The Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway offers self-guided tours of Burns Cottage and a museum showcasing manuscripts, books, artifacts, and artwork related to the poet. The museum's collection includes a variety of Burns memorabilia such as his possessions and manuscripts. Visitors can explore biographical information and interactive displays that bring the poet's poems to life through background snippets, translations, and recitations. The museum also features entertaining audio and visual performances suitable for children.
Was a great wee day we went to Robert Burns cottage then walked down to the museum was lovely in the sunshine the grounds were well kept and clean and tidy, staff was lovely welcoming and helpful, well sign posted and the museum had loads of original written work by Robert Burns and the kids enjoyed the interaction stuff and the park outside, we never ate anything in the cafe, but lots of choice, glad we visited
Lorraine M — Google review
Interesting visit for anyone interested in this iconic poet, cottage set in pretty grounds, car parking is efficient, toilets situated just before entrance to cottage, small place as you can imagine, the actual museum is situated approximately 20 minutes walk from the cottage also the cafe, you can drive however you would miss some of the ambiance of the place, well worth a visit
Russell T — Google review
Lovely atmosphere with rich and engaging exhibits that give real insight into Robert Burns’ life and work. The café is surprisingly good too, with a wide variety of food. Overall a very enjoyable visit and well worth it.
April L — Google review
We had a day trip out to the Robert Burns museum and cottage and found both extremely interesting. The museum tells the story of his life and writings, we were surprised by the amount of music and songs he wrote as well as poetry. There are a lot of artifacts tracing his whole life and writings. The carvings of the Tam o' shanter story are excellent and well worth a look. There is also a very good restaurant there with a varied selection of food and drink. We took the poets path to the Burns Cottage but there is another car park there if you want. The cottage is well laid out and gives you a good idea how they lived back then. Outside the museum you can walk to the Burns Monument and gardens and not far from this is the Brig O'Doon bridge. All the staff we spoke to were really friendly and helpful and made it a good day out. Steve and Jenny
Steve — Google review
We only did the gardens and the walk to his birthplace as the museum isnt dog friendly. This was free and worth a look around. Good to see BrigaDoon too.
Matty S — Google review
An interesting time looking around the museum, used our NT membership. Went to view Brig a Doon and walked the Poets path both ways and enjoyed the sculptures beside the path. Didn't have time to visit his actual birth place, viewed it from the outside only.
Ian K — Google review
Museum was okay if you are into that sort of thing, the garden was lovely,if you climb the monument you get a good view of it,plus there is the brig o doon bridge, then you can go to burns cottage. Staff were really nice and explained a few things, good cup of coffee in cafe.
Heather S — Google review
The museum is excellent, a good hour or so to look around, well put together with interactive displays to maintain engagement. The shop appears quite pricey (NTS comparable), the RBB cottage could benefit from some information boards..., the cafe (visited twice in two weeks) was excellent the first time with very friendly staff, accommodating and helpful, the second visit was disappointing (different staff, different attitudes). Good size car park nearby (50-100yds), 10 min walk to RBB cottage or a short drive to the adjoining car park there.

Ayr Beach is a picturesque and family-friendly destination that has been attracting visitors since the Victorian era. The sandy beach offers opportunities for water recreation, fishing, and leisurely strolls. On the seafront park side of the road, there's a large children's play area with a pirate ship climbing frame and a putting green for crazy golf. Additionally, the beach features stunning white sands and various activities such as crazy golf nearby.
Very nice beach, good play park for the kids although it gets a little busy. Can walk along the promenade up to the pier which offers great views along the coast down towards Greenan Castle.
Scruffy D — Google review
Nic place discovered while I was on my short holiday. Amazing views, you can walk far in to the sea, as water is shallow. Nice playground for kids and places with delicious ice creams.
Tomasz F — Google review
Had a lovely day at Ayr Beach! The weather was perfect — clear skies and a really lively atmosphere. Great place for a walk along the shore, and we grabbed a chippy nearby which was the perfect touch. Can’t beat it on a sunny day!
Nicole Q — Google review
Such a shame that the beach is full of litter. Unsanitary sand, too many flies due to all the rubbish around and it attracts too many seagulls because of the leftover food disposed of anywhere. No bins in sight, so no wonder the lack of care. The beach has great potential. Warm water. Impressive to see giant jellyfish. Unfortunately it doesn’t make me want to go back.
Daniela T — Google review
Ayr Beach in Ayr is a wonderful spot for a relaxing day out. The long, sandy stretch is clean and scenic, ideal for family picnics, walking along the promenade, or simply enjoying the fresh sea air. With free parking, onsite restaurants, and facilities that are wheelchair accessible, it’s a convenient and inclusive choice for all visitors. Water recreation, boating, and fishing options make it an active, enjoyable destination. The nearby entertainment center adds extra value, making it perfect for both leisurely strolls and fun-filled outings. I highly recommend Ayr Beach for anyone looking for a family-friendly place to unwind by the sea.
Priya G — Google review
What a lovely beach. We found a free car park which is a bonus and took a lovely stroll down the sea front. Plenty to see too. Beach was sandy and plenty of shell picking too.
Anna L — Google review
We were there for the air show and had a great dat,we were amazed at the scale of the event, the facilities were bang on as was the organizing. The kids also had a great day.

Ayr is a charming Victorian resort town that has transitioned from a seaport economy to a popular tourist destination. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks along the wide streets and esplanades, with the option to venture as far as Greenan Castle or continue on the Ayrshire Coastal Path. The area also offers attractions such as Pirate Pete's Soft Play Centre, Heads of Ayr Farm Park, and historic sites like Wallace Tower and Ayr Citadel.
A scenic cliff top castle ruin that gives great photos from the beach and is also accessible through some local pathways. The ruin is unmanned and can only be looked at from outside, beware it is on a cliff top. There is a good free car park situated in a residential area very near to the ruin and you will see it when parking.
Simon R — Google review
This place is only good for a walk to and for photos. Most of the castle has gone and the entrance is bricked up....... but if you get the right weather you can get some spectacular photos
Marty C — Google review
Nice quiet walk. No access into the castle. But the views are worth it. Access around the castle is via the beach and walk up the side of a steep hill or from the road and a dirt path through a field.
Peter M — Google review
Public car park with plenty of spaces. Access from Main car park was marsh land which made it tricky to access beach. But if you walk to the left towards the castle and stay in the grass, you can access beach further down. The beach was covered in seaweed, debris and a lot of huge dead jellyfish. Not anyone's fault on course but be aware. My dog went straight the rotten carcass of a small seal/dolphin on the beach. Lovely walk to the ruins - there are pathways through the dunes as well as on the beach. Great views of the castle from the beach and great views of the bay. Worth a visit and it's free.
Finding B — Google review
Lovely beach area. Castle is a tiny ruin and isn't accessible. You can climb up and sit infront of it. For one you can look in go to denure up the coastal route!
Adele A — Google review
Short walk from Ayr or Craig tara to this very old building, you can't enter im guessing due to vandalism but still very impressive. Be careful as it it very, very high and steep. Also gives you access to the beach.
Brian L — Google review
We had fun exploring the area and were happy to get there when the tide was going down. We walked along the shore and then up tot the castle before returning to the car park by the route through the field. (Pictures must have been taken on husband's phone as I know I took some but cannot find them and his phone wasn't losing charge as fast as mine was.)
Kym S — Google review
A place walk along the beach and look up at history. Quiet with a few walkers and other visitors to the site. The views from around the castle are stunning as you look towards Ayr and Arran.

Bowling alley
LA Bowl Ayr is a popular bowling alley located near Craig Tara, making it a convenient option for families on holiday. Visitors can take advantage of special deals like 2-for-1 games on Wednesdays after 7 pm, allowing them to enjoy more games for less. The staff is known for being friendly and helpful, creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests. It's recommended to bring cash as there have been reported issues with the card machine.
We had pre booked for myself and my two boys to have two games of ten pin bowling while we visited Craig Tara Caravan park near by. Very close drive away from the camp site. Did have a little trouble figuring out where to park at first. Didn't realise I had to go to an under ground parking area between the buildings but after talking to helpful staff got that sorted out. Was just over 30 quid for the games of bowls and although it was busy staff where really helpful and nice and got us all kitted out and ready. Enjoyed both our games of bowls then grabbed some lunch for all 3 of us for just over 15 quid. Hot dogs and chips x2 and a few packs of crisps and drinks and was all done and happy. Great day had and thanks to all the really nice staff there for making it a special wee day for us. Will be back again next time I'm in the neighbourhood.
Stewie'sRetroGaming — Google review
We came here for the laser tag for my sons birthday as we were recommended here by a friend. First impressions weren't great to be honest, steep set of stairs as you walk in the front door so not ideal if you have a buggy, wheelchair or reduced mobility like myself, was a bit of a struggle. There was a bit of a que when we arrived, music was far too loud as we waited in said que, not a great deal of things to do if you have younger kids with you, other than the bowling obviously, there's a pool table, 2-3 game machines typical racing game teddy grab and there's a little cafe aswell as a bar and restaurant. Personally we won't be back.
Laurence T — Google review
Amazing lanes. Service is decent, food needs work
Reiss A — Google review
Awesome place, filled with fun and well mannered, patient staff 🌟 Clean throughout and sensibly priced all round. We had my son's wee birthday party there and all the kids were beyond delighted 🤩🎳🤩 Fantastic atmosphere to celebrate 🪩 Great portions and generous play time for all. Amazing wee take-away gift in the end for the birthday kid and each friend too 🙏🏼 Oddly enough, the ketchup available is extremely limited, both for visitors or party goers 😄
Wander Q — Google review
We went for bowling, they currently have an offer every Wednesday after 7pm with reduced charges for bowling. Prices are very reasonable and we had a great time. Staff are very helpful and friendly.
Anas A — Google review
This place used to be pretty decent but is now a terrible place with overpriced food, drinks and bowling. The burgers were disgusting and the cheese on the burger was like plastic and the pizzas were like rubber. The place is overall very unclean and it’s just a depressing place. The shoes you have to wear are disgusting and not very clean. I will not be returning!
Emma B — Google review
Visited may half term (England) family of 5 (aged between 7 and 13) gentleman was extremely helpful always checking if everything was OK. kids loved the bowling and the laser tag was brilliant would recommend anyone on holiday in ayr to visit.

If you have kids this is a must. Great soft play staff and owner are amazing. Very friendly and food prepared fresh it's delicious. Extremely clean can't recommend enough.
Mo P — Google review
Ideal soft play for young children. Has everything for a fun few hours. Food is good and an extensive menu on offer. Great fresh coffee and ice creams too. Staff are friendly and helpful even when it gets super busy and chaotic. There are 2 floors, upstairs, a bit calmer. Busy and noisy but still enjoyable even on a bank holiday.
SOLERSOLUTIONS — Google review
Soft play area Is fantastic for all ages , we use to go every year both of my sons have autism but was very disappointed in the boss! I explained to him that my oldest son has autism, he has no understanding of what it means by age appropriate for certain parts of play areas! I was with my son at all times! The man was very harsh towards me with no compassion whatsoever, even the parents felt sorry for me and couldn’t believe the way he treated me son, and yes i do know that there is signs there for a reason as my youngest son was aware of the signs! but because my oldest son who has complex needs and no understanding of signs what so ever , the boss should have some kind of compassion And understanding! I never had any bother before in pirate Pete’s before as I did always explain to staff members and they were very good! food was very expensive £6 for two slices of toast! Quite disappointed I don’t think I’ll go back!
Sinead H — Google review
Out for a walk along Aye beach with my friend and stopped by for coffee and cake. Very nice. Friendly service and staff.
Annette J — Google review
Outrageously expensive, especially when compared with Kids Play in Prestwick, 2 miles away. £24 for two children to play for 2 hours is iniquitous and I shan't be returning at those over-inflated prices. The food is also rather on the expensive side. Go to Kids Play Prestwick instead.
The W — Google review
It’s ok but very expensive. £12 for 1 kid for soft play! £2 for a wee bottle of water. Airport prices. Folk must be minted.
Jack E — Google review
love this place. its so clean (unlike others in the area) and has a closed off baby area and a really big toddler area.

Good weather, party atmosphere & able to get close to the horses. Plenty of places to bet. Security was good. Bar service was quick, staff friendly & quick cleaning tables. Good food options too. We even got on TV as the camera panned across the parade of horses!! Excellent work ITV :-)

Very nice race course, plenty of space. Staff on the gate were very pleasant & helpful, pointed me in the right direction to find who I was looking for. I can't say how long you'd have to wait for tickets as I wasn't there for the racing. There for another event.

Fed up of members of the gym asking me to show them how to use the equipment. I do not work there! But when I look for someone who does they are nowhere to be seen. Or when I bring it to their attention I get a funny look from the staff. Hire more gym instructors so us paying members do not get bothered.
The L — Google review
The swimming pool is ok, the gym is good, the sauna is mediocre, and they've already got rid of the jacuzzi. They're getting rid of the plunge pool which is annoying because I used it to relieve pain, but the staff are wonderful.
Robert M — Google review
In my opinion in the gym machines are too close to each other. A lot of the staff rather has a chat with their colleagues or friends who come in then to keep an eye on the work floor. But beside this i love it.
Franciscus V — Google review
Review of swimming & changing facilities. Citadel is a monument of mismanagement. The changing facilities are old, battered and filthy. They're long overdue a deep clean, and unfortunately they don't appear to get regular or daily cleaning. The pool area should be great, but it's really showing it's ages and lack of care and investment. Investment, interestingly SAC have decided to spend millions on improving the external appearance of the entrance to Citadel, visitors to Ayr being hoodwinked apparently being more important than the experience of local people, the customer. There's cracked and smashed tiles throughout, leaky roof, smashed windows covered with bin bags, urinals overflowing onto the floor, smelly toilets etc. But yes, the entrance will look nice. There's leisure centres abandoned elsewhere in the UK that even after 4-5 years worth of graffiti and vandalism they're still cleaner and better looked after than Citadel.

Burns Cottage is the 18th-century childhood home of national poet Robert Burns, now transformed into a museum offering self-guided tours. Located in Alloway, it is part of the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum and surrounded by the beautiful Burns Monument and Memorial Gardens. The area also features landmarks from his famous works, such as the Brig o Doon bridge. The cottage provides an immersive experience showcasing life during Burns' time, including the very bed where he and his siblings were born.
The cottage and associated kirk and gardens are a nice bit of local history for Alloway. Well worth the visit to appreciate the life of a famous poet.

Very worth a visit. Enjoyed the auld Kirk, his fathers grave and the brig of Doon. The museum was very dark inside making the exhibits impossible to read in many occasions. I came out with sore eyes.

Staff are so knowledgeable and passionate about the place. There is a cafe with a lovely playground too. Prices are very reasonable both admissions and in the cafe/gift shop. I would recommend, it's worth the visit.

Golf club
Belleisle Golf Course is one of two 18-hole courses located within the picturesque Belleisle Country Park. The course, designed by James Braid, offers a fair yet challenging test of golfing skills. The recently opened clubhouse features a pro shop, golf simulator, and cafe for a complete experience. The estate also boasts walled gardens, a conservatory, and large play areas for children.
We wanted a golf course to play whilst campervanning in Scotland , weather permitting. We were able to book in at Belleisle Golf course , big Thanks to Sally at reception and huge big Thanks to Richard , runs the pro shop, we were able to hire clubs, trolleys & bought balls . He very helpful , threw in an electric trolley for me. The weather mostly did the right thing but this is Scotland and can change frequently , we did have a couple passing showers, but that's part of golf ⛳️. The picturesque course is nicely laid out with smooth & true greens. We both thoroughly enjoyed our game and experience here. The green fees and hireage were very reasonable. Would be happy to come back and play again , if your a golfer and travelling through Scotland can recommend the Belleisle and Royal Troon / Prestwick courses are just up the road . Big tick from a couple of kiwi's
Mark C — Google review
Lovely course great condition green fast as it had been dry But would like to see someone going around the course and cleaning up the broken tees hundreds of them when I played .

Excellent course, good condition and decent cafe to have a bite to eat after.
Lawrence C — Google review
A lovely course. One criticism - as first-time visitors it would have been helpful to have the next tee signposted along with numbered tee boxes. This would be a simple and cheap improvement that would make a big difference to anyone new to the course.

Historical place
Located in the heart of Ayr, The Wallace Tower has been a prominent feature since 1855. Its striking Gothic architecture, primarily constructed of asher stone, makes it a picturesque tourist attraction. While it used to serve as a drinking spot and later as Council Offices, visitors can still admire its beauty from the outside. Unfortunately, due to safety reasons, touring the tower is not possible beyond public access areas.
I think it's a great idea,to selebrate, scotlands history,as they do.there are lots of statues and nd ,building's dedicated to people and there roll on history.

Worth visiting - offers picturesque panorama above Stirling battle location, ellaborate information on William Wallace as well as prominent statesmen and some well preserved weaponry. The monument is quite unique in architectural sense!

Free parking and a nice little up hill path to the monument with carved sculptures along the way. Good views of the countryside from the monument and overlooks the battle field of Sterling Bridge

Cromwell's Citadel in Ayr is a historical site with modern swimming facilities. The citadel features three pools, including a 25m, 6-lane pool, a teaching pool, and a flexi pool with a moveable floor. These pools are equipped for various water-based activities and offer disabled access.
The Comonwealth artillery fort at Ayr was designed in 1652 by the chief engineer of the New Model Army Hans Ewald Tessin and for the age was a most accomplished work. It was completed in 1654 and sited at the junction of the Firth of Clyde and the outflow of the Ayr river. The forts main axis lay on a north/ south line. Its plan was larger than Edinburgh castle and took the form of a symmetrical elongated hexagon with a bastion at each angle, a floodable outer ditch was provided to the two landward fronts complete with -and protected by- a covered way with re-entrant place of arms, and a sloping earthwork glacis. Internally the large size of the fort allowed a raised centrally planned parade square, though termed "market place" in the original drawings. This was in turn fronted on three sides by carefully laid out ranges of buildings, mostly barracks but including administrative buildings and on the fourth side the 14th C St Johns Kirk was incorporated within the work. The fort could probably accommodate a garrison of up to one thousand men

Heads Of Ayr Farm Park is an enjoyable attraction with plenty of activities for all ages. Visitors can partake in various outdoor activities such as bumper boats, electric tractors, quad biking and trampolines. There are also several animals to interact with including alpacas, donkeys and Pygmy goats. Animal feed can be purchased at the entrance for those who wish to feed the animals. The park may not be suitable on rainy days as most of the activities take place outdoors.
I had a lot of fun! it was a beautiful day and most of the animals were enjoying the sunshine :) there's a big variety of animals around the park, and even goats & horses which you can feed. there's toilets and lots of benches/picnic tables. there's also lots of play areas for children, including a soft play indoors. there's also a place to buy food and drink.

Beautiful place for a day out with kids, not so far from glasgow, they have huge parking, very different kinda of kids play and entertainment like bouncy castles, toy train rides, boat ride, mini tractors , bike ride , big slides, zip lines etc. Also animals like llama, deer, kangaroo are the main attractions. Although it has the fee around 17 pounds, but worth it. Point to be noted that, many of the rides like train , boat, truck etc are not free or included in entry fee, need to pay separately.
Vikas J — Google review
Arrived only expecting to spend half a day. We ended up staying until close. Amazing farm with plenty to do for children and adults whether it was going on the amount of playgrounds they have to offer, or driving quad bikes and riding on the miniature railway. Plenty of spaces to sit down and have your packed lunch if you've brought some with you.

Fantastic family day out, came here with our 6 year old who had so much fun! There is so much included in the ticket price and then a few extra which are super affordable such as the train ride and quad bikes. The staff were super friendly and you could tell that they cared about the animals and the people visiting, the site was clean and well kept. Would highly recommend to anyone as it was a great day out!

This is a lovely farm park and a definite must visit! Well worth the money with loads of different animals as well as parks, tractors, mini train, and other fun activities like a mini tobogganing, zip line and trampolins! As well as a decent soft play which is out of sight so won't distract children from the animals. Make sure you grab a bag of animal feed!! Only one issue I have as a horsefield tortoise owner if anyone from the park see's this... he shouldn't be housed with another species as they will fight especially if either or both are males as they are more aggressive. I understand he's probably a rescue and you're probably aware of his underbite, hopefully this is something you are working on solving as this can cause problems eating. Just some small upgrades would massive improve his health and lifestyle, including a slate plate instead of plastic one to support keeping his beak trimmed, top soil as a substitute as they dig to regulate their body temperature, safe weeds and flowers are much more nutritious and you have plenty of land to beable to grow your own. My horsefield (Fluffy) loves pansy's! I honestly had a wonderful visit with my family during our holiday, and if we ever holiday again in the area we will definitely return.

Nice collection of kid-friendly animals (no big safari-style animals it's a bit smaller-scale than that). Some of the cages looked like they could have been a bit bigger but the animals looked in good condition at least. Plenty of indoor and outdoor play options and good cafes. Friendly staff and atmosphere all round.
Ben H — Google review
Absolutely love this place for a day out. Go for opening so you can get the most of the day. Entry is expensive. I think we where around £60 for 2 adults and 2 children. It is well worth it though. There are so many animals to see and you can buy feed for £2 a bag. The goats are my favourite but there are so many cuties (including alpacas which are actually at a field at the end of the car park outside so if you haven't used your animal food at closing you can go up and feed them when you leave). There are multiple different play parks for kids as well as a softplay area indoors and a shooting game thing. We always pack a lunch so we don't need to stop to go in to eat and usually eat on the wee benches next to the big slides and bouncy things. There are go karts too although we've never been on them since kids are too wee right now.
Laura F — Google review
A fantastic day out for the whole family! Hand feed animals, and there's plenty of them! Cheaper to book in advance online. I would recommend going as close to opening as possible as the afternoon got really busy. Not just animals there's plenty of activities for the kids like trampolines and adventure playgrounds

Art Museums
Rozelle House Museum and Galleries is a charming attraction located in rural Ayrshire. The historic Georgian mansion, built in 1760, houses an impressive collection of art including Henry Moore and Ronald Rae sculptures. The tearooms offer indoor and outdoor dining options, making it family and pet-friendly. Visitors can explore the Tam O'Shanter exhibition for insights into local stories or enjoy the Ladybird Exhibition showcasing nostalgic books.
Little hidden gem of Ayrshire, lots of wildlife in and surrounding the pond area and all the animals are very tame. The museum has lots of really interesting pieces and is a great way to spend time as the exhibitions change from time to time.

Parking, beautiful park! We only made it round the galleries, and some of the park. Lots to see and do. Cute cafe. Everything free including parking. We need to come back to see the rest.
Beka O — Google review
Gallery exhibitions and small museum inside the free-entry Rozelle House, 30-50min visit, various walks around the outdoor space with plenty of sculptures and wildlife, perhaps 1-2 hours worth. Car parking was reasonable, but could be difficult to find a space later in the day. About 5 picnic tables available in the courtyard.
Joshua T — Google review
Absolute gem of a place. I loved the Goudie exhibition of his Tam o'Shanter paintings. Quite captivating. Lovely tearoom and fabulous grounds. The staff are so lovely, and knowledgeable.
Jeff W — Google review
Located in a historic Georgian mansion that was built in 1760 by Robert Hamilton, a wealthy merchant who traded in sugar and tobacco from the West Indies. The house was originally built as a two-story mansion with low two-story pavilions, and the east wing was later extended as a stable-block. Rozelle House was remodelled by architect David Bryce in 1830. The tearooms are located in the lower ground of the house with additional outdoor patio dining. Family and very pet friendly. Rozelle House Tearooms are a hidden gem and well worth a visit. The club sandwich is brilliant and a small cup of homemade soup just tops it off nicely. The cakes are home-made and delicious. Sophie and crew are a real delight to be looked after by. The carrot cake is legendary, the empire biscuit a perennial favourite and the huge variety of iced cakes a feast for the eyes. The tea room serves not only tea, coffee and an array of the most delicious home baking but also offers lunch and special menus for children and drawing materials to keep the wee ones amused while the 'grown ups' enjoy some refreshment. The staff are friendly, helpful and consumate professionals. In summary, the Rozelle House Tearooms is a must-visit for anyone looking for a unique dining experience in a historic and cultural setting (Don't miss out on the art galleries and free Tam o' Shanter exhibition!) The perfect destination for a special occasion or a leisurely afternoon tea. I would highly recommend the Rozelle House Tearooms to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. Called in to fill in some time because the weather wasn't very good and was very pleasantly surprised - ended up being there for nearly 3 hours. Interesting temporary displays over the rooms on the ground floor re Fife Pageant and galleries were well worth a look.

A quirky gem in rural Ayrshire with its Henry Moore and 5 Ronald Rae sculptures (worked from granite blocks from Ayr harbour wall; here since 1979) as well as more local works linking to Burns stories. Cafe! When I visited for the Gordon Cockburn/Rae retrospective, the adjoining Maclaurin galleries had 3 Peter Howson works on show. And all free. (Bus or train an hour from Glasgow, but it is a brisk 1/2 hour walk to Rozelle - Alloway direction - from Ayr if you do not wait for a local bus)

The Book & Bun is a delightful establishment offering an inviting environment to enjoy a refreshing beverage and delectable pastries, while perusing their wide selection of affordably priced books. For those seeking an alternative to caffeine, their apple mint tea stands out as a remarkably flavorful option. The attentive and helpful staff strike the perfect balance between being accommodating and unobtrusive. Regrettably, my visit coincided with the last day of my vacation; otherwise, I would have eagerly returned.
What a lovely place for a drink and cake plus a browse at very reasonably priced books. I've to avoid caffeine at the moment on orders of the doc so was looking for an alternative. The apple mint tea was the best fruity one I have ever had! The lady here was extremely attentive and helpful without being overbearing. It's such a shame it is the last day of our holiday as we'd have been back.

Belleisle Park, located about 1.5 miles south of the city center, offers a variety of outdoor activities and attractions for visitors to enjoy. The park features expansive grounds with gardens, nature paths, and two popular 18-hole golf courses. Additionally, visitors can explore the Belleisle Conservatory, a glass-walled structure showcasing blooming plants year-round.
Just love this place, which holds very special memories while growing up, I used to go with my mum and then go with my children, and it was so very sad to see it run down and neglected. I went yesterday, and I was so happy to see it returning to its former glory! The conservatory returned to its beautiful self, with some amazing ladies keeping it in tip-top condition! Places like this MUST be supported by any means possible, poo in and buy a plant or some amazing honey 🍯 made by the amazing 🐝 🐝 and help support a great cause and this will help to keep memories going for years to come. Added bonus of a beautiful golf ⛳️ course, cafe, toilets, and amazing walks. Well done to everyone involved 👏

Beautiful, diverse, peaceful party of Ayr. The deer park was lovely, the allotments great and the conservatory interesting. There was plenty more to see but didn't have time to get around it all. Stunning ancient trees were my favourite.

Such a nice place to visit. The walled gardens near the conservatory are really nice. The kids loved the playground as it has lots of play equipment for all ages. It can be found just to the side of the walled garden.

Brilliant play park, enough to entertain both younger kids (swings / small trampoline, smaller slides / sensory area) and older kids (climbing frames / big slides / zip line). Lovely greenhouse and walled garden next door, and cafe with toilets nearby as well. Big huge grassy lawn great for football or a run around too.

Very nice place for kids to visit. Play the area. My kids loved jukebox, restaurant, and deer park nearby. I got confused via car navigation as it takes to golf course, which is just beside Belleisle Park, the parking is at the same place/connected.

Beautiful Park - very well kept gardens and vintage greenhouse . Good for dog walks and children with the play park. Just need to be careful of the golfers. Only thing that is a shame is the old house was set on fire same as the station hotel. Ayr is losing its history and heritage due to as far as I can see, the poor management of the council. Still a lovely spot though.

If you're looking for a place where little adventurers can unleash their creativity, Mini-Town in Ayr, Scotland is the perfect destination. This spacious indoor role-play center encourages children to explore various professions like doctors, firefighters, and hairstylists in a safe and engaging environment. As they dive into imaginative play, kids not only have fun but also discover their interests and potential. On another note, if you’re seeking support for anxiety or trauma recovery, Alan Currie offers transformative solutions through modern hypnosis.
I had 3 sessions with Alan and what can i say but WOW! I was very dubious about going but Alan was very welcoming and easy to talk to. He explained everything that was going to happen in detail to keep me calm as I was nervous about being hypnotised. Thanks to Alan's expertise I am now 12 weeks smoking free and feel for the first time, after many attempts, that I have achieved my goal! Sincere thanks from the bottom of my heart Alan as I couldn't have done it without you.
Alison H — Google review
After struggling with anxiety for many years I contacted Alan after a recommendation from a friend. Alan was incredible, I felt at ease straight away and felt as if I was chatting with an old friend. He explained the process in detail and helped me to understand why I had been feeling the way I had for so long. The hypnosis process was wonderful and I left unable to stop smiling. One session with Alan has truly changed my mindset and gave me a feeling of peacefulness that I never thought I would have again. I can't thank him enough for making such a massive difference to my life.
Stephanie M — Google review
Booked an appointment for my partner after trying different types of help to overcome his issues and this one has definitely been the most successful. Alan make you feel at ease with his friendly and understanding demeanor and doesn't hurry you for time or extend session when it's not needed. I would and have recommended Alan's Hypnotherapy to help people get to the root of their problems and overcome them.

Go for it, you won’t regret it! I had a session with Alan at the beginning of November and held off writing a review till now as I wanted to see if the effects were long lasting….. Well, I can honestly say that this is THE best thing I have ever done for myself. Alan is fantastic, he has good energy, is kind, caring, knowledgeable and does not judge. He puts you at ease straight away and explains the whole process thoroughly. I have never been hypnotised before and didn’t know what to expect, but I was ready to exorcise my demons and decided to just go with the flow. It was the most relaxing therapeutic session, I left feeling like the weight of the world had been lifted from my shoulders. It was amazing! AND 3 weeks later I can honestly say I feel even better now than I did that day. I’m still me, but I’m much more, relaxed, happy, content, free… I would recommend to anyone thinking about contacting Alan to just do it, bite the bullet, give him a call, text or e-mail. Start your journey, you really won’t regret it!
Karen D — Google review
I contacted Alan for advice on the fact that I had a terrible diet coke habit. I felt like this was really trivial but it was starting to affect my health and was costing me a fortune. Alan immediately put me at ease and never once made me feel like my problem wasn't worthy of his help. At my appointment he explained everything and I loved the experience. My appointment was 6 weeks ago and I have not had a diet coke since.....I never thought I'd be able to do that. Alan's aftercare was also amazing and he was very quick to respond to any questions. Highly recommend.
Kathryn W — Google review
I contacted Alan to see if he could help my son with his anxiety issues related to travelling and motion sickness. I was immediately impressed by his positivity and attitude towards our issue. He explained everything beforehand and was quick to answer any questions. During the session itself, he made my son feel very relaxed and comfortable. The difference now is night and day. Travelling for us before was always a difficult thing to do, now, his anxiety is almost gone and we can actually plan trips. Highly recommended, thank you Alan.
Laura C — Google review
Alan was recommended to me by a friend. Initially I was nervous and unsure what to expect, however Alan soon put me at ease with his professional manner. I came away from the sessions feeling relaxed and confident that I could shape my future the way I wanted . I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Alan’s services to anyone feeling overwhelmed with any problems they may have.

Went to Alan 4 weeks ago had a lot of issues had to sort out. It was my 1st time going to Alan he explained what modern hypnosis was & how he could help me then we chatted for a while about my issues & how he was going to help. I’ve never felt so relaxed when I was in a hypnotic state my problems/fears made me feel I was in control & @ one point I was actually giggling that I put myself through torture for nothing what a waste of good energy. When Alan ended my session I felt like the weight of the world was off my shoulders 😊 Decided I’m going back to Alan to help me stop smoking & i’m very confident he will help me. Ayr Bus Station provides regular bus services connecting it to the town of Prestwick. The area boasts unique shops, restaurants, and numerous bar diners. Visitors can also enjoy indoor tennis, a long sandy beach, and a large indoor kids' play area. One of the main highlights is the historic Prestwick Golf Club located in the town center near the train station. Additionally, travelers have noted positive experiences with friendly bus drivers when using this transportation hub.
While the bus station is awful to wait in, no shelter, waiting room, loos or adequate electronic notice boards....a very big thank you to the traffic controller who stopped me missing the Irish ferry bus today. He realised I was at the usual stand and it had pulled in elsewhere.
Jenny H — Google review
Man working at the station directing coaches was yelling at pedestrians for crossing at the pedestrian crossing, particularly more aggressive with the elderly ladies just trying to cross the street. he was continuously yelling to the pedestrians aggressively to hurry up and shouting to them from across the station even when there was no busses coming or going. i understand the job is to make entry to the station clear for busses but he was in no way polite to anybody! Very rude man I feel sorry for anyone who has to go near that station when he is working
Katie E — Google review
It's a dump. No-one to assist where you are going. Bays no details. Just have to await the electric buses firing up to see where they are going. Most buses don't even appear to go from the station. A real proper let down for Ayr
David H — Google review
Very frustrated with my experience here. Wanted to catch a bus to Culzean castle, was told there would be one at 12:50 departing from stand 6. Was told stand 6 by 2 different workers, and even had the stagecoach app on my phone that stated stand 6. I get there 10 min before departure, standing right infront of stand 6. There is a signboard that has the bus number and departure times by stand 6. Gets to 2 mins before departure and bus not there. I go up to worker I had spoken to before, and she points to a bus pulling off onto the street, telling me I missed it and it had departed from stand 2. No explanation, just said I would have to wait an hour for the next one. Very unhelpful and complete waste of time.

I asked the Info Desk Chap where the coach to Belfast stops at. His only response was 'The other side'. The only reason I knew where to stand was asking a man who I found out was also heading to Belfast; taking his son to see Linfield.

Went here on the way to the Coldplay concert, woman was extremely friendly and allowed a friend to try the chicken doner as he said it looked nice. Food was lovely and fresh, would definitely recommend.
Rory G — Google review
Shop seemed very clean upon walking in, and the staff whom I spoke to seemed very friendly. 😊 Got a doner hoggie wrap, a half double pepperoni half cheese pizza, and a stuffed crust doner and Jalapenos pizza 🍕. The double pepperoni side of the half and half pizza couldn't really be described as "double" anything. As you can see in the picture there were only 6 pieces on. The pizza itself was alright though. The stuffed crust doner and jalapenos was so much better! Really loaded full of doner meat, and the stuffed crust tasted amazing too 👌. The wrap was really really nice, but just seemed a bit small compared to other ones I've had. Can't knock the flavour of it though. Tasty. I ordered a seperate pot of garlic sauce, but it turns out they come as standard with the pizzas which is a good perk. Ended up with 3 🤣 Wish they had chips, cheese, and doner on the menu but couldn't seem to find it.

Drove by this place loafs so thought I would give it a go. Never again. Ordered a munchies box. Chicken pakora was soggy as if it was done in the microwave, ordered salad it never came, onion rings were also missing. Some of the chips were still raw. Never again.

I ordered a King Size Chicken and Donnor Hoogie Wrap, I was given a large box of chips, cheese, and shredded style chicken. No naan bread or wrap and no Donnor. Along the way, visitors can admire detailed sculptures related to Burns' literary works. The pathway also offers access to attractions such as the restored conservatory and walled gardens, providing an enriching experience for those interested in Scottish literature and history.

Very nice and educative pathway connected to Robert Burns and his poetic masterpieces. The sculptures are elaborated but funny at the same time. Perhaps a better description would be an added value especially for those who are not from Scotland and hence not much familiar with Robert Burns. But overall would recommend a walk here and taking some photos.

Nice wee point of interest between the Burns' museum and the Burns' cottage. Rozelle Estate is a breathtaking 37-acre haven nestled in South Ayrshire, making it a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Ayr. This enchanting estate boasts an array of attractions, including a museum and art gallery, all set against the backdrop of stunning country grounds. Nature enthusiasts will delight in the diverse wildlife that calls this park home, with birds like collared doves and blue tits flitting about among the lush woodlands.
Nice place for a day out. There is an art gallery with paintings for sale or just to see. Hungry? Grab a nice light lunch at the tea room. Very tasty sandwiches, wraps, or paninis. And the cakes are amazing, with specialty teas and coffee. Go for a long or short walk and take in the sights at the scenic park. Feed the squirrels and birds and see some of the art displayed on the grounds.

A lovely estate and house. An exhibition of Tam O'Shanter, military items and a massive post card collection. A tea room has delicious food served by great staff. Disabled parking by the front door and a lift. Easiest to enter the lift by the back through the Court yard. There are some interesting very old trees. A visit is recommended.

Beautiful place, I had a great time with my friend. We went on Sunday, the restaurant wasn't busy so we walked in. The pasta was really good. If you like to have afternoon tea book it before a day.

Rozelle Park situated in South Ayr is a beautiful public park that is well worth a visit. The park has a museum and art galley that is free to enter. The park has many wicker and stone sculptures in the museum gardens, The crowning glory of the park is the remembrance garden that has many wood carvings of the first and second world wars.

Lovely museum and gallery with surrounding parklands. Sculptures outside. Free admission. Good café with a reasonably priced choice. Visited Rozelle twice this week plus the dog loved it.

This scenic walkway was inspired by the Scottish mile mentioned in the poem and spans the seafront, offering locals and visitors an opportunity for healthy exercise. The area near Burns' birthplace in Alloway has been renamed to honor this connection.

Lovely place, you're greeted with 2 big chimneys and a large warehouse type building when you enter the car park, which is quite impressive. The staff were really friendly, particularly the woman who was working in the cafe who kept coming over to see our new baby. Nice food on offer in the cafe, too. Lorn sausage and bacon sandwiches, sweet treats, crisps, pop, etc. Our little boy enjoyed colouring in the free pictures. The train journey itself was quite short, but the views of the hills were worth the trip alone. We visited during a classic car show so there was some nice old classics to look at, especially an old 1600 escort. Lovely day out, highly recommend visiting.

I’m Just back from a cracking visit to Doon Valley Railway — what a brilliant morning out! I went solo, and honestly, it was spot on. From the moment I arrived, the volunteers were welcoming and clearly knew their stuff. The engines are beautifully kept, and there’s something special about hearing that whistle and feeling the rumble under your feet as you trundle through the countryside. It’s a proper throwback experience — no frills, no fuss, just pure railway nostalgia done right. Plenty to see, interesting little displays, and a great café to grab a cuppa after the ride (and maybe a cheeky cake). It’s located in a semi derelict old brick works, which adds to its industrial charm! I’d say everyone, near and far, needs to get themselves to Doon Valley Railway and support this brilliant heritage line. It’s a proper hidden gem, and you’ll leave feeling chuffed to bits! I’m even tempted to become a volunteer here myself! 🚂

We were at the season finale on a warm, sunny Sunday. We visited the museum, café, shop, and vintage car exhibition. We had a wonderful experience travelling on an old train! Follow the events on their website, bring your children, and you will have a great time. The people who work and volunteer there are extremely friendly!

Visited this little gem of a place today, small museum was free entry and it didn't cost much for a short ride on one off the steam engines. Very interesting. Great staff that are all volunteers which is amazing

Diesel engine, was supposed to be steam. Only drove 500metres backwards then 500metres forwards. Tea room was the best bit.

Visited with tour group from Australia on the 30th of August 2025 A wonderful experience with our volunteers at the railway with a trip on the train and a tour of the engine and other sheds. Then to top it off a great lunch put on by the ladies with food that was so filling and tasty.

I had never heard of the Doon Valley Railway until I read recent press coverage regarding their efforts to secure funding to keep this absolute gem of a place running in its current fashion. I'm so glad that we chose to visit and, in a small way, add some support to keep this wonderful little venue going. Having used the website to pre-book tickets for the steam train, we visited on a Sunday morning. Although there were already people in attendance at the time we arrived, there were no lengthy queues to contend with, and the volunteer staff were friendly and patient; the absence of queues and demeanour of the staff were an absolute blessing for us as we have a child with autism. My sons were both incredibly excited when they realised they were getting a chance to ride on a steam train! Seating on the train is limited due to the size of the carriages used and so, booking for the train in advance is an absolute must. It's a relatively short journey through the picturesque Ayrshire countryside, with something of a narrative of the history of the site, rolling stock, etc provided by one of the volunteers manning the train. Following the return journey on the steam train, my boys were delighted to get the chance to activate the train whistle and again, the staff on site were very helpful and patient. Within the museum area, you will find trains and artefacts related to the history of the site and the industrial heritage of the area generally. In addition, there is a wonderful little model train exhibition which the staff were kind enough to let my sons operate. The site itself was formerly part of the Dunaskin Ironworks, and many of the disused buildings that wouldn't look out of place on an episode of 'Abandoned Engineering' still loom large over the area. The chimneys of the site are immediately apparent on approach to the area. The cafe on site is well provisioned with an array of cakes, sandwiches, cold drinks, coffee, etc. The gift shop, as one might expect, is full of train-related merchandise, from books and DVDs, to the usual souvenirs and toys for the kids. A visit to the site itself is FREE, it is only the train ride that comes at a cost. For anyone interested in local history or trains, or have kids that adore trains, a visit to the Doon Valley Railway is an absolute must.

I took my girls and their mum for their first time on a steam train. They where very excited and we weren't disappointed. Can't wait to go back when the museum is finished
