Christ the Redeemer is a colossal 30-meter-tall statue of Jesus Christ, situated on top of Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro. This iconic monument, recognized as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city. The statue, with its outstretched arms, is made of concrete and adorned with soapstone mosaic tiles. It serves as a religious and cultural symbol for the warm and welcoming Brazilian people.
Absolutely stunning. From the tram to the top, walking up the rest of the way and enjoying the incredible views at the top. Yes it is very busy and it probably will be all day every day, so just be prepared! It is still well worth the trip. Everything about it was so much fun. Be prepared to lie down on the floor to get good photos!! You also get to see monkeys, helicopters, paragliders and much more. Also the ice cream is delicious at the top. Obviously everything is well over priced whilst up there!

Visiting Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro is one of those magical experiences that touch your heart. The moment you see the statue standing high above the city, surrounded by clouds and sunlight, it feels truly special. The view from the top of Corcovado is breathtaking the ocean, the mountains, and the city below all blend into one stunning panorama. There’s something peaceful and spiritual about being up there. Even with many visitors around, you can still feel a deep sense of calm and awe. The train ride through the lush forest adds to the experience, making the journey as beautiful as the destination. It’s a place that makes you feel grateful, inspired, and connected to nature, to faith, and to life itself. An absolute must-visit when in Rio.

Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Redentor) is an iconic statue of Jesus Christ located atop Mount Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This colossal Art Deco statue stands 98 feet tall, with arms outstretched spanning 92 feet, making it one of the largest statues of Jesus in the world and a symbol both of Rio and Brazil. The idea for the statue was first proposed in the 1850s but was only realized starting in 1922, with construction completed in 1931. Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa designed the statue, with sculptor Paul Landowski creating the statue’s detailed features. The statue is constructed of reinforced concrete and clad in durable soapstone, chosen for its ability to withstand the elements.Christ the Redeemer was built by the Catholic Church and local supporters to symbolize peace and welcome, standing prominently on Corcovado Mountain so it is visible from across Rio. Over the years, it has become a global cultural landmark and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The site includes panoramic views of Rio’s cityscape, beaches, and surrounding mountains. It also has facilities such as an elevator and motorized stairs for accessibility.Visitors appreciate not only the religious and cultural significance of the statue but also the stunning views and the impressive engineering feat behind its design and preservation. It represents a unifying symbol with spiritual, historical, and architectural importance in Brazil.Christ the Redeemer continues to undergo maintenance and preservation efforts to protect its structure, ensuring it can be enjoyed by generations to come

A fullfilment of one of my traveling dreams was to visit the statue and admire the views over the city. Might be crowded from time to time but with some spare time you'll get to experience everything easily with one visit. Pre-purchased tickets recommended and can be changed for instance due to weather conditions.
Juho Ä — Google review
It’s unthinkable to visit Rio without getting up close to this iconic statue. Access via the inclined tramway, a few steps and an escalator is easy. It was very misty when I visited and so not too crowded. Thankfully the mist lifted enough to see this beautiful statue, although views of the city remained really limited. The little chapel built into the rear of the statue was a pleasant surprise. I can’t begin to imagine how crowded it must get on a clear day, but you must visit.
David S — Google review
There’s literally nothing to say about this attraction other than wow. The feeling you get seeing something in person after seeing it so many times on TV is amazing. I’m surprised how organised they are. They have lift an escalators on top of the mountain. They are plenty of shops and food court. They do daily shows like Samba dancing.
Mohammed M — Google review
It's worth it. Visiting what's Rio famous for. You can see Rio from the top. The journey to the top was amazing, great views and weather. It's bigger than I thought. Sometimes it's crowded and sometimes you can take photos or ask someone to take it for you. Beautiful memories. Go early and book online there is a website for the train and tickets flr the Redeemer on site. When you arrive There will be a short line and a gift store.

You can't visit Rio without visiting Christo. It's way up in the national park but visits are well organised and comfortable to all, including those with mobility issues! And the views are spectacular too!

Sugarloaf Mountain, a 396m-tall peak on a peninsula with sweeping views and accessible by cableway, is one of the most iconic rocks in the world. It offers breathtaking views of Rio de Janeiro from its peak and is accessible by a thrilling glass-walled cable car journey. Additionally, visitors can enjoy an Instagram-worthy breakfast at Parque Gloria Maria with views of Guanabara Bay and Sugarloaf Mountain.
Sugarloaf Mountain (Pão de Açúcar) offers one of the most spectacular views in Rio de Janeiro! The cable car ride to the top is smooth and exciting, revealing stunning panoramas of the city, Copacabana beach, and the Christ the Redeemer statue in the distance. At sunset, the view is absolutely magical. The mountain itself is a natural wonder, perfect for photos and unforgettable memories. Whether you’re a nature lover or sightseeing adventurer, this is a must-visit landmark in Brazil. Highly recommended!
Arto L — Google review
The most spectacular place in Rio, highly recommended. Sugar Loaf Mountain has a 360-degree view, unlike Corcovado with a limited viewpoint. Sugar Loaf offers a 360-degree view. You can see the Santos Dumont Intl. Airport and runway, the bridge to Niteroi, the beaches and neighborhoods of Ipanema, Copacabana, Botafogo, Leme and Flamengo. Your photos with such a background will be excellent. There is a cafe at the top where you can see the magnificent Copacabana.
Dimo — Google review
One of the places you must visit as a tourist in Rio. The journey to the peak is in two stages, both via cable cars. The queues move quickly and the journeys are smooth. Preferential access is available for wheelchair users. The primary reason for visiting is the views, although my visit was on a very misty day and opportunities were limited. There are plenty of toilets and places for refreshments. Also upmarket souvenir stalls. Still worth visiting on a misty day!
David S — Google review
Very good attraction. It gets really busy so be prepared to be pushing and shoving. Everybody is trying to get the best spot to record the videos. They do have nice foods and souvenir shop on top of the mountain. There is always entertainment going on like live music.
Mohammed M — Google review
Sugarloaf in Rio offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city, beaches, and mountains, absolutely worth the visit. The cable car ride is smooth and scenic. It can get very crowded, especially during peak hours, so try to go early or on a weekday. There are a few shops and places to grab a snack at the top, but prices are a bit high. Still, the overall experience is unforgettable and a must-do while in Rio!
Russo G — Google review
We came here early to avoid the long line. A glass cable car carried us to the top of iconic Sugar Loaf Mountain, actually expect to ride second cable car to real mountain top, which is a symbol of the city, in ideal conditions, I supposed to see the stunning panorama of the beaches, Corcovado Mountain, downtown Rio, and Guanabara Bay, etc. actually what you can see is by chance, the mist of cloud always come across to make you wonder, and it's hard to take a good picture of the stunning panoramic view of bay. There are squirrel-like primates called marmosets which can be spotted near the cable car stations and trails on the mountain , a species native to eastern Brazil. The tourists are discouraged to feed them.
Zemin H — Google review
Beautiful! It’s a stop you cannot miss in Rio. I loved it!
Carolina.H — Google review
The cable cars for the sugarloaf start from the Parque bondinho spot. There is a stopover at another mountain before you reach here. I recommend the place for stunning views of the city. You can also see the Cristo far away. On a nice and sunny day,Pão de Azuçar is the best choice. The name of the mountain comes from the Portuguese who used to get Sugar being shipped in containers which looked similar in shape of the mountains. This was narrated by our guide and not sure about the authenticity.

Arpoador Beach, nestled between Ipanema and Copacabana beaches in Rio's Zona Sul, is a beloved destination for both locals and visitors. During the day, it's a hotspot for surfers seeking consistent waves amidst towering cliffs. As the sun sets, Arpoador becomes a magnet for those eager to witness its breathtaking sunset views over the ocean, with Dois Irmaos peaks providing a stunning backdrop.
Praia do Arpoador is a unique beach with amazing views in Rio de Janeiro. The beach itself borders the famous Leblon beach, which is considered one of the safest places in the famous Rio de Janeiro. Right next to the beach itself is the famous Pedra do Arpoador lookout point from where we can also enjoy the amazing views, as well as the waves crashing on the rocks there. The beach itself is very narrow, but its shape and the views in the background are electrifyingly impressive. Definitely a place worth recommending.

Fantastic views, location, and service! The room was good size, modern, clean, and our balcony had a hammock which I enjoyed. Breakfast was included and amazing every day. The front desk staff was super helpful and spoke English. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

A beautiful place to take photos and videos and to chill in the sun. You can also find a lot of activities like an improvised beach gym, surfing, table tennis and others
Iulia U — Google review
Go up the rocks and enjoy another great view of Rio. You can see the beaches of Arpoador, Ipanema and Leblon on your right and maybe you can get a quick view of the Christ statue if you look behind the buildings. If you are there, just wait until the sunset, and enjoy the view.

Ipanema Beach is a renowned stretch of coastline in Rio de Janeiro, famous for sunbathing and sports like soccer and volleyball. It is located south of Copacabana Beach, separated by the Copacabana Fort. Nearby attractions include Dentro Beach and Diabo Beach.
Cannot recommend this beach enough, it has a cool, laid back vibe and the sand is white with a deep blue sea. As the sun is setting the music begins to blare and the beach area and promenade come alive. Absolutely worth a visit to soak in the charm of Rio.
Kara H — Google review
Great beach stunning views of the mountains. Come with a group that preferably speaks Portuguese, people come up to you constantly trying to sell things and also ask for selfies. Beautiful people and great water, but with only two people it did feel very vulnerable.
Zachary F — Google review
The beach is spectacular and really good for people watching and sunbathing. It is never boring to stroll along the beach and notice all the happenings. Plenty of vendors to dine and entertain.
John Y — Google review
Beautiful beach to walk all the way through, got the opportunity to see the sunset here and it was stunning. They have exercise stations and a beach gym to get a nice workout
Santiago D — Google review
Probably the most beautiful beach in Rio, much better than Copacabana due to the view. There are vendors and people who rent umbrellas and such, but they were never too pushy like some people say. Overall a very chill vibe. I recommend buying the street corner as a snack, it’s very good!
Nick R — Google review
Amazing beach, but NEVER buy anything from the walking sellers. I paied 1000$ for one caipirinha😢 They hacked the paymemt terminal , even applepay doesn’ help. So be careful
Martin D — Google review
Ipanema Beach is absolutely stunning! The golden sand, turquoise waters, and breathtaking view of the Dois Irmãos mountains make it one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The atmosphere is lively, with beach vendors, music, and people playing footvolley. The sunset here is unforgettable! It's a great spot to relax, but also perfect if you're looking for a more social beach experience. Just be mindful of your belongings, as petty theft can be an issue. Overall, a must-visit when in Rio! 🌊☀️🏖️

The beach itself is lovely but the beach vendor paraiso tropical 96 ruined the day. If you go to the beach avoid Paraiso Tropical 96!!!!!!Completely over charged us. €141 (850 Brazil Real) for two chairs, an umbrella and two waters.

Pedra da Gávea is a colossal 2,769-foot stone mountain located on the coast, making it the largest coastal monolith in Brazil. Situated in Tijuca National Park, this imposing landmark offers breathtaking panoramic views of Rio de Janeiro.
The most amazing hike in Rio and one of the best hikes we’ve ever done. It’s a difficult hike and you should definitely get a guide unless you’re an experienced climber and have your own equipment. All the effort is worth it. The views are unique and you can see monkeys and beautiful wild birds on the way. We booked through Airbnb Experiences. Try to choose a sunny day.
Lukas A — Google review
December 2024 (Booked hike though tripadvisor / Rodrigo Indio Tours) Stand out experience of 16 days in Rio - highly recommended if you want to get away into the peace of Tijuca forest, challenge yourself a bit and get the most rewarding view - with plenty of photo opportunity. The hike is uphill via steps, forest path and minor scrambles via natural and man made hand-holds. It's moderately challenging and there is a small climb just before the summit - with a view next to none in the area. I was glad for good shoes + backpack and lots of water+snacks. Rodrigo was an excellent guide adding context to the encounters with flora and fauna, we saw jackfruit trees, monkeys etc. What was more impressive was his ability to gently encourage members of our group and create a safe space for continuing onwards even if it felt challenging to them. He shared how to tackle some of the trickier bits and we all cheered on each other in the end as we made it though the various stages of the climb up and ended up an awesome experience richer - with photos kindly provided by Rodrigo to tell the story. I've done a bit of solo hiking in Tijuca but for this one I was really happy to have Rodrigo along as I felt more relaxed and able to enjoy the forest, hike and views. - it wouldn't have been the same without him. Book this if you're in Rio and remotely interested in walking, forest and great views.

One of the most amazing places I’ve ever visited!!!! There is climbing part was very interesting to me and when you reach the top, it’s a totally different story, totally worth it 😍🇧🇷❤️❤️ Most visit in Rio 🤩
Rokia H — Google review
Most beautiful hike you can do in Rio! We were really confused whether we needed a guide or not, let me tell you, you don’t (speaking as a European)! Here’s how we did it: - you can get an uber there and back - the hike is continuous ascending - there is 1 part where there are some guys that help you to get up/down a steep rock path. I asked, they are there every day (except when it rains)! The price for gringos was 80BRL up&down or 50BRL only down. For Brazilians I heard them say 30BRL up and 30BRL down. They’re super friendly and give you the harness and equipment! - next to this part, you can also boulder up. If you’re unhandy, might not be the best idea. But if you’re like us used to climb a bit of rocks every now and then, it’s easy! Only downside for us was that there were occupied by guides with groups and the queue was long. - the views are beautiful! - the park only opens at 8am - We saw tours where you could really climb and ascend via the rocks, this looked really cool! We might do that next!
Anna E — Google review
Very challenging hike but absolutely worth it. The total hike took us around 6h (including breaks). The first 2.5h is a beautiful path with only a few steep parts. Once you almost teach the top a big cliff wall is waiting. It is possible (but dangerous) to go up alone. We were lucky and some tour guides with ropes were waiting and took us up (and down) for around 10$ per person. Once you are up there is another 20 min hike with some sketchy parts waiting. The view from the top is absolutely worth it. When going down we had to wait to use the ropes because it was quite busy. Make sure to bring sunscreen, water and snacks 👍🏻
Leo N — Google review
Great views if it’s a sunny day otherwise you can’t see anything through the clouds. Easy hike. Just don’t rely on Uber to get home. There’s no cell service at trail head we almost got stuck there as it’s a long walk back to town to catch a cab.
Danny G — Google review
On of my best hikes so far, if you looks for a full day with amazing views and breathtaking moments then you must go for a hike to Pedra da Gavea. I recommend to go with a guide, as it’s NOT so easy to go Alone as it’s not for beginners. Our guide knew all the secrets and he have his robes to help you with some parts of the hike. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it and I’ll definitely come back for more breathtaking moments.
Nader E — Google review
Rio is chalk full of incredible views, but there is not a single one better than the top of Da Gavea. One of the best views to be had in the entire world tbh. The hike up isn’t easy and a guide is 100% recommended, if not required. Truly an epic and bucket list experience! @nothin_but_views

Pedra Bonita, located in Tijuca National Park near the Atlantic Coast, offers a stunning hiking trail and hang-gliding port with panoramic views. The 696-meter peak provides breathtaking landscapes of Tijuca Forest National Park, Pedra da Gavea, Sao Conrado and Barra beaches. Visitors can explore the biodiverse wonderland with natural gems like Gruta do Inferno cave and Cascatinha Waterfall.
Sooooo beautiful! A free hike to the top with an incredible view. You’re able to take an Uber or taxi to the top if you don’t want to hike much. If you take your car it’s only a $2 dollar parking. From the furthest parking spot it’s about a 30 minute sweaty hike up. It’s so worth it and the view is as great or better than the view from sugarloaf. But I recommend bringing bug spray. The mosquitoes there are very thirsty, haha. There’s also an opportunity for just $160 dollars to go hang gliding but there’s a weight limit of about 90-100 kilos depending on the wind that day. It includes a video, pictures and the ride to the top. I did it and it was an amazing experience.
Peter M — Google review
Would absolutely recommend the Pedra Bonita hike to anyone visiting Rio. The views are astounding - a short and relatively easy hike for a huge gain. There’s a cafe/bar with wifi at the start/finish too.

Breathtaking! Stunning! Muito legal!! This place is truly amazing. Also it's a very easy hike to great views of pedra da gavea and all of Rio West and East! You can also walk up the parking lot past the trail entrance to a bar and the runway for the hang gliders! 😍😍 Recommend for families who want an amazing view of mother nature! You can take an Uber or taxi to the entrance and walk up the very steep driveway, but once at the trail it's fairly quick and simple.
Henry M — Google review
Beautiful view and easy hike. Two tips— 1. Check the weather forecast before you go. Cloud can make you lose the view 2. If going by Uber, be aware that you have to hike up from the bend in the road and can’t go the whole way to the parking lot in the car. You also will not have cell service at the drop off point and will have to walking about 5 minutes down hill to get service to call a ride back to town.
A L — Google review
An absolute must if you are in the area. After nice hike up the mountain you are greeted by some of the most amazing views you will see in Brazil. I expected it to be nice, but it far exceeded those expectations and pictures do not do it justice. We spent a nice bit of time at top just taking in the views before hiking back down the mountain. Make sure to have water for this experience.

Trilha Pedra do Telégrafo, located in the western part of Rio de Janeiro, is a popular trekking spot offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city's coastline. The 40-50 minute hike through the jungle to reach the rock is quite challenging and requires a good level of physical fitness. Once at the top, visitors are rewarded with mesmerizing views. While there may be some waiting time for photo opportunities, it's recommended to bring water and snacks for the journey.
Stunning views and a great trip out. The bus was about 45 minutes from rio and the climb quite a bit steaper and longer than expected so take plenty of water and prepare for fun a hike!!!

It’s so worthy that you hike for around 1h30 to get this amazing view and spot for good pictures

Very beautiful place. Easy trail but one hour of uphill and rocky road and sandy foot path. Fantastic view up the top and worth the photos!!! Acai ice cream was available to buy during afternoon.. Maybe depend during some days.

Extremely long waits for the ledge photo. I went on a Wednesday and reached the top at about 11 AM. waited about two hours to take the ledge photo. Hike is short and starts across the Guaratiba beach. Take the stairs next to the Guaratiba seafood restaurant up into town and you’ll then start seeing signs for the trail. Amazing views, just be prepared for a very long wait. Professional photographer which charges R $5 per photo but it’s optional.

Don't go if a picture at Telegrafo rock isn't an absolutely must for you. Be ready to wait for two hours, even if the line doesn't look long. We reached the top at 8:30 on Tuesday, and there were only six people in front of us. Still, we waited for two hours because some couples were extremely slow and took a million pictures. The "professional photographer" who works at the viewpoint kept offering to take their photos from dozens of angles. If a picture on the hanging rock isn't at the top of your bucket list, skip this trail and choose another one, like Pedra Bonita. The trail itself is a bit dull - we didn't see any wildlife.
Оля T — Google review
Our guide takes us there at 5 am we were the first later there are lines even 2 hours to take a picture. There is a photographer on site who charges 5 REL for a professional picture (if you want)

Not a well marked trail, you need to read instructions before going. It is not too long, but very steep. The is a photographer who will take your photo on the famous hanging rock for R$5.

I was staying at a hotel near Copacabana beach and I wanted to hike to Telegraph rock so the hotel connected me to Raphael Salles and Jorge. It was by far the best of the five days that I spent in Rio. I went with three other women (two that don’t hike) and he was patient with each of us. He picked us up at the hotel in a jeep and transported us to some bikers (who were awesome) who took us to the start of the trail where we hiked about 1.3 miles to the rock. The hike was fantastic and we ended up at Telegraph rock where the photographer took amazing photos. On the way back to our hotel he stopped at a restaurant on the beach where we had the best lunch. I strongly suggest that if you want a memorable day in Rio that you find Raphael. I will even make it easy for by adding a picture that has his contact information

Copacabana Beach is an iconic 2.2-mile stretch of sandy coastline with a bustling promenade, food kiosks, and hotels. The beach extends for about 4km and offers a lively atmosphere with soccer players, locals, and tourists enjoying caipirinhas at the kiosks. Visitors can also witness kids showcasing their soccer skills and beach vendors selling various items. It's recommended to check the water quality before swimming due to occasional contamination after heavy rainfall.
Copacabana Beach is iconic! Stunning views, soft sand, and lively atmosphere make it a must-visit. Great for a swim, relaxing, or enjoying local street food. Vendors are friendly, and the vibe is electric, especially at sunset. Safe if you stay aware. An unforgettable Rio experience!
Zachery D — Google review
By far the best beach in the refion. It's lively both at day and night. Free showers are also up for grabs and there are several spots where you can rent an umbrella and/or chairs for a fair price.
Filip M — Google review
The beach is beautiful. It was a bit wavy given I visited in the end of September and the water was a bit cold but it was really enjoyable and refreshing on hot days. There are many retailers that occasionally can try hard to sell whatever they have. It should also be known that this is not the safest place to be. One has to be very careful with his belongings and where to sit to avoid

Sept.25: We went to the famous Copacabana Beach. We taught it would be crowded as it was weekend, however this wasn't the case. There were a lot of local vendors selling all kinds of stuff & many different food, icecreams & drinks. Some brought a complete umbrella with bikinis & thongs as well as really nice looking grilled big scampis (we didn't try as we didn't know how long they were exposed to sun, etc.) & many more. As we need to get the Copacabana beach vipe, we bought a 700ML freshly pressed lime caipirinha. Delicious, but with the sun & almost on an empty stomach; I got hit very fast. In the far we saw Christ the Redeemer (big, famous Jezus statue of 30 m height on a hill), we hope to visit one of these days.

Here's a good review of Copacabana beach: Copacabana is more than just a beach; it's the vibrant, beating heart of Rio de Janeiro. The moment you step onto its famous wave-patterned promenade, you feel an electric energy. The 4km stretch of sand is a democratic playground for everyone—you'll see intense games of footvolley, locals sunbathing, and tourists sipping água de coco from the countless kiosks. The view is spectacular, with the curving bay framed by Sugarloaf Mountain on one end. It’s a must-see for its sheer iconic status and incredible people-watching, capturing the city's lively spirit perfectly.

One of the famous beaches in the world was worth visiting. A fairly clean that has many things to offer - from food stalls to watching people play volleyball, soccer and other games, enjoying a nice drink, snacks and food. A good place to get your morning or afternoon walk/run as well. A safe place compared to some parts of Rio. From good to excellent hotels across the beach.

Loved this beach, it is great for long walks, it’s clean enough, it’s possible to see a beautiful sunset there. Really liked the fact that it was possible to pay by card for sunbeds, umbrellas and drinks. It’s often very busy there and I loved that vibe.

This is a wonderful park dedicated to iconic Brazilian journalist Gloria Maria. The actual building within the park accentuates celebrated Brazilian art and the park and building ruins offer magnificent vistas of Rio. Within the park is a charming outdoor cafe and the washrooms within the grounds are well maintained. This attraction is well worth a visit when in the Santa Teresa district of Rio particularly on a sunny day.

Parque das Ruínas is one of my favorite spots in Santa Teresa, the artsy, bohemian heart of Rio. The mix of modern structures built into the old, crumbling mansion walls gives the place so much character. Climbing to the top is a must—the panoramic view over Rio is incredible, with clear sights of Pão de Açúcar and Cristo Redentor standing out beautifully. I also loved the art exhibition in the basement, which added an unexpected cultural touch. And, if you need a break, there’s a cozy outdoor café perfect for a coffee. It’s a place that feels special and is definitely worth a visit!

A hidden gem with stunning view of sugar loaf. Unfortunately it was being refurbished when we visited so most areas were closed to the public, but I've been before and recommend walking around the ruin and going all the way to the top for an amazing 360 panoramic view. There are also various musical events on regularly in the cultural centre (within the ruins), check schedule to time your visit and get something extra.

Tijuca National Park, located in Rio de Janeiro, is a remarkable urban rainforest offering a variety of activities for nature enthusiasts. Spanning 9,600 acres within the Atlantic Forest, it boasts diverse terrains, waterfalls, caves and an abundance of wildlife. The park attracts over 3 million visitors annually who come to explore its numerous hiking trails and enjoy birdwatching while taking in breathtaking vistas of Rio's iconic landmarks.
We barely did any research. We took an Uber for $15 USD from Copacabana. Got dropped off at the visitor's center. There was no entrance fee. A lot of easy trail. Got to see two waterfalls. There was no signal for our phones but we didn't get lost. We got to see monkeys. And other animals. It was nice to get away from the city stress and traffic. I would recommend this place if you love nature, walking around and explore, and get away from the city.

Such an amazing place. From the tram station ride to the mountain top to the steps up the cliffside. The views are incredible and on a clear day like today you can see for hundreds of miles. Jutting out from the ocean you can see the sugarloafs and landscapes. Take your time and spend the day there. Have lunch or a snack be sure to bring water and hydrate and just enjoy. I shot these arial pictures and videos with a dji mini pro 3 drone. You can see full edits on my YouTube channel. I hope you can feel the breathtaking images.

If your intention is to have a good sports day away from the beach, this is a great alternative. There are many different hiking trails here from the very easy to much more complex ones and even a trail for the seeing impaired!!! 👀 we went with a guide, a tour that ended up being very interesting. But there were many groups of people that were just in groups doing their own thing , so I don't necessarily think you have to have a guide. There's a cup of nice waterfalls , not all of them you can bathe in , but the one that we visited for swimming was more of a shower than actual swimming pond! Good place to also escape the heat of the city.Even though we were told by our guide that when it's very hot outside , it gets double hot sauna style in there. Unfortunately, for us, we did not get to see many animals. We heard lots of birds that we did not see and we saw some monkeys. But I was hoping to see much more. And unfortunately when we went that was not the case. As far as what you should wear while you're there , we were in sneakers and t shirt and shorts. We did see some people wearing tall hiking boots and walking sticks. The bathrooms in the park itself are free. But there are trails that have a cafe with bathrooms but they charge almost 4 reals .. You are discouraged at all times of feeding the animals however I did see some locals giving bananas to the monkeys.

A unique experience at Tijuca National Park with our guide Erik from Get Your Guide. He was incredibly friendly, informative, and encouraged us to fully enjoy the caves and trails. The hike through the jungle was absolutely worth it—beautiful views, rich nature, and even some wildlife sightings.
Varak K — Google review
Tijuca National Park is a breathtaking escape in the heart of Rio de Janeiro and stands as one of the world’s largest urban rainforests. Visiting here is pure magic—expect to be wowed by dense canopies, hidden waterfalls, birdsong, and panoramic vistas of the city below. My visit was an unforgettable blend of adventure, tranquility, and discovery. Highlights and Experience From the very start at the park gates, you’re welcomed by the sounds and sights of the Atlantic Forest: the rustle of leaves, the chattering of capuchin monkeys, and the misty spray of waterfalls like Taunay. Don’t miss iconic landmarks such as the Chinese Pavilion, Mayrink Chapel, and, higher up, views from Pico da Tijuca—the park’s highest peak. For thrill-seekers, activities range from hiking and mountain biking to rapelling and guided eco-tours. Picnic spots and scenic lookouts make this an excellent day for families, nature-lovers, or photographers seeking unique wildlife shots. The park is steeped in conservation history, from 1800s coffee plantations to modern rewilding efforts, which lend a fascinating backdrop to every trail. Best Time to Visit Season Months Conditions & Tips Dry Season May–Sept Best for hiking, clear views, cooler temperatures, least rainfall Spring Sept–Nov Lush blooms, mild weather, quieter trails Summer Dec–Mar Dense foliage, long days, some humidity, park is busier Rainy Season Dec–Mar (peaks Jan–Mar) Trails may be slippery, waterfalls fuller, flash floods possible Early morning arrivals are recommended for cooler temperatures, active wildlife, and fewer crowds. Weekdays are less busy; avoid Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays if possible for a more peaceful experience. Do’s and Don’ts Do’s Wear proper footwear: Sturdy hiking shoes are essential—trails can be rugged, and flip-flops are unsafe. Pack sun and insect protection: Hats, sunscreen, and repellent are musts. Bring water and snacks: Few shops exist inside the park, so come prepared. Respect wildlife: Watch, photograph from a distance, never feed or approach animals. Use official trails: Stay on marked paths to prevent erosion and preserve the forest. Start early: Enjoy wildlife at their most active and avoid midday heat. Check weather before visiting: Trails can be dangerous in rain or fog. Hire a certified guide: Especially useful for new visitors or those seeking in-depth knowledge of flora and fauna. Visit the visitor center: For information, trail maps, and park history. Don’ts Don’t litter: Pack out what you bring—it’s a conservation area. Don’t make loud noises or play music: It disturbs both wildlife and fellow visitors. Do not exit trails or take shortcuts: This can cause damage to sensitive habitats. Do not feed or get too close to animals: Some may bite, and it disrupts their natural behavior. Avoid the park after sunset: There’s no lighting, and getting lost is dangerous. Don’t swim in unmarked waters: Only use designated areas for waterfall baths for your safety. Do not wear camouflage clothing: It can cause misunderstandings with authorities and is discouraged. Final Thoughts Tijuca National Park is a rare urban treasure—a living, breathing rainforest with rich biodiversity just minutes from city hustle. Whether you’re hiking to summit views, exploring waterfalls, or simply immersing yourself in birdsong and leafy tranquility, this park offers something for everyone. Respect the park’s rules and rhythms, and you’ll enjoy a safe, memorable adventure in one of Rio’s proudest jewels. Highly recommended—don’t miss it!

Incredible view of Rio below. We went on a day that was (sadly) a bit overcast and it was difficult to see all the sights well, although a large sign is posted with an image of how the different landmarks can be seen and identified from this spot. The pavilion is quite beautiful and with a roof that shines in the sun like brass or copper. You can drive up, but we saw many people walking or biking up the steep and winding roads, the trails look awesome and I wished I had budgeted time to hike through some of the dense trees and foliage there in the Tijuca park. I'm sure you will want to do standard hiking prep of good shoes and lots of insect repellent. The view from both Vista Chinesa and from the Emperors table are well worth the time and trouble to get there, spectacular.

The trail up in well trodden but quite steep in places. I took a moto taxi to the Museum of the City of Rio’s History and walked from there. Took about 45mins. Not really a spot for the sunset because the sun goes down behind you (in June) so you get some nice colour behind Pão de Açúcar and o Rendentor. Way down is fun in the dark, take a torch.

There are some gorgeous trails and viewpoints all along the road and this is one of them. Take about half a day to go around all of them, you can spend more time if you want to do the many trails available. The forest area and greenery are worth visiting and the security staff at the gates are very helpful. Keep some water with you as it can get hot and humid in the trail areas depending on when you go. It is also great for biking if you are up for it. There are no rentals available at the spot, so you will have to arrange for these beforehand elsewhere.

As you hike, you will be rewarded with the beauty of the Atlantic forest. Follow the signs for trail, it can be confusing at times but you can figure out the trail easily. The hike is tough in spots, wear good hiking shoes. At Vista Chinesa you will be rewarded with fantastic views of Rio, Cristo Redentor, the beeches and Pao de Acucar.

An easy Uber up to the top but so busy at the top. Got great views of Christ, Copacabana and sugar loaf mountain. Beautiful lookout point with absolutely stunning views! It’s free to access, though it can get pretty crowded, especially around sunset. When we went, the tourist police were there which made it feel safe—just a heads up that sometimes people may try to charge you if they’re not around. Definitely worth a visit for the views!

Beautiful view. My husband and I took an Uber up for sunset, even though the sunset wasn't great we still had a fun time . That is, until we tried to get an uber down. Very poor signal up top and ubers kept canceling on us. We ended up having to walk down (and even ran some of the time) we finally were able to get an uber at the bottom. It was a scary experience seeing that Rio isn't the safest place, but we made it ok and tipped our uber driver very well. We were so happy to see him lol. I highly recommend checking this place out, just make sure you have a ride back down ahead of time.

Mirante Dona Marta in Rio de Janeiro is a must-visit for breathtaking views of the city, especially at sunrise and sunset. Perched at 362 meters above sea level, this viewpoint offers panoramic scenes of iconic landmarks like Sugarloaf Mountain, Christ the Redeemer, and the sprawling beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema. At sunrise, typically around 5:30 AM, the sky is painted in soft hues of pink and gold, casting a gentle glow over the city as it wakes up. The tranquil atmosphere is perfect for capturing the serene beauty of Rio in its quietest moments. As the day ends, the sunset at Mirante Dona Marta, usually around 5:45 PM, is nothing short of spectacular. The vibrant colors—ranging from deep oranges to fiery reds—create a dramatic contrast against the darkening silhouette of the city. Watching the sun dip behind the mountains and seeing the lights of Rio begin to twinkle is a magical experience that encapsulates the city's unique charm. Whether you’re a photographer or just a lover of natural beauty, Mirante Dona Marta is an unforgettable spot to witness the wonders of Rio’s skyline.

Confeitaria Colombo is a historic café-restaurant located in downtown Rio, offering a glimpse into the city's 'golden age.' The elegant setting features ornate chandeliers and jacaranda wood mirrors, creating an opulent atmosphere for breakfasts, brunches, and afternoon teas. This century-old establishment was once the center of social gatherings and political intrigue during Rio's belle epoque era.

Given the location, it is undoubtedly amazing but the service was disappointing. Very beautiful place, it reeks history, but very full and loud, it doesn't let you enjoy the meal! I recommend you to order only the pastry if not you will wait a lot! The food is 7/10 and desserts 10/10 (the flan is really creamy and delicious)

We chose the restaurant thanks to recommendations, but it was an extremely bad experience for us. Terrible attitude of the staff, catastrophic conditions of seating comfort, broken chairs, a lot of noise, a mess on the floor. Despite repeated requests to clean the table, we had to clean it ourselves. We spent almost an hour of our vacation here waiting for a table. Despite the name order of the guests, the staff let other guests who had passed us in, the staff told us curtly that they had a reservation. We did not see any information about reservations on the tables. They all passed us in several times, despite the fact that we had a reservation card. Very worried, we got up and left, preferring not to ruin our vacation. We do not recommend a visit, it has nothing to do with a gastronomic, relaxing and relaxing experience. Disappointing waste of time.
Peter B — Google review
Overhyped. Looking deeper into what it offers beyond the appearances, it’s nothing worth visiting again in my opinion. Yes, waiters wearing a tie, and the long queue might make you think it will be a special experience for the prices you’ll be charged. Unfortunately not, food is just average, waiters don’t speak much else other than Portuguese, with no awareness of when to serve what’s being ordered. They will deliver the food as soon as it’s ready. So we got the coffee and eclair served before the main dishes. I don’t who eats in this way but that’s what happens if you order everything at the same time in this place. The worst part is that the food is not even freshly prepared. For example, the beirut pita sandwich with fillet mignon, eggs and salad is reheated. The result is a bland and soggy sandwich…disappointing. The eclair was not fresh either. The only things we found to be good were the carpaccio and the coffee. Before paying they’ll parade a basket full of sweets and chocolate in the hope they’ll get you to buy more stuff And when you’re finally about to step out, you’ll be asked for 60r$ for a printed photograph..yeah, that trick they pull off at the beginning once you got past the queue. I don’t know what makes them think this is what makes clients enjoy their time in this place.

Bodies of Water
Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, often simply referred to as Lagoa, is a stunning seawater lagoon nestled in the heart of Rio de Janeiro. This picturesque spot gained international attention during the 2016 Olympics when it hosted various rowing and canoeing events. Surrounded by majestic mountains, the lagoon offers a serene escape from city life, making it a favorite among locals seeking tranquility amidst urban chaos. A scenic 7.
Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas is such a peaceful and beautiful spot in Rio, perfect for a relaxing day out. The lagoon is surrounded by stunning views of the mountains, including Christ the Redeemer in the distance, and it’s a great place for walking, cycling, or just sitting by the water. One of the highlights of my visit was spotting a capybara hanging out by the lagoon—it was such a fun and unexpected moment! The area feels very close to nature, even though it’s right in the city. Whether you’re looking for a quiet escape or a scenic place to exercise, this spot is definitely worth checking out.

What a fabulous place with more amazing views of different aspects of the city. For the part we covered (north and east), there were cycle and walking lanes following the shoreline of the lagoon. Every now and then I couldn’t resist stopping to capture the landscape/cityscapes unfolding before my eyes.

One of my favourite places to relax and chill. Can get a bit crowded on public holidays or weekends. Great circuit for running or casual cycling with stunning views.

Great for a stroll, jog, or bike ride with some different views of the area all the way around. There’s even a little dock along the path that’s perfect for a selfie.
Brandon B — Google review
The lagoon is massive & spills out to the Atlantic Ocean via a small canal running through the city. This is the same lagoon the media heralded as overly polluted prior to the World Cup and Olympics. This is not the case! It is blue and tranquil.

Morro da Urca, also known as Urca Hill, is a popular hiking destination in Rio de Janeiro. The mountain stands at 722 feet and offers stunning views of the city and the sea. The 2-mile trail takes about 1.5 hours to complete and features beautiful flora and wooden stairs along the way. At around 200 meters above sea level, visitors can enjoy a unique dining experience at the 200 QUOTA restaurant, accessed by cable car.
In my personal opinion, the view from Urca is even more beautiful than Pão de Açúcar (although they're both breathtaking!) I do recommend avoiding the restaurant on Morro, it was overpriced with awful food. Spend your time taking in the gorgeous scenery!

Amazing view of the whole Rio. On a sunny day you can see even Cristo Redentor
Ania P — Google review
The Morro da Urca/Pão de Açucar (Sugarloaf) Hike is a great alternative to the cable cars. The Morro da Urca/Sugarloaf (Pão de Açucar) Hike starts at the beautiful idyllic beach, known as Praia Vermelho (the Red Beach). You begin hiking a short paved path along the base of Morro da Urca before you ascend the tree root staircase to the top of Morro da Urca. Along the path up you will have a great chance of seeing the buffy-tufted marmoset or white-eared marmoset. After about half an hour you will reach a mini plateau or saddle which offers you a beautiful view over Botafogo bay and Flamengo. The last 15 minutes take you to the top of Morro da Urca where you will have spectacular views over the entire city of Rio. You will continue our trip with a breath-taking cable car ride to the top of sugarloaf for even more panoramic and picturesque views. You have to buy your tickets before you hike to take advantage of the cable cars. You cannot buy them at the top. End your day with a classic appetizer and beverage on the Urca wall near Bar da Urca, a popular destination for locals taking in the sunset. Hike: Moderate Time: 1.5 hours round trip; 45 minutes with cable car
Ryan S — Google review
Beautiful views when a nice day. There is also a lot of things up on both mountains which I was quite surprised at! It would of been nice to keep it at just the cable car and a viewing platform but I guess it appeals to tourists.

Brazilian restaurant
Aprazível is a charming restaurant nestled high on the Santa Teresa hillside in Rio, offering breathtaking views of downtown Rio and the Guanabara Bay. The rustic terrace is adorned with grass-roofed gazebos surrounded by lush tropical gardens, creating a serene ambiance frequented by toucans and monkeys. Guests can savor artisan Brazilian cuisine made with natural tropical ingredients while enjoying the romantic al-fresco dining experience illuminated by candles and fairy lights at night.
This place was very good. Up in the hills in Rio, with an amazing view/sunset. The vibe is amazing 10/10 and the food is very good 9/10. The tropical fish and the lamb shoulder were very good. We spent a little over 600 BR total for the four dishes.
Dan L — Google review
A friend booked this place for lunch. It was our first time eating Brazilian food, so we didn’t know what to expect. We were extremely satisfied with the food, service and quality. Being surrounded in luscious greenery made the whole experience even more pleasant. Highly recommend locals and especially foreigners giving this place a go.
Dyena M — Google review
If you ever wanted to dine in the clouds of Rio and feel like a travel-executive doing it in style, Aprazível is your spot. High above the city in the bohemian hillside of Santa Tereza, the restaurant opens has great views of rooftops, bay, and that unmistakable Carioca skyline. From the moment you arrive, you get the kind of hospitality that knows how to relax while it impresses. The staff were warm, attentive, and clearly proud of the space, an open-air treehouse-style retreat where you’re dining among the jungle canopy and city lights. It’s elevated casual: timber and stone, ambient lighting, gentle breeze through leaves, and that amazing skyline. The menu showcases Brazilian creativity and flair. Their house-famous açaí guacamole was fresh, unexpected, and rich without being heavy. It’s not your Oaxacan guacamole and that’s okay. The vibe carried on with the main offerings, each one rooted in local flavor but styled for the modern table. Pair that with a caipiroska de maracujá, and you have drink-game and relaxation on point.
Jason H — Google review
Beautiful restaurant with good food in Santa Theresa neighborhood. We walked in and were wowed by how big this place is. The ambience is on point. We were promptly seated and ordered the main course seafood catch of the day and another prawn dish with coconut rice. Both the dishes were fresh and tasted great. We ordered their chocolate dessert and that was amazing! Service was great. Food was good. Ambience was perfect. It is an expensive reataurant. One of the most expensive meals I had during my trip in Rio and I dint feel it was that worth the price hence reduced a star. Overall give it a try!

A must-go if you are in Rio. It’s really not to far from the main beaches, you can easily uber there. Food was delish but you really go there for the view and atmosphere which is just beautiful. They sat us without reservation (which I would not recommend as it’s usually fully booked)
Re C — Google review
This is a magnificent multi-level restaurant in the picturesque Santa Teresa district of Rio. The menu has a great selection of items inspired from different parts of Brazil such as Minas Gerais and Amazonas. There are plenty of vegetarian options. The restaurant also has a nice variety of caipirinhas and other cocktails as well as fresh juices. I had the guacamole acai and burrata and the guava cheesecake. All the items were delicious. The service staff was courteous, efficient and my server spoke some English- the menu was both in Portuguese and English. The ambiance was casual comfortable and cozy. The restrooms were well maintained. There is an elevator available to those with impaired mobility. I highly recommend this restaurant for its exquisite food and drinks and for the spectacular views of Rio from it’s location.

Parque Lage is a charming park located near the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro. The park features wooded trails, English-style gardens with touches of British romanticism, including a Baroque folly and grotto. The centerpiece of the park is an Italianate villa that now houses a visual arts school and a delightful cafe, making it a perfect spot for breakfast or afternoon tea.
I really loved this place as a park. The building that houses the restaurant is seriously impressive and I could snap pictures of it all day. I’d actually like to see if they do a tour and explain the history. The restaurant inside however I wasn’t too impressed with the my food was kinda bad. I don’t regret going, it was a fantastic experience, but the food from street vendors was better. The park was amazing. Tons of extra stuff to see and explore in there
Brandon T — Google review
Parque Lage in Rio felt like a hidden paradise — lush gardens, tall palm trees, and that iconic mansion with the view of Christ the Redeemer rising behind it. I loved wandering the quiet trails and taking photos by the pool. It’s the kind of place where nature, art, and peace beautifully come together.
Esrf G — Google review
Because this place is a major tourist attraction, come prepared to wait in line for a long time in order to get a picture. There is a lack of organization that made it a little difficult but the view of Cristo was incredible. We were told that the food was not the best so we decided to skip eating there but the 2 hour wait for pictures was definitely worth it. There was slight cloud coverage so we had to be patient but once it revealed itself, it was truly a sight to see. Definitely be prepared to stand in line for a least an hour regardless what day you go, and either bring a hat or umbrella and waters (or you can purchase some there) because it gets extremely hot.

Parque Lage is a stunning park nestled within Tijuca National Park, offering a lush tropical forest experience right in the heart of Rio. It features a scenic trail that leads up to Corcovado Mountain and the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue, perfect for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Along the way, you’ll encounter a variety of wildlife, especially birds and playful monkeys like marmosets and capuchins. Peaceful, beautiful, and rich in biodiversity, it’s a must-visit for anyone looking to explore Rio’s natural side.

Parque Lage is a true gem in Rio de Janeiro and an absolute must-visit for anyone seeking a blend of nature, history, and culture in the heart of the city. Nestled at the foot of Corcovado Mountain, this park offers a peaceful escape from the urban bustle, surrounded by lush Atlantic rainforest where you might spot monkeys, toucans, and a variety of exotic plants. The highlight of Parque Lage is its stunning neo-Romanesque mansion, which now houses the Escola de Artes Visuais (School of Visual Arts). The mansion’s elegant architecture, complete with a picturesque courtyard and pool, is a perfect backdrop for photos and often hosts art exhibitions and cultural events. The on-site Plage Café is a fantastic spot to relax with a coffee or breakfast, offering views of the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue in the distance. Wandering through the park, you’ll find beautifully landscaped gardens inspired by European designs, tranquil lakes, charming bridges, and even an enchanting grotto with stalactites and stalagmites. For adventure seekers, Parque Lage is also the starting point for the scenic hiking trail up to Christ the Redeemer, providing a unique perspective of Rio’s natural beauty. Entry is free, making it accessible to everyone. Whether you’re interested in art, photography, a leisurely stroll, or simply soaking in the serene atmosphere, Parque Lage will leave you enchanted. Highly recommended for families, couples, and solo travelers alike-don’t miss this magical corner of Rio de Janeiro.

Morro Dois Irmãos is an iconic rock formation located at the end of a beach in Rio de Janeiro. It offers a variety of activities such as hiking, cycle taxis, and a scenic nature trail. One of the most fascinating experiences you can have in Rio is watching the sunrise from the top of Morro Dois Irmãos. The sunrise tour usually starts at 4:00 am and involves about an hour of hiking through the forest to reach the viewpoint.

Simply the best view in Rio! The journey is challenging - a bus to the base of Vidigal, a mototaxi ride through Vidigal Favela, then a 40 minute hike / climb, sometimes on hands and knees, but you are rewarded with absolutely stunning views. Take sun protection and lots of water! The favela is very safe and we walked back down it (on the return journal) with no issues at all, but the mototaxi is highly advised on the way up as it is a good 30 minute walk.

Nestled in the historic port district of Saude, Pedra do Sal is a vibrant plaza that pulses with life and culture. Known as the birthplace of samba, this lively spot comes alive every Monday and Friday night when locals and visitors gather for spirited Roda do Samba sessions. The atmosphere is electric as musicians take center stage while enthusiastic crowds join in song, all while enjoying refreshing drinks from rustic stands.
An Amazing experience! A spot where samba truly comes to life! The energy is unmatched, with live music and dancing all around—especially on Mondays and Fridays when it gets packed. Great drinks and snacks, but be ready for the crowd. For a quieter experience, visit on a different day. English isn’t widely spoken, so a tour guide is helpful if no guide just dance it away . Keep it simple with a small bag!
Monique C — Google review
It's a pilgrimage. It's an experience, but not a great experience. Expected live samba and instead got 6 million drunk people packed like sardines into a street corner listening to recorded house music you couldn't hear. You are packed so tight you literally cannot move. It was during carnival and people go there to get wasted and hook up. Maybe that's what it's all about - the spectacle of the mass of people. Maybe it's different at other times of the year. Would not waste my time going there again. Find other samba bars in Lapa instead.
Martin M — Google review
I stumbled upon Pedra do Sal by pure chance while looking for a bloco — and it turned out to be something even better. It’s clearly a long-standing local tradition, full of energy and soul, and it even caught the attention of friends who saw my Instagram stories. The combination of live samba, delicious street food, and a vibrant, welcoming crowd made for an unforgettable night in Rio. An absolute must-visit for anyone wanting to experience the city’s true spirit.
Raul R — Google review
Extremely crowded but totally local samba experience. The location is a 5-10min walk away from metro station though would recommend to walk in a group. The place fills up quickly from 8pm onwards to a point where it’s impossible to walk around / dance freely without going “skin to skin” with someone, especially near the performance area. Drinks and foods are dirt cheap here and fun times are definitely guaranteed, with a caveat of you being drunk enough to disregard the sweat, heat and potential piss on the streets. Overall it’s worth a visit for the experience but will not revisit due to the difficulty of navigating through crowds.
Hilary N — Google review
An amazing experience, respectful and fun people. Always felt safe
Natalia M — Google review
Great experience, went there on a Monday, it’s pretty crowded as people say, but not too bad in my opinion. Drinks and beers are cheap, the samba part (8-12PM), was missing the energy, but from 12PM they played more popular hits from around the world, and the energy picked up. Would recommend trying at least once!
Magnus J — Google review
A fun place for a chopi right before sunset, after a long day wandering around the city center.

It is a spot to visit, but be very aware about the drinks sellers at the upstairs spot, they will try to sell everything with prices too high and try to fool you with some tricky offers, don’t buy anything to the guys at there, they’re just scammers

The Station of Santa Teresa trams is a charming and historic tram line that connects Rio's city center with the artistic neighborhood of Santa Teresa. This vintage 32-person tram offers uphill rides, stopping at restaurants and attractions along the way. The journey takes passengers through the hills of Santa Maria, providing views of local neighborhoods, street art, and panoramic city vistas. Although the original tram has been replaced with a newer replica after an accident, it remains a popular mode of transportation for both tourists and locals.
Great experience! Easily accessible! Great for families! Great way to get to Santa Teresa for a meal! Pro: - cheap (20 reais per person. Return included) - lines move faily fast (30 people per tram. Up to 4 trams working at a time) - family friendly - historic and scenic - great way to visit "escadaria selalon" and walk down instead of up Con: - tight fit in tram 10/10 would do it again!

Santa Teresa Tram Bondes Station is the starting point for an old historical Tram in Rio. It is very popular to make a ride up to Santa Teresa. So be aware that it is crowded and one has to wait some time to get on the tram. Best time is to be there early. Operation Starts at 8 am. Return tickets costs 20 Reales.

We went on two separate days the first was a Wed and we walked right up and it was so fast and charming. The second time was in republic day and it was 2.5 hour wait. A bit of bummer for our last full day but we were tired and it was hot so it worked out.
Zachary F — Google review
Would give 0 if I could) Total tourist trap. Waited over two hours just to get on the so-called “bonde” of Santa Teresa — all that for a few houses and a view you can easily see from plenty of other spots in Rio without wasting half your day. The ride itself is nothing special, and the worst part is you can simply drive or take an Uber straight up to the center of the neighborhood and skip the entire pointless wait. I honestly have no idea how this is still considered a tourist attraction. Avoid at all costs
Sebastian V — Google review
Very nice ride through Rio. Get the chance to see some of the city from a different perspective. Consider to take the ride early in the morning to avoid standing to much in line. As many other attractions none of the employees speak English, but this is not making the journey less enjoyable.
Casper C — Google review
The Tram is an amazing way to see Santa Teresa and its wonderful peace of Graffiti arts! It doesn’t just tell the story, it brightens the whole neighborhood!
Est R — Google review
A good idea would be to run more than 1 tram every 20 minutes when the lines are astronomically long. The tram arrives and sits empty at the station for 20 minutes before they allow travellers in. There is only one track going up but with adequate management of trains that doesn't stop other trams in the world to have more capacity. Also they only allow card payment which makes the purchase line long as well

Great location, especially if you're using Santos Dumont airport. Very clean and modern bedroom and bathroom. Large storage wardrobe and safe. Good selection in the mini bar. Warm welcome on arrival. Staff are very helpful if you need anything, especially printing things off for tours/visits to places. Very good breakfast selection. Amazing views from the rooftop bar. What's better than having a drink overlooking sugarloaf mountain and Christ the Redeemer statue

The location is absolutely lovely – just a short Uber ride to Copacabana, Ipanema, and the Santa Teresa area. The hotel also offers free bikes, which are perfect for a ride to Flamengo Beach. The rooms are small but cute, with big windows and kept very clean. Breakfast was excellent in both quality and variety, and the staff were always friendly and helpful. The highlight is the rooftop – the views are simply amazing.

The hotel is well located and easily accessible, with parking available for both business travelers and those traveling by car. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and organized. The air conditioning works perfectly and quietly, there's a minibar, a TV, and clean, fragrant bedding. The other hotel amenities are excellent. The staff are friendly and very polite, despite having stayed for only a day and a half with my girlfriend, we felt very well served by the service. The view from the room was postcard-worthy, with Pão de Açúcar welcoming us. The breakfast is hearty, with a variety of fruits, juices, breads, cakes, coffee, and more. There's a rooftop restaurant with an excellent menu and a beautiful view. We recommend staying on higher floors to avoid the noise around the hotel, especially at night. We highly recommend it!

Great location as it’s only one stop away from Ipanema or Copacabana on the metro. The neighborhood has everything that you need, Restaurant , supermarkets all within walking distance. The hotel has a great rooftop with breathtaking views of Pao de Azucar. However the rooms were small, and the bathrooms are not updated.

People are nice and friendly, location is good and roof top bar is very nice, too. That said, the property is connected with Hilton, and this is where it sucks. As a top tier member, I'm paying 65 BRL for the parking - that is the record I ever paid in Brazil for hotel parking. Most of the properties wave it for Diamond members. Free breakfast worked fine and was good. Let's get to the points - of course they did not post automatically. Even after 2 reminders they did not post, so had to fix with the HH hotline - this is annoying. Both Hilton Copacabana as well as Barra work so much better in that respect. Lastly, the property is overpriced compared to the other 2 mentioned hotels in Rio. I probably will avoid this one in the future.
Daniel R — Google review
Enjoyed my stay in this hotel. Larissa in the front desk was very accommodating. The rooftop is probably the best spot in this hotel. Breakfast was amazing

1st time in Brazil. Decided to stay in this hotel. Was not disappointed! Staff is extremely friendly, helpful, and management is great! I picked a basic room, which was small but more than adequate, I was more interested in the rooftop bar view. Stayed a couple of nights and also attended the new years party they put on, which was well organized and a lot of fun. I will definitely stay here again next time I visit Rio! Side note: From my understanding Botafogo isn't a great area to be in, I had no issues though. Just be smart with your surroundings.
Kris A — Google review
If i could give this place zero stars I would. The worst service I’ve ever experienced and I’ve travelled quite a bit. Every request is a “no”. The room hasn’t been serviced in 2 days and it was a real challenge getting anything replaced like coffee capsules, water, etc. The smell in the corridors is just horrendous. Staff barely speaks any English and have little to no desire to try and understand or accommodate your request. The only good thing about this hotel is room itself and the view. Highly disappointing. Avoid at all cost.

Corcovado, named for its distinctive hunchback shape, is home to the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue and offers a trail and viewing platform. Couples seeking romance in Rio can enjoy a cable car ride up Sugar Loaf mountain or take the funicular railway to see the awe-inspiring statue atop Corcovado. The bustling beaches provide a special setting for sipping caipirinhas and catching spectacular sunsets at Arpoador.
Stunning place, blessed by the view! You can park close to the entrance, about 10’ walk! Cost only R$57,00/person + R$5,00 the van trip! Ignore the guys trying to get advantage on tourists! They charge a lot, and make a lot of pressure!

There is nothing new to describe. very famous and popular place. it is exciting to visit the famous status. lots of people. the only negative is the long queue before you can take the train up to the status. i have waited approx. 1.5 hours. it is possible to book tickets online. a little more expensive but it is worth it. It is stunning to see Rio de Janeiro from there. I was lucky with the weather.

Stunning!!!! A must see if you are in Rio. Easy access using Uber. Once you are inside the park, small vans will take you to the electric escalator where the Christ is. We were here during week day. The traffic was very heavy right before noon. I would advise to go early. The views are stunning 😍 Just open your eyes and enjoy the experience!!!

I don’t know I was a little bit disappointed because I hiked up there and I was beat and worked really hard to see the statue and then it’s like like 60 Reals or 11 bucks to get in there and I thought he was against the money changers and stuff but I mean, I know it’s a practical aspect of maintaining a parking. I don’t know just hit me wrong at that moment.

This majestic statue is truly a work of art! I was awestruck! It is definitely a must do if you go to Rio de Janeiro. I visited Corcovado during my first trip to Rio in 2008 (The pictures are from 2008. Some things must have changed a bit). I took a cab to the site from Rio (about an hour ride). Once you arrive you have to climb stairs to arrive onto a platform. The views are beautiful already. They set up small stores on the platform where you can buy souvenirs, local ice creams, sodas, water, and various snacks. It’s great to find refreshments since once can get quite thirsty from the climb and the warm weather. You get to the statue by escalator. The views from there are as majestic as the statue. Yes, many people are there but the sceneries mesmerize you.

I hiked Corcovado on March 2021. Travelers during that year were few so I was lucky that the place wasn't heavily crowded. I started the hiking trail at Parque Lage. No entrance fee that time. The entrance closes at 2pm. I got right in time. The hiking trail was pretty easy. You can finish it in an hour or could be less. But I like taking photos so I took my time. The trail was nice. I like how the locals would warmly greet you as they pass by. I take all photos myself, even my selfie! Check out my IG- @jl.dormido

(Translated by Google) The place is in Botafogo. You can drive up. However, there are very few parking spaces, and some are for people with mobility difficulties. You can walk up, on a road where cars circulate, but it is not very busy. The climb begins at Praça Eng. Bernardo Saião. Where the Memorial to the Victims of the Holocaust is located, which I have already reviewed. The place is quiet these days. A police car drives around. The view is somewhat obscured by trees. We can see Botafogo Beach and Sugarloaf Mountain. There are ramps to access the Monument. There are bathrooms inside the Memorial. There is a food truck next to the parking lot. It is very well maintained. (Original) O local fica em Botafogo. Pode subir de carro. Mas tem pouquíssimas vagas para estacionamento, e parte é para pessoas com dificuldade de locomoção. The architectural crown jewel of Rio de Janeiro. Nothing comes close to compare to the opulence and magnificence of the Theatro Municipal! Indubitably one of the most gorgeous opera houses in the world, matched only by places like the Palais Garnier in Paris, or Bayreuth in Germany.
I V — Google review
My recent visit to the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro to see the opera "Pérola" was a truly enchanting experience. From the moment I stepped into the majestic lobby, I was transported to a bygone era of elegance and grandeur. The architecture of the theater is simply breathtaking, with its intricate details and opulent decor creating a sense of awe and anticipation. The performance of "Pérola" itself was a masterpiece. The orchestra was phenomenal, filling the hall with a rich and powerful sound that resonated with every note. The singers were exceptional, delivering their complex arias with a passion and skill that captivated the entire audience. The staging was beautiful, with stunning costumes and clever use of lighting that enhanced the dramatic storytelling. What I found particularly impressive was the way the entire production came together so seamlessly. The collaboration between the musicians, singers, and technical crew was flawless, resulting in a performance that was both emotionally moving and technically brilliant. The Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro is more than just a venue; it is a cultural landmark that continues to uphold the highest standards of artistic excellence. Attending a performance here is not just an evening out; it's an opportunity to witness world-class artistry in a truly magnificent setting. I highly recommend anyone visiting Rio to check their schedule and experience the magic for themselves. It was a night I will not soon forget.

Escadaria Selarón, also known as the Selaron Steps, is a famous public stairway in the city adorned with colorful and hand-painted tiles. This iconic landmark consists of 215 vibrant steps leading up from Rua Joaquim Silva. The Chilean-born artist Jorge Selarón dedicated decades to covering the steps with over 2,000 tiles collected from more than 60 countries around the world.
I took an Uber to this place and it was very easy to find. It's literally a staircase filled up with lots of different tiles from all over the world and colors. It's beautiful and very colorful. Attention to the hundreds of people trying to take pictures because on Fridays and weekends it's kinda crowded. The best time to visit it is in the afternoon during week days. It'll make a lot easier to take a nice picture. Wearing comfortable shoes is a good idea. If you go up till the top, you can even take the street over the hill and reach the ruins park.
Caio M — Google review
It could really be pack after 10am. So, if you’d like a nice photo, do go early! We had to go back a 2nd time to get nice photo taken without people everywhere!
Est R — Google review
The stairs themselves are stunning but the sheer number of people trying to pose on them makes it overwhelming and takes away from the art. Go early or in the rain for the best chance at a decent view. The street leading up to the steps is full of souvenir stalls that are actually pretty well priced compared to the same stuff at Christ the Redeemer or Ipanema.
Maris C — Google review
Such an amazing vibe with beautiful artwork on the steps. It can be a bit crowded, but it is so worth the trip. Grab a caprihana and stroll on up the steps. Great little shops at the bottom to check out too.

Easy to miss if you're going from up top. The stair view can be enjoyed from tje bottom only. They're located on a 5-10 minute walk from the cathedral and are definitely worth a visit.

Sept.25: would have gotten 5 stars if it wasn't so overcrowded. We unfortunately visited on Sunday afternoon, lots of tourists which all took their time to get pictures... It was even hard only to enter the stairs just to go up.
Petra ( — Google review
Very busy but was awesome finding out the guy, selaron, who created these steps and his unfortunate demise. The graffiti was cool to see aswell. Cheap cocktails all up the steps which is refreshing once to the top. The only bad thing about it is the amount of people but that can't be helped We can thank Pharrell and snoop for that 😂
Charlie C — Google review
This place is an iconic one. I went there late in the afternoon and was packed! Still, flocks of people would come and go leaving good time to take pictures. However, the best moment to be there is very very early in the morning like 6.30am, sun rises around 6-6.18am so it'll be well lit and everything, and most importantly, empty! You don't need to buy a ticket to enter this place since it's open for everyone. Just be careful of your belongings as always, pay attention to your surroundings and you'd be just fine! If you have enough time it's really amazing to really pay attention to the different ceramic tiles, also, be careful on where you step, after all it's ceramic so it can be slippery or tricky at times.

The Portuguese Royal Library in Rio de Janeiro is an absolute treasure and one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. However, I must caution that the area in which the library is located can be a bit rough. While I wouldn't discourage anyone from visiting, it's essential to exercise extra caution and be aware of your surroundings. All things considered, the library is an absolute must-visit for book lovers and anyone who appreciates stunning architecture and design. Located in the Bossa Nova Mall, Xian is considered one of the most romantic restaurants in Rio de Janeiro. It has a rooftop with views of the Pao de Acucar, Christ the Redeemer and Guanabara Bay. The restaurant is beautifully luxurious and stunning, looking like it's out of a movie set. As soon as I walked in, I thought to myself: This looks like an NYC restaurant.
Beautiful views! This location is located in the shopping plaza. The rooftop was a challenge to find, but an employee on the lower level was quick to assist me with locating. The service was great. Went for my birthday lunch. On the terrace of a shopping mall, right by the airport. Nice views from the open section of the water and overlooking the sugar loaf mountain etc. I sat inside because of the weather. Service was very good - friendly and professional. Food was delicious and the presentation was very nice too. Except for the desert, I had the special one, and felt the description wss exaggerated. The cake was too sweet and the sauce made it even more so. Prices are expensive. But 25$ for a main dish with rather small portion is a bit much, in my opinion. A Caipirinha, dumdum starter, Camarao curry main, chocolate cake desert and an espresso cost above 50$. This included a service charge of 12%+ They wished me for my birthday, but would've been nice to at least offer the little espresso for free. Well.

A great lookout at the end of ipanema beach providing a panoramic perspective of the mayhem on the beach. Note that on the weekends the beaches are particularly packed & there is little room to breathe. If you are looking for a relaxing time, go during the week days.
Karol G — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous views of the southern area of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Try to arrive as early as possible in the morning as there are very few people there. The only problem with doing so is that you will have the sun behind the city itself so if you want to take selfie’s (which I guess a lot of us do these days), it might be a bit of a problem. But it also opens up for some photographic creativity!

Shopping
The Botafogo Praia Shopping mall is one of the largest in the neighbourhood, and it has a wide range of stores, including some of the best designer outlets. It also includes several food outlets and a cinema theatre.
By far my favorite shopping mall in Rio de Janeiro. It has an spectacular view to the Botafogo Bay & Marina area and the Sugarloaf Mountains. It's very well organized and safe, with a convenient multiple floors parking system (with automatic machines for payment). There's an app for convenience. There are several restaurants and coffee shops here, including at least 2 big food courts and several smaller areas for dining along the floors. Aside from eating, visitors can expect a cinema, several stores and services in general, of course, including a drugstore and a small co-working space. It's a pet-friendly shopping mall. It's totally worth the visit any day of the week, but specially on weekdays.
Hanike T — Google review
The stores are excellent. But it’s ludicrous that there are only two widely separated elevators one of which is often out of service and badly placed placed escalators
Jake — Google review
The food in the restaurant is good and affordable, but the best perk of the place is definitely the view..
Atanas V — Google review
The reviews here keep complaining about stairs but this mall has ELEVATORS AND ESCALATORS! The comments about "stairs stairs stairs" for 8 floors of shopping scared me off but I went there today and was pleased to say I found this mall to be the best mall in Rio for tourists. It was cleaner, more organized and featured many American fast food and restaurants : McDonald's, Burger King, Subway, Outback and Taco Bell. It even has a theater on the 8th floor. The view from. The 8th floor btw is excellent for Sugarloaf Mountain and the adjacent lake where the boats/yachts are parked/anchored. Not sure again why everyone is complaining... It's a great mall! The other "tourist mall" is more like an outlet mall compared to this place
Ormand D — Google review
Decent mall. Not too many options but has some selections for clothing, perfume/cosmetics, and food. Two of my favorites about this mall is that they have a area for coworking and a view of the city at the top - so cool!
Leonard — Google review
Because of the vertical nature of this mall, it might take some time to find out a particular store. Plus, there restaurants and eateries are spread around multiple floors, which can be confusing. Still, this mall has two things going for it. First, its location is very convenient and it is easily accessible from Botafogo hotels. Second, its top floor has an amazing view of the Guanabara Bay. It is breathtakingly beautiful in a clear day.
Alex L — Google review
Cafe Nooma on the 8 Floor sells high quality chocolate and food. The best view in the mall.

Pedra do Arpoador is a stunning rocky peninsula that separates Ipanema and Copacabana beaches in Rio de Janeiro. It's a popular spot for surfers and offers breathtaking sunset views from its walking paths. The location provides unrestricted 360-degree views of the Atlantic Ocean, making it one of Rio's most romantic spots to watch the sunset. Visitors can enjoy the lively atmosphere with food stands offering local treats like tapioca, popcorn, and corn, as well as vegan options.
I walked from Rua José Linhares to this spot. The road was blocked off just for runners and bikers. It was sweet. If there is good weather people are out and about. Lots of vendors and plenty of spots nearby to eat. I was able to negotiate a good price for surf board rentals as well right next to Pedra. Would highly recommend visiting if you want to tan, take pictures, surf, eat, play volleyball. They have it all. Somewhat crowded but everyone was respectful.
Santiago C — Google review
You can enjoy a full view of Ipanema Beach from this spot. It's best to arrive early to secure a place, as it can get very crowded. On a clear day, you can witness a spectacular sunset. However, it's not recommended to visit if the rocks are wet, as they can become slippery. For non-smokers, the presence of many people smoking may detract from your experience. Additionally, there may be a slight urine smell near the bushes. Despite these factors, it's still a unique experience worth having at least once during your visit to Rio.
Miguel — Google review
Nice spot for sunset. A lot of people go there about 5-6pm to enjoy it. Have people who sell drinks and beers. Be careful to don't slip. Safe, have police downstairs.
Sylvain F — Google review
Watch your things while on the Arpoador! The moment you notice a random lad following you, proceed with caution. They’ll try and play it off by walking up and slightly past you until out of sight and post up to assess your valuables on one of a few goat trails to each side of the rock. Unfortunately, a few degenerates looking to ruin the vibe of Rio here. There is some police presence, but don’t get your hopes up. Sidewalk is full of vendors which is good. Tons of folks on the beach leading up to the Arpoador. Stay in groups. Enjoy the view safely!
Ranger T — Google review
Great place to watch the sunset. I suggest getting there an hour before sunset, bring drinks and snacks and enjoy. Remember to clap hands when the sun hits the mountain. Lots of people selling drinks and food. And many many people. You can take the path up the back to sit on the rocks further back.
P-J F — Google review
This might not be the safest spot, especially if the weather is poor. Beware to not slip on the wet rocks. I can imagine the sunset being amazing though it didn't happen for us. There is quite a bit of a urine smell in the bushes.
Dennis B — Google review
A beautiful spot to watch the sunset, it definitely captures the essence of Rio! Quite crowded and hard to find a spot, so get there early if you want to sit. Also, for safety reasons, please don't buy drinks from open cups that you didn't see being made in front of you!!
Elinor A — Google review
Arpoador, with its breathtaking sunsets, is truly a gem in Rio de Janeiro. As the sky paints itself in hues of orange and pink, locals and visitors alike gather to enjoy the view, often with a refreshing caipirinha in hand. The atmosphere is infectious, filled with laughter and the sounds of the ocean waves. It's a place where the warmth of the sun is matched only by the warmth of the people, making every evening spent there a memorable one. Indeed, Arpoador encapsulates the vibrant spirit of Brazil in every sunset.

Nestled in the Jadrim Botanico district of Rio's Zona Sul, the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro is a historic park that boasts a rich variety of flora and fauna. Established in 1808 and opened to the public in 1822, this sprawling garden spans 54 cultivated hectares and is home to an impressive collection of 6,500 different plants.
Cash only for tickets at the entrance. Easier to buy online before you go. Huge. Lots to see. Good playground for kids by the cafe. Washrooms are few and far between so plan ahead!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I absolutely loved this place! It is truly awesome and incredibly beautiful — a spot where you could easily spend hours just walking around and enjoying the scenery. The garden is full of different paths where you can explore for a long time without ever getting bored. Along the way, you can spot exotic animals, discover unique plants, and admire countless flowers in a variety of shapes and colors. It feels like a true oasis in the middle of the city. There is also a lovely café in the middle of the garden, perfect if you need a break or just want to sit down and enjoy the view. The whole area is very clean, spacious, and well-maintained, which makes the visit even more enjoyable. A wonderful experience overall, and definitely a place worth visiting!
Nataliia T — Google review
We road our bikes here from the Sheraton. You do not need to buy tickets in advance on a weekday. Gorgeous views, nice place to drink a coffee or have lunch. I also love monkeys, so seeing one was fun.
Chelsea T — Google review
The park is amazing! The best place to spend a few hours in while it’s hot outside. I saw incredible monkeys and birds, also cute lizards. The flora and fauna there is really worth seeing. I am really glad I got to visit the park. The only issue is the process of buying a ticket. Foreign tourists can do it only offline and with cash… so strange and really inconvenient
Darina L — Google review
Arguably the most underrated place to visit in Rio. We paid BRL80 per person to enter and spent 3 hours. You can fins cute monkeys running about and the scenery is absolutely gorgeous.

First place that I find the employees that are like Americans where they seem to hate their job and just sap your energy by being close to them. But that was just a few of them. Other than that, it was a very wonderful experience. It’s beautifully manicured and laid out expansive and beautiful monkeys and butterflies, Bromeliads and all sorts of cool stuff. Very definitely worth the experience and the fee. With the fee it keeps all of the small annoyances at bay. Thanks for this experience

Morro do Pontal de Sernambetiba is a massive rock formation that separates Praia do Recreio and Praia da Macumba. Despite being a bit far from the city center, the journey to the top is absolutely worthwhile. The climb offers breathtaking views and a serene atmosphere. While not considered the best beach in Rio, Recreio's unique hike and waves make it a must-visit spot.
Reasonably easy hike, only takes around 15 minutes to get up. Great view and perfect place to fly a drone. Have fun hiking!
Jacob S — Google review
The best place to take in the sunset in Recreio. However I wouldn't say it was an easy ascent, one section has a fixed rope to help get to the top. It is definitely more of a scramble than a walk. Having said that I was wearing flip flops when I went up.
Jim — Google review
Recreio is not the best beach in the Rio area, but this cool little hike and the waves make it worth the stop. It's a 30 minute hike to the top with a section that requires you to pull yourself up from a rope that has been tied by someone. The rope section is a bit sketchy, but the views from up top are worth it!!!! I've hiked to the top of this thing a handful of times!!!
Ryan S — Google review
Got robbed coming down from this hike at knifepoint. We thought it was safe because there were a lot of people on the trail and it was in the middle of the day. The police and lifeguards won't help you. They say this happens everyday on Morro do Pontal. If you look like a tourist, you will be targeted. I would think twice before going on this hike, although the view is incredible.

Free entrance and I was during a carnaval. Great prices on food, coconut water (7 reals), and other snacks. Great for kids. There is free public washrooms but they need to add more especially during events. Lovely scenery and I did not feel uncomfortable as a tourist. Some police officers. The museum has no fee but it is basically 6 or 7 crystals as shown in the pics.

The museum is located at Quinta da Boa Vista, a gorgeous park where it's possible to play with kids, have picnics, practice sports and have good time. Mesa do Imperador is a picturesque lookout point located about 1km up from Vista Chinesa in the Tijuca Forest. It was frequently visited by Dom Pedro II during the Empire, and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Visitors can drive to Alto da Boa Vista and then hike through the forest to reach this scenic spot. However, it's important to be cautious of monkeys in the area, as they may become aggressive if not given food.
