Truly someone who cares about making each customer's experience special. I needed a heart-shaped birthday cake, and she went above and beyond to make it happen without hesitation. Not only was the cake beautiful, it was absolutely delicious too! The entire staff reflects that same welcoming spirit. Everyone is friendly, attentive, and clearly takes pride in their work. It's rare to find a place where you feel so appreciated and taken care of. I will definitely be coming back for every special occasion, and any day I just need a little extra sweetness!

Incredible vegan birthday cake. I had ordered a cake for my friend's birthday with the help of Taylor. I didn't know exactly which options to pick for what, but they were very helpful and helped me pick out decorations and size. The cake ended up being incredibly beautiful and tasted amazing. It was a black and sparkly cake, with bats on the side and a coffin on top for the "over the hill" vibe my friend wanted. Amazing job.

Our wedding cake from Crème was absolutely perfect! Not only was it beautifully made and exactly what we envisioned, but it also tasted incredible. We went with a two-tiered cake, and both flavors were a huge hit—our guests couldn’t stop talking about how good it was! Sammy at Crème was so easy to work with throughout the entire process. We ordered a champagne cake from The Bake Shoppe for my mom’s 60th birthday, and it was absolutely incredible! Not only was the cake delicious—light, flavorful, and perfectly balanced—but the decoration was beyond our expectations. We had given them a picture of the tablecloth we were using for the party, and they matched the design perfectly. It tied everything together beautifully and made the whole setup feel extra special. I ordered cupcakes and cookies for my daughter's Baby shower. I came in and gave the color scheme when I placed the order. They did a pretty good job on the match up although one of the colors was more purple than blue. I cookies were cute except the ones with the bear on them. I didn't get a close up picture but the bears looked a little strange The taste is always phenomenal

My husband ordered me my 30th birthday cake. The cake was very delicious however the very detailed instructions were not followed. He asked for a cake that had “chapter 30” to fit with a book birthday theme and he asked for it to be purple. The flavoring was also not what he asked for. It was supposed to be vanilla with strawberry filling and it was a strawberry cake with vanilla filling. So if you are going to order from here double check to make sure they follow directions.

Took a little road trip to Des Moines and found this little gem of a bakery yesterday. Just a little out of the way place that was worth finding. Oh man. If you get nothing else, you have to get the Petit Fours. Crazy good! So good that you don't want to stop!😆 I loved the Champagne cake, too. I didn't think to take the picture when it looked untouched and beautiful, so you get a picture of it mid-devour😂 I also really liked a mini chocolate pie that I got. So good! I will definitely be back and I will be ordering all of these same items to pick up when I'm in Des Moines. Already looking forward to it!

My parents would get me a champagne cake from here every year! Unfortunately I have moved out of the state but my parents are still in town. my mom turned 50 this year and I ordered her a champagne cake from here with a vintage style theme! She loved it, the cake was delicious as always, ordering was super easy and the staff was super helpful with everything and the cake was Beautiful !

What an amazing spot. The monkey bread was amazing. Super crisp but still extremely soft with the perfect balance of textures. I really loved the caramel bottom that added an incredible toffee like texture. I also really loved the blueberry pinwheel. Amazing layers and the filling was perfectly balanced in sweetness. The coffee was perfect. I got the honey bee and it was everything I hoped it would be. Normally I have to add more espresso to make it less sugary but this was perfect as is. Still had that bold flavor I love. The staff was nice and got everything out to us quickly. I left a tip and made sure to let them know how great the experience was. I highly recommend this place. Truly a gem in the Des Moines area.

Scenic Route Bakery is one of, if not, THE BEST bakeries in Des Moines. Their pastries were flaky with a good crunch and their fillings were flavorful but not diminishing of the wonderful pastry they were presented within. Additionally, if you have a nice home cooked dinner ahead of you, the buttermilk buns are spectacular and I would highly recommend buying a pack or two. Finally, the setting and staff are extremely friendly and willing to answer any and all questions you may have about their process.

Loved it! Went to check it out before a business meeting coming up. Very nice! Appreciate the in and outdoor seating options. Also appreciate the industrial mixed vibe. I had a chocolate pinwheel which was drool worthy. So fresh, so tasty, so flaky, so chocolaty! Also had a diet coke cause I am not much for coffee. They had a great selection of pastries and coffee and sandwiches and more. Order at the counter and find your own seat. I sat outside since it was gorgeous. Can see the capital right around the corner. Open Monday- Saturday, closed Sunday. I think my total was $8 or something. I wasn't paying attention when paying! Too much to look at. In the heart of the East Village so plenty of other things to do nearby as well.

SUCH a gem! Went here unsuspectingly not knowing I was gonna have a life altering experience. Type of food that has you holding back a moan. The brown sugar Cuban was DELIGHTFUL. A seamless blend of what coffee should be and indulgence. The perfect muse to my chocolate almond croissant. Speaking of, I usually don’t cave to croissants. I’m a snob with no credibility, but I find most croissants to be lackluster. I only caved because I’ve been starved from the joys of almond pastries. This croissant is the ONLY exception to my hatred. Feathered layers of heaven swaddling chocolate and almond essence. The type of pastry you’d see in an anime. Love this place :) go if you can!

I can not say enough good about this place. Always so friendly and the food is top-notch. Vegan and vegetarian options. The patio is nice to enjoy a coffee on. You have to try their rosemary lemonade.

Ordered their Iced Chai Latte and let me say it was absolutely delish. I love that it’s in walking distance from where I work and the staff are friendly as well; I recommend this spot a 10 just cause it’s also a good place to just sit and relax maybe catch up on some work or just enjoy the day on their outdoor patio.

Thistle's Summit has the absolute BEST gluten-free baked goods. Even if you don't need to eat gluten-free or vegan, TREAT YOURSELF! Oatmeal Cream Pies, Frosted Mall Cookies, Snickerdoodles, Double Almond Cookies...they're simply DIVINE! Fantastic bakery, amazing people. Truly the best all around.

Got some chocolate cupcakes for my daughters birthday to accommodate some dietary needs of our guests. They looked wonderful! Pickup and ordering was easy and smooth. Our guests that tasted them said they were great! We sent the rest home to friends who couldn't make it so we didn't get to try them ourselves unfortunately. Will be coming back for more desserts any time we host a small party; I love that this bakery offers gluten free dairy free desserts so that we can offer inclusive treats for our friends!

I've eaten an unhealthy amount of cheap grocery store-purchased oatmeal creme pies over the years, and now I will never be able to enjoy one again. Thistle's Summit has ruined them for me... in a good way! The Thistle's Summit version is perfect, and I've been craving another one every day. I also tried a pumpkin whoopie pie, which was quite flavorful. The shop is charming and friendly, as well. I'm not vegan and have been pretty underwhelmed when trying vegan baked goods from other places in the past, but these were wonderful. I will definitely return!

I like everything here, the owners/ staff interactions, vegan packaged food options & vintage ops upstairs- so fun! The only suggestion I’d LOVE to support (by the dozen) would be to offer a variety of filled vegan donuts🖤 (Boston cream, marshmallow, pudding, jam, whipped cream filled.. just to shake up some of the typical options). If you’re looking for more paid help to do this.. put the word out ✊

I'm not vegan, nor am I gluten free, but I've continuously visited Thistle's Summit weekly for the last couple of months. Their Oatmeal Cream Pies have made me a true fan of Thistle's Summit and although I've kept a good stock in my freezer, I find myself always willing to try other items at the shop. The peanut butter and jelly tarts are KILLER and I have also been loving the pumpkin bars. The shop is so cute and welcoming and weekly quick chats with Marti and Ash are so lovely. You also have to go upstairs and visit their apothecary for their gorgeous selection of candles. I will say vegan and gluten free baked goods are completely different from what we all normally think of when we want baked goods but they're totally worth a try! I have brought my family and friends visiting Des Moines to Thistle's Summit and they all have been begging me to send them Oatmeal Cream Pies!

This bakery is vegan and gluten free, and everything I've had from here is absolutely amazing! The people working are always warm and welcoming as well, definitely recommend:) and don't forget to check out the antiques upstairs!

I’ve ordered a bunch of different gluten free items from Thistle’s Summit at Christmas & Easter, (lemon blackberry tart, carrot cake, mint chocolate tart, gingerbread cookies, etc…) But hands down the best is the OCP (oatmeal cream pie). I buy by the dozen because they freeze so well. I have celiac and it’s nice to have good quality dessert options. Very excited for them to have a store front so I don’t have to track down all of the coffee shops that stock them!! Truly a 5 star gluten free bakery!!

This place has received rave reviews from everyone I asked so I figured I'd take the chance. While I have no complaints about the food, I felt it was a little overhyped. The puff was less of a pastry and more so had the texture of a dinner roll. While the filling on the croissants was good, it was unlike any other I had had, in a bad way, texture- wise. The salmon tartine was pretty good, but again, nothing special and at times was overpowered by the sprout greens. Overall, the food was fine but nothing special and I would probably try to find a new place before returning here.

Stopped by hoping to find some french treats and boy were we pleasantly surprised! So many delicious choices and amazingly reasonable prices. The staff was friendly, efficient and helpful Will be back to dine in for sure!

Macarons were a little dry but were perfectly made and had excellent flavors. The croissants are delicious. Nothing is overly sweet and all very well made. Service was fast and everyone was kind. We will definitely be back.

My husband and I went for the first time and loved it! We ordered an assortment of pastries (Fruit Tart, Key Lime Pie Tart, Espresso Brownie, Chocolate Croissant, and Lemon Croissant), as well as the to-go sandwiches. I had the turkey sandwich and would definitely order it again. Everything was made fresh and was so delicious. The sandwiches were made of high quality ingredients and had great flavor. There are so many menu items to choose from. I will be back to try more! Highly recommend!

La Mie is one of my fav breakfast spots in Des Moines! It’s always busy and sometimes it’s hard to find seating, but that is just a testament to their popularity! The staff does a great job at cleaning and turning over tables. On this occasion I enjoyed the southwest scramble and turmeric latter. I always get pastries on my way out because they’re huge and great for sharing :)

All I wanted for my birthday was a Mr. Breakfast cake from Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. I was blown away by how perfect it ended up being! ChaCha’s went above and beyond. Not only did the cake look amazing, but the flavor (salted caramel and espresso) was in no way compromised. My favorite cake I have ever had, hands down! They made me one happy gal this year!

Hiland Bakery deserves all the positive reviews it has earned - they have some unique and impressive pastries. They didn't have any today, but I am partial to their chocolate-filled donuts. It's rare to find those at any bakery. I like their merch and their coffee, but I'll always enjoy their donuts and cupcakes most. I like that this is a family-owned business, and customer service is always top notch.

I run a networking group in Des Moines and last night we held our event at ChaCha's Hiland Bakery. Not only are the owners awesome people, but they have a tasty selection of baked goods, cocktails, and more. I highly recommend stopping by ChaCha's if you haven't before. What an awesome place!

One of my favorite shops in Highland Park!! I have ordered custom cakes and cookies from them, and every time I am blown away by their skill. The cookies they made for my bridal shower were absolutely perfect and had guests begging to know where they were from! The bakery itself is so cozy and the perfect place to just relax with a coffee and pastry.

My daughter had a very specific ask for her 4th birthday: A rainbow heart cake With sprinkles Tastes like chocolate and cheesecake And gosh dang that’s what she got! ChaCha's Hiland Bakery knocked it out of the park. I did not give very much notice for a custom cake, and it was still perfect. The TASTE? Oh dear holy lord.

This bakery is not trying to be cool; it is cool. It's not a fad; it's a staple. NOTE: sometimes the bakery is bursting with customers, but the busyness comes in waves. If the line seems too long, go on a walk around the business district and come back in 10 minutes. Get a coffee and something sweet or savory at a reasonable price.

This place is outstanding. -The food is incredible and cooked to perfection, the ingredients used are of high quality. -The chef is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, and you will meet him if he is not busy. He came out to greet the guests table-by-table after all of our meals were delivered. -The staff is very kind and prompt. This might be my new favorite restaurant in Des Moines. This place truly deserves more recognition.

A positively great find! Courteous and helpful waiter. Excellent food! Had the special cheese stuffed German sausage on pretzel bun with sauerkraut and potato salad. Excellent! My son had the ham and cheese spaetzle. Also excellent. We took home a large box of pastries for the family. They were gone in about 3 hours! We will be back often!

The food here was excellent, and the server very nice. The kitchen burned my food and so it took longer while they rebooked my order, but they did this whlithout me asking; they saw that the dish was bad and let me know, which I appreciated. There was definitely enough food as well. Both my wife and I left stuffed. They even gave us a free pastry to make up for the food delay, which we later ate and it was also fantastic. I would definitely recommend them for breakfast, and if their other meals are as good then I would recommend then for those also.

On a whim I decided I wanted to go somewhere different for my birthday and landed on The Strudl Haus. The food was delicious. We had a little bit of everything off the menu, the meat and cheese board, rainbow trout, veal schnitzel, chicken cordon blue and a verity of baked goods. All of it was wonderful. The only downside is the space. There is one long but narrow dinning area inside. They do have a patio but obviously that is not in use in the winter. The tables are very close to each other. If you are a larger person like I am, it is a tight fit. We will totally go back, the food is so worth it, but now I know we have to be ready to play people Tetris to get seated or out. Also, I would recommend getting reservations, so you know you will have a table. They use the OpenTable app so it is super easy.

Went to try after seeing on IG that on the 1st day of summer, you'd get free ice cream. I was very surprised at how good the ice cream was, cookies n dream, very creamy and not too sweet. They don't have a lot of flavors to choose from but the ones they had all looked good. The cookies, matcha, m&m and confetti,were so yummy!! The matcha was my favorite and it was so good, especially warm. Would definitely recommend this place.

This is a depressing establishment. The storefront and employee were less than inviting. The employee was in a sour mood and even left me when I was in the process of ordering to answer her personal phone. I was in the mood for a cookie and some ice cream so I ordered anyway...the cookie was just ok, but the salted caramel ice cream was really good.

These cookies were delicious! And a nice size. Grabbed a chocolate chunk and a birthday cake. Both cookies were crunchy. Total came to $4.xx The chocolate chunk was the best one. Crunchy on the outside soft in the middle. Very similar to a tollhouse cookie. Couldn't even tell it was vegan! They offer ice cream, brownies, and bottled drinks. (No vegan or plant based ice cream or brownies) Can customize cookie sandwiches with ice cream or icing. So many box and bucket packages to choose from or can buy a single cookie. Customer service was nice. Shop was extremely small. Only room to fit 4 customers comfortably. And there is only one door to come in and go out. No seating space. That's too bad cuz it would have been awesome to have a sit down spot and enjoy cookies and coffee in a comfy cafe. This shop was more a take out shop. I recommend Insomnia Cookie! I think they're a perfect dessert spot in the Court Ave district. Grab dinner around and walk over to Insomnia Cookie.

I was craving something sweet after dinner with some friends so we stopped here for a cookie topped with ice cream. The cookie was too sweet for my taste and the ice cream had freezer burn. I asked for the least sugary cookie because my sweet tooth is pretty much non-existent. But YES, I wanted a sweet that night. It did the job, but if you want cookies and ice cream that are actually good...make the drive to Crumbl.

I stopped here for a celebratory cookie after grocery shopping and I wasn't disappointed. Their menu is straightforward, they offer over a dozen varieties of cookie, many different ice creams, and toppings to go with it. Cookies are separated into simple or deluxe. Simple cookies are smaller, and the deluxe cook is usually have an extra ingredient and are about twice the size. I bought a 4+4 for 20$ and so far the oatmeal chocolate walnut and chocolate chip cookies were delicious. The staff answered my questions and I didn't spend more than 3 minutes in the store. I would definitely recommend.

One year I received a surprise Tres Leches Cake from here and we’ve never ordered anywhere else. The cakes are great and they do such a great job at ensuring your order is right. Stopped for a treat and left wishing I had ordered more. The best part? I thoroughly enjoyed the choco flan! It’s always my go to anywhere I stop and this was one of my favorites. We also got the fresa flan which was totally new to me, I had never seen this before and it was also super awesome. Then we got a baileys tres leches. I loved the options! Service was kind too! The worst part? Parking lot not too big so we parked on the side but not far by any means. They also sell food and drinks!

Best Tres leches I ever had. Its been 3 years in Des Moines, Pasteleria Raquel is my favourite place for cakes. I ordered a tres leches cake with pineapple for my first anniversary this time and it was perfect. My Wife loved it. The decoration on it was great and the taste was awesome.

First of all, it smells heavenly when you walk through the door. It was around 2:30 when we arrived, and they were still obviously working in the kitchen because the smells were fresh. The atmosphere is clean, fresh, and chic, and the cakes and desserts in the cases look absolutely astounding and irresistible. They have a large selection of options. Pasteleria was recommended for a special cakes. We had an excellent experience with them and the rest of the staff there. Clear communication, ease of transaction, and the Cake turned out better than we could have imagined!

We've only been here a few times, but it's a great place. The meal food is quick, not too expensive, and very tasty. What I really go here for, though, is their bakery goods. The tres leches cake is fantastic, and their cakes and cupcakes are just as good. We've ordered multiple birthday cakes for our young kids from here in the past as well, and their prices, size, and taste are all excellent. I would recommend these guys for a lunch or dinner, and definitely for their cakes.

Absolutely love this place! 100% vegan! The cinnamon rolls taste like phenomenal! You can’t tell there is no milk or butter inside! So warm and gooey! Great staff, super cute inside! Worth stopping by when you’re in the east village! I wish this was there when I lived in the east village! I would’ve taken a cinnamon roll and ate it at the capital! Very good! We also got the edible cookie dough and that was good too!

Went in and my experience wasn't great the cinnamon rolls barely had any toppings when the pictures of the cinnamon rolls in the store showed alot more . It was very disappointing with the price I paid. Our hostess wasn't very happy or excited to be there she had ear buds and in and my opinion not very welcoming at all. The cinnamon rolls were very good but very disappointed about the toppings.

Tried this for the first time with my husband and we were happy with what we shared. The cookie dough was really rich and we couldn’t eat the full scoop - even though we shared it- but we finished the roll we got. The prices did seem to be a bit steep for what you get so it isn’t something will get more than once or twice a year. With that said at least it was fresh. Depending on what you get a cinnamon roll costs between 6 and 9 bucks each.

I went here Friday morning on my way to work because I heard they have cronuts. Not only do they have them, but the have cronut holes! I was so excited. This place is truly awesome, not only are their donuts top tier and absolutely delicious-we got at least one of just about everything they had to offer- their customer service is also excellent. I placed an order the day before I needed them for an early pick up, she was patient and explained each modification I could make, and my pickup was seamless and they were so kind and had huge smiles the whole time. Will for sure be coming back!

We love ChuChu donuts! It's our regular Sunday morning donut spot- incredible staff, the absolute BEST apple fritter I've ever had, and choose your own fillings on the spot. These Easter eggs are too cute!

We stopped here after a night stay at the Holiday Inn close by. Very friendly and helpful counter staff. We got a small selection of donuts and it was hard to pick. The donut holes are delicious! The cake donuts were soft and fresh. And the cronuts were fantastic! Highly recommend this place if you want a delicious donut treat!

These ladies know how to make donuts. They are freaking delicious. One of the things that I really appreciate is they’re open at 5:30AM. I am able to go in there early before work and get a decent donuts for my coworkers.

An old school candy shop located in the heart of Valley Junction's wonderful downtown, Nan's Nummies lives up to its name by combining kind customer service with an amazing array of candies, fudge, and chocolate. We enjoyed our visit!

Store is under new management and has undergone a complete remodel and new look. Store has expanded it's selection, adding new candies, cupcakes, cakes, popcorn, and planning on adding more We were there for GRAND OPENING and it was spectacular. Had to leave with less than I wanted or I'd have gained 100 lbs just shopping If you're in the area and/or wanting special treats you'd be more than pleased by shopping here Staff were super good and attentive

Everything I tried is divine! Had dark chocolate covered toffee with sea salt, a party hardy truffle, coconut hay stack, and orange gel. All sooooooo good. Second visit I had kettle corn, mix up truffle, and a snow ball. Both times under $10. Both gals that waited on me were friendly, fun, and made me feel right at home. Also felt like they wanted me there- places don't do that anymore. Kudos!!! Will return to try many other things. That fudge looks delish, the cookies and bars looks good, there is a selection of taffy, and so much more. I allow myself 2 or 3 things per visit. Nice and clean inside. A few tables if you want to enjoy your treats there. Always some new things available. The brownie kits and bread kits are also amazing and easy to do at home.

Good ole Nan making it happen again and again and again with the nummies! I visited on my business trip. I tried the chocolate covered peanuts, chocolate covered almonds, some caramel chocolates, and some snow balls. They have an entire wall of jelly beans as well. Great location in the heart of downtown West Des Moines! I’ll have to give Nan another visit before I leave for some more of these delectable nummies!

The change in ownership has brought a change to Nan’s wonderful sugar cookies. I made special trips just to purchase. Now they are made with inferior ingredients and are not worth the drive. So disappointed !! 3-17-24. Stopped and purchased ‘puff pillows ‘. Don’t let them tell you they haven’t changed ingredients. The filling by Nan & Pella is real butter, powdered sugar and vanilla. The new owner has replaced it with frosting. It’s terrible. I threw them away. No more chances!!!

Picked up a variety of single serving cakes for my husband's birthday party. I took home a medley of champagne, chocolate mocha, and raspberry cakes. They were beautiful to look at and tasted incredible. Husband gave the champagne cake (his favorite) a very high rating and this has been uncommon! The bakery was cute and snuggled in the heart of Valley Junction. Excellent customer service (the owner helped me) and the prices were competitive. W Highly recommend this bakery!

Can’t say enough good things… we ordered a baptism cake and it was absolutely delicious! Our guests raved and raved about the cake for days. It was incredibly moist and the frosting was delicious. Besides the taste, we had great service and the cake was decorated beautifully. Definitely will order any future cakes here!

Walked in and immediately felt like a creepy environment. It’s dark inside and there’s a smell, not the smell of a bakery but that of an old and stale smell. I had ordered a pink cake with flowers - nothing else on it for my baby shower and I was surprised with a white cake with golden ball toppers and a couple flowers on the sides. Nothing what I had in mind. The owner saw how unhappy we were with the cake and didn’t try to do anything to fix it. Will not order again.

Super cute little shop serving up delicious cakes! We tried wedding cake, champagne and red velvet and all 3 were so good! Purchased a day early to be served at an elopement and it was perfect. Highly recommend

My mom got a custom coconut cake from this bakery, and oh my goodness. It was the most delectable, moist, and flavorful cake we have ever eaten! Not too sweet either, I could have eaten the whole three layer confection.

This is my second time back at Nadia’s and I’ll definitely be coming back. Their pastries are phenomenal. So buttery and flaky. I love supporting small local businesses too. The croissants have great lamination, the pastry cream is smooth, the bread for the ham sandwich was so good. Honestly 10/10 on the pastries we’ve tried. My only small complaint is the coffee takes a while to get, maybe that’s on me because I want to inhale my croissant as soon as I get it and enjoy a coffee with it. Also the coffee can be a bit strong for some.

Based on all the good reviews, I’m wondering if they purposely give all the stale left over, overcooked items to DoorDash customers. As you can see by the pictures, the beignets were overcooked, and every single item made its way to the trashcan. The croissants were all extremely dense and stale, but especially the almond croissant it was the worst of them. Super disappointed as I was really excited to try it, but everything tasted like it was at least a day or more old. I even tried reheating the quiche in the air fryer, and it was still terrible. $68 including DD tip.

Best croissant I’ve had in a while! Super airy, chewy and soft. The beignets are in the traditional donut shape and I can say the same about the taste and texture too. Have to say this is my new favorite place!

The baked goods are really delicious. I do wish the store hours were longer. I have tried to go to this place multiple times, but I work during their working hours. Overall, this place is really nice.

Hands down the worst pastry I’ve had. It was dry and tasted like day old. Never mind the high price I paid. So bad I had to go to La mie to get my pastry fix. Avoid the disappointment, not sure why they get good reviews but pasties should not be dry.

The ladies behind the counter were super sweet. The cakes are well made and great portion size for the cost. Not too sweet, the perfect blend of flavors. 10/10 would recommend.

Most gracious host whose suggestion of Turkish coffee was a real special treat that made you want to try everything. Portions were very generous and the food was delicious. I will definitely be back.

AMAZING food and super friendly service. I hesitate to even write this review because when everyone finds out, I’ll never be able to get in. I recently traveled to the Balkan coast where I had my first burek and fell in love with the food. I was so excited to hear about this place and it was fabulous!!!

Arrived about half an hour before closing. The employee behind the counter was really nice and answered questions about desserts. Ordered baklava, krempita, and Turkish coffee.

Highly recommend walnut cake, krempita and raspberry cake. They are creamy and just the right amount of sweetness. The layers of the cakes are well paired. Some desserts are too sweet for me, like tulumbe. It tastes like a churro soaked in syrup, one bite for me and that’s it. Sahar torte, tri lece and kinder bueno are little too sweet for me but much better than American style desserts. The owners are really nice, they generously gave me big pieces for sample and waited me patiently for ordering. Glad to have a decent and fair priced store in johnston.

I got a Reuben and it was disgusting! The meat was very tough and all fatty - the bread was good but my sandwich was ruined having disgusting meat. My husband got the blueberry croissant French toast and that was bad as well. The French toast itself had no flavor and was really stale. Never eating here again.

The mac and cheese is extremely disappointing. I thought the barbecue sauce on the brisket mac was the culprit, so I tried the plain version. But it was still bad.

Great little place to get lunch - variety of soups, salads, sandwiches, and power bowls. My personal favorite is the Honey-Dijon Chicken and Quinoa bowl - so good! Love their selection of desserts - brownies, cookies, etc. Have only dined in once and that seemed fine - seat yourself, drink station, etc. But they are fairly quick service whether dine in or take out. Convenient location for workers in the metro to grab lunch!

My first breakfast in Des Moines happened to be the #1 on the menu. Love the texture of the raisin cinnamon bread, how layered flavors of meat, cheese, egg, & sauce blend together & friendly the staff were. Neat building, great atmosphere for working on your laptop, a cup of coffee or brunch.

This location brings all of the chill ambiance/great food of the original location in Ankeny to downtown. It opened a couple of months ago and I will be back as soon as I can. Go if you haven't already!

Not sure how the wandas are being prepared, but the ones sold in the store by your company taste like italian spices instead of a light, sweet crispy pastry. I'll never pay 7.99 for a package again...was hoping these tasted like my grandmother's, but not even there.

I call this place one of the jewels of the Southside for a reason - the breakfast burritos are excellent, as are the breakfast sandwiches! I love getting locally sourced goods, including honey, pizza sauce and love drop cookies and the people are absolute gems themselves.

Amazing breakfast burritos. Huge and very meaty. Also fresh cannolis are very good! Service can be slow, I've waited 20 minutes before. I don't think their main business is focused on walk-in customers, but it's a charming local place with unique pre-packaged Italian cookies, a limited selection of breads, and friendly service.

Man I've stopped in 3x and have been amazed by their breakfast burrito. Wow. And also the bacon egg breakfast sandwich then I got the Capitola breakfast sandwich. 100% awesome

The bread is nothing to write home about. Not nearly the same as the big fluffy loafs I used to get at the Italian bakeries back home. These are more like soft French bread. Even the loaf called "Krispy" is not crispy. But this garlic foccasia is amazing. 5 stars for this foccasia. It is absolutely bursting with flavor. I highly recommend it. Unfortunately they were out of cannolis when I went but maybe next time. I would like to see more cookies and treats for sale.

I bought my wife her birthday cake from Becky... I was researching a new place to try and consistently saw the good reviews so decided to give her a try.. I have had some pretty bad experiences over the years and so its made me quite skeptical but FINALLY, I have found the best custom cakes and other desserts possible! Everything was absolutely unreal and was gone so fast LOL.. Everyone said the same thing about how amazing and it is not just cakes.. The brownies quite possibly were an even bigger hit! Not only that, she has the sweetest personality, is extremely responsive and helpful and very very fair on her prices... I would give her a 100 out of 5 is it let me! GLOWING recommendation which I do not give lightly and we have already placed another order! If you want the very best all around experience, I would STRONGLY recommend The Cake Confectionery!

Becky’s cakes are beyond compare! My husband hired her to make cakes for every day of the week for my 50th birthday. Each day was a different flavor and decorated according to the decade celebrated(ex 80s theme, etc). It’s difficult to choose a favorite as they are all mouth watering and delicious! It’s no wonder they sell out so quickly at Gateway Market! Amazing!

Becky is so creative and talented! Her cakes and cupcakes are always gorgeous and taste amazing. My husband asks for one every year for his birthday. Every special occasion starts with a call to Becky for her delicious treats. Her service is exceptional and the quality of her work is top notch. I highly recommend!!

Food was metiocre. The staff was awful and seemed drained to serve customers. Overall atmosphere was well maintained. Presentation of food was ok. Most of the issues stem from too high prices, low quality of food.

The food is good but I don't enjoy the price. I think the location has everything g to do with this. We would give them 5 stars if the price would come down.
