The Truman Little White House, once the winter retreat of President Harry S. Truman, is now a meticulously restored museum offering guided tours. Originally built in 1890 as naval officers' quarters, this historic gem hosted pivotal meetings and shaped significant policies during Truman's presidency. Visitors can explore the very rooms where Truman convened with world leaders, gaining insight into his private life and presidential legacy.
Such a great stop in Key West! The Truman Little White House is full of history and really well preserved. The tour guides are amazing—friendly, funny, and full of knowledge that brings the place to life. It’s not just a museum; you actually feel like you’re stepping into Truman’s world. The house and gardens are beautiful, and it’s easy to see why he loved coming here. Definitely worth visiting!

Very interesting landmark that was the occasional residence of one of the most underrated presidents of the 20th century. You realize how important he was after taking the informative guided tour. I was in Key West to be destination wedding DJ&MC, and glad I stopped in after a recommendation from one of the guides at another nearby attraction. Take the guided tour that I believe leaves at the top and bottom of the hour. The gift shop is also very nice with a variety of merchandise at different price points. There could be better information provided on parking arrangements. The closest garage is the Opal Resort right next door, which is a little pricey, and they charge you for a full additional hour even if you go over by one minute. We parked at nearby Truman Waterfront Park, which is a bit of a walk, but also a scenic, hidden gem worth visiting. I enjoyed my visit here and you will too!

Loved this tour and the history lesson you get along with it. If you're lucky enough to get Bob as a your guide, he literally wrote the book on Truman's visits to Key West, and gave a wonderful tour. Some of the best parts of our week in Key West was learning the island history, and this place holds a lot of it. You get to see all the important parts of the house, that's been neatly and smartly restored. If you're spending any length of time on the island I think this is worth the hour or two for the tour. They do sell tickets for specific tour times, we bought them right at house. And you can bundle other tourist things at the same time.

✨ A Step Back in Time at Truman’s Little White House Visiting Truman’s Little White House in Key West was like stepping into a perfectly preserved time capsule. The moment you walk through the doors, you're immersed in a space that once served as the personal retreat and working residence for President Harry S. Truman. It’s incredible to see how this unassuming house played host to pivotal moments in American history. The rooms are filled with original furnishings and artifacts, offering a rare glimpse into the private lives of presidents and the dignitaries they welcomed. From Cold War strategy sessions to quiet moments of reflection, the house radiates the weight of decisions made within its walls. One of the highlights was seeing one of the first presidential limousines on site—an unexpected and fascinating touch that added to the authenticity of the experience. Whether you're a history buff or just curious about presidential life beyond Washington, this museum is a must-see. It’s not just a house—it’s a living story of leadership, diplomacy, and legacy.

A nice guided tour of this home which became the get-away spot for President Harry S. Truman. Our guide was very informed and shared some interesting bits of history. Great for understanding the significance of Truman's Presidency. The only disappointment was that they do not allow photography inside the home. I enjoyed seeing the Presidential limousine.
Lawrence M — Google review
Such a great view into history! Our tour guide, Bob, actually wrote a book about Harry Truman so he was a walking encyclopedia of information about the Little White House and Truman. The tour is about 45 minutes and you get plenty of time to read everything and ask questions. As an Agatha Christie fan, I was happy to see Mrs. Truman's reading choice!
R O — Google review
Bob is an amazing docent, and the house tour is so heart warming when you hear the personal stories of a president that made this his escape and the simplicity of what it was that he enjoyed there. Learn about a man that impacted history in so many ways in the small museum, very well laid out.

Such a cool place! We did not go inside because the tickets were very expensive for a family of 4, but the garden was beautiful! We got to see the classic car and walk around the gardens. It was a great little pit stop on an adventure downtown.

Specialty Museums
The Hemingway Home and Museum in Key West is a popular attraction known for its connection to the famous writer, Ernest Hemingway. Visitors can explore his studio, garden, and even encounter six-toed cats that are said to be descendants of his own feline companions. The museum is located in the beautifully restored timber home where Hemingway lived with his second wife, Pauline.
Visiting the home where lived for 8.5 years with his second wife, Pauline, in Key West was one of our favorite experiences on the island. Here are some highlights and tips from our visit: • Guided Tour: We had the pleasure of touring with Greg, who was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and passionate about Hemingway’s life and legacy. He shared fascinating stories about the house, the family, and Ernest Hemingway himself, which made the history come alive. • Favorite Fact: One of the most interesting things I learned is that Hemingway wrote 47 different endings to A Farewell to Arms. Hearing about his creative process and seeing where he lived and worked was cool. • Cats: The property is full of charm thanks to its many feline residents. We counted around 61 cats, many descendants of Hemingway’s own original 6-toed cat, which made the house feel like a living museum. • Dog Friendly: A nice bonus was being able to bring our small dog, only if we agreed to carry him the entire time we were on the property inside and outside the home. That seems fair given the home seems to belong to the cats! 🐈 • Overall Experience: The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum is more than just a historic house. It is a glimpse into the life of one of America’s greatest writers. We left with a deeper appreciation for Hemingway (and honestly, his four wives - especially Pauline, who kicked him out of this house after he cheated on her) and an unforgettable experience. Worth the visit! *We visited the last weekend of August (Labor Day weekend) which is in the off-season, so not sure how much more crowded it would be during peak season in Key West.
Magen O — Google review
The place is very nice. The house is very well maintained. There are plenty of cats, which Ernest loved so much. I recommend touring it. When you pay the entrance fee, they offer to let you know if you want a guide or not. Highly recommended.

Visited the Hemingway House in Key West on a weekend morning. It was busy but we didn’t have to wait, and we even had the spontaneous option to join a tour at no extra cost, though we chose to explore on our own. The house is beautiful, full of character, and the six- and seven-toed cats are everywhere — so fun to see and pet. You get a real sense of Hemingway’s life and times, making it easy to immerse yourself in his world. A truly special experience! I picked up a copy of The Old Man and the Sea at the gift shop and can’t wait to read it, so I’ll always have a lovely reminder of this trip. Highly recommend it to anyone visiting Key West!
Leonie T — Google review
Museum was one of the highlights of my trip to Key West. The house is beautifully preserved, full of charm and history. You can truly feel Hemingway's presence in every room - from his writing studio to the tropical gardens surrounding the property. The guided tour was informative, entertaining, and filled with fascinating stories about his life and the famous six-toed cats that still roam the grounds. Whether you're a literature lover or simply enjoy history and architecture, this place is a must-see. It's an unforgettable step back in time that captures the spirit of old Key West and one of America's greatest writers.
José R — Google review
This is a known gem of Key West and it is greatly preserved by the keepers. I wanted to specially highlight Greg who made our visit unforgettable. A professional tour guide on love with his job, he told us stories about Hemingway's life in this house and much more beyond. The place is full of cats surrounded by love and caress. About 60% of them are six-toed, c.6 kittens have 7 toes.
Matthias P — Google review
Wonderful, interesting visit to Hemingway house and grounds this afternoon. Everyone on staff was warm and our tour guide was ebullient and engaging. Lots of cats wandering around but the place didn’t smell like cat pee as some past reviews reported.
Derek H — Google review
Ok, I will admit I am a published author. However, in my defense, I was totally tortured on reading the "Old Man and The Sea" story way too many times in high school and college. I so hated that story. I even forced myself to read all his other stories and cannot say I was totally enthralled with any of them save for "Whom the Bell Tolls" and "Farewell to Arms." BUT!!!! I HAD TO SEE HIS HOUSE AND ALL THESE 6-TOED CATS!!!! So, with that said, I am impressed with the house and all the kitties! If I can't make it with my writing on my stories, I think I will just retire from it and take on the job as cat caretaker at the house. This is one of the top places a sightseer must visit while in Key West. Just remember "to write drunk, edit sober," said Earnest Hemmingway. -----Author C.A. McJack

Beautiful Home and Great Tour The Hemingway House is absolutely beautiful and full of fascinating history. Our tour guide, Rick, was excellent — knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about Hemingway’s life and legacy. He made the tour both informative and entertaining (especially the Taylor Swift analogy, I loved it!)Highly recommend visiting if you’re in Key West!

The Mel Fisher Maritime Museum, housed in a historic Navy storehouse, offers a captivating glimpse into Key West's maritime history. The museum showcases unique artifacts from four shipwrecks, including the Nuestra Senora de Atocha and the Santa Margarita lost in a 1622 hurricane. Visitors can explore relics obtained through undersea archaeology and learn about the city's overlooked maritime legacy.
The Mel Fisher Maritime Museum in Key West is a must-visit for anyone interested in history, treasure hunting, or maritime exploration. The exhibits tell the fascinating story of Mel Fisher and his discovery of the Spanish galleons, showcasing authentic artifacts like gold, silver, and jewelry recovered from shipwrecks. The museum does a great job blending history with adventure, making the experience both educational and exciting. The staff is knowledgeable, and the displays are well organized, giving visitors a real sense of the magnitude of these discoveries. A unique Key West attraction that combines history, treasure, and legend all in one place.
Robson C — Google review
Worth the visit! Very interesting. I was expecting a bit more focus on the ships and where each piece came from. A lot of items not related to his finds. African slave trade museum is upstairs. Mostly silver from the ships, coins, some cool jewelry. You can’t buy authentic coins there, just reproductions. Would have been nice to focus more on the ships than a general American history.
Lindsey H — Google review
Mel Fisher's Maritime Museum is a place where it's fun to learn all about pirates and treasures. The artifacts that are on display are so cool. The museum is also a place where you can learn about Mel Fisher's dream and how he wouldn't give up on it. It's a great story. It's absolutely worth a visit, and you'll have a great time.

This was an interesting visit in Key West. The price was reasonable and it wasn't huge. I recommend a visit while you are there.
George W — Google review
For those who enjoy history, this is an excellent museum. The info boards are well done, though some are repetitive. The items recovered are displayed well and have good labels with info. If you’re looking for a Disney story of a shipwreck, or a kid’s discovery center, this is not for you. However, everything is easy to read and understand. We truly enjoyed this museum, and subsequently went to the Mel Fisher’s Treasures store afterwards. The upstairs slave trade floor was also worth the visit. It had less items but plenty of info.

Exceptional maritime museum leant alot form here. We did the lab tour and it was amazingly informative. If you want any of the higher tour tickets I recommend booking in advance.

It is 4:18 PM, and the staff member at the entrance let us see her worst side. With a bad attitude, she said, "We are almost closed," and sent us back. After traveling over 400 miles to amaze our kids, we only had the opportunity to pep talk about manners and a positive attitude.

The Key West Shipwreck Museum offers a captivating experience with tours, artifacts, and films set in a recreated 1850s wrecker's warehouse. Visitors can immerse themselves in the tales of 400 years of shipwreck salvage in the Florida Keys through actors, films, and genuine artifacts.
We went to the KW Aquarium (also great) and admission to the Shipwreck Museum is included (bonus!). Unlike the Mel Fisher Museum, which is cool in its own right, there are a time more authentic items found from wrecks and not just museum replicas. You get a better sense of how the waterways operated (trade ships, piracy, etc) and it’s all set inside of a galleon. There are some informative videos, a real silver bar you can lift and feel, and countless cases full of artifacts and treasures. The tower walk gives in you a unique perspective on the island and is a great way to get some exercise on an otherwise flat island! Don’t forget to ring the bells on the way up and down! However, the absolute best part of this attraction is Capt. Joe, found on the second floor of the museum. What a superstar! He knows everything you can ask about, and does it all in character, and in a way that keeps even young kids interested. Jokes, and magic, and knowledge equals AWESOME!! We will def come back to visit Captain Joe and the Shipwreck Museum!
Deric P — Google review
The idea, location, and concept is pretty cool and totally islandy. Overall rating should be 4.3-4.5. It’s pretty quick your with children but very unique and cool. Lots to read and look at which I enjoy. The tower was our boys favorite part and amazing view! A little over priced but glad we went. Took about 30-40 minutes to go through and we would go back again. I recommend. It is dark inside so if you have a hard time seeing be careful and does have some steep stairs.
Brent — Google review
The Key West Shipwreck Museum was an interesting stop and worth visiting if you’re curious about the island’s maritime history. The museum is mostly self-guided, so you can explore at your own pace, but there is a staff member inside who shares some background and is available to answer questions. We found that part especially helpful—our guide clearly knew a lot and was happy to fill in details when we asked. The exhibits themselves give a good sense of what shipwreck salvaging meant for Key West and how it shaped the island’s past. There are plenty of artifacts on display, and we thought it was neat that they’ve recently added some new items that were just brought up. That helped the experience feel fresh and not like a static display. The museum also does a nice job of mixing in storytelling elements that make the history easier to imagine rather than just reading facts on a wall. One of the highlights is climbing the lookout tower at the end, which gives you a great view over the island and the water. There is also a live cam you can check out on their website and PTV YouTube that has the stream view from the top of that tower. Pretty cool. Overall, while it wasn’t my absolute favorite stop in Key West it is worth doing at least once, because it was definitely interesting, informative, and a nice way to spend an hour or so.
Magen O — Google review
Really cool experience for a history lover. More of a spot for the kiddos to enjoy. They have a tower to climb and I’d recommend you do climb it for the views at the top! Captain Joe was super sweet with everyone that walked into the museum. Quite small. 2 levels on the inside. 🏴‍☠️🫡
Victoria V — Google review
This was really a fun experience! Its small, but overflowing with artifacts and information. I loved the atmosphere! It was dark and ominous, exactly what you'd expect from a museum about ship wrecks. They have someone there to engage with you and answer all your questions. We didn't climbt the tower, but there's a beautiful view if you're willing to brave the stairs.
Sara W — Google review
Small. Not expensive. Iconic wooden building with a tower. Inside, it's a whole lot of items salvaged from shipwrecks. From elephant's tusks to remains of the Maine warship. The tower gives you an explendid view of KeyWest.
Ernesto V — Google review
A little pricey for the little bit that we do get to do. We couldn't climb the tower because the weather was bad and they didn't have much to offer inside. Nothing that really caught the kids attention. I feel like it was a great way to waste money lol. 😆

Lighthouses
History Museums
The Key West Lighthouse, located on Whitehead Street, has been a historic beacon since its construction in 1825. It served as a vital lifeline for sailors navigating the Florida Straits until it was decommissioned in 1969. Visitors can climb its 88 steps to reach the top and enjoy panoramic views of the island and surrounding turquoise waters. The lighthouse now operates as a museum, offering insight into Key West's seafaring past.
I'm a lonely lighthouse... The only inland lighthouse in the Keys is in Key West downtown kind of. Across from the Hemingway House is the entrance to the lighthouse grounds and keepers museum. Admission is $19 for adults. There are 88 spiral stairs up to the top of the lighthouse so if you are not in good health or have issues with climbing heights, it is not recommended to go up. If you are good, then expect a climb. The steps are narrow but there are two landings for a quick stop and if people are passing. The view from the top is great but "you will not be able to see Cuba". Yeah, that's on a sign at the lighthouse. Landmarks are marked on signage at the top as well. The Keepers museum is full of great artifacts and history and offers AC after you make your climb down from the lighthouse. There's a nice gift shop and the restrooms are located in there also. The ladies that work during the day are helpful, friendly and informative. They enjoy talking with guests. I highly recommend visiting.
Ben E — Google review
Things to note, there's no parking in site. There's only one narrow spiraling wrought iron staircase up about 100 ft which you'll have to share with 2 way traffic. So, if you have a fear of heights or small space, you might have issues. Try to ascend and descend when no one is on it. It's a fair experience if you must claim the highest point of any location (as I must). But for better cheaper views, I'd recommend the top of one of the forts. Not worth it, not not worth it. So, you'll have to decide if worth it. Might be best to just take a photo of it. It's a beautiful lighthouse. The museum is minimal and barely worth the time to experience i think.
HA R — Google review
A Worthwhile Climb with a Rewarding View. The Key West Lighthouse Museum offers a unique glimpse into the island's maritime history. The climb to the top can be a bit strenuous, but the panoramic views of Key West and the surrounding ocean are well worth the effort. You'll gain a fantastic perspective on the island's layout and appreciate its coastal beauty. The museum itself is informative, showcasing the lives of the lighthouse keepers and their families. The exhibits provide context to the lighthouse's role in guiding ships and ensuring safe passage. Visitors often find the stories of the keepers fascinating, offering a personal connection to the lighthouse's history. Highlights: Panoramic Views: The breathtaking views from the top are a major draw. Historical Insight: The museum provides valuable information about the lighthouse's history and the lives of the keepers. Well-Maintained: The lighthouse and grounds are generally well-kept, adding to the overall experience. Things to Consider: The Climb: Be prepared for a climb up a spiral staircase. It may not be suitable for those with mobility issues. Crowds: The lighthouse can get crowded, especially during peak season. Consider visiting during off-peak hours. Cost: While not overly expensive, the entry fee is something to factor into your budget. Overall: The Key West Lighthouse Museum is a worthwhile attraction for those interested in history, maritime heritage, and stunning views. It's a relatively quick visit, but one that offers a unique perspective on Key West's past and present. If you're able to handle the climb, the view from the top is an unforgettable experience.
Luis W — Google review
What a cool place to check out. We got here on a Tuesday morning at 10 am. No wait time, no line. The tickets are cheaper online. I definitely recommend buying them in advance. Might save some money especially if you’re going with friends and family. The museum at the property was informative and interesting. Picked out a few souvenirs on the way out from the gift store. Definitely recommend it!
A C — Google review
Once a waterfront staple on a rocky fossilized coral outcropping, this lighthouse is now blocks away from the water due to dredging the outer shoreline & expanding the island landmass. It is preserved nicely, and you can go to the top of the light tower which is high enough to have a great view of the surrounding area. There is an admission fee to enter.
Fritz F — Google review
We love visiting lighthouses in our travels, the Key West lighthouse with its history and museum is a must-see stop when you go to The Conch Republic. Tickets have discounts for military, seniors, first responders and active duty! Five star 360 view cannot be beat.

A quaint little gem in Key West, that's worth the stop. Beatiful piece of property and history. Truly enjoyed being able to walk up to the top, the view worth it! A wonderful little shop as well. They do carry waters and other drinks.
Charlene H — Google review
We did just the gift shop stop and walked the outside grounds to read the signage and history of the place. My body is at an age after hip surgery that it will not tolerate too many steps up. But I think it is a must for families to learn a little history and to see all of Key West from that height!

The Audubon House & Tropical Gardens is a restored residence that offers a serene atmosphere and showcases the works of John James Audubon. Originally built by Captain John Huling Geiger in the 1840s, it was once home to one of Key West's wealthiest families. Today, it serves as a museum featuring artistic displays, a charming tropical garden, and rare plant species. The house is adorned with period furnishings, creating an enchanting ambiance during both day and night.
We had the opportunity to select the Audubon House and Tropical gardens as our wedding ceremony and reception venue this past June. The gardens and historic house were a perfect backdrop to our event. The Audubon staff not only made planning a breeze but helped to facilitate a seamless event. Highly recommend anyone traveling to Key West visit the Audubon House and anyone think about hosting an event consider this beautiful venue.

I felt this place was a more of a historical site than a tropical garden. Learning about the history of the house and the story behind it was nice to learn. It’s cool looking at all the old stuff. The guide was nice and knowledgeable about the history. You get a short background from the guide then you are able to wander the property at your own pace.
Kristy — Google review
I'm shocked that more people don't wander in to this fantastic island of civility and calm in the middle of Key West's most touristy district. It's an old wrecker's house house that actually has very little to do with Audoban, other than the fact that a branch from a tree on the property made it into one of his paintings. It's a great, shady, green filled place to linger in for a while when you need a dose of culture or a porch to rock on for a while.

Beautiful, well decorated and maintained house with a neat history. The grounds are interesting and maintained for the period it was used. There’s a room decorated on the top floor for those who like maximalism. The gardens are stunning and the gift shop has cool stuff and Audubon art. My favorite house in Key West!

Lovely home w/ antiques and Audubon art, cookhouse, restrooms, gardens, etc... The gardens are a sweet little haven out of the sun and craziness with orchids and other flora. The guides were very knowledgeable about it's history & super friendly. It has an amazing gift shop onsite as well!

Audubon House and Tropical Gardens in #KeyWest #Florida is a fitting tribute to one of history’s greatest naturalists and artists, John James Audubon. Known for his groundbreaking work The Birds of America, Audubon was a 19th-century ornithologist, painter, and explorer whose illustrations of birds captured their beauty and ecological importance like never before. 🦜❤️ Audubon’s connection to the house is tied to his 1832 visit to Key West, where he explored the island and documented 22 new species of birds. His meticulous artwork not only showcased the vibrant diversity of North American birdlife but also raised awareness about the natural world, inspiring early conservation efforts. 🇺🇸🤍 The museum highlights this legacy with an incredible collection of prints and artifacts, including the vibrant top-floor gallery adorned with bird illustrations and floral accents that reflect his passion for the environment. Audubon’s influence endures through the National Audubon Society, which continues his mission of bird conservation and habitat preservation. 💐🌻💙 🖼️ 🎭

Beautiful restored house built in 1850s’. A lot of personal artifacts to show that period of time (those furnitures belong to Geiger family show at the top floor) . A lot of Audubon’s works hanging on the wall, the bird room is unique and whimsical, which my kids adored a lot. The detached cookhouse is interesting to see, looks authentic though it’s indeed replica. Scrolling in the tropic garden, while taking photos of the beautiful orchards, or watching the dancing butterflies, made us feel away from the bustle and hustle of Key west. Our tour guide gave us a short introduce and we wandered around for another 1 hour. The gift shop is the prettiest I have ever seen. This is a special place, we love it!

The Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory is a delightful escape for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature. Located on Duval Street, this enchanting sanctuary features a glass-enclosed habitat filled with over 60 species of butterflies and 20 exotic bird varieties. As you stroll through the lush surroundings adorned with vibrant flowers and soothing waterfalls, you'll feel as if you've stepped into a tropical paradise.
Amazingly beautiful place. Love the mission to conserve butterflies and nature! Loved seeing the butterflies, flamingos, birds, and the tortoise. Inspired me to recreate a place like this one day! If you have small children you may need to carry them or use a stroller (if allowed) as you cannot touch any of the wildlife!!! Or worth saving the trip for when they are older.

We visited The Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory as a family, and it truly impressed us with its amazing atmosphere, beautiful butterflies, and colorful birds. This conservatory is definitely worth a visit — you and your family will leave full of positive energy! We arrived right when they opened in the morning, and there were very few people, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I recommend coming early to fully enjoy the calm and magical atmosphere. You can also purchase souvenirs, and the ticket prices are very reasonable.

Just…wow! Sixty one varieties of butterflies. Small beautiful birds everywhere, two flamingoes, turtles, and plenty of informational displays. Fantastic staff, all friendly and knowledgeable. We liked it so much, we went and had lunch and came back to walk through again, which your admission generously allows. Be aware, you are a visitor in their world, so it is hot and humid, but the gift shop and entry space are nicely air conditioned. A true gem to experience.

A must see attraction in Key West. You walk through an indoor, humidity controlled garden where hundreds of butterflies fly around you. We had a few to land on us as we walked through. A nice peaceful place to visit. Staff is friendly, polite, and courteous! We enjoy our visit!

I was so happy to finally get to go and I was not disappointed! It wasn’t as big as I thought it would be but there was plenty to see and watch and look at! There are benches to sit if needed and you can stay as long as you want. I also liked that the tickets are a day entrance so if you leave and can come back in if you want. Loved the gift store too!

I have been wanting to visit for 3 years! What an amazing experience!! This was my 1st stop in Key West and definitely did not disappoint. The butterflies are everywhere flying all around you. It was such a cool experience. One landed on my back where my hat was hanging and the employee helped get it around so I could carry it throughout the gardens. The flamingos were so cool and even did a happy dance for everyone to see. I would 100% recommend.

This Eco-Discovery Center is informative, interactive, and fun....just don't expect kids to be too entertained. The information is as fun and playful as it can be, but it wasn't entertaining enough for my kids to last more than 15 minutes before they asked us to leave. There plenty of parking, it's free on Fridays, and I had fun. I would come again by myself next time.

This is definitely one our favorite places to visit in Key West. It’s free on Friday and Saturday, 9AM - 4PM. Donation is always welcome. Large parking lot is in the front. 1-2 hours is minimal. The staff was very helpful and passionate to share anything about Florida eco system, as well as general Florida visiting tips. The space is divided into different sections, focusing on different themes, while being consistent about environmental protection education. Both my kids and I learned a lot about four diverse natural habitats within Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, from the interactive exhibitions. We had a great time here, Highly recommended.

The Key West Museum of Art & History at the Custom House is housed in a grand, four-story red brick building dating back to 1891. It was originally the city's post office and is now a museum showcasing an impressive permanent collection of 35,000 pieces that depict the area's history through various mediums such as postcards, photos, textiles, and paintings. The museum also features works by playwright Tennessee Williams.
This is a little jewel of a museum. Housed in the old custom house the museum has art installations on the first floor and historical artifacts on the second. Both are real treasures and worth the visit. We gave five google stars and four clams on the coveted Five Quahog Rating Scale.

What an amazing place!!! There is such a rich history in Key West! They switch artist exhibits every few months. I went when the Mario Sanchez works were displayed. I thought they were perfectly Key West! The story of the old man and the fish going up the stairs was beautifully done. The bathrooms were clean and even their architecture was beautiful. I will definitely be back.

It was a great joy visit this Museum. If you like to know more Florida History then stop by here . A huge variety of art pieces; I navigated through past centuries an I discovered a wide selection of things that I ignored; from wall art painting to a punch of nails that were used for boats construction. Trust me, I recommend this Museum of History.

This place is my favorite attraction in Key West. With the frequent addition of new temporary exhibits, one can easily visit several times a year and see/learn something new each time. The gift shop has some really interesting and unique items. After exploring the museum, it's nice to sit on the giant porch for a few minutes to relax and watch the world go by.

Title: "A Journey through Time at the Key West Art and History Museum" ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Key West Art and History Museum, located in the grand Richardsonian Romanesque building, is an enchanting haven for history and art enthusiasts alike. My visit to this magnificent place was before the pandemic, yet the memories of the enriching experience are still fresh. The museum in the former U.S. Custom House built in 1891 is a splendid example of preserving the past while enlightening the present. It holds an impressive collection of over 25,000 objects narrating Key West's vibrant history and culture, making the past resonate with the gift most engagingly. The narrative woven by these artifacts paints a vivid picture of Key West's journey from its humble beginnings as a trading post to its emergence as a sought-after tourist spot of the 20th century. A unique feature that piqued my interest was the rotating exhibits, each showcasing distinct pieces of art and artifacts from across the globe. My favorite was an exhibit detailing Key West's maritime history - a mesmerizing dive into the depths of time guaranteed to leave any history buff in awe. The museum isn't just a place; it's an experience. It's a walk through the tapestry of time, every corner revealing a new facet of Key West's rich heritage. The setting itself, the old Customs House, is an exquisite architectural art. One can feel the echoes of the past in its corridors, making the exploration even more immersive. Another commendable aspect of this museum is its inclusivity. It provides a rich experience for adults, children, and seniors at discounted prices to ensure history is accessible to all. In addition, the museum's wheelchair accessibility proves that they have indeed paid attention to every visitor's need. The Key West Art and History Museum is an intriguing blend of art, history, and culture. It isn't just a museum; it's a time machine into Key West's past and an experience not to be missed.

Small but nice little museum. I thought the place would be more historic to the whole island 🏝 including pre-European settlement and maybe some geologic insight. Although they do provide historic information, it's not entirely what I thought.
Jay C — Google review
Visited about a week ago to view the museum's permanent exhibit (showcasing Florida's history) and the WPA artists exhibit. This museum was heavy on the historical material while featuring little artwork of artistic merit. The featured artist exhibit was very disappointing. Despite these shortcomings, finding this museum in Key West was a nice hidden treasure. The employees were also very kind.

The Southernmost Point of the Continental U.S.A. is marked by a colorful concrete buoy located at the tip of Key West, Florida, just 90 miles north of Cuba. It's a popular spot for tourists to take selfies and is considered one of the most photographed places in Key West. Visitors can join walking tours to learn more about the history and culture of this area or indulge in a food and cultural experience.
The Southernmost Point definitely feels touristy, but it still felt like a real accomplishment — especially since we’ve been to the northernmost point of the U.S. before, and this trip was a full road trip all the way from Massachusetts! Parking can be a bit tricky to find, but once you're there, the surrounding area is beautiful with stunning blue waters. There are plenty of food options and souvenir shops nearby, and Hemingway’s House is just a short walk away. A fun and meaningful stop, especially if you enjoy checking iconic landmarks off your list!

Had to make a stop. This is one of the most iconic points in the United States. Thousands visit every year, and it’s pretty cool to say I’ve been here. There was a short, self organized line of folks taking turns snapping photos for each other, which was refreshing to see. A little shimmer of humanity, people helping strangers just because. The site itself is nice, but it could use some love. The grounds felt a bit tired and would benefit from more cleaning and maintenance. It seems to be locally supported and maintained, but it really deserves recognition and funding at the state or even federal level. Great spot. Have fun and don’t forget the sunblock.

Visiting the Southernmost Point of the Continental U.S. has been on my bucket list for years, and I finally made it! The experience didn’t disappoint. The line moved quickly, and it wasn’t overly crowded, making it easy to enjoy the moment and snap some great photos. Standing there, just 90 miles from Cuba, felt surreal and well worth the stop if you’re in Key West. A must-visit landmark for anyone exploring the area!

The Southernmost Point & Buoy in Key West is a fun, iconic spot marking the U.S.’s southernmost point. I visited in September 2025, hitting it early at 6:30 AM for crowd-free photos. It’s free, open 24/7, and easy to reach by foot or bike, though parking’s tight. The colorful buoy screams Key West charm. Fun, quick memorable stop. Perfect for a classic Keys photo. A must-do!

Nice place to have a drive with family. But it’ll be more convenient if you can plan to book a hotel ahead of trip. Enjoy the vibrant night life there by visiting bar and restaurants. The scenic road drive is must have.

It is indeed closed off for repairs. My visit and photo (with the replica) is current as of 9/6/25 at 6pm! The replica is at the block just before where the real monument is, next to Emma Crates pier. I’ve attached a google satellite image of where the replica is for reference. Nevertheless, replica is still a good photo opp, and then you can walk to the end of the pier for another pic haha.

As you can see from the photos the place has everything that you need: bar with everything on the beach, kiosk with beach rentals, a nice park to cool from the heat of the sun, tables to enjoy your picnic. Wow!

This is a cool spot and even if you don't take a picture.. you should do drive by. If you do want a photo, there can be a line waiting, so early morning is best. There is usually some street parking nearby, but you may have to park a distance back and walk a bit. Be prepared to take photos for others as they will help you out as well.. Here was my image...

The Key West Aquarium is a top attraction in the area, offering visitors an interactive experience with indigenous marine life. Visitors can touch horseshoe crabs, sea urchins, and sea stars in the touch tank and enjoy guided tours to learn about the undersea realm surrounding the Florida Keys. The aquarium also provides opportunities to interact with rays, nurse sharks, moray eels, barracuda, and sea turtles.
Friendly and informative staff! It definitely shows its beauty of being the oldest aquarium in Florida. Very cozy atmosphere with lots of cool aquatic life on display. It appears they are improving some of the facilities in rear of complex but was still cool to feed the fish. Look forward to returning in future! 🐟🐠🐡❤️✌️

One of my favorite things I did in key west. Very small but had lots of shows you could watch for each sea animal. Definitely recommend. The bracelets are good for two days. Noah was the speaker and the information we got about the turtles was very interesting. Glad we got to go and learn.

This is the cutest aquarium I've ever been to. Perfect for children. Sarah Beth was so kind and knowledgeable. You can tell this is her passion. We absolutely loved our visit. Families with young kids should check it out!
Erin F — Google review
Small (unless there were other areas that we didn't find), but nice aquarium. It was cool to see 3 (out of the 4 that they have I think) different species of sea turtle, up close and personal. There weren't a ton of different types of other exhibits -- the fish tanks were mostly similar sizes all in one gallery around the sea turtle tanks -- and the only sharks (that we found at least) were nurse sharks in a pretty cool outdoor exhibit -- but we enjoyed what we saw.
Nathan W — Google review
Very underwhelming, very small, the smallest aquarium I’ve been to. Several exhibits were closed or broken or under construction. The gift shop was almost as many square feet as the aquarium. The aquarium is basically just a big room with a bunch of small tanks and three pools with a couple of sea turtles. They had a total of 4 sea turtles and 3 tiny alligators and one very small touch pond. They didn’t have very many other interactive exhibits. The ticket lady was nice but when we asked about AAA or reciprocity with our zoo membership, she said no they didn’t do any discounts but did explain the offer for buying multiple attractions. The tour guide Raini was fantastic. He alone deserves 10 stars. He was super knowledgeable and you can see that he has a great passion for the animals and what he does. As far as attractions in Key West go, this one was not the best. We had a good time, it was just super small for what we paid.
Dennis M — Google review
The staff are very friendly, informative and knowledgeable. The history of the aquarium is presented well and they have sea turtles and the local marine life on display. If vacationing in the area I would highly recommend going and seeing this attraction. They have everything from sea turtles to nurse sharks and the staff run shows nearly hourly.
Drew W — Google review
I went here when I visited Key West and I was surprised at how small it was. It was around $20 for adult admission but you can go back the next day with your wristband and see it again for free. There is a touch tank and shows where they feed the nurse sharks and tarpon. There was about 10 or so tanks in the aquarium ranging from octopuses to just regular local fish. And in the middle they had some huge sea turtles. I only spent about 30 minutes there because there wasn't much to see. Then when you leave they have an extensive gift shop with tons of souvenirs. I'll give it a 4/5.

Cemetery
Sights & Landmarks
Key West Cemetery, established in 1847 after a hurricane destroyed the original cemetery, is a historic burial ground with ornate tombs and grave stones. It contains sections dedicated to different faiths and ethnicities, including Jewish and Roman Catholic areas, as well as memorials for Cuban martyrs and sailors from the USS Maine. Despite its somber reputation, the cemetery is known for its unique charm and humor found in some of the headstone engravings.
If you have time to visit it's a neat cemetery to walk through. It's divided into sections, there's lots of Iguanas and chickens living in here so don't get spooked. Most graves weren't that old but still worth visiting and memorilizing if you have time.

I rented a bicycle for the week to be able to explore Key West and the above Florida Keys, early in the morning to early afternoon. Someone that enjoys walking around Key West suggested that I should visit Key West Cemetery. Open minded and respecting the Souls of the Dead, I rode my bicycle entering the cemetery. I rode here and there, observing the variety of sizes and heights of the burial plots. Vhuntermassage LLC

Off the beaten path. Interesting history of the island. Bring water if you are going to be walking, it gets hot, and you won't want to leave once you get moving. Graves go back to the early 1800s. I would recommend taking a tour of available but I have not been able to find one.

Super weird to review a cemetery. It's quite lovely. Go if you have the time.
Nicole B — Google review
Why visit a cemetery? This one is unique. Many of the graves are above ground in vaults, and some of the sites have the typical Key West laid-back vibe. Be sure to take a brochure if you can't take the guided tour. It will tell you where to find some of the more interesting headstones, and famous people.
Dennis S — Google review
Very cool historic cemetery open to the public. I'm from the Midwest and don't often see above-ground graves, so this was unique. The path throughout the cemetery is well-paved and clear. Lots of lizards hanging out here and some beautiful monuments. I also spotted the first headstone I've ever seen that appeared to be hand-written in the cement.

I have spent days in the Key West Cemetery over the years - early morning, during the day and in the sunset hours … the Key West Cemetery offers solemn moments, laughter, history and visions of art … the cemetery is filled with memories of so many Key West Characters - the memories I have selected are a mere few of so many memories … the baby that was born the last day of 1965 and died the 1st day of 1966 captured my heart … “Pearl” the hypochondriac whose marker says “I Told You I Was Sick”,l is a classic attraction … the ARTist metal-work fencing and ARTist monument structures attract my attention … the iguanas that live above ground and under many grave stones add LIFE to the cemetery … joggers will use the paths, visitors will walk about attending to their relatives and planes from the Key West airport will occasionally break the silence of the cemetery - there is LIFE in this place … I would be honored to have the Key West Cemetery share the memory of “Run-A-Way Bill” when my time comes - not so much my physical remains as leave a unique memory that would make people smile … I have learned that “we die twice” - the 1st time when our body goes and the second and final time when “the last person alive says our name out loud” … 13.24.23 Saturday Christmas Eve’s Eve ——- The Key West Cemetery is alive with history, one-of-a-kind grave markers since 1847 (& a couple transferred from old Key West Cemetery, various lizards, roosters & chickens, strolling visitors, international airport jets flying low overhead (landing approach). Still an active cemetery, including cemetery tours or self-tour maps. Admiring the unique headstones/foot-stones, humorous quotes, “Remember the Maine” disaster memorial, plus will take hours, if not weeks. A “Run-A-Way Bill” Favorite Key West attraction. 03.21.19

It seems odd to review a cemetery, but this is a must see when touring Key West. Sad but interesting to see the above ground burials and the varying levels of caretaking and the breadth of people who have been laid to rest here. You will experience a range of emotions as you walk from the section where 59 unknown babies were sponsored and buried, to the section where many adorned their placards with verses that will make you laugh (ex: “I always said I would own a small piece of land in The Keys”). Well worth an hour or so of your time.

I finally visited this museum after walking past many times and not realizing what it was. This is a beautifully preserved home and garden right on Duval Street. It is a non-profit organization that relies on funding from it's amazing gift shop, donations and admissions. Ann-Marie was working when I visited and we shared many conversations about her history in Key West as well as extensive knowledge of the home/museum. I was also lucky enough to meet Barbara, the curator and learn a bit more about the history of the house, which is fascinating. Please stop in and support this beautiful piece of Key West history. Wow, where to begin! We arrived on a Sunday morning, and we were quickly greeted by several roosters. It was around 10 am, and we practically had the place to ourselves. We entered, and a gentleman welcomed us. I want to say his name is Steve. Although I could be mistaken. You could tell immediately that he loved his job. He is the main reason for this review... and we were so grateful to talk with him before and after we completed our trek throughout. Upon our beginning, we stumbled upon an old dugout canoe. It was mesmerizing to think, this was actually used at one point in time. As we proceeded, we turned the corner and saw Robert The Doll. Out of respect, I didn't photograph him... however, we did leave him a handwritten note. Next to Robert is an old Casket carriage. In the reflection of the carriage glass appeared a sinister face, which we can't explain. We also felt a heaviness on our chest when entering the citadel, and as soon as we exited, it dissipated. Think what you will... but we believe. This is a visit you mustn't miss. ✌🏼

Let me start by saying the communication with staff before I booked was amazing via text message. All my questions were answered in a timely manner and very welcoming. Any expectations I had of this experience before coming in went above and beyond. Dan filled us with lots of really cool history along paranormal stories and his experiences, while Eric being there to assist and gave us the tools needed for our experience. Both were super nice and really just easy to talk with and never made me feel silly about my experience in any way. While I didn’t get to tell them everything, they were both ready willing to help and talk in any way. I was very surprised by the outcome. Robert, while his presence and story is no doubt an experience in itself, he is what you make him to be. I’ll leave it at that. The Fort alone is another animal entirely. Worth the trip and money. It is something I will never forget. Thanks for an amazing evening!

We visited the museum back in 2016. Yes, it was a while ago, but we still wanted to leave a review since we actually visited the location twice that year. Although we loved the ghost tour that took us into and around the building at night, there were just too many people on the tour for us to get up close and personal with items (especially Robert the Doll) during the night tour. We decided to go back again the following day and arrived when the museum first opened up for the day. It was a beautiful day out, so most visitors must have been off to the beaches or enjoying the weather, so we were the only ones in the museum. It was a great experience to spend some alone time with Robert. We didn't have to pay to go into the museum since the entrance price was included with our ghost tour pricing the night before. We made sure to spend some time (and money) in the gift shop to help support the museum... oh, and to get our own replica of Robert.

It is an historic place and nice to see. The beach is awesome. Means, at first you can walk through the fort and afterwards to the beach. There is also an guide tour available for free.

I am not going to lie. I was so scared to come here. It was REALLY hot in here. The property was beautiful. While visiting Robert my right knee felt like it was going to give away. It was shaky for the rest of the day. I am not sure if it’s a coincidence or not. I probably won’t go back because I am still leery. Also, the guy who worked the front desk from Pennsylvania was so sweet. He was a pleasure to meet and did help calm me prior to entering.

I’ve been visiting the keys for the last thirty years and accidentally stumbled across this fort last year when I drove around the backside of Key West. I put it on the list of sights for this year. Steve greeted me at the entrance and was very enthusiastic about sharing info on the layout of the fort and presentations. It included lots of Key West history from the indigenous people all the way up to artist Stanley Papio.
Savannah D — Google review
Took an Uber here on our cruise stop. We came specially to see Robert the Doll. I wasn’t sure what to expect but received no warnings about the doll and its history. Nowhere did I see we weren’t supposed to take pictures of him. Thankfully I didn’t. We did visit the doll and the room he is encased in. We viewed exhibits and history plaques from the fort itself. The grounds that the museum is on are beautifully kept and maintained. There is a gift shop at the fort as well that sells Robert the Doll merchandise and some other stuff. There is a beautiful view from the top of the fort as well as some fun and quirky sculptures to look at throughout the museum.

Heard that Robert the Doll was here, so I had to visit and see him. I can say it went well. Also saw the Otto family house where the doll is from.

If you find yourself in Key West, make sure not to miss the Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square. This nightly event has been a tradition since the 1960s and features a vibrant atmosphere with entertainers such as jugglers, tight-rope walkers, psychics, and musicians vying for attention. One of the highlights is Dominique and his 'flying' cats. Additionally, local artists display their hand-crafted silver jewelry, painted t-shirts, and underwater photography.
Beautiful place to sit and relax watching the sunset. Enjoy a meal or a drink just hanging out. We took the dinner sunset cruise.

Absolutely amazing! We go here every time we can! Live shows, great atmosphere, and the most beautiful sunsets ever!!! This place is your heaven 💗

Best spot to watch sunset in Key west. Perfect photography location. This place gets pretty crowded so get there well in advance to get a good spot. The sail boats silhouette with the setting sun at the background creates a memorable sunset scene! Awesome must visit area.
Roy — Google review
Enjoyed this more than I expected. A LOT of people and a bit of a carnival atmosphere with street performances. Folks will clear out before the sunset is over. We bought Wendys carryout and ate sitting on the brick steps while watching the sunset. View of the sunset is marred by the concrete piers where the big cruise ships dock. I doubt that the cruise ships are ever there when the sun is setting, though, so it is a nice place for a sunset.

I didn't even know that this place existed. I was visiting the area with a group of people. It was brought to her attention that many patrons love to sit and bear witness to the end of day sunset here. After waiting what seemed an eternity, the sunset finally came, and I must say it was absolutely beautiful. I'm so glad we were in the area, and we got to see the sunset. If you're in the area at the end of the day, I would absolutely recommend this place!
Shay W — Google review
Maybe it's just change as time passes, or maybe that I'm getting older, but the celebrations in past years (over 40 years, off and on) seemed more lively and festive, with numerous performers and big crowds. This week's celebrations didn't have many performances and vendors far outnumbered them. It's always good, though, when the actual sunset is colorful and bright.

Duval St is a bustling and vibrant hub in Key West, where tourists and locals mingle among eateries, bars, shops, and live music venues. The street runs from one side of the island to the other and is lined with art galleries, historic mansions, restaurants, and bustling shops. It's known for its lively atmosphere and is considered the main place to drink, dine, and go out on the island.
So much to do and see. Do a little research before arriving. Plenty of places to eat, drink and people watch.

Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park in Key West is a 54-acre National Historic Landmark that offers a blend of history, nature, and beach activities. The park features a pre-Civil War fortress, beautiful beaches where visitors can enjoy sunrise and sunset views, and diverse wildlife. Nature trails provide opportunities to observe native wildflowers and birdwatching, while snorkeling allows exploration of the underwater ecosystem with colorful coral reefs.
I love visiting state parks, and this was my first time at Fort Zachary Taylor—it did not disappoint! I thoroughly enjoyed everything about it, from the shaded picnic areas to the beautiful beach. Be sure to bring water shoes, as it’s quite rocky when getting into the water. The fort itself was fascinating to explore, with lots of history to take in. It’s also a fantastic spot to watch the sunset. There was plenty of parking and the restrooms were clean and well-maintained. A peaceful, scenic place to spend the day in Key West!
Maria C — Google review
The fort itself is pretty neat. Ocean Breeze making the heat more tolerable. Be careful in the water and be sure to check the color of the flag indicating level of hazard. If you swim next to the Rocks you will see a lot of colorful fish. Several times I would see a dozen go by and sometimes some very large ones as well. Had a pelecan land by me about 3 feet away and chilled next to me. If water is rough though it can push you into the rocks and scratch up so be careful. Lots of shade with picknic tables. 2.50 a person by bike.
Brent J — Google review
In Key West, many people miss visiting this hidden gem — a perfect combination of beach and historic fort! The white sand and peaceful surroundings make it a wonderful place to relax and explore. While the water isn’t ideal for swimming, the scenery and calm atmosphere are worth the visit. If you’re near Miami and want to enjoy a quiet, scenic, and slightly wild beach experience, this is definitely the place to be!”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I visited Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park in Key West and absolutely loved it. It’s a beautiful place where history and nature come together. The fort is fascinating to explore and offers spectacular ocean views. The beach is peaceful, with clear turquoise water perfect for swimming or snorkeling. There are also plenty of shaded areas to relax and enjoy a picnic. It’s the perfect spot to spend the day, learn a bit of history, and take in the natural beauty of Key West. 🌞🏝️📸

Great beach area to relax and enjoy. Chair and umbrella rentals available. Full snack bar serving a multitude of lunch items and drinks. Snorkeling right from the beach on several rock reefs; many great fish swimming on the reefs.
Butt W — Google review
I had a few hours in the afternoon and wanted to get some snorkeling in before sunset. This beach was less than 10 minutes away from my hotel on Duval by bike, and the gear rental crew in the beach had me in the water in no time. I had no idea that such a complete beach experience with fantastic snorkeling was so easily available. The site is complete with beach rentals (chairs, umbrellas, snorkel gear, etc), a food stand, picnic tables, souvenirs, bathrooms, and outdoor showers. There a fee for using the park, but it very reasonable ($2.50 for one in a bike). In the water I saw arguably nearly as many fish on the rocks as in did scuba diving in the reef. As a matter of fact I only saw a shark and ray here as opposed to the reef. The bulk of the fish were found in the west rock pile which is close to the edge of the beach and nearer to the boat traffic and possibility of more current, so practice caution if you don’t have much experience in the water. The current can also force you into the rocks if you’re not careful, so better to stay to the east if there is any concern. If you time your day right you can stroll over to the sunset beach when that time arrives, but that the park closes after the sun drops.
Aaron C — Google review
We visited funds that, so the only thing we did was play in the ocean and watched the sunset. So I cannot comment as to the for or other things on the premise. However, this speech was definitely the most beautiful on the entire island of Key West. It was very blue and clear highly highly recommend checking out this beach! It does cost $2.50 per person to enter via a car, and the ticket guards stay there until 8 PM when it closes, so don’t expect to come a little late to get in for free.

The ship is a piece of who we are as America's greatest defender against injustices to our land and others. The historic missions introductory snippets of how our military lived and sacrificed for our country's freedom. Going through the entire ship, immersing yourself at the moment in time brings you to your true patriotic core. We must never forget our American soldiers and what they went through. This ship is still fighting to keep its memory alive. Sign the guest book, take the tour, and discover the presidential room, captains quarters, first officer, petty officers barracks. The ship had alot of the historical subjects showing the life onboard a vessel like this and trying to give the visitors an authentic way to see it. At the welcome part: Would have been nice to get more info verbally other than the brochures and guided in the correct way. A must - if passing it.

It is great that they preserved this historic and highly decorated shop. The self-guided tour takes you through the ship and its like a taking a step back in time. The Curry Mansion Inn in Key West offers a refined bed and breakfast experience with elegant rooms and suites. The inn, built in 1869 by Florida's first millionaire, is steeped in history and features a stately Victorian-era structure with antique furnishings. Guests can enjoy daily cocktail parties by the outdoor pool.
If you've never been to Key West, do some research. You'll find accommodations at huge hotels, privately owned inns, and others. I did a lot of research and found that Curry Mansion offered all that we needed and more. You can book online or phone. You'll get the info you need via text or email. Very convenient! No need to stop by a desk to check in or out. Room was great. We stayed in the pool annex. Good size until and had the usual amenities. And the pool isn't big but big enough. Towels and a washer and dryer are located by the pool, too. Location, location, location. Just a half block off Duval, right in back of Fogarty's bar and restaurant. Sure, some noise but we slept well. Parking is limited and there is a decent amount of it. Look for parking on the side of the Mansion as well as up front. Ans it's free. First come first served. No room service that I know about but they do operate a small bar. But, heck, you are close to many restaurants, so explore! Now....prices. Cheaper than the big box hotels, which are farther away. Definitely recommend.
Kevin S — Google review
Terrible maintenance and no hotel personnel. Bathroom sink had no stopper. Shelf missing in the bathroom. Peeling paint everywhere outside. Water pressure was terrible. Water wasn’t warm enough. Electrical plugs were broken or not secured. Receptacle plates were missing. Blinds don’t work. Dirty carpets. Exterior Wood trim coming off on various spots around the property. Storing luggage in the public dining room is ridiculous when no one to protect your stuff. Wallpaper in the main building coming off. Termite and powder post beetle damage in the fancy woodwork that should have been repaired in the main house. Room needs painted. The room I booked online with pretty woodwork and wood floors was far from what I got. Our room was in the adjacent building with carpet and painted woodwork. Not even close to how we were misrepresented or bait and switch with the room. The picture online of the room we booked wasn’t even close to what we got. I should have read the reviews before I booked. Run fast. Way more places better than this for the money. Terrible room for my birthday. Will never stay there again.
JASON K — Google review
Abysmal. Curry Mansion has a lot of history. I stayed here in the 90’s with my parents when it was a family-friendly bed and breakfast. Those days are long gone. Now you’re lucky if you don’t get woken up in the wee hours by trashy people fighting over who-knows-what (drugs? money? baby momma drama? Take your guess!) by the pool. The location is convenient, but I’d personally rather go somewhere better (and cleaner) farther out for the same price. I should also mention that there isn’t any staff to help. You’re on your own, or you can email and wait about a day for a response.
Jennifer J — Google review
Having previously stayed twice at the Curry Mansion Inn when it was still owned by the Curry family, my husband and I had no hesitation in booking a deluxe king room with balcony for our recent trip to Key West. What a disappointment on this occasion. The room itself was not clean and I found some maggots in the corner of the room. The door to the balcony would not shut and the sink in the bathroom was rusty and not cleaned properly. There are no staff on site except for a lady that serves coffee and a couple of items for breakfast over in the main house, which you have to pay separately for. Previously, breakfast was served round the pool and included in the price as was a happy hour 5-7 every evening. The rooms are not cleaned at all during your stay . The staircarpet to the first floor rooms looked as though it had never been vacuumed and was filthy. I would certainly not recommend people to stay here any more.
Lee W — Google review
Check in was simple, but if you were expecting a representative on site surprise no one was available. The good news was text messages worked and became very import as our stay progressed. The mansion is impressive, but our room was discussing the carpet had not been vacuumed in a long time and was badly stained. Do not walk on it in bare feet!! and then to our surprise a extra large sound stage was set up outside our room and during sound checks our room vibrated severely. We checked out and found another hotel for our stay. top price for crap. I will never stay at the Amsterdam Surry Mansion again.
Mark S — Google review
pros: Central. Walking distance to sunrise pier and other restaurants, bars and pubs.Neat rooms. Restaurant on site was nice but basic, and service was good. Service was shocking. Booking is done through an offsite agent. 10am check. Doors lock up and we could not get back in to pack. 3am fires alarm woke everyone. No Apology or explanation. Eventually someone arrived to open our door so we could pack up. Definitely lacks service with a smile…

Very informative and interesting museum. While small it is packed with information and even fun activities for the kids. We bought a package with four attractions and this was one. It's a small museum but has a lot of information about Key West and Henry Flagler. This is a smaller version of the displays and information we got on a tour of Pigeon Key, but worth it if you don't have time to travel to the 7 mile bridge area to take that tuor.

A wonderful and charming museum! Great information on Henry Flagler and his incredible craft to bring real service to Florida. The gentleman who sold us the tickets was charming and so informative, too! A must see!

This museum is wonderful! We were touring Key West and decided to take kids (11 and 7 to this museum since they have interactive displays for kids. The cost was $10 adults and $5 for kids. We all enjoyed it and Mr. Harry gave a very informative brief history of Key West, sunken treasure, and Mr. Flagler’s plan and construction of railroad from Miami to Key West. The films were also very informative. I had no idea that this history existed. We learned how Key West got its name and so much more. Didn’t know that Mr. Flagler was the brains of standard oil. I also didn’t know he built the Breakers in Palm Beach. I had a chance to tour this past week but didn’t stop. How unfortunate. I have posted a few photos of the remaining railroad. One area they have restored and used for pedestrians to walk. Took photos while driving back. I highly recommend visiting this museum if in Key West.

IF YOU’RE PLANNING ON DOING THE AQUARIUM AND SHIPWRECK MUSEUM, THIS WILL BE FREEEEEEEEE! Ok, sorry but no one mentioned this and I ended up going here first and paying 40$ only to find out later that it’s free if you buy both the package deal for aquarium and ship wreck. The woman who sold us the tickets at the aquarium didn’t even offer a refund but I accidentally pulled out the wrong receipt at the ship wreck museum and Mary (she’s incredible) called the office and got them to refund the cost for us. I’ll be sure to leave her an amazing review in the ship wreck site. Anyway!!! This tour is short and sweet but really gives you a feel for the difficulties in getting the keys populated. We have a far greater respect for the folks that risked their lives to make this the island of our dreams. I think you should really check it out if you do the freebie mentioned above. If you don’t, that’s fine also.

Cool little history museum that is not overwhelming with info. Our ticket was included with the Conch Train Tour and we are glad we stopped by. We enjoyed that there was a lot of interactive/touch and feel parts of the exhibit so you could get a better idea of what folks had to do to put together the railroad. The Fort Jefferson Model was also very cool!

The tour is obviously a canned presentation but each driver has his or her own little spin. If you happen to be lucky enough to get the driver who calls himself "Nobody ". This guy needs to be a stand up comic. He was cracking up the entire trolley car. I was laughing so hard I almost fell out of my seat.

Embark on an adventure with the Conch Train Tour, a beloved Key West attraction since 1958. This 90-minute journey offers a comprehensive exploration of the island's top attractions, including Mallory Square, Southernmost Point, and Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory. The open-air train allows for hop on/hop off options, providing flexibility to delve into the island's culture and history at your own pace.
My wife being a history fanatic I knew the only way we could truly enjoy the Key West, FL area was to get a professional tour. We had the pleasure of riding train number 97, who has the BEST tour guide on the planet. As we weaved our way in/out of the streets of Key West we learned SO much about the city, culture and the roosters. Cannot say how enlightened we all were after this tour. The tour itself lasted about 1.2 hours, and we could have enjoy another hour with our guide. If we had any burning questions of things to do or see or places to eat, our guide filled in all of the questions.

The train ride was a lot of fun and well organised. The driver was also really friendly and experienced. You see all the interesting spots on this tour. Unfortunately, when we did this tour in August there was one stop missing because it was under construction. Also, the ticket price is kind of high. It is almost 45 $. You do get some coupons for other attractions and you also have free admission for the sails to Rails museum but it is still a bit expensive.

This should be every single tourist first excursion as you get a needed introduction to key West. You would never know the island had such rich history and everything has a story behind it from the fossil stoned buildings to the trees. It gives you plenty ideas of what to do around the island and the guides are all pretty friendly. Thanks for the tour!

We had the good fortune to tour Key West on Easter Sunday with Kenny as our guide. This was, by far, the single best tour we have ever taken anywhere. Kenny is engaging, clear, very well informed, and truly funny. My wife and I learned an enormous amount about the island and from someone who grew up on Key West — from the history of major storms to fascinating details about the local flora and fauna. Kenny is exceptionally well read and knows how to weave a good story. He’s meticulous about fact and detail and knows how to command and direct the attention of his listeners. Thank you and bravo!

We used the Conch Tour Train to take our wedding guests from Old Town Manor to Fort Zachary Taylor Beach—and it was one of the highlights of the night! Our guests had an absolute blast riding through Key West, honking the horn, and dancing along to the music on the way to the ceremony. Sarah, our driver, was fantastic—friendly, fun, and even took music requests on the ride back. It added such a unique and memorable touch to our wedding day. We’re so glad we splurged on this!

***Christmas Lights Train Review*** We went on the 6 pm train and this was perfect for our kids. You need to arrive 15 mins prior at the Key West High School parking lot. This was perfect as there was plenty of parking, but no restrooms were available as the school was closed up. The train had a great music mix and we drove around mostly residential neighborhoods, a little of upper Duval, to City Hall and then back to the high school. Wonderful lights displays and a few fun small surprises. Exceeded my expectations. A bit pricey, but absolutely worth it.

We did this as our first activity on our trip to Key West and I was so glad we did, we got to learn about the ample and interesting history of the island as well as see many potential places to check out after our tour. A great way to help you figure out how to make the most of your time in Key West, all while resting your feet! The tour is fun and informative, we appreciated the ten minute break so it did not feel overwhelming. Our guide, James, did a fabulous job and was happy to answer any and all questions.

Yankee Freedom- Dry Tortugas National Park Museum is a must-see destination when visiting the Florida Keys. It's located about 70 miles west of Key West and offers stunning natural beauty, including seven islands and beautiful coral reefs. Visitors can explore the 19th-century Fort Jefferson on Garden Key, the lighthouse at Loggerhead Key, and the Windjammer Wreck. The park is perfect for snorkeling, diving, exploring ancient sites, and sunbathing.
Calm small museum, not too much to see but a nice quick stop when visiting Key West. The girl attending the small exhibit was nice, polite and pretty. She also made a nice drawing that has nothing to do with the exhibit.

I would give 100 Stars if I could! The Yankee Freedom cruise to Dry Tortugas National Park Museum was an amazing experience! My wife and I took the Yankee Freedom for a weekend camping trip, the staff was very helpful and attentive and the boat is spacious, clean and well maintained. if this is on your bucket list, be sure to read the instructions on their website thoroughly. There are only 10 campsites on the island and once the boat leaves in the afternoon, you have the whole island to yourself and a handful of campers. (and a couple park rangers) We explored the whole area and hardly ran into the other campers. (Until a wild storm came through and we took cover under the pavillion for 30 minutes.) Be sure to pack everything you need for your entire trip, there are no stores or vending. We bought a small pup tent and packed a cooler, no issues. They will have campers arrive to the ferry early for a brief orientation. Also, be sure to book in advance to secure a spot. Camping on Dry Tortugas was such an amazing experience! We landed a spot just steps from the ocean. I've never been more relaxed or slept better in my life, just laid back, listening to the waves crashing into the shore. (no cell phone and little to no people, Just peace & serenity.) Exploring the island and Fort Jefferson on our own after the ferry left was a phenomenal adventure. we spent a lot of time walking fort, the break wall and the entire shoreline, I've never seen so many jelly fish in my life. we sat on the mound at the top of the fort wall and had a nice picnic each day. the views were just breathtaking. I would definitely recommend the Yankee Freedom (for a day trip or camping trip) and I can't say enough how incredible our camping trip experience was!! #makingmemories

The second trip on the Yankee Freedom! First was a day trip. The second a weekend camping trip. Camping requires early arrival, staff is friendly and helpful. The camping gear was inspected thoroughly. Pay attention to the instructions on the website. Orientation was short but through. The boat is well maintained and clean. Parking is a couple of blocks away from the terminal for extended stays. Right across the street for day trips. The 2 1/2 hr boat ride was comfortable and Informative both coming and going.

I recently visited the Yankee Freedom- Dry Tortugas National Park Museum and it was truly a great place to visit. The stunning beaches in the area are absolutely beautiful, and the fort located on the island holds immense historic value. One of the highlights of this experience is the option to travel here. I have personally tried both methods, and each offers a unique experience. The seaplane ride was absolutely wonderful and provided a scenic journey to the destination. It was a thrilling experience to soar over the crystal-clear waters, observing the natural beauty from above. The seaplane option is definitely a great choice for those looking for a more thrilling and adventurous way to reach the fort. However, for those who prefer a more relaxed and leisurely journey, taking the boat is also a good option. Although it takes a bit longer to reach the fort, the boat ride offers its own charm. It allows you to soak in the surroundings, enjoy the ocean breeze, and appreciate the journey towards your destination. No matter which method of transportation you choose, once you arrive at the fort, you won't be disappointed. The historical significance of the fort is fascinating and adds an extra layer of intrigue to the visit. Exploring its well-preserved grounds offers a glimpse into the past and provides a deeper understanding of the region's history. Overall, the Yankee Freedom- Dry Tortugas National Park Museum is a must-visit destination. With its breathtaking beaches and captivating fort, it offers something for everyone. Whether you opt for the exhilarating seaplane ride or the more relaxed boat journey, you're in for a memorable experience.

Great ferry service to Dry Tortugas. Be warned there is only one ferry per day for 175 passengers. Tickets are booked weeks in advance even during summer slow season. You may try to go standby and try your luck. Sign up list is brought out at 6:30 at level one by electric car rental stand, but people line up before that. Usually 2 tix free up but sometimes many more. They have one maintenance day a month when ferry does not run. The other option is to go by seaplane or private charter but they are also booked up way in advance.

The Custom House in Key West is a historic four-story red brick building that was originally the city's post office. It now houses the Key West Art & Historical Society, showcasing a permanent collection of 35,000 pieces that depict the area's history through various mediums such as postcards, photos, textiles, and paintings. The museum is located in Mallory Square and is a popular attraction for tourists.
This bright red brick building is one of the most iconic buildings in a town with a lot of iconic buildings, visible from most of Old Town. Home to the Key West Museum of Art & History (which, with its rotating exhibits, is always worth a visit). Definitely worth a photo-op stop while in Old Town.

Great place to learn about the history of Key West, as well as see historic pictures and artifacts. If you are a railfan, this museum has an excellent exhibit on the Florida East Coast Railroad Oversea Extension, including videos and pictures. Nestled at the intersection of Grinnell and Virginia Streets, the Alex Vega Key West Firehouse Museum is a captivating glimpse into the rich history of firefighting in Florida. Established in 1907, this historic fire station showcases an impressive collection of antique fire trucks and various artifacts that tell the story of first responders. Visitors can explore early 1900s alarm systems, preserved uniforms, oxygen tanks, and even the living quarters from its days as Fire Station No. 3.
This is a hidden gem in Key West! It’s a perfect spot to learn about Key West fire fighting history AND to sit on a couple of REAL fire trucks! The museum is staffed by retired firemen volunteers that know the history of not only the fire station, but also the island and neighborhood,. This is the most “kid friendly” museum on the island. My grandsons tried on boots and authentic fire helmets AND climbed all over 2 fire trucks . The museum has a self guided audio tour for the real history buffs . Admission helps to fund the upkeep of the museum and there’s even a cute gift shop. Enjoy a vintage key west experience!

The Tennessee Williams Key West Exhibit is a fascinating museum that celebrates the life and work of the renowned playwright, Tennessee Williams. Located in Key West, where Williams lived for 34 years, the exhibit offers a comprehensive insight into his life and legacy. Visitors can explore historical items, a scale model of his original house, wall graphics depicting his life story, and period-accurate playbills and programs.
Tennessee Williams lived a rather tortured life. But the truth is that life’s challenges can bring out the writer in some. Williams took refuge for some time in Key West in addition to New Orleans. I can see some similarities between the two towns. The museum does a nice job at highlighting his life. It is worth a visit to learn more about this great author.

Very nicely done history of Tennessee Williams along with historical items. While not the original location in Key West where he did his best play writings it does have a scale model of his original house to see. The San Carlos Institute, established in 1871 by Cuban exiles in Key West, serves as a multifaceted center encompassing a museum, library, art gallery, and theater. It played a pivotal role in Cuba's history when Jose Marti announced the establishment of a united front for Cuba's independence during an address there in 1892. The institute features exhibits on Marti's life, Cuban postcards, aviation history, and presidents.
I happened upon this location because of the architecture. Even though located directly on Duval St, it's easy to overlook but there is a National Historic Places Registry plaque on the outside that grabbed my attention. I stepped inside and the most delightful people within the heritage center greeted me! Lovely Cuban heritage center with museum, beautiful tile work, original details, and theater. Definitely worth a stop! Free entry but there is a donation box near the door.

This place is truly remarkable, it has a great collection of items from the Republic of Cuba and its connection to Key West, Florida and the USA. The best boat serves ever with the best crew !! Christina and Nick were so informative so make sure you tip them. Enjoyable boat ride to see wildlife. The day we sailed they had problems with swell meaning the reef was not possible, so we went to the gulf coast rather than the reef. They offered full refunds to anyone not wanting to proceed. We chose to proceed and we are happy we did. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable and provide good information to us. Cabin is air conditioned and the ability to sit down and hang over the glass bottom was a nice touch. Really enjoyed this. Would recommend!

Absolutely wonderful experience, especially for the sunset cruise. We were here on Sunday, June 8. Highly recommend this reef tour via glass bottom boat.
Mike — Google review
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times (I'll take the blame) My son and I visited Key West on a cruise. We had tried to do glass bottom boat tours in several different ports over the past couple of years but all were cancelled due to weather. We booked this one hoping it would go. It did! Upon arrival at the dock we found the Fury reps and checked in. Immediately we were advised that seas were very rough and we could cancel if we wanted. Not wanting to disappoint my son, I enthusiastically said we wanted to still go. It was a short walk to the boat. Very well organized and our guide was awesome leading us there. Boarding was easy and the first impressions of the boat were great. Large boat, very clean and well maintained. The crew obviously enjoys what they do and they are good at it! It was a ROUGH ride out to the reef but until this point I was doing okay. We arrived at the reef and the boat slows to a crawl. The visuals though the glass were amazing. I was still holding it together. Then, a rush of warmth hit me. I began sweating and the nausea set in. I tried to rough it out for my son, but I had to head out to deck for fresh air. Several others were out there, also hit with the dreaded sea-sickness. This was a moment where the crew shined. Earlier we were told if we were feeling ill to see a crew member and they had a "few tricks up their sleeve". I did not seek one out, they found me. I was asked if I was okay, I said I was feeling a bit green. Immediately the crew member brought me a cup of ice and gave me some tips on how to reduce the symptoms. That was my experience.... Now my son, he was unfazed. He had the best time and over the next couple of days he would quiz me me on all the facts that were shared during the excellent narration of what we were seeing through the glass. I was happy that I was able to see some of it before I had to retreat and his retelling of it brought back memories of moments that I had missed while trying to "keep it together". Was it worth it? 100%. Should I have opted out after the warning of rough seas? Maybe. But in the end I'm glad I didn't. If you are prone to sea sickness you may want to heed the warnings. Hopefully we can get back to Key West on a calmer day and I can enjoy it as much as my son did.

Had a great calm day for our trip. The crew was awesome, the boat comfortable. The reef was easy to observe with numerous fish species visible. Well worth the cost

First time staying in a bed and breakfast and it was better than I could’ve imagined. We booked the Jamaica room and it had everything we needed! The host was super helpful and the two kitties on property were a nice touch. Can’t wait to visit again!

The rooms were very comfortable. The Inn has a great location and lovely grounds. The pool was refreshing. They have a fantastic happy hour. The best part of the stay was the service- everyone was extremely helpful and friendly. It's adult only, which is great. I can't say enough good things about my stay here. I can't wait to go back!

My wife and I had a wonderful vacation at Key West Harbor Inn. The inn is located in a perfect area of town, close to everything in, yet was quiet and peaceful. The grounds were beautifully landscaped and our room was beautiful. Most of all the feeling of warmth and being welcome by Tracy and the entire staff made our trip one worth remembering. We have been to Key West several times and never stayed at a place as beautiful as Key West Harbor Inn. It is highly recommended.

Some good. Some bad... Location: Amazing. Everything is walkable. Parking: Yikes.. summer time now, still super limited on weekends.. best bet $40/day lot near Greene St. Otherwise it's very expensive meters or other lots. Room/Grounds: cute, clean..but the BED in BARBADOS was horrible...2 normal sized people barely fit on this "queen"..as you roll off the ends..(they are very worn).. It definitely needs a new mattress...! Bathroom clean, hot water...but hard to be fast with limited water pressure. NO VANITY to put items on.... the shelf in the corner was falling wood slats...I wouldn't trust it...(fix/reno)? Happy hour: was nice, good drinks 430 to 530p Breakfast: decent coffee, hard boiled eggs....the rest was left to be desired. 8 to 1030a Garden area was nice around...nice plants Good for 1 or 2 nights...🐓 4am Roosters..bring your earplugs or music... Everyone was nice, Dave at check in for us was helpful.

The location is convenient. The property is beautiful. The room was comfortable. The pool was refreshing. The happy hour was fun. The company was friendly. The iguanas were plentiful. Mojito and Mango were adorable….. the pool is clothing optional, so be aware of that.

We recently stayed in the Cuba Room at the Harbor Inn in Key West and we absolutely loved it and will definitely return….everything was fantastic from the accommodations, price, location, happy hour (4:30-6:30), Continental Breakfast and of course, Tracy who runs the show and is very simply the best! If you need information about anything in Key West, Tracy can help! Seen ya soon! Randy & Shelley

KW Harbor in has an excellent location, friendly staff, rooms are okay but the bed in the room we stayed in was terrible. They need new mattresses and id upgrade the room to four stars relative to other places ive stayed in KW.

Did a great job showing how the lighthouse keeper and her family lived!

There wasn’t much inside the museum but seeing the old equipments was quite nice. The admission fee is included in the lighthouse admission fee so it is great to have a quick look around after seeing the lighthouse.
Duru T — Google review
It's nice to see how was life in those times. It's kinda spooky imagining yourself in that corner of the world being the sole responsible of keeping the lighthouse alive Not really exciting honestly. Only for the fans

Very interesting. Short 5-minute video on the lighthouse and lots of interesting tidbits about Key West. Definitely worth your time to visit.

Free tour through this historic place! Nancy was lovely and the house very nicely decorated! Definitely one of my favorite things I done in Key West

This is an awesome mansion from 1892. Tours are free! Easily one of the best kept secrets in Key West. Despite there being a cruise ship in port, we had the entire place to ourselves.

What a beautiful house! It’s free to visit and guided tours are offered, donations are very welcome. I was lucky enough to visit it while decorated for Christmas, loved it! ♥️

Although we weren't able to go inside, this house was very beautiful! The historic value of something like this is priceless! Thanks for keeping history alive!

I walked by this house several times during my four-day vacation and it was always closed; the sign said open for special events and only rarely for tours. Well, on my last day it was open for tours! I was so excited! I was the only person on my tour, so I got very individualized attention. I absolutely loved it. So interesting. And it can be rented out for events like weddings at an extremely attractive price - only $1,000, which includes the kitchen facilities and bathrooms, and it's air-conditioned. Oh, and the huge crystal chandelier in the big room is stunning, as are the crystal wall sconces. So happy I was lucky enough to get a personalized tour, and the Women's Club member who volunteers to give them was just adorable. I had so much fun! Definitely keep an eye out for opening times, or call the Women's Club to rent it out. A lovely bit of Key West history.
