Arpoador Beach, nestled between Ipanema and Copacabana beaches in Rio's Zona Sul, is a beloved destination for both locals and visitors. During the day, it's a hotspot for surfers seeking consistent waves amidst towering cliffs. As the sun sets, Arpoador becomes a magnet for those eager to witness its breathtaking sunset views over the ocean, with Dois Irmaos peaks providing a stunning backdrop.
Praia do Arpoador is a unique beach with amazing views in Rio de Janeiro. The beach itself borders the famous Leblon beach, which is considered one of the safest places in the famous Rio de Janeiro. Right next to the beach itself is the famous Pedra do Arpoador lookout point from where we can also enjoy the amazing views, as well as the waves crashing on the rocks there. The beach itself is very narrow, but its shape and the views in the background are electrifyingly impressive. Definitely a place worth recommending.

Arpoador Beach is beautiful! 🌅 A perfect spot to enjoy the view and relax.

Loved this beach so much, great for surfers too, it’s big and friendly, if you come to Rio you definitely should visit it❤️
Lucia S — Google review
A beautiful place to take photos and videos and to chill in the sun. You can also find a lot of activities like an improvised beach gym, surfing, table tennis and others
Iulia U — Google review
Go up the rocks and enjoy another great view of Rio. You can see the beaches of Arpoador, Ipanema and Leblon on your right and maybe you can get a quick view of the Christ statue if you look behind the buildings. If you are there, just wait until the sunset, and enjoy the view.
Rodrigo G — Google review
Absolutely love this place. Go here often during my 3-month stay.

Ipanema Beach is a renowned stretch of coastline in Rio de Janeiro, famous for sunbathing and sports like soccer and volleyball. It is located south of Copacabana Beach, separated by the Copacabana Fort. Nearby attractions include Dentro Beach and Diabo Beach.
Cannot recommend this beach enough, it has a cool, laid back vibe and the sand is white with a deep blue sea. As the sun is setting the music begins to blare and the beach area and promenade come alive. Absolutely worth a visit to soak in the charm of Rio.
Kara H — Google review
Great beach stunning views of the mountains. Come with a group that preferably speaks Portuguese, people come up to you constantly trying to sell things and also ask for selfies. Beautiful people and great water, but with only two people it did feel very vulnerable.
Zachary F — Google review
The beach is spectacular and really good for people watching and sunbathing. It is never boring to stroll along the beach and notice all the happenings. Plenty of vendors to dine and entertain.
John Y — Google review
Beautiful beach to walk all the way through, got the opportunity to see the sunset here and it was stunning. They have exercise stations and a beach gym to get a nice workout
Santiago D — Google review
Probably the most beautiful beach in Rio, much better than Copacabana due to the view. There are vendors and people who rent umbrellas and such, but they were never too pushy like some people say. Overall a very chill vibe. I recommend buying the street corner as a snack, it’s very good!
Nick R — Google review
Amazing beach, but NEVER buy anything from the walking sellers. I paied 1000$ for one caipirinha😢 They hacked the paymemt terminal , even applepay doesn’ help. So be careful
Martin D — Google review
Beautiful beach with a lot to see and do. Nice shops and food vendors in a perfect setting. Clean, clear, beautiful water and beach. Great place to spend a day.

Prainha Beach is a charming and small cove beach located in Rio de Janeiro, offering a rustic surf haven with excellent surfing conditions. However, swimming can be dangerous due to strong currents. The area is free from high-rise buildings, providing a refreshing escape with occasional wooden fish restaurants and ice-cold coconut water stands.
Visiting Prainha was an unforgettable experience. Tucked away in a stunning natural setting, the beach feels like a hidden paradise surrounded by lush green hills and dramatic cliffs. The golden sand and crystal-clear water made it perfect for both relaxing and taking a refreshing swim. The waves were gentle in the morning and more lively in the afternoon, making it a great spot for surfers and swimmers alike. Despite its beauty, Prainha maintained a peaceful, uncrowded atmosphere that made the day feel truly special. Whether you’re looking to sunbathe, explore the scenic trails nearby, or just soak in the breathtaking views, Prainha is a must-visit destination that captures the very best of nature’s charm.
Louie S — Google review
The beach itself is amazing, beautiful it blends the city with nature, just by turning around a corner.. Great options to eat seafood based meals and an amazing spot for surfing. Which makes it not so welcoming to swimmers, cause there usually are a lots of waves. Phone reception over there is really bad, so getting an uber to leave the place might be an ordeal, i'd recommend a car, a bycicle or accept the fact that you might have to walk back part of the way before u can get Internet again (but there is a chance that u'll get internet over there).
Felipe C — Google review
Amazing scenery beach in Rio. Great for those who surf. Families are welcome too. I recommend you to visit it before 11h am specially during the weekends when it gets crowded.
Paulo R — Google review
Great beach in a little cove. Water is great, ground is firm unlike other beaches, and waves are pretty good sized to body surf and swing in.
Hayden S — Google review
Absolutely wonderful and small cove beach in Rio de Janeiro.

I call this place the Hawaii of Rio!! It is beautiful, clean, safe and full of waves. The restaurant located at the point is pretty tasty and a little pricy. Prainha is a must when visiting Rio!!!
Ryan S — Google review
One of Rio' best beachs, prainha is small and full of natural florest. It is loved by the surf community.
Lu J — Google review
Lovely beach. Go during the day, while the sun is up! Just make sure it doesn't get dark while you are at Prainha beach, we couldn't find a taxi and struggled a bit as wifi connection didn't work well either.

Copacabana Beach is an iconic 2.2-mile stretch of sandy coastline with a bustling promenade, food kiosks, and hotels. The beach extends for about 4km and offers a lively atmosphere with soccer players, locals, and tourists enjoying caipirinhas at the kiosks. Visitors can also witness kids showcasing their soccer skills and beach vendors selling various items. It's recommended to check the water quality before swimming due to occasional contamination after heavy rainfall.
Copacabana Beach is iconic! Stunning views, soft sand, and lively atmosphere make it a must-visit. Great for a swim, relaxing, or enjoying local street food. Vendors are friendly, and the vibe is electric, especially at sunset. Safe if you stay aware. An unforgettable Rio experience!
Zachery D — Google review
By far the best beach in the refion. It's lively both at day and night. Free showers are also up for grabs and there are several spots where you can rent an umbrella and/or chairs for a fair price.
Filip M — Google review
Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro is everything you imagine it to be — and more! The moment you step onto the soft golden sand, you can feel the vibrant energy that makes this beach world-famous. The stunning curve of the coastline, framed by lush green hills and the rhythmic sound of the Atlantic waves, creates a picture-perfect scene that feels straight out of a postcard. What makes Copacabana so special is the unique blend of relaxation and excitement. In the mornings, it’s peaceful and ideal for a refreshing swim or a quiet walk along the promenade. As the day goes on, the beach comes alive with locals playing volleyball and football, vendors selling refreshing coconut water, and musicians adding a joyful samba rhythm to the air. The iconic black-and-white wave-patterned boardwalk is another highlight — perfect for strolling, cycling, or simply soaking in the view of the sea and city skyline. There are plenty of beachfront cafés and kiosks where you can enjoy delicious Brazilian snacks and fresh juices while watching the sunset paint the sky in shades of orange and pink. Copacabana Beach isn’t just a place — it’s an experience of Rio’s soul: warm, lively, and unforgettable. Whether you go to relax, meet people, or simply admire the breathtaking scenery, it’s a destination that leaves a lasting impression. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Rio — Copacabana is pure magic. 🇧🇷✨
LOUIE Y — Google review
Sept.25: We went to the famous Copacabana Beach. We taught it would be crowded as it was weekend, however this wasn't the case. There were a lot of local vendors selling all kinds of stuff & many different food, icecreams & drinks. Some brought a complete umbrella with bikinis & thongs as well as really nice looking grilled big scampis (we didn't try as we didn't know how long they were exposed to sun, etc.) & many more. As we need to get the Copacabana beach vipe, we bought a 700ML freshly pressed lime caipirinha. Delicious, but with the sun & almost on an empty stomach; I got hit very fast. In the far we saw Christ the Redeemer (big, famous Jezus statue of 30 m height on a hill), we hope to visit one of these days.
Petra ( — Google review
Here's a good review of Copacabana beach: Copacabana is more than just a beach; it's the vibrant, beating heart of Rio de Janeiro. The moment you step onto its famous wave-patterned promenade, you feel an electric energy. The 4km stretch of sand is a democratic playground for everyone—you'll see intense games of footvolley, locals sunbathing, and tourists sipping água de coco from the countless kiosks. The view is spectacular, with the curving bay framed by Sugarloaf Mountain on one end. It’s a must-see for its sheer iconic status and incredible people-watching, capturing the city's lively spirit perfectly.
Rahul R — Google review
One of the famous beaches in the world was worth visiting. A fairly clean that has many things to offer - from food stalls to watching people play volleyball, soccer and other games, enjoying a nice drink, snacks and food. A good place to get your morning or afternoon walk/run as well. A safe place compared to some parts of Rio. From good to excellent hotels across the beach.
Ali K — Google review
This is really a world class beach with a party ambiance. The waves could get a bit strong (could knock your glasses or sunglasses off so do have a clip or tie). The sand is fine and white. The view of the mountains add to the zen.
Bill Y — Google review
Loved this beach, it is great for long walks, it’s clean enough, it’s possible to see a beautiful sunset there. Really liked the fact that it was possible to pay by card for sunbeds, umbrellas and drinks. It’s often very busy there and I loved that vibe.

Leblon Beach is a well-known and stylish sandy stretch located at the far end of Ipanema, offering a sophisticated yet laid-back coastal charm. It attracts an affluent local crowd as well as trendsetting visitors seeking a taste of Rio's cosmopolitan beach culture. The beach features upscale kiosks and restaurants serving gourmet seafood dishes and refreshing caipirinhas along its wide, well-maintained promenade.
Leblon Beach in Rio de Janeiro is one of the city's most upscale and tranquil beach spots. Known for its soft white sand and calm waters, it's a favorite among locals and visitors seeking a more relaxed atmosphere compared to the busier Ipanema and Copacabana beaches. The area is also surrounded by high-end restaurants and shops, making it a perfect destination for a laid-back day by the sea with a touch of luxury.
Cleverly S — Google review
One of the big 3 beaches in Rio Beautiful beach that’s a tad bit less crowded than ipanema and Copacabana. Also near by is really good nightlife in Leblon. Of course during carnival it is very crowded as is everywhere in Rio.
Charlie — Google review
Leblon Beach in Rio de Janeiro is one of the city’s most refined and relaxed stretches of sand. It feels like an upscale extension of Ipanema, yet with a calmer, more local atmosphere. The beach is clean, well-kept, and lined with kiosks serving fresh coconut water, açaí, and caipirinhas. The sand is soft and golden, and the waves are gentle enough for swimming but still lively enough for body-surfing. On clear days, the views of the Two Brothers (Dois Irmãos) mountains are breathtaking, especially at sunset when the sky turns pink and gold. What makes Leblon stand out is its sense of community and safety. Families, joggers, and friends gather for morning walks or beach volleyball, and there’s a designated area called “Baixo Bebê” that’s perfect for kids. Lifeguards are attentive, and vendors are friendly without being pushy. The nearby streets offer boutique shopping, stylish cafés, and excellent restaurants like Zazá and CT Boucherie, making it easy to transition from beach time to dinner. Leblon Beach perfectly captures the elegance of Rio’s beach culture—laid-back yet sophisticated, scenic yet approachable. It’s the ideal spot to enjoy the ocean breeze, people-watch, and experience the city’s true Carioca lifestyle.

Great stretch of beach. A nice walk from my stay in Copa, and well worth the time and effort. You can check out the fort on the way, through Ipanema beach.

One of the most underrated/ unknown beaches in Rio - everyone knows Copacabana and Ipanema but not this one. In walking distance from Leblon, safe child friendly leafy area. Great for runs walks volleyball and similar net ball sports and CrossFit. Loved it

Amazing place, calm, lots of beautiful people and I felt safe. There is an amazing restaurant called O Bacana near by the 12. You can rent recliners and umbrellas on the beach, I always rented from Beto (tent 153) and they were amazing and the best part is that they take cash and credit card.
Marcio L — Google review
People say it's nice... I say It's beautiful. It's not dangerous. Just don't be a freaking idiot! Why walk on the beach dressed up nice. Why bring valuable goods?? Just don't do it and you'll never be a Target! Great beach to tan or swim and good for finding cool seashells!
Henry M — Google review
Absolutely beautiful, colorful sea waves, turquoise, blue, clear water.Sometimes waves are very strong, keep and eye if you are with children those waves are quite strong.Umbrellas and chairs for rent, 7brl for chair and 20brl for an umbrella. Some food and drink kiosks near by.Showers to rainse yourself, sometimes water smells bad though so becareful smell water first, others showers are just water from the sea, they run a hose from the sea to the shower.A lot of vendors by the beach, you can purchse alcohol from them as well, they take cash or cards.Great bech to spend the day just relaxing and playing with the waves.I did see some public washroom for a fee but I didn't use them.Parking could be a hassle.I rented a city bike they have few bike stations around.I felt safe, but always keep and eye on your stuff. Some parts has a beach lifeguard, and depend on the weather they will put a flag telling you by the colours is it safe to swim.Enjoy every second!♥️

Praia da Joatinga is an iconic beach located in a fashionable district of Rio de Janeiro. It has become popular on Instagram due to its impressive sunsets and stunning scenery. Although not as easily accessible as other beaches in the area, it offers a unique and private experience. The beach is situated within a condominium and offers breathtaking views, making it perfect for activities like rappelling along the cliffs. Visitors can enjoy the tranquil atmosphere and purchase refreshing coconut juice from nearby vendors.
Hard to reach via Uber and even harder to get one to pickup from the bottom but strikingly beautiful beach. Very strong waves so be careful to go during low tide.
Steven S — Google review
Check for tide information online in advance. Come on low tide only. The beach is picturesque but hard to reach, I do not recommend for families with kids or older people. Wear comfortable shoes.
Lizaveta M — Google review
I don’t know my opinion was pretty lame. I expected much more than what it was granted it was high tide, but still even during low tide It wouldn’t been what I expected. Now the beach on the other side of the point there towards the west that was really nice. I’ll try to explore that one, but I would never come back to this one never say never but
Shawn R — Google review
One of the most stunning views in Rio.. It's like a remote beach where you have to pass through a condominium of houses. There is a cliff side where we practice Rapel and it was amazing. It was our first time doing Rapel, and the views were just amazing with helicopters passing from time to time and a beautiful beach near by.. They sell cold coconut juice near by so whenever your thirsty just go up and by for a couple of reais. Would definitely go back there
Miguel B — Google review
Joa Beach is a dreamy, romantic spot perfect for a getaway. It’s got easy access, though you’ll want to call an Uber to get there comfortably. The scenery is stunning—ideal for photos—but keep an eye on the tide, as it can sneak up on you. A beautiful place to make memories!

Sooo beautiful and not too crowded on a Saturday in March. Careful though the tides and waves are strong and dangerous if you wade in too deep!

Amazing beach! I really loved and it wasn't crowed! Just be careful with the sea cause we almost lost our stuff! We were chilling and the wave came and make us all wet at the sand.

Praia do Secreto, also known as Secret Beach, is a hidden gem located in Recreio, Rio de Janeiro. This picturesque sandy beach features tide pools suitable for swimming and is protected by smooth rocks and the ocean, creating a natural pool that forms only when the tide is low. While it's no longer a well-kept secret and has gained popularity among locals, accessing the beach can be challenging as visitors need to navigate steep stones to reach it.
Great place! Hard to access but totally worthy. Very secluded so make it special and less crowded.

Is not easy to reach the place, not recommended for older people because you have to go down through the stones to reach the small beach, but it certainly is a beautiful and calmed place to spend a couple of hours. One important thing: you have to bring your own stuff, there is no one selling anything there. But it completely worths it.

Difficult to climb down the rocks. Do not take coolers, chairs, maybe not even your cell phone. It gets crowded during the weekends.
Guilherme B — Google review
It's a beautiful place. A little hard to get there, as you have to go down a trail over rocks, so I wouldn't recommend for children and elderly. Also important to check the tides and waves, they need to be low. Go in the morning, it's shadow in the afternoon.

Careful! Got my cellphone stollen on this trail to the beach.. He came out of no where and told us to get on the ground. Just be safe and don't carry valuables.

The beach is located on the outskirts of the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro and stretches for 11 miles (18 kilometers). The calm waters and wide expanse of sand make it a popular spot for families and water sports enthusiasts, with surfers, bodyboarders, kite surfers, and windsurfers all enjoying good waves. The beach is usually quiet during the week but busy on weekends.
Such a perfect view of the window towards the most delightful beaches in Brazil, quite long and clean. Not as crowded as Copacabana but as beautiful as that and even more relaxing and comforting. The white sand beside green space under the Blue Sky truly talks to you and inspire you that heaven is this.

This is a beautiful beach if you're in the area and want to check it out. There a lot of things to do here besides just walking in the sand. There also some food places on the top. Crossing the street to get here would be the biggest challenge unless you go in the early morning like I did. The weather was nice and it was after it rained a bit so the whole view was clear and beautiful.

I enjoyed this beach a lot! There’s plenty of good places to eat within walking distance. You can also get food @ the beach of course. It was cool seeing all the water sports people were doing. My first time trying the “cheese with honey” it was so good!

One of the best beaches in Rio quite long and clean. Try to pick up a spot far from bus stops to avoid a crowded area. Parking sometimes and during weekends can be a challenge. Amazing sunset mood.

I’m from Brisbane, Australia 🇦🇺 and we have very nice perfect beaches in Queensland. But here, they know how to truly enjoy and relax with live music and good drinking coconuts. Combine this with good company and honestly all your stress and worries fly away. Lovely place and lovely people. I would just add that the people of Rio need to honestly stop charging more for Gringos, Cariocas (Rio locals) 99% of the time always look to overcharge or get more money from “dumb” foreign looking people. Be careful. They try to sell you drugs on the beach. Don’t go near the Favelas. Trust my opinion, my wife is from São Paulo, and I’ve been to Rio twice.

Hello tourists. This is RECREIO beach.A strip of sand for about 10 km or so.It´s after Barra and before Macumba and the stone. It was wild back them, nobody at all. There you see a labor city and none peasant, athlete or entertainer. It´s only sand,no stones or bricks in the way.I remeber a nature with stone in the middle of the beach ahead ,in Prainha and macumba is cut by a stone also. The quiosques still about old generation,I think few of woods, closed long time with only a few fidel customers or so.It´s about yourselve. The beach has nothing actually. If you have cash or seek hanging or so.I loved do this course by myself, admire femsle athletes and very loyals. But even for a bolshoii dancer she would complain a lot about so much studies in her country to see litter, low wages and people struggling close to her.And many other complains.... Was good, her coach would avise her.I am sure she understand only of practice. Maybe kyte needs crowds or close to civilization, nobody is up to show and desert brazil. This is our biggest beach and desert so far. No safe guards, dangerous waters. No kind at all. Good walk!

Beach
Praia do Leblon is one of the most popular gay-friendly beaches in Rio de Janeiro, along with Farme de Amoedo Beach and Copacabana Beach. It is frequented by the high-class society and offers a superb view over the city. The water quality is excellent, making it a safe and beautiful beach to visit. Visitors can enjoy bar and chair service at some kiosks while taking in the cheerful atmosphere with music, dancing, and volleyball.
Leblon Beach is a beautiful and clean spot, perfect for a relaxing beach day. Compared to Copacabana, the area feels much cleaner and calmer, with far fewer homeless people around. It also feels safer, offering a more laid-back and upscale vibe. Renting beach chairs and umbrellas is easy, and the best part is you can pay with a credit card, making the experience very convenient. If you’re looking for a quieter beach with great service and a safe atmosphere, Leblon Beach is an excellent choice.
Xavier P — Google review
A Slice of Soap Opera Paradise – Leblon Beach is Pure Magic If there were ever a beach that feels like stepping into the world of a Brazilian telenovela, it’s Leblon Beach. Nestled in the upscale southern zone of Rio de Janeiro, Leblon isn’t just a beach – it’s a scene straight out of “Viver a Vida” or “Laços de Família”, where dramatic sunsets and beautiful people are just part of everyday life. From the moment you set foot on the soft golden sand, you feel like Helena, the iconic character played by Regina Duarte and later Taís Araújo, contemplating life with the waves as your soundtrack. Leblon is where glamour meets soul – it’s no surprise that so many Globo novelas have chosen this exact backdrop for their most iconic scenes. Looking to the Morro Dois Irmãos at sunset is like watching the final frame of a primetime soap – glowing, emotional, unforgettable. The beach is both elegant and relaxed, much like the characters from “Mulheres Apaixonadas” who strolled its calçadão, facing love and life’s dilemmas under the tropical sun. Leblon is quieter and more refined than its neighbor Ipanema, often seen as the “protagonist’s beach” – where the real stories unfold. The neighborhood is filled with charming cafés and bistros where you half-expect to bump into your favorite novela star discussing their next big scene. Whether you’re sipping água de coco, jogging along the shore, or simply people-watching with a caipirinha in hand, Leblon Beach makes you feel like you’re living inside a beautifully written script. Every moment is a close-up. Every breeze carries the soundtrack of “Avenida Brasil” or “Paraíso Tropical.” It’s not just a beach. It’s a story – and you’re the star.
Gustavo D — Google review
The Leblon beach in Rio de Janeiro is a beach where there is a lot of high class society frequentations. Apparently, that’s what locals say from the favelas, that’s why it’s called by a French classy word which means blond haired: Le Blond contracted as Leblon. Maybe that’s just some people’s perception and/or imagination, but that’s what they say down there.

Nice little beach at the very end of the reserve ( road past this beach climbs up and over the cliffs and then back down to Guaratiba) Rock wall jutting out on right side shelters the beach from wind so it makes it nice for swimming and a little less windy than some of the more open beaches.. Plenty of little kiosk restaurants with seating ,( or they will bring food right to your spot on the beach) some beach chair and umbrella rentals if needed, in early evenings some Capybara often come out grazing here as well .. Pretty much all kiosks , etc... Close here close to sunset

(Translated by Google) I don't like giving negative feedback, but I believe it can contribute to improvements. The restaurant's structure is impeccable, with a very pleasant and well-maintained atmosphere. However, unfortunately, the service and food left something to be desired on my first visit. It took almost an hour to receive our appetizers. The first appetizer we ordered wasn't made; we were only notified when the main course was delivered and said they would prepare it later. When the ceviche arrived, although tasty, it was very oily. Furthermore, only three toasts arrived, even though it was an appetizer for two people. We asked for more, but were not served. The tapioca cubes were also disappointing: they arrived looking unappealing, oily, and raw/lacking in consistency. Finally, the octopus was the item that disappointed us the most. On the menu, it was listed as 400g, but it clearly came much less. If it was 200g, it was a lot. Again, the flavor was good, but it was a bit rubbery, and the excess oil ruined the experience. I'm offering this feedback as a contribution. The place has enormous potential, but the price-to-quality ratio, at least on this visit, fell short of expectations.

This has got to be the prettiest beach in downtown Rio, just at the bottom of Sugar Loaf. Worlds away from urbanized and crowded beaches like Ipanema and Copacabana, it is much cozier and wilder, meaning it's not for everybody. Good for relaxing and sunbathing. Its waters are often dangerous though, red flags often placed along the sand stretch, making it not recommended for children and those who enjoy bathing, even if a life guard is always on duty. There are restaurants nearby, chairs for rent, some food sellers on the sidewalk. PS* It can get pretty crowded on weekends.

Public beach
Praia do Leme is an extension of Copacabana Beach, offering a calmer atmosphere and a wide sandy area. It's popular among a diverse crowd, including musicians, fashion enthusiasts, and nightlife lovers. The beach is sometimes referred to as Leme de Noronha due to its clear and calm waters. While swimming may be restricted at times, the beach provides stunning scenery for leisurely walks along the boardwalk lined with food kiosks serving local and international cuisine.
An excellent place to walk throughout the day with a couple of kms of open beach. Swimming is another story. Most of the time, during this time of the year, it is red flagged. The scenery is awesome. This is mainly Copacabana. If you go to the south, you'll find yourself walking - exhausted - in Ipanema. Another beautiful place. The boardwalk in Copacabana is dotted with kiosks that serve a variety of foods and drinks. Brazilian music in almost everyone single one. There're public restrooms about every 100-200 mts. Most of them are well kept and clean with a keeper for service and security. Seniors are free. If you're eating at a kiosk, the attendant will give you a pass for free to the restroom. The beach is well kept too. I'm here in May. Keep in mind that winter is about to start. This is the perfect time because it's not that hot but it's sunny most of the time.

Less crowded than Copacabana and with less hype than Ipanema, Leme is the place to go with your family. During the summer, when water is more calm and a bit warmer, you can have a Caribbean feel near by the rocks, with crystal looks. If you get hungry, you should try esfiha from Alexandre, the best one in Leme, and ice tea from Robson, one of the few that sells a no suggar option.

Praia da Reserva, located on the west side of Rio in Barra da Tijuca, is a long sandy beach and reserve that attracts surfers, swimmers, and sunbathers. The area is known for its mellow, rural vibe and is famous for its beaches, lakes, rivers, and lifestyle. It hosted most of the venues for the 2016 Summer Olympics. The beach offers clean sand and water with snack shacks along the shore.
LOOONG beach, clean sand, clean water, lots of snack shacks along the shore, perfect if you want to just relax or catch some waves! The sand strip itself isn't very wide (at least during the period I was there), but it's enough to lay down and get some sun!

Very quiet beach, perfect to read a book and enjoy your peace. No sellers bothering you. The only downside are those chairs you use from the shops, rusty and barely holding it together. 3 chairs broke while I was using them and I am a skinny guy.

Nestled just beyond the popular Prainha, Praia de Grumari is a hidden gem that offers a slice of paradise for beach lovers. This small and secluded sandy stretch is perfect for surfing, swimming, sunbathing, and even kitesurfing. While it may lack extensive amenities—only featuring a few thatch-roof huts serving drinks and snacks—the stunning red sands framed by lush hills make up for it with breathtaking natural beauty.
Beautiful and remote beach. Unfortunately it was raining so we didn't stay long, but we enjoyed a bit of time playing volleyball and rubbing our feet in the sand.

Great waves, beautiful beach, and cold beer at your fingertips! Definitely worth the jaunt from Rio. Also, the nearby Prainha beach is small and fills up quick. So, if you don't find parking, head here instead. Also, if the waves aren't working at Prainha they maybe working here. The only bummer about this spot is that the food options are pretty disgusting. Greasy deep fried food in a less than appetizing kitchen.

Praia do Abricó is Rio's official nude beach, located within the Grumari Environmental Protection Area. It offers a wild and secluded atmosphere with lush greenery and rocks. The white sand beach is surrounded by breathtaking nature, making it a spectacular and gorgeous spot to visit. During the week, it's a laid-back naturist beach where visitors can enjoy sunbathing in their birthday suits, while on weekends it becomes a busy gay-friendly area.
Rio's official (and gorgeous!) nude beach only about 45min outside of the bustling marvelous city of Rio. The water is a bit cold, but the white sand is always hot, and the lush green nature around it is just breathtaking. This tiny little secluded beach is spectacular. Please keep that beach clean, and take your plastic and paper out with you. HIGHLY recommend a visit when you're in Rio.

During the week it‘s a nice and laid-back naturist beach where you can enjoy the sun, beach and the sea in your birthday suit. And you get tanned all over for sure. Sometimes some old men can get bothersome and annoying when cruising around. On the weekend it’s a busy gay spot and people are open-minded in my opinion.

Praia do Diabo, also known as Devil's Beach, is a small and relaxed beach located next to the Arpoador Stone in Rio de Janeiro. It is a popular spot for surfing and sunbathing. Despite dogs not being officially allowed on the beach, many dog owners bring their pets here to enjoy the sand and surf. The beach is situated between Arpoador and Muscle Beach, offering a beautiful landscape and opportunities for beach games like frescobol and slack line.
Very atmospheric, although a tiny beach, which is located between the famous Copacabana beach and Arpoador beach and then Ipanema and Leblon. The beach itself is surrounded by rocks that are hit by high waves. All this makes Praia do Diabo a very special place. Most people haven't heard of this place because they are focused on the main beaches of Rio de Janeiro, like the aforementioned three beaches, but it's worth at least snagging a moment here.

Praia do Diabo is a small beach, near the southern end of Copacabana Beach, or the Copacabana Fort. A stone throw away, however, the water is colder. Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, often simply referred to as Lagoa, is a stunning seawater lagoon nestled in the heart of Rio de Janeiro. This picturesque spot gained international attention during the 2016 Olympics when it hosted various rowing and canoeing events. Surrounded by majestic mountains, the lagoon offers a serene escape from city life, making it a favorite among locals seeking tranquility amidst urban chaos. A scenic 7.
Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas is such a peaceful and beautiful spot in Rio, perfect for a relaxing day out. The lagoon is surrounded by stunning views of the mountains, including Christ the Redeemer in the distance, and it’s a great place for walking, cycling, or just sitting by the water. One of the highlights of my visit was spotting a capybara hanging out by the lagoon—it was such a fun and unexpected moment! The area feels very close to nature, even though it’s right in the city. Whether you’re looking for a quiet escape or a scenic place to exercise, this spot is definitely worth checking out.

With its colonial architecture, lush parks, and inviting beaches, Paquetá exudes a laid-back vibe perfect for relaxation.
Lovely little car-free island in the center of the Rio bay. A short ferry ride from Rio takes about an hour each way which is well worth the trip. It is filled with historical buildings including a church and hospital. Many of the houses are centuries old. We got a ride in a motorbike with an open cabin which was a fantastic mode of transport to view the island. On the other side can see another island with an grand house that used to be lived in by the former president I am told. Also an ancient tree (Rio's oldest I think the driver said) about 500 hundred years old!

Beautiful and safe little island 🤩 Easy to visit there by ferry. Ferry price is very reasonable and the trip by ferry is very comfortable. The Island itself is very small but worth visiting. Peaceful, easy to walk around. When it's sunny, sunset and sunrise are very beautiful, and can be very romantic.

The ferry is a fun trip and it's a nice day trip from Rio, but as the beaches aren't good for swimming and there aren't great restaurants it's pretty quiet. There's not a lot to do, we walked around the southern part of the island and it's pretty but not necessarily worth the effort if you're short on time. We took the 9am ferry and were ready to leave by noon but took the 2:30 return. There is a pretty good ice cream place right by the terminal.

Veloso is a retro bar in Rio de Janeiro that pays homage to Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes' old friend. It offers a variety of drinks and appetizers. While it's not the actual place where 'The Girl from Ipanema' was written, it holds historical significance due to its association with the famous song.
My boyfriend and I came here for lunch and it was packed. We ordered the jar of limonada, casquinha de siri, and picanha veloso. The limonada and pão de alho which came with the picanha came first, both were delicioso. Next was the casquinha with melted cheese on top, that was a first and I didn’t prefere it but the flavors were good. Lastly the picanha came out popping hot still sizzling with brócoli rice and fries. The fries were cooked well, needed salt. The rice was good also needed salt. & the picanha was delicious tender and could definitely feed 4 no problem. The total was about $R330 or 60 USD super worth it for a good filling lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Would I come again? No. Nothing stands out and there are many other corner spots just like it but we didn’t regret spending money here.

Praia do Perigoso, or "Dangerous Beach," lives up to its name by offering an adventurous escape. Accessible only by foot via a hiking trail, this secluded sandy beach is sheltered by high cliffs and boasts a rugged, unspoiled charm. It's a haven for those seeking solitude and a connection with the natural landscape of Rio de Janeiro.
I love this beach it's one of the best in Rio de Janeiro. The water is clean perigoso is one of my favorite along the stretch of beaches so is Middle Beach. You can have fires and Camp anytime it's really safe although I wouldn't Camp if there's no one else camping but you shouldn't have a problem especially in the summer months. There's a huge Rock Mountain that you can climb and make it look like you're hanging off a cliff there's also a beautiful tidal pool where you can collect seashells. And it's a hike to get to this beaches at least 45 minutes and the trail down to perigoso can be very treacherous. Come prepared with snacks water and if you're camping definitely come with enough water.

The Estátua de Tom Jobim is an outdoor sculpture located at the beginning of Ipanema Beach, serving as a popular meeting point in the neighborhood. The statue pays homage to the renowned Brazilian composer and songwriter, Tom Jobim, who is best known for his timeless song 'The Girl from Ipanema.' This beautiful artwork has become an iconic addition to the city's architecture and offers visitors a great photo opportunity.
The girl from Ipanema is famous and was sang by several artists including Frank Sinatra and Tom Jobim himself. Just at the edge of Ipanema beach close to Copacabana beach, it’s standing by the street waiting for tourists and a little girl happened to be hanging around the statue when we got there. Even with her mom trying to get her to move out of the camera, she just keeps holding on to Tom Jobim’s hand. 😊

Ipanema is great beach for stroll. Didn't feel unsafe at all, just check the vacinity when taking pictures. Get thw whoosh app and take a scooter to see more of the beach quicker.

This statue is at the beginning of Ipanema Beach. Beach is awesome with everything you could want, food, drinks, vendors, surf school. Had a great time!

Cool place in which this statue is located - impossible not to spot it when passing by through the neighbourhood. It actually became the main meeting point at Arpoador / Ipanema beach. The statue itself is quite new and it reminds everyone of a great Brazilian singer / songwriter, who should never be forgotten, and famous for his wonderful music in many parts of the world. It's been an important addition to the city's architecture.

Praia do Vidigal is a hidden gem nestled between the bustling neighborhoods of Leblon and São Conrado, right at the base of the stunning Dois Irmãos Hill. This charming stretch of sand, measuring around 400 meters, offers breathtaking views that captivate both locals and visitors alike. While it may be small in size, its beauty makes it well worth the trek to reach it.
Very nice beach, not very many people at all (which is my preference). The entrance is a few hundred feet before the sheraton hotel if you are walking from Vidigal Favela. Didn’t spend much time here but definitely seemed like the ideal beach not too touristy despite the close proximity to the hotel. Also saw a lizard on the way down was the first but not last😂.
Tone O — Google review
A beautiful sight of the rock. At night, it gets strange out there. Lots of skinny dipping and noises.
Chelsea T — Google review
One of the best beaches in Rio. Calm and small and clean water. Sunbed + umbrella together 20 real. Cheaper than copacabana. And there are less sellers here but there is no bathroom or shower option unfortunately. There are only bars there providing food and beverages. They do not speak english at all. Cars payments are accepted.
Bilge Y — Google review
Nice beach that is much more quiet compared to Ipanema or Copa. It does get shade fast during sunset because it is below hills.
Leonard — Google review
Amazing beach with a giant rock you can dive from, its somewhat tricky to climb but doable since locals will help you. Beware theres not many facilities (no toilet and limited food and drink options) but my favourite beach in Rio! also less busy than copacabana and ipanema. Take a taxi to sheraton hotel for easy access by walking distance.
Stackk — Google review
Very nice and laid-back beach. I prefer chill environments like this so I love it, not many people here
Robert B — Google review
Lovely beach that's more private.
Kitty C — Google review
Really beautiful view!! Just check the tides before you go to make sure you can get to the shadow area safely. **BRING YOUR OWN FOOD!!!!** There are few options, no good and because of the hotel nearby it's really pricey. Menu's don't even have prices. For example, a "fruit salad" was R$40 and it had only one fruit (about 5 slices of pineapple and that's it). French fries R$50, really small. And we were with Brazilian friends...

Fortress
Forte de Copacabana is a renowned historic military fortress situated at Copacabana Beach. It features a right-hand point break that offers long rides, making it ideal for long boards and mini-mals. The fortress was built in the late 1800s to protect Rio's port and now houses a military museum with three imposing Krupp cannons. Visitors can enjoy remarkable views of the coastline from the top of the fortress and explore its unique semi-submerged location.
I'm all about castles and forts, and this one met the bar! It's easily accessible from either of the main beaches in Rio right on the corner of both. The entry price is beyond cheap, and the fort itself offers a fantastic bit of history and is accessible allowing you to see a good chunk both inside and on top. Highly recommend if you're in Rio! There's also a cafe with some food options offering wonderful views of Copacabana beach.
Michael L — Google review
Highly recommended. There are cafes along the sea front within the fort offering great views of Copacabana beach. The history of the Fort is well-preserved and presented in various displays and exhibitions. Make sure you go down the path to the main infrastructure under the main 305mm cannons which shows how life was at the fort.
Andy M — Google review
Lovely spot to watch the sunset with great views of Copacabana and the coastline. There’s a small museum (in Portuguese) that gives some interesting historical context, and it was very cool to see how the old military gun operates. Entry is around $2 USD—cash only—so bring some local currency. A peaceful and scenic place to explore away from the crowds.
Amy S — Google review
Had a nice drink with a nice view of Rio de Janeiro at Cafe 18 do Forte. Also saw a lot of people enjoying some tasty food, prices are a bit higher but lovely place to eat something and have a good rink
Michael C — Google review
There are huge cannon, small cannons, and ammunitions displaced used to protect the Fort on the Copacabana Beach. The beach is beautiful overview from the Fortress.
Henry T — Google review
For an unknown reason the tickets were free the day we visit. But even paying the entrance fee this place is worth your money. If you like learning about history this is definitely a place for you.
Aranzazu A — Google review
10 reais cash entry fee and great view of the Guanabara bay, especially at sunset. Getting a seat at Colombo was hard as it was packed so I just walked around the fort.
Amy D — Google review
Not crowded of course because it's a museum but full of historical pieces and a surprising view from on top of the cannon. Only 10 Reis but no one checked my ticket but with military presence all around not sure if I'd risk it.

It’s a cool place to watch surfers and relax. I went on a Monday and it was very quiet, not many “barraquinhas”. Water has a green tone to it.
Lilia F — Google review
Fantastic beach! Lots of kiosks and beach vendors with corn on the cob, pamonha, mate (tea), water, sunglasses, beach balls and toys for the kids, and everything you could want from a beach. Great waves, too, if you like that. We have great beaches in Florida, but zero waves, so that makes this beach (along with many others in Rio) a worthwhile attraction.
Felipe F — Google review
Nice beaches but the waters have been choppy. Clean and lots of space uncrowded. If you stay at the Grand Hyatt it's like having a beach all to yourself. Much more subdued and laid-back. Check out the big lizards that hang along the grassy bluffs overlooking the beach. Very friendly

Very veru beautiful beach and sea. The water so clear. And the atmosphere there so calm and nice with the surrounding there.
Tonmai_KSR — Google review
Great food, great service, great waves. Just a perfect beach in the middle of a great neighborhood. A lot to do around and service from people offering beach seats is amazing and cheap. You can ask for drinks and food and everything will be brought to you by the guys who you rented the beach cheat to. Absolutely recommended.

Praia da Macumba, also known as Pontal de Sernambetiba beach, is a popular spot with kiosks and vendors offering a variety of amenities. The beach features calmer waters near the rocks, making it suitable for surfing and longboarding. Its fine, light sand makes it perfect for activities like beach volleyball or simply relaxing. On car-free Sundays, the area becomes a pleasant leisure space.
Perfect place for surf and beach. Great view, people and places to have something fresh
Sofia L — Google review
Beautiful beach. However, it can have really strong currents and large waves. I would not recommend visiting on weekends because it is a popular destination for bus trips from the poorer suburbs of the city. It gets extremely busy at these times and swimming isn't recommend unless you like swimming in sewage and litter.

Guanabara Beach is a beautiful place for walks and sports, despite not always meeting recommended balneability standards. The beaches along Guanabara Bay, such as the edge of the Landfill, Flamengo Beach, and Botafogo Cove, are surrounded by lush greenery and offer stunning views of Sugar Loaf from various angles. While some visitors express disappointment with water quality for diving, others appreciate its historical charm and bucolic beauty.
