Museums
Non-profit organization
The Birmingham Museum of Art is a top regional museum in the United States, offering an extensive collection of over 26,000 artworks spanning ancient to modern times. Visitors can explore diverse cultures through its rich array of Asian, European, American, African, Pre-Columbian, and Native American art. The museum's mission is to deliver an exceptional cultural and educational experience by curating and showcasing high-quality works of art. Additionally, the venue features an elegant sculpture garden for visitors to enjoy.
The Birmingham Museum of Art is a wonderful part of Birmingham that holds a collection of international arts and culture. The building and location is conveniently place by tons of restaurants and parking. We attended The Candle Light concert while visiting tonight. The venue is the perfect size and intimate setting. No matter where you were seated, the view of the stage was excellent and easily viewed. The staff was friendly and helpful, most of all, the facility is clean and well maintained.

We enjoyed our first visit here. Because it’s free 💙, we only toured the first floor, saving the rest for another visit Compared to my hometown of Montgomery, this museum had more variety. However, the security guards walk through with distractingly loud walkie talkies. Also I was standing by accident too close to this really boring green sofa. I didn’t notice it was beeping at me until a security guard rudely informed me I was standing too close. Move the sofa out of the way. I was two feet away and in no way going to endanger the sofa. Train your staff to kindly let guests know they are too close We had read there is free parking but we didn’t know where it was so we ended up paying $3 in a garage just past the theater next to the museum. No big deal…just note that you may want to figure out where the free parking is

One of the coolest art museums out there. I love that it’s free to get more people through the door but also accepts donations. The Asian hall is my favorite to walk through but surely everyone can find something to be inspired by in this house of many treasures. I try to visit every time I’m in Birmingham and highly recommend you do the same!

I would say it's one of the best free museums I have been in I just wish they had marked bathrooms a little better but that might have been from them setting up for a wedding

Very nice place. If I worked downtown I would visit often. Great place to walk around and see great art. Lots of ceramics as well. Spent several hours just trying to see most everything.

Who knew Birmingham offers one of the best Museums in the country. I was amazed and pleased at the collections at this wonderful Museums.. Entry to the Museum is free and so is parking! Prepare to be bedazzled
Jake R — Google review
Was a lot of fun, I can see I'd have two different experiences with and without my children, but fun both ways. Highly recommend visiting and keeping up with events here, and on the weekday, we only paid a few dollars for parking in the public parking deck right past the museum.
Tim P — Google review
We had some time to kill in the area and decided to stop by. Great decision. Everyone was so helpful, the museum is well kept and had good exhibits. My family and I said we would like to come back to spend more time there.

Gardens
Nestled in the heart of Birmingham, Alabama, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens is a sprawling 67-acre green space that boasts over 12,000 plant species across twenty-five distinct gardens. Visitors can wander through lush landscapes featuring outdoor sculptures, water walls, lily ponds, and more. The gardens offer a diverse range of backdrops for photography enthusiasts and serve as an ideal setting for nature photography or family portraits.
This was one of our favorite highlights from our trip to Alabama. This place is absolutely stunning and amazing. And the best part is it is completely FREE!! Hats off to the city of Birmingham for providing this attraction for the cost of a donation. The grounds were well taken care of and easy to walk. We were a little lost at first then we found our way around. I'd walk this place at least once a week if I lived near it.
Brian D — Google review
The gardens are the perfect place for a fall orchid show! The Alabama Orchid Society recently hosted their annual show there and it was great as always. Lots of beautiful orchids displayed in creative exhibits for the visitors to enjoy. Orchid sales were brisk as buyers were faced with the difficult decision as to which ones to purchase. Such a great dilemma!! Congratulations to the club and the gardens for a fabulous weekend of beauty.
Tom H — Google review
Beautiful gardens! We stopped here on the way back to the airport after a quick visit to UA in Tuscaloosa. So glad we came! First, it’s free (which is impressive for the quality of the gardens). Second, the Japanese gardens were amazing. We go to gardens like this often, whenever we visit a city. These were some of the best.
Aaron C — Google review
This was my first visit to the gardens, and as a newer transplant to Alabama, I couldn’t have asked for a lovelier introduction. I visited on a Saturday morning around 10 a.m., and there was a smaller presence; not overwhelming, just the way I like it. Even without exploring the entire property, we spent nearly two hours wandering the grounds. The rose garden is especially captivating, a fragrant and colorful haven that invites you to linger. The greenhouse, while charming and full of character, could use a bit of extra care for some of its plants though. The Japanese-inspired section, with its graceful bridges, bamboo, and koi pond, was a highlight — tranquil, picturesque, and thoughtfully designed. Every corner of the gardens seems to whisper an invitation to photographers; in fact, we noticed a family having professional portraits taken during our visit. (For those planning similar sessions, it’s worth reviewing the venue’s photography guidelines in advance- see photo) Before leaving, we stopped by the gift shop, which was an absolute delight, filled to the brim with exquisite, one-of-a-kind treasures. I could have easily spent another hour browsing its elegant displays. What a hidden gem, tucked away in the quiet residential streets of beautiful Mountain Brook. A visit here feels like a step into serenity itself.
Renee H — Google review
Great place for a two hour visit before a flight. Fairly easy to get to and lots of free parking. This is a pretty large park with a lot of different areas with various themes or regions of plant species. My favorites were the Japanese Garden and the indoor tropical gardens. But there are paths everywhere, water features, and a lake with Koi and turtles! Nice gift shop that is more like a garden center. Plenty of bathrooms. And this whole place is free! Incredible!
Phillip L — Google review
Birmingham Botanical Gardens is an amazing place that features more natural beauty than I could hope to describe in a single review. Rose gardens, Japanese gardens, vegetable gardens, ponds, and so much more are here, and everything has obviously been cared for by folks who take real pride in their job. The Conservatory/Greenhouse is closed on Mondays, so plan accordingly. If you're looking to clear your head and enjoy the abundant beauty here, I'd recommend showing up early on a weekday. There are plenty of walking trails to explore. The on-site gift shop has something for everyone at any budget. They also offer lots of plants and garden decorations. There is a map available at the entrance as well as a QR code to a map to help you navigate the grounds. Bathrooms are available and are fully functional. I'm already looking forward to the next time!
J H — Google review
So this place was very beautiful in a lot of areas. I was disappointed the zoo was closed on a Monday? Not sure if they’re affiliated but I did see a sign. The store I really liked with the plants, pumpkins etc. I didn’t really care for the customer service from the women in the store working in there. I do believe this gardens could be so much better but hey there’s no fee to get in.
Sandi C — Google review
Absolutely so much fun! Great for a nature run! Their gift supplies also had a great selection of nick nacks and plants for my garden!

Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark is a former blast furnace plant that operated from 1882 to 1971 and played a significant role in the growth of Birmingham, earning it the nickname "The Magic City." Today, it has been transformed into an arts and education center offering various classes and guided tours. Visitors can explore the towering smokestacks and industrial infrastructure while learning about the city's history.
This place is frickin awesome!! Was searching for attractions to see while in Birmingham waiting for a Barons game and this popped up. We are so glad we decided to check it out. Enjoyed the history lesson it gave us. So glad they made this a landmark instead of tearing it down. Yeah, it's just some rust, but part of American history that's worth preserving. Nice visitors center as well. Go explore it, even if it seems a little spooky.
Brian D — Google review
Absolutely amazing place to checkout. We opted for the tour guide, otherwise it’s free to walk around. Tons of signs with historic information. Very helpful if you’re too busy looking around and not fully listening 😂
Christina S — Google review
A neat piece of alabama history. It feels a little like walking through an abandoned factory (it would make an incredible haunted house for halloween). I really enjoyed getting to wander around the grounds.
Ashlie D — Google review
We did the self-guided tour. They give you a map, so you can wander around or follow the path. Made it nice for moving at your own pace. The gift shop and museum are nice. There's a lot of info without overwhelming you.
Ira S — Google review
Went to the day of the dead festival today. I just love this old historic plant. They used to have the best haunted house. I wish birmingham would have more events here.
Jeremy B — Google review
We went down to enjoy the first annual Chicken Festival. We have a great time. There were plenty of food trucks to choose from along with other vendors. We bought the VIP to be able to arrive early and potentially beat the crowd. All in all we had a great time.
Terrence K — Google review
Kind of boring but something free to kill the time. Did the self guided tour. Interesting if you want to learn what an iron mill used to look like. I walked two miles to see it and spent about 30 minutes there.
Alan B — Google review
It was neat. We were there for a paid private GS event. We carved sand molds and they poured the iron, making plaques to take home. The furnace and iron melting and pour were fun and the iron worker was extremely informative and passionate and knowledgeable about the process and answering questions: 10/10 and 5 stars for that part! The tour around the rest of it was kind of boring though, and the video is old and kind of meh. The girls and adults were all bored of the tour, they would have rather just walked and looked around the grounds at some of the art and structures without having to listen to the info maybe it was just the energy of our tour was off 🤷‍♀️. The tour is outside in the elements so be aware of that. There are some uneven places on the paths, places where the metal grates are raised a bit at the edges and there are tracks from old mine/train carts around so be aware and watch your step. They said everyone had to wear pants and closed toe shoes to the iron pour, but they didn't enforce that and the tour guide and several others were in shorts so wear what you want for the weather, but definitely abide by the shoe rules. I wouldn't go again for the tour, but would do the mold and iron pouring experience again.

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is a powerful and dramatic museum that chronicles the struggles and triumphs of the civil rights movement through multimedia exhibits. Located near the 16th Street Baptist Church, it memorializes the heroes of the movement and showcases ongoing human rights history in the United States. As part of the Smithsonian museum group, it meets high curatorial standards and offers informative permanent exhibits, traveling exhibitions, lectures, film screenings, children's events, and more.
Nestled in the heart of Birmingham, this museum offers a poignant journey through the Civil Rights Movement, a visit that both uplifts and weighs heavy on the heart. As my partner and I walked through its thoughtfully curated exhibits, we felt the weight of the city's painful history—its stories of violence, oppression, and resilience echoing through the halls. The experience begins with a compelling eight-minute video, setting the tone for what lies ahead. From there, visitors are invited to meander through a carefully designed path, allowing for a personal exploration at one's own pace. Each room unfolds a rich tapestry of history, featuring a captivating mix of videos, photographs, and informational plaques that invite deeper reflection. Amidst the sadness, there are moments of hope and inspiration, reminding us of the strength of those who fought for justice. The museum is a space that encourages both contemplation and engagement, offering countless opportunities to see, touch, and photograph the artifacts of a struggle that shaped the nation. It’s a visit that is not only important but essential, leaving a lasting impact long after you step outside. You can enjoy a very colorful and change of pace art installation at the end. They had Day of the Dead while we visited and it was beautiful.
Ellie H — Google review
Worth the money! Brought back memories of what i learned in grade school. Also a somber reminder of the things people went through to where we are today. I am very appreciative of the new knowledge gained. I think it’s important for Americans to know this history because it’s American history. Progress and Growth. Cheap street parking out front! Also across the street from the church Martin Luther King preached!
Adam B — Google review
I took a day trip to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute in Alabama, and it was truly a moving and educational experience. The museum chronicles the civil rights movement in the Deep South, highlighting the courageous actions of individuals who fought against inequality and stood for justice and equal rights. Though the building shows its age in places, the exhibits are impactful and thoughtfully curated. One of the most striking displays contrasts the educational environments of Black and white children, providing a powerful visual representation of systemic injustice. Other exhibits recreate settings like a segregated restaurant and public transportation, offering a sobering look at everyday life during that era. The museum also pays tribute to many key leaders of the civil rights movement, sharing their stories, struggles, and enduring legacies. During my visit, I was fortunate to see a special quilt exhibit, which added a unique and artistic perspective to the narrative of resistance and hope. Admission is under $25, making it an accessible experience, and there is a small gift shop on site. While the merchandise selection is limited, it includes a few books and souvenirs that reflect the museum’s themes. If you’re in Birmingham, this is absolutely a must-visit. It’s an important stop not only for personal reflection but also for educating the next generation about the sacrifices made for the rights many of us now take for granted. The experience is both humbling and inspiring—definitely one to put on your list.
Tero P — Google review
Very informative and enlightening! I recommend for all cultures if you want to know the history of civil rights in Alabama.
Dexter C — Google review
Great to learn the history of the Civil Rights movement here. Also gives a good overview of how this movement inspired others around the world. And to remind us to not stop marching.
Christy M — Google review
Wonderful and informative museum! We’re from Kentucky, so it was great to learn more about the history and formation of Birmingham, especially leading up to the Civil Rights Movement. The exhibits were very well put together — powerful, moving, and at times heartbreaking. If you’re in the area, this is definitely a must-visit!
Ashley B — Google review
This was my first visit to the museum in 8 years and much of the exhibits remained unchanged. I was disappointed in the movie compared to the last visit when it was in the auditorium. The new movie was shorter, language was more appropriate and not as comprehensive. The staff was friendly and helpful and answered my questions and definitely worth the admission price. There's so much to see in this museum and thoroughly enjoyed the contributions of AG Gaston and how much he loved Birmingham and his success as an entrepreneur. I look forward to my next visit to this museum and hopefully, the auditorium will be completed.
Stephanie S — Google review

Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve in Birmingham is a sprawling 1,038-acre urban nature sanctuary offering a peaceful retreat and outdoor adventure. The preserve features over 12 miles of hiking and biking trails, old mining sites to explore, a modern nature center with educational programs, and a rustic pavilion for gatherings. Visitors can immerse themselves in the diverse plant and animal life while enjoying scenic views along the Quarry Trail, which runs along the ridge of the mountain.
As someone who spent a bunch of time in Colorado, this is very decent (very easy) hike. You have plenty of options hidden in forest with bunch of oak, walnut and what not trees. It creates nice shade and trails are well marked. You can have nice overlook over Birmingham while your car is on a safe place. Pretty enjoyable in September weather while very close.
Stefan M — Google review
Had a great time visiting this nature preserve today! The area is well-maintained, with a pavilion and restrooms available, which made the visit convenient. The trails are clearly marked and easy to follow. I especially enjoyed the overlook where you can catch a nice view of downtown and the Birmingham airport. It’s a peaceful spot, perfect when you want to step away from the city or just need a break from your usual routine. Really glad to have a place like this nearby.
Jesper C — Google review
Great overlooks included the best view of the city from a trail. The rock quarry views are great and the trails are well maintain. I recommend going in the fall for color change and winter also gives you more views you cannot get at other times of the year.
Josh R — Google review
Coming from Florida, we're only accustomed to flat lands. So being able to hike on a mountain is a blessing. My two kids who are 12 and 7 never hiked before didn't have any problems hiking up to the scenic view. We didn't take any other paths as we're pressed on time. But it was well worth the day hike.
Xang K — Google review
Checked the website to ensure it was open, only to arrive and find the indoor nature center was closed. This was after paying the $5 plus tax for parking. It was very disappointing to see the well made signs telling visitors it was closed; this situation has obviously existed for a while. With that being the case, why wasn't this information posted on their website? They also do a very poor job of showing first time visitors where all the different trails begin. Only one trail starts after the sign "Trails Begin Here". All in all very disappointing trip that we will not be making again. Hopefully the proprietors will include the information of the facility closure on their website before visitors make the trip. To be clear, I was on their official website.

Great trail right outside of Birmingham. It's perfect for short 3 to 5 mile hikes

Beautiful area to hike! Trails are very well maintained and marked very well. For those that may need them, there are benches along the trail to take a break on and signs advising which trail you're on. The quarry provide some outstanding views also. A great way to spend a day! 5.00 per day parking, payable on line from parking area.

Red Mountain Park, located in Birmingham, AL, spans 1,200 acres and offers a wide array of outdoor activities for both locals and tourists. The park boasts 15 miles of picturesque trails that wind through forests, meadows, and historic mining sites. Visitors can embark on a thrilling zip-lining tour or navigate the treetop walking course in the Hugh Kaul Beanstalk forest. Additionally, the park features designated areas for large and small dogs to roam freely.
The trails were marked pretty well. They have good spots with info maps. Kinda wish the rope walks were open, we walked to mine 13 and was pleasantly surprised as to how cool the area was, was a nice break from the 90 degree temp.

Coming from out of state we were a little disappointed that it hasn't been kept up. The hiking was fun and the historical sites are decent when the signs are provided to explain what they are. I did read the zipline was closed prior to visiting but was not expecting it to be falling apart and with no hopes to reopen.
Misty L — Google review
Loved the sensory trail and how inclusive it is (was a scout's project). Visited one of the mine shafts and it was such a nice cool breeze after having walked for awhile. There was some reading on the history, too.

Our furbabies loved it and we did too! Clean and peaceful. Several groups were hiking. We'll hike next time.

Beautiful, will kept trails! All 3 of my kids under 9 enjoyed it. There were lots of maps and trail markers to find your way. Many picnic spots. One of the park employees told us the adventure stuff had to close during covid and fell into disrepair. Even though there were many cars it didn't feel crowded. It was a perfect nature getaway. We'll be back for sure!

Hiking and mountain biking trails wind through scenic landscapes, from dense forests to panoramic overlooks, providing both challenging terrain and leisurely strolls. The park’s well-maintained trails are clearly marked, making navigation easy while encouraging exploration.

The perfect alternative to Oak Mountain State Park in case you can't go to that one due to paying for a ticket but that's no big deal, this is the best option. Scenery/Atmosphere: My god is it so gorgeous, the view of Birmingham never gets old, the park usually is pretty old due to the railroad history it used to have and that makes it interesting for people to learn, there are structures too but you probably shouldn't stand or go near it for obvious reasons. Accessibility: They have multiple trails, hiking, mountain biking, even a dog park, the park opens early and closes near evening but I'm sure they increase the time near Spring or something because it's still so cold this time of the year. I really don't know why I haven't been here and reviewed it yet, but here yah go!! 😎

This is a focal point of the Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument. It is a short walk around the Park to see signs and statues describing what happened during the demonstrations. Such a sad time in our Country's history!

Great historical place / memorial / and monument in Birmingham and a good accessible park, too. Lots of history surrounding this area as indicated with the informative monuments placed around the park and numbered for your convenience. Adjacent to the civil rights institute and 16th Street Baptist church.

Wonderful park featuring and commemorating historical moments of the Civil Rights Movement. Guiding you along the way is a tour made available by calling a number. Also, the park is with close proximity to the 16th Street Baptist Church where the 4 Little Girls were killed. (See Spike Lee's movie for more background if you aren't aware of this sensitive and significant event in history). Very interesting and thought provoking. 5 stars

I accidentally found this park while looking for a place to eat my chicken from the chicken spot. The weather was very nice beautiful day lots of squirrels running around . I finished my meal and I decided to walk around there was only a few people there mainly homeless men trying to take a nap. I didn’t let that discourage me I ventured around took a few pictures and plan on coming back for the full experience when I had more time. Overall, it is a lovely park lots of education on civil rights.

♿️This is a historic park in the middle of the Civil Rights District. It is all ♿️ accessible as everything is paved and the crosswalks have ramps. Parked in front of the Civil Rights Building and started walking towards the park, passing the Sixteenth Street Church along the way. It's not a large park, but every piece tells something about the history of Civil Rights and what people went through during this time. There is a tour available through Red Clay Tours and they showed up while I was there. I would recommend the tour as well as just going on your own. I believe I caught part of something their tour does and it was riveting. I'm not going to spoil it for anyone. The fountain does not work and that's really a shame bc it would be beautiful in action. There are office chairs just sitting in the strangest place on a stage area. There are benches and garbage cans available. I would recommend the park as well as walking the entirety of the Civil Rights District if you haven't all ready. They have restored so much, but this park is your starting point.

Be sure to use your cell phone to follow along with the QR audio scripts that follow each art piece/statue. This is a very good outdoor exhibit of the historic civil rights struggle in Birmingham. The park is located directly across the street from the church that was bombed and the civil rights museum. I am glad to have seen this and am somber but at the same time so very proud of those that struggled so much for the gains they achieved.

This bustling market offers everything from fresh produce to artisan goods and specialty foods. Visitors can also enjoy live music while exploring the diverse offerings on Saturday mornings nearly year-round.
Stopped in for the farmers market on a Saturday morning. Bustling and lively with many wonderful shops and eateries represented. Pet friendly area with parking located on the streets.

From the moment you walk in, the vibrant energy of local vendors, artisans, and farmers creates an atmosphere that feels both bustling and welcoming. The market offers a stunning array of fresh produce, artisan breads, cheeses, and unique handmade goods—perfect for foodies and craft lovers alike. Every Saturday, the air is filled with the aromas of freshly roasted coffee, sizzling breakfast tacos, and baked treats that make it impossible to leave without sampling something.

Upscale shopping and some unique local collections. We showed up as the farmers market was ending but will come back. Hop city close too for brew and some great food truck pizza. Also looked like some really cool professional spaces if you’re looking for office space.

Moss Rock Preserve is a 349-acre nature preserve in Birmingham, offering a perfect balance of nature and community. It boasts abundant forest systems, streams, waterfalls, and diverse wildlife. The area is home to four rare plant species and a unique variant of Little River Canyon Sandstone Glade, one of only 35 occurrences worldwide. Boulder Field provides rock climbing opportunities for all skill levels.
Very nice park and hike. We went on a weekday and only saw a few people. The limestone boulders were huge and very interesting as you come in but hike to the bottom to see the stream and cross the bridge for the two waterfalls. Very pretty and calming. We definitely will be back in fall for the colors.

This is an incredible place for beginning young hikers and old alike. The rocky landscape and waterfalls make it exciting, refreshing and a great place to immerse herself in nature. It’s very convenient to get to as it is just off the interstate, but it feels like you’re far from everything. There are many hiking trails and you don’t have to worry about getting dangerously lost, because you’re surrounded by roads on all sides within a few miles. Bring the kids, bring the camera, bring water and snacks, wear good shoes. You’ll have an amazing time.!
Chanda M — Google review
Loved this trail! Did the 6 mile loop which took about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Kids would love this for climbing the rocks. Great low impact walk. Parking was plenty—on dirt and gravel. There were porta potties available.

This one of the most unique walking trails. There's no other place like it. Take your children there. They will love it.
Huey P — Google review
This is a great way to spend the day with your family. Some of the trails are fairly simple. However, there are also some trails that are much more challenging and require quite a bit of climbing and endurance. I would not recommend this area for anyone with physical disabilities or children who require a stroller. My personal recommendation is to go hit the trails for a mid-morning hike, then finish in the afternoon with lunch at Vecchia pizza, right next to the Preserve Parkway trailhead parking lot!
Eric S — Google review
This is a great place for a simple hike. My kids love the creek and I enjoy the diverse plant life. It also helps that there's a great pizza place across the street for when we're done with our walk and hungry.

From out of town, the waterfall wasn't really a waterfall as much as a leaky faucet at the time but its best to go like a day after a good rain. Really beautiful rock though!

Railroad Park Foundation is a nearly 20-acre green space located in downtown Birmingham, celebrating the city's artistic and industrial heritage. The park offers various activities such as jogging, picnicking, and sunbathing on its nine-acre open grass area. It features beautiful water elements including a lake and ponds, as well as streams. The park also has a paved rail track ideal for walking and running around the perimeter.
I love the fact that there is so much space to work with in this park, it feels so open and spacious. About as good as a park as you're going to get with a little touch of railroad and train noise to go with it. 🚂🚋🚃🚋🚃🚋🚃 Environment: Everything is so colorful, photographers will love it here, and so with families, kids and people who regularly exercise. Wish I could taken more but there was just so much beautiful scenery and nature. I've seen people with towels laying on the grass because apparently it is very soft so that might be a cool idea for stargazing. Not really much else to say, except the fact that it is a city park and they are underrated however coming at around 4:30 PM on a weekday, that is a lot of people. Whenever you're in Birmingham, PLSS GO!! 😇😇

4.5 stars Great park centrally located across from Regions Field. Nothing was open as far as vendors or even restrooms as far as I could tell, but security was walking around. Great place to jog, walk your dog, and generally just hang out. Large playground with plenty of water features and accessible walking paths. BLACK LIVES MATTERS painted on the street, which I appreciated... thank you Birmingham. Quiet day on a Saturday late morning but definitely got a little busier by the time I left.
The S — Google review
A very clean, nice and open park. Tons of trails and different scenery depending on what side of the park you are on. There’s grassy fields, a couple of playgrounds, a fitness area, ponds with fish in there and tons of benches and shady trees. We saw the train pass by on one side of the park, you have the city landscape in the background, a coffee and other little shops across the way, a stadium across the street. There’s free parking on the street on the weekends.

Great place to visit in Birmingham. There’s tons of walkways and places to rub/walk. There’s ponds all around too, so there’s a ton of wildlife. I liked how there were things to do around the part too, so you can grab a coffee and walk around, go to a baseball game or go grab a beer or bite to eat. Super kid and dog friendly, great place to visit if you’re stopping by Birmingham.

Spacious, beautiful and has lots of small creeks/runoffs that really add to the beauty! The restrooms were cleaner than I expected, although there wasn’t any paper towels available. Air dry was the way! LOL There was a gentleman set up to take photos for Easter. He was charging $30 for 5 photos that he edited and airdropped to your phone. I was so glad he was there offering this service! I loved the nostalgia of the ice cream trucks there! Expect to pay $3-$5 for an ice cream. I remember asking my parents for CHANGE for the ice cream truck. Now I have adequately aged myself. 😆

This is such a great place to come if you want to play outside with friends and family, get coffee and walk around the track with friends, picnic and yap, study, work out, take photos, or if you are just wanting to get outside and lay in the grass. Everything is so accessible and the grounds are always in perfect condition. I've come here many times over the years and it was just today that I actually took a moment to read the signs scattered around the park- there's some interesting stuff on them (at least I found them interesting). Its a great way to get out of the city without having to leave.

Farmers Markets
The Farmers Market at Pepper Place in Birmingham is a popular outdoor market that takes place every Saturday, rain or shine. It offers a wide variety of fresh and healthy foods from local farmers and food producers. In addition to shopping for produce, visitors can enjoy live music, cooking demonstrations, and browse through handmade local goods from over a hundred vendors. The market provides an opportunity to meet the people who grow the goods and is a great place to spend a Saturday morning with plenty of things to see and do.
Produce is from local growers who live within an hour of the market. The vibe is ❤️ 😍, "real chill". Just remember like many markets of this sort it is VERY VERY busy and crowded (think concert but for food:). Speaking of which, there's now live music! Too, normally if you're not there by 7 am when it opens, maybe 7:30, you will be driving and circling around to find a parking spot.

Freakin' outstanding! Produce was BEAUTIFUL! Breakfast choices were 'a plenty! (Nice to find a Bloody Mary!) Prices seemed fair enough... I wish we were more local so we could have taken advantage of the delicious looking fruits & veggies! As an aside - this place is 1000% better than an airport terminal for people watching. LOL! When baseball brings us back to the area, we'll return to the market!

The Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, located in an art deco space in Birmingham, celebrates the state's rich jazz music heritage. The museum showcases exhibits on legendary musicians such as Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, and Miles Davis. It also offers educational programs like Jazz Master Classes and introductory sessions for school children to pass on the love of music to future generations.
The AJHoF was under renovation for a very long time but just before Christmas of 2022, it opened up for a Jazz concert for the first time in 6 years. The entrance is now much brighter, bigger, and feels like a inviting but efficient place to cater to an audience. The concert (Curtis Lundi) was top notch and I am looking forward for the AJHoF to once again become a vital part of Birmingham's music scene.

Jazz Hall Radio formerly WVSU has significantly changed it's "Smooth Jazz" programing to a blend of classical jazz with some Smooth Jazz mixed in. At least when the Tuxedo Junction hour was scheduled you knew what was coming so you could listen to this type of Jazz or change the station. Then, You could later switch back when 'Smooth Jazz' was back on. After many years of listening to WVSU I'm sorry to see them morph to blended genres of Jazz. Oh, well there's always the 'Serious Jazz Radio'option.

Had a great time here. Kids had a seasonal pass and parking and drinks were free. For being a Sunday it wasn't really busy. We got there at 10:30 when they opened and left at 3pm. Loved the family time

I drove two and a half hours to visit this park. It was extremely clean, the free soft drinks and refills (all day!) and sunscreen were a super nice and much appreciated bonus. The food was really good and reasonably priced especially when you factor in that you do not have to pay for drinks. I was also extremely impressed and truly amazed at the diving show! The divers are super talented young men and women and were so nice to come out and meet the crowd after. My grandchildren were so excited to be able to meet and talk to them. The wave pool was a great attraction and there are many water rides for all ages and thrill levels. The water park is definitely the draw as the amusement side is much smaller in comparison. Everyone in our group loved the Laser Maze and the little ones loved the kids train ride. My grandson was especially fond of the water slide the Drop Zone. Overall I highly recommend this park and would consider it a must go to if you are in the area !!
DB S — Google review
It’s a nice place to take the keys to specially some real quick and face, but the food was not great to me because the food was not fresh. Some of the tables was not clean off, but like I said it’s just somewhere quick to take the kids too to have a fun day. I feel like they need more food attraction like Kenny Apple stores all day will I go back again, just to go somewhere quick and get rid of the kids yes but but it’s just somewhere quick to take the kids to and I feel like they need more rides to be open For the price that you pay. You will assume some of the rides were open, but they would not, and it was one of my biggest problems, but like I said, I would go back again and hopefully it will be a little more better because of the food. My food was cold. It was not fresh and they just give you old fries just to get rid of you out of the line especially your chicken tenders.
L*ndy89 — Google review
My daughter and niece had fun with their Girl Scout troop yesterday until it started raining. Before I share the bad part, I will say, the tenders were good, my girls enjoyed their cheeseburgers (though...they dont have ketchup??) and I appreciate not being required to dish out money over and over again to keep them hydrated (free drinks!) My 9 year old had a growth spurt so she couldnt enjoy a number of rides on the "Adventure" side but she did enjoy what she could ride. I love that parking is free, and although I always bring my own sunscreen, knowing the park offers a free backup is good. You can bring in your own, empty, non-glass cup to fill with the free drinks, which I recommend because they've run out of cups on 2 of our previous summer visits. Now...the frustrating part. It rained yesterday. Before the thunder even started, the lifeguards made everyone get out (Why? They're already wet). Per their website, the attractions must be shut down for 1 hour for you to get a pass to come back at a later date. We waited because we were hoping to just STAY at the park; we hadnt seen 1 show yet and the girls really enjoyed it last year, plus they hadn't visted all of the attractions on their 'list' yet. Also, visiting Splash Adventure is consistently one of the "rewards" they request after a successful cookie booth season. For the girls, this is their 1 chance, each summer, to visit Splash Adventure so we like to stay from open until closing. But once we realized the thunder wasn't stopping and then saw a flash of lightening-we were out of there. We went to guest services (as a group, as required, per their policy) to find out if we could get passes to come back....nope...everything must be closed for 1 hour, at that point it had only been closed for 50 minutes...but each ride must remain closed, awaiting clear skies, for at least 15 minutes after you hear thunder or see lightning (per one of the lifeguards)...we approached guest services once we saw lightning. Follow me, because I promise you my math IS mathing...if we must be lightening and thunder free for 15 minutes...and we just saw lightening...and we've already been waiting around doing nothing with a bunch of kids for 50 minutes...??? You get where I'm going? Even if the skies magically cleared up, by the time you open the rides back up-they've been closed for over an hour. Unfortunately, we were herding cranky kids, outside, in a thunderstorm (the group has to come up to guest services together, remember? So no sending the kiddos and a parent to the safety of your vehicle or to wait in a shop) so we just decided to leave early and leave without the return passes. We've already told the girls that next year, they're going to have to choose a different reward.
LaTonia W — Google review
Visited the park with my kids on a Friday. The park was it super packed, and we were able to ride all the water rides without much of a wait. It was a rainy day, and for the first hour, rides were shut down due to lightning. Not a big deal, but got a little frustrated when I heard a radio that a lifeguard was using say that they'd been clear for a while, they just hadn't put the word out. I appreciate safety closures, but I would think they'd get customers back to the fun as soon as it's safe. Otherwise, the staff was ok. Park cleanliness was not too notch. Bathrooms were pretty gross. I know it's a water park and people drip water all over the place, but I saw staff just sitting around doing nothing (quite a bit), and I feel someone could have been assigned to keep facilities cleaner. There was also a hand sanitizer station that looked like a hazardous waste tub (see pic) The free drink offer is pretty awesome. Overall, we had a good time because the ride lines were so short, and the kids had a good time. Minor improvements could make it even better.
Jarrad C — Google review
Really disappointed in the way the park is being operated. What was once a very magical place has been reduced to an unrecognizable mess. For starters the “Main Street” looks like a ghost town. The “gift shops” are empty and don’t sell anything to show you’ve visited. All of the novelty shops are gone and closed, but yet there’s a ridiculously placed glass blowing shop..? All of the old tattered signage is still in place showing what was once a themed area but is now a faded peeling vacant lot. What kind of park gift shop doesn’t sell cups/magnets/keychains? As for their advertising and marketing… I’m not really sure what the decisions are being made there… but honestly it’s awful. Why advertise as a theme park and water park if it’s 95% water and 5% park? When you look at your signage/logo it looks as tho it’s 50/50. BE PREPARED-all of the rides here are pack n go carnival rides. Everything is gone. Hurricane, Zoomerang, vertigo, stratos-fear, all of the original kids rides, the Ferris wheel, the log flume, the wild river rapids, buzzsaw falls, the pirate ship, the swings and so many more are ALL GONE… many of which are just literal empty concrete foundations where the rides used to be… and for their focus to be on making it a water park, that’s chopped as well. The landscaping has been totally changed, the giant bucket and play area which was the face of the water area has been reduced to what I can only describe as a glorified McDonald’s play place. But hey, at least they made sure to leave that very bucket sitting on the ground to taunt you that your memories have been destroyed. Thanks. I am just really in awe of just how much has gone wrong at this park, it really is so sad to see the Rampage just rotting when their own website states it is set to open “2025” is it that hard to fix your own website? I feel it was a complete waste of an off day and my earned money… I am happy to have seen the park so many times in the glory days. To have seen Disney Stars live in concert at the parks amphitheater, riding the Ferris wheel during a concert! Which is now covered by faded, leaking water slides.. yay! As for what they “have added” cheddar chase is a cheap copy of a ride called “crazy mouse” upon further inspection you’ll notice it’s a pack n go carnival ride they’ve sat down in zommerangs grave. The “YoYo” ride is already being dismantled and sold off I’m sure so who knows what’ll be next in the what was once the Vertigo’s home. The “Galleon” pirate ship ride which is not the original ship ride is BROKEN and has been for the entire season, which with it being new, why? Because they are PACK N GO CARNIVAL RIDES. Rampage appears to be closed for good, many of the employees stated this and that the park has been hosting a fundraiser for it… the ride was covered in weeds, trees and branches. Just sitting rotting over the park. And what was the idea for the hurricane gravesite? A whole bunch of rotting gnome houses? Like what is going on in the main office at this place. Hope the theme park finds its theme again and manages to hire some competent people in the higher ups to breathe some life back into Magic City’s only theme park.

We had a wonderful time during our stay other than this one instance when we were riding the Scrambler and experienced two of the rudest people/employees we could have ever imagined encountering. Aside from their draining and exhausting attitudes, they told my son and his friend (10 year olds) they didn’t need to use their seatbelts. This was not only unprofessional but could’ve lead to a very dangerous situation. One of them also asked “can I not read” since I went down the wrong line, in which I replied “I couldn’t read” because I see nothing wrong with someone who may suffer from illiteracy, it was just her smart mouth trying to make someone feel less than that really gave me a bad vibe. I wouldn’t have even said anything had it not been for the improper seat restraint situation. I hope these ladies find another job where people, especially children, aren’t the full focus. I truly hope that everyone could find their calling and become the best versions of themselves while doing so, however this doesn’t serve in the best interests of an amusement park by having employees with little to no safety standards or morals can ever be done.

Aldridge Gardens, located in Hoover, Alabama, is a 30-acre botanical garden that was previously owned by renowned horticulturist Eddie Aldridge and his wife. Since opening to the public in 2002, it has become a beloved attraction for visitors. The garden is known for its diverse collection of plants and flowers, with the Snowflake Hydrangeas being one of its most celebrated features.
We visited on a weekend just before dark. There was no wait to get in and it wasn’t crowded at all. The garden has several paths you can take your time wandering on. We visited on a beautiful day and stayed about an hour since it’s not too big. We really loved the interesting statues and the view by the small lake.

The half mile trip around the lake well worth it, unless very wet usually can stay dry going around. Free to get in. Restrooms not far away to the left as you go a little past the first sculpture garden. Often there is a rainbow effect to their fountain spray

We took a morning stroll through the Aldridge Gardens and were delighted by the beautiful flowers, trees, birds, squirrels, and fish jumping in the lake. There are plenty of picnic tables and a smaller trail for children that includes a fairy garden. This gem is definitely worth adding to your bucket list.

While the Taste of Hoover is only held once a year it is an opportunity to try over 40 local businesses all in one place. With that being said what better location than Alderidge Gardens to hold this event. Since there is limited parking there are frequent shuttles between the shopping center parking lot with Trader Joes and Alderidge Gardens. There is live music and plenty of food and drinks with seating all around. I look forward to next year to see what local businesses will be participating in the 2026 Taste of Hoover.

One of the most beautiful parks in Hoover, AL! I love taking my morning walks here.
Naomi B — Google review
Such beautiful sights and if you ever wanted to enjoy mother nature, this is the place to go to. Apparently, I didn't know these gardens were around until I noticed that everybody was going to here and decided I wanted to give it a try, pretty small but sweet. Atmosphere: You feel welcome, no tickets needed, the entry is free and you can enter anyway you'd like, parking is fair and simple too. Lots of animals around like geese, turtles, ducks, etc. Experience: I like the "In Loving Memory" of all the people that were once alive and have sadly passed away, it is to remember those who were in the military, army, air force, navy, marines, etc. Options: You can walk, bring a pet, or ride a bicycle around, the garden is not big similar to the Birmingham one but it's definitely worth a treat.

This is a wonderful trail with gardens, sculptures and honeybee hives. Pleasant, shady, easy walk.

Wow what a beautiful garden area! Perfect for a solo adventure or for a family. It is manageable to take children and let them explore in a beautiful natural space. You can even feed ducks and turtles! This would be a beautiful venue for an event if that is what you’re looking for, or for a day to day outing!

Arlington Antebellum Home & Gardens is a must-visit for architecture enthusiasts and history buffs alike. This 1840s Greek Revival style mansion offers a glimpse into the Civil War era with its lush grounds and impressive architecture. The site also doubles as a museum, showcasing an exquisite collection of decorative arts from the 19th century. Visitors can take locally-led tours to delve into the history of the home and its rare decorative pieces.
We had a wonderful time today enjoying the beautiful grounds, complete with a vegetable garden! The trees and flowers were Beautiful!! The house was just amazing! The tour had a video to watch and a gift shop before we took the tour. It was a 5 out of Five star!! Lastly, the staff was top notch and so friendly and interactive!! We loved it and would go again and take friends for a fun day exploring our history!

Visiting Arlington House in Birmingham was a complex experience—both fascinating and heavy with history. The house itself is a well-preserved example of Southern antebellum architecture, and the grounds are beautifully maintained. However, as a Black visitor, I couldn't help but feel the weight of its past. Arlington was once a plantation, and while the site does a good job of highlighting the historical significance of the home, I would have liked to see a deeper acknowledgment of the enslaved people who lived and labored there. Their stories are just as important as those of the wealthy white families who occupied the house. That said, walking through the rooms and seeing the period furniture, artifacts, and historical documents gave me a strong sense of Birmingham’s history. It was a reminder of how far we’ve come and how much further we have to go in telling a more complete version of the past. If you visit, I recommend taking the time to reflect on the untold stories that spaces like this hold. Arlington House is worth seeing, but I hope to see a more inclusive approach to its history in the future.

I had such a fantastic time exploring Arlington Antebellum Home and Garden! It’s definitely not the largest or most extravagant estate I’ve been to, but it’s worth seeing if you’re planning a trip to Birmingham or live there. All the staff I interacted with were phenomenal, and I had such a great time talking to a volunteer gardener when I visited. Overall, nine out of ten because the location is really bad. It’s in a run down neighborhood, and I didn’t feel super safe once I left the gates. Note: -You’ll spend about an hour here including the 20 minute video. -Tickets are $5 for an adult and $3 for students. -If you collect postcards they have some for sale that aren’t on display.

Ironically, we showed up on a day they were closed for an offsite event. However, one of the caretakers opened up everything and allowed us to take a self guided tour. We really enjoyed the experience, and we had the entire place to ourselves. I am very grateful to the gentlemen for opening everything and giving us insightful information about the site.

A great stop off to visit this historic home and garden right outside of Birmingham. We went on a weekday and had the place to ourselves. I would say to plan for an hour if you want to take your time. The house was interesting to self tour but what really made our visit was the fantastic staff. They even let us pick some veggies from the garden!

Rotary Trail in Birmingham is a half-mile urban green space that connects two of the city's attractions: Railroad Park and Sloss Furnaces. This project, completed for the Rotary Club's 100th anniversary, transformed a vacant railroad right-of-way into a landscaped walking, running, and biking path. The trail features public art and benches along its route, making it an ideal spot for leisurely walks or photo opportunities with the iconic 'Magic City' sign.
♿️ Everything about this trail is accessible, from the crosswalks to the sidewalks and bridges. There are even ramps up to the tables. The green landscaping was beautiful and there were the fledgling trees that will be amazing as they grow. The further you go, the more you'll find. If you look up, you'll see the taller buildings of downtown and it's quite a contrast against all the green landscaping. There are 2 tunnels that provided much needed shade from the blistering heat of midday. Went at the wrong time of day for sure. There was a slight breeze and it really helped. At the end, are a few places to grab a drink or meal, but no place with a walk up window to get a water. It was very hot. There are sculptures everywhere and right at the end is a table meant to be shared by all the community. We continued on and walked part of the Hugh Kaul trail. There are young trees that provide no shade but will in a few years. The sun was high and it was the heat of the day. I love graffiti art and if you do too, you'll find it here. I'm excited to see what they continue with the blue design on the Hugh Kaul. Will finish it at night because it is a lit trail and I want to see the sculptures on that trail that are light up at night. There are plenty of new apartments being built all along one side. I'm excited about all these new places to walk that were there but just wasted space. It's 12 blocks total to get to where you see Sloss furnace. 24 to walk back. The entirety is ♿️ accessible. Easy to walk. Level for those with mobility issues. I added some photos of what you'll see along the way. I have also found the parking spot for scooters and the bicycle repair stations. Beautiful trail, excellent landscaping, a must visit if you haven't been yet.

Rotary Trail is a vibrant and inviting urban trail that has become one of Birmingham’s signature outdoor spaces. Stretching through the downtown area, it seamlessly combines modern design with natural elements, making it perfect for walkers, joggers, cyclists, and anyone looking to enjoy a bit of greenery in the city. The trail features wide, well-paved paths lined with lush landscaping, benches, and public art installations, creating a visually engaging and welcoming atmosphere.

This is a very nice walking area. It's very pleasing to the eyes and I felt safe the whole time. There are a lot of pretty flowers and birds to sit and enjoy. There's also some little play areas for kids. They have tables and chairs to eat and relax. Overall, this is a nice place to relax or even get some exercise walking or biking.

I really enjoyed biking this little city. This trail was a brilliant idea and well done. It's a busy spot for bikers, runners, dog walkers, and kids in strollers. There's cool art and murals, it looks like a well used and well maintained area. Thanks Rotary club of Birmingham!

This is a very nice trail in a great location. I was out around 8am and the weather was perfect. I like how they have painted the sides of buildings and created sculptures along the way. They also have tables and seating all throughout the beginning of trail. There is also a siting area at the historic site near the end of trail. As a cycler the trail is much too short. I road through downtown to obtain mileage. It was nice to have a change of scenery; trail. I highly recommend using this trail!!

This was a really cool feature to come across! There was an incredibly bad storm in the area and I was able to wait it out underneath the bridge. There was a skate park, picnic areas, walking paths, pickle ball courts, and more. I was able to do interviews for my Mental Health Tour I am working on.

It has an open and clean environment with various attractions, including a dog park that requires vaccination proof and an entry fee. Very clean and nice place to take the family for a walk/Bike ride. The playground is huge and they have a big dog area that they are still building. We enjoyed walking and seeing the lights under the bridge.

This may be the most disingenuous attraction the city of Birmingham has to offer. Public usage, private ownership. They close at 7, but not just the skate park and pickleball. This includes what appears to be public, unblocked benches and sidewalks. How dare I want to use a bench at 9pm. I didn't even know I was in this park at the time. No signs, no posted hours, nothing to signify I wasn't on public property. Just wanted to sit down after work on my way home. I honestly thought the 1st guy was kidding till 2 more showed up and demanded I leave. Crazy world when sitting on a bench is something that can close.

Saturn, located in the vibrant Avondale area of Birmingham, is a trendy music venue with a retro-modern vibe. The venue features an adjoining coffee shop and bar called the Satellite, offering a midcentury modern atmosphere and serving local brewery beers. With a capacity of 2,100 people, Saturn has hosted diverse acts from indie rock bands to comedy shows. The venue boasts excellent acoustics and sightlines from all vantage points.
Had a fantastic concert experience here. Plenty of games, board or console to play before & after the concert to pass the time. Not a bad selection of drinks at the bar, & decent bar food too. They always have great lineups & different genres for everyone. I've seen folk groups, electric groups, & metal/rock.
Chanse L — Google review
They have a great calendar with lots of variety of artists. The crowd is is good, and I have never seen a fight inside or outside. I don't know much about their food but they have nice bartenders and plenty of nooks to sit and have a conversation before or after the show. They have a nice eating area outside. Typical for a downtown location, the parking is sparse but if you're creative and don't mind walking a block or two, there are plenty of spaces available.
Justin E — Google review
♿️Fantastic venue. Sound system was a little much standing near it, but my gods it was an amazing show last night! Bartenders are excellent and friendly. Lots to see and do. Easy access to outdoor patio if you smoke or don't and just need air. Light and sound system guys are amazing. I am very appreciative of one of the employees standing at the top of the stairs. He told me where the ADA side was but it was too late to get through the crowd to get there. Just for reference, it is on the left hand side. He also snapped a pic for me as I could not see well and I am grateful. Got some fantastic video of 10 Years on their 20th anniversary tour. I wanted to get them to sign my leg, but they were so busy. I met the drummer from Kamenar. Twin brothers, amazing show, full of energy. Wish I'd gotten a photo bc they were so much fun.

This place is super neat! Never been to a venue quite like this before. Came for a concert and left with wonderful memories. The bar service was great and there are so many board games and video games to play. The concert hall was very spacious and the sound quality was spectacular! The way this place is set up is perfect. Clean bathrooms and friendly staff. They have free water scattered around the venue, which is such a wonderful thing so people don’t get dehydrated. Over all this is a wonderful place! 15/10

We saw Of Montreal August 2nd, and it was an excellent show! Great sound and lights, as usual. We've seen Animal Collective and Black Midi there as well. It's a great place to hang out and play vintage video games or board games as well. Highly Recommended !

Good and friendly service. The drinks refreshing with the perfect amount of alcohol, without being overbearing or strong. The sound in a place that small was surprisingly Superior. We had a blast. I will definitely see another venue here. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of 5 is there needs to be more seating available in my opinion

What a special experience. The Holy Spirit just made a way and led us there. Cristi Ramis gave us a tour. She has such a love and passion for what she does. Bought a bag of Golden Flake curly Q’s authentic sweet heat bbq fried pork skins that had no flavor so I added hot sauce for taste and upon eating them I felt a funny taste in my mouth, the pork skin had so much hair on it, I got sick to my stomach.

Very disappointed in Golden Flake I love the sweet heat chips and today I went and 2 bags made some dip only to find out there is little to no seasoning on the chips. I thought we'll that was a bad batch so I went to a different store and bought 2 more bags same thing. Now I read these comments and seems to be a problem across the board. Lost a LONG time customer today used to be the BEST barbecue chip you could get now you might as well buy plain. So long Golden Flake it was good while it lasted.

When we saw the Statue of Liberty Replica from I-459 it caught our interest. We were able to take a photo from the side of the interstate but could tell there was more. Fortunately we took the short drive to see the park. A great replica statue made of bronze and a wonderful scouting memorial dedicated to the Eagle Scouts. A great park to visit.

You can see the statue from the interstate but it is definitely worth the short drive to it. There is ample parking there. I saw some others report that the gate to the statue itself was closed when they were there, but it was open when I went by. You could walk right up to the base of it. An extra bonus is the Eagle Scout Plaza. It has walls and walls of the names of those who have earned the rank of Eagle Scout in Alabama.

I really liked the Memory wall with all of the Eagle Scout names. The grounds were very maintained. Around the statue is closed off, so you can't get very close. The statue is 1/5 the size of our Lady Liberty, but very beautiful! Not far of the interstate, a must see if passing through. The shop wasn't opened when I went and I was the only person there. Very peaceful and surreal.

Very nice public park with deep history. Across the street from the Birmingham Art Museum and like the court house, it has a lot of water features that I'm sure look great in the summer when running. Lots of seating and areas to soak up some sun. Only a couple unsheltered hanging out during my visit.

They have homeless there, but they don't bother you. There's some nice stuff to see. Emphasis 7th day Adventist church goes there every Fourth Saturday to feed the hungry.

It's a beautiful place. Too bad it's filled with beggars and indigent people. Very dangerous place.

I went to the Steel City Jazz Concert at Linn Park and handsaniter stations throughout the park were scattered in various locations which was very convenient.

Great park in the middle of the city! Lots to walk around and I see that it’s a popular place for seasonal festivals for the city! Definitely worth stopping by!

Alabama Veterans Memorial Park is a poignant tribute dedicated to honoring the brave souls who have served and sacrificed for their country from the 20th century to the present day. Located just 20 minutes east of downtown, this serene park offers visitors a tranquil escape from urban life. As you stroll along its peaceful walking trails, you'll encounter striking memorial statues and the Hall of Honor temple, which proudly displays over 11,000 names of Alabamians who lost their lives in battle.
♿️ Beautiful memorial and the trail that winds throughout is paved with bricks. There is a ramp to get onto the trail and it is mostly leveled out. No steep hills. 2 handicap parking spots available near the entrance. There are so many Eagle Scout projects here, I only took a few photos to highlight these young men's efforts to make some very useful, wonderful things for the men and women who fought and sacrificed their lives for war. The memorial itself is something to see. It is a short winding trail that is wheelchair accessible and easily managed by those with mobility issues. There are benches along the way to stop, rest, reset, reflect. The art and the quotations on the inside walls are inspiring. This is a must see if you have not already been here. You can also bring your retired flags here and deposit them in the box available. I believe one of the Scout troops finishes disposal.

What a neat and unique place to visit. Quite and beautiful. Very well done. Worthy of seeing. A good reminder of what our service men and women give for freedom.

Beautiful trail and walking area. Memorials are outstanding. Leave plenty of time to read the medal or honor stories and take in the monuments.

Beautiful, yet haunting memorial to Alabama's veterans. The sounds and serenity of nature, with numerous benches and resting places along the path to the memorial itself. My favorite local place to walk, to remember, and to meditate.

East Lake Park is a spacious green area featuring a large fishing lake, swimming pool, sports amenities, and a playground. The 45-acre lake is home to Black-crowned Night-Herons and offers opportunities for birdwatching. The park provides tranquil walking paths around the lake with benches and a pier for fishing or relaxation. It's considered an underrated gem in Birmingham, offering peaceful surroundings and serene sights, making it perfect for exercise or leisurely strolls.
From my childhood to now. I'm able to share this experience with my grandson
Mara M — Google review
It's still a beautiful park and lake. Haven't been since my childhood as we lived in East Lake and that was THE park to take your children to go play. It's a mile all the way around the lake, which is cushioned with the tiny gravel. You can walk out onto to the pier above the water to fish or rest. There is one with a gazebo covering it for a shady, tranquil spot. There are benches on the shady side of the lake. Unfortunately, the giant spray of water is no longer there in the middle. I guess the pump stopped working. I saw tennis courts in one area and several playground areas for the kids. I found where they had planted new trees as some of the older ones are no longer there. During this visit, there is a giant tree that must have fallen during one of the recent storms. Would love to see this area cleaned up a little more and the lights that go around the lake replaced. The original stonework bridge that used to be the main entrance off 1st Ave is still there. There were city workers there replacing boards on one of the piers, so I know they are trying. This area is handicap accessible as it all flat terrain and there are small ramps in several places to get onto the walk way around the lake. Not sure about restrooms, but there is a nearby building with seating and picnic tables and I thought this also may have held the public restrooms as well. I'll have to make another trip to explore the rest of the park. There are several ways to get into the park. I got off at I-59 Oporto Madrid exit and turned onto 4th and then 80th and there were parking spots and easy access to the lake right there. But, I noticed many possible parking areas and ways into the park itself. As far as ♿️ accessibility, this would be fairly easy to get around. If you use a walker or cane, it is also accessible and level, so it would be an easy way to get some steps in with a pretty nice view of the water the entire time. This is also the 3rd park I have seen the yellow headed heron. Which seems unusual to me as I've never noticed or seen them in any area before until this year. But, a gentleman stopped his bike ride through the park to show me where their nesting. So, maybe it's not as uncommon as I thought or maybe I'm just starting to notice these beautiful birds. As you can see from my pictures, there are lots of ducks and their babies this time of year. They weren't afraid and just sat for their portraits. Except for one mallard that took flight right as I tried to take his picture. The turtles also were camera shy, but there were plenty sunning themselves on water logged branches. Would love to see some flowers added to this park to increase bees and butterflies.

Been around Eastlake park all my life much has changed due to the changes in society still love to visit many many fond memories here one of the few places I can go and reminisce with my whole family pray that the current and future city commission will revitalize and bring back the glory which has long been forgotten of this landmark

The Livelady Center holds our annual alumni event every year at EastLake Park. It's a very spacious area. And the lake is beautiful. Has a sand volleyball court. Plenty of parking. Had public restrooms. Also had a covered picnic table area that could be used for get togethers like birthday parties or possibly a small family reunion. I also recently went to the dragon boat races back in August here. And it was a great time.

Took my grandson fishing to this beautiful park. It has lovely flora and amusing birds and ducks occupying the island. The piers are fabulous to fish from.

Pretty good park in North Birmingham. Has a nice walking track with ducks 🦆 and geese 🪿, and a couple of long docks for fishing and leisure. Homeless aren't incredibly bad here but people seem to think roads and paths are optional and drive all over the place.
Kevin G — Google review
Loved it as a kid. It is still a beautiful park, despite violence, etc. Be aware, and go with someone. I went 2 days ago,so serene. Grounds keeper needs some up keep.
Kimberly T — Google review
I like the family atmosphere. Scenery is gorgeous. Many reunions going on all the time. Very historic. I just Wish the city would spend more time on cleaning the birds poopoop off the walking trail. Also I want to do something to refurbish the playground. It's in bad shape.
