVER ORDER FROM THIS STORE. It's constanly slow. What Jimmy John's takes an hour and a half to deliver food?! This time, after an hour, we ended up driving to the store and they wouldn't give us the food we paid for because the said the delivery driver was still on his way. We drove back home, STILL NO FOOD! We waited another hour for the"dank" driver to arrive, so I guess he was busy smoking instead of delivering. We didn't eat 'lunch' until 5pm 😭 2. 5 hour wait for Jimmy John's? NEVER AGAIN. 👍if helpful, thanks!🙏

Nothing But Noodles is a fast-casual eatery that offers a wide variety of customizable Italian, American, and Asian noodle dishes. The pasta options are consistently delicious with an array of flavors to choose from. Their spicy Cajun pasta with chicken is always a crowd favorite. The service is attentive and they strive to satisfy their customers' needs. The atmosphere is lively and enjoyable, although the AC system can be quite noisy and somewhat bothersome.
This was the first time that I have eaten here at this location. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating. The atmosphere was very calm and inviting, and the food came out with large portions very hot and ready to eat. I personally have the Shanghai noodles, adding beef as my protein, and found it to be delicious. There appears to be something for everyone and you can tailor your options with whatever type of protein you enjoy best. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for something unique, different and focused on dishes that include noodles.

We were greeted at the register and patiently had our order placed. The customer service was unmatched to any place I’ve eaten. Our waiter Nene was very kind and allowed me to use their items to create my review video as I am a content creator. Food was decent, but they have really let the inside of that restaurant go downhill. The bathrooms were stopped up and they smelled like sewage. There was no sweet tea. The food was great. I got lobster ravioli and Sharon got shrimp scampi over pasta. We shared a pear salad with was fresh and cut the richness of the pasta. Their beer and other bottled items was ice cold and the service was very good. I was not impressed with the price. The ambiance is more of casual dining kid friendly but the price was more high end dining. I did not take off a point for this because the food was really good.
