To start we got the Olive Al Ascolana, served on some aioli, you got 3 Olives 2 of them were so small they essentially had nothing inside them and they just tasted of deep frying oil. I have had many Olive ascolana from close family in Ascoli and these did them no justice. They should be plump olives with a generous stuffing of cooked meats and veg made into a paste. Next Our Margarita with buffala mozzarella had 1 piece of basil on it, for $34 you would expect some more. The venue claims to be vera pizza napoletana, but to be totally honest the pizzas we received was not, i would call it more Roman style which are still great, the core issue being they are advertising and marketed on Instagram to be vera pizza napoletana and the photos on Instagram look fantastic, but we did not receive anything like that. The oven would of had to be well below 400 degrees to result in the pizzas we received. Our second pizza had scarola, red onion, anchovies and mozzarella. The onions we’re cut very rustico and the pizza was totally covered in them, it also had 3-4 pieces of anchovie bits so you could not even tell they were there. The dough lacked a captivating flavour as with the sauce and the volume of semolina on the crust resulted in a very crunchy pizza. I can’t comment on the pasta as didn’t try it. All in all I wouldn’t be going back anytime soon. The prices are very steep given what is being served.

As we were walking past we booked in for diner and grabbed some gelato to take away for and afternoon snack as we were staying close by and the gelato was delicious. The garlic bread was decent, especially the bread itself with a great texture...ever so slightly burnt on the edges but not enough to ruin it. This place is the real deal. If these guys were to open up a place in the centre of Adelaide and maintain this level of quality food and service, then they would be one of the most well known places in Australia. As it is, I think they just like to do this on the side and maybe even just for their own passion for it. But I have to say was the most flavourless pizza we have ever had. The dough was great! Crusty and delicious! But the vegan options were bland as they come. I think having a vegan option is needed in this day and age but not to have vegan cheese on a simple pizza isnt acceptable. And found the service very slow considering we were the only other couple dining in. If I was basing my review on this one visit, it probably would have been a 3 star, mainly because the special pasta we got was a bit bland and lacked some oomph and it was quite loud, albeit it was a Saturday evening so can’t complain about that. We did also get the speciale pizza which actually was very delicious. And that’s coming from a guy who’s now a huge traditional Italian style pizza guy. The garlic bread was large and generous and kind of fluffy which was interesting. Very tasty too. But in any case. Typically, I would say the food is good, service is good and at atmosphere is also up there. I wouldn’t rate it as my favourite Italian restaurant in Adelaide by any means but it’s passable. What I do like is the area. Any restaurant on King William road always has a leg up as the vibe is always nice around there and it’s a beautiful street. Lots of places near by for after dinner dessert or drinks if you’re inclined. Worth checking it out, hopefully you’ll get a wonderful experience. It has been such a pleasant surprise to find this gem, hidden from us amongst other famous restaurants and coffee shops in this prestigious area. I have been a huge fan of the Amalfi Pasta dish for 20 years, it is my go-to dish that I regularly treat myself to (travelling from the other side of the city); and when someone asks where the best pasta is Adelaide is - I would always suggest Amalfi on Frome. However on the last 3 occasions, it doesn’t seem like the same restaurant. The charm of the Amalfi Pasta is the light buttery cream sauce with prosciutto, mushroom and a hint of chili, it is simple yet refined, delicious, perfectly cooked pasta. But tonight it was a tasteless watery cream mess with random large chunks of coarsely-cut prosciutto. It seems like the pasta cook has just added a bunch of ingredients together not knowing what the draw of the dish is. It’s nothing like it. My partner usually gets the Amalfitana, and hers was even worse. Her pasta needs to be gluten free, which I know is harder to cook, but theres no consistency: some of the pasta is undercooked, almost crunchy, while other parts are brittle and falling to pieces. Whats more theres just barely any flavour - she is used to it having layers of taste but I tried some and it’s like something you would find at a pub or Fasta Pasta, not an Adelaide institution. I have really tried to convince her that the Amalfi I know and love will return - but it’s been 3 times in a row now of pure disappointment. We didn’t even feel like finishing our plates. So, honestly - I sincerely hope you can turn things around because I really want my favourite restaurant back :) Thank you.

The setting is something special, tucked into the grounds of Newman’s Nursery, surrounded by history and greenery. The atmosphere and service at the Aldgate Pump were very good but the food not so much. I ordered a steak at a cost of $50 (not an unreasonable price in today's prices). I usually like my steak medium rare but usually order them rare in a hotel/restaurant and they often tend to be overcooked, as it was this time, but considerably more. I considered the steak I received to be medium to medium/well done - the three other people all agreed it was well-overcooked and I Googled some steak doneness charts when I got home to confirm my opinion. I asked the waitress if I could have another one - something which I don't think I've ever done before. She obliged and took it back to the kitchen. Shortly after the front-of-house lady came to our table and asked if I would like something else instead (at no charge), which I didn't and asked for another steak, just less well done. She was quite insistent that I should have a different meal but I stuck to my guns. Shortly after I received another steak, with the same sides as my original steak (they were cold and soggy) but this steak was virtually uncooked. It had no crust whatsoever - just being ever so slightly browned on the outside and cold in the centre (and I mean fridge-cold - not just room temperature). Both steaks - the original overcooked one and the uncooked one - had quite a bit of sinew, making them difficult to cut and, I assume, to eat (I don't know because I only had a mouthful of each). Well we get served dips and bread about 20 minutes in. That’s fine. Next minute before dips were finished, our main dish of halloumi and potatoes arrive. We are like great okay, mains are on their way. Well half hour went by, and next minute the business manager comes over to tell us that the lamb chops we ordered weren’t a full sized dish so we will give you chicken instead. We are like yep let’s do it at this point. Because one hour into service and we’ve only been served entrees we are ready to walk. Potatoes and halloumi with dips is all we have had at this point and basically at this point, halloumi is dry and cold and so is the potatoes. A bowl of potatoes served and then no protein is ridiculous. Then just when we were prepared to get up which we should have just walked at 1.5 hours of virtually nothing at this point. We get served Koftas with part of a salad and bread and a sauce for two people, and then the chicken skewers. The business manager comes over to ask how the Chicken skewers were, we hadn’t tried at that point. We ate our food and went to pay the bill all to find that they had charged us for a dish they changed us to. When I brought it up with the lady at the desk she blankly lied to my face and told me that she took it off. I said it’s right there still on the screen. She gave me a dirty look and flops out the eftpos machine and said to me oh no I’ve taken it off. Clearly by this receipt I asked for, suggests she never took it off. First Impressions As we approached Ballaboosta, the tantalising aroma of spices drifted down the street, hinting at the culinary delights awaiting inside. The inviting scent immediately set high expectations for our meal. Dining Style and Menu Ballaboosta’s menu is thoughtfully designed for sharing, making it ideal for enjoying a variety of dishes with friends. We decided to indulge in a communal feast, sampling several of their signature offerings. The Feast Our meal began with spinach and feta triangles, generously filled with spinach, tomatoes, onion, feta, lemon and mixed spices. This starter was the perfect way to whet our appetites. Next, we savoured spiced rice vine leaves—rice rolls wrapped in marinated grape leaves with tomato and parsley, served alongside tangy yoghurt and warm wood-fired pita. These were among the most flavoursome I have ever had. The Mediterranean Cauliflower was a highlight: chargrilled cauliflower florets topped with tahini, lemon and chilli sauce. The standout dish was the Fattoush Salad, featuring seasonal greens, bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, Spanish onion, Lebanese cucumber, toasted pita crisps and a homemade mint, lemon and sumac dressing. The zesty dressing brought out the freshness of the vegetables and made the salad especially memorable. It masks the smell of any of the food, even as it's sat next to you on other diners' tables. The staff, especially Lukshna, are great and very accommodating, providing great service. My partner ordered the bolognese and said it was flavourful and exactly what he wanted when he ordered it. I ordered the gnocchi, and it was bland. It tasted like someone had described tomato to someone, then they plated it and sent it out. However, the texture of the gnocchi was great. The highlight of the night was the tirimisu tart.

The size of the main dishes were small for the price. A small dish can sometimes have a higher price if the quality is there, however the basics were totally missed. Sauce & ingredients listed on the menu were also barely there. The arancini balls also tasted not freshly made & were over cooked. The rice had no texture & resembled more of a gloopy paste. To say we were dissapointed is an understatement. It was our first wedding anniversary and we wanted a fine dining experience. It was tasty, just far from their boasting of the best. We also ordered ragu which was very tasty but not worth the price tag. There was one sausage cut in half.
