Iso Beach is a serene and picturesque spot where visitors can relax under the sun, frolic in the sand, or have a leisurely picnic while taking in breathtaking views of the ocean and Sakurajima. The beach also offers a walking path that provides stunning vistas of the surroundings. During summer, it's an ideal place for swimming and water sports like windsurfing and jet-skiing.
A small but charming beach with stunning views. When I visited, a couple was taking their wedding photos with the majestic Sakurajima volcano as the backdrop—truly a picturesque scene. There’s also a jet ski available, which I assume operates during the summer months.
The beach itself is simple, and the sand isn’t the best for kids to play on, but the breathtaking view more than makes up for it. Perfect for enjoying the scenery or a peaceful moment by the water!

Small but pretty beach a short walk away from Sengan-en garden. When we came in March 2025, we had great views of Sakurajima and saw many huge starfish.
Don’t know how the beach is for swimming but it’s easily reached by train and has probably one of the best views of Sakurajima over water <3 sat there for sunrise and it was magical!
Beautiful beach. Nice to chill and have a swim. Minus 1 star for having lifeguards on duty is as good as none. Lifeguard is busy talking on the phone and browsing his phone and playing games

Ok, the beach, location, view gets 5 stars. The public gets 1 star. There's a bit of a littering problem here - that includes glass and other unacceptable trash that you do NOT want to step on while enjoying a beach.
That said, just be a little careful and this is a * beautiful location. There is even quite a bit of water sports to be enjoyed here. Have a lovely time, take pictures then go upstairs for tea and jumbo-mochi dango. Heaven!
It was not so crowded place. I love being alone at this beach. There are many people do wind surfing here.

Nestled at an impressive 373 meters above sea level on the North Peak of Sakurajima, the Yunohira Observation Deck stands as the highest publicly accessible vantage point on this iconic volcano. Visitors are treated to breathtaking panoramic views that encompass the rugged lava fields, lush wooded slopes of Mount Sakurajima, and the sparkling expanse of Kagoshima Bay. On clear days, you can soak in unobstructed sights stretching across Kinko Bay and Kagoshima City.
Nice closer view of the volcano, observation deck up stairs provide panoramic views. The place is not crowded, but the bus station and the bus are crowded

A very good observation deck offering beautiful views of the volcano and its surrounding landscape. This spot provides a close look at Mount Sakurajima, one of Japan’s most active volcanoes, which has had frequent eruptions throughout history.
Today, the volcano remains active, with small eruptions regularly visible from the deck.
The site is well maintained, with clear viewpoints and information about the volcano’s history. A must visit for those interested in nature, geology, or simply enjoying a stunning panoramic view.

Another great viewpoint to see Sakurajima - believe this is the closest you can get to it at the moment.
If you climb to the second floor of the building, there is a huge photo of the crater on the floor.
There is a small carpark at the top if you cannot climb stairs, but most would park at the carpark located below the stairs.
Best spot on the island to see Sakurajima. The volcano was extremely active so we were able to see big plumes. Unfortunately because of rain visibility was limited
I just wished it was a bit closer to the action. Who hasn’t dreamed of walking through those dramatic clouds of smoke and steam? Still, it’s a beautiful and unforgettable spot, and here’s a sweet surprise: there’s a local cat who actually lives at the observation deck! Visitors are even welcome to feed him, and he’s become a bit of a star among those who stop by.
The view from the Yunohira observation point (bus stop 11 on the loop bus) is great! The tower has information in English and Japanese about the volcano’s history. There are toilets, and a gift shop. I recommend the local craft chuhai. On busy days, you may want to line up early for the next bus, though it’s only a 15-minute ride from there back to the Port.
Closest observatory point you can get to observe Sakurajima active volcano. Take a walk through the barren beauty of the lava areas to experience and imagine the intensity and power of past volcanic eruptions. Despite all these past, more than 5000 people are living at the foot of Sakurajima Mount as the volcanic areas are extremely rich soil which grows the best white radish (turnips) & fruits in Japan.
Wonder why is it named as Sakurajimi? From its appearance like a cherry tree in bloom, when from a volcanic eruption, hot rock rains down onto the slopes, lighting up the island volcano.
Location is about 4 km from central Kagoshima City and a 15-minute ferry ride from the downtown area.

Located at the foot of Minamidake on the volcanic island of Sakurajima, the Arimura Lava Observation Deck offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and landscapes. Visitors can explore the Taisho lava field and admire black pines in the area. The observatory provides a lesser-known perspective of Sakurajima and showcases intriguing geological features.
Perfekt weather and a perfect ash cloud! One of the main reasons we came to the southern most part of Japan mainland was to witness the power of nature. Stunning view on the volcano from this spot!

A very nice observation spot with lots of lava formations and platforms with great views. If you take the path around, you will see tunnels and safety corridors in case there is an eruption. A very scenic pathway and sights.
Nice park for vast viewing of the volcano. Also has three shops where you can get some local souvenirs. Got one keychain with ashes. Love it.
Volcano was very active so great place to view, albeit buried in ash. Hired e-bike from Port to ride there. Fun ride with great views along the way.
Must see place! You can take a bus or ride a taxi for 2000 yen from the ferry terminal.

This viewpoint was further away from the station. There were fewer visitors. The shelter area was large enough. Taking pictures with the volcano background was very easy. Carpark was free.

Beautiful park, with an ancient built stone bridge. There is an exhibition center explaining the history of this place.
This is a great place to go hang out for a while and retreat from the more touristy areas. There's a small museum and cafe in the park, and it's right next door to a whole strip of restaurants if you're looking for something more. The grounds are well-kept and you can even go down and play in the water on the hot days.
Looks like a old relocated bridge "misplaced"
Small park with two old bridges. It does look strange having fake rivers go under the bridges though. This place also has kids equipment so would be good for a picnic.
Beautiful bridges and museum
We used one-day tram pass to go to this place. Though the weather was very hot, there was a small pond for kids and adults to play in water.
The museum also explained us how the bridge was built through a 5-min short video.
Although there were not many foreign tourists getting off on this spot. If having time, it's a good choice.
Nice little park. I honestly don't know what it's all about, what the 'memorial' part is or even if the bridge is authentic, but it's a great easy access park to take the kiddos to and hang out. Don't know where the river water comes from but it was cool and refreshing on the summer day I went.

In December 2022, I visited Xavier Park, a small but popular tourist spot. While locals may see it as an ordinary park, tourists can enjoy watching children play happily and take a moment to relax or use the facilities. Additionally, history enthusiasts and those interested in religious landmarks may find it worth a visit.

It is good to visit the church in front of the statue as well. They have informations in English.
This park is really small, if you want to chill for a while or go to the bathroom you can do it here.

Sakurajima Nature Dinosaur Park is a family-friendly park located near the ferry terminal on Sakurajima, offering panoramic mountain views. The park features dinosaur-themed play areas with climbing frames and fiberglass structures, surrounded by hundreds of cherry trees. Adjacent to the Chiran Peace Hall, the park also showcases historical sites related to World War II Kamikaze missions, including a Zero fighter plane and Triangular Barracks.
I like how this park feels! It's aged, but it's an interesting place for a short visit. The dinosaurs are beaten up a bit, but they are fun to see. Also, you get a really nice view of the volcano! The road leading up to the park is curvy, so be careful. If you have children, they would certainly love this place!

My child loved playing in this park. Lots of slides and climbing frames. The dinosaur theme is great and is extra cool as it sits in the shadow of a smoking volcano. It has one of the tallest and longest roller slides I have ever seen, you get a brilliant view from the top but rolling down is slow.
It's a challenge to access without a vehicle due to the incline of the road. We came here almost 20 years ago and it is mostly the same. The roller slide will hurt/massage you unless you can master balancing on your feet going down. Has a great view of Sakurajima and a good shelter if it any rocks start falling. A nice place for kids to play and picnic.
This place has its own unique charm, absolutely love the rundown dinosaurs. The view is absolutely amazing when you stand on the top of the slide, and there’s also a lookout where you can see the beautiful strait.
Went when it was raining, but it was still pretty cool. Can walk from the ferry drop off spot to get here. Josh Briel wasn't on his phone at all because of the rain, really made the trip for me
This place is so eerie and awesome. Pretty much had the whole park to myself. Cool stuff to look at, and leads to a great view.
Best Theme Park in Kagoshima, huge dinosaurs and exciting slide. Must visit!
The tall slide was different and fun, you wouldn't see much of these outside Japan. However other than that, unless you are really into Dinosaurs and have a special specific liking of Dinosaur themed slides and playground facilities, you will find this somewhat lacking. The path up to the park gives you an opportunity to get a very nice harbour view of kagoshima and the sakurajima coastline, this bumped this up to a 4 stars from a 3.
