The wait wasn’t too long, which was a nice surprise. I had the prawn cocktail—it was delicious and generously sized, could’ve easily been a main course! Waited 30 minutes for a menu and for our drinks order to be taken and another 30 minutes until we got them with half missing. After a painful 2 hour wait, we decided to leave as everyone was hungry and still no sign of all our starters arriving. The owner called on the following Monday to apologise and to offer our family a meal on the house to make up for it and after spending £160 on the deposit and leaving hungry. We have left several messages and sent 2 emails to book a table and our calls and emails have been ignored! I don’t personally like to leave bad reviews, but they have left us with no other option. On booking it for Mother’s Day, we were promised a small gift for every mum and a delicious 3 course meal. There was no gifts and most importantly, we left with no food. The lack of poor service is due to greed and booking in more people than they can accommodate. If booking for a special occasion, I would avoid at all costs.

Booked over the phone the day before (Thursday for a Friday reservation). When we arrived on Friday it was pretty packed and they were turning people away that hadn't booked so I would recommend booking ahead. The waitress then repeated the order back to me and my girlfriend and the duck was included. Our food arrived all at once apart from the duck. At that point we asked the manager clearing the plates how long the duck would be, he went to check and then returned with the receipt showing us the duck was never on the order. We stated that we did order it and he made us feel like we were lying. He then asked if we still wanted it which obviously I did as all I had was the starter and he did not apologise once for the mistake or inconvenience. Around 5 minutes later, the same waitress who took our order wrong, said it was going to be 15 minutes, she also didn’t apologise once. We waited around half an hour whilst every other table around us was receiving and finishing their food. When the food finally arrived with yet another waiter, I immediately asked for the bill as we had spent too long in there and also the cutlery as I struggled to eat it with chopsticks. The waiter nodded his head and then went back to doing many different other tasks. I was forced to struggle and continue to eat my duck with the chopsticks as no other member of staff would even look at us and after finishing we had to yet again ask ANOTHER member of staff for the bill. In summary, whilst the food was amazing, the service from the distracted, uncaring, and unfriendly servers to frankly a rude and unapologetic manager completely let this experience down and I will be not coming again.

I have never been here before but have passed it many times when visiting my grandparents who used to live around the corner. All food and drink was ordered through the McMullens app which was good! Another chap was quite confrontational to one person in our group regarding an incorrect drinks order and went on to explain how he'd worked there for however many years and how he knew how to do his job etc. Now I understand sometimes you need to prove your knowledge and experience, but when you've been served a drink a certain way 3 or 4 times, and then the last time you order it it comes out differently, we as customers don't really need to hear your justification nor that you'd need to reprimand a member of staff. Just an apology will do and a swift correction will do fine, regardless of who was at fault or if there would be any additional charges. Just for clarity; I have worked in customer facing jobs for 20+ years, so I've had my fair experience in customer service and how you deal with awkward situations. As for the atmosphere, it's a bit different to the usual country pubs we regularly visit further north in Hertfordshire, groups of roudy blokes, getting the odd stare here and there etc, I wouldn't say that it's entirely a great place to bring young family or the elderly. (or not on days like today at least) Obviously being a pub you can't pick your customers, but it wasn't the greatest atmosphere to be in. Having ordered and booked a half hour delivery slot we sat patiently waiting for our food to arrive. The allotted slot came and went, we thought ok, give them a few more minutes. Still no food arrived. I rang the restaurant to be told that our food was on the way (we live 3 miles away) and to “Have a little patience sir”. Another 30 minutes went by, still no sign of our food,so I rang again to be told, again that it was on the way, and to “Have a little patience sir, what else can you expect us to do?” I replied that I expected our food to be delivered in the allotted time slot, and not to be told to “Have a little patience sir”. The food did eventually turn up, over 45 minutes after the time slot ended and was hot ( not sure how long it had really been out for delivery) and was very tasty. This is the only reason it’s a two star review, rather that one. Edit: I ordered through Uber Eats, which gave me a 30 minute delivery slot. As you’re probably aware, once the order has been completed, this delivery slot isn’t visible on the receipt in app. So asking for a screenshot is a bit fruitless. Maybe you should let Uber Eats know that you can’t stick to a 30 minute slot
