PLENTY of seating in this beautifully decorated/furnished establishment. A lovely setting, next to and overlooking a canal. Live sport being shown both inside and outdoors. My daughter especially loved the swinging chair on the decking out back. The staff were friendly and welcoming to us (2adults,2kids) and our furry friend (dogs welcome). They were also great with assisting adaptations to dishes, to suit the needs of a child with Sensory Processing Disorder. The meal was good value for money and they even had a Doggy menu, to treat your furry friend, which was a lovey touch. If you are in the area...it is definitely worth a visit. The only downside, there was no direct parking at the venue that we could see.

The food was sooooooo delicious and FRESH. However if you just want a nice pizza/pasta dish and you're not worried about price, give this place a go. Booked over the phone the day before (Thursday for a Friday reservation). When we arrived on Friday it was pretty packed and they were turning people away that hadn't booked so I would recommend booking ahead. The buildings and gardens are indestructibly beautiful and a dream to explore. Just a path’s walk to Ware and all of its historical pubs and conveniences. I've stayed at the finest hotels in America and many in the UK and this stole my heart. I am coming back while not on business with my family to walk the countryside and collect the beautiful flint stones from the fields, and occaisional cannon ball from the 1500's and arrow heads from days gone by. All while taking a short path walk to my favoite pubs in Ware.

It truly is a fantastic place: a beautiful house and amazing gardens, including a formal garden close to the house and a Japanese garden connected by a beautiful wisteria path (no doubt a favourite spot for wedding photos). I couldn't believe how quiet it was - I think I only saw a couple of staff members for the two days we were there, and only a handful more guests. But that's what made it such a good stay, it was very quiet and very relaxing. We were lucky and got our room upgraded (possibly because there seemed to be hardly anyone there). We were in one of the courtyard rooms, which was really home from home - as in there only seemed to be one towel and it took me ages to find the TV remote. Joking aside it was a lovely, light room, really clean and comfortable. I can't finish without mentioning the cooked breakfast. It was exceptional, and it was a massive plateful. I didn't need it after a curry in Ware the night before, but that didn't stop me. Can find no fault with this place, and would definitely recommend it.

Look forward to our next visit as we stayed overnight at the manor hotel Parking is made easier by having a public car park off a side road near the restaurant and was free at that time just walk 20 seconds to the restaurant. NOT CHILD OR BABY FRIENDLY. The reason I say this is because the floors are so dirty/full of grease that you nearly slip every time you walk. I asked for some boiled water to make my newborns formula milk, I was refused the boiled water (even though they serve hot drinks) and was offered warm tap water. I politely explained that would not work as baby’s have very sensitive stomachs and it needs to be boiled to kill the bacteria etc. The manager very rudely and ignorantly jumped in the conversation with no empathy or care that my newborn was crying because he was due his bottle and he was refusing to give this to us to help me be able to feed my baby. I had to walk down the street and go into another restaurant to get the boiling water to feed my baby. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. He clearly has no children of his own or no common sense if he thinks I am going to give boiling water to a baby, you do realise NHS guidelines tell you that you have to make formula with boiling kettle water to KILL the bacteria!!! Which is the then cooled down with a cooling flask?! He actively suggested for me to use the alternative which would HARM my baby and potentially make him very poorly!! He should be ashamed. Halfway through the experience, it took 2 hours to receive all our food, and when we were served it the waiters were holding boiling hot gravy over my babies head to which it nearly spilt on him and I had to tell the waiter to move and he laughed it off saying “I wouldn’t want to kill your baby hahaha” how is that even remotely funny? Sicko. The candle on the middle of the table fell as the tables are so wonky and uneven which resulting in the dramatic scene of the candle rolling towards my 10 month old nieces face and lucky her mum caught it with just inches to spare before it burnt her! Not only was the service HORRIFIC, half the stuff on the menu wasn’t available, they forgot someone’s order, the meat was dry and the drinks took over 30 minutes to come after we sat down. Upon all this mess and the AWFUL, RUDE manager decided to take his dog for a walk and was not seen again as he didn’t want to deal with the issues occurring. He did not apologise or possess a single ounce of empathy. The place may be cheap, however it is like being sat in a trap house, the floor is so filthy, it stinks of urine, the tables and walls are so sticky and have never been wiped down. There’s being cheap and cheerful and then there’s being scummy. I dread to think how filthy the kitchen is if that is what is available for the public to see and experience. I will never go back and I will be making every single person aware of how awful this squat/restaurant is

At no point did she try to make any parent aware of anything going on, instead she took it upon herself to shout across a pub full of people, who in turn all looked at the child making his situation worse. Roger's communcation was exemplary and it was such an enjoyable experience tasting the menu that he'd designed for us, with all our favourite meals! From jackfruit burritos, to samosas, to the most incredible selection of dips - every buffet option was cooked to perfection on the day. Every member of staff was extremely friendly and proactive when serving, and our guests with dietaries were extremely complimentary of the food they devoured. We loved the personal approach of Chef's Table - they were unlike any other caterers in their approach, pricing and the quality of food/service. We really appreciated the great communication with Roger via email and phone when requesting quotes and different options for our day. About three quarters of the way through the wait, our waiter came over to ask if we wanted any sauces(!). Firstly when trying to book a table called up and was told their booking service was down currently, but to go online and book? Surely if its not working for staff how would it work for customers online?! Arrived 15 minutes before 7pm booking waited to be served a drink when it was pretty much empty inside. Once seated at our table it took sometime to order our food the staff member seemed to struggle with the system.we ordered two of the pan fried pork fillet, after a 45 minute wait we was given our food but unfortunately not what we ordered. We aren't fans of gammon but after the long wait we accepted the food disappointingly. It only got worse as we both cut into the meat to find it wasn't fully cooked and clearly raw inside. I complained and the manager come over and asked if we would like it cooked abit more....!! Seriously! Reheating pork is a massive no! So disappointed our meal/evening was ruined. We won't be returning, it seems there was no trained chef in that evening. King's mead has gone downhill since opening.

So this is not a review but feedback related to our Sunday lunch today. The food was great which we had already pre ordered so I wanted to give feedback in relation to service. We had a table booked for 3pm but on arrival clearly all tables were still occupied and so we were directed to the bar. Maybe a complimentary drink could have been offered? We were eventually shown to the table and ordered a drink, we didn't order starters etc. There appeared to be a large table of diners which was taking the attention of the waiting staff. The drink I ordered still hadn't arrived so had to ask again. Our food arrived which was great as always but we had little interaction from the waiting staff as they were still engaged with the large table. When that table was leaving they then spent time re setting the tables for other diners. We had finished eating but we're left with no interaction. I ordered two more drinks and was given the dessert menu but this was around 40 mins or so after we had finished our roast dinners. The drinks took an age to arrive and it took quite a while for someone to take a dessert order. At this point we had beets n in the dining room for an hour and half and received little attention. I decided to pay the bill and leave. To be honest it was quite obvious that there were too many bookings and the staff were struggling to keep up and other tables were clearly late to be sat. I realise that things can change at a moments notice but it would have been nice to have been kept informed. As I say this is not a review but feedback on the service today. The food and service is always exemplary but something was amiss today.

We drove from Chelmsford for lunch and decided to give the Golden Fleece a try. On arrival we were greeted by Jade who was extremely friendly and helpful. Served us beer and wines and showed us to our table. We had a choice of eating in the bar or dining room and chose the latter. Not an extensive menu and a few lunches on the Specials board. But this is what we liked. Hate trailing through menus with many dishes. We chose Chicken pie with veg, Sea bass with veg/salad and beef fillet strips with mushrooms and rice. Be aware that the food is not delivered quickly as it is cooked fresh on order and there is a sign indicating this fact. Jade was very attentive during our wait and had time to chat. Believe me it was well worth the wait. Superbly cooked by the chef. Didn’t have desert but participated in coffee which was delicious. Will definitely be returning soon. Excellent value for money. This place is a little gem and thoroughly recommend.

We had a wonderful lunch, great food, they have loads of vegan, veggie and gluten free options! We had the sausage and mash which was delicious, steak sandwich and the burger! Great pub food. They have seating at the pub and then a restaurant at the back. The chap running the pub was lovely too and was really attentive but left us to it at the end to enjoy our drinks at the end!
