Villa del Balbianello is a captivating 18th-century villa located in Lenno, on the picturesque Lake Como. Originally built by Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini, it has been home to various wealthy families and notable figures throughout history. The villa boasts a splendid loggia offering enchanting views and is adorned with breathtaking frescoes and charming gardens. Its former owner, adventurer Guido Monzino, enriched it with an exclusive art collection and artifacts from his global expeditions.
Famous from Hollywood-movies this gorgeous villa and surrounding gardens are a must visit when visiting Lake Como. We took the guides tour inside the Villa which was very fascinating. It was very hot and crowded in gardens however, so would recommend to visit off-season and make sure to buy your tickets in advance.
Victor B — Google review
A beautiful estate with a fascinating walk to and from the site. Definitely touristy but absolutely worth the visit. Be aware: Google’s “mostly flat” description is misleading—you’ll need to tackle some uphill sections, so bring good shoes.
Alexander S — Google review
Very beautiful and pristine villa. Everything is very manicured and clean. It is about a 2km walk from the Leno ferry terminal. Definitely some gradients so wear comfortable shoes. This villa is home to famous scenes in Star Wars and also James Bond Casino Royale.
Falene C — Google review
We’ve photographed several pre-wedding shoots at Villa del Balbianello, and every single time it feels like a dream. The views over Lake Como are breathtaking, and the villa itself is pure magic. In spring, the wisteria blooms beautifully across the villa, creating an even more enchanting atmosphere. Every corner is photogenic, from the iconic terrace overlooking the lake to the lush gardens. It’s truly one of the most incredible locations in Italy for a photoshoot.
Peter P — Google review
Such an incredible place to visit if you are going to Lago di Como, I would suggest buying the tickets in advance so you can skip the wait, bring comfortable shoes, I wouldn’t recommend heels or anything like that if you do want to enjoy the most hidden places here. Very clean, it takes about 2-3 hours so see and enjoy most of the villa! Is a must!
Karen A — Google review
One word – magnificent. I recommend buying tickets in advance to avoid waiting. We arrived at 10 a.m. and waited about 20 minutes in line. The villa opens at 10:00 a.m. They allow only a limited number of visitors inside, which is great because it’s not overcrowded. The ticket costs €14.
Natalia V — Google review
Beautiful Villa... Looked stunning in Casino Royale! In person so much more!!! Tour is a must do to understand the last owner.. ended up buying the book about him. A must visit if in the area.
Paul J — Google review
Magnificent experience. No words to describe the views here! Do not miss this on your visit to Como. There is about a 25 min walk of up and down driveway (some paved & some gravel), might be hard for some who are not able to walk far distances. The walk is well worth the work however!

Villa Carlotta is a stunning 17th-century villa located on the shores of Lake Como, near the Grand Hotel Tremezzo. The villa boasts beautiful gardens and a remarkable botanical park with an impressive variety of rhododendrons and azaleas. Commissioned by Marquis Giorgio II Clerici, it features a neoclassical style with works by renowned artists such as Canova, Tiepolo, and Hayez.
Took the train to Varenna, then the boat and got off at Lenno. From Lenno we hiked to the villa following the lake shore (approx 4 km) This is a great hike, easy to make and not exhaustive. The only caveat is that there is a section of the hike that follows the road. Visited on Monday. Started with the gardens as there was a storm cloud on the lake and wanted to cover the gardens and move inside if the rain moved onto the place. The gardens are extensive and beautiful. The rhododendrons were in peak bloom (mid May). The Villa itself is also impressive, well curated and maintained. Overall a great small museum as a time capsule ot a different era. The cafeteria has gelato, panini and excellent beer. What else do you need beyond that. We entered the museum at 3:00 pm and left just after 6:pm. The combined ticket for the gardens and the villa is €15/p. Good value.
Anguel C — Google review
Nice museum with several exhibits. Also has gorgeous views of lake como. There is also a restaurant to grab some lunch. It was not crowded when we visited also there was no line to buy tickets. Worthwhile visiting the villa.
Jayasimha N — Google review
An absolute architectural, botanical and historical marvel of the last 500 years. The grounds of the villa are absolutely gorgeous - fountains sculptures, and perfectly manicured floral heaven. The garden is truly remarkable with how much variety of plants there are and also the way it's been maintained. For the building itself, nothing short of extraordinary - the design and architecture is impressive. There is so much history and craftsmanship behind this place.
Alexander M — Google review
Inside and out Villa Carlotta was a joy to visit. We loved the art work inside the villa. Be sure o look up as many of the rooms are adorned with frescos and or reliefs. The grounds are a botanical wonder with species brought in from around the world.
John V — Google review
I have no words. Grand, classy, green. Bamboo plants, very tropical. The great beauty of a sea of over 150 species of plants. All this is combined with the view of Lake Como, which is open from almost every point of Villa Carlotta. Very good restaurant.
Vladimir G — Google review
Must see! Great place to visit, beatiful inside, many sculpture, paintings few rooms with furniture with very great conditions. Amaizing garden around, it takes 2-3 hours to visit and see all villa and garden. Beautyful view from balcony for Como lake.
Arkadiusz K — Google review
Villa Carlotta was beautiful (the villa, gardens, and views) and informative. I decided to get the audio guide as well and I'm very happy I did. It made walking through the gardens more immersive and, at some points, even had me emotional. The gardens can be strenuous in certain points from multiple steps and steeper climbs but the shade provided a lot of nice cover from the hot Italian sun. Additionally, the property has three different routes available: whole, quick, and wheelchair accessible. The Villa itself is full of history and allows you to see artworks and historical preservation. Will be a historical place I visit again next time I am in Lake Como.
Sam H — Google review
Great place to visite. We even met a nice photographer who offer us free service. The villa is very BIG. Take your time to visit. Maybe 3 hours for everything. Most of the visit part is in the garden. They also have absolutely nice views.

Villa Monastero is a historic waterfront mansion located in the Province of Lecco, boasting terraced gardens adorned with statues. The villa is a major attraction due to its rich history, picturesque landscape, and various services offered on the premises. The House Museum within the estate showcases opulent 1800s decor across 14 fully furnished rooms, providing visitors with an immersive experience. Additionally, the villa houses a renowned Conference Centre that has hosted physics lessons by Nobel Prize winner Enrico Fermi.
Beautiful villa with awesome picture opportunities along the lakeside. The garden is very beautiful. Staff is great. We had tickets and were standing in the line, upon showing them to staff they let us through the side. The staff at the museum was also great, showing us what the best route was etc. parking on the other side of the street is good (for Lake Como standards :))
Nick — Google review
The gardens are absolutely stunning and the views of Lake Como are unreal — definitely a must-visit for photo lovers! Dress cute, this place is made for dreamy pics. We bought tickets online and skipped the line. The villa interior isn’t super impressive, but the outdoor beauty makes it 100% worth it.
Gabriella G — Google review
Easily one of the most beautiful places I've been. There was a crowd (we visited in September), but it was manageable and didn't bother us too much. Entry was quick and efficient and for 7 euro (13 for regular entry but still) you get access to arguably the most gorgeous views you would have seen in your life.
Teo N — Google review
This is truely a lovely villa. The setting on the north end of Varenna is perfectly quiet. Property is between the road and Lake Como allowing for a magical stroll along the water. The property seemed a little worn. After a couple of days of train the paths suffered from large puddles making passage distracting on some portions. Other features were closed for repairs. The house was a treat and more intimate than some of the other villas we visited. Be sure to visit the exhibit room under the where you'll get your tickets and enter property. They have a fine audio and visual show that allows you to chose topics on the family and property history of the villa as well as the garden and it's flora. We visited in the second half of September but I can imagine Villa Monastero in blume is just amazing.
John V — Google review
nice place. if you want to walk through the garden, it is worth spending 2 hours. there is a queue at the popular places to take pictures and you can't even look at it if you don't wait. difficult with a stroller. It's worth going in the morning, there's no line, there are fewer people

This is the most beautiful place I have ever been on Earth and I mean that. Wow just wow. The gardens are incredibly stunning and well kept and I probably took hundreds of photos here. Do not skip this place if you are in Varenna and spend some time here I promise it’s worth it!!! So much gorgeous scenery it felt like I was inside a pinterest board. If you are walking here from where the ferry drops you off make sure to walk along the path right next to the water with the red fence for some of the best views of the lake and then at the end head up one of the streets/stairs to get to the villa entrance.
Eleanor H — Google review
We had a fabulous day at Villa Monastero, where every inch felt intentionally designed and beautifully maintained. The atmosphere was serene and tranquil, with stunning architecture all around—the elegant pillars, soaring arches, and vibrant flower displays made it a feast for the eyes. We visited in mid-June, when the temperature reached 34°C, yet there were plenty of shaded spots to pause and enjoy the scenery. One of our favourite moments was sitting at a picnic bench under the shade, having some snacks while taking in the spectacular lake views. The café on site offers refreshments, and there is one toilet for each gender. Both were beautifully prepared and spotless, which was a welcome detail. The combination of breathtaking views, peaceful atmosphere, and architectural beauty made Villa Monastero a truly memorable experience. It’s the kind of place where you can slow down, breathe, and simply enjoy the beauty of Lake Como. Kids go free

I Giardini di Villa Melzi, located in Bellagio, Italy, is a stunning botanical garden surrounding the 19th-century neo-classical mansion of Villa Melzi d'Eril. The garden features picturesque trails, statues, pavilions, and breathtaking views of Lake Como. While the villa itself is not open to the public, visitors can explore the serene botanical gardens and capture its beauty through leisurely strolls or specialized tours.
This place is mesmerizing. Happy by just walking around the garden and taking few pictures. There are two exits. You can go out and return by asking the staff to stamp on your wrist. There’s entrance near the port, very easy to walk to this place. We did not buy the ticket in advance since we saw the notice in the booking website that we need to be in line to get ticket anyway. Luckily, there was no queue, I believe because we visited during weekday in the afternoon (Oct 6). Not too many people there. Recommend!
Kamolrat C — Google review
It’s a very beautiful garden right on the lake. I don’t mind paying 10€ just to walk through the park because it does take some work to maintain the garden. It’s a nice place, there’s a museum too. However you cannot enter the main villa and it’s just not that amazing overall. It’s still a great place to be away from the touristy centro of Bellagio
K C — Google review
Nice place to stroll in Bellagio! The garden is super well-kept and even has tropical plants like banana trees 🍌🍌🍌 Great for photos, an afternoon walk, or just to chill after lunch. Worth a visit if you’re around!
Arliska R — Google review
Beautiful place for a 45-60 minute walk, to have the full experience. Nice walking paths along the garden with various plants and trees. All this goes along the Como lake waterfront.

Opening hours are daily 10 am to 6:30 pm. The gardens are closed in the winter time. In 2025 it will close on Oct 31st and will reopen in March 2026. Cost is 10€ you buy tickets at the gates. 2 gates entry one on each side. Located in the town of Bellagio on lake como. Parking is limited as the town of Bellagio is very popular in the summer.
Carine — Google review
The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and so well cared for. Everywhere you look, there’s beautiful greenery and an incredible variety of trees. It’s such a peaceful, stunning place to walk through. If you’re visiting Bellagio, this is a must see. I highly recommend making time for a visit.
Nancy A — Google review
Gorgeous gardens with different small hiding places and paths. Beautiful scenery, amazing views, you can really unwind and soothe your soul here. If you're into gardens you can't miss this one. If you're not so much into gardens, you should still visit this one.
Snowbird . — Google review
Villa Melzi is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. The gardens are immaculate, peaceful, and filled with stunning colors, especially in spring. Every path reveals something new—ancient trees, vibrant flowers, classical statues, and breathtaking views of the lake. The atmosphere is serene and elegant, perfect for a relaxing stroll or quiet reflection. The neoclassical villa adds a timeless charm, and the small museum and chapel offer fascinating historical insight. The combination of nature, art, and history is truly unique. It felt like walking through a living painting.

It has been a playground for VIPs with exclusive boutiques and yacht clubs set against picturesque villages. The area has inspired artists and intellectuals throughout history due to its diverse cuisine, natural beauty, and international cultural heritage.
Beautiful place very busy, but you didn't feel pushed. Plenty of places to eat, drink and sit and admire the scenery. Easy to get to from Milan got train 30ish minutes and £27 for two.

Lovely place, lots of tourists but still managed to retain it's charm. We took a train from Milan with a ferry trip included, this was well worth it and we did the tour on the ferry rather than get on get off as we wanted to still have time for Lake Como town before returning to Milan

Absolutely Beautiful and Peaceful! Lake Como is an amazing place to visit. The views are stunning, with mountains, clear blue water, and charming towns all around the lake. It’s a perfect spot to relax, explore, and enjoy nature. The atmosphere is peaceful, the food is delicious, and the people are friendly. sadly when we visited the villa was being renovated, but the gardens are beautiful, there are ample benches overlooking the lake and honestly the views up the lake are worth going for alone! look out for the water-planes taking off right in front of the villa, they're brilliant!!

A beautiful villa right in front of the lake. Didn't go to the villa but just sightseeing the park and the lake. The park is wide and beautiful, suitable to picnic or just to stroll around. It's suitable to got there on one-day trip from Milan, to experience different ambience. There is public toilet too, it's moderately clean but smelly.

Parco di Villa Serbelloni is a must-see attraction in Bellagio, offering hillside gardens adorned with exotic plants and statues along paths that overlook Lake Como. Situated on a steep promontory separating the lake's branches, it holds historical significance as the location of Pliny the Younger's villa called Tragoedia.
We enjoyed a fantastic visit to the park wary May. Paula our guide was brilliant, she gave us a brilliant walking tour in both English and Italian and included fascinating history of the lake as well as the Villa Serbelloni. A beautiful tour which we would recommend to anyone visiting, one of the few places that you can see both legs of the lake. Breathtaking views. A small group visiting the Villa gardens with us made a big difference. Only two tours happen per day 11 and 15. Best to book in advance online to secure your spot.

Very nice small piazza at the end of Bellagio high up from the main street. A few good cafes and one church makes this piazza a pleasant place to visit. Colino1861 recommended ✅️
Colin W — Google review
Not worth the visit at all. Obliged to be on an endless, boring guided tour, with nothing special to see in the park besides a few lake views that don't compete with other places in the area. In terms of parks Villa Carlotta is 20 times better
Marie B — Google review
A walk through the park, there are no spectacular plants to see, only views. The walk should take a maximum of 45 minutes, it lasts over 2 hours, more standing and listening to stories in 3 languages, a lady guide, unfortunately you won't learn anything interesting that isn't on the internet, after a 15 minute stop and walk 100 meters, another stop for 10 minutes and so on. It's worth coming for the views alone, but it's a waste of 2 hours. I recommend it especially for seniors, more standing than sightseeing. It could call a state in the park rather than a trip around the park. an exceptionally slow and boring tour, if it were only an hour long it would be worth recommending, but the guide forcibly extends it to 2 hours.

Place is amazing and views are stunning, guide excellent and super well prepared. A definite must. Assolutamente da non perdere

Beautiful venue for a wedding. Large, various rooms, and a beautiful water backdrop. For weddings it’s a bit hard to find everybody into a room so people are spread out. The rocks around the area make it slightly difficult for walking, and temperatures inside can reach 90+. There’s no WiFi for the venue and the bathroom is on the second floor so for those who need accessibility, it might be difficult. Still a beautiful and stunning venue for a banquet or wedding.

A fantastic venue for any MICE program. I attended a business event here and was impressed by the modern and spacious rooms, abundance of natural light, and variety of spaces suitable for any type of event. There were two separate large business events happening simultaneously, yet there was no overlap of attendees. The original Villa is an ideal location for photo shoots, weddings, and gala dinners. I can envision hosting a conference followed by a gala dinner conveniently in the same venue. The rooms are rich in history and beautifully decorated, conductive for a memorable experience. Even the surrounding grounds and the stunning views of the lake just a few steps away would enhance any MICE program and ensure its success. Highly recommended to the MICE planner.

Not open to public, unless there is a conference or exhibiton. But it is recommended as a must-go in this area on Internet. It should be marked as private so we don't waste time.

I feel it’s important to share my recent experience at Villa Erba, which unfortunately was very negative. As an international visitor, I had always heard of Villa Erba’s reputation as a beautiful and prestigious location, well known for weddings and events. My partner and I were genuinely looking forward to seeing it in person. We arrived through the main entrance, which was open and had no clear signage suggesting restricted access. Believing in good faith that it was acceptable to step in for a brief look, we entered. That’s when we encountered a staff member named Alex. We explained politely that we did not have a reservation and were ready to leave. Due to the entrance layout, we needed to move slightly forward before exiting. Instead of handling the situation with professionalism or courtesy, Alex’s reaction was extremely aggressive. He was smoking, speaking in a hostile tone, and making insulting remarks toward both myself and my partner. What could have been a simple, respectful exchange quickly turned into outright harassment. This left us shocked and deeply uncomfortable, particularly my partner, who found the encounter quite upsetting. Given Villa Erba’s status and reputation, this behavior came as a complete surprise. Rather than feeling welcome or respected, we felt humiliated and intimidated — the exact opposite of what one would expect from such a historic and elegant venue. We documented the incident here, including a photograph of the staff member, and are considering further reporting to local authorities if necessary. No visitor should ever leave an encounter at Villa Erba feeling this way. It’s a real shame, because Villa Erba is stunning and carries so much history. But unfortunately, the lack of hospitality and the unprofessional way we were treated by a staff member has overshadowed its beauty for us. I truly hope the management takes this matter seriously, as no future guest or curious visitor should ever experience the same kind of hostility we did.

In 2012, I had the distinct pleasure of visiting Villa Erba, an iconic gem nestled on the serene shores of Lake Como. This venue embodies the pinnacle of luxury, set against a backdrop of breathtaking beauty and architectural grandeur. Every aspect of Villa Erba exudes elegance, from its meticulously landscaped gardens to the opulent interiors that speak volumes of its storied past. The location itself is unparalleled, offering tranquil lake views that captivate and inspire. Whether for events or a personal getaway, Villa Erba does not just meet expectations; it transcends them. During my visit, there was not a single detail amiss. The staff performed their roles with a professionalism and courtesy that enhanced the overall experience, making it truly unforgettable. Villa Erba represents the essence of Italian luxury and charm, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking a venue that is both visually stunning and rich in comfort. I can wholeheartedly recommend this magnificent villa for any prestigious event or a peaceful retreat in the lap of luxury.

The Botanical Garden of Villa Carlotta is a renowned attraction in Tremezzo, known for its enchanting lakeside garden that captivates visitors with its Alice in Wonderland-like charm. The expansive and well-maintained grounds feature a diverse array of exotic plants, trees, artificial waterfalls, and springs. Visitors can enjoy spectacular views of Lake Como from the hilltop adorned with olive trees. The paved paths make it accessible for all ages to explore the garden at their own pace.
I liked this place more than all the others. If I could visit only one villa and garden on Lake Como, I would choose Carlotta. HUGE very beautiful territory, nature lovers will be delighted. There is where to walk and where to sit and admire the views. There is no crowd, visitors calmly wander around the botanical garden and do not interfere with each other

Beautiful gardens. The gardens are multifaceted and has many well developed areas and trees. Very steep climbing in some sections but the paths are good. The Villa is great and a nice museum.

Incredible garden filled with a wide range of plants and trees—beautifully maintained and full of variety. Absolutely stunning. A perfect place to wander, enjoy the greenery, and soak up the gorgeous views of Lake Como.

I did the longest trail in the Villa Carlotta gardens twice in one day. First with my camera, second just to take it all in. Totally worth it. Every corner has its own vibe, and the views over Lake Como are amazing. If you can, go when it’s less crowded, there’s a quiet magic here that’s easy to miss in the noise.

Great place to spend an hour or two. Lots of up and down walking like anywhere in Lake Como but take your time and enjoy. The views from the villa are spectacular.

This was one of my favorite things I visited during my time to Lake Como area in Italy. I found the pretty gate that was the soul inspiration for my visit here and saw it last year on Facebook. I saw it in person!

Great flowers and museum. Pretty buggy audio tour. Horrible WiFi. All things considered I'd go back for the flowers and the museum exhibit in the basement. Note Bene: there was one section of the gardens (Valle Della Felce) that made me immediately and intensely feel like I was in a rainforest (a.k.a. jungle).

Villa Melzi D'Eril is a must-visit attraction in Bellagio, known for its stunning gardens designed in the early 1800s by architect Luigi Canonica and botanist Luigi Villoresi. The English-style gardens boast exotic trees, camellias, rhododendrons, and azaleas, as well as a picturesque Japanese pond with water lilies and cedar trees.
📍 Villa Melzi d’Eril – Bellagio, Lake Como, Italy 🇮🇹 A beautiful historic villa with elegant lakeside gardens 🌿🌸 stretching along Lake Como’s shore. While the villa itself isn’t open to visitors, the gardens are the main highlight—perfect for a relaxing walk 🚶‍♂️ among exotic trees, statues, and flowers with stunning lake and mountain views 🌊🏔️. Peaceful, well-maintained, and less crowded than central Bellagio, it feels like a serene escape. A must-visit for garden and nature lovers. 🙌

Great place with only one mixed toilet facility. For the ticket prices you only see the gardens, the museums are a stretch. You pay for the views of the lake which you can see everywhere. Of all the villas we've visited this one is the least i liked. Gardens 5/5 Views 5/5 Toilet Facilities 0/5 Museums 1/5 Villa ( Not Accessible )
Michael S — Google review
The gardens are beautiful. Keep in mind that you cannot enter the villa itself, however when visiting Bellagio, and would like a quiet change of pace, this is the place to go. The ferry's leaving Bellagio to Menaggio or Varenna are very long (at least it was in mid/end of May so who knows how much more busier in July- Aug), long, so plan accordingly if you need to get to another place for a specific time.

One of the most beautiful gardens I've ever visited, with interesting and well-maintained botanical species. Perfect for watching the sunset over Lake Como. It was a shame we couldn’t visit the villa inside.

We photographed a pre-wedding shoot at Villa Melzi on Lake Como, and it was absolutely magical. The gardens are full of history and charm, with stunning views over the lake and mountains. The SUNSET light there is just incredible : soft, romantic, and perfect for capturing timeless moments. Villa Melzi is truly one of the most beautiful spots on Lake Como for a photoshoot.

The views here are spectacular, with the lake’s shimmering waters, elegant villas, and the Alps rising dramatically in the background. The private boat ride across the lake added a special touch, gliding past historic estates and vibrant gardens, making the experience feel timeless and romantic :) More than just a scenic destination, this place is perfect for milestone moments or peaceful escapes. We can’t wait to return!

Located in the small town of Bellano, just a train station away from Varenna, Orrido di Bellano is a 15 million-year-old gorge with a series of waterfalls and footbridges anchored on high walls. The narrow valley offers a refreshing escape from the summer heat as visitors stroll along the rocky walls and through beautiful caves and grottoes formed by the River Pioverna.
Bellano, a charming lakeside village on the eastern shore of Lake Como, is known for its authentic Italian atmosphere and scenic beauty. Beyond its colorful streets and serene waterfront, Bellano is home to the dramatic Orrido di Bellano, a natural gorge carved by the rushing waters of the Pioverna River. The gorge, with its narrow rock formations, cascading waterfalls, and centuries-old legends, offers visitors a breathtaking walk along suspended pathways—a striking contrast to the calm elegance of the lake. Bellano is a hidden gem where nature, history, and tranquility meet.

This was a relatively short experience, but the place is absolutely beautiful and we really loved it! Parking is limited to one hour, but honestly, an hour is just enough time to enjoy the visit. Definitely worth visiting!
Leigh S — Google review
Bought tickets online prior to our visit so you could skip the ticket office and go straight to the entrance. Before arriving we were lucky to find a parking spot, but I think it can be a problem for some to find a spot. The Orrido is a relatively short attraction but definitely worth the money (€7,5 per adult). Very beautiful and impressive so a big recommendation from me.

Orido di Bellano may be a short walk, but it’s absolutely worth visiting. You don’t have to just rush through it — it’s one of those places where you can simply stop, take a breath, and really look. The waterfalls, the cliffs, the light — it’s all so beautiful and powerful when you give yourself the time to take it in. We noticed that many people just walk through quickly, take a photo or two, and move on. But honestly, it’s worth slowing down — standing still and really absorbing the view makes all the difference. It felt like a bit of a hidden gem. We got there using local public transport, which also gave us a discount on the entrance fee. It wasn’t crowded at all, and the whole experience felt calm and memorable — actually one of our favorite, more peaceful memories from Lago di Como. Bellano itself was also super charming — much quieter than some of the more famous towns in the area, and honestly, I enjoyed it more for exactly that reason.

Ristorante Mistral is an upscale dining venue located within the luxurious Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni, offering a creative and elevated Italian-inspired cuisine. With its breathtaking views of Lake Como and the surrounding mountains, this Michelin-starred restaurant provides a unique dining experience. Directed by Chef Ettore Bocchia, known for his expertise in molecular cuisine, Mistral presents a diverse menu that combines traditional and innovative recipes using seasonal ingredients.
My husband and I went here for our 20th wedding anniversary and it was the most spectacular meal. We’ve been to a number of Michelin rated restaurants and this one surpasses them all. The service was impeccable the second we walked in and the views were absolutely breathtaking. The meal itself was extremely memorable. My husband had a shellfish appetizer that was a piece of art and also delicate and delicious. The peacock tortellini was otherworldly and the veal loin presentation was perfection. Service was responsive but not overbearing. It will be a meal I remember for the rest of my life.

This place has a very good menu selection and the food is great. Not sure why people are posting prices to be very expensive because it is not. Appetizer, main course, drink and water was about €39. The manager and the wait staff were marvelous, very attentive and helpful. Definitely recommend it.

We had the pleasure of dining at Ristorante Mistral and it was a fantastic experience. The tasting menu was full of creativity and flavour, beautifully presented from start to finish. The service was on another level – attentive, professional and genuinely warm, which made the evening feel even more special. It’s not an everyday place as it comes with a Michelin price tag, but for a memorable occasion it’s absolutely worth it. The atmosphere has a unique charm that stays with you long after you leave.
Paul S — Google review
Ristorante Mistral is one of the best restaurants you’ll find in Bellagio. We opted for the seven course tasting menu which was modified to accommodate my dietary restrictions without diminishing the gastronomy experience. I tried everything from fois gras to peacock. The signature dessert was a nice treat at the end of service—liquid nitrogen ice cream made right in front of you! Overall, the menu was creative and packed with flavor, the service was white glove and ambiance was beautiful. The views of the lake were breathtaking and I loved the live piano performance you can hear from the hotel lounge area. If you’re in Lake Como for a special occasion, I highly recommend making a reservation here.

This place was amazing. This review is about the hotel bar and Mistral the restaurant. The bar - the attention was fabulous. My husband ordered a gin and tonic. They said there is an experience with it. So they sprayed aromas and added floral pieces into his drink. He said it was delicious. They brought us some aperitif to have while we ate. Mistral. Worth every penny. Every course is explained to you. Our food and fishes were delicious. You can. Goose a preset 5 course meal or do it ala cart. They changed our napkins 3 times. They would refill our water as soon as we put it down. If I left they would put my napkin back in my lap. There were no gaps in service. Ur all flowed well. It was a few hours with the most spectacular view of Lake Como and 5 star food. If I ever return, I will definitely return.
Jenny R — Google review
A little about the tasting menu (€250 per person) and related service if you are curious. Overall had a great time, but I have to mention the key points for people: The tartar with caviar (1st course) was on point. The peacock was not able to be tasted because it was drenched in seasoning and broth, which made it taste like pork. The grouper fish was overcooked making the texture squeaky rather than softly melting. The chef or the assistant needs to regain tastebud because their salting is way off. The waitress is very nice, the one with M tattoo on her neck behind ear, but had trouble explaining all the food in detail and her pronunciation was hard to understand as if she wanted to get away with saying it fast. The table experience was off as stains were not immediately covered and breadcrumbs were not removed in a timely manner. The pigeon was also on point and salted correctly. They shouldn’t have fried the gnocco with greens for the welcoming menu, because this is cheap taste. Let’s hear other people out and see if they deserve to maintain the one Michelin star. I think they need to be inspected. Important 💔: The manager who is tall and bald had claimed that the two corner tables in the forefront of lakeview were booked six months in advance, but it was discovered that this was an exaggeration according to guests. This small lie made me mistrust the peacock and the related explanation. Overall, satisfied with the ambience and the view and the mood. Not so much the excellence of the food. It is possible the chef was absent and the manager is too egotistical as a result.
Nicholas P — Google review
Wonderful food, service and atmosphere. Friendly and professional staff. Beautiful piano music. Fabulous somaliere. Strongly recommended.
Line M — Google review
This place is so overrated. Our waitress was clearly annoyed she had a table of 2 women and not a 60+ year old man with a 25 year old girlfriend. The whole place is super stuffy but not even in a classic cool way. The food was very mediocre considering what you pay. Quality seemed low compared to any other place in the area and the vibe was comparable to a funeral. The wine is actually decently priced for good bottles which was the only upside. The view is nice but we were seated behind the front row (maybe because we were two women and no men but I don’t want to make assumptions). Although there were 3 empty tables on the front row for an hour after we were seated. If you want to pay $300+ for a below average meal to show off then this is your spot. If you actually want a good dinner and experience then would not recommend.

The hotel has been carefully maintained and restored to preserve its architectural features. My husband and I had such a lovely stay at Villa Cipressi. The views from our room were incredible and the hotel itself is beautiful. The staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was a nice addition. And the access to the gardens / views from the gardens made it even more worth it. We will definitely be back!

We visited Hotel Villa Cipressi to explore the gardens, and it was absolutely worth the €10 entry fee. The views of Lake Como were stunning – peaceful, romantic, and perfect for photos. The gardens are well kept and offer a lovely walk through nature with gorgeous backdrops. We queued at the famous gate for a photo, but the line was quite hectic and we ended up waiting over an hour. Some people took their time, which is understandable, but it did slow things down a lot. It would be great if the hotel added a staff member to help manage the queue, maybe allowing around 2 minutes per person. That small change could make the experience smoother for everyone. After finally getting our photo, we enjoyed a drink by the bar. We didn’t check the price in advance, and a glass of Aperol Spritz came to €18 – definitely on the pricey side, but with that view, it's somewhat understandable. All in all, it was a lovely experience and we’ll definitely be back. Just a few improvements could make it perfect!

Famous Gates of Heaven at Lake Como (Varenna). We came on a Monday morning at 10am, not many people in the garden. There were 2 other couples at the gate and once they left, we had the place to ourselves for 15 minutes! The area behind the gate is very shallow so make sure to have a wide angle lens for your photos! Very beautiful area, granted, we did not have to wait in line.

I shot a wedding at Hotel Villa Cipressi on Lake Como and the views are just unreal - every direction you look is a postcard. The light, the mountains, the water, it’s all just so dreamy! Beautiful gardens, winding little paths, and the prettiest spots for photos everywhere, overlooking the lake. One of my favourite places in the world!

Save your money and buy a pass to the gardens but definitely don’t stay here. The worst customer service. Check in was awful and the night reception was incredibly rude. The day staff kept forgetting we were guests and kept yelling at us to pay to get in. I left 2 jackets in the closet upon check out and emailed to see if I could get them back somehow, Still no response a week later. Now I have lost the jackets completely as I am home now. The room was bare and felt like a hospital room. The blankets were terrible. Everything about this place is awful except the terrace views & the gardens.Do not recommend to anyone to stay here ever! Considering this was my first stop on our Italy travels I am disgusted and saddened I chose this place to be so important on my list of travels. Huge disappointment.
Tabanda F — Google review
This is only for anyone visiting the villa for photos. The ladies at the entrance were extremely rude — they immediately charged us €19 per person, and we later found out the tickets were actually €10. They weren’t willing to answer my questions and kept talking among themselves while I was waiting, which felt very unprofessional. Definitely poor customer service. Also, be prepared for a queue when entering, and note that your photos will depend heavily on the lighting. We went around 12 PM, and the light was harsh, so I was quite disappointed with how the photos turned out. However, the villa itself was beautiful — worth seeing if you go at a better time of day.

This is the first time in Lake Como and staying at Hotel Villa Cipressi was the best choice. Staying on the Eastern Coast is a great idea because you get views of the sunset. Extended stay hotel
Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni is a luxurious hotel located in Bellagio, Italy. The hotel offers elegant rooms and a range of upscale amenities including a spa, bars, and two restaurants. Guests can also enjoy the hotel's pools and access to a private beach on the lake. The property has an interesting history and is currently owned by the Rockefeller Foundation, serving as a creative retreat for artists, writers, and scientists.
Our stay at this magnificent villa on Lake Como was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the impeccable service and the dedication of the entire staff. The interiors are absolutely stunning — refined, elegant, and perfectly in line with the timeless charm of the villa. The restaurant deserves special mention: the cuisine was exquisite, every dish a delight, and the cocktail menu in the bar was both creative and sophisticated. We were also touched by the thoughtful birthday celebration, which made our experience even more memorable. The service was flawless throughout the day. The waiters, dressed in white stockings and bow ties from morning until evening, brought an exceptional sense of refinement and harmony that perfectly matched the villa’s interiors and atmosphere. If there was one slight disappointment, it was the attitude of some fellow guests. Unfortunately, many did not follow the dress code recommendations that had been clearly communicated at the time of booking. It was a shame, as this lack of consideration diminished the otherwise consistent sense of elegance and exclusivity of the place. Overall, however, our experience at this villa was absolutely outstanding — a true example of luxury hospitality at the highest level.
Marina N — Google review
I had such high expectations staying at Villa Serbelloni, but unfortunately the experience was very underwhelming. The one thing that is truly outstanding is the location, it is absolutely beautiful and cannot be faulted. However, for a five-star property, the service and staff experience fell far short. Coming from a five-star hotel in Switzerland just before this stay, the contrast was stark. At Villa Serbelloni, there was no real sense of welcome or warmth, often no greeting, no effort to make you feel special. For example, when sitting by the pool, not even being offered complimentary water when towels are handed out felt surprising and completely unacceptable for a hotel of this level. The staff were not rude, but they were also far from attentive, polished, or genuinely welcoming. And that’s what makes the difference between a hotel simply having five-star facilities versus delivering a true five-star experience. I had been looking forward to this as one of the highlights of our European trip, but sadly it ended up being one of the most disappointing. If what you want from a five-star stay is to feel valued, wowed, and taken care of, this is not the place.

My wife and I recently completed a five-night stay at the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni as part of our honeymoon and could not be happier with the experience. The property is stunning, pictures and descriptions simply do not do it justice, and the staff could not have been kinder or more attentive. While Bellagio itself can feel crowded with visitors during the day, the hotel is a serene oasis, allowing guests to enjoy the town at its best in the calm of the mornings and evenings. Our stay was flawless, and we are already looking forward to returning.

By far the best hotel in Bellagio. From the Michelin-starred Mistral restaurant to the elegant rooms, private beach club, and even the famous diving board, every detail is exceptional. The privacy of the property makes it feel truly exclusive, as only guests can enter past the gate. Service was outstanding — Claudio and Luca were especially memorable, and the young gentleman (Claudio’s friend) at Mistral made our dining experience even more special. An unforgettable stay.

Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Colico, the Forte di Fuentes is a historical gem worth exploring. Constructed in 1609 under the guidance of military architect Gabrio Brusca, this fortress was strategically built by Spanish governor Pedro Acevedo to safeguard against local threats. Spanning an impressive 300 meters in length and 125 meters wide, it once housed military barracks, a Governor's Palace, a church, and various essential facilities like a mill and water reservoirs.
To be honest there isn't much left from the fort itself given its age but it's absolutely worth going there for the stunning views and what the fort builders needed to go through to get everything up there. Consider also the fact that they had no water source in the fort so all water needed to continuously be transported there with mules.

We enjoyed walking through the area almost without any other people. There are a few signs to read about history and nice views to the valley and mountains
Ivan T — Google review
Went to the forte but you can only view it by guided tour and the next one wasn’t for 40 mins. Take some time to be more prepared than us and know the start times. From what we saw in the lobby, it’s an older attraction that’s heavily military based. It was pretty empty, even on a Saturday afternoon.

An impressive fort from the 1600s, when the Spanish ruled this area. Definitely worth a visit, particularly in combination with Forte Montecchio Nord. This is a very different site to the other one, being much older and mostly in ruins, although there is some WW1 history on the site too. The views of the surrounding area are fantastic and really emphasise the strategic importance of the location through the centuries. The staff member on duty gave a brief but very informative introduction to the site in front of a map showing a reconstruction of the fort, before letting me roam the site and see the ruins for myself. The walk from the car park and into the fort itself is a fairly steep track, so bear this in mind if you have limited mobility.

The garden is small but well-maintained, with paths through lush green vegetation. It's a great place to see new plants if you live far from the equator, and it's also a peaceful oasis away from the bustle of town.
A small, but charming and magical garden in Cernobbio. I loved walking through it and seeing the different types of plants and trees, the little touches of artwork and seating areas dotted around. It was a quiet and sunny day and everywhere I looked, it was green and luscious. It’s truly an enchanted place, wouldn’t have been surprised to spot a fairy flying around 🧚

It took a long time to find the entrance to this beautiful garden. It needs more sign posting! What a treat this was, considering it had been where rubbish was deposited, the volunteers transformed it remarkably well. The sound of the tinkling stream, waterfall and well planted shrubbery and plants is truly amazing. It has to be said, I found it rough underfoot, but I managed. Nowhere did I read we needed VERY sensible footwear, be aware, it is ALL uphill, and downhill on the return. I was wearing trainers thank goodness. The carvings, intimate little corners, pebble collections all made the visit wonderful. Truly lovely.

Il Giardino Della Valle is an absolute gem hidden away in the Italian countryside. This stunning botanical garden is a true oasis of tranquility and natural beauty. As you wander through the lush, meticulously manicured grounds, you're surrounded by an incredible diversity of flora - from vibrant flowering plants to towering ancient trees. The attention to detail in the garden's design is truly remarkable, creating a sense of harmony and balance at every turn. What I love most about Il Giardino Della Valle is how it seamlessly blends the natural and the man-made. The ornate stone fountains, bridges, and sculptures are works of art that complement the living, breathing landscape perfectly. It's a place that truly nourishes the senses - the sights, the smells, the serenity. Whether you're looking to reconnect with nature, find a moment of peaceful contemplation, or simply immerse yourself in breathtaking natural beauty, Il Giardino Della Valle is an absolute must-visit. It's a true haven that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and inspired. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Lovely garden among a small stream,in an amazing project which is handled by good citizens that decided to nurture the environment. The garden is beautiful and admirably maintained by volunteers. This is a wonderful haven of greenery, colour and wildlife hidden away. Allow at least an hour to visit, and take a picnic to enjoy at one of the seven or eight benches available. Not well signed and if coming by car, best to leave the vehicle in Cernobbio and walk the 500m up the road north to its entrance.

Hotel
Villa d'Este is a luxurious lakeside hotel that dates back to the 16th century. Originally commissioned by Cardinal Ptolemy Gallio, it was designed by architect Pellegrino Tibaldi and was once a female convent. Over the centuries, it passed through the hands of noble families and even housed a dancer from La Scala. In 1873, it was transformed into a luxury hotel and became a popular destination for the glamorous jet set.
Excellence. This hotel and the stay here was my best hotel experience ever. The general vibe and feeling of the hotel is superior. The room was big and welcoming. The view from the room was not the best - but nevertheless it was clean, true to its style and had an exquisite bathroom and bed. The dinner at the Grill restaurant was amazing and the wine list inspired a truly unforgettable night. The piano bar with joyful music and a mingle between all the guests was simply amazing - and added to that «old money»-vibe in a beautiful manner. The surroundings are also astonishing and provides the very best atmosphere and enjoyment you can find. All of these amenities and beautiful surrounding would, however, not be as meaningful if it weren’t for the excellent staff and their attention to detail and ability to adapt to the guests. I find the ability to adapt to the guests as the most important thing and at that this was world class. We were a group of four friends which had an incredible and extremely successful experience with Villa d’Este. Keep doing what you are doing - I will be back.

We stayed here during our honeymoon for three nights. The service was excellent, the concierge was very helpful with setting up taxis. My husband loved their coffee, and enjoyed sitting outside near the lake during the afternoons. We loved their Sundeck during the day, the pasta and club sandwich were delicious! We also liked the hotel's breakfast. We did have dinner at the Grill and the Veranda, and while we enjoyed our meals, our options were limited since we do not eat seafood. We did use their laundry service and there were no issues. I really appreciated the hot water for my shower or bath. Our room had a great view of the lake, and we will miss waking up to it.

Villa d’Este Dreamlike Escape on Lake Como – Perfection in Every Detail From the moment we arrived at this breathtaking Lake Como hotel, we knew we were somewhere extraordinary. The hotel’s setting is nothing short of cinematic—nestled between lush green hills and the shimmering waters of the lake, every view feels like a postcard brought to life. The staff welcomed us as if we were lifelong friends, offering warm smiles while our luggage magically disappeared to our suite. The attention to detail was impeccable—fresh flowers in the room with personalized welcome notes. Our suite was a masterpiece of design: soaring windows framing a magic garden, a marble bathroom with a deep soaking tub that felt like a spa on its own. The bed was the kind of cloud you never want to leave. Breakfast by the Lake featured just-baked pastries and cappuccinos so perfect they could ruin all others for you. The floating pool overlooking the lake was pure serenity. Even small touches, like the live piano music created an atmosphere of timeless elegance.

Went for dinner to the Grill. Service was exceptional and so was the food. We loved the olive oil and balsamic so much that we bought the pair to take home. We got a glass of wine, an appetizer, 3 entrees, a dessert. Total bill for everything was 530 euros - perfect for a special occasion or a treat! The hotel and the grounds are stunning - hoping we can stay there one day!

From the moment you arrive you know you’ve been transported to someplace special. Villa d’Este is pure luxury at its finest. The grounds are immaculate. Worthy of every photo on social media platforms. Photos alone do not represent the true beauty of the hotel. The grounds, the lobby, the floating pool, the restaurants, and the residences are visually stunning. Oh, the view of Lake Como. Every photo you take is postcard deserving. The entire staff was professional, warm, friendly, and genuine. They went out of their way to ensure our stay was the best possible. Special thank you to Roberto. Our suite was a Junior Suite Lake View. Spacious and well appointed in the Cardinal’s Building. We had a corner suite overlooking both Lake Como and the hotel’s grounds. The hotel refers to them as residences, we never felt more at home. Our dinner at Veranda was a taste of elegance. Delectable with every savory bite. Overlooking the immaculate gardens and Lake Como. The views are breathtaking. A truly magnificent dining experience. Our stay was exemplary! One has to experience the pinnacle of endless hospitality and true beauty. A must stay. We look forward to our return.

Beautiful hotel and grounds but what sets this hotel apart is the exquisite service provided by the whole team- from the lovely driver who picked us up from the airport all the way through to the fabulous breakfast staff, bar staff, housekeeping, reception and concierge. Every single staff person we encountered went above and beyond to make sure we felt well cared for . Truly some of the BEST!!
Swati G — Google review
The care taken in cleaning the windows in the lake-view room is a good representation of the overall experience, unfortunately the small details simply fail to deliver making what could be an amazing experience fall short. Window cleaning is just a representation of a bunch of small details that each in its own is not dramatic but that adds up and does not meet expectations… Nice hotel and staff but quality simply does not match the pricetag.

Villa Bernasconi is a remarkable example of Art Nouveau architecture located on Lake Como. Designed by architect Alfredo Campanini, it was originally built as a fashion house for engineer Davide Bernasconi, the founder of a silk weaving company in Cernobbio. The villa's design features asymmetrical and dynamic forms, showcasing the artistic value of decorations typical of the liberty style. Visitors can explore interactive exhibits and enjoy music performances within this grand turn-of-the-century villa.
Exquisite and delicate liberty style villa. Very well preserved. Book in advance to get a very instructive guided tour !

A really nice villa at the beginning of Cernobbio. The tour allows you to interact with the different installations to try to relive what the villa was like when it was still inhabited. Recommended visit for children, as well as the stop at the garden view bar: very nice atmosphere! On weekends you can park at the school parking lot a short walk away.

I stumbled across Villa Bernasconi by chance. I was taken in by the artistic design of the building and paid my €8,00. I was lucky, as the museum was very quiet and I had time to appreciate the building and learn about it's history and what it brought to the local area. Although relatively simple, the way the history of the building and stories from the factory workers were shown, they really brought the place to life. I hoped to listen to the Italian recordings from the drawers online and improve my Italian skills. However when I asked the lady (unfortunately I didn't catch her name), sadly this was not possible. However, she did the next best thing and brought me a leaflet about the house in both Italian and English, so I can learn from that. Great customer service and it was a nice touch to an enjoyable visit.

(Translated by Google) The complex complex of Villa Mylius-Vigoni extends on the edge of the village of Loveno. In 1829, the German entrepreneur Heinrich Mylius began the transformation of an agricultural estate with an eighteenth-century manor house into one of the most fascinating holiday resorts on the Lario. The renovation was entrusted to the Milanese architect Gaetano Besia (1791-1871), who expanded the residence, giving it a Neoclassical style. The interiors are very noteworthy, both for furnishings and works of art, among which various paintings by Francesco Hayez (1791-1882), master of historical Romanticism, stand out. The layout of the park, which extends over five hectares with a difference in height of over 100 metres, is due to the Milanese Giuseppe Balzaretti (1801-1874), a highly regarded interpreter of the landscape garden. Among the minor buildings, the Tempietto stands out, built in 1831 on the edge of the green amphitheater to commemorate the premature death of Milyus' son, with bas-reliefs by B. Thorvaldsen and P. Marchesi inside, and a commemorative inscription inspired by Alessandro Manzoni on the front south. The property, inherited by Ignazio Vigoni (1905-1983), was expanded by the latter by acquiring the underlying Villa Garovaglio, a spectacular eighteenth-century residence. Upon Vigoni's death, in the absence of direct heirs, the complex was donated to the Federal Republic of Germany to honor the memory of the initiator of its development. Today Villa Vigoni is home to a foundation which aims to promote Italian-German relations in the fields of scientific research, higher education, culture and economy. The villa and park are open to the public on set days. Extract from the Guide «Discovering Tremezzina» (Francesco Soletti, Edizioni New Press 2017). Ali di Alice is a unique restaurant located on a hill overlooking Lake Como. It's recommended to make reservations in advance as the place tends to get fully booked. The setting is one-of-a-kind and the food is described as amazing, with options that go beyond the typical Italian menu. The wine selection is also praised, and the views from the restaurant are beautiful. While it may not be a budget-friendly option, many find that the quality of food justifies the prices.
Amazing location, amazing food and perfect service. We came here for a la carte dinner and were very happy. The location offers stunning views of the lake, the host and server were incredibly welcoming and offered us suggestions for exploring around the lake. The food was delicious - from a starter with pickled fish combined with honey, a vegetarian lasagna und lake fish with vegetables and potatoes. The dessert was another highlight with homemade icecream, combined with homemade olive oil and focaccia. Can highly recommend! Thank you 🙏

We booked Ali Di Alice for our wedding dinner and it was absolutely magical. Alice had transformed her already beautiful place into exactly what I wanted with the flowers and candles. The meal was so delicious, everything was perfect. She was able to cook something for all our guests with allergies too, the food was beyond fresh and portions were generous. She was so gracious, helpful and accommodating during the planning process. We cannot wait to come back to Lake Como and eat here again and relive the memories.

June, 2025 We couldn’t have chosen a better place for an intimate family dinner. After a boat tour on the lake and a visit to Villa del Balbianello, we found this spot and decided to privatize the entire garden and villa just for us. We added activities for the kids in the garden and in the kitchen, a delicious menu, a romantic table setting, and the incredible charisma of Alice and her team. We will definitely never forget this place and will absolutely come back — with friends!

We did the Essence of Lake Como tasting dinner the first night of our vacation and had an amazing experience! The staff were very friendly and we enjoyed the immersive feel of the dinner. The outdoor space was lovely with a beautiful view overlooking Lake Como and the mountains. A storm rolled in at the end of our dinner and they didn’t hesitate to let us stay past close and even offered us another drink! The food and wine were incredible and the friendly staff made it such a special night!

The food was great and the view even better! We were here as a large group and they offered us the tasting menu, since this is a rather small place and it can take a while with a regular menu so it was not possible. The prices were pretty high but the food, wine and view made it worth it :) they ranged between 40-65 depending on whether you had a starter, a first course or a dessert as well. There were multiple options (including vegetarian for each course), such as tagliatelle with oxtail ragout, salmon trout, beef cheeks, or even cheese platter with accompanyments for each type of cheese.

Villa Sola Cabiati is the embodiment of Italianità—a place where heritage, artistry, and romance are seamlessly woven into its magnificent walls. While the villa itself is a masterpiece of elegance, what truly sets it apart is its impeccable staff. Their dedication to preserving and sharing the villa’s legacy is remarkable; they operate at the highest levels of luxury hospitality, yet with a warmth and passion that make every guest feel truly welcome. The Stucco Room is among the most breathtaking spaces I have ever stepped into—an exquisite showcase of intricate craftsmanship and timeless beauty. Having visited many Italian villas, I can confidently say that Villa Sola Cabiati is one of my absolute favorites. It is grand yet intimate, majestic yet deeply inviting. From the very moment you step onto the grounds, you are transported into another world—a world of refined beauty, history, and la dolce vita. Every corner of this storied villa is a tribute to artistry, heritage, luxury, and the effortless charm of Italy. Here I photographed S&D’s wedding, which was an unforgettable experience. To this day, their gallery remains one of my all-time favorites—a testament to the magic that unfolds within these walls.

Shocking Service – Avoid Navigazione Laghi Ferry service at All Costs! The ferry service on Lake Como is an absolute disgrace. When we arrived in Varenna, the chaos was unbelievable. One person working in the ticket office, a single line that snaked endlessly, and absolutely no clear signage to help anyone. It took 1.5 hours just to get onto a ferry to Bellagio. Trying to buy tickets online? Forget it — always “sold out.” It gets worse. Traveling from Bellagio to Como, the ferry times were wrong, online tickets unavailable again, and we were forced to line up for ages just to buy a one-way ticket (they refused to sell returns). In Como, the situation was even more pathetic — the queue stretched for kilometres and then a hand-written sign announced “all tickets sold out” for Bellagio and Varenna. No warning, no alternatives, nothing. We were left stranded and had to pay €95 for a taxi back to Bellagio. This level of service would be a joke if it wasn’t so expensive and stressful. And this isn’t even peak season yet! Do yourself a favour — avoid Navigazione Laghi. Plan alternative transport if you want to actually enjoy your trip.

Gave the Bellagio > Como fast ferry (~45min) a shot for Sunday morning July 6th. Bellagio ticket office opened around 7.30am (supposedly 20mins before the 1st ferry which was 7.50am). Went to ticket counter around 7.25am and there was 5 people in line to buy tickets and 1 person in line for 1st ferry - was a breeze! Fair warning tho when we reached Como, there was probably ~75 people in line there to get on ferry to Bellagio.
Syaqinah L — Google review
Please note that this review relates to the Navigazione ferry services and not to Bellagio itself. Booking upfront and online might be a good option but you need a plan - what, where and when precisely you want to visit on the lake. Add some buffer time on top as the ferries tend to be not super punctual. Be attentive regarding the ferry gates as not all apply to Navigazione and especially in Bellagio it could get confusing as there is one a little bit aside, you can easily miss it!

Such a convenience to have the ferry available to get around Lake Como. We took the car once and went by foot a few trips. Easy to buy tickets and navigate the schedule. They seem to do a great job of keeping the schedule on time as well. Plenty of areas above ferry to sit and keep warm if it's a windy day.
Damien M — Google review
This was the most beautiful "mundane" public transportation experience I have ever seen. The ferry has several stops and is very slow paced so with a tour guide, you can really enjoy the views. Even without a guided tour, the views are so incredible and awe-inspiring that a few hours on the ferry is very therapeutic. Highly recommended for a more relaxed and laid back take on Lake Como.
Zarwah — Google review
Ticket office opens at 7:20 or 7:30. The line is shorter and have a better chance of buying tickets at this time. Be prepared to get insulted in a language you don’t understand. Customer service does not exist here. Both interactions with staff were very poor.

The one and only Bellagio! The beauty. The grace. The ambiance. The stores. The restaurants. The local people. The scenery. The wonderful smells. The food. The pastries. The streets. The architect. The lake. Nothing compares! You can not visit and truly experience Italy without paying a visit to Lago Di Como Bellagio!! 🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽 Truly MAGNIFICENT.

Villa Parravicino Sossnovsky is a well-preserved and enchanting mansion surrounded by stunning greenery. The interiors feature small but charming rooms, complemented by a characteristic garden. The estate also hosts the Rossini Art Site, an open-air museum showcasing contemporary artworks by renowned artists like Melotti, Munari, and Pomodoro. Additionally, the villa's classic architecture and beautiful interiors provide an idyllic setting for romantic events such as weddings.
We had the pleasure of photographing Annika & Björn’s wedding at Villa Parravicino Sossnovsky, and it was an absolutely amazing experience! The villa is breathtaking, with its classic architecture and beautiful interiors that create the perfect setting for a romantic wedding. The garden is stunning, offering lush greenery and lovely spots for both the ceremony and photos. Being near Lake Como, the location adds an extra layer of charm to the entire experience. The staff at Villa Parravicino Sossnovsky were incredibly friendly and accommodating, making sure every detail of the day went off without a hitch. We had a wonderful time capturing this special day and couldn’t recommend this venue enough for couples looking for a dreamy wedding setting near Lake Como!

(Translated by Google) I got married last week at Villa Parravicino Sossnovsky, and I highly recommend it to all future spouses. The Villa is splendid both inside, with the beautiful original frescoes that will make your wedding lunch/dinner magical, and outside in the well-kept garden, full of flowers and majestic trees, in particular the ceremony under the wonderful cedar. The cellar, much more spartan, was perfect for the rest of the evening! The countess has always been very accommodating, she allowed us to visit the Villa even after having booked it for the wedding and allowed us to organize the arrangements in advance thanks to the very kind caretaker who opened the Villa to me on several occasions! A special mention to the representative of the Villa Debora who was exceptional, super available, efficient and very kind during the entire preparation of the wedding, always ready to give advice and resolve any doubts. Without her help in the previous months and her coordination during the evening the wedding would not have been the same! We are truly grateful to her for all the help! Finally a mention to the Europarty catering, external to the Villa but recommended by Debora, I received so many compliments for the food (I will do a more in-depth Google review on their activity)! If you want a magical location and where you will never feel like an intruder this is the perfect place for an unforgettable day!

(Translated by Google) Villa Parravicino proved to be a superb choice for our wedding, proving to be a valid alternative even without the view of Lake Como that we initially desired. The period villa is perfectly maintained and offers an incredible setting, surrounded by a wonderful garden and park that left all guests amazed and fascinated. We were able to enjoy an outdoor aperitif in the park; the dinner then took place in the suggestive period room, while the cutting of the cake in the courtyard, under a starry sky and with luminous fountains, was simply magical. The dessert buffet, positioned near the fountain, and the party in the cellar below allowed different spaces to be exploited, creating a dynamic and unforgettable event. The variety of spaces gave our wedding a unique movement, making every moment special. Villa Parravicino is undoubtedly an extraordinary location for those looking for an enchanting atmosphere and impeccable organisation. The owner, Mrs. Camilla, was very kind and helpful, but special thanks go to Debora, who manages the villa and assisted us with the organization. Debora was truly exceptional: always available, flexible, dynamic, sweet and ready to satisfy all our requests. Without his help, in the organization and on the day itself, we would never have been able to create the perfect wedding we wanted. We are truly grateful! The guests loved every moment and we couldn't be happier with our choice. Villa Parravicino made our special day even more memorable. What can I say... splendid location and perfectly maintained park, full of monumental plants and rarities. We, as newlyweds, were already excited...but entering the park was fantastic, a guaranteed Wow effect, and judging by the looks of the guests, they too were amazed. We relied on a catering company, the owner Camilla was very helpful and with her experience she will be able to recommend the suppliers that are right for you. After all, word of mouth is essential to finding good people. We were lucky to have a day with perfect weather, but in case of need there are many covered spaces and can be a good fallback. The dining room is majestic and full of history and the first time we visited it made us fall in love with the place. The cellar is very large and becomes a super disco! The small room for the newlyweds on the upper floor to refresh themselves is also useful as a support. If it is still open for FAI in the next few years we will be back! Castello di Urio, initially owned by the Della Porta family in the late 1600s, has a rich history of passing through several important families before coming under the ownership of the Melzi family. The villa is more than just a castle; it's an enchanting place surrounded by natural beauty and offering stunning views of Lake Como. Its interior reflects 18th-century elegance, reminiscent of a time before the French Revolution.

Nestled in the picturesque town of Varenna, Divina Vita Apartments is a hidden gem that promises breathtaking views of Lake Como. With only five exclusive apartments, each featuring charming balconies adorned with decorative metal railings, guests can soak in the stunning scenery right from their rooms. The Deluxe Apartment boasts particularly spectacular vistas. Located conveniently above Bar Il Molo, this spot offers an ideal base for exploring the area while enjoying vibrant local life.
Perfect cozy spot for couples or solo travelers. The views from the window were absolutely breathtaking. Sina our host was very helpful and accommodating. The apartment was very clean and super spacious. The location was spot on a walkable distance to the ferry and train stations. Despite lake como being not in season in February and many shops and restaurants were closed it was still a beautiful and quiet town perfect for a city escape. The bar/ restaurant was located just downstairs from the apartment. The staff were absolutely wonderful and the food was super delicious with a fantastic view and it wasn’t loud or noisy which was perfect for a calm sleep. Two things I’d like to mention is the window curtains were a bit annoying they were complicated to open and close and the coffee machine which I couldn’t get to work however these are menial things and didn’t at all stop us from having a great time and the host was super helpful when confronted with any issues and was able to provide alternatives and support. Overall 100% would recommend this lovely apartment.

If I could leave more than 5 stars, I would - our stay here was fantastic! From the moment we booked, Sina was so helpful and communicative! He helped to provide countless suggestions and recommendations, answered our many questions, and even helped to make restaurant reservations for us. Upon arrival, it was raining, and he helped to coordinate a taxi to take us from the train station to our apartment. The apartment itself was amazing - spotless and had everything we needed for our three nights. The bed was by far the most comfortable we have ever had while traveling. We had a gorgeous balcony that looked right out over Bar Il Molo (where breakfast was complimentary during our stay!). The location could not have been better. If you are deciding between booking a hotel or booking this property, this is the way to go!

It’s so difficult to put into words what a fantastic experience we had in Varenna. We were three couples and stayed at Divina Vita Apartments. From the first moment that I reached out to the Manager, Sina (almost a year in advance), I knew this was going to be a great experience. He was very responsive and his kindness was clearly evident with each communication. When we arrived, we were treated like special guests and Sina was right there to assist us whenever we needed him. I don’t think I will ever forget walking into that apartment and seeing that stunning view of the lake. We are so thankful for the time we spent in Varenna. We highly recommend the Divina Vita Apartments, as well as, Bar il Molo (by the way, breakfast is included). The staff there is some of the hardest working staff I have ever encountered. They were kind, friendly and made us feel so comfortable. It felt like being at home with family. This was an unforgettable adventure and once again, a huge thank you to Sina, for ALL he did to make this trip perfect! ❤️🌹

This is such an amazing find nestled in the best location in Varenna! The views truly are unparalleled and the service (especially from Sina) was remarkable! When we arrived and freshened up, they reserved the best table at Bar Il Molo for us which had the most gorgeous view!! The balcony was spacious enough and we spent a lot of time on it. Noises were not an issue and the rooms were spacious and very clean. 1000/10 location, 10000/10 service!!! We are forever thankful and will recommend this B&B over and over again! Thank you so much Sina!

Had the most wonderful stay at Divina Vita Apartments in Varenna. The location and the views are just stunning! We stayed in the “suite” which was extremely spacious, with all the comforts you need for a relaxing holiday. The most comfy big bed and fluffy towels, it’s just perfect. The cleanliness and interiors are impeccable. Nice big windows and balcony to sit out on to enjoy the stunning vistas of the lake and beyond. A big plate of fresh fruit was delivered once we settled in. We were personally greeted by the hospitality manager Sina, who carried our bags down for us and also when we left. Out of all our travels he has been the absolute most gracious and kindest person we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He does an outstanding job and enjoys his work thoroughly. He treats you like his family and goes the extra mile to accommodate you. Communication with him was spot on and he recommended so many amazing places to visit and restaurants etc. Breakfast is included at their adjoining restaurant Bar il Molo which was so delicious and right on the lake, such a beautiful spot. I highly recommend a stay at Divina Vita Apartments in Varenna.

We booked this location to stay for one of the three legs of our honeymoon, I’m so impressed that I’m writing this review from the train to the next leg. The hospitality manager, Sina, goes above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. We stayed in the Loft apartment and were greeted by him with fresh fruit that was very nice to enjoy after a day of travel ending with the Trenord replacement bus service. Additionally Sina helped secure reservations at local restaurants for each night of our stay, completing it with a reasonably priced night in the spa. This was a huge highlight of our trip and I cannot recommend staying here enough - in no small part thanks to Sina’s hospitality. Thank you again, I look forward to returning someday!

The apartment features two rooms, a spacious kitchen, and is praised for its comfortable beds and sofa.
Pietro the host was very welcoming and gave us information about the local area. The hairdryer was not working but Pietro bought us a new one. The beds and sofa were very comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped. You have fantastic views of the lake from the balcony. The best part about this place was the location. Very close to the train station and the ferry. It’s 5 minutes walk to the centre of Varenna which is beautiful walking along the lake. There is a grocery story just around the corner. I booked to stay at this accommodation in August this year. Yesterday I received a message from the owner to say he has to cancel my booking, no reason was given. I wrote back to say that as this was initiated by him he must cancel the booking via Airbnb as I will incur a fee or will not receive all of my payment if I do it. Again the owner told me no it was OK. I went on line to Airbnb to cancel and a message appears to ask whether the booking is being cancelled by the owner and that if I cancel I may not receive all my payment. I copied this screen and offered to send it to the owner. Then there is a button which says "Request Owner to Cancel" which I did. I then receive a message from the owner saying " you should of done this I will have to pay a penalty". I found this rather rude considering the owner is cancelling the booking. Given that this place seemed to get good reviews it is a shame.
