If you like your boutique distillery, combined with the ‘tiny bar’ feel, packed full of history and fascinating stories, and really lovely staff…then this is a must visit for Melbourne. I’m into my cocktails, gins and whiskies and this place really delivers. The spicy margarita was next level. Not really spicy from a chilly perspective, but packed full of some unique flavours I had not experienced before. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I also tried the Peking duck fat Old Fashioned. Might sound weird to some but it was excellent. Super smooth and delicate on the palate… not overpowering like some OF’s. It came in that cute little bottle I show in one of the photos. But beyond the cocktails…which were all good…the thing the distinguishes this place is the quality of the liquor they make, and the stories that came with them. The gins are all super unique and so smooth you can drink them neat. The Miss Yoko is made with fresh lichees and you can taste that through the gin. The Proudfoot was a more London style dry gin, but with its own unique twist. There is even a rhubarb gin which completely blew me away. Finally…and this one really surprised me…they have their own absinthe. Now just the name absinthe conjured up some horror teenage memories and I am not a massive aniseed person, but in true form, this was smooth, delicate and really nice. To cap things off I tried the whisky…and to be honest, I didn’t realize they even did whisky at first, but when they pulled out one of their bottles, I had to give it go. It was phenomenal. I have had a lot of whisky over the years and been to many distilleries and this was right up there. Chatting to the owners through the night we were treated to stories about the different people that have owned the building and influenced the local community…many of whom the bottles are named after. You can see the original Miss Yoko in one of my photos. She was a working girl from back in the day, who became a madam and owned the property we were drinking in. Their beers are great and are brewed on-site. The food however is lacking alot. We had a variety of food which included Mac n cheese, spicy BBQ wings, brisket and Korean chicken burger. The Mac and cheese was flavourless, Kraft brand had more flavour. The wings were okay however if they are labelled spicy and the sauce is spicy then it needs to be spicy. The wings were juicy though which was good. The loaded fries weren't too bad however the brisket on both loaded fries and itself was tender but very dry. The Korean chicken burger was definitely the best. The chicken was super crispy and moist. The prices are okay and reflect the quality of the food. It's a great venue however the food was just not good enough. They also don't do take away coffees which I have never come across before. We will continue to buy the beers when in the area however we wouldn't eat here again.

Wagyu Beef Tartare MB8+ ($19.8) - this was very different in terms of flavour when it comes to a regular steak tartare and this tartare. This one was delicious and definitely had different ingredients to a normal tartare. I enjoyed this one, but I wish the rice cracker was more crispy, it was a tad bit soggy. Fried Corn Riblets ($12.8) - I love corn so I had to try these, I liked them, it was very umami, but it did not feel or taste ‘fried’. Crispy Chicken Karaage ($13.8) - crispy chicken pieces with bone in, nice seasoning and came with a gochujang aioli. The gochujang aioli had a nice colour, but I didn’t realise it was aioli, there wasn’t much garlic flavour in it. Claypot Rice of Wagyu Fullblood MB9+ ($26.8) - we both liked this one, it was really flavourful, the wagyu was soft and not dry. The rice was seasoned really well and I liked that. Grilled Chicken of Hainan ($32.8) - The chicken was super soft and tender, there was a chilli crunch with crispy shallots which gave it that oomph. Umami French Fries ($9.8) - very umami tasting fries, I liked it. Galok had really nice vibes and I would definitely come back for a casual yet a little bit nicer dinner. Service was really good, food definitely came out fast and you did not have to wait long for some dishes. I definitely recommend the claypot rice as that is what we both really enjoyed. The atmosphere was beautiful and the estate is stunning. We were very lucky with the weather that Sunday afternoon as we had some nice sunshine. We booked the 5-course meal at $110 pp. The food was delicious however there wasn’t enough pork belly (main) for all of us. This was remedied but we had to wait a while for more to come out while the side roast veggies (potato and carrots) were still on the table getting cold. The service we found to be lacking unfortunately. The overall experience was good except towards the end of the day when dessert was brought out and we ordered coffee/tea. We were told earlier that we had to leave by 5pm but we were not given any warning by staff as bride and groom and we didn’t touch our drinks or dessert. Our guests did which was great but because we were busy taking some professional photos we left the table for 10 minutes or so and by the time we got back the table had been cleared. We asked for everything left over to be put in take away containers throughout the day with each course but we only got our child’s meal and the little dessert left on the serving platter at the end not the leftover mains on the serving platter or the dessert we had put on our own plates that we hadn’t touched and were looking forward to along with coffee and tea again that we hadn’t touched. We feel that the rush at the end to vacate the area put a damper on our overall experience as we did not get to sit and enjoy the remainder of our meal. Not to mention earlier when we were trying to take photos around the estate and staff rushed out to tell us the path down to the vineyard was off limits unless it is booked with the estate’s event coordinator in advance for insurance liability reasons. This is understandable but we had a professional photographer with us for the afternoon and it would have been good to know this information when we arrived as we spent a bit of time taking photos at the expense of sitting down with family enjoying our meals without feeling rushed (we missed most of the entree at the start). For a private dining experience which also happened to be an intimate celebratory lunch with family following our wedding ceremony, we were left a bit disappointed. Communication between staff and between staff and us throughout the afternoon could have been better, particularly towards the end if we could have been given a reminder 5 or 10 minutes before clearing our untouched dessert plates and drinks would have been great.
