Northern Italian restaurant
Italian restaurant
Located in Ottawa's vibrant Byward Market, North & Navy is a charming Northern Italian restaurant housed in a converted home. The restaurant offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, serving seasonally focused dishes that showcase the best of Italian cuisine with an innovative twist. From their delectable homemade gnocchi to their unique cocktails, North & Navy provides an unforgettable dining experience.
Out of the park from beginning to end. Stefan was awesome and made sure everything was explained and great suggestions. The food was superb. Every bite was fantastic. We ate family style, which I encourage so you can try more dishes. Hats off to the owners, chef and all the staff.

North &Navy has been on my “to try list” for a long time. Sadly, the wait was in vain. Our antipasti, Chichetti and our Primi, Ravioli Incompiuto were well presented and creative, however flavour and temperature were lacking. We had two Main dishes. The Halibut & Peperonata was over cooked ( fish was chewy ) , over seasoned and had an abundance of oil on the plate. The Tournedos Rossini was a confusing flavour and texture. combination. Temperature barely warm . Overall, an ok taste. Whey Panacotta dessert, another confusing texture and flavour just not good. Thankfully we were offered a replacement ( tiramisu) which was marginally better. In our selected menu items, the Italian influence was not obvious. Cocktails, service and wine won our stars. Very happy on that front . Sadly we will not return.

We recently celebrated a friend’s birthday at North & Navy in their private dining room. Since we were a group of 16, we had a set menu, but the staff kindly let us order from the regular menu as well. The private space was intimate and charming, which made it perfect for the occasion. One small drawback was the seating — the table had a mix of comfortable leather chairs and less comfortable wooden ones. It would have been nice if everyone had equally comfortable seating. Our server, Rasheen, was excellent — warm, attentive, and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the evening. The food was enjoyable, though the portions were on the smaller side. That said, we still left satisfied. The drinks leaned a bit strong, but they were flavorful and well-crafted. Overall, it was a lovely spot for a special celebration.
Saarangi B — Google review
I had an amazing time at North and Navy! The food was incredible - I tried the white truffle pasta, the butternut squash mezzaluna, the halibut panne and gnocchi, and the tiramisu. All were amazing, but the truffle pasta and tiramisu were the highlights. My server/bartender Quinn went above and beyond helping me choose food and wine, and suggested an amazing wine pairing for the truffle pasta. She was super knowledgeable about everything behind the bar (there are some bottles with cool stories back there!). She made the experience great!

Best appetizer even had! Cocktail is very good! We tried 4 different type of them. We tried 3 types of main courses since we don’t want to miss anything! Surely will come back on our next trip!

Hit and miss northern Italian cuisine! This restaurant has been on our “maybe” list for a number of years – many great reviews / high ratings but based on their sample menu, we were not sure if we would enjoy the dinner offerings. Having recently spent two amazing weeks touring northern Italy, my wife and I decided to finally try this restaurant to celebrate my birthday. One word can sum up our experience … disappointing! Here is what we ordered: - Negroni / mocktail Negroni as well as two glasses of wine - Polpette / Beets & Blue Cheese - Butternut Squash Mezzaluna / Uni Orecchiette - Zeppola alla Tiramisu (shared) My wife’s mocktail was very good but my drink was not enjoyable – overly bitter and did not even come close to the real deal in Italy which we drank several times when we were there. My glass of white wine (from Piedmont) was very good – my wife’s Lambrusco was not its traditional red colour – it was rosé (unexpected but still good). The polpette were ordinary at best – not much taste. Also, there was no cheese sprinkled on the polpette (which is the way the dish is usually served). When my wife asked for some cheese, our waitress gave her a small bowl of grated cheese. It was tasteless and was clearly not Parmigiano Reggiano. When asked, the waitress did not know what type it was and had to ask someone in the kitchen – she later told us that it was Grana Padano. We know both cheeses very well and it did not taste like either one. Honestly, we were appalled! Parmigiano Reggiano is a northern Italy staple – a fine dining restaurant claiming to be a “northern Italian kitchen” should be ashamed serving some cheaper substitute. The beets / blue cheese dish was very good – although the portion was extremely small and oddly covered with endive leaves. Since it was about the same price as a “primi”, I would have expected more than a few dollops of blue cheese on a few paper-thin slices of beets. Before ordering, the waitress told me that the mezzaluna was served in a brown butter sage sauce – so, I was expecting it to be somewhat on the savoury side. However, the sauce was way too sweet for my liking (similar to brown sugar) and the dish was not very warm. My wife’s uni orecchiette was excellent. The dinner did end on a good note as the zeppola was very good and we were not charged for it (presumably because it was a birthday celebration or maybe due to our negative feedback to the waitress). The presentation of the dishes was very good and the ambiance was cozy (except for the odd music selection). This was an expensive dinner that should have been consistently much better at that price. We will not be going back.

I would give this 3.5 stars. The restaurant is super cute, our server was fun and lively, but the food fell flat a lot of the time. Portions felt extra small, and the empty tortellini was crazy. Still good, but wouldn’t return.

The restaurant is very cozy. The server Logan was amazing, he knew a lot about food allergies and made our stay very pleasant. The food was hot and full of flavour. Lots of GF options.

Union Local 613 is a unique and stylishly old-timey hangout located in Centertown, offering three stories of Southern-inspired dishes and libations. The restaurant is housed in an old brick house and features communal seating tables on the main floor, as well as a speakeasy behind a bookcase.
Our friends introduced us to this establishment and we were pleasantly surprised. We were able to reserve a table downstairs in The Speakeasy and it was very intriguing indeed. It’s a small and cozy space. The bartender was great with her cocktail creations. You just tell her what you like and she will conjure up a tasty beverage. The food was great as well. I didn’t have their fried chicken which apparently they are known for but the bass that I had was superb! The service was great! The only little gripe I have is that I found it a little too dark for my liking. I realize that it’s part of the ambiance and setting but I would have liked to see more clearly what I was eating 😂 But that’s a minor thing and overall I really enjoyed the experience and will likely return for another go. 😎👍

Drinks and food were tasty and perfectly served. The staff is very friendly and efficient. First time here, but will surely come back. We booked a table, but it was not crowded; I’d say you don’t need to book in advance

Love love this dining experience. Food is delicious. Cocktails were unique, very good. Service was excellent. We ordered a variety of appetizers which they kindly made a platter for us, making it easier to share. Highly recommend for an enjoyable evening out in Ottawa!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We celebrated our daughter’s 20th birthday at Union Local 613, and she absolutely loved it and so did we! The atmosphere was warm and vibrant, and the food was delicious from appetizers to dessert. Our server, Jamil, truly made the evening special, friendly, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable. He took the time to explain the menu, suggested fantastic drinks and the grits (which were amazing!), and made us feel genuinely welcome. It was a perfect evening all around, and we’ll definitely be back!

I had celebrated my birthday here with friends and the staff were so kind and accommodating. Everyone was just so warm and welcoming, as well as very knowledgeable about the food and drink menus. Both food and drinks were absolutely delicious. The entire experience here went above and beyond my expectations. I will definitely be coming back. Thank you for making this a great birthday night for my friends and I! 🫶🏽

Beckta Dining & Wine is an upscale venue in Ottawa that offers a refined seasonal New Canadian menu and a separate wine bar area. The restaurant prides itself on being an approachable take on fine dining, with Canadian-inspired modern fare and an extensive local and international wine list. Housed in a restored heritage home, the unique dining room space is divided into nooks and crannies throughout the building, adding to its charm.
Delicious food, and none of the miniscule portions you expect from a fine dining establishment. Beautiful historic home built into a restaurant, though some rooms are quite loud when packed. We were celebrating a birthday and the kind waiter gave us a lovely dessert wine, gratis.

I’m not easily impressed and I don’t usually write reviews, but this restaurant and especially Al, truly deserves it. We had a wonderful dinner here and were warmly welcomed by the very friendly staff. The atmosphere made our evening in Ottawa truly enjoyable. To top it all off, we were served a delicious dessert along with a selection of (dessert) wines, ensuring we could choose the perfect match. Such a beautiful way to end the night and our trip in Ottawa. :) Once again, thank you Al, it was unforgettable!

I had an outstanding dining experience at BECKTA Dining & Wine Bar in downtown Ottawa. The service was super warm, welcome and inviting. For the mains, both dishes were exceptional. The seared duck magret and hanger steak were both cooked to perfection. They were both flavourful juicy with the nice vegetables and sauces. The matcha lime cake was absolutely superb.refreshing and unique, A dessert worth coming back for on its own.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Beckta Dining & Wine Our recent visit to Beckta was far more than just a meal—it was an experience full of grace, intention, and deeply meaningful hospitality. I surprised my aunts with an end-of-life bucket list road trip, and this dinner was a special part of that journey. Thanks to your extraordinary team, it became one of the highlights of her entire trip. To Clay Cardillo, Thank you for your thoughtful coordination and warmth. You made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived and were so kind in helping accommodate our special request. Your professionalism and genuine care were so appreciated and truly helped make the evening seamless and special. Also thank you for calling me to discuss accessibility. So wonderful there was an elevator in house!! To Bill, our server: You brought such kindness, charm, and attentiveness to our table. Your service struck the perfect balance of warm and respectful, celebratory yet comfortable. You made my aunt feel truly seen and celebrated, and I can’t thank you enough for that. To Kyle and Lukas, The food was absolutely exceptional—every plate was prepared with such care, balance, and flavour. Thank you for honouring our special request and adding a touch of pasta for my aunts. It may have seemed like a small gesture, but to both of them, it meant the world (me as well). That kind of attentiveness and personalization is rare and deeply appreciated. To the host who greeted us (I’m so sorry I didn’t get your name): Thank you for the warm and gracious welcome. Your energy helped set the tone for a beautiful evening, and we felt like we were in good hands the moment we stepped through the door. And to the entire Beckta team— Thank you for the beautiful birthday touch on my aunt’s parfait. It was thoughtful, elegant, and brought such joy to her face. That small moment added so much heart to an already unforgettable meal. My one aunt has since purchased a piece of artwork to remember this journey—a tribute to every person and place who helped bring her bucket list dream to life. Each of your names is now part of that piece, woven into the story of a trip full of kindness, grace, and unforgettable moments. Thank you for your hospitality, your heart, and your exceptional food. Beckta truly represents the best of what hospitality can be. With deep gratitude, Emily & Elaine & Laura

Food is the top of the top, traditional blended with something innovated. Duck Leg Confit is a must try! We love the staffs there, Sergio, Jocelyne, and all of them! They are professional, flexible, friendly, and most of all, fun! We certainly will return to Beckta in short future.

I was pleasantly surprised this time, significant improvement from previous times. The food was tasty and it was beautifully presented. The service was excellent and the venue is very beautiful and historic. I will definitely return.

Great night at Beckta. Some innovative dishes and some great flavours... service is very laid back which can make it slow but they are letting you call the shots.
Allan Z — Google review
I coordinated a group dinner for 30 people in the wine bar at Beckta early this October. From the beginning, all planning was done remotely as we were coordinating from Texas. I thought this would make things difficult, but to my surprise, it went very smoothly! Astrid got our request started for the space, and our organizer, Christine, was wonderful and made sure to check all details, allergies and food intolerances, and logistical items to make our dinner perfect. Our group (diverse and strongly opinionated foodies), were very happy with the food. They were particularly pleased by the range of meal options available in our prix fixe menu that made the dinner enjoyable for everyone (including one diner with 8 separate allergies). As we wrapped up, I received many comments about how great the dinner was this year and how it exceeded expectations. The service from planning to executing the in-restaurant experience was excellent. The team that served our group was friendly and organized. Everyone's drinks remained full, the timing of the courses was perfect, and the servers were unobtrusive but highly attentive. The only note we received was that the restaurant was a bit loud which made conversation at the tables a bit difficult, but our group has many older people, so I'm not sure how true this would be for others. Overall we had a great experience working and dining with Beckta!

La Bottega Nicastro, located in the ByWard Market, is a hidden gem for Italian food lovers. The store offers an impressive selection of fresh produce, self-serve olive and pickle section, coffees, chocolates, balsamic vinegar and olive oil at great prices. Additionally, it features a small eat-in lunch counter and deli with a sandwich and Illy espresso bar.
Ever since my wife discovered La Bottega, this store has become a regular part of our lives — and without any exaggeration, we’ve been shopping there every single week. It’s a true Italian gem in the city, offering authentic products straight from Italy. Every week, we buy prosciutto and Italian cheeses here. We especially love the blue cheese (I’m not exactly sure of the name, but the taste is unforgettable!). Normally, we go for the Canadian prosciutto, but today we made an exception and tried the Italian one — it’s saltier and, in our opinion, just a bit fattier, which makes it even more flavorful. We also picked up bocconcini cheese today — it was incredibly soft and delicious. The staff at La Bottega are always kind, helpful, and welcoming. It’s always a pleasure to shop there — they’re happy to offer suggestions and recommend the best options for your meals. Today’s visit was no exception — amazing service as always. Tomorrow we’ll be making pasta — part of our ongoing love for Italian cuisine. For the past six years, we’ve mostly been cooking with Italian pasta and olive oil — and La Bottega is where we get our olive oil too. Thank you, La Bottega, for the atmosphere, the quality, and for giving us a little taste of Italy every single week.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A True Taste of Italy — Ottawa’s Finest Italian Market! La Bottega Nicastro in the ByWard Market is, without a doubt, the best Italian store in the city. I’ve been going there for years, and my mom has been a loyal customer ever since it first opened — we’re talking nearly 30 years ago! It’s a true family tradition at this point. You can find anything and everything Italian here — from the finest olive oils, pastas, and sauces to an unbelievable selection of meats, cheeses, and pantry staples straight from Italy. The quality is consistently outstanding — everything they carry is top-tier, and you can truly feel the love and passion for what they do. It’s incredible how much they offer. Whether you’re after a DOP product, fresh cheeses, or artisanal goods you’d only expect to find in Italy, they’ve got it. You can not only pick up pastries, sandwiches, and ready-made foods, but also everything you need to make authentic Italian dishes at home — top-quality flours, an amazing selection of oils and vinegars, cookies, biscotti, amaretti, Nutella, jams, and preserves. Every visit feels like stepping into a true Italian marketplace — warm, vibrant, and overflowing with incredible flavors. An absolute gem for anyone who loves real Italian food and culture 🇮🇹✨

Woah super impressed by the size and price of the sandwiches. Ottawa can be notorious for high prices especially in byward but this joint has the right idea. Some of the freshest roast beef and Black Forest ham I’ve ever had.
Alexandra W — Google review
Delicious and authentic Italian and European produce. Signature sandwiches are still the best in town. Very affordable prices if you shop based on their biweekly flyers and also good opportunities to try out new items. The staff and owners are great and always a pleasure to interact with!

Absolutely wow!! Selection of olive oil, vinegars and pasta 😍 really good Italian wines out there too. Love this gem!

Have been coming to La Bottega in the Byward Market for more than a decade. It is a well managed family owned business with authentic Italian products, wide selection, and great prices. Whether it is grocery items (pastas, coffees, biscotti, olive oil etc.), cheeses and deli meats, or their freshly made paninis, you will always leave this store satisfied. Highly recommend La Bottega and will continue to support this Italian family-owned establishment. Bravo!

I used to live in Ottawa and this was my go-to lunch spot (the small restaurant at the back of the shop). I used to love sitting at the counter and chatting and watching things made. I came back over Easter break and unfortunately, there’s a snooty, arrogant chef in the kitchen now. Really ruined this gem for me. Pizza was subpar. The rest were so-so. Wish they brought back the home-style cooked Italian food.
Mlc — Google review
Shame on you how dare you scan people like this When you increase the price of your sandwiches we said okay inflation no problem. Now on top of inflating your sandwich prices you reduce the amount of me so much that is literally a line this is absolutely pathetic I'll never come back here again. Subway puts more meat than this scam garbage. Shame on you. Staff and groceries 10/10

It's also a popular brunch spot with an impressive drinks menu, offering creative cocktails like tamarind mojitos and soca caesars, as well as a variety of non-alcoholic options and teas. The restaurant has recently relocated to Beechwood Avenue, boasting simple yet elegant decor that complements the flavors of Venezuela and Spain.

Play Food & Wine is a chic yet relaxed restaurant with an open kitchen and a focus on small, shareable plates. Located in Ottawa's trendy Byward Market, this modern eatery encourages diners to enjoy 2-3 small plates for a complete meal rather than opting for traditional main courses. The menu features delectable options like Artisanal Cheese Plate, Charcuterie Plate, Grilled White Shrimp, Fried Tomatillo, and Gnocchi.
Yesterday, I had an incredible dining experience at Play Food and Wine! I just popped in to see if I could get a table, and the hostess was very kind and accommodating. Our waiter, Faye, was fantastic—always checking in and keeping our water glasses full. We started with the crispy Brussels sprouts with herb aioli, which were amazing. The hand-cut gnocchi and rabbit cavatelli were both outstanding as well. The grilled sourdough with caramelized butter was a must-have—absolutely to die for! We also tried the tofu and mushroom skewers, but I wasn’t a fan and wouldn’t order that again. The scallop ceviche was decent but could have been colder and had a bit more flavor. Overall, the atmosphere is lovely, and the service was top-notch. We didn’t have dessert this time, but I can’t wait to return and try more dishes! A must-try if you’re visiting Ottawa like us!

Service and atmosphere were both excellent here. The food was good, but I found the flavours of every dish we ordered too overpowering with too many competing flavours. I didn’t know what I was supposed to be tasting. Even the sourdough bread was overly flavorful - it was buttered and salted, and then we were supposed to add the caramelized butter on top of that. Felt like every dish was over seasoned. We ordered 6 dishes total, and I would say the pickerel was the best one. Interesting concept, but I think I would have liked it better if each dish showcased one or two flavours instead of 3-4.

Play is definitely one of the best spots in town to eat out, a rare blend of culinary creativity and technical skill. The food was simply spectacular, every dish a masterpiece in both taste and presentation. Bold flavors, balanced compositions, and precise execution made it clear the kitchen runs on pure talent. We had the Fennel ash gnocchi and Pork belly each plate an example of high level technique and thoughtful ingredient pairing. Visually stunning, texturally perfect in every bite. The service matched the kitchen’s excellence. Staff were attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu and moved with calm precision. Their seamless coordination and genuine warmth elevated the experience. Play delivers a refined yet approachable dining experience that sets a benchmark in the local restaurant scene. Make sure you get a reservation, we were lucky enough to walk in and score a table without wait.

It had been far too long since my last visit to Play, and after dining there again last night, I honestly do not know why, it was great. We enjoyed a beautifully balanced three-course Sunday menu that was fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully presented. Every dish felt well-composed and satisfying, making for a truly enjoyable dining experience. • It was my first time dining on the main level rather than upstairs, and I loved the change of scenery. Our table was tucked behind a wall of empty wine bottles, which offered just the right amount of privacy and a nice reprieve from the bustle of the dining room. The lighting was warm, inviting and perfect for conversation and a relaxed evening with friends. • The service was outstanding, friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and with just the right touch of humor. It really added to the experience and made the evening feel seamless from start to finish. • Overall, an excellent return to a restaurant that continues to deliver on food, service, and atmosphere. We will definitely be back and will not be waiting so long next time.

We ordered several dishes tonight and overall had a good experience. • Grilled sourdough – Excellent! The bread was warm and crusty, and the butter had a subtle coffee aroma and creamy texture — a lovely surprise. • Scallop ceviche – My favourite dish of the night! Refreshing, bright, and perfectly balanced — very appetizing and vibrant. • Squash soup & Seared Chinook salmon – Both had a curry masala-style flavor that wasn’t quite my preference; a bit too strong for my taste. • Grilled striploin – Nicely cooked, tender, and the sauce was a bit salty but very fresh-tasting overall. • Lemon cavatelli – Interesting and full of complex, layered flavors — rich yet balanced. • Concord grape ice cream – Disappointing. The nuts tasted old (not fresh), and the ice cream itself lacked freshness and flavor. The service was warm and attentive, and the dishes were beautifully plated. My favourites were definitely the scallops and the sourdough — both delicious and memorable. ⭐️ Overall: 7/10 — creative menu, great presentation, cozy atmosphere, though dessert could be improved.

Came for dinner by myself and everything was great. The food was paired perfectly with the wines. It looked great for sharing plates but there were several small enough for one person to try a few dishes. Desert is not to be missed, it was delicious. The service was attentive. The atmosphere was relaxed but beautiful

Wow! This chef can cook. My braised short rib was fantastic. Dessert will haunt me wanting more and wine was fabulous! This restaurant is a gem. It’s a must try when in Ottawa.

Wonderful restaurant at start of the Byward Market area. Two floors with, tables, bar and kitchen counter seating. An extensive wine list with plenty of foreign and local wines. Even an Australian wine 😁 The food is excellent, with pork belly and scallop ceviche being stand outs. The creme brulee was excellent and not to sweet. We sat at the kitchen counter and the Chefs gifted us a Strawberry Shortcake Cake dessert, which is hands down one of the best desserts I have eaten with Oolong Tea Ice cream and Lime Meringue it all just worked. Staff is friendly and service was excellent. We really enjoyed our visit.

Nestled on the historic Bank Street, CRAFT Beer Market Ottawa is a haven for craft beer enthusiasts. With an impressive selection of 100 beers on tap, visitors are bound to find something that tickles their taste buds. The venue not only serves fresh brews but also delicious food and hosts exciting events like Brewmasters Dinners and Oktoberfest celebrations.
The food was outstanding and the drinks were amazing. We had the pizza, sliders, veg sushi, tofu teriyaki bowl, margaritas and espresso martini. Service was great! We will be back! Loved the vegan options too!!

A good place to watch sports and get drinks with a group of friends. Lots of TVs around and a large beer menu. Food is a bit overpriced and bland. I got the Cajun prawn Alfredo pasta and the turtles dessert. There wasn’t enough sauce on the pasta and the cajun prawns were underwhelming. The vanilla gelato didn’t taste like vanilla…….it didn’t really taste like anything. There was suppose to be coconut ganache but it came with chocolate ganache which was overly sweet and kinda gross. I was really looking forward to the coconut ganache so that was disappointing. Overall, disappointing, and I wouldn’t come back.

Food isn’t great, can be improved a lot when compared with other restaurant’s around it. Service was good. Good for game nights. Despite being a great option for beers nothing can be served in large quieting only glass options.

Invited a group of friends for a quick bite before our social event, had an issue when seated I went to order my beverage of choice (ceaser) The server said the bar was really busy & forced me to order a beer. I would of left if I wasn't already seated with my group. I stood up in the middle of the establishmentment visibly upset trying to flag down a supervisor or manganger so I can order my ceaser & ask why I couldn't order this drink. They said it was no problem, pizza & nachos was pretty good, beer menu is outstanding but my service i received wasn't that great if I was alone I would of of made it clear with staff. Why would you ask me what I would like to drink then tell me I'm not able to order a ceaser. I would of left & took my business elsewhere if I was alone but didn't want to make a fuss infront of friends. Hopefully I get a more attentive server the next time I visit so I could give a better review. Thank you.

I had an amazing experience at Craft Beer Market in Ottawa! The atmosphere was lively, the food was great, and the beer selection was incredible but what really made the visit stand out was our server, Colin. Colin was hands-down one of the best servers I’ve ever had. He was extremely knowledgeable about all the beers on tap and took the time to explain the different styles, flavours, and brewing processes. Thanks to his recommendations, we ended up trying a few local options we might’ve otherwise missed and they were all fantastic. Beyond his knowledge, Colin was genuinely friendly, attentive, and made sure everything about our visit was perfect from start to finish. You can tell he really enjoys what he does and takes pride in giving guests a great experience. If you’re stopping by Craft Beer Market, definitely ask for Colin he’ll make your visit even better!

First time there after a RedBlacks game Very busy but great atmosphere. Our server Shauna was very attentive and provided great service . There was a problem in the kitchen with my order, but Shauna kept us updated frequently. The situation was rectified and the pizza was excellent! The manager, Jordan, was also very professional and he spoke to us personally. We highly recommend this place for great food and great ambiance!

Japanese restaurant
Sansotei Ramen is a laid-back restaurant in downtown Ottawa that offers a variety of modern Japanese noodle soup dishes and sides. It's known for its flavorful broth, bouncy noodles, and diverse ramen options. The straightforward menu makes it an efficient choice for a quick business lunch. You can choose between the original location or the sushi and sake bar for a more varied experience.
Had dinner here when we visited Ottawa, saw great reviews and thought it would be worth a try… it is! We ordered the Tonkotsu and the Tonkotsu Black. Great broth richness level, love it with the thin noodles. The Tonkotsu Black is my fave because it had a very rich garlicky flavour. We also ordered the gyoza, which was very nice. They’re a bit full during dinner time, you might have to wait a bit, but the service was so speedy. Think we got our ramen within 5mins after ordering. Would come back!

Tried this ramen spot recently and really enjoyed it! The broth was rich and flavorful, and the noodles had a great texture. The ambience is warm and inviting—perfect for a cozy meal. Service was friendly and attentive. My only gripe is that they only offer pork options—NO chicken or seafood, which limits choices for those with dietary preferences. Still, if you're a pork ramen fan, it's definitely worth a visit!
Anusha M — Google review
We’ve been coming to Sansotei Ramen for a long time and it never disappoints. My favourite is the Spicy Tantan, broth is rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with spice. The Miso Black is another great option, with a deep savory broth, garlic oil, and tender chashu that just melts in your mouth. Both bowls are consistently excellent, with noodles and eggs done just right. The sides are also worth ordering. The gyoza dumplings are solid, but the deep-fried chicken wings were amazing, crispy outside, juicy inside and packed with flavor. Overall, it’s a very small, cozy spot, which adds to the atmosphere and has become one of our go-to ramen spots.
Anthony — Google review
I decided to give this place a try after seeing its 4.7-star rating on Google Maps. Today was my first visit — and unfortunately, it will also be my last. I ordered the Tonkotsu Black Ramen and the Tomato Ramen. The noodles lacked the texture I expected, and the portion size was quite small for the price. The tonkotsu broth was completely overpowered by garlic, which made it hard to enjoy. What surprised me even more was the cleanliness — the booth seating along the wall was noticeably dirty. I didn’t expect this level of hygiene from a Japanese restaurant. Overall, it was a disappointing experience.

Absolutely amazing! If there’s one place in the city I can recommend it’s definitely here! Everything is absolutely to die for. The service was actually really quick I’ve heard it can be a long wait and it gets busy but I think we waited only like 15 or so minutes as a walk in. Service was really nice and friendly and once the food and drinks started coming out it was very very quick for that as well. I can’t wait to come back! Thank you so much.

I was in Ottawa for 2 hours. I needed lunch before heaving back to the airport. Ramen is always a great idea. Sanaotei was excellent. I had the Black Tonkotsu Ramen. Thin noodles. The noodles were 10/10 with a great chew factor while the broth was rich and delicious.
Scott T — Google review
I’ve been coming to Sansotei Ramen for quite some time, and it never disappoints. My personal favourite is the Spicy Tantan — the broth is rich, full of flavor, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of heat. It’s comforting yet exciting with every bite. Another standout is the Miso Black, which has a deep, savory broth accented by fragrant garlic oil and topped with chashu pork so tender it melts in your mouth. Both bowls are consistently well-executed, with noodles cooked to perfection and eggs that hit that golden, creamy sweet spot. The sides are definitely worth exploring as well. The gyoza dumplings are solid and satisfying, but the deep-fried chicken wings steal the show — crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor.

Shawarma Palace is a popular spot in Ottawa, known for serving the best shawarma in town. The platters are highly recommended over the wraps, offering generous portions of chicken, beef, or both along with sides like potatoes, rice, salad, hummus, and their standout garlic sauce. The restaurant also offers satisfying Arabic comfort food such as falafel.
I love Shawarma Palace ... my friends love Shawarma Palace ... and it's been the case for more than 20 years. We used to frequent their original location on Rideau Street, then this branch became our favorite ... but wherever you go, Shawarma Palace offers the same fresh food, the same flavors and the same excellent service. One thing they've mastered is the generous portion sizes ... no one else comes close ... one plate is enough for two people.

First time I see a big shawarma place. Usually these joints are small. This one is much bigger with comfortable seating. Falafel wrap and bowl was good. Drinks ok a bit costly. Lot of crowd in and out, seems a popular place. It is worth trying. Something vegetarian is available. Food is ok. They don't listen properly what customers want. The service was slow and the lady couldn't answer for extra plates.
Saravana P — Google review
Solid shawarma spot. Service was a little slow but it was busy and the wait was only about 10mins or so. The shawarma sandwich was tasty and fresh but a little on the small side for $10.95 but not a dealbreaker. The food was tasty but the place could be cleaned a little more often and there was very little English being spoken. But if you’re a shawarma fan this is a decent place to go. Would rate it 3.5/5. Good but not exceptional.

Incredible food! As someone who lives out of town I always stop by when visiting and sometimes grab a platter to take home before my flights. I’m not the biggest fan of the beef(more of a me thing), but the chicken is really good! I usually go for the all dressed chicken plate and ask to add baba ghanoush, sumac onions, and pomegranate molasses. Really tasty! Wraps and chicken salad are also very good. The place is also very clean and staff are nice.
Ahmed K — Google review
Always consistent, always delicious! Their shawarma plates are top quality and generously portioned. I really appreciate that they accommodated my dietary restriction — instead of rice, they gave me a full bed of potatoes, which was amazing. It’s rare to find that kind of flexibility and care. No notes — I’ll absolutely keep coming back :)

An Ottawa staple for good reason! The shawarma here doesn't disappoint, it's prepared fresh upon order with a broad assortment of sides and toppings available for both plates and wraps. The mixed shawarma plate is a highlight, and the staff do a great job at handling sometimes very busy lines and large orders. Give them a visit and check it out!

Overall, it's alright. It's pricey, and the food is hit or miss. The wrap was decent but the fries were inedible and coleslaw wasn't good. The beans are great and the chili as well but still too expensive. Best part is that it's open 24/7.

As a British guy travelling around Canada, I was craving a decent breakfast, and this place certainly delivered on that. This place is a gem, and well worth the walk from the tourist trap “coffee and croissant” cafes of Parliament Hill and downtown. Very welcoming servers, fantastic fresh cooked food, and generous portion sizes. As a well travelled Brit, I know a good breakfast joint, and this place is definitely it. I walked in, and waddled out, fed and very happy. Thanks guys.

Located in Ottawa, Canada, Johnny Farina is a relaxed Italian restaurant set in a former movie theatre. The eatery features dark-wood accents and offers a casual bar/lounge area as well as a more formal dining room. Guests can watch chefs prepare wood-fired pizzas and hand-rolled gnocchi in the open plan kitchen. The menu includes classic Italian entrees, flavorful pizzas, and generous portions.
Excellent food, unfortunate service but I will be back! Johnny Farnia, is an excellent restaurant. The food was our favourite during our time in Ottawa. The prices were reasonable, large portions, bread for the table and the dinning area was large and clean. We order the Suppli that was on special as an appetizer. For the entrees we had the steak and gnocchi and the chicken Parmesan. The steak was perfect! During our visit, although the staff was very friendly and nice - we did have 3 different waiters during our visit and very long wait times between courses, water refills, and the bill. It may have been a flux but worth noting. Definitely make this restaurant a stop on your next trip to Ottawa!

I love how this place looks! It’s spacious enough to accommodate small work events, which makes it a great spot for gatherings. I only ordered an appetizer, but it was absolutely delicious. My colleagues who had pasta and pizza also commented on how tasty their meals were. Service was okay, but quick during busy lunch hour.

Emily P, the waitress was wonderful as well as the gentleman that brought the shrimp linguini (I didn’t catch his name unfortunately). The vibe was wonderful as well as Emily’s. The patio was really nice, it was right next to the street and the vibe was great. The shrimp linguini was cooked to perfection. The shrimp tails came off perfectly without being ripping half the shrimp. The garlic was still aromatic.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4.5/5 Delicious food and great atmosphere – highly recommended! I went to Johnny Farina for dinner and tried several dishes: Stella pasta with grilled chicken on the side, Caesar salad, arancini rice balls, and zucchini fries. Every single dish was incredible—finger-licking good! • The pasta was full of flavour • The grilled chicken was extremely juicy and tender • The zucchini fries were super crispy • The arancini were rich and perfectly cooked This restaurant knows how to deliver on taste! Service: The only area they could improve is the speed of service. We had to wait a bit too long at different intervals to be attended to. However, the staff were friendly once they came around. Atmosphere & Experience: The ambiance was warm, lively, and perfect for dinner. One thing that really impressed me was that they actually paid attention to the notes I added to my reservation. They even brought out a tiramisu (a generous portion!) completely on the house, which was such a thoughtful touch. Overall: Amazing food, great vibes, and attention to detail. If they improve service speed a bit, this would easily be a 5-star spot. I would definitely recommend Johnny Farina to anyone visiting Ottawa!

I won't be returning to this run of the mill Italian restaurant; it was a rather forgettable experience. The supposed Italian restaurant committed a culinary crime by serving room temperature meatballs, instantly transforming a highly anticipated meal into a dismal and unappetizing experience. The so-called pomodoro sauce was a watery, insipid disgrace, tasting precisely like it was dumped straight from a bargain-bin tin, utterly untouched by even the faintest whisper of a proper simmer or any actual culinary effort. The Caesar drink was an absolute triumph, boasting a perfectly balanced kick of spice that danced on the tongue and awakened the senses, proving to be the sole redeeming feature of an otherwise dismal experience.
Sheldon C — Google review
Unfortunately, this was a disappointing experience. We were seated in the furthest corner of the restaurant, right next to the stairs (think Harry Potter). When we were seated, my friend got a glass of iced water. I got tap water in a cup that looked like it had already lived a full life. No ice, just vibes and suspicious stains. The bread and olive oil were served sloppily, with oil spilling over the plate, and my friend’s plate had to be replaced because it wasn’t clean. Salad was good, pizza was mid. Save yourself. There are better Italian restaurants in Ottawa.

Went there on my first evening in Ottawa which was on a Saturday. I ordered the Diavolo which was delicious. As was the Gelato for dessert. Service was quick, super friendly and very enthusiastic. Jayden made me feel welcome. It was a bit noisy, did not bother me though. I'd go there again. As a matter of fact, I did go there again a few days later. And probably will go there again. 😅

Open seven days a week, with 24-hour service on Thursday through Sunday, it offers a variety of delicious options such as Northern Fried Chicken Benny, sour cream pancakes, King Eddy omelet, and the vegetarian King Portobello brunch plate.
Really good food, great service. We ordered the classic Poutine and The King Eddy Burger with 3 chicken pieces on the side and it was so good. The chocolate shake with Guinness and Baileys was INCREDIBLE - I think I’m gonna go back to get another tomorrow. Portion sizes are a little big but the waitress asked if we wanted boxes to take it home before we even asked for one. Very attentive and friendly staff. Was really busy outside due to the lovely weather today but we managed to get a great seat indoors anyway - lots of space!

I recently visited this brunch spot and was genuinely impressed by the food — especially the salmon eggs Benedict. It was perfectly executed: the salmon was fresh and flavorful, the poached eggs were just the right consistency, and the hollandaise sauce was rich without being overpowering. It’s clear the kitchen takes pride in their dishes, and it definitely shows in the quality of the food. However, the customer service left something to be desired. While the staff wasn’t rude, they seemed somewhat disinterested and inattentive. We had to flag someone down a couple of times for refills and to get the check, which took longer than expected. There was little engagement or warmth from the servers, which was disappointing given the inviting atmosphere and great food. All in all, I’d return for the salmon Benedict alone — it really is that good. But I do hope they work on elevating the service to match the excellence coming out of the kitchen.

Amazing food one of my go to diners, so much flavour in the fried chicken, better than KFC! The service i got from one of my server wasn't that great left me unsatisfied, to the point where I had to beg for a new server, she was even rude to the other servers, great food & milk shakes I now know which server to avoid if I really want to enjoy myself! Food was decent, though quite expensive, but it's in Byward Market so it is what it is! Patio was quite nice and not too busy in the morning, but seemed to have lots of regulars that enjoy it. Eggs Benedict was tasty, and portions were good. Coffee was sub par, but passable. Inside looks like it has been redone and it looks quite sharp in there.

I had to build my own breakfast since there were no vegan options (which is totally fine) but got charged $4.50 for HALF of a small avocado? I also work in customer service, so I understand waiters make no decisions about the prices - but I feel something could have been done. My $26 meal was genuinely not very much either: a few home fries, one piece of unbuttered toast, half of a small avocado and two measly slices of tomato, which I then assembled myself to make a breakfast sandwich (I wish I had taken a pic) My friend paid less and got double the food I had (plus he had protein). Please consider charging less for makeshift meals… the prices did not match up with the amount of food I received and as a first time costumer, I was quite disappointed.

I ordered 250 egg rolls for a fundraiser and was incredibly impressed! The team was so accommodating and professional throughout the entire process. The egg rolls were absolutely delicious, everyone loved them! I highly recommend this place for any event or gathering. Great service and amazing food!

Extremely disappointed and outrageous ripped off. The portion of the food was very small for the price. I still give 3 stars for the food because of egg rolls even though it was soggy when we got it still tastes good but overall experience was horrible. I place a takeout order and I was surprised how fast it was served. I understand how bad the inflation right now but the value for money in this restaurant was unbelievable. $41 worth of food. Chicken fried rice was bland and dry (probably left over) same with the chow mien that looks like just reheated in microwave.Just order EGG ROLLS only so you won’t be disappointed.

The Palace may have lost some of its shine. While on a short trip to Ottawa, some friends and I dropped in to have some of their famous Egg Rolls and were…pretty disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, they’re still good. They’re still fairly tasty. But if I’d never had them before I would think, meh, they’re alright. They had an oddly watery taste to them, and were just so-so. We also ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken balls that were dry chicken chunks covered in a chewy batter and some indescribable sauce. The General Tao’s chicken we had was the exact same thing but spicier. The Chicken Fried rice was good, but we had a noticeably smaller serving than a table close to us. Consistency is key. All of this was about $90 after taxes. Considering its lackluster quality, I didn’t leave feeling satisfied. Is it possible that we were there on an off day? Maybe. I don’t know if I’d return again to find out.

I was so shocked to open my containers from here especially from Golden Palace. They are always rated #1 but not too sure what happened today, I did takeout and got Soo Guy asked well done but as you will see in the picture, 1. Not a full container, 2. Slimy, 3. Not well done at all. I paid over $80 for rice, chicken balls, soo guy, beef and broccoli plus 4 egg rolls just too be very disappointed. I find they are going down hill but raised prices.
Stastin B — Google review
This container WAS full before I took the photo, however it was full in the proportions you see. We ordered chicken broccoli no idea why I paid so much for mostly celery. Also the chicken, and beef (other dish) is not marinated and is tough, not tender. I'll never order here again.
Spencer — Google review
Not worth the money! We paid $85 for bland food, we ordered a take away, shrimp chop suey has two tiny shrimp in it, beef and broccoli had more celery almost half the container. The only tasty thing was egg rolls. I’m so disappointed with the food and will definitely NOT be back!!
Beatha — Google review
We ordered takeout tonight and were quite disappointed. The total came to almost $100, but the amount of food we received felt more like $45 worth. The chow mein was mostly bean sprouts with very few noodles. The chop suey tasted good, but the shrimp portion was very small, maybe 10 pieces total, likely from just three shrimp that were cut up. The beef and broccoli was decent, and the black bean beef was okay. We had to make our own rice at home. The four containers we received were just enough to fill the two of us, along with the egg rolls we ordered, which were actually the best part of the meal. I ate at this restaurant in person last summer and loved it, the food was abundant and delicious. Unfortunately, the takeout experience was the opposite: small portions and mediocre overall. Very disappointing for the price.
Patrick P — Google review
Shame on you Lucky Key.Takeout egg rolls were very good. The spare ribs were reheated many times and probably leftovers. Dark black, impossible to chew in small pieces with lots of gristle. The soft noodle dish was mostly pasta that stuck together, almost no sauce, with few pieces of pork and beef. Mostly celery and a bit of broccoli. I live 25 minutes away. Not like the food was sitting in the containers for very long. Glue or paste is what we had to eat. While I was waiting there was only one eat in customer with partner. So why did she have to ask them to reheat her rice dish. Don’t waste your money because they don’t seem to care. Shane! Shame!

Pure Kitchen Elgin, located at 374 Bank Street in Ottawa, is a popular spot for veggie lovers and health-conscious diners. The restaurant offers a vibrant weekend brunch menu with creative dishes like grateful granola bowl, terrific avocado toast, banana bread french toast, and magical huevos rancheros. Owners Kyle and Olivia are passionate about health, lifestyle, community, and quality ingredients.
Delicious wholesome spot! A great casual spot for gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan food. I chose the awesome burger and cheesecake, both were delicious and super pleased with the allergen free options. A little on the pricey side especially with modifications, but still super enjoyable! There was only 1 server helping the whole floor, but she was very warm and attentive.

I heard good things about this restaurant and I had vegetarian options so I thought I would check it out. Overall, it was decent, but the service was a bit lacking. I had the ignite bimbap bowl, I enjoyed it. I found the kimchi quite nice. But I would’ve liked some more tofu. It may be a bit more variety in the bowl. My partner had the Tempeh sandwich and thought it was OK but nothing special. I would attribute the slow service to them probably being quite busy, but would recommend they have more servers. A decent option for vegetarians and vegans.

We were able to enjoy the great weather on the sidewalk patio. Arrived just after 1pm for lunch and it was nice and quiet. The service was great and we enjoyed the “Liberty” with fries and the chickpea sandwhich with kale chips. The total came to about $50.

For brunch today I enjoyed the Snooze Loaded Potato Pillows and holy cow, these potatoes are FIRE. They're crunchy on the outside and silky in the middle. All the flavors they managed to pack into the hearty bowl worked so well together and I left satisfied. I typically leave brunch feeling over-full but it was the perfect amount of food. Also the chai here is soooooooo gooood I considered getting another cup. Everything was yummers 10/10! Awesome service too. Thanks a lot :)

First time trying this place. Heard a lot about it so I was ready for anything. I ordered a juice, the cauliflower wings and the noodle bowl. Service was great. Our server was very nice and always checked in on us during lunch. Atmosphere - well the place is a bit blah inside with very little decor but the outside patio would have been a great option if the afternoon sun had subsided a bit more. After 2 pm the patio is in shade so I would suggest outside if the weather is nice. Food. Well the juice I ordered was amazing. But pretty hefty for $12 for a medium glass… but I felt it was worth it. The cauliflower wings were really good, but after about 7-8, all you can taste is the cauliflower, even with all the sauces offered (we got them on the side), so share plate for sure. Would not want to eat those all myself The noodle bowl was not great. Completely inundated with peanuts and peanut sauce. The rice noodles ended up mushy and the only solid component in the dish was the kale…. which given its texture did not go with this “Asian” dish. And the tofu was not grilled enough and was also mushy. I should have stuck something more traditional. But I should have known better. Like ordering pad Thai in a bar… nope. My friend ordered a bean burger and that was delish. Bun was grilled so nicely and the fries were amazing. Should have gone burger. I’m willing to try again, but something chose something else.

Outstanding hospitality from the moment we entered the door. Clean open feeling dinning room, friendly bar area, and fantastic outdoor seating options in the patio. Excellent menu choices and we had some very nicely prepared cocktails. I was happy to see all of our hot entrees were "run" to our table quickly, they arrived hot, were carefully plated, and the portions were surprisingly large. Overall a really solid restraunt, staffed by a professional capable team, and the experience was spot on. Just what we wanted. I would give Pure Kitchen my highest recommendation.

Nestled away from the city's hustle and bustle, Oz Kafe is a charming hideaway that invites you to unwind in its intimate setting. With cozy leather booths and soft lighting reminiscent of a hidden nook from an old book, this European-style café offers a delightful escape. The menu features an eclectic array of seasonal dishes made with locally sourced ingredients, catering to both vegetarian and vegan diets.
Absolutely love the service and ambiance! They have a gorgeous courtyard patio and our server was friendly and helpful and super fun to chat with. We shared a charcuterie board and then got the steak, pork, and mushrooms as mains. A few notes, I didn’t love the salmon pate, it had a strong taste of something other than salmon, little disappointing there is only 1 mushroom skewer, and the butter compound on the steak I found was too salty for my taste. Otherwise we had a really lovely evening as a group of friends. Would definitely recommend for a large or small group.

Made a confirmed reservation for 10 people months prior but it wasn’t noted to the restaurant staff… thankfully they were able to accommodate us! Food and drinks were tasty. Steak was cooked perfectly and the panna cotta was the perfect sweet treat. There’s a 20% automatic gratuity for large groups. Entrance can be tricky to find (the courtyard within the courtyard) but the space itself was nice.

Came here for dinner this evening, I was suprised how quiet the restaurant was because the food was fantastic. I got the Risotto appetizer and steak main course, both were amazing such a tender steak. I was on the fence for desert but got the lemon mascarpone ice cream and could not have been happier with how creamy the ice cream was! Highly reccomend checking out for yourself great spot for special occasions or date nights.

The setting/atmosphere of this restaurant is romantic, quaint, and comfortable while also trendy. The staff was welcoming, and informative of menu items and wine selections. Food was ON POINT!! Highly recommended!

Went for a friend's birthday on a Monday evening. There was an issue with the reservation but the staff was very kind and helpful in putting together a table for our group of ~10! Ambiance was nice and the food was good - got the pea risotto and the panna cotta dessert. Entrance can be tricky to find in the courtyard.

I came here based on all the reviews, and it was a bit of an adventure figuring out where it was, I had to go into the back alley of a back alley to find Oz, but it was well worth it and more. I'm from Toronto, land of the mean Canadians, so having such nice service everywhere I go in Ottawa has been a bit of a shock. That being said, our server Kevin (and another gentleman by the end of the evening, unfortunately didn't get his name) were the best servers I've had this week, both charismatic and informative without being too overbearing. There was a party happening upstairs this evening so we were warned that food service may be a little slow to arrive. Despite the warning, it didn't take too long for food to arrive at all. And the food? It was damn well delicious. Best dinner I've had in my short week in Ottawa, and all the food I've had here has absolutely banged! My Grilled Enright Beef was the perfect end to my trip, cooked just as I ordered and deceptively filling. I was cutting my steak into smaller pieces just so I wouldn't be done with it so soon. Even with the upstairs party going on, the ambiance is excellent, and the scene is welcoming and diverse. Felt right at home at Oz Kafe and you would as well. Highly highly recommend! If Ottawa keeps treating me this good I might have to find work here and ditch dusty Toronto, damn!

Pre Covid prices do exist for market modern food. Had a great summers evening supper at Oz Cafe. Only been once before at the older Elgin location. Which also left me very impressed. They continue their habit of an off the beaten path location. Took a couple turns to find the new location which is close to other popular market restaurants. Nice atmosphere of the heritage buildings. Appetizers were both big on quantity and flavour. Main course. The pork chop stole the show. Look at how much protein you receive ! Desserts were yummy. Maybe needed just one for 3 of us. Will visit again. A hidden gem in ottawa.

The ambience and food was truly delicious! The pork tenderloin.. one of the best dish I’ve had in a while, everything on that plate was very very delicious. i especially loved the corn. The cocktail, and the appetizer were also nice. The servers were friendly, and I can definitely see myself visiting here again.

My first time coming to this local restaurant and impressed! Liked the food and the venue. Ordered summer rolls, rice and salmon curry! Both were yum. Staff were nice! Waiting time is a bit of a concern but the quality of the food worth the wait! Probably will come to try something different!

Was grateful to find an opened establishment on Christmas Day. Walked in and was quickly seated at a table of our choice. The place was decorated for the holidays which created a cozy & warm ambiance. The service was good, they were short staffed so the food did take longer to arrive at the table but the host would come by and keep us updated as we waited. The general Tao was tasty, the rice that accompanied it competed the dish. This chicken was perfectly crispy and had the right amount of sauce. The only thing was that the chip that the chicken was presented on was deep fried in oil which may have been used to fry other items as it gave a off-putting taste. However, the main part of dish was tasty. The chicken teriyaki arrived sizzling! The flavour itself was tasty & the portions was great. Overall, I recommend it! The menu featured a variety of dishes which were unique.

I think kitchen is the bottle neck: very slow. We and other customers came in, the waiters are friendly and nice, and doing their best. But the kitchen was so slow that we waited for almost an hour to get the food.
Hayden C — Google review
Food was made from obviously old ingredients, especially the potatoes. The eggs had multiple pieces of egg shell, and the price of the rice dish was way too much for size and quality($26). The breakfast had free coffee, but it wasn't any good, although not terrible at least. Only the fruit side was fresh. I complained, and got a verbal apology, but nothing was done to correct it. The waiters were friendly, but the food took forever and there were only two tables of customers on a Saturday at noon. I highly recommended against dining here.

Edit: returned a second time a few months ago and the service was absolutely horrible. The wait was over an hour and when the food finally arrived, portions of our order were missing. Such a shame this place deteriorated so spectacularly. Original review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent breakfast sandwiches! We had the bagel and the english muffin combos which each came with some potatoes and a coffee. This is the perfect portion size for breakfast. Really tasty, great value, service was fast, and the owner was very friendly. Would recommend 🙂

Had a late Saturday night dinner. It was great service, and very tasty dishes. Not sure what happened to my appetizer, I didn't know there was problem, until I got an extra pint of beer to apologize. That is great service. If you order for delivery, use the GetItLocal app. Worth visiting or ordering.

Overall, the place seemed very authentic and food right on par with the real stuff in Thailand. We came here around 8pm so the dinner rush was well past and we were seated very quickly. We ordered tom yum soup and the chicken dumplings as appetizer and both were very good. For our entrees, we got the peanut chicken and pad thai chicken and again both very flavorful and well-portioned. My pad thai was not served with a lime wedge but they quickly got that and also was not spicy at all. Thai food in general is spicy and that is one of the essential components of the dish. Yes this is North America and people can't handle spice like Thai's but at least ask your customer what level of spicy they would like. They came back with a chili-based hot sauce which redeemed the situation. I can't speak too much to the peanut chicken but the sauce was fill of flavor and the crispy spinach surrounding the dish was something we have never experienced, definitely worth a try. Our waitress made sure we had everything we needed and regularly visited our table but could have been due to lack of people in the restaurant. The restaurant itself is clean and modern but it definitely looks a bit cramped at some spots, I wouldn't want to sit at the tables in the middle of the room where there is a live bamboo tree right beside you with it's leaves pretty much on your table. Bathrooms were well kept as well. Great place to go and amid the minor things on the food, deserves the 5 stars!

I have been coming here for decades, so the staff knows me well. One of my favourite dishes is the chicken chow mein with black bean sauce, and it was made to perfection, with just the right amount of sauce so the noodles weren't overly dry. Highly recommended!

Great place to eat. Eggrolls and dimsum were awesome. Main course was perfect. Friendly service all around!
Roy S — Google review
We visited this restaurant on the way back to Toronto after visiting Quebec. The food was delicious. The style of the cuisine tasted new but joyful, with a balanced mix of southern Chinese and Szechuan. I found the food was kind of nostalgic which was interesting, it reminded me of my childhood, besides the vintage and cozy inside the restaurant. We all like spicy food so we asked the cook to make the food hot, but it wasn’t so hot although it was still yummy. I think the style is way more closer to Cantonese with a pinch of northern Chinese flavour when it came to this aspect- but it means it is recommendable for people who aren’t a big fan of strong taste. Moreover the owner lady was so kind and generous. If you want to eat food that warms up both your heart and stomach, this place is for you :)

Had dim sum there. Typical prices. Siu mai seemed smaller than what you get at other places (thinking the old Mandarin Ogilvie). Eggplant were big pieces. Service was great. Tho they got one of the dishes wrong and kindly replaced it and acknowledged the error. Lucky to be able to park at the back as street parking was busy.

Huge menu with attentive smiling service. I was there to accommodate a fussy young adult and the order of General Tso Chicken and Pepper Beef with Singapore Noodle fit the bill for dinner for two plus enough extra for another meal at home. The decor is spartan but clean. Egg Rolls were ordered, I wish I could say they were stuffed with bean sprouts but sadly, they were not. On the plus side they weren’t stuffed with cabbage. A nice place for authentic Chinese food. I’d definitely return.

Ordered these cupcakes, first off there was mold on all the raspberries on the 3 cupcakes that had raspberries on them, the cupcakes were extremely dry and I ate them on the day I ordered them, very flavourless as well, and the icing also very flavourless, for 45 dollars for 12 cupcakes I expected slightly better quality I’ve had better cupcakes from the grocery store taste better then these. I’ve included photo of the mold!

The decor is mediocre and cold, especially if one is looking to sit and enjoy a hot drink with their partner, I wouldn't recommend it. However the cappuccino was a great blend and the cheese cake cherry dessert was delicious! The quiche was okay. I want to try other favourites they have. I must also mention that I appreciated the efficient service.

We were driving through Manotick and decided to stop here. Super cute little place, bought a few baked goods but our favourite was the crack cookie and the fresh cinnamon rolls. The cinnamon rolls were soft without feeling too chewy like undercooked and not dry at all. Will definitely be back! They have lots of goodies and gluten free dessert options too.

I have not eaten in person but have bought numerous cakes and deserts. The cakes as they are 3 layers are not spongy soft as they need structure but omg they are delicious. I buy these cakes exclusively to bring to events and the single serve deserts like cookies, brownies, tarts are devine. This is my go to for any occasion that I want to impress. I have bought both customized and off the shelf, never disappointed. My staff at work are always looking for a reason for me to bring cake to a staff meeting. Yang Sheng Chinese Restaurant is a charming, family-run restaurant that serves up authentic Cantonese and Szechuan dishes in a relaxed setting. The restaurant is located within walking distance of many popular attractions, making it perfect for tourists or anyone looking for a delicious meal.
We had the Casserole rice with pork ribs and chicken, the pork ribs is more tasty! You will need to call in to order ahead of time so you don’t need to wait for too long as they take a long time to cook. It’s pretty good with crispy rice at the bottom which we love! All other dishes are reasonable.

Couldn’t decide where to eat after a long day out. Instead of fast food, we headed to Chinatown to look for a spot to eat. The food and service were very good. A lot of food for the price. If we lived in the area we’d give it another visit.

Bang for your buck no doubt. Service is great, staff are super pleasant and the decor looks nice too. While the portions are enormous and filling—the food tastes decent but nothing more. The shrimp in their dishes taste flat/flavourless and for some reason the duck doesn’t (or at least didn’t when I visited) come warm/hot like everything else. But I guess when you think about how much it costs you can’t really complain about these slight shortcomings. (I’m a repeat customer btw, the food is a lot! for that price lol)

One of the best Chinese restaurants in Ottawa. Grew up in South East Asia and spent much time in New York City, Washington DC, and Toronto. Was dismayed by the quality of Chinese ethnic food in Ottawa when I moved here for work. Good thing I found this place. Great and fresh food at reasonable prices. The barbeque pork is amazing. Love their selection of noodles. Dim Sum is quite good too. Friendly service.

Ottawa Chinatown is not a really a (Chinatown), it's more like a residential area compared to others CT that you had visited elsewhere before. Chinese shops and restaurants are very low in density and they are mostly situated along a short main road which is barely around 1km or even less maybe? Some of them had already moved out and the empty shop seems to be left vacant for quite some time.. Anyway just went on to dine at this Yang Sheng Chinese restaurant by chance since there weren't many other choices. No doubt the portion of the food was generous which was expected but the taste is way below standards. The braised beef with carrot Claypot is too salty.. White carrot was used instead of the red ones and with the white carrot having a weird (raw like chlorine) taste doesn't help at all... The beef color is very pale which explains how badly the meat are prepared which should not be like this for a braised beef hotpot. The omelete with Char siu(芙蓉蛋叉烧)was not nice also, it does not have the (Wok Hei) that how this dish supposed to had. Furthermore the dish was served with a funny and sticky brown salty sauce poured over it. It was the weirdest 芙蓉蛋 I had ever tasted. Overall experience: Economic and stomach filling restaurant to visit if you are easy on the taste and quality.

Lived in Ottawa for over 20 years, but never been to Yang Sheng restaurant. Today I order a congee dish and dim sum dish from SkpTheDishes, wow, the flavor of the dishes just blew me away, really decent authentic! Packaging could be better, but food was delicious. Definitely a recommend! Update [2022-09-03]: we had dined in this restaurant a few times now, and it did not disappoint! The dishes are honestly just like home cooked meals, using fresh ingredients, nothing fancy but very hearty and delicious! Staff was very friendly, they are like your neighborhood aunties and uncles that always tell you to eat more. Very warm feeling.

Both excellent in flavour and the in house made waffle cone was the best I ever had. Very crispy and light. So good! I wish I had more time to check out the other part of the menu too. Would have to come back next trip!

Tasty flavours! Not as rich, creamy and sweet like some other ice cream places. I think some newcomers too Moo Shu could be taken aback by that. My favourites are the Calico Chocolate, Blueberry Amaretto and Lime Leaf. The HK milk tea, Dalgona and Local Strawberry are you there on the list. I've tried a lot of the flavours over the years and would only ever not get a scoop of the French Onion. That one was a little crazy for me. Way more oniony than expected. Bubble waffles are worth a try. I also like their holiday scoops when they make little reindeer. Service is consistently just okay for me. Nothing special and nothing bad. Lukewarm might be the best way to describe it?

What a boring place and location! This place has no outside signs or add (except one little signs on the side of the building), the inside colors are worst than a hospital and the menu display on wall without pictures. Seriously if your depress you will be even worst after a visit there! But at the end it's looks like kids was happy with their ice cream choice. Guys you have to do something for the first impression, I will never go back there.

Went here on my most recent trip to Canada. We got the bong Kong milk tea and white rabbit scoops. They were both really good flavors. The only negative thing was that it kind of left a bit of a waxy coating in my mouth. The flavor list was very unwise which I liked and the ice cream itself was very smooth. Overall it was a good experience :)

Several vegan ice cream flavours (scoops, waffle cone, dipped and icecream sandwiches). Kids scoop available. Vegan Dalgona flavour is pretty good. The vegan waffle cone is pretty good as well. Next time I’ll try the bruléed vegan icecream sandwiches. They offer free tap water at their water station.

Vietnamese coffee & brownie ice cream sandwich - brownie texture had a nice chew and fudge flavor & the coffee ice cream wasn’t too strong and still flavorful. Generous size (you could probably share this with someone) Delicious! This was close to $10 CAD - pretty average ice cream price and worth it IMO.

This was on our must-try list in Ottawa, and we were not disappointed. They offer gluten-free waffle cones as well as a variety of vegan ice cream options. We ordered two waffle cones: Hong Kong Milk Tea with Vegan Black Sesame, and Hong Kong Milk Tea with White Rabbit. We were blown away by how authentic the Hong Kong Milk Tea and White Rabbit flavors tasted — exactly what we would expect from the real thing. It was a wonderful homage to these iconic Asian flavors. The vegan black sesame was creamier than expected but still delicious. Overall, it was a fantastic sweet treat — the ice cream was authentic, high quality, and full of flavor. We paid around $20 for two cones, which was on the pricier side, but the quality made it worth it. Definitely worth a visit.

The peach ice cream and waffle cone were amazing. I wasn't a fan of the "Grandma's House" ice cream fllavour. But would give a 4.5 rating if I could.

Sabai Thai Cuisine offers a variety of traditional meals as well as vegetarian options in a cozy dining room adorned with mirrors and art. This review, although delayed, praises the restaurant for its delicious and generously portioned dishes. The meals are described as creamy with just the right amount of spice to tantalize the taste buds. The reviewer intends to order from Sabai Thai again due to their enjoyable experience.
I have no words to describe how delicious and deep their food is. So much flavour, I could eat their food every day! And very affordable pricing, and clean restaurant. Thank you Saba Thai for the halal menu, we really really appreciate that! Will definitely be back (everyday if I could)! Mouth watering - that’s the words, delicious!!!

Ordered delivery through uber eats for lunch. While the green curry and spring rolls were good, the Pad Siew that we ordered was burnt. Black pieces on the noodles and vegetables. Quite disappointing considering we ordered well within their lunch hours.
Tiana C — Google review
I love Thai food and have it frequently. I have been to this restaurant multiple times, but unfortunately, the quality and service seem to keep getting worse over time. Today was October 10 (this date matters later). We went for lunch as a family. My wife ordered Thai tea, and my daughter ordered a mango juice for $3.50. When the drinks arrived, my daughter started drinking hers. My wife tried the juice and said it tasted awful. I tasted it too. It was terrible and moldy. We checked the can, and the expiry date was May 4. We told the waitress, “Sorry, this juice is really off. It’s expired.” She took it without surprise. We then heard someone in the back say, “Just give them another one. Give them the lychee one.” We politely said, “Thank you, but please cancel the juice.” Our food arrived. My dish was fine, not as good as it used to be, but acceptable. My wife’s yellow curry was decent. Then came our daughter’s pad Thai. Being cautious after the juice incident, we tasted it first. It also tasted off. My wife and I love pad Thai and have tried it at most places in Ottawa. This one tasted strange, as if the chicken was undercooked or had gone bad. We hesitantly told the waitress that the pad Thai didn’t taste right. We never send food back, so this felt awkward. She didn’t seem thrilled but took it back and said they would make it again. Two minutes later, the same plate came back warmer and drenched in extra sauce. We tried it again, but it was still off. We told our daughter not to eat it. The full plate sat on the table. The waitress never checked if it was any better. When we got the bill, they charged us fully for the pad Thai. We were too shy to argue, so we paid for a dish that wasn’t edible. This was our last time here. If you care about your health and love Thai food, try somewhere else. We certainly will. P.S. We paid $5.50 for the shrimp rolls (you get two rolls). As you can see in the pictures, it wasn’t even de-veined! It is really gross. We didn’t eat that either.

Amazing Thai joint at the west end. They do have all the authentic Thai dishes and are quite flavourful. It's family run and the folks are friendly and hospitable. All items on the menu are Halal, so they cater to a few demographics. Keep it up guys!

Nice homy atmosphere. Food was very flavorful. Service was fast and efficient. Great for lunch.

Amazing spot for Thai food especially if you're Muslim. All the meat served is halal. They've removed pork from the menu to prevent accidental cross contamination. Their food is delicious. The lady working there was very friendly and patiently explained the menu selection to us and offered recommendations. Since the food is made fresh, the spice level can be adjusted and substitutions made within reason. We had their fresh wraps to start followed by a noodle and curry dish as the entrees. Definitely recommended.
Taha Z — Google review
Just a note to start off with...not sure if their kitchen ventilation was broken but the restaurant was very smokey so not the most pleasant when dining in. So on to the food....the flavors are very good however I feel that they may have changed the "recipes" a bit to cater to the North American palate meaning the dishes were a tad sweeter than I would have liked. Had the Papaya Salad (very good), Green Curry with Chicken (very good) and Shrimp Pad Thai (too sweet). All in all, it was a good experience. If you're craving some Thai food, this place will satisfy that craving but if you're looking for more authentic Thai then I wouldn't say this place is it. On a side note, the service was really good....our waitress was super friendly and efficient. Enjoy.

Sabai Thai Cuisine was a delightful experience from start to finish. The food was exceptional, offering a fusion of authentic flavors that truly impressed. The customer service matched the quality of the dishes, ensuring a pleasant dining atmosphere. Opting for the combo option was a win-win—the variety provided at such an affordable price was fantastic. The mango salad stood out as a highlight, showcasing the freshest ingredients and perfect balance of flavors. Additionally, the availability of ample seating and convenient parking outside the shop made the entire experience hassle-free. For anyone seeking delicious Thai cuisine with great service and convenient amenities, Sabai Thai Cuisine is definitely worth a visit.

If you're on the hunt for a reliable Chinese take-out experience, look no further than Hing Lung Chinese Food. This beloved Ottawa establishment has been delighting locals for over 32 years with its classic dishes like Sichuan chicken and egg foo yong. The warm, family-friendly atmosphere makes it a go-to spot for many, especially when craving something comforting to enjoy during a cozy night in. Hing Lung is known not just for its delicious food but also for its reasonable prices and generous portions.
Absolutely amazing food and on-time takeout service! The wonton soup is really good here along with the General Tso Chicken and House Chicken Pad Thai. Will be coming back!

I ordered food from here on their website (because they state that as a preference to other food delivery apps). I scheduled the delivery for 3 hours after I had placed the order. The delivery was 30 minutes late. I called at the 15 minute mark and asked where it was and had been told the delivery driver was on his way. I called again when he was 30 minutes late and was again told he was on his way. Given the distance of the restaurant I knew that the delivery should have been there even if he had left when the order was supposed to arrive. They just stated that I would have to wait. Delivery was 35 minutes late and we were not given any sort of discount. The delivery driver was lovely and the food was warm but definitely this restaurant needs to work on their service.

Taste is decent and ingredients are fresh. Portion is same as other Chinese restaurants. We ordered Hot and sour soup (#1), Egg rolls (#9), Szechuan beef (#42), and Beef with flat noodles (#88c). Szechuan beef is not the best we have ever had in Ottawa, but it's still tasty and ingredients are fresh. Hubby and I both liked the beef with flat noodles. Flavour is good and noodles are fluffy. Could add more beef though. Owner is very friendly. I might go back to try other dishes if I'm in that area again.
Claire F — Google review
Good use of vegetable (not cheap stuff) but bad, bland sauces/broths and no onion. Many chinese food places used cheap vegetables as filler. This place uses good ones. But they use almost no onion and very plain sauces without flavour on their beef/veg chicken/veg guy ding type items. This could be improved easily without extra cost. Please learn how to make proper garlic sauce, oyster sauces, chop suey sauces/broths (hint, you must use some onion)
Michelle — Google review
The rice was good not salted at all though. I ordered the spicy chicken and hot and sour soup told them to make it extra spicy please and it was pretty bland just very sweet. The chicken was pretty dry and the sauce was way too sweet and lacked flavour.
Bandiiit — Google review
For the price you pay, it’s not worth it. The rice tasted like it was smoked which I really didn’t like. The chicken balls are super small and I only got 5. Chicken balls and friend shrimp were soggy. I ordered an item that has the small corn it and I bit into one that tasted like mold. It was disgusting and it paid $53
Gabrielle L — Google review
Unfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing experiences we’ve had with Chinese takeout. We ordered 3 combo plates and paid $84 (including delivery and tip), hoping to find a new local spot while our regular place is closed. Every dish in our combo plates had an overwhelming smokey taste that overpowered everything else— it didn’t taste grilled or wok-fried, just oddly burnt/smokey in a way that made it hard to enjoy. The food was also very bland, lacking the bold flavours and seasoning you’d expect from authentic Chinese cuisine. Nothing stood out, and the portions didn’t make up for the lack of quality. Sadly, it missed the mark on all fronts. We won’t be ordering again.

Aladdin Convenience & Bakery, located at 1801 Carling Ave., Ottawa, ON, is a renowned spot in Ottawa known for its Middle Eastern cuisine. It has been a popular lunch destination for high school students due to its affordable prices, with options like meat pies and meat, vegetable and cheese pies priced at $3 and $4.75 respectively. Customers have praised the meat and cheese pie as a must-try item.
Always delicious and affordable pies! Great staff!

This bakery is perfect. I love Zaatar and cheese (4.25 CAD-vegie option) and the meat and cheese (4.75 CAD) ones. So delicious, fresh and affordable. Do not forget to have cash, or you should get money from ATM.
Yasaman G — Google review
The food is pretty tasty and a treat to have something different from time to time. The service is generally pretty bad. They’re slow, always speaking Arabic and love calling you boss or bro haha The decor is very basic and nowhere inside to eat. They only take cash, too. It’s decent for takeout.
Steve S — Google review
I have been a patron of this bakery since it opened up back in the 90’s. It is so nice to see goodness in the world succeed. I was single and ate at this place, I got married and still ate at this place, I had kids and still breakfast was a satisfying Saturday morning pilgrimage to this place. The food kept evolving and the restaurant kept growing. Even when I visited Lebanon Beirut in 2010, their baked goods did not compare to this Bakery’s 😘 Mohamad is the owner and pioneer in this business as he is disciplined in electrical studies. He is a living proof of “where there is a will, there’s always a way”. He is a supporter of my kids NGHA hockey and community soccer. I like going there early in the mornings right after opening for a fresh unmatched thime pie breakfast. If you have gluten allergies he even makes gluten free pies upon request. I miss the seats option because I enjoyed engaging in morning conversations before going to work. But that’s the past and now this bakery is too busy to host discussions 😝 Still ranks the top bakery in Ottawa amongst the Farhat chain of bakeries around. Congratulations Mohamad on your continued success. You have definitely earned it man👍
Hani S — Google review
The food here is actually quite good — it’s nice to have something different every now and then, and the flavors are on point. However, the service could definitely use some improvement. It’s usually slow, and while the staff are friendly, they spend most of the time chatting in Arabic and calling everyone “boss” or “bro,” which can be a bit funny but also a little unprofessional at times. The place itself is pretty simple — no real dine-in area, just a basic setup mainly for takeout. Also worth noting, they only accept cash, so make sure you’re prepared. Overall, it’s a decent spot if you’re in the mood for something flavorful to take home, but not the place to go if you’re expecting quick service or a sit-down meal.
David C — Google review
Been coming here since the sign read eat for a dollar $. Yes, a long time ago these were a 1$ and some for the meat pie. I hadn’t visited this particular OG location in years so when I was in the area, I had to indulge in a meat/cheese $4.00. The location has gone through renovations and has upgraded. A sign reads cash only to keep prices low. Two pies are typically enough to keep your hunger satisfied. The store sells various drinks/snacks along with an assortment of pies. Spinach, meat, cheese, zaatar, potato & much more. Collaboratively working well, once you order, the service is quick. I picked up a few pies. First bite, I noticed a change in the flavor. It tasted as though the filling is a combination of different meat, maybe lamb? Its hard to pinpoint, Its not the end of the world, but the flavor that I have always known has changed. That was the case with the whole batch we picked up even the young children didn’t finish it. Overall, I do recommend Alladin, always a friendly service and plenty of options to choose from.

Delicious food, the bread is incredibly crispy and freshly made. Good quality ingredients and very reasonably priced. Only thing is it’s cash only but they have an option for Uber Eats pickup.
Hrishit D — Google review
This is a historical spot in terms of Ottawa cuisine. If you grew up in the area and went to school in the area you’ll know that this is one of Ottawa‘s busiest lunch spots for high school students. It’s extremely cheap and you could eat here for five dollars which is some thing you just don’t find in the year 2022. Lots of different options to choose from but at the end of the day try the meat and cheese pie. It’s probably the best one that I’ve ever had :) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Brassica is a modern Canadian bistro that offers imaginative meat, seafood and vegetable dishes with sustainable ingredients. The restaurant aims to provide a welcoming atmosphere and is popular with locals. Crispy shrimp tacos are a favorite dish.
The meal was absolutely fantastic! We started with the croquettes and seared scallops. I loved the texture of the croquettes but the scallops were my favorite app - very tender and the depth of flavors on the plate with the pickled raisins, almonds, and cauliflower/cheese puree worked extremely well. I had the beef short rib, which was cooked perfectly to a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness, and went nicely with the hash brown and other flavours. My partner really enjoyed the chicken and we both loved the banoffee pie. I'd gladly have the exact same thing here but there are so many things that looked good on the menu that we'll have to come back and try them all!

Had a fantastic experience at brassica restaurant. It was my birthday, and it fell on the Wednesday night tapas. Service was fantastic, constantly clean plates, cutlery, and conversation. Food was absolutely delicious. We got 5 different tapas- each made with tons of flavor, and honestly felt like art on a plate. Everything was fantastic, a few stand outs are that the fries are double fried, and very crispy! A lovely touch, as rarely restaurants do this anymore. The arincini was crispy, and cheesy. The most delicious thing though was the roasted cauliflower dish, I don't know how cauliflower could be this delicious but trust me-- I'm still thinking about it!! The beef sort rib was melt in your mouth, I didn't even need the knife. Everything is prepared fresh and with local ingredients. I truly appreciate the hard work this restaurant put in on the quality of this food, it was truly top notch.
Justine ( — Google review
The service was good aside from the server asking at the beginning of every dish, with impeccable timing, what I thought of the food JUST as I took a bite of it. I understand the attempt to check on customers and know you don't want to engage longer than necessary (trust me, I don't either!), but this was annoying to say the least as I had no way to respond while chewing. I left a standard tip, but it would improve things for the future if the restaurant could address this please. The food was quite good. I had the Yellowfin Tuna Crudo (entrée) and the Steak & Fries (main). The tuna was delicious, complex in flavour, and had a lovely artistic presentation. However, the steak & fries was a bit disappointing - I asked for medium rare, and the meat was quite chewy, especially on the end pieces (the steak came pre-sliced; see photos). The atmosphere was top notch. When I went for dinner, the French windows were open, allowing a beautiful breeze through. The lighting was just dimmed enough to create ambiance, but certainly bright enough to see the details of the food and the restaurant well. Overall, it was a balanced experience, but there are also other restaurants to explore in Ottawa.

Thank you for the experience Brassica. I think it's a nice place to eat, a small menu and very carefully thought through. The risotto balls I don't remember exactly how the named them are good, not excellent but good. For me it was a difficult night to pick something and I was not super happy with my choice. I didn't want to go with chicken because I eat chicken all the time, I selected the soft shell crab. It wasn't so great. The ravioli was delicious and everything else was great. My friend took the vegetarian lasagna. It looked ok. I guess I'm so used to cooking vegetarian food after so many years that I am often very disappointed in restaurants by the lack of taste and choice of ingredients or choice of sauce. He liked it ok, enough to finish it. Will we come back? Probably not.
Marie-Julie C — Google review
We were a group of 11. The total restaurant capacity is roughly 46, and there is a bar area. The location is not wheelchair friendly. For the table, we started with the calamari. It was perfectly prepared with a light batter and very fragrant sauce. It was really tender. For mains, a few selections were made. The most popular was the Steak&Frites medium rare. It was done to perfection! It was not your average striploin for sure! Melted in your mouth. The Pan Seared Pickeral was also delicious. As for the service, I really can't complain. The staff was very tentative to the table and frequently ensured that the glasses were full and that dishes were taken away promptly. Jason was very professional! Ask for him if he is available! Bread was constantly being refilled without asking. The staff clearly keeps an eye on the table. I did notice that there was no salt and pepper on the table though don't think it is needed. Crushed black pepper offering would have been nice as I do love the extra pepper on my food. Background music was not too loud, so we could keep the conversation going. Washrooms were clean and fresh. Parking is limited on the street. Ensure to book a spot as I suspect it can get busy!

Nestled in the heart of Ottawa, So Good Restaurant Springfield is a delightful haven for lovers of Asian cuisine. With an extensive menu that showcases the comforting flavors of Cantonese, Thai, and Vietnamese dishes, this eatery ensures that every guest leaves satisfied and full. The generous portions are perfect for sharing or indulging solo! The friendly staff adds to the welcoming atmosphere, making you feel right at home from the moment you step inside.
We’ve had food from So Good a few times over the last couple of years. Last night it was great! We ordered take out using their website. Simple, though you should call to check they got your order. The food was ready when I wanted it, and delicious. I loved the salt and pepper shrimp, the chicken fried rice was decent, Shanghai style noodles were tasty as was General Tsao chicken. Portion size is good, price is fair, service was fast. We will be back.

We have done "take out" several times from So Good in the past year, as we used to do for many years when the restaurant was located on Somerset St. Food is delicious with generous servings... especially wu se vegetables, spicy beef, vegetable fried rice, and egg rolls. Plenty of vegetarian options, which our daughters have always appreciated. Very friendly and helpful staff. One time I was waiting at the front desk as they were taking a phone order, and the cook came out to help reduce our wait time. Appreciated that. :-) Will definitely continue to return for "take out" here.
Peter P — Google review
Never ordering here again. We placed an online order for takeout, but when we arrived to pick it up, they said the price for two items had increased and demanded we pay the difference—or get no food. This is insane and, frankly, illegal. You can’t change the price after someone has already placed an order based on the advertised cost. When I told the lady this wasn’t okay, she shrugged it off with a dismissive “It is what it is.” Unbelievable. I get that times are tough, but ripping off customers who support your business is not the solution. Never again.

The Wu Se vegetable in peanut sauce is SO GOOD! Also, best Salt and Pepper tofu I’ve ever had - so crispy and full of flavour!

Had take-out from here a few weeks ago and it made both my wife and I sick. Might have been the oil. We loved the old place on Somerset, but I don't think we'll be back.

Very fast preparation time and courteous staff. We ordered take out but inside restaurant looks very clean. No frills food but very delicious. Well done beef pho had super rich broth. Almost ramen density. Flavours are all there and don’t taste ‘from a can’ like a lot of Asian spots in Ottawa. Parking is limited but there are usually spots next to Second Cup.
Konstantine S — Google review
This place is a shell of what it used to be. (miss the Somerset location under Peter). We've been supporting the new location since it opened! Noticed the quality had declined, but thought, it's not that bad...needed supper, they're close, etc. Egg rolls were burned. Dipping sauce was hard and congealed. Veg in black bean sauce? Hardly any sauce, super watered down and carrots thick and raw. Sechwan beef? Beef tasted off, hard and dry...hardly any sauce and it sat in pool of oil and of course, the carrots raw!! I called to say, hey, I've been a long term customer (15 years) and I'm disappointed in the quality (especially remembering how it used to be) and was met with "I don't know what happened" and "I don't know what to say". Not a sorry. Not a, let's make it up to you. Nothing. Welp. Oh and to top it all off, I tipped for pickup (I always tip for pickup here) and then was made to fetch my own order from their back table...little did I know what would come next. We won't be back. I wouldn't be surprised if the place closed in the next few months.

This place fell out of favour for incredibly bad service. We loved the food here and had ordered many times but today we placed a pick up order at 2:30 in the afternoon to kick off the long weekend at the cottage. The order was not ready at the scheduled time- in fact it was an hour late and they made no apologies or offered any credits on future orders . Such a huge disappointment .

Nestled in Ottawa's vibrant ByWard Market, Chez Lucien is a cozy tavern known for its hearty comfort eats and craft beer selection. The exposed burgundy brick and rustic ambiance create a bustling atmosphere that draws in a diverse clientele. The menu features mouthwatering dishes crafted from locally sourced ingredients, such as the signature Chez Lucien Burger with bacon, roasted mushroom, veggies, and cream cheese. On weekends, live jazz music enhances the already inviting atmosphere.
Chez Lucien was recommended by friends, and we’re so glad we took their advice. From the moment we walked in, the welcoming atmosphere set the tone for an excellent dining experience. The service was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall enjoyment of the evening. The menu offered a great selection, and we were particularly impressed with the beer choices. The escargot was a standout—perfectly prepared with crispy, fresh bread and just the right amount of cheese. We also tried the salmon sandwich with fries, which was flavorful and well-balanced, as well as their pasta dishes, which did not disappoint. This visit left us eager to return and explore more of their menu. If you're looking for a cozy spot with great food and a fantastic ambiance, Chez Lucien is definitely worth a visit!

This place is known for its French dishes, but we stopped by just to grab a quick burger this time. That said, I definitely want to come back and try more of the menu. It’s an older spot with a ton of character, feels almost like a little museum. The building shows its age in a good way, and the walls are covered with art. Each piece has a note about the artist, and you can even buy them, which is a nice touch. The vibe is great. I really enjoy places like this that have some history and their own personality. The food was also solid. The burger was simple but really tasty, and it came nicely plated with a bunch of fresh veggies on the side. The fries were cooked perfectly and had good flavor. The only downside was the washrooms, they weren’t very clean. But overall, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the whole experience was a good one. I’ll definitely be back.

One of the best restaurants in Ottawa. The french dishes are so good. The bread and sauce are tasty. Burgers are fine. The pork chop is surprisingly juicy. Most importantly, the prices are reasonable and I think everyone visiting Ottawa must give them a try. Some say that the service is not good and needs to wait for a long time for the food, but when we visit, the food comes fast and servers are nice people. No need to wait if reservation is made.

We came in as a group of 7, the place was pretty busy. We were seated quickly but you can tell that its packed and busy as there were some tables that haven't been cleared yet. Our server was very nice and attentive, she deserves credit as she did her best with a smile despite being the only one serving our area. We had a brunch menu, pretty sure their menu changes depending on what time you would be dining. Ordered Spicy Beef Nachos and Frida & Diego Burger - their fries was perfect cooked and seasoned, the burger also great, you get a really thick somewhat juicy beef patty and the flavors just work really well. The nachos was just okay for us. Overall, its a mixed review. Thinking we should try their dinner service next time.

This was an amazing place for a burger, wonderful and truly delicious. Served with mayo and ketchup for dipping delicious yummy French fries, so good!!! Recommend this to any tourist to go and visit!! Wish I could have stayed in Ottawa longer to keep on enjoying this very yummy food. Beer was cold and satisfying!! Amazing spot have to recommend you check it out!! Space can be limited so he there early on busy times.

We ate the escargots with cheese, beef liver, and seafood pasta and the food was great! The lady tried her best to serve us. However, it was a busy night, people kept coming in and the AC didn't work. Luckily the lady opened the front door to introduce the fresh air and breeze to cool down people inside.

We came here in June as a family when we were visiting Ottawa. Food was great and fairly priced. The mussels were fresh and delicious! Service was good. We went around 6pm and it was busy and quite loud. Great location, would come again!!

Absolute gem in Ottawa. This is the best value French food I have had. The atmosphere is more casual and cozy, but that does not take away from the quality of the food. Usually when I get escargot it comes with just 6 snails still in shells, but this one they are already deshelled and overflowing. The duck confit was also perfectly cooked with large portions. Wonderful service as well.

Bakery
Restaurant
Art-Is-In Bakery is a trendy and modern bakery-cafe that offers a variety of bread, pastries, and baguettes, as well as breakfast and sandwiches. The cafe gained popularity for its take on the cronut, a croissant-donut hybrid invented in New York City. Each day, they freshly prepare different flavors of this irresistible treat such as Cherry Pistachio, Chai, and Peanut Butter and Jelly O-Towner.
Art-Is-In Bakery is an absolute gem! From the moment you walk in, the smell of freshly baked bread fills the air, making it impossible not to get excited about what’s to come. The vibe is modern yet cozy, with a welcoming atmosphere perfect for a casual breakfast, brunch, or a quick coffee break. The croissants are next-level—flaky, buttery, and perfectly crisp on the outside with a soft, airy interior. I also tried their sourdough bread, and it was phenomenal—chewy, flavorful, and with just the right amount of tang. Their brunch menu is equally impressive; the breakfast sandwich on a fresh-baked bun was absolutely delicious, and the pastries were beautifully made and full of flavor. The coffee was great, the service was friendly, and despite being busy, everything was well-organized. Whether you’re a bread lover, a pastry enthusiast, or just looking for a fantastic spot to grab a bite, Art-Is-In Bakery is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be back!

Too expensive. Food good but not great. No one checked on us. My drink didn't taste like cherry or vanilla. Was disappointed as it was recommended drink. Felt strange giving a tip when no one had even served us yet. Had to order and pay at counter. Coffee, soda, cookie, two breakfast sandwiches and one side for 74 dollars and we had to get our own water..not very impressed. Staff was nice though, just wish someone would have come by and asked how things were. Seems to be a popular place!

Show them this picture and order this(forgot the name of it) but it was the yummiest brunch i had in a while. They also have homemade tomato sauce that tastes nothing like i have ever tasted before very flavourful. The service is ok and atmosphere doesn’t have much to offer but the food was yummy.

Best breakfast, best pizza, best cronuts, best bread - especially Kevin's buttermilk. The ingredients are of high quality. Love the atmosphere. There's free parking if you scan the QR code when you first walk in.

Expensive but butter and chocolate croissants are really good. Nice and crispy outside and so flaky. So buttery inside. The crazy grain bread is really good! Yum! Outside seating is a parking lot that’s fenced in so not the greatest atmosphere. Inside is loud and has a disorganized feeling. I got stuff to takeaway instead of staying. No way am I paying the price they wanted for a breakfast lol. But glad I tried the pastry. 🥐

What a gem! This bakery-lunch spot nails it on every level , the vibe, the food, and the service. The space is stylish and modern with just the right touch of cozy charm. Perfect for a relaxed lunch or a casual meet-up.

We’ve always wanted to try Art-Is-In for breakfast because of all the great reviews, and we’ve visited twice before to try their pastries, which are absolutely amazing! You can tell they’re super professional when it comes to baked goods—this time, the hazelnut-chocolate-coffee pastry was fantastic. That said, our breakfast experience was a bit of a letdown. We ordered the Egg Benny and The Breakfast Plate, but both were just average and nothing special. The bun on the Benny was soaked in oil, which made it unpleasant. As for the coffee, it tasted burnt, and even when I asked for a replacement, it was burnt again. I also ordered an Americano but was served filter coffee instead. The mocha was decent, but at $8 for a medium size, it felt overpriced. On a positive note, the staff here are super nice and friendly, which made the experience more enjoyable despite the issues. We’ll definitely come back for the pastries—they’re worth it! We also noticed a lot of people ordering their pizza, and it looked amazing, so that’s on our list to try next time.

It was my first time trying Art is in bakery and I came specifically to try a cronut for the first time. It my have been an off day but the ones I purchased have a bitter/burnt taste. I thought the colour was due to it being chocolate but it wasn't. For the price of one of those these overcooked/ burnt ones should not have been sold. The atmosphere while waiting to purchase was great, everyone was really friendly but the end experience was negative.

Greek restaurant
EVOO Greek Kitchen is a stylish and modern restaurant located in Ottawa's Little Italy, offering elevated Greek dishes, brunch fare, and cocktails. The owners, with over 50 years of experience in the restaurant industry, are passionate about providing authentic and delicious Greek food to Ottawa. The cozy atmosphere and classic Greek hospitality make it a great place to enjoy some of the city's best food.
We recently visited EVOO for dinner while in Ottawa for the Tulip Festival, what a great choice, very attentive staff, looked after our entire group of 10. Great service and absolutely amazing food cooked perfectly and flavourful. We had the Trio Spread, Greek Salad, Garlic Shrimp, Australian Lamb Chops, Lemon Potatoes and Moussaka that was better than any we have ever had, better than any had in Greece !! The owner Elias even came by to check up on us and we had a great conversation with him. I highly recommend EVOO if you are looking for an authentic Greek restaurant !!

We came from Toronto to Ottawa for a business meeting and were recommended to check this place out. As we were sitting down I saw the table next to us with a fish platter. We were hungry so we decided to get the fish platter for 4 people (it’s fish so no guilt right). When it came it looked delicious and I’m not sure if I was really hungry but it seemed a bit small. I could have eaten the whole platter myself. It was very tasty and seasoned well but it didn’t come with any bread or sides. Overall, we had a great dinner and we just found it a bit pricey for what we got. If anyone goes here you may need a few sides to fill up properly.

I decided to dine here for lunch on my birthday. An excellent dining experience. The entire front of the restaurant opens resulting in a nice breezy atmosphere on a hot day. We first ordered the avocado tzatziki with fried pita followed by small greek salad, a combination of tomato, cucumber, red onion, olives, and feta. The small size is perfect for two. Then we had the mixed grill for two, sausage, souvlaki, chopped chicken, and lamb chops. Our side was fries with feta. A really nice surprise was a slice of delicious cake (name I cannot remember) with a sparkler! Portions are very generous, so we took home what meat we didn't eat. Sparkling water only today. Highly recommend!

Made a reservation here for dinner and it was a great pick. Small and cozy spot, perfect for a chill night out. I’d definitely recommend booking ahead to make sure you gets spot. Tried the appetizers and chicken—everything was fresh, well-cooked, and had that authentic Greek flavor. The dips came with warm, soft pita and were packed with flavor. The grilled chicken was juicy and had great flavour too. The dishes are on the pricier side, and portions could be better but the quality and presentation match up. Service was great as well. Definitely a solid place to go if you’re craving Greek food in Ottawa.

Service was top notch. Our server that evening was very hospitable and efficient. Most of the menu is made up of shared dishes; we ordered a shared salad, spanakopita, and a grilled meat platter. The food was quite good, although we didn’t get any potatoes or bread with our selections which was disappointing. We added a bottle of wine for the occasion and our bill was well over $300 including tip by the end of the evening (three adults, one teen). I enjoyed our dinner but felt underwhelmed.

Authentic Greek food. Everything is absolutely delicious and flavourful. There is a wide variety of food to choose from. We have been coming to EVOO 5+ times a year for special occasions or to celebrate with friends for the last decade. You will be satisfied and booking your next visit.

Food and drinks were delicious. I made reservations for the patio but it turned out to be cold and windy, I asked to switch to inside and it was not possible. That and the feeling of being rushed out made the experience unpleasant but I will return to give it another chance :) I loved my meal! This restaurant should be much bigger, this is the kind of place you could spend 1hr or more just eating and chilling but not given the chance since they need you to leave.

Yangtze Restaurant, a spacious and lively dining spot in Ottawa's bustling Chinatown, has been a go-to destination for over 40 years. Specializing in classic Cantonese and Szechuan dishes, this iconic establishment is renowned for its delectable dim sum service and an extensive menu of authentic Chinese cuisine. Whether you're craving traditional dim sum or flavorful Szechuan entrees, Yangtze Restaurant offers high-quality food and top-notch service.
Everything we ordered tasted great -- with the exception of the fish and tofu hot pot. First of all, there were bones in the fish, but secondly the fish had an over-cooked texture and just tested bland. I especially loved the black pepper steak sizzling plate and szechuan crispy beef, though. Service is always fast and efficient. Lots of menu items to choose from to suit all tastes. There are vegetarian options, but I don't believe there are many vegan options. Best to call ahead if that is a concern. Btw, I heard new ownership will take place in November 2024, so eat here while you can. There's no telling whether the quality will change or not.
Bobson W — Google review
Felt like they forgot about our order. When we asked about it, our 9 plates all arrived at the same time. Not ideal when you are having Dim Sum as some dish will get cold. Anyway the food was excellent. Our table was at the end of the windows, like the last one.
Roxane M — Google review
Been coming here for many years. Food is always consistent and the prices are fair. Highly recommend you make a reservation for weekend dim sum or get there at 1030am when they open to ensure that you don’t have to wait.
Hungry R — Google review
Coming from toronto and experiencing this restaurant based on reviews and location....disappointing to say the least. Claypot dishes came lukewarm at best, our steamed fish dish was expensive filet fish, it was overcooked and underwhelming. The only saving grace was its steamed hainanese chicken... even the lobster was overcooked with little ginger onion flavour. For such an expensive dinner it was sad at best. At least the service was impeccable. I just wish it tasted as good as it looked. Go elsewhere if youre looking for good authentic chinese food.
Soupy B — Google review
The Yangtze restaurant has been one of the best go to places in Ottawa for Chinese and dimsum food for decades. It has a large capacity to cater to a lot of people and large parties. The food is consistently great and prices are good. You can order from items on the paper they give you or just tell them what you want and the cooks usually will make it if they have the ingredients. I like the meat eggplant in spicy oyster sauce the most. If you like my reviews, videos or photos why not roll the dice and scream Yangtze for a great meal.
Seeing W — Google review
Haven't had their dimsum but we went for their dinner menu. The service was good as we had someone in the group who spoke Vietnamese. The food was good too. Some dishes were better at other restaurants but if you go in a big group you can try many dishes. My personal favorite was the crispy beef!
Generic S — Google review
The restaurant’s aesthetic is warm, the exterior is very nice and the staff in their majority were friendly. That’s where the positivity ends. The quality of ingredients used is unacceptable for the prices being charged. I tried a few dishes and in all honesty the only edible dishes for me were the spring rolls, the rice and the chicken basil dish. Everything else was sub par at best. The shrimps used were frozen party cocktail shrimps that tasted like they have been thawed and a frozen a few times before they were cooked and served and the tea tasted like swimming pool water. As for the patrons, I almost exclusively saw older pensioners eating here. Felt that they deserved better.
Ziad D — Google review
Excellent Dim Sum. Quick table service. All items are cooked delicately. Very helpful waitresses. A pleasant surprise to have authentic Peking Ducks here. There is also a decent variety of Chinese tea. A clear standout compared to other dim sum places at San Francisco.

Table SODAM is a modern establishment with a rustic ambiance that offers a menu of traditional Korean small and shared plates. Their dishes are made with fresh ingredients, ensuring a delicious meal. Their signature Spicy Rice Cake is incredibly memorable, and their fried chicken is juicy and tender, making it the perfect snack. Table SODAM also allows customers to choose their preferred sauce for the fried chicken, which can be enjoyed alongside Alfredo linguini pasta or cheesy corn.
This place is really good, the food is delicious, portions are generous, and the service is warm and friendly. The only downside was a few flies around, but overall it didn’t stop us from enjoying the meal. We’d still be happy to come back.

Authentic Korean cuisine. The food is delicious and the portions generous. Good quality for price ratio. Same menu for lunch and dinner. The only thing I must say is that the restaurant closes at 14:00, so they force you out even if you are in the middle of your meal. It would have been nice to be told as we arrived at 13:00.

Popular spot for Korean food. It has something for the chronic Korean food eater and the first-timer like me. I liked the QR method of getting on the list for a table and I didn't wait that long. For the newbies, a safe bet is the sweet and spicy chicken with a side of alfredo. Service was excellent.

We came as a family of six, including a little one, and were happy to see that a high chair was readily provided. Everyone enjoyed their lunch meals—everything we ordered tasted great and came in generous portions. What really stood out were the side dishes—they were fresh, flavorful, and complemented the main dishes beautifully. The bibimbap was also especially tasty. Even though there were only two staff members working, they were impressively quick and attentive, making sure everything ran smoothly. The only small downside was that the galbijim was a bit on the sweeter side for our taste, but overall, we had a great experience and would definitely return.
Kristopher S — Google review
Table SODAM had great customer service, a limited but good range of dishes with a great atmosphere. Whether you like seafood, chicken, beef, or noodle dishes you’ll find something you like. The restaurant is on the smaller end so large groups may be difficult to accommodate.

Great option on Bank St. for Korean food. Table Sodam and Sodam 85 are the same business, but I believe Table Sodam is licensed. We had the Bulgogi Bibimbap, Gamjatang, Soy Whole Chicken, and seafood pancakes. The chicken and pancakes were absolutely delicious. The Bibimbap and Gamjatang came with assorted sides and rice, and the taste was a little muted compared to what I've had at other Korean spots, but still had that spicy and tangy element you look for. Reasonable prices, beautiful presentation and friendly staff make it a winning option!

Great food & service; unfortunately I have had better kimchi but everything else was perfect & the waiter was extremely accommodating and kind (replaced my drink when a fly from outside decided to commit suicide in it, patiently waited for us to dine over the span of a few hours bc me and my friend eat pretty slowly, promptly got our food and drinks out, etc)
Kinjal K — Google review
I used to really enjoy this Korean restaurant, my family and I came here many times and always liked the food. Every time we ordered, we usually asked for an extra bowl of rice, and it was never charged on our bill. However, during my recent visit, a different staff member told me there would be an extra charge for the rice. I didn’t mind paying at all, the issue was how the manager handled the situation. Instead of checking with his staff or trying to understand that there might have been a misunderstanding, the manager immediately insisted that the restaurant never gives free rice and spoke in a way that made it seem like I was making the story up. That kind of attitude was very disappointing and unprofessional. It’s not about the small extra charge, it’s about how a customer is treated. I truly hope the management learns to handle situations with more respect and understanding in the future.

Stofa Restaurant, located on Wellington Street West, offers a stylish and laid-back environment where guests can enjoy innovative Canadian dishes. The restaurant's chef de cuisine, Kathryn Ferries, has been with the team since 2018. Despite challenges posed by COVID-19 restrictions, the restaurant adapted by organizing take-home style dinners and supporting charitable causes.
We went on Valentine's Day. They had for Valentine's menu as a course for 120$ each. All plate portions were big, unlike other fine dining which was what I liked most. Most of the dishes we tried have a kind of fusion with Asians since the chef has an Asian background. For the first time tried Asian fusion fine dining, but it was so good! Their cocktails were good too. I recommend tequila cocktail Enamorada so unique! It was pricy but kind of worth it to try :) We will come back!
Goeun C — Google review
We stopped by Stofa this weekend to celebrate our anniversary, it was a great choice. Stofa does one of those menus where you have to choose a three course or a five course option. We chose the five course with the wine pairing. It was just such a delightful night. Our server was so sweet and made sure to explain everything on the menu to us, food, and wine. I had asked for a few accommodations because I’m a vegetarian and she was more than happy to let me know about the alterations, the kitchen had made for me. Some of the options were just so tasty. I really liked their take on ice cream, which was a nitrogen infused ice cream that you had to break apart with a tiny little mallet. The ambiance of the place is perfect with great flourishes on all the walls and very comfortable seating. The washroom is super clean and we were Vibin all night to the music choices. It is not a cheap place but I would certainly recommend splurging if you were celebrating an anniversary or birthday. Five stars!
Jon R — Google review
We chose the 5-course menu to celebrate my birthday, and it was a truly memorable evening. From start to finish, the service was thoughtful and seamless. If you have time, and plenty of appetite, a 5-course meal is definitely recommended. However we were stuffed to the max at the end, so the next time we're more likely to choose the 3-course with the additional oyster starter. My favorite dish was the soft shell crab, perfectly fried, delicately seasoned, and beautifully plated. I only gave 4-star for the food because I was a bit disappointed with the fish entrée (Stripped Bass). It came with a sauce reminiscent of butter chicken. While flavorful, it felt a bit too heavy for the delicate fish. I also didn't care for the side dishes. The cauliflower dahl arrived soft rather than crispy. If they want to deliver an Indian inspired dish, I feel like it should have had a bit more spiciness to keep things balanced. The fish itself is fantastic though. That said, the team’s attention to detail was exceptional. Without any prompting, they surprised me with a decadent chocolate treat and a handwritten birthday card at the end of the meal. It was such a thoughtful touch and made the evening feel extra special. Highly recommend for a celebratory night out!

We went to Stofa for a special occasion/date and were pleasantly surprised by this venue. I read few positive reviews before booking and then found 1 star reviews after I made reservation, which made me a little suspicious/conscious about my choice. I am glad I didn’t read bad reviews first, eventually:)) So I’ll give my feedback as bullet points. 1) intimate space if you want to go for a date, special occasion or business dinner. Many people, including us, were here for an anniversary. 2) no kids were at the venue, this felt like an adult place where you can actually enjoy the atmosphere and food! We were glad we left kids at home. 3) minimalistic decor which coincidentally fitted into our personal taste. Love it! 4) I loved the fact that after each course the flatware were changed! This is what you would expect from the restaurant like this. All the dinnerware was appropriate to its use as to my knowledge of the etiquette. Proper flutes for sparkling wine, proper espresso cup, adorable steak knives, etc. 5) we felt very comfortable being served, no judgement (visible at least) all servers well dressed, and I loved their aprons! 6) food was very good. I couldn’t find a single point to complain. We ordered 5 course meal and sparkling wine. We loved every piece of it. 7) although portions seemed small, we weren’t hungry after the visit, and I felt full 2/3 of course completion. The diversity of the flavours in the dishes made up for the amount of food. 8) we ordered Citrus Salad and Cod Cheeks for the starters, Duck breast and rabbit ragout for the main, and soufflé and chocolate cake for dessert. I can’t describe flavours, but every dish was interesting and very well balanced. It was so perfect I was in doubt I was awake :) I liked the soufflé, this is the best desert I’ve had in a long time. Well done! The chocolate cake was accessorized with side sweets with different flavours and ice cream. It was an explosion of flavours that complemented each other. I ended up liking a “chef’s choice” course that came within our 5 course menu. I don’t remember what it was, or what it was called, but that was the most amazing thing I ever tried in restaurant ( there was ricotta and polenta as part of the ingredients). It’s not cheap place, but it worth the visit! Thanks for that one review that made me choose this place :)) This IS the place that deserves to be called a Restaurant. Thank you chef, servers, and everyone involved. 🥰 Will definitely come again! 👨‍🍳😘

New Pho Bo Ga La is a Vietnamese restaurant located on Somerset between Booth and Bronson, offering traditional noodle soups and other Vietnamese dishes. The family-run spot is known for its hearty and flavorful bowls of pho, bun bo hue, Thai tom kha, and various rice or vermicelli dishes. Open until late at night, it caters to both daytime diners and night owls.
Food is great, we go there at least once a month. Employees are great, the decorations and atmosphere is amazing. They have so many different options, everything you can think of in the Vietnamese cuisine. I highly recommend! I unfortunately didn’t take any pictures of the food because we started to eat right away, couldn’t wait lol. Also, it’s very quick, we never wait long for our food, even if the place is packed.

I called over the phone for take out and ordered the grilled chicken over white rice. Look how disappointing and skimpy they did me with the portion for $22. This is insane. Also as you can see the chicken is burnt and super thin and after tasting it, I knew it was going to be dry. I will not be ordering from this restaurant again. Unreal. *update* I called and let the restaurant know of the situation. They offered to credit me next time I’m in but at this point there won’t be a next time. This isn’t the first time they’ve burned my food while I sat inside the restaurant but they did remake my food. I was hoping to give them another try but boy was I wrong to. Bottom line is, (and the pictures speak for itself) this isn’t worth $22. Insane Ottawa prices compared to Toronto.

Was looking forward to going here for quite a while. It did not disappoint. Have the seafood spicy special (S11). it was so flavorful lots of spice and lemongrass flavor. My dining partner had the regular pho which was less flavorable by comparison. The large bowl is enormous. So come hungry orbev prepared to take leftovers home.

I’ve been coming here for 10+ years, this is hands down the best pho I’ve every had (beats any place I’ve been in Toronto and Vancouver, or anywhere else in the worlds). My Vietnamese friends say this is better than what they are back home. Can’t recommend enough, the beef pho with all the toppings is my favourite order. Shrimp rice rolls with peanut sauce are a must try as well.

Been coming here for years, there is the originally Pho Bo Ga La, this is the second location. Inside, seating along the wall, pictures all over. It’s exactly what you expect, get in, they seat you, you write down your order on paper and shortly after your food will arrive. Complimentary tea& mung bean sprouts are provided. Had to come back for their Thai soup (S11), let me tell you I crave this soup. It’s perfectly spicy served with muscles and Shrimp. Served with noodles, lemon and herbs. It is oozing with flavour. It will warm you up from within. The spring rolls are also tasty, the sauce they serve it with is delicious. The service is efficient, you may not be asked every so often if all is well, but they will gladly assist if you need anything. Never had an complaints

Great food!! I had previously in the last. From a 5 star to a 1 star. This time I come Oct 9 and I don’t believe this is not appetizing bean sprouts. Waitress takes it back the first time and brings it back. I ask her still the same brown bean sprouts She replies it’s all the same. Then the waiter comes with the food. I ask him is this normal? He takes it and comes back with The same answer. It’s all we have. I was astonished why do you serve bean sprouts like this. The broth tasted like water down broth. The broth was clear as water. Also they forgot my shrimp wrap. Never had I got bad quality until today. Wow!! I just over heard the other table complaining about the broth also taste like water. Poor young waiter. Apologized many times The chef ran out broth We were so busy I arrived here and it’s not that busy. I’ve seen this place more busy. He gave me taxes off. He kept apologizing It’s not his fault. The other waiter and waitress were not customer friendly. Happy thanksgivings.

Di Rienzo's Grocery is a long-standing Italian grocer in Ottawa's Little Italy, known for its massive and affordable Italian deli sandwiches. This charming gem offers a delectable selection of subs featuring choices like mortadella, prosciutto, and Havarti cheese. The spot has earned its reputation as a sanctuary for sandwich lovers and is a testament to the beauty of simplicity.
Was recommended this place to come pick up sandwiches when we had the Ontario volleyball championships here a few weeks ago. Definitely a recommend and a must when visiting Ottawa. Can see why this is probably the number one sandwich spot in Ottawa. The meat is fresh and they sandwiches are loaded. It’s also a big bang for your buck. Very great value at $10 taxes in for any sandwich on the menu. And when i was carrying the bag, can i just say, these were heavy little guys too! They also take online orders so you can have it ready to be picked up when you go. Oh, also the cannolis. One of the best I’ve had in awhile. And do t get one, you’re gonna regret not getting a second one. Service was decent and you might be skeptical when you first walk in as it looks like an old school convenience store. But everyone was so impressed with the sandwich. The coaches even asked to have it a second time around for the second day. Parking is tough if there’s a lot of people. There’s a small parking lot but looks like many people also park on the street to make a quick stop to pick up and go. So highly recommend placing your orders online. Also got a veal sandwich which was great but i believe the sandwich is the star of the show here. Great job overall!

I was visitting a friend in Ottawa who suggested we go to Di Rienzo's for sandwiches. It is a small deli, packed with Italian goodies and products. We were there for the sandwiches, we ordered #14, #1 & #6. We were 3 people but we didn't expect the sandwiches to be huge. The 3 sandwiches were freshly made and ready in 2 minutes. The sandwiches were very good. Everything was so fresh, from the bun to the lettuce and everything in between. Is the sandwich worth $10? Yes! You can eat it in two takes, even 3 depends how hungry you are.

This is more than just food, its family. This is one of Ottawa's most classical establishments. If you enjoy deli-sandwiches; (where the deli- stands for delicious,) hand-made authentic Italian dishes are sure to win your taste buds' favor. Give yourself a treat, whether to go for the experience, the hospitality, the amazing food, the groceries, the smiles, the list can literally keep going on and on. This establishment gives back to the community in so many ways that you're only cheating yourself out of a good experience if you don't go.. so stop procrastinating and go down to see what Di Rienzo's has for you today. Let them brighten you're day, they love to do it.

Overall experience was too dramatic. There was a hair in my cannoli. I ordered a sandwich and asked the worker if they had cream cheese or pesto to put as a base on my sandwich, and the female youngish chubby worker responded in a disgusting manner, and later mocked me out loud to her coworker while she was making my sandwich. However, the young cashier and the male workers were absolutely kind and provided great customer service. Place gives a rustic italian deli vibe, a bit crammed, unorganized, but honestly the sandwiches were absolutely delicous, especially for the price point. All things considered, I definitely recommend you to try this place out though!

Originally from the Ottawa valley, i relocated to Vancouver island many years ago. My new coworker and i discovered we’re both from similar location here and reminisced of the beauty and our favourite food. Happily returning for family wedding, he begged me i must go to Di Rienzo’s as their sandwiches could not be beat. Wow he could not have been more correct. We were greeted by the staff, family owned and operated and encouraged to try their infamous #14. This was also my coworkers suggestion. The external crustiness and internal softness of the bread intertwined with the flavour of the meats and cheeses and toppings was delectable with the portion satisfying any appetite. And then the homemade cannoli. Words fail to describe the flakiness and delectable flavour of the pastry with the creams delicate smooth creamy flavour. The laughter and friendliness was not to be beat and we were lucky enough to get a photo with the owner. My coworker back in BC was thrilled i was able to partake of his favourite establishment he had not been to in many years. Hidden in little Italy on a quiet street it can be easily overlooked by passerby but I’m sure the locals are happily guarding this secret for themselves. Who wouldn’t. Never will a trip back to Ottawa be made without a stop here and will be on my list to recommend.

Yummy Italian subs!!! Ask for the spicy eggplant 😉😉 Kindest owner! Cash only, and ATM on site. I usually pick up a couple bags of pasta when I’m there - they have great $1 mixed bags.

I drove all the way out from carp today to try these sandwiches. I’m going to start with the customer service. When I walked in the door I was greeted immediately and the guy who made my order was extremely friendly and had great customer service. The restaurant was clean and very unique inside. Offering a small selection of grocery, large selection of sandwiches and hot foods, pasta ect. The price. For what you get for $10 tax in,these sandwiches are MASSIVE. Arm in pic for comparison. Made completely with fresh ingredients, the bread is great, the meat is even better. The veggies are quite fresh. I was not expecting the size to be this big and will prob be 2 meals each for me! What an amazing value for the price and the taste is one of the absolute BEST sandwiches I’ve ever had in this city hands down. Well worth the drive down and back in rush hour! I cannot recommend this shop more!! Thanks a lot guys!! Incredible quality and value!

Tucked away in the vibrant heart of Gatineau, Quebec, Chelsea Shawarma & Pizza is a delightful culinary destination that brings authentic Middle Eastern flavors to life. This charming eatery specializes in mouthwatering shawarma made from the freshest ingredients, ensuring every bite is packed with flavor. Whether you're indulging in their savory wraps or generous platters, there's something for everyone—including fantastic vegetarian options. But that's not all!
Chelsea Shawarma is absolutely delicious 🤤 We were greeted in both French and English by some wonderful staff who were very quick. We ordered the Family Platter Mini and despite the sign saying 2-3people, I think there was plenty enough for 3-4 average-hunger level people. We couldn't finish it all but I want to say..every single ingredient was fresh and delicious. Their pickles were perfect and their Garlic Sauce & Hummus were beautiful compliments to the food. In the platter: Pitas, Garlic Sauce, Hummus, Salad Dressing, Lettuce, Tomato, Pickled Turnips, Pickled Cucumbers, Radish, Shawarma Chicken, White rice w Noodles, Seasoned rice, Seasoned fried potatoes. 10/10 would recommend to anyone that's hungry and/or anyone that likes shawarma!

Excellent shawarma. I had the beef shawarma plate. Delicious and satisfying. $18.99 + tax. It was very well worth it. Made by actual Lebanese people who know what they are doing. They have plates for 2 and more and family plates. See menu. Seating for 4 people inside on the main floor plus seating for 16 upstairs(4 tables of 4 chairs). Outside is even nicer with plenty of seating under a gazebo. Great on nice days. Bathroom was clean. Always a good sign.

Food is so good. Shawarma wrap and shawarma bowl are loaded and very worth the price. Staff are very nice and friendly, customer service was amazing. Best shawarma I've ever had. All meat is halal, taboule wasn't ready but they went in to make it for us and it was very fresh and tasted incredible.

Seriously one of the best tasting shawarma platters I ever had. The rices are delicious and the ingredients are all very fresh. The chicken seasoning is perfect.

Jacob and his team catered a golf tournament I was organizing, and it couldn’t have gone better. Incredibly professional and efficient. Everyone was over the moon happy and I simply cannot express how easy to coordinate and work with he was. The food was delicious and fresh, it was the same experience as being in the restaurant and the same friendly service. I cannot recommend Jacob and the rest of his staff at Chelsea Shawarma enough

Love everything about Chelsea Shawarma & Pizza. I've had both their pizza and their Shawarma countless times over the years and have enjoyed every single bite. Jacob and his team make it a great experience and greet you with a smile every time. Yum!

If you are in the mood for schwarma, you will be grateful you went here. Their pizza is also fantastic. One time, when my pregnant wife and I went to get wraps, the owner saw that she was pregnant, asked about the baby, told us about hos kids, and threw in a free slice of pizza "for the baby". Best spot in the NCR

Bread & Sons is a cozy bakery and cafe that offers a variety of sweet and savory items, including deli sandwiches and pizza. The bakery is known for its impeccable pastries, such as the hazelnut espresso cream-filled croissant. In addition to their pastries, they also serve delicious sandwiches and pizzas during lunchtime. Their focaccia and pizza crust are particularly noteworthy, as they are a testament to their mastery of dough.
One of those 'I want to try everything because everything looks great' spots that actually lives up to how good the food looks. I spent a good 5 minutes trying to find this place as there's no signs outside, but boy am I happy I found it. Pizza with the roasted garlic and onion is sublime. Both cookies are to die for, and the FETA thing (not pictured) was my favorite of the bunch. Loved everything there.
Tarek E — Google review
I went to try Bread and Sons for lunch today for the first time. I wanted to try it based on all the great reviews. I ordered the gouda sandwich which was supposed to be "life changing". The gouda wasn't melted at all after asking for it to be grilled and there was no arugula on it which was detailed in the description. Instead they used romaine lettuce. Kinda disappointed. The many capers mixed with olive compote is quite overpowering and the focaccia bread is so hard! No idea why this sandwich gets such a great review. I found it expensive at $10.62 plus tax. I tried the butter croissant as well to see if it was as good as people say. It was very nice to be fair. 👍🏼 Edit: just to say thanks a lot to the owner for the refund. I will go in hopefully soon to try something else. I truly appreciate the contact from the owner and the effort to fix the issues. I have upped the service to a 5 star as client service is really good :). update will follow Add: I did go back and got the breakfast sandwich and the feta boreka. The boreka was super crunchy and the sesame crusted top was delicious. It was a bit salty, but that's because it's filled with feta cheese. Really nice! The breakfast croissant is unbelievable. I want to get this again actually. Two poached eggs on a croissant with cheese and warmed up. Mmmmm. The eggs were still a bit soft which was really nice. The cheese was lovely as well. Really had a European feel to it. Yum! I want to try all the croissants now. 😋

Gouda sandwich , 2 slices of pizza and chocolate macadamia cookies. The pizza was ok. The sandwich was amazing. The cookies also tasty. An expensive place but good for treating yourself. Definitely the sandwiches are their best in my opinion. Will go back.

It's a homestyle cafe specializing in coffee and delectable handmade desserts. Customers can enjoy a family-style feast or opt for their excellent catering services.
Pork hock was amazing here. Very crispy and tasty with the dipping sauces they provided. The spring rolls tasted really good and the halo halo was delicious. The service was friendly here and the atmosphere inside the restaurant was great. They even sell pastries here too!

A delightful, hidden gem of a restaurant. Food was perfectly cooked and delicious! The pork spring rolls were awesome! The adobo chicken was fantastic! The steamed rice wonderful. The rice noodles were not sloppy! The service was timely and attentive! Must try for all!

Decided to finally have lunch here. We've been before just to grab takeout desserts but it was our first time dining in. We ordered the crispy pork belly (Lechon), Sisig + Garlic Fried Rice, Longsilog, and the Lapaz Batchoy. All were great and good portion sizes. I also got the Ube Tiramisu to go and it was delicious!!

Amazing food, I need to try more and I love the deserts. The servers were so nice and helpful eith trying to figure out what was what. I would definetly recommend trying the kamayan platters as they are a great mix of things, but definetly need to try the rest of the menue too.
Chris — Google review
The food was so delicious! I'm familiar with Pandan and was really looking forward to the pancakes and they did not disappoint! Perfect amount of flavour and so fluffy! The Filipino sausage was so tasty too. I love the marinade. My friend got the Tami's brunch and some garlic rice and loved it too. We got some ube cake at the end and it was super moist and tasty. Our waiter was extremely nice and talkative too. Only gripe is it took us over 30 minutes to get the food and we were hungry!!! Overall, food is amazing but expect to wait especially during Sunday brunch.
Nammi N — Google review
Every time at Tamis, I’m greeted by friendly staffs! All the foods I’ve tried at this restaurant are great. I loved the Chicken Inasal, they were very nicely seasoned, both chicken and rice. I’ve never tried Halo Halo, but it was also very good and very asian-friendly-tasty. I liked it as well. The ube cake was delicious as well, nothing bad to talk about it. I was extremely full after eating Inasal and Halo Halo! Good serving size as well :)

Very delicious food and so glad we tried it out! We were 7 (3 adults and 4 tweens). Ordered 2 kamayans ahead as recommended on website, with a few add-ons, and a crispy pata. Longanisa was a favorite! Perfect amount of food and very fun to share. Finished the meal with a few desserts that just so amazing!! Service was excellent and we even got to meet the chef after!

SemSem is a charming Middle Eastern-style breakfast and brunch cafe known for its cozy atmosphere and modern take on traditional dishes. The menu boasts an array of homemade recipes, including variations of the popular Fatteh dish such as Fatteh Tahini with Meat and Fatteh Yogurt. Additionally, the family-run bakery at SemSem offers exceptional Levantine breads, with standout items like the wreath-shaped cheese sunflower loaf featuring halloumi cheese.
Very friendly and considerate service, the waiter recommended a different bread to pair with the fatteh and it turned out great The food its self was tasty and the portion was generous, but the tea will be on my mind for a while. Such a perfect milk tea with strong tea and spice notes and just enough sweetness! The coffee was sweet leaning and not too strong

We absolutely loved this place! The food was delicious, the service excellent, and an overall great value for your money. It’s a family friendly restaurant too, with a baby changing station, and enough space for strollers. We had the foul, fatet makdous, and falafel. Fatet makdous was seriously possibly the best one I had in my life. Will be coming back here for sure and bringing everyone I know. 10/10

Nice little cozy restaurant with excellent food. We went for breakfast and ordered eggs with sojok, cheese sunflower, Fattah chickpeas with meat. They were tasty, fresh and perfect. Accommodating and welcoming staff, atmosphere was nice for us to talk and staff wasn’t bothering after every five minutes (which is becoming a case in some restaurants)

I ordered some food to go and it was amazing, it was my first time trying the Is traditional breakfast food and it did not disappoint. I've had the zaatar × cheese combination many times before but from this place, it is very good because they combine 4 different cheeses. Excellent

One of my favourite breakfast places in Ottawa. Fresh ingredients and large portions for a fair price. The majdoul bread with zaytoon dip is a favourite! The shakshuka was very good, as was the fatteh tahini. Service is always good too.

Food is delicious, authentic taste. The sunflower cheese pastry is so good, especially with their kark tea. A combination that will melt in your mouth. Hummus with meat was really good. Falafel, fatteh, hallomi and all the food we ordered was delicious. We had the pleasure to meet the owner who work there, hands on. It was so obvious that the owner treats her business as her baby. Stella Luna Gelato Cafe in Ottawa is a top spot for remote workers and freelancers, offering a cozy ambiance, comfortable seating, and excellent coffee. Founded by a native Ottawan and her Italian husband, the cafe also serves gelato, baked goods, and small meals. The variety of gelato flavors is astounding and the cafe offers beverages as well as a cozy seating area. Customers praise the rotating gelato flavors and the helpful staff.
Gelato was okay (for Canada’s best Gelato), it’s a little too sweet. However the flavours are good I’d say. What really impressed me was their iced latte. Heavily recommend their coffee. Beautiful colour, nice roast, and over addictive flavour blend. Seriously impressed and already craving that perfectly roasted coffee again🍹lots of seats and good location, will return :)
Ghadirnass — Google review
Great place! We ordered their famous gelato of course, hearing about it from friends, and it was pretty much perfect! Portion sizes and cones are amazing, though the taste of the strawberry lemon one was more sour than expected, to my tastes, but bet it’ll be delicious to others! Lemon Almond was absolutely delicious, definitely recommend that one! Great job, and congratulations to the new owner ❤️
Jessica W — Google review
Stella Luna knows gelato. We tried the pistachio and hazelnut, and both were unbelievably smooth, rich, and full of real nutty flavor. Each bite was creamy perfection—like a little trip to Italy in a cup. Cozy café vibes with a European feel, perfect for a treat any time of day.
Little S — Google review
Highly recommended by family and friends, I finally tried this place today. Fantastic experience! Best gelato place in town. We tried a few gelato samplers before ordering, and I ordered a large size of gelato with three flavors, maple almond bilberries, Ferrero Rocher, and Kona explosion, it was delicious. The staff were very pleasant and efficient.
Jenny L — Google review
Disappointed with my second order I’ve ordered from Stella Luna Gelato Café (Bank St) before — the first time, I only got the Pistachio Cannoli, and they were absolutely delicious: fresh, creamy, and not too sweet. That great experience is what made me order again. Unfortunately, this time was a letdown: • The Personal Lemon Meringue Tart was far too sweet for my taste. • The Pistachio Cannoli didn’t seem fresh — the filling was shiny, deflated, and lacked the flavour I remembered. • The Cream Puffs were dry and hard, like they’d been sitting out too long. Delivery through Uber Eats was fast, but the quality just wasn’t there. I paid over $30 CAD, and honestly, it didn’t feel worth it. Maybe the dine-in experience is better, but I’m hesitant to try delivery again.
Oleksandr K — Google review
A comeback worth celebrating! I previously left a disappointed review about my second order from Stella Luna Gelato Café, but I’m happy to say they’ve truly turned things around. I ordered the Pistachio Cannoli again, and this time they were perfect — crisp pastry shell, smooth pistachio cream, just the right touch of sweetness, with one end dipped in chocolate and topped with roasted pistachios. They reminded me of the pistachio cannoli featured in the 2025 film Nonnas — simple, traditional, and made with care. Although I’m not Italian by background, I lived in Italy as a teen and fell in love with the food. These cannoli brought me right back to that feeling. Thank you to the owner for listening and responding thoughtfully. And grazie di cuore to the pastry chef — your work brings real joy.
Oksana K — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Hands down the best gelato The texture is unbelievably smooth, the flavours are rich and authentic, and you can tell it’s made with real ingredients. Every scoop tastes like it was crafted with care. If you’re a gelato lover, this place is a must.
