Iowa State Fair, held annually in August in Des Moines, is renowned as one of the top state fairs in the United States. It offers a wide array of entertainment for all ages, including live concerts, thrilling amusement rides, and engaging animal exhibits. The fair also features unique attractions such as giant slides and various contests. With over 80 different foods on a stick to savor, it's an exceptional experience that sets it apart from traditional fairs.
I've seen so many good food and a pretty good rides and a lot of good animals.

The Des Moines Arts Festival is a world-class event held at Western Gateway Park, attracting 200,000 visitors annually. It has been recognized as the best festival in the world multiple times. The festival features big-name bands, bold artwork, global cuisine, and activities for all ages. The Creative Zone offers hands-on activities for children such as rock painting and LEGO art.
So glad to go in person again! Everything as amazing as always. So much talent there on so many levels. Free admission and free live music happening all day every day. Plenty of places to sit and rest if you need to. Every type of art from all over. Just love it! There are food trucks, beer, and sweets available all over. Expensive so bring extra cash! The creative zone has many interactive things for kids to participate in, mostly free of charge. There was a big crowd so patience helps. Lots of dogs (which I love, but many others don't). All were on leashes, however we still witnessed a couple dog fights. Scary. Easy to lose track of time there is that much cool stuff to look at and purchase. We look forward to this event every year.

Love this festival! I went twice this year. I took three children and we were busy and having a blast the whole time! Fun for the whole family! So much to see, do, and most importantly EAT! Yum! Parking can be tricky so figure that out before you leave home. Must see event!
Lydia M — Google review
Incredible event for Des Moines showcasing some of the best artists from around the US. Live music from great national acts, food trucks, and more. Family friendly. Great experience!
Bryan Y — Google review
It is laid out very nicely, plenty of room for people to move about and not be cluttered in one area. Parking was easy in the ramps. It was raining and down pouring while we attended, but we just stayed under a canopy to ride it out. Also loved having beer on tap. We enjoyed ourselves.
Michelle S — Google review
4 full blocks of delicious food, cool and wacky art, and loads of fun. It's great for adults, families, couples, singles, and everyone in between. If you stay late there is love music to enjoy as well as adult beverages and more tasty food
Allison B — Google review
Food prices are steep, as are some of the drinks, so be prepared to throw money around at this one. That being said, it is usually a good time (despite the heat), good free shows (love the Host Country!), and always a lot of talent to be seen. It's one of the quintessential summer things to do in Des Moines.
Alicia H — Google review
I have been going to this festival since it began, and it has changed a lot. more music, film festival, more sponsors, etc. it is generally a great event, though I do feel the quality of visual art has fallen some. I realize that is subjective, but I keep seeing the same type of themes and styles over and over. I also did not appreciate having to run the gauntlet of aggressive cell phone and other salespeople at the entrance. just my two cents.
Timothy H — Google review
The Des Moines Arts Festival is my favorite summer festival! It's hard to choose between all of the art, music, food, and kids activities. I highly encourage everyone to stop by and check it out during the last weekend in June.

Wineries & Vineyards
Jasper Winery, located in Des Moines, is a versatile venue that offers an elegant and sophisticated setting for wedding ceremonies and receptions. The property can accommodate up to 300 seated guests on the front lawn, in the on-site vineyard, and covered porch. Additionally, the main event room can host 150 seated guests for dinner and dancing. For larger receptions, an outdoor party tent is available with scenic views of the sprawling property.
Sydney did an amazing job with my daughter’s wedding! I couldn’t have asked for more in a venue! The winery was beautiful, the staff was wonderful. Even with a weather event they handled it behind the scenes and worked hard to make our day perfect. I highly recommend Jasper Winery for any event you want for that special experience!
Angie W — Google review
This was a very nice and comfortable little winery. It is a nice place to hang out for a couple hours. Have a glass of wine sit by their fire, chat with your friends! Their grounds are small but cute. Their wines range on the sweeter side, but there were also a few drier ones. They have red wine, white wines, and ciders. Would be a good place for events as well.
Lee K — Google review
We used Jasper Winery for our rehearsal dinner and it couldn’t have been a more perfect choice! Sydney was wonderful to work with throughout the entire process, and she made sure all of our requests were met. We hosted a casual food truck dinner that flowed between the indoor space and the outdoor area, which was exactly what we wanted. We invited families to our rehearsal dinner, and the kids loved having the green space to run around in. The vineyard also provided a beautiful backdrop for photos. Even though it was a hot day, everyone (about 100 ish people) fit comfortably inside, and Jasper also set up a white tent and tables outside to give us more space. We highly recommend Jasper Winery to anyone planning an event. The space, staff, and food truck option made our evening fun, relaxed, and unforgettable.
Mary N — Google review
I had my wedding and reception at Jasper winery and it was amazing! I would recommend it to anyone looking for an event venue. The staff payed close attention to details and was super helpful and knowledgeable in the planning process!
Reagan W — Google review
3 different parties going on so that made for some significant wait time at the counter but otherwise a good experience. Didn’t love all the wines but definitely found a couple I wanted an entire glass or bottle of. Sometimes there was a good breeze but was a bit warm on the patio. A fan would not go amiss. Otherwise great experience. Thanks y’all.
Jon O — Google review
First off, let me just say that Sydney was absolutely incredible from start to finish. Not only was she extremely accommodating for my husband and I, but she was flexible, honest, attentive to detail, and genuine. Additionally, the bar staff on the night of the reception made sure our guests were safe and enjoying themselves! If you are looking for a place to do your wedding, reception, both, or just host a get together, this is a hidden gem and wonderfully affordable. I cannot be more grateful to the team that made our wedding reception so incredibly special.
Sapna M — Google review
Absolutely amazing! Jasper hosted my only daughter's wedding and reception. Sidney and her staff went above and beyond all my expectations. As a small business owner; I recognize how challenging it can be to meet sometimes unreasonable or just unrealistic expectations...but let me share with you how Sidney and Jasper went beyond what I would ever have asked of them. First, from the beginning; the selection tour and explanation of services was clear and up front. Very few add-ons, or extra charge surprises...it's the venue, the alcohol, and the gratuity; of course catering, decorating, and music is 3rd party. Sidney had her available dates right there and we were able to book the day we knew it was for us. From there, the kids and Sidney met a few times to work out details and verify times. Our event was Saturday, July 4th...they had the band NADAs on Friday, so our rehearsal was on Thursday...once again...no problem. The big day Saturday was a day of weather concerns. Of course we were doing the ceremomy outside and we had a 2 hour window to make the call in or out. Inside, would have been tough for 140 people; they say 150 is the max for inside. I'm not sure how it would have worked. But, we made the call for outside and Sidney and her staff made sure all the chairs were dry. Voila! We made it through without rain...but the weather wasnt over. At dinner a HUGE cell came through and knocked the power out. Sidney was out under the tent pulling our glass vases and flowers off the tables under the tent, dropping chairs, and ensuring our guests all would be fine. Our DJ, Seth from Select Entertainment Iowa was also absolutely AMAZING! He had his expensive equipmemt outside under the tent and yet, selflessly continued to make sure the night was all about our daughter and new husband Mike. By the time dinner was over the power had been restored, Christianis (also fantastic) was serving cake and coffee...the weather had cleared for the night. Sidney went outside and quietly cleared the floor of standing water, set up the tables again; Seth got his DJ system powered back up and we partied the night away like nothing had ever happened. It was miraculous! So yea; when I say Jasper and Sidney go way beyond what I expected...it's TRUE. You won't find a better staff to host your event.
Todd W — Google review
Despite that fact that we had to sit outside in the heat due to a wedding going on, we really enjoyed it. The wine was great and our waiter, Chet, was outstanding. He even brought us a list of local restaurants that serve vegetarian food. My sister and I both ended up buying some bottles of wine.

Live music venue
80/35 Music Festival is a unique downtown event that offers a consistently solid lineup of diverse music genres across multiple stages. The main stage area is covered in tarps to limit visibility for non-pass holders, but the performances can still be heard echoing through the downtown streets. Despite potential changes in location, it remains an affordable and enjoyable experience with street food, cold beer, and great vendors.
This is a consistently solid music festival and has been for years. There's a wide variety of music and multiple stages, so there's something for everyone all day long. It's also a great value, and it's structured in such a way that to can actually afford to go and enjoy yourself. I no longer live in Iowa but I always come back for 80/35.
Jared D — Google review
For me the festival being down town was why I went. It’s somewhat unique in the “festival” scene. Next year they move out west a bit and most likely be like all the all rest and loose it’s charm but we’ll see. The whole main stage area and it’s surrounding fence cover in tarps to keep those who didn’t purchase main stage passes from seeing seeing a somewhat dull lineup for 2023. Thing is you can hear MainStage performers echoing through the downtown streets while they play. So if audio is more important than visual who cares about the about the island in the middle as you’ll be able to hear everything as you wander the streets to and from the 3 free stages checking on some bands which of many are good. A couple side notes: (1) bike friendly with a ‘free’ bike parking area. Ample food truck offerings. (2) decent police presence but more friendly and helpful than forceful. (3) a good vibe and feel that often gets corrupted with the dumbness of a few clowns wasn’t apparent. Good luck at your next festival grounds!
D D — Google review
There has been a limited variety of bands since 2018. It isn't an intentional diversity either, because it mostly bands with white women lead singers. I enjoyed some of them but after a while it seemed like the same band over and over. The festival is decent and they aren't afraid to rearrange things. This year (2019) they put a B stage in with main stage so that there was always music playing. That was a smart move. The downside was that there was no stage with plenty of shade present like in years past. Have gone to festival 6 times and would return.
Joe K — Google review
Kesha sucked, not family friendly when every other word in your music is an expletive(is it that hard to creative lyrics? When in doubt just say f?@k?) and your wardrobe is inappropriately revealing. Mainstage bands weren't that great, wouldn't pay to get into this again, the free stages are much better
Matt B — Google review
Portugal da Man was great performance. Layout could have been better and the heat was tough but great vendors and music!
April P — Google review
I have always enjoyed outside music festivals. This one always has something in about every jendre of music. Something for everyone street food and music and cold beer!

Des Moines' Downtown Farmers’ Market is a vibrant event that takes place every Saturday from May to October. With over 300 vendors offering fresh produce, handmade crafts, and delicious food, it's a feast for the senses. Visitors can enjoy nitro-infused coffee from Watershed Cold Brew and indulge in cheese-stuffed papusas from Papusas El Salvador. The market also features activities like puppy petting and offers a lively atmosphere for couples looking for a unique date idea.
We’re traveling from Ohio and happened to be in town for today’s market. We had a wonderful time and spent hours visiting the booths. My husband and my puppy rated it a 5 out of 5. 😃

Top 2 things to do on a summer Saturday in Des Moines ! Lots of diversity in food, local products and music. Make sure you get a good breakfast sandwich. I took it to go for lunch and go early before it gets too crowded. Visiting from MA sorry I’m missing the state fair.

What a wonderful experience today. Tons of vendors from flowers to bakery goods to German Brat’s to soap’s. Also multiple live music musicians on multiple street corners. So much stuff.

I love the Des Moines Downtown Farmers Market. I go every Saturday that I am able to, whether I plan on buying something or not. I have enjoyed getting a freshly made Sourdough every week, have found some delicious honey that reminds me of the Fynbos honey I get back home, as well as some lovely baked goods, fresh vegetables and there are always beautiful flowers to see to. Very sad this is ending soon, I believe it runs till the end of October and then closes for Winter.

It was my very first time being at the Des Moines Farmer's Market! Such a great experience! Lots of people! Lots of goodies to stock up on! I got the biggest cookie of my life! It's every Saturday from the first weekend of May to the last weekend of October! I'll definitely be back!

The Farmer's Market is always fun. The best advice is to go early. For 2 reasons. #1 it's less busy early. #2 you can park on the street for free until 9 am
Cyndie A — Google review
Spectacular farmers market with a wide variety of produce, baked goods, cheeses, some meat vendors, wares, flowers and more. Loved the food trucks and ready to eat vendors such as the egg roll carts, pretzels, and all the samples !! Super easy parking, we chose a private garage but loads of free space available. Many accessible points of entry as there's a main drag with off shoots from closed streets. My hands were full for the hour we were there, only snatching this one shot at a flower vendor. May - October take a Saturday get up early and experience the market. Honestly reminded me of shakedown at a dead show. haha good times !! Great job Des Moines!
Layla T — Google review
I absolutely LOVE the Des Moines Downtown Farmer's Market. The atmosphere is absolutely charged with hype and fun! There is something for everyone from purchasing goods and wheres to food for your fridge and pantry and food for immediate consumption! There are people galore; dogs and even some cats, too! Shop the tents/food trucks some Saturday morning during the season, purchase some goods, eat some food and enjoy your time outdoors people watching or listening to one of the performers!

The Des Moines Art Center is a must-visit free-admission art museum and school that focuses on modern and contemporary works. It boasts a remarkable collection of contemporary art, including paintings, sculptures, and more by renowned artists like Claude Monet, Georgia O'Keefe, Henri Matisse, and Andy Warhol. Housed in an impressive Art Deco and Art Nouveau-style building designed by Eliel Saarinen, the center offers an enriching cultural experience for art enthusiasts.
What a surprise on our tour through the Des Moines Area!! The family was in the area for the weekend and trying to see Des Moines and this popped up on our radar. From the outside we had no idea how much there was to see inside. I am glad we stopped. The Gift Shop was exceptional, maybe the most expensive part of our weekend, but well worth it. The art was a nice mix of local and international works, showcasing a nice eclectic mix of works. I am a sculpture guy and the rest of the family likes neat art, we were all impressed by the offerings here.

Wonderful mini-retreat in this lovely garden. Spring is slowly waiting and leaves gently unfold and blooms blossom in their own time. The rose garden is so demure in April; although, a well staged reprieve from the winter’s stagnancy. Andy Goldsworthy’s the Three Cairns keenly sits at the hill’s top. The landscape is both a photographer’s and a bird watcher’s dream.

Highly recommend visiting this art museum! It is so quiet, clean, and spacious. There are many different exhibits with unique art pieces. We spent a few hours here, but you can easily spend longer depending on how much time you take. There are different sections with floors or elevators to access. The staff are friendly and helpful. I also love and recommend checking out the gift shop inside, which includes so many fun, unique, and interesting items for anyone’s taste and style. I bought this fair trade chocolate bar and a greeting card. Overall, a great experience and I would return. Admission is free.

Loved this experience!! There are activity sheets for the youth and those of us that are less focused. I deeply appreciate the education throughout the museum. There is also a bakery/ coffee shop

The Des Moines Art Center is truly a gem. Every corner of the museum feels like an aesthetic experience, from the stunning architecture by Eliel Saarinen, I.M. Pei, and Richard Meier, to the outdoor sculptures, rose garden, and reflecting pool that surrounds the building. Admission is free, which makes it even more remarkable. We especially enjoyed the current exhibition by Firelei Báez, an incredible Dominican Republic–born artist whose work is vibrant, thought-provoking, and beautifully displayed in the main gallery. The restaurant is a highlight with delicious food, warm service, and a gorgeous view that makes it a perfect stop during a visit. The art shop is equally impressive, offering thoughtful, high-quality gifts and creative finds you won’t see in typical museum shops. The staff throughout the center are welcoming and knowledgeable, and the workshops, lectures, and film programs make this a lively hub for art and culture in the community. We highly recommend the Des Moines Art Center. whether you’re coming for the rotating exhibitions, the architecture, the restaurant, or simply the peaceful grounds, it’s an unforgettable experience.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Truly Satisfying Art Experience! *Free admission Even with the main gallery closed, my visit to the Des Moines Art Center was an absolute delight and still earned a 5-star rating from me! They have an incredible collection featuring works from lots of artists. I was completely mesmerized by one of the paintings in particular—seeing a piece from the 1800s up close was a truly satisfying and unforgettable experience. The quality and variety of art on display were fantastic. Don't let a partial closure deter you; there is still so much to see and appreciate here. I can't wait to go back once the main gallery reopens!

Principal Park, home to the Iowa Cubs, is a major sporting venue in downtown Des Moines. With a seating capacity of over 11,000, it hosts minor league baseball games and special events like concerts and fireworks shows. Situated at the meeting point of the Des Moines and Raccoon rivers, this intimate stadium offers an atmospheric experience for sports enthusiasts. As the official home of the Iowa Cubs, it's a must-visit for baseball fans during their season from April to September.
Beautifully-maintained stadium with no bad seats and plenty of Chicagoland staples like Italian Beef and Chicago Dogs (with all the Vienna Beef fixins). Options for gluten-free and allergy-friendly too. Oh and baseball! ⚾️

Great day of baseball. No bad seats in the place, but only shade in the early afternoon is upper level behind home plate or 1st base lines. Sit higher for breeze on windy days otherwise fairly stagnant and hot. Splash pad in right field for kids. Great food and beer options.

Wow, we watched the baseball game against the Omaha Storm Chasers July 3rd. The Cubs bats were a burning. A hot night, that's baseball! Everyone had a great time, four adults and five kids. What a wonderful event to have in the heart of our great state. I'd be remiss if I did not mention the fireworks display. What a extravaganza! An enjoyable venue for a reasonably priced 2.5 to 3.0 hours of entertainment. Thank you Cubbies, looking forward to a few more games this season.

A great way to spend a summer night. I’d highly recommend buying a ticket pack in the spring. The splash pad and jungle gym were lifesavers for my antsy nephew, definitely family friendly!

Been to quite a few minor league stadiums at this point, and Iowa has one of the better ones. They did a good job on stats on the pitcher being visible at all times, with hitters only slightly lesser so. Seats in the upper deck had a good view and the price was reasonable. Was nice to be able to get a pork tenderloin sandwich in a state known for it too. Still wish the Cubs let their minor league teams have their own identities, but Iowa did a good job of making it feel like their own outside of the Chicago win song at the end. Certainly better than South Bend did. Iowa has a good thing here for sure.

Dad and I went to see the I Cubs play against Omaha September 2 (12-0 W!; also a Chicago Cubs fan so love seeing both teams win). Due to a couple previous health circumstances causing him to struggle sometimes with long walking distances and preferring easier to access seats, we were looking to switch from our ticketed seats to something working to better suit that preference; hadn't been here before so wasn't aware the initial seats weren't gonna work great for that. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful to try and assist with that effort and ultimately we found an excellent spot. Combining reasonable ticket prices, great staff and easy ballpark access, worth 5 stars
Nick G — Google review
I'm not a die-hard baseball fan but I enjoy watching it live from time-to-time. It's all about the full experience, right? I've enjoyed every game I've seen here. I think it's great how they interact with the fans in the stands, all of the cool guests that are featured on occasion, the food is actually pretty decent, and yes, the fireworks at the end of the games are always spectacular! Ticket prices aren't insane and the grounds are meticulously maintained. I've even enjoyed an 18-hole miniature golf course here when they do Putt-Putt @ The Park. Great place!

We went to see Mannheim Steamroller Christmas tonight. It was amazing. We are so blessed in DSM to have our civic center. The acoustics are fabulous and the venue attracts world-class acts. Bravo Des Moines Civic Center!

Really great event location. Not a bad seat in the house. This building is used for a variety of events from Graduations to full concerts. Very well run and organized. Lots of very helpful staff. Loading docks out back are easy to get in and out of. Plenty of parking located within walking distance. Entrance is usually limited to the south side for shows. Bathrooms are clean and tidy. Seats are dated but very comfortable. Plenty of room for your knees when seated unless someone needs to get past. Very nice Venue regardless.

My hubby and I enjoyed our first visit to the Des Moines Civic Center last night to see a wonderful 50 year celebration of Air Supply. It was pouring and dark outside but inside was bright and cozy. It seemed everyone had a great seat. What I enjoyed most about the Civic Center was the staffing they had. There were many on duty and each one seemed friendly and welcoming, rolling out the red carpet of customer service. One person in particular named Susie was so kind to bring us water after we were discussing how dehydrated my husband and I were. She brought it right to our seats, which was so thoughtful. From the ticket window, to the refreshment stand and all the ushers and staff in between, it was clear that each employee was handpicked for their wonderful customer service. We felt so welcomed and truly enjoyed a night of love songs. Everyone was smiling or singing or both. It was a true house of love <3. Thank you, your efforts were very much appreciated.

Small, but very nice place to go and see plays and shows. Location is a bit awful for parking. Basically, there is no adjacent parking or underground parking. But once you are there it is fairly easy to move around.

What a treat. Kudos to team that organized the Hamilton show💯 The show was sold out and the venue was all packed but it was pretty easy to get to our seats. The acoustics of the theater are pretty good too. Looking forward to coming back for the amazing line up if shows they have coming up. Be sure to book well in advance though!!!

This is a wonderful space to experience the arts! I've seen two shows here since January and regardless of the craft everything has been enjoyable. Yes, due to the acts themselves but I believe in the way the auditorium was built as well. The building is handicap-accessible. There are multiple entry points. And the concession stand has alcohol that you can bring in to the performances so long as you purchase the $3 souvenir cup. This place is so well-organized with ushers everywhere that it's impossible to get lost.
Melinda — Google review
I absolutely love the Civic Center! I've been to multiple shows here and always have a great experience. The seating is excellent and the sound quality is consistently good. While the restrooms can have lines, they move quickly thanks to plenty of stalls. If you attend multiple shows, I highly recommend buying the souvenir cup—it’s the only cup allowed in the theater, and you can bring it back for future shows. Overall, a fantastic venue!

If I could could zero stars I would. Went to see the Hamilton show and were told to leave before our tickets were even scanned all because I had my infant with me. We walk in the door and immediately employees are pointing at me and gesturing to each other about my infant being there. We approach the employees that were scanning tickets and we get stopped and told "She (my infant) can't be here but she is cute)." One employee then proceeds to check with the manager and the manager comes to tell me the same thing and then goes on to "(the RECOMMENDED age is 5 and over. Your child must be 5 or over and have a ticket to attend the show)" She then says the same thing the first employee says "so she can't be here but she's such a cutie". I wonder if they even know or care enough to know that plenty of other parents there brought children younger than 5 and lied about their age just to buy a ticket to avoid getting a sitter or even didn't have a sitter. Mind you, my sitter lives an hour away. I also have a friend who works stage crew who has told me that there have been countless times where she has seen mothers and their INFANTS at these shows and many other shows. Will never be going back.

Very nice and elegant theater. The theater is definitely old but very well maintained. Most tickets here are pretty affordable and there’s really not a bad seat in the house. The seats are certainly older and aren’t very comfortable but overall a nice venue.

Great place for a comedy show. I saw Jeff Arcuri and he was amazing! I went by myself, and was lucky to sit next to and meet an amazing woman named Erica who was there with a friend. We vibed during the show and parted ways afterwards, creating a memory I will never forget.

Pros: Love the old historical beauty of this place. Bren there twice this year for shows. Great view of stage no matter where you sit. Cons: Because its an older building bathrooms are small. Seats do not accommodate tall or larger people. Knees were into the chair in front of me all night. Metal frame of chairs hurt to sit narrow seats.

Our second concert here. Love it! At 6'3 and 5'9 both with new knees sitting down in low rise seats is a comical sight. Other than that it's a great venue.
Susan Y — Google review
The place is stunning inside. They have to do better on the bathrooms. You'd think after all these years and all the shows and profits, they could add a couple more bathrooms. It's like a maze to find the one, no matter how many times you have been there. The worst bathroom set up I think I have seen in a place like this.

Cool to see, yet the seats are SO close together & it makes it very hard to move around. Went as I’ve wanted to see Michael W. Smith live since I was a teen! Great concert, very friendly employees, & not hard to leave like at many concert venues when it’s over. Would go again, for the right artist.

I drove from Minneapolis to see a show here and was not disappointed. The sound was great in all areas of the space. Only down side was there is no where to sit unless you buy VIP access which I noticed wasn't the best view, so ended up sitting/laying on the floor for back relief near the end of the night. The show was worth it though so no complaints here. The legendary Acid Bath performed here and I was very happy.

We saw a band here Monday, August 4 and it was awesome. What a great venue!! Plenty of room for those who wanted to sit and those who wanted to rock out in front. Great acoustics and lighting. We will definitely be back for another show!!

No complaints. Rideshare drop off was smooth, as was security entry and ticket scanning. Drinks were card only but that was to be expected. Sound was great in the back of the venue as well as on the barricade. Not always the case. Having driven over 4 hours into town for the show, I was pleasantly surprised with my experience. Even leaving was chill/quick compared to most shows I've been to elsewhere. I'd totally come back.

We’ve been to numerous concerts here and the sound is not always the best with the acoustics bouncing all around. Typically by the end of the night the sound gets better though. However this last concert we went to, the security guard shouted and made a scene that my bag was too large, even though it was the same size allowed on the signs (I checked at home). He continued to shout about the bag size until we left to drop the bag back at the car and then when we walked through again hassled my husband for his steel toe work boots. Quite a power trip for a mall cop. Otherwise, pretty decent venue and decent ticket prices.
Samantha M — Google review
We saw Paul McCartney here and had a good time. It was sort of hard to find our seats bc the signs were sort of misguiding for which direction to go and stairs to take but we got it. The line for the merch was extremely slow, so that could be improved but overall we had fun.

Had the pleasure to visit Casey's Center for the Paul McCartney concert last week. First time visit to Des Moines. Drove from the Chicago Suburbs and arrived just in time for his opening number. While I didn't get any food or drink during the three hour show, I can't speak to that other than prices seemed in line with similar venues in my area, which is pricey. The venue was very clean, staff was friendly and helpful and moved the large crowd efficiently. The traffic control team kept the cars and people moving and there was plenty of parking close by, especially when you consider it was probably the largest crowd of the year for this venue. Parking was very reasonable. Sound was great for a building designed primarily for sports. The new sound system and other improvements from the last few years were well worth the investment. I would certainlyake the trip to see another show here but unfortunately there are no other concerts listed on their calendar but will keep it on my radar. I would highly recommend a visit to see a show here of you can!

Whoa!!! This place is AMAZING!!! We were walking past this place and almost missed it. This was not a planned stop, but as we were walking past, I noticed some stained glass displayed in the windows that caught my attention. I'm so glad we stopped in. I chatted with a few friendly guys who were enjoying their coffee in the café area, but as we were chatting, my attention was drawn to all the antique and vintage items all around us. Four floors (plus the basement) packed with Americana treasures from times long forgotten. If you have any love for history, this is a must stop. You won't be disappointed.

This was a really fun visit and I am glad we stopped in during our weekend trip to Des Moines. There are multiple floors or every vintage, antique, weird, fun, and everything in between here. There is even a coffee shop (we did not get anything though). We really loved walking through here and seeing some old things that we've never came across at any vintage/antique store. You can tell that the person collecting all of this has put a ton of time and effort into bringing all of it into this building. My only complaint was the pricing on everything. In my opinion, and based on numerous other similar stores we've been to, everything was very marked up. Now, I understand most of it is valid and really is worth that, but some items were kind of outrageous. Overall, West End is a super cool store to visit and worth it even if you just window shop. I am sure we will come back and see what new stuff is here when we visit Des Moines again.

We travel from Texas to visit my wife's dad each year in Iowa and always wanted to stop here. Enjoyed watching the show on TV and wanted to see it in person. It's a very unique experience. Not at all what I expected. Floor after floor of amazing things to see. We spent the better part of the day just wandering around in here. The variety of odds and ends is pretty cool. Definitely worth a visit if you are in or around the area. I think my favorite things here were all the stained glass they had. Plus all the unique things they build.

Across the street from the Des Moines Civic Center, most people have probably walked/drove by this place while visiting Des Moines. There is a really cool structure at this park that gets lit up with different colors at night. Otherwise, it's just an open space in the middle of downtown Des Moines that sometimes get booked by political candidates while visiting Iowa during campaign season for rallies.

Nice common area downtown with plenty of benches to sit on, a gorgeous water fountain, and several bars and eateries close by. The city does a good job keeping the place clean and caring for the trees and plants there. I walk though almost everyday and it is rarely busy except once or twice a month when an event will be hosted there.

Facilities are clean and well-organized, and the staff is friendly and helpful, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Whether you're a seasoned skater or lacing up for the first time, Brenton Skating Plaza promises delightful memories and a refreshing outdoor escape.

Great place for concerts. It's an open air venue that hosts concerts rain or shine. I love the outdoors aspect of it because most concert venues get so hot from all the body heat. Here you can step away from the crowd and cool off in the nice breeze coming off the river. The acoustics are surprisingly good. The sound is consistent from front to back. I've never had any trouble finding parking. There is no parking lot here so you have to park on the street. Don't forget to bring change so you can feed the meter!
Anne M — Google review
If you are looking for something fun to do downtown, this is it. Be prepared to read/sign a waiver, and it’s pretty pricey for admission and skates. All kids have to wear skates on the ice, even if you plan to carry them.

Really cool downtown ice rink. Great place to take kids to get a little outside fresh air when visiting Des Moines in the winter. They rent skates and have a Zamboni so you will get good ice.

Fun filled cold nights! We enjoy this rink and the music friends and good times that come with! Brentons do not offer season passes anymore which is really a bummer.
Jodi H — Google review
So my oldest and his girlfriend invited us out to skate. I'm not much of an ice skater, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The entry and skate fee is reasonable The staff was super helpful and nice. The music is great. Didn't like that the concessions were sparce and that they'd run out of gloves or that the bumper rentals were so high. BUT the smile on their faces and the cool color lighting on the ice in the evening were bomb! I will return for sure!
Connie J — Google review
Our family skates a lot and we were in town for New years and thought this would be something fun for us to do. It's a cool environment with it being downtown but there's a lot they could improve on. The price was ridiculous. In Minneapolis you can skate on an outdoor rink that's bigger for $5. If you have you own skates it was free. Here it was $14 with skate rental. That's nuts. And the ice was super rough and cut up. They did clean it once but they should use tge Zamboni more often. Probably won't go again.

Nestled in the heart of downtown Des Moines, Mainframe Studios stands as a vibrant hub for creativity and artistic expression. Visitors can immerse themselves in a dynamic atmosphere filled with art by attending events like the popular First Friday open studios, where themed programming showcases local talent.
This is a several floor artist collaborative building with scores of individual artist studios. It's a great stop to take a visitor during a tour of Des Moines, or an activity for yourself on an afternoon. Sometimes there events here. I went to an open house once where many of the artists opened their shops so you could meat the artists and see their studio - and there was music, food...etc in the common areas. But I've also gone during the day when none of the shops are open, but you can still tour all the floors and see much of the art that is exhibited in the hallways.

Amphitheater
Lauridsen Amphitheater at Water Works Park is a popular concert venue with a diverse range of performances. While some visitors have experienced challenges with parking and payment methods, the overall experience at the park and amphitheater is highly praised. The venue has hosted various events, including concerts by renowned artists like Willie Nelson, as well as festivals such as the brew fest. Despite some concerns about parking logistics, attendees appreciate the atmosphere and amenities provided during events.
We live downtown so we usually take the greenways and walk here or we'll Über. There's plenty of parking on the grounds though I hear they charge sometimes for the bigger ticket events. The area in front of the stage is pretty open and spacious. I recommend bringing lawn chairs or a blanket. We usually just stand because we like to dance. The acoustics are surprisingly good even though we're outside. And then there's the food trucks that come for the concerts. I love that you can grab a bite and still enjoy the show!
Melinda — Google review
Went here for a Whiskey Meyers concert. The venue is nicely laid out and manicured. Nice that there are water fountains to fill bottles. My only suggestion would be to reconfigure the amount of port o pots to facilitate spectators. It's disheartening to pay good money to see an artist, only to spend a decent portion of the experience waiting for an empty toilet. Also, I would suggest that there be a few more alcohol vendors to support crowds as well.
Jennifer D — Google review
ADA experience... Whiskey Myers' performance was a 5/5. It was a beautiful night, and the outdoor feel was fantastic. Most of the event staff was great as well, until it came to the security/Bully-ish seating staff that had No clue as to professionalism nor how to read a seating chart. :( I recently had a knee replacement. So, I try to purchase ADA seating whenever possible. It gives me more leg room and helps me to avoid uncomfortable seating situations or being crammed into the standard seats and then having knee problems for days after a show. We provided our ADA seating info. And... they (staff) had no clue where we were to be seated. One of the gate attendants assigned to our area of assigned seating instructs us to put our chairs in the grass to the left of the stage. (Glad we brought our own chairs, we paid for ADA seating, and it states chairs are provided but none where provided or available) My wife and I sat off to the side and couldn't have been happier! And then all a sudden, Ms. Suzy Security comes over and tells my wife and I we have to move off to the side of the assigned seating area and in an area where we no longer can see the stage! She even made a big scene in front of everyone, acting like we were the ones being unruly. By then, my wife just wanted to avoid conflict and would have sat anywhere, and I had become extremely annoyed and upset and may have been slightly unruly:) So I asked Suzi-security to show us Exactly where our assigned ADA seating was? And again, she had no clue and couldn't provide our assigned seats! She then informed me to either sit off to the side or "she could make us sit all the way in the back behind everyone else." I decided to drop it, and we went about our night. It was a great show, but this whole ADA seating experience just doesn't sit well with me. My bottom line is that I paid extra for these seats and feel like we were punished because they were unorganized. Last time I checked, if I pay for assigned seating, it should be provided, and if you can't provide it, a reasonable accommodation should be met. Otherwise, do not sell tickets for seats you are not able to provide... Just my opinion. Again, it was a great show. But the experience was less than enjoyable!

We attended the Beck and Des Moines Symphony Orchestra concert on 07/24/2025. Positives: All the staff were helpful and very nice. The campus is beautiful. Parking was easy and close. The vendor choices for drinks and food were very good. All the vendors we interacted with were friendly and super nice as well as a really good choice of foods and beverages. The sound was okay ( we were in the 4 th row). Negatives: The orchestra pit chair rows were extremely close together and without sounding dramatic, nearly dangerous for people to navigate due to how close the rows were. (Difficult navigation to get up and out and back to use the bathroom, people using canes, etc.). Also, at the center of the campus in front of the amphitheater, the grass was too long and should have been cut shorter for people to foot travel to and from. Also, picnic tables or tables and chairs for people to sit and eat or have a refreshment between the food trucks and amphitheater would have provided some comfort to attendees. When we left the concert, we think the vendors threw their ice and water out on the lawn, so walking around to the porta potties or back and forth, I was literally walking on some muddy water. (it had not rained.).

I have attended 3 major concerts here over the past 2 years. I purchased reserved seating for 2. This last one, Beck, I decided to save $ and buy lawn tickets for my family & me. We got there early to be as far front in the lawn as allowed--security informed us that was as far front as we were permitted. Spectators/audience were not allowed to be on the wide concrete walkway between the lawn and the reserved seating to watch the concert. (Made sense) However, not long after Beck started, people from back on the lawn began congregating on the concrete. This continued through the concert creating a wall several feet deep of people standing in front of the people on the lawn. The security people who told us in the beginning no spectators on the walkway, did nothing. It greatly diminished the enjoyment of the event. I have since learned this has happened before. Overall, this is not a good venue for large shows. Having an "amphitheater" on flatland doesn't work. The traffic before & after shows is a nightmare, and the parking situation is not good.
Annie L — Google review
Terrible venue. I have been to many concerts and venues and this was by far the worst experience. Traffic was a nightmare. Paid $20 for “reserved premium parking” that was supposed to guarantee a parking spot. But they closed it right as we got there because it was full LOL. Many others had the same experience so it sounds like they oversell parking spots to make money and don’t care that they screw people over. So we drove around/waited in traffic for 2 hours trying to get to other parking. We barely made it to the main act before it started. And don’t waste money on reserved seating, you can’t see anything at all unless you’re the first row.

me and my friend came here one week ago today to get full acrylic sets. we did not schedule appointments but we called before and when we showed up, we were the only ones there besides a couple in the back getting pedicures. the entire time we were there no one else showed up besides one more to get a pedicure and for some reason it was still very rushed. both me and my friend have nails that are not correctly fit to our nail beds. the shaping is good, but they were aggressive with the filing. my nail art seemed to be done with little effort or care, and then the nail artist was caught off guard when i asked her to re-do a small part. my friends nails(first two pictures) are very chipped and lifting and it has only been a week. i was unsatisfied with my nail art and filed it off a few days after getting them done, and on top of that, one had already snapped off with little pressure. do not recommend if you are attentive to how your nails look

Got acrylic nails and they charged me at outrageous amount of money for just the acrylic seems a little pricey to me 😠 they were cracks in my nails and so much more. I don’t even wanna explain it. The nail they even gave me on my acrylic didn’t even fit my fingernail. It was like they were trying to rush me out of the store or something. Do not recommend they also take advantage of younger girls they say on the phone 38 but it’s really $60 and they say they charge you for extra long nails but it really wasn’t even that long like I said before do not come 😠

This was the first set since everything opened back up from COVID. They were a very clean place and had a pleasant staff. A group of friend and I went in to all get a full set. We showed them inspiration pictures and they asked clarifying questions and went with it. All of our nails look amazing and we will for sure continue going here. 10/10 recommend

Got acrylics and I wish I would’ve taken a picture bc they were so bad. The shape was very bad, almost like duck nails (i asked for square), they were not smooth and very uneven. i picked a pink color and i think they started painting them with that color but then did a different pink on the last layer bc they were 2 different colors. one nail was very crooked. And the design was horrible. it was just some squiggly lines and they were extremely sloppy. i didn’t notice how bad they were until we left and people were pointing it out that they looked sloppy. I drilled them off as soon as i got home because i was embarrassed that i even walked out of the building like that. $60 for nothing.

I came here for the first time a couple days ago and was very disappointed with what I left with. I believe it was $60 which is fine if I liked my nails. Very uneven, messy, rushed. When I brought my concerns up he said “no, it’s fine” ... do not recommend.

The Iowa Craft Beer Tent is a must-visit for beer enthusiasts at the Iowa State Fair. With a wide variety of locally brewed beverages, visitors can enjoy live music and a pleasant atmosphere. Despite being crowded at times, the tent offers an extensive selection of beers and ciders, making it a popular stop for fairgoers. Additionally, those interested in exploring local breweries can opt for an Iowa Brew Tour in cities like Des Moines, Iowa City, or Cedar Rapids.
My sister, cousin & I LOVE seeing your locations & stopping during RAGBRAI LI. Scenic & picturesque, with plenty of shade! Of course, there were so Many flavors of beer & cider! We always look forward to making time to stop :-)

So for some reason this year at the fair: 2025, all the selections seem to be candy-flavored beer. Cotton candy, mango raspberry / lemonade etc. I really like beer. I've liked it since I was 13. I don't want a fruity or gimmicky beer. When I go for a craft beer I want either a good IPA maybe a twist on local stout or a full-bodied ale maybe a smooth summer lager. As for the Beer Tent self itself, it's pretty loud in there. The combination of piped in music, and people partying. it's definitely a party atmosphere.
Randy W — Google review
Came here during opening weekend of the fair. They were blasting music to the point where it was difficult to order a drink. Sample sizes aren’t available for every drink offered and there wasn’t enough seating. We’ve had good experiences here in the past but we’re really disappointed this year.
Emily W — Google review
Craft beer tent was a major disappointment this year. They were consistently sold out of all the "fair" beers. I was told at the bar that the beer supplier brings kegs in the morning and they sell out of the special beers very quickly each day. So why not deliver more of the most popular kinds throughout the day? Seems silly to miss out on all that revenue. Our party of 8 adults didn't stay long due to lack of supply.
Is H — Google review
They always have a huge selection of craft beer and are one of the best values at the Iowa State Fair. For those in the know, you can get 12 "tasters", which is about 3 "flights" for $30. $10 a flight is about what a brewery charges.

The River Center is a stunning venue that beautifully blends modern industrial design with rustic charm. With its exposed brick walls, soaring ceilings, and expansive windows that let in an abundance of natural light, it creates an inviting atmosphere for any event. Accommodating up to 450 guests, this versatile space features various areas including patios and mezzanines, making it perfect for both grand celebrations and intimate gatherings.
We got married here about a year ago and realized I never left a review when I was planning on it to let everyone interest know the truth! The River Center AMAZING and is a beautiful event space. They worked with us 100% to ensure we got the day we wanted and did not try to push additional costs onto us. When we first contacted them we had a difficult time contacting a person to work with or to even get them to answer the phone or call back. Once Paige was hired to work with us, she was always available and seemed like she was truly interested in actually working with us as a friend. When we were discussing details, food, etc. she let us know how much we would need based on guest size and what items they could provide for free vs purchasing or renting at a cost. She is the absolute best coordinator on site. Our guest still talk about how awesome the staff, bartenders, food, appetizers and space was to this day making me feel great that we chose this location. We chose fish and chicken as our dinner options and I am a big foodie and worried about the chicken being dry at weddings, the food was 100% the best food I've had at a wedding. Since i was behind the scenes i saw how they plated everything and it was not pre plated or sitting in warmers, the food came out and they plated all 150 guests within 20 minutes. We had a guest who has severe food allergies and was served the wrong dish, i caught it while mingling and brought it to their attention, they fixed it on the spot and I was able to get her what she wanted. That service is A+ to me. No issue, no argument just understanding and compassion. All vendors that day did an phenomenal job and we felt they went above and beyond! Thank you, I have included a few photos of the space to see how we decorated.

My fiancée and I had our wedding ceremony and reception at the River Center, and we loved it! We worked with Sophia Millang to plan our event. Sophia was professional, kind, and always helpful. The food, beverages, and desserts catered through the River Center (via Trellis Catering & Doré Bakery) were fantastic, and we got a ton of compliments on our food. All the staff at the River Center were excellent, including wait staff and bartenders. Thank you River Center for hosting our special day!

Beautiful venue. I attended a wedding on June 27th and the bartender (I hope I remember his name correctly) Lucas was an absolute gem!! He would see me walking up and ask if I wanted the same thing (gin and Tonic)! He was a very fast and efficient server! I wholeheartedly appreciate the service!!!! I want to give a shout out to the event-manager as well, he was running around making sure everyone was enjoying their meal and making sure everything was timed correctly which I greatly appreciate !

We chose the River Center and Doré Bakery for our wedding at the Des Moines Botanical Garden. Paige was wonderful to work with and did such an amazing job organizing and helping us decide what to go with! All the food we tried was stellar, and the cake magnificent! Anything you go with is a winner here. We went with an almond cake with berry compote filling and vanilla butter creme, everyone at our wedding couldn’t get enough of it. The wine choice they also had at the bar was a huge hit, thank you again so much for making our day perfect and delightful! 😊🍷💍

VENU: I absolutely love the new side of the River Center. I honestly think it is the most stunning venue in DSM. However, there were some communication issues with staff throughout the entire planning process. Obviously, if you have an event in this space it will always look gorgeous but I would recommend being very specific and stay vigilant and very clear in communications throughout the planning process. FOOD: We got so many compliments on our wedding food. The Chef is amazing and our guests could not stop raving about our options (red wine braised short ribs and chicken marsala).
Mollie S — Google review
The event space is beautiful, but the process at the bar needs to be address. The last event I attended, they only had one bar open, which was fine. But they had three bartenders and only one other person taking payments, which slowed the service down and caused unnecessary back up of patrons.

As a wedding photographer, I always love getting to work at the River Center. It's gorgeous and I've always had lovely interactions with the staff during events! Would super recommend for anyone looking to get married in downtown DSM.
Kyndal G — Google review
My husband and I had our wedding reception at the River Center in September, and we had an absolutely outstanding experience. Tiffany was a pleasure to work with throughout the entire planning process, and the reception itself was fantastic. The food was incredibly delicious - our guests raved about the food for months afterwards. We had a beef carving station, fingerling potatoes, green beans, a salad with a champagne vinaigrette, and rolls, for anyone wanting specifics. Additionally, the service from every single employee was truly above and beyond. They were all friendly and extremely helpful! One server even brought me a whole personal plate of the appetizer (some sort of pear and brie bite) when I asked if there were any left over, and they always made sure we had something to drink. The owner even introduced himself, brought us champagne, and offered to get us anything we needed. I hardly ever write reviews, but our experience with the River Center was so phenomenal that we can't rave about it enough, even months later. They made it such a breeze for my husband and I and both our families, so that night none of us had to worry about a thing. If you're looking for a reliable, professional, unique, and beautiful venue in Des Moines, this is it!

The Greek Orthodox Church of St. George in Des Moines, Iowa, hosts an annual Greek Food Fair that has grown from a small church parking lot event to a bustling street fair. The fair offers traditional Greek delicacies like baklava and gyros, as well as lesser-known treats such as Loukaniko (pork sausage) and tiropita (feta wrapped in phyllo dough).
I visited this church a couple of times when I was younger, but as an adult, I recently went and was able to grasp the magnitude, beauty, and significance this church holds. Everyone I spoke with was very welcoming, and kindhearted and had strong values in faith. The bottom portion of the church is where the kitchen and dining area are located. The dining area was very large and was a great spot to accommodate large gatherings for events and special occasions. The location is perfect, with beautiful homes surrounding the church, and their free parking lot wraps around the backside of the building. I would recommend anyone to visit this church!

The priest there is a kind and approachable man and deeply cares for his parish. The parish itself is very kind and God seeking. The church is beautiful with Eastern Orthodox decorative art, and has been the best display of true Christianity I have ever seen. Their liturgy, the divine liturgy, is beautifully executed every time, very lively. You will learn a lot about not just the faith but also about yourself here. They speak English primarily I say maybe 60/40 English Greek ratio

My first time visiting that church was beautiful, the priest there is a kind man. God bless him and everyone who sees this.

The best church and the most beautiful servants, in the image and likeness of Christ. They are good, pious, and pure-hearted people. The priest, the pastor of the church, is one of the simplest people I have dealt with. May God bless his life, his ministry, his family, and his wife. She is a good and pious woman. I love them very much. ♥️♥️ I feel psychological comfort in this place. May God bless all the members of the church.

Nestled in the picturesque suburb of Norwalk, Carper Vineyard and Winery is a stunning venue that perfectly blends rustic charm with modern elegance. Ideal for couples seeking a country wedding, it boasts an enchanting outdoor ceremony space overlooking a serene pond and expansive indoor facilities spread across two floors to accommodate larger gatherings. The thoughtful layout enhances the overall experience, making it easy to customize your event's ambiance.
WOW!!!🤩 I was visiting this gorgeous facility as a vendor this weekend. I helped my bestie’s decor company set up a wedding. 1) the venue is breathtaking from the view, location, thoughtful layout and extra touched. 2) clean, modern yet still the country barn feel but can dress up as much or little as you want. 4) AMAZING staff! It takes a lot to set linens, center pieces decorations on a pergola, etc. So not only where they easy to work with for us, the interactions with bridal party fantastic tooo. Professional, pleasant, respectful and knowledgeable. I just can’t say enough great things about the experience. Highly recommend for what ever your event is. I have very few pictures so it does not do it justice.

Highly recommend!! Carper Vineyard & Winery is an absolute dream. We fell in love with this venue the moment we set foot to tour it. The owner Tracy Carper is amazing to work with and truly made the whole wedding planning process very simple and smooth. We can't thank her enough for all she did for us. The service was impeccable through out and the day of our wedding as well. The bridal and groom suites were also perfect for us to get ready in. It was a perfect venue for the perfect day.
Shelby S — Google review
We held our wedding rehearsal, wedding ceremony, and dinner/reception at Carper in May 2018, and it was the best decision we could have made! After touring, we loved it so much we actually pulled out of our other venue (and lost our deposit) because we loved Carper so much, and it did not disappoint! We have received so many compliments the last three months, and I cannot imagine what the day would have been like if we would have been anywhere else. Tracy is fantastic to work with and has so many great ideas, she can truly make any vision come to life. Plenty of space both indoor and outdoor, fully stocked bar, beautiful bridal suite, and breathtaking views. I wish we could relive this day all over again!! (Photos taken by the amazing Anna Jones)

Complete Weddings + Events Des Moines loves working at Carper Winery! Tracy and her team are AWESOME! Talk about a well-oiled machine, and friendly faces willing to jump in and help at every turn! A great venue, with lots of space to celebrate, stellar views, and amazing areas (like the pond and willow tree!) for incredible photos! If you haven't been out to Carper Winery yet, add them to your tour list!

We can not recommend Carper enough for everything they did for us during planning and day of. Tracy is phenomenal to work with and our day was beautiful. So many guests complimented us on the venue, but all compliments should go to Tracy and her team!

I am truly fortunate that we found Carper Winery! From the day we met Tracy to the day we said "I Do," everything seemed to go so smoothly. We loved absolutely everything about the venue from the ceremony site, to the lakes and vineyard, to the lighting, to the bride and grooms suites and so much more .... everything was well thought out! Thank you, Carper Winery for everything!

Attended #winedownwednesday this week @ Carper Vineyard in Norwalk, Ia. The venue was beautiful! The trucks and bar were flowing with patrons due to the great quality of service, food, and drinks!! Every direction you look is filled with breathtaking scenery!!! I could go on… instead, check it out for yourself!!! Whether it be for the weekly Wednesday festivities or by booking your own event!!! I’m pretty sure you won’t regret it😉

This place was amazing. Great super friendly service. Beautiful views. I would highly recommend visiting this place for it's events or any personal event. I only gave four stars because it is labeled as a winery/vineyard, but does not produce it's own wine brand. I would still gladly visit here again and again though.

Corporate office
The Krause Gateway Center is a stunning modern building located in downtown Des Moines, near the Western Gateway Park. Designed by Renzo Piano Workshop, this architectural marvel overlooks the 4.4-acre John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park, creating a seamless blend of urban sophistication and natural beauty. The airy and open design of the building offers breathtaking views of the surrounding park, while housing an art gallery on its second floor that showcases contemporary art in ample space with abundant natural light.
The glass architecture building overlooking the sculpture park is a breathtaking structure that seamlessly blends modernity and elegance. From the moment you step into the building, you are enveloped by its airy and open design, and the stunning views of the park outside. The art gallery on the second floor is a showcase of contemporary art, with ample space and natural light to highlight each piece. The glass walls provide a unique backdrop for the artworks, allowing visitors to appreciate the art in the context of the surrounding natural beauty. The restaurant on the first floor is equally impressive, with sleek furnishings and an atmosphere of understated sophistication. The glass windows offer diners an unparalleled view of the sculpture park, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy a meal while taking in the stunning scenery. One of the most impressive aspects of this building is how it embraces its surroundings. The glass walls on all floors provide an unobstructed view of the park, while the minimalist design of the building allows it to blend seamlessly with the landscape. The overall effect is one of harmony between the built environment and the natural world. In conclusion, the glass architecture building with an art gallery and a restaurant is a masterpiece of modern design. Its ability to seamlessly integrate with the surrounding environment while offering breathtaking views and exceptional experiences for visitors is a testament to the ingenuity of its creators. If you are looking for an unforgettable experience, this building should be at the top of your list.

A new, fantastic looking building in downtown Des Moines. It opened in the Fall of 2018 and the modern design near Western Gateway Park quite frankly couldn't have turned out any better! My sister worked here and was lucky to be able to call this place home. Check it out!
Josh E — Google review
This building is a monument to everything wrong with Des Moines’ downtown redevelopment. Kyle Krause sold off a long-time Iowa company (Kum & Go) for billions, leaving 500 corporate employees in the lurch, and what do we get in return? A flashy, empty headquarters that’s become nothing more than a tax break trophy. He’s taken millions in state and county funds for vanity projects like a failed soccer stadium and still managed to gut the local economy. The Krause Gateway Center was supposed to be a crown jewel—what we got is a hollow glass box with no jobs, no tenants, and no real future. In just two years, Maverik eliminated every last corporate position in Des Moines. 500 jobs—gone. The promise of revitalization? Broken. Instead, the Western Gateway area is now a wasteland of boarded-up storefronts and abandoned projects while this “architectural gem” sits mostly empty.

Visiting Des Moines for the first time on 10/07-12/21, I was quite pleasantly surprised to find the extraordinary Krause Gateway Center. As well to learn of admirable legacy of the Krause family. Thank you
