Very wonderful bakery shop / cafe like a creation of art. The displayed pastries were so perfectly arranged and looked delicious. The chandeliers, glass work enhanced the look of the boutique further. The open air garden cafe very nice , staff kind and polite , helpful. In the shop the goods are well displayed with price tags so easy to identify. The display shelves are so pretty and the colour combination very unique. Overall this is more like a pretty waffle or bakery museum and I loved my time here. I enjoyed vanilla waffle . Wanted to sit down in garden cafe so had also queued for the waiting line but it rained heavily suddenly so left in the middle and this time happy only with the wonderful waffle, will return next week or soon for a coffee and pastry .

How can this be anything but 5*? The pastries, the service, the setting, the shop, the history, everything is impeccable and the price point is reasonable. I think Meert may be a victim of its own reputation, as it is busy and people clearly expect perfection, but in our experience it lived up to it, and of all our culinary experiences in Lille this will be the one I remember forever.

The mille-feuille was absolutely delicious, and the éclair was good, but I didn’t really like the dark chocolate. I really enjoyed the waffle because it was unique and different from the usual. The atmosphere of the place was wonderful, and the best part was the excellent service. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it in time for lunch.

The food here was decent – both the main course and dessert were fine, but nothing particularly memorable. What really took away from the experience, though, was the attitude of one of the staff members, who came across as quite arrogant. My roommate was like “ at Mathieu you will always have a queue”. He was so right when I arrived and the expectations were high. I must say all the 3 deserts were really tasty, detailed and layered. My personal favourite is Royal Chocolat.

We found this place by pure chance. Had the croissant aux amandes (heaven!) and pain au chocoalt, and eclair to go. Everything tasted so good, crispy on the outside, melts inside, rich flavours, I just can't wait to go back there. Highly recommended!

The best of the best in vieux Lille! You have to try a petit pain au chocolates or a croissant ! You will be amazed! Unfortunately, it has only two tables outside and no space inside but you can grab something and continue wandering around the old town of Lille! Stopped here when passing through Lille because of other reviews mentioning vegan products. Unfortunately, there were no croissants or pains au chocolate (apparently they will again be available on the weekend), but there was a selection of beautiful vegan desserts, and vegan muffins with hazelnuts and dark chocolate. All things we tried were delicious! The shopkeeper was very polite and welcoming, too.

We have their hours plugged into our phones so we always have the best baguettes, breads and treats available! Called into this light and airy boulangerie for a coffee and a pastry. Welcoming staff and speedy service. Coffee tasted good but was cooler than I like, the pain au raisin was fantastic buttery flaky pastry with fruit and a dusting of icing sugar, delicious. Returned next day, had a long black coffee, hot and tasted very good, brioche good too. Highly recommended boulangerie.

A very nice tiny place. They have a large choice of teas and a bit less of other drinks. There've only vegan milk options if I'm not mistaken and the majority of pastries and desserts are made from gluten free flower, so you can eat it without guilt (at least, it's what I do). The toilet is clean and nice. And the nice thing is if you're taking your dessert away in your own container, they make a 10% discount (not a lot but still a pleasant thing).

Having arrived at Lille minutes before noon on a Sunday I had just enough time to visit before closing time. Luckily managed to grab the last vegan and gluten free pastry. They also serve pretty good Babkas. I had the Flat which was excellent! I’m taking a star of because I was really looking forward to ordering bread, which they didn’t have, and it would be great if they upgraded their coffee game to specialty coffee (rather than rely on Nespresso). We came to this patisserie when we first arrived Lille. The cafe has a good variety of pastries, cakes & brioche. We tried a couple of pastries & found a lot of locals had slices of brioche bread with jam & cream. The pastries were decent though nothing spectacular. I must also warn against coffees as they are not what a serious coffee lover would expect.

Gorgeous bakery! This is a beatiful bakery with goreous window displays, a comfortable dining area and lovely friendly staff. We wanted to try Le Mervilleux (the marvellous) but by the time we arrived at the bakery, all the chocolate ones were gone so we had to settle for one dusted with speculoos crumbs. The young man who waited on us told us it was his favourite - and he was right - it was just amaaaaaaaazing!!

Delicious. There are two doors. The main door is for choosing things to take away. There's a second, smaller door where you can go in and sit and order coffee and pastries as well as other specials. The menu was written on a black board on the wall. A great place to stop in and have a break.

Absolutely stunning cakes and presentation. As well as being beautiful, the cakes are also delicious. We tried a moon which was with pecan and the cloud which was coconut and mango. Both were amazing, very light and not too sweet. The amount of work that obviously goes into them absolutely justifies the prices which are slightly higher than a normal pâtisserie. The ladies in the shop were very friendly and happy to explain all the different products. A great discovery for cakes for a special occasion or a gift.

Luckily, Lille accommodated - perfect little spot and relaxed, slow service - exactly what you’d expect on vacation. For travelers learning French, the staff were very kind as I tried to order in French and felt comfortable asking for help with words I didn’t know.

I usually just pass through Lille on my travels, but this time we spent the night—and I’m so glad we did. In the morning, I was really craving that cozy, classic French “croissant and coffee” moment. I started walking through the city centre and stumbled upon this charming little spot. The pastries in the window looked so beautiful, I couldn’t help but walk in. I'm Polish, I don’t speak French (though I’ve tried—unsuccessfully!), but I was greeted by Frida, who spoke the most lovely English. She was incredibly kind and patient, and her warmth instantly put me at ease. It truly meant so much. I had a lot of anxiety about visiting France, but places like this made me feel genuinely welcome and safe—like I belonged. Frida gently let me know there was a small extra charge to sit in and made sure I was comfortable with that, which I really appreciated. I said yes and ordered an oat milk latte and a hibiscus croissant. She even gave me a little milk chocolate on the side. Everything was absolutely delicious—made with care, and you could feel it. Thank you again for such a warm welcome. Your kindness touched my heart and will stay with me for a long, long time.

We chose this place because it has clearly labelled vegan items on the menu. We were hoping for croissants but they were all out (we visited around 3:30pm). I ordered soup of the day and despite constantly checking with the staff that everything ordered was vegan, soup was served with dairy butter on the side, which was not reassuring. Furthermore, I expected the soup to be served with fresh sourdough bread and/or baguette, as the menu indicates. Instead, it came with a large handful of ‘homemade croutons’ which were unseasoned dry bread and tasted very stale. The serving staff were very friendly and patient but we were disappointed by the unclean tables and menu cards.

I ordered a salmon and tuna salad to take away. It was €15. It literally had €3 worth of ingredients (more like a cold side salad), and I waited for over 10 minutes. Very very disappointed. I won’t be coming back. The lady who served me was nice though.

We made a stop for hot chocolate and crepes here today and it was a delight. The crepes station is outside where a colleague makes it in front of you and you can select the flavours and add-ons etc. The outside seating is good but foot traffic makes it in to the area as it's not properly cordoned off. The pricing is ok, similar to the prices at Pauls in UK.

This was surprisingly one of the worst Paul cafes that we have ever visited. We thought that this place would be unique, especially that it is located in Lille-Centre. The stinky odor that you smell upon entering the café is unbearable. Their pastries are nothing exceptional for the price. Everything is overpriced, and they charge you extra if you choose to dine-in, though they don't provide any dine-in services (no toilets as well) . Their tables are very dirty, we could not find a clean table to sit and no one has bothered to clean any of the tables throughout the whole time that we sat down. They are definitely not cleaning their tables regularly, which poses many questions about the safety of their sanitary measures, especially in those critical times of the Covid19 pandemic. I don't recommend this place at all!

We got a Mille feuille and tarte tropizienne which were not bad but the baguette was sadly rock hard, likely because it wasn’t fresh from the same day :( didn’t try the viennoiseries though so maybe we’ll give that a go next time!

(Original) Immangeable !! :/ Tout d'abord j'ai été extrêmement déçue !! Je suis venue pour mon mariage, je souhaitais un wedding cake... j'ai commandé un essai de 10 parts avec la même déco et goût que pour le jour j. Je vais donc comme convenu récupérer ma réservation et là je vois inscrit sur la porte « je reviens vite » ... Bon pas de soucis on attend... Nous avons attendu 1h10 devant la porte. Nous récupérons donc le gâteau et durant nos échanges cette personne a été irrespectueuse envers ma mère qui était avec moi.... Nous prenons tout de même le gâteau l'ayant payé d'avance. Le gâteau était joli je ne peux pas dire le contraire, en revanche il était immangeable !! La crème était horrible, dure et pas mangeable et il n'y avait quasiment rien à l'intérieur même pas de ganache rien quelques bouts de mangues minuscules et un peu de passion mais pas généreux du tout !!! Nous étions 9 pour l'occasion pour le goûter il n'a été mangé par personne !!! Une réelle déception ! Nous avons bien fait de goûter avant je l'aurais découvert le jour du mariage j'aurais pleuré !!!
