Paula and I had visited Pane E Vino (Italian for Bread and Wine) with some other friends about a year ago, and really enjoyed it, hence bringing Roland and Carol there. We arrived on time and were seated immediately. It's not a huge place so there's fairly close (but not too close) tables, and it can get a little loud, but there's apparently enough sound absorption so that it wasn't harsh, and I don't recall having to yell. I honestly didn't pay any attention to the decor, I just wanted to eat. But I think I recall that it's fairly dark and warm colors. And as much as people like atmosphere, the most important thing IMHO is the food and drink, and of course the service. Basically within one minute (if even) there was bread and dipping oil on the table, followed by another fellow pouring fresh water. Everyone was smiling and cordial. The bread, while not warm, was delicious and the oil (appeared to be mixed with balsamic vinegar) was a fine compliment to it. Oh, and there was a little bowl of the most delicious stone-in olives that I've ever tasted. Roland agreed. They were marvelous. I don't know if they make 'em themselves but I could eat those all day. Drinkwise, the ladies almost always stick with water, and Roland and I ordered our typical drinks, Grey Goose martini, and a Maker's Mark Manhattan, respectively. I believe my Manhattan was a little heavier than usual on the Vermouth, but it was delicious nonetheless, and there was a premium cherry waiting at the bottom. Our waiter (Juan) was a pleasant fellow, and quick to arrive and welcome us, and to take our food order. Roland ordered the Arancini appetizer, which was, in his words, the most delicious Arancini he'd ever eaten. I've not had a lot of experience with them, but I can at least say they were superb, and the best I've had so far. Oddly enough there was only three Arancini globes on the plate, though it worked out perfectly because Carol doesn't like risotto. But I mean seriously, when are there three people at a table? It's typically going to be a couple or two couples, right? Anyway ... For the main course, Paula got the Chicken Parm, and Carol got the Veal Parm. Carol was hesitant at first to order it though because it's on the bone, and she thought it'd be too thick. But I asked Juan who assured her it was thin. Roland ordered the Special Stuffed Pork Chop, and I got the Pork Chop from the menu. Roland really should've asked what the price on the Special was ($55!) because it was shockingly more expensive ($17 more!) than the one from the menu ($38). That must've been some kind of stuffing because it moved a PC into the pricing realm of a Filet Mignon (which I believe was $52) ... but at least Roland was really happy with the flavor and the portion. Both Carol and Roland gave their meals 5 stars. Paula and I gave ours 3.50 stars, because both or ours were overcooked -- as in dry. The only thing that saved both of these dishes was the delicious red sauce on hers, and the yummy demiglaze on mine. That, and her pasta was perfectly al dente, and my gnocchi was nice and firm. I'm sure we'll go there again, though hopefully we won't get overcooked dishes again. I've included only a photo of my pork chop.

The staff all clearly care about providing a great experience, and the atmosphere was nice except for the sports-bar-esque TVs above the bar (that are easy to ignore here). The gluten free options and care are great; the GF menu looks identical to the standard menu, and the staff was clear in options/accommodations. We were seated inside where the side retractable walls were up so we enjoyed being inside from the wind but still soaking up some sunshine. The staff themselves are very friendly, but it is noticeable that they are not trained properly. Some examples during our dinner: one of the waitstaff spilled water and our reserved table had to be switched as it noticeably soaked through the booth seat, wait staff started taking empty plates away while someone in our party was still eating, a waitress took away someone's wine glass that still had wine in it, and wait staff poured sparkling water into someone's still water glass. We also had issues with the complicated reservation process (see pic 1) and the lack of Saturday's complimentary valet as stated on their OpenTable. Food-wise, we found that some dishes such as the gnocchi were top quality, while others missed the mark in seasoning and execution (ex: the pork belly with the scallop dish is extremely dry and difficult to eat, rigatoni lacked salt and acid, banana ice cream [pic 9] arrived almost fully melted on the plate). We booked a reservation for the Chef Tasting Menu and we were not disappointed. They were very responsive and helpful via email. The restaurant has an incredibly unique layout, stairs to go down are located immediately at the entrance and the majority of the establishment is an elegant, cozy basement. We showed up fairly early in the dinner hour without a reservation. We were kindly told there would be a 2 hour wait unless we wanted to sit at the bar. We chose the bar and we were so glad! I got the passion fruit cheesecake to go because I was so full lol, I tried some once I got to the car and it was delicious! I also put on our online reservation it was our anniversary and even though I got the cheesecake to go they still brought out a plate saying happy anniversary which was really thoughtful! I like to judge a place by it's presentation of a Caesar Salad. Some places look like they threw a bunch of lettuce leaves onto a place and smatter some cheese on top, with a sneeze of Caesar dressing. CAV was not this place. We ordered the salad without croutons, and it was delicious. There was some baked parmesan on top of the salad that added to the flavor. The dressing was light enough that it did not overpower the other flavors, such as the lettuce and the cheese. The cocktails were excellent! I ordered the Silver and Gold Margarita, they were flavorful and highlighted the taste of the tequila without the taste of the alcohol. A very unique aspect. CAV is a place where I am curious about it all. When observing all of the artifacts, and the actual space that the restaurant was in, it tells a very cool story. I recommend taking the time to make a reservation and enjoy the time spent there. It is a wonderful thing for CAV to be in Providence!

I’ve come back multiple times in one week. Loved almost everything I’ve had here. The charcuterie board comes with soft boiled eggs and toasts. My husband and I are on our honeymoon (doing an east coast road trip) and we came to Angelos. We made the trip from our hotel in Boston to this local, family-owned restaurant in Rhode Island. There's good customer service and then "whatever the heck that was" (my huband). Everyone was sooo kind, friendly, welcoming, and funny. They repeatedly came and checked on us to make sure everything was good. The owner came to our table several times to serve us dishes and ask about our honeymoon and tell us about the history of the restaurant. (BTW it is still family owned and has been around for 100 years). Our waitress was also super nice and made sure everything was good! Whenever we treck back out to the east coast, we are for sure coming back and would highly recommend anyone to try Angelos!

We had a birthday coming up in the family and, what an excellent opportunity to finally try the restaurant that my husband is so passionate about. I identified myself, and I was lead to the back of the restaurant. This is where your experience starts because you will notice that is not the usual 'restaurant setup". You will pass the kitchen, then, climb up a very small stair and voila! you have just entered a realm of the most exquisite Italian cuisine experience. The space is small, with a few tables.
