Gringo Café is hands down one of the best breakfast spots in Rio! We visited twice, and both experiences were fantastic. On our first visit, I had the Farmhouse Breakfast, which was fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. We also tried the spicy buffalo chicken strips, which had just the right kick, and my partner thoroughly enjoyed his grilled chicken club sandwich. The portion sizes were generous, making it a great value. On our second visit, I opted for the sausage, egg, and cheese scramble, and once again, the quality and taste were top-notch. Whether you’re a local or visiting, Gringo Café is an absolute must-try. The food, atmosphere, and experience make it well worth any wait!

Best food, we’ve tried other spots and nothing tastes like home compared to this place. Lou is the best server of all time. They have incredible english and are honestly so kind we came here for breakfast 4 days out of the 5 in rio. Nothing better than here

This place is the best! The breakfast food is so good, my friends and I loved going here during our weeklong stay in Rio. Plenty of options and the drinks are very fresh and delicious as well. This is a better spot than some places in the United States! It’s super casual and a little limited on seating but during the times we went, it was not crowded and naturally we were into other Americans that were in town.

This place is a fantastic option for breakfast after a night out as they have bacon eggs, and french fries. This is a great place. You have never seen a place like this before so nice so American. Great people delicious food.

The Brazilians try to recreate American 🇺🇸 food 🥘 dishes. Come early the place is small and always has a line. 15 minutes is normal wait time for a table. I was very pleased 😀 today. Breakfast all day people..,🤗

This cafe is great if you're looking for simple breakfasts that feel home cooked and are natural. I ordered the waffle, a strawberry blueberry smoothie and the body builder breakfast (egg whites, cured salmon, and fruit). It came out to $30USD so demerit recommend cooking at home if you can, but still if not, you can pay a bit more and have them prepare that feel good home cooked meal for you. Also the service is very nice, wifi, and small TV for games.

Stopped by on a Saturday around noon. The place was bustling but we were able to get a table for 2 quickly. Friendly staff, great food, American diner ambiance. We'll be back!

this experience at this place has by far been the WORST SERVICE I’ve ever experienced. My husband and i ordered food using an English menu list. We waited for a long time before I had to signal a waiter (a young man) to take our paper with our orders marked on it. In hindsight, maybe this would have been a warning sign already. We initially received one water bottle when I clearly wrote two on the order. And then… we waited for 45 minutes and there was still no sign of our order. And no one came to check??? I was staring at the waiters and waitresses at the 30min mark, but no one even bothered to come by. We noticed a few people coming and leaving after being notified something about the kitchen. Then my husband went to ask the staff and they told us we only ordered water. This is impossible: 1. How can they miss ALL of the other food items we ordered but just managed to see the drinks on the same piece of paper?! 2. If there are some items are not available to order, why did NO ONE notify us after we placed our order??! 3. 45 MINUTES. We waited for 45 minutes until we had to ask ourselves about our order because no one bothered to ask why we were sitting there with our drinks for so long. Super slow service. And after all of that, in order to placate us, they said our drinks were for free (two bottles of 300ml of water). Wow, what a big consolation that was. I have never even been so angry and upset at an experience and i consider myself a calm person. Ruined my whole day. Visit was on 3rd March 2025 at around 3pm. First and LAST visit. Will definitely not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Found this place while walking around the Lagoa area and we loved the sandwiches here! They have gotten several awards and certifications for their food and it definitely lived up to expectations. It was packed around 2pm tho and our table arrangement for 4 people was a bit weird.

Not recommended. One menu pice of paper for everyone is a horrible idea, the waitress and all service disorganized, poor and bad food presentation.

Really enjoyed our brunch here. I think because we didn’t speak Portuguese, we didn’t get our full order and had to keep asking. Other than that, it was an overall good experience.

Amazing food options for everyone who eats meat to vegan. We ordered couvert and bruschetta was delicious with varied breads and the dippings. In the main course we ordered quiche with goat cheese and quinoa with cashews and pesto de salsa. The staff is very polite and quick in service. The cheese bread with gruyere cheese is to die for. Must visit place also they have received best breakfast awards for 2 years consecutively. Waiting to go there for breakfast.

My friend and I came to Da Casa da Táta’s late one evening after a day at Leblon Beach and the cafe was an absolute dream. When we sat down, I almost instinctually knew who Táta was and she was a gracious, kind host with such a beautiful presence and spirit. The coffee and cake and full breakfast in the morning is prepared with a lot of love. Felt like Home. Táta and her husband are very warm, hospitable and kind people I wish for anyone to meet during their time in Rio. I’m welling up with tears of joy just thinking of how she made us feel so welcome. Lovely place. The decor is beautiful, the place is cozy, it plays soft jazz for ambience... A dream cafe at the heart of zona sul Rio. It is hard to find those here. The prices are great for the area and the quality of the place!!! You will feel welcomed here. The waiters are nice, and the people running it are socially progressive. There is a painting of Marielle Franco on the front window glass.

We went for a brunch. The place was very cosy both inside and outside. However, my girlfriend and I were truly disappointed with the service attitude. My girlfriend wanted to order a breakfast menu which included a natural juice. She asked if she could mix two fruits for the juice and said that she would even pay the price difference. Ten service however was extremely inflexible and ruled out such possibility. Zero customer-centric! Moreover, service brought a fried egg instead of a scrambled one. The fried eggs were initially too soft (a significant part of the eggwhite was still liquid). Also as I was about to finish with one of my plates the waitress asked if she could remove the plate; yet, before having answered that I wasn’t done yet she removed it. Food-wise it was good. The waffles were excellent, so were the juices. The avocado toasts were extremely difficult to eat and overall a bit bland in terms of flavour. The coffee was good.

It’s one of my go-to spots! The food is super tasty, always feels fresh, and I love that there are tons of vegetarian and vegan options. The staff is really friendly, which adds to the chill vibe. Service is usually quick, especially after the breakfast rush. It can get a little slow in the morning just because it gets packed. I really like sitting outside at the round tables when the weather’s nice. It’s relaxed and casual, and great for hanging out. Inside is nice too if you want something quieter. They’ve got lots of juices! For soda lovers, being your own coca-cola: they don’t serve soda. Parking can be hit or miss depending on the time, so I usually just Uber there to keep it simple.

Expectations were kind of high of this one and not fullfilled unfortunately. Recommended to have great coffee and great ambient, I was expecting speciality level - what I found was a decent bakery with some coffee options. To be fair, the bread really was good and the bowls around us looked great, too. Minus one star due to quite basic coffee. Ambient is nice next to the gardens, especially with their Veranda. Service was great.

They had a varied range of pastries and cakes, which looked scrumptious. After a quick browse we knew that we had to try some of these. We sat at one of the tables outside and were offered a QR code to see the menu in English. This place didn’t just do baked goods, it also offered a wide range of breakfast items and sandwiches. We stuck to ordering some cakes. Unfortunately the one I really wanted to try which was Apple, Walnut and Cinnamon was only available as a large cake. I had to change to something else and chose Orange and Almond cake. Something got lost in translation as I ended up with an Almond Croissant. I just went with it and it was nice. My husband ordered an apple tart and crostine. The crostine was twisted delicate filo pastry integrated with little bursts of chocolate. It was a much lighter alternative to a pain au chocolate. The apple tart was simply delightful. The firm yet soft slices apple sat in a perfect sticky glacé on a bed of solid yet almost biscuity base. It teamed well with the coffee he had ordered. Along with this I chose a Pink Lemonade. This was like having a fruity mojito without the alcohol. There were full pieces of raspberry and blackberry in it.

This quaint little café/bakery has the freshest array of anything baked! The location is perfect, right next to the Botanic Gardens. We decided to start off with a great breakfast from here before proceeding to the Botanic Gardens. It was the best decision we ever made.l!

Healthy breakfast. Excellent quality and fresh ingredients. We enjoyed the organic açaí. Mango papaya lassi. Pineapple and watermelon juice. The ham croissant Benedict was excellent. We stopped by Cultivar for their handmade açaí and cheese bread, and everything was delicious. It’s a cozy local spot with a steady stream of regulars, which says a lot. Great flavors and a really welcoming vibe!

This place is a hidden gem just in the heart of the most beautiful area of Rio, Santa Teresa. Delicious and abundant açai, served with granola, and amazing pao de quejo. Ladies are very kind and prices very fair!

I recently visited Cultivar Shop in the Santa Teresa neighborhood of Rio and was absolutely delighted by the experience. The pie and açai bowl I had there were the best I've ever tasted – fresh, flavorful, and simply unforgettable. What sets this place apart is its commitment to organic produce, ensuring every bite is as wholesome as it is delicious. The staff at the shop were incredibly friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall pleasant atmosphere. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality of what they offer. If you find yourself in Rio, especially in Santa Teresa, Cultivar Shop is a must-visit. You won't be disappointed!

Best pão de queijo (cheese bread), açaí and mate (Brazilian cold tea). I always stop her to get exactly these 3 items. They are the best in the region and totally inexpensive. Probably the best pao we had in our trip to Brazil. Note: assume you are doing take-out, as there is almost no seating and almost always a lineup.

First time trying Acai bowl and I was not disappointed! It was lovely, combined with these cheesy bread rolls freshly baked was a brilliant combination! I will definetely be coming here for breakfast/lunch here again

Zaza is the best!! Shoutout to the chefs 💛 My husband and I were visiting Brazil from the states & spent a couple of days in Rio at the end of our trip. We truly doubt our overall food experiences would have been as highly rated if it weren’t for Nusa Cafe (we ate here about 3 times) and missed Zaza when she wasn’t there. Her English speaking skills were a huge help and her natural friendliness was a true comfort. The Shakshuka was 10/10, the pistachio chai and strawberry matcha were so uniquely delicious— not to mention the presentations of fruit/flower treats were like nowhere I’ve seen in a cafe before. The decor and environment was boho perfection, I really can’t say enough about the staff and our experiences. We highly recommend this spot! <3 plz keep up the great service! Love & hugs xx

On my trip to Rio I was craving a Matcha Latte with Oatmilk. And I found it at Nusa. We were welcome and greeted in english by Zaza which made us feel at ease an welcome as we do not speak Portuguese. She made our stay at Nusa really happy. We had a Avocado Garden and a Papaya Garden, continued with a Ceningan Brunch Option and finished with a waffle. The best was that everything was Glutenfree. A delight! Thank you team!

Some past reviews mention service was lacking but I found no such thing. Actually I experienced very attentive service. Eli was a great waiter. I had a wonderful avocado toast with salmon poached egg Benedict. It was great. The coffee was good too. Everything came out fast, which was surprising considering how busy they are. My one complaint is how can a restaurant this popular with tourists not have Wi-Fi. Come on...... add the wi-fi.

Came here for breakfast and had high expectations from the reviews. Service was shocking - 3 tables ordered and left before we were served food and they arrives after us? Also they added a service charge which is the biggest joke! The food was average - shatshuka in particular was poor, the eggs were poached and not baked in the sauce as they should be and the sauce was very watery.

The food was not bad, but you come here for the ambiance. It is quite expensive for what it is, and the waiting time took a few hours from our visit in Rio, so come if you have spare time. Great for some pictures, and again, the food was not bad at all, but all in all I don’t think it was worth the hassle, time, and money invested.

Unfortunately, this was by far the most disappointing experience I had during my time in Rio. After waiting over 45 minutes just to get a table, I was met with poor service and even worse food. I ordered the French toast with fresh fruits and was served a burnt slice of toast with spoiled, old fruit—absolutely unacceptable. I also ordered a drip coffee, and instead of a proper brew, I received a drip bag and a cup of hot water, as if I was meant to make it myself at the table. To top it all off, the entire meal was severely overpriced for the quality (or lack thereof). This place felt like a tourist scam, banking on location and hype rather than delivering even a basic level of food or service. Do not recommend. There are far better spots in Rio that are honest, welcoming, and serve actual quality.

Pretty beautiful spot, but really the pics you see is all there is. The blue pool that everyone takes their pictures in front of. Long lines to for a quick photo, you’re able to skip the lines if you come eat here at plage cafe as there is a separate line. You can just go grab some photos after you’re done. However this is a bit of a steep price to pay as the food is pretty bad. My gf ordered the beef stew that I thought was decent but she said was mostly flavorless and salty. My chorizo steak was awful, took forever to come and medium rare was totally a grey dry hockey puck, I sent it back and it came back totally raw inside, I thought Brazilians knew steaks.

Great food but be warned that you will need to queue/wait for a table. They have a good system in place so you can leave your number and they’ll text you when your table is ready. It’s also very popular and busy with people queuing to take pictures so just have that in mind before going.

Very nice building, but the waiting time is not worth it for the quality. Food not very good, service as well. We waited in line half an hour before the opening time, but without a reason they decided to open at 9:40 instead of 9:00 on a sunday. It is very crowded, stating at the cafe with people waiting in line to take pictures is not very pleasant. Shakshuka is very very bad

The view from the entrance of the cafe was amazing, but there was a long like to take a picture and we skipped it. The food was so good. I had a typical Brazilian plate and fresh fruit juice, Brazilian beer. I was curious how it goes when it rains.

Such a wonderful spot for breakfast (& I’m sure other meals too!) The patio location is right on the Ipanema boardwalk with fantastic views of the beach. Restaurant played some light bossa nova which was a lovely atmosphere and service from our waiter Mario was perfect. Lastly, the food we ordered hit the spot. We hope to return on our trip!

Been here two times. Beautiful place, beneath a hotel, with good vibes (a bit stiff though) and a great location and view at Ipanema. Nothing to complain about food and drinks, but the second time I did not come back for the drinks but for the view and the chill ambient.

The food is average and the service is slow. They had all the exterior tables “booked” and with a long waiting list but we spend more than one hour dining inside and the tables outside stayed empty.

Flavorful food! I'd come back on a date. My favorite thing, live chill music, not too loud like in other places. We tried many dishes and all the food was quite good. The shrimp starter was my favorite. Service was not only efficient but kind and fun. Excellent for dinner.

The food was great, the bread and pastries are amazingly baked. The fruit salad was not that good, most of the fruits were not ripe enough. The coffee was delicious. The ambience was super busy and there was loud live music as well so don’t expect being able to hold a conversation while sitting outside.

After a coffee craving, we fell upon this lovely place. More than just coffee they have great desserts and pastry. We tried the pastel de nata and a chicken and cheese pastry. All three delicious accompaniments to our double espressos.

A beautiful bakery-cafe and a delicacy store where you can find great Brazilian delicacies. You can have a nice brunch here on the vibrant and tree lined Av Ataulfo de Paiva in the heart of the upscale area of Rio, Leblon. The food is tasty and well presented . Sit at a table outside on the pavement to get one with the energy of the heart of Leblon. But don't forget to go inside and spend some time to see the delicacies and maybe buy something to bring back home.

We had a delecious breakfast here yesterday. Both Alex and Lawanda are top-notch servers. They are pleasant and were quick to bring our food. We really like the vibe here as it is great for people watching. This is the 3rd summer (it is winter for Rio) in a row that we have stayed in Leblon, and we always always dine here, shop for fresh meats, cheeses, and other last-minute groceries. Average regular bakery with a good variety of bread, but subpar quality overall. It’s outside seating is a mess and poorly managed. If you’re looking for “café da manhã” experience just go next door for a good old style padaria.

Amazing Breakfast, reasonable price. I come here because my local friends recommended it ando totally loved it. I've seen in the walls this restaurant is one of the most awarded in the city. Spent no more than 50 reais (15 USD) in coffee and sandwich. Bread is baked here so is for sure fresh.

Talho is my favorite breakfast , late lunch, or even dinner spot. From all baked goods, to Brazilian specialties, soups and sandwiches !! Ah ! Ah… and delicious pastries . My favorite spot ! Went also on the Ipanema and Tamirez was just great !! Always helpful, and attentive! Thank you TAMIREZ!!!

There is no board or signage, but the place is located right on the road. This is not a vegan restaurant, has a lot of meat. But has good vegan options. Pay per weight, which is pretty common in Rio. The vegan options are really tasty such as the different kinds of local potato and lentil salad. A mixed raisin and lentil veggie rice was my favourite. There's also an organic health food store attached which stocks gluten free and vegan snacks and food. I got organic Brazilian coffee from here.

The heating table made the food lukewarm making it a hotbed for bacteria. Aside from that which should be an easy fix it was ok with a good assortment of food. The sushi was terrible tho.

Decent Veggie options. However be careful as my friend scooped chicken and had to pay for it because it’s a meat and vegetarian cafe. The food wasn’t very flavorful, but it was cheap and fine for the late lunch. This was 20 BRL.

Definitely not vegetarian, has a lot of meat and seafood. Honestly, it's not the most appetizing location downstairs, feels a bit crowded and haphazard, but they do have a good selection, especially veggies which can be hard to find in Brazil, and the upstairs seating area is nice and breezy. The food does taste healthier than normal, with less salt and oil. Pick a plate, pick what you want, and get it weighed before you eat. Pay after.

The food is tasty, well seasoned and well served for a good price. Two biggest issues there are the waiters and the chairs. When I arrived for some unbelievable reason the waiter assumed I was a foreigner and didn't try to understand what I said, even though I'm Brazilian and was speaking clearly. I asked two simple questions, he wasn't able to understand. I asked how much for the torrada Petrópolis combo and the plain coffee. He insisted on assuming I was asking to change the juice for the coffee. Later on, I was feeling bad and needed to take a medicine. I asked for tap water and he frowned on me. Took a long time to handle it to me. And the chairs there are completely awful if you weight more than 80kg. All said, it's a good affordable place to eat, just ignore the horrible service.

It is good, not great. The atmosphere and the ambience and the cakes inside are definitely the wow factor of this spot. Pro: - great cakes - great decor and atmosphere - decent price - decent service Con: - average food (easily make it all at home) - coffee is ok If I wasn't expecting more, I probably wouldn't have been this disapointed. I was at the establishment this morning and I was not taken care of. I was alone at a table, due to the delay I called an attendant who wrote down my request. After about 20 minutes, when all the requests next door arrived, I asked again about my request and nothing. On the third attempt, the attendant told me that I had not made the request, that she was responsible for the sector and asked me who I asked for. There was no proactivity in solving the problem, as if I were responsible for the lack of communication from the attendants. Simplesmente fui embora sem comer.

It's an OK place for a quick bite. Food is not plentiful or fantastic but will do the job. They have a good selection of pastries inside the store. I got a sandwich that had transparent bacon (basically, 90% fat and no meat). I was hungry so ate it anyway, but it could be better.

A "must" for coffee lovers! Unfortunately it is one of the few places of this kind from Rio. The guys were very friendly, giving relevant information about the products. A great approach. There is the possibility to have several types of coffee that they sell in the form of espresso or latte. Tasting of different types of coffee is also possible. You can even brew your own coffee. You can pay for the coffee as much as you think it is worth it. Pay by yourself using card. A truely unique and wonderful experience. Highly recommend!

The owner of the place and the personnel was so friendly that we visited this cafe two times in our stay in Rio de Janeiro. We had the opportunity to have a chat and felt like we already knew each other. Leo helps you try preparing your own coffee if you like, it was quite an experience. We got some freshly grounded coffee and they were so kind to prepare them elaborately in separate packages. These were gifts for our friends. We had some coffee for ourselves too and enjoyed every sip of it when we were at 10thousand kilometers away!

Was looking for something more “elaborated” to eat in Rio and this did not disappoint. The ambience felt great and the food was well curated and flavorful. Would come back again and recommend it to anyone nearby.

My husband and I had breakfast on a Friday morning. This place is just a 5-minute walk from our place. It’s beautiful, with great lighting - we sat outside because the weather was pleasant, and shot the most gorgeous photos! Food was really good. I had the sourdough mushroom toast which is unique, never had something like that before. And my husband had the acai bread with scrambled eggs and avocado. Acai bread was new to us and pretty delicious on its own too. For drinks, my Duce de Leite cappuccino was decadent! I would recommend it if you are craving something sweet. We would definitely come again and perhaps try lunch or dinner as it is so close to us.

Delicious local food! Fettuccini ai frutti di mare was spectacular! Fresh and delicious. Also a perfect place to begin the day with delicious local breakfast options!

This modern contemporary cuisine with menu inspired by Brazilian traditional cuisine is an absolute must if you are in Rio de Janeiro. Everything was absolutely delicious and done to perfection including the cocktails. I highly recommend to try their passion fruit caipirinha. The restaurant is offering beautiful, modern interior design and friendly atmosphere brought by lovely and helpful staff. So far the great experience. I would definitely visit again.

Had fish with tucupi sauce for lunch that was excellent, 5*. Went back for breakfast, and it was a disaster. Eggs benedict was disappointing, sauce, ham and muffin were all cold. Juice of the day was tasteless. Tapioca was tough. There were many tables open but we still waited 20 minutes before we could order something. Rating is average of 5 and 1 star...

The waiter was kind and patient while selecting wines. They did have a sommelier on staff.. pretty cool. The meal was just a couple bites… ha.. but the culinary experience was nice. A small quaint space in copacabana and did not visit rooftop due to it being closed.

I was there a month ago for dinner and it was very good, however was told the chef had just left and they were awaiting a new one. The service was the best I have had in Rio. However going back this week the menu had changed and was less interesting, (although the ceviche was very good), mains were expensive and small, and the service was all over the place. Also the excellent executive lunch menu had gone (despite still being on the website). It’s a shame as it was one of my preferred restaurants in Rio. However with the new setup there is much better value for money in Rio. Still a really nice dining space so hopefully they can sort it out.

The highlight is definitely the service - 5 stars. We did the 3 courses experience - starter, main and dessert. The food was good, not outstanding. Our favorite was the couvert, which included goat cheese. Drinks were tasty, I had the coffee bourbon one. Environment is also nice - comfortable chairs, well selected music.

We are celebrating our Anniversary and we carefully choose a restaurant to have an amazing night however the experience we had in this restaurant is completely unpleasant. First, they are unresponsive in their Social Media Accounts, I have to ask my Brazillian Boyfriend to message them in Whatsapp and yet they took so much time to reply and do not reply on all the inquiries we had. We asked for a reservation in the rooftop with the view advertised in Instagram and they confirmed it that it will be available but when we got there the pool chairs are all over and people are in their bathrobes that kinda ruin the vibe. We also asked if the menu for Restaurant week is available but no response on WA and they asked us to go down as it is not available on the roof top. When we got downstairs, we are the second couple they had and we told them we are celebrating our anniversary and yet no personalize service were made. The food and service procedure was not followed properly considering it is a high end restaurant as we had bread for starters and a sandwich for appetizer??? They made a mistake serving our dessert. The oysters and bread were still on the table when they serve the dessert. Food were being removed from the table without even asking if we are done with it. Concerns were raised and the somelier handled it properly. However our night is already ruined and it is sad that if from the beginning they are responsive and setting proper expectation, we won't waste one of the nights of our vacation.

Fresh ingredients and tastefully prepared. It's about as good as you'll get in Copacabana. For dinner there is a choice between a 3 or 5 course tasting menu, or al la carte. The tasting menu let's you choose your dishes and has a few that aren't on the a la carte menu so that seemed the better choice. Pork belly and taglatelle were good and the salmon starter was great. We also had breakfast and the dishes, while small, are really good. The le croque monsieur was great!

A true gem in the middle of Copacabana. Understated elegance in every detail, sophisticated rooms with great views of the beach. The only downside is that the hotel is so much more chic than its immediate surroundings in Copacabana. We found ourselves using Uber all the time to go to Ipanema where the dining and shopping experience is so much better.

So far the best restaurant in Copacabana. The food is exquisite and the service is excellent. Dangal our waiter speaks 4 languages (or more). We took the three times experience and was perfect.

Stopped by for a coffee break after walking around Copacabana. We got the chocolate mousse (which is actually a chocolate pie that is sprinkled with black pepper and melted chocolate and flaming vodka poured over at the table), lemon pie and coffee from a siphon coffee maker. The mousse was unexpectedly delicious and tasty! The coffee was balanced and very good. Chef Marcelo and Bruno took care of us and the service was 10/10.

I went for the tiramisu, but of course, they didn’t have it. Then I asked for the dessert menu to check the prices, but the tiramisu wasn’t listed. There was a separate dessert menu at the counter, so I checked that too. Still, I couldn’t find the dessert I was looking at on the menu. When I pointed it out to the waiter, he gave me attitude and called it a brownie — even though it clearly looked like some kind of white cake. On top of that, my friend’s coffee came with little to no foam, even though he specifically asked for foam. Do you guys even know how to make a proper cappuccino? Doors were open. Lots of great and noise

I loved the cappuccino here! (It tastes different from regular coffee with a ting of cocoa flavour, very mild) The cappuccino size is bit small for someone coming from north America, not a big deal!The ambience is nice with calm music in the mornings. I came back again for the coffee in the evening and enjoyed it a lot. The egg and bun/bread was tasty too :)

Very nice cafe tucked away in a tranquil location. The service is quick and the coffee is good. Recommend if you need a quiet place to relax in between your activities.

The server Bruno was really nice and indulged all my autistic needs of detailed explanations about the coffee to the best of his ability without being annoyed. 😅 I had the Amazonia coffee and it was everything it promised.

I wanted to go to a nice cafe in São Paulo and here I found :) Their pao de quejio & pulled pork sandwich was so delicious! I love the ambient of this cafe very much, spacious, high ceiling and lots of greens. I’d def come back next time I visit São Paulo!

Amazing bakery. We went here multiple times while in Rio and every time it was great. All the dishes we tried were amazing and their bread and pastries were great. This is by far the best bakery in Rio and a level above the rest. Their croissants are good, the BLT was really nice with thick cut bacon and the coffee is great. This bakery would hold it’s own even in cities like London and Melbourne. I highly recommend

Wide selection of yummy baked goods! Recommend Went in a Sunday for brunch. Immediately brought inside to a waiting area and then seated at a table for 3 in about 5 minutes. Ordered Eggs Benedict (served on great brioche), Croque Madame (decent, not the absolute best I’ve had), PBJ served on sourdough and toasted (probably the best) and a cold brew, and Vietnamese coffee (too sweet, coffee not bitter enough). Service was efficient, staff spoke enough English to communicate. Prices are reasonable by US standards ($30 for everything, about 200 reals) Would recommend for brunch!

Even tho the quality of the bread is good, the pricing is ridiculous. We went to buy focaccia and they gave us a 2 (!) DAYS OLD piece for 28 reais, while in other places the fresh one is cheaper, or 50% for the yesterday batch. Very unexpected and disappointing

I simply loved the place from the first step at the entrance, to the moment I paid the bill. They have a beautiful waiting place outdoors, where you can calmly have a chat or simply observe the nature before getting a table. I could only see the breakfast/brunch menu and good things was they have a vegan option of it. The food was good, I did not love the vegetarian pancakes, but all the rest was really good. The ambient is beautiful, service is kind and quick. Really recommend it.

A cozy restaurant for vegetarian meals in Copacabana. I visited for breakfast, and it was a good experience. I tried the croissant with tofu, which was just okay for me, although it was larger than the usual size. The latte, however, was worth trying. My friend ordered the omelette, and it tasted better than the croissant. Overall, it was a nice experience in the vegetarian scene in Rio.

What can we say about this place other than it is the best vegan place we have been to ever! A huge selection of baked goods, breakfast, lunch and dinner options which tasted amazing. The ginger ale was amazing and great coffee! We came a number of times trying their vegan meatballs, vegan burger and vegan pastries and vegan desserts . The vegan cheesy seitan steak a big highlight! We wish there are more of these in the future, especially in the UK! Hats off to the chefs and staff for the top quality food and service.

Teva is hands down one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Rio de Janeiro! 🌿 It’s 100% vegan, all organic, and completely preservative free. Everything on the menu is made with care and packed with flavor. Whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, or just someone looking to eat healthy, Teva has something for you. Their menu is impressively extensive, with options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Everything is delicious, creative, and beautifully presented. I visited the Teva Copacabana location, which also has a bakery section where you can buy their incredible products to take home. The atmosphere is cozy and modern, with a warm and welcoming vibe that matches the restaurant’s healthy philosophy. Parking is easy with two garages nearby and some street spots, although I would recommend going by Uber for convenience. No reservations were needed; I just walked in and got a table right away. I was tipped off by my friend Renata to try the plant-based menu at Teva Deli in Rio, and thank goodness I did. Sophisticated but unpretentious. The vegan cannoli alone was so yummy. Our table shared the portobello cardoppia and caju cheese, both rich, earthy, and luxuriously satisfying. Creamy, filling, delicious, proof that vegan food can flirt with decadence. There are so many more dishes I’m coming back for!

We weren't staying there just went to the bar, very friendly service, don't be afraid to just come in. They don't care who you are or how you're dressed, they just serve you well, which was a breath of fresh air in a city that judges everyone by what they assume is in your bank account. The drinks are fine, and they mix anything you request. Place is beautiful and charming. Overall the best experience in the area.

This hotel felt very much 5 stars. It's located right in front of the walk with the beaches, so it's actually very convenient in location. The rooms have wonderful amenities. Some of them have a better views and for that there are different pricing . Also within the hotel there are 4 different restaurants, which actually makes it extremely convenient to have very good food without having to walk out of the restaurant.If you don't want to brave the streets of Ruo at night. Pool is also good. If you happen to be there during one of their special organized dinner, I highly recommend you do that.We did the champagne experience.It was fabulous

Stayed here for almost a week. Rooms are ok, as expected in a luxury chain hotel. Service and staff is amazing. Two things ruined the experience for me. First, the food is really bad. I mean crunchy potatoes in a chicken soup bad. Second, there was an event at the hotel every single day. Which means tons of foot traffic in common areas, and more importantly- loud noises. There was a wedding with loud music (which stopped at midnight, to be fair) then a conference, and so on. Historic place, but I would not recommend

I'm convinced some of these reviews are fake because my experience was absolutely not 5 star like many in the comments are saying. I felt the hotel staff was trying to micromanage us the entire time. The food at Pergula was mid and very overpriced for what they were serving. Breakfast tasted old. A couple of good baked goods but thats about it. I had a great massage here but aside from that, its more of a pretty 4 star hotel. The service and quality of food was missing to be 5 star in my opinion.

Nice location. Went there for the brunch and had high expectations based on the reviews. Although the place was half empty, it took over one hour to get the food. As it took so long, after 30 minutes I asked to already get the coffee. That took them ten minutes, after I had to ask again. Very unprofessional service. When we finally got the food, the portions are rather small. We had a bagel which they promote as the best bagel in Rio. It was the worst I have had so far. Very chewy. Just confirms that Rio is not the place to get a bagle.

This place is a secret gem. Located on the top of a hill in the historical part of town in Santa Teresa, this old private property has been transformed into a small luxurious Oasis with the most stunning views over Rio that I have ever seen. The old private villa with a 70s charm has 8 suites with unbelievable views of the city, Bahia da Guanabara and the sugar loaf. Service is impecable, the villa has a very private feel. With a cigar room, a large living room and a small restaurant area which is also open to non-resident guests, however quite empty during our stay. The villa seems to be used for weddings given its location, great choice for this as well. We opted for a sunrise breakfast in the vast garden overlooking the city and Corcovado. The food is good, but lags behing the amazing hotel and location. This place is not cheap, but even for one or two nights, it is well worth the spent. Great location for special occasion.

BB is a Leblon highlight. A juice spot, like a bunch of other in the city, but it's literally one of a kind. There's only one in town, they didn't fall into the temptation of creating a big franchise chain and spread it all over the city, thus making it a high quality place for juice and snacks. Açaí juice is one of the best you'll ever get, meat and shrimp pastel are simply amazing, cheeseburger is simple and tasty, natural sandwiches as well, anything you try is worth.

I absolutely loved this spot. I ended up going for a acai or a juice almost every day on my trip. Its a great snack to have on a hot rio day. Quick service and best shrimp empanada we had. Must Try: - acai with any extra fruit addition -shrimp empandada - suco of anykind ( we loved coco and mango) if you don't like super sweet acai or juice then you can request "poco azucar" Only con is that they don't accept credit cards (only debit cards and cash) so when we ran out of cash we didn't go back my for my last fix LOL

A real hidden gem. Pretty difficult to find, got it recommended by a friend and was very sceptical while we were driving on smaller and smaller road. But once we got there it was worth the drive. Nice food in a beatiful setting. They also have rooms but we only had lunch there. We will come back for a night or weekend.

My recent visit to Baduk Café & Bar was a total letdown. Despite the enticing promise of pastrami and shawarma, none of the sandwiches contained any meat. As a pastrami aficionado from New York to São Paulo, I was excited by the prospect of authentic Jewish cuisine. However, what I received was far from standard. The "pastrami" sandwich was a sad excuse, lacking in both quantity and quality. Packed with pickled carrots sauteed onions and cauliflower, it barely resembled the hearty pastrami sandwiches I know. Even worse, the shawarma sandwich was similarly underwhelming, more akin to a hummus sandwich than anything else. For the price paid, the portions were shockingly small. Overall, my experience at Baduk Café & Bar felt like a blatant rip-off. If you're seeking genuine pastrami or shawarma, look elsewhere

The food had small portions. We went there and they said middles eastern cuisine but didn’t get that feel. I was hoping they would have Palestinian, Iraqi, Lebanese or Egyptian food but didn’t get that full experience. I would recommend another place for authentic middle eastern food.

This restaurant / cafe has potential but it’s not there yet. The food is good but as others have noted, the portions are too small relative to pricing. I got a chicken kebab and was surprised to be served a single thin kebab. Constructive feedback: Increase your portions!

Amazing middle eastern food heaven in Rio 😋🙏

The food is ok but the portion was absurdly small. Ordered this 4 dip plate twice and the second time they did not put even a teaspoon of hummus or baba ganoush on the plate. Will not return to a place with such portions that make me wonder what I paid for.

Very good place for breakfast! Their breakfast for two people actually serves up to four if you add extra juices/coffee. Keep in mind that it gets very busy, specially on weekends so try to arrive early, service can be a bit slow if it’s too crowded but it’s worth the wait!

Good portion sized omelettes, fresh fruit and lots of filling pastries to choose from! It’s not an incredibly fancy place to grab breakfast, but it gets the job done and the prices are affordable. Staff was kind and there’s not of space to sit outside and observe the sights and sounds of Rio while you munch!

Over the course of 2 weeks we went to Apetite Cafe 10 times. It’s great for breakfast or lunch. Everything is good and fresh and the ambiance feels very European! We don’t speak Portuguese and none of their staff spoke English but some Google translate and pointing at the menu did the trick. For a family of 5 this was an affordable option that did not disappoint. The baked goods and coffee are amazing! Best croissant ever.

If you want to have a decent breakfast experience in a local cafe, I defiantly don’t recommend this place. I ordered tapioca filled with eggs and I received almost empty tapioca, having just one lonely egg in the center. When I complained, waiter told me that on menu it shows “eggs” on singular, so of course it is just one. In a good café you expect a good experience without paying attention on those details. Waiter should have told me this. Instead of it she was very rude.

Fresh hot croissant, coffee and tapioca com queijo. Delicious. Aline (waitress) recognised us and gave us a hug- just like old friends. You cant get better service anywhere. If in Copacabana area you must go here for breakfast.

Open restaurant space in convenient area of Ipanema. Midway between Viera (beach) and Nossa Sra. metro. The dishes are indeed fresh, and they are good. The waiter warned that the Thai shrimp was spicy, but it wasn't that bad I'm lbad. My partner enjoyed the shrimp bobó. We were the only ones seated during our 90 minutes, early Thursday night. Thia would be fun to hang out on a hot, Brazilian summer night. It's slightly overpriced, even for this area. I don't feel slighted though - a good date.

Great place for late night snacks. We went there at 9pm, and they still had a variety of options to choose from. I liked the decaf coffee back with a cake; I had like 2 cups.! The service was great, and the price was reasonable too.

Good food and snack selections - Vegans too the place is good for working a few hours and very accessible for wheelchair users, as its free step entrance. Very unusual in old buildings in Centro great job you guys!! Hopefully they will sort out the bathroom issue they were having I like that you are welcome with your well behaved pet at the front of the cafe. Not many places welcome dogs. Torta Chocobelga Tropical is excellent. Espresso is decent, not great. Didn't feel much of a caffeine kick from it. Ham and cheese omelet decent; eggs taste a bit off. Tastes a little burnt with chemical flavor. Food was served VERY quickly despite being busy. One of the few places I encountered in Brazil that does not take Amex. Floors were dirty and chairs/tables felt low-quality.

This is a bit of an institution in Ipanema and you can get an okay breakfast here. The problem in our most recent visit was that the baked goods just weren't very good. The pastry on their pies and tarts was stodgy and unpleasant. The cakes were clearly kept in the window for several days as they all clearly displayed arrival and departure dates.

I chalked it up to a bad day and gave it another shot. Today I sat for 10 minutes without a greeting, menu, or anyone acknowledging me—while staff served other tables or stood idle. I eventually just left. It’s disappointing. The food isn’t enough to make up for the consistently dismissive service. I hope things improve, because this place was a gem.

We came to this cafe on our first day in Rio and we really liked it. Everything is delicious and the coffee is very good as well. Douglas did a very nice serving and was very welcoming.

The Fasano Hotel Rio features a beautiful setting and excellent amenities, but we had a few concerns during our stay. We felt uncomfortable when security questioned us about our stay upon returning from dinner, especially as another guest walked through the lobby shirtless. Additionally, breakfast hours should be extended to 11 am, as we missed it after our long flight from Australia. We were also disappointed by the inconsistent turn-down service, provided one night but not the next. Addressing these issues could greatly enhance the guest experience.

Arguably the best hotel views in Rio. The pool is amazing, and the bar staff are usually super friendly and attentive. Overall a good experience, but the noise inside the hotel was a letdown. The rooms aren’t well soundproofed, and we were often disturbed by noise from the hotel staff in the hallways. Breakfast is also underwhelming for the price (not included despite high rates).

Overview As I write this review, I am at breakfast with a smile on my face. We've spent four fantastic nights at Hotel Fasano and it was worth every penny! From the moment we arrived on 10 July (7:30am to be precise) the staff have been friendly and attentive. Check in was quick and the reception team went above and beyond to prepare two connecting rooms as soon as we arrived. Our rooms were ready at around 9:30am - 5.5 hours ahead of the scheduled check in time! Just awesome! After a long flight and travelling with two children, we couldn't have asked for more. Peter, from Guest Relations, is just awesome. He mingled with guests at breakfast time - checking in daily to ensure your stay was smooth. I also need to acknowledge the fantastic team serving us breakfast. They are simply AMAZING. Very attentive without being intrusive. Each morning breakfast was such a pleasurable experience. The staff couldn't do enough for us. There were also two additional individuals at reception who also made time to elevate our experience in Rio de Janeiro - Marcos and Juno (sorry for the misspelling) were super helpful. Now for a quick overview: Staff The staff are fantastic, and are a credit to the brand! Really friendly and always ready to help. Rooms: Rooms are spotless, a decent size and tastefully decorated. Housekeeping are fantastic! We had two connecting rooms in the corner of the hotel which worked well, as you had a main door which gave you access to two separate rooms. We had courtyard views, which we had booked but we spent all of our time outdoors, so it wasn't an issue for us. If you want amazing views, do not book a courtyard view. Restaurants: We sampled the Fasano Cafe for breakfast, which was excellent - something for everyone (and includes an A la carte menu). We also sampled the pool bar which serves tasty and fresh food. Room service is also fantastic. The service was quick and food arrived hot! A big tick in the box! How many times have you ordered room service for yourself and the children and it arrives luke warm or even cold?! Gym/Spa: We didn't visit the spa but the gym is adequate - enough to get a decent workout. Pool: There is one rooftop pool with spectacular views. It's well maintained and has a good number of sun loungers. However, it is small (understandably, given its location), so we did spend a lot of time trying to ensure our children did not disturb the other guests. Something to consider if you are travelling with children under 11. You may want to split your stay between two hotels (which is what we have done). Pool staff were attentive and did what was required. Location: Hotel Fasano faces Ipanema beach. You can't really ask for a better location! It is also a great location for visiting the main tourist attractions. Kid friendly: This is a child friendly hotel but, in my opinion, it is much better suited for adults, couples or families with older children. Value for money: Fasano is a luxury hotel and, on this occasion, we received the service we were expecting for this price point! In summary, a fantastic hotel and we would most certainly return! I had a generally pleasant stay at the hotel, but it doesn’t quite live up to its high reputation. The rooftop, while visually appealing, offers nothing remarkable. In fact, if you sit facing west, you’re greeted with an unappealing view of a wall and antenna, which detracts from the experience. The rooms are modern and well-decorated, but they don’t stand out compared to other hotels in the same category in Rio de Janeiro. The service on the rooftop was particularly disappointing. The staff’s English is quite basic, and their uniforms don’t align with the hotel’s supposed sophistication. More concerning, the service lacks the polish expected of a 5-star establishment. Waitstaff are inattentive; you often have to get up to get their attention. Worse still, they serve wine by handing you the glass directly instead of placing it on the table—a basic lapse in service etiquette. Overall, there’s no hint of sophistication, and the team could benefit from significant retraining. On a brighter note, the breakfast is fantastic, and the staff in the breakfast area are exceptional. The front desk team also deserves praise for their professionalism and helpfulness. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and comfortable, but beyond the aesthetics, it falls short of the standards I’ve experienced at other 5-star hotels in Rio. Given the Fasano’s reputation and price range, I expected much more.

My family and I spent my birthday at Fasano. It must be because Brazilians are generally nice and welcoming because every single employee was nice and helpful. They made sure my stay was special. We had two different rooms. The courtyard view room was large and tastefully decorated, featuring a wraparound balcony; the one with the sea view was simply exceptional. Breakfast was excellent. The rooftop is nice, lovely views. It was great to have sun beds on the beach. Ipanema Beach is quite beautiful, especially in the morning. It's also well situated to be just a short walking distance from the Copacabana beach, where all the activities take place. Spa was also nice. Without a doubt, our favourite hotel to date. I would return tomorrow.

Special mention to Cissa - the experience manager - who personified the warmth and hospitality you would want from a top hotel (but rarely ever get). The breakfast was perfect and we ate several times in the restaurant- always delicious. The ocean view is more than worth it - truly spectacular location. Its not inexpensive- but at least it was definitely worth it.

This hotel has an excellent location on Copacabana beach. We stayed in a junior ocean suite and the room was spacious with beautiful views and a great balcony to sit on. A couple of things that were a bit disappointing, given it’s a five star hotel: 1) After the first (and only night) my husband realised there was a plank of wood in his half of the bed, making it very uncomfortable. We have no idea how the staff could have let this happen. In the morning, we flagged it to reception and they removed it. No offer of compensation was provided and they didn’t even mention it (or apologise) during check-out. 2) We ate in the Restaurant Emile and were very disappointed that there were so few vegetarian options on the menu (only one main - a very boring mushroom pasta). Also, despite a 15% service charge being applied to all food and drinks ordered, there was an additional entry for “tip” on the bill, which we felt was unnecessary. We’ve stayed at other five star hotels in Rio (Fasano, Copacabana Palace) and this was the only place that has done this.

Well, we booked a standard room with an internal view — which basically means no real windows. Even if you pull the curtains inside, there are curtains on the outside too, so the room gets absolutely no natural light. On top of that, the smell was terrible, very damp and humid, almost like a basement. I had to change rooms because it was unbearable, but unfortunately my first night was ruined. They didn’t offer any compensation for the inconvenience. The only positives I can mention are the kindness and helpfulness of the staff, and the hotel’s location.

My recent experience at Hotel Emiliano Rio de Janeiro was deeply disappointing and entirely inconsistent with the standard of excellence the establishment claims to offer. During my stay, I encountered structural and sanitary conditions unacceptable for a hotel of this category, including: - Strong mold odor throughout the room; - Visible mold on the air-conditioning vents; - A curtain that fell during the night, preventing adequate rest; - Stained and unhygienic upholstery; - A coffee table with a cracked marble top; - A damaged bathroom floor, posing a physical safety risk to guests. In addition, the hotel prohibited visitors from entering the guest room, citing an internal policy that was never presented at check-in. To this date, the hotel manager, Ms. Milena Monte, as well as the general manager, Mr. Victor Massetti (copied in my correspondence), have refused to provide a copy of the alleged document, despite my formal request supported by Article 6, item III, of the Brazilian Consumer Protection Code (Law No. 8.078/1990). It is important to highlight that the hotel itself authorized the entry of a professional from the Mr. Hair Club salon into my room on the day of check-in, which demonstrates inconsistency and contradiction in applying this rule, constituting a violation of the principle of good faith (Article 422 of the Brazilian Civil Code). It is unacceptable for a luxury hotel to treat guests in this manner — lacking transparency, accountability, and even the most basic standards of hygiene and respect for the consumer’s right to information. Our rooms at the Emiliano had a spectacular view of Copacabana Beach, they were spacious and comfortable. We loved the extras such as a daily treat delivered to our rooms late each afternoon, the fruit when we arrived, and the delicious breakfasts. The gym, sauna, and steam overlooked the beach and provided a quiet respite from a busy day of touring. We enjoyed the luxury of the Emiliano and highly recommend it!
