I loved sitting and reading the plaques that had exposition and backstory on the item it was attached to. I kept finding more interesting things to sit and research briefly on a bench provided. I easilly spent 3 hours there and honestly wanted to stay longer, but my paid parking was running out of time. I came 5 years ago and it was amazing, and it was just as cool this time around, even seeing some of the same artifacts. I'd easily go back to view the things I had to rush past! So much to sit with and take in. I will be back to see the exhibits I didn’t get to see. The wealth of information is extensive. Make sure you wear the proper shoes because there’s lots of ground to cover. Thankfully, the museum has many places for you to sit and take a break or simple mull over the art work right in front of you. If you want to start with American History, take a right as you walk in. If you want to start with Ancient Greece and or Eastern Civilization, take a left. You’ll also find African American History to your right as well. The museum has four floors on either side. If you don’t mind walking, take the stairs. If not, hop on the glass elevator which allows you to view the exhibits while taking a ride. The exhibits are well diverse and rich with history. You’ll thoroughly enjoy yourself if you’re a history buff like me. I’m always amazed to see how far we’ve come and in turn, appreciate the many contributions our ancestors made. There is free parking avail on-site and the directions are easy to follow. Exhibits are quite interesting also have shows going on explaining everything. With older kids it can be hard to find a place that each age range has fun and the Witte really fit the bill! We loved the exhibits and learning about Texas history and the tree house area was a big hit for us all! The dinosaur area was well placed to welcome you into the museum. In a couple of places they have videos and mannequins that are very realistic. I also liked that they had different types of displays and different timelines in history. Everything from dinosaurs to a photo galley to an indigenous people gallery. This museum is well maintained with lots of clean bathrooms. Appropriate for people of all ages. It’s also laid out so that it’s mobility friendly. And I specifically noted that they are LGBTQ friendly. The cost was worth the several hours I spent there on my visit. It’s highly recommended.

To be honest we didn’t know what to expect but we really did enjoy ourselves. The food/burgers was really good, the staff were friendly and helpful when purchasing our museum tickets. We took our time walking through the museums (about and hour and half) and made sure to grab a magnet to remember it by when we left. Their gift shop has some really nice Texas inspired merchandise, don’t skip it. We will go back, at least for the burgers.

There's a lot to see here and you can certainly spend a good deal of time here between the various exhibits and the food/drink. I was given some basic rules for entering, all good and totally acceptable. I was given a little history of the house and was told it was a self guided tour. But it wasn’t self guided, you people followed me around watching my every single move. I would look over my shoulder and find one of you starring at me and then slowly backing up as to not get caught. I heard you behind me, the house creeks. I understand the house is filled with valuable antiques, some being small. But then put that stuff behind a partition! Stop watching people. I couldn’t even enjoy the beauty of this house because I was so uncomfortable. Someone has to escort you upstairs, which again is fine. You are doing too much. Both attendants in the house were incredible rude with their behavior. I wouldn’t return or suggest going here for the behavior of the staff. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable giving detailed tours on the history of African Americans in San Antonio and in general. It only has two rooms but it still is loaded with unique rich information. I only wished they had more items the store. (If your having a big wedding party not really the place for you) The evening was very elegant and perfect weather for my friends wedding reception. I did hear from them that the place has lots of "rules" to abide by and you aren't allowed in until a certain time to set up, which could be a game changer for some weddings but luckily they did have an hour before the wedding to set up and it looked perfect! If you have the right centerpieces, flowers and decor like they did your going to have a beautiful reception. The only drawbacks I saw were the bathrooms were one person at a time and no mirrors and the walkway pavements were very uneven! Definitely a walking hazard in some places. But it's truly a charming place and it has great atmosphere for the evening!! Once the flowers were placed and the candles lit with Beautiful music in the air and everyone in formal attire, the evening was made very elegant and classy.

Only $5 per adult for a self-guided tour. Lots of interpretive plaques to explain the fascinating history of the building and its numerous renovations. I really enjoyed the unique wooden doors and furniture. While not original to the building, they are appropriate replicas of what would have been there. Also thought the gardens in back were delightful with giant love oaks shading the walkways and fountain. Delightful staff greeted us on entrance. A fun stop.
