Restaurant
Haiku by Hatsune is a Japanese restaurant in Shanghai that has been gaining popularity among food enthusiasts. The restaurant offers a unique dining experience by blending traditional Japanese cuisine with a modern twist. Chef Hatsune, with over twenty years of culinary expertise in Japan, is the mastermind behind this establishment. Known for its California-Japanese fusion, Haiku features cream cheese on its menu and is particularly popular among expats.
Great Japanese restaurant at excellent location. Rolls and seasoned sashimi are all great.

The Foie Gras Rossini Steak used to be less expensive than what it is now but I guess times are changing. But it's good that Haiku is still here although it's name has changed to Hana.
Jeff M — Google review
New name: Hana by Hatsune. I went there for a late lunch on Friday. I ordered a bowl of miso soup, smaller sashimi plate and a bowl of rice (one needs to order them separately). I think my total was RMB 293 (about USD 43.50). When compared to prices I pay in Berkeley, CA, USA this is not cheap, but I wanted to try. The cuts of fish were very fresh with great presentation. What won me over were two small dishes made out of cross-cuts of a cucumber filled what I think was salmon roe (visible at left/right ends of the sashimi plate in my photo). Good choice for a special meal.

By far my favorite Japanese restaurant in shanghai. Go for the rolls. If you are into sashimi this place is good but if you are into rolls there is no better place.

The avenue that goes towards the boardwalk is impressive because of the number of people who get off on one sidewalk and go up on the other. Nestled within the serene ambiance of Yamazato, guests are treated to an authentic Japanese dining experience that truly stands out in Shanghai. The restaurant's traditional decor and attentive waitstaff clad in elegant kimonos create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Breakfast here is a delightful affair, featuring comforting rice porridge accompanied by various side dishes and refreshing fruit juice.
(Translated by Google) We had breakfast. There were a few different side dishes, and the rice was porridge. The porridge was good in the morning, so I'm happy. Fruit juice is also included. Ankake sauce is included in a separate bowl, and when poured over rice porridge, it becomes ``ankake porridge.'' You can also get coffee after your meal. There was a Japanese staff member, so I didn't have any trouble speaking the language. Weixiangzhai, a well-known noodle shop in Shanghai, is celebrated for its iconic dish, ma jiang mian. This spicy sesame noodle dish features a generous serving of sesame sauce draped over the noodles and accompanied by what seems to be chili oil. It's recommended to mix everything together promptly as the texture can become sticky if left for too long.
The best sesame paste noodles i ever had! You can ask for an English menu and then just point to what you would like to have. The shop has a long history on this therefore really crowded, also with locals. You will have to wait for a while until you find a free spot. Once you sit down, the waiter will take your number and bring you the food you ordered. I can also recommend the beef soup as a side. Open daily from 6:15 to 21:00.
Mugi Y — Google review
It was the best meal we had in Shanghai, Michelin bib gourmand 5 years in a row for a reason. Super good sesame noodles and dumplings, curry beef soup also okay 4/5. People working there are very helpful, there was English menu. Prices very affordable. Recommend!
Krszmc — Google review
**Review:** This Chinese restaurant was a pleasant surprise! For just 100 yuan, we ordered five dishes, and while not everything was perfect, some were absolutely delicious. The **noodles with peanut sauce** stood out—rich flavor, delicate aroma, practically "Michelin"-worthy at this price! And the **herb dumplings** were tender, juicy, with perfectly thin dough. The food was prepared incredibly fast, ready in just 10 minutes, which was a big plus. Admittedly, a couple of dishes were a bit plain, but given the price and speed, it’s forgivable. If you want tasty and affordable food, I highly recommend it! 4.5/5

A Shanghai icon. It’s been around for ages. Good noodle with peanut butter sauce. Order it with the fried pork chop. The beef soup is also recommended as it will wash the noodle down well.

Food is really not bad. We went on a weekday, waited 15 minutes for a table. The place can be hectic when crowded. Food came pretty fast. Would recommend to order some soup to go along as it can be slightly hard to swallow due to the peanut paste. Overall recommended.

OOEDO Japanese Restaurant, also known as "da jiang hu ri ben liao li," is a top choice for Japanese cuisine in Shanghai. The restaurant is praised for its welcoming atmosphere and attentive service, making diners feel right at home. Guests have the option to order à la carte or enjoy the buffet, ensuring a satisfying dining experience for all preferences.
Sashimi was average, and expensive (typical of Japanese restaurants ). I spent about 250 RMB for the buffet dinner and a couple of sake drinks. Went solo and was rushed (more than once) by the waitress as I worked on my second sake. Part of the dining experience is to be able to take your time and enjoy the meal. I had a singles table as far back in the place as was possible, but the waitress still felt it was necessary to pressure me to hurry. If not for that, I would have given it a 3 star rating for the food.

阿娘面馆 is a popular noodle restaurant located in Luwan District, Shanghai. The restaurant offers a variety of noodle dishes at an affordable price. The stewed yellow croaker noodles are a must-try, with tender fish meat and flavorful soup served in a small casserole. The milky and spicy noodle soup is also highly recommended. Despite its popularity, the restaurant maintains cleanliness and serves food quickly.

Huxi Lao Longtang Mianguan is a popular spot that draws long lines during meal times, but the efficient service ensures you won't wait too long. The Scallion Oil Noodles may not be as rich as expected, but the small portions of Shanghainese food can leave you feeling satisfied. The original store on Dingxi Road and the Jing'an Temple location both offer delicious noodles, with some visitors waiting nearly an hour for their turn.
Comfort food. Stared at the menu on the wall for the longest time ever, without being rushed. The friendly young lady cashier then suggested the house specials. Not a fan of offal, but the liver tossed noodle was most delightful. Their spring onion sauce brought everything together. Every mouthful was so so satisfying. A granny-like waitress served up this fried pork chop thing. She immediately poured a small dish of Chinese worcestershire sauce and shared that this was the way a local shanghainese enjoys this dish. Yums! Really good!!!

The noodle here is fabulous amazing Also it need to line up for almost 30mins at least But when you have the first taste for the noodle you will think whatever you wait is worth And the noodle here can add for free which can made everyone who eat here get no more hungry The little thing I think is not too good is the fried pork we don’t like it a little bit it’s our taste
Duke C — Google review
Good place for Jiao Tou noodles, the kind where you can mix and match different ingredients to your noodles. Shop opens at 10am but if you want kidneys with your noodles, you must wait till 10.30am for it to be served. So you see a lot of customers sitting there waiting for their kidney noodles. But it was worth the wait. The kidneys were cleaned and deveined properly, so no funky taste, just crunchy. I added a tiger skin egg (deep fried hard boiled egg) instead of my usual fried egg and ordered a separate serving of braised chittering. Very tasty breakfast. Not the best I have had but certainly one of the best.

(Translated by Google) The restaurant is full of people. It was still crowded at 2:30 pm, but compared to the meal time, you don't have to wait too long. You can get a seat in about 5 minutes😁 The large intestine noodles are served with pickles, which are very sweet. The large intestine is well processed and chewy. The thin noodles are chewy, a bit like sweet noodles. It is recommended to buy a drink. It will be a bit greasy after eating. It is worth keeping. Price Large intestine noodles 34 + upgraded noodles 2 = 36 RMb. If you have a lot of large intestines, the price is acceptable. As soon as you enter the door and order, the clerk will say Welcome to my house for noodles, which is quite friendly. There are also Jay Chou's posters and songs in the store. The boss should like Jay.

There was a huge line when we arrived but luckily it goes quickly. You order at the counter and then an auntie will help you find a seat. We got a bowl of noodles each and a pork cutlet. The noodles were crazy addictive. The pork chop was crispy and thin. The ladies there teach you how to eat it. They were so friendly even though it was really busy. The price is cheap and it tastes good

My friends wanted to visit here because they said it’s really popular & yummy. We visited on Wednesday at around 7.45pm. There was still quite a lot of people but we did not have to wait to get a table. Their menu is written on the wall, behind the counter & I find that really adorable. At first glance, we could tell that many noodles were already sold out. We eventually ordered the spicy minced pork noodles & pig organ noodles (it’s what they’re known for, apparently) & also a side of pork cutlet. The noodles were amazing & I really loved how savoury the sauce was! Cutlet was also really good. The auntie helped me mixed my noodles & they were really nice. A must visit if you’re in Shanghai!

庄氏隆兴面馆 is a must-visit restaurant in Shanghai, known for its delicious crab meat and crab roe dishes. The chefs showcase their expertise by skillfully extracting succulent crab meat and vibrant roe to create a luscious golden topping for noodles or rice. The restaurant boasts an elegant old Shanghai decor and offers generous portions of fresh ingredients, including free refills on noodles.
Crab meat roe was the recommended dish to order here either with rice or noodle. Noodle was better though. I asked for additional rice without an additional cost. A bit small restaurant at here. Location a bit walk from nanjing road, however, there is one same stall at nanjing road mall itself.
William L — Google review
Very popular eatery with long queue while we arrive. But really not my bowl of noodles. Noodle texture is very good. The crab still smell. Maybe this is the uniqeness flavor. Just not mine
Stephanie W — Google review
Whenever I visit Shanghai, there are a few local dishes I never miss—especially crab roe noodles and Xiao Long Bao (小笼包). I found a restaurant near my hotel, which was conveniently within walking distance. I enjoyed it so much that I went there two days in a row, trying a variety of dishes. The restaurant can get very crowded during lunch hours, so you may need to wait for a table. The crab roe noodles were served with the roe, noodles, and vinegar separately, allowing you to mix them yourself. Adding vinegar enhances the flavor, and I prefer a stronger taste, so I opted for a less sweetened version. However, I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t provide ginger, even after I asked several times. I believe ginger is essential for balancing the richness of both the crab roe noodles and crab dumplings. The Xiao Long Bao arrived steaming hot, and I recommend eating them immediately before the skin dries out and becomes tough. Ideally, dipping them in vinegar with ginger (if provided) would make them perfect. The noodles were slightly overcooked for my taste, as I prefer them al dente. I also tried the prawn dumplings (虾馄饨), which were decent, and a prawn-based Xiao Long Bao. While both were enjoyable, I found the crab roe version to be the best. Overall, it was a satisfying meal! The crab roe noodles cost ¥168, while other simpler dishes ranged from ¥48 to ¥68—not exactly cheap, but still reasonable.

This restaurant is famous for hairy crab noodles in Shanghai. A portion of noodles and rice is about 200 RMB, the noodles are more delicious.
Hạ L — Google review
One of the must-try restaurants in Shanghai features a neat and elegant old Shanghai decor. It offers a delicious crab noodle meal with a large portion and fresh ingredients. The noodles come with free refills, and the pork chop is crispy. The staff are friendly and suggested ordering through the Da Zhong app for promotions, but it requires a China mobile number. Without a promotion, the price for the set of noodles is CNY 168, the pork chop is CNY 28, and the prawn dumplings are CNY 48. I arrived in the morning around 11 am, and it was already crowded with a queue.
Ivy P — Google review
At dinner time, the queue was long but the staff manage it really well. The xiao long bao was really good. The secret tips for noodle is the vinegar that they gave. Despite the restaurant ordering system does not complied with the alipay but you can nicely ask staff to make an order for you at the counter and pay via alipay.

If you're on the hunt for a unique culinary experience in Luwan District, look no further than 大肠面 (Dayan noodles). This dish has its roots in a humble steamed bun shop and has quickly become a local favorite. What makes it stand out are the fresh toppings, rich broth, and tender chitterlings that add an aromatic touch to every bite. Priced at around RMB 17 per person, it's not only delicious but also incredibly affordable.
(Translated by Google) Cheap and delicious! There's a line, but it's a bowl you'll want to eat even if you wait in line. The offal has a Kotechan-like flavor that suits Japanese people as well.

(Translated by Google) One of the legendary three noodle restaurants in Luxi, I went to find it and found that this address has been demolished and has now been moved to No. 686, South Xizang Road. The large intestine is delicious, the taste is first-rate, and the noodles are a bit hard, which is acceptable.

(Translated by Google) BC. Large intestine + meat + fried bran + dry noodles. Delicious and spicy with a strong taste. The environment is small and the service needs to be improved. There is a queue for both takeout and dine-in (takeout will not be served until the queue for dine-in is finished) (Original) BC。

(Translated by Google) The soup and large intestine are great, but the amount of noodles is too much! Couldn't finish it at all. Since it is not salty, there is soy sauce and chili oil on the table so you can add it yourself. The environment is very difficult.

(Translated by Google) Showed the word beef on the phone, they showed rice noodles on the phone. They said OK and everything was very tasty. The portion is simply huge. I wonder how everyone looks so good with such abundant food.
