Japanese restaurant
Haru Sushi Bar is a cozy Japanese restaurant located in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. It offers a contemporary menu and features an innovative sushi chef. The restaurant is known for its excellent delivery service with great value for money. In addition to its sushi bar, Haru Sushi Bar also serves two varieties of lamen, featuring thin Japanese noodles with pork belly, fish paste, scallions, seaweed, and egg in either shoyu or miso broth.
This Japanese restaurant is fantastic — we were absolutely impressed! We ordered the shrimp spring rolls, tuna rolls, noodles, and soup — everything was incredibly fresh and delicious. The cocktails were also amazing — perfectly balanced, flavorful, and creative. We highly recommend booking a table in advance, as the restaurant is in high demand — and for good reason. It’s a great spot for dinner with friends or a cozy evening for two. Highly recommended!

Amazing staff, atmosphere, and food! 10/10 experience. I 100% recommend this restaurant. My friend and I came here three times during our vacation before having to travel back to our country; otherwise, I have no doubt we'd eat here at least once a week for the rest of our lives! Lol! We also sat in the bar area, where we were able to socialize with the chefs and bartenders and see them in their element. I suggest making a reservation to avoid waiting. Can't wait to go back one day. WE LOVE YOU, HARU!
Karla — Google review
I ordered numerous items for lunch and for two people. I left pleasantly full. I spent a little over 200 USD or R$1,000. I’ve eaten at fine dining sushi restaurants in Japan and this is the closest I’ve come to repeating that experience outside of Japan. Every meal I ate tasted fresh. The waitstaff and bartenders and sushi chefs were professional and kind. The ambience is quite sexy. I loved the entire experience and would return in the future. I recommend you check it out for yourself.

AMAZING!!! Come here!! We had no reservation and were seated right away. Being greeted at the door by Victoria we were SO happy we sat at the counter at the sushi bar. Alison served us. He was friendly, attentive, and good fun. Watching the chefs be so creative and artistic, it was a pleasure to watch. Me and my husband Joe enjoyed the whole experience. The staff were so friendly, dressed so well. I loved how everyone’s uniforms complimented one another, looked relaxed but professional. The ambience was chill but cosy. One of the best dining experiences of our lives together. We are so happy we came here for dinner. Thank you Alison for giving us an evening to remember. A MUST if you come to Rio. But sit at the counter you won’t regret it. - Also best Moscow mule I’ve ever had. Cocktails and wine were to just 🤌🏼

Booked this place with my son after a recent trip to Rio. We had a small selection of Sushi and a bottle of Sake to wash it down. Service was great, though our waiter had very little English, food though was amazing. Probably one of the best meals we had in Rio in our week long visit.
G B — Google review
After 7pm I believe they don’t take reservations, so I went early to make sure I was able to get in. I waited 20min,and they treated me very respectfully. I got a place on the bar and it was amazing ! The Otoro tuna sushi was out of this planet and the salmon sashimi also was incredible. I must say that during peak hours one needs to be patient, my first order was in 5min but my second took like 20min, but overall amazing experience
Tomas P — Google review
Amazingly fresh. We had the oysters, and about to other appetizers and the chefs choose combo and it was a bit on the pricy side, but totally worth it. We end with a chocolaty dessert. You can’t beat this place, very fresh, very good, service is excellent! Highly recommend.
Leticia S — Google review
Good, not great. I expected more. We were sat at the bar, no tables were available for a while. The sushi and appetizers were good, the yaki soba was average at best (a bit disappointing frankly)

Japanese restaurant
Sushi Leblon is a pioneering Japanese restaurant located in the bustling Dias Ferreira Street in Leblon, Rio de Janeiro. For almost 40 years, it has been blending tradition and innovation in its cuisine. The menu features a variety of creative and contemporary Japanese dishes, with classics like tuna tartare with quail egg and black caviar, as well as sushi duos featuring quail egg with truffle oil and sea salt, and grilled scallop with lychee.
We sat at the bar because we did not make a reservation and there was a 40 minute + wait for a table of 2. We went on a Saturday night and decided to just wing it so this makes sense seeing as though the restaurant is very popular and received a Michelin star last year (2024). We really enjoyed the food, service and ambiance here. I liked being about to watch the sushi chefs preparing everything! They were very talented and incredibly efficient, truly a special experience. We tried an array of different appetizers and rolls, all of which were so good! I even tried the “Canan” shot which is considered a “welcoming” to Brazil that is a combination of 3 different kinds of Cachącas from around Brazil. Would definitely recommend making reservations but also worth waiting for as well! Service was good, too, despite a serious language barrier. (They will provide you with a QR code to access an English menu)
Meg G — Google review
The initial product was good quality and fresh but the execution of sushi and rolls was not good! It wasn’t tasty at all. Very disappointed with this place because it was recommended everywhere but it didn’t live up to expectations unfortunately.
Ksenia B — Google review
If you're looking for an unforgettable Japanese dining experience in Rio de Janeiro, this restaurant in Leblon is the place to be! From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with impeccable customer service—attentive, friendly, and always ready to make great recommendations. The menu offers an incredible variety of dishes, each prepared with the freshest ingredients and an artistic touch. Whether you’re a fan of sashimi, sushi, or creative fusion dishes, there’s something to surprise and delight every palate. But the absolute standout is Atum Fresco, Ovas Negras e Gema de Ovo Caipira—a masterpiece! The combination of the rich, buttery fresh tuna with the luxurious black roe and creamy farm egg yolk creates a perfect harmony of flavors. It’s a must-try that will leave you craving more. Every visit is a top-tier gastronomic experience, making this spot my go-to for Japanese cuisine in Rio. Highly recommend!
Patrick J — Google review
Amazing sushi place! Love the variety of fish and surprising, delicious sushi combinations. Cool ambiance and great service. Thought the price was very fair too for good quality.
Marina V — Google review
The sushi is amazing, I really recommend. It's pricey but worth it for a night. We got the "basic for 2" and the salmon carpaccio with truffle oil. It was really good and quite big. The service was really average - they were slow to take our order and forgot drinks. The customers around us were leaving dishes half full which made me a bit sad, knowing the quality and the price of this food.
Deka D — Google review
I was really looking forward to the sushi here, but the experience fell a bit short. While the quality and service were decent, they didn’t quite match the price point. Overall, it felt a little overhyped for what it was.”

Azumi is a top-notch Japanese restaurant located in a quiet street in Copacabana. The restaurant offers an authentic and award-winning sushi experience, with a focus on traditional Japanese cuisine. The menu features a variety of sushi and sashimi options, as well as main courses that showcase the diversity of Japanese cooking beyond just raw fish. Diners can enjoy edamame beans, ice-cold sake, and other classic Japanese dishes in a minimalist yet inviting atmosphere.
I had an incredible experience at Azumi. The food was top-notch, with fresh, expertly prepared and a rich, flavorful ramen that stood out as the highlight. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, perfectly complementing the meal. The service was friendly and attentive, making the entire dining experience seamless. Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic Japanese cuisine in Rio de Janeiro!
Diego P — Google review
Beautiful traditional interior, attentive service and worthwhile to read the history of the Azumi restaurant in the menu. We had a great platter of mixed sushi, very good! Would recommend! Please note that some photos that are posted here aren’t of the actual restaurant. The interior is actually really nice.

Popped in for lunch and shared the 35 piece platter between two people. Sashimi was super fresh and great quality!🍣
Annie K — Google review
Avoid at all costs. I wish I had read the reviews before eating here. Like many others, I got severe food poisoning just a few hours after my meal. I hadn’t eaten anything else that day — it was 100% caused by this restaurant. Absolutely unacceptable.
Jon G — Google review
Best ramen I ever had, the broth was mind blowing. Don’t forget to add some of their pimenta powder to give it a spicy kick. I haven’t had their sushi so can’t comment on that, will be back for more ramen though. Prices are at par with US standards.
Amit S — Google review
Absolutely fantastic sushi restaurant, very high quality preparation and ingredients. Delicious flavours and a friendly atmosphere. We’re definitely going again.
Kenneth B — Google review
I have traveled to many countries and try a lot of sushi. This place and a place in Montreal are my favorites. The entire staff is very nice and I can’t wait to go back in Dec when I return to Rio.
JW — Google review
This restaurant has authentic japanese dishes. Rio has other better japanese restaurants, but this one offers good food for the prices they charge. The place is kind of old, but it is clean. I recommend it for a good lunch, but not a place to impress your spouse.

Yusha is a hotel with exceptional interior design and a cozy atmosphere. The stylish and modern decor, chic furniture, and well-curated artwork in the lobby create a welcoming ambiance. The rooms are equally impressive, offering comfort and aesthetics with attention to detail in furnishings, color schemes, and lighting. The culinary experience at Yusha is highlighted by delicious meals showcasing a blend of flavors that leave a lasting impression.
Overall a great experience: the usuzukuri was so fresh with good flavors and seasoning. The green tea cream brûlée was also quite good. Ramen was okay. Servers were all very attentive. Pedro, who speaks fluent English, helped a lot with my orders. Would certainly come back the next time I’m in Rio.
Eugenie C — Google review
We had an amazing dining experience at this mall restaurant, and Pedro truly made it special. His recommendations were spot on—he suggested the truffle shrimp and lobster, both of which were absolutely delicious! I also had the sushi and the blue crab cone, which were both fresh and flavorful. Pedro was incredibly personable and attentive throughout our meal, making sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive. It's rare to find such great service paired with such amazing food. Highly recommend! We'll definitely be back when we visit Rio again!

The best sushi we have ever had, Amazing quality, super tasty. The service was incredible.
Sagi — Google review
A very good seafood restaurant with a fresh fish. The service is outstanding and if they don't have something on the menu you can still request them to make it for you since they partner with neighboring restaurants and can share the menu. The dessert we tried was outstanding!

Amazing food and great staff! The sushi was soo good and the drinks were delicious! Larissa was our waitress and she was very kind and attentive. When back in Brazil, I’ll definitely be returning here!
Njeri A — Google review
A culinary experience at a distinctive Japanese restaurant nestled in a stunning mall. The elegant interior design coupled with a beautifully presented open kitchen bar enhance the ambiance. The try for me was the unconventional sushi rolls, expertly prepared without rice - a delightful twist that proved to be more than just a novelty, but a genuinely tasty alternative.

Very kind and attentive staff. The atmosphere is cozy. The food is amazingly delicious. Very extensive menu, around 18 pages with traditional Asian mainly Japanese dishes. Will come back for sure.

Gurumê is a popular contemporary oriental cuisine chain in Rio de Janeiro, with six locations across different neighborhoods. The restaurant offers a diverse menu prepared by skilled chefs, combining Japanese flavors with sophisticated touches. The Ipanema unit stands out for its spacious lounge and mezzanine, featuring modern decor that complements the innovative dishes on the menu. Some of the highlights include salmon guacamole, raw tuna chunks with burrata cheese, and soft ceviche.
Deserves every single star. My boyfriend and I came here on a whim after seeing it on maps and man are we glad we did. Every single thing we ate was DELICIOUS. So much so that we ordered seconds of the lemon risotto and waygu starter. The atmosphere and appearance of the restaurant is beautiful and very trendy. And every single member of the staff were so kind and accommodating. 100% would recommend and am slightly sad we can’t come back for more meals as we’re visiting the city! Also if you’re from Europe or the US, the value for the quality of food you get is just outstanding.
Lee R — Google review
So so good we visited twice! Booked it the day before via Google - you definitely need a reservation especially for a weekend as ids a popular spot. English menus helped us. Best sushi we have ever had. Couldn’t believe how cheap it was either considering the quality of the food!
Rish S — Google review
In general nice quality fish. When I was there they didn’t had tuna belly unfortunately so I couldn’t try but managed to try Jyo de camarao; for me it was okay but had so many flavors mixed and was bot easy to enjoy them all at the same time, Itamae gurume; basically 5 piece decided by the chef and most likely will be different for all in mine i had salmon belly it was okay but they use a lot of truffle oil and obviously they have a really good one because taste is very dominant but in personally I like my fish more fresh and fish flavor a strong truffle covers it all and it was the case in this piece, there was another piece with vieira super salty ingredient I had to take it out couldn’t manage to eat, another piece was bluefin like it very much and final one was enguia which was very pleasant. Another plate I asked was batera da de salmao; it wss quite fresh with lemon for me very good quality price plate with fresh touch. And finally nigiri’s with vieira again it was with truffle vieira itself was nice and fat but it is a personal preference that I would prefer without truffle. Overall ambient is nice and pieces are relatively big so this order can easily feed 2 people if they are not starving. Finally asked for a matcha sorbet and it was amazing to finish love the visual service and taste of it!! And little addition when I gave feedback on the salty sushi they were very understanding and received the feedback quite positively which was great to see.
Nimay C — Google review
I’m gonna have to go against these reviews and say that the food was really average. It looks way better than it actually tastes. It’s super creative, contemporary, and inviting inside and the dishes are more upscale but the taste just not there. The wagyu tartar was outstanding. Rolls, not so much. Popcorn shrimp really average and predictable.
NK — Google review
Yummy Japanese food right in the heart of Ipanema. The sashimi was super fresh, the nasi goreng was tasty, and the salmon was delicious! Portions were quite filling, and the prices were reasonable too
Debby D — Google review
We had a wonderful dinner at Gurume. Our waitress was incredibly attentive, friendly, and helpful throughout the night. The sushi was fresh and beautifully prepared. Overall, it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Highly recommend!
Alejandra B — Google review
This is, without a doubt, the best Japanese restaurant in Rio! Everything — from the presentation to the flavors — is of the highest quality. The fish is incredibly fresh, the rolls are perfectly balanced, and every ingredient stands out. We especially loved the sashimi, tuna rolls, and spicy salmon — they just melt in your mouth. The atmosphere is stylish and cozy, and the staff is polite and very attentive. The cocktails are a highlight on their own — creative, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. Make sure to book a table in advance — this place is popular, and for good reason. If you love Japanese cuisine, this restaurant is a must-visit in Rio. A true culinary delight!
Nika S — Google review
Tucked away on a quiet street, Shiro Sushi feels cosy the moment you walk in—low lighting, warm wood, and enough space between tables to talk without eavesdroppers. Sushi is fresh and cleanly executed; the daily specials are worth a try. Surprisingly solid wine list (think small Italian and French producers) at fair prices. For what you get, the bill stays friendly. A reliable spot when you want good fish and a bit of privacy.

Naga is a modern sushi bar in Rio de Janeiro, offering a blend of traditional and creative Japanese cuisine. The restaurant boasts a sleek decor and provides a view of the Lagoa da Tijuca. With its roots from the successful Nagayama in Sao Paulo, Naga has become popular for its special sashimi, oysters, and sake.
Excellent place for sushi in the Village Mall, a short drive if you are staying on the beach in Barra! Our servers helped our group select several rounds of different rolls and other favorites - everything was fantastic!
Matt O — Google review
Great sushi restaurant in an upscale shopping mall top floor. The place is very relaxing and well decorated. The good quality is good and good choices of sushi, including toro, unagi and uni, that are not available in sushi restaurants in Brazil.
Henry S — Google review
Food was good and fair Price. But they made me pay 40 Reals for a 5 dl Water. Which to me is in no relation.
Enea G — Google review
Excellent place to have very good sushi and Japanese food in generell. The mall is never packed and easy accessible, the stuff at Naga are very nice and did. I mention the amazing food before?! Def. a very good spot to have lunch and to take a break from shopping
Vinicius G — Google review
The chef is so creative and offer TIER 1 quality Japanese food. I think he is so close to a Michelin star with respect to his foods. I personally like his food a lot. Not hard but not soft sushi rice with the perfect amount of the sushi vinegar, with sometimes his creativity with black truffle or caviar. The only reason I give four stars is because of the service. First, as a high quality restaurant, their waiters/waitresses can’t speak English, only the chef can speak. Second, the service is far away from Michelin star, not only the details but also the friendliness. I hope there will be some changes of the service and the chef will be rated with Michelin stars.

The food is indeed good. However, the experience couldn't have been worse. The food only partially arrive 30min later, with one dish wrong, it was fried instead of raw. After letting them know, I'm still waiting for the original dish 45min later (total of 1h15min waiting time). Horrible experience.

San Leblon is a vibrant and historic neighborhood in Buenos Aires, known for its diverse energy. The area comes alive on weekends with a bustling flea market, while weekdays offer a more relaxed atmosphere perfect for strolling through art galleries and the San Telmo Market. The market exudes an old-world charm and offers a variety of culinary delights such as fluffy empanadas, specialty coffee, and traditional Argentinian steak.

They were done with reservations so we had to walk in and from the time we did the host / manager was so nice . we had such a great experience. the entire staff was very nice and too can tell they work well together but special shout out to our walter Fernando - anytime he said i picked a great dish he was right! very trustworthy! food was fresh and high quality and it came out timely. small quaint place but felt very comfortable and enjoyed every minute of my time there. 10/10 recommend. Our faves were the Jim Bean Mango, Lychee with Basil, the Kobe Tataki, and the Uramaki Ebitem Special - if i’m ever back i would go again and would hope to see Fernando again!

Apparently one of the best sushi places on town but unfortunately I just didn’t understand why. Beautiful place with pleasant staff but the sushi itself was not top notch. Still worth a visit if you feel like sushi but if you’re looking for an authentic japanese meal this is jot the place

San is a beautiful restaurant with excellent quality Japanese food. The service was impeccable - and the manager was incredibly warm and friendly, he went the extra mile to make sure we had the best experience. I’d highly recommend (and if you do go, try the tuna tata).

Pabu Izakaya is a culinary gem located in the heart of Rio, offering a delightful fusion of Japanese flavors and artful craftsmanship. The menu boasts an array of delectable dishes, including the signature Crispy Salmon Skin Tacos that combine perfectly crisped salmon skin with warm tortillas for a delightful texture contrast.
The food was excellent! I especially liked the chef’s combos. We ordered the scallops with foie gras, oysters, uni, chef’s sashimi and some rolls. Everything was great, though I do wish the server had told us what fish were in the sashimi. The ordering app worked well, and would allow someone who doesn’t speak Portuguese to see what they were ordering. Overall, I’d definitely go again.
Rebecca E — Google review
Found it on Eater and it looked cool but the food wasn't particularly good. Sushi was cut poorly as it had stringy parts to contend with and the donburi was over sauced.
Steven S — Google review
I was pretty stoked to try this place as it showed up in a lot of my searches for places to eat in Rio. The service was friendly and great. However the food was not good at all, I am not from Brazil and have not had any other Japanese food here yet , but I Hve been to Japan and many other cities and had a lot of Japanese food all over the world. The fish is my nigiri was very warm, like alarmingly warm, the rice should be warm but the fish being that temperature scares me from a food safety perspective. The buta no kakuni was inedible, the pork was incredibly tough, I'm not used to it being served in such a light broth, however if that's how you want to serve it, it still should have had more flavours of dasbi, soy , mirin and sake. The broth was relatively flavour less. The karage was decent tasting but not a typical karage, the chunks of chicken were quite small and didn't taste like the chicken was marinaded before hand . Gyoza, unfortunately also not good, not a great sear on them , pork filling was lacking flavour, could have used some ginger. The Toro, O Toro seemed like they were cut sloppy. Overall I love the open air street seating and it had great clientele in there but the food was unfortunately a waste of a meal in my limited time in Rio.

Authentic Japanese sushi in a izikaya vibe. Excellent tamago+unagi sushi. If you are looking for true Japanese sushi and not fusion rubbish then this is your place. open late and chilled vibe and outdoor and indoor seating it’s proper.
David A — Google review
Pabu is a great izakaya experience, especially for anyone not having experienced one. The inside is intimate with a long central bar and a few side tables. Don't expect to be seated quickly with a group over four people, but there are patio seats. The service can be slow. Even sitting at the bar in front of staff it takes time to get someones attention if you need something. They're always busy. Be very clear when ordering. I asked for tonkatsu (a ramen bowl) but received katsu (a fried chicken plate). But you know what? It was absolutely delicious. Everything here is delicious. The katsu was perfectly fried and juicy inside. The karrage was the same. Even the veggie gyoza were an order I'd have again. The flavors of every sauce burst out when tasted. I'd happily return any time. Once they fix their service issues it's an easy five star.

This place is great, I went alone to have dinner they offered a good sake for my dinner. The place is small so there’s not many tables! But is really nice and the most important the service is great, the food is nice, just probably as a recommendation we should get a menu in English or Spanish for international.

Really great sushi and fish quality. Presentation and decor upgraded. Chicken kagage and fermented cucumbers outstanding. Good selection of Japanese beer sake and whisky and also non Japanese as well. Met with one of the owners who is also a chef and he was lovely. The staff are ok. I want to buy one of their t shirts. Great design.

Hatch is a top-notch Japanese restaurant in Rio that comes highly recommended. A visit to this establishment is not just an option, it's a necessity! The service is courteous and attentive, the prices are fair, and the food is absolutely superb. On top of all that, you'll get to enjoy a wonderful view of the iconic Sugar Loaf and Botafogo inlet while dining. Be sure to try their signature dish, the Hatch Rock Roll – it's a must-try!
À true 5star experience with the best view in Rio high class food and service at its best. No brainer when choosing a Japanese restaurant in town. All you can eat for 134 reais (20 USD) Then, don't go without visiting the bathroom.. (check picture) 😂

Very good food, good presentation, and it came quick. Service was very bad; from the hostess not wanting to get us a table because restaurant was full even if we could see a couple of tables available to the mess with food delivery. We understand that those free tables could maybe be reserved, so we asked to be seated at any of the 2 bars, but we were told these could not be used to eat, just to have drinks. When asked for an estimated wait time, the answer was "indefinite". Finally got a table, drinks were being forgotten, food was being brought randomly (mains before appetizers), or even wrong one was being sent from a tasting menu. And of course, then saw a family eating seated at the bar - which was supposedly not possible. The good work of the chefs and kitchen staff is being overshadowed by floor staff.

One of the best Japanese restaurants in Rio! Highly recommended...visiting again is not a possibility, it is a must! Courteous and very attentive service, fair priced, the food is superb...all this coupled with a wonderful view towards the iconic Sugar Loaf and Botafogo inlet.

So the place itself is very nice visually. Also great service. However the food was meh. I ordered the vegetable yakisoba and the sauce and vegetables were delicious, savoury and crunchy. But the noodles themselves were either over stir-fried or undercooked because they were stale and kind of crunchy. The caprinha I ordered was good, but if they just made sure to always serve fresh. Well cooked food it would be a higher rating.
Leonard — Google review
The only good part about this is the view. But at night time for dinner you can’t see much. Very expensive and the sushi is small, not very well made. Simple for the price. Restaurant is not Kids Friendly as well, I requested a booster or a High chair for my daughter and surprisedly they said we don't have it They send us the combination and the rolls without Wasabi and ginger, after they deliver the food at the table you have to ask for the waiter for the Wasabi and ginger. The soy sauce comes in a very small container that I had to ask three times to refill. Not very good experience, sushi is not tasteful as many other sushi places in Brazil. For the e price is not worth it. Plus they add 12% service when the standard service is 10%. Sorry but I can’t recommend this Sushi in Rio. They will probably go out of business soon. Only good part was the View. My waiter look like he was tired or something. Really bad experience. Unfortunately I won’t be back or recommend this place to anyone.

The only helpful employee was the bartender. The rest of the crew seemed to be delighted in offering one of the worst Rodizio Service in Brazil by far. The way they served tourists was well below the service local people were receiving. If you don’t speak Portuguese, I would suggest you go somewhere else.

Located within the urban resort of Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro, Shiso stands out for its use of fresh ingredients sourced from local fishermen. Headed by chef Guilherme Campos, the restaurant offers an a la carte menu featuring a selection of traditional Japanese appetizers and main dishes, with a focus on a wide variety of sushi and sashimi. Additionally, guests can opt for the omakase experience, a six-course tasting menu that varies based on the day's freshest offerings.
One of the best sushi experiences I’ve had globally! The team is super meticulous in everything they do. The head chef is proud of his work and seems to be a servant leader to his crew. Amazing time here and I wish I was hungrier so I could keep eating. Even though we stayed at the hotel, it’s a good idea to get a reservation because these guys are in high demand!
Mary F — Google review
Sitting at the sushi bar was a great experience watching them make sushi. The service was impeccable! I plan to visit again before I return to my home country.
Kimberly S — Google review
The restaurant is beautifully designed to match with the modern cuisine it serves. The open-square wooden island in the middle is the place to sit if you want to catch all the action behind the scenes. For larger groups, nearby tables provide ample exposition to the open concept kitchen where we can see chef and his team in the heat of the action. The restaurant offers an extensive à la carte menu, but I recommend opting for the “Omakase” 6-course menu. This modern japanese gastronomic experience can be complemented with a wine or sake pairing. I went for the sake pairing, which was a great complement to the food. For those who are less acquainted with the taste of sake, the wine pairing will certainly accompany the menu appropriately. With your food prepared right before your eyes, it truly feels like you have a personal chef taking care of you! The quality of the courses does not disappoint. With locally-sourced ingredients, the cuisine is tasteful and simple. I definitely consider this one of the best japanese culinary experience I have had, especially when considering the local Brazilian twist! Thank you to the team for making this an evening to remember; I look forward to being back.

Amazing gastronomic experience! We did not do the omakase experience but went with the chef’s recommendations and they were just wonderful. Besides the food, the decor, the attentive staff were an experience to remember!

As I stayed at the Grand Hyatt hotel for a few days, I decided to eat in the japanese Shiso restaurant, which is located in the hotel. I read about it in the Guide Michelin. And I was not disappointed, although they didn’t have too many choices for vegetarians. Nevertheless, in my opinion the food I ordered was nicely presented, freshly prepared and great in taste! The restaurant staff seemed to be well trained and was very friendly and professional to me as a guest. I would return to this restaurant!
Thomas D — Google review
They market themselves as authentic traditional Japanese but they are not. Maybe in comparison to the Brazilian Japanese restaurants in Brazil as Japanese is the third largest ethnic group in Brazil and their food has no doubt been Brazilianised to suit the local taste. But it is not traditional nor authentic at all. They use too much sauce which is overpowering and the sashimi is really average. Service is good but a bit over the top and intrusive at times. It is disappointing. Food 6/10, service 8/10, ambience 7/10, value for money 6/10. Not a place I would return.

Typically I'm not the kind of guy who stays at the hotel for dinner... yes this was a good reason for doing an exception!! Located in Botafogo, South Ferro has undergone a transformation with New Yorker Sei Shiroma at the helm, infusing the menu with an authentic Asian concept. The restaurant's focus on oriental cuisine is evident in its classic ramen offerings, including kimchi ramen, vegetarian miso ramen, and shoyu ramen. Despite its unassuming appearance and small size, this eatery offers a genuine Asian dining experience.
Delicious, cozy, affordable, and welcoming! South Ferro offers great food - from pizza to entrees and sweets - at a reasonable price and embraces you with its street-like New York ambiance and friendly service :)

The chef here is a rooted in Asia and the food is very authentic, which means no fancy place, no fancy decoration, no fancy at all. The restaurant is so small that you can walk by without noticing it. But don’t do that. Go there for a quick bite to have a good Asian food experience in Rio. Oh, almost forgot: The cocktails are great as well!

Super good pizza and drinks, but not a cheap place. There are not common options at the menu, such as pumpkin pure tempura and vegetable dumplings. One of the best pizzas i have ever had. Some items of the menu changes every 2 weeks.
Camila R — Google review
Had a 3 course meal. The dumplings to start were phenomenal. The steak for main was overcooked and not the best quality of steak to begin with, but the sides were great. The mousse for dessert was just ok. I asked which beers they had and was told they only had Boutique beers, and the waiter bright me the 4 options to look at. I ordered an IPA and it was great. But I was disappointed in the service when the table next to me were served Heineken, meaning the server had not given all the beer options just to try and make more money - poor form! I'd have ordered the IPA anyway, but I wouldn't have felt lied to!

I loved the aesthetic and vibe of this place, and the fact that it had very powerful air conditioning. But our group was all vegetarians and the vegan ramen was preeeetty flavorless. If it weren’t for the price — R$40 — I’d have been less disappointed, but that’s a lot to pay for salty water.

Being expensive is common for high quality japanese cuisine. However, everything from the food, the service to the ambient of the restaurant made me feel being overcharged. The only thing that matches the price tag is the rice. It was good quality which is rare in Rio de Janeiro.

Recently my partner told me about this little known piece of paradise hidden in the neighborhood called Recreio. She went into an extensive detail how this quaint restaurant was a true diamond in the rough. A few weeks back we made our trek there. The dinning area is outdoors and all it's tables were full but the waiter called "John" informed us we could sit at the sushi bar. At the sushi bar we were greeted by the well mannered sushiman called "Matheus", he provided us both with indepth suggestions of what to eat. He mentioned that the fish were locally sourced, Niterói i think. My partner is currently pregnant so she could only eat the cooked side of things. She had vegetable gyoza as a starter and had tonkatsu kare, she mentioned it reminded of her trip to Osaka some years back. I had some eel and some uni, both were super fresh. We finished off with a slice of heaven that is their matcha cheesecake. If you are in the region please give this spot a go.

Insane food, great atmosphere & cocktails! Teresa was an awesome host & Bruno was a great server. Pro tip: make sure to get a bottle of the brazilian sake - Azuma!

Don’t expect real Japanese food - food was very salty (especially the yaki soba), the sushi was mediocre at best - the seared salmon didn’t even taste seared. Service is slow and seem to have a slight attitude. At a trendy part of the Leblon and nice atmosphere, but honestly, I don’t understand the raving reviews. 4.0 stars at most

The worst ramen I’ve ever eaten. Everything else is ok not special but not bad. But again their ramen is atrocious.
Patricio R — Google review
This was without a doubt the most disappointing sushi experience I’ve ever had. The sushi was dry and completely tasteless, as if no effort was made to make it even remotely fresh or appetizing. The "king crab sushi" was nothing more than cheap surimi salad wrapped in rice – a complete insult to the name. The shrimp gyozas were burnt on the bottom, leaving nothing but the taste of charred crust. The rest was so unappealing that I didn’t even bother to try it. In the end, I had to rinse my mouth with Coca Cola to get rid of the awful taste. An absolute nightmare of a meal. Here’s a recommendation from me: walk five more minutes and dine at San for a truly analog taste sensation.
Khalid B — Google review
Chef this is directed to you. Do you know how strong tasting chives are? When you add a lot into the California king roll, guess what is the only thing you can taste: that’s right.. Chives. You don’t taste anything else in the roll. I’m from California and that’s not even close to a proper California roll. Get rid of the chives completely from it so people can actually taste the yummy ingredients. The same goes for the wanton. How many chives did you cut down to put in the small bowl of wontons?? Seriously what’s your fetish with chives? The sashimi was absolutely outstanding. Simple & delicious. I ordered a second plate of the sashimi plate because it was that good. The mamba roll was really good as well. I also enjoyed the melon soda. Conclusion: stop using so many chives in your dishes. A little bit goes a long way.

Tasty sushi. Sashimi was excellent, the fish tasted very fresh! Very friendly and attentive staff. They've done a good job of 'hiding' the fact that you're sitting in a mall. It is a pricey restaurant, certainly for Rio's standards, but the freshness of the ingredients seems worth it to me.

Peixoto Sushi, located in the Peixoto neighborhood, has a strong reputation for offering excellent fresh fish and seafood. It all started when the couple Beni and Viviane Schvartz served their first sushis and sashimis here, which were so well-received that it led to the opening of a restaurant.
Don't know why it's not more crowded than it is. Had the chef's choice and they were all pretty good - comparable to what you'd get at a mid tier restaurant in Japan. The fish was also very fresh. They do go a little heavy on the truffle oil though, so you may want to ask them to reduce it.

Peixoto certainly brings nice looking fish to the table. Colourful, bright and brilliant looking dishes that unfortunately were covered with truffle oil. I prefer to let the fish speak for itself. I had an amazing dining experience at Mee! The food was a fascinating fusion of Japanese culture, with flavors and quality that instantly transported me back to Japan. The attention to detail in every dish was impressive, and the drinks were just as exceptional. A truly memorable night!

we had an outstanding experience... one in a million. we visited on Sunday, May 4th (Gagacabana weekend) and thought it'd be full, but be managed to squeeze us in. the food, the presentation, the taste... everything was GNARLY. we loved how they treated us. 10/10 would recommend!

With high expectations and positive anticipation we entered the beautiful one star Michelin restaurant. First we had one drink each in the bar, made by a pleasant and professional bartender. The drinks where expensive but high quality and very good. The seating premise is nice and most materials are high end. Moving on to the food. We had the tasting menu which included around 7 dishes. I want to be clear, i have been privileged enough to have dined at multiple guide michelin restaurants around the world, ranging from 1 star up to 3 stars. It really saddens me to say, that this was by far the most underwhelming food experience. However, the staff where accommodating and kind but it did unfortunately not make up for the low level in the kitchen. On to some constructive criticism. The first dish was one of the best. The muscle was a bit to cold in the middle and the foam was tasteless. Although the star of the dish lacked a bit the rest was nice. The second dish was a joke, get rid of the salad and 4 tomatoes? Insane ratio. The sushi was OK, the tuna was very nice. The wagyu was to salty. The tartar was the best dish of the night, but! Its the safest dish. Nothing difficult about it, the product is high quality. But the chef risks nothing. Disappointed. The wine was very fine and the service on refilling was quick and elegant. The soup. Just no. So simple and it blows my mind how you thought this was a good idea. The pasta was so weird. It almost felt like we were used as someone to test strange ideas on. Its a good thing to try new things, it adds to the Guinea pigs sensation but in this case it lacked any positive lining. The mochi was sloppy. The final dessert was clean, easy and fresh. Skip the thick jelly. Try something more exotic and sensual.

On June 6, my husband and I ate at Mee the first night we stayed at the Belmond Copacabana. We ordered their Tasting Menu and were disappointed at the service and the quality of the food. The first dish was scallop, nicely presented, but not very fresh, had a fishy taste. The shiromi was the worst – I ate two pieces and left the third untouched. The third dish (zushi) was a ball of white rice wrapped in beef, tuna tartare, and eel; could have been better if the rice was soft, sticky, and seasoned like how sushi rice is supposed to be. The rice was dry and had no flavor which is shocking for a Japanese restaurant, not to mention one with a 1 Michelin star. The Trio Snack was the best among the nine dishes. The grilled wagyu beef in a skewer was flavorful, the tuna tartare was fresh, and the chicken panko was crispy and tasty. Of the last three dishes (shrimp, noodles with pork belly, and Korean bibimbap), the bibimbap was the most disappointing in taste. It was nicely presented but lacked in flavor. Of the two desserts, the mochi was OK, but the strawberry mousse was pretty good! With water and three small bottles of Sapporo, the total came to R$2.026,20 (roughly USD$363) – totally not worth it. As for service, it was quick and smooth the first half because there were only three tables with customers. As the restaurant started to fill with more people, service lagged, and there were gaps of 15 – 20 minutes between the last couple of main dishes. We had to ask the server to check on our dishes more than a couple of times. We enjoy dining at Michelin star restaurants, and unfortunately, Mee has been our worst experience. It’s hard to imagine how Mee got their one star. Perhaps their past dishes were delectable, but the Tasting Menu we tried in June was not to the standard and quality of a Michelin star restaurant.

I loved the diversity of the menu. Every dish I had was spectacular and included the Wagyu carpaccio, Wagyu dim sum, several Nigiri dishes, and the crispy duck. Best duck I've had since eating at the original roast duck restaurant in Beijing. Ambience was good and the staff was extremely friendly.
Mark H — Google review
A chic interior, with two beautiful paintings on the wall like Asian murals, slightly dimmed light which is always nice for dinner, a nice bar with beautifully designed lights hanging over it. I ordered the Mee mule, a nonalcoholic drink which was great. We had the 7 course tasting meny of the chef. The kyozas and the shrimp tempura were very tasty, the sea bass sashimi was flat in the taste. The wangu dish with udon noodles was performed on the table and was also very tasty. The desert with mango, coconut, nuts , passion fruit and a great crispy biscuit was fantastic. The service was very good and the price reasonable for a one star Michelin restaurant located in the Copacabana Palace. The 1 star from ne they lost it for the soup which was nothing special and the sea bass sashimi.

Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Copacabana, this Rio restaurant delivers an unforgettable culinary experience, blending modern elegance with the warmth of attentive, impeccable service. Each dish, from perfectly seared dumplings to tender, thinly sliced beef topped with a rich egg yolk, showcases a masterful harmony of flavors and presentation. The cocktails captivate with their vibrant colors and expertly balanced flavors, while the umami-rich hand roll with caramelized fish and crisp seaweed leaves a lasting impression. With its exquisite cuisine and dedicated staff, this Copacabana restaurant is impressive beyond words. Truly a must!

We loved the food, the service was exceptional, we were there with three kids and they loved the food and felt very welcomed. We only wished we had the option of being seated in the traditional Japanese dining room. But we're sure that's for special occasions.

Eu quero escrever meu comentário em português mas, muitos pessoas que leem meus comentários vai não entendi. 😁🫶🏽 First impressions, I love the interior and the use of space. It reminds me izakayas in Japan, even with the kitschy decor. Service was good, the staff was attentive until it got busy so, make sure to get all your orders in before the crowds. The food is a hit and miss. The meat yakitori is a hit, the veggie yakitori doesn't have to be too salty for flavor. Which brings me to the rest of the food. The small dishes of pickled veggies are good, the agedashi exactly how I remember it. I ordered yakisoba, which I do not expect to be Japanese as most restaurants in Rio do a Brasileiro style however, it doesn't have to be too salty. Out of 10, mine was at 15, dialing the salt down to a 7 would be fine. Would I go back? Yes. I would order different items though just to explore the menu.

One of my favorite spots in Rio. The food is very good, a little on the pricier side, but the portions are also large. The waitresses have always been kind and welcoming. The “japan fest” menu is pretty cool, you’re able to try a bit of everything. Would really like to try the Ramen one day, it looks good.

A traditional Japanese restaurant! There is a lot of space, the staff is super friendly and efficient, the food is amazing! I love their sashimis, the miso soup, the veggie bifun and the philadelphia rol. For dessert, I highly recommend the açaí and the tapioca ice cream flavours - to die for!

Mitsubá is a cozy Japanese restaurant in Rio de Janeiro that offers a variety of sushi, yakisoba, and teppanyaki dishes. The restaurant is known for its fresh and diverse fish selection, with the option to try the chef's menu for a unique culinary experience. The well-trained staff are knowledgeable about the different types of fish and provide guidance on enjoying the sushi. While it may be slightly pricey, Mitsubá offers excellent service and a quiet dining atmosphere.
Very authentic Japanese sushi, fresh and hygienic! After travel so many days out of asia, I'm glad I visited this place! The location of this restaurant is at basement level of Rio Design Shopping Mall.

SOOOOOO impressed with this place. Having eaten at a lot of sushi restaurants in Sao Paulo and Rio over the years, I've usually been pretty disappointed in the choice of fish and overall quality.. but Mitsuba is STELLAR. With a selection of fish that rivals most omakase restaurants, and wonderful preparation of each. I'd highly recommend getting one of the chef special sushi selections if you want to try a lot of unique fish you won't find most places. Highly recommend, and a wonderful, knowledgeable staff as well. This is the best sushi I've ever had in Brazil.

Sushi in Rio?!? Yes, please! We ordered several dishes to share and were not disappointed. The yakisoba was flavorful and delicious. The sashimi was cut nicely and definitely did not disappoint! The salmon belly was amazing!!! Yuzu martini was yummy and refreshing. Not what we were expecting from this unassuming little restaurant in the mall lol

Last time I was in Brazil, I had some of the best sushi in my life - so this trip I had to try more spots. Mitsuba is now on the list of some of the best sushi I’ve had in my life. Super local, super interesting selection of fish, and lots of creativity - I ordered the 20 piece omakase and it was out of this world - and only cost $40 (usd). This might be my go to spot when I’m in Rio.

Food was very nice, unfortunately experience is ruined by the poor, unbothered service. Waited 45 mins for two dishes and still left hungry as servers failed to tell us that the kitchen was closing - even though when we ordered we said we will start with this. Had to ask for a CAN of water multiple times which never arrived, when I would ask the waiter for it again he would nod dismissively as if he was annoyed to be reminded but still never bought it over. Also waited 15 minutes + waiting for the bill.

I’m sitting here as I write this: the sushi here is exceptional. I was a little weary since there were literally zero people here at 8:00pm on a Saturday night (maybe it’s a Brazil thing?). But literally every piece I ate was somehow better than the piece before it. Bonus: they didn’t have any drinks I liked so they let me bring in my own (not a thing in the US, generally speaking). The waitress was very sweet as I tried to communicate with my extremely broken Spanish and zero Portuguese (and her broken English in response). The couple next to me had a dog sitting with them outside which only added to the atmosphere. Prices seemed reasonable to me once I did the conversion, and the location was terrific. I was wandering aimlessly through Rio by myself, I’m so glad I randomly stopped in here. I can’t wait until the next dish comes…☺️

Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Copacabana, Lamen Hood is a charming little ramen shop led by the talented Renata Monteiro. This cozy eatery offers an impressive selection of 20 different ramen variations, all crafted with artisanal noodles and rich broths. Among the standout dishes is the beloved pork belly ramen, which features toasted onions, bean sprouts, Swiss chard, and a perfectly cooked egg.
Delicious ramen and vegan options. I was so happy to find a ramen spot with some vegan options. We had dumplings filled with vegetables, they were perfectly sautéed and crispy on the outside. The vegan ramen has with rice noodles, mushrooms and tofu. Service was good and fast, we didn’t wait too long. For drinks we recommend the hibiscus tea.
Lola N — Google review
Absolute worse food I’ve ever had in Rio and everything but ramen. The broth tasted like something cheap mixed with soy sauce, barely anything else besides the meat, sad sticky ramen noodles and two over cooked eggs. The dish arrived almost dry with very little broth. Waste of money.
Niousha R — Google review
Vegan gyoza ramen was sooooo good we came back even though we were only in Rio for 4 nights! Tasty and filling. We had it with the miso broth which was so yum. The vegetable vegan ramen was also delicious.

Omg . This Horrible . We waited for so long about 30 mins for the food . We ordered pad thai and ramen . About padthai , it Extremely salty , it 100% not padthai , noddle hard not cook enough time and not correct style of noodle About ramen , meat ( pork ) is good , but noodle from instand noodle and once again hard . Broth I will not eat because it only make from salt , i will die and get sick if i eat that

Get the dumplings in soup!! They were so delicious we came back a few times for more. Note that this place can get busy during peak hours.
Ant W — Google review
We were happy to find good veggie options, but wouldn't rush back. The gyoza were nice but the accompanying ramen soup very cabbagey; and the pad thai was like no pad thai I've ever eaten (I've eaten a lot including all oves Thailand). Incredibly heavy on the ginger and almost no trace of peanut.
Sophie S — Google review
Was craving a more relaxed ramen dinner, similar to the ones I'm used to in NYC. Just me, solo, and a bowl of delicious ramen, no fancy frills. This place gave me what I was looking for. The vibes are definitely hole-in-the-wall / local but in a great way. There's no indoor seating (but a nice big awning in case of rain), with several two-seater tables out into a well lit plaza with artistic graffiti on the opposite wall. I had the pork belly bun and shrimp summer roll to start. The bun was excellent with a nice ratio between bun and pork, and the pork itself holding its place as star nicely in the mouth. I wish I ordered two. The summer roll was a bit plain on the shrimp side but the veggies inside tasted crisp and fresh. As for the star of the show and the namesake of the restaurant, I had no quibbles. This is a solid ramen offering, especially for Rio. I ordered the pork belly, their standard. Broth was nicely rounded: flavorful without being too salty. I finished the whole bowl but didn't feel too stuffed by the end. I highly recommend this place.
Ryan K — Google review
Simply the best food I’ve eaten in Rio. Everything is made in house and is exceptionally good. The service is amazing, the setting is perfect for a casual ramen place, the prices are very reasonable considering how much work and effort goes into this food. I would eat there every day if I could.

Terrible taste food well presented as Japanese food on the plates. Looks can be deceiving. Food is nowhere closer to the original Japanese quality or taste. Broth in Ramen is even worse. Rice in sushi is dry and couldn't swallow it. We had a cocktail and its not good too. Expensive. Customer service is very good. Kid friendly. Ambience is nice. However when the food isn't good, everything else goes wasted.
Swetha P — Google review
The lemonade was fantastic, refreshing and exactly what I was hoping for. Unfortunately, the food was a big disappointment. The ramen was overwhelmingly salty, almost drowning in soy sauce, with undercooked noodles and an egg that tasted strange, nothing like what you’d expect in a proper ramen. The Thai chicken curry was even worse, it didn’t look or taste like curry at all. The portion had just six small pieces of chicken, while the rest was filled with raw, unseasoned vegetables. For the price, neither dish was worth it.

Kōba is an amazing and authentic ramen restaurant. The ramen and bao is amazing. I’d recommend ordering both with pork as it was extremely tasty. This is to date the best ramen I’ve ever had! Highly recommend

2 years ago this was great however i feel standards have fallen slightly especially the cleanliness of the restaurant and the way food was stored. Next to the bathroom the service door was open and all the food (which was vacuumed packed) was just laying on the floor. Service was good.

Nice quiet spot tucked away on a second floor away from the bustle of Ipanema. Tried the buta no kakuni - a pork belly dish in flavorful broth that felt very similar in a good way to my second dish which was the house ramen. Both were extremely flavorful and comforting, a touch of warmth to have in the rio winter when temperatures get down to frigid high 60s 😉. Bottom line: if you're looking for some hearty and flavorful ramen and broth with generous portions to get your money's worth, come here. I will definitely be back.

Truly delicious food. Salmon sashimi and tuna roll were fresh and rich in taste, pork gyozas were generously huge and required more than one bite to be able to eat it. Ramen was definitely a highlight of the night: tasty, well balanced in flavours broth and rich, delicious ingredients. The service was friendly, professional and quick, the place seems to be quite popular — make sure to book a table. Definitely a must if you're looking for an authentic Japanese izakaya experience!

Got the tonkatsu, pork gyoza and Ramen along with ashai beer snd a glass of sake. Tonkatsu was slightly burnt. Also very thick. Tonkatsu should be pounded thinly. This way the coating will not get burnt before the meat is cooked. Tonkatsu was served with the sauce on the peices. This makes the coating soggy. The goyza was pretty good but had the mayonnaise on the gyoza. Some people like myself am not a fan of mayonnaise on my gyoza and prefer soy sauce. The Ramen broth was pretty good though it had a slight fishy taste to it. Not unpleasant but unexpected. The Ramen came out later than the other 2 dishes had been consumed. This made me wait around while my friend ate thier food. Annoying. Service was good. The first server, woman, was helpful in choosing the dishes and selecting the sake. The sake was delicious. Prices were fair. Given the limited places in rio that serve tonkatsu this place is worth checking out. BTW the location is upstairs.

Visited in July 2024. Brazil. Rio de Janeiro. We happened to be passing by and were in the mood for some Asian cuisine, so we decided to give this place a go. The restaurant is small and has a pleasant outdoor terrace, which is a bonus. Inside, however, the lighting is rather dim and the tables feel cramped, lacking any sense of privacy. Food: As an Asian-inspired restaurant, the menu features a variety of small plates and sushi rolls, which is what we focused on. We opted for several starters to sample a range of flavours. The scallop with melon ponzu was well-executed in terms of the protein, but the truffle lemon mousse was a let-down, tasting overly mayonnaise-like and weighing the dish down. We couldn't detect any truffle or lemon notes. The "by the Hands of chef" appetizer was visually interesting but lacked flavour balance. The prawn inside was bland, the breadcrumb coating was overly thick, and the soft salmon didn't complement the other elements. However, the tuna with foie gras was a highlight of the evening, featuring fresh, delicious tuna with the smooth, buttery flavour of the foie gras. Unfortunately, our final starter, a rice-less roll with a mix of salmon, prawn, and fresh tuna, was marred by the addition of asparagus. The textures didn't work together, and removing the asparagus would have improved the dish significantly. Service: The service was adequate, although the restaurant was quite full, so we didn't receive much attention, and some dishes took longer than expected. Dirty plates were cleared when new dishes arrived. Overall: The food at this restaurant felt rather underwhelming. Out of everything we sampled, only a couple of starters stood out. This restaurant is a one-time experience for us, as there are stronger Japanese restaurants nearby.

Katz-Sü is a trendy spot in the southern part of Rio de Janeiro, offering a unique blend of Thai, Korean, and Japanese flavors. The cozy atmosphere and excellent service make for a delightful dining experience.
Great service in a relaxed atmosphere. Food is great and flavorful, particularly the Vegan Curry and the fried rice. The octopus was perfectly cooked. The ramen was missing salt, but nothing that could not de corrected by adding some at the table to bring out the rich flavor of the braised rib. If you manege to have any dessert after starters (fried cauliflower is a must) and entrees, order the one with chocolate ganache, salted caramel, and matcha ice cream. Good cost benefit ratio. Patrons coming by car should start looking for a parking spot from Rua Lopes Quintas.

Three out of the four plates we ordered where garnished on top with too much mayo. Lovely chill place with outdoor seating, cool crowd, super friendly staff, and delicious plates. Had the Ramen braseada, edamame braseado, couve flor tempura and arroz frito de porco. All the dishes were delicious. A small delay in one dish was handled very nicely by the staff. Nothing to complain about, definitely going back for more. 😋

Jappa da Quitanda - Centro, born in 2019 on Rua da Quitanda, has expanded to other locations in Rio de Janeiro such as Copacabana, Ipanema, Nitero and Barra da Tijuca. The restaurant offers a contemporary Japanese cuisine experience with unique creations like temari bonbons and a variety of sushi options. The flagship location in Centro features a three-story building where guests can enjoy the innovative dishes along with great signature cocktails.
Top!!

The place is quite nice and I must say that they have a great service! Everything is fresh and the food is delivered to the table super quickly. The all you can eat option is totally worth it as you have plenty of options to choose from, including deserts. The manager also approached us a couple of times to check of everything was OK and if we needed anything else, so very friendly.

Good japanese food option by kilo. Just hot food was cold... They need to pay attention on that.

(Translated by Google) I went to celebrate my husband's birthday today, Tuesday. We arrived around 2:15 pm. We were well attended to from start to finish. The food was DELICIOUS. The restaurant has beautiful decor and 3 floors. There is a buffet option and an all-you-can-eat option, which we chose. It was a wonderful afternoon. And at the end, we took pictures and even got a free piece of cake with a candle and sang happy birthday! 10/10!!! Wonderful!!!!! (Original) Fui comemorar o aniversário do meu marido, hoje, terça-feira. 10/10!!! Maravilhosos!!!!!

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately, my experience at this restaurant was extremely frustrating. The buffet had very little variety and, when I ordered a dish from the menu, in addition to the absurd delay, it came with a completely different side dish than the one shown in the photo. I asked for a change and they took even longer — in the end, the dish arrived completely cold. At the cashier, they tried to charge me R$167 for this dish + a bottle of water. Only after I pointed out the error did they correct it to R$97, and even then without any apology. In fact, it would have been fairer not to have charged at all, considering the terrible experience from start to finish. The bathroom was also a disgrace: there was no soap, and even after asking the employee, they took so long to refill it that it was easier to leave and use the bathroom on another floor. In short: the prices are exorbitant, but the food, service and cleanliness are worthy of a low-rent bar. The place tries to market itself as something sophisticated, but delivers a regrettable experience. I really do not recommend it.

(Translated by Google) Good Japanese food. I had the premium all-you-can-eat menu (R$150, with a 12% service charge, for a total of R$168), but they also offer a simple option (R$120). I found it expensive for what it offers. It's more trendy than necessary; there are better Japanese restaurants in the same price range. The service is okay, as is the atmosphere, which can be a bit distracting due to the crowds. But it's not bad. However, there are options available on the à la carte menu that aren't available at the all-you-can-eat menu. I think it's better to order à la carte than at the all-you-can-eat menu. (Original) Boa comida japonesa.

Sushi Vaz is a renowned Japanese restaurant in Rio de Janeiro, offering an unmissable omakase experience. The establishment prides itself on serving super fresh fish with top-notch preparation and excellent service at a fair price. The 16-step omakase menu is highly recommended, featuring well-served portions of dishes such as fish broth with miso, bluefin tuna pieces, olhete and cavaca, and spicy tuna rolls.
I loved this experience so much. I had never done such an elaborate omakase - as this would cost 3 times as much in Amsterdam - but i’m confident in saying it was really really good. Fish was fresh, staff was super skilled and friendly. We had amazing sake and the place is really cute. 10/10

Sneaky good omakase spot I slipped up on while in Rio for carnival. Ended up going twice in one week. Fresh fish, creative flavors, fair pricing and many sake options. $80 for 16 courses. I’ll be back!

A highly recommended stop if you are lucky enough to pass through Rio. (Original) Quando si va in un omakase bisogna affidarsi totalmente alla proposta dello chef. (Translated by Google) This week I treated myself to an omakase at Sushi Vaz. The place is small but nice (photo 1). Although the experience was very good, I must admit that it fell a little short of my expectations. There were 16 courses, as described in the table (photo 2). Some courses were fantastic (red snapper and red snapper sushi, ebispicy and sea bass usuzukuri), others not so much (Canadian scallop sashimi and clam broth). However, everything was at least good, with a special mention for the unagi/freshwater eel. One of the best delicacies I have ever tasted in my life. I had two shots of excellent sake. The service was friendly and patient. I would like to highlight the excellent and very interesting description of the dishes and the presentation of interesting facts about Japanese cuisine. (Original) Nesta semana me presentei com o omakase do Sushi Vaz.

(Translated by Google) Rio branch of São Paulo's famous Vaz sushi. It maintains the high quality standards, with everything very well executed, generous portions, and a good price. A 16-course omakase cost R$450, and everything was excellent. The chefs are very attentive and answer all of the diners' questions, in addition to making adjustments whenever possible. Highlights include the fish broth with miso, the bluefin tuna pieces, the red snapper, and the cavaca and spicy tuna rolls. I tried items that are truly hard to find elsewhere, such as live seaweed, mentaikko, and mini octopus (none as exceptional as the other items, but it was worth it to experience new flavors and new experiences). The biggest drawback is the physical structure, which is very cramped and could be considered claustrophobic for those with sensitive skin. Another problem is the menu being quite limited and traditional, offering few options for traditional Brazilian sushi eaters, as they don't offer salmon, cream cheese, jams, or other concoctions that Brazilians tend to love. Given these points, it can't be classified as the best omakase in Rio; there are other restaurants that are much more inclusive. Sushi Vaz is more for those seeking a traditional and exclusive experience. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience and plan to return.

Yujo Barra da Tijuca is a charming Japanese restaurant located in the Jardim Oceanico area. Chef Marcelo Yamasaki offers a delightful menu featuring special sashimi dishes such as truffled salmon, tuna with foie gras, and scallop. Guests can also enjoy fresh oysters with salmon roe ponzu sauce, pork or shrimp gyoza, and corn tempura to start.
(Translated by Google) I went on 02/01/2025 for a dating anniversary dinner at 8 pm. I reserved a table at the counter and was served perfectly. The restaurant's chef was responsible for making all of our orders during the experience. Furthermore, all of the fish pieces and everything we ordered were extremely fresh. It was the first time I tried uni (sea urchin) and it was wonderful. I would like to highlight the “omakase experience” which surprises with its flavors, especially the pieces with crayfish and the gyoza which had the most delicious filling I've ever had. The tastiest sushi: snapper (especially recommended by the chef, one of the three white fish options of the day). NOTE: The espresso is from the Orfeu brand and comes with meringue.

(Translated by Google) Great service from all the staff, efficient and proactive. A detail that saved the restaurant. The combos are just ok, the fish lacked freshness. The shimeji came with a strong ammonia smell, which happens when the product is not fresh and has been stored for too long. It was replaced after a complaint. The second shimeji came better, although it still tasted of ammonia. Edamame looked old, it came out of the freezer and was not heated well. Shrimp yakimeshi was very weak, the shrimp were frozen and tasteless. The worst was the udon, the soy sauce soup tasted like hot water with a lot of soy sauce, the fish noodles were hard due to the time it had been in the fridge and the udon noodles were completely loose from being stored for so long. Those who know the noodles know that the noodles are elastic and ‘sticky’, they become loose after being stored for too long. It has potential, but the chef needs to be trained. The biggest problem with Japanese restaurants in Rio must be the precarious access to fresh, oriental ingredients.

I highly recommend the 1st floor, which has a decor that resembles a cozy cave. We ordered the truffled salmon Usuzukuri with 10 slices (R$57), the salmon tartar (R$51) and the pork Domburi (R$65). To drink, we ordered a glass of white wine (R$38) and the sake tasting (R$42). The service was quite rushed because it was very busy, but the manager was attentive and present at every table. It was a great experience and I recommend it. (Original) Restaurante asiático super charmoso na Barra, com comida deliciosa.
