Talho Capixaba in Leblon, Rio de Janeiro, is a charming bakery and deli with a rich Portuguese heritage. Originally a butcher shop, it has transformed into a celebrated delicatessen. The venue offers a cozy setting for breakfast or brunch, featuring artisanal breads, homemade pastries, and an array of imported French products such as pate and sweet jams. Guests can also indulge in a variety of cheeses and mouthwatering cakes made with natural ingredients.
Usually pretty busy. Have to keep an eye out for a table. Only outdoor seating is available. Great melted cheese and ham sandwich on a croissant and fresh orange juice.
Julia S — Google review
The food was great, the bread and pastries are amazingly baked. The fruit salad was not that good, most of the fruits were not ripe enough. The coffee was delicious. The ambience was super busy and there was loud live music as well so don’t expect being able to hold a conversation while sitting outside.
Dániel P — Google review
After a coffee craving, we fell upon this lovely place. More than just coffee they have great desserts and pastry. We tried the pastel de nata and a chicken and cheese pastry. All three delicious accompaniments to our double espressos.

A beautiful bakery-cafe and a delicacy store where you can find great Brazilian delicacies. You can have a nice brunch here on the vibrant and tree lined Av Ataulfo de Paiva in the heart of the upscale area of Rio, Leblon. The food is tasty and well presented . Sit at a table outside on the pavement to get one with the energy of the heart of Leblon. But don't forget to go inside and spend some time to see the delicacies and maybe buy something to bring back home.
Marios T — Google review
We had a delecious breakfast here yesterday. Both Alex and Lawanda are top-notch servers. They are pleasant and were quick to bring our food. We really like the vibe here as it is great for people watching. This is the 3rd summer (it is winter for Rio) in a row that we have stayed in Leblon, and we always always dine here, shop for fresh meats, cheeses, and other last-minute groceries. Thank you, Talho Capixaba!
Nora B — Google review
Average regular bakery with a good variety of bread, but subpar quality overall. It’s outside seating is a mess and poorly managed. If you’re looking for “café da manhã” experience just go next door for a good old style padaria.
Mario L — Google review
Amazing Breakfast, reasonable price. I come here because my local friends recommended it ando totally loved it. I've seen in the walls this restaurant is one of the most awarded in the city. Spent no more than 50 reais (15 USD) in coffee and sandwich. Bread is baked here so is for sure fresh.

Talho is my favorite breakfast , late lunch, or even dinner spot. From all baked goods, to Brazilian specialties, soups and sandwiches !! Ah ! Ah… and delicious pastries . My favorite spot ! Went also on the Ipanema and Tamirez was just great !! Always helpful, and attentive! Thank you TAMIREZ!!!

Café 18 do Forte, located within the picturesque grounds of Copacabana Fort, offers a delightful dining experience with stunning views of Rio. The menu features a variety of options from breakfast to lunch, including brunch specialties and fresh seafood dishes. Guests can savor their meals al-fresco while enjoying the refreshing sea breeze and taking in the panoramic ocean views.
I love this place, every time I come to Rio I try to have breakfast here at least once. The view is one of a kind! This year I came for my birthday and they gave me a piece of cake with a candle!! 🎂🎉 Always recommend the breakfast for 2, it’s just great! Service is excellent, I’m allergic to nuts and they gave me two extra yogurts with fruit because the regular ones have granola with peanuts. Love it here 💛 Arrive early to get a table by the sea!
Francisca N — Google review
Café 18 do Forte exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed not only by the beautiful setting but also by the warm and attentive service. The location is absolutely unique – right by the ocean, offering one of the best views of Copacabana you could possibly imagine. Sitting at a table with the sea just a few meters away, enjoying the breeze and the sound of the waves while being served fresh, delicious food, made the entire experience unforgettable. The dishes were beautifully presented and tasted even better than they looked. Everything I ordered was full of flavor and freshness – from the starters to the main course, each bite felt thoughtfully prepared with high-quality ingredients. The salad was crisp and refreshing, the fish perfectly grilled, and the pairing with local beer was spot on. What really made it stand out, apart from the food, was the relaxed yet elegant atmosphere. It’s a place where you can take your time, enjoy every moment, and simply let the scenery do its magic. I can honestly say this was one of the most enjoyable meals I’ve had in Rio. Highly recommended for anyone looking for both amazing food and a breathtaking setting.
Va Z — Google review
Came here for a light lunch while visiting the Fort. I must say that everything exceeded my expectations. The views of Copacabana Beach and Sugarloaf Mountain were slightly obscured by mist, but the food and service made up for it. Both the prawn and tuna salads were delicious, with good portion sizes. Also good wine by the glass and beers. Service was quick and attentive. Highly recommended.
David S — Google review
The view was breathtaking! I had a cold coconut cake and a Pavlova, both of which were very sweet, so you'll want to drink plenty of water with them. Other than that, the service was excellent, and the scenery was simply beautiful. I highly recommend visiting, especially since you can enjoy another view from the beach. A quick reminder: you can only use cash to enter the base!
Yumi N — Google review
Very beautiful view over the ocean, but the food was not it. I’m traveling solo and they were only offering brunch for only 2 people minimum so I had to pick different things from the menu. The food came cold and so was my waffle was hard as a stone. My cappuccino was also cold apart from that stunning view.
Cinzia I — Google review
The sweet food is better than the savory food. My meal was simply okay, but my iced caramel coffee was delicious and so was the waffles and French toast.
Kara M — Google review
The view is stunning, but the service is really slow. It took more than 45 minutes from the moment they took my order to when the food finally arrived and it was cold ❄️ I ordered a dessert and another drink, but the drink never arrived ❌ When it came time to pay, there were many connection problems. I highly recommend avoiding ordering here and instead trying one of the neighboring restaurants that offer the same view.
Omar S — Google review
Beautiful spot overlooking Copacabana beach. Our light lunch included a tuna melt with generous helpings of tuna and cheese between two thick slices of grilled sourdough plus a shrimp salad. The Caiprinha was perfect! Enjoyed our visit. Just mention at the gate that you’re going to the cafe to skip the entrance fees.

Breakfast restaurant
Café do Alto is a vibrant restaurant located in Santa Teresa's bustling square, Largo do Guimaraes. It offers a buffet with over thirty options for breakfast at a set price per person. The menu features dishes from Brazil's Northeast, including tapioca pancakes and moqueca, a seafood stew with vegetarian-friendly versions available. The colorful setting is adorned with cultural references, creating an inviting atmosphere.
Amazing place! The decor is beautiful, the food is absolutely delicious (I had the brunch option). The waiter I had was very kind and helped me order by explaining the dishes. Highly recommend 💚
Ri N — Google review
I liked the service, a very attentive young waiter speaking well English was trying to help me to choose my meal. But I did not like the whole concept of this place. I felt very lost. It is chaotic and everything is written in Portuguese only. If you don’t understand it, you lose too much time while choosing something from a variety of things on the menu. The food is eatable, but not really tasty. The drinks contain too much water.
B O — Google review
A lovely vegan café with a relaxed, positive vibe. Café Alto serves creative, freshly prepared dishes with rich, surprising flavors – even non-vegans will be impressed. Everything is made with love, and the ingredients taste fresh and local. The staff is warm and welcoming.

Restaurant
Confeitaria Colombo is a historic café-restaurant located in downtown Rio, offering a glimpse into the city's 'golden age.' The elegant setting features ornate chandeliers and jacaranda wood mirrors, creating an opulent atmosphere for breakfasts, brunches, and afternoon teas. This century-old establishment was once the center of social gatherings and political intrigue during Rio's belle epoque era.
Enjoyed a nice break on a rainy day. Waited 20 minutes to get in. Shared a ham and cheese sandwich so that we could order dessert!! Too full to finish desserts. Beautiful place!
Randy E — Google review
Given the location, it is undoubtedly amazing but the service was disappointing. I understand that maybe because it was a Sunday afternoon, probably a long day however you can tell the unwillingness to work —The food, small portion and nothing special. If you are looking for a place to post on social media, this is perfect for you but if you want a real food/cafe there are bunch of them around way better than this tourist trap
Paolo B — Google review
Very beautiful place, it reeks history, but very full and loud, it doesn't let you enjoy the meal! I recommend you to order only the pastry if not you will wait a lot! The food is 7/10 and desserts 10/10 (the flan is really creamy and delicious)
Juan G — Google review
We chose the restaurant thanks to recommendations, but it was an extremely bad experience for us. Terrible attitude of the staff, catastrophic conditions of seating comfort, broken chairs, a lot of noise, a mess on the floor. Despite repeated requests to clean the table, we had to clean it ourselves. We spent almost an hour of our vacation here waiting for a table. Despite the name order of the guests, the staff let other guests who had passed us in, the staff told us curtly that they had a reservation. We did not see any information about reservations on the tables. They all passed us in several times, despite the fact that we had a reservation card. Very worried, we got up and left, preferring not to ruin our vacation. We do not recommend a visit, it has nothing to do with a gastronomic, relaxing and relaxing experience. Disappointing waste of time.
Peter B — Google review
Overhyped. Looking deeper into what it offers beyond the appearances, it’s nothing worth visiting again in my opinion. Yes, waiters wearing a tie, and the long queue might make you think it will be a special experience for the prices you’ll be charged. Unfortunately not, food is just average, waiters don’t speak much else other than Portuguese, with no awareness of when to serve what’s being ordered. They will deliver the food as soon as it’s ready. So we got the coffee and eclair served before the main dishes. I don’t who eats in this way but that’s what happens if you order everything at the same time in this place. The worst part is that the food is not even freshly prepared. For example, the beirut pita sandwich with fillet mignon, eggs and salad is reheated. The result is a bland and soggy sandwich…disappointing. The eclair was not fresh either. The only things we found to be good were the carpaccio and the coffee. Before paying they’ll parade a basket full of sweets and chocolate in the hope they’ll get you to buy more stuff And when you’re finally about to step out, you’ll be asked for 60r$ for a printed photograph..yeah, that trick they pull off at the beginning once you got past the queue. I don’t know what makes them think this is what makes clients enjoy their time in this place.
Alexandru I — Google review
This is the pre-eminent coffee house to experience when wandering the historic heart of Rio de Janeiro’s Centro district. With a legacy spanning over 130 years, it has long been the cherished gathering place of Brazil’s literary giants, visionary artists, sharp-witted intellectuals, elegant socialites, and influential politicians. Step inside and you’re instantly wrapped in old-world charm and cultural reverie - if only these walls could talk, they’d whisper secrets of revolutions, romances, and masterpieces born over a steaming cup of cappuccino and a piece of their scrumptious Pastel de Belém. In reality, it’s far less mystical, mythical, or romantic. Thanks to its fame, a queue snakes out front well before the shutters roll up at 11:00 sharp. Then comes the mad dash - some scramble upstairs for a quieter perch, others cling to the ground floor for the hustle and bustle. Orders are placed through an e-menu (hardly charming), but redemption comes in the form of crisp uniforms and waiters starched to perfection serving the food on real China and silverware. A trip to Colombo isn’t just about the food - fortunately - because when it comes to culinary excitement, it’s more middling than memorable. Go for the history, the charm, the chaos… just don’t arrive hungry for greatness.
Eddie C — Google review
Historial café to visit, the service is kinda bad and the rest of food isn’t amazing either. You can order to go But worths the visit for the place + the Capuchino Colombo was really nice

I have heard about this place before. I have decided to visit it. The experience was good.. and worth the wait. I had tried some Brazilian delicacies named Brigadeiro and it was delicious . And tried a well known appetizer known as Pão de queijo . The prices are reasonable for such a place. Nice architecture and friendly staff. I recommend visiting this place.

Curto Café is a unique coffee spot located in the back of a small commercial gallery in Rio de Janeiro. The café operates on a pay-what-you-feel system, with all expenses transparently displayed for customers to gauge a sustainable price. Their high-quality coffee beans arrive weekly from Espirito Santos and are skillfully crafted into delicious cappuccinos and espressos by the friendly staff.
This place is a gem.✨ The coffee is amazing, the best in Rio I’ve had & the owner and everyone who works there are very cheerful, happy and helpful. I’ve tasted several different brews and was impressed by the quality of the coffee. Wish I could visit again, lots of love (The girl from Egypt 🇪🇬)

A "must" for coffee lovers! Unfortunately it is one of the few places of this kind from Rio. The guys were very friendly, giving relevant information about the products. A great approach. There is the possibility to have several types of coffee that they sell in the form of espresso or latte. Tasting of different types of coffee is also possible. You can even brew your own coffee. You can pay for the coffee as much as you think it is worth it. Pay by yourself using card. A truely unique and wonderful experience. Highly recommend!
Attila K — Google review
The owner of the place and the personnel was so friendly that we visited this cafe two times in our stay in Rio de Janeiro. We had the opportunity to have a chat and felt like we already knew each other. Leo helps you try preparing your own coffee if you like, it was quite an experience. We got some freshly grounded coffee and they were so kind to prepare them elaborately in separate packages. These were gifts for our friends. We had some coffee for ourselves too and enjoyed every sip of it when we were at 10thousand kilometers away!

Nestled in the serene Botanical Garden neighborhood, La Bicyclette is a delightful French bakery and bistro that transports you straight to Paris. This charming spot, founded by Henri Forcellino and his Brazilian wife Ana Paula Gentil, began as a humble home-based venture delivering freshly baked goods by bicycle. Today, it has blossomed into two locations where visitors can indulge in artisanal breads, flaky croissants, and delectable pastries like pain au chocolat.
Always tasty meals, fresh breads, and good pour-over coffee. The pastries as exceptional! I love the lassi drink with mango and mint & the pain au chocolate. Highly recommend having a sandwich on a baguette, or salad (good size), or the croissant stuffed with strawberries and nutella. Since 2017 this has been my favorite cafe in Rio. I always feel welcome and peaceful at La Bicyclette. 🚲🥖🥐☕ Enjoy your visit too!

We went for a brunch. The place was very cosy both inside and outside. However, my girlfriend and I were truly disappointed with the service attitude. My girlfriend wanted to order a breakfast menu which included a natural juice. She asked if she could mix two fruits for the juice and said that she would even pay the price difference. Ten service however was extremely inflexible and ruled out such possibility. Zero customer-centric! Moreover, service brought a fried egg instead of a scrambled one. The fried eggs were initially too soft (a significant part of the eggwhite was still liquid). Also as I was about to finish with one of my plates the waitress asked if she could remove the plate; yet, before having answered that I wasn’t done yet she removed it. Food-wise it was good. The waffles were excellent, so were the juices. The avocado toasts were extremely difficult to eat and overall a bit bland in terms of flavour. The coffee was good.
Moritz M — Google review
It’s one of my go-to spots! The food is super tasty, always feels fresh, and I love that there are tons of vegetarian and vegan options. The staff is really friendly, which adds to the chill vibe. Service is usually quick, especially after the breakfast rush. It can get a little slow in the morning just because it gets packed. I really like sitting outside at the round tables when the weather’s nice. It’s relaxed and casual, and great for hanging out. Inside is nice too if you want something quieter. They’ve got lots of juices! For soda lovers, being your own coca-cola: they don’t serve soda. Parking can be hit or miss depending on the time, so I usually just Uber there to keep it simple.
Luana H — Google review
Expectations were kind of high of this one and not fullfilled unfortunately. Recommended to have great coffee and great ambient, I was expecting speciality level - what I found was a decent bakery with some coffee options. To be fair, the bread really was good and the bowls around us looked great, too. Minus one star due to quite basic coffee. Ambient is nice next to the gardens, especially with their Veranda. Service was great.
Daniel W — Google review
They had a varied range of pastries and cakes, which looked scrumptious. After a quick browse we knew that we had to try some of these. We sat at one of the tables outside and were offered a QR code to see the menu in English. This place didn’t just do baked goods, it also offered a wide range of breakfast items and sandwiches. We stuck to ordering some cakes. Unfortunately the one I really wanted to try which was Apple, Walnut and Cinnamon was only available as a large cake. I had to change to something else and chose Orange and Almond cake. Something got lost in translation as I ended up with an Almond Croissant. I just went with it and it was nice. My husband ordered an apple tart and crostine. The crostine was twisted delicate filo pastry integrated with little bursts of chocolate. It was a much lighter alternative to a pain au chocolate. The apple tart was simply delightful. The firm yet soft slices apple sat in a perfect sticky glacé on a bed of solid yet almost biscuity base. It teamed well with the coffee he had ordered. Along with this I chose a Pink Lemonade. This was like having a fruity mojito without the alcohol. There were full pieces of raspberry and blackberry in it.

Outstanding! Both to take out and to eat and and sit outside. Incredible cake and food and extremely friendly service. Great vibes and perfect after visiting before/after the botanical gardens.

Healthy breakfast. Excellent quality and fresh ingredients. We enjoyed the organic açaí. Mango papaya lassi. Pineapple and watermelon juice. The ham croissant Benedict was excellent. My gf loved her avocado and smoked salmon toast. Waitresses are very friendly and prompt. Excellent service and excellent breakfast brunch. No AmEx. Only Visa MC.

this experience at this place has by far been the WORST SERVICE I’ve ever experienced. My husband and i ordered food using an English menu list. We waited for a long time before I had to signal a waiter (a young man) to take our paper with our orders marked on it. In hindsight, maybe this would have been a warning sign already. We initially received one water bottle when I clearly wrote two on the order. And then… we waited for 45 minutes and there was still no sign of our order. And no one came to check??? I was staring at the waiters and waitresses at the 30min mark, but no one even bothered to come by. We noticed a few people coming and leaving after being notified something about the kitchen. Then my husband went to ask the staff and they told us we only ordered water. This is impossible: 1. How can they miss ALL of the other food items we ordered but just managed to see the drinks on the same piece of paper?! 2. If there are some items are not available to order, why did NO ONE notify us after we placed our order??! 3. 45 MINUTES. We waited for 45 minutes until we had to ask ourselves about our order because no one bothered to ask why we were sitting there with our drinks for so long. Super slow service. And after all of that, in order to placate us, they said our drinks were for free (two bottles of 300ml of water). Wow, what a big consolation that was. I have never even been so angry and upset at an experience and i consider myself a calm person. Ruined my whole day. Visit was on 3rd March 2025 at around 3pm. First and LAST visit. Will definitely not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Found this place while walking around the Lagoa area and we loved the sandwiches here! They have gotten several awards and certifications for their food and it definitely lived up to expectations. It was packed around 2pm tho and our table arrangement for 4 people was a bit weird.

Not recommended. One menu pice of paper for everyone is a horrible idea, the waitress and all service disorganized, poor and bad food presentation.

Really enjoyed our brunch here. I think because we didn’t speak Portuguese, we didn’t get our full order and had to keep asking. Other than that, it was an overall good experience.

Amazing food options for everyone who eats meat to vegan. We ordered couvert and bruschetta was delicious with varied breads and the dippings. In the main course we ordered quiche with goat cheese and quinoa with cashews and pesto de salsa. The staff is very polite and quick in service. The cheese bread with gruyere cheese is to die for. Must visit place also they have received best breakfast awards for 2 years consecutively. Waiting to go there for breakfast.

Bakery
Gringo Cafe is a small eatery that offers a casual and fun atmosphere, serving sandwiches, salads, desserts, and brunch all day. It caters to North Americans craving tastes from home with favorites like hash browns, pancakes, waffles, French toast, cakes, milkshakes, and cheeseburgers made with imported American cheese. The breakfast menu is available all day and includes bacon and eggs prepared in various ways.
Absolutely love the food here but the service is quite slow. Thank God the food is delicious, it is worth the wait! I highly recommend the buttermilk waffles with fried chicken. Eat them with hot sauce - yum! My husband had the breakfast set with biscuits, cheesy omelette and homemade turkey sausage - also delicious! The food is like what you find in a diner in small town America. Feels nostalgic of the time I spent in Amherst, Massachusetts. I would definitely come again and perhaps try the pancakes 🥞!
N H — Google review
Gringo Café is hands down one of the best breakfast spots in Rio! We visited twice, and both experiences were fantastic. On our first visit, I had the Farmhouse Breakfast, which was fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. We also tried the spicy buffalo chicken strips, which had just the right kick, and my partner thoroughly enjoyed his grilled chicken club sandwich. The portion sizes were generous, making it a great value. On our second visit, I opted for the sausage, egg, and cheese scramble, and once again, the quality and taste were top-notch. Whether you’re a local or visiting, Gringo Café is an absolute must-try. The food, atmosphere, and experience make it well worth any wait!

Best food, we’ve tried other spots and nothing tastes like home compared to this place. Lou is the best server of all time. They have incredible english and are honestly so kind we came here for breakfast 4 days out of the 5 in rio. Nothing better than here

This place is the best! The breakfast food is so good, my friends and I loved going here during our weeklong stay in Rio. Plenty of options and the drinks are very fresh and delicious as well. This is a better spot than some places in the United States! It’s super casual and a little limited on seating but during the times we went, it was not crowded and naturally we were into other Americans that were in town.

This place is a fantastic option for breakfast after a night out as they have bacon eggs, and french fries. This is a great place. You have never seen a place like this before so nice so American. Great people delicious food.

The Brazilians try to recreate American 🇺🇸 food 🥘 dishes. Come early the place is small and always has a line. 15 minutes is normal wait time for a table. I was very pleased 😀 today. Breakfast all day people..,🤗
William W — Google review
This cafe is great if you're looking for simple breakfasts that feel home cooked and are natural. I ordered the waffle, a strawberry blueberry smoothie and the body builder breakfast (egg whites, cured salmon, and fruit). It came out to $30USD so demerit recommend cooking at home if you can, but still if not, you can pay a bit more and have them prepare that feel good home cooked meal for you. Also the service is very nice, wifi, and small TV for games.

Baduk Café & Bar offers a unique dining experience with its flavorful and well-seasoned dishes. The menu features inventive combinations, such as the Lamb with Sicilian lemon preserve and rustic hominy polenta. The atmosphere is beautiful and pleasant, accompanied by attentive service that explains the menu items in detail. Guests can enjoy a variety of delicious options, including shawarma, hummus platters, red pepper dip, and cauliflower tempura.
What a lucky find. Hidden not far from my hotel, Baduk was a memorable bite of this trip - perhaps the best lamb I’ve had in a long time. Aesthetic, quality ingredients, creative, thoughtful, clean food. I’m very (!) picky and health conscious - this place hit the spot and made my day. Sababa 💙
Anna S — Google review
My recent visit to Baduk Café & Bar was a total letdown. Despite the enticing promise of pastrami and shawarma, none of the sandwiches contained any meat. As a pastrami aficionado from New York to São Paulo, I was excited by the prospect of authentic Jewish cuisine. However, what I received was far from standard. The "pastrami" sandwich was a sad excuse, lacking in both quantity and quality. Packed with pickled carrots sauteed onions and cauliflower, it barely resembled the hearty pastrami sandwiches I know. Even worse, the shawarma sandwich was similarly underwhelming, more akin to a hummus sandwich than anything else. For the price paid, the portions were shockingly small. Overall, my experience at Baduk Café & Bar felt like a blatant rip-off. If you're seeking genuine pastrami or shawarma, look elsewhere

incredible flavours from the drink til the dessert! definitely worth checking it out
Anton G — Google review
The food had small portions. We went there and they said middles eastern cuisine but didn’t get that feel. I was hoping they would have Palestinian, Iraqi, Lebanese or Egyptian food but didn’t get that full experience. I would recommend another place for authentic middle eastern food.

This restaurant / cafe has potential but it’s not there yet. The food is good but as others have noted, the portions are too small relative to pricing. I got a chicken kebab and was surprised to be served a single thin kebab. Constructive feedback: Increase your portions!
K O — Google review
A disappointing experience overall. The food was overpriced with shockingly small portions and lacked any authentic flavor. It felt like one of those tourist-trap restaurants that clearly doesn’t care if you ever come back. Definitely not worth the money — I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Gaia Art & Cafe is a vegetarians paradise, with dishes that are both healthy and delicious. The cafe is located in a small neighbourhood of Leme and offers great coffee as well as delicious vegetarian sandwiches. The burgers at Gaia Art & Cafe are perfect for a cheap meal, with the guarantee of both vegan and vegetarian approval.
Very good food with clearly labelled vegan options, the rest is vegetarian. Great to have a veggie/vegan cafe on Copacabana as it’s not easy to find them. The vegan pao de queijo was such a treat after not finding any elsewhere. I also had the feijoda and the fresh fruit juices were also really nice
Sarah K — Google review
Great mellow vibe that makes you feel at home immediately. The staff is very friendly and the menu looks great. I was a little bit disappointed by the number of real vegan products, but the flavors and the tastes were okay. A bit strange to get the starter after the main course, but I imagine something went wrong in the kitchen they forgot to tell me when I got my hamburger. The life music was really nice and customers were even dancing. Loved it.
Erik M — Google review
The effort to bring more vegetarian and diverse options to meat and canned beer filled Rio alone deserves five stars. However, there are some problems here. While food is interesting and tasteful (try the excellent vegetarian feijoada- an oxymoron that actually works!), there are some problems that made me turn my back on it: The service is extremely slow and, though mostly friendly, inattentive and sloppy. The servers are busy with the mobiles all the time. The place has recently been refurbished which makes it pretty, but comes with very bad acoustics. It is so loud that you can hardly talk. Worst, however, and the reason this place should be avoided at least for the near future: on the height of Rio’s contaminated-tap-water crisis, ongoing since early January 2020, they still use it for their juices. They claim it runs through a filter, but we easily identified the muddy smell and murky taste coming from the bacteria that plague the city’s water. A little too organic and cheap for my taste - and health. So wait, until Rio’s tap water is (more or less) safe again!

Probably one of the best veggie restaurant I had while traveling. My family loved it and it was their first veggie restaurant ever. Tried the falafel burger, delicious. Big falafels inside which was great. Their desserts are very good as well. I will go back for sure before leaving Rio. 😍

A cute little cafe near the beach in Copacabana. The food was okay but the coffee was a let down. My partner and I weren’t the biggest fan of the food. However, the service here is amazing! They took the time to look at the menu and was able to accomodate for dietary needs.

It is hard to find purely vegan/vegetarian restaurant in Rio. Luckily Gaia happens to be one very near to the beach. The quality and dvarieties of the food is nice and they have some combinations to offer too. The quantity of the food is good enough to fill up the tummy. The other aspect that catches attention is the presence of musical instruments and some ethnic artistic patterns painted in and out of the place. The owner/Manager lady and the staff are very cooperative and courteous.

Apetite Café is a charming spot that captures the hearts of both locals and travelers with its inviting ambiance and scrumptious offerings. Renowned for its freshly baked goods, particularly the croissants, this café also serves an impressive breakfast spread that includes a delightful assortment of items like eggs, ham, cheese, and fresh fruit. The European-inspired vibe combined with cozy outdoor seating creates an ideal setting for leisurely meals.
WOWWWWW I will dream about this meal forever & always. We showed up for a late breakfast and had to wait a bit for a table for 4 (like 20 min). It was so worth it! The complete breakfast was more than complete - it had a bread basket, fresh papaya, eggs, ham, cheese, and jam, along with coffee. We splurged and got some cake, too. Highly recommend. Wish I had gotten a chocolate croissant because they looked SO good but I was so full after eating that I couldn’t even look at any food for a few hours. It’s got a cute set-up tucked into a neighborhood and yet still super close to the beaches. Beautiful plants all over the street make it a delicious tropical oasis in the middle of the city. Seriously, 5 stars!!!

Very good place for breakfast! Their breakfast for two people actually serves up to four if you add extra juices/coffee. Keep in mind that it gets very busy, specially on weekends so try to arrive early, service can be a bit slow if it’s too crowded but it’s worth the wait!

Good portion sized omelettes, fresh fruit and lots of filling pastries to choose from! It’s not an incredibly fancy place to grab breakfast, but it gets the job done and the prices are affordable. Staff was kind and there’s not of space to sit outside and observe the sights and sounds of Rio while you munch!

Over the course of 2 weeks we went to Apetite Cafe 10 times. It’s great for breakfast or lunch. Everything is good and fresh and the ambiance feels very European! We don’t speak Portuguese and none of their staff spoke English but some Google translate and pointing at the menu did the trick. For a family of 5 this was an affordable option that did not disappoint. The baked goods and coffee are amazing! Best croissant ever.
Aenglema1 — Google review
If you want to have a decent breakfast experience in a local cafe, I defiantly don’t recommend this place. I ordered tapioca filled with eggs and I received almost empty tapioca, having just one lonely egg in the center. When I complained, waiter told me that on menu it shows “eggs” on singular, so of course it is just one. In a good café you expect a good experience without paying attention on those details. Waiter should have told me this. Instead of it she was very rude.

I go here every time I’m in Rio for the best breakfast. High quality food at good value. Went yesterday, not been for 5 years, and the waitress remembered me! No, I don’t have two heads. Well worth a visit. 10/10 Here again, a year later! Everything exactly the same- delicious as always. Back in Rio. First morning and breakfast had to be at Apetite. Fresh hot croissant, coffee and tapioca com queijo. Delicious. Aline (waitress) recognised us and gave us a hug- just like old friends. You cant get better service anywhere. The Slow Bakery is a renowned artisanal bakery in Rio de Janeiro, offering a variety of sourdough breads, grilled cheese sandwiches, sweet treats, and cold brew coffee. The original location in Botafogo has expanded to include a new shop in Ipanema that focuses solely on selling natural-yeast bread. This expansion aligns with the bakery's commitment to the slow-food ethos.
Wonderful little bakery an easy and safe walk from the local train station. Firstly the inviting smell once inside and friendly service, including English friendly. I had the croque and it was sensational, is this the best I've had 🤔 I'd say a resounding yes! The sourness if the bread is spot on, the ham is the right kind without the strong flavour and paired with the right amount of cheese. The coffee is quite good as well, good standard flavour from Brazilian coffee.

Amazing bakery. We went here multiple times while in Rio and every time it was great. All the dishes we tried were amazing and their bread and pastries were great. This is by far the best bakery in Rio and a level above the rest. Their croissants are good, the BLT was really nice with thick cut bacon and the coffee is great. This bakery would hold it’s own even in cities like London and Melbourne. I highly recommend

Wide selection of yummy baked goods! Recommend Went in a Sunday for brunch. Immediately brought inside to a waiting area and then seated at a table for 3 in about 5 minutes. Ordered Eggs Benedict (served on great brioche), Croque Madame (decent, not the absolute best I’ve had), PBJ served on sourdough and toasted (probably the best) and a cold brew, and Vietnamese coffee (too sweet, coffee not bitter enough). Service was efficient, staff spoke enough English to communicate. Prices are reasonable by US standards ($30 for everything, about 200 reals) Would recommend for brunch!

Even tho the quality of the bread is good, the pricing is ridiculous. We went to buy focaccia and they gave us a 2 (!) DAYS OLD piece for 28 reais, while in other places the fresh one is cheaper, or 50% for the yesterday batch. Very unexpected and disappointing

One of the worst tasting decaf coffees I’ve ever tasted, honestly foul. Air con wasn’t working properly so it was unbearably hot inside. They added a 10% service charge, just for a quick coffee? Confeitaria Rio Lisboa is a renowned confectionery and bakery in Leblon, steeped in tradition since its establishment in 1943. It offers a unique blend of bakery, confectionery, and grocery items within a welcoming environment that includes tables and counters. Open 24/7, it's a hub for locals to enjoy classic Carioca snacks or savor an authentic cafezinho.
Great cafe/market. Several bakery goods, groceries, and foods. You can eat in at the stool bar or at ables outside. Friendly and helpful staff. Rotisserie chicken available to be cut up and put in a to go container. Prepay for breakfast sandwiches, coffee, and juice to order and eat in.

A traditional PADOCA from Leblon that never goes out of style. I was born and raised in Leblon and this bakery brings back delicious memories in addition to its own treats.

Only go to this place if you speak Portuguese. You will be overcharged as a foreigner. The 1st time this happened, I thought I had ordered wrong. The 2nd and now the 3rd time I realize this was true. My Portuguese friend went with me and ordered the same thing for $10.00 less than I was charged. Chicken is good but beware the prices.

Regular breakfast: ham and cheese sandwich with over easy egg plus mate leão with lemon. Pure plain coffee to complement. Nice place also to buy fast track groceries and tasteful chicken with potatoes for lunch

I just love this place. If you want to feel the neighborhood atmosphere, be in the place where almost everyone has known almost everyone for at least 30 years, and you want to try a real cafezinho or some of the classic Carioca snacks, or perhaps take a roasted chicken home, this is the place!

This coffee store is a great place to go for a cup of coffee in Rio de Janeiro. The atmosphere is cozy and the coffee is excellent. They have a wide variety of coffees from all over Brazil, making it the perfect spot for anyone looking for some great coffee. The food here is also fantastic and they have something for everyone.
A place that cares about their coffee. Me and my partner went here and had the filtered coffee and it was as good as expected. The service was very friendly and efficient, allowing us to smell the just-ground coffee beans prior to brewing. We ordered some toast as well which was just as good and hit the spot. They also had additional seating upstairs so plenty of room. We didn’t have chance to try any of their baked goods but they look very appealing on display! All in all, would recommend for the coffee and service for fellow travellers

What a great place for all coffee lovers!! Great staff, lovely location and great ice coffee - had a cappuccino cold. Good food and snack selections - Vegans too the place is good for working a few hours and very accessible for wheelchair users, as its free step entrance. Very unusual in old buildings in Centro great job you guys!! Hopefully they will sort out the bathroom issue they were having I like that you are welcome with your well behaved pet at the front of the cafe. Not many places welcome dogs. I'll come here for sure with my well trained dogs. I do wish you all the best success for all future :)

Not worth it. I ordered an Americano with a side of steam milk. I was charged R22 (5 euros). Way too expensive for an average quality coffee - nothing special about the coffee. And I was interpreted to pay while drinking my coffee - not the best experience treating customers like potential thieves.

Café Cardin is a delightful spot that beckons visitors for breakfast on its charming balcony, where the aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingles with the sounds of lively conversation. Located in both Copacabana and Leblon, it offers an array of enticing salads like the fresh salad featuring prosciutto, brie cheese, mango, and more. The café also serves up delicious brunch options such as waffles topped with pesto and scrambled eggs alongside fresh bread slathered in butter.
Waffles with pesto, scrambled eggs and fresh bread with butter with coffee was our choice for brunch. We loved everything!

The food is good, but the servers all seem like they hate working there, and that takes away from the experience. Also, they don't have any hot sauce whatsoever (tabasco or anything similar). For an international eatery, with an international menu, in an international city, it's incredible that they do not have any hot sauce.

Torta Chocobelga Tropical is excellent. Espresso is decent, not great. Didn't feel much of a caffeine kick from it. Ham and cheese omelet decent; eggs taste a bit off. Tastes a little burnt with chemical flavor. Food was served VERY quickly despite being busy. One of the few places I encountered in Brazil that does not take Amex. Floors were dirty and chairs/tables felt low-quality.

This is a bit of an institution in Ipanema and you can get an okay breakfast here. The problem in our most recent visit was that the baked goods just weren't very good. The pastry on their pies and tarts was stodgy and unpleasant. The cakes were clearly kept in the window for several days as they all clearly displayed arrival and departure dates.

Teva Deli, located in Copacabana, is a unique establishment led by chef Daniel Biron. It stands out for its entirely plant-based menu, catering to both vegans and non-vegans. The deli offers a variety of surprising and flavorful items, with an emphasis on organic and freshly made products. Visitors praise the impeccable quality of the food and friendly service.
The cheese bread was yummy. So great to have a whole vegan place! Everything tastes great but the dishes that we took didn’t feel that healthy- they probably have less processed stuff too.

A cozy restaurant for vegetarian meals in Copacabana. I visited for breakfast, and it was a good experience. I tried the croissant with tofu, which was just okay for me, although it was larger than the usual size. The latte, however, was worth trying. My friend ordered the omelette, and it tasted better than the croissant. Overall, it was a nice experience in the vegetarian scene in Rio.
Luiz M — Google review
What can we say about this place other than it is the best vegan place we have been to ever! A huge selection of baked goods, breakfast, lunch and dinner options which tasted amazing. The ginger ale was amazing and great coffee! We came a number of times trying their vegan meatballs, vegan burger and vegan pastries and vegan desserts . The vegan cheesy seitan steak a big highlight! We wish there are more of these in the future, especially in the UK! Hats off to the chefs and staff for the top quality food and service.

Teva is hands down one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Rio de Janeiro! 🌿 It’s 100% vegan, all organic, and completely preservative free. Everything on the menu is made with care and packed with flavor. Whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, or just someone looking to eat healthy, Teva has something for you. Their menu is impressively extensive, with options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Everything is delicious, creative, and beautifully presented. This time I tried their vegan churrasco, and it was amazing. The textures and flavors were so well done that you don’t miss the traditional version at all. I visited the Teva Copacabana location, which also has a bakery section where you can buy their incredible products to take home. The atmosphere is cozy and modern, with a warm and welcoming vibe that matches the restaurant’s healthy philosophy. Parking is easy with two garages nearby and some street spots, although I would recommend going by Uber for convenience. No reservations were needed; I just walked in and got a table right away. If you’re looking for a healthy, flavorful, and 100% vegan experience, Teva is the place. I fully recommend it. A true gem in Rio! 🌱

I was tipped off by my friend Renata to try the plant-based menu at Teva Deli in Rio, and thank goodness I did. Sophisticated but unpretentious. The vegan cannoli alone was so yummy. Our table shared the portobello cardoppia and caju cheese, both rich, earthy, and luxuriously satisfying. Creamy, filling, delicious, proof that vegan food can flirt with decadence. There are so many more dishes I’m coming back for!

The worst service I think we’ve ever come across. We don’t speak fluent Spanish, but we get by. We asked for our entire order in reasonable, comprehensible Spanish. The waitress seemed to either be completely illiterate or downright rude. The food and beverages were average and overpriced. Would not recommend and I don’t know why this place is rated so highly 🤔

Ordered 2 salads for lunch, and we where served to bowls of leaves. The Italian salad literally had 2 baby tomatoes, a few pieces of cheese and just leaves. No dressing, very disappointing as it was one of the more pricey things on their menu.we also waited over an hour for food. Over priced and disappointing.

Bad bad service. After lunch, Ordered coffee, did not receive it. After 15 mins where the cafe seems to be empty and the workers idle, found the same waiter. Reminded him about the coffee. I really liked this restaurant, It's very aesthetically pleasing, the exposed brick, the wood elements and furniture paired with the plants all blend together to create a nice space to be in. The service and owner are fantastic. I actually came here to eat three days in a row for breakfast. The food was amazing, all hits and no misses. Everything I had was fresh and well put together. A cozy, little hidden gem for breakfast/brunch. We had the "degustação", with a little bit of everything, which was fun for a group of 3 friends. Also had the iced caramel macchiato (recommend) and coffee tonic (interesting). The menu offers a variety of toasts, bread, and other snacks. The pão-de-queijo is exceptionally creamy, worth a try. Only took a star from atmosphere because we sat in a precious little corner that was spoiled by the smell of sewage from the restroom. Apart from that, everything was excellent.

We ate here at least 4 times as it was close to where we were staying and it had a good ambience and varied menu. Staff were lovely and attentive. We tried the ricotta toast, shakshuka, ovos rancheiros and chia seed pudding. Ricotta toast was nice but not amazing. Shakshuka was nice but there could be more tomato sauce. The ovos ranchieros was really good. The chia seed pudding was 10/10. Creamy with delicious jam and fresh strawberries. Good portion too. The hot coffees are really good quality and taste great however DO NOT try the iced coffee ipanema. The menu said it had lemon and honey in it so I was expecting it to be a nice coffee with some sweetness. It was horrible - just a strong bitter lemon taste - I couldn’t taste coffee or honey. I rarely complain when I don’t like something but I couldn’t drink this so I told the waitress and asked for a cappuccino instead. This would have been fine but they charged us for both drinks which I think was unfair to do. After this, we didn’t return.

(Translated by Google) A French café located in the heart of Leblon. The menu is extensive and has several sweets on display. This time we ordered a croque monsier, which was very good, and an iced frappe, which was good, but we thought the drink was too small in the cup, since half of it was whipped cream (pictured), about 4 or so of whipped cream. Usually the drink comes all the way to the top of the cup and the whipped cream is on top, like in the cafés I've been to here in RJ, it's bad because we paid for the drink and wanted it to be full. The menu doesn't say how many ml it is, but before ordering we asked the waiter, he said more than 300 ml, but unfortunately it didn't say it was more than 200 ml at most. The strawberry croissant with cream was simply wonderful, very light and refreshing. We would go back just to eat it. The place is small, but very cute, worth the trip. (Original) Uma cafeteria francesa localizada no coração do Leblon.

$$$$very expensive
Bistro
Escola do Pão is a charming and sophisticated restaurant that offers an elegant breakfast and contemporary dishes with elaborate presentations.
(Translated by Google) It was a pleasure and a wonderful experience to get to know the bread workshop and the lady who served us. Tudor that was served is very fresh and of great quality, it reminded me of my grandparents' influence. I hope to meet you more often and more success for the bread workshop. Bjs

Overated super expensive brunch. If you love bread and want to over pay for it. Then this is the place for you and your familia R$80 per person. Dont forget that gratuity is included on top. Your bill per person will be R$101 per person. No one speaks english or spanish in this place, you will be on your own.

(Translated by Google) We went after a super recommendation to have the famous breakfast on Sunday. But we think it didn't meet expectations. The service was poor, we found little variety, and the quality was also not as excellent as advertised. We obviously ate a lot, but we felt it wasn't worth it. Maybe our expectations were too high.

(Translated by Google) The service is really very good. Now I found the palate a little coarse, too sweet, too strong, too much cheese, everything heavy. The yogurt and curau served at the beginning are absurdly sweet. Nothing is delicious, it's at best delicious. And I left feeling like I had eaten a heavy feijoada, without having really nourished myself with anything healthy. (Original) O atendimento é realmente muito bom. Agora achei o paladar um pouco grosseiro, muito doce, muito forte, muito queijo, tudo pesado. O iogurte e o curau servidos no início são absurdamente doces. Nada é delicioso, é no máximo gostoso. E saí com a sensação de ter comido uma feijoada, pesada, sem ter me nutrido de verdade com algo saudável.

(Translated by Google) It is a well decorated environment with air conditioning, but still full of mosquitoes that put an end to any good mood. In reality, the location of the restaurant is in front of an open canal with stagnant water. The client does not know whether to eat or scratch. We were 5 people, all of them were stung. If you want to try, wear long sleeves, pants and socks. The place is expensive and in my opinion it's not worth it. O lugar é caro e a meu ver não vale a pena.

(Translated by Google) Good for families. The breads are delicious, the sandwiches are hot and the scrambled eggs are too. The attentive service. But the sweets are very weak and there is a lack of variety of juices, fruits and cold cuts (there are none). I think the price charged is too high for what it offers.

(Translated by Google) It no longer exists! Closed the doors. It was much better, back when they brought warm bread to the table. Now there is no such care. It was expensive depending on what was served and how the food was presented. The service is attentive, but there is no difference in quality in the products. The waffles were dry, the cake was bland. (Original) Não existe mais! Fechou as portas.

Restaurant
Café Maison, nestled on the terrace of the Maison de France, is a delightful spot that offers a charming atmosphere perfect for enjoying good food and engaging conversations. Recently, it hosted an intriguing croissant tasting event where all pastries were freshly sourced just hours before the test. This ensured that each bite was as fresh as possible while maintaining an air of mystery for the judges involved. The café also serves daily dishes at reasonable prices, making it an excellent choice for lunch or a casual meet-up with friends.

(Translated by Google) Because of the partnership with the company, I have to have lunch there every day. They could vary the menu so I don't have to eat chicken every day. It seems like they lack a bit of creativity. Chicken, chicken, chicken, every day gets boring... If I'm going to eat by the kilo, I think it's expensive for the options and the facilities. (Original) Por causa da parceria com a empresa tenho de almoçar todos os dias lá, podiam variar o cardápio para não ter de comer frango todo dia, parece que falta um pouco de criatividade, frango, frango frango, todo dia enjoa....
