The cafe is right next to a famous western dessert shop called Club Harie so you should check it out as well.

Affordable place, but old building. The room itself was clean, but some parts seemed quite used. Also the railway is just next to the hotel, therefore it can become quite noisy. The staff was very friendly and can communicate in English.

If you will be visiting the Hikone'castle, this place is pretty near from it. Good milk soft icecream in one of these restaurants. They have a parking lot and you don't have to pay for it. The price is not that high but it's not cheap tough .

The main dish was a bit salty for my taste but the vegetables were fresh. The desert was ok, not too sweet. I also ordered the raw hot chocolate. Has a hint of spice. If you like cocoa and dark chocolate, I recommend to try. It was creamy but cannot be consumed too quickly. The portion sizes could have been bigger.

As I am not a vegan, I was rather skeptical initially but I was blown away by their Acai bowl. It was not only visually pleasing, the taste was amazing. It was served cold. You have to try their chocolate cake as is hand made and not found elsewhere. The taste is just unique. The owner is a very friendly lady but the shop is tucked away from the bustling street so you may think you are in the wrong direction. It is rather hidden but if you are a vegan, you will love it, even if you are not, you will find the desserts good.

What makes Hareto-Keto special is their commitment to local ingredients and honest preparation. The raw chocolate (their specialty) has incredible depth without being overly sweet. The preserved traditional architecture creates a peaceful atmosphere that feels quintessentially Japanese. Perfect respite after castle exploring, with food that's both nourishing and indulgent. I am from the United States, however, the owner of the cafe provided smoothies and chocolates during a Kyoto Yoga Teacher Training Retreat that I attended a few months ago. Each day we had a completely different flavor of a beautifully delicious smoothie that was made from fruits or vegetables! Her creativity and passion for good tasting, healthy food is obvious when you talk to her about her food and the quality ingredients she uses! While I did not visit her cafe, I intend to next time I am in Japan. I would highly recommend visiting her to try her chocolates as well! Her chocolates have the cutest shapes and are made with nutritious ingredients.

Pastries are delicious. We loved the angel souffle cake the most- super fluffy, moist, and full of egg flavour! The coffee and chocolate ones were great. We also got the blueberry tart (seasonal) which was not too sweet, and the tart base was super buttery and crunchy! Ambience is a 10/10 as well :)
