Restaurant Review: Surf & Turf Grill and Bar
Nestled in the vibrant Stanley Plaza, Surf & Turf Grill and Bar beckons diners with its tantalizing aroma, reminiscent of the delightful skewers I encountered at their booth during the Christmas market. The inviting scent lured me back, and I was pleased to find a menu accommodating my post-surgery dietary needs.
Upon entering the restaurant, I appreciated the staff's welcoming gesture, allowing me to select my preferred seating. I opted for an outdoor balcony table, which provided a charming view and an intimate atmosphere. Despite a slight breeze, the plush, thickly cushioned sofa offered an unexpected level of comfort, akin to lounging on a soft mattress. A warming lamp would have enhanced the experience, yet the overall ambiance was inviting. The warm water served by the attentive staff was a thoughtful touch, particularly on a chilly evening, and their lack of pressure to order drinks was refreshing.
For my meal, I chose the Grilled Scottish Salmon (HKD 268) paired with a tomato salad and mashed potatoes, alongside a Beef Lasagna (HKD 168). Although there was a delay in the arrival of my dishes, the server’s acknowledgment of this was commendable, reflecting a commitment to customer service.
When the salmon finally graced my table, I was struck by the generous portion size. The fillet, reminiscent of those enjoyed in Scotland, boasted a pristine pale hue, complemented by expertly executed cross-hatched grill marks. The skin was satisfyingly crispy, providing a delightful contrast to the perfectly cooked, tender flesh. The accompanying mashed potatoes and salad were substantial; however, the salad's flavor profile could have benefited from a more pronounced dressing, such as balsamic vinegar, to elevate the freshness of the vegetables.
Due to my post-surgery condition, I savored the salmon at a leisurely pace, which allowed me to fully appreciate its exquisite flavors. Upon transitioning to the lasagna, I found it somewhat cold and firm. However, the staff’s willingness to reheat my dish without hesitation demonstrated their dedication to ensuring a pleasant dining experience. The kitchen staff, equally amicable, promptly returned the lasagna, now steaming hot, and the thoughtful provision of a new spoon was a nice touch.
Visually, the lasagna was a feast for the eyes, adorned with an ideal layer of melted cheese. The Bolognese sauce, while distinctive and enjoyable, offered a slightly different flavor profile than traditional recipes. Overall, it proved to be a satisfying dish that I relished at my own pace, given my lingering difficulties with speed of eating.
As the evening progressed, my partner and I found ourselves as the last diners in the restaurant. Despite the late hour, with the establishment closing at midnight, the staff made no effort to rush us, allowing us to bask in the moment. This considerate approach was greatly appreciated, creating an environment conducive to relaxation and enjoyment.
In conclusion, Surf & Turf Grill and Bar is a hidden gem that I would eagerly revisit, particularly to sample their Indian and Pakistani offerings. With excellent service and quality food, I sincerely hope this establishment garners the recognition it deserves, especially during bustling weekends.
