The hotel was easy to find, had its own parking and was located in the middle of down with everything on your doorstep. Looks like it had been there a while....clearly the chair hadn't been pulled out to clean behind recently. The glass was broken on the window and sellotaped up, not the best look for a place of such good reputation. I gashed my arm whilst in the shower, the soap dispenser had VERY sharp edges. I informed a member of staff who immediately got the manager (Danny) but he didn't seem too interested and seemed to think it was my own fault when I showed him the problem. He gave me a plaster but never mentioned it again throughout our stay, never asking if my arm was ok. Pretty bad customer service. A totally different experience from when we stayed in 2015 where nothing was too much trouble and cleanliness seemed to be of a much higher standard. On a positive note....breakfast was delicious and GREAT views from the dining room. We won't be staying again unfortunately.

Upon entering the establishment we saw two members of staff behind the bar who totally ignored us, we stood at the bar for a while before one of them pointed out a hand written sign about two inches square saying “no service at this bar.” Despite the fact the two bar staff were stood 4 feet away they wouldn’t come over to us, we had to walk round to the opposite side of the bar for service. When we were eventually served it was by one of the most miserable people we have ever met, no please or thank you. The two bar staff (one male, one female) were like extras from the League of Gentlemen but not as good looking. We sat down with our drinks and proceeded to watch the football until five minutes later a couple with dogs came in, obviously locals. They walked up to the same bar we had been refused at and were promptly served by one of the bar staff who was very friendly towards them, laughing and joking. When I asked why we had been refused service but they had not I received the reply “they’re locals.” We drank up and left but not before stating our opinion to the ignorant bar staff. There are lots of really nice pubs and bars in Windermere to spend your hard earned cash, the Queens certainly isn’t one of them. We will never go in there again until there is a change of management, we have never met such rude and ignorant bar staff. Beware of this establishment, they don’t deserve your custom and there are far better places in the town.

The food we had was excellent with some interesting menu choices and backed up by a decent choice of draft beers too. The service was efficient but friendly and engaging at all times. The pub is set amongst gorgeous scenery, that really makes you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. The atmosphere inside is warm and cosy, which was needed during our visit as the weather outside was very wet! The staff were incredibly friendly, whilst the food was delicious. We visited twice, the first time having the venison pie which is highly recommended, and sausage and mash the second time which was also delicious. Very dog friendly, with at least half a dozen faithful friends inside when we visited - they also have a small group of gorgeous white and ginger cats roaming the area who are incredibly friendly. If you're looking for a great place to relax and get food, this is the place. My only advice, would be to make sure you have a torch or enough battery on your phone if you're walking there as the road in and out after sunset is pitch black with no road lighting.
