Sandan is a well-regarded training restaurant in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, known for its dedication to supporting disadvantaged youth. It stands out as a favorite branch in the country and offers an exciting and inventive menu. The staff is knowledgeable yet sweet and shy, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant also offers half-portion options, making it easy to sample different flavors. There are plenty of vegetarian choices available as well.
Amazing experience. We had to eat quickly and leave to catch our bus. When we told this to the staff our situation, they recommended menus that could be cooked quickly. They not only were served quickly, but they were also very delicious. The overall ambience and service was amazing, and we were sorry that we had to leave so early! I would definitely revisit if I have a chance to visit this area again :) Thank you

A phenomenal traditional venue that supports local young people. We had a very pleasant time there. The dishes were served quickly and the portions were large. The best seabass we ate in Cambodia! We were given a refill of water all the time. In addition, when I forgot my backpack they did what they could so that I get it back 🙏Highly recommended!

What an amazing place with great food. We had lunch here everyday for a week and I highly recommend stopping by for a meal if you ever find yourself in Sihanoukville. It’s a training restaurant with local youths learning to prepare food, cook and provide service. They do a great job with it and lots of them find jobs with other restaurants and hotels after graduating from the programme.
Julian S — Google review
I don't really understand why this place is that well rated. It is true that the service is very nice, the staff comes to serve you the drinks which is very unusual. We tried one pizza and the seafood amok. The 8.8$ pizza was frozen and small size and the 11$ amok was filled with too much seaweed. Very disappointed !
Florian M — Google review
My girlfriend and I had an amazing experience at Sandan! The food was absolutely delicious, with a great variety of authentic Cambodian dishes prepared to perfection. The service was exceptional—every staff member was friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. The ambience was lovely, providing a calm and beautifully designed space for a relaxing meal. What makes Sandan even more special is its mission to support and train young people, giving them valuable opportunities in hospitality. It’s inspiring to see a restaurant making such a positive impact on the community. We also appreciated their commitment to sustainability. For example, they don’t use straws for drinks, which shows their effort to minimize waste. It’s small touches like this that make Sandan stand out. Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Sihanoukville—it’s not just a meal; it’s an experience that supports a great cause!
Raul H — Google review
Clearly worth the potential detour - this would seem to be a relatively new location since the previous restaurant would presumably have been closed post COVID. Tried the clams and buffalo and would taste both excellent! Even the regular portion is generous enough for sharing. Presumably the full menu would reach similar high standards in my book this would clearly qualify as ”fine dining” on a very moderate budget! When you feel that you’ve had a great deal on dining the social context of this establishment could easily be the benefactor of your tourist shopping needs as they offer locally produced items at reasonable prices!
Mattias W — Google review
Lovely dining experience, food was excellent, staff were friendly and professional and the atmosphere was like eating in a beautiful garden. It is hot now, but the fans and the shade made it pleasant. We really enjoyed the unique flavors and appreciated supporting an organization that works to help children in Cambodia
Dawn E — Google review
Excellent service from students learning the craft. The food was delicious. Sure it's a little pricey, but think about who you're helping here. Went back for a second visit, same excellent service but the chicken stir fry with spicy basil was a miss. It lacked any heat, was dry and tasteless. I ended up sharing the shrimp-pork and eggplant bites. The spicy cilantro margarita on the other hand was a hit. Go early, before sunset, before the rat comes out, kinda ruined the experience.

Island
Koh Rong Sanloem, also known as "Drowsy Island" in Khmer, is a serene and unspoiled tropical paradise located in the Sihanoukville province of Cambodia. This low-key island boasts long, white sand beaches and a quaint local village. Surrounded by clear and calm waters, it is less developed compared to nearby areas, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a peaceful retreat.
Beautiful beach, the water is so clean that I can see fish swimming under the pier. In the evening you can enjoy the romantic moment by sitting on the lazy chair, drink beer and watch the candles they decorate on the beach. It takes around 45 minutes from the pier to Kohrong Sanloem island. You should go in the dry season because the sea is calmer. I miss this island, I will bring my friends come back soon.
Steven N — Google review
This island is truly a paradise on earth. - I love its crystal clear water, snow-white sand and tranquil atmosphere. There is no trashes on Saracen Beach. During the day I did snorkeling and fishing and sunset The bioluminescence plankton was amazing. But you have to jump into the sea in the dark to see it; believe me it’s worth it. - There are party beaches and quiet beaches so choose wisely based on your preference. - I stayed at La Passion Achariyak Resort. The hotel is very accommodating and offers exceptional services. The staffs are super friendly. It has a nice swimming pool and the beach is super clean and peaceful.
Korng V — Google review
Koh Rong Sanloem is a tropical paradise that still retains much of its natural charm. The island is home to several boutique and luxury resorts, especially around Saracen Bay and Sunset Beach, making it a great place to unwind away from the crowds. Getting here, however, is a bit of a journey. First, you’ll need to reach Sihanoukville, which itself is not easily accessible from Phnom Penh due to limited and often delayed bus services. Once in Sihanoukville, a ferry ride (usually 45 mins to 1 hour) will take you to the island. It’s worth noting that weather conditions can sometimes delay or cancel ferries, so flexibility is key. There are no ATMs on the island, so carrying sufficient cash is a must. Also, internet and mobile signals can be patchy. While much of the island is still serene, parts of Koh Rong Sanloem—like its sister island, Koh Rong—are undergoing rapid development, largely driven by Chinese investments. This could potentially impact the untouched feel in the near future, so it’s best to visit sooner rather than later. Despite the travel hassle, the island’s beauty, clear waters, and magical sunsets more than make up for it.
Vidya H — Google review
This is an honest, non-romantic review (I struggled to find objective and updated info before visiting the island). DO NOT GO. The pretty pictures you see from this island are at least 4 years old, or point to the see in a bright day, hidding all the rubbish and rubble in the shore. I have traveled for years around Asia and know well that some rubbish is to be expected in most beaches, but this is a whole new level. There are mountains or trash everyhwere, incredibly dirty abandoned buildings (not in a cool urbex way), half the island has been abandoned and trashed while the other half is under construction. They have bulldozed BIG part of the jungle to allow tractors to carry turists between beaches, but for some reason these new "paths" are so unnecessarily wide that you could land a small plane there. Also they're so poorly made that it's exhausting to walk in them, it's very irregular and steep, and with zero shade. So you won't see many animals, cause they've either been killed or displaced. The whole place lacks charm. The island is also SO overpriced. In Sarracen beach is hard to find a meal for less than 5$ (this is Cambodia, that's 4 times the price of a simple meal elsewhere). The water seemed somewhat dirty, kinda greenish (or even brown!) where it should be blueish. It's impossible to put your towel anywhere more than 1m away from garbage, it's like the ocean brings in all the waste from nearby cities. I did feel like I arrived 5 years too late the island has been severly ruined. An expat who has lived in the island for a decade mentioned that the Chinese investors abandoned their projects there and moved their businesses to Koh Rong. Koh Rong is indeed way cleaner and more interesting. The jungle remains jungly, the water is blue, there are many beaches to choose from, -some nicely secluded-, and there are more food options a bit cheaper than in Koh Rong Sanloem. In my opinion, this island is a total waste of time and money. The neighbor Koh Rong is way cleaner and more interesting with clearer water and many beaches to choose from, some all to yourself. Also the neighboring islands in Thailand are way nicer and cheaper (Koh Kood, Koh Mak -but perhaps avoid Koh Chang, which has become way too touristy and waters don't seem clean in 2024). If you're really curious about the place, base yourself in Koh Rong, and go to Koh Rong Sanloem as a day trip. You'll save some money, and will spare yourself the sadness of witnessing how a wonderful place has been unreversibly destroyed.
Susana G — Google review
The island is undeniably beautiful, however, it falls short of being the paradise it's often described as. I arrived with great expectations, only to be slightly disappointed. While the white sand beaches are stunning, there is a significant downside: constant construction noise, unfinished projects, and plastic waste. Additionally, if you rely on internet access for work purposes, you may struggle to find a reliable connection.
Markus ( — Google review
Beautiful island bad managed. Have you ever answer to anyone where are the sewer discharges on the dozen resort on Saracen Beach? I realized they are just under the beach. This is the reason why I felt bad smell all along the beach. The trail for Sunset Beach it's NOT 20 min as they say... We reached this beach in 50 min fighting with tons of mosquitoes and mud. The waterfall at the end of the beach it's interesting. We was at Sara Resort for 4 nights. This resort is one of the most expensive in the island principally for the prices of the restaurant. We eated in many other places. One we appreciated was the local fried sweet potato at The Big Easy, we tried also fish BBQ on the beach. This is the first time that I don't know if recommend this place...

Lovely Island! Overall great beaches, tasty food and fun activities 🏝️ Changing rapidly by chinese developers, lots of deforestation and plastics in the ocean & jungle 🌳 Beware, no ATMs on the island, bring enough cash or face a 10% fee 💰

(Translated by Google) Certainly one of the worst restaurants in Southeast Asia in which I have eaten under the pretext of cuisine adapted for Chinese, the chef will serve you products without the slightest flavor. The price is very high and we cannot say anything about the service because as in all these countries people are not able to make a commercial gesture. I ate a beef, without any taste, a chicken which could have tasted like cardboard, or something, oddly enough, only the French fries and the asparagus were good. I know South East Asia very well and Chinese cuisine I can tell you that it has nothing to do with real cuisine. Passons notre chemin

Loved this authenticity of Padang cuisine with tolerable spiciness and moderate saltiness. The rendang was awesome and the trio sambal were superb. I had keripik paru which went perfect with the gulai singkong (cassava leaf curry). Don't forget the tea (hot/iced). It was flown out from Indonesia. The staff were friendly. Very clean room and cosy ambience. Amazing food with a reasonable price. I will come back for sure.

Romdoul Buffet BBQ offers a wide variety of options to choose from, including fresh oysters and different types of meat cuts. The service is decent with attentive staff, and the prices are affordable. Some areas for improvement include the restroom facilities and hoping for English songs from the band. It's a lively atmosphere with celebrations for all ages, offering decent seafood and a delectable cooked buffet that includes seafood without any extra charge. The reasonable price makes it a good value for money dining option.
Impressive selection of truly fresh seafood and meat cuts with accompanying vegetables. Though we would not be claiming to know the tricks of Asian hotpot making like the locals in the neighbouring tables we had a thoroughly enjoyable experience even if the place was seemingly without AC. WiFi and much appreciated small playground for kids. Unlimted soft drinks and local beers all for less than 15 USD. One might wonder what the place looks like at 4 am in the morning half an hour before closing time…
Mattias W — Google review
Good spread especially the seafood which is what we came for. Everything was fresh. Service was excellent, servers were very attentive and even helped to cut up the crabs and prawns which was so helpful. Lots of other meat etc but we just focused on seafood. Recommend to try when visiting Sihanoukville. Didn't rate atmosphere high though because live music was so..ooo loud, became unpleasant and couldn't enjoy dinner during the set. Thankful only had to sit through one set- just keep to recording or lower the volume please.

Amazing meat and seafood BBQ, lots of choices, great staff, thanks 😋😁

What I liked about it : lots of options to choose from. Oysters are fresh. Different types and cuts of meat available. : the service is okay, staff are attentive. : it is affordable. What can be improved : toilet can be better (just a personal choice), hard without an elevated toilet 😬 : hope that the band can also sing English songs, just a little.

Best place for dinner. Only pay $15 dollar, you can eat all dish. Good staff, good place. Lot of dish, so you can all dish you want.
Pande W — Google review
The music here is way too loud , it drowns out conversation and makes it hard to connect with friends. Unless you’re running a nightclub, there’s really no need for that kind of volume. A more balanced sound level would go a long way in creating a better atmosphere.
San P — Google review
Crazy raucous explodes for every birthday child whatever their age. Decent seafood to be had. Also the cooked buffet ... delectable and saves on self-inflicted boiling in hotpot. Would be good to label WC. Value for money, indubitably.
J N — Google review
Reasonable price $12.90 per person. Going to be $13.80 next month. Still reasonable. Buffet and soup including seafood too! No extra charge! 🤤😍

Malaysian restaurant
Hello Asia is a Malaysian-owned cafe that offers authentic Malaysian cuisine, with the head chef and staff hailing from Malaysia. The cafe features a red-themed decor following a recent renovation, providing comfortable seating in a clean environment. Customers can enjoy the convenience of food delivery and utilize the chat system for ordering. The menu includes unique Malaysian dishes such as Nasi Lemak, which comes highly recommended. While also offering some Western-style items, Hello Asia provides an opportunity to experience genuine Malaysian flavors.
I had lunch at Hello Asia and ordered a bowl of curry mee. The curry was rich and flavorful, and the chicken was tender. Overall, a very satisfying meal!

This is my first time I had Malaysian food in Cambodia, especially in Sihanoukville. Hello Asia is not traditional Malay food, it's more like modern-international resto, since they're also sell some western menu. So don't expect to see some teh tarik attraction in here. You can find some Malays classic dish like Nasi Lemak, Mamak Mee, and Roti Canai. But they also sell some Southern Chinese food like Bak Kut Teh and Hokkien Mee. I can definitely recommend you the Roti Canai. The roti (bread) itself is different from the original. It's not crispy or fluffy at all. It's more like prata or flat bread, with some herb and spices in it. The chicken curry is good, it's spicy and savory. The teh tarik is just okay, it's not too creamy and have a small froth on it. If you're Malaysian or Indonesian, you might find that the price is too expensive. But this price is standard in the Sihanoukville, especially in the downtown area. The place itself is cozy, have a smoking area and free wifi, the had wifi too. For payment the accept both KHR and USD.

This shop is useless. In a week 3-4 days they closed. If open also they will said no food after 8pm. Waste of time. Always go to the shop but close

Unique Malaysian tastes in town (you can find other western-style items here though). Nasi lemak is highly recommended. Decent atmosphere in my opinion

I suggest nobody go and order food to this racist restaurant. I never had such a bad experience before. After we start ordering the food….one Chinese lady came and say she cannot allow non Covid19 vaccinated baby enter the premise. I said my baby only 2 years old and only 5 years above baby can vaccinated. Then the staff who took our order… explain to her about the order but she yell at him infronth of us without any reason. Next the worst thing happen. She cancel our order which already accept by the staff and saying restaurant currently very busy with take away order and we need to wait 45 min to get our food. The restaurant is empty without anyone and they ask walk in customer to wait 45 min to get their food ? Me and my family immediately left because never feel so welcome to this place. Anyone have self respect don’t go to this racist restaurant.
